00:00:11
hello everyone happy Tuesday I'm Coy
00:00:13
wire this is CNN 10 your 10 minutes of
00:00:15
news where I simply tell you the what
00:00:16
letting you decide what to think no
00:00:19
opinion no slant just the news let's get
00:00:21
caught up on some of the top news
00:00:23
stories from around the world we start
00:00:25
in Cuba where a power grid collapse
00:00:27
triggered a nationwide blackout cu
00:00:30
officials said failures at a substation
00:00:32
in Havana Friday evening began a chain
00:00:34
reaction that completely shut down power
00:00:37
generation across the island more than
00:00:39
10 million people were without power for
00:00:42
days until power was gradually restored
00:00:45
starting in Havana Cuba's capital Sunday
00:00:47
night the Nationwide power outage is the
00:00:50
fourth major loss of power in only six
00:00:52
months for nearly a week in October last
00:00:55
year most of Cuba suffered near total
00:00:58
blackouts making it the worst energy
00:01:00
outage in decades while Cubans are used
00:01:03
to having their power go out more often
00:01:05
than they'd like this event is the
00:01:07
latest in a series of failures for the
00:01:09
island struggling with aging
00:01:11
infrastructure natural disasters and
00:01:14
economic uncertainty Cuban officials
00:01:16
have previously blamed us economic
00:01:19
sanctions for crippling an already
00:01:21
debilitated energy sector since 1962 the
00:01:25
US has imposed a full trade embargo or
00:01:28
an official ban on trade in response to
00:01:31
actions taken by Cuba's communist
00:01:33
government it remains in place today
00:01:35
blocking important goods and services
00:01:38
from being imported to the island nation
00:01:40
on the other hand critics say the Cuban
00:01:43
government has not done enough to invest
00:01:45
in infrastructure or to keep the power
00:01:47
grid on the island working optimally our
00:01:50
Patrick opman is in Havana with more
00:01:52
including how people there are getting
00:01:54
by without electricity most if not all
00:01:57
of Cuba is in a complete Black out at
00:02:00
the moment and the only reason we're
00:02:02
able to do this uh report is because we
00:02:05
have a generator going that's the racket
00:02:06
you probably hear behind me the vast
00:02:08
majority of Cubans are not so lucky and
00:02:11
so if you drive around Havana at the
00:02:13
moment I've not seen any street lights
00:02:14
that are working it is a little bit
00:02:16
hairy getting around uh the city and
00:02:18
most people are are at home sitting in
00:02:20
the dark uh trying not to open the
00:02:21
fridge because uh they are afraid uh
00:02:24
that they will lose the food that they
00:02:26
have uh that they have to Simply wait
00:02:28
out this latest blackout the lucky few
00:02:31
that do have generators are searching uh
00:02:33
for more gas more diesel to keep them
00:02:36
running and people are concerned because
00:02:38
even though this is the fourth
00:02:40
Nationwide blackout something that's
00:02:42
quite extraordinary in Cuba a place
00:02:44
that's used to power shortages uh the
00:02:47
fourth blackout that's taking place in 6
00:02:49
months uh this is not this latest
00:02:51
blackout is not the result of a
00:02:53
hurricane or any kind of natural
00:02:54
disaster it is simply uh been caused
00:02:57
Cuban officials say by a fluctuation in
00:02:59
in power and the fact that has brought
00:03:01
down the entire Grid 10 million people
00:03:05
essentially in the dark is very
00:03:07
concerning officials say that as the
00:03:09
hours go by they are working on bringing
00:03:11
up what they call sort of micro system
00:03:13
small Pockets uh in cities around this
00:03:16
island and giving those uh small Pockets
00:03:19
uh Power and then bringing back uh
00:03:22
larger power plants that is really uh
00:03:25
yet to LED any uh City though in large
00:03:29
fashion being brought back online Havana
00:03:31
at this hour is completely without power
00:03:34
and even though certain Pockets uh of
00:03:37
cities do have power we're told you know
00:03:41
it's not really significant and as the
00:03:43
hours go by people begin uh to lose
00:03:46
their food their tempers uh get uh
00:03:48
shorter and shorter and certainly the
00:03:51
concern is as we get into the summer
00:03:53
months that this kind of Nationwide
00:03:55
blackout could become more
00:03:57
common pop que is Hot Shot how many
00:04:00
sunrises and sunsets do astronauts
00:04:02
aboard the International Space Station
00:04:04
experience in 24 hours one of each 10 16
00:04:08
or
00:04:11
24 your answer is 16 orbiting at a speed
00:04:15
of 17,500 mph astronauts on the ISS
00:04:19
witness a sunrise or Sunset
00:04:21
approximately every 45 minutes resulting
00:04:24
in 16 sunrises and sun sets in 24 hours
00:04:28
American astronauts Butch Wilmore and
00:04:30
sunny Williams are no strangers to the
00:04:32
16 sunrises and sunsets that can be seen
00:04:35
aboard the International Space Station
00:04:37
each day they've been stuck up there for
00:04:39
more than nine months their trip to
00:04:41
space aboard the first crude test flight
00:04:44
of Boeing Starliner capsule was supposed
00:04:46
to last just 8 days but due to multiple
00:04:49
technical problems with the vehicle they
00:04:52
are still up there now Mr Wilmore and
00:04:55
Miss Williams are one step closer to
00:04:57
making their way home the crew 10 Miss
00:05:00
launched on Friday and docked at the ISS
00:05:02
on Sunday delivering the crew of
00:05:05
astronauts who will take over duties
00:05:07
from Williams in Wilmore our Nick
00:05:09
Valencia shows us how the pair have
00:05:11
spent their Extended Stay in space
00:05:13
before their planned return home this
00:05:18
week what a long strange trip it's been
00:05:21
let's get going now let's put some fire
00:05:25
in this
00:05:26
rocket it's been a 9-month Odyssey That
00:05:29
was supposed to last about a week last
00:05:31
June Sunny Williams in Butch Wilmore
00:05:33
rode on an initial wave of excitement as
00:05:36
Boeing Starliner capsule flew to the ISS
00:05:38
with a crew aboard for the first time
00:05:41
but it was a bumpy ride marked by helium
00:05:44
leaks and propulsion issues and NASA
00:05:46
decided a return trip with astronauts on
00:05:49
board was too risky looking back on the
00:05:51
extended Mission Williams told CNN it's
00:05:54
all part of the job you do what's right
00:05:56
for the team and what was right for the
00:05:58
team is to stay up up here and be
00:06:01
Expedition crew members uh for the
00:06:02
International Space Station so you know
00:06:05
you have to just pivot you have to
00:06:06
change your plan and then go with it and
00:06:09
make the best of it both astronauts said
00:06:11
they're looking forward to seeing their
00:06:12
families again NASA says Williams and
00:06:14
Wilmore completed hundreds of hours of
00:06:17
research and science experiments while
00:06:19
on the ISS including a spacewalk
00:06:21
together GCA completes we are just
00:06:24
fortunate and thankful though that we
00:06:26
have seats and we'll be coming home
00:06:28
riding the plasma splashing down in the
00:06:30
ocean so that's what we're looking
00:06:31
forward to now to news about a bagel
00:06:35
boom in Beijing bagels are pretty common
00:06:38
for many of us especially here in the US
00:06:40
but across the world in China they were
00:06:42
never really a thing but recently
00:06:44
they've become a new musthave food craze
00:06:47
let's go to our Mark Stewart in Beijing
00:06:49
to find out why locals are paying 10 to
00:06:51
20 times more for the dolicious rolls
00:06:53
than they do for the more traditional
00:06:55
snacks and buns some say they're much
00:06:57
more than just bread with a hole they
00:06:59
are a whole
00:07:01
[Music]
00:07:03
vibe this is a new kind of thread from
00:07:05
my
00:07:06
perspective is eating a bagel a cool
00:07:09
thing to do in
00:07:12
China at first I thought it was quite
00:07:14
cool because there weren't any Bagels
00:07:15
before but now I think it's already a
00:07:17
regular option for me however some
00:07:19
people still do not quite get it the
00:07:22
baking bustle has begun at this Bagel
00:07:24
Bakery but this isn't New York City this
00:07:28
is Beijing China you could say the
00:07:31
city's booming with Bagels in cafes on
00:07:34
phone delivery apps and on social
00:07:38
media healthy goodlooking and it's also
00:07:41
a new trend this is a traditional
00:07:44
Chinese bun and like a bagel it's made
00:07:46
of flour and water but bagels cost 10 to
00:07:50
20 times more on average and people are
00:07:53
willing to pay for it one of the newest
00:07:56
stores Bagel boal opened in Beijing just
00:07:59
a few months ago why do you think bagels
00:08:02
are so popular right now in Beijing
00:08:04
young people they are more and more like
00:08:08
the life uh healthy lifestyle and they
00:08:10
also get so many news in the social me
00:08:13
media to uh know the bagel is a healthy
00:08:22
[Applause]
00:08:25
food today's story getting a 10 out of
00:08:28
10 another curious ly shaped Cheeto up
00:08:31
for auction check out this NBA legend
00:08:33
Michael Jordan inspired Cheeto shaped
00:08:36
like the Jumpman logo it's coming in
00:08:38
flaming hot on the heels of Cheeto zard
00:08:41
the Pokemon shaped Cheeto auctioned
00:08:43
earlier this month for nearly 990,000
00:08:45
bucks this new Cheeto seemingly depicted
00:08:48
the six-time NBA champ his Royal aess
00:08:51
and his iconic silhouette on the verge
00:08:53
of dunking golden auctions is bringing
00:08:56
the collectible snack up for bid and it
00:08:58
begs the question will the iconic
00:09:00
Jumpman Cheeto surpass the nearly
00:09:02
$90,000 Cheeto Ard or will Pokemon reign
00:09:06
supreme all right here's a famous
00:09:08
Michael Jordan quote about never giving
00:09:10
up for you to munch on he once said I've
00:09:12
missed more than 9,000 shots in my
00:09:14
career I've lost almost 300 games 26
00:09:17
times I've been trusted to take the
00:09:19
game-winning shot and missed I failed
00:09:21
over and over and over again in my life
00:09:23
and that is why I succeed all right our
