- 00:00:08timing yeah we're going to make a uh
- 00:00:10hotline mamy level edit tutorial for you
- 00:00:12because there's none in video form it's
- 00:00:13a whole bunch of written ones but who
- 00:00:15wants to read [ __ ] that yeah Rob say
- 00:00:18that there's multiple guyses on the
- 00:00:21Steam Workshop with um level editor but
- 00:00:24also with spring and we just felt that
- 00:00:26again it would just be easier to make
- 00:00:28obviously a video series for this
- 00:00:31because again like he said he wants to
- 00:00:32read but also it's just so much material
- 00:00:35that we want to cover and this is like
- 00:00:37the most efficient way to do so so yeah
- 00:00:39let's get started yeah in this level or
- 00:00:42episode we are just covering the basics
- 00:00:45I remember when I first opened the
- 00:00:46editor it really intimidated me so
- 00:00:49you're going to watch me make a basic
- 00:00:51level and it'll make all sense to you
- 00:00:53and we can stop getting those shitty
- 00:00:54levels with one type of carpet and a
- 00:00:57bunch of random enemies walking around
- 00:00:58an empty room how about that Al yeah and
- 00:01:00also the the menu
- 00:01:02music that's like not selected but um
- 00:01:06the first thing you want to do is tab
- 00:01:09all you [ __ ] that keep asking me how
- 00:01:11to access Camp campaigns you go to this
- 00:01:13you enter the uh editor
- 00:01:17tab boom all right now these are all the
- 00:01:20ones that you've downloaded you hit
- 00:01:21Escape you hit a now you've got
- 00:01:25campaigns do you want to explain um
- 00:01:28local uploads and downloads in the top
- 00:01:29op yeah so local is the ones that are on
- 00:01:32your hard drive it's the ones that you
- 00:01:34create or the ones you put in the folder
- 00:01:37uploads are the ones that you create and
- 00:01:39you've uploaded obviously and downloads
- 00:01:41is the important one for when you hit
- 00:01:43subscribe in the workshop this is what's
- 00:01:45going to come up all those great
- 00:01:49campaigns so to make a level you want to
- 00:01:53first hit C to
- 00:01:54create yes and you'll get uh a menu
- 00:01:57looking like this and it gives you a
- 00:02:00whole bunch of options first you want to
- 00:02:01title it something what do you want to
- 00:02:03call at this level
- 00:02:04Matt um let's just do editor
- 00:02:08one editor
- 00:02:10one oh no nothing cancer and let's play
- 00:02:14as Hammer because everyone loves the L
- 00:02:16letter your cinnamon bun and then you
- 00:02:19also here you can choose Your
- 00:02:22Song and all of them it's pretty much
- 00:02:24every song from the main game we are
- 00:02:27going to choose the fan favorite sexual
- 00:02:31hit okay oh uh before I leave uh here's
- 00:02:34the available enemies not every
- 00:02:36character can fight every enemy so if
- 00:02:38you want to fight the uh police you
- 00:02:40can't play Evan and if you want to play
- 00:02:42the soldier you can only fight other
- 00:02:44soldiers there's a way around this that
- 00:02:46we'll cover in a later video because
- 00:02:48right now it's the basics mhm as we uh
- 00:02:51kind of go throughout the video series
- 00:02:52we'll soon get to we talk about spriting
- 00:02:55and the wiki where restricted character
- 00:02:56enemies are not going to be a common
- 00:02:58issue but for now we're just going to
- 00:02:59focus on what's available to us as a
- 00:03:01default all right and Hammer is the best
- 00:03:04choice cuz as you see they're all
- 00:03:06highlighted except for soldiers but you
- 00:03:08can get soldiers through a glitch that
- 00:03:09we'll show you probably another episode
- 00:03:12and once you do that you're going to
- 00:03:15have
- 00:03:16the five tabs right here level build
- 00:03:19items MK and enemy yeah I did not say
- 00:03:23those in order
- 00:03:25but uh to do anything you're going to
- 00:03:27have to uh place your player and the
- 00:03:30vehicle down you just click on it and
- 00:03:32you can set it down and if you want to
- 00:03:34move it you're GNA have to click it
- 00:03:35again and hold down the right Mouse
- 00:03:38button erase it and place it and uh
- 00:03:42don't worry the door will show up once
- 00:03:44you actually play and if you're playing
- 00:03:46a character say like the fans where
- 00:03:48there's more than one character there'll
- 00:03:50be little arrows right here to swap
- 00:03:52through it's not that difficult so the
- 00:03:55first thing and once you get good at the
- 00:03:58editor um you can do this in any order
- 00:04:00you want but we're just going to go in
- 00:04:02order through
- 00:04:04here and so build build is the walls and
- 00:04:08the floors mostly as well as doors and
- 00:04:12windows so let's choose just our little
- 00:04:15uh basic White Walls and click to drag
- 00:04:19them and to so right now we have them
- 00:04:22vertically you can get them horizontally
- 00:04:24by clicking this or the much faster way
- 00:04:26hold down shift and hit right right
- 00:04:29Mouse button
- 00:04:31yeah definitely yeah hot keys are
- 00:04:33definitely going to save you a lot of
- 00:04:34time when you're doing this instead of
- 00:04:36again like you're doing like manually
- 00:04:37going through but um like you said with
- 00:04:40the hold shift click right it's at the
- 00:04:42bottom very bottom of the command keys
- 00:04:44of this uh build tab um and I think as
- 00:04:48we go further there's ones when you're
- 00:04:50accessing your level like playing which
- 00:04:52you do contrl p which surprisingly I did
- 00:04:55not know about till like eight months in
- 00:04:58but um again it just saves you a botlo
- 00:05:00of time when you're doing this sounds
- 00:05:02like they've called the cops I you at
- 00:05:04can you hear that I can all right so
- 00:05:07also if uh just like the car or the
- 00:05:10player you can erase walls that you
- 00:05:12don't like um now if you can see that
- 00:05:15little black dot right there uh for some
- 00:05:18reason when you drag them upwards it
- 00:05:20creates black dots when you drag them
- 00:05:22downwards those ugly black dots are out
- 00:05:24there same with horizontally you drag
- 00:05:25them this direction no black dots drag
- 00:05:28them that direction black dots
- 00:05:30nobody likes black dots yeah so again if
- 00:05:32you do it from bottom up you're going to
- 00:05:34get um what they call door what AM IES
- 00:05:38wall wall notches and if you do them
- 00:05:40when you're doing horizontally you do
- 00:05:41from right to left again like you said
- 00:05:45you'll get the wall notches and it just
- 00:05:48like here's our little room and now so
- 00:05:51we don't just have the void floating in
- 00:05:53it we're going to want to select a
- 00:05:55floor uh so to choose the different
- 00:05:58types of floors you want to check these
- 00:06:00boxes and so you have things like wood
- 00:06:03planks rugs tiles bathroom
- 00:06:08stairs uh asphalt train which is like
- 00:06:12subway stations and rails outdoor litter
- 00:06:15and edges litter and edges are different
- 00:06:18they do not take up a space um that the
- 00:06:21rest of them do they layer on top and to
- 00:06:24make a nice level you're going to want
- 00:06:25to take advantage of these and I'll show
- 00:06:28you so uh let's choose chose a nice
- 00:06:30purple click it and you drag
- 00:06:33it and there you have the floor if you
- 00:06:35want to get rid of something you can
- 00:06:36erase it also if you have a ton and
- 00:06:40that's tedious to uh hold right Mouse
- 00:06:42button and erase all of it if you want
- 00:06:44to get all rid of it you just click one
- 00:06:46of these void spaces here it's all
- 00:06:50gone um when you mod this might come
- 00:06:54bite you in the butt to do it that way
- 00:06:56but currently we're not going to have an
- 00:06:58issue with that yeah with all the tiles
- 00:07:00that listed too you're obviously not
- 00:07:02going to use everything like there's
- 00:07:03obviously stuff in like the floor um
- 00:07:06subtab that I've never even touched
- 00:07:09because like you just have colors that
- 00:07:10are just like a bright ass yellow and
- 00:07:12you're just not about to
- 00:07:14like there's some terrible ones or just
- 00:07:16like almost black but not quite like I
- 00:07:19don't understand the point of these
- 00:07:21anyways so we have our floors now uh to
- 00:07:24go back to the other walls so here we
- 00:07:26have Windows the same concept if you've
- 00:07:28ever played hotline Mii you know window
- 00:07:29is and you hate them uh doors as well
- 00:07:32now the doors have a bunch of different
- 00:07:34functions uh if you don't click any of
- 00:07:36these boxes here when you have doors
- 00:07:38selected which are these Brown uh
- 00:07:40rectangles right here uh then it'll just
- 00:07:43a regular door acts just like it locked
- 00:07:46you can't go through it it will never
- 00:07:47open or close
- 00:07:49duh then if you choose cut scene it will
- 00:07:53remain locked until you kill everybody
- 00:07:55in the level so let's put that one right
- 00:07:58here let's put the locked one on the
- 00:08:01other side and then mirror is the
- 00:08:04special one mirror is will flip the way
- 00:08:10the door opens so you can have fun
- 00:08:12double doors and I really hope I placed
- 00:08:14this correctly I can never
- 00:08:16remember now we'll go over this and
- 00:08:19level design better but here's edges and
- 00:08:21they're B um they'll look like this just
- 00:08:24you know an edge and it goes over the
- 00:08:26other layer it looks really nice when
- 00:08:28you put them under
- 00:08:30doors so a little bit of the floor isn't
- 00:08:33coming out and you can wheel through the
- 00:08:35mouse to choose similar ones much faster
- 00:08:39yeah I know at least with the if we're
- 00:08:41looking at the bottom like the first top
- 00:08:43half is going to be ones that are
- 00:08:44associated with rugs and they have a
- 00:08:48generally good variation but some of
- 00:08:50them like there's like at least four of
- 00:08:52them that are just black it looks like
- 00:08:54which I don't think are that helpful but
- 00:08:57the most common one I use with the
- 00:09:00edges themselves is like the top right
- 00:09:02and it's like a brownish one and I find
- 00:09:05that with most levels I've made that
- 00:09:06it's helpful but again when you're using
- 00:09:08them there's both uh with the horizontal
- 00:09:12and vertical um Edge placements you kind
- 00:09:15of get a a feel for how it's going to
- 00:09:17like set in the door itself in your
- 00:09:19doorways yeah so before you ask me this
- 00:09:22question no you cannot zoom in the
- 00:09:24editor it sucks it's annoying yeah uh
- 00:09:28you can't like eventually get used to it
- 00:09:30and then once you actually hit play
- 00:09:32obviously you'll be a lot closer to the
- 00:09:34map so you'll be able to see it better
- 00:09:37yeah and most of it is really just like
- 00:09:38editing and editing and how like Rob
- 00:09:41just said when you're going to be
- 00:09:42actually in game playing it that's kind
- 00:09:44of your time where you're going to be
- 00:09:45really inspecting your levels and
- 00:09:47especially when we talk about objects
- 00:09:49where some of them kind of like set in
- 00:09:52walls differently if they're against
- 00:09:53something and of course it's just a lot
- 00:09:56easier when you do in game just to check
- 00:09:58on things and how they look
- 00:09:59mhm did you want to touch um with the
- 00:10:02exterior doors I think it was just a
- 00:10:04brief discussion of um typically in the
- 00:10:07first game how you like um like a map we
- 00:10:12have right now those the wall that is
- 00:10:14parallel to hammer is going to have one
- 00:10:17strip of like red wall and that just is
- 00:10:19claiming that that is basically the
- 00:10:22exterior and the rest is this thing it's
- 00:10:25the little green and uh red arrow and
- 00:10:28you click on it where you want to put a
- 00:10:30door and they will not be able to leave
- 00:10:33I don't really like this in my levels
- 00:10:34but uh the act the campaigns of hotline
- 00:10:36Mami like once you go through the door
- 00:10:38you can't go back out for uh balance
- 00:10:40reasons so you can add that too uh you
- 00:10:43can get creative with them too but the
- 00:10:45basic use is for putting it at the
- 00:10:46starting door like this and uh so like I
- 00:10:51think I have the rer I don't use these
- 00:10:53so I hope this is correct I think I I
- 00:10:55like to allow my player to like if you
- 00:10:56kind of get rushed in the beginning you
- 00:10:58can kind of like back out and sort of
- 00:11:00like bait enemies but yeah I just think
- 00:11:02it's unrealistic like why the heck can't
- 00:11:04I go out this Open Door MH but I some
- 00:11:08people like them and it is H and so
- 00:11:13other walls we have nasty green sewer
- 00:11:15walls we have red brick walls they're
- 00:11:17usually the ones that you use for the
- 00:11:19exterior whereas the white ones go on
- 00:11:21the interior so let's fix this right now
- 00:11:24and yeah you can just like click and
- 00:11:25drag
- 00:11:27over what you had oops
- 00:11:32um we have these wooden plank walls we
- 00:11:36have regular wood walls we have Subway
- 00:11:40walls and the most fun stair railings
- 00:11:44which there's four different types
- 00:11:46depending on which side the poles or
- 00:11:48whatever you want to call them
- 00:11:50are and I typically make them pointing
- 00:11:54in towards the stairs it's up to
- 00:11:57you yeah I know um some people put them
- 00:12:00out I personally I put them out but
- 00:12:01honestly it does not matter and if
- 00:12:03people berate you over it it's like it's
- 00:12:05so insignificant so I it really is up to
- 00:12:08you so yep another uh fun little exper
- 00:12:12uh trick you have is these three boxes
- 00:12:15up here I should have covered this way
- 00:12:18earlier um you click this first one and
- 00:12:22whatever wall you have highlighted let's
- 00:12:23go back to the whites um and whatever
- 00:12:25carpet you have if you click and drag it
- 00:12:28just makes it instantly I highly
- 00:12:29recommend you never use this function
- 00:12:32ever it's useless and you make ugly
- 00:12:34levels with it but it's there uh the
- 00:12:36much more useful sampling tool if you
- 00:12:38ever used Ms paint you know what it is
- 00:12:40you uh click it you click what you want
- 00:12:42to sample and then you have that and
- 00:12:44then the fill option also like Ms paint
- 00:12:47you fill a room with whatever color uh
- 00:12:50it's got a fun glitch sometimes that
- 00:12:52it'll fill up like a space up here it's
- 00:12:55really not a big deal you understand the
- 00:12:57concept of it yeah be very careful with
- 00:12:59The Fill tool though cuz I've had times
- 00:13:01where I'm making something and I acci
- 00:13:03like have it selected I don't realize it
- 00:13:06and again I just get a bright ass purple
- 00:13:09on an entire floor so that's
- 00:13:11fun uh you can turn the grid off and on
- 00:13:14the grid helps with measurements uh some
- 00:13:17people like it some people don't Matt I
- 00:13:20keep it
- 00:13:21on and it's uh because I'm just used to
- 00:13:25it at this point but it's a good it's a
- 00:13:27good yeah it's it's up to you man uh so
- 00:13:32now we've covered all the the build
- 00:13:34sections let's go to items and we have
- 00:13:38all of these items just how many items
- 00:13:41do you think there are just
- 00:13:43hundreds uh probably like 100,000 uh
- 00:13:4510,000 100,000 there is a lot of option
- 00:13:48options and they're
- 00:13:50like they only have one descriptor and
- 00:13:53they're exactly like this there's no
- 00:13:54spaces in them um basically dinon just
- 00:13:57used whatever code they had and that's
- 00:14:01what you have to deal with So eventually
- 00:14:04you'll know what's you'll know pretty
- 00:14:05much everything uh you'll know the names
- 00:14:07just if you're like oh I'd like to have
- 00:14:09I have a kitchen that I need filling in
- 00:14:11let's type in kitchen and you'll get
- 00:14:14some kitchen stuff but not everything uh
- 00:14:16yeah you'll get some you'll get some
- 00:14:17weird ones I think the most interesting
- 00:14:19one is uh like hey what about those
- 00:14:21beach umbrellas I've seen they're under
- 00:14:24parasol
- 00:14:26parisel and it just kind of odd stuff
- 00:14:28like like that and again it's just you
- 00:14:30just have to deal with it but once you
- 00:14:32find it you'll not really forget about
- 00:14:34it yeah I I I mean this is just one of
- 00:14:38those experience things uh to to know
- 00:14:41like just what's in the editor just you
- 00:14:43know uh if you don't know what to put in
- 00:14:46your level at that time I would say just
- 00:14:48like scroll through everything and just
- 00:14:51I mean I think it's the best way to find
- 00:14:53something so yeah uh what do we want in
- 00:14:55our first room let's put a nice uh
- 00:14:58couch if I could spell it right couch
- 00:15:00and let's put it here and then uh have
- 00:15:04about a table so type in
- 00:15:06table and let's get a small table
- 00:15:09that'll work yeah and there really is so
- 00:15:12much in the furniture list like at least
- 00:15:14now at least pretty recently I've been
- 00:15:17using the editor for about I'd say like
- 00:15:1910 months to a year and I like realize
- 00:15:23that luggage is like within it I think
- 00:15:26they're in stronghold that um main beard
- 00:15:29level so again just stuff like that like
- 00:15:31I didn't even realize was in there oh
- 00:15:33yeah uh so if in a lot of items you'll
- 00:15:37see there's a bunch of different
- 00:15:38versions thank you for saying luggage
- 00:15:40because that's a good example so if I
- 00:15:43turn the mouse wheel up or down it'll
- 00:15:45scroll through all the options or you
- 00:15:47can just click but I don't know why you
- 00:15:49would ever do that when you just have
- 00:15:50the scroll wheel yeah scroll wheel is
- 00:15:52your go to yeah and
- 00:15:54so like like you see this has only one
- 00:15:57item that means this is the only version
- 00:15:59of 50 blessings table but with the new
- 00:16:02uh with the like the ATM you have busted
- 00:16:04open sort of busted open and nice and
- 00:16:09closed and to your uh here's here's the
- 00:16:12acid baths there's a whole bunch now
- 00:16:14certain uh items will have animations
- 00:16:17and you can scroll through all of them
- 00:16:20but when you place it like it'll uh go
- 00:16:23through its Behavior so like this Acid
- 00:16:24Bath Bubbles and I would suggest never
- 00:16:27using the Acid Bath because yeah and
- 00:16:29once we get to Spring and stuff like you
- 00:16:31said with object behaviors it's
- 00:16:33something that does affect uh modding
- 00:16:36but of course that's for another yep
- 00:16:37also so you're like hey these these are
- 00:16:39all cool but what if I want to place a
- 00:16:40civilian or something well then you over
- 00:16:43here you check people and now you have
- 00:16:45all the Sprites of pretty much everybody
- 00:16:48now there's some cool glitches that when
- 00:16:50you uh so say I
- 00:16:52want
- 00:16:54uh say I want like a character with an
- 00:16:57animation for instance like attack knife
- 00:17:01it's pretty much up in the air which
- 00:17:03animation is actually going to be there
- 00:17:05here um but with people if you if you
- 00:17:08don't want them to stand fully still you
- 00:17:10can change the speed of the
- 00:17:13animation so if you want him just to
- 00:17:15stand here now he doesn't count as an
- 00:17:17enemy he's just a Sprite the enemy tab
- 00:17:19is right here but
- 00:17:22uh most people have animations with
- 00:17:26speeds there's not a whole lot of point
- 00:17:28to most of these yeah I mean it's really
- 00:17:30just Spam like when you see the um
- 00:17:32shipost campaigns that people just put
- 00:17:34the speed all the way up like see here's
- 00:17:36all the versions of here's all the
- 00:17:37versions of Jake dead like it doesn't
- 00:17:39need an animation speed but you can
- 00:17:40scroll through the different ones and
- 00:17:42it'll choose one at random for you to
- 00:17:44have like it I doubt it's going to be
- 00:17:46this one like I I'll give you an example
- 00:17:48I'll give you three versions of dead
- 00:17:50Jake and it'll all be the same once I
- 00:17:52hit play um but that's how you do items
- 00:17:56and people pretty simple oh and
- 00:17:59I if you if you want to have it an angle
- 00:18:02hold shift and scroll the mouse wheel to
- 00:18:06uh spin it or hold shift and hit right
- 00:18:08Mouse button to do 90° turns so you
- 00:18:11don't have everything at one angle so
- 00:18:13rotating yeah rotating objects that need
- 00:18:15to be rotated is a must like and more so
- 00:18:18like a couch is fine if it's like
- 00:18:20parallel against whatever wall it's at
- 00:18:22but when we get to stuff um with like
- 00:18:24boxes what Rob was just saying with the
- 00:18:26squirrel wheel again there's so many
- 00:18:28variations of boxes and again it makes
- 00:18:31it sound like it's a bigger deal than it
- 00:18:32is but with that it's not that after a
- 00:18:35while if you're putting down the same
- 00:18:37box in your level people are going to be
- 00:18:39like all right there's something going
- 00:18:42on here all right next I think we
- 00:18:44covered all of items pretty much
- 00:18:46anything important uh next we'll have
- 00:18:49enemy and you can use these arrows to
- 00:18:52click through all the available enemies
- 00:18:54that your character has Hammer has
- 00:18:56everything but soldiers so you see all
- 00:18:58of them but side soldiers uh there's a
- 00:19:00glitch to get them to have soldiers but
- 00:19:02we're not going to cover that right now
- 00:19:04so let's do
- 00:19:05Mafia and you'll have all the different
- 00:19:08ones you'll have their different
- 00:19:10behaviors so there's two types of
- 00:19:11behavior for melee and three types of
- 00:19:13behaviors for
- 00:19:16guns static which means he doesn't move
- 00:19:19at all Patrol which means and it it
- 00:19:22describes what it does right here uh
- 00:19:24turns 90 degrees left when the path is
- 00:19:26blocked so he will turn here uh go here
- 00:19:29go here go here I'm going to move that
- 00:19:32item so yeah all the patrols and
- 00:19:35including the fat enemies do the same
- 00:19:38behavior like he just said with the p
- 00:19:40turn 90 Dees left when path is blocked
- 00:19:42as you can
- 00:19:43read yeah and I'm going to rearrange the
- 00:19:46furniture so he actually can like walk
- 00:19:48this direction and you can get created
- 00:19:50with the items to give him a specific uh
- 00:19:53Patrol uh
- 00:19:55fats uh you should know what these are
- 00:19:57you should know what the character typ
- 00:19:58are Idol is a bit
- 00:20:00strange uh I'm not sure how much they
- 00:20:02come up in the campaign but there's
- 00:20:05three different Idol animations for like
- 00:20:07say the mafia and he will either spawn
- 00:20:10with these two will spawn with gun once
- 00:20:13they see you and they they they behave
- 00:20:14just like static enemies essentially
- 00:20:16they'll pull out a gun it's random
- 00:20:17though it's not like how static enemies
- 00:20:19are where you can you have to choose
- 00:20:21what kind of gun they have and then
- 00:20:23that's the gun they'll have it's not
- 00:20:24like holl mam one I was going to say
- 00:20:26with the the phone idle guy I'm was
- 00:20:28positive that when he sees a player he
- 00:20:31takes out a silence pistol with the
- 00:20:33smoking animation it's kind of random
- 00:20:35what he kind of shoots you with and you
- 00:20:39have for these you have pipe knife bat
- 00:20:42this is pretty simple stuff
- 00:20:44folks uh miscellaneous why they called
- 00:20:47it miscellaneous I have no idea it's
- 00:20:49weapons it should have been called
- 00:20:51weapons uh yeah Bas but you know you
- 00:20:53spawn in weapons the blackedout ones you
- 00:20:56can't use because that character doesn't
- 00:20:57have the spes for for it so I'm going to
- 00:20:59give Hammer a pistol and this assault
- 00:21:02rifle and they'll just float there as if
- 00:21:04they're regular weapons uh enemies who
- 00:21:06can't use these weapons like the mafia
- 00:21:08will never pick that thing
- 00:21:09up and then we're back to level which
- 00:21:12we've already put down hammer in the
- 00:21:14vehicle because otherwise we can't save
- 00:21:16which I'm going to do that right now
- 00:21:17which is file save or contrl
- 00:21:21S just like every other windows program
- 00:21:24uh
- 00:21:26these it's a bit uh
- 00:21:30it's a bit glitchy the uh the hours the
- 00:21:33minutes the days you'll never see that
- 00:21:35the only thing that comes up will be
- 00:21:37what state is it it in so we're going to
- 00:21:39say Texas and it will say Texas only in
- 00:21:43campaign when I hit player now you'll
- 00:21:45not see the word Texas yeah and we'll go
- 00:21:47over that the layouts of like what um
- 00:21:50distinguishes a single level from a
- 00:21:52campaign
- 00:21:54but put it simply dinon has abandoned
- 00:21:57the editor all the mistakes like the
- 00:21:59these minor little things they're never
- 00:22:00going to fix you just have to work
- 00:22:02around it by putting the entire address
- 00:22:05in the State Bar here uh you can change
- 00:22:07the S rank score and the the S rank
- 00:22:10score will affect like all the lower
- 00:22:13grades below it but so this is the max
- 00:22:16score that you have to get and no one
- 00:22:18really gives a [ __ ] about these anymore
- 00:22:20um in editor but it's probably good to
- 00:22:23put some number in but so it's not just
- 00:22:26zero it just looks nicer on the score
- 00:22:27screen and then then of course level
- 00:22:29title you can if you don't like what you
- 00:22:30originally called it you can change that
- 00:22:32so instead of editor one we're going to
- 00:22:33call it editor zero and it would
- 00:22:38change also you can change your author
- 00:22:41yeah go I was going to say um with
- 00:22:43changes being made in the top right with
- 00:22:46the grid section and the wall guides it
- 00:22:48says level settings if at all that
- 00:22:51you're making a level and you want to
- 00:22:52change your player character there is a
- 00:22:55possibility that I think it does delete
- 00:22:57your enemies it's actually correct so if
- 00:22:59you go to options if you've made a
- 00:23:00mistake and you choose level settings uh
- 00:23:03you can do that it'll warn you that
- 00:23:05you'll lose your enemy placement if you
- 00:23:07only if you change to a character who
- 00:23:10can't use uh the enemies that you have
- 00:23:13set so I go to henchmen he only has gang
- 00:23:17so we would lose those if we choose them
- 00:23:18we can change the song change the
- 00:23:20title and that shouldn't be an issue
- 00:23:24yeah that's a good point say I change
- 00:23:29say I changed to the rat let's go to the
- 00:23:31rat and I hit okay uh we'll lose hammer
- 00:23:33and we'll lose this little thing but we
- 00:23:35can put him
- 00:23:37here and we can put his little buop and
- 00:23:39see the enemies didn't leave because we
- 00:23:40didn't choose that yeah
- 00:23:45okay we're just going to say I'm in
- 00:23:47Pakistan right now yeah um please donate
- 00:23:50to Matt he's trying to get out of Syria
- 00:23:52right
- 00:23:53now no no no so yeah I can you can leave

- 00:24:12floor so Control Alt F or clicking new
- 00:24:15floor under the level tab in the
- 00:24:18toolbar and it will create this and I
- 00:24:21forgot so you're like oh crap well where
- 00:24:24is everything how do I know you click
- 00:24:25show wall guide and this is what the
- 00:24:28bottom floor look like this will help
- 00:24:30you line everything
- 00:24:31up so he's going to come from the stairs
- 00:24:37here so we're going to want to continue
- 00:24:39stairs there and this looks absolutely
- 00:24:41horrid I'm
- 00:24:42sorry yeah so that'll look good and
- 00:24:47then he'll have and it's not a huge deal
- 00:24:50if the two floors don't match up with
- 00:24:53each other I don't think most people are
- 00:24:55paying attention but it's nice to know
- 00:24:56exactly like where he comes up the
- 00:24:58stairs yeah just basically yeah trace
- 00:25:01your previous kind of floor and
- 00:25:02obviously I would leave that setting on
- 00:25:04at all times mhm just use your best
- 00:25:06judgment to line it up and how you think
- 00:25:08the next transition can look so we have
- 00:25:11the second floor and we have breakable
- 00:25:12walls here I forgot to cover those shoot
- 00:25:14them with a shotgun they break otherwise
- 00:25:16you're not going to get through them uh
- 00:25:17you'll be able to figure it
- 00:25:20out so once you've completed this floor
- 00:25:23and you want to link
- 00:25:24them uh you what I just did there is I
- 00:25:27held shift in control at the same time
- 00:25:29and the right and left Arrow
- 00:25:31key to uh shoot back and forth through
- 00:25:35them so once you want them to go you go
- 00:25:36floor
- 00:25:37transition and just like any object you
- 00:25:40can change the direction you can't make
- 00:25:41it go uh anything but 90 degrees but
- 00:25:46it's the same concept and you will click
- 00:25:49and drag where you want to go so click
- 00:25:52and drag in the direction that you want
- 00:25:54him to go so he has to be walking that
- 00:25:57direction for the floor transition to go
- 00:26:00and these sliders will allow you to put
- 00:26:04like that's what he'll spawn on that
- 00:26:06level so he won't if you don't move it
- 00:26:08he'll uh right where he walks that's
- 00:26:11where he'll Appeal on the next floor but
- 00:26:12if you slide the X and Y axis he'll
- 00:26:15appear someplace different so we want
- 00:26:18him a little bit further up the stairs
- 00:26:20so we'll put him right
- 00:26:22here maybe I can get it there we go and
- 00:26:26the more floors you have the more check
- 00:26:27boxes you'll have have I can't check
- 00:26:29first obviously because it's already on
- 00:26:30the first uh but that it's pretty simple
- 00:26:34that's how that works yeah just get a
- 00:26:35feel for it and you'll kind of see how
- 00:26:37it is and if you make mistakes
- 00:26:39especially like you said when you have
- 00:26:40multiple floors just go in and adjust it
- 00:26:43but
- 00:26:44yeah all right and then make sure to
- 00:26:47create one to go back or you can't leave
- 00:26:48the level they only work one way so you
- 00:26:51have to make two to go one to go up and
- 00:26:53one to go down right and make sure too
- 00:26:56that you're not overlapping like he's
- 00:26:57doing kind kind of pushing him more away
- 00:26:59from the bottom staircase of the first
- 00:27:01floor so again like when he enters from
- 00:27:04the second floor to the first floor he's
- 00:27:06not going to hit that level transition
- 00:27:08again and it's going to bring him back
- 00:27:09up also if you don't like stairs you can
- 00:27:12do
- 00:27:13elevators elevators act pretty much just
- 00:27:17like floor
- 00:27:18Transitions and uh wherever you put them
- 00:27:22the person's going to rise at that spot
- 00:27:25and he they'll show up right there
- 00:27:29now we have a beautiful level you're
- 00:27:30happy with it you want to test it you
- 00:27:32want to see if it plays well you uh go
- 00:27:34to file I would recommend saving it
- 00:27:37option often because you never know when
- 00:27:39you're going to get a crash but you're
- 00:27:40going to go oh by the way uh my Jakes
- 00:27:43are all lined up together correctly
- 00:27:46now uh and play level or control P
- 00:27:49control p is faster so it'll give you
- 00:27:52the
- 00:27:53basic uh loading screen unless you
- 00:27:56change it you can only change it with
- 00:27:57campaign
- 00:27:58and here you go you start up the
- 00:28:02level oh yeah I can't go backwards I set
- 00:28:06that all right so we cleared this floor
- 00:28:09so now we can't go through this one cuz
- 00:28:11I locked it this one can now open
- 00:28:14because we cleared everyone on the floor
- 00:28:16and these are oh yeah I correctly did
- 00:28:18this and here's the mirrored ones so go
- 00:28:23here boom all right now your level plays
- 00:28:27amazingly you walk down you go to your
- 00:28:32car I placed that so
- 00:28:38wrong and it'll spit you back to here
- 00:28:41and you can edit there or you can
- 00:28:42publish it we'll cover publishing
- 00:28:44another video I hope that this like 30
- 00:28:47minute Fiasco uh was a help for you or
- 00:28:51kind of closing we'll talk about just
- 00:28:53special effects which Rob going to show
- 00:28:56you at the top it's under the level file
- 00:29:00and here we've already done new floor
- 00:29:02previous floor uh create cut scene will
- 00:29:04be in a different
- 00:29:05video so the first one is ADD rain which
- 00:29:08instantly adds it to the entire map and
- 00:29:10to get rain out of your indoor areas you
- 00:29:12click and
- 00:29:14drag so you can click and drag from like
- 00:29:17any
- 00:29:18direction and just make sure it's lined
- 00:29:20up and when you're happy with it you
- 00:29:22right click and you'll be out of that
- 00:29:23menu if you're unhappy with it you're
- 00:29:25going to have to restart from scratch
- 00:29:27because
- 00:29:29it's just poorly designed uh the other
- 00:29:31thing is daylight which you can't change
- 00:29:35everything's just brightly lit now and
- 00:29:39you can remove it by clicking the same
- 00:29:46button back same with
- 00:29:51daylight going to remove that and the
- 00:29:55other thing is
- 00:29:59darkness which just like the rain you
- 00:30:02click and drag and now that room is dark
- 00:30:05and you can multiply the effect even
- 00:30:08worse so have Darkness yeah just layer
- 00:30:10it and I mean it takes processing power
- 00:30:14but you have now if you're unhappy with
- 00:30:15the way you did Darkness you're going to
- 00:30:17have to hit controll alt
- 00:30:20D and hit it again to open up the tab
- 00:30:23again you have to just
- 00:30:25restart yeah and that's what it is TDS
- 00:30:28what's different about the rain and the
- 00:30:29Darkness effect is that the rain you
- 00:30:31start out and the entire area is covered
- 00:30:34and where you're basically is
- 00:30:35highlighting areas of course like the
- 00:30:37interior that you're not going to let or
- 00:30:40just not have rain there but
- 00:30:41unfortunately with Darkness um which
- 00:30:44kind of makes sense that again you're
- 00:30:46just specifically highlighting it's not
- 00:30:47the entire area you're starting out with
- 00:30:49it's just specific um rooms that you're
- 00:30:51going to be ising that forward like he
- 00:30:53just did with the the fat guy in the top
- 00:30:56right all
- 00:30:59right uh what else is there um Sunset
- 00:31:03which is similar
- 00:31:05to uh brightness or
- 00:31:09daylight it's pretty much the same
- 00:31:13thing I'm not sure exactly what it
- 00:31:15changes do you know what it changes me
- 00:31:18um with sunlight uh add daylight or add
- 00:31:22Sunset I think um Sunset is the one
- 00:31:26that's there's one of them that's like
- 00:31:28kind of overbearing I know obviously
- 00:31:30it's using like um stronghold um yeah I
- 00:31:34think it's just the variation of how
- 00:31:37intense the brightness is yeah and some
- 00:31:39of them I again I can't really recall
- 00:31:41which one it is but one of them is kind
- 00:31:42of overbearing and
- 00:31:45typically yeah like it's rare that
- 00:31:47people use them but it might give a good
- 00:31:49kind of effect to a level depending on
- 00:31:51the scenery like you might have a like
- 00:31:53Resort type
- 00:31:56Place uh also another option is change
- 00:31:59background and this is the basic one
- 00:32:02pink cyan or there's dark brown which I
- 00:32:04think will also add thunder
- 00:32:07noises yes the the brown yeah I think
- 00:32:11yeah Brown does that the red one is just
- 00:32:13a default red red is just default uh
- 00:32:15jungle day will add trees and that uh
- 00:32:18evening and night uh it'll just change
- 00:32:21like the shade of the tree and then
- 00:32:22ocean waves like uh Dead Ahead be ocean
- 00:32:26waves you can't see it until you hit
- 00:32:28okay and then it looks like that I think
- 00:32:32the best one if we have rain is going to
- 00:32:34be dark
- 00:32:36brown uh these don't show up in campaign
- 00:32:39but in single levels it really helps uh
- 00:32:42set the mood if you want a certain mood
- 00:32:45you're saying also level borders it's
- 00:32:47another click and drag sort of deal and
- 00:32:51it's one of those kind of useless
- 00:32:53scenarios
- 00:32:56unfortunately but
- 00:32:59uh when we get to notepad++ they're
- 00:33:02super important but until then I
- 00:33:04wouldn't worry about that yeah and I was
- 00:33:06going to say too with um the build Tab
- 00:33:08and the first tab on the uh far right
- 00:33:11going with level borders and the same
- 00:33:13thing there's a um Little Red Cube and
- 00:33:18it's oh yeah we forgot to cover this uh
- 00:33:20it's invisible
- 00:33:22walls uh you can't see them when you're
- 00:33:25actually playing the game but you sure
- 00:33:26can't go through them
- 00:33:28yeah and I think there's sometimes
- 00:33:30glitches where enemies will kind of go
- 00:33:31through them but for this example we
- 00:33:33might kind of border reor so he's like
- 00:33:37the player's not able to kind of go
- 00:33:38around the whole building and just kind
- 00:33:40of contain him there but make sure of
- 00:33:42course uh he can access the car or in
- 00:33:46his case The Bu stops you're not like
- 00:33:49straining him they're
- 00:33:50contextual M and I'm going to flip that
- 00:33:53bus seat cuz it was bothering
- 00:33:56me
- 00:33:59okay but in terms of I think we did yeah
- 00:34:03yeah in terms of closing words I was
- 00:34:06going to say um how many floors is too
- 00:34:09little or too much um now realistically
- 00:34:13I mean of course the game is not
- 00:34:14realistic but if you're making a house
- 00:34:17like just a normal house level like this
- 00:34:19is decent it's not really going to have
- 00:34:22six floors and I think typical for that
- 00:34:25it's going to be like three to four
- 00:34:28and when we kind of get to level
- 00:34:30development um you have issues where
- 00:34:33like levels kind of seem to drag on or
- 00:34:35like they're too short but of course
- 00:34:37kind of using your best judgment um when
- 00:34:39to get making these settings but of
- 00:34:41course like I've said um we'll touch
- 00:34:42space with this in our next video but I
- 00:34:45think closing words best advice overall
- 00:34:48and everyone agrees on this is
- 00:34:50experience and you defin just play
- 00:34:53around with the editor like I know when
- 00:34:54I first started I was just messing with
- 00:34:56it for like a month or so so and um just
- 00:35:00trial and error and don't garbage don't
- 00:35:02worry just keep uh making that garbage
- 00:35:05better and better and eventually you're
- 00:35:06going to have nice levels yeah yeah and
- 00:35:07like don't be intimidated it's like
- 00:35:08obviously you're just making whatever
- 00:35:10but of course just take your time with
- 00:35:12making your content and of course we
- 00:35:14hope that don't do this this is bad this
- 00:35:17is bad this is just for the basics next
- 00:35:19next episode I think we're going to make
- 00:35:21it uh look nicer yeah we'll touch one of
- 00:35:24the episodes at least but um yeah I
- 00:35:27think that's why I'm say all right well
