Cronología

  • 00:00:00 - 00:08:10

As WWDC approaches, leaks about iPad OS 19 suggest it will become more like Mac OS, focusing on improved productivity, multitasking, and app window management. However, many users feel that Apple should simply integrate Mac OS into iPads instead of gradually making iPad OS resemble it. The files app is also criticized, with suggestions to incorporate Finder from Mac OS. Overall, expectations for significant changes are tempered, especially since iPad OS is already undergoing a design overhaul. Moving on to iOS 19, new renders indicate a visual redesign, including circular icons inspired by Vision OS, a pill-shaped tab bar for better reachability, and a more glass-like aesthetic. While some welcome these changes, concerns about potential bugs and stability arise. Additionally, Apple plans to drop support for older devices like the iPhone XS and XR with the new updates, while the iPad 7 will also lose support, despite the iPad 8 remaining compatible. This raises questions about the longevity of older iPhones compared to iPads.

as we get closer to WWDC the leaks keep
  • 00:00:02
on coming about this year's software
  • 00:00:04
updates And first up is iPad OS So it
  • 00:00:06
seems every year we hear about iPad OS
  • 00:00:08
becoming more like Mac OS And this year
  • 00:00:10
is no different with Mark German giving
  • 00:00:12
us the same promises German says
  • 00:00:14
there'll be three main changes with iPad
  • 00:00:16
OS 19 to make it more like Mac OS And
  • 00:00:19
    that's improved productivity improved
  • 00:00:21
    multitasking and improved app window
  • 00:00:24
management which is quite a vague list
  • 00:00:27
    of changes What does improved
  • 00:00:29
productivity even mean honestly at the
  • 00:00:31
end of the day the list of changes
  • 00:00:33
people want to see with iPad OS will be
  • 00:00:35
so vast Apple's just better off putting
  • 00:00:37
Mac OS on the iPads For example with
  • 00:00:39
    improved multitasking and app window
  • 00:00:41
management many would just want Apple to
  • 00:00:43
ditch stage manager and use the window
  • 00:00:45
management system Mac OS has And so if
  • 00:00:47
iPad OS is becoming more like Mac OS you
  • 00:00:49
might as well throw Mac OS on this
  • 00:00:51
Another aspect that many would like
  • 00:00:53
Apple to change with iPad OS is the
  • 00:00:55
files app for example It's not too great
  • 00:00:57
And so to solve this Apple could add
  • 00:00:58
Finder from Mac OS to the iPads which is
  • 00:01:01
why again it's easier to just chuck Mac
  • 00:01:03
OS on this I know not everyone uses the
  • 00:01:05
iPad as a laptop replacement And so
  • 00:01:07
Apple could make this an option where it
  • 00:01:08
can dual boot iPad OS and Mac OS So yeah
  • 00:01:11
I don't see the point in iPad OS slowly
  • 00:01:13
becoming more like Mac OS And also as I
  • 00:01:16
said we do hear such things every year I
  • 00:01:19
feel like ever since we saw the M1 in
  • 00:01:20
the iPad Pro we've been waiting for
  • 00:01:22
Apple to do something with all this
  • 00:01:24
power but they've been slow to give us
  • 00:01:26
new software features And so I would
  • 00:01:28
keep expectations low guys iPad S
  • 00:01:30
already is getting a design overhaul
  • 00:01:32
which I'll delve later into And so I
  • 00:01:34
would not be surprised if functionally
  • 00:01:36
it's not very different But if Apple
  • 00:01:38
does want to bless us with a meaningful
  • 00:01:39
change please give us Mac OS on the
  • 00:01:42
iPads You know what else would be
  • 00:01:43
    meaningful clicking that subscribe
  • 00:01:45
button Of course it's free and I'm
  • 00:01:46
bringing the latest about Apple right to
  • 00:01:48
subscription box So please consider it
  • 00:01:50
It would be appreciated Join the
  • 00:01:52
surround gang now Anyway let's move on
  • 00:01:54
to iOS 19 because we have new renders
  • 00:01:57
that show us the UI overhaul to expect
  • 00:01:59
So earlier leaker John Pro had showed us
  • 00:02:01
the redesigned camera UI the new lock
  • 00:02:03
screen where the notifications are more
  • 00:02:05
    translucent and there's a more 3D
  • 00:02:07
floating look for the toggles settings
  • 00:02:08
and pop-up with a more glassy aesthetic
  • 00:02:10
imitating Vision OS and a redesigned
  • 00:02:12
keyboard where it almost creates this
  • 00:02:14
illusion of it floating But I'll be
  • 00:02:16
honest I was expecting a bit more And
  • 00:02:18
thankfully John Prosa now shares more
  • 00:02:20
renders that show us a more drastic
  • 00:02:22
visual redesign And namely we see
  • 00:02:24
circular icons in these new renders
  • 00:02:26
which have been taken directly from
  • 00:02:27
Vision OS John Bros had actually first
  • 00:02:29
told us in the builds he saw he couldn't
  • 00:02:31
see evidence of rounder icons However it
  • 00:02:34
    seems Apple's hiding this element
  • 00:02:35
because in current builds if you long
  • 00:02:37
press on a squirkle icon it becomes
  • 00:02:39
rounder after a brief animation Maybe
  • 00:02:41
Apple's hiding the new icons in builds
  • 00:02:43
to prevent leaks but clearly that plan
  • 00:02:45
did not work because it has leaked and
  • 00:02:47
so Tim's now very angry But I do like
  • 00:02:49
the look of this Yes it's just different
  • 00:02:51
    shaped icons and doesn't functionally
  • 00:02:54
add anything whatsoever but I'm always
  • 00:02:56
down for visual refreshes that are
  • 00:02:57
executed well and this looks clean in my
  • 00:03:00
opinion Apple could of course give
  • 00:03:01
consumers a choice and similar to
  • 00:03:03
Android devices it would be nice if you
  • 00:03:05
    could switch between squirrel and
  • 00:03:06
circular icons but this is Apple we're
  • 00:03:08
talking about and they want design
  • 00:03:09
    consistency and I'm expecting everyone
  • 00:03:12
to be forced to use these new icons
  • 00:03:14
whether you like it or not But
  • 00:03:15
personally I'm not against that because
  • 00:03:18
these icons are very cool in my opinion
  • 00:03:20
Another UI change to expect is a
  • 00:03:21
pill-shaped tab bar at the bottom of
  • 00:03:23
many of Apple's first party applications
  • 00:03:26
You can see how it looks And it seems
  • 00:03:28
Apple's going to be prioritizing putting
  • 00:03:29
a lot of tabs towards the bottom of the
  • 00:03:31
device which is great for reachability
  • 00:03:33
especially for those using the Pro Max
  • 00:03:35
and having to do hand gymnastics right
  • 00:03:36
now to reach some areas of the UI Also
  • 00:03:39
Apple's rounding off everything So if
  • 00:03:41
you long press on an app the menu that
  • 00:03:42
comes up is rounder There's new sliders
  • 00:03:44
for volume and brightness in the control
  • 00:03:46
center and also the settings page now
  • 00:03:48
has slimmer toggles There's also a
  • 00:03:50
subtle lighting effect to some elements
  • 00:03:52
that help create a glass-like appearance
  • 00:03:54
So for example the flashlight camera
  • 00:03:56
controls on the lock screen shimmer as
  • 00:03:58
you move the iPhone which sounds pretty
  • 00:04:00
cool So overall I actually love this Yes
  • 00:04:02
I'm an Apple sheep who's quite easily
  • 00:04:04
impressed by new fancy icons but iOS has
  • 00:04:06
looked the same for a while and so I'm
  • 00:04:08
glad to see a visual overhaul that will
  • 00:04:10
make your iPhone feel fresh And yes I
  • 00:04:11
know some may argue we don't need a
  • 00:04:13
redesign to iOS we need stability In
  • 00:04:15
fact I have a feeling Apple's giving us
  • 00:04:17
this major overhaul to distract us from
  • 00:04:18
    the fact Apple intelligence Siri
  • 00:04:20
features have been delayed And honestly
  • 00:04:22
it's a good distraction because whilst
  • 00:04:24
air features in iOS may eventually get
  • 00:04:27
    useful they certainly aren't a must-h
  • 00:04:29
have feature right now Whereas design
  • 00:04:31
changes to the UI something you would
  • 00:04:32
appreciate every single day My only
  • 00:04:34
concern is bugs I really hope it's not
  • 00:04:36
too buggy but if Apple's changing so
  • 00:04:38
much with iOS 19 you just know those
  • 00:04:40
first builds are going to be rough But
  • 00:04:41
hopefully the public builds are stable
  • 00:04:44
    However knowing Apple's software quality
  • 00:04:45
as of late I may be asking too much Now
  • 00:04:48
by the way it's not just Bruss claiming
  • 00:04:50
there will be a redesign we have had
  • 00:04:51
other leakers chiming in as well Last
  • 00:04:54
year the Verify actually had first
  • 00:04:55
mentioned this but they said it would
  • 00:04:57
come to iOS 18 which is wrong of course
  • 00:04:59
Then John Proar talking about a possible
  • 00:05:01
redesign and finally Mark Gur's chiming
  • 00:05:03
in and suggesting the same Having said
  • 00:05:05
Apple's goal is to make Apple's various
  • 00:05:07
    software platforms more consistent in
  • 00:05:09
design And so that means we're going to
  • 00:05:11
see these design changes with iPad OS
  • 00:05:13
Mac OS and also Watch OS That's good
  • 00:05:16
because it is odd that we got the big S
  • 00:05:17
redesign in 2020 for Mac OS but those
  • 00:05:20
redesigned icons never came to the
  • 00:05:21
iPhone or iPads And so I'm hoping all
  • 00:05:23
platforms are based on vision OS and we
  • 00:05:26
have the same general look across all
  • 00:05:27
devices And G also kept emphasizing that
  • 00:05:30
Apple plans to change everything the
  • 00:05:32
style of icons menus apps windows system
  • 00:05:34
buttons The company is also going to
  • 00:05:36
simplify the way users navigate and
  • 00:05:38
control their devices The changes go
  • 00:05:40
well beyond a new design language and
  • 00:05:42
aesthetic tweaks according to German But
  • 00:05:44
unlike John Pro he did not show us
  • 00:05:45
anything specific I do want to mention
  • 00:05:47
though Gur has doubts over process leaks
  • 00:05:50
but what they both say does line up for
  • 00:05:52
the most part The only aspect we haven't
  • 00:05:54
seen yet are the ways functionality of
  • 00:05:56
the UI could change The renders John
  • 00:05:58
showed are mostly aesthetic changes but
  • 00:06:00
with such a big redesign I'm sure
  • 00:06:01
there's going to be a few functionality
  • 00:06:03
changes that hopefully don't bulk our
  • 00:06:05
devices Let's move on to the devices
  • 00:06:07
which will be running iOS 19 and iPad OS
  • 00:06:09
    19 this September And unfortunately
  • 00:06:11
there is bad news So because iOS 19 is
  • 00:06:14
going to be such a substantial update
  • 00:06:16
Apple is apparently planning to drop the
  • 00:06:17
iPhone XS 10S Max and 10R according to a
  • 00:06:20
    credible anonymous source These devices
  • 00:06:22
were released way back in 2018 So
  • 00:06:24
they've already had roughly 6 years of
  • 00:06:26
support So I'm not too surprised by this
  • 00:06:28
The 10R specially only has 3 gigs of RAM
  • 00:06:31
So for those still using these devices
  • 00:06:33
just be aware your device may lose
  • 00:06:34
support very soon Now obviously these
  • 00:06:36
phones not getting iOS 19 does not
  • 00:06:38
suddenly make them unusable Apple does
  • 00:06:40
    still release security updates for
  • 00:06:42
devices on older iOS versions and so you
  • 00:06:44
    could theoretically keep using these
  • 00:06:46
phones for a little longer but
  • 00:06:47
eventually apps will stop supporting iOS
  • 00:06:49
18 and you're also going to miss out on
  • 00:06:51
your features you would want to try out
  • 00:06:53
Now moving on to iPad OS 19 Apple plans
  • 00:06:56
to only drop the iPad 7th generation
  • 00:06:58
which has the A10 Fusion from 2016 That
  • 00:07:01
is a crazy old chipset but what's funny
  • 00:07:02
is that the iPad 8 generation which has
  • 00:07:04
the A12 that Apple's dropping from the
  • 00:07:07
iPhone range is still going to be
  • 00:07:08
supported This has already happened in
  • 00:07:11
the past because the iPhone 7 which had
  • 00:07:12
the A10 did not get iOS 16 whereas the
  • 00:07:15
iPad 7 with the same A10 got iPad OS 16
  • 00:07:18
17 and 18 So it seems Apple's just happy
  • 00:07:21
    supporting these iPads for longer
  • 00:07:22
because they did launch a couple of
  • 00:07:24
years after these iPhones Does that mean
  • 00:07:27
theoretically the iPhone 10R 10s could
  • 00:07:29
run iOS 19 if the iPad 8 generation is
  • 00:07:32
getting iPad OS 19 maybe that the iPad 7
  • 00:07:36
generation was very sluggish on iPad OS
  • 00:07:38
18 And so there's a possibility the iPad
  • 00:07:40
8 generation also suffers on iPad OS 19
  • 00:07:43
We will have to wait and see Anyway let
