- 00:00:03going to talk a little bit more about
- 00:00:05ADHD people have been asking me a lot to
- 00:00:07do another video or more videos about it
- 00:00:12and why not so that's what this video is
- 00:00:14going to be about
- 00:00:17[Music]
- 00:00:24today and just for General updates for
- 00:00:27the channel because I've been really
- 00:00:29busy lately and have not not been
- 00:00:30uploading very much uh I have new
- 00:00:32equipment I got new audio equipment I
- 00:00:35have a tablet over here for
- 00:00:37instruction and basically when I do more
- 00:00:40tutorials in teaching different things
- 00:00:43I'm a very visual person I think it's
- 00:00:45probably stems from the ADHD as well I
- 00:00:48need to see things in front of me so I
- 00:00:49don't have to hold Concepts in my head
- 00:00:51sometimes uh so I have this tablet to
- 00:00:53help drawing and diagramming things live
- 00:00:57uh so I'll be using that likely more in
- 00:00:59the future to make instruction a little
- 00:01:01bit easier for people like me also
- 00:01:03changing the camera angle so it's like
- 00:01:05down lower so you can like see me like
- 00:01:08this because now I don't have to like
- 00:01:09sit up and hurt my back the whole time
- 00:01:13so this is actually a comfier position
- 00:01:15for me and uh yeah I'll just be
- 00:01:17slouching at the desk so let's get into
- 00:01:20the content the best ways to support the

- 00:02:00so that's what I'll be fidgeting with
- 00:02:02today uh I have several topics I wanted
- 00:02:05to talk about today and I've been
- 00:02:06collecting some of these just to add to
- 00:02:09another big video just because I don't
- 00:02:11want to make a ton of tiny videos um I
- 00:02:14know that sometimes the big videos are
- 00:02:16offputting to some but I haven't had too
- 00:02:18many complaints maybe two or three about
- 00:02:21the video length for these so if you're
- 00:02:24ADHD and you're watching this be like me
- 00:02:27put it on two to 2 and 1/ half times
- 00:02:29speed
- 00:02:31and utilize the time stamps if you want
- 00:02:33and you're probably going to be in the
- 00:02:35comments section reading comments while
- 00:02:37you listen to me talk anyways
- 00:02:38potentially on 2x speed so I think
- 00:02:42you'll all be
- 00:02:43fine but let's dive into the topics I
- 00:02:46have for today having ADHD makes it so
- 00:02:50that it's very hard to function
- 00:02:53obviously in talking with many other
- 00:02:55people I
- 00:02:56have come to the realization that even
- 00:02:59if unconsciously people with ADHD will
- 00:03:02set up their own processes and systems
- 00:03:06and quote unquote weird ways of doing
- 00:03:09things to keep them organized and
- 00:03:12somewhat
- 00:03:14productive and depending on what that
- 00:03:16means to whoever we're concerned about
- 00:03:19appearing productive to what this looks
- 00:03:22like
- 00:03:23is constant mental effort to set up
- 00:03:28systems and do things in specific ways
- 00:03:31that work for us as weird as they may be
- 00:03:34to
- 00:03:35actually
- 00:03:36function and what this actually presents
- 00:03:39as and like some solid examples of how
- 00:03:41like this has been for me is if I'm like
- 00:03:45at a friend's house or something and you
- 00:03:47know I'm getting a Leo P of leftover
- 00:03:50food and I'm going to take that home but
- 00:03:52it needs to stay in the fridge uh
- 00:03:54because it's I'm going to be there for a
- 00:03:55few hours and don't want the food to go
- 00:03:57bad on me I will literally take my car
- 00:04:00keys put them in the fridge on the food
- 00:04:05and I can't leave unless I have the keys
- 00:04:08where are the keys with the thing that I
- 00:04:10need to remember to take this is always
- 00:04:13worked for me um I've never forgotten my
- 00:04:16keys because another thing I stick to
- 00:04:19and maybe this is a different core
- 00:04:22morbidity I don't know anything OCD I
- 00:04:25don't know anything of that so but maybe
- 00:04:29it's just that or it is the ADHD but I
- 00:04:32will rigidly do things where I will
- 00:04:35always put my
- 00:04:36keys in specific places there's only
- 00:04:39three places my keys will ever be they
- 00:04:43will be in my pocket they will be in the
- 00:04:47valet tray when I enter into my house
- 00:04:49which is where all the EDC um everyday
- 00:04:52carry pocket things stuff goes or
- 00:04:56they'll be in somebody's fridge No Lie
- 00:04:59because I only then have to remember
- 00:05:02that my keys can only be in a few
- 00:05:05certain places there's never any
- 00:05:07ambiguity there's never any Panic
- 00:05:10there's never any stress or anxiety
- 00:05:12around where are my keys because I will
- 00:05:14only ever put them into a couple
- 00:05:16locations they can only ever be there
- 00:05:19and this isn't obviously foolproof what
- 00:05:21if like my partner or somebody else like
- 00:05:23takes my keys from there to go do
- 00:05:26something without telling me well now I
- 00:05:28don't know and now this might cause
- 00:05:30something but by and large the majority
- 00:05:32of times where I need my keys I will
- 00:05:35know where they are and I don't need to
- 00:05:37go and do any like search and hunt and
- 00:05:40you know I need to go hunt for these
- 00:05:41things an hour later I got distracted
- 00:05:43because I found you know a picture I
- 00:05:45drew when I was a child and that turned
- 00:05:46into me sorting all of these photo
- 00:05:48albums over here no it it never leads to
- 00:05:50any of that it's because they're always
- 00:05:52in a certain location and I've seen some
- 00:05:55ADHD Tik Tok is actually really really
- 00:05:58awesome some some of the stuff is like
- 00:06:01but by and large a lot of it is really
- 00:06:04useful and I found some good tips on
- 00:06:06there um namely don't put it down put it
- 00:06:10away that's that's basically what I've
- 00:06:13lived by and what I always laugh about
- 00:06:14is I whenever I find the best advice for
- 00:06:17me when I find this great advice turns
- 00:06:19out I've already been living my life
- 00:06:21like that and I just didn't have words
- 00:06:23for it and just oh that's a great advice
- 00:06:26I've been doing that for a few years
- 00:06:28this is an example of that I don't put
- 00:06:30things down I put them away if I I'm
- 00:06:32handling something I don't just put it
- 00:06:35there and then walk away from it I will
- 00:06:37always expend the extra effort to go and
- 00:06:39put it in its location everything has a
- 00:06:41place and a place for everything and by
- 00:06:44doing that I never ever ever lose
- 00:06:48anything I will always know where things
- 00:06:50are and like 98% of the time I find
- 00:06:54exactly what I'm looking for where I
- 00:06:56expect to find it so this is a very
- 00:06:58effective strategy that I've had is take
- 00:07:01what your what you have put it away
- 00:07:04don't put it down put it away have a
- 00:07:05place for everything and rigidly stick
- 00:07:08to it my keys will only ever be you know
- 00:07:11the way I expect and live my life my
- 00:07:13keys will only ever be in my pocket in
- 00:07:15the valley tray or in the
- 00:07:19fridge one downside to this uh effective
- 00:07:22coping mechanism you know it's effective
- 00:07:24for me anyways is uh the lack of what
- 00:07:28would you say support or accommodation
- 00:07:30from others others might not want your
- 00:07:33keys in their fridge just to give a
- 00:07:35simplistic example relevant but don't
- 00:07:39people do not understand that I have to
- 00:07:41do things this way to have the same
- 00:07:44outcome how we arrive at that outcome is
- 00:07:46different for me and this neurotypical
- 00:07:49person because I have to accommodate
- 00:07:52certain facets of how I process and deal
- 00:07:53with information how I experience the
- 00:07:55external world and how my brain does not
- 00:07:57necessarily function and process the
- 00:07:59same as a gross majority of the
- 00:08:02population and this manifests in these
- 00:08:05weird quirky workarounds where I have to
- 00:08:08hack my life and uh try and figure out
- 00:08:11ways to optimize how I best function in
- 00:08:14a society that does not function or
- 00:08:16usually effectively accommodate people
- 00:08:19like me who process things like me so
- 00:08:22the lack of accommodation in general
- 00:08:24life and people who do not understand
- 00:08:27about this know about this and don't
- 00:08:29know how to accommodate or get along
- 00:08:31with people who do have ADHD
- 00:08:35is it's it sucks it's it's very hard and
- 00:08:39constantly having to think of these
- 00:08:40systems and operate this way can be a
- 00:08:43massive drain on your energy and your
- 00:08:45executive dysfunction because at the end
- 00:08:48of the day you're still having to
- 00:08:50process a lot of extra steps and do
- 00:08:52things even if it's in a way that is
- 00:08:54better for you it's still a lot to deal
- 00:08:58with and handle constantly it's just a
- 00:09:00constant mental churn so throughout the
- 00:09:02video I'm going to talk about different
- 00:09:04strategies and tools and things that I
- 00:09:06use to just be a little bit more on top
- 00:09:10of my life and
- 00:09:12have have my life together uh I use and
- 00:09:16I've talked a lot about how I use a
- 00:09:18calendar and a task manager to basically
- 00:09:21run my life I externalize everything in
- 00:09:24software I don't hold things in my head
- 00:09:26I don't forget things and this is this
- 00:09:28is the important thing I don't lose
- 00:09:30anything I don't lose my stuff because
- 00:09:34put it away don't put it down put it
- 00:09:36away I always have a place for it it
- 00:09:38always goes there okay so object
- 00:09:41permanence I expect it to always be
- 00:09:43there even if I can't see it I know
- 00:09:45exactly where they are because they're
- 00:09:46only ever in the same places now how I
- 00:09:49handle like interacting with other
- 00:09:50people and my general maintenance of my
- 00:09:53life is I don't have to remember all the
- 00:09:55things I have to do in a day because
- 00:09:57that's a large burden of mental process
- 00:09:59it's a lot of mental Ram to take up with
- 00:10:03just general management of life so that
- 00:10:05would take up all the energy and space
- 00:10:07that I would need to do anything more in
- 00:10:10my day than just general maintenance so
- 00:10:12if I want to do something with my day I
- 00:10:14can't just be processing all the crap I
- 00:10:17have to do I need to actually have that
- 00:10:19space so I can just refer to my task
- 00:10:21manager for like what are the chores I'm
- 00:10:24doing today what are the the tasks and I
- 00:10:27can have times on them so I can say okay
- 00:10:29in my itinerary these two tasks are
- 00:10:31coming up next they're at the same time
- 00:10:33I'll do the easier one ooh Snowball
- 00:10:35Effect now let's do the harder one or
- 00:10:37vice versa start off the hard thing get
- 00:10:39out of the way and now it's a downward
- 00:10:40slope either way however I feel in the
- 00:10:43day is task management and calendars and
- 00:10:46a quick view of what that looks
- 00:10:48like uh like I have my this script for
- 00:10:51this video right here in my task manager
- 00:10:53because again tasks I can just check
- 00:10:56them off and somewhat keep to a script I
- 00:10:58don't like keeping the scripts I kind of
- 00:11:00just like to ramble um which is why I
- 00:11:03want to do more live streaming but like
- 00:11:05I also have my calendar and this is
- 00:11:08basically what I live off of if I don't
- 00:11:10have it on my calendar it does not exist
- 00:11:12to me if I did not get informed of an
- 00:11:15appointment that I need to make and I
- 00:11:17even have like gotten my family on this
- 00:11:19so they tell me you know we're doing
- 00:11:21this is it on your calendar can you
- 00:11:22check your calendar because I've told
- 00:11:25them if it's not on my calendar it does
- 00:11:26not exist to me and I am not doing it it
- 00:11:29has to be on my calendar so if you want
- 00:11:30me somewhere if you want me to do
- 00:11:32something you have to get on my calendar
- 00:11:34and at this point that might seem like a
- 00:11:38little bit extra to do to family members
- 00:11:40and other people but I like to look at
- 00:11:42it like this I am always willing to help
- 00:11:45my family to go out above and beyond to
- 00:11:47you know contribute and be a good family
- 00:11:50member but at the same time I have
- 00:11:52things that I need accommodations for I
- 00:11:54need to be accommodated on how I fit
- 00:11:57things in my life because maybe I have
- 00:11:58very few tasks on a day and it would be
- 00:12:00a great day to film a video because I
- 00:12:04even struggle just to maintain this
- 00:12:06YouTube channel amongst my daily life
- 00:12:08because I take on too much work
- 00:12:10full-time school full-time YouTube other
- 00:12:12business General interests research
- 00:12:14whatever um I take on too much or I'm
- 00:12:18just really busy all the time and so oh
- 00:12:20finally a day where I can breathe and I
- 00:12:22have a big space in my schedule which
- 00:12:24would give me enough breathing room to
- 00:12:26build up the executive function to take
- 00:12:29g a large task that normally I would not
- 00:12:31have the bandwidth for on any normal day
- 00:12:34and then my family calls me hey we need
- 00:12:36something today that might you know
- 00:12:38trigger irrational anger just because
- 00:12:41like I had my perfect day and then this
- 00:12:43came in and it ruined my schedule and
- 00:12:45they took out my time so what I do first
- 00:12:48of all I don't usually answer phone
- 00:12:50calls I hate unexpected phone calls so I
- 00:12:53usually let everything go to voicemail
- 00:12:54and I'll process it on my own time um
- 00:12:56I've also told my family that usually if
- 00:12:58you want it to really get a quick
- 00:12:59response to me um text messages usually
- 00:13:03that's because one I will just respond
- 00:13:05quickly to a text message I might not
- 00:13:06have the time to do a call especially if
- 00:13:08I'm working I you know work from home so
- 00:13:10don't call me during my work hours I
- 00:13:12might be in a meeting but uh I'll have
- 00:13:15them text me and say you know this this
- 00:13:17is if you want a quick response if I
- 00:13:19don't respond immediately then it's
- 00:13:20probably because you know I may have
- 00:13:22read the preview but I leave them the
- 00:13:24notification unread because seeing that
- 00:13:26little you know typical marketing for
- 00:13:29social media and app companies I see
- 00:13:31that little notification thing and it
- 00:13:33bothers me I want to make it go away I
- 00:13:34don't like that little red one there so
- 00:13:37that's you know something for me to like
- 00:13:39get on me to you need to respond to that
- 00:13:42you need to get rid of that one there
- 00:13:43and you can't read the text at least on
- 00:13:45iPhone you can't read the text and then
- 00:13:47Mark it unread to my knowledge so then
- 00:13:49you know I have to save it for when I'm
- 00:13:51ready to process it but I basically
- 00:13:53weaponize all of those pieces of
- 00:13:55functionality to get myself to respond
- 00:13:57to things but but um my family has been
- 00:14:00informed and I told them multiple times
- 00:14:02text me first don't call me you'll get a
- 00:14:04faster resp response if you text and if
- 00:14:07you want me to do something be somewhere
- 00:14:10help out on a particular day time
- 00:14:12whatever you have to get on my calendar
- 00:14:14because that's what I live off of this
- 00:14:17is my brain so if you are not on my
- 00:14:20calendar if you don't have an
- 00:14:22appointment I don't I'm not there I'm
- 00:14:25not doing it and so this may seem a
- 00:14:28little extreme for some people people
- 00:14:29but I have to be accommodated so that I
- 00:14:32can effectively you know live it to my
- 00:14:34responsibilities tackle the things that
- 00:14:36I need to do have to do really want to
- 00:14:39do but the things that I just want you
- 00:14:42know out of Interest like things that I
- 00:14:44enjoy even that sometimes takes effort
- 00:14:47to get into just to do the things that I
- 00:14:49want to do and not just the things that
- 00:14:52I have to do my obligations and
- 00:14:53responsibilities so if I have a perfect
- 00:14:55day or something and I don't want
- 00:14:58unexpected scheduling things to come up
- 00:15:00I don't want the hey can you be here in
- 00:15:02an hour to help me with this no I did
- 00:15:04not have an advanced notice it was not
- 00:15:06on my calendar it does not fit into my
- 00:15:08expectation for this day it's not going
- 00:15:11to work and I almost take like a
- 00:15:12business approach to my time my personal
- 00:15:14time is you know not as bad as like hey
- 00:15:18let's schedule this next quarter but
- 00:15:20like hey give me a day give me a couple
- 00:15:22days notice so I can prepare and like
- 00:15:24move my week my schedule around like
- 00:15:28today uh you know I'm going out with
- 00:15:30some friends I have my my film this
- 00:15:32video I had some stuff to do tasks
- 00:15:33earlier I have some things I might want
- 00:15:35to do later and I move these blocks
- 00:15:37around all the time and uh if I have the
- 00:15:40expectation for the week that the week
- 00:15:41is you know I sparsely put some tasks
- 00:15:44here and there when I have the energy to
- 00:15:46process them if you want to get on my
- 00:15:48schedule I have to place that event on a
- 00:15:50particular day I might need to move some
- 00:15:51of the tasks around rebalance the
- 00:15:53schedule advanced notice helps with that
- 00:15:56so they're all on the same page now and
- 00:15:59basically they they know that I'm always
- 00:16:01willing to help but you need to meet me
- 00:16:04halfway and accommodate me for the ways
- 00:16:07that I process information deal with
- 00:16:09communication and manage my life because
- 00:16:12that's the whole thing people might see
- 00:16:13this and think you are so rude to your
- 00:16:16family you don't just drop everything
- 00:16:18you're doing to help you don't respond
- 00:16:20to phone calls it's like at face value
- 00:16:24that might be how it appears but at the
- 00:16:27same time I am always is willing to help
- 00:16:29and go above and beyond the whole point
- 00:16:31is that Meet Me Halfway this is how I
- 00:16:35have found best to manage my life to
- 00:16:38balance my responsibilities the
- 00:16:39obligations I have as a functioning
- 00:16:41member of society and as an adult who
- 00:16:43owns a house has pets a job Ed you know
- 00:16:46I'm working on my degree I have a lot
- 00:16:49going on this is how I manage my life so
- 00:16:52I am always willing to help but at the
- 00:16:54same time I can't be expected to just
- 00:16:56drop my whole life to accommodate others
- 00:17:00when already at a baseline I am in need
- 00:17:02of accommodation in the society based on
- 00:17:04how my brain functions and in some case
- 00:17:07does not function so long rant ended I
- 00:17:11manage a lot with externalization of
- 00:17:14tasks time and just appointments
- 00:17:18everything that matters to me that I
- 00:17:20have to do is in my task manager and on
- 00:17:23my calendar appointments and tasks daily
- 00:17:26routines you know things like take your
- 00:17:28vitamins brush your teeth feed the pets
- 00:17:30you know all this stuff a checklist just
- 00:17:33constant check check check check because
- 00:17:34I don't want it up here it has to be out
- 00:17:38and in that way this is my source of
- 00:17:40truth I never wonder if I forgot
- 00:17:42anything because the minute I have to
- 00:17:44remember something don't put it down put
- 00:17:47it away what is way for those things
- 00:17:50it's in this software it's on my
- 00:17:51calendar or it's in the task manager so
- 00:17:54the minute I have to remember something
- 00:17:55the minute I have to do something it
- 00:17:57goes into one of these things and then I
- 00:17:59forget about it because I don't hold
- 00:18:01things up here so I have the luxury of
- 00:18:03not stressing or getting anxiety because
- 00:18:07it's never stored up here I know it's
- 00:18:10always going to be over here in my
- 00:18:11manager software my task manager and my
- 00:18:13calendar so it's never up here I don't
- 00:18:16have stress about losing it because I
- 00:18:18always know where it's going to be
- 00:18:20another benefit of doing my tasks this
- 00:18:22way is just centralization have
- 00:18:24everything in one place and just as like
- 00:18:26an example in todoist here which is what
- 00:18:28currently use and I like a lot is uh if
- 00:18:32I have way too many tasks going on and I
- 00:18:34just see a giant list of to-dos and it's
- 00:18:37just a pool I have different things into
- 00:18:39doist I can help to like help me
- 00:18:41prioritize and get things you know
- 00:18:44started you know get that snowball
- 00:18:45rolling so like I might say you know
- 00:18:49important
- 00:18:51task uh medium important
- 00:18:54task and you task so basically which of
- 00:18:59these is most important you know and I'd
- 00:19:01have to go and find actual research
- 00:19:03papers to confirm anything but I'm from
- 00:19:05what I've heard you know ADHD brains
- 00:19:08have a have difficulty prioritizing
- 00:19:10things which is why everything looks the
- 00:19:13same level of importance which would
- 00:19:15then stress us out because we just see
- 00:19:17this giant pool of all things that are
- 00:19:19all equally important which do we start
- 00:19:20with first so that we can just do
- 00:19:23something anything to get started so
- 00:19:26what I tend to do is I will prioritize
- 00:19:28these tasks ah well you just said all
- 00:19:30that how do you do that and what I might
- 00:19:32do is I might just say what are some of
- 00:19:34the easiest things to do here and or the
- 00:19:37the most important that I have to do
- 00:19:38first if it doesn't have a Time
- 00:19:40component on it where I can just say hey
- 00:19:41by 7:00 in the morning I need to have
- 00:19:43this done then I can just say okay well
- 00:19:45this is an important task um going back
- 00:19:48this is an important task and I'm just
- 00:19:50going to assign that and when to do this
- 00:19:52we have these priority levels P1 that's
- 00:19:54a very important task makes it red I
- 00:19:56know that this is important so I can
- 00:19:57then say okay yes important task first
- 00:20:01this one is less important I'm going to
- 00:20:02give that a P2 and so now I can see the
- 00:20:05priorities breaking down this one is you
- 00:20:07know a gray one it's a very easy task
- 00:20:09and in to do this I can like sort these
- 00:20:11so that they're sorted by priority level
- 00:20:14um different things like that and so I
- 00:20:16I'll use the software to help me break
- 00:20:19things up prioritize and just be more
- 00:20:22effective with large groups of tasks
- 00:20:24especially for
- 00:20:25projects and what this also kind of
- 00:20:27looks like is just my general way of
- 00:20:29approaching tasks um like you can see on
- 00:20:32the screen here is I sift chunk lineup
- 00:20:35and conveyor belt when it comes to you
- 00:20:37know tasks emails or anything that
- 00:20:40builds up and becomes overwhelming
- 00:20:41because right now um if anybody's if any
- 00:20:44of you have emailed me you notice that
- 00:20:46my response time on emails is really
- 00:20:48crap um I sometime right now some of my
- 00:20:51emails I haven't responded to and they
- 00:20:53came in a month ago I'm not really great
- 00:20:56about email but when I usually do things
- 00:20:59with email is I will sift chunk lineup
- 00:21:02and conveyor belt sifting means that
- 00:21:05I'll like pick out the different pieces
- 00:21:08of um you know things that I don't care
- 00:21:10about like if it's just an email from
- 00:21:12medium.com saying hey here's your
- 00:21:13recommended 10 articles that you might
- 00:21:15find interesting you know I'll open
- 00:21:17those you know look at the Articles deal
- 00:21:19with all that stuff and then delete that
- 00:21:21email get it out of here I I can sift
- 00:21:23out all this stuff that doesn't need my
- 00:21:25response to it it's just whatever you
- 00:21:27know sift them out then I chunk so these
- 00:21:30five emails are from brands that want to
- 00:21:33do a sponsorship deal with me okay so
- 00:21:35then I will separate those and I use
- 00:21:37Gmail for this business Gmail and I use
- 00:21:40the star tag thing so I different color
- 00:21:42stars and I group them in a view and
- 00:21:46this lets me um actually like separate
- 00:21:49different types of emails so I can
- 00:21:51process them in chunks which ones are
- 00:21:53just emails from subscribers which ones
- 00:21:55are business emails which ones are like
- 00:21:57Financial stuff like hey somebody
- 00:21:58donated some money I need to actually do
- 00:22:00my accounting and uh I will separate
- 00:22:03them all into different chunks of you
- 00:22:05know category and then I'll line them up
- 00:22:08which is really just chronological order
- 00:22:10and I go from like oldest to newest
- 00:22:12because sorry to the people who have
- 00:22:14been waiting a month I will eventually
- 00:22:17respond and then conveyor belt once
- 00:22:19they're lined up I have the order
- 00:22:21conveyor belt start with one and just
- 00:22:23move through it sometimes that is
- 00:22:26difficult if you hit one like I have
- 00:22:28this this person emailed me a book worth
- 00:22:31of an email very hard to you know sit
- 00:22:33there and process all that text and then
- 00:22:36try and come up with a response so
- 00:22:38sometimes conveyor belt doesn't really
- 00:22:39help as much but that's typically how I
- 00:22:42will approach things and I'm still crap
- 00:22:45with email but at least with tasks it
- 00:22:47kind of does help you know sift out the
- 00:22:49things that I can just quickly get done
- 00:22:51you know shred that receip okay just go
- 00:22:53do that done now I have some effort you
- 00:22:56know momentum Snowball Effect now I go
- 00:22:58do some other tasks chunk them these are
- 00:23:00the ones that that I can do that are all
- 00:23:02relatively easy or all around the same
- 00:23:04relative project line them up which one
- 00:23:06am I going to do first maybe do that
- 00:23:08priority thing in in to-do line them up
- 00:23:11conveyor belt execute execute execute
- 00:23:14finish those tasks and that's kind of my
- 00:23:18Approach for most of these things all
- 00:23:20the little granu type of things that
- 00:23:22build up on you and I need to you know
- 00:23:24sift them break them down separate them
- 00:23:26organize them and take peace meal
- 00:23:29otherwise it just looks like a giant
- 00:23:31executive function mountain to climb and
- 00:23:33I can't manage it and another point
- 00:23:34about the calendar is having all these
- 00:23:37different blocks of time means that as
- 00:23:39soon as this little line telling me
- 00:23:40where I am in my day as soon as I'm in a
- 00:23:42new block I can have my tasks on here
- 00:23:45and this isn't just appointments but
- 00:23:46it's also sometimes just tasks or very
- 00:23:48large executive function tasks where I I
- 00:23:51think this thing is too big to take on
- 00:23:53even if I broke it down into smaller
- 00:23:55tasks have you tried a
- 00:23:57checklist obviously I've tried
- 00:24:00everything and I will sometimes put
- 00:24:02tasks on my calendar just so I can see
- 00:24:04that when this little line reaches that
- 00:24:06task I know that okay for the next 30
- 00:24:08minutes I am working on this task
- 00:24:10whatever that looks like whatever I get
- 00:24:13done on it is just that's all I need
- 00:24:15because and this is where a lot of my
- 00:24:17like software development stuff and um
- 00:24:20things we do at work actually comes in
- 00:24:21handy you know MVP scrum agile software
- 00:24:24development basically what is the least
- 00:24:27you have to do to get something that is
- 00:24:29good enough and just works the MVP
- 00:24:32minimum viable product and that's what
- 00:24:34I've been trying to apply to my life in
- 00:24:37general and and it's very helpful
- 00:24:39because I'm also kind of a perfectionist
- 00:24:40and I want things to be perfect I need
- 00:24:42to get all the tools all the best craft
- 00:24:43supplies before I can begin the project
- 00:24:45the craft I do it for five minutes and
- 00:24:47I'm done with it or I need to have all
- 00:24:51that before I can begin no just begin do
- 00:24:53something and then improve it as you go
- 00:24:56and this has been incredibly difficult
- 00:24:58and I just finished my first real
- 00:25:00production python application at
- 00:25:02work and it took me still several months
- 00:25:05multiple Sprints because I kept not
- 00:25:07sticking to that um philosophy and now I
- 00:25:12finally got got things to a point where
- 00:25:14I could stick to that mvp and get it
- 00:25:17done and it felt really good to finally
- 00:25:19have a stopping place and to feel like
- 00:25:21okay this is the minimum viable product
- 00:25:23it's not supposed to be pretty and
- 00:25:25Polished it's good enough and I tried to
- 00:25:28to apply this to like things in general
- 00:25:31which is just for 30 minutes just do
- 00:25:34things on this task and whatever that
- 00:25:37looks like just get it done because then
- 00:25:40what often will happen is oh okay
- 00:25:43momentum we're in the groove and you
- 00:25:46then continue on with this task and you
- 00:25:48get somewhere with it and you just keep
- 00:25:50going so you may have booked a half hour
- 00:25:53but maybe you ended up finishing the
- 00:25:54task and going for an hour and a half
- 00:25:56because of hyperfixation but the problem
- 00:25:57was just getting that starting energy
- 00:25:59getting started context switching into
- 00:26:01that tackling that large executive
- 00:26:03function Mountain but having on the
- 00:26:05calendar just doesn't say like here's a
- 00:26:07checkbox of this large task even if you
- 00:26:10broke it down now you have 50 small
- 00:26:13tasks breaking this thing apart and now
- 00:26:15you're just ah I can't prioritize so I
- 00:26:17just see 50 tasks of equal importance
- 00:26:19and now I'm even more stressed out well
- 00:26:22if it's just a single thing on your
- 00:26:23calendar well now you can just say oh so
- 00:26:26for the next 15 minutes 30 minutes an
- 00:26:28hour are the only thing I'm working on
- 00:26:30focused on thinking about is this then
- 00:26:33do something anything progress forward
- 00:26:35steps motion momentum get something done
- 00:26:38and now you've actually gotten gotten
- 00:26:41started and now the Snowball Effect can
- 00:26:44come in you can actually continue on and
- 00:26:46get something done and progress and this
- 00:26:48has been incredibly helpful for me
- 00:26:50especially with like time blocking
- 00:26:51because thanks to time blocking the
- 00:26:53first time I tried it I finished a task
- 00:26:55I've been sitting on for 6 months which
- 00:26:58was ordering the engagement ring um yeah
- 00:27:01so very useful um very happy that it
- 00:27:04helped with that but it's also a great
- 00:27:07strategy to actually time block your
- 00:27:08tasks sometimes if you need that
- 00:27:11additional push for executive
- 00:27:12dysfunction a great application I
- 00:27:15discovered recently I forget where I
- 00:27:18found it um it's called meta saafe I
- 00:27:22believe uh let me look it up here yeah
- 00:27:24meta saafe and it's a free application
- 00:27:27um especially if you're using for like
- 00:27:28personal use it's like I don't really go
- 00:27:30too crazy with it it's really useful if
- 00:27:32you like have a bunch of family members
- 00:27:34living with you elderly family members
- 00:27:35people who with who are on a large
- 00:27:37amount of medication and you need to
- 00:27:39make sure that everyone always takes all
- 00:27:41their meds so you can always see where
- 00:27:43I'm going with this is
- 00:27:44that routines and things are helpful but
- 00:27:48also sometimes really invasive reminders
- 00:27:50are are very helpful so I'm just going
- 00:27:52to have the um app shown on the screen
- 00:27:55right here but what I really like about
- 00:27:56the application is um single day it'll
- 00:27:59tell me what I need to actually take and
- 00:28:01as you can see I woke up this morning I
- 00:28:02took my conserta like I'm supposed to
- 00:28:05and when it you know it prompts you for
- 00:28:07your Tak your medication it'll say you
- 00:28:09know Skip you if you want to skip a dose
- 00:28:11take your medication and it'll say like
- 00:28:13now or you know set a manual time
- 00:28:16basically you can tell it when you took
- 00:28:18your medication or reschedule it um and
- 00:28:20then like you know I can see that in the
- 00:28:22afternoon I'm going to have to take my
- 00:28:23you know my riddlin and what I really
- 00:28:26like about this is I can just say now I
- 00:28:28can just say no take it now or when this
- 00:28:31will actually remind me to take my
- 00:28:32medication what I really like is that
- 00:28:34you can authorize it to send like
- 00:28:36emergency notifications and what I like
- 00:28:39about that is that if you ever had those
- 00:28:41really you know obnoxious sounding Amber
- 00:28:43Alerts because they're important they
- 00:28:44need to grab your attention it's kind of
- 00:28:46the same thing but for your medication
- 00:28:48and this has worked wonders for me
- 00:28:51because this thing will go off and it'll
- 00:28:52just go be like like whoa why are you
- 00:28:56screaming at me phone because I
- 00:28:58literally always keep my phone on silent
- 00:28:59because I never answer phone calls
- 00:29:01anyways um but it makes a noise and the
- 00:29:04fact that it's the only thing that ever
- 00:29:06makes a noise it reminds me oh I need to
- 00:29:08take my medication and it's just really
- 00:29:11obnoxious and in your face so much so
- 00:29:14that I actually remember to take my
- 00:29:15medication before I show you how the the
- 00:29:18great effects of this let me show you
- 00:29:19some more stuff about the app not
- 00:29:20sponsored just a great app it's free too
- 00:29:23at least for what I use it for like you
- 00:29:24can actually add dependence or friends I
- 00:29:27don't know why they're not doing friends
- 00:29:28and a medication tracking out but so you
- 00:29:31can add your dependence and other people
- 00:29:32so you can manage uh medication for
- 00:29:35family members but you know I click
- 00:29:37medications and you can actually add new
- 00:29:40medications and uh what you can also do
- 00:29:42is like say you can see the you know my
- 00:29:44conert looks like a red you know uh oval
- 00:29:48looking thing you can change the color
- 00:29:50and pill size uh of these icons to be
- 00:29:53more in line with what your medication
- 00:29:55is to again help you better keep track
- 00:29:57of it
- 00:29:58you can also tell at the stock so every
- 00:30:00time you take a dose you can see like
- 00:30:02okay I have 39 conserta pills left and
- 00:30:04so this will actually help me because
- 00:30:06you can set a timer hey when I reach
- 00:30:08seven pills call to get your medication
- 00:30:11refill because you know getting a
- 00:30:13medication refill for a schedule 4
- 00:30:15controlled substance medication for ADHD
- 00:30:17is a royal pain at least here in like
- 00:30:20America so I have to call like 3 days in
- 00:30:24advance at least to have them pack my
- 00:30:26meds and then I can only pick it up on
- 00:30:28like the last day of my
- 00:30:30prescription because of it being a
- 00:30:33controlled substance so basically it's
- 00:30:35just a royal pain um but this actually
- 00:30:37is helpful to keep me on track to
- 00:30:39remember to do those very critical
- 00:30:40components of my medication
- 00:30:43adherence uh and yeah there's a lot of
- 00:30:46other things you can look at in here but
- 00:30:47honestly just having the obnoxious
- 00:30:49reminders for the medication is
- 00:30:51incredibly valuable and useful to me uh
- 00:30:53because then I can go through and say oh
- 00:30:56yeah I didn't take my medication
- 00:30:57yesterday at least I don't think I did
- 00:30:59um and then yeah and it'll tell you and
- 00:31:02then one of the greatest things is about
- 00:31:03this is that it will also eventually at
- 00:31:05the end of a week email you about your
- 00:31:07medication adherence and let's see what
- 00:31:10my last one looks like so Medicap will
- 00:31:12actually email you uh a report on your
- 00:31:16week's medication adherence and so let's
- 00:31:19look at the last month or so because
- 00:31:20I've been doing this for about a month
- 00:31:23and my first one you know I got had
- 00:31:25about an 85% adherence where I took both
- 00:31:27my conser and my rlin um and like how
- 00:31:30close the time was to when I should be
- 00:31:32taking it did I take it on time or did I
- 00:31:34forget about my rlin and take it like 2
- 00:31:36hours later and ignore the obnoxious
- 00:31:37reminder so basically I had 85% and then
- 00:31:40I went to
- 00:31:42878
- 00:31:4392 and then this latest week I had you
- 00:31:46know 100% adherence um you can see like
- 00:31:50here's the adherence rates 85 92 85 all
- 00:31:53like basically my adherence has actually
- 00:31:55been getting better to my medication
- 00:31:57regimen
- 00:31:58and it's just thanks to this you know
- 00:31:59little application that obnoxiously
- 00:32:01screams at you hey uh did you take your
- 00:32:04meds hey did you take your meds take
- 00:32:06your meds so I do recommend checking it
- 00:32:09out if you have um an iPhone I'm not
- 00:32:10sure if it's on Android or not but very
- 00:32:12useful application I like it I use it
- 00:32:15it's free and uh I feel like it's it's
- 00:32:18helped me uh keep track of this and
- 00:32:21actually adhere to the medication
- 00:32:22regimen I'm supposed to be on one of
- 00:32:24those great tips I got from ADHD Tik Tok
- 00:32:28was how to organize your fridge to
- 00:32:31accommodate for
- 00:32:32ADHD and this was like this was actually
- 00:32:36really cool I was not expecting this to
- 00:32:38actually be effective and useful but
- 00:32:42holy crap it is uh because of object
- 00:32:45permanence and forgetting that things
- 00:32:47exist when you can't see them or they're
- 00:32:49not all spread out on a surface level uh
- 00:32:52if I have a bunch of vegetables in the
- 00:32:54crisper drawer or something I'm going to
- 00:32:56forget about them and they're likely
- 00:32:58just going to go bad and now I just
- 00:32:59wasted money now this tip was really
- 00:33:01cool and it was inside your fridge take
- 00:33:05all of your condiments all the stuff
- 00:33:07like you know like your ketchup your
- 00:33:08mustard your sauces and all this other
- 00:33:10stuff put those in the drawers in the
- 00:33:14places where you can't see them because
- 00:33:17that way it's constantly in your face
- 00:33:19and you can visually see all of your
- 00:33:20ingredients your vegetables your other
- 00:33:22food your leftovers it's all there
- 00:33:25visible you can then ah yeah I need to
- 00:33:28cook those
- 00:33:29vegetables because you're more likely to
- 00:33:32say oh I want some ketchup for this dish
- 00:33:35or I need some tartar sauce and go and
- 00:33:38get the condiment from the drawer
- 00:33:40because the condiments are kind of you
- 00:33:42know they're always there so it's kind
- 00:33:44of like my other rule is put it away
- 00:33:47even if I can't see it I know it's
- 00:33:49always going to be there so in that way
- 00:33:51you're more likely to go hunt down open
- 00:33:53a drawer and find the condiment than you
- 00:33:55are to just open the drawer and remember
- 00:33:58oh yeah I have vegetables I need to cook
- 00:34:00versus just I always see the vegetables
- 00:34:02therefore ah yes I can make those
- 00:34:04vegetables now this would really use a
- 00:34:08vinegret oh yeah I can go to the drawer
- 00:34:10grab the vinegret and this is a very
- 00:34:12useful tip and we applied this and in my
- 00:34:15house and it's been really nice I it's
- 00:34:18been hasn't been like life changing but
- 00:34:20it's it's actually been really Pleasant
- 00:34:21I think I actually let vegetables go bad
- 00:34:24a lot less often now which is nice
- 00:34:27because I need to eat eat more
- 00:34:28vegetables another really cool thing
- 00:34:30that I've taken advantage of lately is
- 00:34:34Smart Homes so I've recently made the
- 00:34:37entire house a smart house and I have
- 00:34:39you know several Echo dots and smart
- 00:34:41lights and other things and it just
- 00:34:43makes a lot of things a lot easier I can
- 00:34:46just from my phone manage the thermostat
- 00:34:49or the lights in the house or I have
- 00:34:50routines where you know if we're leaving
- 00:34:52the living room and we're going to bed I
- 00:34:54can just say hey we're going to bed and
- 00:34:57it will you know set up the hallway
- 00:34:59lights on very low dim the bedroom dim
- 00:35:03bathroom dimmed that way it the bright
- 00:35:05light doesn't wake us up but it gives us
- 00:35:07like a walk path of a lighted area to go
- 00:35:10to you know do the night routine and
- 00:35:12then when we're in bed you know good
- 00:35:14night and it turns off everything and
- 00:35:17it's a really great way of effortlessly
- 00:35:19for me managing everything and as I get
- 00:35:21more into networking with my it degree I
- 00:35:23want to do stuff like have separate VLS
- 00:35:26for the unsecured devices and iot
- 00:35:28devices and work and personal and other
- 00:35:31network nerdy junk stuff but what I'm
- 00:35:34going to show you right here is the
- 00:35:37application uh for the echo dots and
- 00:35:41what I really like and take advantage of
- 00:35:42is the shopping list because it doesn't
- 00:35:44even require me to deal with my task
- 00:35:46manager todoist to build the shopping
- 00:35:49list there or any of the other processes
- 00:35:51we used to do this is actually really
- 00:35:52great because I can say things like and
- 00:35:54I apologize if she gets really loud
- 00:35:56Alexa at add milk to the shopping list
- 00:36:00milk added when you're in the store
- 00:36:02Alexa
- 00:36:04stop so now I've added an item to the
- 00:36:07shopping list and you can see it right
- 00:36:08here what is also really cool is that it
- 00:36:11will group these items together so for
- 00:36:13instance Dairy and in this way I can say
- 00:36:15cheese or you know milk or anything else
- 00:36:19and it will actually group them by
- 00:36:20sections too which is something else
- 00:36:21that we did is that you this is probably
- 00:36:24just again a weird presentation of my
- 00:36:26brain is that when I build a shopping
- 00:36:28list I would organize it by a circular
- 00:36:31route and then in and out through the
- 00:36:32aisles until the finally checkout and
- 00:36:34organize our items based on where I know
- 00:36:36they are in the store so that I could
- 00:36:38have a single endless or seamless uh
- 00:36:41route through the store and to check out
- 00:36:43to maximize efficiency in this route
- 00:36:46planning of you know we're in bread
- 00:36:47first so all bread things then we move
- 00:36:49into meat then we move into Dairy and
- 00:36:52doing that so this actually helps
- 00:36:54facilitate that with no extra effort I
- 00:36:56just say what I want added to the
- 00:36:58shopping list bam it's right here and I
- 00:37:00can check it off in the phone no
- 00:37:01additional notes no apps no anything
- 00:37:04else other than this and I can do it all
- 00:37:06with voice so this has been a very
- 00:37:08helpful thing and now I can just say hey
- 00:37:11I already got milk done and tap it off
- 00:37:14in the store I actually ordered furry
- 00:37:15[ __ ] already so then done there we go
- 00:37:18shopping is done and that is just a
- 00:37:21really great way of managing some of
- 00:37:22these things is just quickly get it out
- 00:37:24of the head give it to the you know
- 00:37:26voice assistant and and now your
- 00:37:28shopping list is ready to go and the
- 00:37:30last tip I'm going to bring up at the
- 00:37:31moment is Apple watch I mean I'm not
- 00:37:35really I'm not a big fan of Apple
- 00:37:38because I mean I I dislike Windows a lot
- 00:37:42but even Windows is starting to get a
- 00:37:43little better with some of the things
- 00:37:44you can do you know Windows terminal
- 00:37:46power toys and various customizations I
- 00:37:49still don't like the operating system I
- 00:37:50like the Unix based operating systems
- 00:37:52for anybody nerdy enough who understands
- 00:37:54what that
- 00:37:55means but for the things that still need
- 00:37:58a very normal type of you know operating
- 00:38:02system Mac or Windows um I've chosen Mac
- 00:38:06obviously but I still really prefer
- 00:38:10Linux and I'm was going to make like a
- 00:38:12year into having a Macbook kind of a
- 00:38:16video I'm a couple months late already
- 00:38:17on that s shocker but I like Linux far
- 00:38:22better I dislike windows but Mac OS and
- 00:38:26apple in general is still a royal pain
- 00:38:28but some things about the ecosystem are
- 00:38:30really nice and convenient airdrop is
- 00:38:33amazing between the phone and the
- 00:38:35computer but the Apple watch is also
- 00:38:37really nice if the battery wasn't
- 00:38:40so God the battery sucks it it's dead
- 00:38:43after like a day or two um but the I
- 00:38:47believe the Heart Reading monitor on
- 00:38:49this is actually really really great but
- 00:38:51what I really like about the Apple watch
- 00:38:52is that it syns to to-do list so if I
- 00:38:55have a task with a due date it will pop
- 00:38:58up when it reaches that tight that date
- 00:39:00and time and just like the medication
- 00:39:03reminders and including the medication
- 00:39:05reminders is that this thing is really
- 00:39:07great for quickly and annoyingly getting
- 00:39:10in my face about things that I need to
- 00:39:12do to keep me on track to do those
- 00:39:15things uh so I can just quickly be like
- 00:39:18you know on my watch check my tasks go
- 00:39:20there yep check check check and actually
- 00:39:22get through my tasks somewhat easily
- 00:39:25just right here um it's so I really use
- 00:39:28it for I wanted to try it out as you
- 00:39:30know a piece of Tech equipment because I
- 00:39:32love equipment and Tech and it's been
- 00:39:36you know somewhat helpful when the
- 00:39:37battery doesn't die on me so I just keep

- 00:39:47and I just charge both things at night
- 00:39:49usually and it works good enough but
- 00:39:52maybe you might benefit from an Apple
- 00:39:54Watch if you've seen how to ADHD on
- 00:39:56YouTube um I'm pretty sure Jessica uses
- 00:39:58an Apple Watch Pretty extensively as
- 00:40:00well so I may not like apple but
- 00:40:03sometimes if the product helps me
- 00:40:04function and live a better
- 00:40:06life maybe it actually is worth it until
- 00:40:10something better can come along so Apple
- 00:40:13watch so I hope you enjoyed the video
- 00:40:15and got some useful tips out of it or
- 00:40:17just enjoyed this type of content uh
- 00:40:19it's been on my list to do more ADHD
- 00:40:22videos I need to figure out what I want
- 00:40:25to talk about and how I want to talk
- 00:40:26about things
- 00:40:28I definitely have a lot to say about it
- 00:40:30um as been as I've been more aware of
- 00:40:32things going on in my life and how I
- 00:40:35respond to things it's been enlightening
- 00:40:37exactly how much I actually do struggle
- 00:40:41with daily life I always thought I was
- 00:40:43just this is normal this is this is my
- 00:40:47normal so I expect some more of that and
- 00:40:50people seem to really enjoy the ADHD
- 00:40:52content so I'll be making more of it I
- 00:40:54also want to do more programming type of
- 00:40:57vide especially people who are ADHD and
- 00:41:00want to learn programming or just want
- 00:41:03to learn
- 00:41:04programming but yeah hopefully you
- 00:41:05enjoyed the video and um a big shout out
