    Boston I had no idea what to expect a

    mix of fear nervousness and enthusiasm

    catapulted me through that dorm room

    door at the time I actually felt
  • 00:06:55
    lonely I thought about four years of
  • 00:06:57
    high school in which I felt like an
  • 00:06:59
    Outsider and wondered if my
  • 00:07:01
    undergraduate experience would be
  • 00:07:03
    another lonely 4 years for any of you
  • 00:07:06
    who are introverts like me you may know
  • 00:07:09
    this feeling I was also disillusioned
  • 00:07:12
    with a fundamentally unjust World

    sitting alone I wondered why am I here

    why are we here what is our purpose I

    certainly hadn't found mine yet but I

    drew Hope from two sources

    community and

    education community and

    Education First on community I took the

    leap to reach out of my comfort zone and

    build friendships on campus and we ended

    up co-founding MCN in our dorm rooms our

    first social impact events were very
  • 00:07:48
    small we struggled to get people to show
  • 00:07:50
    up if you ever wonder if your small acts
  • 00:07:54
    make a difference you should know that

    you the thousands of Millennium fellows

    convening together to today that this

    program started over a decade ago with

    an inaugural class of just 11 Millennium

    learned that education happens both

    inside and outside the classroom I read

    two books as an undergraduate that

    changed my life the book mountains

    Beyond mountains told me the story of

    Paul Farmer who stole Medical flies from

    Harvard brought them to Haiti

    volunteered and became a doctor working

    for 35 years in a dozen countries to

    help shape the movement for Public

    Health Equity I then read the end of

    poverty by The Economist Jeffrey Sachs

    at the End of This Book was a checklist

    eight steps every person could take

    locally to do their part to make the

    global goals reality reaching out beyond

    the classroom gave these books special

    meaning friends and I reached out to

    these leaders I mentioned and learned

    how to build relationships and networks

    weeks I discovered the field of

    education and climate law when I met a

    small but Fierce group of older students

    on our campus who were working to create

    more educational opportunities for law

    students interested in climate and

    sustainability they had realized that

    classes in this field were offered

    rarely a phenomenon taking place not

    only in our University but in a lot of

    other German law faculties as well

    however are becoming increasingly

    important topics for legal practitioners

    regardless of whether they work as

    lawyers in court in Academia or in the

    by important and sometimes difficult

    many moments when I clearly felt my lack
