00:00:00
hi and welcome to the Sewing Studio I'm
00:00:03
Anna and in this video I am going to
00:00:06
take you through the brother inovis
00:00:09
a150 I'm going to talk about its
00:00:11
features and functions show you what
00:00:13
comes in the Box get it threaded do some
00:00:16
sewing show you its capabilities and
00:00:19
then talk a bit about warranty and the
00:00:21
support you get when purchasing with us
00:00:23
here at The Sewing Studio now we've
00:00:26
split all of those into chapters so if
00:00:27
there's one particular section you're
00:00:29
interested in
00:00:30
feel free just to jump straight ahead to
00:00:32
that so the brother inovis a150 is a
00:00:36
computerized machine and it's of
00:00:38
standard size meaning that it's got 6 in
00:00:41
of space to the right of the needle it
00:00:44
comes with a generous 150 Stitch options
00:00:48
and those are all detailed on this card
00:00:51
which neatly slots on the top there and
00:00:55
within those stitches you'll find a mix
00:00:57
of utility stitches including 10
00:00:59
different styles of one step button hole
00:01:02
decorative stitches blanket stitches
00:01:04
satin stitches as well as some fonts
00:01:07
however they are uppercase only and all
00:01:10
these stitches are very simply selected
00:01:13
on this touch pad here and then
00:01:15
represented on the LCD screen you have
00:01:18
the ability to change the length and the
00:01:20
width of the Stitch and the maximum
00:01:23
Stitch width on this machine is 7
00:01:26
mm now it has some automatic features
00:01:30
and that includes the automatic thread
00:01:32
cutter and an automatic needle threader
00:01:35
really really easy and I'll show you
00:01:37
that when we get to the threading
00:01:38
section now it comes with a foot pedal
00:01:41
you don't have to use a foot pedal there
00:01:43
is a start stop button but you do have
00:01:45
the ability to control your speed
00:01:47
regardless of if you're on the start
00:01:49
stop button or using the foot pedal
00:01:51
you've also got needle up needle down
00:01:53
and you can set that so that the needle
00:01:55
stays in your work when you stop sewing
00:01:58
or it comes up whichever you prefer
00:02:00
you've got a locking Stitch and your
00:02:03
reverse up here is where you would
00:02:05
adjust your thread
00:02:08
tension it's drop in bobbing system so
00:02:11
you just drop it in and it's very easy
00:02:13
to thread and you can see when it's
00:02:15
running out also has the quick set
00:02:17
feature so there's no need to draw up
00:02:19
the bobbing
00:02:20
thread the presser foot has the lever
00:02:23
here and that has an extra lift for any
00:02:25
bulky
00:02:27
items and you can drop the feed dogs for
00:02:29
any free motion
00:02:31
work there's also a free arm so if we
00:02:34
pop that off you've got your free arm
00:02:36
there and then there's storage in the
00:02:38
front of the machine for all the
00:02:40
different feet and accessories that come
00:02:42
with the
00:02:43
machine now the feet that come with it
00:02:46
are the standard one that's already on
00:02:47
the
00:02:48
machine zipper
00:02:50
foot
00:02:52
overcasting blind
00:02:55
hem
00:02:57
monogramming one for sewing on
00:03:01
buttons One Step button hole foot and a
00:03:04
range of accessories with a Handy
00:03:06
Storage pouch you also have your foot
00:03:09
control power lead and an instruction
00:03:12
manual and lastly it does come with hard
00:03:16
cover now this machine weighs about 6.6
00:03:20
kilos um so nice and lightweight to
00:03:22
transport around and this will help keep
00:03:24
it safe and also when you're storing it
00:03:26
away now if you're wondering what
00:03:28
happens to this when the covers on that
00:03:30
just sits very neatly at the back next
00:03:33
I'm going to show you how to thread the
00:03:35
machine and show you its
00:03:38
capabilities threading is very
00:03:40
straightforward and similar to most
00:03:42
sewing machines and everything is
00:03:44
numbered for you so it's really quite
00:03:46
hard to get it wrong so just pop your
00:03:49
spool on and then a spool
00:03:51
cap and then you're going to go number
00:03:54
one two
00:03:57
3 4
00:04:00
five and number six is the last guide
00:04:03
just above the needle and then for the
00:04:06
needle threader you just go up in there
00:04:09
and under number seven and there is a
00:04:12
slight click there that you might not be
00:04:13
able to hear and then watch this you
00:04:16
come down with the
00:04:18
lever and your needle's threaded it is
00:04:20
like
00:04:24
magic for the bobin you want the tail of
00:04:27
thread to be to the
00:04:28
left pop the cover
00:04:31
off drop that in and then there's a
00:04:34
little arrow that's telling you to go
00:04:36
under there so in and
00:04:39
around around the quick set and as I say
00:04:42
there's no need to draw up the bobbing
00:04:43
thread but you can if you want
00:04:47
to so when you first switch the machine
00:04:50
on it will default to a standard
00:04:52
straight Stitch I've just got a piece of
00:04:55
cotton here just in two layers so let me
00:04:58
show you how you can control the speed
00:05:01
so let's drop that down so at the moment
00:05:03
I'm on the slowest speed
00:05:07
setting and to reverse you just keep
00:05:10
your finger on
00:05:12
it and then come forward again and as
00:05:16
you can see slow is really quite slow
00:05:18
and very manageable
00:05:23
Midway and then up to
00:05:25
[Music]
00:05:27
high which is really quite fast and as I
00:05:30
say there's 850 stitches per
00:05:34
[Music]
00:05:39
minute and there you have your straight
00:05:41
Stitch that's the
00:05:42
top and then that's the
00:05:45
bottom the stitches are separated out
00:05:48
into individual folders and then you
00:05:50
also have direct press to the most
00:05:54
commonly used stitches here so I'm going
00:05:56
to switch to a zigzag so I can just very
00:05:58
simply press number five and I'm on a
00:06:01
zigzag and because it's a computerized
00:06:04
machine it's already defaulted the width
00:06:06
and the length to what it deems to be a
00:06:10
standard zigzag Stitch but of course you
00:06:12
can change those if you want to by going
00:06:15
up and down on the arrows
00:06:19
there so with the zigzag Stitch I'm
00:06:21
going to show you the Locking Stitch
00:06:23
function so sometimes when you're
00:06:25
reversing to secure the stitch on a
00:06:27
zigzag it can look a bit messy um at
00:06:30
either end whereas when you use the
00:06:33
Locking Stitch
00:06:35
button it just sews few stitches on the
00:06:40
spot and then you can carry on
00:06:50
[Music]
00:06:54
sewing and then you press it again at
00:06:56
the end to do a few stitches before it
00:06:58
stops sewing
00:07:03
and you can see how it's nice and neat
00:07:05
at both ends rather than having the bulk
00:07:07
of the reverse and that's secured at
00:07:10
either end and that's the
00:07:13
underneath so let's take a look at a
00:07:15
decorative Stitch and I can also show
00:07:17
you then a second feature of the Locking
00:07:19
Stitch button so I'll go to the
00:07:22
decorative folder and let's go for some
00:07:28
bees so I'm going to start
00:07:43
[Music]
00:07:57
sewing and you'll notice I press the
00:08:00
button and the Machine carried on sewing
00:08:02
before it stops and that's because that
00:08:05
button is also a patent
00:08:07
end so the machine will carry on sewing
00:08:10
forgot to cut my threads off the machine
00:08:13
will carry on sewing until it gets to
00:08:15
the very end of a pattern and then that
00:08:17
avoids you kind of getting to the end
00:08:19
and just having half a
00:08:22
symbol now those bees Stitch out this
00:08:25
way and what you can do is mirror image
00:08:28
it so in the
00:08:30
settings go to the page with mirror
00:08:33
image you go down to there and put that
00:08:36
on okay you may now notice that the be's
00:08:39
are upside down on the screen and when I
00:08:41
Stitch these out they'll be in the
00:08:44
opposite
00:08:58
direction
00:09:12
[Music]
00:09:14
there you go and you can see how they're
00:09:16
facing the opposite
00:09:18
way moving on to the fonts first I'm
00:09:22
going to take the mirror Stitch
00:09:27
off okay and then go to the font folder
00:09:31
I don't want the B's however you could
00:09:33
if you wanted to you can program a
00:09:34
sequence you could have a b and then the
00:09:36
word b and then another B at the end um
00:09:39
that's too far too many B's but I know
00:09:41
what I mean so let's just type the
00:09:44
word b in there and I will show you what
00:09:47
that stitches out
00:09:58
like
00:10:12
[Music]
00:10:19
and there you have the word b now each
00:10:22
letter is secured individually so if you
00:10:24
want to take out these joining stitches
00:10:26
you can and the letters will stay firmly
00:10:28
in place
00:10:30
and they are the full width so they're 7
00:10:32
mm in height and as I say only capital
00:10:35
letters but there are numbers and
00:10:37
special characters and
00:10:39
things before I move on to a couple of
00:10:41
different types of fabric let's have a
00:10:43
look at the onstep buttton hole as I say
00:10:46
there's 10 different options to choose
00:10:47
from depending on the type of fabric
00:10:49
you're using I've still got the cotton
00:10:51
so I'm just going to do a standard
00:10:53
button hole which is cancel these out a
00:10:56
minute hang on back in the utility and
00:10:59
Stitch number 61 I've popped the button
00:11:02
hole foot on and brought the sensor down
00:11:05
so I'm just going to pop my fabric
00:11:06
underneath and let it do its
00:11:13
[Music]
00:11:24
[Music]
00:11:28
thing
00:11:32
[Music]
00:11:37
and there you have your nice neat button
00:11:39
hole both top and
00:11:43
underneath within the range of stitches
00:11:45
there are of course stretch stitches
00:11:48
which is very handy for sewing something
00:11:49
like this stretch Jersey that I've got
00:11:51
here so I've popped a jersey Needle on
00:11:54
the machine and having worked with this
00:11:56
fabric before I know that the triple
00:11:58
straight Stitch is the best stitch for
00:12:00
this fabric so there's a direct dial to
00:12:03
it there so I can just choose the direct
00:12:06
and go straight to number seven which is
00:12:07
the triple straight
00:12:28
Stitch
00:12:31
going for a bit of full speed action
00:12:34
there and you can see how lovely and
00:12:36
flat that sits there's no waviness on
00:12:38
there at all and you can stretch the
00:12:41
fabric with that
00:12:43
Stitch and the seam is nice and stretchy
00:12:46
as
00:12:48
well lastly let's take a look and see
00:12:51
how the machine cops on the thicker side
00:12:53
of fabric so I've got some denim here so
00:12:56
I've popped a jeans Needle on the
00:12:57
machine and I'm going to go back to a
00:13:00
standard straight Stitch and because
00:13:02
this is thicker than what we've been
00:13:03
using I'm going to increase the Stitch
00:13:05
length just
00:13:12
[Music]
00:13:17
slightly and yeah that's no problem at
00:13:20
all for this machine nice neat Stitch
00:13:24
underneath as well and the seam is nice
00:13:27
and tight so let's double that
00:13:31
over and go through four
00:13:49
layers now you can hear it's working
00:13:51
slightly harder which is what you'd
00:13:53
expect there it is there still sewn it
00:13:56
with no problem at all top and bottom no
00:13:59
skip stitches and the seam is really
00:14:03
secure so let's go once more and double
00:14:06
it over
00:14:07
again so we're on eight layers now
00:14:11
excuse me so I'm going to pop the speed
00:14:13
down just slightly to help it navigate
00:14:15
and increase the Stitch length just a
00:14:18
little bit
00:14:19
higher extra press of foot lift to get
00:14:22
that in
00:14:26
[Music]
00:14:28
underneath
00:14:32
that genuinely is not a problem for this
00:14:35
machine nice neat Stitch again that's
00:14:37
the row there no skip stitches and it's
00:14:41
super super
00:14:44
secure so I hope that gives you an
00:14:46
insight into the capabilities of the
00:14:48
brother inovis
00:14:50
a150 it also comes with three-year
00:14:53
warranty and there's a card in the box
00:14:55
that tells you all about that and don't
