    the office what are some of the things

    that you do so the first thing every

    morning that I do is I go through all of

    our stockouts from the prior day and

    I basically do a root cause analysis on

    why we missed the orders and if they are

    attributed to forecast I validate that

    our forecast was in fact the root cause

    of the Miss if it was then I take

    corrective action whether that's

    reaching out to a new customer who um we

    won some business with that we didn't

    know about before and projecting what
  • 00:01:37
    they're going to do in the future or

    making changes to our forecast models to

    better predict that demand in the future

    um and then the remainder of the day

    really depends on what period we're in

    in our demand planning cycle so I may be

    working with Finance on validating our

    our plans for the upcoming week I may be

    working with um our snop team to

    determine what our forecasts are as they

    relate to capacity moving forward um but

    most of my activities throughout the DAT

    kind of revolve around our forecasts and

    uh people love and uh they love to tap

    into which is fantastic for the BYU

    Idaho brand um for me today I primarily

    use uh software that is outside of excel

    I had there uh all really stressed

    and um uh made sure that we were

    focusing on um that helped me prepare

    for my career in ways that I probably

    wouldn't have H so I'd probably say that

    okay um and then what advice would you

    have for a senior or any other supply
  • 00:03:56
    chain student at BYU Idaho just to

    prepare them for the career and what

    they could look forward to

    do so I'm going to give you three pieces

    of
  • 00:04:05
    advice one of them is more a a statement
  • 00:04:08
    on current conditions but uh if you've
  • 00:04:11
    done your homework on supply chain and
  • 00:04:14
    and the supply chain profession right
  • 00:04:17
    now there's a talent Gap so that what
  • 00:04:19
    that means is that there's more demand
  • 00:04:21
    for supply chain professionals than
  • 00:04:23
    there are individuals who can meet that
  • 00:04:25
    demand so it it's great for kids that
  • 00:04:27
    are in college because it means more
  • 00:04:30
    opportunities better paying jobs um and
  • 00:04:32
    you can kind of Take Charge in those
  • 00:04:35
    negotiations and get what you want um
  • 00:04:39
    that Outlook has changed recently where
  • 00:04:42
    they believe that by
  • 00:04:44
    2020 that Gap is going to close um I
  • 00:04:47
    think it's going to be a little bit
  • 00:04:48
    earlier but that that's what industry
  • 00:04:50
    experts are saying right now so it's not
  • 00:04:53
    going to be enough anymore to have a
  • 00:04:54
    supply chain degree um you need to be
  • 00:04:58
    technically proficient with which uh BYU
  • 00:05:01
    Idaho students are but you also really
  • 00:05:03
    need to understand um finances in the
  • 00:05:07
    organization and how to speak to
  • 00:05:09
    managers about those uh Financial
  • 00:05:11
    targets that the business has you need
  • 00:05:13
    to be able to present your ideas and
  • 00:05:16
    convince others uh and you need to be
  • 00:05:18
    able to
  • 00:05:20
    um to kind of think systematically about
  • 00:05:23
    the business and how your role impacts
  • 00:05:25
    others and be able to speak to that so
  • 00:05:28
    so Lear learn everything that you can at
  • 00:05:31
    school um because it's all going to be
  • 00:05:33
    relevant the further down the road you
  • 00:05:35
    go number two any job postings you see
  • 00:05:38
    today outside of school the majority of
  • 00:05:41
    them will say Apex certifications or
  • 00:05:44
    some other certification preferred um I
  • 00:05:48
    strongly recommend that you look into
  • 00:05:50
    getting those certifications because
  • 00:05:51
    they will help you in your careers um
  • 00:05:55
    not only from from having that brand but
  • 00:05:57
    from the network that it provides as as
  • 00:05:59
    well um and then the last little bit of
  • 00:06:02
    advice is that when you come out of
  • 00:06:04
    school I thought that I knew everything
  • 00:06:06
    and very quickly I learned that I didn't

    um so be humble learn from those around
  • 00:06:10
    you they've been in the field for a long
  • 00:06:13
    time they um have expertise that you can
  • 00:06:16
    grow from and the if you come out with
  • 00:06:18
    too much pride in yourself it will take
  • 00:06:20
    you longer to to grow so so stay humble
