    self-appointed guardians of the

    reputation of

    israel israel's law and israel's god

    they were zealous to protect the name

    of the holy god a most worthy ambition

    but as far as they were concerned jesus

    of nazareth was bringing shame

    on that name and thereby putting

    israel at the risk of losing god's

    these sinners and tax collectors members

    and anger because in their mind this

    israel's law and jesus is shaming the

    jesus responds to this accusation by

    telling the stories in luke 15.

    the second fact to keep in mind when we

    through these stories jesus is painting

    and we can trust the portrait

    he has lived in that heart from all

    heightens the scandal

    precipitating a crisis

    that leads to his crucifixion

    this tells us that we are not going to
