- 00:00:02uploading process and settings I use
- 00:00:04that have helped me go on to get videos
- 00:00:06like this almost 4 million views this
- 00:00:08one 2 million views this one 3 million
- 00:00:10views this one 1.9 million views you get
- 00:00:12the idea now I've got the social proof
- 00:00:14out of the way let me just show you
- 00:00:16exactly what we do step by step in depth
- 00:00:18and make the best YouTube video
- 00:00:20uploading tutorial on the internet so
- 00:00:22first thing you're going to do to upload
- 00:00:23your video is come to YouTube obviously
- 00:00:25you need to be signed in hit this button
- 00:00:27hit upload a video pretty
- 00:00:28straightforward I have already done that
- 00:00:30and you can see I have a video being
- 00:00:32uploaded or has uploaded right here the
- 00:00:34first thing we're going to look at is
- 00:00:35the title now we're going to get on to
- 00:00:37some of the more advanced settings and
- 00:00:39cool fun stuff later but we need to
- 00:00:41spend some time on the title here
- 00:00:42because the title is incredibly
- 00:00:44important for a number of reasons first
- 00:00:45myth I want to bust there have been
- 00:00:46people around here saying that the file
- 00:00:48name of your video which is often
- 00:00:50reflected in the title impacts your SEO
- 00:00:52and how well your video rank that is a
- 00:00:53complete lie ignore anyone who says that
- 00:00:55but what does matter to SEO is your
- 00:00:58video title itself so if you want to
- 00:01:00rank your video in search getting this
- 00:01:02right is the most impactful thing you
- 00:01:03can do the thing is though not every
- 00:01:06video is designed to get the majority of
- 00:01:08its views from YouTube search so let me
- 00:01:10give you an example let's go this video
- 00:01:12that I showed you earlier this is a
- 00:01:14video where I say I bought 5 million
- 00:01:15YouTube views here's what happened now
- 00:01:17when you think about this this video has
- 00:01:19got 2 million people to watch it but not
- 00:01:21many of those people are probably going
- 00:01:23to YouTube search and typing in I bought
- 00:01:255 million views blah blah blah so
- 00:01:26instead most people probably would have
- 00:01:28found this on their YouTube homepage dra
- 00:01:30their next up and as you can see here if
- 00:01:31I go into traffic sources you can see
- 00:01:33that this is correct right only 5% of my
- 00:01:35viewers actually came from YouTube
- 00:01:38search so why does this matter well it
- 00:01:40means that if your video is the kind of
- 00:01:42thing that's not going to be found
- 00:01:44through YouTube search and something
- 00:01:46like I bought 5 million views or I
- 00:01:48discovered this crazy challenge or
- 00:01:50whatever it is something that people
- 00:01:51probably aren't going to be searching
- 00:01:52for you don't need to worry about
- 00:01:53including any keywords or SEO stuff here
- 00:01:56just focus on making this title as
- 00:01:58clickable as possible possible the more
- 00:02:00clickable it is the more likely it is
- 00:02:02the algorithm is going to promote that
- 00:02:03video to viewers on the homepage un
- 00:02:05reccommended and your video is going to
- 00:02:06get a lot of views however if your video
- 00:02:09is the kind of video that is likely for
- 00:02:11people to search for it so tutorial
- 00:02:12videos are a good example of this like
- 00:02:14how to change a light bulb for instance
- 00:02:16in those sort of instances it's very
- 00:02:18important that you get keywords right
- 00:02:20because otherwise your VI is not going
- 00:02:21to show up and the reason I'm telling
- 00:02:22you all this here is creating the right
- 00:02:24title that's going to get you the most
- 00:02:25amount of views really depends on the
- 00:02:27type of video you're posting and you
- 00:02:29need to evaluate your video figure out
- 00:02:31which of the two buckets I've just
- 00:02:32mentioned it best fits in and then write
- 00:02:34your title accordingly I might turn gain
- 00:02:36into get because I'm a dumb Australian
- 00:02:38who doesn't like long fancy words then I
- 00:02:40might come over here and type get
- 00:02:42analytics access to a YouTube channel
- 00:02:46like a pro because what I think viewers
- 00:02:48who want to find a video like this are
- 00:02:49going to most likely be typing into
- 00:02:50YouTube is something like how to get
- 00:02:52analytics access to a YouTube channel
- 00:02:54and so I want to make sure those
- 00:02:55keywords are in my title now you can use
- 00:02:58a keyword research tool like IQ for
- 00:03:00instance to dive a lot deeper into the
- 00:03:02best keywords and search phrases to
- 00:03:04include in your title but for now I'm
- 00:03:05just going to leave this and move on to
- 00:03:08the next part of our video which is the
- 00:03:10description now the description is
- 00:03:11something that people get wrong all the
- 00:03:13time and it's actually one of the most
- 00:03:14important elements to upload in your
- 00:03:16video so here is the description
- 00:03:17template I like to use for all of my
- 00:03:19videos I'll explain exactly how to use
- 00:03:21it and why I use it right now but I'm
- 00:03:22going to give you this template for free
- 00:03:24later in the video just as a bribe to
- 00:03:25keep you watching and get my watch time
- 00:03:27up but anyway so the first bit of the
- 00:03:29description is you want a little text
- 00:03:30hook that sort of elaborates and teases
- 00:03:32what your video is this hook we don't
- 00:03:34want it to be any longer than 95
- 00:03:36characters and I'll get to why that is
- 00:03:38in a moment also if you're creating a
- 00:03:40searchable video like we talked about
- 00:03:41earlier you want to make sure that
- 00:03:43you're including your keywords in this
- 00:03:45section if your video isn't very
- 00:03:46searchable it doesn't really matter what
- 00:03:49keywords you include in here just make
- 00:03:50sure this section entices and excites
- 00:03:52people to stick around for the video all
- 00:03:54right so I might write something like
- 00:03:55here's a step-by-step tutorial and the
- 00:03:57easiest way to get analytics access to a
- 00:03:59YouTube Channel I'm just going to check
- 00:04:01the uh character count on this bam
- 00:04:04perfect 94 characters I'm just using an
- 00:04:06extension called character counts
- 00:04:09completely free and again if you're
- 00:04:10seeing extensions and stuff around my
- 00:04:12uploading process I like using tools to
- 00:04:14make my life easier but you can do most
- 00:04:16of this stuff manually if you don't mind
- 00:04:18putting in a bit more time so now we're
- 00:04:19going to move down our description a bit
- 00:04:21to this section this is what I call your
- 00:04:23first call to action and a call to
- 00:04:25action is where you promote something
- 00:04:26and if you have a product or service
- 00:04:28obviously this is the perfect place to
- 00:04:29put it and you might be thinking but
- 00:04:30Marcus I don't promote anything I don't
- 00:04:32have a product or sponsor or whatever
- 00:04:33that's fine promote another one of your
- 00:04:35videos here if someone clicks on your
- 00:04:37video and then they click on your call
- 00:04:38to action you've now turned one view
- 00:04:40into two views so don't miss out on that
- 00:04:42opportunity and you want to copy the
- 00:04:44exact spacing and character counts I
- 00:04:46mentioned here because what we want this
- 00:04:47to look like is let's go to a video on
- 00:04:49YouTube Good Old grammarly ad what we
- 00:04:51want our description to look like is
- 00:04:53this so you're going to have your first
- 00:04:55text talk that's the first thing people
- 00:04:56are going to read and then you're going
- 00:04:58to have your call to action here here
- 00:05:00with the link showing up whether that's
- 00:05:01to your product service or another
- 00:05:02YouTube video and this is all going to
- 00:05:04show up without people having to click
- 00:05:06on the more button you don't want to
- 00:05:08push this link down to another row
- 00:05:10because if you do then people aren't
- 00:05:11actually going to be able to click on it
- 00:05:13without clicking on the more button now
- 00:05:15speaking of links this is something else
- 00:05:16that people stuff up if you're linking
- 00:05:18to a product or a service or a website
- 00:05:20and try to have a unique tracking link
- 00:05:22for every single video that way you know
- 00:05:24exactly what videos are sending traffic
- 00:05:27to your website because some videos send
- 00:05:29more more traffic than this for example
- 00:05:30I had a video that got 700,000 views I
- 00:05:33think and it was sending double the
- 00:05:34amount of leads to my website as another
- 00:05:37video I had that I think had like 1.4
- 00:05:39million views and without my tracking
- 00:05:41link I would have had no idea that my
- 00:05:42700,000 view video was more successful
- 00:05:45and I would have kept making more videos
- 00:05:46like the one that got 1.4 million views
- 00:05:48now if you're not sending traffic to a
- 00:05:50website let's say you're promoting
- 00:05:51another YouTube video you don't just
- 00:05:53want to link the video here what you
- 00:05:55want to do is create a playlist and if
- 00:05:57you haven't got any playlists already
- 00:05:58you just want to come to your YouTube
- 00:05:59Studio come up to create click on create
- 00:06:02new playlist just add in the title of
- 00:06:04your playlist description doesn't really
- 00:06:06matter and then click add videos and add
- 00:06:08a bunch of your videos to this playlist
- 00:06:10and the reason you are going to do this
- 00:06:12is because if I go to one of my
- 00:06:15playlists let's say I go to this one and
- 00:06:17now that I'm inside of this playlist I
- 00:06:19copy this link and use this link for my
- 00:06:22call to action when someone goes to this
- 00:06:24video and clicks on this link not only
- 00:06:27is it going to actually open up the
- 00:06:28video but it's going to open up the
- 00:06:30video inside of a playlist like you can
- 00:06:32see here which is good because one it
- 00:06:34pushes down all of the recommended
- 00:06:36competitor videos and make it harder for
- 00:06:38viewers to see them and they have to
- 00:06:39scroll all the way down here to see
- 00:06:40these videos but two it means that if
- 00:06:42people get to the end of your video now
- 00:06:45they're going to just automatically be
- 00:06:46loaded up another one of your videos and
- 00:06:47then another one and then another one
- 00:06:49which is going to hopefully help you get
- 00:06:50multiple views off the same viewer so
- 00:06:52I'm going to put that there next what I
- 00:06:54like to do is I like to have this videos
- 00:06:56to watch next section and I have a
- 00:06:57couple of different videos that are
- 00:06:59related to the topic of the video I'm
- 00:07:00posting with links to them again to try
- 00:07:02and get people to watch multiple of my
- 00:07:04videos and what you'll notice here if
- 00:07:06you look at these links carefully you'll
- 00:07:07see that these look like the links I
- 00:07:09just showed you and that's because these
- 00:07:11are also playlist links so if I copy
- 00:07:14this and I Chuck this into YouTube
- 00:07:17you'll see that it loads up this video
- 00:07:18but it loads it up again inside of a
- 00:07:20playlist now down below what I like to
- 00:07:22do now is have another section for calls
- 00:07:25to action again I use emojis here
- 00:07:27because I want to draw people's
- 00:07:28attention to these calls to action this
- 00:07:30is exactly the same as the call to
- 00:07:33action that's up here I just changed the
- 00:07:35wording of it so if people don't click
- 00:07:37up here I have another shot of getting
- 00:07:38them to click down here so what I would
- 00:07:40do is I could just like copy something
- 00:07:42like this instead of doing want to watch
- 00:07:44me buy 5 million views I could just do
- 00:07:46something like I spent $80,000 buying
- 00:07:48views watch what happened here which is
- 00:07:51actually true by the way and again I'm
- 00:07:52just going to promote the exact same
- 00:07:54thing so now I've got the opportunity to
- 00:07:55try and get people to do this thing and
- 00:07:57then below that I'm just going to have
- 00:07:58any other calls to action that I want to
- 00:08:00promote so this could be maybe your
- 00:08:02social media for me it's an email list
- 00:08:04highly recommend people promote an email
- 00:08:06list especially if you're an education
- 00:08:07type Channel because it means if
- 00:08:09anything ever happens to your channel
- 00:08:10you have all the email addresses of your
- 00:08:12subscribers so you can just email them
- 00:08:13your new videos or new offers or
- 00:08:15products or whatever it is now below
- 00:08:16that I like to have a little quote I
- 00:08:18don't know if this actually makes a
- 00:08:19difference I just like it I'll then have
- 00:08:20my contact information for Brands and
- 00:08:22then below that I will have a bunch of
- 00:08:24hashtags now I get a bunch of questions
- 00:08:26about these hashtags firstly people ask
- 00:08:28is it not Allowed by YouTube and the
- 00:08:30answer to that is no if you read
- 00:08:32YouTube's terms and conditions they say
- 00:08:33you can have up to 60 relevant hashtags
- 00:08:35and I usually have about 50 here and
- 00:08:37when you link a hashtag in your video
- 00:08:39it's going to one show the hashtags at
- 00:08:40the top of the description but if you
- 00:08:42click on those hashtags it's also going
- 00:08:44to make your video show up when people
- 00:08:46type in that hashtag now do many people
- 00:08:48type in hashtags no this isn't a great
- 00:08:50strategy to get huge amounts of views as
- 00:08:53you can see there's only like me and two
- 00:08:55other creators actually tagging their
- 00:08:57videos with these hashtags but I think
- 00:08:58about it this way it can't hurt it's not
- 00:09:01going to make me get less views and if
- 00:09:02your videos are all around a similar
- 00:09:04topic I normally just copy and paste the
- 00:09:05same list of hashtags but just be
- 00:09:07careful doing that if your videos are
- 00:09:08very different because YouTube terms and
- 00:09:10conditions so you need to make sure your
- 00:09:11hashtags are actually relevant to the
- 00:09:12video that you're posting now if we keep
- 00:09:14coming down we end up in the custom
- 00:09:16thumbnail section now quick note here if
- 00:09:18you don't see this section it's probably
- 00:09:20because you haven't verified your
- 00:09:21channel so if you have a new channel
- 00:09:23what you need to do is come into
- 00:09:24settings then you want to go to channel
- 00:09:26then you want to go to feature
- 00:09:28eligibility and in here you can see this
- 00:09:29is new channel right I'm not eligible
- 00:09:31for these other two features because I
- 00:09:33haven't verified my phone number so you
- 00:09:35would just need to verify your phone
- 00:09:36number and then you'd also need to
- 00:09:37verify a valid ID to get access to the
- 00:09:40last one and that's going to allow you
- 00:09:41to do things like custom thumbnails
- 00:09:43upload videos longer than 15 minutes etc
- 00:09:45etc but anyway back to thumbnails we
- 00:09:47have upload a file which you can upload
- 00:09:48a singular file you can autogenerate a
- 00:09:50thumbnail which is usually horrendous
- 00:09:52and you can test and compare which is
- 00:09:53going to let you upload multiple
- 00:09:54thumbnails and test them against one
- 00:09:56another now I do think the test and
- 00:09:58compare option is the one you should go
- 00:10:00with I've heard people saying test and
- 00:10:01compare actually hurts your videos I
- 00:10:03haven't found that and a lot of my other
- 00:10:05YouTuber mates who are much smarter than
- 00:10:06me haven't found that either so what I
- 00:10:08would do is you just come and click on
- 00:10:09this and then you upload multiple
- 00:10:11different thumbnails so I might just
- 00:10:13upload this one this one this one now
- 00:10:16what I will say is that I have been
- 00:10:18getting some interesting results from
- 00:10:20thumbnail test and compare let me show
- 00:10:22you what I mean so if I come to my
- 00:10:25content you can view how your thumbnails
- 00:10:27went later by coming down to the video
- 00:10:29that you added on clicking on options
- 00:10:31and clicking on view test and compare I
- 00:10:32did test and compare but with three of
- 00:10:34the exact same thumbnails I did this
- 00:10:36across multiple videos one you can see
- 00:10:37is that YouTube actually gave me very
- 00:10:39different results it said that this
- 00:10:40thumbnail was the most successful with a
- 00:10:4240% watchtime share and this thumbnail
- 00:10:44was the least successful with 27% watch
- 00:10:46time share which is interesting because
- 00:10:47these two thumbnails are literally
- 00:10:49exactly the same so right now should you
- 00:10:50fully trust YouTube's Tes and compare
- 00:10:52feature a friend of a friend of mine has
- 00:10:53actually talked to YouTube's developer
- 00:10:55team who created this feature and even
- 00:10:57the developers who created this feature
- 00:10:58say that they think it's about 50%
- 00:11:00accurate which probably means it's like
- 00:11:0230% accurate so long story short don't
- 00:11:04take the results that you get from
- 00:11:05thumbnail test as gospel also it's not a
- 00:11:07bad idea to run the thumbnail test
- 00:11:08multiple times to make sure that your
- 00:11:10winning thumbnail actually is a winning
- 00:11:12thumbnail but overall I still do use it
- 00:11:14right now assuming all three of your
- 00:11:16thumbnail variations are actually good
- 00:11:18quality all right if we continue down we
- 00:11:20now are at the playlist section here you
- 00:11:22can just click in here and just select
- 00:11:23all playlists that are relevant to your
- 00:11:25video and just hit done coming down
- 00:11:27further we are at the Copper section
- 00:11:29this is where you have to designate
- 00:11:30whether your video is made for kids or
- 00:11:32made not for kids the way you want to
- 00:11:33think about this here is think about is
- 00:11:35your video made specifically for kids so
- 00:11:37think about something like Peppa Pig
- 00:11:39right the TV show that TV show is made
- 00:11:41specifically for kids so if you're
- 00:11:43uploading videos like that then yes the
- 00:11:44video is made for kids on the other hand
- 00:11:46if you're uploading videos that are akin
- 00:11:48to say Marvel movies right Marvel movies
- 00:11:50aren't made for kids even though kids
- 00:11:52enjoy watching them and if your video
- 00:11:54content allows for you to do this
- 00:11:56genuinely selecting no is usually the
- 00:11:58option you want because it's it's going
- 00:11:59to give you a whole bunch of extra
- 00:12:01features that would be unavailable if
- 00:12:02you said your video is made for kids all
- 00:12:04right continuing on age restriction if
- 00:12:06your video is very explicit then yes you
- 00:12:08can restrict it to viewers over the age
- 00:12:09of 18 most of the time you don't have to
- 00:12:11worry about this also video game
- 00:12:13violence and stuff doesn't really count
- 00:12:14so I had gaming channels for example for
- 00:12:165 years lots of killing and death and
- 00:12:18stuff like that and I never had to
- 00:12:19restrict my video to over 18s and I
- 00:12:21never had any problems so continuing on
- 00:12:24paid promotion if you have sponsors or
- 00:12:26brand deals you're supposed to check
- 00:12:27this box legally now I'm not saying you
- 00:12:29shouldn't check this box but I will say
- 00:12:31that a lot of big creators and you guys
- 00:12:33have probably noticed this don't check
- 00:12:34this box even when they are promoting
- 00:12:36things so like if you get this one wrong
- 00:12:38it's probably not going to matter but I
- 00:12:39guess you should try and be genuine
- 00:12:41about this now if you do check this box
- 00:12:43it's going to show a little Banner at
- 00:12:45the beginning of your video that says
- 00:12:46this video includes paid promotion or
- 00:12:47something like that now next we have
- 00:12:49YouTube's AI section so basically if
- 00:12:51you've created AI characters or footage
- 00:12:53that could be mistaken for real
- 00:12:55characters or footage supposed to check
- 00:12:57yes here so I'm just going to no because
- 00:12:59I don't include that now next one we
- 00:13:01have automatic chapters chapters are
- 00:13:03those things where you can see the video
- 00:13:04play bars being broken up into multiple
- 00:13:06different segments sounds like a really
- 00:13:08great idea turning on allowing automatic
- 00:13:11chapters and key moments I hate it
- 00:13:12because YouTube's AI often gets it wrong
- 00:13:14so I would turn it off if you want to
- 00:13:16add those sections or segments to your
- 00:13:17video which as you've probably seen from
- 00:13:19my uploading process here I don't think
- 00:13:20it's necessary there are times where I
- 00:13:23think chapters can sort of hurt
- 00:13:24retention because people see the
- 00:13:25upcoming chapters and they just skip to
- 00:13:27them but of course that's not every
- 00:13:28video so if if you do want to add
- 00:13:29chapters I would do it manually the way
- 00:13:31you would do that is You' come up to
- 00:13:32your description and you would type 0
- 00:13:34colon 0 0 and then type the name of your
- 00:13:36first chapter then you come down and
- 00:13:38type the Tim stamp where that chapter
- 00:13:40ends so let's say 020 then type the name
- 00:13:43of the next chapter that's going to be
- 00:13:45so it might be intro you might say 0.1
- 00:13:47and go 0 50. 2 1
- 00:13:5150.3 etc etc you don't have to have
- 00:13:54these spaces I just added them in for
- 00:13:56some reason and that will make those
- 00:13:57chapters appear inside of your video now
- 00:13:59an important thing to know if you are
- 00:14:00doing chapters try not to spoil your
- 00:14:02video so I see a lot of people do this
- 00:14:04in their chapters they basically spoil
- 00:14:05the content and make it so the viewers
- 00:14:07don't actually need to watch so for
- 00:14:08example if I had a chapter in this video
- 00:14:10that was like why chapters don't matter
- 00:14:12you're going to be watching the video

- 00:14:21you're titling them try to title them in
- 00:14:23a way that doesn't make people think oh
- 00:14:25I already know this or I already know
- 00:14:26what's going to happen and just skip to
- 00:14:27the next interesting part of your video
- 00:14:29all right going back down continuing
- 00:14:31along allow automatic places we don't
- 00:14:33want YouTube to docs us so let's take
- 00:14:35that off next automatic Concepts turn it
- 00:14:37off you don't want that next we have
- 00:14:38tags now tags in 2024 and Beyond
- 00:14:40basically don't matter I do use tags my
- 00:14:42rationale reasoning for that is the fact
- 00:14:44that YouTube has still included them
- 00:14:46means that they are somewhat relevant to
- 00:14:48some degree but in my experience the
- 00:14:50difference tags make is so minute that I
- 00:14:52put very little effort into this I will
- 00:14:54basically just use a tool like vid IQ
- 00:14:56I'll type in like one keyword just copy
- 00:14:58all of the related keywords that show up
- 00:15:00and paste them in here in bulk so it
- 00:15:02literally take you like 20 or 30 seconds
- 00:15:03to do this and I don't think you should
- 00:15:05even bother spending more than that
- 00:15:07amount of time on tags all right
- 00:15:09continuing Down video language you can
- 00:15:10select that here cap certification leave
- 00:15:12that at none recording date I don't know
- 00:15:14why they have this almost no one uses
- 00:15:16this feature but I guess you can add the
- 00:15:18recording date of your video If you
- 00:15:19really want to now license and
- 00:15:21distribution if you select standard
- 00:15:22YouTube license it means that people
- 00:15:24aren't supposed to take your video and
- 00:15:25re-upload it themselves if you just like
- 00:15:27Creative Commons attribution it means
- 00:15:29that people can reupload your video or
- 00:15:31reupload parts of your video as long as
- 00:15:32they give you credit now I like to leave
- 00:15:34it at Creative Commons attribution
- 00:15:36because I think well if someone wants to
- 00:15:37re-upload my video and credit me it's
- 00:15:39like free promotion it's free marketing
- 00:15:41for me why would I not want that so most
- 00:15:42people have it a standard YouTube
- 00:15:43license cuz they don't want people to
- 00:15:44steal their content I'm like you want to
- 00:15:46steal my content and promote me in it
- 00:15:48fine like go for it please be my guest
- 00:15:50cool next one is allow embedding if you
- 00:15:52have this checked it's going to allow
- 00:15:53people if they want to embed your video
- 00:15:55into their website same thing here if
- 00:15:56people want to embed my video into their
- 00:15:58website free marketing free views for me
- 00:16:00of course you can do that and the next
- 00:16:02one down here this is a really
- 00:16:03interesting one so publish to
- 00:16:04subscriptions feed and notify
- 00:16:05subscribers now when you check this it
- 00:16:06means when you post your video it's
- 00:16:08going to end up in your viewers
- 00:16:09subscriptions feed and notify any people
- 00:16:11who have the Bell notification turned on
- 00:16:13and you would think that you would want
- 00:16:14to leave this on here's why not so if
- 00:16:16you post a variety of different types of
- 00:16:19videos let's say you've been posting a
- 00:16:20bunch of Minecraft videos and then you
- 00:16:22go and post a guitar tutorial video if
- 00:16:24you have your published to subscriptions
- 00:16:26fee to notifi subscribers checked in the
- 00:16:28beginning YouTube's going to be more
- 00:16:29likely to promote your guitar tutorial
- 00:16:32video to the viewers who watch your
- 00:16:33previous videos who are interested in
- 00:16:35Minecraft not guitar tutorials and so
- 00:16:37those viewers don't click they don't
- 00:16:39watch and sometimes that can get the
- 00:16:40algorithm confused and it thinks well
- 00:16:42this is just a bad video maybe it's the
- 00:16:43best guitar tutorial in the world it's
- 00:16:45just being promoted to the wrong
- 00:16:46audience sometimes YouTube doesn't seem
- 00:16:48to be smart enough to figure that out so
- 00:16:50in my opinion think about it like this
- 00:16:52would the viewers of your previous
- 00:16:53videos also really want to click on this
- 00:16:56video that you're about to publish if
- 00:16:57the answer is yes great leave this on
- 00:16:59publish it to subscriptions feed and
- 00:17:01notify your subscribers if the answer is
- 00:17:02no leave this off because you don't want
- 00:17:04YouTube to send your video to the wrong
- 00:17:06type of person who's not going to watch
- 00:17:07and it's going to make it less likely
- 00:17:09the algorithm will promote your video
- 00:17:10more in the future next allow shorts
- 00:17:12remixing this will just allow people to
- 00:17:13create shorts using your content in your
- 00:17:15video again I like to allow this cuz
- 00:17:17free marketing and if we come down to
- 00:17:19category this is where you can select
- 00:17:20the category of your video now if you
- 00:17:22select certain categories like gaming
- 00:17:24for instance it'll actually allow you to
- 00:17:27type in exactly what the game is that
- 00:17:29you're playing in other categories to
- 00:17:30say like comedy doesn't require any sort
- 00:17:32of additional specification so I would
- 00:17:34just go through here select the category
- 00:17:36that makes most sense to you and if
- 00:17:37there are any additional prompts that
- 00:17:39show up when you select your category
- 00:17:41just fill them out to be as accurate as
- 00:17:43they can be in describing whatever type
- 00:17:45of content is that you've made so for
- 00:17:46this video I might just go like
- 00:17:48education this is going to be like a
- 00:17:49how-to video it isn't part of any
- 00:17:52academic system so I'm just going to go
- 00:17:53none and here I would just type in
- 00:17:55whatever it is I help my viewers with
- 00:17:57all right continuing on comments and
- 00:17:59ratings I like to allow comments to be
- 00:18:01on for comment moderation I like to have
- 00:18:04it at basic as well if you get a lot of
- 00:18:06hate comments and you can't handle them
- 00:18:08you could put it at strict or hold all
- 00:18:09and that will only allow comments to get
- 00:18:11approved to you published to your video
- 00:18:12basic's pretty good in my experience and
- 00:18:15last you can choose how you want to sort
- 00:18:16your comments by always leave this at
- 00:18:18top because that's how most videos on
- 00:18:19YouTube are sorted and of course you
- 00:18:21want to allow people to see how many
- 00:18:23people like the video otherwise people
- 00:18:24will think you're weird and you're
- 00:18:25hiding something so now we've done all
- 00:18:26of that stuff we can just hit next if
- 00:18:29your channel is monetized you can come
- 00:18:30here and click on on which will mean
- 00:18:32that your video is going to show ads now
- 00:18:34if your video is over 8 minutes in
- 00:18:35length you can actually insert mid roll
- 00:18:37ads into your videos so there's going to
- 00:18:38be ads at play not just at the beginning
- 00:18:39of your video but during your video but
- 00:18:41if you're at the point where you have
- 00:18:421,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours
- 00:18:44which is how many you need to monetize
- 00:18:45you probably already know how to do that
- 00:18:46so I'm just going to keep going cool
- 00:18:48next is ADD suitability so basically you
- 00:18:50just want to go through this
- 00:18:51questionnaire and just answer all of
- 00:18:53these questions as accurately as you can
- 00:18:55so I might just have that adult content
- 00:18:57there's going to be none violence none
- 00:18:59har flx none recreational drugs none
- 00:19:02none none none cool none of this is that
- 00:19:04so then I can just hit submit rating and
- 00:19:07then I'm going to hit next and you
- 00:19:08always want to try and be as honest as
- 00:19:10you can in this section because if you
- 00:19:12stay honest there YouTube is going to
- 00:19:14basically allow you to continue
- 00:19:16moderating your own content but if
- 00:19:18YouTube picks up that you're lying about
- 00:19:20what's actually in your video then
- 00:19:21they're going to stop trusting you and
- 00:19:22they might actually need to review your
- 00:19:24videos which could take some time
- 00:19:25meaning that if you want to post your
- 00:19:26videos right away you're going to miss
- 00:19:28out on a chunk of of AD Revenue while
- 00:19:29YouTube are reviewing your ad
- 00:19:30suitability so next we're into video
- 00:19:32elements you can add subtitles here if
- 00:19:35you want to reach an broader audience
- 00:19:36YouTube automatically adds subtitles for
- 00:19:39most languages I just let YouTube do it
- 00:19:41because it's pretty good next you can
- 00:19:42click on add an end screen what an end
- 00:19:44screen is is that video box or playlist
- 00:19:46or Channel subscribe icon that pops up
- 00:19:49at the end of a YouTube video to do
- 00:19:50whatever it is you wanted to do so you
- 00:19:52can import an end screen from a previous
- 00:19:53video and we're just going to create one
- 00:19:54custom for this tutorial so I'm going to
- 00:19:55click add so YouTube has a couple of
- 00:19:57different templates you can use here
- 00:19:59what I like to do personally is I like
- 00:20:01to promote a video so your video is
- 00:20:03going to pop up here what you can do is
- 00:20:04you can click on this and I like to drag
- 00:20:06this out like that to make it as big as
- 00:20:07possible and Chuck it right in the
- 00:20:09center of the screen the reason I do
- 00:20:11this is the more elements you add onto
- 00:20:13the screen the more what's called
- 00:20:14decision fatigue is induced so when I
- 00:20:16was working in marketing for 4 years
- 00:20:17what I learned was the more choices
- 00:20:19people have the less likely it is that
- 00:20:20they're going to make any choice at all
- 00:20:22so I like to just give people one big
- 00:20:24Choice which is the thing I want them to
- 00:20:25do which is to watch another one of my
- 00:20:26videos so I can turn that one View into
- 00:20:29two views now the other thing I like to
- 00:20:30do is end screens by default are set to
- 00:20:33last about 20 seconds 20 seconds in my
- 00:20:35opinion is way too long it doesn't take
- 00:20:37people 20 seconds to decide on whether
- 00:20:39or not they want to watch your next
- 00:20:40video so if you want to scroll to the
- 00:20:42end of your video to see how long it is
- 00:20:43you have to like kind of drag your
- 00:20:45playhead off the screen like that and
- 00:20:46then click on this little button and
- 00:20:48it'll like move it to the end of your
- 00:20:49video so I can see that my video is 4
- 00:20:51minutes and 47 seconds long so I'm just
- 00:20:53going to drag this over to here click on
- 00:20:55my playhead and then I'm going to drag
- 00:20:56this down to say I was like 47 seconds I
- 00:21:00think giving people about 7 seconds is
- 00:21:02enough time ideally so I'm just going to
- 00:21:04Chuck that there the reason I don't have
- 00:21:06a hard and fast number here is because I
- 00:21:08usually like to in my videos themselves
- 00:21:10actively promote the end screen that
- 00:21:11pops up so I'll say something like hey
- 00:21:13if you want to watch XY Z video click on
- 00:21:15that video on screen right now and
- 00:21:16depending on how long it takes me to say
- 00:21:19that call to action will depend on how
- 00:21:21long it is that I have this end screen
- 00:21:23show up for so I'll basically just have
- 00:21:24this end screen show up at the point
- 00:21:26where I say there'll be a video on
- 00:21:27screen right now so I'll just drag to
- 00:21:28wherever that is but roughly my end
- 00:21:30screens usually end up being about 5 to
- 00:21:3110 seconds now after you've selected
- 00:21:33your placement and how long you want the
- 00:21:35video to be for you can select what kind
- 00:21:36of video you want to feature here now if
- 00:21:38you have no idea I would just select
- 00:21:40best for viewer and let YouTube choose
- 00:21:42what video to promote to your viewer but
- 00:21:43if you do what I mentioned previously
- 00:21:44where I actually have a baked in call to
- 00:21:47action in my video script where I'm like
- 00:21:48hey go check out the video on screen
- 00:21:49that's going to help you do XYZ I like
- 00:21:51to come to choose a specific video and
- 00:21:53then choose the specific video that I am
- 00:21:55promoting in my outro for obvious
- 00:21:57reasons so once you've done all of that
- 00:21:59you can just hit save and the last thing
- 00:22:01is cards basically cards will show this
- 00:22:02little like icon at the top right hand
- 00:22:04corner of the video but not many people
- 00:22:05click on or use cards nowadays so vast
- 00:22:07majority of people I don't think you
- 00:22:08need to use them so we're just going to
- 00:22:10hit next here now it's going to show us
- 00:22:11a screen to see if we have any copyright
- 00:22:13issues in our video so for me I'm all
- 00:22:15good because this video has no copyright
- 00:22:17issues so we're going to hit next so
- 00:22:18what you're going to want to do is first
- 00:22:20save your video to unlisted and now when
- 00:22:22you upload it to unlisted it means no
- 00:22:23one will be able to see it unless you
- 00:22:24directly send them a link to the video
- 00:22:26let it sit for an hour or so while it
- 00:22:29publishes the HD version of your video
- 00:22:31because if you just upload your video
- 00:22:32right away to public the video might
- 00:22:34have only processed to standard
- 00:22:36definition so when people watch it it's
- 00:22:38not going to look very good also YouTube
- 00:22:40might not have checked whether or not
- 00:22:42you have any copyright violations yet in
- 00:22:43your video CU also that can take some
- 00:22:45time sometimes so you might find that
- 00:22:47you upload a video you post it and
- 00:22:49YouTube's like hey this video has
- 00:22:50copyright issues and at that point
- 00:22:52you've posted it and it's too late so
- 00:22:53uploaded to unlisted until all of your
- 00:22:55copyright checks and your highdefinition
- 00:22:57version of your video is processed mine
- 00:22:58you can see it already has down here
- 00:23:00from these icons but a lot of longer
- 00:23:02videos might take some more time now
- 00:23:03what I personally like to do is come
- 00:23:05down to schedule and I like to schedule
- 00:23:07the video to go live at my peak time so
- 00:23:09when most of my viewers are active so
- 00:23:11that video IQ extension I told you about
- 00:23:13that I've got installed tells me that my
- 00:23:15best times to post are between 12: and
- 00:23:162:00 a.m. so I could just select
- 00:23:18whatever day I want my video to go live
- 00:23:20on and then I would select 12:00 a.m. so
- 00:23:23it goes live at the beginning of my peig
- 00:23:25time now if you don't have vid IQ
- 00:23:26installed something you can do is you go
- 00:23:29to your YouTube channel you go to
- 00:23:31YouTube Studio then you're going to go
- 00:23:32to your analytics then you're going to
- 00:23:34come to audience and the audience Tab
- 00:23:37and if you scroll down you should see
- 00:23:38this little thing here and it's going to
- 00:23:40tell you when your viewers are online so
- 00:23:42if I hover over these boxes the lighter
- 00:23:44purple you see the more viewers are
- 00:23:46online so these dark purple sections it
- 00:23:48means not many of my viewers are online
- 00:23:50if I hover over this you can see that
- 00:23:52but if I hover over these sections for
- 00:23:53example like from 12: to like 2 3 4:
- 00:23:57a.m. that's when the majority of my
- 00:23:58viewers are which is what viq just told
- 00:24:00me right I should be posting around like
- 00:24:0212:00 a.m. but quick thing bear in mind
- 00:24:03if you have a really small Channel and
- 00:24:05you don't have much data unfortunately
- 00:24:06this section of your analytics is not
- 00:24:08going to show up in saying all of that
- 00:24:10though don't worry too much about
- 00:24:11publish time a lot of people make a big
- 00:24:13deal about what's the perfect time to
- 00:24:14publish out to get more views it really
- 00:24:15doesn't make that big of a difference
- 00:24:17but coming back to actually publishing
- 00:24:18our video you might see this option down
- 00:24:20here set as Premiere what this will do
- 00:24:22if you select this and you hit setup
- 00:24:24Premiere you can select like a countdown
- 00:24:26timer that might look something like
- 00:24:27this you can choose what you want the
- 00:24:29length of the countdown timer to be so
- 00:24:31you can actually make a trailer for your
- 00:24:32video that people can watch before your
- 00:24:34video goes live at the scheduled date
- 00:24:36and you can also add redirects which
- 00:24:37would allow you to sort of like Stitch
- 00:24:39together multiple live streams or Live
- 00:24:41Events I never use this but anyway if
- 00:24:43you're creating a really big massive
- 00:24:45exciting video I like to set as a
- 00:24:47premere to try and sort of build a bit
- 00:24:48of extra hype within your audience if
- 00:24:50you don't really have an audience at the
- 00:24:51moment then setting as a premere doesn't
- 00:24:53really matter but I would say try not to
- 00:24:54do too many premieres cuz if every
- 00:24:55single one of your videos is a Premiere
- 00:24:57and you're uploading frequently then
- 00:24:58eventually when you do Premier a video
- 00:25:01people are just going to be like well he
- 00:25:02always premieres like it it's not really
- 00:25:04that special so I try and be selective
- 00:25:06with this so when people see me publish
- 00:25:08a video as a premere they're like oh
- 00:25:09this one's special and so if you hit
- 00:25:10that your video is going to show up as
- 00:25:12scheduled like this just sort of build
- 00:25:14hype for when the video is supposed to
- 00:25:16go live and when the video does go live
- 00:25:17there's going to be like a live stream
- 00:25:18chat where viewers can interact and you
- 00:25:20can interact with your viewers while
- 00:25:21everyone's watching it for the first
- 00:25:22time and cool stuff like that and now
- 00:25:24all of this has been done you just hit
- 00:25:26schedule close this out and you can see
- 00:25:28that the video has been scheduled like
- 00:25:29so and if I go to my channel really
- 00:25:31quick I need to do this really quick cuz
- 00:25:32I need to delete this Premiere because
- 00:25:34it's going to make my channel look
- 00:25:35stupid um let's load it up for to my
- 00:25:38homepage here you can see it right here
- 00:25:40so you can see upcoming how to get
- 00:25:41analytics access to a YouTube channel
- 00:25:42blah blah blah if I click onto this you
- 00:25:44can see that I've got a Premiere and
- 00:25:46there's one person currently waiting and
- 00:25:48the the kind of the wait looks it looks
- 00:25:50like this anyway I'm going to delete
- 00:25:51this really quick so people don't see it
- 00:25:54this is
- 00:25:55stressful a lot of people go through
- 00:25:56this and think that just by publishing
- 00:25:58the videos properly it's going to help
- 00:25:59them get more views it's actually more
- 00:26:00about what well actually I have a whole
- 00:26:02video on this so I'm not going to get
- 00:26:03into this now cuz this video has already
- 00:26:04been super long video on screen go watch
- 00:26:06that video make sure you do all that
- 00:26:07stuff first and then come back to this
- 00:26:10publishing guide then publish your video
- 00:26:11like I've just shown you here and you're
- 00:26:13going to give it the best possible
- 00:26:14chance of getting more views so go check
