Zusammenfassung

TLDRLeo from actualized.org takes viewers through a guided enlightenment inquiry using the Nety Neti method, a self-inquiry process from Advaita Vedanta that helps in achieving enlightenment experiences. The process involves a guided visualization to explore what one truly is by eliminating attachments to physical and mental constructs. This episode is for individuals seeking genuine experiences of enlightenment rather than conceptual understanding. Participants are encouraged to remain open-minded, as discovering one's true self requires rejecting the belief that we are anything definitive. The aim is to realize one's essence as a field of infinite, self-aware nothingness. Traditional assumptions about the self and identity are examined and questioned, inviting a deeper understanding and potential experience of enlightenment. The process might not immediately lead to enlightenment for everyone, but persistence is key.

  • 00:00:00 - 00:05:00

The introduction sets the stage for an Enlightenment guided inquiry using the ancient Neti Neti method, urging viewers not to rely on preconceived notions. It's a method for those seeking Enlightenment, not beginners, and involves stripping away false beliefs about one's identity to discover the true self.

  • 00:05:00 - 00:10:00

Leo emphasizes setting aside preconceived notions of identity, suggesting that non-conceptual, direct experiences of Enlightenment may result from this exercise. He warns that our strong assumptions about identity can block us from true understanding, and encourages open-mindedness to challenge perceived truths about self.

  • 00:10:00 - 00:15:00

The core of the exercise asks participants to consider that they are not their body, mind, DNA, neurons, or any tangible experience. It's an exploration into the possibility that one's true essence is not tied to any physical or experiential aspect, challenging deeply-rooted self-beliefs.

  • 00:15:00 - 00:20:00

The process of inquiry begins as Leo guides a meditation that seeks to determine the true essence of self—separate from any experience. He advises questioning of assumptions about existence and focusing on the direct experience of being, without any preconceived beliefs or biases.

  • 00:20:00 - 00:25:00

Leo introduces a structured meditation that involves relaxing the body and mind and questioning the fundamental nature of self—specifically steering participants away from identifying as any form of sensory or experiential content, urging them to stay open-minded and grounded in the reality of their direct experience.

  • 00:25:00 - 00:30:00

Leo makes participants question the nature of experiences and their relationship to them. He points out the changing nature of experiences (sight, sound, thought, etc.) to highlight that none of these can be the true, unchanging self, which supposedly remains constant from birth till now.

  • 00:30:00 - 00:35:00

Participants are led through a visualization exercise that asks them to explore whether they could be any of the six channels of experience—sight, sound, taste, smell, touch, and thought—ultimately concluding that none of these changeable experiences can truly define what they fundamentally are.

  • 00:35:00 - 00:40:00

Leo guides the inquiry into inner sensations, pondering whether one can truly identify with them, especially as they are always in flux and absent at times, further suggesting that the true self cannot be any feeling or internal dialogue experienced over a lifetime.

  • 00:40:00 - 00:45:00

Further examination reveals that even internal dialogues and images—often closely associated with one’s sense of self—are not truly 'self', as they are also transient. Leo prompts reevaluation of what could be left if we eliminate all forms of experiences.

  • 00:45:00 - 00:50:00

As participants struggle to identify with the 'I' thought or any form of intuition, they are led to confront the notion of being an unidentifiable perceiver or self, challenging deep-seated assumptions of being a tangible entity.

  • 00:50:00 - 00:55:00

A crucial realization in the exercise emerges that the self is not locatable as a physical or mental object or experience. All assumptions about physical reality, object status, or spatial location are questioned, suggesting self is an unassuming constant that doesn't fit these standard assumptions.

  • 00:55:00 - 01:00:00

Leo confronts the conceptual leap where belief of being a constant is challenged; the recognition that direct discovery through deep inquiry might reveal self as an un-graspable, intangible 'nothingness', contrary to all previous identifications and definitions.

  • 01:00:00 - 01:05:00

Participants are led to the conclusion that the true essence of self is an unobservable, unchangeable, self-aware 'nothingness'. Emphasis is placed on the experiential understanding (or realization) of this abstract, difficult-to-capture truth as enlightenment.

  • 01:05:00 - 01:14:11

The session closes by encouraging continued practice and open-minded exploration, emphasizing that understanding this truth requires persistent inquiry. Leo concludes by promoting his site for those interested in furthering personal development and transcendence work.

in this episode I'm going to take you
  • 00:00:06
    through an Enlightenment guided inquiry
  • 00:00:09
it's going to be a guided
  • 00:00:11
visualization using the nety nety method
  • 00:00:13
from advit viant which can be very
  • 00:00:16
    effective at creating Enlightenment
  • 00:00:17
    experiences

    [Music]
  • 00:00:30
this is not a newbie introductory
  • 00:00:33
episode about Enlightenment if you want
  • 00:00:35
that I have plenty of those go check
  • 00:00:37
those out on my website or my channel
  • 00:00:41
this here is for people who actually
  • 00:00:42
want to have an Enlightenment experience
  • 00:00:43
and this is a very powerful method this
  • 00:00:45
method is called nety netti comes first
  • 00:00:48
    us from ad VAV
  • 00:00:50
Vidant very old method what nety nety
  • 00:00:52
basically means is it means not this not
  • 00:00:56
that it's sort of a process of
  • 00:00:58
    elimination for getting towards
  • 00:01:01
    Enlightenment
  • 00:01:03
now on the other hand I should tell you
  • 00:01:05
if you are new to this concept of
  • 00:01:07
Enlightenment uh maybe you do actually
  • 00:01:09
want to sit through and just do this
  • 00:01:11
right now without getting a lot of
  • 00:01:12
    introductory information about it
  • 00:01:14
because in a sense the more conceptual
  • 00:01:16
    knowledge and understanding you have
  • 00:01:17
    about Enlightenment the more difficult
  • 00:01:19
it is for these kinds of exercises to be
  • 00:01:22
effective it could be really effective
  • 00:01:24
for you just to come into this totally
  • 00:01:26
cold totally clueless and you might have
  • 00:01:28
an Enlightenment experience right now so
  • 00:01:32
uh set aside 30 or 40 minutes make sure
  • 00:01:36
you have time to do this visualization
  • 00:01:38
I'm going to take you through right this
  • 00:01:40
can be a very powerful method that you
  • 00:01:41
can use with me or you can learn it and
  • 00:01:44
use it by yourself I personally do this
  • 00:01:46
myself and uh it can get you some great
  • 00:01:49
results so what are we talking about
  • 00:01:52
    here
  • 00:01:53
basically we want to discover what
  • 00:01:57
exactly it is that you are
  • 00:02:00
that's all Enlightenment is it's the
  • 00:02:02
discovery of your true self what are you
  • 00:02:07
exactly the big problem here as you can
  • 00:02:10
already see is that you already know who
  • 00:02:12
    you
  • 00:02:13
are at least you think you do but the
  • 00:02:17
situation is so bad and there's so much
  • 00:02:20
ignorance here that there's not even a
  • 00:02:24
possibility for you to consider that you
  • 00:02:27
might be something other than what you
  • 00:02:29
    all already know yourself to
  • 00:02:31
be it's not just a belief for you that
  • 00:02:34
you know who you are it's not just a
  • 00:02:36
feeling it's not just an emotion it's
  • 00:02:38
not just a conviction or a
  • 00:02:40
    theory it's
  • 00:02:42
truth you know exactly who you are I'm
  • 00:02:45
talking to you right now I'm pointing to
  • 00:02:47
you right now that thing that's sitting
  • 00:02:49
there listening to me that creature that
  • 00:02:52
human being that you believe that you
  • 00:02:54
are the body and the mind and the brain
  • 00:02:57
and whatever else you might believe that
  • 00:02:59
    you are
  • 00:03:00
that for you isn't just a belief that
  • 00:03:02
for you is a fact of reality in fact
  • 00:03:05
it's such a brute fact for you that it
  • 00:03:10
might be the most indubitable fact about
  • 00:03:14
    reality that you
  • 00:03:15
have I could probably get you to doubt
  • 00:03:18
anything that you think you know about
  • 00:03:20
life and reality except the fact that
  • 00:03:22
you are this thing sitting there right
  • 00:03:25
there and yet that's exactly my mission
  • 00:03:29
so to speak is to get you to start to
  • 00:03:31
doubt that and to create some
  • 00:03:33
possibility that you could be other than
  • 00:03:36
what you've thought you've been your
  • 00:03:37
    entire
  • 00:03:38
life that's very difficult to do because
  • 00:03:41
    it
  • 00:03:42
requires a degree of openness that most
  • 00:03:46
human beings cannot stomach and their
  • 00:03:49
    imagination can't even
  • 00:03:53
    fathom nevertheless that's what we're
  • 00:03:55
going to attempt to do so I hope you can
  • 00:03:57
remain open-minded with me now notice
  • 00:04:00
that I'm not here trying to convince you
  • 00:04:02
of some belief system or some religious
  • 00:04:05
ideology or some physical cosmology or
  • 00:04:08
something like this I'm not really
  • 00:04:10
trying to get to change your
  • 00:04:12
beliefs what I'm trying to get you to do
  • 00:04:14
is I'm trying to get you to have a
  • 00:04:15
    direct
  • 00:04:16
    experience of your true
  • 00:04:19
    nature and this is
  • 00:04:22
possible it's possible to have a direct
  • 00:04:25
experience so you believing me isn't
  • 00:04:29
what we're after and it's not going to
  • 00:04:31
help it's very important that you
  • 00:04:33
understand this what you need to do is
  • 00:04:35
to actually hear my words read between
  • 00:04:38
the lines and have a direct experience
  • 00:04:40
of what I'm referring to because the
  • 00:04:41
words I'm using have no connection to
  • 00:04:44
    the experience itself they're just
  • 00:04:46
guides they're just AIDS all right so be
  • 00:04:50
very wise here and read between the
  • 00:04:52
    lines of what I'm
  • 00:04:54
saying if you're open to that then let's
  • 00:04:57
begin let's just for the sake of shits
  • 00:05:01
and giggles let's do a thought
  • 00:05:03
    experiment you like thought experiments
  • 00:05:06
just take the rest of this episode the
  • 00:05:08
rest of the next half hour the next hour
  • 00:05:11
and just let's play around let's play
  • 00:05:13
around with your mind let's play around
  • 00:05:14
with your beliefs right so what I want
  • 00:05:16
you to do is I want you to just kind of
  • 00:05:17
to set aside some of the firm beliefs
  • 00:05:20
that you have about how life Works how
  • 00:05:22
reality is just set those aside I'm not
  • 00:05:24
saying you have to forget about them
  • 00:05:25
forever I know you hold them very
  • 00:05:28
precious and dear I know you think
  • 00:05:30
they're so true and right that you can't
  • 00:05:31
let them go even for a minute but you
  • 00:05:33
know what it won't kill you just let
  • 00:05:36
them go set them aside for
  • 00:05:39
    like
  • 00:05:40
    60 to 30 minutes it won't kill you I
  • 00:05:44
    promise unless do a thought
  • 00:05:47
experiment I want you to open your mind
  • 00:05:50
    to the radical
  • 00:05:52
possibility that you are not a body or a
  • 00:05:56
    mind or a brain
  • 00:06:01
    that you are not an
  • 00:06:05
object that you are not a
  • 00:06:09
thing that you are not a
  • 00:06:12
soul that you are not a
  • 00:06:16
spirit or any other thing that really
  • 00:06:19
    you might imagine yourself to
  • 00:06:21
be open your mind to the possibility
  • 00:06:24
    that you are not your
  • 00:06:26
DNA and that you are not the neurons in
  • 00:06:30
    your
  • 00:06:31
brain and that you are not chemical
  • 00:06:34
    electrical signals firing through the
  • 00:06:38
brain or your software in the brain none
  • 00:06:42
    of this
  • 00:06:43
stuff open your mind to the possibility
  • 00:06:45
    like
  • 00:06:46
really that you are none of these
  • 00:06:51
things not only that but open your mind
  • 00:06:54
to the possibility that you are not an
  • 00:06:56
    experience at all
  • 00:07:00
    you're not an experience you're not a
  • 00:07:02
    thought you're not a feeling you're not
  • 00:07:04
an emotion you're not a belief and
  • 00:07:06
you're not an intuition and you're not a
  • 00:07:12
sense now what does this leave us with
  • 00:07:17
doesn't leave us with much because when
  • 00:07:19
I say experience the way I Define
  • 00:07:22
    experience is
  • 00:07:25
everything I mean everything that's ever
  • 00:07:28
happened to you in your entire life from
  • 00:07:30
    the moment you were
  • 00:07:32
born through till today all the decades
  • 00:07:34
that have passed everything that's ever
  • 00:07:36
happened to you all those things we
  • 00:07:39
    might call those
  • 00:07:41
experiences there were sights and sounds
  • 00:07:43
and tastes and feelings and emotions and
  • 00:07:45
    memories and beliefs and
  • 00:07:49
ideas all this kind of stuff right I'm
  • 00:07:52
calling all of that experience so what
  • 00:07:54
I'm asking you to do is to open your
  • 00:07:57
mind to the radical possibility that you
  • 00:07:58
    are not an
  • 00:08:06
experience and I'm being serious here
  • 00:08:09
    I'm not
  • 00:08:12
around can you do that can you just open
  • 00:08:14
your mind for even just a minute to the
  • 00:08:17
possibility that you are not an
  • 00:08:20
experience and therefore that you are
  • 00:08:22
    not an
  • 00:08:26
object because an object is an
  • 00:08:28
    experience
  • 00:08:30
you experience objects you're not a body
  • 00:08:32
or a brain or a mind because those are
  • 00:08:34
all experiences and you're not a soul
  • 00:08:37
    because that's also an experience
  • 00:08:38
    whatever you call
  • 00:08:42
Soul this is the hardest part of
  • 00:08:46
Enlightenment work is just getting to
  • 00:08:49
this stage right here where I'm trying
  • 00:08:50
to get you to I'm kind of belaboring the
  • 00:08:52
point but don't mistake how important
  • 00:08:55
this is I wouldn't just Bel labor it for
  • 00:08:57
    no reason
  • 00:08:59
I want you to actually consider that
  • 00:09:02
    anything you've experienced in your
  • 00:09:03
entire life is not actually what you
  • 00:09:09
are I don't want you to believe that I
  • 00:09:11
just want you to be open to the
  • 00:09:12
possibility that that might be the case
  • 00:09:16
    there's a
  • 00:09:18
difference I'm actually going to guide
  • 00:09:20
you through a visualization here which
  • 00:09:22
will demonstrate this to you so you
  • 00:09:23
don't need to believe it but you do need
  • 00:09:26
to be open to it because if your mind is
  • 00:09:28
closed to it then we can't go anywhere
  • 00:09:31
you see your mind is already made up and
  • 00:09:34
    then this whole conversation is
  • 00:09:39
useless seriously you are not an
  • 00:09:43
    experience or an
  • 00:09:45
    object or anything you've ever
  • 00:09:49
    felt in your entire
  • 00:09:53
life if you can open your mind to that
  • 00:09:55
possibility then now we can begin the
  • 00:09:58
    search
  • 00:10:05
this is where inquiry begins there's no
  • 00:10:07
inquiry until you get to this
  • 00:10:12
point it's very important that you grasp
  • 00:10:16
that inquiry is not what you do
  • 00:10:20
beforehand it's what you do after you've
  • 00:10:22
    gotten to this
  • 00:10:25
point so I hope you're ready and let's
  • 00:10:28
    begin the guided
  • 00:10:31
visualization this will take 30 to 40
  • 00:10:34
minutes so set aside the time make sure
  • 00:10:36
that you have some time and room to
  • 00:10:38
relax and to be with me here fully
  • 00:10:45
present go ahead and relax your
  • 00:10:48
body and breathe in some nice deep
  • 00:10:51
breaths as you get present and really
  • 00:10:54
focused on every word that I'm
  • 00:10:57
saying you can go ahead and close your
  • 00:10:59
    eyes and just sit there
  • 00:11:03
comfortably alert and take a couple of
  • 00:11:06
    nice deep breaths in with
  • 00:11:27
    me good
  • 00:11:30
as you're focusing on your breathing
  • 00:11:33
with your eyes closed go ahead and just
  • 00:11:35
notice your whole body relaxing and all
  • 00:11:37
    the tension melting
  • 00:11:41
away and then your breathing just let it
  • 00:11:44
    be
  • 00:11:45
natural don't try to manipulate or
  • 00:11:47
control it and just sit there very
  • 00:11:51
comfortably and just listen to me
  • 00:11:53
talking to you I'm going to explain some
  • 00:11:56
things and I'm going to start to guide
  • 00:11:57
you through some of the things that I
  • 00:11:58
want you to to experience for
  • 00:12:04
    yourself keep your mind
  • 00:12:07
    open very very
  • 00:12:10
open but also be grounded in what's
  • 00:12:14
going on directly in your experience
  • 00:12:16
because I'm not going to ask you just to
  • 00:12:18
    believe things but to experience
  • 00:12:23
them what we want to do what we're
  • 00:12:25
really interested in here is answering
  • 00:12:28
    the question what exactly are
  • 00:12:32
you and where exactly are you
  • 00:12:37
    located if you are a
  • 00:12:40
thing what thing exactly are you if you
  • 00:12:44
    turn out to be an
  • 00:12:45
    experience what experience exactly are
  • 00:12:48
you and where is this thing or this
  • 00:12:51
    experience
  • 00:12:54
    located
  • 00:12:57
exactly now now this might seem
  • 00:13:01
obvious might be so obvious that you've
  • 00:13:03
never questioned it in your entire
  • 00:13:06
life but what I want you to do is I want
  • 00:13:08
you to actually look with me from
  • 00:13:10
    scratch at this
  • 00:13:12
issue don't take anything for granted
  • 00:13:15
here be very mindful of any assumptions
  • 00:13:18
you might have even assumptions that
  • 00:13:21
you've never been cognizant of before in
  • 00:13:24
    your entire
  • 00:13:25
life I want you to question every single
  • 00:13:28
    assumption
  • 00:13:30
    about yourself and your
  • 00:13:32
existence that you've ever taken for
  • 00:13:35
    granted even including the possibility
  • 00:13:38
    that you
  • 00:13:40
exist or that you exist as a
  • 00:13:43
thing or that you exist as an
  • 00:13:47
experience let's not take anything for
  • 00:13:49
granted here we're actually going to
  • 00:13:51
look and we're going to see what is
  • 00:13:53
    actually literally
  • 00:13:55
true and we're going to be very exact
  • 00:13:57
and very precise and very literal with
  • 00:14:00
the way that we look and
  • 00:14:02
observe our experience to see what's
  • 00:14:06
true we're not going to let our mind
  • 00:14:08
    escape and be wishy-washy or
  • 00:14:11
vague because this is an important
  • 00:14:14
question right isn't it important to
  • 00:14:16
    know what you
  • 00:14:23
are have you ever noticed that
  • 00:14:26
    everything in your awareness changes
  • 00:14:32
think about this think to the very
  • 00:14:33
beginning of your life and just kind of
  • 00:14:36
scan through your life from the earliest
  • 00:14:38
memories you have when you were a child
  • 00:14:41
three or four or 5 years old or however
  • 00:14:43
old you were and uh think through all
  • 00:14:45
the stuff that happened to you as a kid
  • 00:14:47
as a teenager and then uh as an adult
  • 00:14:50
and all the way to the present
  • 00:14:53
day now what you immediately notice is
  • 00:14:57
    that every thing in your
  • 00:14:59
    experience has
  • 00:15:01
    changed hasn't
  • 00:15:04
it notice what happened during the
  • 00:15:07
course of your whole life really all
  • 00:15:10
    that happened was
  • 00:15:12
    experience we're going to call
  • 00:15:14
everything that happened to you and
  • 00:15:16
experience there were sights there were
  • 00:15:19
    sounds tastes and
  • 00:15:21
    smells feelings physical
  • 00:15:25
    touches differences in temperature there
  • 00:15:27
were all sorts of thoughts and ideas and
  • 00:15:29
beliefs and imaginations there was an
  • 00:15:32
    internal dialogue in your
  • 00:15:36
    head all of this recalling
  • 00:15:39
experience but I want you to
  • 00:15:42
notice that all of it has
  • 00:15:47
    changed nothing has stayed
  • 00:15:51
    constant has
  • 00:15:55
it we're going to take a much deeper
  • 00:15:57
look into this so don't believe me on it
  • 00:16:00
but be open to the possibility and it
  • 00:16:02
    certainly seems reasonable that
  • 00:16:04
everything has changed even your body
  • 00:16:06
    has
  • 00:16:08
changed what your body is now is not
  • 00:16:10
what it was when you were 6 years
  • 00:16:13
old or when you were 10 years
  • 00:16:16
old or when you were 15 years
  • 00:16:18
    old very
  • 00:16:21
different all the cells in your body
  • 00:16:24
just from science we know all the cells
  • 00:16:26
in your body have changed too
  • 00:16:33
    so that's interesting it's interesting
  • 00:16:35
    that all these things have
  • 00:16:37
changed and yet we think that we're a
  • 00:16:41
thing and we think that we know who we
  • 00:16:47
are also notice that all your beliefs I
  • 00:16:50
mean not all your beliefs but many of
  • 00:16:51
    your beliefs have
  • 00:16:54
changed the things you know have changed
  • 00:16:59
    your knowledge has changed dra
  • 00:17:01
    drastically over the
  • 00:17:07
    decades so just notice
  • 00:17:09
that now what I want to suggest to you
  • 00:17:13
and we're just going to kind of take
  • 00:17:13
this as a premise it could be wrong but
  • 00:17:16
we'll just take it as a premise is that
  • 00:17:18
the following list of things is all that
  • 00:17:20
    you've ever had of
  • 00:17:22
    reality
  • 00:17:24
    sight
  • 00:17:25
    sound taste smell
  • 00:17:29
    touch or
  • 00:17:31
    feeling and
  • 00:17:36
    thought that's
  • 00:17:38
it your entire reality from the moment
  • 00:17:41
you were born till today has been
  • 00:17:43
composed of only those six things
  • 00:17:47
basically in various combinations and of
  • 00:17:50
course in a lot of complex ways they
  • 00:17:52
were uh changing but this is basically
  • 00:17:55
the six channels that you're dealing
  • 00:17:57
with as a human being and all of this we
  • 00:18:00
    tering
  • 00:18:03
experience now what we're going to do is
  • 00:18:05
we're going to go through and check each
  • 00:18:07
of these channels of experience and
  • 00:18:11
we're going to see do you exist in any
  • 00:18:13
    one of these
  • 00:18:15
channels so let's take first a channel
  • 00:18:18
    called
  • 00:18:20
site and the question is are you a
  • 00:18:24
site are you a visual experience so by
  • 00:18:28
    visual experience I basically mean
  • 00:18:30
    colors and
  • 00:18:32
shapes that's all that sight is composed
  • 00:18:34
    of colors and shapes nothing
  • 00:18:38
else so right now if your eyes have been
  • 00:18:40
closed this whole time what I want you
  • 00:18:43
to do is I want you just to put your
  • 00:18:45
awareness on the fact that you only see
  • 00:18:49
    Darkness because your eyes are
  • 00:18:54
closed and what I want you to do now is
  • 00:18:56
I want you to open your eyes
  • 00:18:58
    so go ahead and open
  • 00:19:01
    them and look around
  • 00:19:04
you now what you have is you see colors
  • 00:19:07
and you see shapes doesn't matter what
  • 00:19:09
    they
  • 00:19:10
are you could be looking at what we
  • 00:19:13
would call your body or other physical
  • 00:19:16
objects in the room around you and all
  • 00:19:18
    that's
  • 00:19:19
fine so now notice that you have all
  • 00:19:21
these colors and now go ahead and close
  • 00:19:24
    your eyes
  • 00:19:26
again and notice that every every single
  • 00:19:29
    color has
  • 00:19:35
changed if you want you can open your
  • 00:19:37
    eyes
  • 00:19:38
again and notice that again it went from
  • 00:19:41
Darkness again to Colors all sorts of
  • 00:19:44
    different colors and
  • 00:19:47
shapes and go ahead and close your eyes
  • 00:19:49
again and notice that all the colors and
  • 00:19:51
shapes have all completely changed not
  • 00:19:54
one of them has stayed the same and have
  • 00:19:56
all turned into some kind of dark color
  • 00:19:58
maybe a reddish tint color if you're
  • 00:20:01
looking at some lights with your eyes
  • 00:20:02
    Lids
  • 00:20:04
closed and that all the shapes are gone
  • 00:20:10
too so what does this tell
  • 00:20:14
us it tells us that you cannot be a
  • 00:20:21
sight why because SES change all the
  • 00:20:24
    time
  • 00:20:28
you change sight just by blinking your
  • 00:20:32
    eyes you change
  • 00:20:35
sight so by definition you can't be a
  • 00:20:39
    color or a
  • 00:20:41
    shape because they're always in
  • 00:20:46
    flux you
  • 00:20:48
see and what you are is you are a
  • 00:20:50
    constant notice that
  • 00:20:53
basically from the moment you were born
  • 00:20:56
and you were conscious to to the moment
  • 00:20:59
you are now the the constant There Was
  • 00:21:02
You So experience was changing but there
  • 00:21:05
was a constant the constant is you so
  • 00:21:07
we're looking for what that constant is
  • 00:21:09
right so what we've discovered here is
  • 00:21:11
that the constant is not colors or
  • 00:21:16
    shapes now that's pretty interesting
  • 00:21:18
because notice that your body when you
  • 00:21:20
look at yourself in the mirror you tend
  • 00:21:21
to think of like well I am my body but
  • 00:21:24
let's be very clear about that you can't
  • 00:21:26
be the color of your body and you can't
  • 00:21:29
be the shape of your body or any other
  • 00:21:32
    visual aspect of your body
  • 00:21:36
    because it can
  • 00:21:38
change not only that but of course your
  • 00:21:41
body the way it looks has completely
  • 00:21:43
changed from when you were 6 years old
  • 00:21:45
to where you are now all of it has
  • 00:21:49
changed so that can't be fundamentally
  • 00:21:52
    what you are you
  • 00:21:55
see good let's go on to the next Channel
  • 00:21:58
    which is
  • 00:22:00
sound maybe what you are is a sound
  • 00:22:04
instead let's take a look are you a
  • 00:22:10
sound the sound channel is pretty easy
  • 00:22:13
to deal with because most people don't
  • 00:22:16
    really think they're a
  • 00:22:18
sound seems rather silly you don't
  • 00:22:20
    really believe you're a sound but let's
  • 00:22:23
    just take a
  • 00:22:25
look and again put your attention on the
  • 00:22:27
    fact that sounds are constantly
  • 00:22:29
changing the sound as I'm talking to you
  • 00:22:32
right now every single second I'm saying
  • 00:22:33
new sounds and these sounds are
  • 00:22:36
    changing and whatever sounds you
  • 00:22:38
experienced today are different from the
  • 00:22:39
    sounds you experienced yesterday and
  • 00:22:41
    different from the sounds you
  • 00:22:42
    experienced 10 years
  • 00:22:45
ago has there been a constant sound from
  • 00:22:49
the moment you were conscious at Birth
  • 00:22:51
    to
  • 00:22:52
    today take a
  • 00:22:55
look what you should discover is no
  • 00:22:59
    there hasn't
  • 00:23:00
been sound always changes so just by
  • 00:23:05
very simple logic we can say that you
  • 00:23:09
    can't be a
  • 00:23:15
sound cuz we could put you in a totally
  • 00:23:18
soundproof chamber and you would still
  • 00:23:21
exist right you don't believe you would
  • 00:23:24
die if your ears were blocked with wax
  • 00:23:30
or if you were born deaf you're not dead
  • 00:23:34
you're still alive you're still you
  • 00:23:38
basically so you can't be a
  • 00:23:42
sound now let's check the channel of
  • 00:23:46
taste this one's pretty easy because
  • 00:23:49
    human beings have a very
  • 00:23:52
poor sense of taste compared to sound
  • 00:23:56
    and
  • 00:23:57
sight but let's take a look for sake of
  • 00:24:02
    comprehensiveness notice right now that
  • 00:24:04
whatever taste you have in your
  • 00:24:08
mouth you don't actually believe that
  • 00:24:11
    that's you do
  • 00:24:15
you not only that but notice that that
  • 00:24:20
    taste has changed it's always
  • 00:24:22
different the taste in your mouth is
  • 00:24:24
    different after you've brushed your
  • 00:24:26
teeth after you've drank some coffee
  • 00:24:29
    after you've uh kissed your
  • 00:24:31
    spouse after you chewed some
  • 00:24:34
gum every single day your taste changes
  • 00:24:38
so you can't actually literally be a
  • 00:24:40
    taste can
  • 00:24:44
you most people don't really believe
  • 00:24:46
their tastes anyways that's kind of
  • 00:24:49
silly so we're done with that channel
  • 00:24:52
    let's move on to
  • 00:24:54
smell the channel of smell are you a SM
  • 00:25:00
smell human beings have an even poorer
  • 00:25:03
    sense of smell than taste
  • 00:25:05
mostly so this one's also easy to deal
  • 00:25:07
with but let's take a look whatever
  • 00:25:10
you're smelling right now is that
  • 00:25:13
    you literally is the smell
  • 00:25:19
you of course most people would say no
  • 00:25:22
that's rather silly how could I be a
  • 00:25:25
smell but just to be very comprehensive
  • 00:25:28
have also noticed that whatever smell
  • 00:25:30
you have now is not the smell you had
  • 00:25:34
yesterday or the day before or 10 years
  • 00:25:37
    ago or when you were
  • 00:25:39
born smells are always changing there's
  • 00:25:42
really no such thing as a constant
  • 00:25:47
smell so what you are cannot be a smell
  • 00:25:51
because what you are is constant and a
  • 00:25:55
    smell is never constant
  • 00:26:00
okay let's move on to the next Channel
  • 00:26:02
    which is
  • 00:26:04
    touch are you a
  • 00:26:08
touch now this one's a little trickier
  • 00:26:10
so we're going to break it up in two
  • 00:26:12
first let's consider outer touch what
  • 00:26:15
I'm going to call outer touch these are
  • 00:26:17
    all
  • 00:26:20
the touches that sort of take place
  • 00:26:22
outside your body so if you put your
  • 00:26:24
hand on a on a cold can of Coca-Cola
  • 00:26:29
or if you put your hand near a fire
  • 00:26:31
those are like Sensations you feel
  • 00:26:34
outside your body on the surface of your
  • 00:26:36
skin this is what we're calling outer
  • 00:26:39
    touch are you an outer
  • 00:26:46
touch are you a pressure on your skin so
  • 00:26:51
like the feeling of being cut by a knife
  • 00:26:54
or poked by a needle or if you're
  • 00:26:57
sitting on your chair or on your sofa
  • 00:27:00
right now then there's some sensation on
  • 00:27:02
your butt from the cushion that's
  • 00:27:05
pressure on you kind of from the
  • 00:27:09
outside are you any one of those
  • 00:27:20
    Sensations take a close
  • 00:27:24
look notice that you are not any one of
  • 00:27:27
    those
  • 00:27:30
sens what we would say is that you are
  • 00:27:33
    experiencing those Sensations but those
  • 00:27:36
    Sensations are not actually
  • 00:27:38
    you
  • 00:27:42
right moreover notice again that these
  • 00:27:45
    Sensations are
  • 00:27:47
very fluid and changing they're changing
  • 00:27:51
    almost every
  • 00:27:54
minute there is no one single constant
  • 00:27:57
    sensation
  • 00:27:58
    that has
  • 00:28:00
been impinging on you from the
  • 00:28:03
outside your entire life that you could
  • 00:28:07
    possibly identify with there's no
  • 00:28:09
pressure there's no hot or cold there's
  • 00:28:11
no sharpness there's no any kind of
  • 00:28:14
    outer pressure or outer
  • 00:28:19
touch so that means that you can't
  • 00:28:21
    possibly be an outer
  • 00:28:26
touch good good now let's consider the
  • 00:28:29
other component of touch which is what
  • 00:28:32
    I'm going to call Inner
  • 00:28:34
feeling inner feeling is all the
  • 00:28:36
feelings you have inside your body these
  • 00:28:37
can be pains or it could be a warm
  • 00:28:40
sensation or cold sensation could be a
  • 00:28:43
    internal
  • 00:28:45
pressure could be the feeling of your
  • 00:28:47
heart or your lungs or a tingly
  • 00:28:51
sensation behind your eyes or in your
  • 00:28:53
head or in your skull like maybe a
  • 00:28:55
    headache
  • 00:28:58
or even the feeling of solidity inside
  • 00:29:00
your body all of these feelings these
  • 00:29:02
are inner feelings and also will include
  • 00:29:04
into this emotions so when you feel
  • 00:29:07
    angry or sad or
  • 00:29:10
    happy or sexually
  • 00:29:13
excited all of these are internal
  • 00:29:18
feelings so now let's take a real close
  • 00:29:21
    look at this
  • 00:29:23
one are you an internal feeling
  • 00:29:33
this is probably the trickiest one of
  • 00:29:34
    all so look very very
  • 00:29:37
carefully if you have a tendency to say
  • 00:29:39
that yes I am an internal feeling that's
  • 00:29:42
what I am then what I want you to do is
  • 00:29:44
I want you to identify very specifically
  • 00:29:47
which internal feeling are you exactly
  • 00:29:58
are you the feeling in your chest are
  • 00:30:01
you the feeling behind the back of your
  • 00:30:04
eyes in your skull are you literally
  • 00:30:07
that feeling is that what you actually
  • 00:30:15
    are look at this very
  • 00:30:18
    open-mindedly without any biases or
  • 00:30:21
    preconceptions
  • 00:30:30
what you should notice is that you're
  • 00:30:31
    actually not an inner
  • 00:30:35
feeling what we would say is that you
  • 00:30:38
feel an inner feeling and inner feeling
  • 00:30:41
happens to you but you are not literally
  • 00:30:47
it and also notice that inner feelings
  • 00:30:51
    also change very frequently
  • 00:30:58
and often you're not conscious at all of
  • 00:31:00
what inner feelings are happening inside
  • 00:31:03
    of
  • 00:31:04
you right now you've become conscious of
  • 00:31:07
inner feelings because I've focused your
  • 00:31:10
attention on that but chances are when
  • 00:31:13
you were sitting there and I was talking
  • 00:31:14
about other stuff you were not connected
  • 00:31:17
to your inner feelings very much at
  • 00:31:21
all if you do believe that you are an
  • 00:31:23
inner feeling take a look and notice has
  • 00:31:26
there ever been a moment in your life
  • 00:31:28
where that inner feeling didn't exist or
  • 00:31:29
    you weren't conscious of
  • 00:31:31
it because remember if we're saying that
  • 00:31:34
you're an inner feeling that means that
  • 00:31:35
inner feeling must have been constant
  • 00:31:37
from the moment of your birth up till
  • 00:31:40
today because that's literally what you
  • 00:31:42
are and if that inner feeling ever stops
  • 00:31:45
    existing you stop
  • 00:31:49
existing that's what it would mean for
  • 00:31:51
you to say that you are an inner
  • 00:31:56
feeling so take a look really
  • 00:31:59
    carefully are you an inner
  • 00:32:08
feeling if you look carefully you should
  • 00:32:11
conclude that you're not because your
  • 00:32:14
    inner feelings are always
  • 00:32:17
changing even Sensations for example in
  • 00:32:19
your chest or behind the back of your
  • 00:32:22
eyes these Sensations which you might
  • 00:32:24
    identify with
  • 00:32:28
    they're still always
  • 00:32:30
    changing they're not
  • 00:32:33
    constant they're
  • 00:32:35
animated they have degrees of severity
  • 00:32:37
and so forth and sometimes they're
  • 00:32:39
    totally
  • 00:32:42
    absent for example when you're
  • 00:32:48
asleep good now let's consider the final
  • 00:32:51
    Channel which is
  • 00:32:55
    thoughts are you a thought
  • 00:33:01
let's break this down into several
  • 00:33:02
    components first let's consider your
  • 00:33:04
internal dialogue and what we might call
  • 00:33:06
    your internal
  • 00:33:08
voice the way that you usually talk to
  • 00:33:13
yourself are you the internal voice take
  • 00:33:16
a look now the internal voice is
  • 00:33:18
    something that we identify with
  • 00:33:21
    usually automatically without even
  • 00:33:23
thinking about it much the inner voice
  • 00:33:25
    feels like it's me
  • 00:33:29
but I want you just to look at this very
  • 00:33:31
objectively and just with very simple
  • 00:33:35
logic if you believe that you are the
  • 00:33:38
inner voice and that really feels like
  • 00:33:41
    that's what you
  • 00:33:43
are that means that if the inner voice
  • 00:33:47
    ever stopped
  • 00:33:49
    speaking you would
  • 00:33:54
disappear that also means that the inner
  • 00:33:56
voice had to have been constantly
  • 00:33:59
speaking from the moment you were born
  • 00:34:01
    up till
  • 00:34:02
    today without ever
  • 00:34:09
stopping so are you the inner
  • 00:34:17
voice or are you the one who hears the
  • 00:34:20
    inner voice notice the
  • 00:34:24
difference you probably want to say that
  • 00:34:27
no I'm the one one who hears the inner
  • 00:34:29
voice I'm not literally the inner
  • 00:34:32
voice cu the inner voice is not
  • 00:34:39
constant there are gaps between the
  • 00:34:42
    inner
  • 00:34:43
voice you don't even have to be a very
  • 00:34:46
good meditator to be aware of
  • 00:34:51
that so you can't be the inner voice can
  • 00:34:56
    you let's consider inner
  • 00:35:01
images notice that what you have many of
  • 00:35:03
    your thoughts are visual
  • 00:35:05
thoughts you can picture an apple a car
  • 00:35:10
a tree a house a person your mom your
  • 00:35:14
dad your spouse you can picture all
  • 00:35:17
    these things with your eyes
  • 00:35:19
    closed these are all internal
  • 00:35:22
    images you can also picture
  • 00:35:25
yourself you can picture your face
  • 00:35:28
with your eyes closed you can picture
  • 00:35:30
the back of your head with your eyes
  • 00:35:32
closed you can picture the silhouette of
  • 00:35:35
    your
  • 00:35:36
body as though it was filmed by a camera
  • 00:35:39
from behind you with your eyes closed
  • 00:35:42
you can picture your arms in your your
  • 00:35:44
feet even though you can't see
  • 00:35:49
them you can picture very many
  • 00:35:52
things now the question is are you a
  • 00:35:57
    picture
  • 00:35:58
    is that what you literally
  • 00:36:00
are let's take a look really
  • 00:36:04
carefully and if you're going to say
  • 00:36:06
    that yes I am a
  • 00:36:08
picture then I want you to be very clear
  • 00:36:10
and precise about which picture it is
  • 00:36:13
    that you
  • 00:36:17
are notice that pictures are constantly
  • 00:36:19
changing in your mind so which picture
  • 00:36:22
are you are you the picture of your face
  • 00:36:24
    is that what you are
  • 00:36:29
what if your face got disfigured and how
  • 00:36:33
    it looked has
  • 00:36:35
changed would that change who you
  • 00:36:39
    are most people would say
  • 00:36:42
no are you the picture of the outline of
  • 00:36:45
    your
  • 00:36:47
body you might at first be tempted to
  • 00:36:49
say yes I am but then notice that if you
  • 00:36:52
lost an arm or a leg and it got
  • 00:36:55
    amputated
  • 00:37:00
the picture in your mind would have to
  • 00:37:03
change and yet we would still say that
  • 00:37:06
you're basically you and that nothing
  • 00:37:08
really about you has changed you just
  • 00:37:10
    lost an arm or a
  • 00:37:14
leg also notice that if you do identify
  • 00:37:19
with any image at all that means that
  • 00:37:22
    that
  • 00:37:22
    image has to have been
  • 00:37:25
    constantly displayed in your mind
  • 00:37:28
from the moment you were born up till
  • 00:37:30
    today without any
  • 00:37:33
interruptions do you find such an image
  • 00:37:36
    in your
  • 00:37:39
mind or is every image in your mind
  • 00:37:43
changing all the time like every five
  • 00:37:48
seconds if you're like the average
  • 00:37:50
person if you're like me every 5 Seconds
  • 00:37:52
you have new images in your
  • 00:37:54
mind right picture purple elephant with
  • 00:37:59
    polka
  • 00:38:01
dots see now you have that image in your
  • 00:38:04
mind and whatever you were thinking
  • 00:38:06
    before you've stopped probably thinking
  • 00:38:09
about so notice that you're not an image
  • 00:38:13
in your mind that doesn't make very much
  • 00:38:19
sense and the final thing let's consider
  • 00:38:22
is the ey thought what I'm going to call
  • 00:38:26
    the ey thought
  • 00:38:29
the thought in your mind that says this
  • 00:38:31
    is
  • 00:38:33
me this is me here I am I I am here I
  • 00:38:38
exist so put your awareness on that
  • 00:38:43
aspect of your mind right now the eye
  • 00:38:48
thought and take a look and ask yourself
  • 00:38:52
    are you the I
  • 00:38:55
thought now it seems like we're getting
  • 00:38:57
somewhere now it seems like we're really
  • 00:38:59
going deep we've gone through all the
  • 00:39:01
Clutter and now we've gotten to the very
  • 00:39:03
core of who you are you're this I
  • 00:39:05
    thought
  • 00:39:08
    right but wait a
  • 00:39:11
minute notice that this I thought if you
  • 00:39:14
believe you are the I thought that the I
  • 00:39:17
    thought isn't constantly
  • 00:39:24
present there are many moments in your
  • 00:39:27
day where where you have no thoughts
  • 00:39:28
    about
  • 00:39:29
yourself where there is no ey thought
  • 00:39:32
    where there is no internal
  • 00:39:36
    dialogue most obviously when you're
  • 00:39:39
asleep but also when you're tired or
  • 00:39:42
even when you're talking someone or
  • 00:39:43
    you're playing a video game or you're
  • 00:39:45
watching a movie you're not thinking
  • 00:39:46
about yourself there is no ey
  • 00:39:49
thought so if what you actually
  • 00:39:51
    literally are is an I
  • 00:39:55
    thought that ey thought
  • 00:39:58
would have to have been constantly
  • 00:40:00
active from the moment you were born
  • 00:40:02
    until
  • 00:40:04
today and that's clearly not the
  • 00:40:08
case the I thought is not even active
  • 00:40:10
for 24 hours let alone for decades at a
  • 00:40:17
time so now it gets a little tricky
  • 00:40:21
because we're starting to run out of
  • 00:40:23
    things that you could
  • 00:40:26
    be what is is
  • 00:40:29
    left we've eliminated sights sounds
  • 00:40:32
    smells tastes touches feelings internal
  • 00:40:35
    external
  • 00:40:37
ones we've eliminated all sorts of
  • 00:40:39
thoughts and internal dialogue what is
  • 00:40:43
left you might say well Leo what I am is
  • 00:40:46
    I'm the
  • 00:40:47
body I'm the entire collection of all of
  • 00:40:50
    these
  • 00:40:53
things but notice that what the body is
  • 00:40:57
what you're calling the body in this
  • 00:40:59
case is just either a feeling or a
  • 00:41:02
    thought an image in your
  • 00:41:05
mind or a combination of these occurring
  • 00:41:11
    simultaneously and notice that this
  • 00:41:13
combination that you're calling the body
  • 00:41:16
    isn't constantly
  • 00:41:24
active you might also say well Leo Maybe
  • 00:41:27
not the body maybe what I am is I just
  • 00:41:29
have this vague sense that I exist I'm
  • 00:41:32
not quite sure what I am but I just have
  • 00:41:34
this intuition I'm a very intuitive
  • 00:41:36
person and intuitively I just know that
  • 00:41:38
    I'm I'm a soul I'm a sort of
  • 00:41:40
    Consciousness I'm here I'm present I'm
  • 00:41:42
aware I'm this living entity I have
  • 00:41:45
senscience I have this intuition so I'm
  • 00:41:48
    this intuitive
  • 00:41:50
thing but notice that whatever you call
  • 00:41:55
    intuition very carefully examine what
  • 00:41:57
that is be very clear about
  • 00:42:01
it what you'll notice is that an
  • 00:42:03
    intuition is just a
  • 00:42:06
    feeling in your
  • 00:42:08
    body or it's a
  • 00:42:11
    thought or
  • 00:42:15
both and also notice that this intuition
  • 00:42:18
    is also not constantly
  • 00:42:25
active so this intuition cannot be
  • 00:42:31
you now you might say well Leo what I am
  • 00:42:34
maybe is not an intuition but I'm just
  • 00:42:36
I'm there behind the scenes you know all
  • 00:42:38
this stuff is happening to me but I'm
  • 00:42:40
just there behind the scenes somewhere
  • 00:42:41
I'm not really sure what I am I'm just
  • 00:42:43
behind the scenes I just know I
  • 00:42:46
am okay well what I want you to notice
  • 00:42:48
is that sense that you are behind the
  • 00:42:52
scenes that what that actually literally
  • 00:42:55
is is a thought thought or a
  • 00:43:03
feeling if there were no thoughts or
  • 00:43:05
feelings there would be no sense of you
  • 00:43:08
    behind the
  • 00:43:14
scenes so we've run out of
  • 00:43:18
    room we've run out of
  • 00:43:23
channels notice that as much as you look
  • 00:43:26
    as hard as you
  • 00:43:28
look and you could sit there and I could
  • 00:43:31
give you 10 days of straight sitting and
  • 00:43:35
looking you cannot find what I'm going
  • 00:43:40
    to call The Source
  • 00:43:46
self what you fundamentally believe that
  • 00:43:50
you are is not a body or a mind or a
  • 00:43:55
brain or some neuron or a feeling or an
  • 00:43:58
Intuition or a thought or any of this
  • 00:44:00
kind of stuff what you fundamentally
  • 00:44:02
believe you are is that you're the
  • 00:44:05
    perceiver the
  • 00:44:07
experiencer of all of these experiences
  • 00:44:12
    or
  • 00:44:14
    perceptions
  • 00:44:16
right doesn't that feel right that what
  • 00:44:19
    you are is you're the
  • 00:44:24
perceiver but notice that this perceiver
  • 00:44:26
no matter how much we look and we try to
  • 00:44:29
    pinpoint where is this
  • 00:44:32
    perceiver you can't actually find
  • 00:44:39
it this is what we're calling the source
  • 00:44:42
    self is this
  • 00:44:47
perceiver what we say is we say I am
  • 00:44:50
experiencing the body I am experiencing
  • 00:44:54
the ey thought I am having an intuition
  • 00:44:57
    right because
  • 00:44:59
I is the perceiver that's perceiving all
  • 00:45:02
    of
  • 00:45:08
    experience notice though that this
  • 00:45:10
perceiver or Source self is itself not
  • 00:45:14
    an
  • 00:45:22
    experience now that's very odd
  • 00:45:28
because on the one hand you feel like
  • 00:45:30
you've experienced all this stuff in
  • 00:45:32
life and all you have of life is
  • 00:45:35
experience there is nothing else to life
  • 00:45:38
    but
  • 00:45:40
experience so become conscious of that
  • 00:45:43
but also now become conscious of the
  • 00:45:45
fact that you are not an
  • 00:45:48
    experience what you are physically
  • 00:45:51
    metaphysically existentially is not an
  • 00:45:54
experience and cannot be an experience
  • 00:45:56
    because every single experience you've
  • 00:45:58
    ever had in your
  • 00:45:59
    life has
  • 00:46:01
changed and will change and changes on a
  • 00:46:05
    momentto moment
  • 00:46:13
basis so the question is what actually
  • 00:46:17
    are
  • 00:46:18
you because right now if you've been
  • 00:46:20
following with me what you are is a
  • 00:46:23
    question mark
  • 00:46:27
I mean we could say that you're a
  • 00:46:28
perceiver but what this perceiver is we
  • 00:46:30
have no clue or where it is we don't
  • 00:46:33
even know where it's located you might
  • 00:46:34
say well it's located in my skull
  • 00:46:37
obviously or maybe in my chest or in my
  • 00:46:40
throat or somewhere in the body but
  • 00:46:44
that's not how how can you be sure you
  • 00:46:46
haven't even figured out what it is and
  • 00:46:49
you certainly haven't located it because
  • 00:46:51
if you located it you could tell me what
  • 00:46:52
    it is
  • 00:46:57
and if you do happen to locate something
  • 00:46:58
and you say well Leo that's
  • 00:47:01
it well what you're pointing at is
  • 00:47:04
    another
  • 00:47:06
    experience you don't actually believe
  • 00:47:07
you're that thing you believe you're the
  • 00:47:10
perceiver of that thing so notice that
  • 00:47:12
this is a very slippery game that we
  • 00:47:17
play is that whatever we point to by
  • 00:47:20
    definition cannot be
  • 00:47:21
us because it's an experience and we're
  • 00:47:24
not an experience we're the one pering
  • 00:47:27
    the
  • 00:47:32
experience your mind should be opening
  • 00:47:34
up now to a very interesting possibility
  • 00:47:38
and this possibility is that it's never
  • 00:47:40
really Aur to you to question what you
  • 00:47:42
are existentially before in your entire
  • 00:47:46
life you've just kind of assumed that
  • 00:47:48
you're there and that you exist and that
  • 00:47:50
you are something tangible and very real
  • 00:47:54
and yet when you actually look into the
  • 00:47:56
    matter
  • 00:47:57
as hard as you try and you can try for
  • 00:47:59
hundreds of hours you will discover that
  • 00:48:02
    you cannot find
  • 00:48:07
yourself so could it be that what you
  • 00:48:12
are is something very different than you
  • 00:48:20
assumed let's examine some of your core
  • 00:48:24
    assumptions core assumption number one
  • 00:48:26
    is that you
  • 00:48:31
    exist it's almost Unthinkable to
  • 00:48:33
    question this assumption because well
  • 00:48:35
here you are holding the Assumption so
  • 00:48:38
obviously you exist right well let's
  • 00:48:40
just be very open-minded and just take
  • 00:48:42
    this as an
  • 00:48:44
assumption so assumption number one is
  • 00:48:46
    that you
  • 00:48:47
exist assumption number two is that you
  • 00:48:50
    are an
  • 00:48:52
object or a thing that can be found
  • 00:48:57
    that can be
  • 00:49:00
    located that has a
  • 00:49:06
shape and assumption number three is
  • 00:49:08
    that you are located in
  • 00:49:13
space right you assume that you're
  • 00:49:16
    located
  • 00:49:17
    somewhere you're not without
  • 00:49:22
location so those are three core
  • 00:49:24
    assumptions you hold
  • 00:49:27
now my question to you if you're very
  • 00:49:29
    open-minded could any of these
  • 00:49:31
    assumptions be
  • 00:49:36
wrong how can you be sure that these
  • 00:49:40
    assumptions are all
  • 00:49:45
true now you might say well Leo these
  • 00:49:48
are some very very basic self-evident
  • 00:49:50
    assumptions they can't be
  • 00:49:53
otherwise but I want you to consider
  • 00:49:55
    very carefully that
  • 00:49:57
we're looking into the very nature of
  • 00:50:00
    your
  • 00:50:01
    existence we're looking to something
  • 00:50:03
    very very
  • 00:50:04
    existentially in a very fundamental
  • 00:50:07
basic way we're looking at the very
  • 00:50:08
    basic building blocks of
  • 00:50:11
life so your assumptions about what
  • 00:50:13
    could or couldn't be
  • 00:50:16
true be careful about that because those
  • 00:50:19
    are based on everyday normal
  • 00:50:24
experience they are not based upon on
  • 00:50:27
    deep existential
  • 00:50:34
investigation and also notice that you
  • 00:50:37
have no frame of reference in this
  • 00:50:40
    investigation because what we're calling
  • 00:50:42
you yourself what you are it's not like
  • 00:50:45
you've been a hundred different human
  • 00:50:48
beings so you have no frame of reference
  • 00:50:51
because you have no experience you've
  • 00:50:53
never been someone else have you you've
  • 00:50:56
    only been
  • 00:50:57
    yourself so we're dealing
  • 00:51:00
    with one
  • 00:51:03
    example the only
  • 00:51:08
example so we can't really know what's
  • 00:51:12
    probable or improbable what's realistic
  • 00:51:16
    or what's far-fetched
  • 00:51:18
because we only have one example and we
  • 00:51:21
can't compare it to anything else and
  • 00:51:24
what you are is not comparable to a
  • 00:51:27
chair or a car or a tree or a planet or
  • 00:51:31
a Galaxy or a molecule or anything else
  • 00:51:34
like that because those are all again
  • 00:51:40
experiences what you are is a very
  • 00:51:42
    different
  • 00:51:45
thing so could it be that your very
  • 00:51:48
    nature is radically different from
  • 00:51:52
    ordinary everyday objects
  • 00:51:59
and could it be that some of these
  • 00:52:00
assumptions you hold that you are an
  • 00:52:02
object that you're located in space and
  • 00:52:04
even that you exist that some of these
  • 00:52:06
    assumptions are
  • 00:52:10
    groundless and just
  • 00:52:13
    assumptions made carelessly without
  • 00:52:16
    careful investigation into whether they
  • 00:52:18
    are true or
  • 00:52:22
not what I want you to consider is the
  • 00:52:24
possibility that you've been misled LED
  • 00:52:27
    from
  • 00:52:28
birth that you were born and people
  • 00:52:32
    starting with your parents started
  • 00:52:33
pointing at you and saying that's you
  • 00:52:37
the body the brain the mind this is you
  • 00:52:41
and you went through school and you went
  • 00:52:43
to college and you interacted with all
  • 00:52:44
your friends and everyone assumed this
  • 00:52:47
    from the very
  • 00:52:49
beginning but all of this was a mistake
  • 00:52:52
you've been misled by people who were
  • 00:52:54
themselves misled and never took the
  • 00:52:56
time to look very carefully into who
  • 00:52:58
they were they just assumed that they
  • 00:53:01
    were a body a mind and a
  • 00:53:06
brain this isn't so far-fetched because
  • 00:53:09
after all you do acknowledge that
  • 00:53:11
    indoctrination is possible especially
  • 00:53:15
with young human beings you know that if
  • 00:53:17
we take a child and we indoctrinate this
  • 00:53:20
child from the very moment he is born
  • 00:53:23
and we tell him some religious ideology
  • 00:53:26
or some political philosophy that this
  • 00:53:29
child without knowing any better if he
  • 00:53:31
grows up in in that environment he will
  • 00:53:34
    believe
  • 00:53:36
    unquestionably whatever he's been taught
  • 00:53:39
and that will get programmed and sort of
  • 00:53:41
imprinted into his mind and it'll be
  • 00:53:43
very difficult for him to see the world
  • 00:53:45
in any other way so now what I want you
  • 00:53:48
to do as part of this visualization is I
  • 00:53:49
want you to actually imagine that this
  • 00:53:51
child is you and that when you were born
  • 00:53:55
and growing up and all the way up to
  • 00:53:57
    today you have been
  • 00:54:00
indoctrinated not in a malicious way but
  • 00:54:02
    in an unconscious
  • 00:54:03
way with a ideology that what you are is
  • 00:54:08
an object a body a mind and a
  • 00:54:12
brain and that actually this is not
  • 00:54:24
true just open your mind to that POS
  • 00:54:26
ability remember this is just a thought
  • 00:54:27
experiment I'm not telling you to
  • 00:54:29
believe me I'm not saying this is
  • 00:54:30
    absolutely true I'm just
  • 00:54:32
saying just imagine it for the next few
  • 00:54:35
    minutes as a thought
  • 00:54:39
experiment and now again look very
  • 00:54:42
closely keep your eyes still closed look
  • 00:54:45
very closely inside yourself and try to
  • 00:54:48
find what we're calling the source self
  • 00:54:52
    the
  • 00:54:53
perceiver of all your experiences try to
  • 00:54:56
    find
  • 00:55:03
you notice that anything that you grasp
  • 00:55:08
    on to as you isn't
  • 00:55:13
you notice how the mind scrambles and
  • 00:55:16
tries to cling to one thing after
  • 00:55:18
another thing after another thing but
  • 00:55:20
that nothing that it clings to is
  • 00:55:22
    actually you
  • 00:55:28
it's like sand that slips through your
  • 00:55:36
fingers and now here's the critical step
  • 00:55:39
    of this
  • 00:55:40
entire inquiry process make sure you do
  • 00:55:44
    this right
  • 00:55:46
here again look for the source self
  • 00:55:49
really try to pinpoint what you are what
  • 00:55:53
    are you physically existentially
  • 00:55:55
    metaphysically
  • 00:55:58
    like
  • 00:56:00
    really No Nonsense no Hocus
  • 00:56:03
    Pocus no philosophy no religious
  • 00:56:07
just what are you right now in
  • 00:56:09
    your direct
  • 00:56:11
    experience find
  • 00:56:21
yourself and notice again that you
  • 00:56:24
    failed you failed to find
  • 00:56:30
yourself now here's the kicker listen
  • 00:56:33
    very
  • 00:56:34
close right in the moment of failing to
  • 00:56:36
find yourself what I want you to notice
  • 00:56:39
    is that actually you're not
  • 00:56:42
failing when you're grasping and it
  • 00:56:44
feels like you're grasping at empty
  • 00:56:47
air and that nothing you grasp is
  • 00:56:49
actually you and that what you are is
  • 00:56:53
    intangible notice that happening right
  • 00:56:55
now for you and it feels like you're
  • 00:56:58
failing to grasp on you're still you're
  • 00:57:00
looking you're looking for an object to
  • 00:57:02
    grasp on
  • 00:57:04
to what I want you to notice is that
  • 00:57:07
    actually you're not
  • 00:57:08
failing you found yourself what you are
  • 00:57:12
    is you are this empty
  • 00:57:24
    nothing that you're grasping inside
  • 00:57:29
of but you're telling yourself that
  • 00:57:32
can't be me I have to be a
  • 00:57:39
thing and I what I want you to open your
  • 00:57:42
mind to is to the possibility that you
  • 00:57:45
    are purely
  • 00:57:50
    nothing you
  • 00:57:52
exist but you exist as nothing
  • 00:57:59
and that there is no content or
  • 00:58:02
experience that is you and that it will
  • 00:58:05
never ever be found because what you are
  • 00:58:08
is you are nothing you are it that is
  • 00:58:12
you that is real that is as real as real
  • 00:58:18
    gets and that this
  • 00:58:21
    nothingness it
  • 00:58:23
exists and not only does it exist but it
  • 00:58:26
    is also
  • 00:58:29
    self-aware it is an inherently
  • 00:58:31
    self-aware
  • 00:58:35
    nothingness now notice that whatever
  • 00:58:38
image you might have or opinion or idea
  • 00:58:40
you might have of this nothingness that
  • 00:58:42
is not nothingness that's not what I'm
  • 00:58:44
talking about what I'm telling you is to
  • 00:58:47
    be actually
  • 00:58:50
become that which you have been failing
  • 00:58:52
    to find
  • 00:58:57
    become it you are
  • 00:59:00
it there's really nothing for you to do
  • 00:59:02
here because you are it you've always
  • 00:59:04
been it it's the only one constant
  • 00:59:07
that's existed from the moment you were
  • 00:59:08
    born to
  • 00:59:10
today in fact it's existed before you
  • 00:59:13
    were even
  • 00:59:20
born this nothing is not Darkness or
  • 00:59:22
    Blackness don't confuse nothing with
  • 00:59:25
    that
  • 00:59:27
this nothing is not also your idea of
  • 00:59:30
nothing or an experience of nothing
  • 00:59:33
remember that anything you experience is
  • 00:59:36
    not
  • 00:59:37
nothing what I'm talking about here is
  • 00:59:40
    actual honest to God
  • 00:59:44
    nothing it is not an
  • 00:59:47
experience you cannot grasp it with your
  • 00:59:50
mind you cannot think about it
  • 00:59:53
    cognitively
  • 00:59:56
this nothing is not an object it is not
  • 00:59:59
    a
  • 00:59:59
thing it is not located in any
  • 01:00:04
    space it has no cartisian
  • 01:00:08
coordinates it is not big it is not
  • 01:00:11
small it is not tall it is not short it
  • 01:00:14
is not wide it is not thin it is not
  • 01:00:19
    solid it is not
  • 01:00:22
empty it has no color it has no shape it
  • 01:00:25
has no smell no taste no
  • 01:00:31
anything this nothing instead of being
  • 01:00:35
    located it is an infinite
  • 01:00:41
field so try to be no don't just imagine
  • 01:00:45
    actually become the infinite nothing
  • 01:00:48
field that you are this field is
  • 01:00:52
    self-aware all experience occurs within
  • 01:00:55
    this field
  • 01:00:58
the field itself is not an
  • 01:01:00
    experience experience is what occurs
  • 01:01:03
    inside the
  • 01:01:08
field and this is what you actually
  • 01:01:12
    are physically metaphysically and
  • 01:01:16
existentially this is what you are you
  • 01:01:18
    are a self-aware field of
  • 01:01:21
    nothingness that stretches out to
  • 01:01:23
    Infinity
  • 01:01:26
and has no end and no beginning and no
  • 01:01:32
    boundary and is absolutely
  • 01:01:52
constant just take a moment to bask in
  • 01:01:54
    that
  • 01:01:57
    let whatever you're
  • 01:02:01
    experiencing be
  • 01:02:05
okay don't try to force anything or
  • 01:02:07
    change
  • 01:02:08
anything just be open to whatever comes
  • 01:02:11
to you even if what comes to you is not
  • 01:02:14
    something that you
  • 01:02:15
    want or expected
  • 01:02:37
don't try to fake the experience of
  • 01:02:44
nothingness either it came to you or it
  • 01:02:46
didn't let either way be okay
  • 01:02:58
good now go ahead and open your eyes and
  • 01:03:01
that's the end of the guided
  • 01:03:05
visualization but I still have a few
  • 01:03:08
things that I want to tell to you so
  • 01:03:10
    don't end the episode
  • 01:03:14
yet two things happened here either you
  • 01:03:17
did have a direct experience of
  • 01:03:20
    nothingness or you
  • 01:03:22
didn't now if you didn't have a direct
  • 01:03:25
    experience of nothingness don't
  • 01:03:28
    worry it's
  • 01:03:31
fine most people will not have a direct
  • 01:03:35
    experience of nothingness from doing
  • 01:03:36
    this just
  • 01:03:37
once I have done way over a thousand
  • 01:03:41
    hours of this type of
  • 01:03:43
work and only once out of those let's
  • 01:03:47
say thousand hours I don't even know how
  • 01:03:48
    many hours I've lost
  • 01:03:50
track only once have I had a direct
  • 01:03:53
    experience
  • 01:03:56
so it can be a rare
  • 01:03:59
thing and it can take a lot of work to
  • 01:04:02
just get to the point where you can open
  • 01:04:03
your mind up sufficiently where you can
  • 01:04:07
even be open to this experience the
  • 01:04:09
problem is that most people minds are
  • 01:04:11
way too closed to even get close to
  • 01:04:14
    having this
  • 01:04:16
experience now I'm using the word
  • 01:04:18
experience because there's no other word
  • 01:04:19
that we have in the English
  • 01:04:22
language so I'm calling it an experience
  • 01:04:25
even though it's not really an
  • 01:04:28
experience now if you did have some kind
  • 01:04:31
of direct experience of this nothing of
  • 01:04:35
    what you actually
  • 01:04:36
    are then
  • 01:04:38
    congratulations don't freak out it's
  • 01:04:41
normal to be scared when you have this
  • 01:04:43
experience for the first time in your
  • 01:04:44
life it's a very radical experience
  • 01:04:47
    because you've never experienced
  • 01:04:49
yourself in your entire life until
  • 01:04:52
    now that's a huge accomplishment
  • 01:04:54
    congratulations
  • 01:04:57
it can be scary because this nothingness
  • 01:05:00
is very radically different from what
  • 01:05:02
you've believed you were and you've been
  • 01:05:04
    very very
  • 01:05:06
misled for the entirety of your life
  • 01:05:09
it's like you've awoken for the first
  • 01:05:11
time in your life it's a life
  • 01:05:13
    transforming
  • 01:05:17
    experience don't freak out it's not a
  • 01:05:20
negative experience it's a very positive
  • 01:05:22
experience but it can seem negative from
  • 01:05:25
the ego point of view because it's very
  • 01:05:27
threatening to your old way of looking
  • 01:05:30
    at the
  • 01:05:33
world take the time to clarify what you
  • 01:05:38
experienced here if you did experience
  • 01:05:40
    something actually clarify this
  • 01:05:42
nothingness what is it is it really you
  • 01:05:45
take a time to look at it write it down
  • 01:05:48
if you need to if you had something
  • 01:05:50
important occur for you because the
  • 01:05:53
clarification of it really helps for you
  • 01:05:55
to solidify in your own mind what this
  • 01:05:58
thing was it's a very mysterious and
  • 01:06:01
    paradoxical
  • 01:06:07
thing if you didn't have an experience
  • 01:06:09
like most of you probably didn't then
  • 01:06:12
    just keep
  • 01:06:13
noticing that if you look and you try to
  • 01:06:16
    locate yourself you actually
  • 01:06:19
    can't you can't find yourself there's a
  • 01:06:22
reason for that it's because you're not
  • 01:06:24
an object and you're not located in
  • 01:06:28
space keep questioning why you assume
  • 01:06:31
    that you are an
  • 01:06:34
object why would you assume that is that
  • 01:06:37
just something you heard from your
  • 01:06:38
parents from your teachers is that just
  • 01:06:41
something that seems reasonable to you
  • 01:06:44
seems intuitive to you is that something
  • 01:06:46
    that just science told
  • 01:06:48
you well just keep in mind that all
  • 01:06:50
these people they may not know who they
  • 01:06:53
are either so the things they tell you
  • 01:06:56
and the assumptions you pick up from our
  • 01:06:58
    culture could be very flawed
  • 01:07:01
assumptions after all if you were born
  • 01:07:03
2000 years ago chances are you had the
  • 01:07:06
    assumption that the Earth is
  • 01:07:09
    flat so our
  • 01:07:12
    culture dramatically influences our
  • 01:07:15
    assumptions about reality and don't
  • 01:07:18
think that just because we're living in
  • 01:07:19
a modern scientific era full of
  • 01:07:23
    technology that we are immune
  • 01:07:26
to wrong assumptions about the core
  • 01:07:29
existential nature of reality that is
  • 01:07:32
something that as a culture and even as
  • 01:07:35
    a
  • 01:07:38
    science we still haven't
  • 01:07:42
conquered we have a long way to go
  • 01:07:44
before we conquer that as a collective
  • 01:07:48
culture that's why it takes an extremely
  • 01:07:51
    radically open mind
  • 01:07:55
what I'm claiming though is that this
  • 01:07:58
practice here is a very profound
  • 01:07:59
practice you can do this by yourself you
  • 01:08:01
can rewatch this episode many many times
  • 01:08:03
you can listen to it I encourage you to
  • 01:08:05
do it hundreds thousands of times until
  • 01:08:08
    you break
  • 01:08:10
    through and discover empirically that
  • 01:08:13
you are nothing because this is not a
  • 01:08:17
theory of mine this is not something I
  • 01:08:19
just concocted sitting there in my room
  • 01:08:21
like oh what kind of interesting
  • 01:08:23
metaphysical mumbo jumbo I come up to
  • 01:08:26
just tell people that they could believe
  • 01:08:28
that's not what I'm doing here uh I'm
  • 01:08:31
claiming that this is an empirical
  • 01:08:33
    discovery that you can
  • 01:08:35
make if you are open-minded enough
  • 01:08:38
that's really all it takes is just
  • 01:08:40
    radical open-mindedness and then just
  • 01:08:41
    persistence with looking looking looking
  • 01:08:43
    looking looking looking looking and
  • 01:08:46
    not giving way to
  • 01:08:52
    distraction this nothingness that you
  • 01:08:54
are is the most profound thing that you
  • 01:08:57
    can discover in all of
  • 01:08:59
    life this nothingness is
  • 01:09:02
eternal which means that it exists
  • 01:09:04
outside of time and space time and space
  • 01:09:08
    are conceptual constructs that occur
  • 01:09:11
    within this
  • 01:09:14
nothingness these are very radical ideas
  • 01:09:18
they're more than ideas they're actually
  • 01:09:20
realities but the danger is that you
  • 01:09:22
take them as ideas and beliefs and as
  • 01:09:24
    soon as you
  • 01:09:25
    do you're nowhere you're back
  • 01:09:31
    in the delusion of your
  • 01:09:34
mind this nothingness is eternal and
  • 01:09:38
    it's also
  • 01:09:39
    self-aware so this nothingness don't
  • 01:09:41
confuse it with some existential Bleak
  • 01:09:44
    depressing nothingness this nothingness
  • 01:09:46
is the most Divine beautiful awe
  • 01:09:50
inspiring miraculous thing that you can
  • 01:09:53
discover it's not a thing but we have no
  • 01:09:56
words in the English language for not a
  • 01:10:01
thing other than nothingness you see how
  • 01:10:04
    it works it's
  • 01:10:07
    self-aware but it's not a human
  • 01:10:10
being it's not a molecule it's not an
  • 01:10:12
atom it's not matter it's not energy
  • 01:10:14
it's not Spirit or Soul what you might
  • 01:10:17
call I mean you could call it that but
  • 01:10:20
uh that just really gets you lost in
  • 01:10:21
labels and ideas that aren't very
  • 01:10:23
    helpful
  • 01:10:30
    this is the nety nety
  • 01:10:34
    method old old old ancient
  • 01:10:37
method all you're doing here is you're
  • 01:10:39
just sitting you're trying to find what
  • 01:10:42
you actually are and you keep failing
  • 01:10:45
over and over and over and over and over
  • 01:10:47
again and you're going to fail tens of
  • 01:10:49
thousands if not hundreds of thousands
  • 01:10:51
of times until your brain can't take it
  • 01:10:54
anymore it becomes too painful and
  • 01:10:56
finally what happens is that there is a
  • 01:10:58
surrender and you surrender to the fact
  • 01:11:00
that the thing you were not finding is
  • 01:11:02
    actually
  • 01:11:04
you you can't find it because you assume
  • 01:11:08
that you're something and what you are
  • 01:11:10
is nothing so it's like you're looking
  • 01:11:13
for a needle in the hay
  • 01:11:17
stack and the needle turns out to
  • 01:11:21
    be the air
  • 01:11:26
    the empty
  • 01:11:28
air that is between the the hay
  • 01:11:36
stack but that can take a lot of work to
  • 01:11:39
crack that nut can take a lot of work to
  • 01:11:42
crack so I encourage you to keep at it
  • 01:11:46
keep your faith keep going for it
  • 01:11:48
remember this is not a belief system
  • 01:11:50
this is an empirical discovery that
  • 01:11:52
    anyone can make including you
  • 01:11:55

I mean awesome in the religious sense in
  • 01:12:56
    the spiritual
  • 01:12:58
sense this nothingness is where the word
  • 01:13:02
awesome comes from if you ever even
  • 01:13:06
glance upon this nothingness if you have
  • 01:13:08
that privilege in your life and you do
  • 01:13:10
the work to get it then uh you will know

empirical and very tangible that you can
  • 01:13:45
uh tap into yourself and when you can

    actually synergize and combine the
  • 01:13:51
