- 00:00:11uh hi everybody Welcome uh to the fusion
- 00:00:14architecture channel uh I'm your host
- 00:00:16Daniel Escobar uh and today we have a
- 00:00:19great guest uh ozan erog and he's gonna
- 00:00:23be talking to us about uh how he's using
- 00:00:26AI in architecture so blending expertise
- 00:00:29with AI and
- 00:00:30ecobuild and crafts and uh oan orto he
- 00:00:35co-founded synthetic architecture with P
- 00:00:38unun in 2023 uh synthetic architectures
- 00:00:41redefining the future of design with
- 00:00:43over 20 years a combined experience in
- 00:00:45architecture education and ecology
- 00:00:47they're Fus in AI technology with
- 00:00:49traditional practices to revolutionize
- 00:00:51how we designed uh build and communicate
- 00:00:54architecture um also like another thing
- 00:00:58that I want to point out is that I've
- 00:00:59been following the worked for quite a
- 00:01:00bit uh since I started the page uh
- 00:01:02diffusion architecture uh and I've been
- 00:01:05really impressed because they're one of
- 00:01:07the few uh AI uh users uh or people that
- 00:01:11are experimenting with AI architecture
- 00:01:13that have developed their own unique
- 00:01:14style in a way that seems almost
- 00:01:17constructible like you can look at the
- 00:01:18image and sometimes you have to look
- 00:01:19twice to see if it's real or not uh and
- 00:01:22it's a very high aesthetic high quality
- 00:01:25uh curated set of images that also
- 00:01:28display like really unique form forms
- 00:01:30and Concepts that I I think could really
- 00:01:32be constructed or should be constructed
- 00:01:34eventually um so ozan uh thank you for
- 00:01:37joining us uh the floor is yours and
- 00:01:40welcome thank you Daniel it's so nice to
- 00:01:43be here and then uh like let me then
- 00:01:47start with the
- 00:01:51presentation so uh is the presentation
- 00:01:56is you can
- 00:01:57see yeah your screen is on so you see
- 00:02:01screen okay like um me and punar you
- 00:02:06know we we have a background in
- 00:02:08architecture we always you know try to
- 00:02:12find new uh Technologies and new stuff
- 00:02:15to uh make more out of architecture and
- 00:02:19then architecture uh process let's say
- 00:02:22because it's usually architecture has
- 00:02:25too many things to take care of uh in
- 00:02:29the in the architecture business and
- 00:02:32then most of them is mostly not related
- 00:02:36to the real philosophy and the
- 00:02:39conceptual uh you know backbone of the
- 00:02:41architecture and you need to do stuff
- 00:02:43that you have to do and then our most I
- 00:02:47think uh things uh focus on making these
- 00:02:51more maybe uh easier uh less pay so we
- 00:02:57synthetic architecture is very uh Young
- 00:03:00we started maybe the usefulness of AI in
- 00:03:04architecture has emerged and then we
- 00:03:07started with the name synthetic
- 00:03:09architecture and I think synthetic and
- 00:03:12for parar uh synthetic is the the very
- 00:03:17uh you know good definition for what we
- 00:03:20do even before AI synthetic is the thing
- 00:03:23that you are doing see the data that we
- 00:03:26are creating with architectural tools a
- 00:03:29synthetic data actually so you produce
- 00:03:33synthetic data to in order to realize a
- 00:03:36building so synthetic architecture is
- 00:03:39kind of a name that suits uh what we're
- 00:03:42trying to do and then like our main
- 00:03:46issues are about maybe some his
- 00:03:49historical context because uh the Earth
- 00:03:52has its history and the Earth has its
- 00:03:55context so we want to you know make make
- 00:03:59it peace with that because most of the
- 00:04:01modern architecture and the Contemporary
- 00:04:04thinkers are I think has an issue with
- 00:04:08history that trying to maybe uh getting
- 00:04:12something so much away from history but
- 00:04:16we think that it lays the foundation is
- 00:04:20lays in the history and we want to check
- 00:04:24check out the history and then ER think
- 00:04:27about the present realities and then
- 00:04:30based the Forward Thinking over these
- 00:04:33top two
- 00:04:34foundations so I'm like a 2006 graduate
- 00:04:39but I was more involved in in the
- 00:04:43University also with working in
- 00:04:45architectures so it's like a 20 years or
- 00:04:47something uh experience for me with lots
- 00:04:50of buildings uh you know constructed and
- 00:04:54um I don't know maybe more than 100
- 00:04:57conceptual projects with companies and
- 00:05:00then my own company
- 00:05:03also uh parar has also uh too much like
- 00:05:07has some experience she has also uh an
- 00:05:11advantage in uh Timber construction and
- 00:05:14Timber you know handicrafts she has a
- 00:05:17tendency on that so she has this
- 00:05:21advantage on top of
- 00:05:25me uh as we said like synthetic
- 00:05:28architecture but with the kind of we
- 00:05:31wanted to use Instagram for showing out
- 00:05:35what we do and then getting the feedback
- 00:05:38and then talking to people about uh how
- 00:05:42uh we can use and how we can apply AI in
- 00:05:46architecture is it's mostly you know
- 00:05:48Architects just deal with uh their own
- 00:05:52surroundings when talking to
- 00:05:53architecture and their clients only but
- 00:05:56we want to you know make this available
- 00:05:58to uh people around and people uh
- 00:06:02universally in uh all over all over the
- 00:06:05world and we try to you know if you uh
- 00:06:10you know see our work we try to use
- 00:06:13different techniques different veroc uh
- 00:06:16techniques different materials and then
- 00:06:19combine them in different situations not
- 00:06:22just too much like we don't want too
- 00:06:24much you know technology uh Hightech uh
- 00:06:29you know
- 00:06:30seem like buildings but maybe a little
- 00:06:33bit uh things that goes good with the
- 00:06:37context goes good with the surroundings
- 00:06:41and then we try to make research on
- 00:06:45that but we have as as I said lots of
- 00:06:48thing going on with the Build
- 00:06:51architecture we have some ecological
- 00:06:54buildings happened in in turkey and
- 00:06:57abroad and then we have uh some
- 00:07:00competitions things that we have uh you
- 00:07:03know have some awards around so this is
- 00:07:07a like uh mostly it was an architectural
- 00:07:11process we had before and then we now
- 00:07:14added AI a enhanced Echo Building last
- 00:07:19two years so we have other also research
- 00:07:23going on
- 00:07:24for she has a global time timeline
- 00:07:28shelter uh that she's uh advancing right
- 00:07:32now I'm working on 3D Concrete
- 00:07:35Construction and then we have some uh
- 00:07:39you know works on uh emergency uh you
- 00:07:42know usage of some uh fast constructed
- 00:07:46systems for the the earthquake happen in
- 00:07:49turkey and Syria as you remember so we
- 00:07:53we wanted to have uh some say about
- 00:07:57things happening around not just you
- 00:07:59know uh most glorified uh you know
- 00:08:02agenda of of a moneymaking you know
- 00:08:06business so we have this too too much
- 00:08:09going on with one and a half year or two
- 00:08:13years now and we have the too many talks
- 00:08:16and uh you know appearances around and
- 00:08:18diffusion architecture is the the last
- 00:08:21one like now and we we really appreciate
- 00:08:25uh their call uh to make this call
- 00:08:29so uh for for looking back uh in the
- 00:08:34architecture we we have our research we
- 00:08:37have our own research about what happen
- 00:08:41uh in the 20th century so that AI has
- 00:08:45come to that point that we can use it in
- 00:08:49architectural production but AI was used
- 00:08:53before but not that you know uh in an
- 00:08:57apparent way so we have this uh you know
- 00:09:01timeline that's showing how Hardware uh
- 00:09:04how software and how events and
- 00:09:08architecture actually uh layered on in
- 00:09:12the time and what made the other you
- 00:09:14know advancements possible as you can
- 00:09:17see maybe uh I don't know from my uh
- 00:09:20screen at the end of
- 00:09:221919s the most of the uh software we are
- 00:09:26using right now 3D Studio Max like
- 00:09:28Autodesk programs Kya Rhino and Maya and
- 00:09:32Revit was introduced at that point and
- 00:09:35also it's a question that why are we
- 00:09:39using the same uh softwares uh from the
- 00:09:431990s till here like 30 years it's a
- 00:09:47question but I think it started to
- 00:09:49change so I'm moving to the Millennium
- 00:09:54and then at the end of the Millennium as
- 00:09:56you know for two years we have too much
- 00:09:59things going on and then at the end of
- 00:10:022020s uh I think the start of uh
- 00:10:07the one exhibition is important uh that
- 00:10:11I I was also introduced in most of the
- 00:10:14stuff about AI in architecture is it's
- 00:10:18Stanis chalu he's also the co-founder of
- 00:10:23Ryon and he made this exhibition in
- 00:10:27pavilon Del Arsenal and it's called
- 00:10:29called artificial intelligence and AR in
- 00:10:32architecture uh exhibition and then he
- 00:10:35has this website also about this and
- 00:10:38then also he had a book about it so I
- 00:10:41think it was a very good uh you know
- 00:10:44start uh for me that I introduced it was
- 00:10:48a good reading and good exhibition to
- 00:10:52understand AI in architecture and what's
- 00:10:54going on and if anyone want to you know
- 00:10:58go make an introdu about that I will
- 00:11:02uh I think that's that's a good point to
- 00:11:06start so this is a you know chart we
- 00:11:10made about uh how things will move on uh
- 00:11:14with AI uh aided architecture and then I
- 00:11:18think a little bit it started to feel
- 00:11:20like that you may you may see this
- 00:11:22percentages around and you when you
- 00:11:25think about design process you may see
- 00:11:28some some uh you know uh person just
- 00:11:32started to seem around there but I think
- 00:11:36it will be in the future there will be
- 00:11:38the the idea will be um if it's a
- 00:11:43preference like for me it's 20% of idea
- 00:11:47used with AI most of the idea is coming
- 00:11:50from me but I use 20% to enhance my
- 00:11:53ideas with with
- 00:11:55AI uh and I put this into the building
- 00:11:59latent space bu you can say building
- 00:12:02latent space is uh like if an an AI has
- 00:12:08a large language model that having
- 00:12:10everything defined for this AI uh you
- 00:12:14know system then uh you can say building
- 00:12:17latent space is the uh large model of
- 00:12:21the building because from that building
- 00:12:24latent space you build the uh the
- 00:12:27building but buildings are usually a
- 00:12:31frozen piece of the process like you
- 00:12:34have a too many options you have too
- 00:12:36many ideas going on around and then at
- 00:12:39the end you just build one building in
- 00:12:42the real world uh but this is something
- 00:12:45that's only today uh we are doing it
- 00:12:48like that maybe in the future you may uh
- 00:12:51have the option to you know transform
- 00:12:54the building by itself H but right now
- 00:12:57we are we are freezing the building in
- 00:13:00in this latent space so we add the idea
- 00:13:03and the building model in that latent
- 00:13:05space I think building model will get uh
- 00:13:0940 to 80% AI aided and then I think Bim
- 00:13:13modeling should be uh I'm saying 70 90%
- 00:13:18AI here in the chart but it should be
- 00:13:20taken care of AI like Bim model
- 00:13:24is vast you know collection of data and
- 00:13:28then
- 00:13:30a human cannot you know control that
- 00:13:32much of the data so AI systems will be
- 00:13:35more capable of doing that and then
- 00:13:38realization and building care also will
- 00:13:41have some uh AI percentage Ai and
- 00:13:45Robotics let's
- 00:13:47say and then this is what we are using
- 00:13:50right now maybe starting from the idea
- 00:13:54be at chat GPT and you know other mid
- 00:13:57journey and uh Deli and stability AI
- 00:14:01usage as you see there's that pencil
- 00:14:06thing there I always use sketching in
- 00:14:09the middle of everything like it's in
- 00:14:11the center mostly and then uh rhinos
- 00:14:14serus is my uh you know modeling you
- 00:14:18know station for most of the stuff and
- 00:14:21right now I think we are seeing usage of
- 00:14:25uh Autodesk Forma it was before uh space
- 00:14:29uh I don't remember the name exactly but
- 00:14:33Autodesk bought this AI uh you know
- 00:14:37simulation program and it's now autod
- 00:14:39Forma and it's very fast in uh you know
- 00:14:43wind analysis and energy analysis uh
- 00:14:46stuff like that and we use Forma a lot
- 00:14:50for for this environmental uh
- 00:14:53simulations and then we use Ryon as a
- 00:14:56light uh Bin solution is a web based
- 00:15:00solution and then we are trying to use
- 00:15:03Finch 3D for the uh you know AI planning
- 00:15:08Solutions but I I couldn't find uh too
- 00:15:13much comfort in that yet I think it's
- 00:15:16getting in the uh in the
- 00:15:18way uh and also so everything is
- 00:15:21connected in the Bim model uh and then
- 00:15:25from the Bim model you go on uh with the
- 00:15:29construction and
- 00:15:30realization so this is what I was
- 00:15:32talking about Architects always uh
- 00:15:35producing synthetic data but right now I
- 00:15:38added this Ai and B uh program section
- 00:15:42for that so Architects program and use
- 00:15:46AI to generate synthetic data and then
- 00:15:50Architects add their own synthetic data
- 00:15:53from their own manual programs and then
- 00:15:56Architects curate this synthetic
- 00:15:59data and add it up to the real data so
- 00:16:03the data you have like uh you know the
- 00:16:07geographic data and other Sun data and
- 00:16:10stuff is enhanced with the synthetic
- 00:16:13data and you're ready to realize a
- 00:16:16building this works like that what we
- 00:16:18are doing is basically creating
- 00:16:21synthetic data and simulations to
- 00:16:23realize a
- 00:16:26building this is a you know
- 00:16:30you know the model of leor he's showing
- 00:16:34he shows his own uh human you know uh
- 00:16:40ergonomist about the in the model and we
- 00:16:44we just wanted to make a version of uh a
- 00:16:48model that not just uh concentrate on
- 00:16:52human but uh all life forms and also
- 00:16:57maybe all life forms includes not just
- 00:17:01Organics but also inorganics like a a
- 00:17:04river the Earth itself a rock and and
- 00:17:09something that a soil is also I think
- 00:17:14the piece of the design so this is this
- 00:17:17is a uh you know this graphic is made
- 00:17:20with AI and uh I put this here to uh
- 00:17:25show you that if I have a story to uh
- 00:17:28you know tell you if I have something to
- 00:17:31tell
- 00:17:33you in in something like presentation or
- 00:17:36talk this is a so good way to you know
- 00:17:40put my uh ideas and then my feelings
- 00:17:44into some graphics and this graphic is
- 00:17:48not an exactic but it shows uh what we
- 00:17:52are seeking for the model of the all
- 00:17:55life
- 00:17:57forms uh let's talk about some our
- 00:18:01latest uh you know ai2 realization works
- 00:18:04because we have a chance to right now
- 00:18:07starting to uh use the AI based you know
- 00:18:11ideas into realization this is uh the
- 00:18:15mobile Garden we uh proposed for the
- 00:18:18Melbourne design week and then from the
- 00:18:21inspiration we did uh create an AI
- 00:18:25storytelling based you know system as
- 00:18:28story and then uh Melbourne design week
- 00:18:31accepted our proposal and then we
- 00:18:34started to implement it to to the real
- 00:18:37world the the picture in the middle is
- 00:18:40not a real picture but it's enhanced
- 00:18:42with AI so it seems so real we didn't
- 00:18:45use any vray or chaos or any any other
- 00:18:49you know uh rendering engines for that
- 00:18:52it's a it's a good thing for me because
- 00:18:54I always hate you know making too much
- 00:18:57uh you know effort for that so this came
- 00:19:01out and then we have prototyped it in in
- 00:19:03turkey and then we put it in a in the
- 00:19:06lugage because it's a demountable thing
- 00:19:09we put it in a luggage we bought another
- 00:19:12tree cycle in Melbourne and then we put
- 00:19:15it uh there together and then we showed
- 00:19:18it in in Melbourne streets and it was a
- 00:19:21s success uh and we love the process
- 00:19:24starting with AI to realization
- 00:19:29and this is a you know prototype drawing
- 00:19:32of the mobile
- 00:19:34garden and this is something that I
- 00:19:37didn't show anywhere I asked yesterday
- 00:19:40to my client about can I share it with
- 00:19:43with the world about what we are doing
- 00:19:46uh we are building a um you
- 00:19:51know residence in Dubai and then our
- 00:19:55customer exactly came here came to us
- 00:19:59from our Instagram page and he was like
- 00:20:03you know I have a villa and then do you
- 00:20:05want to yeah can you uh build it and we
- 00:20:09said yeah like yes because we're not uh
- 00:20:12we are also having expertise in
- 00:20:14architecture not just uh you know AI uh
- 00:20:18storytellers so we started with he he
- 00:20:21liked the picture on the left and then
- 00:20:24we adapted it into the uh image in the
- 00:20:28mdle
- 00:20:29and then right now we have this Bim
- 00:20:31model that we are preparing to adapt it
- 00:20:34to to the real
- 00:20:36world this is not like the left
- 00:20:39converted in the right but uh I'm just
- 00:20:42saying that we started with the basic
- 00:20:45Rhino model and then Rhino uh you know
- 00:20:48show things and then go to the right but
- 00:20:51the thing on the left is uh also very uh
- 00:20:55you know acceptable for me as an
- 00:20:57architect
- 00:20:59uh this has no difference uh is in the
- 00:21:03quality the quality of a rendering
- 00:21:06mostly goes on with the normal people
- 00:21:08that they are not Architects so they
- 00:21:10just want to see the real thing so these
- 00:21:13things in the left and the right they
- 00:21:15are equal for me but they are different
- 00:21:18for uh the
- 00:21:20client so this is happened uh yesterday
- 00:21:24my Escape just stopped working because I
- 00:21:27didn't want to show too much uh you know
- 00:21:32render stuff in the early stage but uh
- 00:21:37because my Escape stopped working I uh
- 00:21:40created the the image on the right uh
- 00:21:44with the help of the left and also it
- 00:21:46was a challenge I said like I have too
- 00:21:49little time and then can I do it uh this
- 00:21:52time with a very real picture going into
- 00:21:56the render and then uh it came out not
- 00:21:59so good it it won't work like that
- 00:22:01usually but this is a very uh you know
- 00:22:04good uh solution here and then I wanted
- 00:22:07to show it to you it's a digital
- 00:22:09modeling to AI enhanced render and it
- 00:22:12worked and the client really uh like the
- 00:22:16outcome so this is what we are using for
- 00:22:20the conceptual process uh we use mostly
- 00:22:23rayon uh Light Beam solution but when we
- 00:22:27go to the design development we use RIT
- 00:22:29for the uh more capable you know
- 00:22:34modeling and then sketching is always
- 00:22:36there I'm not a you know um let's say
- 00:22:41computer junkie like I always stop using
- 00:22:45computer in at some point I draw some
- 00:22:48stuff and then clear my head and also I
- 00:22:50draw some stuff to solve uh things that
- 00:22:54I cannot uh solve using uh the computer
- 00:22:58and then back to you know digital
- 00:23:00modeling after that and sketching is
- 00:23:02always uh the best way to you know clear
- 00:23:06your mind and make uh Solutions
- 00:23:10faster so at the end of my uh like
- 00:23:14presentation I can say like we are
- 00:23:18visioning um a vernacular wisdom uh
- 00:23:22combined with a technological innovation
- 00:23:25uh there's this thing happened yesterday
- 00:23:28like
- 00:23:29the the place we are building with the
- 00:23:32with my client in Dubai they have this
- 00:23:34design brief and then they they are
- 00:23:36saying in
- 00:23:382017 ER you should build a modern uh
- 00:23:43modern building but the modern building
- 00:23:45has this standards like uh gray and
- 00:23:49brown aluminum and then uh white Plaster
- 00:23:54and then concrete and stuff and I said
- 00:23:57let's just just go to them and say like
- 00:24:00this is
- 00:24:012024 and then I think things go very
- 00:24:05good in s years and then right now we
- 00:24:08have
- 00:24:09contemporary uh
- 00:24:11vernacular is more important than the uh
- 00:24:15processed aluminum or other uh you know
- 00:24:19materials so I think we are at that
- 00:24:23point and I'm so proud of that for for
- 00:24:26the world and for the Contemporary AR
- 00:24:28that we have this vernacular wisdom and
- 00:24:31we are seeking to uh go through that
- 00:24:35vernacular wisdom uh with our uh
- 00:24:39synthetic architecture you
- 00:24:42know also the the practice and also the
- 00:24:45Instagram page as a you know site side
- 00:24:48think thank
- 00:24:53you okay awesome uh oang that was great
- 00:24:57um really interesting and I'm I'm
- 00:24:59actually pretty happy that you show a
- 00:25:01project that hasn't been shown before
- 00:25:03it's really interesting to see that
- 00:25:05you're actually uh getting to build uh
- 00:25:08these projects that like you look at
- 00:25:10your Instagram account and some of them
- 00:25:12are really like you can almost tell like
- 00:25:14you wonder if they're already built um
- 00:25:17so this was awesome great presentation I
- 00:25:20really enjoyed it a lot I I think also
- 00:25:22the way that you structure some of the
- 00:25:23diagrams and how you're representing
- 00:25:25your understanding of what is currently
- 00:25:27happening um really makes it clear um
- 00:25:30how you as an architect that's been
- 00:25:32practicing for some time now and have
- 00:25:34the experience of architecture can take
- 00:25:36advantage of these new technologies to
- 00:25:38to push forward um let's say your
- 00:25:40practice of architecture and and what is
- 00:25:42possible um so so I'm really happy to
- 00:25:45see that um so now let's let's go a
- 00:25:47little bit back in time and maybe let's
- 00:25:49talk a little bit about your background
- 00:25:51um you know like how do you start you
- 00:25:53start eating in uh Turkey right but were
- 00:25:55you interested always in like Tech stuff
- 00:25:58I I know your uh bi you talk a little
- 00:26:00bit about the tech stuff were you always
- 00:26:02interested in Tech stuff or did that
- 00:26:04emerge as you went through like
- 00:26:05architecture
- 00:26:07school uh I think uh like this this is a
- 00:26:11very you know funny story that I was
- 00:26:14working uh in the
- 00:26:16photography uh you know shop of my uncle
- 00:26:20and then at that time I have this uh
- 00:26:23computer in my house and then but like I
- 00:26:26wasn't using it for mostly designing or
- 00:26:30doing anything it was just gaming you
- 00:26:33know but I
- 00:26:36think playing the Str strategy games and
- 00:26:40then you know my main language is not
- 00:26:42English so playing on uh games and stuff
- 00:26:46and then trying to uh solve out problems
- 00:26:48that you don't understand going making
- 00:26:51research and then solving the problems
- 00:26:53and trying to achieve stuff uh is made
- 00:26:58made a really good break in me and then
- 00:27:02my uncle said like why are you using
- 00:27:05this PC like it's you're wasting your
- 00:27:08time and I was like No it's it's a good
- 00:27:11thing and it it will be the future and
- 00:27:13then after five years he started using
- 00:27:15the PC himself like uh in the beginning
- 00:27:19it was all manual in his photography you
- 00:27:22know shop and then he turned into uh
- 00:27:25pces himself because
- 00:27:28ER PC is something like uh the aid of a
- 00:27:33human it's like a machine counterpart of
- 00:27:35a human human uh trying to make stuff
- 00:27:39and then he just invents to make stuff
- 00:27:43faster for the machines for itself so I
- 00:27:45was always intg with the the machine uh
- 00:27:49the machine itself but I'm not so much
- 00:27:52you know very capable of coding or uh
- 00:27:57you know other under the hoood uh stuff
- 00:28:00but I always you know I was always a
- 00:28:03power user I guess to make uh things
- 00:28:07getting things together and then using
- 00:28:09them for uh doing stuff so it started
- 00:28:12with that I think the games and stuff
- 00:28:15and then in the games you know there's
- 00:28:17an achievement stuff you need to finish
- 00:28:19things and then you get a badge and
- 00:28:22stuff and I think in architecture I
- 00:28:24always work like that like I have to
- 00:28:26finish this this this and then send it
- 00:28:29to the client so so he can pay
- 00:28:32me yeah yeah no it's pretty interesting
- 00:28:35because I think like some of the the
- 00:28:37architectes or people that I talked to
- 00:28:38in the past that um also starts
- 00:28:41experimenting with technology certainly
- 00:28:43they they come also with like some sort
- 00:28:44of background of like kind of like tag
- 00:28:47things or messing around tinkering with
- 00:28:49things um so so it's kind of cool to see
- 00:28:51that um and then to follow up on that so
- 00:28:54when you started like uh I guess
- 00:28:56practicing architecture after school
- 00:28:58um was there like a specific project
- 00:29:01type that you worked on or you like
- 00:29:02working on uh you do you're talking
- 00:29:05about fusing like vernacular uh wisdom
- 00:29:07so like did you always have that in your
- 00:29:09mind or was that something that evolved
- 00:29:12uh over
- 00:29:13time uh like uh I started before
- 00:29:19graduating uh working uh with with the
- 00:29:22project because uh I think it was 2000
- 00:29:26in the beginning of Millennium and then
- 00:29:28one of the master students have this
- 00:29:31thesis uh and it was so neat that time
- 00:29:34and then he introduced us that uh
- 00:29:37computer AED design in that time so I
- 00:29:40was in the group that uh using the
- 00:29:43computer and then there are other six
- 00:29:45person that not using the computer so I
- 00:29:48was using the computer for Designing and
- 00:29:50then I learned 3D Studio Max there and
- 00:29:54it was like a so intense you know
- 00:29:56learning from a master student and then
- 00:29:59so I started working with 3D Studio Max
- 00:30:02because there were no much uh not much
- 00:30:05people like not much Architects that
- 00:30:07know 3D Studio Max that uh that good in
- 00:30:11in my country so I get too much stuff uh
- 00:30:15started working with that and then but
- 00:30:19in one point I saw that I'm becoming uh
- 00:30:22you know 3D modeler it was paying too
- 00:30:25good uh but I also
- 00:30:28um you know graduated from a design uh
- 00:30:32School in in Turkey so I told myself
- 00:30:35like I need to go somewhere with paying
- 00:30:38less maybe but somewhere that practicing
- 00:30:42architecture so I think I went from one
- 00:30:45of my friends uh you know working in a
- 00:30:49big company Gad architecture in Isle and
- 00:30:52it's like one of the right now this year
- 00:30:55I think they are in the uh one 100 firms
- 00:30:58in Aro list they are a big company and
- 00:31:02I'm still working part with them and
- 00:31:05part in my company so I started with
- 00:31:07there and then there are like uh too
- 00:31:11many big uh you know projects I just go
- 00:31:14in diving and then after five years uh I
- 00:31:18was uh you know in too many you know
- 00:31:21projects working on that but after eight
- 00:31:24years I think I was in a limit and then
- 00:31:28then uh I leave the company to just to
- 00:31:31see around then what can I do what
- 00:31:34what's I'm capable of so I introduced to
- 00:31:38uh ecological practices with one of my
- 00:31:41friends and then we go build some
- 00:31:43ecologic uh you know quality buildings
- 00:31:47and stuff in the south of turkey and
- 00:31:50then east of turkey some several
- 00:31:53buildings and then the vernacular I
- 00:31:56think the vericle wisdom uh implemented
- 00:32:00in in my mind at that point like you can
- 00:32:04use the vernacular wisdom and some
- 00:32:07technology and then you can have uh a
- 00:32:10better building with less uh you know
- 00:32:14constructed parts and then with cultural
- 00:32:18you know integrity and then that people
- 00:32:22can like right now I don't know mostly
- 00:32:25the ecological wisdom and and then the
- 00:32:29climate wisdom comes with the boredom
- 00:32:32and then I see uh fun and design in
- 00:32:37vernacular like local vernacular but
- 00:32:41right now in Europe uh the climate and
- 00:32:44then ecological practices usually going
- 00:32:46so boring so I wanted to keep on the not
- 00:32:51so much technological e ecology and then
- 00:32:55uh you know Carbon foodpro read and
- 00:32:58stuff and the percentages and the
- 00:32:59numbers that's okay like we need to take
- 00:33:02care of that but uh if the building
- 00:33:05comes out as uh you know boring boxes
- 00:33:09and then goes on like that I don't think
- 00:33:12it's uh much ecological it's not not
- 00:33:16there for me so I think I'm trying to
- 00:33:19you know uh trying to catch on that how
- 00:33:22to do
- 00:33:23that yeah that's that's really
- 00:33:25interesting because it it it ties I
- 00:33:27guess like you're design when you when
- 00:33:28you're designing something um to a
- 00:33:31locality or a region that you kind of
- 00:33:33have to do be familiar with and then do
- 00:33:35research and maybe like I think one of
- 00:33:38the things that you mentioned is like in
- 00:33:40your presentation was the idea of like
- 00:33:42this house right like the the brief was
- 00:33:44like a modern brief and it has like
- 00:33:46these qualities right but it's like what
- 00:33:49else can you do besides that and that
- 00:33:51get that can be a house in you know one
- 00:33:53part of the world or in another part of
- 00:33:54the world and it would probably look the
- 00:33:56same versus taking some
- 00:33:58that is unique from that local context
- 00:34:00and seeing how you can combine it and
- 00:34:03develop something um that would be
- 00:34:05unique there um so I think I think
- 00:34:08that's really interesting and and maybe
- 00:34:10talk a little bit about that because I I
- 00:34:12think the idea of being able to use kind
- 00:34:14of like this traditional uh vernacular
- 00:34:17or materiality from local context uh
- 00:34:20when you use it within AI do you find
- 00:34:22those
- 00:34:23representations um similar to to those
- 00:34:26locals or or is it something that you
- 00:34:29can uh mix and match and then see kind
- 00:34:32of novel ideas uh emerge from
- 00:34:35that ER I think AI you know the um the
- 00:34:41logic of AI is somehow you need to make
- 00:34:47a literature base uh to use AI in a
- 00:34:51better way I'm not saying like you need
- 00:34:53to have a literature based like need to
- 00:34:58finish a graduate program but uh you
- 00:35:01need to understand how you define um a
- 00:35:05space like you need to maybe read some
- 00:35:08liuin uh read some you know other
- 00:35:12science fiction or normal uh you know uh
- 00:35:16authors telling about you about the our
- 00:35:20constructed or natural landscapes and
- 00:35:23stuff so for me uh I think I always like
- 00:35:28you know science fiction I'm also trying
- 00:35:30to you know as an aspiring you know
- 00:35:33architect and then doing stuff I also
- 00:35:35have this uh thing like I'm trying to
- 00:35:38write my own science fiction novels and
- 00:35:41stuff but it's so hard like for an
- 00:35:43architect you don't have anything to do
- 00:35:45in your life so but uh I have to read
- 00:35:49and I always like reading and then
- 00:35:52watching uh like always doing so much uh
- 00:35:56you know literature reading and stuff so
- 00:35:59I think this makes my um it's not a
- 00:36:03monologue like it's a dialogue with the
- 00:36:05AI it's not a monologue like if you make
- 00:36:07it a monologue U it just gives you
- 00:36:11something that biased mostly like
- 00:36:15because if you say vernacular adop hot
- 00:36:20this this just gave you something most
- 00:36:22of the times 90% like a biased uh you
- 00:36:26know underdeveloped
- 00:36:28uh image of a building and then it's
- 00:36:31always old building and stuff like that
- 00:36:34but you need to mix and match things and
- 00:36:38stuff uh to understand and it's
- 00:36:40something like um research is in its own
- 00:36:44uh own phase I think from the beginning
- 00:36:47of I started using it from the beginning
- 00:36:50of mid Journey version for for the mid
- 00:36:52journey and then for other things and
- 00:36:56then I do it like every day it's like a
- 00:37:00you need something like a sports uh you
- 00:37:04need do it every day you need to find uh
- 00:37:07stuff you need to check uh like I give
- 00:37:12you know there's a description thing in
- 00:37:14mid Journey but I don't give the
- 00:37:16structure of a building to give me the
- 00:37:19structure of this you know building and
- 00:37:21then I can reproduce it I give some
- 00:37:24materials mostly like a translucent
- 00:37:27material I give it a transl material and
- 00:37:30then I try to understand what the
- 00:37:32computer sees in
- 00:37:34that sometimes it's weird it's like uh
- 00:37:38it says something so out of ordinary but
- 00:37:42I just put it inside my prompt to
- 00:37:45enhance the visibility and then the
- 00:37:47storytelling of the idea because at the
- 00:37:50end this AI images is the backbone of
- 00:37:54the storytelling and the story is me and
- 00:37:57then story is coming from me and then
- 00:37:59I'm illustrating a story there with the
- 00:38:03help of AI you can do it with hand
- 00:38:05sketching you can do it with a vay user
- 00:38:09modeler can do it you can do it with you
- 00:38:12know iPad and stuff this is a new way of
- 00:38:16Storytelling and then it has its own
- 00:38:18stuff and then it has its own ethical
- 00:38:21problems as like you know
- 00:38:25architectur I know that most
- 00:38:28you know Studios still the old Studios
- 00:38:30still using the Pinterest and then the
- 00:38:33magazines and then say like this this
- 00:38:36this this this and then we do something
- 00:38:38like that it if you find an ethical Gap
- 00:38:43uh you can find it in every part of
- 00:38:46design every part of creation every part
- 00:38:48of everything and AI is not out of this
- 00:38:52question but AI is not more evil than uh
- 00:38:56all the other
- 00:38:58you know processes so I think I'm just
- 00:39:01mixing mixing and matching mostly
- 00:39:04materials mostly like like sometimes uh
- 00:39:09like I want to you know say something
- 00:39:12and for for the Masters uh you know who
- 00:39:16was the prit scare Prize winners he's uh
- 00:39:20like I recent
- 00:39:23recent uh like the the was in a Japanese
- 00:39:27uh no not the before the um okay okay
- 00:39:31like he his style is let's not say names
- 00:39:35okay his style is mostly like conform
- 00:39:38making things less complicated less
- 00:39:41organic and less stuff and uh I find
- 00:39:45myself to uh sometimes make uh organic
- 00:39:50matter and organic stuff that goes too
- 00:39:53many uh crazy organic stuff and I use
- 00:39:57his name
- 00:40:01toer because it's the best way like also
- 00:40:05there's like Peter zoor but when I use
- 00:40:09Peter Zoom Tor it's like flatten
- 00:40:11everything like just makes a everything
- 00:40:14square and stuff but uh that Master I
- 00:40:18don't give the name because I don't
- 00:40:20remember that master's name is making
- 00:40:24everything less crazy and then I'm
- 00:40:27admitting it like I'm using his name to
- 00:40:29make things less
- 00:40:31crazy yeah yeah that that's so funny
- 00:40:33that you said that it is kind of like I
- 00:40:35never but it is kind of like using like
- 00:40:36a Pinterest in like some other more
- 00:40:38advanced way right or being able to like
- 00:40:41strike from Pinterest directly like the
- 00:40:43essence of like some images in text yeah
- 00:40:47most of my masters like I've learned and
- 00:40:50they just put uh magazines in front of
- 00:40:52us and then say like let's put it like
- 00:40:55that and then it it all works like that
- 00:40:57in the past and then it will work like
- 00:41:00that in the future if ethical law uh
- 00:41:04perspective yeah yeah and uh so so let's
- 00:41:07go a little bit into you have realized
- 00:41:10some Concepts um and uh how how does you
- 00:41:14how do you guys work together uh with
- 00:41:16you and your partner P um how do you
- 00:41:19guys work let's say as an architect
- 00:41:21practice to develop these Concepts or is
- 00:41:24it you're mostly testing ideas let's say
- 00:41:28sketching and then using the AI um
- 00:41:31writing a prompt like experien with that
- 00:41:34or do you guys come up with like a
- 00:41:36concept and then figure okay like let's
- 00:41:38try a few iterations and then if we like
- 00:41:41something we can curate or I guess like
- 00:41:44I'm trying to understand or get a better
- 00:41:47idea of like how is like the practice of
- 00:41:49AR from that perspective evolving with
- 00:41:52these
- 00:41:53tools yeah like for um for a single
- 00:41:56person it's uh mostly boring uh because
- 00:42:01you are producing too much AI stuff and
- 00:42:04then at one point I think I started you
- 00:42:07know because I'm All Tech oriented so I
- 00:42:11started using AI before parar and then
- 00:42:13she was like uh saying me like I'm
- 00:42:16showing I was showing her the AI
- 00:42:19reproductions and she was like um I
- 00:42:22don't know and then she was like not not
- 00:42:25approving it before
- 00:42:27but and then she
- 00:42:29said there is a I think she she wanted
- 00:42:33to try it because she said there's a
- 00:42:36better way maybe I can uh you know apply
- 00:42:40with the AI in architecture and I said
- 00:42:43like be my guest because I'm all lost uh
- 00:42:48because I'm like like producing
- 00:42:50thousands of images daily and then after
- 00:42:53producing thousands of images you don't
- 00:42:55understand what is good and what what is
- 00:42:57bad like because in architecture I think
- 00:43:00curation what is good and what is bad is
- 00:43:02mostly about curation you produce lots
- 00:43:05of stuff you see lots of stuff you need
- 00:43:08to understand what's good so that that
- 00:43:11is I think the most uh crucial uh part
- 00:43:15of architecture being a good
- 00:43:17architecture because being a good good
- 00:43:19architecture is knowing stuff like
- 00:43:21understanding stuff and then
- 00:43:23understanding your client and then
- 00:43:24giving them uh the uh more aesthetic or
- 00:43:29more uh you know responsible
- 00:43:33architecture in some way but I was lost
- 00:43:36and then she joined then she started
- 00:43:40traing and then I was like sometimes uh
- 00:43:43you know talking her about maybe not
- 00:43:46this way we can go this way like uh for
- 00:43:49for the projects but me and punar how we
- 00:43:53are working I think it's something like
- 00:43:56we changing the RS but it's something
- 00:43:58like what uh a generative AI you know
- 00:44:02engine is working a generative AI engine
- 00:44:05works like that uh an engine produces uh
- 00:44:08a part of it produces the image and then
- 00:44:11there's a
- 00:44:12discriminator and then sees the image is
- 00:44:15usable or not and then if it's usable it
- 00:44:18just shows it the the result so I think
- 00:44:23me andar has this discriminator and then
- 00:44:25produces uh you know relationship and
- 00:44:28then we changing the roles most most of
- 00:44:30the
- 00:44:31times so I produce I show it to her and
- 00:44:36for 90% of my Productions goes to waste
- 00:44:40because she says like no like we're
- 00:44:42we're not going with that because me for
- 00:44:45me I think I'm more on the maybe I'm
- 00:44:49more on the on the crazy sites than
- 00:44:52making uh you know
- 00:44:55buildings less may be applicable in the
- 00:44:58materiality and then uh in the in the
- 00:45:02usage so what you see in the Instagram
- 00:45:05is mostly punar is keeping me under
- 00:45:10under the the control and saying like
- 00:45:12Okay if you if we want to do something
- 00:45:15she's saying if you want to do something
- 00:45:16and then see show people uh we need to
- 00:45:20make some uh material research and then
- 00:45:24uh application research and then we need
- 00:45:27to make things uh in that direction so
- 00:45:31I'm producing some stuff and then I'm
- 00:45:32keeping it to myself and then it's just
- 00:45:35my hobby but for the Instagram it's
- 00:45:38mostly uh yes we go with the applicable
- 00:45:42with the materials and then the locali
- 00:45:46like we want to match it and then I
- 00:45:48think I'm getting used to more liking it
- 00:45:51because I we always have this small uh
- 00:45:55fights about
- 00:45:57I don't want to you know make too much
- 00:45:59uh you know applicable stuff I say
- 00:46:02sometimes but I think you can see in
- 00:46:04some projects that it gets a little bit
- 00:46:08uh you know research and then material
- 00:46:11research and then application research
- 00:46:13in some points so in that are that these
- 00:46:16are the points where I just pushed and
- 00:46:19then uh integrated some uh some things
- 00:46:23in there but it's mostly you know we're
- 00:46:25changing the roles some sometimes she
- 00:46:27comes with very crazy and I said like
- 00:46:31no I don't like that yeah yeah yeah it
- 00:46:35it works uh pretty well actually I think
- 00:46:39uh working single for
- 00:46:42AI it's so hard you need you need
- 00:46:45someone to talk about uh and then is it
- 00:46:49really good is it really um you know us
- 00:46:53yeah yeah yeah no and I think that's
- 00:46:57interesting and that makes sense in the
- 00:46:59way that I guess as Architects we have
- 00:47:00to be able to critic and it comes with
- 00:47:03like design aesthetic and and things
- 00:47:05like that and being able to deconstruct
- 00:47:07an image um so I think that process that
- 00:47:09you have back and forth essentially
- 00:47:11works well because you see some of the
- 00:47:12images on your profile uh and there's
- 00:47:15some buildings that even though like
- 00:47:17there's one that I really like on your
- 00:47:19profile uh that I always keep going back
- 00:47:21to it's kind of like this beach house
- 00:47:22but it's made like kind of like a
- 00:47:23concrete and it's like a concrete block
- 00:47:26and then it has like these little
- 00:47:27columns at the bottom right and it's
- 00:47:29like a beach house and you have like
- 00:47:30multiple iterations of that and even
- 00:47:32Interiors like these kind of vaulted
- 00:47:34like Arch interiors and I'm like oh like
- 00:47:36that's really cool like it it seems far
- 00:47:38out like a little bit like it does seems
- 00:47:40a little Fantastical but it gets to the
- 00:47:42point where you're like oh actually this
- 00:47:43could probably be constructed like if
- 00:47:46you really kind of like break it down
- 00:47:47into pieces um and to be able to arrive
- 00:47:50at that uh sort of like constructibility
- 00:47:53uh or like that sort of critique of like
- 00:47:56you know what is possible in
- 00:47:57architecture I think that's really
- 00:47:58important and I think your practice
- 00:48:00really kind of exemplifies that I guess
- 00:48:02with Pinar and how you guys critique
- 00:48:04your work um so that's really cool to
- 00:48:07see um and then I guess another question
- 00:48:09that I had for you was um now that
- 00:48:12you're you're actually getting these
- 00:48:14kind of like projects um or like
- 00:48:15commissions to to actually build some of
- 00:48:17these stuff
- 00:48:19um how do you essentially because you
- 00:48:22mentioned that you kind of do more of a
- 00:48:24a research materiality conceptual
- 00:48:26research
- 00:48:27if you're developing these proposals
- 00:48:28you're actually going with that are you
- 00:48:30developing kind of like your own
- 00:48:31strategy now for design based on
- 00:48:34Incorporated in the
- 00:48:36AI uh like let's talk about the the the
- 00:48:41latest project like uh I'm me and P
- 00:48:44working for the three months now
- 00:48:48so actually when we started with the
- 00:48:51client uh he didn't uh too much
- 00:48:55understand that we are working with AI
- 00:48:58with the with the ideas on our Instagram
- 00:49:01account and he kind of asked me to go
- 00:49:05with the flow and then do something and
- 00:49:07he doesn't want to you know
- 00:49:09intervene uh with the ideas so uh so it
- 00:49:15so it's name for me like uh in in in a
- 00:49:18big company like I as I said I'm half
- 00:49:21working with the big company and then
- 00:49:23I'm using AI for them and then they are
- 00:49:26really
- 00:49:27you know showing it to client and
- 00:49:29getting some results but it's not like I
- 00:49:33didn't try to combine AI from the
- 00:49:36beginning of a project and then try to
- 00:49:39act with it uh mostly so I just I think
- 00:49:44I kind of afraid so I started with
- 00:49:47normal architecture you know ways and
- 00:49:49stuff so normal modeling and normal
- 00:49:52things and then I just tried to enhance
- 00:49:55the
- 00:49:56the model with the with the AI uh you
- 00:49:59know rendering things and stuff but then
- 00:50:02uh my client asked me like okay I think
- 00:50:07this is a progress and then you need
- 00:50:09some time to uh give some other options
- 00:50:13and then uh Advance it but I'm seeing
- 00:50:16some stuff in your Instagram account
- 00:50:18that is so
- 00:50:20good why can't we you know do something
- 00:50:23like that how much time does it take and
- 00:50:26at that point I said like okay uh if I'm
- 00:50:30using my original idea and then try to
- 00:50:34uh develop it it will take at least two
- 00:50:37to three months to make a good concept
- 00:50:41out of that you can do it faster but I'm
- 00:50:43working two jobs right now because uh I
- 00:50:46don't want to you know get behind the uh
- 00:50:49big construction industry in that
- 00:50:52company I'm just working with lots of
- 00:50:54stuff and then big things going on but
- 00:50:57in my
- 00:50:58own company with we're trying to go
- 00:51:02start from the from the beginning from
- 00:51:05the basic things and stuff so I have
- 00:51:08limited time so I said like if you
- 00:51:12really like something out of these
- 00:51:15options just point it and then I'll try
- 00:51:18to you know adapt it so I tried that and
- 00:51:22then he sent me three options and then
- 00:51:24one of them is the the Sandy build you
- 00:51:27like he sent that and the one of the
- 00:51:31pink buildings I think designed and then
- 00:51:34one of the you know I I show it in the
- 00:51:36in the presentation and then I made some
- 00:51:40you know
- 00:51:40variations uh based on the actual
- 00:51:44dimensions and then ratios of the
- 00:51:47building because there's a limit like
- 00:51:50there is 8 m limit and stuff like that
- 00:51:53so I used like Photoshop Firefly
- 00:51:57that this lots of stuff and then for the
- 00:52:00first time I think when I finished with
- 00:52:02the design I said like okay this is an
- 00:52:05really AI enhanced uh you know design
- 00:52:09project because some of the stuff I
- 00:52:12didn't control I just let it and then
- 00:52:14some of the ratios and stuff I
- 00:52:17controlled and then I showed it to the
- 00:52:20to the client and he was like at that
- 00:52:22point he just sold he just uh you know
- 00:52:26uh accepted the concept and then we
- 00:52:28finished the conceptual phase at that
- 00:52:30point because it was like a we I think
- 00:52:34we have this agreement to finish it in
- 00:52:37ER one and a half months for the first
- 00:52:41and then it was like stuck in in one
- 00:52:44point he was saying like uh I need to
- 00:52:47see something different and then when I
- 00:52:49change it to to the AI you know
- 00:52:51rendering and enhanced stuff he just uh
- 00:52:55said said that's why I want thank you
- 00:52:58and let's finish the conceptual project
- 00:53:00and let's go to the design development
- 00:53:02process so it was a really you know and
- 00:53:06interesting uh point because I gave it
- 00:53:10as I said I I started with the games and
- 00:53:13then I like achievements so the
- 00:53:16achievement there is only capable I was
- 00:53:21capable to use Ai and I did that
- 00:53:24achievement with AI and then he paid me
- 00:53:27with with that and then I said like okay
- 00:53:30this is a realization of using AI in my
- 00:53:33design process so I did something I
- 00:53:36achieved something he uh he understand
- 00:53:40it he liked it and then he paid for it
- 00:53:43that I think that's the that's the point
- 00:53:45where I applied uh AI in the system but
- 00:53:50still as I said yesterday I lost uh
- 00:53:54andscape like I'm using andscape too
- 00:53:57much and then I lost andscape then I was
- 00:54:01I had to you know invent something
- 00:54:03because it's so hard that you know
- 00:54:05converting the basic image to that with
- 00:54:09the uh traditional rendering and stuff
- 00:54:13like because those materials are the
- 00:54:16materials that he chose like it's not
- 00:54:18like uh Hey AI do do me something like
- 00:54:22show me some material stuff some stuff I
- 00:54:25had 1 hour and then Escape crashed and
- 00:54:29then I just you know I think the
- 00:54:32adrenaline have effect on that so I used
- 00:54:36mid Journey Firefly stable diffusion
- 00:54:39everything like like stable diffusion I
- 00:54:42said like I sometimes L uh use lucx uh
- 00:54:46Lux is kind of making something but I
- 00:54:49think they're getting behind I want them
- 00:54:52to you know develop from here I'm saying
- 00:54:55my you
- 00:54:56develop look
- 00:54:58more uh so I think
- 00:55:01that's that's adal thing like I always
- 00:55:05find stuff when I'm stuck in somewhere
- 00:55:08and then too depressed and then I come
- 00:55:11up with something new and AI kind of
- 00:55:15worked in that
- 00:55:17point yeah no that's awesome hear and um
- 00:55:21I I think that's like very interesting
- 00:55:23that you can kind of see where certain
- 00:55:26software or certain parts of the
- 00:55:27workflow are being replaced or enhanced
- 00:55:31um and you you're you're now seeing it
- 00:55:33and and also I think the um you know
- 00:55:36this is kind of like another debate but
- 00:55:38like a lot of architecture now that
- 00:55:40people are seeing online can be
- 00:55:41generated by AI right not necessarily
- 00:55:44like traditional architect so clients
- 00:55:46are people that oh let me see like I
- 00:55:48want to build something like that image
- 00:55:50that they might not know that it's AI so
- 00:55:52now you kind of have to see it from that
- 00:55:54lens too and see kind of what the
- 00:55:56client's seeing and be able to
- 00:55:58manipulate based on that um what you're
- 00:56:01going to generate uh so uh o we're
- 00:56:04coming up to the hour and I wanted to
- 00:56:06ask you um what are like some of the
- 00:56:08most or like what what are some things
- 00:56:11about let's say where we are in
- 00:56:12architecture design say in tech and and
- 00:56:15this kind of industry um that you're
- 00:56:18most excited about like what like how do
- 00:56:20you see the industry evolving what are
- 00:56:22you excited about uh for yourself
- 00:56:26ER I think I'm most excited about let's
- 00:56:30say I'm I'm right now uh you know I said
- 00:56:33I have two jobs going on together
- 00:56:37without AI I think it it won't be
- 00:56:39possible like this is not not something
- 00:56:42I can manage without using AI so in the
- 00:56:47future uh I hope that AI G gave us some
- 00:56:51space to uh stop and think about maybe
- 00:56:55design philosophy like uh conceptual
- 00:56:59design like conceptual design is not
- 00:57:02always uh like making a fancy building
- 00:57:06conceptual design is Mo mostly about
- 00:57:09context usually and then so it needs to
- 00:57:13thinking about it and and then uh like
- 00:57:17sketching and other things so I'm
- 00:57:21excited about this things that taking
- 00:57:24the very things that I don't like to do
- 00:57:29I don't like to you know do the Revit
- 00:57:32thing the be thing the I don't actually
- 00:57:34like coding like because for me coding
- 00:57:38is like I like coding in the uh in a as
- 00:57:42a technologist I like coding the idea of
- 00:57:44coding but coding is something that you
- 00:57:47talk to the computer with its language
- 00:57:51not your language coding is the
- 00:57:54computer's language so we need to start
- 00:57:58talking with our language to the
- 00:58:01computer and then computer needs to
- 00:58:03understand it at at one point so I'm
- 00:58:07excited about that so I want to dialogue
- 00:58:11with the with the machine so it
- 00:58:13understand me so I can leave stuff to to
- 00:58:16the machine and then I go sketch think
- 00:58:20right and then I go talk to people V
- 00:58:24Architects just you know go into our
- 00:58:27boxes and then try to finish a building
- 00:58:30finish an idea finish
- 00:58:32an ideology and stuff and then when we
- 00:58:36came out there ER the the ideas changed
- 00:58:40the word changed as I said like the uh
- 00:58:43in the Dubai they just write down uh
- 00:58:47something about a design brief in
- 00:58:502017 for the whole island and they said
- 00:58:53this is the Contemporary and right now
- 00:58:55in we are in
- 00:58:582024 the Contemporary of the Dubai
- 00:59:01itself it changed not Dubai the world
- 00:59:05changed the vernacular hit hit the world
- 00:59:08and then people are using brick Ceramics
- 00:59:12and then all kinds of you know beautiful
- 00:59:14stuff around and then in that brief it
- 00:59:17says these are old materials and it
- 00:59:20shouldn't be used for modern buildings
- 00:59:23uh like Architects are some missing the
- 00:59:26point too much so we need to leave this
- 00:59:30stuff to technology uh to the machines
- 00:59:33I'm expecting that in the future more so
- 00:59:37we can go out and see the world itself
- 00:59:40see the world understand the world and
- 00:59:42then touch something like rock and stuff
- 00:59:45and then if you want to use a rock you
- 00:59:47need to at least touch it in the natural
- 00:59:50you know Reserve uh before using that
- 00:59:54that that's what I'm expecting I
- 00:59:56think awesome um and then finally I
- 01:00:00guess um usually close with this some
- 01:00:03final words of advice uh to maybe young
- 01:00:06Architects or designers uh that are
- 01:00:08coming up in this era about the use of
- 01:00:10Technologies or just architecture in
- 01:00:12general that you would like to share
- 01:00:13with
- 01:00:15them uh I think I may sound like my old
- 01:00:20the people older than me but I need to
- 01:00:23you know pass the uh flag a little bit
- 01:00:26to younger
- 01:00:28generation um I know that you don't want
- 01:00:32you don't want to work for free and
- 01:00:35stuff and then don't work for free for
- 01:00:37people and stuff but uh if you do want
- 01:00:40to do uh good in architecture you need
- 01:00:44to work harder so if you want your work
- 01:00:48to pay
- 01:00:49off either do it for
- 01:00:52yourself or either do it for people
- 01:00:57that has too much expertise uh in the
- 01:01:00industry that's kind of not the thing I
- 01:01:04don't I don't want to say this usually
- 01:01:07to young people but they are afraid of
- 01:01:11you know working at least uh one year in
- 01:01:15a company right now they just come to
- 01:01:17the companies and then they say like um
- 01:01:20no that's not my um I don't like it yeah
- 01:01:25like architecture
- 01:01:26as I said uh in the future maybe it will
- 01:01:29change but architecture is not something
- 01:01:32you like most of the time so just bear
- 01:01:37with us and a bit
- 01:01:40more and at least work uh just finish a
- 01:01:44year finish a project finish something
- 01:01:46because if you don't finish it if you
- 01:01:48don't see it end to the to the end you
- 01:01:51don't understand like you don't see
- 01:01:54anything and then you are a collection
- 01:01:56of
- 01:01:57Unfinished uh you know things that
- 01:02:00coming together and then at some point
- 01:02:03you will feel uh you know
- 01:02:06unaccomplished uh achievement is
- 01:02:08something like for me uh from for me to
- 01:02:13uh from me to Young
- 01:02:15Generation uh try to achieve something
- 01:02:18finish it make a check mark and then
- 01:02:21move out maybe first don't leave things
- 01:02:24don't ghost uh
- 01:02:26don't ghost people and then go away
- 01:02:29let's finish it something and then I
- 01:02:31think it will be uh better for maybe
- 01:02:35you're being a good architecture in a
- 01:02:37way I sound like my old people here but
- 01:02:42I'm sorry no it's it's good advice
- 01:02:44though it's it's wisdom that's what you
- 01:02:46would call it's wisdom right um all
- 01:02:50right awesome uh ozan thank you so much
- 01:02:52for joining I really enjoy the
- 01:02:53presentation and the conversation um and
- 01:02:57uh I really enjoy seeing you guys' work
- 01:03:00and how it has evolved over like the
- 01:03:02last you know year and a half or so that
- 01:03:04I've been following you guys um and I'm
- 01:03:07looking forward to seeing more I I
- 01:03:08actually I really want to see some of
- 01:03:10your work being constructed so I hope
- 01:03:12like in in a few years from now we'll
- 01:03:14see these little buildings being
- 01:03:16constructed around the world um I'm I'm
- 01:03:18excited to see that um I I think what
- 01:03:21you guys are doing is is definitely
- 01:03:22taking like a unique stand in in this
- 01:03:24kind of approach
- 01:03:26um so I find it really unique and yeah I
- 01:03:29I wish you the best of luck and hope we
- 01:03:31get to see more of these buildings being
- 01:03:33constructed thank you Daniel it was so
- 01:03:36fun like we always need to talk to each
- 01:03:39other about what we're doing and what we
- 01:03:42see the word and then I like uh your
- 01:03:44collection and also diffusion
- 01:03:46architecture it always somewhere I check
- 01:03:49all the time first to see what's new and
- 01:03:52what's going on thank you for inviting
- 01:03:54me all right awesome all right thank you
- 01:03:57all have a great rest of your
- 01:04:00weekend bye bye see you later bye bye
