broadcast and some other NFL media items

uh let's start I'll just give you the
  • 00:01:51
    floor here overall impressions of
  • 00:01:55
Fox's presentation of the Eagles Chief
  • 00:01:57
    Super Bowl good bad fine
  • 00:02:00
    what you got
  • 00:02:02
uh overall no overall I think it was it
  • 00:02:05
was a good presentation um um I feel bad
  • 00:02:08
for Fox I feel bad for any of the from a
  • 00:02:12
in a corporate sense I feel bad but uh
  • 00:02:14
for for any Super Bowl broadcaster that
  • 00:02:17
has to have a uh a blowout like like
  • 00:02:20
that the game was over at halftime and
  • 00:02:23
then you're you're just trying to fill
  • 00:02:25
air a little bit um I Fox's uh a crew uh
  • 00:02:31
especially the the guys uh in the in the
  • 00:02:34
production truck you know um uh Brad
  • 00:02:36
zagger the executive producer is is uh
  • 00:02:40
has an excellent reputation Eric Shanks
  • 00:02:42
is among the best that have ever done
  • 00:02:45
this they always put on a really good
  • 00:02:47
professional show I I happen to watch a
  • 00:02:49
lot of the pregame show I think the
  • 00:02:51
stuff that they did uh from Bourbon
  • 00:02:53
Street um uh they had the uh um their um
  • 00:02:59
pregame show cast on Bourbon Street and
  • 00:03:02
that was that was a really cool visual
  • 00:03:05
uh I mean the content is what you would
  • 00:03:07
expect from a pregame show I don't think
  • 00:03:08
that that you know set the set the world
  • 00:03:11
on fire or anything and once uh but but
  • 00:03:14
but it was uh I just thought that it
  • 00:03:16
looked good it the it really got some
  • 00:03:19
excitement going get getting into the
  • 00:03:21
game uh and then the game happened and
  • 00:03:24
and it's it's just really hard to uh to
  • 00:03:26
do it what what were your thoughts well
  • 00:03:29
what one thing on the pregame show I
  • 00:03:32
    didn't
  • 00:03:33
watch Mo most of it or any of it I I I
  • 00:03:37
put the TV on at about
  • 00:03:41
5:00 and I had the TV on with no sound
  • 00:03:45
on Fox at that point because I was
  • 00:03:46
watching something else on a different
  • 00:03:48
TV but I just wanted to have it on in
  • 00:03:50
case so you have to keep in mind I'm
  • 00:03:53
    watching this there's no
  • 00:03:55
sound and I look up and I'm like oh I
  • 00:03:58
guess Jimmy Johnson is retiring I didn't
  • 00:04:00
you know and and then I put the sound on
  • 00:04:04
and Jimmy's crying on the stage and then
  • 00:04:07
they car man ify says is this a
  • 00:04:08
retirement and he goes one day at a time
  • 00:04:11
    so I was
  • 00:04:12
    like what just
  • 00:04:15
happened that was again I wasn't that
  • 00:04:17
was a little bizarre that was you were
  • 00:04:19
    waiting for the retirement announcement
  • 00:04:21
because that was exactly what they had
  • 00:04:23
uh been been leading up too and it was
  • 00:04:26
almost like he got cold feet at the last
  • 00:04:27
minute because of the the question from
  • 00:04:30
Kurt like you ask questions every week
  • 00:04:32
on this podcast you you know a leading
  • 00:04:34
question you when you see it and it
  • 00:04:36
seemed like hey do you have something to
  • 00:04:38
announce here and uh and there there
  • 00:04:41
wasn't yeah and I would love to know I
  • 00:04:44
    mean you'll never find out
  • 00:04:46
but I mean I was expecting Kurt menae to
  • 00:04:49
expect Jimmy to say yes he was retiring
  • 00:04:51
like it was that made the whole thing
  • 00:04:54
even more bizarre so and then I guess
  • 00:04:55
you know Fox so I guess there were a lot
  • 00:04:57
of people out there like me who thought
  • 00:04:58
Jimmy Johnson was retiring and fox ended
  • 00:05:01
up I know telling some media people no
  • 00:05:03
retirement and it's like okay well then
  • 00:05:05
5:00 hour of the Super Bowl you're
  • 00:05:08
running that piece what yeah and and the
  • 00:05:11
    piece also was
  • 00:05:13
um uh well the the the that whole
  • 00:05:16
retirement aspect of it you're right
  • 00:05:18
you're right but then the AI nature of
  • 00:05:20
it it's almost like they wanted to show
  • 00:05:22
off what they're able to do with uh with
  • 00:05:25
    artificial intelligence and you know
  • 00:05:27
they were able to show him as a college
  • 00:05:29
player as a young college coach and you
  • 00:05:31
know all the way through and and so I as
  • 00:05:35
I was watching it before I thought it
  • 00:05:37
was like heading in into a retirement
  • 00:05:39
announcement as I was watching it uh you
  • 00:05:41
know it just seemed like okay this is
  • 00:05:43
what we can do with this new technology
  • 00:05:45
that's out there but then when they came
  • 00:05:47
back to the set and he's in tears and
  • 00:05:49
man's trying to lead him in and I was
  • 00:05:51
like wait I think I think we're about to
  • 00:05:53
get something here yeah yeah in terms of
  • 00:05:56
to answer your question in terms of the
  • 00:05:57
the game broadcast I I've said this all
  • 00:06:01
along now for several weeks I'm so
  • 00:06:03
exhausted by the Brady stuff because
  • 00:06:07
it's every week everyone's got to
  • 00:06:08
analyze Brady and the problem with Brady
  • 00:06:12
is that he's fine he's not great and
  • 00:06:16
he's not I mean a lot of people out
  • 00:06:17
there want to say he's terrible he's not
  • 00:06:19
terrible not terrible that there are so
  • 00:06:20
many people judging him unfairly because
  • 00:06:23
he's Tom Brady he has seven super bowls
  • 00:06:25
    he's making $375 million he's not
  • 00:06:31
like you can't put him on a level of you
  • 00:06:33
know Daryl Johnston or Mark lth who on
  • 00:06:36
like the fifth and sixth Cruise like
  • 00:06:39
that is ridiculous to say Brady's bad or
  • 00:06:42
    he's terrible but he's not great he's
  • 00:06:43
not Greg olon he's not troyman he's what
  • 00:06:45
would you rank him in ter because I
  • 00:06:48
don't think anybody's comparing him to
  • 00:06:50
the the F fifth or sixth crew right and
  • 00:06:53
he was on the fifth or sixth cruise I
  • 00:06:55
don't think people would be so maniacal
  • 00:06:58
but you have uh Troy Aman on ESPN Tony
  • 00:07:02
    Romo Chris Collinsworth and Kirk
  • 00:07:05
    herbstreet is he within
  • 00:07:08
    those I don't think he's near
  • 00:07:12
Troy uh and and I still am of the belief
  • 00:07:14
that Romo is very good I think Romo
  • 00:07:18
actually I think Romo brings more to the
  • 00:07:20
broadcast than Brady right now that's
  • 00:07:22
the other thing in all this it is still
  • 00:07:24
    Tom's first
  • 00:07:27
year can we give him a little bit of a
  • 00:07:29
chance it's like no he can't he's making
  • 00:07:31
    $375 million can't give him a chance
  • 00:07:33
he's making $375 million a year and and
  • 00:07:35
and and usurped a really good booth and
  • 00:07:39
you can't like there are too many
  • 00:07:41
storylines outside of of of his actual
  • 00:07:44
call of the game and for me I don't I
  • 00:07:47
don't judge my rankings of a booth based
  • 00:07:52
solely on the analyst to me it's the
  • 00:07:54
totality of the booth so that's why I
  • 00:07:57
think buck and Amman are on whole other
  • 00:08:00
    level than everyone else
  • 00:08:02
because it doesn't get talked about
  • 00:08:04
enough but you listen to Joe Buck the
  • 00:08:07
    smoothness the energy the
  • 00:08:10
calls the voice like Joe is Joe and Troy
  • 00:08:14
I think are on another level and then I
  • 00:08:17
think for me you say who do you want to
  • 00:08:20
listen to it would be probably nans and
  • 00:08:21
    Romo
  • 00:08:23
second um I don't think burkart and
  • 00:08:27
    Brady
  • 00:08:28
would I don't think cracked the top four
  • 00:08:31
for me and again the best guy out there
  • 00:08:34
is Olsen and who the hell knows what's
  • 00:08:38
going to happen there but so like with
  • 00:08:39
Tom by the way that that's never
  • 00:08:41
happened I I I would submit to you in
  • 00:08:45
the history of Fox Sports in the NFL
  • 00:08:49
which is going back about 30 years
  • 00:08:51
now could you en Envision like their a
  • 00:08:55
broadcast team you're saying like oh I I
  • 00:08:58
they wouldn't crack my top four that
  • 00:09:00
that never would that have have happened
  • 00:09:02
in the history of Fox Sports that that
  • 00:09:04
that that that's significant unto itself
  • 00:09:06
I mean this this is a group that really
  • 00:09:10
I can't say enough good things about the
  • 00:09:12
the production and the and the
  • 00:09:14
executives at Fox Sports they lost Troy
  • 00:09:18
Aman and Joe Buck who you think is the
  • 00:09:21
best Booth out there and they they are
  • 00:09:23
    they're they're they're very very good
  • 00:09:26
and they didn't skip a beat they brought
  • 00:09:27
    in Burkhart they brought in
  • 00:09:29
didn't skip a beat and because because
  • 00:09:32
Fox is also very good and and and they
  • 00:09:35
they are able to do that and you know it
  • 00:09:37
does feel like they ski a beat and then
  • 00:09:40
yeah it's his first it's his first
  • 00:09:41
season and all all this all this other
  • 00:09:44
stuff but they SK they did skip a Beed I
  • 00:09:47
I they might be in my top four I don't
  • 00:09:49
know I'd have to maybe they're better
  • 00:09:52
than Aman I mean better than Michaels in
  • 00:09:54
    herb street I'm not I don't know
  • 00:09:57
but it doesn't feel like for me I I
  • 00:10:02
always feel like Tom is too prepared
  • 00:10:07
overprepared holding back not I think
  • 00:10:11
he's trying to be like an NFL
  • 00:10:12
broadcaster and not just a regular
  • 00:10:14
    person that's the impression I
  • 00:10:17
get yeah I think that we also have to
  • 00:10:20
somewhat figure out how he calls a games
  • 00:10:23
because the people that don't like Romo
  • 00:10:25
Romo's Romo you know he he sort of he
  • 00:10:28
brings an excitement he he sort of you
  • 00:10:30
know he he doesn't predict like he
  • 00:10:32
predicted at the beginning but he still
  • 00:10:34
kind of predicts plays and what's going
  • 00:10:36
to happen and you know he'll make some
  • 00:10:38
mistakes but but that's an excitement
  • 00:10:40
that that CBS likes to have that that
  • 00:10:43
conveys out there Chris Collinsworth is
  • 00:10:46
somebody that can take a you know a
  • 00:10:47
three- yard run and bring it back and
  • 00:10:50
and talk on a like 50,000 foot level
  • 00:10:52
about how that three yard run is
  • 00:10:54
instrumental into this overall story arc
  • 00:10:56
of a game you know I think I think
  • 00:10:58
Collinsworth is really good about doing
  • 00:11:00
that uh Troy Aman um is uh I mean you
  • 00:11:04
you you said it earlier yourself he just
  • 00:11:07
is tactically understands the game and
  • 00:11:10
and uh and and is able to uh take the
  • 00:11:14
analysis from his brain to his mouth and
  • 00:11:16
and out to the viewer and and that's not
  • 00:11:18
always easy as anybody listening to me
  • 00:11:21
right now probably probably knows and
  • 00:11:23
like and even even I mean this might
  • 00:11:29
get better over time but even sort of
  • 00:11:32
like the little byplay between barart
  • 00:11:34
    and
  • 00:11:34
Brady always seems to just not hit it
  • 00:11:38
right there was a point in the Super
  • 00:11:40
Bowl where Tom tried to make a joke
  • 00:11:43
about Kevin Hart did you hear that and
  • 00:11:47
    yeah and
  • 00:11:50
um by the way that that Netflix special
  • 00:11:53
that he was referencing was was a
  • 00:11:56
massive success but it was seen by what
  • 00:11:59
    I I like like 40 million 5050 million I
  • 00:12:01
I don't know what the number is off my
  • 00:12:02
head a fraction of the number that we're
  • 00:12:05
watching I was thinking about the poor
  • 00:12:07
people that are like why is he going
  • 00:12:09
after Kevin Hart now that that even knew
  • 00:12:13
nothing about the Tom Brady roast yeah
  • 00:12:15
so he tried to make like a hey joke
  • 00:12:16
about Kevin Hart and Burkhart the vibe I
  • 00:12:20
got at the beginning was like Burkhart
  • 00:12:21
didn't maybe know the reference but then
  • 00:12:23
he caught on but then Tom wouldn't even
  • 00:12:26
say the rose Tom's like well he got me
  • 00:12:27
pretty good back in May like the whole
  • 00:12:30
byplay was bizarre between them you know
  • 00:12:33
it doesn't it just doesn't feel natural
  • 00:12:36
but again they've only been together for
  • 00:12:38
a season but over listen I think you you
  • 00:12:40
    said it it
  • 00:12:42
before and I'm writing a column for
  • 00:12:44
si.com for Monday people can read it by
  • 00:12:46
the time this goes up probably I I can't
  • 00:12:48
judge them on anything in the second
  • 00:12:50
half the Chiefs got the ball to start
  • 00:12:53
the second half they didn't score that
  • 00:12:55
was it lights out the game was over and
  • 00:12:58
I you know you got to be careful of like
  • 00:13:01
getting narratives from Twitter but I
  • 00:13:04
couldn't believe all the people on
  • 00:13:05
    Twitter referencing 283 and thinking
  • 00:13:08
that was going to happen again did you
  • 00:13:10
watch the Eagles defense like there was
  • 00:13:13
no chance that chiefs were coming back
  • 00:13:15
when the defensive line for Philadelphia
  • 00:13:18
was in mahomes's face on every single
  • 00:13:20
down so that was stupid that the game
  • 00:13:23
was over when the Chiefs started the
  • 00:13:25
second half and did not score that for
  • 00:13:27
me so I I'm not going to judge Tom and
  • 00:13:31
Kevin on whatever happened in the second
  • 00:13:33
half because the game was they had
  • 00:13:35
nothing there to break down what I want
  • 00:13:37
from an analyst would I judge these guys
  • 00:13:38
on the most well the number one thing is
  • 00:13:40
do you annoy me and the second thing is
  • 00:13:43
by big number one thing yeah right well
  • 00:13:46
    that's why I don't mention Chris
  • 00:13:47
Collinsworth when you ask me for my
  • 00:13:48
favorites um I I like Collinsworth he
  • 00:13:51
doesn't he does a lot of people do I'm
  • 00:13:53
in I'm in the minority I'm in the
  • 00:13:55
minority but but not every player is
  • 00:13:57
great so it gets a little tiresome after
  • 00:13:59
a while I mean I will never forget as
  • 00:14:01
long as I live the Jets Chiefs game two
  • 00:14:03
years ago when he basically had Zack
  • 00:14:05
Wilson in the Hall of Fame so I I get
  • 00:14:07
annoyed by that but I what I want from
  • 00:14:11
an analyst is when it's close late the
  • 00:14:13
Tactical stuff the timeouts the clock
  • 00:14:16
management what do you run here should
  • 00:14:17
you run should you pass how are you
  • 00:14:20
burning the that's where olssen blows
  • 00:14:22
everyone out of the water um and that's
  • 00:14:26
has been very good this year like like
  • 00:14:28
right wh when he's uh describing a
  • 00:14:31
two-minute drill and he just sort of
  • 00:14:33
starts to get get in on that like he's
  • 00:14:35
done a billion two-minute drills in in
  • 00:14:37
his career and so that that that I I
  • 00:14:39
find to be really interesting what I
  • 00:14:41
think is is difficult is you know you
  • 00:14:44
mentioned social media and uh I I was I
  • 00:14:47
was looking on there and people are like
  • 00:14:49
he talks about you his playing career
  • 00:14:51
too much and people are saying he
  • 00:14:52
doesn't talk about his playing career
  • 00:14:53
too much uh like the the one thing that
  • 00:14:57
    um I have one takeaway
  • 00:15:00
the uh Eagles were up I have more than
  • 00:15:02
one takeaway but one takeway is the
  • 00:15:04
Eagles were up 24 to nothing H going
  • 00:15:07
into half who would you rather have in
  • 00:15:10
the booth at that moment than the
  • 00:15:13
    quarterback that engineered the biggest
  • 00:15:16
comeback in NFL history tell telling us
  • 00:15:19
stories about what that locker room was
  • 00:15:21
like what happened who was like banging
  • 00:15:23
the locker who like and there was
  • 00:15:26
nothing he didn't know that like like it
  • 00:15:28
was almost sort of he was still deciding
  • 00:15:30
whether the the Eagles should run or
  • 00:15:33
pass with you know 10 seconds left in
  • 00:15:35
the half it was a it was a swing and a
  • 00:15:37
miss in my opinion I agree and that's
  • 00:15:40
why he said earlier about Brady being
  • 00:15:42
judged unfairly if he talks about his
  • 00:15:44
playing career people bash him if he's
  • 00:15:46
not talking about 283 people are bashing
  • 00:15:48
    him
  • 00:15:49
meanwhile if you think Fox hired him and
  • 00:15:52
gave him $375 million to not talk about
  • 00:15:56
his Hall of Fame alltime great playing
  • 00:15:59
career you're an idiot listen fox has
  • 00:16:03
been very clear that they would make
  • 00:16:04
that higher again uh they've been on the
  • 00:16:08
record saying that he's going to come
  • 00:16:10
back despite the uh uh uh the ownership
  • 00:16:13
of the Raiders and the his sort of
  • 00:16:15
involvement W with that team and I have
  • 00:16:18
to say they uh I don't know anything
  • 00:16:21
about the Excel spreadsheets with the
  • 00:16:24
dollars and cents but it was a good hire
  • 00:16:26
for them I mean he he brings a and you
  • 00:16:28
can see in the pregame show he does
  • 00:16:30
bring an excitement to it and and the
  • 00:16:33
the part of uh I I do a weekly Brady
  • 00:16:35
meter as you know in the uh in my um
  • 00:16:38
private email and it's uh part of the
  • 00:16:40
reason I do it is just because it's Tom
  • 00:16:42
Brady and he and he replaced a a really
  • 00:16:45
    good analyst and let's let's let's just
  • 00:16:48
see how he progresses this all all
  • 00:16:50
season I thought he had a really really
  • 00:16:52
good moment late first quarter it was 7
  • 00:16:54
nothing Philly but the game at that
  • 00:16:56
point was sloppy it didn't really have a
  • 00:16:58
flow but teams were the Chiefs
  • 00:17:00
especially was slow yeah the two bad
  • 00:17:02
calls by the refs and Brady started
  • 00:17:04
    talking about
  • 00:17:06
how slow starts in the Super Bowl are
  • 00:17:08
expected you're on a neutral field
  • 00:17:11
there's no home field advantage you're
  • 00:17:12
not you know you have different
  • 00:17:13
mentality Home Road the game is a much
  • 00:17:16
longer game than any other game because
  • 00:17:18
of the halftime that's got to go for you
  • 00:17:20
know 40 minutes and he talked about you
  • 00:17:22
playing a 4H hour and 15minute game so
  • 00:17:25
he said you and I thought that was great
  • 00:17:28
in it that you get because of his
  • 00:17:30
    experience
  • 00:17:31
there that's more of that would be good
  • 00:17:35
yeah yeah I no he certainly had moments
  • 00:17:37
I I do feel bad for him because he is a
  • 00:17:40
rookie broadcaster again when I say I
  • 00:17:42
    feel bad it's a it's a measure right I
  • 00:17:46
know right ex but he's a rookie
  • 00:17:47
broadcaster and there's a handful of
  • 00:17:51
people I think I think you and I can
  • 00:17:53
probably take off maybe three four or
  • 00:17:56
five who can be effective been a blowout
  • 00:18:00
and and you know that's where you really
  • 00:18:01
have to you know bring the John Madden
  • 00:18:04
type of I mean John Madden is the
  • 00:18:05
greatest of all time but bring his sort
  • 00:18:07
of like excitement level uh or you get a
  • 00:18:10
Storyteller in there and like none of
  • 00:18:13
this fits in with where Tom Brady is
  • 00:18:15
right now did you catch the moment late
  • 00:18:18
    the game it was
  • 00:18:20
346 and the Eagles had destroyed momes
  • 00:18:23
but they face massed him there was no
  • 00:18:25
flag and Tom went to Pereira and perea
  • 00:18:28
    was like
  • 00:18:29
he basically was like annoyed that he
  • 00:18:31
got called on gave like a one-word
  • 00:18:33
answer and in the most low monotone
  • 00:18:36
sound did you C did you catch that by
  • 00:18:38
    any chance I didn't I didn't I didn't
  • 00:18:39
pick up on any annoyance with with that
  • 00:18:42
    I I I think it
  • 00:18:43
like I think basically Brady was like
  • 00:18:47
you know H you whatever and Pere was
  • 00:18:49
like that's a flag that should have been
  • 00:18:51
a flag but he said it like why are you
  • 00:18:53
    bothering me right now
  • 00:18:57
um this basketball season when your
  • 00:18:59
favorite Stars score buckets we're Aly
  • 00:19:02
ooping you an opportunity to win money
  • 00:19:04

assists rebounds blocks and much more

up to 1,000 times your money so turn $1
  • 00:19:27
    into $1,000
  • 00:19:29
just with your Hoops knowledge this week
  • 00:19:31
on Underdog I'm looking at the NBA and
  • 00:19:34
picking Luca donic for higher on
  • 00:19:37
basically all of his stats but
  • 00:19:39
especially points rebounds I think Luca
  • 00:19:42
will be motivated after the big trade uh
  • 00:19:45
the narrative out there is that he's out
  • 00:19:47
of shape he doesn't work hard and I
  • 00:19:49
think that's going to push something in
  • 00:19:51
Luca so I'm looking at him here on
  • 00:19:53
Underdog to go higher uh especially
  • 00:19:56
    points and rebounds

heny this is very inside media and I
  • 00:20:53
think there's probably 10 of us who care
  • 00:20:55
about this I don't think fox has helped
  • 00:20:57
Brady by shielding him from people like
  • 00:21:01
us or any other interviewers or
  • 00:21:03
podcasters they've only put him they
  • 00:21:05
they had at the Super Bowl they have an
  • 00:21:07
annual media day and uh this media Fox's
  • 00:21:10
media day was on Thursday and that's
  • 00:21:12
where they roll out all of their
  • 00:21:14
Executives and all of their talent and
  • 00:21:17
who was not there the you know the the
  • 00:21:20
number one broadcast team they they were
  • 00:21:22
on a um uh earlier on or the day before
  • 00:21:25
they had had a uh a press conference
  • 00:21:28
which I know you were on what was that
  • 00:21:29
like well it wasn't a press conference
  • 00:21:31
it was a conference call conference call
  • 00:21:33
that's what I meant yeah no so they they
  • 00:21:34
didn't even put Tom on video wait that
  • 00:21:37
was all audio the conference call all
  • 00:21:39
yeah all audio and it was you know
  • 00:21:42
everyone asked Tom a bunch of questions
  • 00:21:43
and you know everyone else poor Kevin
  • 00:21:46
and Aaron and ronaldi and they got like
  • 00:21:49
one question each and there were 50
  • 00:21:51
    questions for Tom on the
  • 00:21:53
phone um you know by the time they got
  • 00:21:56
around to me they were like oh can we
  • 00:21:57
limit it to one question you know they
  • 00:21:59
played that game what was your question
  • 00:22:01
    um I asked
  • 00:22:05
him if he thought critics have been fair
  • 00:22:08
and if he has read any of the you know
  • 00:22:12
    reviews of his
  • 00:22:13
broadcasts and I asked him because when
  • 00:22:15
I I did speak to him briefly on a p he
  • 00:22:18
was on this podcast but only for like 10
  • 00:22:20
minutes before the season and I asked
  • 00:22:23
him what his biggest concern was going
  • 00:22:25
into the booth he said he didn't want to
  • 00:22:26
be overly critical and I asked him if he
  • 00:22:28
you know had how he felt he did in that
  • 00:22:29
area um so it was fine but
  • 00:22:34
again the if you see Aman Collinsworth
  • 00:22:40
    they're they're out there doing
  • 00:22:41
interview Nance they're like here's the
  • 00:22:43
thing with fxck they don't like Burkhart
  • 00:22:45
    do
  • 00:22:46
interviews because they don't want it to
  • 00:22:49
    be about
  • 00:22:51
Brady that's not going to help you like
  • 00:22:53
you need to get time out there to show
  • 00:22:55
his personality win over some viewers
  • 00:22:57
there were so many people there were so
  • 00:22:59
many football fans who don't like Tom
  • 00:23:01
Brady for the simple fact that he's Tom
  • 00:23:02
Brady and he kicked their team's asses
  • 00:23:04
for a hundred years and won all those
  • 00:23:06
super bows get him out there let him
  • 00:23:07
show his personality let him have fun he
  • 00:23:09
doesn't have to do my podcast put him on
  • 00:23:10
any put him on part of my take let him
  • 00:23:12
have a good time show the Personality
  • 00:23:14
yeah he's had a lot of uh hits on uh
  • 00:23:17
Colin coward show that does not count
  • 00:23:19
that does not count that as the great
  • 00:23:21
Bob raceman from The Daily News would
  • 00:23:23
say is a Twinkie Munch that does not
  • 00:23:26
count so don't tell me about Colin
  • 00:23:27
    coward I don't know about rayan's what
  • 00:23:30
what did you call it a Twinkie Munch he
  • 00:23:31
C whenever he Bob raceman of the D the
  • 00:23:34
media critic for the Daily News for his
  • 00:23:37
    entire career refers to softball
  • 00:23:39
interviews as a twinky Munch so like if
  • 00:23:43
    I had you
  • 00:23:45
know you know Derek Jeter on this
  • 00:23:47
podcast he'd call it a Twinkie Munch
  • 00:23:49
    because I wouldn't ask any hard-hitting
  • 00:23:50
questions oh right right yeah yeah so
  • 00:23:52
Tom Brady going on FS1 does not count
  • 00:23:55
yeah I I have a complaint with with Jim
  • 00:23:58
Trina I mean because of you I I know
  • 00:24:00
Derek Jeter's middle name I mean it
  • 00:24:02
drives me Daddy yeah it's terrible yeah
  • 00:24:06
but you know that doesn't count so maybe
  • 00:24:08
next year they'll now I also don't know
  • 00:24:10
that's the other funny thing is like Tom
  • 00:24:12
Tom Brady he does have a personality and
  • 00:24:15
and he and he has a um look he's the
  • 00:24:18
    star quarterback of the greatest
  • 00:24:20
quarterback of all time he he went to I
  • 00:24:23
I was in um uh New Orleans this week and
  • 00:24:27
he went into to the Four Seasons bar
  • 00:24:30
    with Joe
  • 00:24:31
Montana and I got texted by like three
  • 00:24:35
    different people like they because
  • 00:24:36
because it was exciting it was like wow
  • 00:24:39
like they he still has this sort of like
  • 00:24:41
you know uh um Ju Just magnetism that's
  • 00:24:45
out there and I I I do question why uh
  • 00:24:48
uh Fox decided to keep it under wraps as
  • 00:24:52
for the entire season pretty much yeah
  • 00:24:55
um blowout game do you think it hurt the
  • 00:24:58
rating you think they still set a record
  • 00:25:00
    what's your take blow a blowout game I I
  • 00:25:02
know I was predicting uh a record
  • 00:25:05
audience before the game because all all
  • 00:25:08
chiefs games are closed because it was a
  • 00:25:09
blowout almost certainly uh uh it it
  • 00:25:12
won't set a record but um uh the neelon
  • 00:25:17
CH is change they're always sort of
  • 00:25:19
changing the way that they count uh
  • 00:25:21
viewers and they they did it again so
  • 00:25:24
it's they're adding in um uh out of I
  • 00:25:27
don't want to get too much in the Weeds
  • 00:25:29
on this podcast but they're adding in
  • 00:25:30
out of home viewers uh which is going to
  • 00:25:33
increase it a little bit Fox put it on
  • 00:25:35
tuby we don't know how many people would
  • 00:25:37
have watched it uh would streamed it on
  • 00:25:40
tuby I think the when we see the final
  • 00:25:43
number it's going to be a uh obviously
  • 00:25:46
the B the biggest number you know in in
  • 00:25:48
TV this year but uh I I think it's going
  • 00:25:50
to be a really really respectable number
  • 00:25:53
    I I don't think that it's Pro I mean it
  • 00:25:56
has to beat an overtime game that
  • 00:25:58
from from just last year so it's
  • 00:26:00
unlikely to do that but I I a quick
  • 00:26:03
prediction it's going to come out I I'll
  • 00:26:04
look really stupid but I wouldn't be
  • 00:26:06
surpris if it's still over 120
  • 00:26:08
million I had no idea what tub was until
  • 00:26:11
like two weeks ago when Fox started
  • 00:26:13
promoting it for the super um and still
  • 00:26:16
    don't really like it's a streaming
  • 00:26:18
service but I don't know is it like N I
  • 00:26:20
don't know whatever I don't want to get
  • 00:26:21
    into that
  • 00:26:22
um I do you don't think see I I think it
  • 00:26:26
still has a chance for the simple fact
  • 00:26:30
    of
  • 00:26:31
    the
  • 00:26:33
Chiefs bringing in so many Fringe people
  • 00:26:36
    who don't care about
  • 00:26:38
football yeah how many of those Fringe
  • 00:26:40
people stuck around to the end there
  • 00:26:41
weren't too many Chief touchdowns where
  • 00:26:43
you have cutaways to Taylor Swift uh
  • 00:26:46
well that was amazing I think they
  • 00:26:47
showed her once during the whole
  • 00:26:48
broadcast the the the one thing that
  • 00:26:50
that I do go back to is is back when
  • 00:26:52
Dallas was good uh the Cowboys you when
  • 00:26:55
when they would win it would be it would
  • 00:26:58
bring in Monster ratings and when they
  • 00:27:00
would get blown out it would bring in
  • 00:27:02
Monster ratings because the number of
  • 00:27:03
people that hated the Cowboys the Chiefs
  • 00:27:06
uh they're they're not quite the same
  • 00:27:08
type of villains as the Cowboys but
  • 00:27:11
there's a lot of anti- Chief Behavior so
  • 00:27:13
as you see Patrick momes and Travis
  • 00:27:16
Kelce going down 24 nothing are people
  • 00:27:18
reving in that and want to see more of
  • 00:27:20
    it I I don't think they're quite at that
  • 00:27:22
level yet but that that that could that
  • 00:27:24
could also help the ratings a little bit
  • 00:27:26
I'm going to disagree with you there I
  • 00:27:27
think there's more than you think I
  • 00:27:28
think there's more than you think and
  • 00:27:30
the the Taylor Swift fans are deranged
  • 00:27:32
they will watch the entire game just to
  • 00:27:35
see if there's a cutaway of her that's
  • 00:27:37
what they're there for they don't care
  • 00:27:38
about the score they look they just want
  • 00:27:40
any cutaway they want to see if Travis
  • 00:27:42
    makes a catch so I don't be I I'm not
  • 00:27:45
saying they're gonna set the record I
  • 00:27:47
just wouldn't be shocked if they do
  • 00:27:48
    would I wouldn't i' would be surprised
  • 00:27:50
if they set the record I wouldn't be the
  • 00:27:52
shock so whatever that that nebulous
  • 00:27:56
level is the number is going to be huge
  • 00:27:58
though it's going to be huge it will be
  • 00:28:00
huge for sure um I didn't watch any of
  • 00:28:03
the commercials but that's what a lot of
  • 00:28:04
people watch for I'm sure people
  • 00:28:05
listening right now want to know
  • 00:28:06
something about the commercials so did
  • 00:28:09
you have favorites what did you think of
  • 00:28:10
the commercials give give my listeners
  • 00:28:13
something on the commercials because I
  • 00:28:15
    cannot god well I didn't I I didn't
  • 00:28:18
really have a favorite on on the
  • 00:28:20
commercials oh wow um that's not a good
  • 00:28:22
sign you know none of them none of them
  • 00:28:24
uh really stood out to me there there
  • 00:28:26
was uh the one with David Beckham this
  • 00:28:29
is what I love about the the commercials
  • 00:28:31
I I the one with David Beckham and um
  • 00:28:35
Matt Damon and I have no clue what they
  • 00:28:37
were selling but uh I I watched all 30
  • 00:28:40
    seconds of that
  • 00:28:41
    commercial and I thought it was I I I
  • 00:28:44
thought it was entertaining and you have
  • 00:28:46
no idea what it was for what was it for
  • 00:28:48
    in me indeed I have
  • 00:28:51
no funny I saw it was for a puck to
  • 00:28:55
    subscribe to The Varsity
  • 00:28:58
    good star power I
  • 00:29:01
saw a couple of weeks ago on Twitter the
  • 00:29:05
when Harry metali Billy Crystal mag Ryan
  • 00:29:08
yeah that was there was nothing new or
  • 00:29:10
unusual when that came in yeah but Brian
  • 00:29:12
Curtis who covers media as well for the
  • 00:29:15
ringer made a good point my first
  • 00:29:17
thought when I saw that commercial
  • 00:29:19
was there's no mayo on the tables at
  • 00:29:22
cat's Deli and then no no my thought was
  • 00:29:26
nobody gets turkey at cats's Deli
  • 00:29:28
and Brian Curtis tweeted during the game
  • 00:29:30
he's never seen anyone at cass's Deli
  • 00:29:33
use mayo and I said yeah no one orders
  • 00:29:35
turkey CES Deli so that was a
  • 00:29:38
bizarre um it was nice to see Billy
  • 00:29:40
Crystal and Meg gryan reunite but didn't
  • 00:29:43
make if you if you're a New Yorker like
  • 00:29:44
no one outside of New York understands
  • 00:29:46
what the hell I'm talking about but
  • 00:29:47
cat's Deli is this New York City
  • 00:29:51
institution um Landmark Place for corn
  • 00:29:55
beef and for pastrami for pastrami
  • 00:29:57
that's what it's for for and and soup
  • 00:30:00
matab ball soup and stuff like that the
  • 00:30:03
turkey and Mayo is not you know if you
  • 00:30:05
look at the cats is a 12:00 today you
  • 00:30:06
won't see anyone eating that yeah as you
  • 00:30:08
know I'm from DC grew up in DC like I
  • 00:30:11
think I would be scared to order Mayo at
  • 00:30:13
at cat's Deli yeah The Soup Nazi would
  • 00:30:17
yell at me couple of things just to look
  • 00:30:20
ahead here uh MBC has the Super Bowl
  • 00:30:23
    next
  • 00:30:24
year and then I think the big one for
  • 00:30:26
people who do what we do and I think
  • 00:30:28
it'll it'll trickle down to the sports
  • 00:30:30
fan two years from now so the year after
  • 00:30:32
next ESPN and ABC finally get back in
  • 00:30:36
the Super Bowl business they had the
  • 00:30:38
Super Bowl back in the Monday Night
  • 00:30:39
Football days I remember uh I think the
  • 00:30:42
last one maybe was Allan Boomer seison
  • 00:30:44
doing the Rams and Titans maybe the last
  • 00:30:46
one yeah I think that was in Detroit if
  • 00:30:48
    I'm not
  • 00:30:49
mistaken but this new version sort of of
  • 00:30:53
the ESPN ABC Disney company with Joe and
  • 00:30:57
Troy get it in years and what I'm
  • 00:30:59
interested in is there is nothing ever
  • 00:31:02
that has been hyped like the Super Bowl
  • 00:31:05
whenever it's on any network and there
  • 00:31:07
is no company in the world that can do
  • 00:31:09
hype like ESPN so it will be fascinating
  • 00:31:12
to see what happens in two years when
  • 00:31:14
they finally get that Super Bowl can I
  • 00:31:16
talk about uh next year real quick sure
  • 00:31:18
go ahead yeah NBC gets it next year NBC
  • 00:31:22
has done it forever however a couple of
  • 00:31:24
days before the Super Bowl there they
  • 00:31:27
they're the opening ceremony of the
  • 00:31:30
Winter Olympics so they're going to be
  • 00:31:33
covering the opening ceremony of the
  • 00:31:34
Winter Olympics which is a huge event
  • 00:31:36
for NBC then a couple days later they're
  • 00:31:39
going to be doing the Super Bowl and
  • 00:31:41
then uh a week after that they're gonna
  • 00:31:43
have the NBA All-Star Game which I know
  • 00:31:45
is not of the same level but it still is
  • 00:31:48
a big level and it'll be the very first
  • 00:31:50
one for NBC so they they're going to
  • 00:31:52
have this run of a week and a half of of
  • 00:31:56
really again people are going to laugh
  • 00:31:59
that I put the NBA All-Star Game in
  • 00:32:01
these massive events with the opening
  • 00:32:02
ceremony in the the Super Bowl but in
  • 00:32:05
terms of production in terms of a uh
  • 00:32:07
executive sort of talent needing to be
  • 00:32:10
there it it's it's going to be a wild um
  • 00:32:13
a week and a half stretch for those guys
  • 00:32:15
I'm putting you on the spot because this
  • 00:32:16
is a year away but do you know I'm
  • 00:32:18
curious the day the like how the opening
  • 00:32:22
    ceremonies or how
  • 00:32:25
far before the Super Bowl like a couple
  • 00:32:28
of days it's a couple of days yeah it's
  • 00:32:31
not so what I'm because I'm thinking
  • 00:32:33
about too what's going to go on here
  • 00:32:34
with too during that time uh so yeah t
  • 00:32:37
too is uh is the host of the the
  • 00:32:39
Olympics as you know yep zero chance is
  • 00:32:43
Mike too gonna give up broadcasting
  • 00:32:46
being the play uh play on the Super Bowl
  • 00:32:49
so I I think that he you know the uh
  • 00:32:51
corporate jet of um and NBC's corporate
  • 00:32:55
jet is going to be uh going back and
  • 00:32:58
forth that's usually a week where they
  • 00:33:00
want the play-by-play guy you saw it
  • 00:33:02
this week like they want them in that
  • 00:33:04
host City all week doing you know a
  • 00:33:06
bunch of nonsense and promotional stuff
  • 00:33:09
oh yeah you know he I I can see a
  • 00:33:11
scenario where um they I NBC hasn't
  • 00:33:15
decided this yet I can see a scenario
  • 00:33:17
where he is uh going to do the opening
  • 00:33:19
ceremony because that's sort of like you
  • 00:33:21
know hosting a a parade and and that
  • 00:33:24
that's where I think too actually does a
  • 00:33:26
a very good job with that is one of my
  • 00:33:28
favorites I think he he's Elite play
  • 00:33:30
byplay person on Absolut basketball on
  • 00:33:33
football as well uh and so he he'll do
  • 00:33:35
the opening ceremony and then and then
  • 00:33:37
immediately jet to to uh the Super Bowl
  • 00:33:40
will be in San Francisco uh Santa Clara
  • 00:33:42
um and so um he'll immediately jet there
  • 00:33:46
I'm not sure where the NBA All-Star Game
  • 00:33:48
will fall for him but uh if if I'm NBC
  • 00:33:52
the Olympics are are certainly actually
  • 00:33:54
    I don't know if they're a priority over
  • 00:33:55
over the NBA considering it's year won
  • 00:33:58
so I I spoke too quickly on that one so
  • 00:34:01
let me let me steal a bit from Andrew
  • 00:34:03
marshan our dear friend and uh even
  • 00:34:07
though you know Tom Tom has come out
  • 00:34:10
this week he said it was my question
  • 00:34:11
where he said it on that conference call
  • 00:34:13
that he's around for nine more years and
  • 00:34:16
his agent has come out recently said
  • 00:34:17
he's staying with Fox so next year NBC
  • 00:34:20
has a Super Bowl which John just
  • 00:34:22
detailed along with the Winter Olympics
  • 00:34:23
right around the same time two years
  • 00:34:25
from now it's ESPN AB well it's on ABC
  • 00:34:27
see but is ESPN production um and then
  • 00:34:31
three years from now is CBS and then
  • 00:34:32
four years from now it'll roll back to
  • 00:34:35
Fox so in four years so that's 2029 will
  • 00:34:39
that be Burkhart and Brady in the booth
  • 00:34:41
for Fox oh that's I wasn't expecting you
  • 00:34:43
to take the question to four years from
  • 00:34:45
    now that's a great that's a great
  • 00:34:46
question I'm not prepared for that
  • 00:34:49
one where's Maran we got to get him on
  • 00:34:51
the line give he can give us the uh the
  • 00:34:53
Brady meter yeah his his his version of
  • 00:34:54
The Brady meter by the way we're 30
  • 00:34:56
minutes in and you finally mentioned
  • 00:34:57
marshan I like thank you for giving me
  • 00:34:59
the 30 minutes marshan free half hour
  • 00:35:03
well he was the one who was saying you
  • 00:35:04
know every week like whether Brady will
  • 00:35:06
be doing this next year or what you know
  • 00:35:08
how many I think you know we've all
  • 00:35:09
gotten in on it but that Super Bowl the
  • 00:35:11
next Super Bowl for Brady is in four
  • 00:35:13
years so we'll have to see all right so
  • 00:35:15
uh in four in four years uh that here's
  • 00:35:19
what I'll say I'll just point you to um
  • 00:35:22
um the Boston Globe columnist Chad Finn
  • 00:35:26
    who who who has
  • 00:35:28
uh been around Brady and covered not
  • 00:35:30
been around Brady but covered Brady for
  • 00:35:32
the Boston Globe during his playing
  • 00:35:34
career and when uh Tom Brady's agent uh
  • 00:35:39
came out and said that he was gonna
  • 00:35:41
honor the contract uh Chad Finn I think
  • 00:35:44
he went on D's podcast and said he still
  • 00:35:47
expects him to to not do any more years
  • 00:35:50
after this year and and he uh I think he
  • 00:35:52
put it in print as well um I I'm I'm a
  • 00:35:56
naive sort I take people at their word
  • 00:35:58
uh the Box Executives expect him to be
  • 00:36:00
around Brady says he wants to be around
  • 00:36:03
he he's uh he appears to be having fun
  • 00:36:06
he appear uh he's making $37 million a
  • 00:36:09
year to do it I mean could could you
  • 00:36:11
does anybody have so much money that
  • 00:36:13
they're going to pass up calling a
  • 00:36:14
football game for half a year for $37
  • 00:36:18
million so I will say yes he will be
  • 00:36:20
around in four years to uh to do that
  • 00:36:22
Super Bowl all right last one before I
  • 00:36:24
let you go it was mentioned
  • 00:36:28
    this past week to
  • 00:36:30
Goodell about the NFL having an out with
  • 00:36:35
    their television
  • 00:36:37
contracts what year can the is the out
  • 00:36:40
do you know yeah it's after the uh 2029
  • 00:36:43
season so so it would be the 2030 Super
  • 00:36:47
Bowl how on Earth can they not opt out
  • 00:36:50
    with these streaming
  • 00:36:52
services uh well I think they're going
  • 00:36:55
    to opt out I I I think it's almost
  • 00:36:57
certain they're going to opt out but let
  • 00:36:59
me answer that question how why why
  • 00:37:01
might they not is you said everything is
  • 00:37:05
going so fast right now so like what
  • 00:37:08
happens if you know somebody buys Fox
  • 00:37:12
and and and or or a couple of the
  • 00:37:14
broadcast networks merge or and and all
  • 00:37:17
of a sudden you don't have as many
  • 00:37:18
biders uh that are out there one thing
  • 00:37:21
one red flag for the NFL which is she
  • 00:37:25
massively massively success ESS F of
  • 00:37:28
course for the in terms of media is that
  • 00:37:32
they right now they kind of have enough
  • 00:37:35
packages for the same number of biders
  • 00:37:38
and the the reason the NBA uh was so
  • 00:37:42
successful in its media rights is that
  • 00:37:44
they had one more bidder than the number
  • 00:37:46
of packages so it just drove drove the
  • 00:37:48
rights up so why wouldn't you come out
  • 00:37:50
maybe maybe Netflix is decides I don't
  • 00:37:53
want a Sunday Night Football package or
  • 00:37:56
or the Sunday afternoon packages and and
  • 00:37:59
and so that could be a reason there I
  • 00:38:02
    don't think I think it's certain that
  • 00:38:03
they're going to opt out and I think
  • 00:38:05
it's certain that more more biders are
  • 00:38:07
going to come in there but there is
  • 00:38:09
something that I called it a red flag it
  • 00:38:11
should probably be more of a you know
  • 00:38:12
yellow flag or something that's out
  • 00:38:14
there but uh that that's uh that's just
  • 00:38:17
    something to
  • 00:38:19
consider yeah it just it just seems with
  • 00:38:23
Netflix Amazon and apple lurking it
  • 00:38:25
would make no sense with the NFL and not
  • 00:38:27
out but we'll see what happens and and
  • 00:38:30
like you said who knows what where
  • 00:38:32
networks will be in in four years it's
  • 00:38:35
like you said it's moving so fast I mean
  • 00:38:38
could you imagine Netflix getting uh
  • 00:38:41
getting NFL games uh like four or five
  • 00:38:44
years ago like like and and actually
  • 00:38:47
like bring in the audiences that they
  • 00:38:49
    did I that's well that's why I think
  • 00:38:52
this is all realistic because when you
  • 00:38:54
see what the audiences are on when you
  • 00:38:57
    the audience for Netflix on
  • 00:39:00
Christmas Amazon Prime each year seems
  • 00:39:03
to be getting more and more viewers for
  • 00:39:04
    Thursday night just seems inevitable
  • 00:39:07
with all that money they had that they'd
  • 00:39:09
want a piece of the pie yeah but then
  • 00:39:11
you know maybe they're they're getting
  • 00:39:12
the subscribers and they don't need as
  • 00:39:14
much content in order to to get them in
  • 00:39:18
    so I mean that's
  • 00:39:19
a that's if you're Amazon are you happy
  • 00:39:22
    enough with Thursday night football
  • 00:39:24
because if you're an NFL subscriber you
  • 00:39:26
got to you got to do Amazon Prime all
  • 00:39:28
the time why should I spend more to get
  • 00:39:30
    a better package when I'm I'm they're
  • 00:39:33
already coming in to see my Thursday
  • 00:39:34
    night football what incrementally how
  • 00:39:36
much more can you get all right well at
  • 00:39:39
least we don't have to worry about it
  • 00:39:40
    for four years
  • 00:39:41
so I have to worry about it that you
  • 00:39:44
just Define what I'm gonna be writing
  • 00:39:45
about for the next four years yeah all
  • 00:39:47
right so overall Fox Super Bowl
  • 00:39:50
    telecast was fine was good
  • 00:39:54
fine I I find it hard to actually put a
  • 00:39:56
grade to it just cuz like it was a
  • 00:39:58
blowout it's so hard you know I agree
  • 00:40:01
age uh one thing you didn't bring up I
  • 00:40:02
was expecting you to bring up my my uh
  • 00:40:05
    social
  • 00:40:07
feeds Furious to see the score bug yeah
  • 00:40:11
    here's how I know something's a disaster
  • 00:40:14
when I don't tweet about something and I
  • 00:40:16
get people bombarding me with what do
  • 00:40:18
you think of what do you think of what
  • 00:40:20
do you think of so you know I I wasn't
  • 00:40:22
on Twitter maybe for the first five
  • 00:40:24
minutes of the game because I'm trying
  • 00:40:26
    to
  • 00:40:27
get a feel for the game you know here
  • 00:40:30
Brady start you know the game I didn't
  • 00:40:31
check Twitter for maybe five 10 minutes
  • 00:40:33
and and then the first time I checked it
  • 00:40:35
into the game my whole it was just all
  • 00:40:37
people asking me about the score bug and
  • 00:40:39
ripping the score bug it's just too big
  • 00:40:41
it's just way too big it was fine if you
  • 00:40:43
could shrink it but it's too big yeah I
  • 00:40:45
    didn't I didn't mind the square bug I
  • 00:40:47
the thing about Square bugs to me is you
  • 00:40:48
get used to them eventually so you know
  • 00:40:50
right well that's true but smaller is
  • 00:40:53
better yeah I I I I could see where they
  • 00:40:55
would make it smaller it was very
  • 00:40:57
minimalist though I mean it was a and it
  • 00:41:00
showed it despite the fact that it was
  • 00:41:03
big I I still felt like I could see more
  • 00:41:05
of the screen you know like more more
  • 00:41:07
the the the action on the field but
  • 00:41:10
    here's what I don't understand this may
  • 00:41:11
be hard to explain on a on an audio
  • 00:41:14
podcast or when you don't see the
  • 00:41:15
graphic but like it it would have like
  • 00:41:17
you know K it would say KC and the score
  • 00:41:20
in a monster font and then next to it
  • 00:41:23
would be open space and then it would be
  • 00:41:27
like the clock I think and then open
  • 00:41:30
space and then F but why not just kill
  • 00:41:33
the open space and shrink it and then
  • 00:41:34
    it's smaller and I don't know I the
  • 00:41:38
score buug to me is someone saying look
  • 00:41:41
how fancy I can get look at me look at
  • 00:41:44
me look at me that's what the score
  • 00:41:45
there's someone out there like watch
  • 00:41:46
what I'm going to invent it it happens
  • 00:41:49
every Super Bowl every big event uh is
  • 00:41:52
an opportunity to just upgrade you know
  • 00:41:55
they don't want well that's go ahead I'm
  • 00:41:57
    sorry
  • 00:41:58
they don't want to have the same look
  • 00:41:59
for 30 years CU that become especially
  • 00:42:01
in TV that that just looks old and stale
  • 00:42:03
so it's you know it is almost more of a
  • 00:42:05
marketing aspect right but it also shows
  • 00:42:08
you and this has been my mantra for
  • 00:42:10
years and this is what sports fans need
  • 00:42:12
to understand the Super Bowl is not
  • 00:42:14
about the sports fan the NFL Fox CBS NBC
  • 00:42:18
they don't care about the NFL fan when
  • 00:42:21
it comes to the Super Bowl because if
  • 00:42:22
they cared about the NFL fan they
  • 00:42:24
wouldn't change the score bug for the
  • 00:42:26
final game the season and the most
  • 00:42:28
important game of the season and cause
  • 00:42:29
an upro about the scoreboard but they're
  • 00:42:31
interested in the 70 million people who
  • 00:42:33
don't watch football that decide to
  • 00:42:36
swoop in to watch Taylor Swift and Lady
  • 00:42:38
Gaga and Kendrick Lamar they don't give
  • 00:42:39
a about the person like you and me
  • 00:42:42
who are there every Sunday from
  • 00:42:43
September to January and that's what
  • 00:42:45
people have to understand but in if you
  • 00:42:48
think about it logically even take it
  • 00:42:49
outside of any like this is your biggest
  • 00:42:51
day of the year this is the last game of
  • 00:42:54
the year let's change it it doesn't
  • 00:42:56
that's ridiculous like no one would
  • 00:42:58
think that way in a normal setting but
  • 00:43:00
they don't care about the sport fan
  • 00:43:01
    who's watching the game so
  • 00:43:04
funny Sorry Sorry by the way I I I I've
  • 00:43:08
been a guest on enough podcasts I know
  • 00:43:09
I'm supposed to jump in but that was
  • 00:43:11
such an elite rant that I just wanted to
  • 00:43:13
let you go sorry I I appreciate it
  • 00:43:15
