- 00:00:00I need to channel my excitement for the
- 00:00:01waken movie into something so let's make
- 00:00:03this dress toss toss I'm excited but I'm
- 00:00:05also extremely
- 00:00:14scared hey guys I'm mckeny and welcome
- 00:00:16back to my YouTube channel where I take
- 00:00:17you on the behind the scenes journey of
- 00:00:18my latest cosplay project and today's
- 00:00:20video is my biggest most beautiful most
- 00:00:24bubbly cosplay ever and that is Ariana
- 00:00:26Grande's Glinda dress from the new
- 00:00:28Wicked movie I may be a little little
- 00:00:30bit delusionally confident that I can
- 00:00:31make this dress but you know I'm just
- 00:00:35going to focus on being excited about
- 00:00:37the end result and not worry about the
- 00:00:38whole middle part so with all that said
- 00:00:40let's get into it let's talk about
- 00:00:42fabric because I have a lot of it all of
- 00:00:46the fabrics for this cosplay came from
- 00:00:47mood in New York City on a variety of
- 00:00:50different trips that I've been taking
- 00:00:51collecting the perfect Fabrics
- 00:00:53throughout the entire year before we get
- 00:00:55into the supplies we need to take a very
- 00:00:57close look at all these reference
- 00:00:58pictures that I have been staring in at
- 00:01:00for like a year and definitely way too
- 00:01:03much in the last 4 months so here's what
- 00:01:05we're going for based on the reference
- 00:01:07pictures I knew that I was going to need
- 00:01:09a stiff stabilizing fabric to create
- 00:01:11those bubbly Ruffles that her skirt has
- 00:01:13so I tried ordering a couple options
- 00:01:15online because the one I wanted for mood
- 00:01:17was $20 a yard and unfortunately as soon
- 00:01:20as I ordered these samples and decided
- 00:01:22on one they went out of stock so I knew
- 00:01:25I wanted a white or clear organdy Fabric
- 00:01:28and I knew I had to go to the the city
- 00:01:30to get it and now for a montage of a few
- 00:01:32short days in the Emerald City just
- 00:01:34kidding New York City but I went to mood
- 00:01:37several times so here's a compilation of
- 00:01:39all of those trips as I slowly collected
- 00:01:41the right fabrics for this project okay
- 00:01:43so this is the fabric that I came for
- 00:01:45$20 is not terrible considering the cost
- 00:01:47of everything else for shipping online
- 00:01:50and it's sparkly which is very fun and
- 00:01:53after walking around for 2 hours
- 00:01:55debating if I was going to spend this
- 00:01:56much money on fabric I just decided that
- 00:01:59I had to there was no other option so if
- 00:02:01you can order it online I recommend I
- 00:02:04had a hard time finding a fabric that
- 00:02:05was both sheer enough and the exact
- 00:02:07right color and stumbled upon these two
- 00:02:09which were honestly pretty costeffective
- 00:02:12and they looked amazing and created the
- 00:02:14perfect color when combined together
- 00:02:16okay that looks good we're going to get
- 00:02:17this and I'll probably get some more of
- 00:02:18this okay so immediately this one's
- 00:02:20catching my eye for the base but I don't
- 00:02:24know if these are too like
- 00:02:27saturated but they have just absolutely
- 00:02:30everything here but I have decided that
- 00:02:31I'm going to get the 20 yards of the
- 00:02:33organdy for $20 a yard uh just because I
- 00:02:37know the way it's going to drape we did
- 00:02:38some draping tests and I think it looks
- 00:02:40pretty good I'm not getting any beaded
- 00:02:41fabric because oh my God it's like $300
- 00:02:44a yard and many dollars later I headed
- 00:02:46home with my haul the base layer doesn't
- 00:02:50even fit in the frame this is a gigantic
- 00:02:53roll of organdy
- 00:02:55organdi it is a basically plastic kralin
- 00:02:59type Fabric and it's very stiff I do
- 00:03:02wish it was thicker than it is and I do
- 00:03:04wish it cost less than it did which was
- 00:03:06$400 but it needs to be strong to
- 00:03:08support the two Fabrics going on top and
- 00:03:10still be able to have the ruffle effect
- 00:03:13that Ariana's dress has the middle layer
- 00:03:15is this pink organza Fabric and it is
- 00:03:18like a satin shiny finish on top I would
- 00:03:21say it's bubblegum pink so obviously
- 00:03:23this is a little bit too pink and a
- 00:03:25little bit too shiny for the matte
- 00:03:27effect that hers has so I have this
- 00:03:29fabric which I'm calling ham color and
- 00:03:32once we layer these two together we get
- 00:03:34a really nice muted pink color which I
- 00:03:36think is going to be perfect for her
- 00:03:38dress 20 yards of this 20 yards of this
- 00:03:43and 20 yard of this I'm trying to make
- 00:03:47my life a little bit easier so I found
- 00:03:49this beaded fabric which just has very
- 00:03:51light pink and silver beads on it this
- 00:03:53does not have nearly enough beads So the
- 00:03:56plan is to put this as layer four on top
- 00:03:58of the ham fabric
- 00:04:00and then bead directly on that so I have
- 00:04:02a mass this collection of beads there's
- 00:04:04just a lot of options here and this
- 00:04:06appears to be like barely any at all but
- 00:04:08I'm going to need a lot more of these
- 00:04:09iridescent flat sequins because this is
- 00:04:12a different size than this but this
- 00:04:14should be enough hopefully so each layer
- 00:04:16of the skirt is going to be Circle and
- 00:04:18it's going to have a swirl of these
- 00:04:20sequins along it okay and then she
- 00:04:23obviously it's the bubble dress so she
- 00:04:25has bubbles all over the dress and I
- 00:04:27have 1 two three
- 00:04:304 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 I feel another down
- 00:04:36there 12 13 and I have 13 rolls of heat
- 00:04:41transfer vinyl that's the
- 00:04:45ow so until further notice I'm going to
- 00:04:48be lying amongst my supplies because
- 00:04:51collecting cosplay supplies is like a
- 00:04:53hobby in itself and these were really
- 00:04:55expensive so I'm quite nervous to cut
- 00:04:57into them somehow I have to turn all of
- 00:04:59this into a beautiful bubble
- 00:05:02dress wish me luck the hardest part of
- 00:05:05starting a cosplay is actually starting
- 00:05:07it like reverse engineering from the
- 00:05:10reference pictures what sort of pattern
- 00:05:12I'm going to go with and then from there
- 00:05:14is that smooth sailing but it's a lot
- 00:05:16smoother than figuring out okay where
- 00:05:18does the fold and the fabric go and I've
- 00:05:22come up with some shapes that I want to
- 00:05:24use for the different pieces I'm going
- 00:05:27to make the top and bottom separates and
- 00:05:29and then I've figured out finally how
- 00:05:32the ruffle is going to work I'm going to
- 00:05:33make a bunch of
- 00:05:35circles fold them in this specific
- 00:05:38pattern and then just make a bunch of
- 00:05:40these little petals and imagine that but
- 00:05:43giant 10 times around my waist I'm
- 00:05:46feeling strong and confident and and I
- 00:05:49can do this let's just get to work all
- 00:05:52right to get started here since there
- 00:05:53are no existing patterns for this dress
- 00:05:55it's totally a custom piece I'm going to
- 00:05:58rely heavily on Dr ring on my mannequin
- 00:06:00and I don't know how you would do this
- 00:06:02without a mannequin so I highly
- 00:06:04recommend an adjustable mannequin that
- 00:06:06you can fit to your measurements and
- 00:06:08then drape on there to get the start of
- 00:06:10your pattern based on my analysis and
- 00:06:13deconstruction of what I think the dress
- 00:06:15is made of just by tracing pictures on
- 00:06:17my iPad I've come up with five different
- 00:06:19pieces I'm going for and I'm doing them
- 00:06:21one at a time I'm calling these pieces
- 00:06:23different petals as well as the skirt
- 00:06:25pieces petals because it's almost like a
- 00:06:27flower and a rose the way that things
- 00:06:29are in L and folded within each other
- 00:06:31and I think it's really beautiful I
- 00:06:34think we have the top pattern in place
- 00:06:36it's one piece here that goes around to
- 00:06:39the front one piece under here one piece
- 00:06:44here one piece here and an extra piece
- 00:06:48on the back here this just consumed so
- 00:06:51much of my brain energy to figure this
- 00:06:53out but I think it's going to work and
- 00:06:55now that we've got the pattern down we
- 00:06:57need something that's actually going to
- 00:06:58hold this up structurally I've decided I
- 00:07:01need to make an under coret so that is
- 00:07:03something that I have to do first which
- 00:07:05is annoying the coret under sort of felt
- 00:07:08like a side quest because I know I could
- 00:07:10have bought one but I wanted it to be
- 00:07:11perfectly fit to my body and perfectly
- 00:07:13fit to the neckline so basically I just
- 00:07:15went on Etsy and I found a pattern that
- 00:07:17was Loosely having seams in the right
- 00:07:19places and then altered it to fit my
- 00:07:22measurements as well as fitting what I
- 00:07:24needed to put underneath the pattern so
- 00:07:26that none of the underc it showed so I'm
- 00:07:28just whipping that that up putting in
- 00:07:30some boning and then it was actually
- 00:07:32fitting kind of huge as a shirt by
- 00:07:34itself and my best guess is that
- 00:07:35Ariana's dress probably has a zipper in
- 00:07:37the back because it has such like a
- 00:07:39tight closure but that would require me
- 00:07:41knowing exactly how fitted I want the
- 00:07:44bodice to be ahead of time and I just
- 00:07:46prefer corset closure because then I can
- 00:07:48fluctuate in size a little bit and it
- 00:07:50doesn't make the dress completely
- 00:07:52unwearable it's time to cut the fabric
- 00:07:54and I'm extremely concerned but I think
- 00:07:56I just have to do it because I made the
- 00:07:58pattern and that's the next step is to
- 00:08:00cut things we're entering into a
- 00:08:02snipping Montage so let's
- 00:08:05go transition I'm worried okay I am
- 00:08:09worried though
- 00:08:10because my other two Fabrics are 60
- 00:08:14in and this fabric is not 60 in what's
- 00:08:18the width on this because that is not
- 00:08:21going to make a circle about 45 in so I
- 00:08:25need to add another 15 to it and when I
- 00:08:29bought this fabric I knew that it was 15
- 00:08:31in shorter than the other Fabrics in
- 00:08:33width and then that was going to be a
- 00:08:35problem since I'm doing a circle based
- 00:08:37skirt so I just ignore that until I had
- 00:08:39to deal with it which is now so I'm just
- 00:08:41extending it by 15 in so I'm adding like
- 00:08:45a 17in piece and doing a French seam
- 00:08:48with 1in seam allowance so that cuts it
- 00:08:49down by two and this is the state of
- 00:08:52what math and too much sewing does to my
- 00:08:55brain but I was successfully able to
- 00:08:57extend the fabric and create actual
- 00:08:59circles out of it so let's get into
- 00:09:01cutting it we're starting with the
- 00:09:02organy fabric and basically I just do
- 00:09:04this a bunch of times I'm making 10
- 00:09:06circles out of each fabric so I have to
- 00:09:08prep 30 circles and my method was just
- 00:09:11folding it over and doing 30 in
- 00:09:14basically 30in radius and cutting from
- 00:09:16there and I love when math works this is
- 00:09:19like a perfect circle and then I started
- 00:09:20messing around with the fold and I
- 00:09:22thought that this was going to work and
- 00:09:23I thought I had like a stroke of Genius
- 00:09:25but we'll see that that quickly was not
- 00:09:27the case
- 00:09:29my brain is broken again no matter how I
- 00:09:32fold this thing okay so let's say this
- 00:09:33is my top Fabric and you can see that I
- 00:09:36drew some squiggles on here to see when
- 00:09:38I do that onefold
- 00:09:42method we have top fabric top fabric top
- 00:09:46fabric but you can see under here like
- 00:09:50this is the stability part so that's
- 00:09:52going to be white plastic if I fold it
- 00:09:55the other way this is even worse because
- 00:09:57it's top fabric top fabric under
- 00:10:06fabric I don't get it it's not going to
- 00:10:09make sense and also my folding thing
- 00:10:12like
- 00:10:13what what and this is all plastic fabric
- 00:10:17that's all plastic on the what it's also
- 00:10:20not staying with it's it's not staying
- 00:10:24it's sort of done this on its own wait
- 00:10:27maybe that's fine wait it sort of fixed
- 00:10:31itself um going to try to deconstruct
- 00:10:35what's happening here so basically I'm
- 00:10:37back at the original plan that I talked
- 00:10:39about earlier of I just couldn't
- 00:10:41conceptualize how it was happening okay
- 00:10:43we're getting much less coverage with
- 00:10:46this but it's kind of working and it
- 00:10:49really needs like what it really needs
- 00:10:53support well that's a
- 00:10:55problem it's just okay I think that this
- 00:10:58plan might work so I've shortened the
- 00:11:01pink skirt underneath and then I sewed
- 00:11:03this horsehair braid on the end of it to
- 00:11:05give it a little extra like
- 00:11:07oomph I think it's going to work okay so
- 00:11:10now that we finally have one petal
- 00:11:13mocked up for the skirt and I know it's
- 00:11:14going to work I went ahead locked in and
- 00:11:17cut the rest of the 30 Circles of fabric
- 00:11:20and in a perfect world I wouldn't have
- 00:11:22had to hem the edges of these because I
- 00:11:24just I feel like it takes away but I
- 00:11:26don't trust that they are not going to
- 00:11:27fray so I'm doing a rolled Ed hem on my
- 00:11:29serger and it actually was pretty
- 00:11:31lightweight and still looked nice so
- 00:11:33after Heming both pink Fabrics so that's
- 00:11:3520 circles total I added the thin
- 00:11:37transparent horsehair braid to just my
- 00:11:41pink second level fabric okay an update
- 00:11:43on the skirt here is where we're at this
- 00:11:46is the final composition that I'm going
- 00:11:49to go for with all of the trims and
- 00:11:51stuff I've done a rolled hem on my top
- 00:11:53salmon fabric on the pink below I did a
- 00:11:55rolled hem and then did a transparent
- 00:11:58horsehair attached with a zigzag Stitch
- 00:12:00and then on my organdy I did this is
- 00:12:04like a white horse hair I don't know for
- 00:12:06some reason it was so hard for me to get
- 00:12:07more transparent because they didn't
- 00:12:08sell this one on Amazon anymore imagine
- 00:12:11this just waving it around like a flag
- 00:12:14imagine this times 10 and then put a
- 00:12:18hoop skirt underneath it so I think
- 00:12:20that's going to give us the drama and
- 00:12:22the size that we're looking for okay and
- 00:12:25with our base constructed it is time for
- 00:12:27the decor section of this video I think
- 00:12:29the decor took me genuinely an entire
- 00:12:32month to do because I had to do it to 20
- 00:12:35of the 30 circles and my Cricut was
- 00:12:37putting in the work I designed a couple
- 00:12:39different sizes of bubble patterns on my
- 00:12:41iPad transfer them to my Cricut Design
- 00:12:43Center and then just went ahead cutting
- 00:12:46them out of my heat transfer vinyl and
- 00:12:48it took so long to cut them out and even
- 00:12:51longer to weed them I don't know why
- 00:12:53this holographic vinyl the top peels
- 00:12:56away and it just takes forever and you
- 00:13:00have to be so careful but it looks
- 00:13:02amazing so it's worth it and since the
- 00:13:04vinyl cutting out process took a long
- 00:13:06time I started on the first phase of top
- 00:13:10petal design so I'm going to be painting
- 00:13:12on a bunch of silver circles with this
- 00:13:14metallic fabric paint and I set up a
- 00:13:16little station in my kitchen and
- 00:13:18honestly it's still set up as a station
- 00:13:21because it's just been this project has
- 00:13:23taken over my entire life so I basically
- 00:13:25got a bunch of different size jars and
- 00:13:27little like tube things to create my
- 00:13:29little circles out of and it worked
- 00:13:32pretty well some of the circles came out
- 00:13:33a little wider than I wanted them to be
- 00:13:35but hey it's not perfect and the paint
- 00:13:37that I used recommended locking it in
- 00:13:39with some heat or like curing it with
- 00:13:41heat which is perfect because the next
- 00:13:42step was to iron on all of those bubbles
- 00:13:44and this took a long time I think it was
- 00:13:46like 30 minutes in general to paint on
- 00:13:49the little circles but ironing on was
- 00:13:51closer to 45 to an hour and I was like
- 00:13:54really trying to go fast and now we
- 00:13:56enter the final phase of the top C Decor
- 00:14:00I am hand gluing on probably 13,000
- 00:14:03sequins and and rhinestones I can't even
- 00:14:06tell you if that number is even close
- 00:14:07basically I'm using this Gorilla Glue
- 00:14:09that cures after 24 hours but it dries
- 00:14:12to the touch in like a couple seconds so
- 00:14:14it was able to hold the sequence on
- 00:14:16pretty well as I just moved slowly
- 00:14:18around the skirt I think it came out
- 00:14:20gorgeous like this really brought it all
- 00:14:22together for me this just takes so long
- 00:14:26I have my sequins and my rhinestones in
- 00:14:27a little dish and I'm just moving the
- 00:14:29skirt slowly as I finish the section and
- 00:14:32it genuinely is taking like 2 to 2 and
- 00:14:361/2 hours to do these and I have to do
- 00:14:3810 of them so I'm trying my goal is to
- 00:14:42do like one per day for the next 10 days
- 00:14:45because it's just
- 00:14:47surprisingly like why is it so
- 00:14:49physically taxing for me to sit here
- 00:14:51like my traps are like this the whole
- 00:14:54time so this is worse than exercising
- 00:14:58but it's looking beautiful and gorgeous
- 00:14:59so it's worth it but oh my God and
- 00:15:02basically for 10 days straight this is
- 00:15:04what I did at night when I was done
- 00:15:06working and I must have listened to the
- 00:15:08Wicked soundtrack a 100 million times my
- 00:15:11Spotify wrapped is going to be
- 00:15:13completely messed up because I just
- 00:15:14couldn't I couldn't get it out of my
- 00:15:16head I had to be in the zone in the vibe
- 00:15:18and with our top Decor done I decided to
- 00:15:21add a swirl of strong sequins onto the
- 00:15:24level two Fabric and some of them came
- 00:15:27out a little bit not so circular but
- 00:15:29that's fine okay Decor done time for
- 00:15:31assembly we put the layers together and
- 00:15:33I'm doing An Invisible Thread stitch in
- 00:15:36the middle to hold things together and
- 00:15:37then I'm just starting to fold them in
- 00:15:39half and the vision is coming together I
- 00:15:41start draping them on the mannequin and
- 00:15:43let's check in so right now I have eight
- 00:15:45of the 10 petals like pinned on and the
- 00:15:48hoop skirt is like protruding out so I
- 00:15:51think I need to find a Slimmer hoop
- 00:15:53skirt because this is like a little bit
- 00:15:56ridiculous I feel like this is the phase
- 00:15:59of the project where I'm starting to
- 00:16:01look and feel like this SpongeBob but
- 00:16:04look it's not assembled yet it's just
- 00:16:07holding on for dear life on my mannequin
- 00:16:09and it is so heavy I'm going to attach
- 00:16:12all of the petals to this by the points
- 00:16:15I'm just going to pin them on in the
- 00:16:17order in which I'd like them to go
- 00:16:20starting from the middle probably out
- 00:16:22and I was careful to make sure that I
- 00:16:24made a strong waistband so I put like a
- 00:16:26belt one of those really thick belt
- 00:16:29things underneath here and I'm sewing
- 00:16:32them on in two contact points so one at
- 00:16:35the top and one where I'm pointing to
- 00:16:36with my fingers and there was a point
- 00:16:39where I could no longer lift it up to
- 00:16:41fit under my sewing machine so the
- 00:16:43sewing machine had to come on the ground
- 00:16:45to attach these I think this is 20 lb at
- 00:16:48least I'm sewing the petals together and
- 00:16:51she is not
- 00:16:54okay ma'am and the last thing we need
- 00:16:57before the skirt is officially done is a
- 00:16:59gigantic pink circle skirt to act as a
- 00:17:02pett coat to cover up our hoop skirt
- 00:17:04because the way that the petals move
- 00:17:06they're kind of very heavy and they
- 00:17:08shift around so we need coverage
- 00:17:10underneath now that our gorgeous
- 00:17:12gorgeous skirt is done it's time to work
- 00:17:14on this thing again let's let's try it
- 00:17:16on again I'm obsessed with the
- 00:17:18silhouette already it's looking so good
- 00:17:22I think I'm just going to leave this
- 00:17:23long and Mark here where my waist is so
- 00:17:26I know where the fabric should start
- 00:17:28coming out
- 00:17:29and it's back to the floor for some
- 00:17:31cutting I had actually just the right
- 00:17:32amount of fabric left from those 20
- 00:17:34yards that I'm using because I'm not
- 00:17:36using the organdy on the top fabric that
- 00:17:38would just be way too bulky and wouldn't
- 00:17:40curve the way I wanted it to I am
- 00:17:42messing around with the draping on this
- 00:17:44and everything's looking okay I'm going
- 00:17:47to do some sewing to get these pieces to
- 00:17:49stay where I want them to and then
- 00:17:51unfortunately I think I have to put a
- 00:17:53pleate in here it's going to be covered
- 00:17:54up by the beads anyway so I guess that's
- 00:17:56fine it's just getting a little tricky
- 00:17:58with with how I get this
- 00:18:02portion to sit up on top of the skirt
- 00:18:05and not look weird so pretty much at
- 00:18:08this point I'm just ignoring that
- 00:18:09problem that I was worried about and I'm
- 00:18:11just trying to attach the top piece to
- 00:18:14the second piece and put my pleat in
- 00:18:16because it needs to fit the bodice and
- 00:18:18have like a snatched waist effect and as
- 00:18:21I'm doing this I'm getting more and more
- 00:18:22worried and suspicious and guess what I
- 00:18:25didn't have enough of the top fabric
- 00:18:27left to make a new cut we've reached the
- 00:18:29last resort what we've reached the last
- 00:18:32resort we have reached the last resort
- 00:18:35we triy anything else mm- what no this
- 00:18:39is so hard it's so so hard I would love
- 00:18:44to be doing anything except for this
- 00:18:46part but that one piece aside everything
- 00:18:49else is working out so I'm just going
- 00:18:51ahead and I'm attaching a transparent
- 00:18:53horse hair to the top of only those
- 00:18:55folded pieces in the front and um horse
- 00:18:59hair snags on your sewing machine and I
- 00:19:01really really didn't want that to be a
- 00:19:03focal point of the top of the dress So I
- 00:19:05hand gathered the horse hair and then
- 00:19:07attached it to my pieces attached it to
- 00:19:11my corset and then hand sewed everything
- 00:19:13on this took forever and I have multiple
- 00:19:16stab wounds my brain is feeling like
- 00:19:18scrambled eggs but that's fine this is
- 00:19:20the only part that's actually attached
- 00:19:21right now but while I'm here I'm going
- 00:19:24to insert my beaded fabric which is just
- 00:19:27absolutely
- 00:19:30beautiful gorgeous so the reason that
- 00:19:32I'm adding the beading in sections and
- 00:19:34not doing it all at once in the end is
- 00:19:36because there are so many folds at the
- 00:19:38front of the dress that I need to make
- 00:19:39sure the beading goes under it to look
- 00:19:41like the whole thing is beaded
- 00:19:43underneath I'm trying it on for the
- 00:19:44first time after putting these on just
- 00:19:46halfhazard but it is looking so good I
- 00:19:50was just checking the placement of this
- 00:19:53piece and I'm going to put the skirt on
- 00:19:55to see if I need to line this with some
- 00:19:58of that thick organdy fabric because I'm
- 00:20:01suspicious that it's really see-through
- 00:20:02but we'll see what that looks like with
- 00:20:04the skirt on a calm gentle
- 00:20:07rotation uh this is sticking out much
- 00:20:10more than I anticipated it
- 00:20:12would it's so hard I don't like how
- 00:20:15that's hanging down
- 00:20:17so
- 00:20:19no I've been taking a 24-hour brain
- 00:20:22break from this project because um this
- 00:20:25is not laying right and it was starting
- 00:20:27to make me spiral and I don't have any
- 00:20:29more of this fabric left but luckily I
- 00:20:32dug out my receipt from mood and somehow
- 00:20:36they have the fabric online so I have
- 00:20:38four yards of it coming so what I think
- 00:20:40I'm going to do because it took me so
- 00:20:43long to get this piece to sit flush and
- 00:20:46I like the back like this is fine I'm
- 00:20:48just going to bead all on top of it I
- 00:20:51think what I'm going to do is
- 00:20:56just top that off
- 00:20:59this is the hardest thing I've ever made
- 00:21:01and a few business days later in a much
- 00:21:03needed break I was able to redraft the
- 00:21:07pattern and figure out how I wanted to
- 00:21:08do my next cut and I got four yards so
- 00:21:11that in case something went wrong I
- 00:21:13would not be limited by how much fabric
- 00:21:15I had and look at me big brain moment
- 00:21:17putting the skirt underneath so that I
- 00:21:19could make sure the piece I draped fell
- 00:21:21correctly over top of the big skirt and
- 00:21:24with those new pieces cut and hemmed I
- 00:21:26very carefully attached them to the
- 00:21:28bodice and and hand sewed them down to
- 00:21:29make sure that it was going to be okay
- 00:21:32and from there we are back to our
- 00:21:33regularly scheduled programming of
- 00:21:35attaching my beaded fabric to the
- 00:21:36outside of the bodice and I'm just going
- 00:21:38to cover up that little seam that I made
- 00:21:40where I cut off the original bottom and
- 00:21:43added the new bottom with beads so it
- 00:21:45ended up being fine and drum roll please
- 00:21:49it is time for our embellishment beading
- 00:21:51on top and this is the army of different
- 00:21:54color size shape beads that I have
- 00:21:57collected to attach to the top of this
- 00:21:59bodice and with that we lock in for the
- 00:22:03most beating I have ever done for a
- 00:22:06project I cannot imagine what it would
- 00:22:08be like if I didn't start with a base
- 00:22:10beaded fabric it would have taken me
- 00:22:11months and those two little flounces on
- 00:22:14the front of the bodice need the skirt
- 00:22:16treatment as well so I am not doing the
- 00:22:18paint on these because I was running out
- 00:22:20of time but I ironed on my vinyl Bubbles
- 00:22:23and now I'm just gluing down all of
- 00:22:24those sequins and rhinestones I'm sort
- 00:22:27of at the point where I have to clean up
- 00:22:29because there's just not room for me to
- 00:22:32keep working anymore because I've
- 00:22:34expanded to the kitchen I've expanded to
- 00:22:37the kitchen
- 00:22:39table don't even look at it and my craft
- 00:22:43room looks like
- 00:22:46this um and so I need to lock in and
- 00:22:51listen to go up mall for like 30 minutes
- 00:22:54and just clean it before I can come back
- 00:22:56to you with an actual update because is
- 00:22:59I'm going insane also my finger's
- 00:23:01infected because of stab wounds due to
- 00:23:03the beating but we don't we're not going
- 00:23:05to talk about it I've been doing all of
- 00:23:06the beating with one less finger
- 00:23:12[Music]
- 00:23:33okay moving on to the accessories
- 00:23:34portion I have started making the wand
- 00:23:36using my Dremel and these Christmas
- 00:23:38ornaments and swizzle sticks so these
- 00:23:42are those sticks that you stir drinks
- 00:23:44with or make a cake pop on I got to find
- 00:23:47goggles in a face mask because I'm about
- 00:23:49to drill a ton of holes in here okay so
- 00:23:52basically I just spent so much time
- 00:23:55painstakingly drilling a ton of holes
- 00:23:57into these Christmas ornaments and
- 00:23:59Trypophobia warning because this all the
- 00:24:01holes were freaking me out I don't know
- 00:24:03how I managed to do this
- 00:24:06but and that's so basically I just put
- 00:24:08all the swizzle sticks in those holes
- 00:24:10and it was way too many holes and this
- 00:24:11whole project is this whole wand is
- 00:24:14cursed and terrible and I don't even
- 00:24:16want to look at it or talk about it guys
- 00:24:18so let's move on to the crown and we'll
- 00:24:19fix this later okay moving on to the
- 00:24:22crown and our supplies include a bunch
- 00:24:24of O-rings and a big ring that is going
- 00:24:26to fit around my head and and so to
- 00:24:28figure out how exactly I wanted these to
- 00:24:30be laid out I used a pattern that was
- 00:24:32designed by my friend Glen design and it
- 00:24:34was an awesome jumping off point for me
- 00:24:35to figure out how exactly all of these
- 00:24:37circles are supposed to be oriented and
- 00:24:40I am using aluminum wire really thin I
- 00:24:42want to say it's like a 20 gauge and
- 00:24:45just wrapping it around it took me so
- 00:24:49many hours and my fingers were Raw After
- 00:24:52but it it turned out pretty good we bent
- 00:24:56this and why we I mean my boyfriend bent
- 00:24:59this oval to be hopefully the okay yeah
- 00:25:03so um I've made everything slightly left
- 00:25:08so I'm going to try to just Hulk squeeze
- 00:25:13this oh yeah if you're wondering if
- 00:25:16Pilates is making me
- 00:25:18ripped it is and here is our finished
- 00:25:21Crown before I add all of the
- 00:25:23embellishments it's looking don't focus
- 00:25:26on my face
- 00:25:29it's looking like kind of so good it's
- 00:25:32very heavy here's how it sits on my
- 00:25:38head it's a little bit more like coming
- 00:25:41in than I want I wish it would splay out
- 00:25:43a little bit more it was brandly
- 00:25:45important to me for this to be metal and
- 00:25:47I'm going to start embellishing let's
- 00:25:49Dazzle I couldn't figure out how I was
- 00:25:51going to do the little Starbursts along
- 00:25:53the crown but it dawned on me that I
- 00:25:54could get some earrings and deconstruct
- 00:25:56them so I went ahead and started adding
- 00:25:57those to the Crown just with some of the
- 00:25:59leftover wire that I had and they're not
- 00:26:01perfect they're all the same size and
- 00:26:03but it it gets the point across so then
- 00:26:05after that I'm just using my same super
- 00:26:07glue that I used for the sequin on the
- 00:26:09skirt because it was holding really well
- 00:26:11and just went to town bedazzling and be
- 00:26:14sparkling it all right we need an
- 00:26:17accessory status check um we we'll start
- 00:26:21with the wands because they're really
- 00:26:23heavy okay so I started making this wand
- 00:26:26and obviously I was going to cut down
- 00:26:28the little spikes but the holes that you
- 00:26:32can still see in the ball are making me
- 00:26:35really trophobia it's like freaking me
- 00:26:37out so I also don't think I like the
- 00:26:40sparkly on the swizzle sticks so I
- 00:26:44luckily I have two of these acrylic
- 00:26:46sticks and I started making this one so
- 00:26:49I did a spray painted ornament with just
- 00:26:53the pink and I have the glue setting
- 00:26:55right now so that I can do the
- 00:26:58hot glue and I'm just going to cut them
- 00:27:01down to the size I want and glue them
- 00:27:03straight onto this thing so I think I'm
- 00:27:05going to do that this project has been
- 00:27:07going on for forever I started it in
- 00:27:09August and it's now October I'm rapidly
- 00:27:12losing my mind but whatever anyways
- 00:27:15let's talk about the crown this is the
- 00:27:17one that I made and then I bought the
- 00:27:19noble collection one as soon as it came
- 00:27:20out this is obviously youth size but
- 00:27:24it's still pretty similar in size to the
- 00:27:26one I made they both hurt my head in
- 00:27:29different ways but here's a size
- 00:27:32comparison all that said I'm pretty
- 00:27:34happy with how mine came out I like that
- 00:27:37it's big I like that it's metal I like
- 00:27:39that it has rhinestones on it
- 00:27:43and I like that I made it so it's cute
- 00:27:47that wraps up the accessories check-in
- 00:27:49I'm going to finish the wand and then
- 00:27:52and then after we finish the wand we're
- 00:27:54basically ready to go so I am doing a
- 00:27:56method that I saw my friend Polaris
- 00:27:57design
- 00:27:58Lauren do for her wand build so
- 00:28:00basically I'm just using this really
- 00:28:02thick gorilla hot glue and cutting down
- 00:28:05Swizzle six to the right end and this
- 00:28:07time I am doing the ball side out
- 00:28:09because I like that it looks like a
- 00:28:10little bubble at the end so just gluing
- 00:28:12that down and then I'm going back in
- 00:28:14with rhineston and it's actually coming
- 00:28:16out so cute I love this one so much
- 00:28:18better I'm happy that I redid it because
- 00:28:20the other one still freaks me out but
- 00:28:22that's fine I think we might be ready
- 00:28:25for like the reveal after this because
- 00:28:28CU I'm pretty much done with the dress
- 00:28:31okay maybe maybe they reveal is now
- 00:28:34[Music]
- 00:29:19[Applause]
- 00:29:24a
- 00:29:28[Music]
- 00:29:33everything about putting this skirt on
- 00:29:35and displaying it was a battle so let me
- 00:29:38show you a little bit about that process
- 00:29:39and then we'll talk about it like I said
- 00:29:41this is a multiple person
- 00:29:43task I truly don't know that I can do
- 00:29:46this alone okay ma'am I feel you
- 00:29:49starting to fade on me something's wrong
- 00:29:52the Hoops messed up you're showing
- 00:29:54everyone what's going on over here is
- 00:29:56that what we have to do we have have
- 00:29:58boobs
- 00:29:59out how are you what's wrong you hit
- 00:30:03before that's not how it fits me she's
- 00:30:06just actively murdering my mannequin
- 00:30:09right now so her waist is about 6 to 8
- 00:30:12in longer than it would be if it didn't
- 00:30:15have a 30 lb skirt dragging it down okay
- 00:30:19let's actually talk about it now because
- 00:30:21she's hanging on by a thread on this
- 00:30:23mannequin and I have to take the skirt
- 00:30:25off she's just so big I'm not not really
- 00:30:28a good judge of weight but I feel that
- 00:30:30this weighs 20 to 30 lbs and I will let
- 00:30:33you know that when I was wearing it at
- 00:30:34New York ComicCon for like 8 hours or 10
- 00:30:37hours um when I had it on snatched mode
- 00:30:40so that I could walk more easily my
- 00:30:43lower back did go numb it's fine now but
- 00:30:47yeah it's just absolutely so heavy
- 00:30:49Ariana's dress definitely does not weigh
- 00:30:51this much because it would be like an
- 00:30:54actual health hazard this is easily the
- 00:30:56most cumbersome dress I have ever built
- 00:30:59or worn in my entire life but she's
- 00:31:02beautiful and she's gorgeous um she did
- 00:31:05sustain some damage when I wore her
- 00:31:07twice I wore her to ComiCon then I also
- 00:31:09wore her for a photo shoot so she's been
- 00:31:12lived in and it shows overall I can't
- 00:31:15believe that I made this out of just a
- 00:31:17bunch of
- 00:31:19supplies I don't think I mean I knew I
- 00:31:22was going to get here I just didn't know
- 00:31:23how um and you just saw all the how so
- 00:31:27it definitely was a test of willpower to
- 00:31:30get through this project but it was so
- 00:31:32completely worth it I love how it came
- 00:31:34out it just I feel so beautiful and
- 00:31:38confident when I wear it and I I think
- 00:31:40it's like the perfect way for me to
- 00:31:41celebrate my excitement for the wicked
- 00:31:42film if I had unlimited time which I
- 00:31:45don't because I wanted to work on other
- 00:31:46projects this year I would have loved to
- 00:31:49been able to hand be the entire top of
- 00:31:52the dress but that just wasn't in the
- 00:31:54cards for me so finding this beaded
- 00:31:56fabric was a huge win and if I were to
- 00:31:58do anything different I would love to
- 00:32:01figure out how to make the skirt lighter
- 00:32:03because it's a it's physically damaging
- 00:32:05to wear
- 00:32:07and I think that's it I don't really
- 00:32:09have anything else to say because this
- 00:32:11has taken everything out of me but it
- 00:32:13was completely worth it so thank you
- 00:32:15guys so much for watching don't forget
- 00:32:16to like subscribe comment to come back
- 00:32:18for more cosplay content and stay tuned
- 00:32:20because I'm going to be making more of
- 00:32:22Glenda's iconic looks from the wicked
- 00:32:24movie
- 00:32:25um I love her this whole costume is like
- 00:32:30a a physical liability I guess I'm just
- 00:32:33going to stare at this for the rest of
- 00:32:34the year bye
