I need to channel my excitement for the
  • 00:00:01
waken movie into something so let's make
  • 00:00:03
this dress toss toss I'm excited but I'm
  • 00:00:05
    also extremely
  • 00:00:14
scared hey guys I'm mckeny and welcome
  • 00:00:16
back to my YouTube channel where I take
  • 00:00:17
you on the behind the scenes journey of
  • 00:00:18
my latest cosplay project and today's
  • 00:00:20
video is my biggest most beautiful most
  • 00:00:24
bubbly cosplay ever and that is Ariana
  • 00:00:26
Grande's Glinda dress from the new
  • 00:00:28
Wicked movie I may be a little little
  • 00:00:30
bit delusionally confident that I can
  • 00:00:31
make this dress but you know I'm just
  • 00:00:35
going to focus on being excited about
  • 00:00:37
the end result and not worry about the
  • 00:00:38
whole middle part so with all that said
  • 00:00:40
let's get into it let's talk about
  • 00:00:42
fabric because I have a lot of it all of
  • 00:00:46
the fabrics for this cosplay came from
  • 00:00:47
mood in New York City on a variety of
  • 00:00:50
different trips that I've been taking
  • 00:00:51
    collecting the perfect Fabrics
  • 00:00:53
throughout the entire year before we get
  • 00:00:55
into the supplies we need to take a very
  • 00:00:57
close look at all these reference
  • 00:00:58
pictures that I have been staring in at
  • 00:01:00
for like a year and definitely way too
  • 00:01:03
much in the last 4 months so here's what
  • 00:01:05
we're going for based on the reference
  • 00:01:07
pictures I knew that I was going to need
  • 00:01:09
a stiff stabilizing fabric to create
  • 00:01:11
those bubbly Ruffles that her skirt has
  • 00:01:13
so I tried ordering a couple options
  • 00:01:15
online because the one I wanted for mood
  • 00:01:17
was $20 a yard and unfortunately as soon
  • 00:01:20
as I ordered these samples and decided
  • 00:01:22
on one they went out of stock so I knew
  • 00:01:25
I wanted a white or clear organdy Fabric
  • 00:01:28
and I knew I had to go to the the city
  • 00:01:30
to get it and now for a montage of a few
  • 00:01:32
short days in the Emerald City just
  • 00:01:34
kidding New York City but I went to mood
  • 00:01:37
several times so here's a compilation of
  • 00:01:39
all of those trips as I slowly collected
  • 00:01:41
the right fabrics for this project okay
  • 00:01:43
so this is the fabric that I came for
  • 00:01:45
$20 is not terrible considering the cost
  • 00:01:47
of everything else for shipping online
  • 00:01:50
and it's sparkly which is very fun and
  • 00:01:53
after walking around for 2 hours
  • 00:01:55
debating if I was going to spend this
  • 00:01:56
much money on fabric I just decided that
  • 00:01:59
I had to there was no other option so if
  • 00:02:01
you can order it online I recommend I
  • 00:02:04
had a hard time finding a fabric that
  • 00:02:05
was both sheer enough and the exact
  • 00:02:07
right color and stumbled upon these two
  • 00:02:09
    which were honestly pretty costeffective
  • 00:02:12
and they looked amazing and created the
  • 00:02:14
    perfect color when combined together
  • 00:02:16
okay that looks good we're going to get
  • 00:02:17
this and I'll probably get some more of
  • 00:02:18
this okay so immediately this one's
  • 00:02:20
catching my eye for the base but I don't
  • 00:02:24
know if these are too like
  • 00:02:27
saturated but they have just absolutely
  • 00:02:30
everything here but I have decided that
  • 00:02:31
I'm going to get the 20 yards of the
  • 00:02:33
organdy for $20 a yard uh just because I
  • 00:02:37
know the way it's going to drape we did
  • 00:02:38
some draping tests and I think it looks
  • 00:02:40
pretty good I'm not getting any beaded
  • 00:02:41
fabric because oh my God it's like $300
  • 00:02:44
a yard and many dollars later I headed
  • 00:02:46
home with my haul the base layer doesn't
  • 00:02:50
even fit in the frame this is a gigantic
  • 00:02:53
    roll of organdy
  • 00:02:55
organdi it is a basically plastic kralin
  • 00:02:59
type Fabric and it's very stiff I do
  • 00:03:02
wish it was thicker than it is and I do
  • 00:03:04
wish it cost less than it did which was
  • 00:03:06
$400 but it needs to be strong to
  • 00:03:08
support the two Fabrics going on top and
  • 00:03:10
still be able to have the ruffle effect
  • 00:03:13
that Ariana's dress has the middle layer
  • 00:03:15
is this pink organza Fabric and it is
  • 00:03:18
like a satin shiny finish on top I would
  • 00:03:21
say it's bubblegum pink so obviously
  • 00:03:23
this is a little bit too pink and a
  • 00:03:25
little bit too shiny for the matte
  • 00:03:27
effect that hers has so I have this
  • 00:03:29
fabric which I'm calling ham color and
  • 00:03:32
once we layer these two together we get
  • 00:03:34
a really nice muted pink color which I
  • 00:03:36
think is going to be perfect for her
  • 00:03:38
dress 20 yards of this 20 yards of this
  • 00:03:43
and 20 yard of this I'm trying to make
  • 00:03:47
my life a little bit easier so I found
  • 00:03:49
this beaded fabric which just has very
  • 00:03:51
light pink and silver beads on it this
  • 00:03:53
does not have nearly enough beads So the
  • 00:03:56
plan is to put this as layer four on top
  • 00:03:58
    of the ham fabric
  • 00:04:00
and then bead directly on that so I have
  • 00:04:02
a mass this collection of beads there's
  • 00:04:04
just a lot of options here and this
  • 00:04:06
appears to be like barely any at all but
  • 00:04:08
I'm going to need a lot more of these
  • 00:04:09
iridescent flat sequins because this is
  • 00:04:12
a different size than this but this
  • 00:04:14
should be enough hopefully so each layer
  • 00:04:16
of the skirt is going to be Circle and
  • 00:04:18
it's going to have a swirl of these
  • 00:04:20
sequins along it okay and then she
  • 00:04:23
obviously it's the bubble dress so she
  • 00:04:25
has bubbles all over the dress and I
  • 00:04:27
    have 1 two three
  • 00:04:30
    4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 I feel another down
  • 00:04:36
there 12 13 and I have 13 rolls of heat
  • 00:04:41
    transfer vinyl that's the
  • 00:04:45
ow so until further notice I'm going to
  • 00:04:48
be lying amongst my supplies because
  • 00:04:51
collecting cosplay supplies is like a
  • 00:04:53
hobby in itself and these were really
  • 00:04:55
expensive so I'm quite nervous to cut
  • 00:04:57
into them somehow I have to turn all of
  • 00:04:59
    this into a beautiful bubble
  • 00:05:02
dress wish me luck the hardest part of
  • 00:05:05
starting a cosplay is actually starting
  • 00:05:07
it like reverse engineering from the
  • 00:05:10
reference pictures what sort of pattern
  • 00:05:12
I'm going to go with and then from there
  • 00:05:14
is that smooth sailing but it's a lot
  • 00:05:16
smoother than figuring out okay where
  • 00:05:18
does the fold and the fabric go and I've
  • 00:05:22
come up with some shapes that I want to
  • 00:05:24
use for the different pieces I'm going
  • 00:05:27
to make the top and bottom separates and
  • 00:05:29
and then I've figured out finally how
  • 00:05:32
the ruffle is going to work I'm going to
  • 00:05:33
    make a bunch of
  • 00:05:35
circles fold them in this specific
  • 00:05:38
pattern and then just make a bunch of
  • 00:05:40
these little petals and imagine that but
  • 00:05:43
giant 10 times around my waist I'm
  • 00:05:46
feeling strong and confident and and I
  • 00:05:49
can do this let's just get to work all
  • 00:05:52
right to get started here since there
  • 00:05:53
are no existing patterns for this dress
  • 00:05:55
it's totally a custom piece I'm going to
  • 00:05:58
rely heavily on Dr ring on my mannequin
  • 00:06:00
and I don't know how you would do this
  • 00:06:02
without a mannequin so I highly
  • 00:06:04
    recommend an adjustable mannequin that
  • 00:06:06
you can fit to your measurements and
  • 00:06:08
then drape on there to get the start of
  • 00:06:10
your pattern based on my analysis and
  • 00:06:13
deconstruction of what I think the dress
  • 00:06:15
is made of just by tracing pictures on
  • 00:06:17
my iPad I've come up with five different
  • 00:06:19
pieces I'm going for and I'm doing them
  • 00:06:21
one at a time I'm calling these pieces
  • 00:06:23
different petals as well as the skirt
  • 00:06:25
pieces petals because it's almost like a
  • 00:06:27
flower and a rose the way that things
  • 00:06:29
are in L and folded within each other
  • 00:06:31
    and I think it's really beautiful I
  • 00:06:34
think we have the top pattern in place
  • 00:06:36
it's one piece here that goes around to
  • 00:06:39
the front one piece under here one piece
  • 00:06:44
here one piece here and an extra piece
  • 00:06:48
on the back here this just consumed so
  • 00:06:51
much of my brain energy to figure this
  • 00:06:53
out but I think it's going to work and
  • 00:06:55
now that we've got the pattern down we
  • 00:06:57
need something that's actually going to
  • 00:06:58
hold this up structurally I've decided I
  • 00:07:01
need to make an under coret so that is
  • 00:07:03
something that I have to do first which
  • 00:07:05
is annoying the coret under sort of felt
  • 00:07:08
like a side quest because I know I could
  • 00:07:10
have bought one but I wanted it to be
  • 00:07:11
perfectly fit to my body and perfectly
  • 00:07:13
fit to the neckline so basically I just
  • 00:07:15
went on Etsy and I found a pattern that
  • 00:07:17
was Loosely having seams in the right
  • 00:07:19
places and then altered it to fit my
  • 00:07:22
measurements as well as fitting what I
  • 00:07:24
needed to put underneath the pattern so
  • 00:07:26
that none of the underc it showed so I'm
  • 00:07:28
just whipping that that up putting in
  • 00:07:30
some boning and then it was actually
  • 00:07:32
fitting kind of huge as a shirt by
  • 00:07:34
itself and my best guess is that
  • 00:07:35
Ariana's dress probably has a zipper in
  • 00:07:37
the back because it has such like a
  • 00:07:39
tight closure but that would require me
  • 00:07:41
knowing exactly how fitted I want the
  • 00:07:44
bodice to be ahead of time and I just
  • 00:07:46
prefer corset closure because then I can
  • 00:07:48
fluctuate in size a little bit and it
  • 00:07:50
    doesn't make the dress completely
  • 00:07:52
unwearable it's time to cut the fabric
  • 00:07:54
and I'm extremely concerned but I think
  • 00:07:56
I just have to do it because I made the
  • 00:07:58
pattern and that's the next step is to
  • 00:08:00
cut things we're entering into a
  • 00:08:02
    snipping Montage so let's
  • 00:08:05
go transition I'm worried okay I am
  • 00:08:09
    worried though
  • 00:08:10
because my other two Fabrics are 60
  • 00:08:14
in and this fabric is not 60 in what's
  • 00:08:18
the width on this because that is not
  • 00:08:21
going to make a circle about 45 in so I
  • 00:08:25
need to add another 15 to it and when I
  • 00:08:29
bought this fabric I knew that it was 15
  • 00:08:31
in shorter than the other Fabrics in
  • 00:08:33
width and then that was going to be a
  • 00:08:35
problem since I'm doing a circle based
  • 00:08:37
skirt so I just ignore that until I had
  • 00:08:39
to deal with it which is now so I'm just
  • 00:08:41
extending it by 15 in so I'm adding like
  • 00:08:45
a 17in piece and doing a French seam
  • 00:08:48
with 1in seam allowance so that cuts it
  • 00:08:49
down by two and this is the state of
  • 00:08:52
what math and too much sewing does to my
  • 00:08:55
brain but I was successfully able to
  • 00:08:57
extend the fabric and create actual
  • 00:08:59
circles out of it so let's get into
  • 00:09:01
cutting it we're starting with the
  • 00:09:02
organy fabric and basically I just do
  • 00:09:04
this a bunch of times I'm making 10
  • 00:09:06
circles out of each fabric so I have to
  • 00:09:08
prep 30 circles and my method was just
  • 00:09:11
folding it over and doing 30 in
  • 00:09:14
basically 30in radius and cutting from
  • 00:09:16
there and I love when math works this is
  • 00:09:19
like a perfect circle and then I started
  • 00:09:20
messing around with the fold and I
  • 00:09:22
thought that this was going to work and
  • 00:09:23
I thought I had like a stroke of Genius
  • 00:09:25
but we'll see that that quickly was not
  • 00:09:27
    the case
  • 00:09:29
my brain is broken again no matter how I
  • 00:09:32
fold this thing okay so let's say this
  • 00:09:33
is my top Fabric and you can see that I
  • 00:09:36
drew some squiggles on here to see when
  • 00:09:38
    I do that onefold
  • 00:09:42
method we have top fabric top fabric top
  • 00:09:46
fabric but you can see under here like
  • 00:09:50
this is the stability part so that's
  • 00:09:52
going to be white plastic if I fold it
  • 00:09:55
the other way this is even worse because
  • 00:09:57
it's top fabric top fabric under
  • 00:10:06
fabric I don't get it it's not going to
  • 00:10:09
make sense and also my folding thing
  • 00:10:12
    like
  • 00:10:13
what what and this is all plastic fabric
  • 00:10:17
that's all plastic on the what it's also
  • 00:10:20
not staying with it's it's not staying
  • 00:10:24
it's sort of done this on its own wait
  • 00:10:27
maybe that's fine wait it sort of fixed
  • 00:10:31
itself um going to try to deconstruct
  • 00:10:35
what's happening here so basically I'm
  • 00:10:37
back at the original plan that I talked
  • 00:10:39
about earlier of I just couldn't
  • 00:10:41
conceptualize how it was happening okay
  • 00:10:43
we're getting much less coverage with
  • 00:10:46
this but it's kind of working and it
  • 00:10:49
really needs like what it really needs
  • 00:10:53
    support well that's a
  • 00:10:55
problem it's just okay I think that this
  • 00:10:58
plan might work so I've shortened the
  • 00:11:01
pink skirt underneath and then I sewed
  • 00:11:03
this horsehair braid on the end of it to
  • 00:11:05
give it a little extra like
  • 00:11:07
oomph I think it's going to work okay so
  • 00:11:10
now that we finally have one petal
  • 00:11:13
mocked up for the skirt and I know it's
  • 00:11:14
going to work I went ahead locked in and
  • 00:11:17
cut the rest of the 30 Circles of fabric
  • 00:11:20
and in a perfect world I wouldn't have
  • 00:11:22
had to hem the edges of these because I
  • 00:11:24
just I feel like it takes away but I
  • 00:11:26
don't trust that they are not going to
  • 00:11:27
fray so I'm doing a rolled Ed hem on my
  • 00:11:29
serger and it actually was pretty
  • 00:11:31
lightweight and still looked nice so
  • 00:11:33
after Heming both pink Fabrics so that's
  • 00:11:35
20 circles total I added the thin
  • 00:11:37
transparent horsehair braid to just my
  • 00:11:41
pink second level fabric okay an update
  • 00:11:43
on the skirt here is where we're at this
  • 00:11:46
is the final composition that I'm going
  • 00:11:49
to go for with all of the trims and
  • 00:11:51
stuff I've done a rolled hem on my top
  • 00:11:53
salmon fabric on the pink below I did a
  • 00:11:55
rolled hem and then did a transparent
  • 00:11:58
horsehair attached with a zigzag Stitch
  • 00:12:00
and then on my organdy I did this is
  • 00:12:04
like a white horse hair I don't know for
  • 00:12:06
some reason it was so hard for me to get
  • 00:12:07
    more transparent because they didn't
  • 00:12:08
sell this one on Amazon anymore imagine
  • 00:12:11
this just waving it around like a flag
  • 00:12:14
imagine this times 10 and then put a
  • 00:12:18
hoop skirt underneath it so I think
  • 00:12:20
that's going to give us the drama and
  • 00:12:22
the size that we're looking for okay and
  • 00:12:25
with our base constructed it is time for
  • 00:12:27
the decor section of this video I think
  • 00:12:29
the decor took me genuinely an entire
  • 00:12:32
month to do because I had to do it to 20
  • 00:12:35
of the 30 circles and my Cricut was
  • 00:12:37
putting in the work I designed a couple
  • 00:12:39
different sizes of bubble patterns on my
  • 00:12:41
iPad transfer them to my Cricut Design
  • 00:12:43
Center and then just went ahead cutting
  • 00:12:46
them out of my heat transfer vinyl and
  • 00:12:48
it took so long to cut them out and even
  • 00:12:51
longer to weed them I don't know why
  • 00:12:53
this holographic vinyl the top peels
  • 00:12:56
away and it just takes forever and you
  • 00:13:00
have to be so careful but it looks
  • 00:13:02
amazing so it's worth it and since the
  • 00:13:04
vinyl cutting out process took a long
  • 00:13:06
time I started on the first phase of top
  • 00:13:10
petal design so I'm going to be painting
  • 00:13:12
on a bunch of silver circles with this
  • 00:13:14
metallic fabric paint and I set up a
  • 00:13:16
little station in my kitchen and
  • 00:13:18
honestly it's still set up as a station
  • 00:13:21
because it's just been this project has
  • 00:13:23
taken over my entire life so I basically
  • 00:13:25
got a bunch of different size jars and
  • 00:13:27
little like tube things to create my
  • 00:13:29
little circles out of and it worked
  • 00:13:32
pretty well some of the circles came out
  • 00:13:33
a little wider than I wanted them to be
  • 00:13:35
but hey it's not perfect and the paint
  • 00:13:37
that I used recommended locking it in
  • 00:13:39
with some heat or like curing it with
  • 00:13:41
heat which is perfect because the next
  • 00:13:42
step was to iron on all of those bubbles
  • 00:13:44
and this took a long time I think it was
  • 00:13:46
like 30 minutes in general to paint on
  • 00:13:49
the little circles but ironing on was
  • 00:13:51
closer to 45 to an hour and I was like
  • 00:13:54
really trying to go fast and now we
  • 00:13:56
enter the final phase of the top C Decor
  • 00:14:00
I am hand gluing on probably 13,000
  • 00:14:03
sequins and and rhinestones I can't even
  • 00:14:06
tell you if that number is even close
  • 00:14:07
basically I'm using this Gorilla Glue
  • 00:14:09
that cures after 24 hours but it dries
  • 00:14:12
to the touch in like a couple seconds so
  • 00:14:14
it was able to hold the sequence on
  • 00:14:16
pretty well as I just moved slowly
  • 00:14:18
around the skirt I think it came out
  • 00:14:20
gorgeous like this really brought it all
  • 00:14:22
together for me this just takes so long
  • 00:14:26
I have my sequins and my rhinestones in
  • 00:14:27
a little dish and I'm just moving the
  • 00:14:29
skirt slowly as I finish the section and
  • 00:14:32
it genuinely is taking like 2 to 2 and
  • 00:14:36
1/2 hours to do these and I have to do
  • 00:14:38
10 of them so I'm trying my goal is to
  • 00:14:42
do like one per day for the next 10 days
  • 00:14:45
    because it's just
  • 00:14:47
surprisingly like why is it so
  • 00:14:49
physically taxing for me to sit here
  • 00:14:51
like my traps are like this the whole
  • 00:14:54
time so this is worse than exercising
  • 00:14:58
but it's looking beautiful and gorgeous
  • 00:14:59
so it's worth it but oh my God and
  • 00:15:02
basically for 10 days straight this is
  • 00:15:04
what I did at night when I was done
  • 00:15:06
working and I must have listened to the
  • 00:15:08
Wicked soundtrack a 100 million times my
  • 00:15:11
Spotify wrapped is going to be
  • 00:15:13
completely messed up because I just
  • 00:15:14
couldn't I couldn't get it out of my
  • 00:15:16
head I had to be in the zone in the vibe
  • 00:15:18
and with our top Decor done I decided to
  • 00:15:21
add a swirl of strong sequins onto the
  • 00:15:24
level two Fabric and some of them came
  • 00:15:27
out a little bit not so circular but
  • 00:15:29
that's fine okay Decor done time for
  • 00:15:31
assembly we put the layers together and
  • 00:15:33
I'm doing An Invisible Thread stitch in
  • 00:15:36
the middle to hold things together and
  • 00:15:37
then I'm just starting to fold them in
  • 00:15:39
half and the vision is coming together I
  • 00:15:41
start draping them on the mannequin and
  • 00:15:43
let's check in so right now I have eight
  • 00:15:45
of the 10 petals like pinned on and the
  • 00:15:48
hoop skirt is like protruding out so I
  • 00:15:51
think I need to find a Slimmer hoop
  • 00:15:53
skirt because this is like a little bit
  • 00:15:56
ridiculous I feel like this is the phase
  • 00:15:59
of the project where I'm starting to
  • 00:16:01
look and feel like this SpongeBob but
  • 00:16:04
look it's not assembled yet it's just
  • 00:16:07
holding on for dear life on my mannequin
  • 00:16:09
and it is so heavy I'm going to attach
  • 00:16:12
all of the petals to this by the points
  • 00:16:15
I'm just going to pin them on in the
  • 00:16:17
order in which I'd like them to go
  • 00:16:20
starting from the middle probably out
  • 00:16:22
and I was careful to make sure that I
  • 00:16:24
made a strong waistband so I put like a
  • 00:16:26
belt one of those really thick belt
  • 00:16:29
things underneath here and I'm sewing
  • 00:16:32
them on in two contact points so one at
  • 00:16:35
the top and one where I'm pointing to
  • 00:16:36
with my fingers and there was a point
  • 00:16:39
where I could no longer lift it up to
  • 00:16:41
fit under my sewing machine so the
  • 00:16:43
sewing machine had to come on the ground
  • 00:16:45
to attach these I think this is 20 lb at
  • 00:16:48
least I'm sewing the petals together and
  • 00:16:51
    she is not
  • 00:16:54
okay ma'am and the last thing we need
  • 00:16:57
before the skirt is officially done is a
  • 00:16:59
gigantic pink circle skirt to act as a
  • 00:17:02
pett coat to cover up our hoop skirt
  • 00:17:04
because the way that the petals move
  • 00:17:06
they're kind of very heavy and they
  • 00:17:08
shift around so we need coverage
  • 00:17:10
    underneath now that our gorgeous
  • 00:17:12
gorgeous skirt is done it's time to work
  • 00:17:14
on this thing again let's let's try it
  • 00:17:16
on again I'm obsessed with the
  • 00:17:18
silhouette already it's looking so good
  • 00:17:22
I think I'm just going to leave this
  • 00:17:23
long and Mark here where my waist is so
  • 00:17:26
I know where the fabric should start
  • 00:17:28
    coming out
  • 00:17:29
and it's back to the floor for some
  • 00:17:31
cutting I had actually just the right
  • 00:17:32
amount of fabric left from those 20
  • 00:17:34
yards that I'm using because I'm not
  • 00:17:36
using the organdy on the top fabric that
  • 00:17:38
would just be way too bulky and wouldn't
  • 00:17:40
curve the way I wanted it to I am
  • 00:17:42
messing around with the draping on this
  • 00:17:44
and everything's looking okay I'm going
  • 00:17:47
to do some sewing to get these pieces to
  • 00:17:49
stay where I want them to and then
  • 00:17:51
unfortunately I think I have to put a
  • 00:17:53
pleate in here it's going to be covered
  • 00:17:54
up by the beads anyway so I guess that's
  • 00:17:56
fine it's just getting a little tricky
  • 00:17:58
with with how I get this
  • 00:18:02
portion to sit up on top of the skirt
  • 00:18:05
and not look weird so pretty much at
  • 00:18:08
this point I'm just ignoring that
  • 00:18:09
problem that I was worried about and I'm
  • 00:18:11
just trying to attach the top piece to
  • 00:18:14
the second piece and put my pleat in
  • 00:18:16
because it needs to fit the bodice and
  • 00:18:18
have like a snatched waist effect and as
  • 00:18:21
I'm doing this I'm getting more and more
  • 00:18:22
worried and suspicious and guess what I
  • 00:18:25
didn't have enough of the top fabric
  • 00:18:27
left to make a new cut we've reached the
  • 00:18:29
last resort what we've reached the last
  • 00:18:32
resort we have reached the last resort
  • 00:18:35
we triy anything else mm- what no this
  • 00:18:39
is so hard it's so so hard I would love
  • 00:18:44
to be doing anything except for this
  • 00:18:46
part but that one piece aside everything
  • 00:18:49
else is working out so I'm just going
  • 00:18:51
ahead and I'm attaching a transparent
  • 00:18:53
horse hair to the top of only those
  • 00:18:55
folded pieces in the front and um horse
  • 00:18:59
hair snags on your sewing machine and I
  • 00:19:01
really really didn't want that to be a
  • 00:19:03
focal point of the top of the dress So I
  • 00:19:05
hand gathered the horse hair and then
  • 00:19:07
attached it to my pieces attached it to
  • 00:19:11
my corset and then hand sewed everything
  • 00:19:13
on this took forever and I have multiple
  • 00:19:16
stab wounds my brain is feeling like
  • 00:19:18
scrambled eggs but that's fine this is
  • 00:19:20
the only part that's actually attached
  • 00:19:21
right now but while I'm here I'm going
  • 00:19:24
to insert my beaded fabric which is just
  • 00:19:27
    absolutely
  • 00:19:30
beautiful gorgeous so the reason that
  • 00:19:32
I'm adding the beading in sections and
  • 00:19:34
not doing it all at once in the end is
  • 00:19:36
because there are so many folds at the
  • 00:19:38
front of the dress that I need to make
  • 00:19:39
sure the beading goes under it to look
  • 00:19:41
like the whole thing is beaded
  • 00:19:43
underneath I'm trying it on for the
  • 00:19:44
first time after putting these on just
  • 00:19:46
halfhazard but it is looking so good I
  • 00:19:50
was just checking the placement of this
  • 00:19:53
piece and I'm going to put the skirt on
  • 00:19:55
to see if I need to line this with some
  • 00:19:58
of that thick organdy fabric because I'm
  • 00:20:01
    suspicious that it's really see-through
  • 00:20:02
but we'll see what that looks like with
  • 00:20:04
the skirt on a calm gentle
  • 00:20:07
rotation uh this is sticking out much
  • 00:20:10
    more than I anticipated it
  • 00:20:12
would it's so hard I don't like how
  • 00:20:15
    that's hanging down
  • 00:20:17
    so
  • 00:20:19
    no I've been taking a 24-hour brain
  • 00:20:22
break from this project because um this
  • 00:20:25
is not laying right and it was starting
  • 00:20:27
to make me spiral and I don't have any
  • 00:20:29
more of this fabric left but luckily I
  • 00:20:32
dug out my receipt from mood and somehow
  • 00:20:36
they have the fabric online so I have
  • 00:20:38
four yards of it coming so what I think
  • 00:20:40
I'm going to do because it took me so
  • 00:20:43
long to get this piece to sit flush and
  • 00:20:46
I like the back like this is fine I'm
  • 00:20:48
just going to bead all on top of it I
  • 00:20:51
think what I'm going to do is
  • 00:20:56
    just top that off
  • 00:20:59
this is the hardest thing I've ever made
  • 00:21:01
and a few business days later in a much
  • 00:21:03
needed break I was able to redraft the
  • 00:21:07
pattern and figure out how I wanted to
  • 00:21:08
do my next cut and I got four yards so
  • 00:21:11
that in case something went wrong I
  • 00:21:13
would not be limited by how much fabric
  • 00:21:15
I had and look at me big brain moment
  • 00:21:17
putting the skirt underneath so that I
  • 00:21:19
could make sure the piece I draped fell
  • 00:21:21
correctly over top of the big skirt and
  • 00:21:24
with those new pieces cut and hemmed I
  • 00:21:26
very carefully attached them to the
  • 00:21:28
bodice and and hand sewed them down to
  • 00:21:29
make sure that it was going to be okay
  • 00:21:32
and from there we are back to our
  • 00:21:33
    regularly scheduled programming of
  • 00:21:35
attaching my beaded fabric to the
  • 00:21:36
outside of the bodice and I'm just going
  • 00:21:38
to cover up that little seam that I made
  • 00:21:40
where I cut off the original bottom and
  • 00:21:43
added the new bottom with beads so it
  • 00:21:45
ended up being fine and drum roll please
  • 00:21:49
it is time for our embellishment beading
  • 00:21:51
on top and this is the army of different
  • 00:21:54
color size shape beads that I have
  • 00:21:57
collected to attach to the top of this
  • 00:21:59
bodice and with that we lock in for the
  • 00:22:03
most beating I have ever done for a
  • 00:22:06
project I cannot imagine what it would
  • 00:22:08
be like if I didn't start with a base
  • 00:22:10
beaded fabric it would have taken me
  • 00:22:11
months and those two little flounces on
  • 00:22:14
the front of the bodice need the skirt
  • 00:22:16
treatment as well so I am not doing the
  • 00:22:18
paint on these because I was running out
  • 00:22:20
of time but I ironed on my vinyl Bubbles
  • 00:22:23
and now I'm just gluing down all of
  • 00:22:24
those sequins and rhinestones I'm sort
  • 00:22:27
of at the point where I have to clean up
  • 00:22:29
because there's just not room for me to
  • 00:22:32
    keep working anymore because I've
  • 00:22:34
expanded to the kitchen I've expanded to
  • 00:22:37
    the kitchen
  • 00:22:39
table don't even look at it and my craft
  • 00:22:43
    room looks like
  • 00:22:46
this um and so I need to lock in and
  • 00:22:51
listen to go up mall for like 30 minutes
  • 00:22:54
and just clean it before I can come back
  • 00:22:56
to you with an actual update because is
  • 00:22:59
I'm going insane also my finger's
  • 00:23:01
infected because of stab wounds due to
  • 00:23:03
the beating but we don't we're not going
  • 00:23:05
to talk about it I've been doing all of
  • 00:23:06
the beating with one less finger
  • 00:23:12
    [Music]
  • 00:23:33
okay moving on to the accessories
  • 00:23:34
portion I have started making the wand
  • 00:23:36
using my Dremel and these Christmas
  • 00:23:38
ornaments and swizzle sticks so these
  • 00:23:42
are those sticks that you stir drinks
  • 00:23:44
with or make a cake pop on I got to find
  • 00:23:47
goggles in a face mask because I'm about
  • 00:23:49
to drill a ton of holes in here okay so
  • 00:23:52
basically I just spent so much time
  • 00:23:55
painstakingly drilling a ton of holes
  • 00:23:57
    into these Christmas ornaments and
  • 00:23:59
Trypophobia warning because this all the
  • 00:24:01
holes were freaking me out I don't know
  • 00:24:03
how I managed to do this
  • 00:24:06
but and that's so basically I just put
  • 00:24:08
all the swizzle sticks in those holes
  • 00:24:10
and it was way too many holes and this
  • 00:24:11
whole project is this whole wand is
  • 00:24:14
cursed and terrible and I don't even
  • 00:24:16
want to look at it or talk about it guys
  • 00:24:18
so let's move on to the crown and we'll
  • 00:24:19
fix this later okay moving on to the
  • 00:24:22
crown and our supplies include a bunch
  • 00:24:24
of O-rings and a big ring that is going
  • 00:24:26
to fit around my head and and so to
  • 00:24:28
figure out how exactly I wanted these to
  • 00:24:30
be laid out I used a pattern that was
  • 00:24:32
designed by my friend Glen design and it
  • 00:24:34
was an awesome jumping off point for me
  • 00:24:35
to figure out how exactly all of these
  • 00:24:37
circles are supposed to be oriented and
  • 00:24:40
I am using aluminum wire really thin I
  • 00:24:42
want to say it's like a 20 gauge and
  • 00:24:45
just wrapping it around it took me so
  • 00:24:49
many hours and my fingers were Raw After
  • 00:24:52
but it it turned out pretty good we bent
  • 00:24:56
this and why we I mean my boyfriend bent
  • 00:24:59
this oval to be hopefully the okay yeah
  • 00:25:03
so um I've made everything slightly left
  • 00:25:08
so I'm going to try to just Hulk squeeze
  • 00:25:13
this oh yeah if you're wondering if
  • 00:25:16
    Pilates is making me
  • 00:25:18
ripped it is and here is our finished
  • 00:25:21
Crown before I add all of the
  • 00:25:23
    embellishments it's looking don't focus
  • 00:25:26
    on my face
  • 00:25:29
it's looking like kind of so good it's
  • 00:25:32
very heavy here's how it sits on my
  • 00:25:38
head it's a little bit more like coming
  • 00:25:41
in than I want I wish it would splay out
  • 00:25:43
a little bit more it was brandly
  • 00:25:45
important to me for this to be metal and
  • 00:25:47
I'm going to start embellishing let's
  • 00:25:49
Dazzle I couldn't figure out how I was
  • 00:25:51
going to do the little Starbursts along
  • 00:25:53
the crown but it dawned on me that I
  • 00:25:54
could get some earrings and deconstruct
  • 00:25:56
them so I went ahead and started adding
  • 00:25:57
those to the Crown just with some of the
  • 00:25:59
leftover wire that I had and they're not
  • 00:26:01
perfect they're all the same size and
  • 00:26:03
but it it gets the point across so then
  • 00:26:05
after that I'm just using my same super
  • 00:26:07
glue that I used for the sequin on the
  • 00:26:09
skirt because it was holding really well
  • 00:26:11
and just went to town bedazzling and be
  • 00:26:14
sparkling it all right we need an
  • 00:26:17
accessory status check um we we'll start
  • 00:26:21
with the wands because they're really
  • 00:26:23
heavy okay so I started making this wand
  • 00:26:26
and obviously I was going to cut down
  • 00:26:28
the little spikes but the holes that you
  • 00:26:32
can still see in the ball are making me
  • 00:26:35
really trophobia it's like freaking me
  • 00:26:37
out so I also don't think I like the
  • 00:26:40
sparkly on the swizzle sticks so I
  • 00:26:44
luckily I have two of these acrylic
  • 00:26:46
sticks and I started making this one so
  • 00:26:49
I did a spray painted ornament with just
  • 00:26:53
the pink and I have the glue setting
  • 00:26:55
right now so that I can do the
  • 00:26:58
hot glue and I'm just going to cut them
  • 00:27:01
down to the size I want and glue them
  • 00:27:03
straight onto this thing so I think I'm
  • 00:27:05
going to do that this project has been
  • 00:27:07
going on for forever I started it in
  • 00:27:09
August and it's now October I'm rapidly
  • 00:27:12
losing my mind but whatever anyways
  • 00:27:15
let's talk about the crown this is the
  • 00:27:17
one that I made and then I bought the
  • 00:27:19
noble collection one as soon as it came
  • 00:27:20
out this is obviously youth size but
  • 00:27:24
it's still pretty similar in size to the
  • 00:27:26
one I made they both hurt my head in
  • 00:27:29
different ways but here's a size
  • 00:27:32
comparison all that said I'm pretty
  • 00:27:34
happy with how mine came out I like that
  • 00:27:37
    it's big I like that it's metal I like
  • 00:27:39
that it has rhinestones on it
  • 00:27:43
and I like that I made it so it's cute
  • 00:27:47
that wraps up the accessories check-in
  • 00:27:49
I'm going to finish the wand and then
  • 00:27:52
and then after we finish the wand we're
  • 00:27:54
basically ready to go so I am doing a
  • 00:27:56
method that I saw my friend Polaris
  • 00:27:57
    design
  • 00:27:58
Lauren do for her wand build so
  • 00:28:00
basically I'm just using this really
  • 00:28:02
thick gorilla hot glue and cutting down
  • 00:28:05
Swizzle six to the right end and this
  • 00:28:07
time I am doing the ball side out
  • 00:28:09
because I like that it looks like a
  • 00:28:10
little bubble at the end so just gluing
  • 00:28:12
that down and then I'm going back in
  • 00:28:14
with rhineston and it's actually coming
  • 00:28:16
out so cute I love this one so much
  • 00:28:18
better I'm happy that I redid it because
  • 00:28:20
the other one still freaks me out but
  • 00:28:22
that's fine I think we might be ready
  • 00:28:25
for like the reveal after this because
  • 00:28:28
CU I'm pretty much done with the dress
  • 00:28:31
okay maybe maybe they reveal is now
  • 00:28:34
    [Music]
  • 00:29:19
    [Applause]
  • 00:29:24
    a
  • 00:29:28
    [Music]
  • 00:29:33
everything about putting this skirt on
  • 00:29:35
and displaying it was a battle so let me
  • 00:29:38
show you a little bit about that process
  • 00:29:39
and then we'll talk about it like I said
  • 00:29:41
    this is a multiple person
  • 00:29:43
task I truly don't know that I can do
  • 00:29:46
this alone okay ma'am I feel you
  • 00:29:49
starting to fade on me something's wrong
  • 00:29:52
the Hoops messed up you're showing
  • 00:29:54
everyone what's going on over here is
  • 00:29:56
that what we have to do we have have
  • 00:29:58
    boobs
  • 00:29:59
out how are you what's wrong you hit
  • 00:30:03
before that's not how it fits me she's
  • 00:30:06
    just actively murdering my mannequin
  • 00:30:09
right now so her waist is about 6 to 8
  • 00:30:12
in longer than it would be if it didn't
  • 00:30:15
have a 30 lb skirt dragging it down okay
  • 00:30:19
let's actually talk about it now because
  • 00:30:21
she's hanging on by a thread on this
  • 00:30:23
mannequin and I have to take the skirt
  • 00:30:25
off she's just so big I'm not not really
  • 00:30:28
a good judge of weight but I feel that
  • 00:30:30
this weighs 20 to 30 lbs and I will let
  • 00:30:33
you know that when I was wearing it at
  • 00:30:34
New York ComicCon for like 8 hours or 10
  • 00:30:37
hours um when I had it on snatched mode
  • 00:30:40
so that I could walk more easily my
  • 00:30:43
lower back did go numb it's fine now but
  • 00:30:47
yeah it's just absolutely so heavy
  • 00:30:49
Ariana's dress definitely does not weigh
  • 00:30:51
this much because it would be like an
  • 00:30:54
actual health hazard this is easily the
  • 00:30:56
most cumbersome dress I have ever built
  • 00:30:59
or worn in my entire life but she's
  • 00:31:02
beautiful and she's gorgeous um she did
  • 00:31:05
sustain some damage when I wore her
  • 00:31:07
twice I wore her to ComiCon then I also
  • 00:31:09
wore her for a photo shoot so she's been
  • 00:31:12
lived in and it shows overall I can't
  • 00:31:15
believe that I made this out of just a
  • 00:31:17
    bunch of
  • 00:31:19
    supplies I don't think I mean I knew I
  • 00:31:22
was going to get here I just didn't know
  • 00:31:23
how um and you just saw all the how so
  • 00:31:27
it definitely was a test of willpower to
  • 00:31:30
get through this project but it was so
  • 00:31:32
completely worth it I love how it came
  • 00:31:34
out it just I feel so beautiful and
  • 00:31:38
confident when I wear it and I I think
  • 00:31:40
it's like the perfect way for me to
  • 00:31:41
celebrate my excitement for the wicked
  • 00:31:42
film if I had unlimited time which I
  • 00:31:45
don't because I wanted to work on other
  • 00:31:46
projects this year I would have loved to
  • 00:31:49
been able to hand be the entire top of
  • 00:31:52
the dress but that just wasn't in the
  • 00:31:54
cards for me so finding this beaded
  • 00:31:56
fabric was a huge win and if I were to
  • 00:31:58
do anything different I would love to
  • 00:32:01
figure out how to make the skirt lighter
  • 00:32:03
    because it's a it's physically damaging
  • 00:32:05
    to wear
  • 00:32:07
    and I think that's it I don't really
  • 00:32:09
have anything else to say because this
  • 00:32:11
has taken everything out of me but it
  • 00:32:13
was completely worth it so thank you
  • 00:32:15
guys so much for watching don't forget

  • 00:32:22
Glenda's iconic looks from the wicked
  • 00:32:24
    movie
  • 00:32:25
um I love her this whole costume is like
  • 00:32:30
    a a physical liability I guess I'm just
  • 00:32:33
going to stare at this for the rest of
  • 00:32:34
    the year bye
