LITERATURA DEL COSTUMBRISMO: Características, géneros, temas y autores
- 00:00:00[Music]
- 00:00:11great so i would like to welcome you to
- 00:00:14our presentation about slovakia and how
- 00:00:18to get a scholarship stay
- 00:00:20to our beautiful as we call it little
- 00:00:23big country
- 00:00:24but firstly let me introduce myself and
- 00:00:28the agency that i work for
- 00:00:31uh my name is magdalena nice to meet you
- 00:00:34and i work for slovak academic
- 00:00:36information agency
- 00:00:38which is a national agency that promotes
- 00:00:41education in slovakia and we are a
- 00:00:45non-profit and non-governmental
- 00:00:47we have been in slovakia for 30 years
- 00:00:50and we aim to strengthen the civic
- 00:00:53society
- 00:00:54via
- 00:00:56internationalization of science and
- 00:00:58education
- 00:00:59which simply means that we want foreign
- 00:01:01students and researchers to come to
- 00:01:04slovakia and enrich our
- 00:01:07education and society with their new uh
- 00:01:10insights and perspectives
- 00:01:13so basically we want you to come to
- 00:01:15studies of slovakia
- 00:01:17and let me tell you why
- 00:01:19a slovakia is a little country in the
- 00:01:22center of europe
- 00:01:24or we like to call it in the heart of
- 00:01:26europe
- 00:01:28and it is not to me not to be mixed up
- 00:01:31with slovenia which is also a country in
- 00:01:34fairly center of europe
- 00:01:36and actually those
- 00:01:39two names are so similar that
- 00:01:41and that is a fact that slovak and
- 00:01:44slovenian embassy have to meet on a
- 00:01:47regular basis
- 00:01:48like maybe once in a several months to
- 00:01:51exchange wrongly addressed mail like
- 00:01:54letters or
- 00:01:56something that you get from post office
- 00:01:58so that is a fun fact
- 00:02:01are some basic facts about slovakia
- 00:02:04um there is fine 5.4 million inhabitants
- 00:02:08in our country
- 00:02:10we are a parliamentary democracy and a
- 00:02:13member of uh european union and as well
- 00:02:16a member of the schengen area which
- 00:02:18means that you can freely move around
- 00:02:21the whole of europe if you
- 00:02:24come to slovakia and we used to be a
- 00:02:26part of czechoslovakia until 1993 so
- 00:02:29maybe the word czechoslovakia
- 00:02:32might ring a bell to you
- 00:02:35now we are a separate and independent
- 00:02:37country
- 00:02:39and our currency is euro
- 00:02:41and as i already said we are a member of
- 00:02:43schengen area
- 00:02:46which is uh quite um i would say um
- 00:02:50very efficient and really nice to
- 00:02:54be in a country like that because when
- 00:02:56you come
- 00:02:57to slovakia in our currency is euro you
- 00:03:00can for example go to
- 00:03:02uh the country just across the borders
- 00:03:04for example austria and you can pay with
- 00:03:07the same currency you don't have to
- 00:03:09exchange any money and you can go there
- 00:03:11without any
- 00:03:12um
- 00:03:14any problems at the border
- 00:03:18so this is a little map of slovakia as
- 00:03:21you can see we are surrounded by poland
- 00:03:23czech republic austria and hungary
- 00:03:26and our capital city is the most western
- 00:03:34and now you can see in a little bit of
- 00:03:37perspective
- 00:03:38and i think that our location is really
- 00:03:41great because if you for example want to
- 00:03:43go for a trip from bratislava to for
- 00:03:45example prague vienna or budapest which
- 00:03:49are um
- 00:03:51world famous metropolis
- 00:03:53you just have to spend maybe from one to
- 00:03:56three hours in a car
- 00:03:58which is a great uh
- 00:04:01you know
- 00:04:02great time to spend just traveling and
- 00:04:04then you are there so maybe even for a
- 00:04:06day trip
- 00:04:09so
- 00:04:10now i would like to tell you some more
- 00:04:12interesting
- 00:04:15sorry
- 00:04:16i've got input from the audience that
- 00:04:17the powerpoint of course isn't working
- 00:04:23uh you cannot see the presentation no
- 00:04:25it's just in the pitch one
- 00:04:30which one sorry
- 00:04:32still in in the coffer the pitch one
- 00:04:38it it hasn't been moved
- 00:04:41still stays in the same page the first
- 00:04:43page oh sorry and okay uh i don't know
- 00:04:45why
- 00:04:49i i can try to stop sharing and try to
- 00:04:53share it again
- 00:04:55okay sorry i didn't know thank you for
- 00:04:57the feedback
- 00:05:00okay i will just try to share my screen
- 00:05:02not
- 00:05:03just
- 00:05:04the presentation and see if it
- 00:05:07works
- 00:05:08better can you see now
- 00:05:12yes it's no basic tracks
- 00:05:145.4 million yes so you can try to turn
- 00:05:17yes yes it is working
- 00:05:20is everyone now seeing it moving
- 00:05:23yes it's moving
- 00:05:24now the map and now a slide with four
- 00:05:26pictures
- 00:05:30yes
- 00:05:31great
- 00:05:33so uh
- 00:05:34would the participants like to go over
- 00:05:37it with me again or is it okay if i
- 00:05:39continue from this slide
- 00:05:46you can even say it out loud if you wish
- 00:05:53okay so maybe i will just show you for a
- 00:05:55little bit of the slides as i already
- 00:05:58told you there are 5.4 million
- 00:06:00inhabitants we are democracy we have uh
- 00:06:04euro as a currency we used to be a part
- 00:06:06of czechoslovakia
- 00:06:08and this is a little map so you have
- 00:06:11some idea of what slovakia is
- 00:06:14it's a country and for the most part we
- 00:06:17are covered by mountains and lowlands
- 00:06:20and we have a lot of rivers and lakes
- 00:06:23and now here as i said you can see
- 00:06:26bratislava at the most western part of
- 00:06:29the country at vienna prague and
- 00:06:31budapest are just one to three hours
- 00:06:34right away
- 00:06:36so i hope that you can already and still
- 00:06:39see the slides and the presentation is
- 00:06:41working again
- 00:06:45okay i hope there is no complaint so
- 00:06:48yep okay
- 00:06:50great
- 00:06:51so uh let me now tell you some
- 00:06:53interesting facts about slovakia and uh
- 00:06:56convince you that really coming to
- 00:06:58slovakia is a good idea
- 00:07:10due to our location which is in the
- 00:07:12center of europe
- 00:07:14we have always been on the crossroads of
- 00:07:17cultures and on of the historical events
- 00:07:21and we have also crossed all the
- 00:07:23historical milestones of europe
- 00:07:26and sometimes for the worse and
- 00:07:28sometimes for the better as you probably
- 00:07:30know um after the second world war
- 00:07:34we have been a part of the soviet union
- 00:07:37and uh we had
- 00:07:41nearly half a century of communism
- 00:07:45and from that
- 00:07:48we inherited for example even the
- 00:07:50buildings that you can see the typical
- 00:07:53blocks of flats that were built during
- 00:07:56the communist era
- 00:07:58and we also inherited um
- 00:08:01civic society
- 00:08:03and ideas ideas that we can always
- 00:08:06protest when something is wrong
- 00:08:08so we have passed from communism to
- 00:08:11independence in a matter of
- 00:08:13um half a century
- 00:08:15and that is that is very interesting to
- 00:08:18see in the
- 00:08:19um in the historical surroundings that
- 00:08:21you see when you come to slovakia but
- 00:08:23also in the minds of people
- 00:08:28except of our history we have
- 00:08:30breathtaking nature as i already said
- 00:08:34our country is for the most part covered
- 00:08:36in mountain ranges and with that nature
- 00:08:40comes also wildlife because we have more
- 00:08:42than
- 00:08:4410 natural preserves and you can see
- 00:08:48a great variety of wild animals there
- 00:08:53and maybe you uh have already heard
- 00:08:55about our most famous mountains which
- 00:08:57you can see on the pictures they are
- 00:08:59called high tetras
- 00:09:01and they are on the northern part of our
- 00:09:04country on the borders with poland so if
- 00:09:07you come to slovakia it's really easy
- 00:09:10to go somewhere for a hike or for a walk
- 00:09:13in nature because at any point nature is
- 00:09:16maybe like
- 00:09:1810 minutes to 30 minutes 30 minutes away
- 00:09:20from you even if you live in the capital
- 00:09:24we are also a country that is filled
- 00:09:27with castles actually we hold a world
- 00:09:30record for that because we have the most
- 00:09:33number of castles per capita in our
- 00:09:35country which is maybe like more than
- 00:09:38600 castles in slovakia
- 00:09:41and those castles are not fun to see
- 00:09:44from outside but only also from the
- 00:09:46inside because they are a great
- 00:09:48historical inheritance
- 00:09:51and when you come there there you feel
- 00:09:54like a prince or princess in a maybe
- 00:09:57in a in a fairy tale
- 00:10:01except
- 00:10:02castles and mountains you can also visit
- 00:10:05a lot of caves in slovakia because we
- 00:10:08have
- 00:10:10many many caves that are accessible for
- 00:10:13public even a cave that has stalactites
- 00:10:16and stalagmites made from made from ice
- 00:10:19as you can see
- 00:10:20on the left
- 00:10:22upper part of the slide
- 00:10:27as i already said with history comes
- 00:10:30also historical inheritance and we also
- 00:10:33have for many world heritage sites in
- 00:10:35slovakia including the castle that you
- 00:10:37can see here on the picture and that is
- 00:10:39the biggest
- 00:10:40uh castle in the central europe
- 00:10:44and believe me when i say when you go
- 00:10:46there it's breathtaking
- 00:10:49except castles and nature we also have
- 00:10:51many historical towns
- 00:10:53uh many historical uh monuments and
- 00:10:56buildings for example like the blue
- 00:10:58church
- 00:10:59or
- 00:11:00the famous mining towns in the center of
- 00:11:02slovakia that are very beautiful because
- 00:11:06uh in the past the mining and the mining
- 00:11:09industry and the precious metals brought
- 00:11:12them wealth
- 00:11:13so when you go there you feel like
- 00:11:16you are um
- 00:11:18200 years back in the past
- 00:11:22and also uh we have to mention our
- 00:11:24gastronomy which is mainly based on
- 00:11:27milk and a cheese as historically
- 00:11:30slovakia has been a country
- 00:11:33where
- 00:11:34people would have a lot of sheep and
- 00:11:38mainly in the northern part of the
- 00:11:40country there were a lot of shepherds so
- 00:11:42our gastronomy is made
- 00:11:45basically on cheese flour
- 00:11:47potatoes
- 00:11:50and
- 00:11:52things like this for example even poppy
- 00:11:55which is
- 00:11:57banned in some countries
- 00:12:01and on the
- 00:12:03bottom left part of the slide you can
- 00:12:06see the meal which is called halushki
- 00:12:10is the most famous meal of slovakia
- 00:12:12maybe you heard about that and it's made
- 00:12:14of
- 00:12:16pasta which is similar to gnocchi in
- 00:12:18italy and then you mix it with sheep
- 00:12:21cheese and top it with bacon and if you
- 00:12:23come to slovakia you have to try it
- 00:12:27and of course alcar culture is also very
- 00:12:31rich
- 00:12:32we have some inheritance in the fold
- 00:12:35folk culture folk dances and folk
- 00:12:37singing but also maybe you didn't know
- 00:12:40that andy warhol comes from slovakia and
- 00:12:43he even has a museum dedicated to him in
- 00:12:47the
- 00:12:48little village that he was born in
- 00:12:53and except all of that that i just said
- 00:12:55we are not crowded we have
- 00:12:58many areas with excellent air quality
- 00:13:01and 30 of our surface is covered in
- 00:13:04forests and we are as safe as germany
- 00:13:07sweden belgium or netherlands
- 00:13:10so i hope that all of these facts
- 00:13:13convinced you that slovakia is really
- 00:13:15worth visiting
- 00:13:17and
- 00:13:18now i told you why you should visit
- 00:13:20slovakia by why should you study here or
- 00:13:22do your research here well basically we
- 00:13:25have a few points to convince you with
- 00:13:28and first is location because as i
- 00:13:30already said when you come to slovakia
- 00:13:32the door to all of europe is open to you
- 00:13:36we have loved low tuition fees
- 00:13:39and with that also high quality
- 00:13:41education in many highly ranked
- 00:13:43universities
- 00:13:45so how is the slovak higher education
- 00:13:47system
- 00:13:48well it's very similar to other european
- 00:13:52countries but basically if you want to
- 00:13:54come to study at the university you
- 00:13:56start with a bachelor degree which
- 00:13:58usually takes for three to four years
- 00:14:01and the four years if you study
- 00:14:03architecture arts or design then you
- 00:14:06continue with master which usually takes
- 00:14:08from one to three years or five to six
- 00:14:11years if you study medicine veterinary
- 00:14:13medicine or pharmacy and then if you
- 00:14:16wish to
- 00:14:17you
- 00:14:18come to study doctorate
- 00:14:20and that is from three to four years
- 00:14:23and if you have any questions you can
- 00:14:25just stop me and raise your hand and ask
- 00:14:27them
- 00:14:30we offer our education in
- 00:14:3420 public three state and 11 private uh
- 00:14:38universities in slovakia and together
- 00:14:42they offer more than 400 study programs
- 00:14:45offered in english language or other
- 00:14:47foreign languages
- 00:14:51and
- 00:14:52of course when it comes to education and
- 00:14:54studying in slovakia you must ask a
- 00:14:57question
- 00:14:58that how much does it cost
- 00:15:00so
- 00:15:01to tell you simply students studying
- 00:15:03full-time in slovakia
- 00:15:05in slovak language pay no tuition fees
- 00:15:08and it's a legal requirement that
- 00:15:13education in slavic language is free of
- 00:15:15charge for people who study in slovak
- 00:15:18language
- 00:15:19and if you come to study in a foreign
- 00:15:21language you do pay tuition fees but
- 00:15:24they vary from maybe 500 euros to 12 000
- 00:15:29euros per year but don't worry the
- 00:15:31higher end of um tuition fees is not
- 00:15:34that common and it's mainly
- 00:15:37with the programs like medicine or
- 00:15:40veterinary medicine
- 00:15:44and um
- 00:15:45when we are talking about money and
- 00:15:47tuition fees you also must probably
- 00:15:50wonder how
- 00:15:52expensive is it to live in slovakia well
- 00:15:55even though we are as safe as maybe
- 00:15:57belgium germany or netherlands we are
- 00:16:00not that expensive and it also depends
- 00:16:04on the lifestyle that you lead so for
- 00:16:07example for food you may pay from 100 to
- 00:16:11250 euros per month depending on if you
- 00:16:15cook your own food or you eat in a
- 00:16:17restaurant
- 00:16:21we have a question that if it's there
- 00:16:23any scholarship and yes of course there
- 00:16:25is and we will get
- 00:16:27uh to that in a minute
- 00:16:29and for accommodation in a private
- 00:16:31apartment you may pay around 300 euros
- 00:16:35but even
- 00:16:36lower
- 00:16:37if you for example share a room or also
- 00:16:40depends on the city that you live in
- 00:16:43but for dormitory you may pay from
- 00:16:4780 euros per month and even lower in
- 00:16:50some cities
- 00:16:51so if you live in a dorm for example
- 00:16:53during your scholarship stays
- 00:16:56it is not
- 00:16:57very expensive it's quite
- 00:17:00well priced
- 00:17:02and for internet or tv you pay from 10
- 00:17:04to 20 euros per month
- 00:17:06and that is probably if you live in a
- 00:17:08private apartment but for example if you
- 00:17:11do live in a dorm
- 00:17:13the
- 00:17:13internet is already
- 00:17:16provided to you
- 00:17:21and if you wish to work alongside your
- 00:17:23studies you can do so because students
- 00:17:25in slovakia can work up to 20 hours per
- 00:17:28week legally
- 00:17:29and there is a small tip for you that
- 00:17:32after graduation you can extend your
- 00:17:35residence permit up to nine months to in
- 00:17:38order to find a job or start a business
- 00:17:40in slovakia
- 00:17:41if you like it here which i hope you
- 00:17:44would
- 00:17:46and if you are interested in all of this
- 00:17:48information i just told you uh you don't
- 00:17:52have to remember it just now you can
- 00:17:54also go to our website
- 00:17:59i a dot www.saia.edu k
- 00:18:00and choose the language variation in
- 00:18:02english and in this section publications
- 00:18:06you can find uh our guides for foreign
- 00:18:09students
- 00:18:10and you can find there all the
- 00:18:12information you need about slovakia and
- 00:18:15also
- 00:18:16the middle one study programs offered in
- 00:18:18foreign languages offers an overview of
- 00:18:20all of the study programs that you can
- 00:18:23choose from if you would like to come to
- 00:18:25slovakia for a whole full study or even
- 00:18:30for a study stay with a scholarship
- 00:18:34so as i told you our website is
- 00:18:36www.saya.sk
- 00:18:39and in the section scholarship and
- 00:18:41grants you can also search for your uh
- 00:18:44so for a scholarship
- 00:18:46and
- 00:18:47as you can see um
- 00:18:50it takes you to website www.grants.co.sk
- 00:18:54and there you can search
- 00:18:56on our search bar according to your home
- 00:18:59country support category and target
- 00:19:02group and as i have already done that
- 00:19:04for you i have inserted a home country
- 00:19:06indonesia
- 00:19:08and you can see right here that a
- 00:19:11national scholarship program of the
- 00:19:12slovak republic is available to you
- 00:19:16so i hope that now i will answer all of
- 00:19:18your questions that you have regarding
- 00:19:20scholarships and let me tell you
- 00:19:22something more about this program
- 00:19:25a national scholarship program of the
- 00:19:27slovak republic is a program that is for
- 00:19:31any student in any country in the world
- 00:19:34world that would like to come to
- 00:19:36slovakia
- 00:19:38it supports the mobility of students and
- 00:19:41if you are a student you can come here
- 00:19:43for one to two semesters
- 00:19:45and of course also of phd students and
- 00:19:48researchers university teachers and
- 00:19:51artists and if you fall into these
- 00:19:53categories you can come to slovakia for
- 00:19:55a study stay of 1 to 10 months
- 00:20:01here you can see the scholarship that
- 00:20:04you get and if you are a university
- 00:20:06student you get a scholarship of 400
- 00:20:09euros per month
- 00:20:11so it's a scholarship on a monthly basis
- 00:20:14if you are a phd student you get 734
- 00:20:18euros per month and if you are a
- 00:20:20university teacher researcher or arctic
- 00:20:23artist
- 00:20:24you get um
- 00:20:26depends on
- 00:20:28the
- 00:20:29qualification that you have if you are a
- 00:20:32university teacher yet without phd
- 00:20:35degree or equivalent you get the same as
- 00:20:38a phd students if you already have your
- 00:20:40phd degree
- 00:20:42and work less than 10 years then you get
- 00:20:46980 euros and if you have a phd degree
- 00:20:50and work for more than 10 months
- 00:20:53as a university teacher then you get
- 00:20:56more than 1 000 euros per month so i
- 00:20:59think those scholarships are really
- 00:21:01really nice
- 00:21:04also um
- 00:21:05you have to take into regard that living
- 00:21:08in slovakia is not
- 00:21:09that expensive as for example in finland
- 00:21:12or other european countries
- 00:21:18and in addition to the scholarship you
- 00:21:21also can be awarded and you can apply
- 00:21:24for a travel allowance
- 00:21:26and uh with this uh information
- 00:21:30i have to tell you that it depends on
- 00:21:32how long you travel and if your distance
- 00:21:35is less than 350 kilometers you do not
- 00:21:39get a travel allowance but
- 00:21:42as i can um
- 00:21:44as i know that know that this
- 00:21:48webinar is for students in indonesia
- 00:21:50your distance is more than 7 000
- 00:21:53kilometers so
- 00:21:54you would get a travel allowance of 1000
- 00:21:57euros so
- 00:21:58that's also a great help
- 00:22:00if you would like to travel to slovakia
- 00:22:04for a scholarship stay
- 00:22:07and regarding the application procedure
- 00:22:09and deadlines scholarship applications
- 00:22:12are submitted online
- 00:22:13um at our webpage www.scholarship.sk
- 00:22:18and deadlines are
- 00:22:20are twice a year and the first one is on
- 00:22:2330th of april
- 00:22:25at 4 pm of central european time which
- 00:22:28is unfortunately already passed but the
- 00:22:31next deadline is on 31st of october at
- 00:22:354pm of central european time
- 00:22:38and this
- 00:22:40deadline is

- 00:22:45and if you would like to apply for this
- 00:22:47you are welcome to
- 00:22:49and you can apply for scholarship stays
- 00:22:51during the summer semester of the
- 00:22:53current academic year so if you would
- 00:22:55like to travel during the summer
- 00:22:57semester of the next academic year then
- 00:23:00the deadline is for you
- 00:23:03and if you would like to for example
- 00:23:06travel to slovakia not during the next
- 00:23:09academic year but the year after that
- 00:23:11then you have to apply on 30 of april
- 00:23:15i hope it's clear
- 00:23:18and
- 00:23:19as you can see here this is the website
- 00:23:22that i mentioned that you can apply
- 00:23:25uh and send your scholarship via to us
- 00:23:28so it's
- 00:23:31www.scholarship.sk and you can find
- 00:23:32there all the information you need in
- 00:23:35the section program terms and conditions
- 00:23:37for international applicants
- 00:23:39and uh
- 00:23:41also
- 00:23:42during september there there will be
- 00:23:44this section submit application and if
- 00:23:47you click on that you will be redirected
- 00:23:50to our online application system
- 00:23:54if you would also uh
- 00:23:56like to get some help regarding slovakia
- 00:23:59and life in slovakia and maybe even if
- 00:24:01you are a researcher that would like to
- 00:24:04come to slovakia and you don't know the
- 00:24:07information you need regarding for
- 00:24:09example taxes and
- 00:24:13employment and so on you can also
- 00:24:16contact our your access
- 00:24:19service centers which are centers
- 00:24:22in all over slovakia we have five
- 00:24:24centers in five cities
- 00:24:27and you will get personalized assistance
- 00:24:30regarding all the practical information
- 00:24:32that you might need as a phd student or
- 00:24:35a researcher who would like to convert
- 00:24:36scholarship state to slovakia
- 00:24:38and for example
- 00:24:40uh
- 00:24:42regarding even
- 00:24:44um
- 00:24:45things like uh if you would like to come
- 00:24:47with your family
- 00:24:49so that is also a great tip for you
- 00:24:57um we also have some questions but let
- 00:24:59me just
- 00:25:01tell you something more and we can pay
- 00:25:03attention to them at the end
- 00:25:07so regarding the national scholarship
- 00:25:09program of the slovak republic you
- 00:25:12should you probably ask
- 00:25:14the question how to correctly prepare
- 00:25:16attachments to application or what do
- 00:25:19you need to provide if you want to apply
- 00:25:22so you need to
- 00:25:24attach to the application
- 00:25:27your curriculum vitae motivation letter
- 00:25:30program of the stay two letters of
- 00:25:33recommendation from your university
- 00:25:35teacher
- 00:25:36teachers
- 00:25:38if you ask what is the program of the
- 00:25:40state that is a brief or even lengthy
- 00:25:43description of the things that you would
- 00:25:45like to do in slovakia for example you
- 00:25:48apply for a scholarship state at the
- 00:25:51communist university and you study
- 00:25:54for example economics then then you
- 00:25:57stayed in your program of the state all
- 00:26:00the subjects that you would like to
- 00:26:02um
- 00:26:04go to
- 00:26:05or enroll to
- 00:26:07or you stayed there all the libraries
- 00:26:10that you would like to visit that you
- 00:26:11maybe would like to work with some
- 00:26:13university teacher and so on
- 00:26:16then uh you need student status
- 00:26:18confirmation and that is a document from
- 00:26:21your university that states that you are
- 00:26:23a full-time student of their university
- 00:26:28then you'll need a scan of applicants
- 00:26:29diploma and diploma supplement and state
- 00:26:32examination certificate because this
- 00:26:34national scholarship program is
- 00:26:37not for bachelor students but from a
- 00:26:39master student students and on
- 00:26:42you need admission or invitational
- 00:26:45letter issued by applicants host
- 00:26:47university in slovakia so it this is a
- 00:26:50document from the university in slovakia
- 00:26:53that says that they are excited or they
- 00:26:56welcome you to study at their
- 00:26:58institution
- 00:27:00and if you are a phd student then you
- 00:27:03also need to provide list of publication
- 00:27:06or
- 00:27:06publications or artistic activities in a
- 00:27:10required form but don't worry if you
- 00:27:12decide to apply
- 00:27:14uh you are always welcome to contact our
- 00:27:17administrators for the program and they
- 00:27:19will be always happy to give you advice
- 00:27:22on anything you need
- 00:27:25and to conclude about the national
- 00:27:28scholarship program and the application
- 00:27:30procedure
- 00:27:31um
- 00:27:33the personalized advice that you will
- 00:27:36get
- 00:27:37uh from our administrators will only be
- 00:27:41supplemented by saying that the
- 00:27:43application is the only way that the
- 00:27:45committee that will decide if you get
- 00:27:47the scholarship or not to know you so it
- 00:27:50is very important to prepare them
- 00:27:52carefully and to explain yourself
- 00:27:55and for it to be of quality not quantity
- 00:27:58they don't need 10 pages of motivation
- 00:28:01letter they need maybe two pages
- 00:28:03but
- 00:28:05two pages that are interesting and
- 00:28:08explain well why you would like to come
- 00:28:10to slovakia
- 00:28:14so for now thank you for your attention
- 00:28:16and now i hope there will be many
- 00:28:18questions that i will be able to answer
- 00:28:21and before we turn to your questions i
- 00:28:24would also like to
- 00:28:26um
- 00:28:28welcome you or invite you to follow us
- 00:28:30on our facebook or instagram where we
- 00:28:33publish um
- 00:28:35frequently or me even on a daily basis
- 00:28:38new information regarding to slovakia
- 00:28:41and studying in slovakia even
- 00:28:44information about slovak universities
- 00:28:46and study programs
- 00:28:48and if you would have some questions
- 00:28:50maybe later that you do not have
- 00:28:52formulated in your head now you can turn
- 00:28:55to me
- 00:28:56on my email magdalena.mergova or to my
- 00:28:59colleague simona
- 00:29:01or even to our national scholarship
- 00:29:03program coordinator andre dot aratsky
- 00:29:06and his email address is on the
- 00:29:10bottom part of the slide so thank you
- 00:29:12very much for your attention right now
- 00:29:15and let's
- 00:29:16get to those questions
- 00:29:20thank you so much from elena
- 00:29:22actually there are some questions from
- 00:29:24the chat chat box so you can check
- 00:29:27the chat box yes yes i'm already looking
- 00:29:30at them
- 00:29:32so we have a question from leah
- 00:29:35and hi lia
- 00:29:37nice to meet you
- 00:29:38and she wants to ask she if she should
- 00:29:41have a letter of
- 00:29:43sorry can you explain letter letter of
- 00:29:46um application before applying to
- 00:29:48scholarship
- 00:29:50letter of acceptance
- 00:29:52letter of acceptance sorry yeah
- 00:29:55yes before applying to scholarship you
- 00:29:58should already have the letter of
- 00:29:59acceptance because when you apply via
- 00:30:03the online application system that is
- 00:30:06one of the uh attachments that you
- 00:30:10attach to the application
- 00:30:12because if you do not have the letter of
- 00:30:15acceptance then um
- 00:30:17maybe the committee wouldn't be sure if
- 00:30:19there is any university that you could
- 00:30:22go to
- 00:30:23but it's not
- 00:30:25to be honest very hard to get the letter
- 00:30:27of acceptance they are always happy to
- 00:30:30have international students at their
- 00:30:32departments
- 00:30:34and if you are struggling with which
- 00:30:36university to choose you can always ask
- 00:30:38us
- 00:30:39and we will uh
- 00:30:40be very happy to give you advice or you
- 00:30:43can even uh search through the
- 00:30:45um document the publication about
- 00:30:48scholars
- 00:30:49about
- 00:30:51study programs in slovakia that i told
- 00:30:53you about and there are
- 00:30:56a lot of them maybe as i already said to
- 00:30:58you more than five or four hundred
- 00:31:06uh so we have another questions a
- 00:31:09question is there any university applied
- 00:31:12of of applied sciences
- 00:31:15in the eastern europe countries um
- 00:31:18i think so of course there are
- 00:31:21um
- 00:31:23universities that offer applied sciences
- 00:31:26programs even
- 00:31:27we have
- 00:31:29i don't know if you are a student or
- 00:31:31phd students but we also have a slovak
- 00:31:34academy of sciences
- 00:31:35where you can
- 00:31:36do also your research with this
- 00:31:39scholarship
- 00:31:41so i would also give you this piece of
- 00:31:43advice and that is to look through our
- 00:31:45publication of study programs in
- 00:31:48slovakia and i think that you will find
- 00:31:51there
- 00:31:52what you are looking for
- 00:31:54or even write me an email and i will
- 00:31:58look
- 00:32:00have a look at it and
- 00:32:03you know
- 00:32:04search for study programs that would be
- 00:32:06ideal for you
- 00:32:10if you have any more questions regarding
- 00:32:13your question that i have not answered
- 00:32:15you can give
- 00:32:17type a new one
- 00:32:21we have a question from zara
- 00:32:24and she says i would like to ask is
- 00:32:26there any slovakia student mobility or
- 00:32:29exchange program for undergraduate
- 00:32:31students thank you very much in advance
- 00:32:34hi zara nice to meet you and
- 00:32:36unfortunately right now there is not but
- 00:32:40we are working on it and in a matter
- 00:32:42maybe of several months
- 00:32:44there would there should be an
- 00:32:46information that
- 00:32:48there is
- 00:32:49already a program for undergraduate
- 00:32:51students
- 00:32:53i don't know if you know but in slovakia
- 00:32:55we have now this great wave of
- 00:32:57reformations and this is one of them
- 00:33:01so maybe next a year or a year after
- 00:33:04that they will there would already be a
- 00:33:06program for undergraduate students
- 00:33:15do we need to submit yales or trifle if
- 00:33:19yes what are the minimum requirements
- 00:33:22that
- 00:33:23depends on the university that you
- 00:33:25applied some universities require a
- 00:33:28language certificate and some just
- 00:33:31require a statement for from your
- 00:33:33teacher
- 00:33:34saying that you do speak english and
- 00:33:37some do not require any language
- 00:33:39certificate at all
- 00:33:40if i'm speaking about the program and if
- 00:33:43it's in the attachments that you have to
- 00:33:44submit no you do not have to submit any
- 00:33:47certificate and the rest is only
- 00:33:51on the university and their decision so
- 00:33:54if you choose the university and you
- 00:33:58you would
- 00:33:59like to ask them for a letter of
- 00:34:01acceptance that is also one matter that
- 00:34:03you should discuss with them
- 00:34:11i'm glad that i see some messages that
- 00:34:14uh already some people have decided to
- 00:34:17communicate with me or my colleague via
- 00:34:19email and i will be happy to hear from
- 00:34:22you
- 00:34:24another question is their language
- 00:34:26preparation before you start the
- 00:34:28master's degree
- 00:34:30well if you start a master's degree in
- 00:34:33english there is no language preparation
- 00:34:36and they automatically assume that you
- 00:34:38speak english but if you for example
- 00:34:40come to slovakia and you would like to
- 00:34:43study in slovak language uh there are
- 00:34:46some car courses some are paid some are
- 00:34:49free
- 00:34:50offered by
- 00:34:51slovak universities
- 00:34:53but mind you
- 00:34:56if you would like to study in slovak
- 00:34:58they automatically assume that you speak
- 00:35:00slovak at the level that you
- 00:35:02understand of them speaking in slovak at
- 00:35:05classes
- 00:35:12another question from stella i would
- 00:35:14like to ask are there any special
- 00:35:16criteria for the letter of
- 00:35:17recommendation does it have to be from a
- 00:35:19professor or can it be a lecturer
- 00:35:22without the professor title thank you
- 00:35:25no it does not have to be a professor
- 00:35:27and it is best if it's someone that
- 00:35:30knows you
- 00:35:31so the letter of recommendation
- 00:35:33shouldn't be maybe from the head of your
- 00:35:35department that had
- 00:35:37didn't have any classes with you during
- 00:35:40the course of your studies but should be
- 00:35:43maybe from um the
- 00:35:45teacher that was uh
- 00:35:48your advisor on your for example
- 00:35:50bachelor thesis
- 00:35:52on or some course that
- 00:35:55the teacher got to know you and it's
- 00:35:59important that the letter of
- 00:36:00recommendation
- 00:36:01uh expresses that
- 00:36:04the teacher sincerely recommends you for
- 00:36:06the stay so that's why it's best if it's
- 00:36:09someone that knows you and
- 00:36:11knows um
- 00:36:12who you are and can
- 00:36:15sincerely
- 00:36:16uh
- 00:36:17say some things about you
- 00:36:20so no it may be even a phd student that
- 00:36:24teaches you some lessons
- 00:36:26and
- 00:36:28that's all
- 00:36:30but if you would like to know more
- 00:36:32information then
- 00:36:34write me an email or to our national
- 00:36:36scholarship program coordinator
- 00:36:39and
- 00:36:40we will try to help you the best we can
- 00:36:52we have another question is it possible
- 00:36:54to bring my family there regarding with
- 00:36:56the scholarship availability or your
- 00:36:59country regulation
- 00:37:01that is the question i don't know an
- 00:37:03answer to
- 00:37:04but
- 00:37:05um
- 00:37:07if you drop me an email i will ask our
- 00:37:10program coordinator
- 00:37:12and
- 00:37:13our people that are experts on
- 00:37:16international mobility
- 00:37:18and we will have an answer ready for you
- 00:37:29we have
- 00:37:30another question from
- 00:37:33i hope i pronounced it correctly chelsea
- 00:37:38i would like to ask if i have interest
- 00:37:40about medicine is it possible if my
- 00:37:42previous education is for example from
- 00:37:44computer science
- 00:37:46and how many students will be accepted
- 00:37:48in the scholarship
- 00:37:50regarding the letter questions and
- 00:37:52question and how how many students will
- 00:37:55be accepted in the scholarship it
- 00:37:57depends from year to year because some
- 00:37:59year we have
- 00:38:00more finances from the government some
- 00:38:03year we don't have that many
- 00:38:05but generally
- 00:38:07there is
- 00:38:09it moves in hundreds of hundreds of
- 00:38:12students each each scholarship deadline
- 00:38:16so
- 00:38:17if you
- 00:38:18prepare your application well
- 00:38:22and
- 00:38:23you know what you're looking for and
- 00:38:25your um
- 00:38:27attachments to applications are all
- 00:38:32of quality and not of quantity then you
- 00:38:35have a gracious great chance of success
- 00:38:39and i don't understand the question
- 00:38:41would you like to come for a full study
- 00:38:43of medicine or for a scholarship stay in
- 00:38:47medicine because if it's a scholarship
- 00:38:49stay
- 00:38:50about medicine then it's not possible
- 00:38:53because if you come for a scholarship
- 00:38:55stay with the national scholarship
- 00:38:56program you should
- 00:38:58study something that um
- 00:39:01clearly is
- 00:39:03in line with the object or object of
- 00:39:05your studies
- 00:39:07but if you would like for to come for a
- 00:39:09full study of medicine yeah it's not
- 00:39:11problem if you
- 00:39:12um if you do the
- 00:39:16entrance exam then they will accept you
- 00:39:19no matter what you studied before
- 00:39:28is there any age limit for master
- 00:39:30program applicants um i
- 00:39:35think there is a limit
- 00:39:37that says that you have to
- 00:39:41have uh you have to
- 00:39:43study of for example two and a half
- 00:39:46semesters at least at the university but
- 00:39:49i don't know of any age limit but again
- 00:39:52that's a question that i will have to
- 00:39:54discuss with the program scholarship
- 00:39:56coordinator
- 00:39:58i think it's something to do with the
- 00:40:00age of the applicants when they started
- 00:40:03to apply for the master's program
- 00:40:07i am not sure yes yes i understand the
- 00:40:10question but i only know that if you
- 00:40:13apply that you have to already have
- 00:40:16passed two semesters and a half so you
- 00:40:19can already apply as a bachelor but you
- 00:40:22have to be for example in the third year
- 00:40:24and how in the in the second half of
- 00:40:27your third year of your bachelor studies
- 00:40:31but i don't know of any age limit uh
- 00:40:34stated
- 00:40:36explicitly thank you
- 00:40:39sure
- 00:40:43and for now that that's all of the
- 00:40:46questions if you
- 00:40:48are interesting to know anything else
- 00:40:51just write a question or even
- 00:40:53you can
- 00:40:54turn on your camera and your mic and i
- 00:40:57will be happy to also see you
- 00:41:09so another questions
- 00:41:11question is it possible to apply this
- 00:41:13the scholarship in the same time
- 00:41:16with applying to university
- 00:41:18you mean for your master's program
- 00:41:25um
- 00:41:26yes it should be possible to apply
- 00:41:29and
- 00:41:31if you are not already accepted at the
- 00:41:33time of your application to your
- 00:41:35master's program in university
- 00:41:38then you would have to explain it in
- 00:41:41your application attachments and if you
- 00:41:44would be accepted you would be accepted
- 00:41:46conditionally and the condition would be
- 00:41:48that you get accepted to your master's
- 00:41:50program
- 00:42:02another question from imelda i wonder if
- 00:42:04there's any joint research in slovakia
- 00:42:07um what do you mean
- 00:42:12i think there are many programs or maybe
- 00:42:14research cooperations within
- 00:42:16universities in slovak academy of
- 00:42:18sciences or with foreign university or
- 00:42:21research centers so
- 00:42:24yes that is the case there are many um
- 00:42:28joint research
- 00:42:30activities in slovakia but
- 00:42:32if you would like to know something else
- 00:42:34then um
- 00:42:35explain yourself
- 00:42:37in a in a comment
- 00:42:55while we wait for another questions
- 00:42:57i would all
- 00:42:59again like to invite you to follow us on
- 00:43:01our facebook and instagram
- 00:43:03and even there if you have any more
- 00:43:05questions you can pop us in a personal
- 00:43:08um direct message so
- 00:43:11we will always be there to help you
- 00:43:17another question chica slovakia was
- 00:43:23indonesian student study destination in
- 00:43:25the 1960s what subjects did they study
- 00:43:30well
- 00:43:31for that i would probably have to look
- 00:43:33through the archives but maybe you know
- 00:43:37if you ask
- 00:43:47uh we have another question from hilaria
- 00:43:50i would like to ask if this scholarship
- 00:43:52and universities in slovakia in general
- 00:43:56also open for a non-stem program for
- 00:43:58example social culture and communication
- 00:44:01master program or is this only
- 00:44:03prioritized for
- 00:44:05stem research program ah thank you
- 00:44:08no it's not prioritized
- 00:44:11so if you would like to come to slovakia
- 00:44:13to study anything from you know not
- 00:44:16natural sciences
- 00:44:18you are very welcome to apply
- 00:44:22and we have many applicants and
- 00:44:24scholarship holders each years each year
- 00:44:27that do not study sciences
- 00:44:31we have for example some people from
- 00:44:35some countries or some departments
- 00:44:38departments in the world that study uh
- 00:44:40for example slovak language or history
- 00:44:43or anything so
- 00:44:46um it doesn't
- 00:44:48the scholarship um
- 00:44:50scholarship holders
- 00:44:52do not get awarded awarded based on the
- 00:44:56topic they study but on the quality of
- 00:44:58it of their application
- 00:45:04another question from leah is there a
- 00:45:06catalogue for master subjects in
- 00:45:08slovakia i need to find subjects which
- 00:45:10suit my profile yes i already mentioned
- 00:45:14the publication study programs offered
- 00:45:16in english for foreign students and in
- 00:45:19that publication you can find all the
- 00:45:22bachelor and master and phd and edit any
- 00:45:25study programs
- 00:45:27um that
- 00:45:29are taught in english in slovakia so you
- 00:45:32can search through that or even if you
- 00:45:35need advice you can ask us and we will
- 00:45:38try to help you
- 00:45:58you're welcome
- 00:46:06and if you come to slovakia
- 00:46:09we also do many activities
- 00:46:12uh for example like um
- 00:46:14city tours
- 00:46:16not
- 00:46:17you will not be just live left hanging
- 00:46:19uh
- 00:46:20just studying
- 00:46:22and we as our agency and also
- 00:46:26erasmus student network that is also a
- 00:46:29volunteer agency in slovakia that does
- 00:46:32activities for
- 00:46:33um exchange students and scholarship
- 00:46:36students in slovakia
- 00:46:38so you will always have a community in
- 00:46:41your university that will be there for
- 00:46:44you and happy to help you and be friends
- 00:46:47with you
- 00:47:22i know that the moderator of our
- 00:47:24discussion
- 00:47:26has asked a question about
- 00:47:28czechoslovakia and students in indonesia
- 00:47:30do you know something more about it did
- 00:47:32you study in slovakia
- 00:47:35in the 60s some of our
- 00:47:38former indonesian ministers went to
- 00:47:41czechoslovakia but i i didn't know where
- 00:47:44what university did they go they they
- 00:47:47went at the time
- 00:47:48perhaps you can tell us what subjects
- 00:47:51that that were very strong at that time
- 00:47:54because indonesia
- 00:47:56i was very
- 00:47:58close to
- 00:47:59the eastern bloc now in in the 60s so i
- 00:48:03would like to know what subjects
- 00:48:05perhaps
- 00:48:06which were indonesian
- 00:48:09students favorite at that time
- 00:48:12well i don't know specifically but i do
- 00:48:14know that a lot of students from
- 00:48:17indonesia and also for example vietnam
- 00:48:20uh came to study in slovakia
- 00:48:22and
- 00:48:23usually uh like generally
- 00:48:27it do
- 00:48:28they they were subjects
- 00:48:30like from the
- 00:48:32uh technical topics or economic uh and
- 00:48:35so on
- 00:48:37okay
- 00:48:39thank you there's a question from
- 00:48:41gahanna
- 00:48:42yes yes
- 00:48:44so another question from gahanna how you
- 00:48:47how do you think about studying magister
- 00:48:51with different major with bachelor
- 00:48:53degree
- 00:48:54do you ever know about it so
- 00:48:58if you come to slovakia for a full study
- 00:49:03right now there is no scholarship
- 00:49:05available but in the future there will
- 00:49:07be as i said with also the undergraduate
- 00:49:10scholarships
- 00:49:13and if you want to study a different
- 00:49:15major than your bachelor of course it's
- 00:49:18possible
- 00:49:20as any in any other country
- 00:49:23in the world
- 00:49:25and
- 00:49:26of course there are even many slovak
- 00:49:28students that choose something different
- 00:49:30from their bachelor degree you just have
- 00:49:33to
- 00:49:33pass the
- 00:49:35entrance exam
- 00:49:41and if you would like to come for a
- 00:49:43scholarship stay unfortunately uh you
- 00:49:45have to be accepted to your local
- 00:49:48university
- 00:49:49in indonesia for
- 00:49:51us
- 00:49:53for example
- 00:49:55the
- 00:49:57magister studies or the phd studies and
- 00:50:00then
- 00:50:01your scholarship stay is dedicated to
- 00:50:03the same same topic that you study in
- 00:50:06your home country
- 00:50:09thank you for informing this because not
- 00:50:11many indonesians aware that applying
- 00:50:14master's degree different from their
- 00:50:16previous bachelor degree background
- 00:50:19is possible
- 00:50:21especially in europe because i had a
- 00:50:23friend who studied agroforestry agronomy
- 00:50:26and when when she he was in
- 00:50:29a bachelor degree and he took master's
- 00:50:32degree in political communication
- 00:50:35and
- 00:50:36me myself also obtained scholarship
- 00:50:40for system information system at that
- 00:50:43time
- 00:50:43although my master my bachelor degree
- 00:50:47is in forestry but i decided to go to
- 00:50:50some other subject
- 00:50:52but thank you for informing this
- 00:50:55yes sure i even have friends for example
- 00:50:57i studied
- 00:50:59um translation and interpreting in
- 00:51:01english and spanish
- 00:51:03and
- 00:51:05i have
- 00:51:07completed also my master master's degree
- 00:51:10in this subject but i have a friend that
- 00:51:13for example they studied the same with
- 00:51:14me but for the masters they went to
- 00:51:17economics or
- 00:51:19for example some even um
- 00:51:22didn't continue in their studies and
- 00:51:24went to medicine so
- 00:51:27it's uh it's not that uncommon
- 00:51:30yeah because in indonesia
- 00:51:32we call it linearity because something
- 00:51:35to do with with a position uh research
- 00:51:38position in the university or position
- 00:51:40for lecture in the university so you've
- 00:51:43got to have
- 00:51:45the same line of
- 00:51:47subjects for your bachelor and master's
- 00:51:50degree so that's that's something to do
- 00:51:52with
- 00:51:53indonesia's job opportunity especially
- 00:51:56in academics
- 00:51:58yes yes i understand i think here
- 00:52:01there's an understanding that maybe when
- 00:52:03you are 18 00 or 18 18 years old
- 00:52:07not always you
- 00:52:08um
- 00:52:10know what is the thing that you would
- 00:52:12like to do for the rest of your life so
- 00:52:15if you decide later that the thing that
- 00:52:17you chose first is not the correct one
- 00:52:19that's
- 00:52:20okay that's fine yeah it's new wisdom
- 00:52:27is there a format for making study plans
- 00:52:29in slovakia um do you mean it regarding
- 00:52:33the
- 00:52:34program of your state that i mentioned
- 00:52:36that you have to submit with your
- 00:52:39application documents
- 00:52:45uh there uh is not um for yes there is a
- 00:52:49format there is the document for
- 00:52:51download at our website
- 00:52:53www.scholarships.sk
- 00:52:56and um
- 00:52:58all the documents that you have to
- 00:53:00submit with your application are there
- 00:53:02uh in you know a format or
- 00:53:05example uh format
- 00:53:08so if you
- 00:53:09do not know how to make them you can
- 00:53:12always go to our website and download
- 00:53:14them and get an inspiration or a sense
- 00:53:17of how they should look or even you can
- 00:53:20contact us
- 00:53:22before you submit the application and we
- 00:53:25can give you advice on yes that is
- 00:53:27correct that is not good you should work
- 00:53:30more on that so on
- 00:53:42no worries
- 00:53:51[Music]
- 00:53:54oh yeah there's a question from hillary
- 00:53:56arum here any suggestion for indonesian
- 00:53:59who want to learn slovak language
- 00:54:01uh example recommended language course
- 00:54:03or what kind language test we should
- 00:54:05take thanks
- 00:54:07a language test depends on the
- 00:54:09university some universities even do
- 00:54:12their own
- 00:54:13testing some
- 00:54:14require
- 00:54:16like some formal
- 00:54:19tests
- 00:54:20but
- 00:54:22where should you
- 00:54:23learn slovak
- 00:54:24um for example in on our website you can
- 00:54:27find a section that
- 00:54:30that's named slovak language learning
- 00:54:33and there you can find all the resources
- 00:54:36and links to all the university courses
- 00:54:39uh that you can apply to so for example
- 00:54:42some courses are free of charge some are
- 00:54:45paid and
- 00:54:47well that's my advice you should go
- 00:54:49there to the web page and
- 00:54:54and you will have all the information
- 00:54:55there
- 00:55:00but most of the slovak bigger slavic
- 00:55:03universities they offer language courses
- 00:55:06in slovak language
- 00:55:08in
- 00:55:08even moreover now because way we have a
- 00:55:11major influx of ukrainians to our
- 00:55:14country due to the situation there so
- 00:55:17there are now even more and more cars is
- 00:55:20popping so
- 00:55:27perhaps this is the last question
- 00:55:31it is so interesting to know about how
- 00:55:34we can take different majors from our ma
- 00:55:36from our bachelor so let's say if i'm a
- 00:55:39political science student for my
- 00:55:40bachelor degree is it possible to take
- 00:55:43psychology as the focus of my master's
- 00:55:45degree
- 00:55:46well as i said it
- 00:55:50it is possible but you have to pass the
- 00:55:54insurance exam that you have to prove to
- 00:55:57the committee that you
- 00:55:58you can
- 00:56:00study the master's degree in psychology
- 00:56:04um
- 00:56:05it's me maybe more delicate in the areas
- 00:56:08like medicine and so on because if you
- 00:56:10want to study medicine it's not divided
- 00:56:13into
- 00:56:14major and bachelor it's a all medicine
- 00:56:17course of six years so you can not um
- 00:56:21start studying medicine in media srs and
- 00:56:24psychology i think they would have
