- 00:00:38electrical schematics um
- 00:00:41my name is brandon smith i am the

- 00:00:45engineer
- 00:00:46and i have presenting today eric weber
- 00:00:48one of our senior application engineers
- 00:00:50who will be uh
- 00:00:51presenting on solidworks electrical
- 00:00:55so before we start talking about
- 00:00:57solidworks electrical specifically
- 00:00:59i'd like to share with you what we've
- 00:01:02observed over the past couple of years
- 00:01:04in the industry
- 00:01:05we've seen that electrical designers
- 00:01:08regardless of their company size or
- 00:01:10product
- 00:01:11products designed generally follow a
- 00:01:13three-step process in the electrical
- 00:01:14system design
- 00:01:16first they draw their schematic to
- 00:01:19establish the logical definition
- 00:01:21then they select parts from online or
- 00:01:23printed catalogs and
- 00:01:25draw any special cables or other
- 00:01:26components needed
- 00:01:28for needing fabrication and you know
- 00:01:31next
- 00:01:32typically they have to document their
- 00:01:34system in a way that's useful for
- 00:01:35different audiences right
- 00:01:37for example a designer might scan
- 00:01:39through their drawing to
- 00:01:41conduct a build construct a bill of
- 00:01:43material or
- 00:01:44document each wire connection to make a
- 00:01:46from two list
- 00:01:48and this typically results in many
- 00:01:50manually created spreadsheets
- 00:01:52you know wireless billing materials and
- 00:01:54other reports
- 00:01:56that need to be completed before the end
- 00:01:57of the project and finally since
- 00:01:59you know the spreadsheet are in no way
- 00:02:02linked to the cab files
- 00:02:03all documents must be regularly audited
- 00:02:06the problem of ensuring these documents
- 00:02:09are accurate becomes
- 00:02:10exponentially more complex as more
- 00:02:13designers collaborate on the project
- 00:02:16and really you know the purpose of
- 00:02:17solidworks electrical is twofold
- 00:02:19with a powerful schematic creation tool
- 00:02:22solidworks electrical helps designers
- 00:02:24work more efficiently
- 00:02:26solidworks electrical features
- 00:02:29time-saving tools that help designers
- 00:02:31get their jobs done
- 00:02:32faster and also it includes powerful
- 00:02:35project
- 00:02:36management tools that keep track of all
- 00:02:39project details and updates
- 00:02:41so any changes made in one area of a
- 00:02:43project
- 00:02:44will be reflected in other relevant
- 00:02:46areas for example
- 00:02:48if we were if we were to substitute a
- 00:02:51switch
- 00:02:51on a schematic for an alternate part any
- 00:02:54reference to that switch in the bill of
- 00:02:56materials
- 00:02:56the wiring lists or other documentations
- 00:02:59will reflect that change
- 00:03:01so effectively we're fully automated the
- 00:03:04time-consuming
- 00:03:05uh an error-prone process of creating
- 00:03:08updating and checking many
- 00:03:09separate project documents now today's
- 00:03:12demonstration that eric will be uh
- 00:03:14presenting to us has uh
- 00:03:18he will show us the key benefits of
- 00:03:20solidworks electrical
- 00:03:21um primarily faster schematic creation
- 00:03:24with fewer errors
- 00:03:26additionally the easy data reuse and
- 00:03:29new content set up as well as rapid
- 00:03:32change management
- 00:03:33and finally professional and accurate
- 00:03:35final documentation
- 00:03:37so with that said i'm going to turn
- 00:03:39things over to eric weber
- 00:03:41who's going to be presenting for us
- 00:03:42today we do have the
- 00:03:45chat and question box up if we time
- 00:03:48permitting we will answer those
- 00:03:49questions otherwise follow up with an
- 00:03:51email to answer
- 00:03:52answer any questions that may come up
- 00:03:55thank you for your time and eric take it
- 00:03:56away
- 00:03:57good morning and good afternoon everyone
- 00:04:00as brandon said my name is eric webber
- 00:04:02and today i'll be showing solidworks
- 00:04:05electrical
- 00:04:06uh so we'll we'll do a few different
- 00:04:08things we will
- 00:04:09start with creating a project
- 00:04:13and then creating a couple of schematics
- 00:04:15and showing you
- 00:04:17the uh process of of doing that and then
- 00:04:19lastly we'll do a
- 00:04:21single line diagram to kind of show a uh
- 00:04:24summary of
- 00:04:25of what uh our our whole system looks
- 00:04:29like
- 00:04:29and then we'll we'll talk a little bit
- 00:04:31about reporting and
- 00:04:33showing how to export these to pdfs and
- 00:04:35and kind of
- 00:04:36looking at uh our smart pdf tool
- 00:04:40so here i'm i'm just starting out in
- 00:04:42solidworks electrical
- 00:04:44uh and when i go to my projects manager
- 00:04:46you see i
- 00:04:47i've i've got all of my prod uh projects
- 00:04:50that
- 00:04:50have previously been worked on um and
- 00:04:53then from here i can create a new
- 00:04:55document
- 00:04:56now the documents always start with a
- 00:04:59a project template so here i've got my
- 00:05:02drone project template
- 00:05:03selected so when i hit okay
- 00:05:06i can enter in any information that's
- 00:05:09that's relevant
- 00:05:10to my um my project here so
- 00:05:13i can just first give this a
- 00:05:16name so we'll just call it drone
- 00:05:18schematic
- 00:05:21demo and i can also
- 00:05:24you know fill in any information that
- 00:05:26would be useful for me so you'll see
- 00:05:29that electrical has a lot of text boxes
- 00:05:32for
- 00:05:33uh for data that that we could use in
- 00:05:36different locations whether that's in
- 00:05:38our title block
- 00:05:39or uh with our next to our symbols so we
- 00:05:42can
- 00:05:43control where this information appears
- 00:05:45control what information we want to use
- 00:05:49so here on the the project properties
- 00:05:52i'm
- 00:05:52there's there's really not a ton that
- 00:05:54i'm going to use today but this
- 00:05:56is something that that you'll notice in
- 00:05:58in a lot of these menus so here i've
- 00:06:00just got the description
- 00:06:01in there as drone schematic um so once i
- 00:06:04hit okay it will create our project
- 00:06:06so solidworks electrical works on a sql
- 00:06:10database so um it's it's very fast
- 00:06:13uh in in easily searchable
- 00:06:17and also allows us to collaborate with
- 00:06:20others so
- 00:06:20you know if if i make a change to
- 00:06:22something that that gets updated in the
- 00:06:24sql database in the project
- 00:06:26and then if another user needs to come
- 00:06:28in and uh
- 00:06:30and and make changes or or look at the
- 00:06:32documents they can do that as
- 00:06:34well um and and just connect to the same
- 00:06:36sql
- 00:06:37database and same project
- 00:06:40so once i create a project there are
- 00:06:43several things that that get brought in
- 00:06:46from our project template okay
- 00:06:48so a lot of these are are different
- 00:06:50options that we have
- 00:06:52so when you first go through and set up
- 00:06:54a project template
- 00:06:56you can go through and and create all of
- 00:06:59these or
- 00:07:00enter in all of your settings and then
- 00:07:02equations for
- 00:07:04you know how things get labeled how
- 00:07:05things are marked
- 00:07:07um you know we'll see later what my wire
- 00:07:09label kind of looks like here
- 00:07:11um different equations for how the wires
- 00:07:13get numbered and how
- 00:07:16our different components get get named
- 00:07:19kind of automatically so a lot of these
- 00:07:22settings again are stored in the
- 00:07:23document
- 00:07:24template and then also
- 00:07:28you know a big one is our wire style so
- 00:07:30you'll see
- 00:07:31that i've got a specific set of wires
- 00:07:33here that i use
- 00:07:34for these drone projects um so so
- 00:07:37these wire styles are all saved in the
- 00:07:39project template that allow me
- 00:07:41you know access to those wires
- 00:07:45so we'll get started here on this
- 00:07:46project so
- 00:07:48the first thing i'm going to do is is
- 00:07:51set up some locations so locations are
- 00:07:53actual physical locations on
- 00:07:56um you know on your machine or
- 00:07:59in this case the drone that that we may
- 00:08:02want to
- 00:08:03uh document to help you know find where
- 00:08:05different components are when actually
- 00:08:07doing the physical wiring
- 00:08:09um again this is something that's
- 00:08:11optional a lot of this stuff is optional
- 00:08:13you use what you want to but i wanted to
- 00:08:15quick show
- 00:08:16uh what this looks like so um what i'm
- 00:08:19going to do is create a new top level
- 00:08:21location so it
- 00:08:23gives us an automatic location mark
- 00:08:26which is
- 00:08:27l2 and then i can give it a name and
- 00:08:29we'll just call this
- 00:08:31arm okay so you know the the initial one
- 00:08:34was drone body
- 00:08:36and then i have my arm location now on
- 00:08:39the drone body we have some sub
- 00:08:40locations so i can
- 00:08:42choose that and then just say create
- 00:08:45several locations and i'm actually going
- 00:08:47to create three
- 00:08:48sub locations so i can hit ok there so
- 00:08:51now we have
- 00:08:52you know an l1 l1 sublocation l1 l2
- 00:08:56and so on so if i edit this property now
- 00:08:59i can give this
- 00:09:02i can give this a description so we'll
- 00:09:04call this one bottom plate
- 00:09:08and then the next one we'll call middle
- 00:09:16and lastly our top plate so again the
- 00:09:20the body itself has some some different
- 00:09:24sub locations
- 00:09:28all right so with those done um now i
- 00:09:31can
- 00:09:31create my start creating my drawing so
- 00:09:36to create a schematic all we need to do
- 00:09:38is right click on our book here
- 00:09:41and just say new scheme and you see here
- 00:09:45that it creates a new sheet now if i
- 00:09:47open this up
- 00:09:48you can kind of see the the title block
- 00:09:50that that was stored in the project
- 00:09:51template
- 00:09:52is is pulled up um again that can be
- 00:09:55mapped
- 00:09:55you know you can use some default uh
- 00:09:58title blocks
- 00:09:59for different types of drawings uh in
- 00:10:02this case
- 00:10:03we're just kind of using a blank sheet
- 00:10:05with a little bit of text
- 00:10:06uh down below now we're gonna set a
- 00:10:10a property here for this first sheet to
- 00:10:12kind of give it a name so i'm gonna
- 00:10:14call this one uh we're just gonna call
- 00:10:16this
- 00:10:18motor control
- 00:10:23and when i do that you'll see it it
- 00:10:26gives a name here for us
- 00:10:29so now i'm going gonna just start
- 00:10:31inserting my symbols so typically i like
- 00:10:33to work where i insert all my symbols
- 00:10:35and then
- 00:10:35draw wires uh you can there there's a
- 00:10:39lot of flexibility with
- 00:10:40with solidworks electrical so if if you
- 00:10:43like to insert symbols draw some wires
- 00:10:46you can certainly do that there's
- 00:10:47there's a lot of flexibility
- 00:10:49um when when working with the project
- 00:10:53so what i'm going to do is first kind of
- 00:10:55insert all of my symbols so when i say
- 00:10:57insert symbol
- 00:10:58it sort of remembers the last one i've
- 00:11:00used
- 00:11:02but when you click other symbol here
- 00:11:05it brings us into kind of a search mode
- 00:11:08so we can
- 00:11:09kind of search by classification or we
- 00:11:12can use our search filters
- 00:11:15so the first thing i'm going to do is is
- 00:11:18insert uh my motor symbol now my motor
- 00:11:22here specifically is
- 00:11:24is a dc motor so i can come out and find
- 00:11:26what i want
- 00:11:27and then just hit select so now i'm
- 00:11:29ready to place this
- 00:11:31so electrical works on a snap
- 00:11:34so so as i move this along you can see
- 00:11:37we can snap
- 00:11:39our our symbols in place which allows us
- 00:11:42to draw
- 00:11:43the wire connections uh for that so if i
- 00:11:47just kind of zoom in here and and i can
- 00:11:50place this
- 00:11:51um symbol but with a left click you'll
- 00:11:53see that it
- 00:11:54uh brings me into my symbol properties
- 00:11:58so the first thing you'll notice is it
- 00:11:59automatically gets a root
- 00:12:01for the component name which is m in
- 00:12:04this case and then the first
- 00:12:05number available which is m1
- 00:12:09we can pick the location here um so
- 00:12:13you know here it it will uh put it on
- 00:12:15the drone body
- 00:12:17uh page but in this case we want to put
- 00:12:20it in the arm location
- 00:12:22uh and then we can go ahead and
- 00:12:25um assign a specific manufacturer's part
- 00:12:29so
- 00:12:29a lot of the symbols in electrical are
- 00:12:31very are are
- 00:12:33general uh in in
- 00:12:36the fact that we can you know we may use
- 00:12:39many we may use the same um
- 00:12:43uh symbol motor symbol for example in
- 00:12:46this case
- 00:12:47but it may represent many many different
- 00:12:50types of manufacturers parts so
- 00:12:54we we also have a library full of
- 00:12:55manufactured parts
- 00:12:57that we can customize that we can enter
- 00:12:59in so
- 00:13:00when we apply a general symbol we also
- 00:13:03want to
- 00:13:04signify which exact manufacturer part
- 00:13:08that is so
- 00:13:09i can search here as well um and again
- 00:13:12it
- 00:13:13it sort of starts filtering based on the
- 00:13:16symbol that i inserted so if i just hit
- 00:13:18search it
- 00:13:19it actually just gives me some a list of
- 00:13:22dc motors so in this case i want this
- 00:13:24one
- 00:13:24um and i can just hit add now over here
- 00:13:28um we see that that our our states are
- 00:13:31all green this
- 00:13:32this just means that the symbol that i
- 00:13:34used has the same
- 00:13:36type of circuit as our manufacturer part
- 00:13:38okay so there's a
- 00:13:40check here to make sure that the symbol
- 00:13:42you're using
- 00:13:43um matches you know that of the
- 00:13:45manufacturer's part so
- 00:13:46you know everything is green there so if
- 00:13:48i hit select
- 00:13:50and then okay it inserts that uh
- 00:13:53specific motor
- 00:13:55okay uh so
- 00:13:58so there again you can see if i just
- 00:14:00exit out of here you can see
- 00:14:02that i've got the manufacturer i have
- 00:14:03the route the manufacturer and then also
- 00:14:05a description here and then what my
- 00:14:08connection points are labeled so these
- 00:14:09red dots are connection points that will
- 00:14:11draw
- 00:14:12wires to and from uh one thing i
- 00:14:16actually forgot to do was uh set this
- 00:14:18uh actually to my arm location so that's
- 00:14:21uh so i'm gonna set this drawing sheet
- 00:14:24to the arm location
- 00:14:25um and then uh we'll just change
- 00:14:28the the location here so now you see
- 00:14:31that the location of this sheet is l2 so
- 00:14:33when i insert symbols now it will
- 00:14:36automatically put those symbols in that
- 00:14:38location for us
- 00:14:40all right so then i'm next going to do a
- 00:14:43insert
- 00:14:44an electronic speed controller so these
- 00:14:46are
- 00:14:47under our electronic component
- 00:14:49classification so if i hit okay there
- 00:14:51you'll see that i have this symbol
- 00:14:54that i've created so this is a custom
- 00:14:56symbol that i i created and it's
- 00:14:58it's uh specific you know to to
- 00:15:01our uh you know drone projects so
- 00:15:04um i can actually rotate that and
- 00:15:08just kind of put it in line with with
- 00:15:10our motor so we can draw
- 00:15:11you know nice straight wires for that so
- 00:15:13if i
- 00:15:14click there you can see that my route
- 00:15:18turns into e i want to actually
- 00:15:21edit that so i can call this esc for
- 00:15:24electronic speed controller
- 00:15:26and here now you notice that it it goes
- 00:15:28into that arm location automatically
- 00:15:32now again once we insert a symbol we
- 00:15:34want to assign a specific manufacturer's
- 00:15:36part so here you see these
- 00:15:38these speed controllers have you know a
- 00:15:40couple of circuits for power supply and
- 00:15:42then
- 00:15:43um circuits uh to connect to the motor
- 00:15:46essentially so if i do a search here now
- 00:15:50again it searches our manufacturer part
- 00:15:53library for any
- 00:15:55thing that's that has this uh motor
- 00:15:57classification
- 00:16:00so in this case i want to grab my
- 00:16:03speed controller and then i can you know
- 00:16:06add that to the symbol and there
- 00:16:08you see that it has our five different
- 00:16:10circuits with
- 00:16:11um you know three connection point uh
- 00:16:14two connection points per circuit here
- 00:16:16and then a single one for the power
- 00:16:18supply
- 00:16:19or uh two circuits for the power supply
- 00:16:22so if i hit select there
- 00:16:24and hit okay you can see again that that
- 00:16:26symbol
- 00:16:27um is brought in um and we get that
- 00:16:30that information with our connection
- 00:16:32points labeled
- 00:16:34uh and then next i'm gonna insert our
- 00:16:37power distribution board so this is
- 00:16:39something that
- 00:16:40um that distributes power to
- 00:16:44to each of our our motors um so i can
- 00:16:48you know drop this in here as well kind
- 00:16:50of keep it in line
- 00:16:52with our um with our
- 00:16:56uh speed controller circuits and then
- 00:17:00if i jump over to manufacturer sports
- 00:17:02notice that my
- 00:17:03my manufacturer part is already assigned
- 00:17:05so when you have
- 00:17:07uh part specific symbols like i do in
- 00:17:10this case i have this complex symbol
- 00:17:11with
- 00:17:12with a uh you know a complex list
- 00:17:15of of circuits we can actually take a
- 00:17:18symbol and assign
- 00:17:19uh pre-assign a manufacturer's part to
- 00:17:22that so there i
- 00:17:23that that's what i've done here so you
- 00:17:25can see that there's really no searching
- 00:17:27i need to do at this point
- 00:17:29so if i hit okay now you can see that
- 00:17:32we've got
- 00:17:34our distribution board in there as well
- 00:17:39okay so then the next thing i need to
- 00:17:41insert is
- 00:17:42is what we call the power module so this
- 00:17:44this basically
- 00:17:46um connects our distribution board to
- 00:17:49our battery
- 00:17:51so i can uh insert this
- 00:17:54and we'll call this one pm for power
- 00:17:57module
- 00:17:58and then click ok and there you see
- 00:18:02again that one had a component are
- 00:18:05already assigned to it so you see the
- 00:18:07information there
- 00:18:08and then lastly for this sheet we'll put
- 00:18:11in our
- 00:18:13battery so again i'm going to use just a
- 00:18:15general symbol so if i go to power
- 00:18:17supplies
- 00:18:19and you know choose choose a battery
- 00:18:22symbol
- 00:18:23we can we can do that and i'll just drop
- 00:18:25the battery
- 00:18:26you know over here somewhere to give me
- 00:18:28some space
- 00:18:30so in this case again i'm using a
- 00:18:32general symbol so
- 00:18:33i i want to assign a manufacturer's part
- 00:18:38and then if i search you can see i've
- 00:18:39got this lithium polymer battery that
- 00:18:42that has been created as well so i can
- 00:18:45hit okay there
- 00:18:47now again these symbols can have you
- 00:18:50know as much
- 00:18:51text as you want so as part of
- 00:18:54you know creating manufacturers parts we
- 00:18:56can include things like manufacturers
- 00:18:58and descriptions and
- 00:18:59and that sort of stuff and and we you
- 00:19:01know assign those attributes to our
- 00:19:03different
- 00:19:03um to our different symbols here
- 00:19:07uh so at this point i'm going to go
- 00:19:10ahead
- 00:19:11and start drawing some wires here
- 00:19:15[Music]
- 00:19:16excuse me actually before that we'll
- 00:19:18we'll actually create what we call
- 00:19:19location outline so
- 00:19:21recall that you know i set my location
- 00:19:23to
- 00:19:24uh to our our arm location but the power
- 00:19:28distribution power module and battery
- 00:19:30are actually located in a different
- 00:19:32location
- 00:19:33so i can create what's called the
- 00:19:34location outline
- 00:19:36that allows me to um you know
- 00:19:40signify where these are are located so
- 00:19:42if i just gather
- 00:19:44all of these into a location outline
- 00:19:46these all actually sit on my bottom
- 00:19:48plate
- 00:19:50sub location so when i select that
- 00:19:53it gives me a a message saying do you
- 00:19:56want to change those component locations
- 00:19:58so again i'm going to say yes
- 00:20:00and you know what that does is it takes
- 00:20:04it takes each component and actually
- 00:20:06moves them to
- 00:20:08that location when i when i do that so
- 00:20:10now if we kind of expand
- 00:20:11our components list you'll see that i
- 00:20:14have the motor and the electronic speed
- 00:20:16controller on my arm
- 00:20:18and then if i look at the location uh of
- 00:20:20the battery
- 00:20:21the the um the distribution board and
- 00:20:25the power module those are all located
- 00:20:27on a uh in the on the bottom plate there
- 00:20:34all right so then next we we will uh
- 00:20:38draw our wires here so first we'll we'll
- 00:20:41just draw some wires
- 00:20:42between the motor and the electronic
- 00:20:44speed controllers so
- 00:20:45there's a few different ways to do this
- 00:20:47one is to draw multiple wires
- 00:20:49and the other is to draw you know single
- 00:20:51wire so in this case
- 00:20:53i'm going to grab my
- 00:20:56my wires here we're going to use a 14
- 00:21:00gauge wire
- 00:21:02and notice that it's a grouping of three
- 00:21:03wires we have
- 00:21:05white black and red so i'm just going to
- 00:21:07select that wire style
- 00:21:09and and then i just
- 00:21:13click on this connection point and bring
- 00:21:14this across to the esc
- 00:21:16click again and there you see i've got
- 00:21:18my wires now in the middle here you see
- 00:21:21that the wire label automatically showed
- 00:21:23up
- 00:21:24when we when we number each for our
- 00:21:26wires we'll see that those boxes will
- 00:21:28get filled in
- 00:21:30the wire labels are fully customizable
- 00:21:32so we can have this
- 00:21:33kind of you know show us a color if we
- 00:21:35want in this case it's showing the gauge
- 00:21:38of each wire so that's why you see the
- 00:21:4014
- 00:21:41there uh and then
- 00:21:44we'll uh next add uh our
- 00:21:49uh wires that go to the distribution
- 00:21:53board
- 00:21:53so i'm gonna actually grab some 18 gauge
- 00:21:56wire for this
- 00:21:58and again it's it's just a white black
- 00:22:01red
- 00:22:02so i'm gonna bring this over here and
- 00:22:04and not quite connect it right now
- 00:22:08because i'm gonna actually create a
- 00:22:10macro because i need to make three more
- 00:22:12of these
- 00:22:12setups so i'll just show you how to
- 00:22:14create a macro here
- 00:22:16shortly and then lastly we're going to
- 00:22:20use um
- 00:22:23our power
- 00:22:26the 18 gauge power here
- 00:22:30and we can hit select
- 00:22:33and here we're just going to do our
- 00:22:35positive
- 00:22:36[Music]
- 00:22:38and our negative
- 00:22:42oh we want to invert that so i'm going
- 00:22:45to actually invert the phase so our
- 00:22:47our uh black is positive and and red is
- 00:22:50negative in this case okay
- 00:22:54so there we've got a uh
- 00:22:58you know basically the the components
- 00:23:00that go on the arm of the drone
- 00:23:02um so now what i want to do is uh create
- 00:23:05a
- 00:23:06um create a a macro for this so actually
- 00:23:09i've got this
- 00:23:10this one in here let me just delete this
- 00:23:12and and i'll show you how to recreate it
- 00:23:14so if i just box select everything here
- 00:23:18you see that it selects the
- 00:23:19the symbols and the and our wires and
- 00:23:23all i have to do is
- 00:23:24is drag and drop this into my
- 00:23:28[Music]
- 00:23:29into my macros window and then
- 00:23:33i can give it a name
- 00:23:37and we can hit okay so so once i do this
- 00:23:39you see that it gets stored up in my
- 00:23:41panel here
- 00:23:43and then i can sort of reuse this as
- 00:23:45needed so if i just drag and drop
- 00:23:47now um you can see that
- 00:23:50it it does this this paste special so
- 00:23:54when we paste in a macro there's some
- 00:23:57things that
- 00:23:58we may want to change so in this case uh
- 00:24:01you know the the stuff that's been
- 00:24:03assigned to these symbols and wires are
- 00:24:05our locations so we're going to just say
- 00:24:07keep the same location
- 00:24:09remove wire numbers we don't actually
- 00:24:11have any yet so that that doesn't matter
- 00:24:13um component we're actually going to
- 00:24:15create two new marks so we're going to
- 00:24:17get
- 00:24:18m2 in in esc 2 when i do this
- 00:24:21and then the wire styles we're just
- 00:24:22going to keep the same wire style so
- 00:24:25you know you can see that the location 2
- 00:24:28is associated
- 00:24:30and the the it would create
- 00:24:33new uh wire numbers again we don't have
- 00:24:36those yet
- 00:24:37the uh the location is associated and
- 00:24:40then
- 00:24:40um all of our wire styles are going to
- 00:24:42be the same so once i hit finish here
- 00:24:45you'll see what happens it actually
- 00:24:47created
- 00:24:48m2 and esc 2 and assign those
- 00:24:51manufacturer parts for us automatically
- 00:24:54[Music]
- 00:24:57actually i inserted that a little
- 00:25:01off-center so let me
- 00:25:02fix that
- 00:25:06i'm just going to move this over a notch
- 00:25:10okay and then i'll i'll
- 00:25:14next just kind of insert these these
- 00:25:16next ones here
- 00:25:19uh and i can just hit finish i don't
- 00:25:21need to go through that so now i have m3
- 00:25:23and esc3
- 00:25:24and then i'll grab this last one here
- 00:25:28and drop that into place all right so
- 00:25:32now we have everything um you know
- 00:25:35that's that's related to the arm there
- 00:25:37but now i need to make these connections
- 00:25:39so i'm gonna go ahead
- 00:25:41and just do a modify and stretch so
- 00:25:44what we want to do is is just stretch
- 00:25:47these these wires and make them connect
- 00:25:49so
- 00:25:50um we've got our points there and then i
- 00:25:52can just
- 00:25:54you know make that connection and now
- 00:25:56you see that the connection's there
- 00:25:57because my wire labels
- 00:25:59uh pop in there as well
- 00:26:02okay um and then we
- 00:26:05we also need to um finish off
- 00:26:09the the wires from the distribution
- 00:26:11board so we're gonna go ahead
- 00:26:13and draw um just some single wires in
- 00:26:16here so i'm gonna
- 00:26:17first do a green wire and i can bring
- 00:26:20that out
- 00:26:21and i'm not going to connect it to
- 00:26:22anything right now so we'll do green
- 00:26:25and then orange white and yellow
- 00:26:28so i'll grab orange for these next
- 00:26:31[Music]
- 00:26:36connections
- 00:26:40and
- 00:26:44yellow here
- 00:26:48and then we'll also
- 00:26:50[Music]
- 00:26:51bring in our power wires so
- 00:26:54um this time we're gonna do
- 00:26:58the 18 gauge power
- 00:27:01[Music]
- 00:27:04and
- 00:27:09there we've got that okay
- 00:27:12so now we are ready to
- 00:27:16um connect the the power from the power
- 00:27:20module to the
- 00:27:22power distribution board so again we'll
- 00:27:24use for
- 00:27:25for this one we're going to use our 13
- 00:27:27gauge wires
- 00:27:29and then i can you know now draw this in
- 00:27:32here
- 00:27:37make sure i turn turn this one on so
- 00:27:40we've got that
- 00:27:42and then i actually to make sure my plus
- 00:27:45goes to plus i need to just hit the
- 00:27:46space spacebar and actually invert these
- 00:27:48so
- 00:27:50these connect up to the symbol the way
- 00:27:52we want it to
- 00:27:55and then we'll do the same thing down
- 00:27:57here for
- 00:27:58our to connect this to the battery
- 00:28:02so in this case i'm just going to draw
- 00:28:04the the red wire first
- 00:28:10and then we can draw in the black wire
- 00:28:13so i'm just going to pick the black wire
- 00:28:14from this grouping
- 00:28:20okay now
- 00:28:23you'll notice that when i do this again
- 00:28:26some of these segments get the the label
- 00:28:28and perhaps i don't
- 00:28:30want it on these short segments so i'm
- 00:28:31i'm able to actually
- 00:28:33um kind of multi-select these and then
- 00:28:36just right-click and
- 00:28:37say hide wire labels so we can you know
- 00:28:40hide those where
- 00:28:41where we don't want them and then
- 00:28:45next we will create
- 00:28:48uh create the power module we're going
- 00:28:51to run this out to the
- 00:28:53flight controller eventually so i'm
- 00:28:55going to grab
- 00:28:56um uh we're gonna grab this
- 00:29:00um this grouping here and i'm gonna
- 00:29:05actually change
- 00:29:06change the spacing to 0.75
- 00:29:09so when i do that you'll see that the uh
- 00:29:14that the um
- 00:29:17the the wires are then
- 00:29:21um split a little bit further so they
- 00:29:24they go down to the next connection
- 00:29:26point and then lastly we're going to do
- 00:29:28a couple of control wires so i'm going
- 00:29:30to do
- 00:29:31a black wire now when i choose a single
- 00:29:33wire
- 00:29:35when when we call a draw single wire
- 00:29:37that means draw a single wire style we
- 00:29:39can actually draw
- 00:29:40multiple of these at the same time
- 00:29:44and so when i have it selected as two
- 00:29:46you see that those black wires come in
- 00:29:48there as well
- 00:29:50or i i can draw those two at the same
- 00:29:53time
- 00:29:57so at this point i'll go ahead and just
- 00:29:58number the wires just to kind of see
- 00:30:00what that process is so all i need to do
- 00:30:02is click
- 00:30:03number new wires and then i hit ok
- 00:30:06and you see that now it's numbered these
- 00:30:09wires
- 00:30:10again we can have more complex numbering
- 00:30:12than this we
- 00:30:13you know here i just have a simple one
- 00:30:15two three four
- 00:30:16uh we could we could uh put in equations
- 00:30:20that include the rows and columns if
- 00:30:22we have our project set up that way but
- 00:30:25in this case
- 00:30:26you know it's just going uh left to
- 00:30:28right and then top to bottom so
- 00:30:30you see here one and two and then it
- 00:30:32goes down a row three four
- 00:30:34five six seven eight um and then it goes
- 00:30:37to nine
- 00:30:37ten so as we work our way through this
- 00:30:40you see that everything that's connected
- 00:30:42to something has a wire number
- 00:30:44now these these uh wires here kind of on
- 00:30:46the right side aren't connected to
- 00:30:48anything yet so
- 00:30:50we need to do that or create the
- 00:30:53second schematic and then we'll we'll
- 00:30:54bring those across
- 00:30:56so i'm going to go ahead and create a
- 00:30:57new schematic
- 00:31:01and then i can open that up
- 00:31:04and then i will uh add the properties
- 00:31:07here so this is going to be our drone
- 00:31:09body
- 00:31:10uh and then i can give this uh
- 00:31:13a description so this will
- 00:31:21i'll just call this flight controller or
- 00:31:23autopilot
- 00:31:29and i can click ok so that changes
- 00:31:32uh or that gives our our drawing a name
- 00:31:36um so now i'm gonna insert the symbols
- 00:31:37for this and
- 00:31:39this uh again are some pretty custom
- 00:31:42symbols so when i go to my schematic
- 00:31:44here i'm going to find
- 00:31:46the different symbols that i need so
- 00:31:48again these are under electronic
- 00:31:50components
- 00:31:51and there there's a few different things
- 00:31:54i want to want to put in here
- 00:31:56so the first is our autopilot we'll
- 00:31:59rotate that
- 00:32:01and i can just sort of place that you
- 00:32:04know somewhere
- 00:32:05[Music]
- 00:32:07down here just kind of knowing what i
- 00:32:08need to bring in there so
- 00:32:11we can call this fc for flight
- 00:32:14controller
- 00:32:16and again the manufacturer part is is
- 00:32:18already assigned because
- 00:32:20this is a pretty custom symbol uh
- 00:32:23and then next we're gonna put in the uh
- 00:32:27the rc receiver so i can grab that
- 00:32:30symbol
- 00:32:31um orient that the right way
- 00:32:34and we can drop this um
- 00:32:37into place and i'm going to leave a lot
- 00:32:39of room here because some of these
- 00:32:41these wearers get
- 00:32:46they we get a lot of crossing going on
- 00:32:48so i'm just going to leave myself some
- 00:32:50room so
- 00:32:51there if i give it a name again the
- 00:32:54manufacturer part is already
- 00:32:56signed because i've done that in the
- 00:32:57symbol so there we we've got that
- 00:33:00and then lastly i'm going to insert my
- 00:33:02gps symbol
- 00:33:04um which is again under
- 00:33:08uh is under my
- 00:33:11my sensors here so i'll bring that over
- 00:33:14and then again i'll just give it some
- 00:33:16space here
- 00:33:18and place that so i can give this a name
- 00:33:22and you know we we can see our
- 00:33:25our manufacturer part once again is
- 00:33:28assigned there
- 00:33:29okay so
- 00:33:33you know at this point i i'm going to
- 00:33:35draw in the remaining wires so the
- 00:33:38first thing uh i'm going to do is is
- 00:33:41bring in
- 00:33:42my wires from our uh
- 00:33:46our previous sheet so i can just draw
- 00:33:48those out
- 00:33:50and then we'll draw this single wire
- 00:33:52style
- 00:33:53i'll do my black wires and then
- 00:33:57the colored wires connect to our outputs
- 00:34:00down here so
- 00:34:02i'll go ahead and uh
- 00:34:05bring those in here so those are
- 00:34:09going to be our 18 gauge single wire
- 00:34:12so we'll grab first we'll do
- 00:34:16our yellow wire
- 00:34:23and that goes to our four row
- 00:34:27got to make sure i bring this back down
- 00:34:31to a single wire
- 00:34:33and then that's going to go to that
- 00:34:35circuit
- 00:34:36and then we'll do
- 00:34:39our white wire
- 00:34:50and then orange
- 00:34:56and finally the green wire
- 00:35:05okay and then over here where the power
- 00:35:09um where the power is controlled we'll
- 00:35:12bring in our 18 gauge
- 00:35:17um 18 gauge wire so there i've got
- 00:35:25did it again got to make sure i change
- 00:35:27this back to the 0.25 spacing
- 00:35:31and we can
- 00:35:34pull this down
- 00:35:37and then lastly uh
- 00:35:44we'll bring these across
- 00:35:49and then our black wire
- 00:35:57okay so those are now connected so now
- 00:36:00we just need to um connect these to our
- 00:36:03receiver so this is where we can kind of
- 00:36:05get
- 00:36:06um you know a little bit more complex so
- 00:36:09um the first thing i'm going to do is
- 00:36:11run my power once again
- 00:36:14i'll put a spacing of 0.25 and
- 00:36:18we can grab our power from here
- 00:36:25and then if i click i can kind of do a
- 00:36:2790 degree
- 00:36:28and then click again to uh
- 00:36:31get that drawn and then we'll do our
- 00:36:34single wires so first we're going to
- 00:36:35have a red wire
- 00:36:38going from our second
- 00:36:41channel here and this goes all the way
- 00:36:43over to
- 00:36:52our os3 or sorry our is3
- 00:36:59okay and next we'll do
- 00:37:06green
- 00:37:12this goes all the way over here
- 00:37:19and we've got yellow
- 00:37:40blue and orange so we'll do the blue one
- 00:37:46this actually goes straight down and
- 00:37:52orange we'll go from here
- 00:38:03to our
- 00:38:06fifth input all right
- 00:38:09so uh there again you know we
- 00:38:12we have some segments that we you know
- 00:38:16can kind of overlap here so i'm actually
- 00:38:17going
- 00:38:18to hide the wire label there we'll hide
- 00:38:21the wire label here
- 00:38:23and i can put those on you know our
- 00:38:25different segments
- 00:38:27so we don't see all that crossing going
- 00:38:30on
- 00:38:33and i'll remove this one as well
- 00:38:42okay now if we if we want to move these
- 00:38:45around we certainly can do that
- 00:38:47by just clicking and dragging those it
- 00:38:49it by default we'll put them on
- 00:38:51um it will by default put them on the
- 00:38:55um center of of the segments that they
- 00:38:58show up on
- 00:38:59so that is something we can change as
- 00:39:02well
- 00:39:04okay so then the next thing we want to
- 00:39:07do remember we need to connect these
- 00:39:09back to our wires
- 00:39:10on the previous document so what i'm
- 00:39:13going to do is create
- 00:39:14origin destination arrows for this so
- 00:39:16when i come into my origin destination
- 00:39:18you see that it puts
- 00:39:20you know whatever sheets we're going to
- 00:39:21work with side by side
- 00:39:23and then i can say single insertion so
- 00:39:26notice that these the ends of these
- 00:39:28wires i get this green dot that i can
- 00:39:30select so this
- 00:39:31this only works for any wires that are
- 00:39:33you know not drawn to anything
- 00:39:36so then when i pick this green wire it's
- 00:39:38going to come over on the second sheet
- 00:39:39and notice i cannot pick
- 00:39:40any other wire styles okay so here
- 00:39:44we're going to do green to green and
- 00:39:46then here we'll do orange to orange
- 00:39:50and then the white to white
- 00:39:56yellow t yellow
- 00:39:59black to black and
- 00:40:03red and then
- 00:40:06down here same thing
- 00:40:11now because these two wires are the same
- 00:40:14this is one where you have to kind of be
- 00:40:16careful these are just black control
- 00:40:18wires so
- 00:40:19you know i want to make sure i pick the
- 00:40:20proper one here
- 00:40:23so there you see i'm i'm kind of done
- 00:40:25and everything
- 00:40:26oops it's closed down electrical let me
- 00:40:29bring that back up
- 00:40:33so maybe it's good that i did that so
- 00:40:36one of the nice things is
- 00:40:38is notice i've never saved this that's
- 00:40:41the beauty of
- 00:40:42sql so as you make things even if you
- 00:40:45accidentally close it there was no
- 00:40:46saving that needed to be done
- 00:40:49it actually saved everything that that
- 00:40:51i've done known as my the last thing i
- 00:40:53did here was the origin destination
- 00:40:55arrows
- 00:40:55so maybe that's a good thing that that
- 00:40:57happened to me uh
- 00:41:00so one of the nice things as well is
- 00:41:02these
- 00:41:03origin destination arrows are smart so
- 00:41:05it actually
- 00:41:06um it there is an equation set up
- 00:41:09basically saying that this is
- 00:41:11on sheet one and then um on
- 00:41:14row 10 okay now if i right click on
- 00:41:18on this you can actually say go to the
- 00:41:20origin arrow
- 00:41:22and when i do that notice it actually
- 00:41:24brings me over to sheet 1
- 00:41:25and zooms me in on that exact
- 00:41:28location you know if i
- 00:41:32if i go here and say go to destination
- 00:41:35arrow
- 00:41:35it will zoom me into the yellow wire
- 00:41:37where that's connected okay
- 00:41:39so you you see that those are kind of
- 00:41:41smart arrows and
- 00:41:42and allows us to navigate uh
- 00:41:46navigate the uh the project
- 00:41:51um so now i need to number wires again
- 00:41:54and i can go ahead and
- 00:41:57you know renumber these wires and there
- 00:42:00you see we get
- 00:42:02you know our additional lawyers that
- 00:42:03that haven't been numbered yet
- 00:42:06and you'll even see if i go back to my
- 00:42:08first drawing here that these now have
- 00:42:10their numbers as well
- 00:42:13okay um
- 00:42:18so then the next thing uh for this we
- 00:42:20can we can again use our location
- 00:42:23outlines to
- 00:42:24uh you know represent where these
- 00:42:26different components are so
- 00:42:28if i drop in the location outline for
- 00:42:32the receiver this is actually on my
- 00:42:34bottom
- 00:42:35plate so i can select that and then
- 00:42:37change the component location
- 00:42:39the gps is going to be on the top plate
- 00:42:45so i can set that up grab my top plate
- 00:42:50and change the component location and
- 00:42:52then the flight controller is actually
- 00:42:53on the middle plate
- 00:42:57so we can grab that we just want to make
- 00:43:00sure we grab
- 00:43:02a full symbol to get that uh moved
- 00:43:06and then that's on the middle plate and
- 00:43:08then we can change
- 00:43:09all right so here again we've got you
- 00:43:12know kind of some overlap so i can clean
- 00:43:13that up and just kind of move that over
- 00:43:16so you know the the the different colors
- 00:43:18that we have representing this can
- 00:43:20can be changed so like our location
- 00:43:22outlines
- 00:43:23you know our specific color they're dark
- 00:43:25purple i could change this text to dark
- 00:43:27purple as well to kind of keep that a
- 00:43:29little bit more organized
- 00:43:33so now if i jump back over to my
- 00:43:35components now you see that
- 00:43:37the specific components got moved to
- 00:43:40their
- 00:43:41correct locations so at the arm we have
- 00:43:43our
- 00:43:44speed controllers and motors on the top
- 00:43:46plate we have the gps
- 00:43:48on the middle plate we have our flight
- 00:43:49controller or autopilot and then at the
- 00:43:51bottom plate we've got
- 00:43:53our power and then also the receiver
- 00:43:56on that bottom plate
- 00:44:02all right so now we actually need to
- 00:44:05add some additional components to our
- 00:44:08bill of material that aren't going to be
- 00:44:09represented by symbols so
- 00:44:11um there's actually some quick
- 00:44:13disconnects between the uh
- 00:44:15the esc's and the motors so
- 00:44:18you know if we need to change these out
- 00:44:20there's actually some bullet connectors
- 00:44:22there so what i can do is actually
- 00:44:25i can add just i can
- 00:44:28add a component manufacturer part
- 00:44:32to this and this and then if i just hit
- 00:44:34search it will find my generic connector
- 00:44:36so i want a bullet connector
- 00:44:38and i want 12 of these so three for each
- 00:44:42motor
- 00:44:43and we can just hit ok
- 00:44:46and so there you see that it it has
- 00:44:50those 12 connectors out at the arm
- 00:44:51location
- 00:44:52and then also on the uh the power
- 00:44:55distribution board there's actually some
- 00:44:57generic connectors that get soldered on
- 00:44:59there that that we'd need to order
- 00:45:02so i can um i can actually
- 00:45:05add you know another
- 00:45:08manufacturer's part here and
- 00:45:11we're gonna have four of these
- 00:45:15okay so so now you see our bill of
- 00:45:19material
- 00:45:20includes these additional connectors um
- 00:45:22in their proper locations but there's no
- 00:45:24symbolic representation for those um
- 00:45:29so that's that's how we can kind of
- 00:45:31control the bill of material
- 00:45:34uh so then the last thing or the last
- 00:45:37sheet we want to make
- 00:45:38is our wiring line diagram so these are
- 00:45:43um these are actually uh you know more
- 00:45:46general we don't have individual
- 00:45:48connections you can be a little bit more
- 00:45:50uh you know you can you can draw these
- 00:45:53things more in a
- 00:45:55pictorial way so in this case we're
- 00:45:58gonna do you know
- 00:46:00just call this drone overview or
- 00:46:02something like that
- 00:46:06and we'll keep the location at the drone
- 00:46:08body so
- 00:46:09now we have our
- 00:46:13our sheet and then i'm going to insert
- 00:46:16specific symbols so you know with with
- 00:46:19these single line diagrams um
- 00:46:23you know we we have some different
- 00:46:24symbols that we can use
- 00:46:27and
- 00:46:30yeah my motors here so i can just insert
- 00:46:33this
- 00:46:34now when i insert that what it wants to
- 00:46:37do is create
- 00:46:38you know a new mark now because i've
- 00:46:41already have
- 00:46:42this motor one in here this is just an
- 00:46:45another representation of the same
- 00:46:47component so i can just grab
- 00:46:49uh m1 here and you see you know this
- 00:46:52this symbol is going to
- 00:46:53you know be represented you know in two
- 00:46:57places on the schematic and then also in
- 00:46:59the single line diagram
- 00:47:00so we can insert that one uh and then i
- 00:47:04can
- 00:47:04insert the second one and then the third
- 00:47:08one here
- 00:47:13then our fourth one as well
- 00:47:20okay and then we'll next do our speed
- 00:47:23controllers
- 00:47:27now again these these symbols can be
- 00:47:31you know you can
- 00:47:35you can edit these to give you more
- 00:47:37information if you want
- 00:47:39or we can you know have just some
- 00:47:42simple text simple description in there
- 00:47:46as well so there's three and then we'll
- 00:47:48add
- 00:47:49four here
- 00:47:53okay so then next um the next logical
- 00:47:57uh thing we should insert is our power
- 00:47:58distribution board
- 00:48:00uh so we can uh
- 00:48:03you know place that here and again
- 00:48:06that's on my bottom plate
- 00:48:08so we'll grab that component and then
- 00:48:11if you recall this is connected to our
- 00:48:14power module
- 00:48:19i'll just move that over here which is
- 00:48:25and then this is connected to the
- 00:48:28battery
- 00:48:29so that's under power supplies
- 00:48:34and then we've got it's also on the
- 00:48:38bottom plate
- 00:48:41and then we're going to do our flight
- 00:48:46controller
- 00:48:49which is on the middle plate
- 00:48:56and then we'll just lastly do the
- 00:48:57receiver and the gps so i can grab the
- 00:49:00gps first put that here
- 00:49:04that's on our top plate
- 00:49:08and then the receiver
- 00:49:12okay so you can see that you know these
- 00:49:14symbols are
- 00:49:16um you know more
- 00:49:19pictorial representations of of what we
- 00:49:22actually have
- 00:49:23um and and we can you know draw the
- 00:49:26the connections between the two so
- 00:49:28because we have this done on the
- 00:49:30schematic
- 00:49:31if i go and draw a cable notice there's
- 00:49:33no connection points i need to hit when
- 00:49:35i
- 00:49:35when i go into a symbol it just gives me
- 00:49:38that green square there
- 00:49:40and then i can connect it to the esc
- 00:49:43now if i double click on this line
- 00:49:45notice that it knows that there's three
- 00:49:47wires one three and five and those are
- 00:49:51you know connected uh to our
- 00:49:54our uh the correct components
- 00:49:57so if we go back to this
- 00:50:00you know one three and five we're going
- 00:50:03from m1 to esc one so because i've
- 00:50:05already done that these
- 00:50:07pretty much the work here has been done
- 00:50:10so we can still get that information
- 00:50:15between the two so those all connect
- 00:50:17there and then these all come into the
- 00:50:18power distribution board
- 00:50:36and then the distribution board goes to
- 00:50:38the module
- 00:50:41module goes to the battery
- 00:50:46distribution board goes to the flight
- 00:50:48controller
- 00:50:52and then the power module also goes into
- 00:50:55the flight controller
- 00:50:58receiver and lastly the gps
- 00:51:03so everything kind of leads back to the
- 00:51:05flight controller pretty much
- 00:51:07uh so again if i just double click on
- 00:51:10one of these wires we can actually see
- 00:51:11you know what's coming from the
- 00:51:12distribution board and what
- 00:51:15pin is it actually connected to on the
- 00:51:16flight controller so you see that these
- 00:51:18pins are also labeled
- 00:51:20based on the circuit that we had
- 00:51:24you know set up already in the schematic
- 00:51:26so those are
- 00:51:27you know these these pins here coming
- 00:51:29from the
- 00:51:30the distribution uh module
- 00:51:34if you recall
- 00:51:37so that's um you know a quick way to
- 00:51:41to sort of lay out your your projects
- 00:51:43and
- 00:51:44um you know once once we do all this
- 00:51:47again that this
- 00:51:48this is completely optional this is just
- 00:51:51gives you another type of drawing
- 00:51:53um the schematics kind of control a lot
- 00:51:55of the smarts whereas this
- 00:51:56is more of an overview of of what you
- 00:51:58have going on
- 00:52:00um and just kind of showing that you
- 00:52:02know if we reuse a
- 00:52:04component or if we have multiple
- 00:52:05representations of a component
- 00:52:08we can actually have
- 00:52:11have these on different sheets so here
- 00:52:12again motor one if i just right click
- 00:52:15and say go to
- 00:52:16it will zoom me in on motor 1. if i
- 00:52:18right click here and say go to
- 00:52:20it will zoom in on motor 1 on the
- 00:52:22overview so each component
- 00:52:25you know you can kind of expand those
- 00:52:27out and see
- 00:52:28all of the symbolic representations but
- 00:52:31they're all
- 00:52:32uh representing the same component now
- 00:52:35notice our
- 00:52:36those connectors that we just added to
- 00:52:38the bill of material don't have anything
- 00:52:41associated they don't have any symbols
- 00:52:43associated with them
- 00:52:44and it's because we just want to include
- 00:52:46those on our reports
- 00:52:47so that brings us into the reports
- 00:52:51now reports we can have you know many
- 00:52:53many different types of reports
- 00:52:55here i just i'm going to have a bill of
- 00:52:57material and a wireless
- 00:52:59we can do things like harnesses and
- 00:53:02do plc's and things like that but these
- 00:53:06these are customizable as well
- 00:53:10so if i just come into one of these and
- 00:53:12go to the properties you can see
- 00:53:14i can add you know different columns
- 00:53:17from this list so remember this all goes
- 00:53:19back to
- 00:53:20you know what what information do we
- 00:53:22want and
- 00:53:24and what text boxes do i need to fill in
- 00:53:26when i'm creating a
- 00:53:28manufacturer's part or when i'm creating
- 00:53:30a symbol
- 00:53:31when i created my project we saw all
- 00:53:33those text boxes for
- 00:53:34the information that we want and these
- 00:53:36all get mapped
- 00:53:38to these smart reports so
- 00:53:42um here if we just look at our bill of
- 00:53:44material you'll see that
- 00:53:46um here it's got the the reference or or
- 00:53:50the like the part number or the part
- 00:53:53name
- 00:53:54and then the mark that it was given in
- 00:53:56our project
- 00:53:57and then a description of that and then
- 00:53:59lastly the the quantity
- 00:54:01and then our list of wires by by uh
- 00:54:05line style so this this will actually um
- 00:54:09show us the origin and destination of
- 00:54:11wire number one so remember that went
- 00:54:12from
- 00:54:13motor one the w circuit to the esc one
- 00:54:17the w circuit as well it tells what our
- 00:54:21wire style is here and then the length
- 00:54:25uh we we don't have anything filled in
- 00:54:27for the length for each of the wires we
- 00:54:28can fill in a length
- 00:54:30now if you have solidworks in solidworks
- 00:54:32electrical 3d
- 00:54:33if we use the automatic routing
- 00:54:35capability with that it automatically
- 00:54:37calculates where links
- 00:54:39but we you know when we only have the 2d
- 00:54:42schematic if we want wire length
- 00:54:45we do have to manually enter that and
- 00:54:47then lastly this is just our drawing
- 00:54:49list
- 00:54:51where you can see we've we've got those
- 00:54:53things so now what i want to do is
- 00:54:55actually generate the drawing so when i
- 00:54:57uh choose all those to generate what it
- 00:54:59will actually do is is give me a drawing
- 00:55:02of
- 00:55:02of each of these reports that i have
- 00:55:09so when we're looking in the report
- 00:55:11window you can see
- 00:55:13you know we can manipulate this stuff
- 00:55:14and look at it so now
- 00:55:16you see that the drawing list actually
- 00:55:18got um you know
- 00:55:19a lot longer so if i hit ok here now and
- 00:55:22go to my drawing sheets
- 00:55:24you can see if i look at a build
- 00:55:26material sheet notice
- 00:55:28our this this report actually generates
- 00:55:30a sheet that's broken out by
- 00:55:33manufacturer so you see that these are
- 00:55:36grouped together by the different
- 00:55:37manufacturers that i'm using
- 00:55:40for example the the bullet and the
- 00:55:42dean's connector these are
- 00:55:44these are shown the different marks for
- 00:55:46those the description
- 00:55:48the quantity uh and then because this
- 00:55:51list is a little bit longer to fit on
- 00:55:52one sheet it automatically knows to
- 00:55:54create a second sheet
- 00:55:56uh and then the same with the the wires
- 00:55:59okay so
- 00:56:00here these are split out by the wire
- 00:56:03style that i used
- 00:56:05so here you can see origin destination
- 00:56:07what the wire number is
- 00:56:09the section and then again length if we
- 00:56:11had
- 00:56:12those included it would give us the
- 00:56:13length of each wire and then the overall
- 00:56:15length
- 00:56:16for you know those those wire styles
- 00:56:20so here you can just kind of see that
- 00:56:22you know the number of different wires
- 00:56:24that i had was a lot longer so
- 00:56:26you can kind of see that these tables
- 00:56:28are
- 00:56:30moved on to the next sheet and then the
- 00:56:31last thing is our drawings list
- 00:56:33you know this this actually kind of
- 00:56:35gives me the table of contents so
- 00:56:37uh you can see that we've got our
- 00:56:40different drawings here and if you want
- 00:56:42to change the order of this you you
- 00:56:43certainly can do that
- 00:56:45i could you know maybe move the
- 00:56:48drawings list here to the front and
- 00:56:51then i can simply just renumber
- 00:56:54the documents for this and just say
- 00:56:57recalculate so now
- 00:57:00you know we've got one two three four so
- 00:57:03those now go in the correct order
- 00:57:09all right and then the last thing i just
- 00:57:11want to do here is
- 00:57:12is export um this to a pdf document just
- 00:57:15to show
- 00:57:16you know what we can do with that so i'm
- 00:57:18going to put this on a 11 by 17
- 00:57:20sheet and we can give this a name
- 00:57:25drone demo and i can save that out
- 00:57:29and we'll just hit export so when we
- 00:57:32export this
- 00:57:33it will create a pdf of all of our uh
- 00:57:37sheets and when i open this in adobe
- 00:57:40you can see that um you know we can view
- 00:57:44this with thumbnails
- 00:57:45or there's also these bookmarks here
- 00:57:47that allow me to
- 00:57:49kind of pick what i want um
- 00:57:52for this now there's also a components
- 00:57:55list
- 00:57:56that is is real nice because we can
- 00:58:00also click on these from the list so
- 00:58:03here i've clicked on the battery
- 00:58:05the schematic representation but i can
- 00:58:07also click here and it has a hyperlink
- 00:58:10to
- 00:58:10the different locations so it will
- 00:58:12automatically zoom you in on those
- 00:58:16those documents and also if we click
- 00:58:19on the pdb for example this symbol
- 00:58:23it will actually zoom us in onto the
- 00:58:25other representation of it so the
- 00:58:27the uh pdf documents are actually smart
- 00:58:31in that fashion where we can
- 00:58:33you know use either the bookmarks here
- 00:58:36or we can actually just click on the
- 00:58:38symbols to see other representations
- 00:58:40also the origin destination arrows do
- 00:58:43the same thing
- 00:58:44if we click on those it will bring us
- 00:58:46back and forth
- 00:58:47through the origin destination arrows
