00:00:04
hey what is up this is Josh McDermitt a
00:00:08
fun and exciting Photoshop tutorial
00:00:12
working in Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 and
00:00:16
today we're gonna look at every single
00:00:20
tool in the tool bar now if you want to
00:00:23
follow along we're going to go ahead and
00:00:25
go to window workspace make sure you're
00:00:28
on essentials and then you can also go
00:00:33
ahead and reset essentials just to make
00:00:36
sure on the same page and I like to work
00:00:39
a little bit differently at least for
00:00:41
today so what we're gonna do I'm gonna
00:00:43
take layers and I'm just gonna grab it
00:00:46
and drag it over here and just kind of
00:00:50
minimize everything else like so and the
00:00:58
first two were of course going to look
00:01:00
at is the move tool or V on the keyboard
00:01:05
that's the default shortcut and what we
00:01:09
can do with the move tool is if we have
00:01:11
an unlocked layer which in this case
00:01:12
this layer is locked so we're gonna
00:01:15
unlock that we can grab this layer and
00:01:17
just kind of drag it around simple as
00:01:20
that
00:01:22
probably the most used tool in Photoshop
00:01:26
the move tool next we're gonna look at
00:01:30
the artboard tool so you just hold down
00:01:33
on the move tool icon and you select the
00:01:36
next one down artboard and we're gonna
00:01:40
drag click and drag on our canvas and
00:01:46
you say it's made a new artboard now
00:01:48
what's the point of an artboard well you
00:01:51
can actually create more artboards and
00:01:54
just kind of make them go on forever and
00:01:58
the point of an artboard is just to have
00:02:01
different designs or photos in the same
00:02:04
canvas so you have one Photoshop file
00:02:07
and you can have all kinds of different
00:02:11
comp
00:02:11
in that Photoshop file so that's a
00:02:16
feature that it was brought over from
00:02:17
illustrator and it can be very handy if
00:02:20
you're doing multiple variations on the
00:02:25
same project next we're gonna go down to
00:02:29
the rectangular marquee tool or M on
00:02:32
your keyboard and what we can do with
00:02:36
that is we can just click and drag and
00:02:39
make a selection we can go and we can
00:02:44
create a new layer via copy we can
00:02:47
create a new layer via cut which should
00:02:49
we do that and hide that new layer you
00:02:54
can see we just completely cut that out
00:02:56
or we can hide the other layer and we're
00:03:02
left with that different things you can
00:03:04
do with that obviously we're going to
00:03:07
undo that next elliptical marquee tool
00:03:18
again a selection
00:03:20
except this time it's a circle so we can
00:03:25
cut that out using our keyboard commands
00:03:28
and paste it on to a new layer and now
00:03:34
you have a lovely circle cut out all
00:03:38
right we're gonna undo that and just to
00:03:43
reference this photo this photo was
00:03:44
actually taken by my wife Alicia for our
00:03:48
travel and adventure blog terror drift
00:03:51
and we also have a youtube channel so if
00:03:54
you want to check that out if you're
00:03:55
into that kind of thing go ahead and
00:03:57
check that out there's a link at the top
00:03:59
of the video there definitely check it
00:04:02
out subscribe and if you're into 360 we
00:04:06
recently did some 360 videos that are on
00:04:08
there that are pretty cool of the Grand
00:04:10
Canyon next we're going to take a look
00:04:13
at the single row marquee tool now what
00:04:16
this is is a selection tool that only
00:04:20
selects one pixel at a time except
00:04:23
because it's a single row wherever you
00:04:26
click it's going to select that row so
00:04:28
I'm going to zoom in really close you
00:04:32
can see it's only selected a single row
00:04:35
of pixels next there's a single column
00:04:42
marquee tool which does the exact same
00:04:43
thing except of course with a column or
00:04:48
vertically which makes a vertical
00:04:50
selection next we have the lasso tool
00:04:57
and the lasso tool is a selection tool
00:05:01
that allows you to freehand select so we
00:05:06
can just click and drag around these
00:05:08
folks right here or one of them and then
00:05:12
you have a very rough selection we can
00:05:14
then go back to our move tool and we can
00:05:22
actually just cut them straight out of
00:05:24
that and move them around
00:05:34
next we have the polygonal lasso tool
00:05:38
and what this does it's a freehand
00:05:43
more-or-less selection tool but instead
00:05:47
you have anchor points so by clicking
00:05:50
I've just created an anchor point and
00:05:52
then I'm gonna pull out my selection
00:05:56
tool and I'm gonna click again that
00:05:58
makes another anchor click again another
00:06:01
anchor and I can just keep going like
00:06:04
that all the way around and then again I
00:06:16
can go to my move tool and just cut them
00:06:18
straight out or I can paste them onto
00:06:22
another layer etc etc next we have a
00:06:27
magnetic lasso tool this one's really
00:06:30
cool so if we go to this rock right here
00:06:37
the magnetic lasso tool is going to
00:06:39
detect edges and so you can actually
00:06:42
click and it'll just try to find that
00:06:47
edge that contrasts and follow that all
00:06:50
the way down so you can see I made a
00:06:56
mistake right there it didn't hit the
00:06:58
rock
00:06:58
exactly so I'm going to hit my backspace
00:07:01
or my delete and it'll back up a little
00:07:04
ways and then I can go back and start
00:07:07
over again with a little bit more
00:07:13
accuracy this time and then once I've
00:07:18
gone all the way around
00:07:31
I click on the original anchor just to
00:07:34
close that selection and then I can cut
00:07:38
and paste that on a new layer drag it
00:07:42
around replace it with something else
00:07:45
whatever I want to do all right next
00:07:52
we're done with our lasso tools the next
00:07:55
tool is the quick selection tool now how
00:07:58
you use the quick selection tool is you
00:08:00
want to click and drag over something
00:08:03
that you want to select so let's say I
00:08:05
want to select this rock it's going to
00:08:07
attempt to roughly detect what area I
00:08:11
want to select and using contrasts and
00:08:14
Colour information it's going to try to
00:08:16
find the edges of that as you can see it
00:08:19
did not work terribly well here I'm
00:08:22
gonna deselect that let's find something
00:08:24
with a little bit more contrast and
00:08:26
let's try this rock down here so it more
00:08:36
or less selected that rock the top of
00:08:38
that rock there if we go to this logo
00:08:43
here we can actually try out thistle and
00:08:47
get a little bit better result because
00:08:50
these lines are so crisp so I'm going to
00:08:52
just click and drag there and as you can
00:08:55
see that solid color has now been
00:08:57
selected I'm going to deselect that and
00:09:00
go back to this image our next tool is
00:09:04
the magic wand tool now this works in a
00:09:08
similar fashion but it's a one-click
00:09:11
selection tool so for instance if we
00:09:15
wanted to select the sky let's just
00:09:18
single click and see what happens
00:09:20
so you can see because this is a
00:09:21
gradient the sky's gradient it's only
00:09:24
been able to detect one slice of that
00:09:28
similar color now we can up the
00:09:32
tolerance up here at the top I'll set it
00:09:35
to like 100 and we'll try it again
00:09:40
and now you can see it selected a much
00:09:44
wider range of colors but still within a
00:09:48
certain gamut so let's take that down to
00:09:51
50 and try it again
00:09:54
so now it's selected more of the sky
00:09:56
more of that blue color and again if we
00:10:02
go over to our logo and we do one click
00:10:05
you can see that it's selected those
00:10:09
colors again now you see it's actually
00:10:11
selected this here this o which is that
00:10:15
blue and if we hit contiguous up here
00:10:19
and we try that again you see that it's
00:10:24
selected within the bounds of this
00:10:27
object so it's not selected this o and
00:10:30
that's important to note in the future
00:10:34
so back to our image we're going to
00:10:36
deselect that we're done with our
00:10:39
selection tool there crop tool so the
00:10:44
crop tool obviously crops things so up
00:10:48
here we can select what ratio we want to
00:10:50
crop the image at we can select a width
00:10:53
a height and a resolution or we can
00:10:59
select a preset such as an
00:11:03
eight-and-a-half by 11 photo at 300 PPI
00:11:06
we select that we can just kind of drag
00:11:10
this around and if you have a keyboard
00:11:14
that has a number pad you can either hit
00:11:16
enter on the number pad or you can go up
00:11:18
here and hit the checkmark and it'll
00:11:22
crop that for you I'm gonna undo that
00:11:24
next up we have the perspective crop
00:11:27
tool now this is a really interesting
00:11:30
tool because what it does is once you
00:11:32
click and drag over what you want to
00:11:34
crop you can grab the anchor points on
00:11:37
the side and you can stretch them out
00:11:41
move them in out and what will happen is
00:11:47
let's say I want to make this
00:11:53
image crop this image to this plane I'm
00:11:59
gonna hit okay and it'll crop the image
00:12:04
and stretch it out to match that
00:12:07
perspective I'll do that really
00:12:12
interesting tool the slice tool you go
00:12:15
around and you can make selections and
00:12:18
you can see it's by clicking and
00:12:22
dragging you can make these slices this
00:12:26
is a tool that's used in web design and
00:12:30
I can slice up an image so that when I
00:12:34
save it it can be put back together in a
00:12:41
website kind of like a puzzle and then
00:12:44
if I go to my slice select tool which is
00:12:48
the next tool in there I can select this
00:12:51
particular slice that I made or if I
00:12:59
have multiple slices that I've made like
00:13:01
so I can use that slice select tool and
00:13:05
select them and move them around gonna
00:13:13
undo those changes next up we have the
00:13:17
eyedropper tool now the I bet dropper
00:13:20
tool can be used to select a color and
00:13:23
move it into your color palette so I'm
00:13:26
just gonna select that blue sky and you
00:13:30
can see down here in our color our
00:13:33
foreground color that's the color we've
00:13:36
just selected it's very handy if you
00:13:41
want to try to match a color or get an
00:13:46
idea for what the x value or RGB values
00:13:54
are for a particular color
00:14:00
we're gonna skip over the 3d material
00:14:02
eyedropper tool because we're not
00:14:04
working with anything 3d at the moment
00:14:06
but we're gonna go down to our color
00:14:08
sampler tool and if we just single click
00:14:12
you can see this little dialog comes up
00:14:15
and number one which is this is number
00:14:19
one here it gives us our RGB value for
00:14:23
that now if we click on the little
00:14:27
eyedropper in the dialog box we can
00:14:29
actually select if we want to see lab
00:14:32
color CMYK HSB web or grayscale also 32
00:14:38
and 16-bit
00:14:38
so that's a handy thing to note if
00:14:43
you're trying to sample multiple colors
00:14:45
to see what kind of a color scheme is or
00:14:47
something like that next we're going to
00:14:52
go to our ruler tool now the ruler tool
00:14:55
is handy if you're trying to measure the
00:14:57
distance between two objects so if we
00:14:59
zoom in here let's say we want to
00:15:01
measure between this person and these
00:15:03
people up here I'm just going to click
00:15:06
and drag and you can see the lion one we
00:15:09
have one thousand eight hundred and
00:15:10
seventy-three point three one pixels and
00:15:13
our angle is fifteen point three degrees
00:15:17
so it'll even tell you your angle there
00:15:20
let's go ahead and clear that and we'll
00:15:23
zoom back out now I'm going to free
00:15:27
transform this and just skew it ever so
00:15:31
slightly go back to our ruler tool and
00:15:37
let's say we took a photo at an angle
00:15:39
like this we don't necessarily want to
00:15:40
crop it but we want to straighten it out
00:15:42
well take your ruler tool click and drag
00:15:45
and try to match the horizon line with
00:15:50
the line that you're creating and then
00:15:53
up here at the top hit straighten layer
00:15:54
and it's gonna straighten that back out
00:15:58
don't get it quite perfect but you get
00:16:01
the idea alright next we have the note
00:16:03
tool now the note tool is great if
00:16:07
you're collaborating or you just want to
00:16:09
make a note for yourself
00:16:13
it'll just click here and this little
00:16:16
notes dialog comes up and we can say
00:16:19
remove these people then you have that
00:16:24
little note that whoever comes into this
00:16:27
Photoshop file they'll see that and they
00:16:28
can zoom in they can click on it and
00:16:31
they'll see the note here you can even
00:16:35
add an author up here at the top next we
00:16:42
have the count tool and I'm actually
00:16:45
going to go to another image for that so
00:16:49
the count tool is exactly what it sounds
00:16:51
like so let's say we want to count how
00:16:53
many computers and electronic devices we
00:16:55
have here so we're just going to click
00:16:57
and we have a little number one and
00:17:00
actually adjust the marker size quite a
00:17:03
bit and the label and we will change the
00:17:08
color so we can see it a little bit
00:17:11
better maybe something like Bart bright
00:17:15
red 2 3 4 5 6 so as you can see it's
00:17:25
very straightforward just a simple tool
00:17:29
for counting next we have this Spot
00:17:35
Healing Brush tool let's go back to our
00:17:40
New Zealand photo here and we're gonna
00:17:44
zoom in to these people here again make
00:17:49
sure I have my layer selected and with
00:17:51
this tool I'm just going to click and
00:17:55
drag over this person and as you can see
00:18:00
content-aware which is what the setting
00:18:03
is for this currently it filled in that
00:18:06
space with image data it collected from
00:18:09
the surrounding image so we're just
00:18:12
going to click and drag again over this
00:18:14
person and see if it does as good of a
00:18:17
job and sure enough they're gone and I
00:18:21
do have a reflection here that I'll take
00:18:23
care of real quick
00:18:27
not bad and sometimes if you click and
00:18:36
try to get out the rest of that image it
00:18:39
works alright I'm actually going to
00:18:42
switch to the Healing Brush tool which
00:18:44
is the next tool and this tool is based
00:18:47
on a selection that you make so I'm
00:18:50
going to hold alt on my keyboard
00:18:54
alt option click and make a selection in
00:18:59
the water here and then I'm going to use
00:19:01
that selection to try and get rid of
00:19:04
this reflection and what it's going to
00:19:09
do it's going to try to copy that
00:19:13
information over that person that
00:19:18
reflection and it worked moderately well
00:19:23
it's a little smudgy I actually like how
00:19:27
the Spot Healing Brush tool did that a
00:19:30
little bit better so I'm gonna go ahead
00:19:37
and undo all of that now let's move on
00:19:40
to our next tool the patch tool so with
00:19:44
the patch tool and zoom in to somebody
00:19:47
else it's kind of like the freehand
00:19:52
marquee tool we're gonna just draw
00:19:54
around these folks right here and you
00:19:57
have a choice you can either do source
00:19:59
or destination so I'm gonna select
00:20:01
source and what that's gonna do is
00:20:04
replace that selection with anything
00:20:09
that I dragged this other marquee on top
00:20:13
of and then it's gonna blend it so if I
00:20:18
deselect that you can see you can sort
00:20:21
of see the edges there but it's done a
00:20:23
pretty good job of getting rid of those
00:20:26
people I'm gonna undo that next I'm
00:20:30
going to select destination I'm going to
00:20:32
grab this
00:20:33
and as you can see I'm taking that image
00:20:38
and moving it someplace else so I'm
00:20:40
going to move them right here
00:20:43
and it's going to try to blend that as
00:20:46
best as it can so when I deselect it's
00:20:51
not a pretty good job of copying them
00:20:53
and blending the edges I'm going to undo
00:21:00
that next we have content aware move
00:21:03
tool now this is actually very similar
00:21:07
to the patch tool with a couple
00:21:10
different options now I'm going to drag
00:21:16
them over and hit OK now the difference
00:21:25
being that it literally moves whatever
00:21:28
you've moved and then replaces it with
00:21:31
content-aware fill undo that the red eye
00:21:39
tool now this should be fairly
00:21:41
self-explanatory we've had red eye tools
00:21:47
and software for ages I'm gonna take
00:21:50
this old photo of myself with some
00:21:51
serious red eye and I'm just gonna click
00:21:55
right on my people and it does a pretty
00:21:58
good job out of the box getting rid of
00:22:01
that red eye there's some pupil size and
00:22:04
darken amount settings here that you can
00:22:07
play with if it doesn't do what you want
00:22:09
right out of the box but that is the red
00:22:14
eye tool next we have the brush tool
00:22:17
very simple you have all kinds of
00:22:20
brushes you can select from you can
00:22:21
select the size the softness of the edge
00:22:24
on the brush right now it's down to
00:22:26
maximum softness if you will I'm going
00:22:33
to make a red brush and just paint
00:22:41
very simple very easy next we have the
00:22:45
pencil tool which reminds me of
00:22:48
something right out of Microsoft Paint
00:22:52
just a very rudimentary very basic kind
00:22:56
of tool for drawing alright so next
00:23:02
we're going to use alright so next we're
00:23:05
going to select the color replacement
00:23:06
tool and let's try a different image
00:23:11
here we're going to select bright red
00:23:20
and as you can see it's attempting to
00:23:23
find the edges on whatever I'm painting
00:23:27
and it's going to blend whatever color
00:23:30
I've selected with the current color go
00:23:37
ahead and undo that next we have the
00:23:44
mixer brush tool
00:23:56
and with our red still selected we'll
00:23:59
just drag over this and as you can see
00:24:03
it's trying to mix the two colors and
00:24:07
you even have a little bit of a natural
00:24:10
brush feel when you're doing that this
00:24:20
is a nice tool if you are doing some
00:24:23
digital painting next we have the clone
00:24:30
stamp tool we're gonna go back to this
00:24:33
image and to make a selection with the
00:24:36
clone stamp tool I am going to hold alt
00:24:39
click right on that guy's head and as
00:24:42
you can see it's giving me a preview of
00:24:46
what I'm cloning so I'll just click and
00:24:50
drag and paint them into place over here
00:24:57
so of course with your brush settings
00:25:00
you can again control the hardness and
00:25:03
the size and there are a lot of other
00:25:07
things that I won't go over now that you
00:25:09
can try like sampling all layers and
00:25:11
that sort of thing and I do that next we
00:25:15
have the pattern stamp tool and we find
00:25:20
a different image here and let's say for
00:25:25
some strange reason I'm gonna make a new
00:25:27
layer by the way for some strange reason
00:25:30
I want a pattern all over my face well
00:25:32
let's select a pattern and then I'm
00:25:37
gonna just click and drag this pattern
00:25:41
on my face and it's just gonna paint
00:25:43
right on top of my face now since I have
00:25:47
this on a new layer I'm going to go to
00:25:49
my blending modes and I'm gonna select
00:25:52
multiply and that's going to make
00:25:55
everything that is bright translucent
00:25:59
and then I'm going to take the opacity
00:26:03
down quite a bit and then for some
00:26:08
reason I have
00:26:09
this pattern all over my face not sure
00:26:11
why exactly but there it is next we have
00:26:14
the history brush tool so let's say that
00:26:18
you made a few modifications let's use
00:26:22
the Spot Healing Brush tool say we get
00:26:26
rid of these guys and we'll get rid of
00:26:28
this guy but you decide that you really
00:26:30
only wanted to make a change by ticking
00:26:34
those people on the top of the hill out
00:26:37
so let's grab our history brush tool and
00:26:40
just click right on top of those people
00:26:43
there and they're back and it's left
00:26:47
this area undisturbed that guy further
00:26:50
down the hill that we erased let's undo
00:26:52
that next we have the art history brush
00:26:55
tool now this is a really interesting
00:26:56
tool that I don't really use but what it
00:26:59
does is it kind of artifice if you will
00:27:02
the image that you're working on so you
00:27:05
have different styles that you can
00:27:07
select from I'm gonna select dab and I'm
00:27:10
just going to work on the sky here and
00:27:16
it's just gonna kind of DAB that sky for
00:27:21
me
00:27:30
and I'm gonna click and drag over this
00:27:33
area and it's gonna take the colors the
00:27:37
primary colors that it detects from your
00:27:40
image and it's going to create this kind
00:27:47
of artistic rendering of course I don't
00:27:53
pretend to have any finesse when it
00:27:55
comes to this tool so I'm just gonna
00:27:58
leave it at that
00:27:58
play with it see if you like it next up
00:28:04
is the eraser tool and guess what it
00:28:06
erases things but you can also go up
00:28:08
here to your brushes and you can change
00:28:10
the hardness have softer edges when your
00:28:14
erase you can also change the flow the
00:28:20
smoothness next up we have the
00:28:24
background eraser tool and we're gonna
00:28:27
go to our logo for this and if I just
00:28:31
try to forget right on that edge you can
00:28:36
see that it's detecting that edge and
00:28:39
it's only erasing everything behind it
00:28:47
or next to it snow
00:28:56
oh I made a mistake there
00:29:03
so if the brush goes on top of that
00:29:06
object too much then it will start
00:29:08
erasing it because it thinks you're
00:29:10
targeting it so that's the background
00:29:13
eraser tool next we have the magic
00:29:15
eraser tool and this is kind of similar
00:29:19
to the magic wand tool so it detects
00:29:24
edges and colors contrast basically and
00:29:28
it'll erase whatever you're clicking on
00:29:31
and you can change the tolerance of
00:29:35
course or if we just click on the white
00:29:43
undo that let's uncheck contiguous try
00:29:47
it again
00:29:47
and now you see it's erase the entire
00:29:49
background all right so we're moving
00:29:53
right along next we have the gradient
00:29:56
tool now if you're a photographer you
00:30:02
may use a graduated filter from time to
00:30:04
time but inside of Photoshop you can
00:30:07
also use a gradient to replicate this
00:30:10
filter I'm going to create a new layer
00:30:13
make sure my colors are black and white
00:30:15
there and I'm gonna click and drag from
00:30:18
the top of my image all the way to the
00:30:20
bottom and then I'm going to go to my
00:30:25
blending modes and set this to multiply
00:30:28
and as you can see it's made the top
00:30:33
very dark all the way to black and then
00:30:36
gets light again so I'm going to
00:30:39
decrease my opacity and if you have a
00:30:45
really bright sky and you want to try to
00:30:47
even it out a little bit you can use
00:30:49
this technique I'll delete that
00:30:55
otherwise you have some other settings
00:30:57
here you have a radial gradient an angle
00:31:01
gradient a reflected gradient and a
00:31:08
diamond gradient very cool stuff next we
00:31:11
have the paint bucket tool and let's go
00:31:14
back to our logo let's say I want to
00:31:16
change this
00:31:17
grounds very quickly we'll go ahead and
00:31:21
select now let's select red just for fun
00:31:26
and we'll just single click and as you
00:31:30
can see it's changed the whole
00:31:31
background to red and if we hit our
00:31:35
contiguous setting there radial button
00:31:37
click these two spots of light three
00:31:42
spots of white have not been touched
00:31:45
next we have the 3d material drop tool
00:31:48
but since we're not working with 3d
00:31:49
materials we're gonna skip that and move
00:31:52
on to our blur tool so we're gonna go to
00:31:57
this image let's say you know what I
00:31:59
don't know who this is
00:32:01
I'm gonna blur his face out I'm just
00:32:04
gonna click and move my mouse back and
00:32:08
forth over his face and it's going to
00:32:12
blur that out and the more I move back
00:32:16
and forth over that object it's gonna
00:32:19
blur it out more and more very nice I'm
00:32:27
gonna undo that next we have the sharpen
00:32:31
tool let's say you know what I want to
00:32:33
sharpen up these eyes a little bit let's
00:32:35
go ahead and click on those a couple
00:32:39
times you can see it's it really
00:32:42
sharpens the detail ups the contrast a
00:32:48
bit
00:32:54
next we have the smudge tool so you say
00:32:58
you know what I actually want this guy
00:33:00
to look a little bit like oh I don't
00:33:04
know
00:33:04
a vampire or pixie or something I'm just
00:33:08
going to take the smudge tool and I'm
00:33:11
going to click and drag on his ear right
00:33:14
here
00:33:14
give them some funky pointed ears and
00:33:19
[Music]
00:33:22
pull his nose out a little bit and maybe
00:33:26
lengthen his mouth now you can see that
00:33:30
this is entirely destructive it's really
00:33:32
blurred the skin so not a great way to
00:33:35
use this tool a better tool to use would
00:33:38
be under filter liquify but that is a
00:33:43
tool for a different show all right next
00:33:46
we're going to go to the Dodge tool so
00:33:52
if we zoom in to these eyes again you
00:33:57
can see if I click and drag over those
00:34:01
eyes the Dodge tool is actually going to
00:34:04
increase the brightness of those eyes so
00:34:11
it's kind of like a spot treatment
00:34:17
whiten the teeth a bit that is super
00:34:20
creepy but that is what that tool does
00:34:23
so I'm just gonna undo that next we have
00:34:28
the burn tool the burn tool does the
00:34:31
exact opposite of the Dodge tool so I'm
00:34:37
just gonna get in the eyes right there
00:34:40
click and drag
00:34:51
zoom back out and now I have creepy
00:34:53
black ice so it's just a tool for
00:34:58
darkening can darken my scalp slightly
00:35:07
alright next we have the sponge tool and
00:35:11
there are two different modes for the
00:35:13
sponge tool you can desaturate or
00:35:15
saturate so let's say I'm looking a
00:35:18
little pale I can saturate the skin spot
00:35:23
saturate the skin a little bit I'm gonna
00:35:28
make those cheeks a little more rosy or
00:35:34
I can change this to desaturate and
00:35:41
totally desaturate the eyes
00:35:44
for instance next we have the pen tool
00:35:48
so let's go back to our logo so with my
00:35:52
logo let's say that I want to take this
00:35:54
JPEG and I want to turn it into a vector
00:35:58
shape so the first step I'm gonna take
00:36:02
my pen I'm gonna click at the top of my
00:36:04
logo right at that point and then I'm
00:36:07
gonna click again at the bottom of this
00:36:09
curve but I'm gonna hold that and I'm
00:36:13
gonna drag out and you can see it's
00:36:16
creating a curve there I'm gonna match
00:36:20
the curve up the logo and then I'm gonna
00:36:23
release next I'm going to hold alt I'm
00:36:26
gonna straighten it out make it match my
00:36:28
logo and then I'm gonna click down here
00:36:33
at this point to create another Anchor
00:36:35
Point and I'm just going to do this very
00:36:38
quickly
00:36:47
now we have a couple options we can
00:36:49
right click we can say I want to make a
00:36:52
selection out of that there's your
00:36:54
selection or I can say I want to define
00:36:58
a custom shape
00:37:00
so there's your shape you can save it
00:37:03
and it'll be inside of Photoshop for you
00:37:06
to use at a later time and underneath
00:37:10
the pen tool there are a lot of other
00:37:11
tools that you can use however if you go
00:37:16
down here past the text tool to the path
00:37:19
selection tool you can take that path
00:37:23
and just move it around easily or you
00:37:28
can use the direct selection tool and if
00:37:31
we click off of that for a second we can
00:37:34
change the path anchor points and create
00:37:43
something entirely different so we're
00:37:48
going to delete that next we're going to
00:37:50
go to the horizontal type tool that's
00:37:54
exactly what it sounds like I'm just
00:37:55
going to click and start typing you can
00:38:03
switch to the move tool and just move
00:38:06
that around delete that next we have the
00:38:13
vertical type tool again exactly what it
00:38:15
sounds like
00:38:25
now what about these other two tools the
00:38:27
vertical type and horizontal type mask
00:38:29
tools well let's try the horizontal mask
00:38:32
tool
00:38:37
and we're gonna hit okay and as you see
00:38:40
it's just made a selection in the shape
00:38:44
of the text so then by going to our
00:38:48
select menu we can go down to transform
00:38:54
selection and that will allow us to move
00:38:56
this around hit OK and now we can do a
00:39:03
couple different things we could add a
00:39:04
mask to this layer or if we undo that we
00:39:11
can hit delete or backspace on our
00:39:13
keyboard deselect that and as you see
00:39:18
it's cut those letters out of our image
00:39:24
moving on from the text tool we have the
00:39:28
shape tools the rectangle tool you can
00:39:34
fill it with any color you like you can
00:39:38
also add a stroke to it or just an
00:39:41
outline if you will you can adjust this
00:39:45
size of the outline so right now our
00:39:47
hand have it at 10 pixels and we're just
00:39:50
going to click and drag and there's our
00:39:53
shape now if you'd like to create a
00:39:58
perfect square with this selected just
00:40:01
hold shift and drag and there's your
00:40:04
square next you have the rounded
00:40:08
rectangle tool and if you go over to the
00:40:12
radius here that's going to change how
00:40:15
rounded the corners are so we're gonna
00:40:19
leave it at 100 and we're gonna click
00:40:21
and drag and as you see we have a
00:40:28
hundred pixel radius on that corner
00:40:31
delete that ellipse tool create circles
00:40:38
if you hold shift you can make a perfect
00:40:41
circle
00:40:44
next we have the polygon tool so if you
00:40:48
go up here to sides you can select how
00:40:50
many sides you like your shape to have
00:40:52
so if we type in 3 click and drag we can
00:40:56
create a triangle or if we add five we
00:41:05
can create a Pentagon or you can add 20
00:41:19
next we have the line tool and on the
00:41:22
line tool this is based on weight so if
00:41:26
we have a 50 pixel weighted line I'm
00:41:31
actually going to take the stroke off of
00:41:33
this one there's our 50 pixel line or we
00:41:40
can do a 5 pixel line there's our 5
00:41:43
pixel line custom shapes these are
00:41:50
shapes that you've either imported or
00:41:52
are built inside of Photoshop Photoshop
00:41:56
comes with all these shapes and a bunny
00:42:01
rabbit here
00:42:09
and as you can see each shape has anchor
00:42:12
points so that you can mess around with
00:42:14
so I can go to my direct selection tool
00:42:19
and just grab one of these anchor points
00:42:22
and pull it out and modify these shapes
00:42:25
as I choose next we have the hand tool
00:42:33
now the hand tool its whole purpose is
00:42:36
to move your canvas around very simple
00:42:45
rotate view tool let's zoom out a little
00:42:51
bit so let's say oh well I wonder what
00:42:54
this logo would look like if it were
00:42:56
sideways well you can take this tool and
00:43:00
rotate it and if you hold shift while
00:43:03
you rotate it'll actually lock into I
00:43:07
believe it's 15 degree increments
00:43:09
something like that so there it is on
00:43:14
its side and then you can also reset the
00:43:19
view next you have the magnifying glass
00:43:24
or the zoom tool by default it's a
00:43:29
magnifying glass so you just click on
00:43:32
what you want to magnify if you hold alt
00:43:36
option on your keyboard you can click
00:43:39
and it will D magnify or zoom out next
00:43:46
we have our color panel here these
00:43:51
little guys here they will change your
00:43:54
colors back to the default black
00:43:56
foreground white background colors you
00:43:59
can also do this by hitting D on your
00:44:01
keyboard and if you'd like to switch the
00:44:03
foreground and background colors you can
00:44:05
hit X below that we have the quick
00:44:12
selection mask tool so once you have
00:44:16
that selected go ahead and take a brush
00:44:19
and you can brush
00:44:23
overtop of whatever you want to mask out
00:44:28
and then if you click that again it'll
00:44:33
give you a selection and then let's go
00:44:37
down here to the layers panel and hit
00:44:40
add layer mask and it'll mask that out
00:44:47
lastly we have some view options we have
00:44:49
standard screen mode full screen mode
00:44:51
with menu bar and full screen mode now I
00:44:54
usually just choose F for these because
00:44:55
that's the keyboard shortcut now if we
00:44:59
hit F once you can see we still have our
00:45:01
toolbars but the user interface is
00:45:04
slimmed down significantly if we hit it
00:45:07
again
00:45:07
we have full screen mode this might be
00:45:10
handy if you're painting and what little
00:45:11
as a little distraction is possible hey
00:45:15
guys thanks for watching that's all for
00:45:17
now be sure to subscribe and hit the
00:45:19
little bell so you get notifications of
00:45:22
future tutorials and if you enjoyed this
00:45:24
video please give it a like and let me
00:45:27
know what is your favorite tool in
00:45:30
Photoshop we'll see you next time
00:45:33
[Music]
00:45:38
you
