- 00:01:20this is the you know why you should
- 00:01:22listen slide so i've been a fiber seller
- 00:01:24myself for just over three years and
- 00:01:27i've been a fiver seller since this year
- 00:01:29i've been a fiver pro seller in the
- 00:01:31email copy category since 2021
- 00:01:34i've made over sixty thousand dollars in
- 00:01:36earnings as a copywriter on fiverr and
- 00:01:38that's sixty thousand dollars as a
- 00:01:40part-time gig so i think that's pretty
- 00:01:41good i've been a content creator for two
- 00:01:44plus years i make videos on this youtube
- 00:01:46channel i have a blog i have a
- 00:01:48newsletter i have a discord server
- 00:01:50basically i've been going all in on
- 00:01:52creating content to help other people
- 00:01:54get started as freelancers
- 00:01:57and then you know my background in my
- 00:01:59work life is that i have over nine years
- 00:02:01of sales experience
- 00:02:03in tech or software companies software
- 00:02:05as a service companies i've worked for
- 00:02:07startups i've worked for fortune 500
- 00:02:09companies and i've worked for mid-market
- 00:02:12companies doing all sorts of sales so
- 00:02:14that's kind of where i'm coming to
- 00:02:16copywriting from i have a really you
- 00:02:18know i would say nine years is a pretty
- 00:02:20decent amount of time as a background in
- 00:02:22sales so two important things to note
- 00:02:24before we get into the course i'm a big
- 00:02:27believer that anyone can succeed as a
- 00:02:30freelancer as long as they're determined
- 00:02:32work hard focus on providing value and
- 00:02:35are always looking to learn and improve
- 00:02:37okay that's number one
- 00:02:39but i'm an even bigger believer that
- 00:02:42value is number one it's paramount and
- 00:02:45should be top of mind in every client or
- 00:02:48business interaction so keep that in
- 00:02:50mind as we go through this course
- 00:02:52and this is just a snapshot of my fiverr
- 00:02:54analytics for any of you who don't know
- 00:02:56me or new to the channel and are
- 00:02:58skeptical that i'm just blowing smoke
- 00:03:00this is my fiverr analytics i'm actually
- 00:03:02closer to 61 000 of total revenue since
- 00:03:05making this video uh in october 2021 and
- 00:03:08i've completed about 660 orders which is
- 00:03:12crazy to think all right so course
- 00:03:14breakdown so i broke this course down
- 00:03:16into six parts and i think that i've
- 00:03:18laid these parts out that if you go
- 00:03:20through each part in order and complete
- 00:03:22the practice activities in each part in
- 00:03:25sequence you should be
- 00:03:27left off pretty pretty solidly at the
- 00:03:29end so part one we're going to cover the
- 00:03:30question that a lot of you have what is
- 00:03:32copywriting part two we're gonna talk
- 00:03:35about how to build a foundation for
- 00:03:37copywriting this is very important
- 00:03:39part three we're gonna learn the basics
- 00:03:42part four we're going to get you to the
- 00:03:44point where you're actually writing your
- 00:03:46first pieces of copy and i think that'll
- 00:03:48be pretty cool experience
- 00:03:50part five we're gonna work on building
- 00:03:52your portfolio and how to build your
- 00:03:54portfolio and part six probably the part
- 00:03:57you guys are all most excited about is
- 00:03:58how to get your first customer as a
- 00:04:00copywriter so these are the six parts of
- 00:04:03the course i think it's important you go
- 00:04:05through them in order you know i've
- 00:04:06taken a lot of time to ordering them in
- 00:04:08a way that i think will be most helpful
- 00:04:10for you so let's get into the course
- 00:04:13alright so part one what is copywriting
- 00:04:16so this is the dictionary definition of
- 00:04:18copywriting as a starting place so
- 00:04:21copywriting is the activity or
- 00:04:22occupation of writing the text of
- 00:04:25advertisements or publicity materials
- 00:04:28okay here's my definition of copywriting
- 00:04:30i think it might be a little easier to
- 00:04:31understand copywriting is the act of
- 00:04:33writing something intended to help
- 00:04:35directly or indirectly advertise or sell
- 00:04:39something
- 00:04:40you tell me which one makes more sense
- 00:04:41but i think that this one is easier to
- 00:04:43understand for fiverr sellers who are
- 00:04:45new to the whole world of copywriting so
- 00:04:47here are some examples of what
- 00:04:48copywriting can be website copy sales
- 00:04:51page copy landing pages flyers brochures
- 00:04:55sales emails marketing emails blog posts
- 00:04:58product descriptions service
- 00:04:59descriptions ebooks lead magnet magnets
- 00:05:02youtube descriptions the list goes on
- 00:05:04but if you're new to copywriting this is
- 00:05:07what it is and these are some of the
- 00:05:08things you can sell as a copywriter so
- 00:05:11another important thing to cover when
- 00:05:13you're getting into the world of selling
- 00:05:15copywriting services is it's important
- 00:05:17to understand the reasons why people
- 00:05:20hire copywriters because as a copywriter
- 00:05:23you'll be targeting these reasons and
- 00:05:25leveraging them to win business and make
- 00:05:27money for yourself
- 00:05:29so the first category here is people buy
- 00:05:32copywriting services to provide business
- 00:05:35gains to their company things like
- 00:05:37increasing their sales revenue
- 00:05:39generating more leads building a loyal
- 00:05:41following on social media or anywhere
- 00:05:43else strengthening their brand launching
- 00:05:46new products
- 00:05:47maybe branching out and starting to make
- 00:05:49money online for the first time or
- 00:05:51creating new revenue streams for their
- 00:05:53business
- 00:05:54the other set of reasons why people hire
- 00:05:56copywriters is to solve pains that
- 00:05:59they're currently experiencing in their
- 00:06:00business things like saving the time it
- 00:06:03would take them to do the copywriting
- 00:06:05themselves or saving the money that it
- 00:06:08would take to hire a full-time employee
- 00:06:10versus just hiring a freelance
- 00:06:11copywriter
- 00:06:13they might want to better connect with
- 00:06:15clients and potential clients by
- 00:06:17speaking to their wants and needs better
- 00:06:19and this is somewhere a copywriter can
- 00:06:20really help
- 00:06:22and hiring a copywriter might help them
- 00:06:24eliminate any ambiguity they currently
- 00:06:26have in their business which i find is
- 00:06:28pretty common for a lot of new startups
- 00:06:30so these are the reasons the pains and
- 00:06:32the gains reasons why people might hire
- 00:06:35a copywriter i know this concept might
- 00:06:38be new to a lot of you thinking about
- 00:06:39what a business is gained or is looking
- 00:06:41to gain or what their pains they're
- 00:06:43experiencing are but if you have these
- 00:06:45in the back of your mind these are tools
- 00:06:48you can use to help convey and
- 00:06:51communicate why you can help them in a
- 00:06:53way that will get them to buy if you can
- 00:06:55prove to a client that you can give them
- 00:06:57a business gain or help remedy a
- 00:07:00business pain they're experiencing
- 00:07:02they're gonna be more likely to hire you
- 00:07:04than if you were to just say i'm a
- 00:07:06copywriter all right so moving into part
- 00:07:08two which is building a foundation for
- 00:07:10copywriting so i mentioned that this is
- 00:07:12really important and it is so the first
- 00:07:15thing you got to do that's me sitting on
- 00:07:17my couch reading a book
- 00:07:20reading helps you write
- 00:07:23i know it sounds crazy and i've
- 00:07:24mentioned this in some of my other
- 00:07:25videos but if you want to be a good
- 00:07:26writer and you want to be a copywriter
- 00:07:28you need to be a good reader and read
- 00:07:30often
- 00:07:31so it's important to get into the habit
- 00:07:33of reading every day how long you read
- 00:07:36every day that's up to you and your
- 00:07:37schedule 10 20 30 40 minutes however but
- 00:07:40reading is a success a crucial part of
- 00:07:43any successful writing habit
- 00:07:45so if you're new to copywriting i have
- 00:07:47it on the screen here
- 00:07:49i recommend 20 minutes every day
- 00:07:51indefinitely what that means is if you
- 00:07:52want to be a good writer being a good
- 00:07:54writer means you're always improving
- 00:07:56working on your craft learning from
- 00:07:58other good writers reading every day
- 00:08:00helps you do that and you doesn't even
- 00:08:02have to be reading copy just read books
- 00:08:04you like every day it'll expose you to
- 00:08:06different writing styles different you
- 00:08:09know techniques that authors and writers
- 00:08:11use to get their message across and that
- 00:08:13will passively bake into your brain and
- 00:08:16help you improve your own writing so
- 00:08:18read every day
- 00:08:20and other than reading every day you
- 00:08:22also want to write every day so that's
- 00:08:24me just jotting down on a notepad i like
- 00:08:26writing on physical paper sometimes at
- 00:08:28the ideation phase of a new project that
- 00:08:31helps me get my thoughts onto the page
- 00:08:34but get started writing absolutely
- 00:08:37anything so for a lot of us when we come
- 00:08:39into the world of copywriting it's our
- 00:08:41first time writing anything
- 00:08:44so at some point for every new writer
- 00:08:46you got to just take the plunge and
- 00:08:48start writing something you need to
- 00:08:51learn how to write stuff down it's a
- 00:08:53skill that comes with practice and being
- 00:08:55able to sit down and just start writing
- 00:08:57is a very important skill for
- 00:08:58copywriters who are going to be getting
- 00:09:00all these new projects all the time and
- 00:09:02need to learn how to self-motivate and
- 00:09:04start the writing process even in times
- 00:09:06when they're not feeling super creative
- 00:09:08so here's the first exercise of this
- 00:09:10course this is a beginner writing
- 00:09:12exercise that i've done extensively when
- 00:09:15i first started as a writer and this is
- 00:09:17going to be crucial for you too
- 00:09:19so step one is sit down at your desk
- 00:09:21either in front of a pad of paper like i
- 00:09:23had in my picture or in front of a blank
- 00:09:25document on your computer and set a 20
- 00:09:28minute timer on your phone
- 00:09:31next
- 00:09:32just start writing and do not stop until
- 00:09:35the timer goes off do not come prepared
- 00:09:37with an idea of what you want to write
- 00:09:39the point of this exercise is to get you
- 00:09:41to sit down set a timer and write for
- 00:09:43that amount of time
- 00:09:45so i yeah as i mentioned this exercise
- 00:09:48the the whole point of this exercise is
- 00:09:50to
- 00:09:51help you be able to sit down and just
- 00:09:53write you'll be amazed at some of the
- 00:09:55stuff that you you'll come up with at
- 00:09:58first it'll be really hard but being
- 00:10:00able to sit down and just start a
- 00:10:02writing flow is an important skill
- 00:10:04because as a copywriter you'll be
- 00:10:05getting a lot of projects for things
- 00:10:07that
- 00:10:08maybe are new to you or maybe you're not
- 00:10:09passionate about and you need to be able
- 00:10:11to sit down take the ideas and put them
- 00:10:12to paper
- 00:10:14so i would recommend you do this writing
- 00:10:16exercise every day for 30 days at the
- 00:10:20end of the first 30 days do a
- 00:10:22self-assessment how do you feel has this
- 00:10:25gotten easier for you are you able to
- 00:10:27actually sit down and just pound through
- 00:10:29a lot of text in 20 minutes or do you
- 00:10:31feel a little uncomfortable still do you
- 00:10:33feel like you have trouble you know just
- 00:10:35writing on cue
- 00:10:37if you do feel like you're not confident
- 00:10:39and you're having some trouble
- 00:10:41keep doing this until you're comfortable
- 00:10:43with the exercise and you you feel like
- 00:10:46the quality of the words you're putting
- 00:10:47on the page is actually getting better
- 00:10:49so if after 30 days it's not happening
- 00:10:52for you don't worry do it for another 30
- 00:10:54days this is a great writing exercise
- 00:10:56that
- 00:10:56you know i still do and i've been
- 00:10:58copywriting for years
- 00:11:00it'll help you
- 00:11:02work that muscle in your brain that
- 00:11:04helps you write helps you write on a
- 00:11:06timeline and helps you just get words
- 00:11:08onto the page so this is the first
- 00:11:10exercise of this course
- 00:11:11bookmark this page maybe save this part
- 00:11:14of the video come back to this ideally
- 00:11:17you gotta do this for 30 days if you
- 00:11:19can't commit to doing this for 30 days
- 00:11:21you're just not ready to be a copywriter
- 00:11:23so trust me try this out
- 00:11:26so here's the summary activities for
- 00:11:28part two um you know again bookmark this
- 00:11:31save this part of the video but step one
- 00:11:33for all new copywriters is to make sure
- 00:11:35you're getting into a habit of reading
- 00:11:37every day it's important i would
- 00:11:40recommend setting 20 minutes aside every
- 00:11:42day to read whatever you want read what
- 00:11:44you enjoy but read something
- 00:11:46and the part 2 practice activity from
- 00:11:49this course is the beginner writing
- 00:11:50exercise i mentioned so sit down in
- 00:11:52front of a blank page or document and
- 00:11:54write for 20 minutes do not come
- 00:11:56prepared with an idea just sit down and
- 00:11:58write and do this for 30 days the end of
- 00:12:00that 30 days give yourself an honest
- 00:12:03review of how you feel you have
- 00:12:05progressed in this exercise if you don't
- 00:12:07feel super confident just keep doing it
- 00:12:09add a week add two weeks add another
- 00:12:11month but this is important
- 00:12:13let me know in the comments what you

- 00:12:34so free ways to learn the basics
- 00:12:37the first is to study good copy that you
- 00:12:40can find on websites of successful
- 00:12:43people or companies that you follow
- 00:12:45see what they do see what appears on
- 00:12:47their site
- 00:12:48next is study the copy found in
- 00:12:51marketing email so
- 00:12:52any of us who have an email address a
- 00:12:54gmail whatever odds are you get a lot of
- 00:12:56spam a lot of marketing emails a lot of
- 00:12:58companies reaching out to you just skim
- 00:13:01through your own inbox and see the types
- 00:13:02of emails you're getting what types of
- 00:13:04subject lines are they using what do the
- 00:13:06emails look like do they get your
- 00:13:08attention what's working well study this
- 00:13:10type of stuff
- 00:13:12and next is to study good copy by
- 00:13:14actually submitting your email on a
- 00:13:17business website or entering their sales
- 00:13:19funnel through a lead capture form and
- 00:13:21the the kind of trick with this one is
- 00:13:23that gives you a behind-the-scenes look
- 00:13:25to see what happens after that type of
- 00:13:27thing happens a lot of copywriters write
- 00:13:30these type of follow-up sequences that
- 00:13:32are initiated after a prospect visits a
- 00:13:34website so by visiting a website and
- 00:13:36putting in you know a dummy email or
- 00:13:38something you can actually see what
- 00:13:40these companies are sending out to
- 00:13:41prospects and that's a great free way to
- 00:13:43learn so when it comes to studying
- 00:13:45website copy
- 00:13:47here's an example this is hubspot's
- 00:13:49homepage for those who don't know
- 00:13:50hubspot is a huge crm software company
- 00:13:54just to give you an idea of some of the
- 00:13:55things you might want to look out for
- 00:13:57you know what types of banners do they
- 00:14:00have running along the top of the page
- 00:14:01and what does this banner do for you and
- 00:14:03for them what are they trying to
- 00:14:05accomplish with this
- 00:14:06do they have you know headings what do
- 00:14:08the headings look like are they cliche
- 00:14:11are they relevant to current events
- 00:14:14study the headlines on the page and then
- 00:14:15the subheadings what do you see on the
- 00:14:17first you know above the fold what loads
- 00:14:20when you open the page this is all
- 00:14:22really important because you know that a
- 00:14:23big company like this has taken a lot of
- 00:14:26time into studying what works on a home
- 00:14:29page so just by studying this stuff
- 00:14:31you'll get an idea of what the big
- 00:14:33players are doing and you can use that
- 00:14:35to help develop your skills as a website
- 00:14:37copywriter so this is just below the
- 00:14:39fold on that same web page you know
- 00:14:41they're listing their product features
- 00:14:42this is a very common thing a lot of
- 00:14:44people get asked to do as a copywriter
- 00:14:46what headings do they use
- 00:14:48how many sentences do they use to
- 00:14:50briefly describe that particular product
- 00:14:52feature check this stuff out
- 00:14:54there's an endless amount of big company
- 00:14:56websites you can review to learn from
- 00:14:58the best and this is a great way to see
- 00:15:00what's happening in the copywriting
- 00:15:02industry and what other people are doing
- 00:15:04study it and use it to drive your
- 00:15:07practice activities and you know the
- 00:15:08type of stuff you might be interested in
- 00:15:10writing
- 00:15:11next we mentioned was email copy so you
- 00:15:13can actually
- 00:15:15study a lot of email copy for free
- 00:15:17because speaking from experience i get a
- 00:15:20ton of unsolicited marketing emails
- 00:15:23every day in all of my email accounts so
- 00:15:26you know this is an example of
- 00:15:28five emails i subject lines i pulled
- 00:15:30from my inbox you know studying subject
- 00:15:32lines is huge because that's a big part
- 00:15:34of email copywriting so if you look at
- 00:15:36these you know the first is from a
- 00:15:38steakhouse at evs enjoy before the
- 00:15:40season ends this is an interesting one
- 00:15:42this is like they're trying to get you
- 00:15:44to feel like there's some sort of
- 00:15:45scarcity you gotta get in there and
- 00:15:47spend some money before the season ends
- 00:15:49so that's interesting that's a tactic
- 00:15:50you could use
- 00:15:52a running a running apparel company
- 00:15:54just announcing some new releases you
- 00:15:56know they know that i've already
- 00:15:58purchased from them so that's the type
- 00:16:00of headline they go for when targeting a
- 00:16:02past client
- 00:16:04a social network using a seasonal
- 00:16:06headline halloween madness is here right
- 00:16:09a watch store hadinky you know it's a
- 00:16:11niche interest they know i'm a guy who
- 00:16:14likes watches so vintage watch week
- 00:16:17they put rolex and rolex daytona popular
- 00:16:21words for watch lovers in the subject
- 00:16:22line might get me to click
- 00:16:24and then the last one is a really
- 00:16:26personal subject line it looks like it
- 00:16:27was written by a friend what's next on
- 00:16:30your to-do list i wouldn't know by
- 00:16:32looking at that subject line that it's a
- 00:16:34marketing email necessarily you know
- 00:16:37study subject lines these are just five

- 00:16:44get a lot of these too study them it's a
- 00:16:46great way to learn what works
- 00:16:48and then study the email copy so here's
- 00:16:51an email i got from patreon
- 00:16:53you know do they use templates or images
- 00:16:55at the top of their message
- 00:16:57are there subheadings
- 00:16:59you know how much text actually shows up
- 00:17:02so i was viewing this on my iphone how
- 00:17:05much text shows up before you have to
- 00:17:07scroll that's an important thing that
- 00:17:09some copywriters take into consideration
- 00:17:11as well because if you can get the
- 00:17:12important call to actions above the fold
- 00:17:15it might boost the conversion rate of
- 00:17:17that email
- 00:17:19you know do they use different sections
- 00:17:20of text throughout the email or like
- 00:17:22images what does the email look like and
- 00:17:25do they include links so just review
- 00:17:27emails you're getting from brands you
- 00:17:29follow and see what they're doing
- 00:17:31because odds are they put a lot of
- 00:17:32thought into what works and what doesn't
- 00:17:34and you can use this as a guiding light
- 00:17:37for what you do with your own copy
- 00:17:40next is i mentioned entering the sales
- 00:17:43funnel or submitting your email on a
- 00:17:45company website
- 00:17:46so here's that hubspot leak capture page
- 00:17:49you don't necessarily need to use this
- 00:17:51is just the example i used for this
- 00:17:52because i love hubspot but you know this
- 00:17:55is their create your free account lead
- 00:17:58capture page you put your name and your
- 00:17:59email and you hit next and you get
- 00:18:01access to their free tool but what
- 00:18:03happens next
- 00:18:04i can tell you from experience they
- 00:18:06start sending you emails they start
- 00:18:08sending you links to webinars
- 00:18:09newsletters product releases submit your
- 00:18:12email to a company you follow and see
- 00:18:14what they send you to be like ah this is
- 00:18:16what they do for follow-up sequences
- 00:18:18maybe that'll help you learn how to
- 00:18:19write your own follow-up sequences
- 00:18:22and then another example is the nardi
- 00:18:24blog you know this is my website i do a
- 00:18:26monthly newsletter so if you submit your
- 00:18:28email here you can see what type of copy
- 00:18:31i put out in my monthly newsletter and
- 00:18:33this was a subtle plug to my website
- 00:18:36during this presentation
- 00:18:37all right
- 00:18:38so we talked about free ways to learn
- 00:18:40the basics here are some paid ways and
- 00:18:43when i say paid i'm not talking ten
- 00:18:44thousand dollar courses i'm talking
- 00:18:46reasonably priced courses that'll help
- 00:18:49you you know speed up the amount of time
- 00:18:52it takes for you to you know learn the
- 00:18:53basics but again this is totally up to
- 00:18:56you the freeways are a great way to
- 00:18:57learn that's how i did most of my
- 00:18:59learning but the first is skillshare so
- 00:19:01i'm actually a skillshare affiliate and
- 00:19:03in every video i put a link to their
- 00:19:05free trial because i think skillshare is
- 00:19:07a pretty cool platform you pay a monthly
- 00:19:09fee and you get access to a lot of cool
- 00:19:11courses it's a great way to learn
- 00:19:13udemy has been around for a long time
- 00:19:16you to me you can buy courses for like
- 00:19:17five ten bucks and there are a lot of
- 00:19:20courses on udemy a lot of these courses
- 00:19:22will offer you a means of learning that
- 00:19:25will just save you a little bit of time
- 00:19:27from figuring it out yourself
- 00:19:29and the last one that i really like and
- 00:19:31i've done some courses through coursera
- 00:19:32is coursera so coursera is i think it's
- 00:19:35called a mooc a massive online
- 00:19:38learning community or something like
- 00:19:40that and basically what it is is it does
- 00:19:42the one-to-many model of learning where
- 00:19:44you're actually learning through
- 00:19:46universities you have professors
- 00:19:47teaching you through pre-recorded
- 00:19:49lectures and thousands of people from
- 00:19:50around the world take these courses so
- 00:19:52these are the top three uh paid ways
- 00:19:55that um i'd recommend you learning again
- 00:19:58i'm an affiliate of skillshare i always
- 00:19:59recommend skillshare and there are links
- 00:20:01in the description of this video that i
- 00:20:03will get a little kickback from if you
- 00:20:05do decide to use skillshare
- 00:20:07next are some books so here are two
- 00:20:09books in particular that i read that
- 00:20:12really helped um with my development as
- 00:20:14a writer
- 00:20:15these are like i don't know 15 20 bucks
- 00:20:17each but the first is stephen king on
- 00:20:19writing and this isn't necessarily a
- 00:20:21book about copywriting it's just about
- 00:20:24writing so stephen king for those of you
- 00:20:26who don't know is a very prolific famous
- 00:20:28wealthy
- 00:20:29uh horror author he's written things
- 00:20:32like cary
- 00:20:33it a lot of big movies and books that a
- 00:20:36lot of us have heard of so this book
- 00:20:38talks through his journey of becoming a
- 00:20:40writer and really helped me frame
- 00:20:44what that means and how i should look at
- 00:20:46the craft of writing and it helped
- 00:20:48motivate me to actually take the next
- 00:20:50step in my writing journey so that's a
- 00:20:52book i always recommend it's really good
- 00:20:55and just a great way to frame yourself
- 00:20:57and really try to understand why you're
- 00:20:59doing what you're doing as a writer the
- 00:21:02next like this course is a practical
- 00:21:04book by the gotham writers workshop
- 00:21:07which is a very popular paid writing
- 00:21:10school you can take courses through them
- 00:21:12to learn how to write creative writing
- 00:21:13copywriting a whole bunch of different
- 00:21:14writing
- 00:21:15but this this book is actually about
- 00:21:17fiction writing and it's a book full of
- 00:21:19exercises to help you become a better
- 00:21:21writer
- 00:21:22so
- 00:21:23both of these books are not really
- 00:21:25directly related to copywriting but the
- 00:21:27reason i recommend them is for me
- 00:21:30personally they helped me develop a
- 00:21:32passion for my writing habit
- 00:21:34that passion allowed me to develop into
- 00:21:37a successful copywriting business so i
- 00:21:40think that it's important to be
- 00:21:41multi-disciplinary when you're becoming
- 00:21:43a writer you know you want to make money
- 00:21:45from copywriting that's great but i
- 00:21:47still write fiction and try to write
- 00:21:48short stories in my spare time because i
- 00:21:51love doing it and it helps me get better
- 00:21:53at other forms of writing so these are
- 00:21:56the other paid things that you can
- 00:21:57consider if you want to get into
- 00:21:59copywriting these two books there's a
- 00:22:00ton of books out there these are the two
- 00:22:02that i enjoyed most
- 00:22:04all right so summary activities of part
- 00:22:06three so first you know you can study
- 00:22:08copy from websites second is you could
- 00:22:11study marketing emails and the copy in
- 00:22:13those in your inbox
- 00:22:15you can submit your email to website
- 00:22:17lead capture forms or email submission
- 00:22:19forms to see what happens next and the
- 00:22:21fourth is you could consider taking a
- 00:22:23paid course or picking up a book to help
- 00:22:25speed up the amount of time it takes you
- 00:22:27to learn
- 00:22:28all right
- 00:22:29part four
- 00:22:30writing your first pieces of copy this
- 00:22:34is where
- 00:22:35um
- 00:22:36you know you're gonna shine
- 00:22:38so
- 00:22:39this is gonna start with an exercise 30
- 00:22:42days of copywriting prompts so what is a
- 00:22:46writing prompt a writing prompt is
- 00:22:47basically an idea a line uh something
- 00:22:51you need to do that will motivate you
- 00:22:53and guide you for what you should be
- 00:22:55writing so every day for 30 days select
- 00:22:57a writing prompt and i'll give you some
- 00:22:59on the next couple slides that you can
- 00:23:01use so no worries there
- 00:23:03next is each day select a different
- 00:23:06company to be your pretend client so
- 00:23:09you're going to use the company and
- 00:23:11write that writing prompt with that
- 00:23:13company in mind and if you're wondering
- 00:23:15how do i select a company
- 00:23:17literally just go to the internet pick a
- 00:23:19company like there's millions of
- 00:23:20companies in the world just pick one
- 00:23:22this is kind of what the exercise is all
- 00:23:23about
- 00:23:25next you're going to write the copy
- 00:23:27using that prompt
- 00:23:29for that particular company
- 00:23:32and you're going to do this for 30 days
- 00:23:34using the same writing prompt but mixing
- 00:23:36up the company every day
- 00:23:39the goal is to get super comfortable
- 00:23:42writing one form of copy so you see what
- 00:23:45i'm getting at here if you select the
- 00:23:47email copywriting writing prompt every
- 00:23:49day for 30 days write an email from that
- 00:23:52prompt for a different company by the
- 00:23:54end of that 30 days you've done this 30
- 00:23:56times that's a lot of practice that's
- 00:23:58going to give you confidence and skills
- 00:24:01to start writing email copy for actual
- 00:24:03paying customers same goes with other
- 00:24:05forms of copy so you can choose to do
- 00:24:07multiple writing prompts so like let's
- 00:24:09say you want to write an email for a
- 00:24:11different company every day for 30 days
- 00:24:12that's great you could also write
- 00:24:14website copy for that those same
- 00:24:15companies every day for 30 days but do
- 00:24:18both for 30 days the whole idea here is
- 00:24:20practice
- 00:24:22and if you don't feel comfortable after
- 00:24:2430 days do another 30 days if you see
- 00:24:28the theme with this course i'm stressing
- 00:24:30the practice element this is a practical
- 00:24:32copywriting course that i think can help
- 00:24:34anyone become a good copywriter but
- 00:24:37there are no shortcuts at some point you
- 00:24:39just gotta practice and get good at it
- 00:24:41so this is a fantastic exercise to
- 00:24:44actually get good at writing copy and
- 00:24:47you can do it for a month you can do it
- 00:24:48for six months you can do it for six
- 00:24:50years this is a great way to practice
- 00:24:52and it will help you
- 00:24:54so here's the first sample writing
- 00:24:56prompt that you can use the first is an
- 00:24:58outbound prospecting email
- 00:25:00so the prompt is this text in blue here
- 00:25:03and it says a company needs help writing
- 00:25:05an email to engage with prospective
- 00:25:08clients the goal of the email is to have
- 00:25:10the prospect agree to a call to view a
- 00:25:12demo of the product or service that
- 00:25:14company sells so that's what you need to
- 00:25:17do
- 00:25:18the types of companies that might need
- 00:25:19this service sas software companies gyms
- 00:25:22and fitness centers offshore software
- 00:25:24development firms management consulting
- 00:25:26companies digital media companies ad
- 00:25:27agencies digital marketing companies the
- 00:25:29list goes on but these are some of the
- 00:25:32the top companies that come to mind for
- 00:25:33me when i was trying to think of the
- 00:25:35type of companies that would need this
- 00:25:36type of outbound prospecting email
- 00:25:39so that's the first writing prompt and i
- 00:25:40put a little tip at the bottom in orange
- 00:25:42so if you submit your email on the
- 00:25:44company's contact us page or landing
- 00:25:46page and they send you an email
- 00:25:48that email might be a good indicator of
- 00:25:50the type of messaging that particular
- 00:25:52company is looking for so you can do
- 00:25:54this every day to see what type of
- 00:25:56messaging they're sending out and use
- 00:25:57that to just help guide the voice or the
- 00:26:00tone of the message you're writing
- 00:26:03so the next writing prompt is a product
- 00:26:05or service description so a company
- 00:26:07needs help writing a product or service
- 00:26:09description for a new product they're
- 00:26:11launching the description needs to
- 00:26:13reflect the company's values while also
- 00:26:16being informative and engaging
- 00:26:18encouraging potential customers to click
- 00:26:20add to cart
- 00:26:22so for this writing prompt the tip i'm
- 00:26:24giving is that reviewing things like
- 00:26:26their website social media accounts and
- 00:26:28newsletter will help you get a better
- 00:26:30idea of what their brand identity is so
- 00:26:34understanding their brand is important
- 00:26:36part of writing products or services
- 00:26:38descriptions that reflect the company's
- 00:26:40values and the types of companies that
- 00:26:42might hire you to write this type of
- 00:26:43project that you can target for practice
- 00:26:45exercise is clothing companies
- 00:26:47electronics companies watch brands
- 00:26:49boutique retailers supplements companies
- 00:26:51e-learning companies sas software
- 00:26:53companies there's so many but the prompt
- 00:26:55is the text in blue you can choose to
- 00:26:57use this one in your practice
- 00:26:59and the last one i'm giving you guys
- 00:27:00today is a website home page and this
- 00:27:02applies to just about any company that
- 00:27:04has a website so here's the prompt a
- 00:27:07startup company is launching their
- 00:27:09website for the very first time they
- 00:27:10need help writing copy for their home
- 00:27:12page that will do a good job explaining
- 00:27:14what they do and also encourage site
- 00:27:17visitors to do something by leveraging a
- 00:27:20well-written call to action on the home
- 00:27:22page so the tip for this one is
- 00:27:25if they want you to write website copy
- 00:27:28that also has a call to action that gets
- 00:27:30the visitor to do something you need to
- 00:27:32understand clearly what this company
- 00:27:35actually does what they sell
- 00:27:37it's important to creating an effective
- 00:27:39call to action so and just so you
- 00:27:41understand what a call to action is it's
- 00:27:43a piece of copy like a line of text that
- 00:27:45encourages the person reading to either
- 00:27:48take immediate action on something or
- 00:27:50make a purchase
- 00:27:52so those are the three writing prompts
- 00:27:53you can leverage use them in your 30-day
- 00:27:56practice let me know if you want me to
- 00:27:57provide some more in the comments and
- 00:27:59i'll give you guys some more down the
- 00:28:00road
- 00:28:02so the summary activities for part four
- 00:28:04the first is complete the writing prompt
- 00:28:07exercise
- 00:28:08every day for 30 days
- 00:28:11the second is to give all three prompts
- 00:28:13a try the reality is if you're just
- 00:28:14getting into copywriting and you don't
- 00:28:16really know what you're going to
- 00:28:17specialize in each focuses on a
- 00:28:20different form of copywriting and might
- 00:28:21be really helpful in helping you figure
- 00:28:24out which
- 00:28:26niche you want to target which is
- 00:28:28important
- 00:28:29and then at the end of 30 days of
- 00:28:30practice assess your work do you feel
- 00:28:33ready to do similar projects for clients
- 00:28:36if you do move on to part 5 of this
- 00:28:38course your goal then if you don't no
- 00:28:40worries do them for another 30 days
- 00:28:43being a copywriter can be a really
- 00:28:45lucrative super lucrative business so
- 00:28:47putting in the time now to practice
- 00:28:49don't think of it as a waste of time
- 00:28:51this is you investing in your future
- 00:28:53business so do this assessment see how
- 00:28:55you're doing if you're if you're feeling
- 00:28:56good enough move on if not give it some
- 00:28:58more practice
- 00:29:00okay part five how to build a
- 00:29:02copywriting portfolio so at this point
- 00:29:05you know you're like hey mike you've
- 00:29:06taught us what copywriting is you've
- 00:29:08given us all these practice exercises
- 00:29:10what next what do i do how do i build a
- 00:29:13portfolio if i haven't had any customers
- 00:29:16yet in the past well
- 00:29:18we're going to turn some of your writing
- 00:29:19prompts into your portfolio pieces and
- 00:29:23here's how
- 00:29:24so the first thing you're going to do is
- 00:29:26you know at this point you've either
- 00:29:27been writing these prompts for 30 days
- 00:29:2960 days more you have many writing
- 00:29:31prompts that you've done
- 00:29:33review all of them review all the
- 00:29:35prompts you've done over the past few
- 00:29:37months
- 00:29:38and select the best prompts are there
- 00:29:40any that stick out to you and you're
- 00:29:41like wow this is really good i'm proud
- 00:29:43of myself
- 00:29:45if you don't see any you like and you
- 00:29:47aren't proud of any of these
- 00:29:49maybe a good indicator do a little bit
- 00:29:50more practicing right
- 00:29:53so if you do find something that you
- 00:29:54like build on those good ones try
- 00:29:56writing them again now that you're more
- 00:29:58experienced writer see if you can make
- 00:30:00them better make them as good as you can
- 00:30:04once you've done that curate and collect
- 00:30:07all of your best pieces of work and use
- 00:30:09those as your portfolio to secure your
- 00:30:12first few clients and you can even let
- 00:30:14them know hey here are some writing
- 00:30:16prompts some sample case studies i did
- 00:30:18in my development as a copywriter you
- 00:30:21can look at these as an example
- 00:30:23of the quality of work you can expect to
- 00:30:25get from me that's how you should build
- 00:30:26your portfolio because most you won't
- 00:30:28have a client
- 00:30:30and i know a lot of you ask how do i
- 00:30:32build a portfolio if i don't have a
- 00:30:33client this is how i've given you the
- 00:30:35exercises to practice writing these
- 00:30:38prompts writing copy writing different
- 00:30:41forms of copy
- 00:30:42if you do the practice exercise like
- 00:30:44it's intended and you're getting good
- 00:30:45and practicing over 30 60 70 80 days
- 00:30:48whatever
- 00:30:49you're gonna be writing some stuff that
- 00:30:50you can use for your portfolio so do
- 00:30:53just that
- 00:30:54part six how to get your first
- 00:30:58customer
- 00:30:59so this is the big one and i know a lot
- 00:31:02of you watching this just because i've
- 00:31:04been doing this youtube thing for a
- 00:31:05while and i've talked to thousands of
- 00:31:07you a lot of you start this part before
- 00:31:11the first five parts that i've outlined
- 00:31:13in this course so
- 00:31:15if you've gotten this far in the course
- 00:31:17before i go any further if you've gotten
- 00:31:19to this slide and you haven't honestly
- 00:31:21given the first five parts of this
- 00:31:23course an honest try you haven't done
- 00:31:25the practice you haven't done the
- 00:31:26learning you won't succeed at this part
- 00:31:28so if you've gotten here without that go
- 00:31:30back and do those exercises they're not
- 00:31:32hard to do you just need to do them
- 00:31:34so without further ado let's get into
- 00:31:37how to get your first customer
- 00:31:39the first thing you need to do is decide
- 00:31:41where you're going to list your services
- 00:31:42so i put up my fiverr profile here
- 00:31:44because i'm a big time fiverr seller i
- 00:31:46love fiverr and that's the focus of this
- 00:31:48channel this is where i mainly sell my
- 00:31:50services so fiverr could be a great
- 00:31:52place for you to sell your services as
- 00:31:54well there are a lot of other freelance
- 00:31:56websites as well things like upwork
- 00:31:58freelancer there's so many of them i
- 00:32:01choose fiverr so this is what a fiverr
- 00:32:03profile looks like you have your actual
- 00:32:04profile on the left side there that
- 00:32:06shows you your picture
- 00:32:08reviews where you're from and i really
- 00:32:10recommend using a picture of you
- 00:32:12and then you have all the gigs that you
- 00:32:14have listed for sale
- 00:32:15so i have videos on my channel of how to
- 00:32:18make great fiverr gigs but here's just a
- 00:32:21quick rundown so you're going to want to
- 00:32:22write a really good subject line and if
- 00:32:25you've been doing the practice exercises
- 00:32:26in this course you're probably pretty
- 00:32:28good at that at this point
- 00:32:30next you got to select your packages and
- 00:32:33figure out how you're going to sell your
- 00:32:35services i typically recommend offering
- 00:32:38you know basic standard and premium
- 00:32:39package i find that it gives people
- 00:32:41enough variety to help hook them on if
- 00:32:44they you know maybe they don't have a
- 00:32:45big enough budget for your premium but
- 00:32:47they'll hit up your standard gives them
- 00:32:48options
- 00:32:49then you get to decide on a price so i
- 00:32:51talk about this extensively in a lot of
- 00:32:53videos but
- 00:32:54just as a starting point i'm in the camp
- 00:32:58of starting at five dollars start at the
- 00:33:00base baseline get your first five ten
- 00:33:02fifteen orders and get five star ratings
- 00:33:05on those orders by doing great work and
- 00:33:07then up your prices because five star
- 00:33:08ratings are very important to succeeding
- 00:33:10on fiverr
- 00:33:12but it's up to you a lot of people don't
- 00:33:13like starting at five dollars do
- 00:33:15whatever you're comfortable with
- 00:33:17and then you gotta get a good profile
- 00:33:19picture going on so you could use
- 00:33:20something like canva take a picture
- 00:33:22yourself you know put a little headline
- 00:33:24a little bulleted list of what you offer
- 00:33:26make it informative and you know clicky
- 00:33:28because this is this along with your gig
- 00:33:31title is what's going to entice people
- 00:33:33to actually click through to your
- 00:33:34service
- 00:33:35and then next
- 00:33:36probably the most important part after
- 00:33:38they click through to your gig is your
- 00:33:40description so this is something this is
- 00:33:42the place where you got to accurately
- 00:33:44describe what you're selling use some
- 00:33:46related and relevant keywords to help
- 00:33:49it appear in search and the most
- 00:33:52important part if they're reading this
- 00:33:53it's gotta get them to the point of
- 00:33:56hitting continue and placing an order so
- 00:33:59a lot of videos on my channel to get
- 00:34:00started with this if you want to sell on
- 00:34:02fiverr
- 00:34:03next i just put up my website here it's
- 00:34:05the only web property i have right now
- 00:34:07but if you don't want to sell on a
- 00:34:08freelance website you have the option of
- 00:34:11creating your own website and offering
- 00:34:13your services for sale there as well so
- 00:34:15you'll notice i don't do that on my
- 00:34:17website and the reason is is because
- 00:34:19it's expensive fiverr takes care of a
- 00:34:22lot of marketing a lot of back-end
- 00:34:24support billing payroll uh taking
- 00:34:26payments
- 00:34:28i don't wanna have to worry about a lot
- 00:34:29of that so i just sell on fiverr mainly
- 00:34:32if you want to sell on your own website
- 00:34:34you got to start thinking about are you
- 00:34:35going to buy a crm are you going to do
- 00:34:37paid marketing google ads facebook ads
- 00:34:39what are you going to do i actually have
- 00:34:41a video that talks about how much i've
- 00:34:43actually saved by paying fiverr to host
- 00:34:45my gigs their 20 cut
- 00:34:48over doing it myself and it's pretty
- 00:34:50substantial i think it was like 30 000
- 00:34:52for the first couple years
- 00:34:54so
- 00:34:55this kind of wraps up where you're gonna
- 00:34:56list your services but that's pretty
- 00:34:58much it once you've learned how to
- 00:35:00copyright you've built your portfolio
- 00:35:02you got to post it for sale somewhere
- 00:35:03whether it be fiverr or your own website
- 00:35:05or another freelancing site and use your
- 00:35:08skills that you've developed as a
- 00:35:09copywriter to make these listings
- 00:35:11awesome
- 00:35:12so what's next
- 00:35:15time
- 00:35:17time time time time time so
- 00:35:19what's next is doing the work putting in
- 00:35:22the reps and being patient
- 00:35:25it can take time to get your first
- 00:35:27couple of orders as a fiber seller it
- 00:35:30can take a couple of different
- 00:35:31iterations of a fiverr gig to get one to
- 00:35:34the point where it ranks in fiber search
- 00:35:37it can take time to get your first 15
- 00:35:40five star rating rated orders at five
- 00:35:43dollars an order before you can up your
- 00:35:45prices
- 00:35:46this is where we're leaving off with
- 00:35:47this presentation because the number one
- 00:35:49thing i hear from people is that they're
- 00:35:52impatient it's not working out for them
- 00:35:54and they they always quote the amount of
- 00:35:56time it's been it's been a week it's
- 00:35:58been 24 hours it's been a month it can
- 00:36:00take many months to start up your fiverr
- 00:36:02business and i need to frame this for
- 00:36:04you that that's not a bad thing starting
- 00:36:07any business takes time and you got to
- 00:36:09view fiverr as a business so if you go
- 00:36:12through this course and you've done all
- 00:36:13the practice you've truthfully taken the
- 00:36:15course and put in the work to get good
- 00:36:17at copywriting and it's taking you a
- 00:36:19little bit of time to get your first
- 00:36:20couple of orders
- 00:36:22don't get discouraged instead of getting
- 00:36:25mad at fiverr and quitting which will
- 00:36:27result in you never making money try to
- 00:36:29think about why it's taking time and if
- 00:36:31you can identify certain things you can
- 00:36:33improve on to help speed up that time
- 00:36:36it will help you make money faster it'll
- 00:36:39help you focus on doing something
- 00:36:40productive versus negative thinking
- 00:36:42about quitting or it's fiverr's fault or
- 00:36:45fiverr sucks or whatever or freelancing
- 00:36:47sucks
