3 Disturbing TRUE Deep Woods/Wilderness Horror Stories

Peter Longworth - Managing Acid Sulfate Soils
- 00:00:07brace yourself for the literal Terror
- 00:00:09I'm about to share with you I don't even
- 00:00:12know if this is the place for a story
- 00:00:13like this but I can't think of anywhere
- 00:00:15else to talk about it and I just need to
- 00:00:17put it out there I've told everyone
- 00:00:20Under the Sun about this my family my
- 00:00:22neighbors my friends random news outlets
- 00:00:25It's never enough I can't really explain
- 00:00:28it but I feel some weird oblig to inform
- 00:00:30as many people as possible about what's
- 00:00:32been happening to me so here goes it's
- 00:00:35November of 2019 as I'm writing this the
- 00:00:38story goes way back I'm talking like 7
- 00:00:41years plus I can't tell you the exact
- 00:00:44year off the top of my head but let's
- 00:00:46just say 2012 it might have been 2013
- 00:00:49but that's my best guess I was in my
- 00:00:52mid-20s with a stable job and girlfriend
- 00:00:54who's now my fiance I never went to
- 00:00:57college so I had been in the workforce
- 00:00:59for a while and it was unlikely that my
- 00:01:01life would ever experience any drastic
- 00:01:03change because of that there was no
- 00:01:05reason for me to move far away from home
- 00:01:07so I didn't at that age my girlfriend
- 00:01:10and I had just moved into my childhood
- 00:01:12home that my parents so graciously
- 00:01:14passed on to me as my first house it's
- 00:01:16an extremely Old Brick House that my dad
- 00:01:18had actually inherited from his parents
- 00:01:20when he was around 40 so I'd be keeping
- 00:01:22it in the family the house itself has
- 00:01:25seen a few rounds of Renovations but you
- 00:01:27can still tell it's old it's the brick
- 00:01:29that giv gives it away there are very
- 00:01:32few brick houses in our area so it
- 00:01:34sticks out like a sore thumb I kind of
- 00:01:36like that though it feels special
- 00:01:39speaking of our area we live in a very
- 00:01:41woodsy neighborhood so the houses are
- 00:01:43spaced pretty far apart our house is
- 00:01:46also the last lot on our street so
- 00:01:48instead of bordering the woods on just
- 00:01:49one side we border it on two the Woods
- 00:01:53back there is massive and I mean massive
- 00:01:56as a kid my brothers and I would often
- 00:01:58go exploring in there but no amount of
- 00:02:00aimless wandering ever got us even close
- 00:02:03to charting the whole thing I'm sure
- 00:02:05some people would find that intimidating
- 00:02:07but I've always enjoyed the Wilderness
- 00:02:09so it wasn't a big deal to me plus I'm a
- 00:02:11guy who likes keeping myself always have
- 00:02:14so being isolated in my own little
- 00:02:16corner of the Earth was
- 00:02:17appealing anyway my girlfriend and I had
- 00:02:20been living there for a few months when
- 00:02:22all this started happening it was
- 00:02:24sometime in the winter I can't remember
- 00:02:26the exact month all I know is that there
- 00:02:28was snow on the ground
- 00:02:30it was sometime after 8: in the morning
- 00:02:32on a Sunday the one day a week I got to
- 00:02:34sleep in as I was getting in my pickup
- 00:02:37truck to treat myself to a coffee like I
- 00:02:39do every Sunday morning I noticed
- 00:02:41something odd in the driveway right next
- 00:02:44to my car there was what looked like a
- 00:02:46trail of footprints in the snow my first
- 00:02:49thought was that my girlfriend had
- 00:02:51somehow woken up before me without me
- 00:02:52hearing her and she came out to the
- 00:02:54driveway for whatever reason but the
- 00:02:56more I looked around the more I realized
- 00:02:59that was impossible
- 00:03:00the path LED across my front yard and
- 00:03:02through the hole in our sidey yard fence
- 00:03:04meaning the footprints had originated
- 00:03:06from somewhere in the woods on top of
- 00:03:09that the trail didn't lead anywhere near
- 00:03:11our house meaning they couldn't have
- 00:03:13been created by my girlfriend I remember
- 00:03:15standing there confused as hell the
- 00:03:18trail didn't lead around our house or up
- 00:03:20to any of the windows just the driver
- 00:03:22side door of my car that meant someone
- 00:03:25had walked directly from the woods to my
- 00:03:27car only to immediately turn around and
- 00:03:29walk straight back into the woods it was
- 00:03:32bizarre I ended up asking my girlfriend
- 00:03:34about it later that day but she
- 00:03:36obviously wasn't responsible for it I
- 00:03:39wish I could give you more details about
- 00:03:40that first instance but it was so long
- 00:03:42ago that that's about as much as I
- 00:03:44remember it must have been at least two
- 00:03:47Winters after that when the next thing
- 00:03:48happened I specifically remember it
- 00:03:51being 2015 because that was the year my
- 00:03:53Seahawks lost the Super Bowl the Tom
- 00:03:56Brady I woke up that morning and walked
- 00:03:58to my car I think think it was a week
- 00:04:00day but I'm not positive as soon as I
- 00:04:03stepped outside I instantly knew
- 00:04:05something was very very wrong there were
- 00:04:08Footprints everywhere I'm talking in the
- 00:04:11driveway near all the windows around the
- 00:04:13perimeter of the house the yard was
- 00:04:16completely covered in them I'm a pretty
- 00:04:18levelheaded guy so I'm not going to say
- 00:04:20I started panicking but I'd be lying if
- 00:04:22I said I was completely calm in that
- 00:04:24moment I was already late for work so I
- 00:04:28didn't have time to inspect the prince
- 00:04:29very very closely but I didn't want to
- 00:04:31leave my girlfriends in a potentially
- 00:04:33dangerous
- 00:04:34situation I quickly ran around the house
- 00:04:36and yard to make sure no one was lurking
- 00:04:37on the property but that was about all I
- 00:04:40could do in the limited time I had as I
- 00:04:43was pulling out of the driveway I texted
- 00:04:45my girlfriend about the situation so she
- 00:04:47wouldn't freak out I ended up leaving
- 00:04:49work early that day mostly because the
- 00:04:51situation was stuck on My Mind by the
- 00:04:54time I got home my girlfriend had made
- 00:04:56some shocking
- 00:04:58discoveries as soon as as I pulled up
- 00:05:00she beckoned me into the yard and
- 00:05:02pointed at one of the trails saying it
- 00:05:04had been bothering her all day at first
- 00:05:07I was confused but then I realized what
- 00:05:09she was talking about none of the
- 00:05:11footprints had left any shoe marks I
- 00:05:14felt like an idiot for not picking up on
- 00:05:16it sooner whoever had left the
- 00:05:18footprints had been walking around in
- 00:05:19their bare
- 00:05:21feet I was at a loss for words who the
- 00:05:24hell would walk around barefoot in
- 00:05:25freezing cold temperatures my girlfriend
- 00:05:28suggested that maybe was some kind of
- 00:05:30animal but the prince genuinely looked
- 00:05:32like two human feet we went inside and
- 00:05:35called my dad but he said he never
- 00:05:37experienced anything like that in all
- 00:05:39his Years of Living in that house he
- 00:05:41told me to grab my rifle and try
- 00:05:43tracking down whoever had left the
- 00:05:44footprints I really didn't want to but I
- 00:05:47knew this kind of thing was my
- 00:05:49responsibility my girlfriend wanted to
- 00:05:51call the police but I knew that would be
- 00:05:53a waste of time we had no evidence that
- 00:05:56a crime was committed and I didn't think
- 00:05:58trespassing would warrant a search
- 00:06:00I told her I'd call the police if I
- 00:06:02found something in the woods and she
- 00:06:04agreed like I said before that Woods is
- 00:06:07its own world so I told myself I'd turn
- 00:06:09back as soon as the sun started going
- 00:06:11down I slung my rifle over my shoulder
- 00:06:14and headed out I must have been
- 00:06:16following the trail for like 30 minutes
- 00:06:18when I noticed something really strange
- 00:06:21seemingly out of nowhere the trail split
- 00:06:23into two diverging paths I didn't know
- 00:06:26which one to follow hell I didn't even
- 00:06:28know that was possible
- 00:06:30I thought maybe whoever had left the
- 00:06:31trail had doubled back to confuse me but
- 00:06:34then a scarier thought hit me was there
- 00:06:36more than one person out there I was
- 00:06:39under the impression that I had been
- 00:06:40tracking one person this whole time the
- 00:06:43possibility of multiple people had never
- 00:06:45even occurred to me that was enough to
- 00:06:48shake me up though I wasn't fully
- 00:06:50comfortable knowing I could be
- 00:06:51outnumbered out there I stood there a
- 00:06:53little while longer before deciding to
- 00:06:55turn around it was getting dark anyway
- 00:06:59as I was walking back I couldn't help
- 00:07:01but think about those Footprints I felt
- 00:07:03like I would have noticed if two people
- 00:07:05were trying to walk in the same
- 00:07:06Footprints there's no way the person in
- 00:07:09the back could have done it without
- 00:07:10messing up at least once and then I
- 00:07:12thought that maybe someone had walked
- 00:07:14backwards from deeper in the woods to
- 00:07:16make it look like there had been two
- 00:07:17people there the whole time and then
- 00:07:20obviously there was the possibility that
- 00:07:21it was just one person who doubled back
- 00:07:23on himself maybe someone had been
- 00:07:25carrying another person on his back and
- 00:07:27just got tired I really didn't know what
- 00:07:29explanation was the most disturbing we
- 00:07:32did end up calling the police that night
- 00:07:34but as I predicted they told us there
- 00:07:36wasn't much they could do without
- 00:07:38definitive evidence of a crime I told my
- 00:07:41girlfriend I was going into the woods
- 00:07:42again the next morning but it snowed
- 00:07:44pretty heavily that night so there were
- 00:07:46no prints to follow anymore my
- 00:07:48girlfriend was obviously terrified but
- 00:07:50there was literally nothing we could do
- 00:07:53luckily that was the last thing that
- 00:07:54happened that winter in fact nothing
- 00:07:56happened for a few years after that I
- 00:07:59would go as as far as to say we had
- 00:08:00forgotten about the whole thing a lot
- 00:08:03had happened since then my girlfriend
- 00:08:04and I got engaged in that time frame and
- 00:08:07we were focusing on other things I
- 00:08:09wouldn't be writing this if the story
- 00:08:11ended there though what I'm about to
- 00:08:13tell you happened less than a year ago
- 00:08:15it was just after the new year so
- 00:08:17January of this year one random morning
- 00:08:21I woke up to Footprints all over my
- 00:08:23property just like that all the memories
- 00:08:26came flooding back my fiance actually
- 00:08:29broke down in our bedroom asking me if
- 00:08:31we'd ever escape this nightmare I didn't
- 00:08:33know what to tell her it was actually
- 00:08:35worse this time there were Footprints
- 00:08:37leading to my shed and a bunch of tools
- 00:08:39were missing God knows what else those
- 00:08:42people had done I was Furious I called
- 00:08:45up my friend Theo explained the
- 00:08:47situation and asked him if he'd help me
- 00:08:49he's a big Wilderness guy and a much
- 00:08:52more experienced Hunter than I am which
- 00:08:54is part of the reason I asked him for
- 00:08:55help he agreed and drove over to my
- 00:08:58place a few hours later
- 00:09:00my fiance was worried sick but I
- 00:09:02promised her that Theo and I would be
- 00:09:04able to handle ourselves we dressed for
- 00:09:06the cold and geared up knowing we might
- 00:09:08be out there for hours the reason I
- 00:09:11wasn't worried about the darkness this
- 00:09:13time around was because Theo had this
- 00:09:14really expensive thermal scope for his
- 00:09:17AR10 which would allow us to see in low
- 00:09:19visibility I never spent that much money
- 00:09:22on hunting equipment so I'd still be
- 00:09:24blind but it was definitely comforting
- 00:09:26knowing at least one of us would be able
- 00:09:27to see I won't sugarcoat it I was pretty
- 00:09:31scared by the time we had it out at
- 00:09:33first Theo and I talked as we walked but
- 00:09:36after 45 minutes we were mostly silent
- 00:09:39it's like the seriousness of the
- 00:09:41situation hit us both at the same time I
- 00:09:43remember praying to God that I hadn't
- 00:09:45dragged Theo into some horrible
- 00:09:48situation I'm not sure how long we
- 00:09:50walked after that but eventually the
- 00:09:52tracks once again split into two sets of
- 00:09:55footprints we followed the one on the
- 00:09:57left for a few minutes but at one point
- 00:09:59the trail just stopped abruptly we
- 00:10:01retraced our steps back to the split and
- 00:10:04Theo made a comment about whoever left
- 00:10:06the tracks really didn't want to be
- 00:10:07followed I didn't want to think about it
- 00:10:10so we just kept following the footprints
- 00:10:12in
- 00:10:13silence I'm not kidding you there were
- 00:10:15at least three other dead ends that
- 00:10:17forced us to retrace our steps wasting
- 00:10:19valuable daylight I remember thinking
- 00:10:22how remarkable it was that someone could
- 00:10:23walk backwards so perfectly that a trail
- 00:10:25of footprints didn't look like it had
- 00:10:27been stepped on multiple times I'm
- 00:10:29telling you it wasn't normal the one
- 00:10:32upside which Theo pointed out to me was
- 00:10:34the dead ends likely meant we were
- 00:10:36tracking just one
- 00:10:38person eventually it started getting
- 00:10:40dark we were really deep in the woods at
- 00:10:42that point I didn't recognize my
- 00:10:44surroundings at all the trail Footprints
- 00:10:47didn't diverge for a long time after
- 00:10:49that Theo said whoever we were tracking
- 00:10:52had probably given up trying to make
- 00:10:53dead ends another 5 minutes or so pasted
- 00:10:57and the footprints started getting
- 00:10:58noticeably deep
- 00:11:00we were getting closer at one point
- 00:11:03another set of footprints appeared right
- 00:11:04alongside the original Theo cursed and
- 00:11:07whispered that he had been wrong and
- 00:11:09that we were probably tracking two
- 00:11:12people the sun was basically all the way
- 00:11:14down now so Theo was checking his scope
- 00:11:16every so often the snow gave me some
- 00:11:19visibility but I'll be honest I probably
- 00:11:22would have turned around had it not been
- 00:11:24for Theo's scope we were walking in
- 00:11:26complete silence out of no where I felt
- 00:11:30Theo's arm reach against my chest
- 00:11:32motioning me to stop I looked at him and
- 00:11:35he was looking straight ahead through a
- 00:11:37scope I couldn't see what he was looking
- 00:11:39at so I just kept looking at him it
- 00:11:42looked like he was holding his breath I
- 00:11:44had never seen him so still after a good
- 00:11:4720 seconds he slowly made his way over
- 00:11:49to the nearest tree and crouched down I
- 00:11:52followed suit not even questioning why
- 00:11:56he looked through his scope again and I
- 00:11:58could see his hand begin to to tremble
- 00:12:00slightly another 20 seconds of complete
- 00:12:03silence I was dying of suspense so I
- 00:12:06lightly tapped his shoulder he lowered
- 00:12:09his rifle and silently handed it to me I
- 00:12:12looked through the scope and had to
- 00:12:14fight back a scream there were four
- 00:12:16figures huddled in the
- 00:12:18snow at first I thought they were bears
- 00:12:21but I quickly realized they weren't they
- 00:12:24were human beings two of them were large
- 00:12:27and hunched over and the other two were
- 00:12:28small ER the smaller ones were clinging
- 00:12:31to a nearby tree wildly jerking their
- 00:12:34heads around they were eating something
- 00:12:37I couldn't make out faces or details
- 00:12:39thermal scopes don't give you that but I
- 00:12:42could see enough to know they were naked
- 00:12:44it was the most terrifying thing I have
- 00:12:46ever seen with my own two eyes
- 00:12:49eventually the larger ones picked up the
- 00:12:51smaller ones from off the tree and
- 00:12:53placed them on their shoulders they then
- 00:12:55began walking deeper into the
- 00:12:57woods the and I sat under that tree for
- 00:13:00what felt like an hour we didn't dare
- 00:13:03move until we were positive that there
- 00:13:04was no way those things could hear us by
- 00:13:07the time we got back to the house hours
- 00:13:09later I was surprised to find my fiance
- 00:13:11was still awake she told me she couldn't
- 00:13:14sleep knowing I was out there and asked
- 00:13:16what we found I told her in as minimal
- 00:13:19detail as possible but she was still
- 00:13:22horrified we called the police that
- 00:13:24night who told us they'd search the
- 00:13:26woods the first thing the next morning
- 00:13:28Theo agre agreed to stay the night so
- 00:13:30the two of us could assist the police in
- 00:13:31their search the next morning the police
- 00:13:34searched the woods with our help but
- 00:13:36called it off after a few hours due to
- 00:13:38the partly covered up Footprints my
- 00:13:40fiance demanded that they keep searching
- 00:13:42but they said they couldn't sanction a
- 00:13:44huge search over some missing tools I
- 00:13:46don't blame them but it didn't feel like
- 00:13:49closure Theo and I knew what we saw
- 00:13:52Winter's fast approaching and both my
- 00:13:54fiance and I are worried those people
- 00:13:56are going to come back again we're
- 00:13:58seriously considering moving but haven't
- 00:14:00been able to get the ball rolling on
- 00:14:02that I don't really know what to think
- 00:14:04like I said earlier I've told everyone I
- 00:14:06can about what's been happening to us
- 00:14:08it's literally been going on for years
- 00:14:11none of my neighbors have ever
- 00:14:12experienced anything like this which
- 00:14:14doesn't make sense to me I don't know
- 00:14:16why my house is getting targeted or what
- 00:14:18those people even want some of my
- 00:14:21friends think they're harmless but other
- 00:14:23people tell me I'm in grave danger I
- 00:14:25think I'm going to try and seal off my
- 00:14:27yard from the woods but I don't know
- 00:14:29what else to do besides that hopefully
- 00:14:32we can move out
- 00:14:42soon last summer I decided to tackle a
- 00:14:45major section of the Pacific Crest Trail
- 00:14:48I've always loved hiking especially solo
- 00:14:51trips my plan was simple park my car at
- 00:14:54the end of the section hit a ride to the
- 00:14:56trail head and Hike back over the course
- 00:14:58of a little more more than a week and a
- 00:14:59half it sounded straightforward enough
- 00:15:02at the time the first few days went
- 00:15:04smoothly about how I expected the trail
- 00:15:07was everything I'd hoped it would be
- 00:15:09endless stretches of towering trees and
- 00:15:11winding paths cutting through Serene
- 00:15:14Landscapes I'm in pretty good shape so I
- 00:15:16don't have to stop very frequently when
- 00:15:18I'm hiking I'm obviously not going to
- 00:15:20hike in the dark though so every night I
- 00:15:23had to pitch a tent to get some
- 00:15:24shuty I've always preferred to keep a
- 00:15:27low profile especially since solo hikers
- 00:15:29can attract attention because of that
- 00:15:32I'd Venture a little off the trail to
- 00:15:34set up my Camp each night I figured it
- 00:15:36was better that way minimized the chance
- 00:15:38of a stranger stumbling across my
- 00:15:41campsite up until the third night
- 00:15:43everything was perfectly fine but what
- 00:15:46I'm about to tell you is the reason why
- 00:15:48I'm taking an extended break from hiking
- 00:15:50or any kind of wilderness exploration
- 00:15:52for that matter I woke up in the middle
- 00:15:54of the night with this odd sense that
- 00:15:56something was wrong it was the kind of
- 00:15:59gut feeling you can't explain but you
- 00:16:01know better than to ignore I looked
- 00:16:03around my tent everything seemed normal
- 00:16:06inside so I decided to have a look
- 00:16:08around the campsite I drew my rifle
- 00:16:11grabbed a flashlight and unzipped the
- 00:16:13tent there was no one out there no one
- 00:16:15that I could see at least I returned to
- 00:16:18my tent and started checking my pack
- 00:16:21that's when I realized my wallet was
- 00:16:22gone at first I thought i' just
- 00:16:25misplaced it maybe left it outside the
- 00:16:27tent or buried it somewh somewhere in my
- 00:16:29gear but after tearing through
- 00:16:31everything it was clear someone had
- 00:16:33taken it my personal information cash
- 00:16:36credit cards all of it how is that even
- 00:16:38possible though had someone broken into
- 00:16:41my tent just to steal that one thing and
- 00:16:43leave it was unlikely but randomly
- 00:16:46misplacing it was very uncharacteristic
- 00:16:48of me I came to terms with the
- 00:16:51unfortunate conclusion that I had
- 00:16:52probably lost it
- 00:16:54myself things only got worse from there
- 00:16:57though over the course of the next few
- 00:16:59days I started to notice more things
- 00:17:01missing small items seemingly random
- 00:17:04things one of my lighters my Swiss army
- 00:17:07knife a few energy bars I knew I wasn't
- 00:17:10just misplacing everything someone was
- 00:17:12stealing my belongings part of me didn't
- 00:17:15want to believe it but by the fourth day
- 00:17:18it was undeniable I was being
- 00:17:20stalked there wasn't any cell coverage
- 00:17:23on that part of the trail so it wasn't
- 00:17:25like I could alert someone about my
- 00:17:27situation I remember contemplating
- 00:17:29turning back but I'd only be saving
- 00:17:31myself a couple of days at best there
- 00:17:34was no way I'd be able to hike either
- 00:17:36direction without sleeping but I didn't
- 00:17:38feel comfortable pitching a tent in
- 00:17:39those woods with someone literally
- 00:17:41stalking me it was a l lose
- 00:17:44situation I remained calm and told
- 00:17:46myself there was a reason I had brought
- 00:17:47my rifle out there and then it dawned on
- 00:17:50me why hadn't that person stolen my gun
- 00:17:53it's almost as if they were deliberately
- 00:17:55messing with me that night I tied my
- 00:17:58tent shut from the inside hoping that
- 00:18:00would keep them out should they return I
- 00:18:03tried to stay up for as long as possible
- 00:18:05but I eventually fell asleep from Pure
- 00:18:07exhaustion my plan worked though because
- 00:18:10when I woke up the next morning there
- 00:18:11was no sign that anyone had been in my
- 00:18:13tent by then the paranoia had set in
- 00:18:16fully though the Solitude was getting to
- 00:18:19my brain and every second of hiking was
- 00:18:21agonizing I don't have anxiety nor have
- 00:18:24I ever had it but let me tell you I have
- 00:18:26never felt worse in my life than I did
- 00:18:28over the next few days just imagine
- 00:18:30being in my position no options but to
- 00:18:33continue hiking despite knowing
- 00:18:34someone's lurking not far behind the
- 00:18:37anxiety was perpetual and I was
- 00:18:39unraveling I can't explain why or how
- 00:18:43but my mind started playing tricks on me
- 00:18:45a rustling in the bushes turned out to
- 00:18:47be nothing a shadow flickering at the
- 00:18:49edge of my vision vanished the moment I
- 00:18:51turned my head the hallucinations got
- 00:18:54worse I can remember most of them
- 00:18:56specifically but the one that sticks out
- 00:18:59the most is this as I was walking I felt
- 00:19:02myself step into an ankle deep puddle of
- 00:19:04water that almost caused me to trip I
- 00:19:06literally heard the Splash and felt the
- 00:19:08cold water soaking my sock but when I
- 00:19:11looked down the ground was completely
- 00:19:13dry I stood there in complete shock it
- 00:19:16felt so real I had no choice but to
- 00:19:19continue down the
- 00:19:21trail as bad as the days were the nights
- 00:19:24were always worse I tied my tent shut
- 00:19:27and slept next to my rifle but nothing
- 00:19:29made the anxiety go
- 00:19:31away at one point I had to Splash cold
- 00:19:34water on my face to calm myself down the
- 00:19:36hallucinations mostly subsided after
- 00:19:38that I'm not sure what I would have done
- 00:19:40if they had
- 00:19:41continued the next night I woke up to
- 00:19:44the sound of footsteps walking around my
- 00:19:46campsite I quietly grabbed my rifle
- 00:19:49preparing to confront whoever was there
- 00:19:51but my body was frozen in fear
- 00:19:54eventually the footsteps faded into the
- 00:19:56woods but there was no way in hell I was
- 00:19:58going to sleep after that as soon as the
- 00:20:01sun came up I packed up camp in a frenzy
- 00:20:04my hand shaking so badly I could barely
- 00:20:06tie my gear I couldn't stay out there
- 00:20:09another night I was so close probably a
- 00:20:12day and a quarter's hike away from my
- 00:20:14car maybe less if I moved quickly I
- 00:20:17decided that I wouldn't be stopping to
- 00:20:19sleep that night that I'd push through
- 00:20:21the night to get off the god forsaken
- 00:20:23Trail as quickly as possible I hiked for
- 00:20:26hours as quickly as my body would let me
- 00:20:28go
- 00:20:29when the sun started to set I gritted my
- 00:20:32teeth and continued instead of pulling
- 00:20:33off to pitch my tent by the time it was
- 00:20:36pitched blackout I was so close probably
- 00:20:392 hours away at most I kept walking
- 00:20:43flashlight in one hand rifle in the
- 00:20:45other I started second guessing my
- 00:20:48decision I had never hiked in the
- 00:20:50darkness before and I was not prepared
- 00:20:52for how difficult it was that in end of
- 00:20:55itself was scary enough I kept going
- 00:20:58trying to keep my breathing
- 00:21:00steady about an hour passed I was
- 00:21:03getting closer and then I heard it
- 00:21:07somewhere behind me I was sure I heard
- 00:21:10footsteps I spun around and flashed my
- 00:21:12light and to my horror I saw something
- 00:21:15slink behind a tree the adrenaline took
- 00:21:18over and I aimed my rifle at the tree I
- 00:21:21demanded that they come out in a loud
- 00:21:23voice the figure stepped forward it was
- 00:21:26definitely a human but when I tell you
- 00:21:28it was the most barbaric looking thing
- 00:21:30I'd ever seen I'm not
- 00:21:32exaggerating words cannot describe what
- 00:21:34I was looking at he was wearing nothing
- 00:21:36but a pair of my shorts which I hadn't
- 00:21:39even realized were missing his skin was
- 00:21:41scratched up in several different places
- 00:21:44and his face was covered in hair he
- 00:21:47started walking towards me even though I
- 00:21:49had my rifle aimed at him before I could
- 00:21:51think I tapped off a warning round next
- 00:21:54to him he jumped at the sound and
- 00:21:56instantly retreated sprinting back into
- 00:21:58into the woods I was in shock without
- 00:22:01wasting another second I turned around
- 00:22:03and went as fast as I could by the time
- 00:22:06I made it out of the woods I locked my
- 00:22:08car doors and called the police when
- 00:22:11they finally showed up they told me that
- 00:22:13I shouldn't stick around I didn't need
- 00:22:15to be told twice I was out of there that
- 00:22:18night the craziest part of the whole
- 00:22:20thing in my opinion was the
- 00:22:22hallucinations I didn't think such vivid
- 00:22:24hallucinations were even possible it's
- 00:22:27going to be a long time before I go
- 00:22:28hiking again and I can confidently say
- 00:22:30that when I do I won't be alone I would
- 00:22:34advise anyone planning on hiking the
- 00:22:35Pacific Crest Trail to be extremely
- 00:22:37cautious and carry a firearm this
- 00:22:40experience is something I still think
- 00:22:42about
- 00:22:46[Music]
- 00:22:51often I apologize in advance if I mess
- 00:22:54up any details about the story I'm about
- 00:22:56to tell this is something that my best
- 00:22:58friend told me multiple times several
- 00:23:00years ago now it's one of those stories
- 00:23:03so unsettling you can't shake it even
- 00:23:05after hearing it more than once my
- 00:23:07friend's dad was a logger specifically a
- 00:23:10tree saw operator for those who don't
- 00:23:12know a tree saw is a massive machine
- 00:23:15capable of cutting down giant trees and
- 00:23:17slicing them to specific lengths his job
- 00:23:20met long grueling hours often alone in
- 00:23:22the Deep secluded Forest of the Pacific
- 00:23:25Northwest the way his login crew Works
- 00:23:28he was paid based on the number of trees
- 00:23:30he cut down rather than the hours he
- 00:23:31worked so he would often push himself to
- 00:23:33work 16 to 20 hour days to finish jobs
- 00:23:36as quickly as possible after he and his
- 00:23:39cooworker finished their part the rest
- 00:23:40of the crew would come in to clear the
- 00:23:42Fel trees and transport them to the mill
- 00:23:45while he spent about half of his time
- 00:23:47working alone the other half was spent
- 00:23:49with his friend Griffin another treea
- 00:23:51operator they used radios to communicate
- 00:23:54especially when they worked on opposite
- 00:23:55ends of the same job site number of
- 00:23:58years ago my friend's dad and Griffin
- 00:24:00were assigned to a remote job site high
- 00:24:02up on a mountain it took the company
- 00:24:04over 3 weeks just to clear a road wide
- 00:24:07enough for their trucks and equipment to
- 00:24:08make it to the site by the time they
- 00:24:11began work they were positioned in an
- 00:24:13extremely desolate part of the mountain
- 00:24:15they were already 10 days in making good
- 00:24:17progress when they started hearing
- 00:24:19strange chatter over their
- 00:24:22radios at first the voices were muffled
- 00:24:24just faint static Laden murmurs that
- 00:24:27didn't make sense
- 00:24:29they tried switching channels but no
- 00:24:31matter what they did the chatter
- 00:24:32followed them anyone who's used a
- 00:24:35standard radio knows how strange that is
- 00:24:37it should be impossible for anyone to
- 00:24:39follow you when you're switching
- 00:24:41channels as they progressed farther up
- 00:24:43the mountain the voices became more
- 00:24:45distinct they couldn't hear full
- 00:24:47conversations but based on what they
- 00:24:49could hear they both agreed that the
- 00:24:51tone of the conversation fragments felt
- 00:24:53off my friend's dad said it sounded
- 00:24:56almost casual at times but the content
- 00:24:58was
- 00:24:59unintelligible they also started finding
- 00:25:01strange signs that people had been there
- 00:25:03before them random containers footprints
- 00:25:06in the dirt and small makeshift
- 00:25:08campsites like I said before they were
- 00:25:11in a place so remote it was practically
- 00:25:13inaccessible so these discoveries were
- 00:25:15deeply unsettling no one should have
- 00:25:17been up there one day Griffin came
- 00:25:20across a tent hidden just off a trail
- 00:25:22and called my friend's dad over they
- 00:25:24decided to investigate inside they found
- 00:25:27a s single sleeping bag and a duffel bag
- 00:25:30filled with the most disturbing things
- 00:25:32imaginable multiple pairs of children's
- 00:25:34underwear duct tape rope and crude
- 00:25:37sketches of children being molested
- 00:25:39there were even photos of a fresh Apple
- 00:25:41indicating whoever owned it had been
- 00:25:43there recently Griffin wanted to pack up
- 00:25:46and leave immediately my friend's dad
- 00:25:48ever the workaholic insisted they finish
- 00:25:51the job they agreed to limit radio
- 00:25:54communication to emergencies only and
- 00:25:56decided to keep working that night they
- 00:25:59sat in the camper unable to Shake The
- 00:26:01Dread that hung over them the radial
- 00:26:04crackled to life again and this time
- 00:26:06they could make out Snippets of a
- 00:26:07conversation between two men they were
- 00:26:10talking about mundane things collecting
- 00:26:12water and firewood but the realization
- 00:26:15that these men were likely connected to
- 00:26:16the tent freaked my friend's dad out
- 00:26:19Griffin wasn't as phased but my friend's
- 00:26:21dad was losing it the next night my
- 00:26:24friend's dad decided to confront them
- 00:26:26when he heard the men talking about
- 00:26:27Gathering Bush for a fire he grabbed the
- 00:26:30radio and demanded to know who they were
- 00:26:31and what they were doing there the radio
- 00:26:34went silent immediately and the men
- 00:26:36didn't respond that silence was almost
- 00:26:38more unnerving than the chatter Griffin
- 00:26:41was upset that my friend's dad had
- 00:26:42announced their presence and the two of
- 00:26:44them got into a brief argument before
- 00:26:46deciding they'd escalate the situation
- 00:26:48the next day around midnight Griffin
- 00:26:51shook my friend's dad awake Whispering
- 00:26:53that someone was outside the camper the
- 00:26:56first thing he noticed was the soft
- 00:26:57sound of footsteps crunching on the
- 00:26:59gravel outside hard pounding he fumbled
- 00:27:02for his gun only to realize it wasn't
- 00:27:05loaded he had no idea where his
- 00:27:07ammunition was Griffin was unarmed and
- 00:27:10the idea of calling the police was
- 00:27:11laughable given their location they both
- 00:27:14sat Frozen as they heard the camper door
- 00:27:16handle
- 00:27:18jiggle the door creaked open but didn't
- 00:27:21fully swing inward their camper was high
- 00:27:24off the ground and there was no ladder
- 00:27:25or stool to climb up then came
- 00:27:29scratching long deliberate scratches
- 00:27:31along the outside of the door four
- 00:27:34agonizing minutes passed finally my
- 00:27:37friend's dad nodded at Griffin signaling
- 00:27:40he was going to check it out he moved
- 00:27:42quietly toward the door gripping a
- 00:27:43flashlight in his shaking hand just as
- 00:27:46he reached the door it burst open and he
- 00:27:49was struck across the face with a knife
- 00:27:51his pain was blinding he fell out of the
- 00:27:54camper hitting the ground hard before he
- 00:27:56could recover a man was on top of him
- 00:27:58pressing the knife against his neck
- 00:28:01another man appeared kicking him
- 00:28:02repeatedly in the head Griffin without
- 00:28:05hesitation leapt out of the camper and
- 00:28:07tackled the man with a knife the second
- 00:28:09man bolted into the darkness and the one
- 00:28:12Griffin had tackled scrambled to his
- 00:28:13feet and followed they disappeared into
- 00:28:16the forest Griffin helped my Dad's
- 00:28:18friend back into the truck and they
- 00:28:20drove 2 hours to the nearest hospital it
- 00:28:22was bad his face was a bloody mess and
- 00:28:25there was a cut across his eyes so
- 00:28:27severe it permanently damaged his vision
- 00:28:30they reported the attack to the police
- 00:28:32but nothing came of it 2 weeks later as
- 00:28:35the rest of the logging crew finished
- 00:28:37the job one of their co-workers was
- 00:28:39found bound gagged raped and murdered in
- 00:28:42a ditch no arrests were ever made to
