00:01:06
dp600 with that I'll turn it over to our
00:01:09
speaker Stephanie thank you for joining
00:01:14
us hi everyone thank you so much for
00:01:16
joining today so excited to be here to
00:01:19
talk about how to prepare to pass the
00:01:21
dp600 exam with you so we just saw this
00:01:25
slide but quick reminder um two of these
00:01:29
sessions have already been completed and
00:01:31
this is the third so if you missed some
00:01:34
the other two definitely go back and
00:01:36
check them out they're going to be very
00:01:37
very helpful the first one was benefits
00:01:40
of getting certified why why do you want
00:01:41
to do this um with lucrecia second one
00:01:44
was tips and tricks for the exam day
00:01:47
with Heidi and now today we're going to
00:01:50
talk about how to prepare to pass the
00:01:52
exam so you can see the AKA link here
00:01:55
get certified dp600 definitely go back
00:01:59
and check those out to see the other
00:02:00
recordings as
00:02:02
well a little bit about me my name is
00:02:05
Stephanie Bruno I am a data platform MVP
00:02:08
and I also am a bi architect with I link
00:02:11
digital um I'm a data witch a Microsoft
00:02:14
certified trainer uh a user group leader
00:02:17
also I just like to Tinker and create
00:02:19
content and uh share what I've learned
00:02:21
with other people um and I'm coming at
00:02:24
you today from Pittsburgh
00:02:26
Pennsylvania so thanks for having me
00:02:30
all right so we're going to just talk
00:02:31
about a few things today I'll tell you a
00:02:33
bit about how I prepared to the uh to
00:02:36
pass the exam and then we'll just dive
00:02:37
in a little bit more on you know what do
00:02:40
you need to learn how are you going to
00:02:42
study and and what's what's your
00:02:44
practice going to look like um so first
00:02:46
of all I took the exam when it was um
00:02:49
early on in beta so it was extra scary I
00:02:52
didn't know what to expect um I'm I'm a
00:02:54
nervous exam taker so you know some
00:02:57
people are super comfortable some are
00:02:59
nervous like me um so I find you know
00:03:02
extra practice is really important for
00:03:04
me to get comfortable also to uh
00:03:08
understand kind of what the environment
00:03:09
is going to be like because just like
00:03:11
anything else you know you might know
00:03:12
the content but if you're thrown into an
00:03:14
unfamiliar situation it can be extra
00:03:17
stressful um so so definitely check out
00:03:20
Heidi's tips she'll talk a little bit
00:03:22
more about the exam day so yeah for me I
00:03:25
definitely had to do extra practice to
00:03:27
get comfortable um I had the opportunity
00:03:29
also to build out some actual fabric
00:03:32
projects before taking the exam and that
00:03:34
is that's pretty huge um because you've
00:03:38
really I think having that hands-on
00:03:40
experience is going to be very important
00:03:42
so if you haven't had a chance to do
00:03:43
that in addition to everything we're
00:03:44
going to talk about today make sure that
00:03:46
you get some Hands-On practice um other
00:03:50
areas I think were important for me to
00:03:52
understand is that you don't have to be
00:03:54
an expert in every area tested so for
00:03:57
example if you come from a SQL
00:03:58
background but you're new to spark your
00:04:01
SQL knowledge might kind of help you
00:04:02
make up for some of the spark questions
00:04:04
that you might get wrong so you don't
00:04:06
have to know everything um definitely
00:04:09
you want
00:04:10
to kind of be able to touch on
00:04:12
everything but you don't have to be an
00:04:14
expert in everything um as a good friend
00:04:16
of mine Stacy tells me C's get degrees
00:04:20
okay so you need a 700 to pass this exam
00:04:23
um you don't need to get it perfect to
00:04:25
be able to pass the exam so uh so C's
00:04:28
get degrees you you don't have to know
00:04:30
everything to be able to pass it um
00:04:33
we'll go into a little bit more detail
00:04:34
on these but for me you know taking a
00:04:36
practice test that's huge that really
00:04:38
gets you comfortable with how the
00:04:39
questions are written um go through the
00:04:41
learn modules that we're going to show
00:04:43
you in a few minutes and definitely try
00:04:45
to make time for the Hands-On Labs again
00:04:48
you know get your get your fingers on
00:04:50
the keyboard and be doing things don't
00:04:52
just ju just look you want to definitely
00:04:55
uh do some Active Learning here and then
00:04:57
there are a bunch of YouTube videos out
00:04:59
there that can help help you as well so
00:05:01
for me that was definitely how I
00:05:03
practiced to um prepare for the exam you
00:05:06
know some Hands-On work was key as well
00:05:09
as practice with types of
00:05:12
questions all right so the next slide is
00:05:15
let's talk a little bit more
00:05:17
specifically about you know what what
00:05:19
you need to learn here so first of all
00:05:22
there is this collection of modules
00:05:24
that's going to prepare you for the exam
00:05:26
you can get to this by going to the main
00:05:29
Sam page which I'd like to show you
00:05:31
right
00:05:32
here uh we have the link in the chat I
00:05:34
think for this so this is the main
00:05:36
certification page this is going to show
00:05:38
you everything you need to know so I'm
00:05:40
going to just kind of scroll through
00:05:41
here a little bit uh you can see the
00:05:44
overview of the exam and then some
00:05:47
definitely important areas to look at
00:05:49
which is how to prepare and practice and
00:05:52
take the exam this is going to show you
00:05:55
kind of the overview as well as some
00:05:56
important links here the skills measured
00:06:00
and then you can take these courses
00:06:01
these are free you can just jump in and
00:06:03
start taking these courses this get
00:06:05
started with Microsoft fabric one is
00:06:07
very important um when you click on
00:06:10
these links I'll show you that in a
00:06:12
minute um it's going to take you to the
00:06:14
modules so this is where you're going to
00:06:15
get into those Hands-On labs and and
00:06:18
those key areas to study this is also
00:06:21
going to be uh your kind of portal for
00:06:23
where you can take a PR practice
00:06:25
assessment and then experience what it
00:06:28
actually will feel like so if you're new
00:06:30
to these certifications the sandbox can
00:06:32
be really helpful so that you understand
00:06:35
what the environment will be like and
00:06:36
then there's some great uh prep videos
00:06:39
so here's the details about the exam and
00:06:42
then so what do you need to study you
00:06:44
need to get into these courses so we
00:06:46
also have this
00:06:48
link which is this main learning path
00:06:50
here so this is how you're going to jump
00:06:52
in it's handy it kind of gives you an
00:06:54
idea of how long this is going to take
00:06:55
you so you know whatever works for you
00:06:57
you can do one module a day or you can
00:06:59
just um you know binge the whole thing
00:07:02
uh but these are these are key so number
00:07:05
one definitely go through all of these
00:07:07
uh learn
00:07:09
modules um finally this is the
00:07:13
YouTube we have this link for you too
00:07:16
this is the fabric learn together Series
00:07:18
so if you're going to be doing these
00:07:20
modules you know you might as well do it
00:07:22
with some experts who are going to share
00:07:23
some of their tips along the way so each
00:07:26
of these uh videos is one of these
00:07:28
modules
00:07:30
so you can go through you can do the
00:07:31
Hands-On Labs right along with the
00:07:34
instructors and um kind of hear their
00:07:36
tips and tricks uh for you know the
00:07:38
extra Pieces perhaps that maybe the
00:07:41
learn modules aren't going to cover that
00:07:43
they think are important for you to uh
00:07:46
to learn uh so I think you know if
00:07:49
you're planning to do the modules go for
00:07:51
it definitely and go through this learn
00:07:54
together
00:07:54
Series so that's really uh kind of
00:07:58
important areas for
00:08:00
uh what you can you know do to get
00:08:02
started for for the learning part so
00:08:06
complete those learn modules and watch
00:08:08
the topic walkthroughs now this is
00:08:10
actually my hot tip here is that not
00:08:12
everything is covered in the learn
00:08:14
modules so you will want to dig around
00:08:16
the official documentation for
00:08:18
additional tutorials on sections where
00:08:20
you're less confident and I found that
00:08:24
there actually is a link for these learn
00:08:28
modules or sorry the end to end
00:08:31
tutorials so if you have enough time you
00:08:33
know in addition to after you go through
00:08:35
the learn modules look at some of these
00:08:37
endtoend tutorials because they're going
00:08:39
to go into a little bit more detail into
00:08:41
some of the areas that maybe the modules
00:08:43
don't
00:08:44
cover so uh very important again you
00:08:47
know just make sure you understand that
00:08:49
not all of the the modules don't cover
00:08:51
everything that you need to know so you
00:08:53
want to definitely uh supplement
00:08:57
it all right so back to to the
00:09:01
slides okay so the next one so this was
00:09:04
you know how how are we learning it how
00:09:05
are we learning all this
00:09:06
content um now we have to study right so
00:09:09
we've learned it we've gone through the
00:09:11
modules we've uh looked at extra
00:09:14
tutorials but we also need to study
00:09:16
right because some of the questions um
00:09:19
are going to be just things that you
00:09:20
need to know so how are you going to do
00:09:22
this uh well fortunately there is a
00:09:24
study guide attached to the exam as well
00:09:27
and we have that link for you too
00:09:30
uh here's the study guide this is really
00:09:32
really
00:09:34
important uh because this is going to
00:09:36
show you the skills measured so I'm
00:09:38
going to scroll down a little bit we're
00:09:40
going to get an overview of the exam but
00:09:42
here are the skills measured this is
00:09:44
going to tell you just overall what do
00:09:46
you need to know um and then we see the
00:09:49
percentage of the exam that's going to
00:09:51
be focusing on certain areas so maintain
00:09:54
a data analytic solution is going to be
00:09:56
25 to 30% prepare data 45 to 50% % and
00:10:00
implemented manag semantic models 25 to
00:10:03
30% and then you can scroll down a
00:10:05
little bit more and you're going to see
00:10:06
even more detail here uh so this is this
00:10:10
is key make sure that you look through
00:10:12
each of these because if there is an
00:10:13
area that you're not comfortable with
00:10:15
you're going to want to go learn more
00:10:17
about those so this is really a very
00:10:19
important study
00:10:20
guide and
00:10:22
then
00:10:24
finally there's also this Reddit thread
00:10:27
that's going to help you with even more
00:10:29
resources so this is the thread we we're
00:10:31
putting the link in the chat also uh
00:10:33
other people have put in some more
00:10:35
resources that they've used to pass the
00:10:37
exam as well and study guides so you
00:10:40
know definitely go out to the community
00:10:43
to get uh tips from other people that
00:10:46
have passed the exam so my tip here is
00:10:50
you know the official documentation is
00:10:51
fantastic it's great Microsoft has done
00:10:53
a really good job but don't limit
00:10:55
yourself to that check out additional
00:10:57
resources from experts like pratti Jane
00:11:00
data Mozart Andy Cutler and Kevin chant
00:11:03
they've all blogged and shared their
00:11:05
whole Journeys about um what to what to
00:11:07
study for the exam so very very helpful
00:11:11
information there and you know people
00:11:12
are always adding more too so definitely
00:11:14
take a look at Community
00:11:17
Resources uh because that's going to
00:11:18
give you the unvarnished truth about
00:11:21
people's experience with the
00:11:23
exam okay and
00:11:25
now so the third one here now you have
00:11:28
to practice so you've learned you've
00:11:31
studied um again you know some of us
00:11:35
nervous test takers you want to feel
00:11:37
more comfortable you know you don't want
00:11:38
any surprises so taking that practice
00:11:41
assessment is going to help a lot for
00:11:43
for two reasons one it's going to just
00:11:44
get you comfortable with the type of
00:11:46
questions that get asked and uh two it's
00:11:50
going to give you uh an indication of
00:11:53
areas where maybe you need to study a
00:11:55
little bit more or you need to practice
00:11:57
a little bit more so my tip here uh if
00:12:00
you watched Heidi's session she probably
00:12:03
mentioned that you can use Microsoft
00:12:05
learn now for these
00:12:06
certifications when I took the exam that
00:12:09
kind of tripped me up more than it was
00:12:11
helpful because I didn't know how to use
00:12:14
it properly in that environment what I
00:12:17
discovered is that you know I can't use
00:12:19
Google or Bing so it's not going to
00:12:21
bring me to exactly the page on learn
00:12:23
that I'm looking for you have to learn
00:12:25
how to navigate learn so for questions
00:12:27
you don't know try navigating through
00:12:30
learn for the answer without using a
00:12:32
search engine because you're not going
00:12:33
to have a search engine during the exam
00:12:35
and finally you also cannot do a control
00:12:39
F on the learn page to search for
00:12:41
keywords so that can eat up time that
00:12:43
definitely happened to me too I just
00:12:45
wasn't quite prepared for how to use
00:12:48
learn in an effective way um so you want
00:12:51
to make sure that you can practice that
00:12:53
in advance so it doesn't trip you up
00:12:55
like it did trip me up so take the
00:12:58
practice assessment multiple times make
00:13:01
sure you're comfortable navigating learn
00:13:03
I have even heard some people say you
00:13:05
know they didn't even like using learn
00:13:07
because it it just made them uh doubt
00:13:10
themselves too much so I would recommend
00:13:13
not relying on learn as a crutch too
00:13:15
much but just know that it's there and
00:13:18
you know if as long as you're
00:13:19
comfortable navigating then it shouldn't
00:13:22
trip you up um so that's that's a really
00:13:26
helpful one I think is make sure you
00:13:27
know how to use learn well for
00:13:30
this okay so these are the three
00:13:33
important areas right you're going to
00:13:35
learn um through all of those modules
00:13:37
and the YouTube videos then you're going
00:13:40
to study with Community Resources and
00:13:42
the study guide and then you're going to
00:13:44
practice with the practice
00:13:46
assessment um and make sure that you
00:13:48
know how to use learn uh by navigating
00:13:50
it so really quick to wrap up we're just
00:13:54
going to talk about the basics of the
00:13:56
exam here and I I think Heidi covered
00:13:58
this as well um but you're going to have
00:14:00
about 60 Questions you're going to have
00:14:02
the 180 minutes you're going to have
00:14:04
case studies and one thing I learned
00:14:06
from talking to people is that you don't
00:14:08
necessarily know where your case study
00:14:10
is going to fall is it going to be in
00:14:12
the beginning or at the end so just kind
00:14:15
of expect the unexpected there um you
00:14:18
don't get uh dinged for wrong answers so
00:14:21
don't leave anything blank you
00:14:24
definitely want to answer all the
00:14:26
questions um because there's no penalty
00:14:28
for guessing so you can always review
00:14:30
and go back and look at them if you need
00:14:33
to but again you know you might just be
00:14:34
second guessing yourself so uh it can be
00:14:38
stressful but remind yourself that you
00:14:41
don't have to know
00:14:42
everything uh you just have to get a 700
00:14:45
to pass um focus on what you do know and
00:14:49
then make sure that you know how to
00:14:50
navigate
00:14:51
learn and then finally just some tips
00:14:54
and tricks to remind yourself practice
00:14:56
practice practice take that learning
00:14:59
path uh review the product documentation
00:15:02
definitely that's where you're going to
00:15:03
find some of those additional
00:15:04
tutorials um schedule the exam right um
00:15:08
maybe don't wait until you think you're
00:15:10
prepared before you schedule it uh
00:15:12
because this might just make you prepare
00:15:14
yourself and do take the practice
00:15:17
tests
00:15:18
so what is going to come next um again
00:15:23
if you have not watched the first two
00:15:24
videos you can view the rest of the
00:15:26
series at this uh get certified dp6 00
00:15:29
link start studying you know you can
00:15:31
just start right now just open up one of
00:15:33
those YouTube videos and and go along
00:15:36
with one of those modules and um I think
00:15:39
we're going to hear about her how to uh
00:15:41
earn a free exam voucher as well and I
00:15:45
think with that I'm just going to check
00:15:46
the chat see if anybody had any
00:15:48
questions for
00:15:50
me yeah Stephanie this is uh Pam spear
00:15:54
from the Microsoft fabric team how early
00:15:58
should we be scheduling the exam how far
00:16:04
out on one second um how early well I
00:16:08
think it depends on on how much
00:16:10
preparation you feel like you need to do
00:16:12
you know if you feel like you're pretty
00:16:14
new at it you're going to need to um do
00:16:17
a little bit more preparation you're
00:16:19
going to need to do a little bit more
00:16:20
study and if you haven't had time to do
00:16:23
anything Hands-On you're going to want
00:16:24
to give yourself time for that um so I
00:16:27
think you know it really just depends on
00:16:30
on your experience and your comfort with
00:16:32
taking these
00:16:34
exams thank you um and then I wanted to
00:16:38
share a little bit about this free exam
00:16:40
voucher offer uh I know the um producer
00:16:45
put the link in the chat it's it's
00:16:49
https
00:16:51
aka.ms am ready
00:16:54
dp600 and I believe there is a free s
00:16:57
offer for you to complete your exam by
00:17:00
the end of 2024 so December 31st
00:17:04
2024 um from what I've read it hasn't
00:17:06
started yet but if you visit that link
00:17:10
um you can follow along uh for all of
00:17:12
the announcements that are going to
00:17:13
happen and because you know it's coming
00:17:16
you can start studying now right
00:17:18
Stephanie's laid out the plan for you to
00:17:21
start studying now because you know
00:17:23
you're going to have to register and
00:17:24
take that exam by um the end of the year
00:17:29
yeah that's what I did too is I I took
00:17:31
or I scheduled the exam um I think right
00:17:35
before the voucher was going to run out
00:17:37
so so that was my um experience with you
00:17:40
know how how should we schedule how
00:17:42
early should we schedule the exam I
00:17:44
scheduled
00:17:45
it uh late enough so I would still get
00:17:47
the voucher um early enough uh sorry
00:17:51
early enough that I would still get the
00:17:52
voucher yeah yep so the free voucher is
00:17:56
fantastic definitely you know these
00:17:58
opportuni for taking these exams uh free
00:18:01
is
00:18:02
fantastic so I'll uh certainly try to
00:18:05
get the the free exam
00:18:11
voucher do we have any other any other
00:18:14
questions
00:18:20
yeah um if not and if you didn't get a
00:18:23
chance to uh see Heidi's video I think
00:18:27
one of the other areas that tripped me
00:18:29
up a little bit was I took the exam um
00:18:32
you know from home you can either
00:18:35
schedule it to take somewhere or you can
00:18:37
take it at home if you do take it at
00:18:38
home uh you have to be very Vigilant
00:18:41
about following the rules for uh the
00:18:44
room that you set it up in you know you
00:18:46
have to take pictures um I had some
00:18:49
technical difficulties like my camera
00:18:51
kept turning off and so those little
00:18:53
things like that can stress you out uh
00:18:56
so I think they do have an opportunity
00:18:58
for you to kind of practice in advance
00:19:01
and make sure that your setup is correct
00:19:03
definitely do that because you want to
00:19:06
you want to go into it comfortable uh
00:19:08
you know you don't want to go into it
00:19:09
and have the little technical
00:19:11
difficulties be what causes you stress
00:19:14
um so I think there are some resources
00:19:18
online I know shabnam Watson she put a
00:19:21
video out about her experience with the
00:19:23
online uh proctoring and just some tips
00:19:27
that that you can follow with that
00:19:29
because that can be one that can kind of
00:19:31
stress you
00:19:36
up okay yeah a location web page to
00:19:40
check the nearest place to the take the
00:19:42
exam yeah so when you go on the page let
00:19:46
me just jump back to where I was when
00:19:49
you go to the main um exam page that we
00:19:53
talked about in the beginning when you
00:19:55
go down to the bottom to where you can
00:19:58
schedule year exam right here this is
00:20:00
going to show you your locations so
00:20:02
you'll just it this will take you to the
00:20:04
Pearson view website and it will show
00:20:06
you the locations that you can you can
00:20:08
take the exam
00:20:11
in um we have a question about how much
00:20:13
is it so there is an opportunity to
00:20:17
learn earn a free voucher Victor um so I
00:20:20
think yep Pam's putting the link in the
00:20:22
chat right there so if you follow this
00:20:24
link then you can earn a free exam
00:20:26
voucher but you can see um without the
00:20:29
voucher it's
00:20:30
$165
00:20:39
us I don't see any other questions other
00:20:43
than about how to obtain the free
00:20:44
voucher so Pam thank you for putting
00:20:46
that link in
00:20:54
there um other things to think about
00:20:59
I think just the format if you
00:21:01
understand the format of the exam you'll
00:21:04
be much more comfortable with it I
00:21:06
hadn't taken one in a long time so you
00:21:08
know I got a little bit tripped up by
00:21:11
the case study and I had one in the
00:21:12
beginning one in the end so if you can
00:21:15
just get comfortable with the format
00:21:17
with the case studies you can't Mark the
00:21:19
questions and go back uh so those ones
00:21:22
can be a little bit more stressful um so
00:21:26
prepare for for the case study but again
00:21:29
you know I think I'm making it sound
00:21:31
scarier than it is it's it's actually
00:21:33
it's not bad and um again you just need
00:21:37
a 700 to pass so don't feel like you
00:21:39
have to be an expert in every single
00:21:41
area to be able to pass this exam um you
00:21:44
know it's really kind of a broad test so
00:21:48
they just want to make sure that you
00:21:49
have the experience and the
00:21:51
understanding of the overall platform
00:21:53
and all the workloads in it you don't
00:21:55
have to be expert in every single area
00:22:00
okay and I see Pam has put the voucher
00:22:02
information in the chat with the
00:22:05
information that it will expire by the
00:22:07
end of this year December 31st so um I
00:22:10
would suggest go out and follow this
00:22:13
link and when you're when the free
00:22:14
vouchers are available go ahead and
00:22:16
schedule yourself you have nothing to
00:22:19
lose and Pam was there anything else we
00:22:21
wanted to
00:22:23
cover that is it um so we can give
00:22:26
everybody five minutes back we're so
00:22:28
glad everyone could join us
00:22:30
today thanks so much
