الملخص

الجدول الزمني

  • 00:00:00 - 00:05:00

um it's a sea port town you can see
  • 00:01:05
there's a huge deep water Port here uh
  • 00:01:08
that has actually been home to a

nothing else would um just north of this
  • 00:01:28
city uh a handful of kilometers is the
  • 00:01:31
southern border of Lebanon it's October
  • 00:01:34
7th it's one year since uh the
  • 00:01:37
anniversary of the attacks uh Hamas
  • 00:01:39
attacking uh the kabut on the southern
  • 00:01:41
border on Gaza and uh we chose this time
  • 00:01:44
uh in particular because of the
  • 00:01:45
memorials and somber remembrance of what
  • 00:01:48
occurred here but also because one year
  • 00:01:50
on and Israel is fighting a war both in
  • 00:01:53
the South with Hamas and in North with
  • 00:01:55
Hezbollah as well as further east with
  • 00:01:57
Iran so uh it's in like terrifying time
  • 00:02:00
    to be
  • 00:02:02
    [Music]
  • 00:02:07
here haven't heard a sound of a drone

  • 00:02:15
    north to
  • 00:02:17
Lebanon but because it's so low I bet
  • 00:02:19

  • 00:02:41
October 7th represents an intimate and
  • 00:02:44
brutal slaying of women and children in
  • 00:02:47
their own front yards and their living
  • 00:02:49
rooms in their beds while they were
  • 00:02:52
sleeping this wasn't done by tanks and
  • 00:02:55
bombs or even in the case of 9/11
  • 00:02:57
airplanes used as missiles to to attack
  • 00:03:00
adults who are at work it was done by
  • 00:03:03
hand it was done in ways completely
  • 00:03:07
unfathomable to even the most creative
  • 00:03:09
mind it was a crime of passion I sought
  • 00:03:13
to explore how Israelis are responding
  • 00:03:16
how do they cope how do they ensure that
  • 00:03:18
two wrongs do not make a
  • 00:03:24
right the current battle between Israel
  • 00:03:27
and Hamas and Hezbollah and Iran
  • 00:03:29
although it didn't start here it
  • 00:03:31
    intensified on October 7th
  • 00:03:34
2023 you can see over my shoulder
  • 00:03:36
although it might be in the distance a
  • 00:03:37
bit far Israel has pushed into Gaza and
  • 00:03:41
has been bombing it hitting with
  • 00:03:42
    artillery executing operations looking
  • 00:03:45
for the remaining hostages that have not
  • 00:03:47
    been brought back
  • 00:03:49
home what's most striking to me as a
  • 00:03:52
former Marine is we're looking at a
  • 00:03:54
single City we're only a few thousand
  • 00:03:57
yards away from it we can see the fences
  • 00:03:59
that divide Israel from Gaza and maybe a
  • 00:04:02
few hundred meters of Farmland before
  • 00:04:04
you hit a single city of operation and
  • 00:04:07
to think that it's been a year of
  • 00:04:08
    military operations of pounding that
  • 00:04:11
City and chasing the Israeli hostages
  • 00:04:14
from one location to another and I think
  • 00:04:15
that they that it can't be done yet it's
  • 00:04:18
    pretty
  • 00:04:19
shocking it makes it feel like it's a
  • 00:04:22
    really
  • 00:04:23
    small battlefield but has Epic
  • 00:04:27
Proportions uh and epic meaning for the
  • 00:04:29
rest of the world World especially given
  • 00:04:31
that Israel is fighting on seven fronts
  • 00:04:34
now it's all because of a a few square
  • 00:04:38
    [Music]
  • 00:04:44
miles but we walked up on this I
  • 00:04:46
recognized it instantly from the from
  • 00:04:49
the footage I saw on Twitter on the
  • 00:04:51
    morning of the
  • 00:04:53
7th yeah it looks like you know it's an
  • 00:04:55
area where there was bar and from the
  • 00:04:57
    footage I remember
  • 00:05:00
looking into the bar and just seeing
  • 00:05:01
piles of bodies and this is obviously
  • 00:05:04
the O where it is and they're building a
  • 00:05:07
    memoral
  • 00:05:08
to it's shocking to be here to be
  • 00:05:21
honest this is an IDF bunker it's made
  • 00:05:24
of cement it's got some corated metal on
  • 00:05:25
it as well and effectively when you have
  • 00:05:27
indirect fires are going to be fired at
  • 00:05:28
your position instead of being out in
  • 00:05:30
the open where you can get hit by frag
  • 00:05:32
You' run to these positions where you'd
  • 00:05:33
be relatively safe on the morning of the
  • 00:05:36
attack here at the festival folks were
  • 00:05:39
running into this bunker and what
  • 00:05:41
happened was they were contained in a
  • 00:05:43
single location and then terrorists were
  • 00:05:45
able to throw frag grenades into these
  • 00:05:47
bunkers and kill multiple people at
  • 00:05:50
once I think there's a good amount of
  • 00:05:52
footage that came out from that morning
  • 00:05:53
that shows that horrific angle from
  • 00:05:56
people's cell phones and this is exactly
  • 00:06:03
    exactly one of those
  • 00:06:05
    sites can't hear it there a [ __ ] War
  • 00:06:09
    about 200 me right over
  • 00:06:10
    there it's
  • 00:06:14
insane we're inside one of the
  • 00:06:16
bunkers where people at the Nova
  • 00:06:18
Festival were hiding and taking cover
  • 00:06:21
you can see frag on the wall
  • 00:06:23
here where grenades had gone off and
  • 00:06:26
    frags hitting the wall
  • 00:06:30
    there's a memorial inside
  • 00:06:56
    [Music]
  • 00:07:03
    [Music]
  • 00:07:15
so there's nothing new that I can say
  • 00:07:18
about the Israeli state and its
  • 00:07:19
conflicts with Hezbollah or Hamas or
  • 00:07:22
Iran or any other number of folks
  • 00:07:24
adversaries that they have in this
  • 00:07:25
region but what is unique is the
  • 00:07:28
explosive grow growth in the tech
  • 00:07:30
industry and its support for the defense
  • 00:07:33
Mission uh and in particular this town
  • 00:07:36
we in the downtown of herzelia is kind
  • 00:07:39
of the epicenter for where that Tech
  • 00:07:40
development occurs so what is commercial
  • 00:07:42
technology that's useful for the defense
  • 00:07:44
space well sometimes people call it dual
  • 00:07:47
use Technologies but don't be confused
  • 00:07:49
that's not a defense weapon or a defense
  • 00:07:51
product that could be used in the
  • 00:07:53
commercial space when people talk about
  • 00:07:55
true dual use or commercial technology
  • 00:07:57
for the defense space we're talking
  • 00:07:58
about a commercial piece of technology
  • 00:08:01
product service whatever it might be
  • 00:08:03
that is then repurposed for the defense
  • 00:08:05
space take for example a drone that
  • 00:08:08
might be doing inspection of critical
  • 00:08:10
infrastructure in the oil and gas
  • 00:08:11
industry but where else could it be used
  • 00:08:14
in the military to do inspections of
  • 00:08:15
    critical infrastructure or uh or
  • 00:08:18
    inspections of enemy positions or
  • 00:08:19
whatever it might be that's kind of the
  • 00:08:21
mission set that we're going to be
  • 00:08:22
exploring today when we go talk to a
  • 00:08:25
brand new company called extend uh and
  • 00:08:27
its CEO of V Shapiro know this one for
  • 00:08:31
example 2 years a company called replay
  • 00:08:35
    which I founded H created a technology
  • 00:08:38
    allowing for people to
  • 00:08:39
    actually um teleport themselves into
  • 00:08:42
sporting arenas and and basically see
  • 00:08:44
the game from different perspectives so
  • 00:08:46
after winning two Amy Awards one with
  • 00:08:48
one with the Yankees and one with NBC
  • 00:08:49
Monday Night Football we we were
  • 00:08:51
acquired by Intel roughly two $200
  • 00:08:54
million and uh we formed a group called
  • 00:08:56
    into the
  • 00:08:57
sports uh it was called Intel Intel Tel
  • 00:09:00
Aviv at some point so this whole
  • 00:09:02
building was Intel oh really yeah so I'm
  • 00:09:05
in this building for many years so this
  • 00:09:07
is uh I would say one half of the DNA
  • 00:09:09
strand of the company we start extend
  • 00:09:11
started as a telepresence company but
  • 00:09:13
putting people into robots into drones
  • 00:09:15
that was like the idea um half of the
  • 00:09:18
people you see here in the hallway come
  • 00:09:19
from replay so we go we go back many
  • 00:09:22
years at some point I met this guy the
  • 00:09:24
head of the Israeli drone Racing League
  • 00:09:26
back when when drone uh drone racing was
  • 00:09:29
naive right for fun before they started
  • 00:09:31
to kill tanks we decided that uh let's
  • 00:09:34
create a technology that allows people
  • 00:09:36
to fly like this after 5 minutes that's
  • 00:09:39
    it 5 minutes it's it's a big Challenge
  • 00:09:42
and we did that with a very big Paradigm
  • 00:09:44
Shift of how drones are controlled
  • 00:09:46
instead of telling them how to do things
  • 00:09:48
you actually tell them what to do so we
  • 00:09:51
open we opened the league uh we we
  • 00:09:53
started the letting people fly with
  • 00:09:54
their kids families you know that was
  • 00:09:56
the thing uh but then uh the summer of
  • 00:09:59
2019 happened where Hamas started to
  • 00:10:02
send Kites and balloons uh with booby
  • 00:10:05
trapped bombs on them we basically
  • 00:10:06
Hammer these balloons using our using
  • 00:10:09
our technology anyone can do it it was
  • 00:10:11
actually fun the biggest uh challenge
  • 00:10:14
with uh um you know operating complex
  • 00:10:16
missions is the human skills Gap know
  • 00:10:18
people are not meant to actually
  • 00:10:20
manually control these drones and robots
  • 00:10:22
and the second thing is that human
  • 00:10:24
operators cost a lot of money so if you
  • 00:10:26
take a DJI drone it cost like $1,000 the
  • 00:10:28
human operator the you know that comes
  • 00:10:31
with that drone cost like a you know
  • 00:10:33
like a half like a $500 a day right yeah
  • 00:10:36
so that's uh that's that that has been
  • 00:10:38
our focus in the past 5 years how do you
  • 00:10:40
let anyone fly from anywhere in the
  • 00:10:42
world so we actually operate these
  • 00:10:44
drones uh in in all of our environments
  • 00:10:47
from anywhere we can we can actually be
  • 00:10:49
in Tel Aviv in Command Center and fly
  • 00:10:51
our our drones all over the
  • 00:10:54
place the the mode of operation that the
  • 00:10:56
IDF uses is one outdoor drone that
  • 00:11:00
basically flies High uh quite finds the
  • 00:11:05
relevant targets uh it has uh different
  • 00:11:08
types of payload capabilities so you can
  • 00:11:10
actually uh place you know from laser
  • 00:11:13
    laser
  • 00:11:14
    designators um like siging coming
  • 00:11:18
different types of things and and you
  • 00:11:20
can actually use that to uh send other
  • 00:11:24
drones to finish the mission these are a
  • 00:11:27
loitering munition drones uh um that
  • 00:11:30
    basically work in very contested
  • 00:11:33
environments no GPS sometimes no coms as
  • 00:11:35
well so this is like the command and
  • 00:11:37
control and you can put a number of
  • 00:11:40
different sensors or payloads on it and
  • 00:11:42
then this is the hit to kill so you
  • 00:11:45
would strapping munition to this yes
  • 00:11:46
just to reiterate before the 7th the
  • 00:11:49
sale cycle in Israel would be a year a
  • 00:11:51
year and a half two years in some cases
  • 00:11:53
yeah after the 7eventh it's down to this
  • 00:11:57
this the fastest I've seen is like uh a
  • 00:11:59
week wow yeah but the major program was
  • 00:12:02
like three three months or so yeah okay
  • 00:12:06
two special and good things about this
  • 00:12:08
drone it can hold its position inside of
  • 00:12:10
a a building for example or Outdoors uh
  • 00:12:13
with no GPS so is no no GPS uh component
  • 00:12:17
at all on the Drone the whole frame is a
  • 00:12:19
car carbon fiber uh it's pretty strong
  • 00:12:22
um so it's uh cool yeah you can touch it
  • 00:12:24
you can yeah it will be a little a
  • 00:12:28
little bit on the a little bit heavier
  • 00:12:30
than this one because you know all the
  • 00:12:31
electronics are not here because again
  • 00:12:33
it's a marup but after that you can uh
  • 00:12:36
actually grab one of those the most
  • 00:12:37
important thing is to move my hand like
  • 00:12:40
from my wrist and press the trigger okay
  • 00:12:43
okay so uh just get a fill of it move
  • 00:12:45
your wrist right and left up and
  • 00:12:48
down okay and I want you to fill the tri
  • 00:12:51
you know you said it has to be intuitive
  • 00:12:53
earlier in in the US military we just
  • 00:12:55
    call that marine
  • 00:12:56
proof okay so in order for us to to take
  • 00:12:59
    off
  • 00:12:59
U short press long press here so it's
  • 00:13:01
going to be click and long click yeah
  • 00:13:05
now it's in standby now uh joystick up
  • 00:13:08
    for 3
  • 00:13:13
seconds okay so drone is in the air now
  • 00:13:16
uh although it's very tempting don't
  • 00:13:18
look at the the screen let go the sugar
  • 00:13:21
    it will be less less
  • 00:13:25
contr oh you can actually lift your hand
  • 00:13:28
good Lu see how weird it is not that guy
  • 00:13:31
the one sitting down this guy this guy
  • 00:13:34
okay so I want you to back through the
  • 00:13:35
    door
  • 00:13:38
    [Applause]
  • 00:13:40
okay maybe a button a so press the front
  • 00:13:46
is amazing so just keep flying and I
  • 00:13:50
want you to see what will happen like in
  • 00:13:51
    a let's say in a 30 seconds or something
  • 00:13:54
like just flying here yeah just just
  • 00:13:56
    keep flying
  • 00:13:58
    [Applause]
  • 00:14:00
yeah okay now the drones get tucked up
  • 00:14:04
the into the wall so we can actually
  • 00:14:06
turn off drone fell to the ground which
  • 00:14:08
is completely fine ski in 3 2 1 now it's
  • 00:14:11
in skid mode now I want you to hit
  • 00:14:13
reverse all the way all the
  • 00:14:15
    [Music]
  • 00:14:16
way trying to get away from the
  • 00:14:20
    wall
  • 00:14:22
good yeah try to look look that way okay
  • 00:14:26
so uh move forward just a little bit
  • 00:14:28
    towards here
  • 00:14:30
now stop okay you're skid mode short
  • 00:14:33
    press on the go right
  • 00:14:36
    [Applause]
  • 00:14:38
yeah okay I think I can get out of it
  • 00:14:41
okay so try to be a little bit more
  • 00:14:42
    aggressive right
  • 00:14:44
now yeah never mind okay so almost yeah
  • 00:14:48
yeah this is amazing yeah it's pretty
  • 00:14:50
pretty doe be honest pretty fun well
  • 00:14:54
    it's super fun yeah like
  • 00:14:57
[ __ ] I am imagine that this type of
  • 00:15:01
    pinpoint accuracy is increasing the
  • 00:15:03
amount of accountability in combat MH in
  • 00:15:06
places like in places like Gaza even
  • 00:15:09
though i' would say globally you know
  • 00:15:11
there's there's an outcry of people
  • 00:15:13
saying there's no accountability when in
  • 00:15:14
fact it might in fact be the opposite
  • 00:15:17
would you agree with that yeah of course
  • 00:15:19
so not only as an extend worker but uh
  • 00:15:22
but basically you know as a as a
  • 00:15:24
lieutenant myself um Israel spends a ton
  • 00:15:28
of money on like um you know a very
  • 00:15:30
accurate weaponary so uh so this is one
  • 00:15:34
of them but this is super cheap compared
  • 00:15:36
to like very accurate guided missile
  • 00:15:39
sure yeah of course and and actually
  • 00:15:41
every Soldier and every person can
  • 00:15:42
actually fight you will do it yourself
  • 00:15:44
in a in a second yeah um yeah what does
  • 00:15:47
what does something like this cost a few
  • 00:15:49
    th000 a few th000 bucks versus
  • 00:15:53
like1 you may be asking yourself but
  • 00:15:56
    isn't this technology a little
  • 00:15:57
    sophisticated for an unsophisticated
  • 00:16:00
enemy and the answer is no because the
  • 00:16:03
    same basic use of commercial
  • 00:16:04
    off-the-shelf Technologies is available
  • 00:16:07
    on both sides of this
  • 00:16:12
conflict okay we were just here a couple
  • 00:16:15
hours ago uh doing a segment from
  • 00:16:18
herzelia described it as the Silicon
  • 00:16:21
Valley of Israel and two three hours
  • 00:16:25
    later a uh Hezbollah drone
  • 00:16:29
uh that came in from the south Lebanese
  • 00:16:31
border where we were at and heard it
  • 00:16:33
come over us heard the drones come over
  • 00:16:35
us ended up striking a Target here in
  • 00:16:38
Israel and uh or in Pia we were probably
  • 00:16:42
I don't know maybe a football field away
  • 00:16:44
from where we filmed the segment
  • 00:16:51
    earlier moments ago a
  • 00:16:55
UAV struck this uh build building which
  • 00:16:59
is a senior citizen's home in the city
  • 00:17:02
of herzelia we are now taking care of
  • 00:17:04
all the civilians here we're taking them
  • 00:17:06
into a safe location while we have our
  • 00:17:10
Specialists operating on scene to remove
  • 00:17:13
    that
  • 00:17:16
    [Music]
  • 00:17:20
UAV so what a vision the goal is to
  • 00:17:23
automate the entire Loop of perception
  • 00:17:26
decision and action we have a system
  • 00:17:29
    that upgrades remote control weapon
  • 00:17:31
stations we have a system that upgrades
  • 00:17:33
uavs with Optical cameras that can
  • 00:17:36
survey the the area H we have a products
  • 00:17:40
    that automate the entire situational
  • 00:17:42
awareness of our own Vehicles H we have
  • 00:17:44
a lot of things that we working on on
  • 00:17:46
Country doing both of the uavs and the
  • 00:17:50
    country
  • 00:17:51
uavs the feedback loop is insane like we
  • 00:17:54
have much more stuff and gear that is
  • 00:17:56
able to touch ground and have real
  • 00:17:58
feedback from the field so the couple of
  • 00:18:01
weeks you have a feedback and you alter
  • 00:18:02
the thing and then a couple weeks again
  • 00:18:04
so it's really really insane how fast
  • 00:18:06
things are kind of moving out basically
  • 00:18:08
things are happening in days or weeks
  • 00:18:11
what used to take years right so uh what
  • 00:18:14
happened is you know there are
  • 00:18:16
    requirements that would people would
  • 00:18:17
have with small startups which would
  • 00:18:18
take them forever to get on as an
  • 00:18:20
example we became a supplier of the IDF
  • 00:18:23
within weeks what normally would take
  • 00:18:25
years because it's this is done out of
  • 00:18:27
    necessity right
  • 00:18:29
and Jeremy as the sales guy is it is it
  • 00:18:31
    nerve-wracking knowing that they'll buy
  • 00:18:32
your [ __ ] in a week and like you need to
  • 00:18:33
put up numbers right away uh I wouldn't
  • 00:18:36
say nering I'd say it was it was pretty
  • 00:18:38
remarkable you know post October 7th you
  • 00:18:41
know it would the weeks following I'd be
  • 00:18:42
getting calls at like 11:00 p.m. people
  • 00:18:44
would be leaving the K out people would
  • 00:18:45
be leaving their offices in the IDF and
  • 00:18:47
thef and they'd be calling and saying
  • 00:18:48
you know this is what we're trying to do
  • 00:18:50
can you help us um so you know if
  • 00:18:53
anything I think it's exhilarating to be
  • 00:18:55
able to work in a company that's so
  • 00:18:57
prevalent and in the no of how we can be
  • 00:18:59
supporting the the current landscape in
  • 00:19:02
Israel uh to be solving problems that
  • 00:19:04
you know aren't just theoretical doing
  • 00:19:07
doing something but really on the ground
  • 00:19:09
    tomorrow being implemented and solving
  • 00:19:11
real world issues that are basically in
  • 00:19:13
our backyard so in many ways I think the
  • 00:19:15
best thing I heard the analogy is that
  • 00:19:17
every day is October 8th so this is the
  • 00:19:20
day after uh and it's basically been a
  • 00:19:24
    year of October 8th
  • 00:19:37
    Ori basically successfully
  • 00:19:39
    commercialized computer vision for
  • 00:19:41
    maritime purposes for commercial ships
  • 00:19:44
and we are installed on more than 590
  • 00:19:47
    commercial ships today collecting more
  • 00:19:50
than 2 million artical miles of data
  • 00:19:51
every month and it actually Powers our
  • 00:19:54
    AI algorithms for Superior situational
  • 00:19:58
awareness at se uh in any visibility
  • 00:20:01
    conditions even in restricted
  • 00:20:04
visibility um my biggest I would say a
  • 00:20:07
reason for starting this business is it
  • 00:20:10
because it combines both my biggest
  • 00:20:12
passions which are Maritime uh from my
  • 00:20:15
background as a child growing up nearby
  • 00:20:18
the sea and of course Ai and technology
  • 00:20:20
which is very interesting and it's quite
  • 00:20:23
a unique combination not many people
  • 00:20:25
    here uh can actually um
  • 00:20:29
uh make both of these Technologies and
  • 00:20:32
    domains uh create these synergies
  • 00:20:34
between themselves so I'm very proud and
  • 00:20:36
very happy to lead this organization
  • 00:20:38
here of software and Hardware that's
  • 00:20:40
currently working and checking a few
  • 00:20:42
things we have the real time live
  • 00:20:45
systems over here working uh we can see
  • 00:20:47
over here these are these are injected
  • 00:20:50
data it's not simulated data this is
  • 00:20:53
real data this is live right now this is
  • 00:20:55
not live right now but this was live
  • 00:20:56
this is a recording with the entire
  • 00:20:59
presentation has happened then we can
  • 00:21:02
play back this over and over again test
  • 00:21:04
everything before we deploy it and then
  • 00:21:06
we deploy to Friendly ships between 5 to
  • 00:21:09
10 ships just to make sure everything is
  • 00:21:12
is in order and then deploy it in scale
  • 00:21:14
and and these are the camera this is the
  • 00:21:17
is this a commercial off the shelf
  • 00:21:18
camera system yeah so the cameras inside
  • 00:21:21
are commercial off the shelf FL cameras
  • 00:21:24
Thal Imaging devices and cameras by Sony
  • 00:21:27
but the housing it's itself it's of our
  • 00:21:29
own design and requirements it should be
  • 00:21:32
lightweight you can carry it with one
  • 00:21:34
hand and climb the ladder uh it's
  • 00:21:36
    completely sealed
  • 00:21:38
IP67 it is Broad field yeah what is that
  • 00:21:41
what is that completely sealed for ocean
  • 00:21:42
conditions for ocean condition it should
  • 00:21:45
sustain and keep on working for at least
  • 00:21:48
5 years for har conditions or humidity
  • 00:21:52
and the ere sun and heat and cold
  • 00:21:55
    vibrations and RF interfaces
  • 00:21:57
    interference and em
  • 00:21:59
all that in collisions with US Naval
  • 00:22:01
    vessels and collision
  • 00:22:02
with yeah you see we also have here a
  • 00:22:05
digital Zoom a night mode a screen
  • 00:22:08
    recording
  • 00:22:11
function each the old the old ones each
  • 00:22:13
one covers 120° field of view and these
  • 00:22:16
are designed and these are new
  • 00:22:18
manufactured as you can see they're
  • 00:22:20
going to power the perception of the
  • 00:22:22
    world's first fully commercial
  • 00:22:25
    autonomous
  • 00:22:26
ship we are not the hard a company it's
  • 00:22:29
very imperative to understand uh and we
  • 00:22:32
want to push and be you know a leading
  • 00:22:35
AI software services company as opposed
  • 00:22:38
to Hardware the hardware is the enabler
  • 00:22:41
okay it's not the focus of the company
  • 00:22:44
and and Hardware today is is easier to
  • 00:22:47
get than ever before and I think this is
  • 00:22:49
something we want to keep and make sure
  • 00:22:52
in the United States I feel like defense
  • 00:22:53
investing has been from a macro
  • 00:22:56
perspective on the rise and D and
  • 00:22:58
Horowitz seoa Founders fund other funds
  • 00:23:01
um have been interested in pouring money
  • 00:23:03
into this space um is it the same here
  • 00:23:06
in Israel since October 7th well that's
  • 00:23:09
a great question basically since October
  • 00:23:12
    7th occurred I
  • 00:23:14
guess there are maybe 10 to 20 new
  • 00:23:19
emerging um VCS trying to to peot into
  • 00:23:24
the field or even if that it's older VCS
  • 00:23:27
that were more agnostic or um oh or did
  • 00:23:32
like main uh other stuff so defense is
  • 00:23:36
their thing right now everybody's trying
  • 00:23:37
to do the is this even like do you see
  • 00:23:39
like American VCS showing up in herzelia
  • 00:23:41
Tel Aviv we have we have a seoa that
  • 00:23:44
just moved here I don't know if you saw
  • 00:23:45
    the announcement but basically that's
  • 00:23:47
that's their Focus right now they're
  • 00:23:48
going to do Israeli defense Tech they're
  • 00:23:50
one of the partners just moved here they
  • 00:23:52
announced it publicly that this is their
  • 00:23:54
domain this is what they want to focus
  • 00:23:56
on so in the United States you know like
  • 00:23:57
the sales cycle even post 9/11 the sales
  • 00:24:01
cycle to get a company you know to
  • 00:24:05
engage with the government to go through
  • 00:24:07
the proposal process for it to be
  • 00:24:09
selected for them to deploy to have it
  • 00:24:11
    you know manage I mean it's multi-year
  • 00:24:14
process is it the same here in Israel or
  • 00:24:16
is it different so it used to be I could
  • 00:24:18
tell you that now post October 7th the
  • 00:24:20
rules are different I have a a CEO that
  • 00:24:23
I'm very close to that would tell you
  • 00:24:25
that the procurement process has changed
  • 00:24:28
from being a year and a half to 3 weeks
  • 00:24:30
wow of huge budgets of government
  • 00:24:33
    deployed into the defense industry
  • 00:24:34
obviously I mean the needs are very time
  • 00:24:37
sensitive um people are getting out of
  • 00:24:40
the field they know exactly what's
  • 00:24:42
missing they know exactly what they need
  • 00:24:44
they know what they're looking for and
  • 00:24:46
the industry here moves very very fast
  • 00:24:48
in order to supply what's needed one
  • 00:24:50
question that I've I have had and I have
  • 00:24:52
answered myself over the years of being
  • 00:24:54
an investor I'm curious to know how you
  • 00:24:56
approach it is you know when I think
  • 00:24:57
    about the
  • 00:24:58
base and I think about defense companies
  • 00:25:02
there's only so many customers I mean
  • 00:25:04
here in Israel right it's the IDF
  • 00:25:06
generally you go to the United States
  • 00:25:08
maybe you can sell to the states US Army
  • 00:25:10
US Marine Corps Etc but even beyond that
  • 00:25:14
    there's you know defense budgets
  • 00:25:15
globally aren't that attractive and when
  • 00:25:18
you start to go to countries like China
  • 00:25:20
or Iran I mean you simply cannot sell to
  • 00:25:22
them you know right they're so it's
  • 00:25:23
almost like of the total invest or of
  • 00:25:25
the total number of customers out there
  • 00:25:27
let's say half of them you can't even
  • 00:25:29
sell to true so um when I think about
  • 00:25:32
the total addressable Market you know I
  • 00:25:34

  • 00:25:44
on Commercial Tech that has a use case
  • 00:25:46
for the IDF or will it all be
  • 00:25:49
