00:00:00
hi my name is arto I'm a non-native
00:00:02
English speaker and in this video I'll
00:00:03
share with you how I started speaking
00:00:05
English in just one year so this video
00:00:07
is going to be just like 10 minutes long
00:00:09
and it's a full guide so I'm really
00:00:10
excited for you let's go so first I
00:00:12
started with input I was inputting a lot
00:00:15
of information into my brain like
00:00:17
Breaking Bad you know this is random
00:00:20
like I started watching Breaking Bad I
00:00:21
started watching Minecraft Let's Plays I
00:00:23
started watching different TV shows
00:00:25
videos on YouTube and stuff like that I
00:00:27
also started listening to music and
00:00:29
trying to it a little bit you know it
00:00:31
kind of helped me with my uh speaking
00:00:33
part all right and so after that I
00:00:37
started outputting information right so
00:00:39
first you input the information by
00:00:41
reading listening and watching stuff and
00:00:44
then you try to Output information
00:00:46
finally So the faster you start
00:00:49
outputting the information the better
00:00:51
and so I started with uh going to
00:00:54
communities and trying to communicate
00:00:57
with other people so I used to be a 3D
00:01:00
modeler the guy who makes 3D models all
00:01:02
right I used to do it for a living and I
00:01:05
wanted to participate in a contest a 3D
00:01:08
modeling contest and there there was
00:01:11
like a group of people who were uh
00:01:14
making this contest and they were uh
00:01:17
like doing these 3D models and you
00:01:19
needed to make the best 3D model
00:01:21
possible for this contest and so I was
00:01:24
doing my own 3D model and I needed to
00:01:27
sub submit the 3D model itself to the
00:01:29
contest and so before doing that I
00:01:31
decided to ask for feedback right I
00:01:34
decided to ask for feedback from a lot
00:01:35
of different people and they basically
00:01:38
said that my model looks good but you
00:01:40
can uh change like the texture a little
00:01:42
bit you can change the lighting you can
00:01:44
make the texture look brighter or
00:01:45
something like this and so when they
00:01:48
gave me that feedback I was like I
00:01:50
didn't know how to reply to them because
00:01:51
I because I didn't speak English that
00:01:53
well I yeah it was really hard for me
00:01:56
but I decided to use Google Translate
00:01:59
and to reply to them using Google
00:02:01
translate so when I did that they
00:02:03
actually understood me and then I sent
00:02:05
the next image of the 3D model improved
00:02:08
one right and they said that yeah the 3D
00:02:11
model looks great and so we can actually
00:02:12
upload it on inside the contest right so
00:02:15
I uploaded the 3D model but
00:02:17
unfortunately I didn't win the prize
00:02:20
yeah so after that I started writing
00:02:23
more I started writing in my own diary
00:02:25
so I was watching like self-improvement
00:02:27
videos and reading self-improvement
00:02:28
books so reading self-improvement books
00:02:31
is another way to improve your input
00:02:32
it's like the second level of input that
00:02:34
you can do reading self-improvement
00:02:36
books or fiction books as well but I
00:02:38
think that self-improvement books are a
00:02:40
lot better for you because uh it's a lot
00:02:43
easier to read them it's like I spent a
00:02:45
whole year reading my first book and
00:02:48
simply because it was a fiction book
00:02:50
it's like when you're reading a fiction
00:02:51
book it is really difficult simply
00:02:54
because there's just one story you have
00:02:56
to follow one character one story and
00:02:59
this story continues for like 10
00:03:01
chapters right and so it's really hard
00:03:05
to follow this story especially when you
00:03:07
don't understand anything right but when
00:03:09
you are reading a self-improvement book
00:03:11
there's basically a lot of different
00:03:12
chapters right that are built on top of
00:03:14
each other and so if you understand at
00:03:16
least a few chapters you're going to get
00:03:18
value from this book and when you get
00:03:19
value from this book guess what your
00:03:22
dopamine receptors in your brain fire
00:03:24
right you get a lot of dopamine in your
00:03:26
brain and after that you en reading the
00:03:30
book more and you actually understand
00:03:32
the book better simply because you enjoy
00:03:34
the book right so reading a
00:03:36
self-improvement book is a lot easier
00:03:38
than reading a fiction book and so when
00:03:41
I read a couple of books and watched a
00:03:43
lot of different videos about
00:03:44
self-improvement I started uh writing
00:03:47
about my self-improvement journey I
00:03:49
started writing in my diary I started
00:03:50
writing about my day about my life
00:03:52
things like that right and after that I
00:03:55
also started uh going to different
00:03:57
communities and the communities were
00:03:59
about self improvement of course and so
00:04:01
I tried making different posts about
00:04:02
self-improvement about how I started
00:04:04
improving myself so guys uh you should
00:04:06
follow this advice and this will
00:04:08
definitely help you to improve yourself
00:04:10
I was reading a lot of comments from
00:04:11
different people uh a lot of different
00:04:14
posts videos and stuff like that it
00:04:16
allowed me to improve my writing and it
00:04:19
also improved my input as well and I
00:04:22
learned a lot of different words right
00:04:24
and so I can also recommend you join my
00:04:26
community because I have my own
00:04:28
community of people who want to improve
00:04:30
themselves as well as their English so
00:04:32
how cool is that like you get the
00:04:34
self-improvement community as well as an
00:04:36
english- speaking Community we also have
00:04:37
different speaking calls where we
00:04:39
actually talk about self-improvement
00:04:41
stuff and about how to learn English and
00:04:43
other languages as well so if you want
00:04:45
you can join it and yeah let's talk
00:04:47
about the next part right and the next
00:04:50
part is speaking so after writing a lot
00:04:54
I started speaking of course I started
00:04:56
speaking on my YouTube Channel first
00:04:58
because you know I didn't know why but
00:04:59
it was just kind of easy for me to speak
00:05:01
on the camera of course it was not easy
00:05:03
but it was the easiest thing for me to
00:05:05
do I didn't want to talk to people I
00:05:07
didn't want to talk to anyone basically
00:05:09
because I was really scared to do that I
00:05:11
was an introvert right and for some
00:05:14
reason it was a lot easier for me to
00:05:16
speak to a physical object like my
00:05:18
camera right so I decided to speak about
00:05:22
English so I wanted to make videos about
00:05:24
3D modeling and finally like have a
00:05:25
YouTube channel about 3D modeling but
00:05:27
then I decided that what's the point of
00:05:29
making videos about 3D modeling when I
00:05:31
can speak about the stuff that I
00:05:33
actually do on a day-to-day basis and I
00:05:35
and the stuff that I want to improve
00:05:36
right so I decided to talk about English
00:05:38
and self-improvement so it really helps
00:05:40
me improve my speaking and now I can
00:05:41
speak without a problem for 5 or 10 or
00:05:44
20 minutes all right but still sometimes
00:05:47
I stutter sometimes I make mistakes and
00:05:49
you know this is a human nature like
00:05:51
when you make mistakes it is completely
00:05:53
normal and yeah sometimes I have to cut
00:05:55
myself but I don't do it a lot you know
00:05:57
not cut myself literally but cut my
00:05:59
videos right so I see a lot of different
00:06:02
YouTubers who talk about English they
00:06:05
cannot actually speak English simply
00:06:07
because they cut every freaking second
00:06:09
of the video they're just basically
00:06:11
reading on the camera and then they say
00:06:13
that oh well guys here's how you can
00:06:15
improve your English right so then I
00:06:17
started speaking in English and the
00:06:18
method that I used was very unusual so
00:06:21
the method that I used was speaking on
00:06:23
the camera right I decided to make my
00:06:25
videos about 3D modeling because I
00:06:27
enjoyed 3D modeling and so I was making
00:06:29
videos about how to make a 3D model of a
00:06:32
car how to make a I don't know how to
00:06:36
like tips and tricks about 3D modeling
00:06:38
stuff like that but soon enough I
00:06:40
realized that it's just kind of boring
00:06:42
and I don't really want to do it for the
00:06:44
rest of my life so I decided to talk
00:06:46
about English because I this is actually
00:06:48
what I I'm trying to improve and so if I
00:06:50
talk about what I want to improve I will
00:06:52
actually improve it right because I
00:06:54
literally spoke in English about how to
00:06:56
speak English when I couldn't even speak
00:06:58
English myself right right so I see a
00:07:00
lot of different YouTubers who are
00:07:02
trying to speak English but they don't
00:07:04
really speak it they cut their video
00:07:06
every single second and they say that
00:07:08
their their method of improving English
00:07:11
is the best but actually they don't even
00:07:14
speak English right they simply read the
00:07:16
text on the camera I do a completely
00:07:18
opposite approach and I simply speak all
00:07:21
the time on the camera right like I used
00:07:23
to make videos where the every single
00:07:25
word was scripted and I was cutting my
00:07:28
video every single second but right now
00:07:30
I just simply talk on a camera without
00:07:33
making a lot of cuts simply because it's
00:07:35
a lot better and it also requires me to
00:07:38
have a train of thought it's really
00:07:40
important because if you want to have a
00:07:43
good conversation in English with
00:07:44
somebody you have to have like a train
00:07:46
of thought right if your thoughts are
00:07:49
divided it's like in small chunks right
00:07:52
first you talk about this then you talk
00:07:54
about this then you talk about this it's
00:07:55
going to be really hard it's like
00:07:57
watching Tik Tok when you're watching a
00:07:58
Tik Tok you're basically scrolling
00:08:00
one Tik Tok another Tik Tok different
00:08:02
Tik Tok right but when you are watching
00:08:03
a TV show a long TV show You're simply
00:08:06
watching One
00:08:08
storyline and they talk about one person
00:08:11
you know sometimes they talk about
00:08:12
multiple people right and they're like
00:08:14
two story lines but usually it is really
00:08:17
focused it is a really focused approach
00:08:19
and so you can really adopt the same
00:08:21
approach in your speaking as well so
00:08:25
what I can advise you to do is not to
00:08:27
record videos like me you can simply
00:08:29
record voice messages so when you go to
00:08:32
your grocery store right or when you do
00:08:34
something that requires little or no
00:08:37
attention from you so for example
00:08:39
washing washing your dishes right or uh
00:08:42
driving in a car you can simply grab
00:08:44
your phone and start recording yourself
00:08:46
speaking English so you can basically
00:08:48
download the voice recorder app on your
00:08:49
phone and record your own voice and try
00:08:52
to speak about one single topic so just
00:08:55
one topic for example so today guys I
00:08:58
want to talk about how how to improve
00:09:00
your English and then you talk about how
00:09:01
to improve your English for 10 minutes
00:09:03
or maybe you want to talk about so I
00:09:06
work as a software engineer and today I
00:09:08
want to talk about the struggles of
00:09:09
software engineering right or well I'm a
00:09:12
teacher so I want to talk about
00:09:14
struggles of teaching or I'm a teacher
00:09:16
and I want to talk about the happy
00:09:17
moments from my teaching experience
00:09:19
right something like this of course it
00:09:20
can be like less professional this is
00:09:22
just an example so for example you can
00:09:24
talk about your favorite cat or how your
00:09:26
day went right this can be literally
00:09:28
anything all right so simply talk about
00:09:31
something and this will definitely help
00:09:33
you improve your English and do it on
00:09:35
voice messages right you don't have to
00:09:37
talk to a camera right and then the next
00:09:40
step will be for you is to start
00:09:42
speaking with people when I was
00:09:43
recording my videos it was really
00:09:45
difficult for me to speak to people I've
00:09:46
never spoke to people before you know so
00:09:50
I didn't have the confidence to speak to
00:09:52
people you're like what like you record
00:09:55
videos on YouTube you speak in English
00:09:56
but you don't have the confidence to
00:09:58
speak to people what what what what the
00:09:59
problem right well the thing is if you
00:10:02
learn one thing it doesn't mean that you
00:10:04
will be fluent in other thing right you
00:10:06
need to learn both right it's like if
00:10:09
you want to master your YouTube game if
00:10:12
you want to become a YouTuber of course
00:10:14
you need to level up in your speaking
00:10:16
skills on the camera right but if you
00:10:18
want to start speaking to people this is
00:10:20
a completely different thing you have to
00:10:22
learn how to ask great questions you
00:10:24
have to learn how to listen to people
00:10:26
you have to learn how to become more
00:10:27
confident speaking to people right but
00:10:29
when you're speaking on a camera you
00:10:30
have to follow a completely different
00:10:32
approach So speaking to people was the
00:10:34
next step for me and it didn't really
00:10:36
take me a lot of time to start speaking
00:10:39
to people I simply started going on
00:10:42
different voice calls on in different
00:10:44
communities I also have speaking calls
00:10:46
in my community we basically gather
00:10:48
together and do a speaking call and we
00:10:50
talk about self-improvement English and
00:10:52
stuff like that it is really cool right
00:10:54
and so we can join my community as well
00:10:56
if you want to but if you want to talk
00:10:58
about something else for example example
00:10:59
I don't know maybe you want to talk
00:11:00
about English maybe you want to talk
00:11:02
about traveling of course you can join
00:11:04
other communities and talk about that
00:11:06
and this is going to be the next step
00:11:08
for you in improving your English so
00:11:10
hope this video was really valuable for
00:11:11
you this is how I got from listening to
00:11:13
English and trying to understand English
00:11:15
to becoming a fluent English speaker
00:11:17
right so see you in the next video
