    new city that you'll be in that will be

    your home for the summer as well. So

    attending, the registration dates are

    shown on the screen. So these take place

    on the Sunday before the start of your

    course. Um and so your first taste of

    So, as the majority of our students are

    international, um we would expect most

    of you to be arriving through one of the

    main London airports um that you can see

    the airport to LSE, we would advise the

    best way to do this um would be via

    Um, so public transport is going to be

    the quickest and cheapest way in general

    to get from the airport that you land at

    into central London. Um, as LSE is so

    centrally located, it's really well

    connected um on the London Tube as well

    as the trains and any buses as well. So,

    These will take place from midm morning

    be given a time slot in which to attend

    this registration. These time slots will

    be emailed out to you roughly two or 3

    weeks prior to the start of your course.

    Um so do definitely keep an eye out on

    your emails for that information

    is coming up quite quickly for you lot.

    registration we'll have campus tours

    available. We'll have food outlets that

    are on and around campus to just keep

    you fed and you know your energy up

    us. Um, there'll be music on campus. The

    LSC shop will be open. We've got brand

    new merchandise with a collaboration

    with Nike as well. So, some really great

    stuff for you to have a look at. We'll

    have members of our team also available.

    Have a a tent with um members who are

    going to talk about the social and spark

    events as well. What's really important

    is what you bring with you on that

    registration. You will need to bring

    your physical copy of your passport.

    It's really essential that we have the

    physical passport. If you have a photo

    should also have on hand your LSE ID

    process. Within this you'll be given

    your LSE ID card. This gives you access

    throughout the whole of campus to all of

    the teaching buildings and everywhere

    you'll need to go throughout your course

    with us. So once you've been given that,

    course with us, um, you will have

    teaching through lectures and seminars.

    The lectures are inclusive of the full

    cohort from your course. So everyone on

    your course will be in that one lecture.

    Um and those will take place over 3
  • 00:09:49
    hours. So it's expected that you'll have

    one lecture every day and one seminar.

    So seminars are in smaller groups. So

    it's approximately 20 students and they

    will be 90 minutes long. Once you've

    been allocated a class group, you won't

    be able to change those. So just bear

    that in mind. um that you know it's a

    really unique experience for you to um

    branch out and have that unique social

    um opportunity to meet people from all

    over the world who are you know really

    likeminded like you are trying to um
  • 00:10:22
    improve their CV and just gain some more
  • 00:10:24
    knowledge from their time with us at
  • 00:10:26
    summer school. So if you're not in a in
  • 00:10:28
    a class group with maybe one of your
  • 00:10:30
    friends that you've traveled with um
  • 00:10:31
    take it as an opportunity to really
  • 00:10:33
    build those friendships. Um, and we know
  • 00:10:36
    students love to build their LSSE, their
  • 00:10:38
    um, LinkedIn profiles when they're with
  • 00:10:41
    us. So, this is a great place to start
  • 00:10:42
    doing that. Um, across the three weeks,
  • 00:10:45
    you'll receive 54 hours of teaching
  • 00:10:47
    time. So, overall, that's 36 hours of
  • 00:10:49
    lectures and 18 hours of seminars. Um,
  • 00:10:52
    as and as I'm sure you know, the LSE
  • 00:10:56
    summer school courses are based on LSE
  • 00:10:58
    undergraduate modules. Um, and they're
  • 00:11:00
    taught by the same world-class faculty.
  • 00:11:02
    So you're still getting that really top
  • 00:11:04
    level um LSE teaching that um LSE is
  • 00:11:08
    known for across the
  • 00:11:10
    world. So once you finish your course
  • 00:11:12
    with us um the final exams take place on
  • 00:11:15
    the last day of each session. The exam
  • 00:11:18
    timetable will be circulated during the
  • 00:11:20
    session itself. Um and exams can finish
  • 00:11:23
    as late as 6:00 p.m. on the last Friday.

    So do bear that in mind when you're

    booking flights um back home. We would

    advise you to stay for the Friday

    evening. There's a leaving party which

    is a great um great way to say goodbye

    to all the friends that you've made. CC

    we advise you to stay for the Friday

    compulsory, but if you're taking your

    course with us for credit at your home

    university, firstly, you need to have

    that approved by your university, that

    your home institution is the one that um

    gives the credit to you, not LSE. So,

    you need to make sure that's approved

    before you come to LSC. Um, and also, if

    you're taking the course for credit,

    you'll need to receive a graded
  • 00:12:13
    certificate. To do that, you need to sit

    and submit the mid session and the final

    exams. So, just bear that in mind if you

    are hearing that, you know, the exams

    aren't compulsory. If you're wanting to

    do the course for credit, it is

    compulsory for you to do the

    exams. If you're not taking the course

    for credit and you're just wanting to do

    the um course to get a bit more

    information and broaden your scope of

    knowledge, that's absolutely fine. You

    don't have to take the exams if you

    don't want to. Um, if you've attended at

    least 75% of your seminar classes and

    don't take those exams, your

    documentation will state that you're

    attended. Um, and if you've taking less

    than 75% of the seminar classes, the

    registered. So, just bear in mind that

    environment to be in. It's extremely

    time at LSSE. Um, and broaden the scope

    of students that you're making friends

    with, that you're having conversations

    with. Um, and that's really going to

    have a significant impact on your time

    with us. We recommend the LSC

    accommodation halls um as they are

    centrally located. They're really great

    value especially in central London over

    the summer. It's extremely touristy so

    transition um like Neolithic Revolution,

    hunter gatherers, and then let's really

    really fast-paced in three weeks uh take

    you all the way up to where we are now

    and see kind of where our paths

    diverted. So that's um that's the course

    straight to London from an internship in

    lot of inequality when comparing that

    with kind of the medical care we have in

    the US or the medical care that's

    available in the UK. So, uh, I really

    loved my course and I'll I'll see if

    different but for me I had seminar or

    discussion um some people call it like

    recitation in the morning and then I had

    lecture in the afternoon. Um but the

    seminar really was my favorite component

    of the course. you get in small groups

    of I think my my group was around 10 to
  • 00:21:26
    12 and my overall lecture was like a
  • 00:21:28
    hundred kids so there were around eight
  • 00:21:30
    or nine different um seminar sections

    but you get in these seminars and you
  • 00:21:34
    have a uh usually a PhD student who's
  • 00:21:37
    teaching that portion and I think they
  • 00:21:40
    they are just excellent at really
  • 00:21:42
    getting you to engage with the material.

    They'll push you and challenge you and
  • 00:21:46
    get you to like healthfully debate with
  • 00:21:47
    your classmates. Um, and I think at

    least for me being at a big university

    in the US and being mostly in like

    pretty large classes, which is pretty
  • 00:21:56
    common when you're studying a um a hard
  • 00:21:58
    science or anything really in the
  • 00:22:00
    science, technology, engineering, math
  • 00:22:02
    fields, you're you're not really getting
  • 00:22:04
    to like argue with 10 people and really
  • 00:22:06
    get into it. And I think the um the grad
  • 00:22:10
    students do an amazing job of
  • 00:22:11
    facilitating that. I would say one one
  • 00:22:14
    last point on that is it's really hard
  • 00:22:17
    to contribute well and learn a lot
  • 00:22:19
    especially in your seminars if you're
  • 00:22:21
    underprepared. Um depending on the class
  • 00:22:24
    you take you might have you know problem
  • 00:22:26
    sets or reading but mostly what I needed
  • 00:22:29
    to be doing outside of class besides
  • 00:22:30
    writing my essays and studying for my
  • 00:22:32
    exam. Um but besides that was you're

    given a kind of a set of readings each

    week and for each different seminar. And

    I would just say I know it's easy to

    kind of slack off on those, but you

    really don't gain as much and you don't

    enjoy as much from the seminar

    discussions unless you've read through

    that material at least once um and kind

    of gotten the main ideas so that you can

    thoughtfully contribute and benefit from

    going there um doesn't know each other,

    right? Of course you'll get a couple

    kids who end up being like, "Oh, one of

    my friends from my home university is

    here." and that's great, but I really do

    think there's a huge benefit to the fact

    that most people are coming in and uh

    they don't they don't really know anyone

    and you're probably in a new city and so

    like take advantage of that. Um find
  • 00:23:43
    people to, you know, study or prep for
  • 00:23:45
    exams with or write essays with and find
  • 00:23:47
    people to just explore with. you know, I
  • 00:23:49
    I met girls in my course um who we had
  • 00:23:53
    forgotten that there was the deadline
  • 00:23:54
    for the the Oxford weekend trip and so
  • 00:23:57
    we all just decided to like group
  • 00:23:59
    together and figure out a train and we
  • 00:24:00
    went and we had a great adventure in
  • 00:24:02
    Oxford and some of those girls went uh
  • 00:24:04
    on the boat party with me, which I
  • 00:24:06
    highly recommend if you haven't signed
  • 00:24:08
    up for the boat party. Super fun. Um
  • 00:24:10
    there's like food and dancing and music
  • 00:24:12
    and I met lots of lots of people and the
  • 00:24:14
    views are really unbeatable um on the
  • 00:24:15
    river temps. So, I would say bring bring

    a perspective of this is a great
  • 00:24:20
    opportunity to meet friends. Everyone's
  • 00:24:22
    in the same boat. Don't get

    self-conscious about the fact that

    you're um adapting to a new situation

    because basically everyone else is too.

    And then from a practical tip, um I

    would just really reiterate the point,

    Citymapper is your best friend. Um, I

    grew up in the Washington DC area and I

    didn't now that I when I come back and

    visit I'm like, "Oh, I wish I had known

    the tube is absolutely the best way to
