- 00:03:20so always make sure to tune in but
- 00:03:22without further Ado let's get back to
- 00:03:23the video all right so most of you
- 00:03:25probably know what a vampire is thanks
- 00:03:27to Dracula and Twilight and whatnot but
- 00:03:31do you know where they originated from
- 00:03:34and do you know the very dark dark
- 00:03:37following that has emerged because of
- 00:03:40them well today we're going to talk
- 00:03:41about just that so for those of you for
- 00:03:43some reason who don't know what a
- 00:03:45vampire is basically the vampire is a
- 00:03:47mythical creature of Darkness blood and
- 00:03:50immortality that has captured the human
- 00:03:52imagination for centuries from ancient
- 00:03:55folklore to contemporary films and
- 00:03:57literature the vampire story is Rich
- 00:04:00multifaceted and deeply tied to human
- 00:04:03history fear and belief but where did
- 00:04:06the legend of the vampire originate and
- 00:04:08how did it evolve into the figures that
- 00:04:10we recognize today I think we need to
- 00:04:12start from the beginning which was in
- 00:04:14early Mesopotamia and Mediterranean
- 00:04:16civilizations so the earliest known
- 00:04:19references to vampire likee beings come
- 00:04:21from the ancient civilizations of
- 00:04:23Mesopotamia Greece and Rome and while
- 00:04:26these creatures were not necessarily
- 00:04:27called vampires they shared many traits
- 00:04:30associated with later Vampire Legends
- 00:04:32first up we have lilu and lashu in
- 00:04:36Mesopotamia and the samarians and
- 00:04:37Babylonians had myths surrounding lilu a
- 00:04:40demon who prayed on newborns and
- 00:04:42pregnant women by draining their life
- 00:04:44force in lash to another demon was
- 00:04:47similarly feared for her nocturnal
- 00:04:49attacks on infants and mothers leaving
- 00:04:51her victims weakened and sickened
- 00:04:53evoking early ideas of creatures living
- 00:04:55off others Vitality AKA The Blood next
- 00:04:58we have
- 00:05:00and Laya I'm probably saying those wrong
- 00:05:03from ancient Greece and in ancient
- 00:05:04Greece the impas were shape-shifting
- 00:05:07demons who feasted on blood and seduced
- 00:05:09men slay while lamia was cursed to drink
- 00:05:13the blood of children that's not as good
- 00:05:15and these early Mediterranean myths laid
- 00:05:17the groundwork of the idea of female
- 00:05:20seductive and bloodthirsty entities a
- 00:05:22common theme among vampire mythology AKA
- 00:05:25would basically bred the sexy vampires
- 00:05:28you see in today's media and then we
- 00:05:30have the early Chinese and Indian
- 00:05:31beliefs the vatala was an undead spirit
- 00:05:34that inhibited corpses preying on humans
- 00:05:36by possessing their bodies though not a
- 00:05:38vampire in the modern sense the vella's
- 00:05:41association with death possession and
- 00:05:43malevolence Echoes vampire traits and
- 00:05:46the jangi in China which also I probably
- 00:05:49pronouncing that wrong in I apologize or
- 00:05:51otherwise called the hopping vampire was
- 00:05:53a reanimated corpse that drained the
- 00:05:55life essence of its victims otherwise
- 00:05:58known as key and like later European
- 00:06:00vampires the Jang XI was often depicted
- 00:06:03as a creature that prayed on the living
- 00:06:05to sustain its unnatural existence which
- 00:06:07brings us to the European vampire
- 00:06:10otherwise known as the Middle Ages to
- 00:06:11early modern period so the modern
- 00:06:14conception of the vampire as a
- 00:06:16reanimated corpse that drinks blood of
- 00:06:18the living owes much to the folklore of
- 00:06:20Eastern Europe particularly the Slavic
- 00:06:22regions the stroy in Romania was an
- 00:06:26undead being that returned from the
- 00:06:28grave to feed on the blood of the living
- 00:06:30so like just that classic like out of
- 00:06:32the Grave bust through go kind of like a
- 00:06:35zombie almost like a zombie and the
- 00:06:36stroy was thought to be created through
- 00:06:38like a violent death or an improper
- 00:06:41burial and could be dispatched only
- 00:06:43through specific rituals such as
- 00:06:45decapitation K or driving a stake
- 00:06:48through the heart which I'm sure a lot
- 00:06:50of you have heard of that wooden steak
- 00:06:52through the vampires heart it's the only
- 00:06:54way to kill a vampire turns out it's not
- 00:06:56allegedly and then we have NOS veratu in
- 00:06:58Transylvania ler made famous by Braum
- 00:07:00Stoker's Dracula nosu was a plague
- 00:07:04carrier and was believed to spread death
- 00:07:06and disease through the nocturnal
- 00:07:07feeding and these vampires could be
- 00:07:09repelled by garlic you heard that one
- 00:07:12holy water and or a crucifix elements
- 00:07:15that became Staples in later Western
- 00:07:17vampire myths so let's talk a little bit
- 00:07:19about the role of religion and
- 00:07:21Superstition in Vampire beliefs and a
- 00:07:23lot of that stemmed from the Black Death
- 00:07:26the Black Death being the Bubonic plague
- 00:07:28which decimated Europe in the 14th
- 00:07:31century and it gave rise to the fear of
- 00:07:33death and the undead Mass Graves
- 00:07:36unburied bodies and the rapid spread of
- 00:07:38disease LED people to attribute these
- 00:07:40tragedies to Supernatural causes
- 00:07:42naturally and the reports of revenant
- 00:07:45corpses that returned to the dead to
- 00:07:46terrorize the living were common during
- 00:07:48the plague years which like yeah that
- 00:07:50makes sense you know you got nothing
- 00:07:51else going on there's like snake oil
- 00:07:54doctors and witches and stuff why
- 00:07:56wouldn't you believe in some dude coming
- 00:07:57up from the dead and drinking your blood
- 00:07:59and you the plague at night I mean
- 00:08:00that's what would fuel me honestly and
- 00:08:02then we obviously have the Christianity
- 00:08:04influence as well cuz in Christian
- 00:08:06Europe vampires were often associated
- 00:08:08with hearsay sin and the devil the idea
- 00:08:11of the vampire as a creature damned for
- 00:08:13eternity and trapped between life and
- 00:08:16death resonated a lot with religious
- 00:08:18fears of Eternal damnation so the use of
- 00:08:20holy symbols like crosses holy Waters
- 00:08:23and the consecrated ground to ward off
- 00:08:25vampires reflects the Deep ties between
- 00:08:27vampire folklore and Christian belief
- 00:08:30and then we jump ahead to the vampire
- 00:08:32Panic of the 18th century in the 18th
- 00:08:34century vampire hysteria gripped Eastern
- 00:08:37Europe particularly in regions such as
- 00:08:39Hungary Poland and Serbia examinations
- 00:08:42of suspected vampires became common and
- 00:08:45grizzly rituals to prevent their return
- 00:08:47including decapitation and driving
- 00:08:49Stakes through the heart were
- 00:08:50participated widely that's crazy that's
- 00:08:54like you're just digging your mom up cuz
- 00:08:55you think she might have been a vampire
- 00:08:56and
- 00:08:57just re killing her somehow that's like
- 00:09:01I guess there was not a lot to do back
- 00:09:02then either so like again why not I
- 00:09:05guess and the reports of vampire attacks
- 00:09:07circulated in newspapers across Europe
- 00:09:09further fueling the panic and this is
- 00:09:11also when vampirism would transition
- 00:09:13from folklore to literature in the 18th
- 00:09:16and 19th century a shift that would lay
- 00:09:18the groundwork for the modern vampire
- 00:09:20archetype books such as the vampire
- 00:09:22written in 1819 written by John pelador
- 00:09:26was one of the first works of vampire
- 00:09:28fiction in the English language and
- 00:09:29Poor's vampire lord ruthin was a
- 00:09:32sophisticated aristocratic figure who
- 00:09:35prayed on high society contrasting with
- 00:09:37the crude peasant vampires of folklore
- 00:09:40and this portrayal would influence the
- 00:09:42refined and seductive image of vampires
- 00:09:45in later literature like Twilight I'm
- 00:09:48making fun of it but I literally love
- 00:09:50Twilight okay Team Edward all the way
- 00:09:52and this next one Carmela was written in
- 00:09:541872 and is fire all right it was
- 00:09:57written by Sheridan leano and Carmela is
- 00:10:00introduced as the first significant
- 00:10:02female vampire to Western literature
- 00:10:04Carmela a beautiful and seductive
- 00:10:06vampire Praise on young women
- 00:10:09intertwining themes of eroticism death
- 00:10:12and the supernatural basically
- 00:10:13everything I know you like I know you do
- 00:10:16I'm looking at you you're going to read
- 00:10:17this book after I know it and Carmela
- 00:10:19would become an important precursor to
- 00:10:21later vampire literature particularly
- 00:10:23with its exploration of lesbianism and
- 00:10:25seduction again slay and then we
- 00:10:27obviously have braah sto Dracula written
- 00:10:30in 1897 no discussion of vampires is
- 00:10:33ever complete without brm Stoker's
- 00:10:36Dracula which solidified many of the
- 00:10:38traits associated with vampires today
- 00:10:40Count Dracula a Transylvanian nobleman
- 00:10:42turned vampire embodies both the fear
- 00:10:45and fascination with immortality blood
- 00:10:47lust and sexuality Dracula not only
- 00:10:50cemented the vampires place in pop
- 00:10:52culture but also created a template for
- 00:10:55countless vampire stories to come so
- 00:10:57let's move into the modern vire the 20th
- 00:11:00century to present vampire the 20th
- 00:11:02century saw that the vampire myth
- 00:11:04evolved dramatically as it moved into
- 00:11:07film television and later a global pop
- 00:11:10culture Consciousness NOS veratu in 1922
- 00:11:13was a silent German film made by FW
- 00:11:16marau don't know if I said that right
- 00:11:18and remains to be one of the most iconic
- 00:11:20portrayals of a vampire count orlock the
- 00:11:22central character is a far more
- 00:11:24monstrous version of Dracula he's badass
- 00:11:27basically capturing the T and grotesque
- 00:11:30nature of the vampire myth highly
- 00:11:32recommend watching it and Universal's
- 00:11:34Dracula made in 1931 portrayed Count
- 00:11:37Dracula I'm sure most people know who
- 00:11:40that is and this became the definitive
- 00:11:42image of what a vampire is for decades
- 00:11:45to come with the classic slickback hair
- 00:11:49thick Transylvania accent uh uh uh count
- 00:11:54on Sesame Street shout out and evening
- 00:11:56attire and loso's Dracula was both
- 00:11:58menacing and mesmerizing creating an
- 00:12:01indelible cultural image and as the 20th
- 00:12:04century progressed vampires became more
- 00:12:07nuanced figures in the media with the
- 00:12:09publication of Anne Rice's interview
- 00:12:11with a vampire in 1976 and the film
- 00:12:14adaptation in 1994 vampires were no
- 00:12:17longer just monsters but tragic tortured
- 00:12:20beings grappling with their immortality
- 00:12:22and moral dilemmas I don't know if I
- 00:12:25hate this movie or love it I think I
- 00:12:28love it I think it just dragged on a bit
- 00:12:30I think I love it I rewatch I rewatched
- 00:12:32it a few years ago I got to I got to
- 00:12:33revisit it but it's got Brad Pit and Tom
- 00:12:35Cruz in it you can't really go wrong
- 00:12:37with that and uh I think little cursed
- 00:12:39and Dunst is that her name it's pretty
- 00:12:41good though and in the 21st century we
- 00:12:43saw a new wave of vampire narratives
- 00:12:46that Blended horror romance and social
- 00:12:49commentary yes I'm talking about
- 00:12:50Twilight I know all you want to hear
- 00:12:52about is Twilight and I don't really
- 00:12:53need to explain it but Twilight is
- 00:12:55Stephanie Meyers book published in 2005
- 00:12:58and the series reimagined vampires as
- 00:13:01brooding Immortal teenagers and the
- 00:13:04romance between a human girl and a
- 00:13:06vampire with the moralized conflict over
- 00:13:09bloodlust brought the vampire myth into
- 00:13:11the mainstream for younger audience
- 00:13:13sparking a global pop culture
- 00:13:18phenomenon phenomenon doesn't even begin
- 00:13:20to explain what this did to culture what
- 00:13:22it did to me I think Twilight shaped me
- 00:13:25into the person I am today I think did
- 00:13:27it shape you if not that's probably for
- 00:13:29for the best I still like watch the
- 00:13:30movie back and I feel things that I
- 00:13:32probably shouldn't feel but I do so and
- 00:13:35then we have shows like True Blood in
- 00:13:362008 and 2014 and The Vampire Diaries
- 00:13:39from 2009 to 2017 and these television
- 00:13:42shows explored the themes of Desire
- 00:13:44identity and power with vampires as
- 00:13:47metaphors for societal issues like civil
- 00:13:50rights sexuality and alienation and
- 00:13:52these genres just continued to evolve
- 00:13:55not just focusing on the horror of
- 00:13:56vampirism but on the complexity of
- 00:13:58relationship ships communities and
- 00:14:00politics in the Supernatural World which
- 00:14:02is important we also have movies like
- 00:14:04blade underworld 30 Days of Night which
- 00:14:06I cannot recommend enough I think it's
- 00:14:08so fun and awesome it's basically this
- 00:14:11horror film based off a graphic novel
- 00:14:12and it's set in Alaska where vampires
- 00:14:14descend on a small town during a month
- 00:14:16of complete darkness and the film
- 00:14:18focuses on Survival horror and depicts
- 00:14:19vampires as ruthless monstrous predators
- 00:14:22and those were like a favorite kind
- 00:14:24besides Twilight of course but give it a
- 00:14:26watch if you like horror and then he got
- 00:14:27shows like puffy the vamp Empire Slayer
- 00:14:29which I never really got into but I hear
- 00:14:31it's good and what we do in the shadows
- 00:14:33cannot recommend that enough either it
- 00:14:34is so awesome and funny if you don't
- 00:14:37know what we do in the shadows it's
- 00:14:39there's a show and there's a movie so
- 00:14:41good I don't even really want to explain
- 00:14:43it but it's like comedy meets vampires
- 00:14:46yeah that's basically it but it's like
- 00:14:48ancient vampires in modern day Staten
- 00:14:50Island and it's so so funny and now that
- 00:14:54we covered the basic history of vampires
- 00:14:57we're going to talk about the the the
- 00:14:59Grim outcome of the fascination with
- 00:15:02vampires and that is Vampire Killers cuz
- 00:15:05we couldn't do a deep dive without
- 00:15:06talking about killings could we probably
- 00:15:08not well probably could but didn't want
- 00:15:10to but vampire criminals or Vampire
- 00:15:13Killers or psychopatic vampires are
- 00:15:16people who commit murders and drink
- 00:15:19blood of their victims and in order for
- 00:15:21a crime to be considered a vampire crime
- 00:15:24which I didn't know existed but now I do
- 00:15:26the drinking of blood or the desire to
- 00:15:28drink blood must be a major motive so
- 00:15:31the three reasons why we know a vampire
- 00:15:33crime has been committed are hematomania
- 00:15:36which is uh deriving the pleasure from
- 00:15:39drinking blood gross Renfield syndrome
- 00:15:42the belief that a person is actually a
- 00:15:44vampire which turns out there's a lot
- 00:15:47there's a lot and I was one of them when
- 00:15:48I was a kid wasn't killing people wasn't
- 00:15:50doing any of that any of that nonsense I
- 00:15:52was more just like running around the
- 00:15:53forest just uh screaming and like if you
- 00:15:56know you know if you watch my Tik toks
- 00:15:58from like years ago that was funny for
- 00:16:00you nobody else or the involvement in
- 00:16:02satanic type rituals not me that's just
- 00:16:04one of the three reasons if you're Comm
- 00:16:06of vampire crime anyway but the vampire
- 00:16:08subculture as a whole does not associate
- 00:16:11themselves with these individuals
- 00:16:13stating that they are not real vampires
- 00:16:15and that the subculture does not promote
- 00:16:17violence or crime in any form and we'll
- 00:16:20get into this subculture in a bit I know
- 00:16:23this deep dive is quite literally all
- 00:16:24over the place it's kind of an ADHD Deep
- 00:16:27dive I apologize I wrote it and it's a
- 00:16:29bit all over the place we're going to
- 00:16:30talk about crimes and then we're going
- 00:16:31to talk about the subculture and we're
- 00:16:32going to kind of work from oldest to
- 00:16:34newest as best I can and we're going to
- 00:16:36start with the infamous Vlad the Impaler
- 00:16:39so Vlad III commonly known as Vlad the
- 00:16:42Impaler was active and alive from 1431
- 00:16:47to 1476 or 77 we're not quite sure but
- 00:16:50he is one of the most iconic historical
- 00:16:53figures tied to vampirism largely
- 00:16:55because of his influence on Bram
- 00:16:57Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula and while
- 00:17:00Vlad himself was never believed to have
- 00:17:02actually engaged in vampirism his brutal
- 00:17:05and blood soaked reign as a 15th century
- 00:17:09Prince of Walia Walia Walia hope I'm
- 00:17:13saying that right which is now modern
- 00:17:15day Romania left an indelible mark on
- 00:17:18History blending with regional folklore
- 00:17:20to inspire the archetype vampire figures
- 00:17:23so Vlad was born in 1431 in Transylvania
- 00:17:26in the city of sigur
- 00:17:29sorry if I said that wrong which was
- 00:17:30part of a kingdom of Hungary and his
- 00:17:32father Vlad II dracul was a member of
- 00:17:35the order of the Dragon which sounds
- 00:17:37awesome because if there's anything I
- 00:17:40love more than vampires it's dragons all
- 00:17:42right let me know if you want a deep
- 00:17:43dive on dragons cuz I'll do it but the
- 00:17:45order of dragons was founded to protect
- 00:17:47Christendom from the Ottoman Empire
- 00:17:49whatever that means and the name dracul
- 00:17:52means dragon in Romanian or devil in
- 00:17:55more modern interpretations I was just
- 00:17:57going to say oh I'm going to name my
- 00:17:58first first born that probably not I
- 00:18:00like Dragon not so much the devil and
- 00:18:02Vlad III otherwise known as Vlad the
- 00:18:04Impaler earned the name Dracula which
- 00:18:07means son of the Dragon that's cool
- 00:18:10maybe my firstborn will be Nam now
- 00:18:11probably I shouldn't name it after an
- 00:18:13Infamous serial killer probably
- 00:18:14shouldn't do that never mind and this is
- 00:18:15the origin of the name Dracula which
- 00:18:17stoker later borrowed from his vampir
- 00:18:20account and vlad's life was shaped by
- 00:18:21the constant Warfare between Christian
- 00:18:23Europe and the expanding Ottoman Empire
- 00:18:26and at some point during these wars in
- 00:18:271442 Vlad and his younger brother Ru
- 00:18:31were sent as political hostages to the
- 00:18:33ottoman Court to secure their father's
- 00:18:35loyalty to the sultan and this period of
- 00:18:38captivity profoundly influenced vlad's
- 00:18:40later life fostering a deep hatred for
- 00:18:43the Ottomans and the desire for
- 00:18:45vengeance against those who wronged his
- 00:18:47family guy holds a grudge basically and
- 00:18:49Vlad is most famous for his three Reigns
- 00:18:52as the prince of Walia particularly in
- 00:18:55his second Reign which ranged from 1456
- 00:18:58to 1462 when he earned his notorious
- 00:19:01reputation and the infamous method of
- 00:19:03punishment employed by Val Val whose Val
- 00:19:08employed by Vlad was you guessed it
- 00:19:10impalement victims would be seated on
- 00:19:13Long sharpened wooden Stakes which were
- 00:19:16driven through their bodies often taking
- 00:19:18hours for them to die even sometimes
- 00:19:21days and this practice became so
- 00:19:23widespread that Vlad earned the nickname
- 00:19:26Vlad the Impaler and according to
- 00:19:27historical accounts counts he killed
- 00:19:29tens of thousands of people during his
- 00:19:33Reign including ottoman prisoners Boyer
- 00:19:35Rebels and common criminals his use of
- 00:19:38impalement served both a deterrent to
- 00:19:41his enemies and a form of psychological
- 00:19:43warfare no and there's a place
- 00:19:45called The Forest of the impaled which
- 00:19:47is one of the most chilling stories from
- 00:19:49vlad's Reign which in 1462 during a
- 00:19:52confrontation with the ottoman Sultan
- 00:19:54Vlad ordered the impalement of 20,000
- 00:19:58ottoman soldiers and civilians and this
- 00:19:59would naturally cause his enemies to
- 00:20:02flee and leave the scene because they're
- 00:20:05like that I'm out but anyway though
- 00:20:08Vlad the Impaler was never a vampire in
- 00:20:10the literal sense his blood soaked
- 00:20:12Legacy became intertwined with vampire
- 00:20:15mythology particularly through Bram
- 00:20:17Stoker's Dracula the connection between
- 00:20:19the historical Vlad and the fictional
- 00:20:21Count Dracula is complex and somewhat
- 00:20:23symbolic and this brings us to our next
- 00:20:25vampire serial killer and that is the
- 00:20:27famous or inFAMOUS Elizabeth ba
- 00:20:31otherwise known as The Blood Countess so
- 00:20:34Countess Elizabeth ba was alive from
- 00:20:361560 to 1614 in one of history's most
- 00:20:39infamous figures associated with
- 00:20:41vampirism known as The Blood Countess
- 00:20:43she was Hungarian Noble woman who
- 00:20:45allegedly tortured and killed hundreds
- 00:20:47of young women primarily from the lower
- 00:20:49classes over the span of decades she
- 00:20:52basically just made it her Hobby and her
- 00:20:54reputation as a vampire figure stems
- 00:20:57from maob Legends that that claimed that
- 00:20:59she bathed in the blood of her victims
- 00:21:01to preserve her Youth and beauty though
- 00:21:03the story has been heavily debated by
- 00:21:06historians but Elizabeth baly was born
- 00:21:08to a very powerful aristocratic family
- 00:21:10in Hungary with relatives that held very
- 00:21:12significant political influence her
- 00:21:14Uncle Steven B was the king of Poland
- 00:21:17and her family's wealth and Prestige
- 00:21:19shielded her from scrutiny for many
- 00:21:21years hence why she got away with
- 00:21:22killing hundreds of women and when she
- 00:21:24got married at the age of 15 gross in
- 00:21:271575 her husband would often be away at
- 00:21:30War leaving Elizabeth in control of the
- 00:21:32vast Estates and overseeing the
- 00:21:34day-to-day Affairs of the household
- 00:21:36which included the lives of the peasants
- 00:21:38and servants who worked for her family
- 00:21:40and the legend of Elizabeth crimes and
- 00:21:42cruelty began with rumors of her cruelty
- 00:21:45towards her servants particularly the
- 00:21:47young girls and she reportedly used her
- 00:21:49status to escape any sort of
- 00:21:51repercussion for her actions Over time
- 00:21:53however the stories of her brutality
- 00:21:55grew darker and darker and more
- 00:21:57widespread according to to Witnesses and
- 00:21:59later accounts bie lured young women to
- 00:22:02her castle often under the pretense of
- 00:22:04offering them work or schooling only to
- 00:22:06subject them to horrific and eventually
- 00:22:09murder and the common accusations
- 00:22:11included but were not limited to severe
- 00:22:14beatings and like being whipped burned
- 00:22:17or cut freezing or starvation she would
- 00:22:20love using needles or sither scissors
- 00:22:23What scissors do with that information
- 00:22:26what you will and she was a big fan of
- 00:22:28blood leing and ritualistic elements and
- 00:22:31this is where the vampire myth kind of
- 00:22:33comes in cuz Witnesses later claim that
- 00:22:35Elizabeth drained the blood from her
- 00:22:37victims and in more Sensational accounts
- 00:22:39bathed in the blood of virgins
- 00:22:41specifically believing that that was
- 00:22:43going to rejuvenate properties in her
- 00:22:45skin she's basically doing what what Kim
- 00:22:47Kardashian is doing now with the fa
- 00:22:49blood facials or whatever I don't know
- 00:22:52it's weird that's not the same it's not
- 00:22:53the same I'm I get uncomfortable talking
- 00:22:55about this stuff sometimes and I got to
- 00:22:57say other stuff so I I I know it was a
- 00:22:59long time ago but I hope this is
- 00:23:01burning in hell is what I'm trying to
- 00:23:02say and despite the overwhelming
- 00:23:04evidence against Elizabeth she was never
- 00:23:06actually formerly tried and some
- 00:23:07historians suggest that that was because
- 00:23:08of her Noble status and a public trial
- 00:23:10could have caused embarrassment to her
- 00:23:12powerful family but instead she was just
- 00:23:14imprisoned eventually in a small room
- 00:23:16within her castle she was basically
- 00:23:18grounded where she would remain until
- 00:23:20her death in 1614 at least there were
- 00:23:22some repercussions which brings us to
- 00:23:24our next killer belliss sounds like a
- 00:23:26nice name isn't it it's not otherwise
- 00:23:29known as the vampire of sinot or kinota
- 00:23:32I'm sorry if I'm saying that wrong but
- 00:23:33belliss was a Hungarian serial killer
- 00:23:36active in the early 20th century and is
- 00:23:38one of the more chilling real life
- 00:23:40figures whose Grizzly crimes have
- 00:23:42contributed to the vampire Mythos his
- 00:23:44methodical and ritualistic killings
- 00:23:47especially his apparent obsession with
- 00:23:49blood have earned him the place in the
- 00:23:51annals of criminal history and his story
- 00:23:54has taken on an almost mythological
- 00:23:56quality due to the Eerie details and the
- 00:23:58mystery surrounding his fate biss was
- 00:24:00born in 1877 in Hungary a lot of
- 00:24:03vampires coming out of Hungary and he
- 00:24:04would live most of his life in a small
- 00:24:06town sinoda again sorry if I'm saying
- 00:24:08that wrong near Budapest and he led an
- 00:24:10otherwise unremarkable existence working
- 00:24:13as a tin Smith and cultivating a
- 00:24:15respectable reputation in the local
- 00:24:16community he was described as
- 00:24:18intelligent well spoken and unassuming a
- 00:24:21trusted member of the Town who concealed
- 00:24:23his darker side from the public view so
- 00:24:25in 1912 kiss's wife would run away with
- 00:24:27another man t tisk or probably Justified
- 00:24:30since this guy's a monster and the
- 00:24:31Betrayal is probably the thing that
- 00:24:33triggered his violent tendencies cuz
- 00:24:35soon after this he began placing
- 00:24:37personal ads in a local newspaper
- 00:24:39seeking companionship and promising
- 00:24:41marriages to lonely women and these ads
- 00:24:43primarily targeted women who were
- 00:24:45widowed or unmarried and often in a
- 00:24:47vulnerable financial situation however
- 00:24:49kiss's true intentions were far more
- 00:24:51Sinister than finding a new spouse so
- 00:24:54over several years bicus lured numerous
- 00:24:57women to his home home in Kota I'm just
- 00:24:59going to call it Kota where he promised
- 00:25:01romance Financial stability and marriage
- 00:25:04but once they were isolated he would
- 00:25:06strangle them drain their blood and
- 00:25:08preserve their bodies in large metal
- 00:25:10drums that escalated very fast I'm sorry
- 00:25:13and it is believed that kiss murdered up
- 00:25:14to 24 women though some estimates
- 00:25:17suggest that it is far for more and the
- 00:25:19bodies would be discovered in 1916
- 00:25:21during World War I when kiss had already
- 00:25:24been conscripted into the ostroh
- 00:25:26Hungarian Army his house was being
- 00:25:28acquisitioned by the military for war
- 00:25:30efforts and workers would find several
- 00:25:32metal drums on his property and they
- 00:25:34would naturally open them and see the
- 00:25:36preserved bodies of the women that he
- 00:25:38killed and the corpses would be
- 00:25:40preserved in alcohol which actually
- 00:25:41preserved them remarkably well and each
- 00:25:43bore distinct puncture wounds in their
- 00:25:45neck leading investigators to suspect
- 00:25:47that kiss had drained their blood and
- 00:25:49while there is no conclusive evidence
- 00:25:50that kiss actually drank the blood of
- 00:25:52his victims the fact that he drained it
- 00:25:54at all was particularly alarming because
- 00:25:56this evoked traditional vampire War
- 00:25:58which was very prevalent at the time and
- 00:25:59the deliberate Act of bloodletting and
- 00:26:01then preserving the bodies kind of added
- 00:26:03to the ritualistic element to his crimes
- 00:26:06which led some to speculate about
- 00:26:07vampiric motives and that brings us to
- 00:26:09more recent Vampire Killers yay not yay
- 00:26:13these people are sick and the first guy
- 00:26:14is Fritz Harmon otherwise known as the
- 00:26:17vampire of Hanover and Fritz Harmon was
- 00:26:19a German serial killer active in the
- 00:26:21early 20th century and is one of the
- 00:26:23most infamous examples of criminal
- 00:26:25engaging in vampirism between 19 18 and
- 00:26:291924 Harmon was responsible for the
- 00:26:31murders of at least 24 young men and
- 00:26:34boys in Hanover and Harmon's modus
- 00:26:36operand otherwise known as emo involved
- 00:26:38luring the boys to his apartment where
- 00:26:41he would end their lives by biting
- 00:26:43through their throats in a vampiric
- 00:26:45manner ooh it's just bad and the
- 00:26:48grotesque Act of this gave him the
- 00:26:50nickname The Vampire of Hanover and
- 00:26:53after killing his victims he would often
- 00:26:55get rid of them by
- 00:27:01if you know what I mean though there was
- 00:27:02no confirmed evidence that he actually
- 00:27:05drank their blood I'm going to safely
- 00:27:07assume he probably did and then we have
- 00:27:09the other POS called John George Haye
- 00:27:12otherwise known as the Acid Bath
- 00:27:15murderer and John was an English serial
- 00:27:17killer active in the 1940s best known
- 00:27:19for dissolving the bodies of his victims
- 00:27:21in sulfuric acid however Jon also
- 00:27:24exhibited vampiric like Tendencies as he
- 00:27:26reportedly drank the blood of some of
- 00:27:29his victims hey was specifically
- 00:27:30fascinated with the idea of immortality
- 00:27:33and believed by drinking the blood he
- 00:27:34could attain eternal life news flash
- 00:27:37he's dead guess it didn't work but this
- 00:27:39is a theme commonly found in vampiric
- 00:27:41folklore and Jon's murders were involved
- 00:27:43with wealthy people whom he lured with
- 00:27:45the promises of business deals and
- 00:27:47financial opportunities and after
- 00:27:49killing them he would extract their
- 00:27:50blood and dispose of their bodies in the
- 00:27:52AET leaving zero forensic evidence
- 00:27:55behind and his fascination with blood
- 00:27:56and immortality strongly suggests that
- 00:27:59he had a delusional component that was
- 00:28:01likely rooted in narcissism and
- 00:28:02psychopathy and then we have Richard
- 00:28:04Chase uh the vampire of Sacramento and
- 00:28:07he was active in the 1970s and he is
- 00:28:10quite literally one of the most extreme
- 00:28:11and horrifying examples of criminal
- 00:28:13participating in vampirism as if the
- 00:28:15other ones weren't bad enough and Chase
- 00:28:17was severely mentally ill diagnosed with
- 00:28:20paranoid schizophrenia and he believed
- 00:28:21that he did need to drink blood to
- 00:28:23prevent his heart from shrinking and
- 00:28:25this is a delusion that fueled his
- 00:28:27violent killing spre Chase would murder
- 00:28:29six people in the span of 1 month in
- 00:28:31Sacramento California after killing his
- 00:28:33victims he would drink their blood in
- 00:28:35whatever way he felt best and in some
- 00:28:38cases he would also consume some of
- 00:28:40their organs AKA cannibalism I don't
- 00:28:42know if cannibalism is if you if you
- 00:28:44drink blood is that cannibalism I feel
- 00:28:46like you have to eat it oh God am why
- 00:28:48are you listening to this you're sick
- 00:28:50it's okay we all are but basically his
- 00:28:52crimes were motivated by his intent
- 00:28:54psychosis and belief that consuming
- 00:28:56blood would cure his imagined phys
- 00:28:58physical ailments and then there is
- 00:28:59quite literally so many more cases we'd
- 00:29:02be here forever there's Andre chikatilo
- 00:29:05The Butcher of rosov who killed at least
- 00:29:0752 women and children between the years
- 00:29:091978 and 1990 who would also drink his
- 00:29:12victim's bud and then we have suomu
- 00:29:14Miyazaki the ataku killer who was also
- 00:29:16known as the little girl murderer what
- 00:29:19the who was a Japanese serial killer
- 00:29:21that targeted young girls in the late
- 00:29:231980s who would also drank his victim's
- 00:29:25blood and also ate part of them well I
- 00:29:28don't want to talk about it and then we
- 00:29:30have Marcelo Costa de Andrade who was a
- 00:29:32Brazilian serial killer who was active
- 00:29:34in the 1990s and murdered 14 young boys
- 00:29:37and again drank the blood of his victims
- 00:29:38cuz he thought it would Grant him power
- 00:29:40or strength or something it's so dumb
- 00:29:43and I hope these all these people are
- 00:29:44burning in hell and then there's Rod
- 00:29:46frell otherwise known as the vampire
- 00:29:48clan leader he was the leader of a
- 00:29:49self-styled vampire Clan and committed a
- 00:29:52gruesome double murder in 1996 in
- 00:29:54Florida frell who was 16 at the time
- 00:29:57believed himself to be a 500-year-old
- 00:30:00vampire named visago and frell and his
- 00:30:03followers engaged in ritualistic
- 00:30:05behavior that involved bloodletting and
- 00:30:07drinking blood as part of their vampire
- 00:30:09identity and the list goes on and on and
- 00:30:12on and on there's TR so many cases it is
- 00:30:15actually insane I could talk forever
- 00:30:17about it but let's get into a kind of
- 00:30:20more modern day in the you know 2000s
- 00:30:23kind of time with modern-day vampires
- 00:30:25and the subculture the less violent but
- 00:30:28still consensually violent subculture of
- 00:30:31vampirism and like I said before there
- 00:30:33are a lot of shows that uh revolve
- 00:30:35around vampirism but not just scripted
- 00:30:39shows but also shows that show I guess
- 00:30:43that people walk about the Earth
- 00:30:45thinking that they're a vampire for Real
- 00:30:48uh and not just like the crazy people
- 00:30:49who are killing people but people that
- 00:30:51just consensually drink other people's
- 00:30:53blood by it's consensual it's it's a lot
- 00:30:57but it's very prevalent in New Orleans
- 00:31:00there is quite literally a vampire
- 00:31:01subculture that live in New Orleans and
- 00:31:04this subculture is composed of
- 00:31:06individuals who identify in various ways
- 00:31:08with vampirism whether through symbolic
- 00:31:11practices fashion or even blood
- 00:31:13consumption and they're kind of split up
- 00:31:16into groups there are some that practice
- 00:31:18psychic vampirism which these
- 00:31:20individuals believe that they can drain
- 00:31:22and absorb life energy from others and
- 00:31:25this energy transfer is consensual and
- 00:31:28considered part of the spiritual and
- 00:31:30metaphysical practice and then there's
- 00:31:32sarian sarian sorry if I'm saying that
- 00:31:35wrong and these individuals who consume
- 00:31:37small amounts of blood typically from
- 00:31:40consenting donors as part of their
- 00:31:42identity and in newans specifically
- 00:31:44there are strict protocols and safety
- 00:31:46measures for blood leing within the
- 00:31:48vampire Community how do you get into
- 00:31:50this community who do you talk to you
- 00:31:51just like walk down the street at like
- 00:31:533:00 at night and just say I'm a vampire
- 00:31:56and they all just that would be sick i'
- 00:31:58join wouldn't drink the blood but that'd
- 00:32:00be cool there's even a famous vampire
- 00:32:02themed night in New Orleans called the
- 00:32:04Endless Night vampire ball that's held
- 00:32:06annually around Halloween and this
- 00:32:07lavish event draws thousands of
- 00:32:09attendees from around the world all
- 00:32:11dressed in Gothic vampiric attire and it
- 00:32:13takes place at various venues throughout
- 00:32:15the French quarter and is a celebration
- 00:32:17of vampire culture complete rituals
- 00:32:19dancing and performances sounds kind of
- 00:32:21fun I'm not going to lie and there was
- 00:32:23even a show called The Life of a
- 00:32:25modern-day vampire otherwise known as
- 00:32:27the vampire Chronicles that featured
- 00:32:29many different vampires that live in New
- 00:32:31Orleans one of which is Bazar and basar
- 00:32:35is interesting to say the least
- 00:32:37basically he introduces himself as a
- 00:32:3854-year-old sigin vampire who has been
- 00:32:41drinking blood since the age of 11 and
- 00:32:44he recalls his first experience of
- 00:32:45tasting blood after an altercation with
- 00:32:47his uncle which triggered his vampire
- 00:32:49instincts and awakened his need for
- 00:32:51blood I could actually taste blood and
- 00:32:54Bazar explains how his body shows
- 00:32:56physical signs when when he hasn't
- 00:32:58consumed blood for a while he
- 00:33:00experiences pale skin dull eyes feels
- 00:33:03physically unwell and the need for blood
- 00:33:05is essential for his well-being and it's
- 00:33:07funny how he like humorously is just
- 00:33:09like kind of dismisses the traditional
- 00:33:11myths of vampires like how garlic
- 00:33:13doesn't actually harm them he actually
- 00:33:14enjoys it on Pizza holy water just makes
- 00:33:17them wet kind of thing it was kind of
- 00:33:19funny and he also confirms that he does
- 00:33:20not sleep in a coffin but he has a
- 00:33:22king-size bed which is kind of fire and
- 00:33:24he also discusses how vampires nowadays
- 00:33:27don't have have supernatural abilities
- 00:33:29necessarily that's convenient um but
- 00:33:31instead they use sanitary methods to
- 00:33:33consume blood from willing donors and
- 00:33:35it's so I couldn't watch it I couldn't
- 00:33:37watch it it's kind of it's it was weird
- 00:33:39but he describes how he uses clean
- 00:33:41blades and alcohol swabs to ensure the
- 00:33:43process is safe for both him and the
- 00:33:45donor who is donating who is it I don't
- 00:33:48know you freaks out there man what the
- 00:33:50freak and a psychologist even commented
- 00:33:52on the phenomenon in the show describing
- 00:33:54how individuals like Bazar may be drawn
- 00:33:56into vampiric Behavior due to the
- 00:33:58ritualistic and dramatic nature of the
- 00:34:00practice it allows them to feel unique
- 00:34:03which I think is just our freaking
- 00:34:05culture nowadays everybody needs to be
- 00:34:07different or like have something wrong
- 00:34:08with them conveniently or like be a
- 00:34:10vampire or something like not all people
- 00:34:13obviously but I think it's just like
- 00:34:15that is just and it's and I think it is
- 00:34:16from very much being online it's just
- 00:34:19like okay how can I be different how can
- 00:34:20I stand out it's just like you don't
- 00:34:22need to do all these things you don't
- 00:34:23need to drink blood balazar my God just
- 00:34:26eat your garlic pizza and sleep sleep in
- 00:34:27your king bed and there's also a a
- 00:34:30individual named Don Henry I found him
- 00:34:33he just this is why this all stemmed
- 00:34:35from he's a he's a person that came
- 00:34:37across my a vampire sorry that came
- 00:34:39across my my feed somewhere and I saw a
- 00:34:42clip and I was like what why we're doing
- 00:34:44a special Tyra show vampire
- 00:34:48investigation so let's meet a man known
- 00:34:51as the vampire King Dawn come on out but
- 00:34:55apparently this has been a thing since
- 00:34:572004 he had a show called mad mad house
- 00:34:59on the Sci-Fi channel where he was one
- 00:35:01of the central figures known as an ALT
- 00:35:03of the group's individual with
- 00:35:05alternative Lifestyles and in the show
- 00:35:07Henry represents the vampire subculture
- 00:35:10which gained him the nickname the
- 00:35:12vampire and his calm demeanor
- 00:35:14distinctive appearance and pale skin
- 00:35:16long black hair and dark attire along
- 00:35:18with his mystical Persona attracted
- 00:35:20attention from within the alternative
- 00:35:22community and from mainstream viewers
- 00:35:24like myself and Don Henry is
- 00:35:26specifically a sanguinarian vampire
- 00:35:29which we talked about before meaning he
- 00:35:31claims to have a need to consume small
- 00:35:33amounts of blood human blood to maintain
- 00:35:36his physical and emotional wellbeing and
- 00:35:38according to Henry that is not driven by
- 00:35:40fantasy or myth n nigh but by what he
- 00:35:42describes as an actual physiological
- 00:35:45necessity in various interviews Henry
- 00:35:47has emphasized that his practice is
- 00:35:49consensual involving donors who
- 00:35:50willingly provide blood in a safe and
- 00:35:52controlled environment at least there's
- 00:35:54that and Beyond blood consumption Henry
- 00:35:56also identifies as as an energy vampire
- 00:35:59or psychic vampire a common belief in
- 00:36:01the vampire subculture and energy
- 00:36:02vampires are said to feed off the life
- 00:36:04force or Life Energy called Prana or Chi
- 00:36:07of others to maintain their own energy
- 00:36:10levels and this belief well spiritual is
- 00:36:12often metaphorical and represents a form
- 00:36:14of emotional and psychological exchange
- 00:36:16and they do this in the show and it's
- 00:36:18interesting to say the least Don Henry
- 00:36:20also lives a nocturnal lifestyle for the
- 00:36:22most part he says that his senses are
- 00:36:24more heightened at night mine are blind
- 00:36:27is a bad night I got to wear glasses if
- 00:36:28I drive at night otherwise I am veering
- 00:36:30off a bridge and he also says that he
- 00:36:32has extreme physical discomfort being in
- 00:36:34the sun too long same I'm just very pale
- 00:36:37and I burn I think that's normal it's
- 00:36:39probably normal I'm not trying to be
- 00:36:40disrespectful by the way like do you I
- 00:36:42don't give a as long as you're not
- 00:36:43hurting anybody and everything's
- 00:36:44consensual I don't care but like I said
- 00:36:46mad mad house in 2004 was a reality
- 00:36:48competition Series where contestants
- 00:36:51lived with five individuals from
- 00:36:52alternate Lifestyles known as the alts
- 00:36:54alongside Don Henry who represents the
- 00:36:57vampire Community there were a witch a
- 00:36:59modern primitive a Wiccan and a voodoo
- 00:37:03priest that party would be lit and the
- 00:37:05show's format included the alts
- 00:37:07challenging contestants to tests of
- 00:37:10endurance and understanding their
- 00:37:11respective Lifestyles I'm not the last
- 00:37:15MC make
- 00:37:17say the if you think you can me Bo bet I
- 00:37:21never met another vampire who can do
- 00:37:23that yet and Henry's role as a vampire
- 00:37:25brought significant attention from from
- 00:37:27The Vampire subculture with audience
- 00:37:29intrigued by his calm mysterious Persona
- 00:37:32and the rituals he claimed to practice
- 00:37:33and this basically made him like a
- 00:37:35spokes person for the vampire Community
- 00:37:37he's like the president or at least was
- 00:37:39he was even on like Tyra Banks and a
- 00:37:41couple other interview shows which is so
- 00:37:43interesting and now people like thirst
- 00:37:45over him on Tik Tok that's how I saw uh
- 00:37:47who he was so basically he was like the
- 00:37:49vampire before like Twilight really was
- 00:37:52like a crazy massive pop culture
- 00:37:55phenomenon but yeah it's just
- 00:37:56interesting you know I I think I think
- 00:37:59vampires specifically have like taken
- 00:38:02over our culture in so many ways and a
- 00:38:05lot of negative ways obviously but also
- 00:38:07it's just interesting it's interesting I
- 00:38:09think how so many of us just want to be
- 00:38:12different or like have superpowers and
- 00:38:14it's just like superheroes I think for
- 00:38:16most people it falls into that category
- 00:38:17it's like wow that'd be really cool to
- 00:38:19like turn into a bad or like be sexy and
- 00:38:21read people's minds and not be able to
- 00:38:23sleep and go to an island and I don't
- 00:38:25know have a vampire sleep with you or
- 00:38:27whatever it's like the plot of new moon
- 00:38:29or I can't remember which one but yeah I
- 00:38:30just find it interesting I love these
- 00:38:32like mythological kind of slre things
- 00:38:36that people people have taken people
- 00:38:37have taken very seriously again if you
- 00:38:39enjoyed the video little little history
- 00:38:41lesson let me know down in the comments
- 00:38:43below I'd love to Deep dive into more
- 00:38:44stuff like this dragons question mark
- 00:38:48but until next time I will see your
- 00:38:49beautiful face in the next video all
