The video opens discussing the facade portrayed by individuals who maintain perfect outer appearances while harboring darker, harmful thoughts. This is illustrated by the fictional character played by Christian Bale in 'American Psycho', inspired by Tom Cruise's mannerisms. An interview clip shows Cruise making a joke about endangering his co-pilot's life, which some perceive as dark humor that points to a hidden side of Cruise.
- 00:05:00 - 00:10:00
The exploration of Tom Cruise's life continues with his troubled early years, marred by an abusive father and diagnosed dyslexia, leading to frequent relocations and a chaotic upbringing. Despite aspirations to become a Catholic priest, Cruise's time in religious institutions ended after youthful misadventures, leading him to an acting career where his work ethic and intensity caught Hollywood's attention.
- 00:10:00 - 00:15:00
As Tom Cruise's acting career blossomed with leading roles in films like 'Risky Business', his controlled yet intense demeanor was noteworthy. His career defining role came with the blockbuster 'Top Gun', which despite public success, was a time of personal struggle for Cruise due to his dyslexia. This struggle led to his introduction to Scientology, which he credited with overcoming his learning challenges.
- 00:15:00 - 00:20:00
The video outlines Scientology's foundations, rooted in L. Ron Hubbard's controversial life and teachings, particularly Dianetics, which Hubbard claimed as the cure-all for psychological ailments. Despite skepticism from the medical community, Hubbard's teachings expanded into the broader spiritual realm, claiming to unlock god-like potential, leading followers like Cruise to link their extraordinary abilities to Scientology's practices.
- 00:20:00 - 00:25:00
The auditing process in Scientology, depicted as an introspective and costly journey requiring electronic measurement of spiritual progress, is explained alongside its financial implications. It's suggested that these sessions are strategically designed to extract both personal secrets and significant funds from followers. The tone scale is also touched upon, a hierarchy within Scientology, shaping members' emotional self-perception.
- 00:25:00 - 00:30:00
The video delves into Tom Cruise's soaring career amidst his rising affiliation with Scientology. While Cruise remained private about his Scientology involvement, he frequently experienced blockbuster success. His noteworthy transition during this period included greater public alignment with the church, earning him a complex legacy intertwined with controversial Scientology principles.
- 00:30:00 - 00:35:00
Under David Miscavige's leadership, Scientology gained religious recognition in the U.S., significantly benefiting from tax-exempt status and high-profile recruits like Tom Cruise. The church’s financial practices, involving extensive fees through auditing and donations, are scrutinized, alongside labor practices that reportedly exploit followers for minimal compensation, fostering a controlled community environment.
- 00:35:00 - 00:40:00
The video describes the rigors of life in the Church of Scientology's Sea Org, where members are bound by strict regulations and minimal personal freedom, highlighting the church's extensive control mechanisms. Despite the church's claims of growth, criticisms and escape accounts from former members suggest a much different, more restrictive reality.
- 00:40:00 - 00:45:00
As Tom Cruise's career continued flourishing, his affiliations with Scientology reportedly influenced his personal relationships significantly. Allegations from insiders suggest the church played a role in both facilitating and dismantling his marriages, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman's concerns about the church's influence allegedly contributing to their split.
- 00:45:00 - 00:50:00
Katie Holmes, Cruise’s later wife, is portrayed as strategically trying to escape the church’s clutches for the sake of her and her daughter Suri’s freedom, planning her departure meticulously to ensure custody. Her actions highlight the extent of fear related to Scientology's reach and control over personal lives.
- 00:50:00 - 00:59:09
The video concludes with a broader reflection on Tom Cruise's legacy, questioning how much control he has or allows the church to have over his life. Whether he is a victim of brainwashing or a benefiting participant in the church's structures is left open-ended, inviting viewers to ponder the impact on his legacy and personal life.

- 00:01:06didn't like
- 00:01:08that however the actual interview that
- 00:01:10inspired the American Psycho character
- 00:01:13was this one with David Letterman where
- 00:01:15Tom Cruz laughed uncontrollably while
- 00:01:17telling the story of him cutting off his
- 00:01:20co-pilot's oxygen as they flew to
- 00:01:22dangerous altitude levels one time we
- 00:01:24were flying to Colorado and I was flying
- 00:01:27this airplane that we had to go on
- 00:01:28oxygen and the winds were better at a
- 00:01:30higher altitude so we climbed up and uh
- 00:01:33I realized that we couldn't stay at that
- 00:01:34altitude if uh on oxy I had to descend
- 00:01:38because I didn't have enough oxygen so I
- 00:01:40had a passenger in the back so we
- 00:01:42figured out you know me and the co-pilot
- 00:01:44that if we turn the oxygen off from the
- 00:01:46back guy that we could make it at this
- 00:01:50[Applause]
- 00:01:55altitude so you know it wasn't dangerous
- 00:01:59or anything
- 00:02:02no no what happened when he turned his
- 00:02:03oxygen off he felt he was very quiet he
- 00:02:06[Applause]
- 00:02:08felt Letterman didn't seem to think this
- 00:02:11story was as funny as Tom thought it
- 00:02:14was he fell asleep he fell
- 00:02:17[Music]
- 00:02:20asleep he slept the whole
- 00:02:24way well but uh you know he's the kind
- 00:02:28of guy you wanted to have him sleep the
- 00:02:29whole way you know I like just but but
- 00:02:31but honestly looking at it from another
- 00:02:32Direction isn't that a isn't that a
- 00:02:34tempted
- 00:02:36manslaughter just turn a guy's oxygen
- 00:02:39off you're lucky you're not doing time
- 00:02:42for the love of
- 00:02:44God woke up he did wake up yeah you know
- 00:02:47when we were landing on descent
- 00:02:51he as the passenger blacked out after
- 00:02:54being oxygen deprived for several
- 00:02:56minutes Tom finds it hysterical how
- 00:02:59confused the man was when he regained
- 00:03:01Consciousness feeling numb and
- 00:03:07disoriented he
- 00:03:14said my
- 00:03:22hand he said Shez my h
- 00:03:28[Applause]
- 00:03:29hands are your All
- 00:03:35Hands he said my hands are tingling I
- 00:03:38slept the whole person must have been
- 00:03:40the way I was
- 00:03:43letting now some people look at this as
- 00:03:45nothing more than dark humor the guy was
- 00:03:48fine it was just a harmless prank but
- 00:03:50maybe Christian Bale was actually on to
- 00:03:52something and no I'm not suggesting Tom
- 00:03:54Cruz is actually a Serial murderer or
- 00:03:57enjoys the suffering of others but he
- 00:03:59does have an obvious dark side one that
- 00:04:02seems to be ignored by the masses while
- 00:04:05they praise him for his box office hits
- 00:04:07and incredible stunts Tom credits
- 00:04:09Scientology as the reason why he is so
- 00:04:12successful Scientology is the quote
- 00:04:14unquote religion that thrives on forced
- 00:04:17labor signing its members to 1
- 00:04:19billion-year contracts having an alleged
- 00:04:22torture Camp called the whole among
- 00:04:24other horrible allegations from former
- 00:04:27members Tom is so dedicated to this
- 00:04:29religion he abandoned his own 7-year-old
- 00:04:32daughter and has not seen her in over a
- 00:04:35decade today we are going to Deep dive
- 00:04:37into the career of Tom Cruz and try to
- 00:04:40assess why he is so loyal to the shadowy
- 00:04:43world of
- 00:04:46Scientology Tom Cruz's life started out
- 00:04:48as an abused child who was desperate for
- 00:04:51a purpose Cruz has described his father
- 00:04:53as a merchant of chaos who was a bully
- 00:04:56and a coward for me it was like there's
- 00:04:59something wrong with this guy don't
- 00:05:00trust him be careful around him you can
- 00:05:02imagine that not being able to trust
- 00:05:04your own father when you are a toddler
- 00:05:07created a difficult and chaotic
- 00:05:09environment for Cruz additionally when
- 00:05:11Cruz was 7 years old he was diagnosed
- 00:05:13with dyslexia which made him feel even
- 00:05:16more isolated and Confused his father
- 00:05:18could never hold a steady job which led
- 00:05:20to the family moving often they moved
- 00:05:22from Syracuse New York to Ottawa Canada
- 00:05:25in 1971 when Tom was in third grade by
- 00:05:28the sixth grade his parents got divorced
- 00:05:30and his mother moved Tom and his sisters
- 00:05:32down to Louisville Kentucky according to
- 00:05:34Shane demper a friend that went to
- 00:05:36school with Tom in Louisville Tom was
- 00:05:38interested in becoming a Catholic priest
- 00:05:40he had a very strong Catholic faith
- 00:05:42Templer said we went to mass spent time
- 00:05:45in the chapel and enjoyed hearing
- 00:05:46stories from the priests we thought the
- 00:05:48priests had a great lifestyle and we
- 00:05:50were really interested in priesthood
- 00:05:52unfortunately the boys were kicked out
- 00:05:54of the school after they were caught
- 00:05:55stealing alcohol and drinking in the
- 00:05:57woods Shane recalled the school wrote a
- 00:06:00letter to our parents saying they liked
- 00:06:01us both but would prefer if we didn't
- 00:06:04return so we weren't kicked out just
- 00:06:06preferred not to go from there Tom
- 00:06:08relocated to another Seminary School in
- 00:06:10Cincinnati Ohio after being recommended
- 00:06:12by a local priest Tom was instantly
- 00:06:15hooked said father Rich Schneider who
- 00:06:17gave the speech that brought Cruz to
- 00:06:19Seminary school I think he wanted a good
- 00:06:21education with his parents going through
- 00:06:23a divorce it was tough on him that's
- 00:06:25maybe one of the reasons why he came
- 00:06:26here his time in Cincinnati did not last
- 00:06:29long as his family would ultimately
- 00:06:30relocate again to Glenn Ridge New Jersey
- 00:06:33where he finished high school after
- 00:06:34graduation Tom knew acting was his
- 00:06:36future within his first year of
- 00:06:38auditioning for various Hollywood roles
- 00:06:40he landed a small part in a film called
- 00:06:42Endless Love Tom's handsome look and
- 00:06:45physique made him stand out amongst his
- 00:06:47peers which got him an ancillary role in
- 00:06:49the film Taps as a novice in the
- 00:06:51industry he wanted to learn everything
- 00:06:53there was to learn about Cinema first
- 00:06:55film that I really got on which was Taps
- 00:06:58I went to every single department and I

- 00:07:13department does props sound I studied
- 00:07:16every aspect of film Tom was obsessed
- 00:07:19his work ethic gave Hollywood producers
- 00:07:20even more of a reason to invest in him
- 00:07:22he earned another ancillary role in The
- 00:07:24Outsiders before securing his first lead
- 00:07:27role in the 1983 hit Risky Business

- 00:11:35I wanted to learn but I knew I had
- 00:11:36failed in the system in 1986 the year
- 00:11:39Top Gun came out I became a
- 00:11:41Scientologist A friend gave me a picture
- 00:11:43book on Scientology and through this I
- 00:11:45was introduced to the writings of elron
- 00:11:47hubard who had founded the religion Mr
- 00:11:50hubard was also an educator who had been
- 00:11:52researching the field for decades he had
- 00:11:54found that literacy and comprehension
- 00:11:56levels were declining worldwide so in
- 00:11:58the 19 1960s he had developed study

- 00:12:03to learning lack of mass you can't learn
- 00:12:05to fly a plane by just reading about it

- 00:12:20once I started focusing on those

- 00:12:24credit Scientology with helping him

- 00:12:42legacy as a whole Scientology is a
- 00:12:45religion that many consider to be a cult
- 00:12:48created by science fiction writer El Ron
- 00:12:51hubard according to the Church of
- 00:12:52Scientology Ron was a highly trained
- 00:12:55Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy who
- 00:12:57became a war hero that sunk a Japanese
- 00:13:00submarine as well as a purple heart
- 00:13:02Award winner due to suffering blinding
- 00:13:04and crippling injuries through the
- 00:13:06course of combat in the second world war
- 00:13:09one medical report describes hubard as
- 00:13:11suffering a severe bone infection in the
- 00:13:13hip and back forcing him to walk with a
- 00:13:15cane another shows his vision registered
- 00:13:18at 2100 which according to Medical
- 00:13:20review meant that he could not
- 00:13:22distinguish facial features until 3 or 4
- 00:13:24ft away could not make out a street sign
- 00:13:27Beyond 10 yards and could not read a new
- 00:13:29newspaper whereas the official US Navy
- 00:13:31documents say that he was not qualified
- 00:13:33to be a lieutenant commander he never
- 00:13:35received a Purple Heart categorized his
- 00:13:37injuries as being exposed to light for
- 00:13:40too long and spraining his ankle to
- 00:13:42which they prescribed him dark glasses
- 00:13:44and declared him ready for Duty as well
- 00:13:46as analyzed all potential evidence
- 00:13:48surrounding him sinking a Japanese ship
- 00:13:50only for them to find that there was no
- 00:13:52submarine in the area at the time due to
- 00:13:54the conflicting information we don't
- 00:13:56really know the truth about his time
- 00:13:57spent in the military what we do know is
- 00:14:00that he was an incredibly proficient and
- 00:14:02fast writer hubard holds the Guinness
- 00:14:04world record for the most published
- 00:14:06works by one author Battlefield Earth to
- 00:14:09the Stars when Shadows Fall typewriter
- 00:14:12in the sky are just a few of his fantasy
- 00:14:14alternate World fiction stories although
- 00:14:17he published books at an incredible rate
- 00:14:19there seems to be a quantity over
- 00:14:21quality issue because he was never able
- 00:14:23to make a financial living off of his
- 00:14:25work there have been extensive studies
- 00:14:27and multiple sources that have
- 00:14:29corroborated this elron Hub quote he
- 00:14:32told us that writing science fiction for
- 00:14:34about a penny a word was no way to make
- 00:14:36a living if you really want to make a
- 00:14:37million he said the quickest way is to
- 00:14:40start your own religion if this quote is
- 00:14:43true that would insist that a science
- 00:14:45fiction writer came up with a silly idea
- 00:14:47for a religion to get rich and people
- 00:14:50happen to buy into it as hubard
- 00:14:52struggled to sell his books and begged
- 00:14:54the veterans association to increase his
- 00:14:56monthly allowance so he could pay his
- 00:14:58bills he began developing his next big
- 00:15:01book dianic the modern science of mental
- 00:15:04health Dione is one of the fundamental
- 00:15:06pillars of Scientology that is still
- 00:15:08practiced to this day nearly 75 years
- 00:15:11later since there was very little to no
- 00:15:13attention on the importance of
- 00:15:15maintaining positive mental health in
- 00:15:16the 1950s the book became popular
- 00:15:19quickly selling over 150,000 copies in
- 00:15:21its first year earning hubard over a
- 00:15:24million dollar however hubard system
- 00:15:26faced a lot of criticism from doctors
- 00:15:29psychologists they say he lacked
- 00:15:31scientific evidence and empirical data
- 00:15:33and he was using pseudo scientific
- 00:15:35Concepts to prove his nonsensical ideas
- 00:15:38but then hubard played the conspiracy
- 00:15:40card he convinced his followers that the
- 00:15:42only reason actual scientists didn't
- 00:15:44agree with his teachings was because
- 00:15:47psychologists pharmaceutical companies
- 00:15:49and the medical industry as a whole
- 00:15:50would lose billions of dollars if they
- 00:15:53acknowledge that dianic was the cure for
- 00:15:55all psychological pain additionally
- 00:15:58hubard started to expand dianic into a
- 00:16:01broader spiritual belief system which
- 00:16:03eventually led to the creation of
- 00:16:05Scientology in 1953 hubard did not
- 00:16:08complete his college education nor did
- 00:16:10he spend years studying any field of
- 00:16:12medicine or health whatsoever but he
- 00:16:15does claim that he cured himself from
- 00:16:17arthritis btis blindness ulcers and even
- 00:16:20the common cold and he was able to do
- 00:16:23that through diic diic Theory describes
- 00:16:26the human mind as two parts the
- 00:16:29conscious analytical mind and the
- 00:16:31subconscious reactive mind huard's
- 00:16:33beliefs were very similar to Sigman
- 00:16:35Freud's theory of the unconscious mind
- 00:16:38and his understanding of how suppressed
- 00:16:39memories can shape an individual's
- 00:16:41behavior however in hub's Theory all
- 00:16:44psychological pain and the mental and
- 00:16:46physical health problems that come from
- 00:16:48that were a form of memory known as
- 00:16:50engrams which are stored in the reactive
- 00:16:53mind while dianic focused on improving
- 00:16:55the Mind Scientology took things further
- 00:16:58by introd producing the idea of the
- 00:17:00thetan an immortal spiritual being that
- 00:17:03lives inside every person Hub believed
- 00:17:05that each person is actually a thetan
- 00:17:08with Limitless potential but this
- 00:17:09potential is blocked by negative
- 00:17:11experiences or engrams that have built
- 00:17:14up over many lifetimes Scientology
- 00:17:17therefore became a way to free the
- 00:17:19thetan from these engrams allowing the
- 00:17:21person to achieve spiritual freedom and
- 00:17:23reach their full potential this process
- 00:17:26is known as going clear which is the
- 00:17:28ultimate goal of someone practicing diic
- 00:17:31once someone goes clear they can then
- 00:17:33move on to higher levels of spiritual
- 00:17:35awareness and power known as the
- 00:17:38operating thetan levels these levels are
- 00:17:40supposed to give the person more control
- 00:17:42over themselves and the world around
- 00:17:44them Powers such as telepathy
- 00:17:46exteriorization which is the ability to
- 00:17:48separate from the body with full
- 00:17:50perception Telekinesis the ability to
- 00:17:53move objects with thought where most
- 00:17:55religions focus on a servitude towards a
- 00:17:57God or a higher power Scientology kind
- 00:18:00of does the exact opposite and although
- 00:18:02they don't say it specifically they
- 00:18:04essentially believe that they are gods
- 00:18:06or that they can become Gods Tom Cruz is
- 00:18:08known for reaching extraordinary levels
- 00:18:11of Human Excellence such as learning how
- 00:18:13to become a fighter pilot or climbing
- 00:18:15the tallest building in the world
- 00:18:17without any sort of harness or rope
- 00:18:19among his endless list of other
- 00:18:22incredible stunts he has performed it's
- 00:18:24safe to assume that Tom Cruz believes
- 00:18:26that going clear has allowed him to
- 00:18:28accomplish these incredible Feats
- 00:18:31however the process of going clear is
- 00:18:33pretty intense and also costs a lot of
- 00:18:35money to go clear a trained auditor
- 00:18:38helps a person go through their past
- 00:18:40experiences to find and deal with the
- 00:18:42engrams that are holding them back this
- 00:18:45process often involves using something
- 00:18:47called an e- meter a device that
- 00:18:49measures the electrical resistance of
- 00:18:51the skin which is believed to show the
- 00:18:52presence of engrams Auditors use the eer
- 00:18:56to track a person's progress and help
- 00:18:58them find and resolve deep rooted
- 00:19:00negative experiences a person during an
- 00:19:02auditing session would be instructed to
- 00:19:04hold two metal cylinders connected to
- 00:19:07the eer which sends a small electrical
- 00:19:09current through their body the eer then
- 00:19:11measures changes in the electrical
- 00:19:13resistance which scientologists believe
- 00:19:15show changes in the person's mental and
- 00:19:17spiritual State the auditor uses these
- 00:19:20readings to guide the person through
- 00:19:21questions but these questions that they
- 00:19:23ask are often very leading and intended
- 00:19:26to poke and prod at the deepest darkest
- 00:19:28SE Secrets held in your mind and soul
- 00:19:30when you learn about how these auditing
- 00:19:32sessions are done and the types of
- 00:19:34questions that they ask you'll see how
- 00:19:35it almost comes off like an
- 00:19:37interrogation or a way to give personal
- 00:19:39information to an organization that
- 00:19:41could be potentially later used against
- 00:19:44you yeah so here's even how just how a
- 00:19:46Scientology auditor believes it works
- 00:19:48you're holding the cans there's a tiny
- 00:19:49little battery in that emor that's
- 00:19:50sending you're completing the circuit
- 00:19:52when you pick up the cans right so you
- 00:19:53got a little thing going there and that
- 00:19:56needle will respond to your physical
- 00:19:58movement but that's not what we want and
- 00:20:00I'm going to go is there's something
- 00:20:01you're withholding from me and what I'm
- 00:20:03looking for is right when I say at the
- 00:20:04end of me I'm looking for the needle to
- 00:20:06dip to the right so I'll give you a
- 00:20:07really good example of this so you're
- 00:20:11holding the cans say is there anything
- 00:20:13you're withholding from me and I get an
- 00:20:15instant read and I go is there anything
- 00:20:18you're withholding for me you're going
- 00:20:19to go I don't think so and I don't see
- 00:20:21the needle no you don't see the needle
- 00:20:23okay I go well what did you think of
- 00:20:26when I asked you the question okay so
- 00:20:27you're going to go I don't know what I
- 00:20:28was thinking enough and then I'm going
- 00:20:29to be like you know take a look and I'll
- 00:20:31help you out here I'll try to steer you
- 00:20:33okay so I'm looking to get roughly the
- 00:20:35same read while you're thinking about
- 00:20:37whatever I'm what was that what was that
- 00:20:39right there and you can start digging to
- 00:20:41what you can start I just want an answer
- 00:20:43to the question okay and I can go to
- 00:20:45memory yeah and you can give me any
- 00:20:48answer you want there's no way for me to
- 00:20:49know if you're giving me the right
- 00:20:50answer but I want you to give me
- 00:20:51something yeah if you say you can't give
- 00:20:53me anything I'm going to keep using the
- 00:20:54Emer until you give me something yeah
- 00:20:56okay so let's say you give me something
- 00:20:58I'm going to get all the details about
- 00:20:59that and until like time place form an
- 00:21:02event I want to know everything that
- 00:21:03happened I want to know all the details
- 00:21:04and by the way I'm writing all this down
- 00:21:05so I'm taking notes of everything you're
- 00:21:07telling me that it's bad thing that you
- 00:21:08did that you haven't told me about okay
- 00:21:10so I'm keeping notes when you represent
- 00:21:12to me that you've told me everything
- 00:21:13there is to tell I'm looking for the
- 00:21:16needle to give like a smooth back and
- 00:21:18forth motion like this and Scientology
- 00:21:21calls that a floating needle that means
- 00:21:23in Scientology land we're done with that
- 00:21:26now many people argue that the eer is
- 00:21:28not exactly scientifically proven to
- 00:21:30really do anything it does measure some
- 00:21:32sort of electrical current that takes
- 00:21:34place in your body and mind and it is
- 00:21:36somehow connected but we can't prove
- 00:21:39that it indicates anything about mental
- 00:21:41health or your physical or emotional
- 00:21:43well-being many people look at it as
- 00:21:45nothing more than hypnosis and many
- 00:21:47believe that the auditing process is
- 00:21:49strategically designed to make people
- 00:21:51think that it's actually doing something
- 00:21:53positive in their life being a victim is
- 00:21:56despised in Scientology because of
- 00:21:59something called the tone scale the tone
- 00:22:01scale is sort of an emotional ranking of
- 00:22:03a person and it goes from minus 40 to 40
- 00:22:08now zero is death and 0.1 is victim it
- 00:22:13is seen as a bad thing to even feel any
- 00:22:16negative emotions in Scientology because
- 00:22:19scientologists believe that if bad
- 00:22:21things happen to you is because you have
- 00:22:23done something bad to deserve it it all
- 00:22:26felt like emotional torture yeah so you
- 00:22:29can see how this is kind of a dangerous
- 00:22:30gray area on one hand the goal of the
- 00:22:33therapy sessions is for you to feel
- 00:22:36better for you to cope with all of your
- 00:22:39past trauma and your negativity and for
- 00:22:41that to then release and have positive
- 00:22:44ramifications on your life then the
- 00:22:46other hand is like well no you're not
- 00:22:48actually solving these problems you're
- 00:22:50just being tricked into thinking that
- 00:22:52you're solving these problems and then
- 00:22:54you have to pay for more auditing
- 00:22:56sessions for you to keep solving these
- 00:22:58problems and we'll go deeper into the
- 00:23:00financial component of all of this in a
- 00:23:01minute but in the late ' 80s and early
- 00:23:03'90s Tom Cruz wasn't overtly public
- 00:23:06about his Scientology ties as he was
- 00:23:08still growing his career after Top Gun
- 00:23:11he continued to have an incredible run
- 00:23:12in Hollywood The Color of Money cocktail
- 00:23:15Rainman Days of Thunder A Few Good Men
- 00:23:17The Firm hit after hit after hit
- 00:23:20everything that Tom Cruz starred in was
- 00:23:22a box office Smash in 1988 he was the
- 00:23:26highest grossing box office star and to
- 00:23:28this day he is the number six highest
- 00:23:31grossing actor of all time with a
- 00:23:33combined total of $ 122 billion
- 00:23:35generated he was a convincing leading
- 00:23:37man who does all of his own stunts he
- 00:23:40had near perfect looks on set he was
- 00:23:42known to be honest humble and a genuine
- 00:23:44person he was considered by many to be
- 00:23:47the perfect human yet somehow still very
- 00:23:50mysterious you've got one of the nicest
- 00:23:53reputations in Hollywood I mean everyone
- 00:23:56who interviews you says hands down you
- 00:23:58are polite and giving but I've
- 00:24:03interviewed you a lot of times and you
- 00:24:06don't let people real
- 00:24:09close how
- 00:24:11come I think I'm letting you pretty
- 00:24:13close
- 00:24:14ler do you do you feel like you hold
- 00:24:17something back or you protect
- 00:24:19[Music]
- 00:24:21something
- 00:24:25uh yeah I mean you know you uh
- 00:24:29you know I'm doing this you know to help
- 00:24:34promote the films I mean I really don't
- 00:24:36hold back that much I mean you ask me
- 00:24:38anything but I mean there is a certain
- 00:24:39you know you want to certain things that
- 00:24:42I really don't want to talk about and
- 00:24:44certain things that really aren't
- 00:24:45important you know for uh aren't
- 00:24:48important for people to hear and I
- 00:24:51really don't even think they want to
- 00:24:52hear in the early 90s Tom began speaking
- 00:24:54about the Church of Scientology more
- 00:24:56publicly Tom let me try to understand
- 00:24:58the Church of
- 00:25:01Scientology is this something that feed
- 00:25:04you spiritually or is it a technique
- 00:25:07that just helps your mind is it a
- 00:25:10religion yeah I mean by definition it is
- 00:25:12a religion and is it for you does it
- 00:25:14help you in a spiritual way yeah but the
- 00:25:16thing is is that it's not a matter of
- 00:25:17being fed something and it is not
- 00:25:21someone telling you how to live your
- 00:25:23life it is not
- 00:25:24someone feeding you what is what is real
- 00:25:28for them it is what is real for you it
- 00:25:30is a
- 00:25:32self exploration does it bother you that
- 00:25:35it is considered so controversial that
- 00:25:37it is considered a cult that it has been
- 00:25:40investigated I'm not telling you
- 00:25:41anything you don't
- 00:25:42know no it doesn't I I for me I don't
- 00:25:46care it doesn't affect me at all it I
- 00:25:50doesn't matter to me whatever anybody
- 00:25:52thinks or what they don't know it's I
- 00:25:55know what I know he still seemed to be
- 00:25:57reserved not willing to go into immense
- 00:25:59detail about how the church functions
- 00:26:02and his role in it in 1986 elron hubber
- 00:26:05died and David miscavage was named
- 00:26:07chairman of the board or the leader of
- 00:26:09Scientology in 1987 at 2,000 hours
- 00:26:14Friday the 24th of January ad. 36 elron
- 00:26:19hubard discarded the body he had used in
- 00:26:21this lifetime for 74 years 10 months and
- 00:26:2611 days the body he had used to
- 00:26:29facilitate his existence in this mess
- 00:26:32Universe had ceased to be useful and in
- 00:26:35fact had become an impediment to the
- 00:26:38work he now must do outside of its
- 00:26:40confines in 1993 Scientology became a
- 00:26:43recognized religion in the United States
- 00:26:46which dramatically increased its
- 00:26:48legitimacy for many years the IRS
- 00:26:50refused to Grant Scientology this status
- 00:26:53because of the concerns about its
- 00:26:54Financial practices and whether it was
- 00:26:56really qualified as a religious the
- 00:26:58Church of Scientology fought back by
- 00:27:00filing many lawsuits against the IRS and
- 00:27:03reportedly harassed IRS officials
- 00:27:05finally in 1993 after years of conflict
- 00:27:08the IRS granted Scientology taxed exempt
- 00:27:11status recognizing it as a religious
- 00:27:13organization this decision was highly
- 00:27:15controversial and led to widespread
- 00:27:17criticism with many people believing
- 00:27:19that the IRS had been pressured into
- 00:27:21making the decision and as you'll learn
- 00:27:23in a bit scientologists go to extreme
- 00:27:25lengths to gather sensitive information
- 00:27:27about others many speculate that they
- 00:27:30pressured blackmailed and threatened to
- 00:27:32expose government officials until they
- 00:27:34were granted tax exempt status but
- 00:27:37that's all conspiracy this status
- 00:27:39allowed Scientology to operate as a
- 00:27:42nonprofit which means it doesn't have to
- 00:27:43pay federal income taxes nor property
- 00:27:46taxes and has allowed them to accumulate
- 00:27:48massive wealth it is estimated that the
- 00:27:50church has generated between $1 and3
- 00:27:53billion but how did they get that money
- 00:27:56well first of all donating money to a
- 00:27:58church or a religion is very common
- 00:28:00Scientology happens to strategically
- 00:28:03recruit members of mass wealth
- 00:28:05celebrities Hollywood Superstars so it's
- 00:28:08safe to assume that those people are
- 00:28:09donating potentially millions of dollars
- 00:28:12however the auditing sessions are also
- 00:28:15very costly remember the main goal or
- 00:28:17the point of being a Scientologist is to
- 00:28:20go clear however there are levels or
- 00:28:23goals that you essentially rank up to
- 00:28:25along the way these are called operating
- 00:28:27Theta levels or OT levels which are the
- 00:28:30goals that you hit before reaching the
- 00:28:33bridge to total freedom each spiritual
- 00:28:35level has an estimated real cost that it
- 00:28:38would take to reach it costs can vary
- 00:28:40considerably depending on the needs of
- 00:28:42the individual but it is speculated that
- 00:28:44somebody would be paying well over
- 00:28:46$100,000 into potentially half a million
- 00:28:49dollars in auditing sessions to reach
- 00:28:51clear finish a course or an auditing
- 00:28:53action you're not allowed to finish it
- 00:28:56until you write up a a success story on
- 00:28:59how great it was and how it changed your
- 00:29:00life and how you would want other people
- 00:29:02to have that now if you're like eh I I'm
- 00:29:04not really feeling it you're like oh
- 00:29:07you're not we're going to have to go
- 00:29:08back and see what's wrong with with your
- 00:29:10last level and that cost you more money
- 00:29:12hop on the on the laot me machine my
- 00:29:14friend the beatings will continue until
- 00:29:16morale improves but you get to a point
- 00:29:18where it literally costs you more money
- 00:29:21to say that that thing didn't give you
- 00:29:23exactly what you hoped it would so you
- 00:29:26you're trained to lie to yourself
- 00:29:28that's crazy just to save just to save
- 00:29:30money and then you get up and you lie to
- 00:29:32everyone else to get them to to do it as
- 00:29:34well you can also pay money in advance
- 00:29:36to the church for them to hold it and
- 00:29:38keep it as almost like a bank account
- 00:29:40for auditing sessions in your next life
- 00:29:43they're good people and they're being
- 00:29:44defrauded out of their life savings I
- 00:29:47mean it costs a quarter of a million
- 00:29:49dollars easy to be assign to people
- 00:29:52though that like aren't like who don't
- 00:29:54have a lot of money how do people afford
- 00:29:55that that's the thing it's amazing it it
- 00:29:57shows you the ability of someone who who
- 00:29:59has a a belief and a faith that they're
- 00:30:02doing amazing things they work to pay
- 00:30:04for their religion they live below their
- 00:30:07means to pay for their religion it is
- 00:30:10impossible to advance in the religion
- 00:30:11without completing the required courses
- 00:30:14and auditing sessions no other modern
- 00:30:16religion with a congregation size
- 00:30:18comparable to that of the Church of
- 00:30:19Scientology mandates recurring payments
- 00:30:22to merely participate yet scientology's
- 00:30:25entire foundation and religious ideology
- 00:30:28is built upon these required payments
- 00:30:30from parishioners Additionally the
- 00:30:32Church of Scientology saves an enormous
- 00:30:34amount of money in labor costs because
- 00:30:36they pay their employees or volunteers
- 00:30:39next to nothing a mere $50 per week
- 00:30:41stipended however many of them are okay
- 00:30:44with this form of payment as they have
- 00:30:45become fully dependent on the Church of
- 00:30:47Scientology in every aspect of their
- 00:30:49lives the C organization is the most
- 00:30:52dedicated version the most dedicated
- 00:30:53brand of scientologists so there's three
- 00:30:57like s galons of scientologists there's
- 00:31:00public who just live normal lives in the
- 00:31:02real world and they pay to do
- 00:31:04Scientology courses and auditing then
- 00:31:06there's staff members who also live in
- 00:31:08the real world uh but work on two and a
- 00:31:11half year contracts or fiveyear
- 00:31:13contracts at their local Scientology
- 00:31:14organization and then once they finish
- 00:31:15their contract their their debt is paid
- 00:31:17or whatever and then there's the seor
- 00:31:19members these are the guys who signed
- 00:31:20the billion-year contracts they don't
- 00:31:23have lives in the outside world they
- 00:31:24don't own property they live in
- 00:31:26Scientology provided housing they eat
- 00:31:27scient they eaten Scientology run
- 00:31:29cafeteria is there an actual contract
- 00:31:31that says a billion years it's symbolic
- 00:31:33but yes okay like no it's not illegally
- 00:31:35enforceable contract according to elron
- 00:31:37hubard the Sea org initially operated on
- 00:31:40three real ships the Diana the Athena
- 00:31:43and the Apollo which hubard used to
- 00:31:45spread the teachings of his new religion
- 00:31:47according to hubard much of the Galaxy
- 00:31:49including Earth was ruled tens of
- 00:31:51millions of years ago by the galactic
- 00:31:53Confederacy controlled by a tyrant named
- 00:31:56zenu zenu was eventually overthrown by a
- 00:31:59group with the Confederacy known as the
- 00:32:01loyal officers and SE org is modeled
- 00:32:04after these loyal officers seaorg
- 00:32:06members are considered the most
- 00:32:07dedicated scientologists signing 1
- 00:32:10billion-year contracts to serve the
- 00:32:12church across multiple lifetimes many
- 00:32:15join at a young age some even as
- 00:32:17children and endure a rigorous lifestyle
- 00:32:19that includes up to 100h hour work weeks
- 00:32:22strict discipline and a $50 per week
- 00:32:24wage they do not have relationships or
- 00:32:27communication with the outside world
- 00:32:28they are not allowed to have children
- 00:32:30they eat sleep and breathe solely for
- 00:32:32the purpose of Scientology they do
- 00:32:34normal jobs just like any other business
- 00:32:37but they are assigned to them like a
- 00:32:38military post you have the treasury
- 00:32:40which consists of people who receive
- 00:32:42collect and invoice money pay bills
- 00:32:44manage assets you also have sales
- 00:32:46representatives who get people to sign
- 00:32:48up for the religion you have promotional
- 00:32:50team who sends out flyers emails and
- 00:32:52advertisements for the church you also
- 00:32:54have Auditors and the people who train
- 00:32:57the auditors and the people who monitor
- 00:32:59the people who are training the Auditors
- 00:33:01and then the people who get members to
- 00:33:02pay for the auditing sessions and
- 00:33:04constantly pester members to sign up for
- 00:33:06more auditing sessions if any and I mean
- 00:33:09any task no matter how small it is that
- 00:33:11they were assigned to get done is not
- 00:33:13done by the end of the day they will not
- 00:33:15stop working whether your task is to
- 00:33:17organize thousands of files by hand or
- 00:33:20sign someone up for an auditing session
- 00:33:22or merely just dust the floor if the
- 00:33:25task is not done you don't stop working
- 00:33:27in 1975 seaorg transitioned to landbased
- 00:33:31operations by 2000 the number of seaorg
- 00:33:33members was estimated at around 5800
- 00:33:36most members now live in church
- 00:33:38complexes around the world including
- 00:33:40locations in Los Angeles Florida
- 00:33:42Copenhagen London and Sydney with some
- 00:33:44assigned to smaller centers or acting as
- 00:33:46missionaries and still to this day there
- 00:33:49are many people that live and work on
- 00:33:50the sea organization motor vessel free
- 00:33:53winds Scientology reports that they have
- 00:33:55millions of members worldwide and that
- 00:33:57that is this rapidly growing religion
- 00:34:00that people love but most of these
- 00:34:01buildings are vastly empty and it seems
- 00:34:04like they really don't have that many
- 00:34:06members potentially in the ballpark of
- 00:34:0840,000 people there are countless
- 00:34:10stories of former members who have
- 00:34:12escaped Scientology who have often
- 00:34:14described themselves as being trapped in
- 00:34:17a cult Leah Remy is an actress and
- 00:34:19former Scientologist who escaped and has
- 00:34:21dedicated a good part of her life to
- 00:34:23expose the horrors of Life as a member
- 00:34:25we have heard stories of Mind Control to
- 00:34:28force labor to seual assault and abuse
- 00:34:31to a secret prison camp called the hole
- 00:34:33where disgraced members of the church
- 00:34:35are sent to effectively be tortured
- 00:34:38describe it
- 00:34:39for um it had bars on the windows and
- 00:34:43the one entrance was guarded by security
- 00:34:4624 hours a day the the hole basically
- 00:34:49was some kind of a slang term that had
- 00:34:52been coined long before I got there and
- 00:34:56um uh it was where you actually you ate
- 00:35:01there you slept there on the floor
- 00:35:05um and you know you never left with the
- 00:35:08exception of a brief grade to go take
- 00:35:10shower from when you say slept there on
- 00:35:12the floor did you have or bunks or
- 00:35:15some kind of beds no you you slept in a
- 00:35:19you give a sleeping bag you slept on FL
- 00:35:22sleep and what were the conditions like
- 00:35:25on the on the floor to sleep
- 00:35:28well there were um ants the place was
- 00:35:30infested by ants so ants would crawl on
- 00:35:32you and there was a a a 2 we period
- 00:35:36during that time when all the
- 00:35:38electricity had been shut
- 00:35:40off um as ordered by Mr mavage and this
- 00:35:44was of course in summer in the desert
- 00:35:48and so the temperature in there was
- 00:35:52about6 why didn't you
- 00:35:55just take off and get away away from the
- 00:35:58hole not possible absolutely not
- 00:36:01physically possible couldn't make it
- 00:36:03past security the the windows were
- 00:36:06barred um right from the beginning when
- 00:36:10I went in I I obviously was trying to
- 00:36:13figure out plotting how to how to get
- 00:36:16out were you used to in your life
- 00:36:19getting beaten up was that something you
- 00:36:21were used to no never and you were a 40s
- 00:36:28something year old woman with a very
- 00:36:31very respected
- 00:36:35job any and all accusations of major or
- 00:36:39minor misconduct within the church has
- 00:36:42been vonly denied they have never been
- 00:36:44tried or found guilty of committing any
- 00:36:47sort of crime however one form of
- 00:36:49Justice they did admit to doing is
- 00:36:51called overboarding which in the days of
- 00:36:53elron hubard sailing the Mediterranean
- 00:36:56and his Fleet of ships consisted of
- 00:36:58throwing members off the ship into the
- 00:36:59ocean according to author Janet wman the
- 00:37:02modern version of this Justice consisted
- 00:37:05of going out doors in the middle of the
- 00:37:06night and assembling at the bases
- 00:37:08swimming pool or its muddy Lake members
- 00:37:10would then jump or be pushed into the
- 00:37:12water often in freezing conditions while
- 00:37:15fully clothed and with miscavage
- 00:37:17watching church lawyer Monique Yingling
- 00:37:19said overboarding is a part of
- 00:37:21ecclesiastical Justice they're not
- 00:37:24backing away from it or ashamed of it
- 00:37:26she said it has been done hundreds of
- 00:37:28times with precautions taken to make it
- 00:37:30safe Scientology has a no tolerance
- 00:37:33policy on anyone who criticizes or
- 00:37:35attacks their practices it is often
- 00:37:38referred to as attack the attacker the
- 00:37:40procedure is as follows spot who is
- 00:37:43attacking us start investigating them
- 00:37:44promptly for felonies or Worse using
- 00:37:47owned professionals not outside agencies
- 00:37:49double curve our reply by saying we
- 00:37:51welcome an investigation of them start
- 00:37:53feeding lurid blood sex crime actual
- 00:37:56evidence on attackers to the Press you
- 00:37:59can get reasonable about it and lose
- 00:38:01sure we break no laws sure we have
- 00:38:03nothing to hide but attackers are simply
- 00:38:05an anti-scientology propaganda agency so
- 00:38:08far as we are concerned they have proven
- 00:38:10they want no facts and will only lie no
- 00:38:12matter what they discover so banish all
- 00:38:14ideas that any Fair hearing is intended
- 00:38:17and start our attack with their first
- 00:38:19breath never wait never talk about us
- 00:38:21only them use their blood sex crime to
- 00:38:24get headlines don't use us as a a called
- 00:38:28noisy investigation it's written up in
- 00:38:30Scientology uh and approved by Ron
- 00:38:32hubard and what a Scientology agent will
- 00:38:35do is they'll get a list of everybody
- 00:38:37you know including your doctor your
- 00:38:39dentist your travel agent whoever your
- 00:38:41friends your family they'll then contact
- 00:38:44every person on on the list whether
- 00:38:46directly or on the phone and say we're
- 00:38:49gathering information about John ATAC or
- 00:38:52whoever uh and their criminal background
- 00:38:55we found out some really interesting
- 00:38:57interesting things already I had this
- 00:38:59done to me and my mother-in-law my one
- 00:39:03of my brothers-in-law decided to talk to
- 00:39:06the private detective who'd been sent
- 00:39:08over from Los Angeles he traveled as far
- 00:39:10as Australia to find people who'd known
- 00:39:12me it was put about that I was a
- 00:39:14recovered heroin addict I've never taken
- 00:39:16heroin in my life I I was a rapist I'd
- 00:39:19attempted murder I'd molested children
- 00:39:23these are standard stories that are told
- 00:39:25about critics of Scientology they make
- 00:39:27check out this entire YouTube channel
- 00:39:29that creates high production value
- 00:39:31interviews all dedicated to saying
- 00:39:33negative things about ex scientology
- 00:39:35members who are now speaking out Aaron
- 00:39:37Smith Levens Mark and Clair heedley and
- 00:39:39of course Leah Remy they even get family
- 00:39:41members to speak about how violent
- 00:39:43abusive and horrible these ex-members
- 00:39:45are every night I'm sure many of you
- 00:39:47know that the Scientology iceberg is
- 00:39:50extremely deep this information just
- 00:39:52scratches the surface but it's important
- 00:39:54to understand a simple breakdown of this
- 00:39:56as it is effectively Tom Cruz's belief
- 00:39:59system and since Tom is one of the
- 00:40:01biggest outspoken activists supporting
- 00:40:04Scientology his support gives them an
- 00:40:06enormous amount of legitimacy since he
- 00:40:08is a beloved Superstar worldwide every
- 00:40:11time they open a new church they invite
- 00:40:13Tom to give a speech at the Grand
- 00:40:15Opening our kids need
- 00:40:17help this world needs help the kind of
- 00:40:20help where people can help themselves
- 00:40:24now I have and will continue to dedicate
- 00:40:27my life to accomplishing this and I am
- 00:40:31supremely grateful to Mr elron hubber
- 00:40:34for the study technology he provided
- 00:40:37because I would not be here today if I
- 00:40:39didn't get that and I am honored to be
- 00:40:42part of the applied Scholastics
- 00:40:44movement because I know now that I can
- 00:40:48truly help and so can you but regardless
- 00:40:51of his ties to the controversial Church
- 00:40:54Tom continued to have rampant success in
- 00:40:56H olwood The Firm Jerry Maguire Mission
- 00:41:00Impossible which became a seven-part
- 00:41:02series that defined his career as a
- 00:41:04stuntman he learned how to skydive fly
- 00:41:07and put in the homework to make a role
- 00:41:08look realistic he also had eyes wide
- 00:41:11shut Magnolia The Last Samurai and
- 00:41:14Minority Report to prove that he wasn't
- 00:41:16just a one-trick pony who does heroic
- 00:41:18action films however with the extreme
- 00:41:20rise of tabloid culture Publications
- 00:41:23were interested in poking and proding
- 00:41:25around the personal lives of celebrities
- 00:41:27and since Tom was a wildly successful
- 00:41:29actor with a popular actress wife and
- 00:41:32two adopted children they were a pretty
- 00:41:34good Target we're private people we we
- 00:41:36are human beings you know we are human
- 00:41:40beings we have feelings and we have and
- 00:41:42more importantly that we have a family
- 00:41:44now we have children and I think that
- 00:41:47for years we you know we were told and
- 00:41:49you know just don't worry don't worry
- 00:41:52don't worry don't
- 00:41:54worry and suddenly all these kind of
- 00:41:56rumors and gossip all of a sudden starts
- 00:41:58getting printed in you know legitimate
- 00:42:01magazines and uh you know and I'd send
- 00:42:04letters asking for an apology you know
- 00:42:05it's not true and then you start getting
- 00:42:07letters back where they say you
- 00:42:10know yeah you know and uh I just said
- 00:42:14you know what I'm mad as hell and I'm
- 00:42:17not going to take it
- 00:42:18anymore and it's not right and if
- 00:42:20they're not going to be responsible I am
- 00:42:22going to make them be responsible the
- 00:42:24Church of Scientology has been blamed
- 00:42:26for having a huge impact on how Tom
- 00:42:28Cruz's relationship started and ended
- 00:42:31making people wonder just how much
- 00:42:32control it has over its most famous
- 00:42:34members Cruz was married to actress Mimi
- 00:42:37Rogers in 1987 who was the one who
- 00:42:40actually helped convert Tom to
- 00:42:41Scientology but by the end of 1989 Cruz
- 00:42:44had filed for divorce according to
- 00:42:46former Scientologist Mike rinder who
- 00:42:49wrote about his experiences in his book
- 00:42:51a billion years my escape from a life in
- 00:42:53the highest ranks of Scientology he
- 00:42:55claims that Scientology leader David
- 00:42:57miscavage was heavily involved in Cruz's
- 00:43:00life at the time even helping to
- 00:43:01facilitate Cruz's relationship with
- 00:43:03Nicole Kidman while they were filming
- 00:43:05Days of Thunder in 1990 render alleges
- 00:43:08that Greg wilh her Cruz's personal
- 00:43:10auditor from the church was assigned to
- 00:43:12get Mimi to agree to a divorce so Tom
- 00:43:15could marry Nicole which was highly
- 00:43:17unusual and would never have happened
- 00:43:19with a normal Scientologist but what
- 00:43:21could scientology's problem be with Mimi
- 00:43:24Rogers Well rogers's father Philip phip
- 00:43:27C spickler had been closely involved
- 00:43:29with Scientology founder elron hubard
- 00:43:32but he left the church in the early
- 00:43:331980s this reportedly made Mimi Rogers
- 00:43:36herself less favorable in the eyes of
- 00:43:38scientology's leadership particularly
- 00:43:40David miscavage Morton's biography
- 00:43:43claims that the Scientology leadership
- 00:43:45felt such hostility towards Mimi's
- 00:43:47father that Mimi was stained by
- 00:43:50association which may have contributed
- 00:43:52to David miscavage push for the divorce
- 00:43:54Tom Cruz and Nicole Kidman met during
- 00:43:56the filming of Days of Thunder in 1989
- 00:43:59and married in 1990 during their
- 00:44:01marriage Cruz became more deeply and
- 00:44:03publicly involved in Scientology Kidman
- 00:44:06who was raised Catholic was not
- 00:44:08initially a member of the church but
- 00:44:09eventually became more involved and even
- 00:44:11undergoing frequent auditing sessions
- 00:44:14however their relationship with the
- 00:44:15church became strained as Kidman
- 00:44:17allegedly expressed concerns about the
- 00:44:19church's influence over crw as well as
- 00:44:22her not wanting her children Isabella
- 00:44:23and Connor who were then eight and six
- 00:44:25at the time to be raised under
- 00:44:27scientology's teachings and methods one
- 00:44:30former Scientologist Teresa Summers who
- 00:44:32raised one child inside Scientology and
- 00:44:35another outside shared her experience
- 00:44:37with the church's practices Summers
- 00:44:39described how the church discouraged
- 00:44:40regular medical treatment comfort and
- 00:44:43nurturing for children instead children
- 00:44:45were expected to do physical labor and
- 00:44:47were subjected to strict educational
- 00:44:49practices that focused more on
- 00:44:51scientology's teachings than on regular
- 00:44:53school subjects the church was allegedly
- 00:44:55concerned that Kidman was was pulling
- 00:44:57Cruz away from Scientology after their
- 00:44:59divorce in 2001 this now iconic photo of
- 00:45:02Kidman was taken where she is seen
- 00:45:03reaching her arms out in pure joy and
- 00:45:06relief that the marriage is finally over
- 00:45:08she also left Scientology around the
- 00:45:10same time unfortunately she was not able
- 00:45:13to get her kids out as Tom retained
- 00:45:15custody of the two children in the early
- 00:45:172000s more people than ever were trying
- 00:45:19to expose Scientology for what they
- 00:45:21believe it truly is and since Tom Cruz
- 00:45:24is the most notable member anything
- 00:45:26involves him would get more attention
- 00:45:28more views more clicks Etc like this
- 00:45:31video of him hanging out on the freeway
- 00:45:32ship celebrating his 42nd birthday thank
- 00:45:37[Laughter]
- 00:45:41you just I am not I don't know where I
- 00:45:44am right now you know you have to kind
- 00:45:47of be there to understand this reality
- 00:45:49you know how that is this is incredible
- 00:45:51this is just I will NE I just how how do
- 00:45:55I thank you thank you thank you thank
- 00:45:57you thank you it's the best best
- 00:45:59birthday ever ever ever ever I mean ever
- 00:46:04for the speech he gave when accepting
- 00:46:05Scientology made up Freedom medal of
- 00:46:08valor these are the times now people
- 00:46:12okay these are the times we will all
- 00:46:15remember were you
- 00:46:17there what did you
- 00:46:20do I think you know that I am there for
- 00:46:24you and I do care so very very very
- 00:46:31much so what do you say we going to
- 00:46:33clean this place
- 00:46:34[Music]
- 00:46:35[Applause]
- 00:46:37up because we're counting on
- 00:46:42you right deller
- 00:46:46H but there was one video that
- 00:46:49fundamentally changed scientology's
- 00:46:51public reputation in this 9-minute video
- 00:46:54of what seems to be a Scientology
- 00:46:56promotion re Tom is ranting about
- 00:46:58scientology with the signature Mission
- 00:47:00Impossible theme song playing in the
- 00:47:02background and just like every other
- 00:47:04time he talks about scientology he says
- 00:47:06a whole lot of nothing you can just see
- 00:47:08the look in their eyes you know the ones
- 00:47:09that are doing you know and you know the
- 00:47:12spectators who are the ones that are
- 00:47:13going well it's easy for you or what am
- 00:47:16I doing and it's just that thing is uh
- 00:47:19I've canceled that in my
- 00:47:21[Music]
- 00:47:23area it's like man you're either in or
- 00:47:25you're out that spectator ISM and it's
- 00:47:28something that that is we have no time
- 00:47:30for now so it's our responsibility to
- 00:47:35educate create the new reality you know
- 00:47:38we have that responsibility to say hey
- 00:47:41this is the way it should be done
- 00:47:42because we do it this way and people are
- 00:47:44actually getting better and let's get it
- 00:47:48done you know let's really get it done
- 00:47:50and have enough love compassion and
- 00:47:52toughness that that you're going to do
- 00:47:55it uh and uh do it right trust me when I
- 00:48:01say that this entire 99-minute video is
- 00:48:04just him stringing together a bunch of
- 00:48:06vague non-descriptive sentences that
- 00:48:08absolutely lead to no point whatsoever
- 00:48:11this video was so confusing and so
- 00:48:13laughable that it started to turn
- 00:48:15Scientology into somewhat of a joke or a
- 00:48:18meme it began to lose its sort of
- 00:48:20mysterious and almost cool and
- 00:48:22interesting luster and yeah people were
- 00:48:24just not taking it seriously anymore
- 00:48:26like it was just a joke to add fuel to
- 00:48:28the fire South Park made an entire
- 00:48:30episode mocking Scientology it All Began
- 00:48:3375 million years ago back then there was
- 00:48:37a Galactic Federation of planets which
- 00:48:40was ruled over by the evil Lord
- 00:48:43zenu zenu thought his Galaxy was
- 00:48:46overpopulated and so he rounded up
- 00:48:48countless aliens from all different
- 00:48:49planets and then had those aliens
- 00:48:53Frozen Frozen alien bodies were loaded
- 00:48:56onto zenu Galactic Cruisers which looked
- 00:48:58like dc8 except with rocket engines and
- 00:49:01dumped them into the volcanoes of
- 00:49:03Hawaii the aliens were no longer Frozen
- 00:49:06they were dead The Souls of those aliens
- 00:49:09however lived on and all floated up
- 00:49:11towards the sky zenu didn't want their
- 00:49:14souls to return and so we built giant
- 00:49:16Soul catchers in the sky there the souls
- 00:49:18were forced to watch Days of
- 00:49:19brainwashing material which tricked them
- 00:49:21into believing a false reality zenu then
- 00:49:24released the alien Souls which roamed
- 00:49:26the the Earth aimlessly in a fog of
- 00:49:28confusion at the dawn of man the souls
- 00:49:31finally found bodies which they could
- 00:49:32grab on to but the ironic thing was all
- 00:49:35they did was just explain what
- 00:49:37scientologists actually believe because
- 00:49:39of this episode The Office of special
- 00:49:42Affairs launched an investigation into
- 00:49:44Matt Stone and Trey Parker the
- 00:49:46Scientology Osa contacted their close
- 00:49:49friends looking for any vulnerabilities
- 00:49:52to exploit a Scientology Insider leaked
- 00:49:55this disturbing information there are
- 00:49:57some strings that will be pulled on the
- 00:49:59PRC on Stone otherwise these special
- 00:50:02collections covert information gathering
- 00:50:04such as trash collection purchase phone
- 00:50:06records hacked Airline reservations
- 00:50:08purchase bank records will be debugged
- 00:50:10in order to get some viable strings that
- 00:50:12can be pulled despite their efforts they
- 00:50:15were never able to find anything about
- 00:50:17Matt and Trey Parker when when you talk
- 00:50:19about scientology uh you're used to the
- 00:50:21response that people give you aren't you
- 00:50:22that you're some kind of nut case you
- 00:50:24there some kind of lunatic
- 00:50:27sort of religion thing used to the
- 00:50:28response I mean bigotry that is the
- 00:50:32religious equivalent of put the point to
- 00:50:34this is what people this is people's
- 00:50:35reaction no I think maybe people say
- 00:50:37that to you they don't say that to me oh
- 00:50:40with Scientology being scrutinized and
- 00:50:42laughed at more than ever Tom's Behavior
- 00:50:45wasn't really helpers like Matt low
- 00:50:47wanted to learn about how Scientology
- 00:50:50affects Tom's relationships Katie has
- 00:50:52mentioned that she is embracing or at
- 00:50:54least exposing herself and opening
- 00:50:56herself up to to Scientology at this
- 00:50:57stage in your life could you be with
- 00:50:59someone who doesn't have an interest you
- 00:51:02know Scientology is something that you
- 00:51:05don't understand it's like you could be
- 00:51:08a Christian and be a Scientologist okay
- 00:51:10Scientology is something so it doesn't
- 00:51:11replace religion and it is a religion
- 00:51:14because it's dealing with with with this
- 00:51:17the spirit you know you as a spiritual
- 00:51:19being and it's something that there's
- 00:51:22tools that that you have that can
- 00:51:24actually that you apply to your life
- 00:51:25they then go on to discuss when Tom Cruz
- 00:51:27criticized actress Brooke Shields for
- 00:51:29taking anti-depressants for postpartum
- 00:51:32depression and I know that uh Psychiatry
- 00:51:37is is a pseudo science but but Tom if
- 00:51:40she said that this particular thing
- 00:51:43helped her feel better whether it was
- 00:51:45the anti-depressant or going to a
- 00:51:46counselor or a psychiatrist isn't that
- 00:51:49enough mat you have to understand this
- 00:51:51here we are today where I talk out
- 00:51:53against drugs and psychiatric abuses of
- 00:51:56shocking people okay against their will
- 00:51:59of drugging children with them not
- 00:52:01knowing the effects of these drugs do
- 00:52:04you know what Aderall is do you know
- 00:52:05riddlin do you know now that riddlin is
- 00:52:07a street drug do you understand that the
- 00:52:11difference is this was not against
- 00:52:13though asking you a question mad I'm
- 00:52:15asking you a question I understand
- 00:52:16there's abuse of all of these things no
- 00:52:18you see here's the problem you don't
- 00:52:20know the history of Psychiatry I do
- 00:52:23aren't there examples and might not
- 00:52:24Brook Shields be an example of someone
- 00:52:26who who benefited from one of those
- 00:52:28drugs all it does is mask the problem
- 00:52:30Matt and if you understand the history
- 00:52:32of it it masks the problem that's what
- 00:52:34it does that's all it does you're not
- 00:52:38getting to the reason why there is no
- 00:52:40such thing as a chemical imbalance so
- 00:52:43postpartum depression to you is is kind
- 00:52:45of a little psychological go gobbly goop
- 00:52:48no no I did not say that I'm just asking
- 00:52:50what you what would you call it ABS Matt
- 00:52:52that is that post now now you're talking
- 00:52:54about two different things but that's
- 00:52:55what she went on anti-depressant for but
- 00:52:58what happens the anti-depressant all it
- 00:52:59does is mask the problem there's ways of
- 00:53:01vitamins and through exercise and
- 00:53:03various things I'm not saying that that
- 00:53:04isn't real that's not what I'm saying
- 00:53:05that's an alteration of what what I'm
- 00:53:07saying I'm saying that drugs aren't the
- 00:53:09answer that these these drugs are very
- 00:53:12dangerous they're mind altering anticho
- 00:53:15drugs and there are ways of doing it
- 00:53:18without that so that we don't end up in
- 00:53:19A Brave New World while Tom does make
- 00:53:22some interesting points about the
- 00:53:23potential dangers of using prescription
- 00:53:25medication as well is claiming that it
- 00:53:27would be advantageous for us to pursue
- 00:53:29more natural remedies it's kind of hard
- 00:53:31to take him seriously when he says that
- 00:53:33Psychiatry is pseudo science but he also
- 00:53:36believes that paying to reach your
- 00:53:38operating thaden levels will allow you
- 00:53:40to cross the bridge into total freedom
- 00:53:43Tom and Katie Holmes married in 2006 and
- 00:53:46from the very beginning there were
- 00:53:48rumors about scientology's involvement
- 00:53:50in the relationship Crews introduced
- 00:53:52homes to Scientology shortly after they
- 00:53:54started dating Katie who was raised
- 00:53:56Catholic decided to convert to
- 00:53:57Scientology which nobody was surprised
- 00:54:00soon after their marriage was official
- 00:54:02Katie Holmes was encouraged to cut ties
- 00:54:04with her previous management team and
- 00:54:05replace them with people connected to
- 00:54:07Scientology effectively putting her
- 00:54:09career in the church's control as time
- 00:54:11went on Holmes became increasingly
- 00:54:13uncomfortable with scientology's
- 00:54:14influence on their lives particularly
- 00:54:17concerning their daughter Siri Tom
- 00:54:19insisted that Katie deliver the baby in
- 00:54:21near silence following a Scientology
- 00:54:23ritual meant to prevent negative
- 00:54:25experiences from being imprinted on the
- 00:54:27child's mind this silent birthing
- 00:54:29technique is part of the belief system
- 00:54:31that the noise during childbirth would
- 00:54:33cause engrams there were rumors that the
- 00:54:35church had plans for sui to join the
- 00:54:38seaorg which really made Katie worry and
- 00:54:40realized she needed to make a change
- 00:54:42there were rumors that she was
- 00:54:43accompanied by a Scientology Handler
- 00:54:46during her public appearances who would
- 00:54:48feed her lines about how much she adored
- 00:54:50Tom as well as the church allegedly
- 00:54:53micromanaging various aspects of their
- 00:54:55relationship rumors aside when analyzing
- 00:54:58what actually happened after their
- 00:55:00divorce is really telling about the
- 00:55:02reality of their relationship you see
- 00:55:04while Holmes was with Tom he still had
- 00:55:06custody of his two children Bella and
- 00:55:08Connor are devoted to their father and
- 00:55:11Scientology and those children never
- 00:55:13really saw their mother Nicole Kidman so
- 00:55:15while Katie was with Tom she was fearful
- 00:55:18this could happen to her child if she
- 00:55:19got a divorce that her child would
- 00:55:21essentially be trapped in Scientology
- 00:55:24and under Tom's custody and then she
- 00:55:26just wouldn't see her daughter so Katie
- 00:55:28Holmes planned for months behind Tom's
- 00:55:30back and completely blindsided him with
- 00:55:32the news that she wanted a divorce and
- 00:55:34therefore Tom and Scientology were
- 00:55:36unable to control the way that the media
- 00:55:39reported on this when the divorce
- 00:55:41proceedings finally came out they
- 00:55:42revealed the lengths to which Holmes
- 00:55:44went to escape Scientology and Tom's
- 00:55:47control she had to use disposable burner
- 00:55:49phones and secret laptops to communicate
- 00:55:51with her lawyers and plan her Escape in
- 00:55:54fear that the church would step in and
- 00:55:55do something to her and take her
- 00:55:57daughter she almost immediately moved to
- 00:55:59New York which was a strategic move to
- 00:56:01secure primary custody of sui
- 00:56:03scientology members were allegedly
- 00:56:05following her in New York so out of fear
- 00:56:07she called the police because she
- 00:56:08believed church members were planning to
- 00:56:10abduct her daughter Katie also fired her
- 00:56:12entire team that had worked for her
- 00:56:14during her marriage to cruise including
- 00:56:16her publicist and security detail she
- 00:56:18had to wipe her entire life clean
- 00:56:20because of the grip Scientology had on
- 00:56:22her life the divorce settlement was
- 00:56:24reached with home securing primary
- 00:56:26custody of her daughter since then she
- 00:56:28has kept her distance from Scientology
- 00:56:30and enrolled Siri in a Catholic private
- 00:56:32school Tom has agreed to pay homes
- 00:56:34$400,000 per year until Siri is 18
- 00:56:38however he has not seen his daughter in
- 00:56:40over a decade since she and her mother
- 00:56:43are not
- 00:56:44scientologists now it is somewhat normal
- 00:56:46for a parent and child to disagree on
- 00:56:49values especially religious ones and
- 00:56:51there are definitely situations where
- 00:56:53conflicting religious beliefs will lead
- 00:56:55to a parent Los losing connection with
- 00:56:57their child but many people just simply
- 00:56:59look at Scientology as not worth losing
- 00:57:01your child over if you were to just look
- 00:57:03at Tom's opinions on Scientology you
- 00:57:05would learn that it is a belief system
- 00:57:07that helped him become an incredible
- 00:57:09human being he overcame his illness and
- 00:57:12use their teachings to accomplish his
- 00:57:14biggest life dreams which is good for
- 00:57:17him since Scientology is deeply rooted
- 00:57:20in and centered around self-fulfilling
- 00:57:22prophecies ones that coincidentally
- 00:57:25require people to pay enormous amounts
- 00:57:27of money to achieve it's not really much
- 00:57:29of a noble cause that people respect as
- 00:57:31reported by Vox according to former
- 00:57:33Scientology officials the church has
- 00:57:35continued to manage Cruz's life
- 00:57:37reportedly it granted him the full
- 00:57:39benefits of its more unsavory
- 00:57:41Enterprises including the church's
- 00:57:43alleged use of slave labor former
- 00:57:45Scientologist John brussow says the
- 00:57:47church has custombuilt luxury vehicles
- 00:57:49and sound systems for Crews and provides
- 00:57:51the staff who manage his many homes
- 00:57:53because this labor is provided by the
- 00:57:55church it's done through the sea Org the
- 00:57:57Scientologist Association that has been
- 00:57:59accused of human trafficking and forced
- 00:58:00labor the church has described these
- 00:58:02claims as both scous and ridiculous the
- 00:58:05picture painted by Cruz by former
- 00:58:07members of the church is not flattering
- 00:58:09they tend to describe Cruz as a
- 00:58:11well-meaning man who fundamentally is
- 00:58:14not curious and who is happy to have
- 00:58:16beautiful things handed to him without
- 00:58:18looking at their cost Scientology is
- 00:58:20attractive to Cruz in this account
- 00:58:22because it makes his life easier while
- 00:58:25simultaneously flattering his ego with
- 00:58:27the belief that he is a hero do you
- 00:58:30think Tom is essentially In Too Deep
- 00:58:32like yeah maybe he does want to see his
- 00:58:34daughter but they have too much dirt on
- 00:58:36him and it's almost a hostage type
- 00:58:38situation do you think he is actually an
- 00:58:41evil man who is taking advantage of
- 00:58:43forced labor and a tax exempt Fortune do
- 00:58:47you think he is conveniently turning a
- 00:58:48blind eye to the alleged Horrors and is
- 00:58:51going to play the whole I was
- 00:58:53brainwashed card when it all comes
- 00:58:55crashing down or maybe you think he is
- 00:58:58actually brainwashed and he is
- 00:59:00potentially a victim just like every
- 00:59:02other Scientologist and doesn't make you
- 00:59:04look at his movies or Legacy any
- 00:59:07differently drink water
