- 00:02:25so uh give me a second here I'm going to
- 00:02:28launch a poll
- 00:02:30and
- 00:02:33let's see
- 00:02:43maybe there it is
- 00:02:46all right so here we are this poll is
- 00:02:50really just helping us understand where
- 00:02:53you are on your sustainability Journey
- 00:02:55so if you wouldn't mind taking a brief
- 00:02:58moment go ahead I will read through
- 00:03:00those and select I think you can select
- 00:03:02more than one if more than one applies
- 00:03:04to you but the question is really where
- 00:03:06are you in your sustainability Journey
- 00:03:08at your company
- 00:03:10um and so the first one is trying to
- 00:03:11understand the business case you know
- 00:03:13are you still really you know trying to
- 00:03:16figure out what that is
- 00:03:18um customers are asking you but you
- 00:03:20don't understand what they're asking
- 00:03:22necessarily or why
- 00:03:24um are you starting to implement a few
- 00:03:26projects uh you are gathering metrics
- 00:03:29or um you may be gathering some metrics
- 00:03:32but you need to learn how to integrate
- 00:03:34sustainability across your business and
- 00:03:36that's really where our expertise lies
- 00:03:39um have you created baselines or kpis
- 00:03:41are you starting to draft smart goals
- 00:03:44any of those that apply or other I see
- 00:03:47someone the other category so if you're
- 00:03:50brave and willing to
- 00:03:52um tell us what other means in the chat
- 00:03:56that'd be great
- 00:03:57so I'll give it just a few more minutes
- 00:03:59it looks like about a half of you have
- 00:04:03answered
- 00:04:06great
- 00:04:09all right just a couple more seconds
- 00:04:11here
- 00:04:16great appreciate
- 00:04:18um you've taken that kind of really help
- 00:04:20us understand where you're at
- 00:04:22so I'm gonna end the result or and the
- 00:04:25here and here are the results hopefully
- 00:04:27you can see this on your screen but we
- 00:04:29had
- 00:04:30um three of you say trying to understand
- 00:04:32the business case
- 00:04:34um one customers are asking but you're
- 00:04:37not sure what that means uh 30 of you
- 00:04:40have implemented a few projects
- 00:04:42um one of you Gathering metrics and four
- 00:04:45of you needing to understand how to
- 00:04:47integrate it across your business
- 00:04:50great and
- 00:04:51um two others like I said if you're if
- 00:04:53you're willing to share what other is
- 00:04:55for you um please just put that in the
- 00:04:57chat um and I'll just sit here too uh
- 00:04:59we're a friendly group and if you have
- 00:05:02any questions at any time please feel
- 00:05:04free to just put those in the chat we'll
- 00:05:06kind of pause to ask if you have
- 00:05:08questions along the way
- 00:05:10um but really this webinar is for you to
- 00:05:12get your questions answered so please
- 00:05:15feel free to ask us anything that you
- 00:05:18like
- 00:05:19all right
- 00:05:21so I am going to start here by going
- 00:05:24over sort of the business case for
- 00:05:25sustainability and I like to do this by
- 00:05:27starting with how we Define
- 00:05:29sustainability so the way that we Define
- 00:05:32it here with wmp and wsbc is the pursuit
- 00:05:35of business growth strategy that creates
- 00:05:37long-term stakeholder value by seizing
- 00:05:41opportunities and managing risks related
- 00:05:43to the company's environmental and
- 00:05:45social impacts
- 00:05:46now there's a lot of different
- 00:05:48definitions to sustainability but this
- 00:05:50is the one that we really resonate with
- 00:05:52and we really believe that
- 00:05:54sustainability is a growth strategy for
- 00:05:57organization and it does create
- 00:05:59long-term value and the reason
- 00:06:01stakeholder value is underlined there
- 00:06:03because
- 00:06:04um you know we're not taking a
- 00:06:06shareholder lens here we're looking at
- 00:06:08sustainability is a holistic sort of
- 00:06:11system for a business and community and
- 00:06:14therefore all the stakeholders that are
- 00:06:15involved meeting your employees you know
- 00:06:18your board your leadership your
- 00:06:20customers
- 00:06:21your supply chain and potentially the
- 00:06:24community that you reside are all
- 00:06:26getting some sort of value out of your
- 00:06:29organization
- 00:06:32all right so brief history sort of about
- 00:06:35the evolution of sustainability here you
- 00:06:38know it again sustainability means a lot
- 00:06:40of things to different people and don't
- 00:06:42love the term sustainability in and of
- 00:06:45itself but uh really in the 90s it
- 00:06:49started you know it's really kind of
- 00:06:50focused on this triple bottom line
- 00:06:52concept people planet and profit it was
- 00:06:55trying to bring
- 00:06:57um environment and and people Workforce
- 00:07:01Community Society to an eco-playing
- 00:07:03field with profit and this was really
- 00:07:06the dawn of what's called CSR or
- 00:07:08corporate social responsibility you know
- 00:07:10a lot of companies still publish
- 00:07:12Corporate social responsibility reports
- 00:07:15um so this movement really you know grew
- 00:07:18out of the 90s it was coined to CBL or
- 00:07:21people bottom line but one of the things
- 00:07:23that was missing was the governance that
- 00:07:26really holds all of these pieces
- 00:07:27together and so the second wave
- 00:07:30of sustainability really uh came out of
- 00:07:35the finance industry and in really
- 00:07:38groups are also out of the investment
- 00:07:40Community was socially responsible
- 00:07:42investing and you know we've heard an
- 00:07:44uptick of this ESG
- 00:07:47um in popularity it sends covet really
- 00:07:51um and you know there's a popularity in
- 00:07:53ESG and there's also uh unpopularity in
- 00:07:55ESG growing
- 00:07:57um but really what this means is that
- 00:07:59we're looking at the organization's
- 00:08:01environment
- 00:08:02environmental social and governance the
- 00:08:05way that they're managed
- 00:08:07um associations
- 00:08:09so I really like this slide and I like
- 00:08:11Jared because it talks about the
- 00:08:13changing conversation of where we are
- 00:08:15today so on the left you see sort of
- 00:08:17that governance and Leadership became a
- 00:08:20part of sustainability or ESG but it
- 00:08:23really didn't have an equal part until
- 00:08:26more recently and then the other thing I
- 00:08:28like about this is it adds in the
- 00:08:30strategy and execution piece which is
- 00:08:32critical as many of you pointed out
- 00:08:35that's the P part you might be
- 00:08:36struggling with right you can have
- 00:08:38environmental metrics and social metrics
- 00:08:40but how do you tie it all together how
- 00:08:42do you integrate it across your
- 00:08:43organization and how do you craft a
- 00:08:45strategy that really connects to your
- 00:08:48um Core Business initiatives to grow or
- 00:08:52use it as a growth tool in a
- 00:08:54differentiator so like I said that's
- 00:08:56that's really one of the areas that we
- 00:08:58excel in sort of one of the areas I'm
- 00:09:00really passionate about and so that's
- 00:09:02really where this conversation is today
- 00:09:04and where it's headed in the future
- 00:09:07um we get a lot of confusion around what
- 00:09:09is ESG and sustainability and other the
- 00:09:11same thing are they a different thing
- 00:09:12and the way that we Define that is that
- 00:09:14ESG environmental social and governance
- 00:09:17is really a financial Tool uh to measure
- 00:09:21the impact of sustainability for an
- 00:09:24organization so it's one of the tools
- 00:09:27it's one of the lenses
- 00:09:29um and it does really resonate more with
- 00:09:31the publicly traded companies because
- 00:09:34that's
- 00:09:35where they're being financially measured
- 00:09:39uh so I'm sure you're aware of this word
- 00:09:42sustainability means a lot of things
- 00:09:44I've said that a few times I like the
- 00:09:46slide because it kind of shares the
- 00:09:48universe of what we're talking about
- 00:09:49when we talk about sustainability
- 00:09:52um you know I've been working in the
- 00:09:53space quite a long time and you know
- 00:09:56traditionally in manufacturing
- 00:09:58especially there's a large emphasis on
- 00:10:00the environmental side
- 00:10:01but really
- 00:10:03you know when I talk to businesses you
- 00:10:06know they're like well what about you
- 00:10:08know data security or what about you
- 00:10:10know risk management in Ireland's all of
- 00:10:13these things fall under sustainability
- 00:10:15inside of an organization and sometimes
- 00:10:17that's a hard concept to sort of grasp
- 00:10:20for those who are newer to this so we
- 00:10:22really take a systems approach to
- 00:10:24sustainability it's really looking at
- 00:10:26all of the systems across your business
- 00:10:28and how you can be in that continuous
- 00:10:30Improvement cycle for
- 00:10:33um all of these areas so
- 00:10:36um this slide again just shows uh kind
- 00:10:38of the the key environmental topics the
- 00:10:41key leadership and governance topics
- 00:10:43business model and Innovation is a part
- 00:10:46of this uh human capital or you know we
- 00:10:50like to say Workforce
- 00:10:51um or in social capital or how
- 00:10:54um you know you're handling human rights
- 00:10:56put them as an example
- 00:11:01um let's see here
- 00:11:04oh someone was asking about how this
- 00:11:06differs from the stgs which is a great
- 00:11:08question
- 00:11:09um it I don't want to say it differs per
- 00:11:12se Alex they go back to the slide um
- 00:11:15from the sdgs I would say it's a
- 00:11:17different kind of framework and a
- 00:11:18different approach if you're not
- 00:11:20familiar with the sustainable
- 00:11:21development goals
- 00:11:22um or put out by the United Nations and
- 00:11:24there's I believe 19 goals
- 00:11:28um and each one of them touches all of
- 00:11:32these categories so similarly it's kind
- 00:11:34of a holistic approach
- 00:11:37um to sustainability so it very much is
- 00:11:39in alignment and a lot of companies will
- 00:11:42use the sdgs as a framework again for
- 00:11:45aligning what is material to their
- 00:11:49organization and we'll talk a little bit
- 00:11:51more about that
- 00:11:55all right so uh the business case for
- 00:11:58sustainability is fairly well
- 00:11:59established at this point there is a
- 00:12:02large emphasis today on reducing
- 00:12:04long-term risks and sustainability can
- 00:12:07add to the resiliency of a company
- 00:12:10uh they're really you know some people
- 00:12:13sometimes we hear from manufacturers
- 00:12:15especially that you know the
- 00:12:17sustainability thing will cost them time
- 00:12:18or money and that can be true when you
- 00:12:21come when it comes to large Capital
- 00:12:24Investments however a company that's
- 00:12:26integrating continuous Improvement
- 00:12:28across their or operations
- 00:12:31um is really reducing costs if they're
- 00:12:33doing it correctly so one example we
- 00:12:36have a medium-sized manufacturer that we
- 00:12:38work with that really started looking at
- 00:12:40this through the product lens and over
- 00:12:42time through
- 00:12:44um redesign through understanding the
- 00:12:46materials that were part of the process
- 00:12:48of their design of improving their
- 00:12:52processes on the manufacturing side
- 00:12:55increasing throughput reducing waste
- 00:12:58both in handling and waste on the actual
- 00:13:02product
- 00:13:04reevaluating packaging
- 00:13:06um you know all of those things happen
- 00:13:08in a process over time but they were
- 00:13:10able able to save literally millions of
- 00:13:13dollars in across product lines for
- 00:13:15their organization and once they saw
- 00:13:17that impact right they started looking
- 00:13:19at okay well let's look at energy and
- 00:13:22all the energy that we're using uh how
- 00:13:26can they make adjustments to production
- 00:13:27that help them save on energy costs
- 00:13:31now they're working on a zero waste
- 00:13:33initiative across the organization and
- 00:13:35they're really doing that because they
- 00:13:37understand the value of
- 00:13:40um savings that it has for them uh and
- 00:13:44how they can use those resources to
- 00:13:46allocate for other initiatives
- 00:13:49uh McKinsey and Company reports that
- 00:13:52improvements in operating efficiencies
- 00:13:55can reduce operating costs by up to 60
- 00:13:57percent so that's not Pocket Change
- 00:14:01folks uh you know we're really talking
- 00:14:03about real dollars that you can that can
- 00:14:05be saved
- 00:14:07um so I also want to touch on
- 00:14:09stakeholders for a moment I'm in the
- 00:14:11manufacturing sector one uh this is
- 00:14:14really something I think that you need
- 00:14:16to consider so if you're a supplier to a
- 00:14:19large publicly traded company
- 00:14:22if you're a supplier to the government
- 00:14:24either directly or indirectly if you're
- 00:14:27in an industry that is one or that's on
- 00:14:32the consumer product side or that your
- 00:14:34product ends up in the hands of
- 00:14:36consumers
- 00:14:38um
- 00:14:38whether it's a product itself or
- 00:14:40something that they consume like food
- 00:14:42and beverage or you have a product that
- 00:14:44exports to the Europe to the EU
- 00:14:48the pressure is on in all of those
- 00:14:50categories
- 00:14:51for sure
- 00:14:53um so what that means for you whether
- 00:14:55you like it or not is that the
- 00:14:56expectation uh for you to be measuring
- 00:15:00and improving some of these P metrics is
- 00:15:04really really there and I can't
- 00:15:05understate that we have had companies
- 00:15:08that we've worked with that say they're
- 00:15:10searching for new suppliers and they're
- 00:15:12going out on websites and trying to
- 00:15:15understand what the company's doing in
- 00:15:17sustainability if there's no
- 00:15:20reliable presence and sustainability
- 00:15:22they're being overlooked and so we're
- 00:15:26hearing that hearsay
- 00:15:28um but you know it
- 00:15:30There's an opportunity there build
- 00:15:33relationships with your stakeholders
- 00:15:35with your customers and also get out
- 00:15:38ahead of some of the rules and
- 00:15:40regulations that are coming to be able
- 00:15:42to
- 00:15:44um you know consider potentially new
- 00:15:46markets and new customers that you might
- 00:15:48not have had access to previously by
- 00:15:50organizing around sustainability
- 00:15:53so there's a lot of different things on
- 00:15:56this slide that kind of are the business
- 00:15:58case but I just also wanted to briefly
- 00:16:00touch on the workforce side of this uh
- 00:16:03because it's really no secret that in
- 00:16:04the manufacturing sector is one of the
- 00:16:06hardest hit when it comes to finding
- 00:16:08Talent uh and so as Workforce changes
- 00:16:12over to a younger generation the
- 00:16:15expectations the needs the values of
- 00:16:19these younger employees are different
- 00:16:22um and a recent study done by cone
- 00:16:24Communications they say that 64 of
- 00:16:27workers will not work for a company that
- 00:16:30doesn't have strong environmental or
- 00:16:32social commitments
- 00:16:35um I think that number is rising that's
- 00:16:38you know the majority at this point and
- 00:16:41from what I'm seeing again a lot of
- 00:16:44turnover often happens when companies
- 00:16:47can't figure out how to
- 00:16:50how to walk their talk in an appropriate
- 00:16:52way right so so green washing is a real
- 00:16:54thing they might get some people in the
- 00:16:56door saying yeah we have some great
- 00:16:57initiatives but if they're not really
- 00:16:59taking that seriously that adds to the
- 00:17:01turnover and it really can be a way to
- 00:17:04engage some recruit and retain uh talent
- 00:17:07in today's Workforce
- 00:17:10so those are just a few key aspects of
- 00:17:13the business case there's a lot more if
- 00:17:15you want any more specific examples or
- 00:17:18have specific questions about any of
- 00:17:20this I'm happy to answer on that now or
- 00:17:24or offline
- 00:17:26uh so after this I am going to turn it
- 00:17:30over so uh Greg could we talk about key
- 00:17:33sustainability terminology
- 00:17:42uh are you there Greg I can't hear you
- 00:17:49uh-oh I know he was having some internet
- 00:17:52troubles this morning so am I doing okay
- 00:17:55Jesse now okay yes now I can hear you
- 00:17:57great thanks uh keep an eye on this for
- 00:18:00me so uh thanks all for attending I just
- 00:18:03wanted to spend a few minutes to talk
- 00:18:04about fundamentals of sustainability so
- 00:18:06we start to look at some of the
- 00:18:08definitions that are out there it's
- 00:18:10always good to have a good understanding
- 00:18:12of what these are so when you hear these
- 00:18:14typically you know this is our
- 00:18:15sustainability 101 session where we'll
- 00:18:18talk about some of these and one that we
- 00:18:20we hear about quite often is carbon
- 00:18:22footprint and that's really your
- 00:18:24indicator to compares the amount of
- 00:18:26greenhouse gases emitted from your
- 00:18:28company so what does that look like so
- 00:18:30you're usually reporting this in in tons
- 00:18:33of omissions per year so typically
- 00:18:35that's when you hear the term carbon
- 00:18:37footprint that's what that's being
- 00:18:39referred to and also when you start to
- 00:18:42look at and you hear the term carbon
- 00:18:44accounting it's basically the method
- 00:18:46that you're using to count inventory or
- 00:18:48track then report these gas emissions so
- 00:18:51this is the process that you go through
- 00:18:53to make sure that you are are stating
- 00:18:56what exactly is going on
- 00:18:58organizationally
- 00:18:59so we talk about carbon this is where
- 00:19:02the the fun begins is because we start
- 00:19:04to hear scope one two and three and
- 00:19:06sometimes people use these and they they
- 00:19:08talk as if you know what these are so I
- 00:19:11just wanted to go through these quick
- 00:19:12with you today to talk about what these
- 00:19:14are so you have a good understanding of
- 00:19:16it and scope one emissions is
- 00:19:17essentially that I arrow in the middle
- 00:19:19it's the direct emissions from your
- 00:19:21company owned and controlled resources
- 00:19:23so it's things you control internally
- 00:19:25scope two are your indirect emissions
- 00:19:27from your generation of purchased energy
- 00:19:30from your utility so it's whatever you
- 00:19:32bring in if it's gas electric you know
- 00:19:34so those are the two things that most
- 00:19:36companies track and can control it's the
- 00:19:39scope three emissions which are all the
- 00:19:41indirect emissions that are in your
- 00:19:43upstream and downstream value chains so
- 00:19:46these are your value stream and value
- 00:19:48chain emissions so those are when you're
- 00:19:51asking your suppliers and it's
- 00:19:53conversely you may be being asked by
- 00:19:54your customers for this information so
- 00:19:56that way they can provide their scope
- 00:19:58three emissions
- 00:20:01next slide is water balance and
- 00:20:05essentially what we're talking about
- 00:20:06here is really understanding the flows
- 00:20:08of water in and out of your facility or
- 00:20:10processes in your operation so that way
- 00:20:13you can get a Quantified number of how
- 00:20:15much water you're consuming as an
- 00:20:18organization so
- 00:20:20it's tough to get every drop so that's
- 00:20:22where there's some acceptable ranges for
- 00:20:25accuracy you know to be able to
- 00:20:27determine what that water balance is in
- 00:20:29your organization so when you're water
- 00:20:31balance it's trying to figure out what's
- 00:20:33coming and what's coming out what you're
- 00:20:35using internally
- 00:20:39the next term is is one that we're
- 00:20:42starting to hear more and more of and
- 00:20:44you may be getting asked this by some of
- 00:20:45your customers is is talking about
- 00:20:48circular economy and what this is is
- 00:20:50starting to look at you know
- 00:20:53in the past we've always look at things
- 00:20:55take make and waste is really the way we
- 00:20:57would do it we would take something and
- 00:20:59we'd make something with it and you go
- 00:21:00into the you know trash but you know now
- 00:21:02what we're starting to look at on
- 00:21:03circular economy is how can we use those
- 00:21:06resources to and and keep those
- 00:21:08resources in use longer to get the
- 00:21:10maximum value while being able to
- 00:21:12recover and regenerate some of the
- 00:21:15componentry from it at the end of its
- 00:21:17useful life so sometimes organizations
- 00:21:19will bring back some of their equipment
- 00:21:21and take the parts off that they can use
- 00:21:23again and reuse in on different
- 00:21:25assemblies so it just differs
- 00:21:27organizationally as to how circular you
- 00:21:29can be with your with your materials and
- 00:21:32the products that you and goods and
- 00:21:33services that you produce so
- 00:21:38the next term is an interesting one and
- 00:21:41one that sometimes gets uh misquoted
- 00:21:44quite a bit in its normalization and
- 00:21:46what we're talking about here is really
- 00:21:48trying to equate something to Apples to
- 00:21:51Apples so that where there's a
- 00:21:52consistent scale so that way you can
- 00:21:55understand and evaluate over time what
- 00:21:58that looks like so you can see you know
- 00:22:00some examples here the number weight
- 00:22:03their units produced at a facility so
- 00:22:05sometimes we might be looking at you
- 00:22:07know how much energy was consumed versus
- 00:22:09the amount of units produced or we start
- 00:22:11to look at you know persons hours worked
- 00:22:14at a facility for the amount of
- 00:22:16electricity consumed you know these are
- 00:22:18some things and and what you're trying
- 00:22:20to do here with this terminology and
- 00:22:22with normalization is to be able to have
- 00:22:25some standard that you can use to
- 00:22:26measure to track your improvements and
- 00:22:28activities year over year or whatever
- 00:22:30time frame that you're looking at
- 00:22:36along those same lines
- 00:22:45uh oh Greg I think you cut out
- 00:22:52um I'll I'll just jump in until I can
- 00:22:54hear you again how productive can you be
- 00:22:57can you repeat that one Greg you kind of
- 00:22:59cut out on that one okay sorry so
- 00:23:01resource intensity is the productivity
- 00:23:03portion of things and we're always
- 00:23:05looking at productivity we've been
- 00:23:06looking at productivity long before we
- 00:23:08were thinking about sustainability and
- 00:23:10it's how do you use those raw materials
- 00:23:12most effectively to get the value add
- 00:23:14that your organization is looking for
- 00:23:16how effective are you in using the
- 00:23:18materials that you need to produce your
- 00:23:19products
- 00:23:27through our work and and working with
- 00:23:29companies and and through our research
- 00:23:31and experiences we've really come up
- 00:23:32with five core beliefs for enhancing
- 00:23:35productivity and if you start to look at
- 00:23:37those on the right hand side thinking
- 00:23:39lean how can we do how can we you know
- 00:23:41do well with and be effective and as as
- 00:23:44effective as we can be operationally you
- 00:23:47know sometimes we start to look at you
- 00:23:48know setting goals and limits that will
- 00:23:50be able to help us to be able to you
- 00:23:53know try to figure out what we want to
- 00:23:54be we want to be here so we're really
- 00:23:56tracking some of these things and
- 00:23:57setting goals and objectives
- 00:23:59uh really should start to think you know
- 00:24:02profit per hour how do we look at things
- 00:24:04and bring it down to
- 00:24:05um more a greater understanding of how
- 00:24:08you throughput yield and you know how we
- 00:24:10can do these things operationally that
- 00:24:12are really going to help us to you know
- 00:24:14look at things from from a like an
- 00:24:16employee per hour uh perspective but
- 00:24:19really starting to also think about
- 00:24:21things from a holistic standpoint of
- 00:24:23really starting to understand can we do
- 00:24:25things you know from a technology
- 00:24:26standpoint can we improve some of the
- 00:24:28assist operational systems we have in
- 00:24:31our organization and how do we change
- 00:24:32behaviors to be able to you know bring
- 00:24:35about a more collaborative culture and
- 00:24:37and looking at you know how we can
- 00:24:39improve our productivity and then once
- 00:24:41again thinking circular how can we take
- 00:24:43advantage by you know increasing and
- 00:24:46optimizing our products and and the
- 00:24:48service life cycles that and that they
- 00:24:50maintain
- 00:24:55so really the secret sauce for the
- 00:24:57productivity Improvement is is taking a
- 00:25:00look at and trying to find ways that you
- 00:25:02can substitute away from scarce
- 00:25:03resources so were those opportunities
- 00:25:05lied do that you have some
- 00:25:07organizationally that you can consider
- 00:25:09or are there ways that you can eliminate
- 00:25:11waste through your system you know
- 00:25:13anywhere in the system if you can
- 00:25:14eliminate waste and figure out ways to
- 00:25:17increase your circularity by reusing our
- 00:25:19recycling products and then ultimately
- 00:25:22trying to optimize your efficiency from
- 00:25:24a standpoint of you know how can you do
- 00:25:26it safely and reliably and and have
- 00:25:29people buy into that and that's you know
- 00:25:31starting to look at that culture how do
- 00:25:33we change some of the behaviors that
- 00:25:34we've always been doing
- 00:25:38yeah
- 00:25:39any questions on the 101 portion
- 00:25:43most of you probably know all those
- 00:25:44things so nothing nothing too worth
- 00:25:46shattering there so once you understand
- 00:25:48those main Concepts let's figure out how
- 00:25:51do we get started on this what would you
- 00:25:52do to get started well there's really
- 00:25:54five key components to a successful
- 00:25:56sustainability program and the first is
- 00:25:58commitment is really understanding your
- 00:26:01true north what defines sustainability
- 00:26:03for your company
- 00:26:04uh metrics that matter you know you
- 00:26:07start to understand what the global
- 00:26:08context and the local measures are
- 00:26:10determine what's important to you in
- 00:26:12your organization what will be measured
- 00:26:14to make a difference really that sets
- 00:26:15the purpose of the organization
- 00:26:18code of conduct you know it's doing the
- 00:26:20right things you know this is everyone's
- 00:26:22responsibility whether you want to
- 00:26:24practice sustainability or not this is
- 00:26:26really the key to you know making sure
- 00:26:29that you have a successful program
- 00:26:32um impacts and actions it's really the
- 00:26:34products processes and innovations that
- 00:26:36make your company sustainable so those
- 00:26:37are the things that you start to take a
- 00:26:39look at where can we have the impact
- 00:26:40what are the actions that we can take to
- 00:26:42make that happen and then ultimately you
- 00:26:45know
- 00:26:46trying to you know through strategic
- 00:26:47customer Market employee tools and
- 00:26:49systems you know create and new and re
- 00:26:52revitalized we who are we doing what are
- 00:26:55we going to be who do we want to be how
- 00:26:56do we want to project ourselves you know
- 00:26:58in the marketplace so those are those
- 00:27:00are some that we've found to be you know
- 00:27:03very true and in the work that we've
- 00:27:05done with the clients that we've helped
- 00:27:06with their sustainability efforts
- 00:27:12so when you start to look at this road
- 00:27:14map part of being able to build a
- 00:27:16credible business case is really being
- 00:27:17able to cut through the noise of
- 00:27:19sustainability there's a lot of
- 00:27:21information about sustainability out
- 00:27:22there as just you stated and it's not
- 00:27:24all equally relevant or impactful to
- 00:27:26your organization
- 00:27:27so you know some we've heard of them you
- 00:27:30know and we've worked with manufacturing
- 00:27:31facilities that you know work really
- 00:27:33hard on trying to conserve water because
- 00:27:35they've heard that's a good thing to do
- 00:27:36but really it's not it's ignoring their
- 00:27:39climate impacts on their virgin material
- 00:27:41consumption where they could have more
- 00:27:42impact by taking a look at that so you
- 00:27:45know where what we need to start taking
- 00:27:47a look at is really understanding how
- 00:27:50can we make those how can we take a
- 00:27:52systematic approach to being able to
- 00:27:54address these issues to make things more
- 00:27:56complete in your organization
- 00:28:00so you can see from this graph here you
- 00:28:03know what we're starting to look at is a
- 00:28:05methodology that we work with clients
- 00:28:07when we develop a sustainability
- 00:28:08strategy for them and this aligns also
- 00:28:11with the green math
- 00:28:18oh no he cut out again at least for me
- 00:28:21yeah okay
- 00:28:27um sustainability issues
- 00:28:30Greg you cut out again so
- 00:28:32um start back at where you were talking
- 00:28:35about
- 00:28:36this is a framework
- 00:28:38sorry about that
- 00:28:39thank you
- 00:28:41um so the you know what this diagram is
- 00:28:43showing is it's a methodology that we
- 00:28:45use when we work with our clients to
- 00:28:47help them develop a sustainability
- 00:28:49strategy and roadmap and it's it really
- 00:28:51aligns with the Green Masters platform
- 00:28:53that Christ is going to speak to shortly
- 00:28:55and it's predicated on the plan do check
- 00:28:57act model which is a key tenant of all
- 00:29:00ISO systems and it helps you to really
- 00:29:02achieve scalable performance
- 00:29:04improvements in the sustainability
- 00:29:05issues that matter most to your
- 00:29:07organization and your stakeholders and
- 00:29:09build on success over time so really
- 00:29:11it's a it's a it's a methodology that's
- 00:29:14uh continually improving
- 00:29:19let's go let's do one more term here and
- 00:29:21this is a term that's uh where we
- 00:29:23usually start with our clients is
- 00:29:24materiality and what we're trying to
- 00:29:27understand here is to you you have to
- 00:29:30understand you can't do everything at
- 00:29:31once and you have to look at things from
- 00:29:34a risk and opportunity standpoint to
- 00:29:35understand what's material to your
- 00:29:37business and as you can see in this the
- 00:29:39Box on the upper right hand side a
- 00:29:41material issue is one that's gonna you
- 00:29:43know could affect your organization's
- 00:29:45credibility operational or financial
- 00:29:47Integrity or your key stakeholders say
- 00:29:50it's important so those those are the
- 00:29:52issues that you should be taking into
- 00:29:53consideration as you develop your
- 00:29:55sustainability program and activities
- 00:29:58and ultimately you just start where you
- 00:30:01are and you grow over time so nobody
- 00:30:03expects you to be you know perfect at
- 00:30:05the onset the goal is quality and not
- 00:30:08quantity so try not to bite off more
- 00:30:10than you can chew and really if you
- 00:30:12start to look at it and Krista is going
- 00:30:14to talk a little bit about this and how
- 00:30:16the Green Masters program may be of
- 00:30:18assistance to some news because it
- 00:30:20really emphasizes understanding what's
- 00:30:22material to your organization and then
- 00:30:23letting that inform your prioritization
- 00:30:25of topics and that's what that graph is
- 00:30:28on the right and I won't steal Crystal's
- 00:30:29Thunder on that but really it helps you
- 00:30:31to understand and how you integrate that
- 00:30:33sustainability and how you do business
- 00:30:35now and in the future
- 00:30:39so some things to include as we look at
- 00:30:42from a different perspectives is really
- 00:30:44to understand you know and when when we
- 00:30:47conduct our sustainability assessments
- 00:30:49with companies we help companies
- 00:30:50understand the current state for their
- 00:30:52industry how to navigate the landscape
- 00:30:54of that disclosure and it's and
- 00:30:56typically through standards framework
- 00:30:58certifications Etc and what those
- 00:31:00elements of sustainability are most
- 00:31:02important for your organization and then
- 00:31:04you can take that information can and it
- 00:31:06can be used to establish your business
- 00:31:08priorities you outline a plan of action
- 00:31:10to accelerate that progress and then
- 00:31:12ultimately you know address those
- 00:31:14priority areas
- 00:31:21yeah
- 00:31:24Jesse next slide
- 00:31:27foreign
- 00:31:31I think you skipped one for me questions
- 00:31:34to consider and thank you
- 00:31:36um so some of these these are questions
- 00:31:38for you to take a look at and ask
- 00:31:40internally in your organization as you
- 00:31:42start to look at and develop your
- 00:31:43sustainability uh framework and
- 00:31:45structure you know there's some
- 00:31:47questions here that really can help you
- 00:31:49decide you know where you're at
- 00:31:51organizationally and ensure that you set
- 00:31:53yourself up for for success as you
- 00:31:55develop those systems so I won't go into
- 00:31:57them here but I mean you start to look
- 00:31:59at these things if you haven't asked
- 00:32:01these questions these might be some that
- 00:32:02would be very interesting for you to ask
- 00:32:05and get some information that's valuable
- 00:32:07Intel as you develop your system
- 00:32:13so why does material materiality matter
- 00:32:16to companies because you know if you're
- 00:32:19focused on your material issues because
- 00:32:22it really has an opportunity to really
- 00:32:25you know look at the opportunity for you
- 00:32:27to build value organizationally and it
- 00:32:29also serves as a you know
- 00:32:32you can she also identify your risks to
- 00:32:35your reputation and your profitability
- 00:32:36when you start to look at this so you
- 00:32:38know for money companies material
- 00:32:40sustainability impacts are in your
- 00:32:43supply chain and you know and that's
- 00:32:44often more than sixty percent of your
- 00:32:46business when you're more of your
- 00:32:48activities when you're looking at
- 00:32:49sustainability so if you factor in
- 00:32:51supply chain you know you want to start
- 00:32:53taking a look at you know five aspects
- 00:32:56for during your assessment to take a
- 00:32:58take a look at that and and these are
- 00:33:01biodiversity your upstream and
- 00:33:03downstream greenhouse gases materials
- 00:33:05toxic toxics and waste so those are five
- 00:33:09areas that you should you know take a
- 00:33:10look at as you you know consider and
- 00:33:13develop your systems to start to take a
- 00:33:15look at where are there some
- 00:33:16opportunities there that you know might
- 00:33:18be a risk for you organizationally
- 00:33:23um
- 00:33:25so what strategy is right for you well
- 00:33:27that's exactly right it is yours it's
- 00:33:29got to be your strategy so sometimes it
- 00:33:31might be building it you might create
- 00:33:34something as and develop it on your own
- 00:33:36you might leverage some things that
- 00:33:39you're doing you know organizationally
- 00:33:40you might already be doing SWOT analysis
- 00:33:43or you know doing other types of iso
- 00:33:45related systems and structures that
- 00:33:48you're already doing you can incorporate
- 00:33:49and build build your sustainability into
- 00:33:51that or sometimes your customers are
- 00:33:53driving this you know they tell you you
- 00:33:55need to be reporting to the
- 00:33:57sustainability Consortium or you know
- 00:33:59you there's a different segment of this
- 00:34:01business sector that you need to be
- 00:34:03reporting stuff to or it's Market driven
- 00:34:05it could be you know CDP you know
- 00:34:08sometimes you hear some of those terms
- 00:34:09and stuff well we got to submit to CDP
- 00:34:11or sasby or you know understanding that
- 00:34:15you know there may be things that your
- 00:34:17customers are going to dictate what you
- 00:34:19can do so you have to kind of balance
- 00:34:21and determine which is the best path for
- 00:34:23you to take organizationally as you
- 00:34:25address sustainability
- 00:34:29and as you're starting to do this you we
- 00:34:31want to use we want you to start
- 00:34:33considering how you're developing those
- 00:34:35uh kpis you know again determining
- 00:34:37what's important in material to your
- 00:34:39organization those are the ones where
- 00:34:40you're going to have those key
- 00:34:41performance indicators driving your
- 00:34:43activities and the things that you do
- 00:34:45you have to establish organizational
- 00:34:47goals for your sustainability what are
- 00:34:49you trying to accomplish what is the
- 00:34:50time frame you're looking to reduce or
- 00:34:53or meet certain requirements and then
- 00:34:56Cascade those goals into specific
- 00:34:57objectives so we talk about smart goals
- 00:35:00and how we set those up so that way you
- 00:35:02can measure that and hold people
- 00:35:03accountable for you know working towards
- 00:35:05those goals assessing your current
- 00:35:08performance level you need to be honest
- 00:35:09and be where you're at it's not where
- 00:35:11you'd like to be it's where you're at
- 00:35:12today and how do you improve to get to
- 00:35:14where you want to be in the future you
- 00:35:16know establishing those baselines and
- 00:35:17targets but then finding time to
- 00:35:20establish a Cadence to review those kpis
- 00:35:22so you know when is a good time to be
- 00:35:24looking at that in most uh ISO systems
- 00:35:27you have management reviews so and
- 00:35:30typically those could be as as as
- 00:35:32frequent as once a quarter so you know
- 00:35:35that might be a good time to be looking
- 00:35:36at your sustainability kpis as well if
- 00:35:38you integrate that into your existing
- 00:35:40system
- 00:35:41actually
- 00:35:42so ultimately what we're trying to say
- 00:35:45here is you know sustainability is is
- 00:35:47really looking at your operational
- 00:35:49activities to be able to see how can you
- 00:35:51impact your environment and your in your
- 00:35:54work business by doing more with less
- 00:35:56and then essentially we've been doing
- 00:35:58that for many many years even before
- 00:36:00sustainability was considered cool so
- 00:36:02you know continue to start looking at
- 00:36:04ways that your organization can do more
- 00:36:06with less than your well you're going to
- 00:36:08be you know taking some of these tips
- 00:36:10and and Concepts and you'll be able to
- 00:36:12you know start realizing some greater
- 00:36:14benefits and then realizing the the
- 00:36:17benefits of you know incorporating
- 00:36:18sustainability into your existing or
- 00:36:21developing into a system that works well
- 00:36:23for you organizationally
- 00:36:25so uh I think I'm over on time so I'm
- 00:36:28going to turn it over to Krista so she
- 00:36:30can get rolling on the Green Masters
- 00:36:31thank you
- 00:36:33thanks Greg you're good on time uh that
- 00:36:36was fantastic so
- 00:36:38as I said in my introduction I
- 00:36:42one of my roles in the organization is
- 00:36:45to oversee our Green Masters program The
- 00:36:48Green Masters program has been around
- 00:36:50for more than 16 years but we actually
- 00:36:52do very recently just this year launched
- 00:36:55a redesigned version of the program that
- 00:36:58was really purpose-built as a scalable
- 00:37:01standard for companies getting started
- 00:37:03in sustainability I'm going to go
- 00:37:05through a little bit about how we came
- 00:37:08to that and how the green master school
- 00:37:10really acts as that scalable standard
- 00:37:12and that on-ramp for companies in
- 00:37:15sustainability next slide please
- 00:37:18so when we started in wsbc again has
- 00:37:22been around a long time
- 00:37:24um and has been supporting organizations
- 00:37:27in sustainability hoping companies
- 00:37:30Advance sustainable business practices
- 00:37:32for more than 15 years and these are
- 00:37:35some of the challenges we've heard from
- 00:37:37companies throughout that time
- 00:37:40um and Greg touched on this a little bit
- 00:37:42in his presentation that when it comes
- 00:37:46to sustainability
- 00:37:47there's so much out there that companies
- 00:37:50especially when they're just trying to
- 00:37:52get started have a really hard time
- 00:37:54prioritizing what's important and then
- 00:37:57partly because of that uh you know they
- 00:38:00have a hard time integrating those key
- 00:38:03issues into how they do business to
- 00:38:05really get the most value out of
- 00:38:07sustainability we always uh say there's
- 00:38:11a difference between kind of random acts
- 00:38:13of sustainability in an integrated
- 00:38:15approach into how into how you do
- 00:38:18business and when sustainability is
- 00:38:20really integrated what we've found is
- 00:38:22that that really helps companies not
- 00:38:25just you know meet the demands of their
- 00:38:27stakeholders kind of check the box but
- 00:38:29really take advantage of that
- 00:38:32opportunity to
- 00:38:34um maximize the potential of their
- 00:38:37company and to minimize risks and that's
- 00:38:38what Jesse talked about earlier right
- 00:38:41that as an organization we Define
- 00:38:43sustainability
- 00:38:45as a business growth strategy right to
- 00:38:48create long-term value and so when we've
- 00:38:52been interacting with companies over the
- 00:38:55course of many years uh you know we
- 00:38:58heard
- 00:39:06oh Christa I think you froze on me
- 00:39:16I'll give her a minute to come back
- 00:39:20um we're having internet issues today
- 00:39:22across the board aren't we so um I'm not
- 00:39:26sure it looks like she might have even
- 00:39:27got kicked out so I'll just pick up from
- 00:39:29here oh I got kicked all the way out and
- 00:39:33and then it just opened again so sorry
- 00:39:35about that we're back in some challenges
- 00:39:38today yeah all right then okay thanks
- 00:39:44all right
- 00:39:46um so we've heard companies you know say
- 00:39:49they have struggled to integrate
- 00:39:51sustainability get buy-in
- 00:39:54um you know navigate the costs related
- 00:39:56to that and then even once if they have
- 00:40:00buy-in they have they know what they
- 00:40:01want to work on they have trouble you
- 00:40:04know whether it's with internal
- 00:40:06resources or employee bandwidth uh
- 00:40:09knowing you know which disclosure
- 00:40:10framework to choose where to get started
- 00:40:13so in hearing all of that that's really
- 00:40:17um we wanted the Green Masters program
- 00:40:19to be a solution that addressed that so
- 00:40:22we developed this really as a full
- 00:40:26Define
- 00:40:27prioritize manage and improve a
- 00:40:29company's sustainability performance uh
- 00:40:32and across environmental social and
- 00:40:35governance topics and specifically those
- 00:40:37that are meaningful to your organization
- 00:40:39and stakeholders the Green Masters
- 00:40:41program allows companies to scope their
- 00:40:44disclosure or their assessment based on
- 00:40:47their priorities making it relevant to
- 00:40:49what they can realistically Infuse
- 00:40:52it's a comprehensive program uh
- 00:40:55including an assessment recognition and
- 00:40:58management tools help you in your
- 00:41:01business
- 00:41:02virtual platform fully customizable
- 00:41:05approach and scalable standard really to
- 00:41:08help guide your entire program so the
- 00:41:11grand Masters program covers
- 00:41:14across the topics
- 00:41:16um
- 00:41:17development of Management Systems
- 00:41:19integration of best practices and then
- 00:41:21performance improvements and So within
- 00:41:24that it really helps
- 00:41:27a company identify best practices
- 00:41:31uh identify ways where they can leverage
- 00:41:34the program and what's within the
- 00:41:36program not only to earn recognition but
- 00:41:38to act as a road map to help you
- 00:41:40prioritize your actions identify best
- 00:41:43practices and really achieve performance
- 00:41:45improvements and one of the things
- 00:41:46that's unique about the program is that
- 00:41:48it wraps a membership organization
- 00:41:50through wsvc around the Tool uh and
- 00:41:55through that you have access to
- 00:41:57peer-to-peer learning mentoring
- 00:41:58resources
- 00:42:00technical expertise training education
- 00:42:03tools just a slew of resources to
- 00:42:05support your journey
- 00:42:07next slide please study
- 00:42:10so Greg shared this
- 00:42:13in his slide again
- 00:42:17um and
- 00:42:19one of the things that I'm just going to
- 00:42:21adjust my view a little bit okay that's
- 00:42:24better uh so in the green master's
- 00:42:27program we follow the same outline that
- 00:42:31Greg uh defined when he talked about how
- 00:42:34we help companies establish
- 00:42:36um a strategic sustainability program
- 00:42:39right so it starts with assessing
- 00:42:41material topics setting your business
- 00:42:43priorities uh planning and embedding
- 00:42:46establishing metrics and goals executing
- 00:42:48evaluating and adjusting really follows
- 00:42:50that same plan you checked check act
- 00:42:52cycle to help companies create and
- 00:42:55follow a road map in establishing their
- 00:42:57sustainability programs next slide
- 00:42:59please let's see
- 00:43:01again the program covers 15 topics
- 00:43:06across four different categories so we
- 00:43:09have environment Society Workforce and
- 00:43:12governance and Leadership and I'm not
- 00:43:13going to go through each of these topics
- 00:43:16you can take a moment to review them
- 00:43:18here but what I want to point out is
- 00:43:20again in each one of these topics
- 00:43:22walk a company through how to develop
- 00:43:25Management Systems specific to that
- 00:43:28topic what metrics to track uh you know
- 00:43:31how to establish goals
- 00:43:34um you know normalizing factors what are
- 00:43:37best practices in that topic unique to
- 00:43:40that topic and then you know what would
- 00:43:43kpis for performance Improvement look
- 00:43:46like and so again this is where this
- 00:43:49program is really not only a recognition
- 00:43:51program but a tool to help companies get
- 00:43:54started in advance and sustainability
- 00:43:56next slide please Jesse
- 00:43:59the program starts with a materiality
- 00:44:02worksheet that helps companies kind of
- 00:44:04practically work through what's most
- 00:44:06material to their organization and
- 00:44:09stakeholders so for each topic addressed
- 00:44:11within the program companies rate the
- 00:44:15importance of that topic in terms of
- 00:44:17impact to their business and importance
- 00:44:19to their stakeholders Greg shared a
- 00:44:21little bit about what considerations go
- 00:44:24into that assessment that materiality
- 00:44:26assessment and then the Green Masters
- 00:44:29program offers a tool to help you work
- 00:44:31through that and document that next
- 00:44:33slide please sassy
- 00:44:36after completing that materiality
- 00:44:38worksheet participants can see their
- 00:44:40results reflected in a materiality
- 00:44:42matrix the way we read a materiality
- 00:44:45matrix is from top right to bottom left
- 00:44:49the graph visually demonstrates how
- 00:44:56high of a priority each topic is so
- 00:44:58along the y-axis we have importance to
- 00:45:00stakeholders along the x-axis we have
- 00:45:02Implement to your business so again on
- 00:45:06kind of that scale of one to ten you can
- 00:45:08see it's not right would be the highest
- 00:45:10priority both to your company and to
- 00:45:12your stakeholders and then as we move to
- 00:45:14the bottom left it would be less
- 00:45:15important
- 00:45:17so companies can use this visual aid to
- 00:45:20help select their priorities from the
- 00:45:23topics included in the program and then
- 00:45:25only those selected topics will be
- 00:45:27included in the company's assessment
- 00:45:29several companies just getting started
- 00:45:31in sustainability we recommend starting
- 00:45:33with your highest priority three to five
- 00:45:35topic and then kind of moving down that
- 00:45:38materiality Matrix to the bottom left
- 00:45:40and adding additional topics that are
- 00:45:42relevant to your organization and
- 00:45:44stakeholders as your program enfores and
- 00:45:47you can really integrate those topics
- 00:45:50into how you do business again as Craig
- 00:45:53said it's quality over quantity
- 00:45:57um and so over time as you really
- 00:45:59integrate those topics you could add
- 00:46:01additional priorities and then you can
- 00:46:04have quantity and quality over time next
- 00:46:08slide please
- 00:46:11so again only the topic selected will be
- 00:46:13included in an organization's assessment
- 00:46:15uh you'll be scored for each topic
- 00:46:18individually and then your overall score
- 00:46:21for the program will be based on the
- 00:46:24kind of cumulative score for all of the
- 00:46:27topics and that you included in your
- 00:46:29assessment next slide please Jesse
- 00:46:34so with that overall score uh you
- 00:46:39achieve a status within the grain
- 00:46:40Masters program so adapting advancing
- 00:46:43mentoring and green master are the
- 00:46:45fourth status levels that essentially
- 00:46:47aligns with quartiles so if you get 25
- 00:46:49of the available points in the topics
- 00:46:52you identified as material you'd be at
- 00:46:54adapting uh 25 to 50 would be advancing
- 00:46:5750 to 75 maturing and then over 75 would
- 00:47:00be a green master status
- 00:47:02and wsbc members are actually eligible
- 00:47:05for recognition within the program uh
- 00:47:08that align and that recognition will
- 00:47:10align with each of these status levels
- 00:47:12so again for companies just getting
- 00:47:14started in sustainability we recommend
- 00:47:16starting with three to five topics and
- 00:47:18that would make them eligible for the
- 00:47:20adapting status and then as a company's
- 00:47:23program grows and matures you can add
- 00:47:26additional topics allowing you to be
- 00:47:28eligible for higher levels of
- 00:47:29recognition we recognize that you know
- 00:47:33the industry that you're in will affect
- 00:47:35how many topics are priorities to you
- 00:47:38and which topics are priorities to you
- 00:47:40in addition to kind of your unique
- 00:47:42business situation so we offer General
- 00:47:44guidance around how many topics should
- 00:47:47be required to reach each one of these
- 00:47:49status levels both for manufacturing or
- 00:47:53heavy industrial users and then
- 00:47:54commercial or you know less intensive
- 00:47:59um less resource intensive participants
- 00:48:01as well so the grand Masters program
- 00:48:04really is something that appeals to any
- 00:48:07company of any size of any industry next
- 00:48:10slide please
- 00:48:12okay kind of benefits in the Green
- 00:48:14Masters program again we've kind of
- 00:48:16talked about this that it's a tool to
- 00:48:18prioritize uh Define prioritize and
- 00:48:21manage your company's performance
- 00:48:23specifically in the topics that are
- 00:48:25meaningful to you and your business and
- 00:48:27then through recognition uh you know it
- 00:48:30offers a third party Prudential to
- 00:48:32validate that your sustainability
- 00:48:35program really meets or exceeds
- 00:48:37internationally recognized standards so
- 00:48:39in develop in redeveloping the program
- 00:48:41we made sure that we aligned with
- 00:48:44a slew of widely used internationally
- 00:48:47recognized standards so that this tool
- 00:48:50could not only help a company really
- 00:48:52achieve success within wsbc in the green
- 00:48:56master's program but also beyond that
- 00:48:58right uh into a range of other standards
- 00:49:04that they may be either through
- 00:49:07regulation or customer requirements may
- 00:49:10be required to participate in the Green
- 00:49:13Masters program is going to help set you
- 00:49:14up for success in in those as well
- 00:49:18however you can also earn recognition as
- 00:49:21you grow your sustainability program and
- 00:49:23as a participant you can use the Green
- 00:49:25Masters program logo to help share your
- 00:49:28sustainability story and progress next
- 00:49:31slide please
- 00:49:33I won't go through all of these but
- 00:49:35again there's just a slew of benefits to
- 00:49:38participating in the Green Masters
- 00:49:39program from recognition to validation
- 00:49:43uh to learning
- 00:49:46um and a lot of these you'll see align
- 00:49:49with kind of the business case for
- 00:49:51sustainability and we were really
- 00:49:53intentional to make this a practical
- 00:49:56tool that companies across the board can
- 00:49:59benefit from and if you have any
- 00:50:01questions we're happy to answer them
- 00:50:04next slide please
- 00:50:06and with that if Greg is still available
- 00:50:09I can turn it over to Greg to talk about
- 00:50:12how we can support companies in their
- 00:50:16Journey
- 00:50:17that's what I am okay
- 00:50:22um
- 00:50:26so wmep really has uh
- 00:50:29an integrated Suite of Assessments and
- 00:50:32services that can help you if you start
- 00:50:34to look at things how you can grow
- 00:50:35organizationally we help companies find
- 00:50:37ways to reduce costs and increase their
- 00:50:39capacity
- 00:50:40the service line that I lead is you know
- 00:50:43helping you to be in compliance and and
- 00:50:46Achieve certifications to the alphabet
- 00:50:48soup of the ISO standards and improving
- 00:50:51quality but we also have and do a lot of
- 00:50:54work with clients on helping to maximize
- 00:50:56human talent and culture so really we're
- 00:50:58a well-rounded consulting firm that can
- 00:51:01provide those services at affordable
- 00:51:04costs for folks to be able to you know
- 00:51:07really help develop and then grow their
- 00:51:10businesses and we love to we love a
- 00:51:12challenge and you know help happy to
- 00:51:14work through our uh our status as uh as
- 00:51:18a non-profit to be able to to help you
- 00:51:20to realize your operational goals
- 00:51:26whether one of you want to speak to the
- 00:51:29um
- 00:51:30assessment
- 00:51:32um and how it aligns to the Green
- 00:51:34Masters at all or
- 00:51:39yeah so we developed a sustainability
- 00:51:42assessment that really
- 00:51:46helps you hit the ground running in the
- 00:51:48grand Masters program however even if
- 00:51:51you're not a participant in the Green
- 00:51:52Masters program it's designed to help
- 00:51:55you work through that materiality
- 00:51:58process with a perspective of you know
- 00:52:01what are your customers doing what are
- 00:52:03some of your competitors doing what are
- 00:52:05kind of the best practices and um
- 00:52:08standards in your industry that could
- 00:52:11impact you or that you should know about
- 00:52:13and align with what are the expectations
- 00:52:15out there of some of your key
- 00:52:16stakeholders we help you evaluate that
- 00:52:19sift through that and then identify the
- 00:52:22topics within environment society and
- 00:52:26governance that are material for your
- 00:52:29organization and then we help you
- 00:52:30prioritize those kind of based on this
- 00:52:33where you're at in your management
- 00:52:35journey to integrate those into your
- 00:52:37organization
- 00:52:39uh so it can be Standalone right if you
- 00:52:42just are trying to get started in
- 00:52:44sustainability you're not sure where to
- 00:52:45start if you have if you're getting some
- 00:52:48pressure from customers or other key
- 00:52:50stakeholders if you don't have the
- 00:52:52internal resources you know I saw a few
- 00:52:55of you say that you're kind of at you've
- 00:52:58done some projects and sustainability
- 00:53:00but
- 00:53:02you know you're not entirely sure where
- 00:53:04to go from here right or you need to
- 00:53:06integrate it across your business there
- 00:53:09was a big percentage of you uh and so
- 00:53:11the sustainability assessment is really
- 00:53:13designed to meet that need right to help
- 00:53:16you
- 00:53:17prioritize Focus build the business case
- 00:53:20for the topics that really matter to
- 00:53:23your organization and stakeholders and
- 00:53:25then we help you identify what are the
- 00:53:28next steps to accelerate program
- 00:53:31development and
- 00:53:34um performance Improvement in those key
- 00:53:37priority topics and then again should
- 00:53:40you choose to participate in the Green
- 00:53:42Masters program it fully aligns so you
- 00:53:45could take the deliverable from that
- 00:53:47assessment and fill out that materiality
- 00:53:50worksheet select your business
- 00:53:51priorities and we even can offer
- 00:53:54suggestions around which topics within
- 00:53:56Green Masters we would recommend
- 00:53:59um as a result of that assessment
- 00:54:01anything else you want to add to that
- 00:54:03Greg
- 00:54:05uh it's very thorough so but you know
- 00:54:08what
- 00:54:09not much to add there so great job
- 00:54:11Krista thanks thanks and then um also
- 00:54:14point out that for the 21st century
- 00:54:16Pathways program that's kind of for
- 00:54:18companies who have already gone down the
- 00:54:21road of sustainability a bit uh and this
- 00:54:25is one that can help
- 00:54:28um really take you to the next level in
- 00:54:32integrating sustainability into your
- 00:54:33business function so it's module-based
- 00:54:36coaching and your priority
- 00:54:37sustainability topics and again totally
- 00:54:40customizable to support your unique
- 00:54:42business priorities so it'd kind of be
- 00:54:44like the sustainability assessment would
- 00:54:45be if you're just getting started or
- 00:54:47don't know where it haven't selected
- 00:54:48your priorities 21st century Pathways is
- 00:54:51really great if you know what your
- 00:54:52priorities are but you need that that
- 00:54:55next step in how to integrate it into
- 00:54:57your business and specifically into your
- 00:54:59business strategy
- 00:55:03awesome
- 00:55:04um thanks to both of you uh so I know
- 00:55:09there's a few members out there so
- 00:55:11thanks for your support and
- 00:55:13participation
- 00:55:14um those of you who are not members I
- 00:55:16just wanted to speak briefly to our
- 00:55:18Member Program because the Green Masters
- 00:55:20program is a free tool to our members
- 00:55:22and membership is based on your
- 00:55:24organization size so we really try to
- 00:55:26make it cost effective because again our
- 00:55:28mission and vision is that all companies
- 00:55:31are organizing around sustainability so
- 00:55:33we want to make that really accessible
- 00:55:36um so just the key benefits of
- 00:55:37membership our education we do monthly
- 00:55:40webinars uh we do quarterly networking
- 00:55:44um we have lots of resources as Krista
- 00:55:47and Greg both mentioned we do
- 00:55:49peer-to-peer working groups
- 00:55:51um I'll talk about our annual conference
- 00:55:52real briefly in the next slide
- 00:55:54um so you get access to the Green
- 00:55:55Masters program but you also get access
- 00:55:58to this network of other
- 00:56:00business people in the state and out of
- 00:56:04the state working on sustainability so
- 00:56:08um we really kind of bring you together
- 00:56:09to help problem solve together you know
- 00:56:12we are a resource for you but we're also
- 00:56:14like you know one and a half people so
- 00:56:18um you know we really try to help bring
- 00:56:21you all together to collaborate and work
- 00:56:25together to solve these problems and
- 00:56:26then of course we love sharing your
- 00:56:28sustainability stories
- 00:56:30um to Our member base so with that said
- 00:56:32I want to invite you all to our annual
- 00:56:34conference this year it's November 16th
- 00:56:37um I'm sorry I didn't update this
- 00:56:39picture but kuna Mutual group is now
- 00:56:41true stage
- 00:56:43um so it's going to be how that tree
- 00:56:44stage in Madison and their beautiful new
- 00:56:46building and we're going to be talking a
- 00:56:49lot about the workforce we have a whole
- 00:56:51track on that
- 00:56:53um in terms of strategies that you can
- 00:56:55employ across your organization as well
- 00:56:58as like very specific data on what um
- 00:57:00employees are expecting of employers we
- 00:57:05also have a track on greenhouse gas
- 00:57:07management that's a huge topic for
- 00:57:08companies right now so lots of great
- 00:57:11information lots of ways to connect with
- 00:57:14your fellow sustainability-minded
- 00:57:18um folks across the state so that's in
- 00:57:21November registration likely wouldn't be
- 00:57:23open
- 00:57:25and then we also have an in-person tour
- 00:57:29coming up in Muskego Wisconsin in
- 00:57:31September so I wanted to make sure you
- 00:57:34all knew about that that's the
- 00:57:35sustainability sort of an action in Pro
- 00:57:38Corporation is in Muskego will be sort
- 00:57:41of doing a deep dive into the evolution
- 00:57:43of their sustainability program sort of
- 00:57:45the nuts and bolts of it and then we'll
- 00:57:47get to take a tour and walk around and
- 00:57:50see it all in action
- 00:57:52um and then they're generous enough to
- 00:57:54offer us some hors d'oeuvres and happy
- 00:57:55hour beverages if you want to stay until
- 00:57:57five o'clock so come join us learn more
- 00:58:01about what we do meet other members and
- 00:58:04we also have a lot more events we do
- 00:58:06monthly webinars so I didn't put those
- 00:58:08on there you could find those at our
- 00:58:10website which is Wisconsin
- 00:58:11sustainability.com just forward slash
- 00:58:14upcoming events that's how you can get
- 00:58:17and find out about the working group
- 00:58:18specific to Green Masters
- 00:58:21um and then wmep does less events than
- 00:58:23we do but they do lots of like
- 00:58:25supervisor skills and those sorts of
- 00:58:28things so you can learn about their
- 00:58:29events at wmap.org forward slash events
- 00:58:34um so I know we're close to time here I
- 00:58:36wanted to make sure to leave a little
- 00:58:37more time for questions so I apologize
- 00:58:39we don't have more time for that but
- 00:58:42um I can stay address any questions
- 00:58:43anybody has I will send out the
- 00:58:47recording once it's complete the
