- 00:01:23here uh some of you guys have already
- 00:01:25seen Anton uh let's start with Georgie
- 00:01:28you want to go ahead and introduce
- 00:01:29yourself because these two people are uh
- 00:01:32are wolf pack or what do you call them
- 00:01:34the first group that we've ever had at
- 00:01:36condemnify official group we had one guy
- 00:01:39before them but this is the first two
- 00:01:41students that we have ever had
- 00:01:43officially
- 00:01:45that yeah that's
- 00:01:47that was exciting time
- 00:01:50uh yeah hey everyone my name is Georgie
- 00:01:54um I'm originally from Ukraine but I'm
- 00:01:56based in La now I moved to us in 2016.
- 00:02:01um and I'm working as a senior care
- 00:02:03automation engineer at the moment thanks
- 00:02:05to Sergio yeah and to his academify
- 00:02:09course that's a brief overview if you
- 00:02:12want to ask me questions yeah feel free
- 00:02:13to throw
- 00:02:17introduce yourself as well just in case
- 00:02:19we have people who have not seen our

- 00:02:28somewhere in those spots but yeah
- 00:02:30basically my name is Anton I'm also from
- 00:02:32Ukraine
- 00:02:33um actually right now I'm living in
- 00:02:35Vegas before I was living in L.A so I'm
- 00:02:38currently working as a QA engineer my
- 00:02:41you know stuff is split between like 50
- 00:02:43automation fifty percent manual but yeah
- 00:02:46that's kind of pretty much it
- 00:02:48awesome alrighty and so Georgia is in La
- 00:02:51Agora Hills and uh Anton is in Vegas
- 00:02:55Vegas right now right
- 00:02:57that's right that's right all right yeah
- 00:02:59it's it's good thing you can work like
- 00:03:01from anywhere else right you can work
- 00:03:03from Ukraine as well
- 00:03:06yeah I mean if we're interested in we're
- 00:03:08good yeah

- 00:03:17that's true that's true alrighty well uh
- 00:03:21let's get started with the interview so
- 00:03:23what you're going to do is we're just
- 00:03:24gonna go through questionnaire that
- 00:03:26everyone usually goes during the
- 00:03:28interview and one of us will pick it up
- 00:03:30and answer it and three of us are going
- 00:03:32to discuss that afterwards to see what
- 00:03:35we could improve was good or what's not
- 00:03:36and usually interviews start with a
- 00:03:39question tell me about yourself uh so if
- 00:03:42any one of you guys want to pick up the
- 00:03:44question and give an answer to it
- 00:03:50maybe you can bounce off of my um so
- 00:03:54basically I'll give you the answer first
- 00:03:56and then I'll kind of give you the
- 00:03:58reasons why I structured it in a
- 00:04:00particular way so say hey guys thank you
- 00:04:02for giving me the opportunity uh to talk
- 00:04:05to you and uh possibly get in this
- 00:04:07position uh as of myself I've been a QA
- 00:04:09engineer for past five years for the
- 00:04:12past two years I've spent at company X
- 00:04:15for the last three years I spent the
- 00:04:17company why current company basically
- 00:04:20specializes in you know X Y and Z and I
- 00:04:24would I would kind of explain what it is
- 00:04:26and um you know some of the tools that
- 00:04:28I'm working with include let's say uh
- 00:04:31web driver IO uh together with mocha and
- 00:04:34chai libraries I would use gr for bug
- 00:04:37tracking and I would use test rail for
- 00:04:39test case management I would use Jenkins
- 00:04:42for CCI CD
- 00:04:46um and and I think that's kind of pretty
- 00:04:48much it gives you kind of surface love
- 00:04:49understanding about my about myself if
- 00:04:51you have any more follow-up questions I
- 00:04:53would love to answer those
- 00:04:55awesome can can we actually give the
- 00:04:57full answer with the company you're
- 00:04:59working for right now so people would
- 00:05:01hear the actual answer that you okay
- 00:05:04yeah I just anyone I didn't know if you
- 00:05:06wanted to kind of disclose certain
- 00:05:08things or not but yeah I can definitely
- 00:05:10uh give the full answer right now okay
- 00:05:12so
- 00:05:14thank you guys for giving me the
- 00:05:15opportunity my name is Anton and I'm
- 00:05:18currently working uh for for the past
- 00:05:20four years I've been working as a QA
- 00:05:21engineer for five years
- 00:05:23um and I'm currently working for the
- 00:05:25company called Fortress Technologies uh
- 00:05:28the company specializes in Property
- 00:05:30Management uh we provide the software to
- 00:05:33uh quality buildings and commercial real
- 00:05:35estate to be able to manage your
- 00:05:37properties more efficiently
- 00:05:39um and uh some of the tools that I have
- 00:05:41used in the past that I'm currently
- 00:05:43using include Jeff for bug tracking web
- 00:05:47driver IO together with mocha and chai
- 00:05:49libraries for UI automation Postman for
- 00:05:52API testing
- 00:05:54um some testing for uoi tests so it's
- 00:05:58basically like an online tool where you
- 00:06:00can do it everything without coding
- 00:06:02Jenkins for CI CD and um yeah that's
- 00:06:07kind of pretty much it if you have any
- 00:06:09more questions I would love to answer
- 00:06:10those
- 00:06:12perfect sounds good uh yes usually
- 00:06:15that's how and people answer this
- 00:06:16question and in my opinion there was
- 00:06:19pretty much excellent because you gave
- 00:06:20the basics of the company what they do
- 00:06:22right can you explain you explain that
- 00:06:24and then you've told what tools do you
- 00:06:26use this company at this company and
- 00:06:28usually recruiters for key managers
- 00:06:31whoever is the interviewer would ask
- 00:06:33follow-up questions based on his speech
- 00:06:35and what I think was it wasn't bad but
- 00:06:38what I think was missing I mean it was
- 00:06:41possibly the space left by Anton for
- 00:06:43them to ask questions about is his role
- 00:06:45what is exactly he do at his role so as
- 00:06:48the QA manager whoever is the
- 00:06:49interviewer I will ask hey could you
- 00:06:51please tell me a little bit more about
- 00:06:53your uh your job duties what do you do
- 00:06:55on a daily basis and what what are your
- 00:06:57responsibilities for the current job
- 00:06:59yeah that's that's exactly right that's
- 00:07:01why I structured this answer even right
- 00:07:03now when we're preparing sharing for
- 00:07:06interviews I say you need to say kind of
- 00:07:09almost the bare minimum but uh still be
- 00:07:12able to answer the follow-up questions
- 00:07:14because you don't want to go into a
- 00:07:17really really long spiel you know where
- 00:07:19you're sitting and talking and talking
- 00:07:21you're branching off things left and
- 00:07:22right and you might say things that they
- 00:07:25didn't even ask you and you might even
- 00:07:27have the possibility of messing up so
- 00:07:30like you said you know hey you know can
- 00:07:33you describe to me like what do you do
- 00:07:35like a little bit more about yourself
- 00:07:36and say yeah sure definitely like you
- 00:07:39know I'm responsible for all QA related
- 00:07:41processes right it's you know test case
- 00:07:44management it's where they're like
- 00:07:46documenting writing test cases
- 00:07:47automating test cases uh doing some
- 00:07:50exploratory testing which is manual
- 00:07:52testing
- 00:07:53um you know and you know automating
- 00:07:55stuff so when I'm able to kind of give
- 00:07:59that answer
- 00:08:01um as a follow-up as a to a follow-up
- 00:08:04question I think you know it's a we play
- 00:08:07game almost like question answer
- 00:08:08question answer and it's not necessarily
- 00:08:11a question and let me cover everything
- 00:08:13about me in one answer because then it
- 00:08:17just kind of becomes really messy and
- 00:08:20not very specific so exactly that's one
- 00:08:24of the biggest mistakes that our
- 00:08:25students do they talk too much this you
- 00:08:28know when people ask them hey can you
- 00:08:30tell me about a release process and the
- 00:08:32person starts talking about a release
- 00:08:34for the two words and then the person
- 00:08:36starts talking about agile and I'm like
- 00:08:38why are you talking about age I was just
- 00:08:40talking about a release
- 00:08:41clearly nothing else so that was that
- 00:08:44was an excellent answer
- 00:08:46um all right and then yeah uh can I can
- 00:08:49I add something to that
- 00:08:51um yeah like I would answer the same way
- 00:08:53as Anton I agree like too uh tell less
- 00:08:56uh and like follow answer follow-up
- 00:09:00question would be great I also like uh
- 00:09:03always kind of like try to build a
- 00:09:05connection between interview and
- 00:09:08interview interview guide so I usually
- 00:09:11tell like more details about my personal
- 00:09:13life about my hobbies you know and kind
- 00:09:15of like set the vibe uh for the
- 00:09:17interview so it's probably also a good
- 00:09:19idea you know what's actually
- 00:09:21interesting uh one of the uh job
- 00:09:24positions that I was interviewing for uh
- 00:09:27the first call that I had with the guy
- 00:09:29actually within the company uh after my
- 00:09:31initial call with the interview with the
- 00:09:33with the recruiter the guy tells me hey
- 00:09:35I don't want to hear anything about your
- 00:09:38professional career just tell me about
- 00:09:40you like who you are as an individual
- 00:09:42well I was like he's like I'll try to
- 00:09:45understand whether you're the right
- 00:09:47culture fit for a company and then we
- 00:09:50can move on to the next things so so it
- 00:09:54could be either or you know sometimes
- 00:09:55they want to you know have like a more
- 00:09:57technical stuff they want to sometimes
- 00:09:59have a combination of things like You're
- 00:10:01yeah like you're saying Georgie or you
- 00:10:03know like that guy asked me he's like I
- 00:10:05don't want to hear about nothing just
- 00:10:07tell me who you are as a person so
- 00:10:11as well yeah
- 00:10:14that's a good point like I from my
- 00:10:16experience like I've never had an
- 00:10:18interview where uh we haven't talked
- 00:10:20about anything unrelated to you like to
- 00:10:23the jobs you know so we're like we're
- 00:10:24usually oh okay what do you do like when
- 00:10:27you're not working what's your hobby you
- 00:10:28know it's like it feels like a
- 00:10:30relationship before they even hire you
- 00:10:32so it's like it's really good to mention
- 00:10:35exactly that makes sense that's awesome
- 00:10:37that's awesome I usually I usually tell
- 00:10:39all the students that you know whenever
- 00:10:41you are getting the answer tell them
- 00:10:43about yourself you only talk about your
- 00:10:45job duties about your past experience
- 00:10:47and then if they want they will ask you
- 00:10:49a question about a personal life that
- 00:10:51sounds like Georgia does give him a
- 00:10:53little bit a little bit of a hint of
- 00:10:54what he does in a spiritual time which
- 00:10:56actually is also a good point because
- 00:10:58you you're building connection with them
- 00:11:00uh and that's awesome yeah I think I'm
- 00:11:03gonna add that up to our course and tell
- 00:11:04everyone that after you give them a
- 00:11:07speech about spiel about your
- 00:11:08professional duties then you tell them
- 00:11:10and also during and also during my
- 00:11:12spiritual time I like to play soccer or
- 00:11:14do gymnastics
- 00:11:16yeah that's awesome all right let's move
- 00:11:19on that was a good one
- 00:11:21all right so yeah those are usually it's
- 00:11:23the first question telling by themselves
- 00:11:25and afterwards uh sometimes uh well
- 00:11:27usually they ask follow-up questions
- 00:11:29based on your answer and then the
- 00:11:34sometimes ask about the company itself
- 00:11:36like hey can you tell me a little bit
- 00:11:38more about the company can you tell me
- 00:11:40what what does exactly come what does
- 00:11:43what does your product look like and
- 00:11:45what what are they building
- 00:11:48does any one of you guys want to talk
- 00:11:50about that
- 00:11:53um I can try it oh go ahead okay yeah
- 00:11:57it's very specific though uh so yeah I
- 00:12:00would I would say that
- 00:12:03um I'll I basically can talk about my
- 00:12:04current company right is that what we
- 00:12:06want okay yeah so I would say yeah that
- 00:12:10um our company is called audit board uh
- 00:12:12and we're providing a software for uh
- 00:12:15risking compliance management system so
- 00:12:17and we have kind of nine products that
- 00:12:20we split up between like teams and I'm
- 00:12:22part of upside team and
- 00:12:25um that my duty is doing it like within
- 00:12:28this team is basically creating all the
- 00:12:30uh stories and tickets that are coming
- 00:12:32like my way before the release
- 00:12:34automating everything and uh keep up
- 00:12:37with the maintenance and like new tools
- 00:12:39observing like what what we're gonna go
- 00:12:41next
- 00:12:42awesome awesome yeah it sounds like
- 00:12:44something very specific to audit which
- 00:12:45most people will not know but from the
- 00:12:48interviewer perspective I will hear okay
- 00:12:50this guy knows what's up because he
- 00:12:52knows that he's talking about the
- 00:12:54different products he's talking about
- 00:12:55the team that he is he's in he's even
- 00:12:57started talking he's even started the
- 00:12:58conversation about his responsibilities
- 00:13:00which will be which will bring on the
- 00:13:03next uh conversation that we're going to
- 00:13:04have
- 00:13:06yeah definitely there's actually like I
- 00:13:09think about it in
- 00:13:11um you know in kind of two different
- 00:13:12ways how you could answer that question
- 00:13:15um if sometimes
- 00:13:17I would like to go maybe like that short
- 00:13:19and sweet saying hey you know here's my
- 00:13:21company like let's say Fortress
- 00:13:22Technologies and we specialize in
- 00:13:24providing uh management software you
- 00:13:27know for commercial and residential
- 00:13:30properties
- 00:13:31um so I think even answering just that
- 00:13:34kind of answers that initial question
- 00:13:36but you know you can always have that uh
- 00:13:40like a follow-up statement saying hey if
- 00:13:42you like to hear any additional details
- 00:13:45I would love to answer that because what
- 00:13:47I've actually noticed in one
- 00:13:50interviewing the students of codemified
- 00:13:52sometimes they tell them hey you know
- 00:13:55tell me about the company and then they
- 00:13:57start going into like micromanaging all
- 00:14:00the processes and listing all the things
- 00:14:01that they do and yeah it branches out
- 00:14:04again into you know two different things
- 00:14:06whereas could have been just like you
- 00:14:09know question answer really quickly so
- 00:14:12yeah yeah exactly that usually happens
- 00:14:14because people are nervous they and if
- 00:14:17if the interviewer is quiet if you give
- 00:14:20an answer and the person is just looking
- 00:14:23at you you're like okay I must have said
- 00:14:24something else and you start talking
- 00:14:26more and more and you're going into the
- 00:14:28rabbit hole as they say you ask here
- 00:14:31uh which makes sense so you pretty much
- 00:14:33have to become what do you answer you
- 00:14:34have to be confident uh with your answer
- 00:14:36and finish it on on a good word and
- 00:14:39possibly tell them okay and let me know
- 00:14:41if you have any follow-up questions or
- 00:14:43something like that
- 00:14:44yeah
- 00:14:46awesome all right uh well do you guys
- 00:14:48want to give us before I start with list
- 00:14:51of my questions that I've gathered from
- 00:14:52all the students we had so far do you
- 00:14:55want to throw any of the questions that
- 00:14:57you have recently had during your
- 00:14:58interviews
- 00:15:01um is it manual or automation what are
- 00:15:04we focusing on either or
- 00:15:06let's start with the manual because I
- 00:15:07think most of the people will be
- 00:15:08interested in the mail but we also can
- 00:15:10go into automation uh later on I see
- 00:15:14so I think like yeah okay okay I'll go
- 00:15:18so um I think there's a lot of like
- 00:15:21startups coming up and I think it is
- 00:15:24important to know that sometimes when
- 00:15:26you're being interviewed for a position
- 00:15:27you might be that first person who's
- 00:15:29interviewing who's been interviewed for
- 00:15:31that query position
- 00:15:32so I I haven't been asked that question
- 00:15:36myself but I have heard about people who
- 00:15:38have been asked this question and the
- 00:15:40question is like you know as a first QA
- 00:15:42what would you do right and you know
- 00:15:46I've heard some ridiculous answers like
- 00:15:48hey you know I'm gonna message everybody
- 00:15:50and say hi and like I'm listening
- 00:15:54and it's a very personal answer versus
- 00:15:58you can um you know tell them say hey
- 00:16:00I'm gonna learn the application I'm
- 00:16:02gonna go through the logic I'm gonna see
- 00:16:04you know what kind of documentation you
- 00:16:06guys have in place I'm gonna see if you
- 00:16:09have any test cases and you know I'm
- 00:16:11gonna go ahead and connect like with
- 00:16:13developers to prepare for for future
- 00:16:15regression and stuff like that so be
- 00:16:18able to kind of speak the language of
- 00:16:20how I'm gonna directly benefit
- 00:16:24um as a an employee towards like you
- 00:16:27know releasing the product and from the
- 00:16:30QA standpoint rather than having some um
- 00:16:33interpersonal skills uh answer you know
- 00:16:36soft skill stuff so I think that's kind
- 00:16:39of one of the questions that you should
- 00:16:40definitely pay attention to
- 00:16:42yeah yeah that makes sense and I can
- 00:16:44take this one I can answer it because
- 00:16:46I've done I've done it multiple times
- 00:16:47I've been working as the first kid in a
- 00:16:50company so that and also when I when I
- 00:16:53was working as the QA manager uh for the
- 00:16:55last couple of companies I also I can
- 00:16:57answer it from the perspective from the
- 00:17:00expectations of the management what do
- 00:17:02they what do they actually expect so
- 00:17:04first of all whenever you guys joining
- 00:17:06the company you will always you will
- 00:17:09always go through onboarding process if
- 00:17:12it exists in some startups it will not
- 00:17:15exist but I'm gonna tell you okay here's
- 00:17:17our application learn it or here's the
- 00:17:19documentation learn it so whenever you
- 00:17:20join it there's no boarding process at
- 00:17:22all you're the first one and for example
- 00:17:24one of my first companies had only four
- 00:17:26Engineers that was fifth one I believe I
- 00:17:28was like okay awesome I'll learn it
- 00:17:30myself not a problem at all first
- 00:17:32question what requirements do you have
- 00:17:34give me all the documentation give me
- 00:17:37all of the design tablets give me
- 00:17:39everything that you have so I could
- 00:17:41learn it based on that if and we'll
- 00:17:44we'll go from there if they say we have
- 00:17:46no documentation there are only tickets
- 00:17:48in Europe I'm going to fully dive into
- 00:17:50your number one and number two I'm going
- 00:17:52to have while I'm doing this I'm also
- 00:17:55going to have meetings with every single
- 00:17:57person from the team from the
- 00:17:58engineering team so I would learn things
- 00:18:00about the product from their perspective
- 00:18:02uh what was built what was built lady
- 00:18:05what was built lately what is getting
- 00:18:07built right now and how do they like the
- 00:18:10process because there might be something
- 00:18:12missed in the process so learn
- 00:18:14application that's number one you can
- 00:18:16learn in multiple ways that I've just
- 00:18:17described thing number two is start
- 00:18:20supporting the most critical part which
- 00:18:22is most cases release if it's a startup
- 00:18:24when I joined my first one it was so
- 00:18:26messy during that time so I've started
- 00:18:29helping the number one with the actual
- 00:18:31release I took it as the one of my
- 00:18:32responsibilities I was checking the code
- 00:18:34and pushing it to production but before
- 00:18:36that I have standardized it through
- 00:18:38through adding a list of number one test
- 00:18:41scenarios because we did not have a time
- 00:18:43for test cases so simply I would say uh
- 00:18:45test the login with this this that's the
- 00:18:48login of a positive test case you can
- 00:18:49log in test login but you cannot log
- 00:18:52into incorrect password pretty much use
- 00:18:54the titles for the test cases uh just to
- 00:18:57remember just to have a list of the test
- 00:18:59scenarios and then later on when I had
- 00:19:01time I did fill them out but first of
- 00:19:03all I had a huge list of things that we
- 00:19:05had to check uh that was number one and
- 00:19:07then number two is within within one
- 00:19:10week I've understood okay this is not
- 00:19:12very scalable we have to start
- 00:19:13automating this so the most critical
- 00:19:15list of the test cases had to be
- 00:19:17automated and they were automated by
- 00:19:19that time it wasn't very professional
- 00:19:20but it was done somehow it was runnable
- 00:19:24it will it helped me so much to get rid
- 00:19:26of them uh an hour of work every single
- 00:19:30day for the release process
- 00:19:32uh and after that uh documenting test
- 00:19:35cases and improving uh improving after
- 00:19:39about a month of watching what is
- 00:19:41happening within a company within a
- 00:19:42release process starting to uh
- 00:19:45negotiating with the team improvements
- 00:19:47because everyone will have a different
- 00:19:48video but you can all come to to
- 00:19:50collaborative decision of what needs to
- 00:19:52be improved and usually you ask the new
- 00:19:54person when you join a company you will
- 00:19:56have the best uh what do you call it the
- 00:19:59best Hive you will because everyone
- 00:20:01already got used to the fact that okay
- 00:20:03we are releasing in such a way and
- 00:20:05that's okay even if it's even if it's a
- 00:20:07shared list process you still get used
- 00:20:09to it like okay that's probably all
- 00:20:10right but a new person will always tell
- 00:20:12you that doesn't look right we could
- 00:20:14possibly improve that
- 00:20:17yeah that definitely makes sense what
- 00:20:20she said it's a lot more kind of
- 00:20:22elaborate than what I have mentioned
- 00:20:25um but I yeah I think that kind of if
- 00:20:28you give that answer specifically I
- 00:20:31think it would make make you look like
- 00:20:34you definitely know your stuff uh
- 00:20:35because you basically broke down uh you
- 00:20:39know various steps that you would take
- 00:20:41uh in in various parts whether it's
- 00:20:44um uh you know testing uh the
- 00:20:46application itself or learning the
- 00:20:48application so I think it's definitely a
- 00:20:50solid answer
- 00:20:52already yeah and and you've mentioned
- 00:20:54automation I think like uh Anton like is
- 00:20:57covering like manual part but if you're
- 00:20:59applying for automation like position
- 00:21:01they usually can ask you a question if
- 00:21:03you need to start automation from script
- 00:21:05from scratch what would you be your
- 00:21:06steps and processes so you wanna answer
- 00:21:09for this one also Sergey
- 00:21:12sure unless you guys or I I can try to
- 00:21:15yeah what what was my answers previously
- 00:21:18uh it's like pretty short answer like
- 00:21:21always kind of like for my understanding
- 00:21:24so basically the first answer would be
- 00:21:26it's like how many resources do we have
- 00:21:28like to uh start like building
- 00:21:31automation so we need to come up with
- 00:21:33kind of like uh solution okay whether we
- 00:21:36need to use this tool how much money we
- 00:21:38have for for example for awes paying for
- 00:21:40AWS or like any other CI tools secondly
- 00:21:44it's like time and wise uh like how
- 00:21:46short term it should be automated then
- 00:21:48we'll kind of and decide what's the
- 00:21:50quickest framework we can use right to
- 00:21:52automate such a tests and third I guess
- 00:21:55is just like diving into the requirement
- 00:21:58and like understand what we have already
- 00:22:00automated maybe it's like some other
- 00:22:01like Frameworks already been used and we
- 00:22:03need to migrate them and Etc
- 00:22:06so that's my kind of like short answer
- 00:22:08yeah yeah that's a good answer and based
- 00:22:10on that answer I could ask follow-up
- 00:22:12questions such as and actually I was
- 00:22:14asked the question during my second job
- 00:22:18of for interview I mean before I got my
- 00:22:20second job offer there was the question
- 00:22:22that I get asked uh if our if our stack
- 00:22:27that we use I mean if the language that
- 00:22:29we use for the website is for example
- 00:22:31python can you use can you does it
- 00:22:35matter which language do you use in
- 00:22:37writing your automation framework
- 00:22:40uh I think like the the easiest
- 00:22:43languages would be JavaScript to
- 00:22:44automate a front-end so if they don't
- 00:22:47mind like to use like different language
- 00:22:48I would like proceed with the JavaScript
- 00:22:51and the most familiar one that you know
- 00:22:52instead of like once again it's a timing
- 00:22:56question so they probably hiring you to
- 00:22:58start automating from day one and uh
- 00:23:01yeah you need to go with the tools that
- 00:23:03you're already aware of and you know
- 00:23:04yeah yeah yeah yeah definitely that's
- 00:23:06right that's right uh way to do that but
- 00:23:09the question would be uh does it matter
- 00:23:11which language we use does it have to be
- 00:23:13the same as it's used for the website or
- 00:23:15can we can it be different
- 00:23:17uh no it can be different I would say
- 00:23:20like I went through the same way and I
- 00:23:22got a job seven years ago
- 00:23:25yeah some people some people will say
- 00:23:28that
- 00:23:29it should preferably be the same
- 00:23:31language as developers use because they
- 00:23:34will be able to help you or they will be
- 00:23:36able to also write automation tests but
- 00:23:39usually that's not the case usually
- 00:23:40developers never write your automation
- 00:23:43tests so it is qa's responsibility with
- 00:23:46your right which language to use to
- 00:23:48write your tests on
- 00:23:50that's totally true in the case of uh
- 00:23:54because I'm actually not sure about this
- 00:23:56one uh in the case of when you have a
- 00:23:58website that's built on python uh do
- 00:24:01they actually write unit tests in python
- 00:24:03as well yep yeah
- 00:24:07yeah so if you want to if you want your
- 00:24:08integration test or end-to-end test to
- 00:24:11use the same language as unit tests for
- 00:24:14the reason that developers write it
- 00:24:16maybe developers one day will switch to
- 00:24:17this which happens it doesn't happen in
- 00:24:2099.99 of the cases then you could
- 00:24:24possibly offer that but as Georgia said
- 00:24:26usually you they hire you they want you
- 00:24:28to start writing tasks quickly and if
- 00:24:30you are very familiar with the
- 00:24:32JavaScript you start using JavaScript if
- 00:24:34you're if you prefer to do it in a
- 00:24:36python YouTube python so in I agree with
- 00:24:39Georgie my opinion it does really make
- 00:24:41any difference and I got my second job
- 00:24:44when I answered it this way but it's
- 00:24:47it's I would say it's a personal
- 00:24:48preference if you want to do uses that
- 00:24:50language or the other language
- 00:24:54yeah all right let's move on to your
- 00:24:55next question
- 00:24:57I think Georgia had this one uh Anton
- 00:24:59you want to go the next one or should I
- 00:25:00pull one for my license uh yeah I I
- 00:25:03there's another question that I was
- 00:25:04asked um at the previous company that I
- 00:25:06was getting interviewed that which was
- 00:25:08age of learning and the question was
- 00:25:10like how good are you at automation so
- 00:25:14where basically I was joining the
- 00:25:16company or I was joining the department
- 00:25:20um where I would be the only QA because
- 00:25:22it's a big 600 company and they had a
- 00:25:25separate manual team
- 00:25:27um I think of like 50 people or so and I
- 00:25:30would be like the only automation
- 00:25:31engineer in this particular uh part of
- 00:25:34the application so I got asked that
- 00:25:36question and um I think this question
- 00:25:40definitely startled me but I think it
- 00:25:42could start everybody because like how
- 00:25:44good are you at something like am I
- 00:25:47gonna totally like boast about myself
- 00:25:49where I'm gonna downplay it so I I think
- 00:25:53my my answer was something like hey you
- 00:25:55know I was able to build before a like a
- 00:25:58simple framework from scratch you know
- 00:26:00writing some UI test case a UI animation
- 00:26:04test cases using you know Webdriver IO
- 00:26:06together with mocha and China libraries
- 00:26:08and you know I utilize like let's say
- 00:26:11page objects and stuff like that so I
- 00:26:13didn't give him saying okay I am good or
- 00:26:16I'm really good or I'm like terrible but
- 00:26:19rather I show you like what I've done
- 00:26:22and I'll let him judge based on that
- 00:26:24because my perspective of being good
- 00:26:26might be totally different would be your
- 00:26:29surgery perspective or your perspective
- 00:26:31of what is good like you know to some
- 00:26:33people saying oh I've used page object
- 00:26:35model it would be like you know and some
- 00:26:38people would be like yeah I just
- 00:26:39couldn't have a model you know so you
- 00:26:41never like I feel like you should never
- 00:26:43say like oh I'm good or I'm bad but
- 00:26:46rather State what you have done and let
- 00:26:49them be the judge whether you're good or
- 00:26:50bad so yeah yeah definitely and whenever
- 00:26:54this they ask this question they they
- 00:26:56actually we want to hear a couple of
- 00:26:58things number one they want to see your
- 00:26:59character they want to number two they
- 00:27:01want to see how humble you are
- 00:27:04um and then number three they do want to
- 00:27:06know what do you really consider
- 00:27:09um being good or not and if you if you
- 00:27:11would answer them that way that you did
- 00:27:13that you know what can the word how the
- 00:27:18word good can have a different meaning
- 00:27:19for everyone so let me tell you what I
- 00:27:22really think uh what I've done and you
- 00:27:24will judge if it's good or it's not good
- 00:27:27in your opinion yeah that's a really
- 00:27:29good answer but I would always just make
- 00:27:30fun of it I would say I'm as good as a
- 00:27:33two hours old Pizza I can get something
- 00:27:36like that just so everyone would laugh
- 00:27:38and then it would start a conversation
- 00:27:40afterwards
- 00:27:41yeah plastic surgery sensor yeah so
- 00:27:44Anton like answer is like very
- 00:27:46conservative and professional but this
- 00:27:48is tricky question and usually like if
- 00:27:50you joke out of it that's like good yeah
- 00:27:52I think like I asked this I've been
- 00:27:54asked this question once and I said oh
- 00:27:56I'm very good that you've never met this
- 00:27:58person before so and they were laughing
- 00:28:00at it
- 00:28:02yeah and also when you answer it this
- 00:28:04way you kind of show them your once
- 00:28:07again you show them what they want to
- 00:28:08see you show them your character you
- 00:28:09show them your personality and the fact
- 00:28:11that you're a good team player you will
- 00:28:12make fun of the things that uh that in
- 00:28:16most cases will be considerable fun
- 00:28:18yeah
- 00:28:20all righty let's move on to your next
- 00:28:22one Georgie you want to take the next

- 00:28:31animation
- 00:28:32question but this is a very basic
- 00:28:35automation uh key automation engineer
- 00:28:37asked that question what automation
- 00:28:39stack do you use so the word stack might
- 00:28:42not sound familiar to some of the people
- 00:28:44who came out from the boot camps uh
- 00:28:46because it's just something specific so
- 00:28:48they could also ask hey can you tell me
- 00:28:50about what automation tools do you use
- 00:28:53uh but they or what
- 00:28:56uh what I would call it Frameworks and
- 00:28:59languages do you guys here for
- 00:29:00automation they could ask that way but
- 00:29:02they actually ask what's tag you use by
- 00:29:05that they mean every single tool that is
- 00:29:07here for the Automation and also if they
- 00:29:10ask what stack do you use they could
- 00:29:12also mean what type of the database what
- 00:29:14is the what is used for the backend what
- 00:29:16Frameworks where languages what
- 00:29:18Frameworks and languages are used for
- 00:29:19the front end and then also for
- 00:29:22automation so when they ask you what
- 00:29:24stack do you use I just double check
- 00:29:26with them hey are you talking about
- 00:29:27automation testing or you're talking
- 00:29:29about if uh false the actual stack of
- 00:29:32the website that or application we're
- 00:29:34working with
- 00:29:35um
- 00:29:37are you can I think break it down also
- 00:29:40if we're just saying are you talking
- 00:29:41about like
- 00:29:42um stack for UI automation or API
- 00:29:44automation because those are different
- 00:29:46too it will definitely depend on the
- 00:29:48position that you're applying to but it
- 00:29:50never hurts to kind of clarify because I
- 00:29:53A lot of times they go based off of what
- 00:29:55you have in your resume so you know that
- 00:29:58they'll look and say okay this guy's
- 00:29:59been using Webdriver IO to get it with
- 00:30:01mocha and chai yeah but is there
- 00:30:03anything additional to that right yeah
- 00:30:06so yeah it never hurts to clarify it
- 00:30:09yeah yeah so uh first thing you clarify
- 00:30:12then you share them and in let's say in
- 00:30:15my case that would be so for the UI
- 00:30:18automation I for example for example I
- 00:30:20use Webdriver IO Maca and chai libraries
- 00:30:24as well for the API automation I use
- 00:30:28access which is node.js based as well as
- 00:30:30web driver i o is and for the
- 00:30:34application if you want to learn about
- 00:30:35that for the database we use postgres
- 00:30:37for the back end we use express.js for
- 00:30:40the front end we use react and that'll
- 00:30:43be pretty much it and also we're using
- 00:30:45AWS to host our server on but this is
- 00:30:48kind of the very technical details that
- 00:30:49most of the people on the junior level
- 00:30:53or mid-level will not likely know
- 00:30:55especially about where is the website
- 00:30:57hosted is there a digital Ocean or AWS
- 00:30:59or anything like that that's not
- 00:31:00necessary answer but the more you know
- 00:31:04the the more deeper knowledge you show
- 00:31:07them you show them how experienced you
- 00:31:09are but don't be afraid to answer in a
- 00:31:10way that you know because they don't ask
- 00:31:12you for anything else
- 00:31:14yeah very strong
- 00:31:16alrighty

- 00:31:21um yeah it's not the technical one and
- 00:31:24this question you will hear like during
- 00:31:27every interview I believe and the
- 00:31:29question is what are the challenges you
- 00:31:31faced in in the last company uh do yeah
- 00:31:35Anton do you agree with me I feel like
- 00:31:37this question is pretty common yeah
- 00:31:39definitely even uh during my last round
- 00:31:42of interview uh it was phrased a little
- 00:31:44bit different
- 00:31:45um basically when I was interviewing in
- 00:31:47front of the panel I was asked hey
- 00:31:50um have you ever had any conflict with
- 00:31:53some people with people that you're
- 00:31:55working with or conflict in the
- 00:31:57workplace so I think that also kind of
- 00:32:00can be put in a similar bucket as like
- 00:32:02challenges right
- 00:32:05um and um to that question I answer I
- 00:32:08say well honestly to be like I'm a very
- 00:32:10personable person I typically get a get
- 00:32:12along with everybody
- 00:32:14um you know we I did have certain
- 00:32:16disagreements with you know so and so
- 00:32:19but we were able to kind of work through
- 00:32:21those out and maybe that disagreement
- 00:32:23was you know which assertion Library are
- 00:32:27we going to use right or which test
- 00:32:28Runner we're going to use and why is
- 00:32:30like axios less uh well less good than I
- 00:32:36don't think that's proper language but
- 00:32:37why is axios not as good as super tests
- 00:32:40or something like that so maybe you can
- 00:32:42give them a not necessarily a big
- 00:32:45conflict that you had or a huge
- 00:32:48challenge but at least you can kind of
- 00:32:50give them something that you can easily
- 00:32:53explain and it's easily understood
- 00:32:54because I feel like if you were to go
- 00:32:56too deep into the the some challenge
- 00:32:58where you're trying to solve they might
- 00:33:01not even understand what you're talking
- 00:33:02about so I think it's always easier to
- 00:33:05go simpler way and yeah going back to
- 00:33:08the same point always be straightforward
- 00:33:11don't give them do not volunteer too
- 00:33:14much uh do not volunteer any information
- 00:33:16as my lawyer told me before the
- 00:33:18interview
- 00:33:23I'm sorry yeah I just want to like kind
- 00:33:26of
- 00:33:27um answer this question uh the
- 00:33:30challenges related to my last company I
- 00:33:32always like ask them the following
- 00:33:33question uh what are the challenges are
- 00:33:36you talking about exactly is it
- 00:33:37technical challenges is it like uh maybe
- 00:33:41challenges with the release or a DLC
- 00:33:43process or something like that so they
- 00:33:45usually pick one one of those three and
- 00:33:47then you can answer like this question
- 00:33:49yeah it will be much easier yeah for
- 00:33:52sure that's what I was going to say that
- 00:33:53was my second point that you can okay
- 00:33:55yeah yeah same thing that uh I would
- 00:33:59double check you're talking about the
- 00:34:00technical challenges so we're talking
- 00:34:01about the uh conflicts at the workplace
- 00:34:04uh before answer it yeah but otherwise I
- 00:34:07would answer the same way
- 00:34:09right right and then like yeah I don't
- 00:34:12know you can come up with any any kind
- 00:34:14of like Technical Solutions right you
- 00:34:16say okay our I don't know like I have
- 00:34:19usually like blockers with I don't know
- 00:34:21pushing to GitHub because we have like a
- 00:34:23bunch of conflicts right or something
- 00:34:24like that uh
- 00:34:26throughout the course you will probably
- 00:34:28like uh come up with some ideas but
- 00:34:30that's usually a good idea just to talk
- 00:34:33to the interviewer and like ask
- 00:34:35follow-up questions don't be kind of shy
- 00:34:37and yeah yeah exactly and during the
- 00:34:40course usually uh we teach we teach
- 00:34:42different things every group gets
- 00:34:44different things but one of the things
- 00:34:45that right a previous group group learn
- 00:34:47is how to integrate how to automate OTP
- 00:34:51uh which pretty much your phone number
- 00:34:54log log in with the phone number how do
- 00:34:56you uh how do you automate that so
- 00:34:58people have learned how to do that and
- 00:35:00during the interview they were able to
- 00:35:01explain oh yeah the most challenging
- 00:35:02thing was OTP uh automation uh because
- 00:35:06because of this this and that and I've
- 00:35:08used this this and those tools in order
- 00:35:11to get that automated it took me a
- 00:35:12couple of days but I enjoyed it a lot
- 00:35:14and then pretty much you tell people
- 00:35:16that I had a challenges I've sold them
- 00:35:19and I'm looking for more I like that and
- 00:35:21that's the best standard you can answer
- 00:35:22you can give unless you're going for uh
- 00:35:26for a great environment company that
- 00:35:28doesn't want you to grow which will not
- 00:35:30uh which you will not meet very likely
- 00:35:33and very often
- 00:35:36yeah all right let's go through some
- 00:35:39quick questions because we're already
- 00:35:40past half an hour and I feel like people
- 00:35:42are getting bored so let me I think
- 00:35:45Georgie had a question we had some solid
- 00:35:47information for them nobody's gonna get

- 00:36:03question for the automation position
- 00:36:05when you're talking about it node.js or
- 00:36:07JavaScript is what is the difference
- 00:36:09between VAR let and const I literally
- 00:36:12asked my students during every lesson uh
- 00:36:15doing every webinar the question because
- 00:36:17I want every single person to know the
- 00:36:20difference uh because if you're if
- 00:36:22you're talking about a language that
- 00:36:24you've learned you should know the
- 00:36:25basics and these are actual Basics that
- 00:36:28you should remember by heart
- 00:36:30Mexico
- 00:36:35I can go I mean uh if you if when you if
- 00:36:38you have somebody asking that question
- 00:36:40I'd be like well okay so let's say bar
- 00:36:43right it can be really clear reassigned
- 00:36:45you know like could be uh re-eclared uh
- 00:36:49and cannot be reassigned and
- 00:36:51um you know cons cannot be reassigned or
- 00:36:53redeclared and then you know I typically
- 00:36:56never get any sort of follow-up after
- 00:36:58that yeah yeah they just know that you
- 00:37:02know the difference between these three
- 00:37:03yeah they leave it at that they're like
- 00:37:05okay you know it's it's I don't think
- 00:37:08ever anybody asked me about like but is
- 00:37:11it Muto is const mutable or stuff like
- 00:37:13that I think horoscope yeah yeah I think
- 00:37:16it's it's like really not I mean not a
- 00:37:18high level but I think just nobody even
- 00:37:20cares about that yeah yeah yeah
- 00:37:22definitely that's that's the good Basics
- 00:37:24as you can say a high level that in most
- 00:37:26cases it will be way enough for you to
- 00:37:28say hey I'm filming with the basics of
- 00:37:30of jazz and here they are definitely
- 00:37:34yeah awesome all right let's move on to
- 00:37:37the next one you guys want to take it
- 00:37:40um yeah I mean if we if we want to like
- 00:37:42talk about something uh let's say uh
- 00:37:45manual stuff you know some people get
- 00:37:48confused about
- 00:37:51um
- 00:37:52test cases and let's say bug reports I
- 00:37:56don't know why like I think even myself
- 00:37:57at some point I got confused about like
- 00:38:00what's this case and the bug report but
- 00:38:02that was like very very early on you
- 00:38:04know in the process when I was initially
- 00:38:06applying to companies and interviewing
- 00:38:08uh but sometimes you do get asked the
- 00:38:10question like what is a uh you know
- 00:38:13difference between a good test case and
- 00:38:17a bad test case right
- 00:38:19um and you can say well the good test
- 00:38:21case has you know easily reproducible
- 00:38:24steps right uh where you know you have
- 00:38:27essentially
- 00:38:29um a an action and a reaction in the
- 00:38:32sense that you know here's the action
- 00:38:33that you take and here's where you're
- 00:38:35supposed to expect right a bad test case
- 00:38:37is something that not easily followed
- 00:38:39right if I was to give it to a random
- 00:38:41person can this person if this person
- 00:38:43cannot reproduce all the steps 100 that
- 00:38:46means that the test case is poorly
- 00:38:48written and I think where the confusion
- 00:38:51between the bug group or it and and the
- 00:38:53test case comes is in the steps to
- 00:38:55reproduce right so
- 00:38:58and I I think it's important to
- 00:39:00differentiate that the bug report just
- 00:39:03focuses on reproducing the steps for a
- 00:39:06bug versus test case reproduces the
- 00:39:08steps you know for testing particular
- 00:39:10functionality and you know how that
- 00:39:12works
- 00:39:14um and just to kind of balance into like
- 00:39:16the good or bad bug report right it's
- 00:39:19kind of also similar so they would say
- 00:39:22Hey you know can you tell me how you
- 00:39:24would write a bug report right and I say
- 00:39:27well typically
- 00:39:29typically I would I write the title
- 00:39:31that's very descriptive but yeah concise
- 00:39:33you know say you know I'll describe what
- 00:39:36happened where it happened and under
- 00:39:38which circumstance it happened right so
- 00:39:40let's say you know the you know like a
- 00:39:44some particular menu button doesn't work
- 00:39:46on on the home screen right that's you
- 00:39:50know that's pretty descriptive but yet
- 00:39:51super short you you give them saying hey
- 00:39:53this button doesn't work on this screen
- 00:39:55when it's clicked right or something
- 00:39:57like that so and then in in in the short
- 00:40:01description if it's necessary if it's
- 00:40:03not understood by the title then you can
- 00:40:05write this short you know sweet
- 00:40:07description add the steps to reproduce
- 00:40:11um the bug as well as maybe attaching
- 00:40:13some visual sometimes I actually attach
- 00:40:15gifs
- 00:40:17um that are like six seven seconds long
- 00:40:19um sometimes I attach like screenshot
- 00:40:21with some arrows pointing to different
- 00:40:23places
- 00:40:24sometimes if it's a it has like a
- 00:40:28variety of steps that you know that
- 00:40:30needs to be recorded on video that's
- 00:40:31what I do I just attach a small clip
- 00:40:33that's you know 15-20 seconds so I think
- 00:40:36though that's kind of like really
- 00:40:38valuable especially if you're going for
- 00:40:40positions that are manual and even 50
- 00:40:44and 50 you know 50 manual 50 automation
- 00:40:49so that's true that's true yeah and I
- 00:40:52think that's a good one
- 00:40:54yeah I think uh We've we've gave quite a
- 00:40:58few questions throughout the different
- 00:41:00levels and different topics so let's see
- 00:41:04how do people digest it and whenever you
- 00:41:06guys watch this video please leave a
- 00:41:08comment below and tell us uh what what
- 00:41:10do you mostly want to hear about manual
- 00:41:13automation senior level junior level
- 00:41:15mid-level uh so we would so we would see
- 00:41:18how how you guys liked it and what if
- 00:41:20should we record next because I feel
- 00:41:21like we can go forever with you guys we
- 00:41:24can literally keep discussing this for
- 00:41:26like two three hours but I don't think
- 00:41:28people will uh will be watching for that
- 00:41:31long at least that's what I think but

- 00:41:56yeah making a short sweet videos is
- 00:41:58better
- 00:42:00um than making one really long one
- 00:42:01because yeah it kind of consumes you I
- 00:42:04feel like with a lot more information
- 00:42:06especially if you if it's so new to you
- 00:42:08yeah that's true that's true all right
