all right guys uh welcome back we got
  • 00:00:05
another video uh coming at you this time
  • 00:00:08
with the psychological effects from Pump
  • 00:00:11
It Up uh this is actually something that
  • 00:00:14
I've been more and more passionate about
  • 00:00:17
as time has gone on as I've gotten older
  • 00:00:19
and with all the things that I've dealt
  • 00:00:20
with my personal life over the last
  • 00:00:22
couple years uh I've started to heavily
  • 00:00:24
prioritize uh my mental health and I'm
  • 00:00:28
here today uh to talk to you about
  • 00:00:31
    mental health and again the
  • 00:00:32
psychological effects that can come out
  • 00:00:34
from Pump It Up or you could really
  • 00:00:36
apply this to literally anything i mean
  • 00:00:39
if you want to just stick to the genre
  • 00:00:41
you could just say for all rhythm games
  • 00:00:43
it's very very important and you can
  • 00:00:45
apply it to all of them um before I get
  • 00:00:47
into it I do want to say thank you guys
  • 00:00:49
for all the positive feedback that you
  • 00:00:51
gave on the last video that was like
  • 00:00:53
this in the discussion format type of uh
  • 00:00:56
content uh it makes me really happy that
  • 00:00:58
you guys are enjoying that and this is
  • 00:00:59
the second one now um I did write down a
  • 00:01:02
couple of bullet points that I have like
  • 00:01:04
just right in front of me just so I
  • 00:01:05
don't forget any crucial things to talk
  • 00:01:08
about but this is a topic that I've
  • 00:01:11
never honestly heard anybody ever talk
  • 00:01:13
about and um again this is uh purely
  • 00:01:17
being made just straight from passion
  • 00:01:19
    honestly uh there's obviously there
  • 00:01:21
there's no there's no uh major revenue
  • 00:01:25
or anything like that that's going to be
  • 00:01:26
earned from this type of video um and
  • 00:01:28
even just with rhythm games as a whole
  • 00:01:30
they're so niche um so there's really no
  • 00:01:33
uh drive or reason to really push out
  • 00:01:36
content in under that aspect and that
  • 00:01:38
mentality of you know trying to profit
  • 00:01:39
from it it's a straight passion um and
  • 00:01:42
again as I've gotten older I've been
  • 00:01:44
wanting to make this more and more and
  • 00:01:45
more so I'm glad I'm finally getting
  • 00:01:47
around to it um but I also again have to
  • 00:01:49
thank you guys because it really
  • 00:01:50
motivated me to do it so uh without any
  • 00:01:53
further ado let's just jump right into
  • 00:01:54
it so what are some psychological
  • 00:01:57
effects that can happen from playing uh
  • 00:01:59
Pump It Up uh well this again is going
  • 00:02:02
to apply to very specific uh people um
  • 00:02:06
that fit certain criterias and again I I
  • 00:02:09
need to make this clear to you as a
  • 00:02:10
disclaimer i'm not a you know
  • 00:02:12
    professional i'm not a therapist i'm not
  • 00:02:13
a psychologist uh so keep that in mind
  • 00:02:17
obviously I'm just a dance gamer with
  • 00:02:18
some opinions so again these are just my
  • 00:02:21
opinions and it's things that I've
  • 00:02:22
noticed um within myself in the past and
  • 00:02:26
uh currently other players that I've
  • 00:02:28
seen too it's as I've gotten older I've
  • 00:02:29
I've started to notice like all the red
  • 00:02:31
flags and uh signs of it uh existing
  • 00:02:34
within other people and it's really sad
  • 00:02:36
and unfortunate to see and um I'm going
  • 00:02:40
to get get distracted here so let's just
  • 00:02:42
jump right into it and then we'll talk
  • 00:02:44
about why this matters uh near the end
  • 00:02:47
of the video um so the first thing that
  • 00:02:50
is a very big concern for somebody is if
  • 00:02:53
your entire identity is pump it up
  • 00:02:56
that's literally it there's nothing else
  • 00:02:59
you care to talk about there's nothing
  • 00:03:01
you care to think about outside of that
  • 00:03:04
majority of your identity as a human
  • 00:03:07
being is the game uh that would mean
  • 00:03:11
when you're hanging out with people 99%
  • 00:03:14
of the time you're talking about pump it
  • 00:03:15
up you're thinking about pump it up uh
  • 00:03:17
when you're with your significant other
  • 00:03:19
you're thinking about pump it up when
  • 00:03:21
    you're going on a walk you're thinking
  • 00:03:22
about pump it up when you're at work
  • 00:03:24
you're thinking about pump it up when
  • 00:03:26
you're talking to other friends or
  • 00:03:27
groups you're thinking about pump it up
  • 00:03:29
or talking about pump it up it's one of
  • 00:03:30
the two or both thinking or talking
  • 00:03:32
about the game majority of your life uh
  • 00:03:35
obviously that's a huge concern um but
  • 00:03:38
again there's a lot of people that don't
  • 00:03:40
realize it uh including myself when
  • 00:03:42
again I was younger it wasn't Pump It Up
  • 00:03:44
uh primarily it used to be In the Groove
  • 00:03:46
um when I was growing up with that game
  • 00:03:48
I had a huge obsession with it um I
  • 00:03:51
thought it was passion and I guess you
  • 00:03:52
could argue some of it was passion um
  • 00:03:55
but that's the other point I want to
  • 00:03:56
bring up actually was the passion and
  • 00:03:58
drive uh determination whatever you want
  • 00:04:01
to call it motivation um that turns into
  • 00:04:04
    obsession that's another really big
  • 00:04:07
concern that can have a lot of
  • 00:04:08
psychological effects on you as a person
  • 00:04:11
    when you don't understand the
  • 00:04:13
differences and know how to distinguish
  • 00:04:14
the two or it could even whether it
  • 00:04:16
starts out as passion and and drive and
  • 00:04:19
motivation first uh and it slowly
  • 00:04:22
evolves into obsession uh or it's just
  • 00:04:25
right off the bat starts with obsession
  • 00:04:26
and doesn't doesn't ever turn into
  • 00:04:28
passion or drive that's the primary
  • 00:04:29
thing is just pure obsession that again
  • 00:04:32
    goes handinhand with everything here
  • 00:04:34
here i mean it all comes down to
  • 00:04:36
obsessed um I feel like a lot of people
  • 00:04:38
really need to hear this this is again
  • 00:04:40
why I'm making this video um and if
  • 00:04:42
you're one of those people that's uh
  • 00:04:44
struggling with these kind of things um
  • 00:04:46
it's okay to have those flaws you're a
  • 00:04:48
human being again I've had these issues
  • 00:04:50
too in the past and it took
  • 00:04:51
unfortunately longer than I'd like uh it
  • 00:04:55
unfortunately took longer than it needed
  • 00:04:57
to for me to realize that I had that
  • 00:05:00
problem and I had to do a lot of uh uh
  • 00:05:03
    self-improvement and get professional
  • 00:05:05
help um and I think it's kind of it's
  • 00:05:10
sad because it's it's a very big uh
  • 00:05:12
what's the word i think stigma is the
  • 00:05:13
word I'm looking for like like mental
  • 00:05:15
health especially like NA um I'm sure in
  • 00:05:18
plenty of other places in the world too
  • 00:05:19
where it's just like very frowned upon
  • 00:05:20
and like especially uh in men's mental
  • 00:05:24
health is like a very big one where I I
  • 00:05:26
noticed that it's very heavily frowned
  • 00:05:28
upon and gets uh uh a lot of cultures
  • 00:05:30
and different places people will cast
  • 00:05:32
judgment on uh everybody but primarily
  • 00:05:35
I've noticed in men um because of the
  • 00:05:37
whole you know mentality of you know men
  • 00:05:40
    don't cry quote unquote
  • 00:05:42
uh pe strong men don't show emotion you
  • 00:05:46
know things like that all those kind of
  • 00:05:47
uh toxic tropes that uh are just very
  • 00:05:50
outdated and need to just need to go
  • 00:05:53
    honestly uh but
  • 00:05:56
um passion and drive uh becoming
  • 00:05:59
    obsession that's another thing that's
  • 00:06:01
really concerning the next one would be
  • 00:06:04
um somebody that is dealing with a lot
  • 00:06:06
of uh obsession is going to be wanting
  • 00:06:08
constant validation uh this could be
  • 00:06:12
    again online through different social
  • 00:06:14
    media platforms Discord and Facebook
  • 00:06:17
groups or Messenger or Instagram or
  • 00:06:20
whatever have you people posting uh
  • 00:06:22
their achievements or videos um and it's
  • 00:06:25
okay to do all that don't get me wrong i
  • 00:06:26
mean I'm doing it uh the difference and
  • 00:06:29
the the the the line that you need to be
  • 00:06:32
careful to not cross is where basically
  • 00:06:35
have to ask yourself why are you posting
  • 00:06:38
what you're posting what is the reason
  • 00:06:40
behind it um if you're constantly
  • 00:06:42
    seeking validation and so therefore
  • 00:06:44
you're that's your drive and motive to
  • 00:06:47
uh not just post but play the game like
  • 00:06:49
    you're seeking that validation from
  • 00:06:51
strangers on the internet or peers or uh
  • 00:06:54
friendly rivalries that you have with
  • 00:06:56
random people or people you know IRL or
  • 00:06:58
whatever have you it doesn't matter at
  • 00:06:59
the end of the day if the the core
  • 00:07:01
    reason is you want
  • 00:07:03
validation uh that's obviously a problem
  • 00:07:05
    that's a concern it's like I I brought
  • 00:07:07
this up in the last video uh talking
  • 00:07:09
about the the title grinding and stuff
  • 00:07:11
like that um and it he it's very very
  • 00:07:14
important um if you're seeking that
  • 00:07:16
    validation from people you're never
  • 00:07:18
    going to be
  • 00:07:18
satisfied those people will never be
  • 00:07:20
satisfied either you could literally get
  • 00:07:23
    a perfect score on a level 25
  • 00:07:26
double and people will not be satisfied
  • 00:07:29
    and I'm speaking from firsthand
  • 00:07:30
experience when I got uh Dark Side of
  • 00:07:32
the Mind D25 I randomly went on Facebook
  • 00:07:36
and it loads in first thing I see is
  • 00:07:39
somebody posted uh uh it was some random
  • 00:07:41
pump it up group on Facebook they posted
  • 00:07:43
my my video of Dark Side of my D25 PG
  • 00:07:48
and there was probably I want to say
  • 00:07:51
around 100 comments or so 120 right
  • 00:07:54
around there and I'm going in there and
  • 00:07:56
it's in it's in Spanish but Facebook has
  • 00:07:58
a feature you can translate and uh most
  • 00:08:00
of it was just negative comments
  • 00:08:03
    negative comments from toxic people
  • 00:08:04
saying toxic things and uh there were
  • 00:08:08
granted there were people defending and
  • 00:08:09
arguing against those people uh but more
  • 00:08:12
so is people just being really toxic and
  • 00:08:14
negative and think about that perfecting
  • 00:08:17
a level 25 and there's people that will
  • 00:08:20
not be satisfied and will critique and
  • 00:08:22
point the finger at other play the what
  • 00:08:24
aboutism and say oh this and that or xyz
  • 00:08:26
or this he only got that because it's on
  • 00:08:28
his machine or private machine and he's
  • 00:08:30
only good on his machine right he
  • 00:08:32
doesn't enter tournaments or blah blah
  • 00:08:33
blah blah blah it's just you have to see
  • 00:08:35
you have to when that that happens you
  • 00:08:38
have to get off the internet like for
  • 00:08:40
your own mental health this is something
  • 00:08:43
uh again that I really struggle with and
  • 00:08:45
admittedly I still have uh an issue with
  • 00:08:47
it at times where if I see those those
  • 00:08:49
kind of comments it can get to me it can
  • 00:08:51
it can make me upset i'll have days
  • 00:08:52
where you know my mental game is not as
  • 00:08:54
strong and it'll bum me out and make me
  • 00:08:55
feel pretty crappy um but the difference
  • 00:08:58
between my old self and current self is
  • 00:09:01
that I will catch it i'll catch myself
  • 00:09:03
doing that and then can set myself back
  • 00:09:05
straight and get on the the proper road
  • 00:09:07
the mental road to go uh move forward
  • 00:09:10
and not uh dwell on it and not let it uh
  • 00:09:12
not let other people's opinions uh
  • 00:09:16
uh determine my value and tell tell me
  • 00:09:21
who I am factually right that's no one
  • 00:09:24
else's position but yourself um or
  • 00:09:26
people that are very close to you right
  • 00:09:28
people you consider very close friends
  • 00:09:29
and or family um but I'm bringing that
  • 00:09:33
example up to show you and like let you
  • 00:09:35
guys know that if you're going to be
  • 00:09:37
seeking validation from people like that
  • 00:09:38
through Pump It Up uh with your scores
  • 00:09:40
and videos of great scores or whatever
  • 00:09:42
it literally doesn't matter how good it
  • 00:09:44
is there will always be somebody that
  • 00:09:46
will be unsatisfied and you're con you
  • 00:09:48
will see it the more you're online like
  • 00:09:50
that the more you will see it um and the
  • 00:09:53
better you get the louder they will get
  • 00:09:56
um so really think that that was a one
  • 00:09:59
of the bigger points to bring up here
  • 00:10:01
and examples to show you uh I got plenty
  • 00:10:03
of other ones too but that one was the
  • 00:10:05
most recent and craziest one I saw where
  • 00:10:07
level 25 perfected as of now there's
  • 00:10:10
literally me and two other players that
  • 00:10:12
have done that ever and it's still not
  • 00:10:15
enough think about that um another trait
  • 00:10:19
    that can come with uh
  • 00:10:22
uh this being a concern is when uh you
  • 00:10:25
have a lot of insecurities now
  • 00:10:27
insecurities can obviously stem uh from
  • 00:10:30
other other aspects in your life right
  • 00:10:32
uh I used to be a very insecure person
  • 00:10:34
too about my physical appearance believe
  • 00:10:35
it or not um throughout uh most of my
  • 00:10:38
teen years and my early 20s um I had a
  • 00:10:41
lot of insecurity and I think it's okay
  • 00:10:43
to have insecurity don't get me wrong
  • 00:10:45
again we're all human beings everybody's
  • 00:10:46
flawed um everybody has their issues
  • 00:10:49
right i think the best thing the most
  • 00:10:50
important thing to mention though is
  • 00:10:52
acknowledge the flaws that you have and
  • 00:10:54
be aware of them that's the first step
  • 00:10:56
and then take the next step which a lot
  • 00:10:58
of people don't do is if you really feel
  • 00:11:00
like it's needed to you can't do it on
  • 00:11:02
your own they can't improve on your own
  • 00:11:03
    get professional help there's nothing
  • 00:11:05
wrong with that um now I know it's
  • 00:11:07
easier said than done for a lot of
  • 00:11:08
people because finances are a big issue
  • 00:11:10
too um but very very insecure that is a
  • 00:11:15
big one um and example for being like
  • 00:11:17
restricted to the topic of you know pump
  • 00:11:19
it up um I mean I can give a couple of
  • 00:11:22
examples you could have somebody picture
  • 00:11:25
this you're in a group setting whether
  • 00:11:26
it's an arcade or private home you're
  • 00:11:28
playing Pump It Up and uh let's just use
  • 00:11:31
you as the example you're an insecure
  • 00:11:32
person on the game and you're playing
  • 00:11:35
and uh you don't do as good as you want
  • 00:11:37
on a particular song and after the song
  • 00:11:40
you make a comment of oop Discord
  • 00:11:42
notification i don't know if you guys
  • 00:11:43
heard that sorry uh you get you don't
  • 00:11:46
perform as well as you uh wanted to and
  • 00:11:49
you just feel the need to make this this
  • 00:11:51
this comment that stems ultimately from
  • 00:11:55
being insecure of like oh man I you know
  • 00:11:58
my brain's just not working or there's
  • 00:12:00
it's very hard to explain this I am so
  • 00:12:02
sorry if you guys hear that Discord
  • 00:12:03
notification I need to turn that off
  • 00:12:05
sorry hold on there we go um it's really
  • 00:12:09
hard to explain this um through a video
  • 00:12:12
honestly because like some I feel like
  • 00:12:14
Some of these you're going to hear and
  • 00:12:15
be like "That doesn't sound bad." But
  • 00:12:16
it's a very specific way of saying it in
  • 00:12:19
a very specific tone you can the older
  • 00:12:22
you get or just the more mature you get
  • 00:12:24
you can pick up on it and that's what's
  • 00:12:25
been happening with me is I've been
  • 00:12:26
picking up on it with other people I've
  • 00:12:28
seen where they're playing that's one
  • 00:12:29
    example of this particular thing
  • 00:12:31
someone's playing a song and they just
  • 00:12:33
have to make a comment because they
  • 00:12:35
didn't get a PG or they didn't get a UG
  • 00:12:37
or whatever or they got a miss or they
  • 00:12:39
broke combo and they they just always
  • 00:12:41
have to make a comment about it of like
  • 00:12:43
I'm just not on my agame uh and over and
  • 00:12:45
over and over and over again it's like
  • 00:12:47
after every single song there's just
  • 00:12:50
never enough or uh like another example
  • 00:12:54
would be you get a bad score or you just
  • 00:12:57
not even necessarily a bad score you
  • 00:12:58
just don't get a score you want and you
  • 00:13:00
say "Yeah I can get that i can get a
  • 00:13:03
double S+ on that i can get a triple S+
  • 00:13:04
on that." you like awkwardly laugh kind
  • 00:13:06
of thing like afterwards like these are
  • 00:13:07
examples of things that I've heard uh
  • 00:13:09
through other players and it's like it's
  • 00:13:11
again one thing if you say that like one
  • 00:13:13
time but it's like if no one's saying
  • 00:13:15
anything and you feel the need to fill
  • 00:13:16
that empty air with like a very in
  • 00:13:18
clearly insecure comment it's not good
  • 00:13:21
for your mental and that can take a toll
  • 00:13:22
on you uh in the long run um there's
  • 00:13:26
plenty of other things that I can bring
  • 00:13:27
up as examples too um but off the top of
  • 00:13:30
my head those were the biggest concerns
  • 00:13:33
that could be uh the biggest traits that
  • 00:13:35
you can see in somebody that can be very
  • 00:13:37
    concerning for their psychological uh
  • 00:13:40
the psychological effects that that can
  • 00:13:41
have on you um not just in pump but more
  • 00:13:44
importantly uh in your whole life and
  • 00:13:47
I'm bringing this up uh not just to tell
  • 00:13:50
you hey go work on on this if you're
  • 00:13:52
struggling with any of these things you
  • 00:13:54
know if you feel you know insecure with
  • 00:13:55
your skill in the game if you feel like
  • 00:13:57
    you're constantly seeking validation
  • 00:13:58
from people uh online by posting scores
  • 00:14:01
like that's your main drive that's your
  • 00:14:03
reason that's your motive to play the
  • 00:14:04
game to get better is because you want
  • 00:14:06
    to
  • 00:14:07
uh impress other people and or get that
  • 00:14:10
    validation you're just you're always
  • 00:14:12
going to be chasing after that high and
  • 00:14:15
it will never be enough and it again
  • 00:14:18
you're going to drive yourself crazy you
  • 00:14:20
will drive yourself crazy if you
  • 00:14:21
constantly do this and uh I I gotta give
  • 00:14:24
    credit there was I don't I'm sorry
  • 00:14:26
whoever it was that made the comment but
  • 00:14:28
they they made a comment that um I'm not
  • 00:14:30
uh I'm paraphrasing here but they said
  • 00:14:31
something along the line of there's
  • 00:14:33
people that play this this game that
  • 00:14:35
that they they uh they clench it they
  • 00:14:38
they they grasp onto it so tightly
  • 00:14:41
because they found success in in the
  • 00:14:44
game right they could be really talented
  • 00:14:46
player and they're very gifted but they
  • 00:14:49
they're doing this because they lack the
  • 00:14:51
success and satisfaction u all these
  • 00:14:54
other areas in their life it could be
  • 00:14:56
one thing it could be multiple things it
  • 00:14:58
    could be everything and everybody's
  • 00:14:59
different but because they found success
  • 00:15:02
in getting better at this game they
  • 00:15:04
clench onto it and it they turn it into
  • 00:15:06
their entire identity and they make it
  • 00:15:08
um they make it their entire identity
  • 00:15:10
and they make it the only thing that
  • 00:15:13
shows like uh uh like their their their
  • 00:15:16
value like that's their value within
  • 00:15:18
themselves and they want other people to
  • 00:15:20
validate them because of how they feel
  • 00:15:22
about it um hopefully I said that well
  • 00:15:25
sorry I'm I'm so not used to making
  • 00:15:27
content like this uh either it's so
  • 00:15:29
abnormal to me but I'm usually used to
  • 00:15:31
live streaming and like looking over and
  • 00:15:33
like seeing like chat interacting with
  • 00:15:34
chat live on my main channel but anyway
  • 00:15:37
I wanted to bring attention to this and
  • 00:15:39
the last thing I wanted to mention too
  • 00:15:41
was um why does this all matter right
  • 00:15:44
well hopefully most people know why this
  • 00:15:47
matters it's really important because it
  • 00:15:49
affects your mental health which can
  • 00:15:50
affect you severely in your personal
  • 00:15:52
life uh with family friends excuse me
  • 00:15:56
loved ones um just in your in your life
  • 00:15:58
in general you know when you're alone
  • 00:16:00
too like it's going to affect your
  • 00:16:01
mental and you should always prioritize
  • 00:16:04
your mental health um not just to get
  • 00:16:08
better at the at a video game right
  • 00:16:10
because that's one aspect to it is if
  • 00:16:12
you take care of your mental health
  • 00:16:14
right there's a whole lot of other
  • 00:16:15
things that that go in with improving
  • 00:16:18
and and uh taking care of your mental
  • 00:16:21
health but on the topic of this where
  • 00:16:24
people that are obsessed and seeking
  • 00:16:26
that validation and all those things we
  • 00:16:27
talked about um if you work on those
  • 00:16:30
things um whether it's on your own or
  • 00:16:34
    hopefully through professional help if
  • 00:16:35
you're able to get access to that uh I
  • 00:16:37
strongly suggest it it'll really go a
  • 00:16:39
long way uh and you'll notice an
  • 00:16:41
improvement uh in your gameplay in the
  • 00:16:43
long run if you start to prioritize that
  • 00:16:45
and take care of that um but again much
  • 00:16:49
more importantly right because at the
  • 00:16:50
end of the day this is just a video game
  • 00:16:52
right it's way more important for you to
  • 00:16:54
prioritize taking care of your mental
  • 00:16:56
health for your life in general outside
  • 00:16:58
of the video game um sadly again there
  • 00:17:01
are people that will probably just
  • 00:17:02
prioritize this uh after this video and
  • 00:17:05
think like they just won't get it
  • 00:17:07
they'll think "Oh if I take care of my
  • 00:17:08
mental health I'll get better at pump."
  • 00:17:10
And like that's the only reason right
  • 00:17:11
it's like it's okay to have that be a
  • 00:17:13
reason but that again that shouldn't be
  • 00:17:14
the core reason right people should take
  • 00:17:16
care of their mental health so that they
  • 00:17:18
can better themselves become more mature
  • 00:17:20
be more healthy in the mental side of
  • 00:17:23
things uh and that'll go a long way in
  • 00:17:25
your life and then if you're not finding
  • 00:17:27
success right in life outside of a video
  • 00:17:30
game um your mental health taking care
  • 00:17:33
of your mental health can actually turn
  • 00:17:35
into uh finding success uh for whatever
  • 00:17:38
you know micro goals or big goals that
  • 00:17:40
you have in your personal life outside
  • 00:17:42
of pump um but again wanted to bring
  • 00:17:44
this up because I it does tie in on the
  • 00:17:48
topic of pump it up in the game of like
  • 00:17:50
people always asking me how do I get
  • 00:17:52
better i started to recently implement
  • 00:17:54
this into the conversation um and trying
  • 00:17:57
to read people that if I don't know them
  • 00:17:59
personally try to try to get a a feel
  • 00:18:01
for them and understand if they have any
  • 00:18:03
of these symptoms and like let them know
  • 00:18:04
like you know hey man I'm I'm telling
  • 00:18:06
you I'm coming from a place of you know
  • 00:18:07
care and love from this and not trying
  • 00:18:09
to uh you know scold you or uh judge you
  • 00:18:13
    right because everybody's human
  • 00:18:14
everybody's got their flaws and that's
  • 00:18:15
okay uh but point it out to them and try
  • 00:18:18
to give them uh advice and show examples
  • 00:18:20
right and then give them advice and uh
  • 00:18:23
people have been really thankful and
  • 00:18:25
appreciative of that because they never
  • 00:18:26
realized it i never realized it when I
  • 00:18:28
had that issue growing up it wasn't even
  • 00:18:30
that long ago i I said it originally it
  • 00:18:33
primarily was in in the groove but it
  • 00:18:35
did bleed into pump it up uh several
  • 00:18:36
years ago when I was first getting into
  • 00:18:38
it and I had to catch it um I had close
  • 00:18:42
ones tell me and I just never realized
  • 00:18:44
it because I was so uh emotionally
  • 00:18:46
immature uh back then but thankfully now
  • 00:18:49
I've been aware of it and now I start to
  • 00:18:51
implement this when again when people
  • 00:18:53
ask me how do I get better at this game
  • 00:18:55
um I'll tell them you know a lot of
  • 00:18:58
people talk about you know X Y and Z
  • 00:19:00
within the game right oh you know just
  • 00:19:02
work on brackets work on foot switches
  • 00:19:05
work on foot speed work on twists and do
  • 00:19:07
this and that all these things within
  • 00:19:08
the game right but no one ever talks
  • 00:19:11
about outside of the game and not again
  • 00:19:14
going back to my point before um working
  • 00:19:18
on your mental health um is obviously a
  • 00:19:21
great thing to do but again you
  • 00:19:23
shouldn't do it just to get better at
  • 00:19:25
the game but if we're going to be on
  • 00:19:27
that topic with that said um it's really
  • 00:19:31
it's it's just a topic that no one talks
  • 00:19:32
about no one talks about it and things
  • 00:19:34
like you know um if you want to go
  • 00:19:36
outside of the the stuff we talked about
  • 00:19:38
    with you know seeking validation
  • 00:19:40
    constantly insecure insecurity um
  • 00:19:42
obsession like put those things aside
  • 00:19:44
right um some other thing I feel like I
  • 00:19:47
need to make another video on on this
  • 00:19:49
stuff too um which I probably will in
  • 00:19:51
the future if people keep giving uh
  • 00:19:53
positive feedback on this type of format
  • 00:19:55
of content um what was I getting I'm
  • 00:19:59
sorry well to dabble in a little bit of
  • 00:20:02
the the topic ics of you know the um the
  • 00:20:05
mental health side of things outside of
  • 00:20:06
what we discuss on this video um just to
  • 00:20:10
lightly touch on it I would say you know
  • 00:20:13
sleep schedule is really important uh
  • 00:20:14
your diet is really important um that
  • 00:20:17
that's more of physique and physical
  • 00:20:19
health um but at the same time eating
  • 00:20:22
poorly can affect your mental then again
  • 00:20:25
um staying hydrated drink water guys uh
  • 00:20:28
that's coming from someone who had a
  • 00:20:29
kidney stone and a really bad one at
  • 00:20:31
that um etc etc like I again I don't
  • 00:20:34
want to get too deep into the the you
  • 00:20:37
know branching out to those kind of uh
  • 00:20:39
mental health topics i'll make another
  • 00:20:40
video for that but it it actually plays
  • 00:20:43
quite an important role into getting
  • 00:20:44
better um I mentioned that I've gone
  • 00:20:46
through quite a bit of stuff in my
  • 00:20:47
personal life in the last couple of
  • 00:20:49
years and it severely affected my mental
  • 00:20:51
health and thankfully I was able to get
  • 00:20:54
    professional excuse me professional help
  • 00:20:58
and it went a long ways and funny enough
  • 00:21:02
    um when I started to
  • 00:21:05
    acknowledge prioritizing my mental
  • 00:21:08
health and physical health I cannot I
  • 00:21:11
cannot uh stress how much of a drastic
  • 00:21:15
change I saw in my performance and pump
  • 00:21:18
just naturally it wasn't even my goal of
  • 00:21:20
like oh let me go do this with my mental
  • 00:21:23
health right let me go take care of my
  • 00:21:25
mental health and then I'll be really
  • 00:21:26
good at this pump it up dance simulation
  • 00:21:28
game right that was that's not what I'm
  • 00:21:30
getting at it by uh it naturally came
  • 00:21:34
with my intention of getting my mental
  • 00:21:36
health better and physical health uh
  • 00:21:38
alongside with that right for my
  • 00:21:40
personal life and my personal all
  • 00:21:42
personal stuff i naturally got better at
  • 00:21:46
the game because I was taking care of
  • 00:21:48
those things i started to prioritize
  • 00:21:50
those things and another thing that I
  • 00:21:51
noticed too funny enough I feel like
  • 00:21:53
some people will raise eyebrows at me
  • 00:21:54
saying this but when I stopped caring as
  • 00:21:57
much um because people I I say that I
  • 00:22:00
make that comment because I know there's
  • 00:22:02
going to be people out there like you
  • 00:22:04
know how can you say you're you're not
  • 00:22:05
you don't care like you're a top ranked
  • 00:22:08
player blah blah blah blah blah and it's
  • 00:22:09
like yeah I I'm trying to figure out how
  • 00:22:12
    to articulate this
  • 00:22:14
it's like I said in the last video I I
  • 00:22:17
care about being good at the game to
  • 00:22:21
some extent it's not however excuse me
  • 00:22:25
it's not however how it was for me
  • 00:22:27
before where that was my only goal
  • 00:22:30
that's all I cared about was I just want
  • 00:22:32
to be good right now um nowadays you
  • 00:22:37
know being 34 plus for crying out loud
  • 00:22:40
um it's it's more about when I go in and
  • 00:22:43
play like the reasoning that I that's
  • 00:22:45
behind me playing Pump It Up nowadays um
  • 00:22:48
    as a Phoenix
  • 00:22:49
    honestly
  • 00:22:51
is it's because I care more about my
  • 00:22:54
physical and mental health and I use the
  • 00:22:56
game as an outlet to take care of those
  • 00:22:58
things um as as a way to take care of
  • 00:23:01
those things and better myself right
  • 00:23:04
with having that hobby so when I'm going
  • 00:23:07
in uh that's the priority so if I'm
  • 00:23:10
having a bad day yeah I'm going to get
  • 00:23:11
upset and I'll be bummed out if I'm just
  • 00:23:13
not playing well and I'm not getting the
  • 00:23:15
scores I want like personal goals that I
  • 00:23:16
have or whatever have you um but I can
  • 00:23:18
always lean back now on hey at least I
  • 00:23:21
burned some calories you know and taking
  • 00:23:22
care of myself and that that also helps
  • 00:23:24
with not just physical health again
  • 00:23:26
mental health um so I've been making
  • 00:23:28
that um my main reason to play it just
  • 00:23:31
    so happens that I'm I I I uh I have the
  • 00:23:37
the the talent still alongside with that
  • 00:23:41
if that makes sense um sure I love to be
  • 00:23:44
where I'm at forever right but no one's
  • 00:23:46
going to be able to do that it's
  • 00:23:47
impossible um so I think a lot of people
  • 00:23:50
misunderstand that and uh that that have
  • 00:23:52
that talk to me on a personal level
  • 00:23:54
obviously people online don't know any
  • 00:23:56
of this until literally right now when
  • 00:23:58
I'm talking about it so I don't blame
  • 00:24:00
    you know strangers online making
  • 00:24:02
assumptions of like oh he really really
  • 00:24:04
wants to be good it's like yes but no it
  • 00:24:07
it really just comes down to the mental
  • 00:24:09
and physical health being the priority
  • 00:24:12
and less about I want to be a top player
  • 00:24:15
i that really is not a priority anymore
  • 00:24:17
uh contrary to popular belief I
  • 00:24:19
understand though again because you just
  • 00:24:21
see the videos of you know me playing
  • 00:24:24
And that's it you don't hear me talk um
  • 00:24:27
but that's going to be a wrap for this
  • 00:24:29
video guys uh how long did we make this
  • 00:24:31
one oh about the same as the last one i
  • 00:24:33
thought it was going way way longer um
  • 00:24:36
if you guys have any questions or want
  • 00:24:37
to make any comments regardless please
  • 00:24:39
put it in the comment section down below
  • 00:24:41
let me know what you think of this video
  • 00:24:43
i'm really glad I made this one because
  • 00:24:45
again it was something I'm I've been
  • 00:24:46
    really really adamant about and
  • 00:24:48
    passionate about um just spreading
  • 00:24:50
awareness um before this video was just
  • 00:24:53
you know mouthto mouth where person to
  • 00:24:55
person word of mouth sorry um but yeah
  • 00:24:58
let me know if you uh have any questions
  • 00:25:00
or if you have any examples of uh things
  • 00:25:03
that you've noticed in your personal
  • 00:25:05
life or your personal uh uh the road
  • 00:25:08
that you've been on with this game and
  • 00:25:10
or if you just know somebody else like
  • 00:25:12
you can share stories keep it anonymous
  • 00:25:14
obviously and uh yeah I hope you guys
  • 00:25:17
