Sow Seeds for Your Future Self
Resumen
TLDRThe video discusses the concept of karma, aligning it with Newton's third law, and explores its implications in various fields such as psychology, biology, and behavior. The speaker suggests viewing life through the lens of karma can reduce self-blame, acknowledging we can't control all outcomes but must focus on positive actions and cultivating habits. This approach can change one's life by reducing the emotional investment in outcomes and focusing on actions that contribute to long-term growth. Genetics is highlighted as evidence supporting karmic principles since it shows how past influences affect the present. Karma emphasizes that every action creates future consequences, suggesting a need to cultivate positive actions today to benefit future outcomes.

Cronología
- 00:00:00 - 00:05:00
The speaker introduces the concept of understanding karma to improve life by drawing parallels between learning controls in a video game and understanding life's systems such as psychology and habit. The essence is to comprehend the underlying rules to succeed.
- 00:05:00 - 00:10:00
Karma is introduced as a theory that explains why things happen, transcending traditional fields like psychology and biology. It suggests an underlying order to the universe and posits that the one slice from various life aspects can provide holistic understanding.
- 00:10:00 - 00:15:00
The speaker discusses the historical progression from supernatural explanations, like gods controlling natural events, to scientific understandings. Karma is proposed as a framework transcending this divide, offering insight where science attributes randomness.
- 00:15:00 - 00:20:00
The possibility of universal order is questioned, suggesting traditional science views parts of the universe as ordered, while other parts remain chaotic. The ongoing scientific exploration transforms chaos to order, possibly indicating an underlying universal order.
- 00:20:00 - 00:25:00
The speaker relates karma to scientific principles, particularly Newton's third law, emphasizing its applicability across various domains, from physics to psychology, suggesting everything operates on cause and effect, akin to karma.
- 00:25:00 - 00:30:00
Karma's concept expands to soft sciences like psychology and economics, positing it as a universal principle of cause and effect. This continuous chain is suggested through various scientific disciplines, hinting at a deeper understanding beyond current science.
- 00:30:00 - 00:35:00
Karma ties into genetics, drawing parallels to how traits are inherited beyond one's control. Science's recognition of genetics supports the karmic view of past influences shaping current life, challenging the line between life before and within.
- 00:35:00 - 00:40:00
The speaker underscores karma as both cause and effect, suggesting past actions shape present circumstances, but current actions can set up future outcomes. This loop implies that habits formed today influence tomorrow's opportunities.
- 00:40:00 - 00:45:00
Karma offers a perspective on self-blame and responsibility, suggesting focusing on actions rather than outcomes. This mindset can alleviate regret from past actions and encourage positive present actions without preoccupation with future results.
- 00:45:00 - 00:50:00
Cultivating good karma is likened to planting seeds with uncertain outcomes. Success isn't guaranteed, but detaching from specific goals, focusing on effort, and understanding past influences can shift perspectives, enhancing positive action.
- 00:50:00 - 00:56:05
Karma is explained as action-based, bound by present choices shaping future opportunities, unlike destiny. It emphasizes the responsibility of present actions while acknowledging past influences, encouraging ongoing constructive efforts.

How does understanding karma help in life?
Understanding karma helps recognize that not everything is within our control, allowing us to focus on actions rather than outcomes.
What role does genetics play in supporting the idea of karma?
Genetics is cited as the first scientific evidence supporting the idea that past lives can influence the present, similar to how genetic information is passed from one generation to the next.
How does karma relate to the concept of habit?
Karma is about present actions sowing seeds for the future, while habits are formed by consistent past actions, serving as future causes.
Can karma lead to a better understanding of success and failure?
Yes, by understanding karma, one can see that success is not fully within one's control, and failures are not entirely one's fault, leading to a more forgiving self-assessment.

What Can You Do With a Physics Degree? - Advice from an Astrophysics Graduate
ARIMA - Machine Learning - Clase. 9 - Parte 4
- 00:00:00so I think karma can be really useful
- 00:00:01because it helps us understand like how
- 00:00:06the world works basically so it is my
- 00:00:09belief that if you want to be better at
- 00:00:11life you should understand how life
- 00:00:13works that competence and ease it
- 00:00:16activities comes through understanding
- 00:00:19of those activities so if I understand
- 00:00:21like you know how to control a character
- 00:00:23in world of warcraft like if I use Waze
- 00:00:25than a mouse and I understand what the
- 00:00:27wk ducky does and what the a key does
- 00:00:30and what the S key does and what the D
- 00:00:32key does that my success in a particular
- 00:00:36game will be improved right sort of a
- 00:00:38no-brainer and so the question is is
- 00:00:40that true of other things like is that
- 00:00:41true of life like if you understand how
- 00:00:43psychology works if you understand how
- 00:00:45you know habit works
- 00:00:47if you understand how biology works do
- 00:00:49you get better at the game of life like
- 00:00:51if you understand the nature of
- 00:00:52procrastination and where
- 00:00:54procrastination comes from will you do
- 00:00:56better and I think the answer is yes and
- 00:00:59so karma is one of the biggest things
- 00:01:01like you know we can talk about habit
- 00:01:03and psychology and procrastination but
- 00:01:05those are all like one slice of what
- 00:01:09life offers right so like this is gonna
- 00:01:11be psychology and neuroscience and
- 00:01:18things like that but life has like other
- 00:01:20big chunks right so we can like do this
- 00:01:23and I think that God MA is over here and
- 00:01:28I think it's actually helps you
- 00:01:29understand even more than the psychology
- 00:01:31and neurology and stuff like that
- 00:01:32because this kind of explains why things
- 00:01:35happen and if we understand like why
- 00:01:41things happen it becomes way easier to
- 00:01:43understand life so we're gonna start
- 00:01:47this in kind of a weird huh what's the
- 00:01:50other half that's where you guys to
- 00:01:51figure out so we're gonna start by sort
- 00:01:54of let's start here okay so let's say
- 00:01:56that here's human knowledge and I want
- 00:02:01you guys to just think about this for a
- 00:02:03second okay so like
- 00:02:07let's say 5,000 years ago humans
- 00:02:11understood this much and then we had
- 00:02:14this so let's say like this is a cloud
- 00:02:18with a thunderbolt right and then we
- 00:02:20also had like biology or let's say it's
- 00:02:27not called biology let's call it illness
- 00:02:31okay so like there were some phenomenon
- 00:02:34and human beings like understood this so
- 00:02:39this is ours and when they looked at
- 00:02:42like whether they said like oh that's
- 00:02:45not us
- 00:02:46like we don't understand how that works
- 00:02:47that doesn't have principles to it this
- 00:02:49is a guy named Zeus so Zeus controls
- 00:02:52this and there's no reason if Zeus is
- 00:02:54pissed off there's thunder and lightning
- 00:02:56and if Zeus is happy there's no thunder
- 00:02:58and lightning and like we're not really
- 00:02:59sure how that works but like it's under
- 00:03:01Zeus is control and then similarly like
- 00:03:03illness is like not something to be
- 00:03:05understood it's like the gods or other
- 00:03:08forces that we can't control like muses
- 00:03:11or randomness or entropy or or chaos
- 00:03:15theory or whatever like this is not
- 00:03:17something that fundamentally can be
- 00:03:19understood so it's a question mark and
- 00:03:21over time what's happened as science has
- 00:03:25grown is we're like okay so let's do
- 00:03:29this like so humans have sort of covered
- 00:03:32this right we've moved the bar this way
- 00:03:35and now we're here and we're like oh
- 00:03:36thunder or lightning or not actually
- 00:03:38there's like no God who controls it it's
- 00:03:40like physical phenomenon that have
- 00:03:42forces that we can understand and then
- 00:03:44over time we also move over here and
- 00:03:49then and then we have so now humans
- 00:03:52control this stuff right we like we get
- 00:03:54this but over here are places like why
- 00:03:58or things like was I born to my parents
- 00:04:11what are some other things why am i lazy
- 00:04:17when others are not and we look at these
- 00:04:24things and we say these are questions
- 00:04:26that cannot be scientifically answered
- 00:04:27right there's no like science so like
- 00:04:30over here is the question works so we
- 00:04:33say that oh this is like it's random
- 00:04:35right so like a person whose religious
- 00:04:38will say this is the province of God and
- 00:04:40God works in mysterious ways and the
- 00:04:42secularists or the atheists will say
- 00:04:44there's like there's no order to the
- 00:04:45universe that can be determined things
- 00:04:47are just random but do you guys see how
- 00:04:49like whether we attribute it to
- 00:04:51randomness or god it's the same thing
- 00:04:54there's no way for humans to understand
- 00:04:56so now my first question to you is are
- 00:04:59parts of the universe ordered and other
- 00:05:09parts chaos right if we think about the
- 00:05:21system of science the science say yeah
- 00:05:24like this part of the universe has order
- 00:05:26so like physics has ordered but biology
- 00:05:29does not and like this part of the
- 00:05:32universe has order but this part of the
- 00:05:34universe is chaotic because if if we if
- 00:05:37we kind of think about it
- 00:05:38like essentially what's happened is the
- 00:05:41chunks of universe that have become
- 00:05:43ordered have grown over time as
- 00:05:45understanding of science grows we've
- 00:05:48gone from disorder to order right if we
- 00:05:54look at this spectrum this spectrum over
- 00:05:56here is like growing order over time
- 00:06:00this is order over time right so like
- 00:06:06does it make it so it I mean I'll share
- 00:06:08with you one conclusion so like some
- 00:06:09time ago I was very confused by like I
- 00:06:14thought it was strange that there's like
- 00:06:15sort of this arbitrary place that we
- 00:06:17decide we we look at this thing and we
- 00:06:20say oh yeah like everything on the
- 00:06:21others
- 00:06:21as chaos but this is order right so it's
- 00:06:29kind of weird like that just doesn't
- 00:06:30make sense to me
- 00:06:31and so if we think about it you know so
- 00:06:36it's my belief that things like it
- 00:06:38doesn't make sense to me that the
- 00:06:39universe has an arbitrary point at which
- 00:06:41disorder starts like that just doesn't
- 00:06:44make sense and generally speaking if you
- 00:06:46look at it scientifically any place that
- 00:06:49has been disordered that human beings
- 00:06:51have looked into over time they start to
- 00:06:53do deduce order and like Zeus is a great
- 00:06:55example of that right like they looked
- 00:06:57at thunder lightning and they were like
- 00:06:59oh that's just there's no way to
- 00:07:00understand that it's the whim of the
- 00:07:01gods and then some guy was like I don't
- 00:07:03accept that let me look into it and then
- 00:07:06there were all kinds of other forces
- 00:07:07that we attribute and this is why sort
- 00:07:09of like you know the domain of God is
- 00:07:11kind of shrinking over time
- 00:07:13so now we get to if there is
- 00:07:15fundamentally order in the universe and
- 00:07:17you guys are allowed to disagree with
- 00:07:19that right that's like I'm not a
- 00:07:20philosopher or anything and so maybe I'm
- 00:07:25wrong about that but generally speaking
- 00:07:27I think that we can have we have good
- 00:07:29evidence that human beings over time
- 00:07:31have like made ground and expanding into
- 00:07:36order or into disorder we've been like
- 00:07:39colonizing disorder with order and I
- 00:07:42think there's good scientific evidence
- 00:07:43behind that so now you know it starts
- 00:07:48with the hard sciences but like we're
- 00:07:49even starting to deduce order out of
- 00:07:51things that are unscientific so like
- 00:07:54economics or sociology or disciplines
- 00:07:57where there isn't like a clear science
- 00:08:00or I mean there is but but it's kind of
- 00:08:02like it's like a like it's not easily
- 00:08:05observable and testable but we can still
- 00:08:07find order principles within its
- 00:08:09function right so these are the
- 00:08:11quote-unquote soft sciences psychology
- 00:08:12is another good example like we can't
- 00:08:15you know do an x-ray or MRI of someone's
- 00:08:18brain and know what they're thinking but
- 00:08:20there's still ordered principles that
- 00:08:22psychology adheres to so now we get to
- 00:08:25Karma so what is garma okay
- 00:08:30karma is nothing more than the principle
- 00:08:35of cause and effect so some people say
- 00:08:41that what goes around comes around but
- 00:08:43that's incorrect actually garma is not
- 00:08:45what goes around comes around it's that
- 00:08:47every action has an equal and opposite
- 00:08:49reaction it's Newton's second law all
- 00:08:57really car by is is Newton's second law
- 00:08:59it's just applied on a scale or a third
- 00:09:02law is it third Locke they're like okay
- 00:09:07thanks for correcting me guys
- 00:09:09me llamo dr. K I mean sorry mae amo
- 00:09:12espanol oh [ __ ] I was gonna write ii
- 00:09:14again
- 00:09:16okay so Newton's third law every action
- 00:09:21has an equal and opposite reaction right
- 00:09:24so so the interesting thing is that like
- 00:09:27Newton said that this applies to physics
- 00:09:29but gaddama says that this is a general
- 00:09:31principle that applies to all things and
- 00:09:34that like it's not just physical objects
- 00:09:37that are subject to this karma priests
- 00:09:40like sort of says that if you have if
- 00:09:42actions have results then all actions
- 00:09:45have results are all forces have
- 00:09:47consequences and there's no way to
- 00:09:49escape these and so what like so physics
- 00:09:52you know this this is physics and then
- 00:09:55like we can sort of see that actions
- 00:09:57have results in terms of chemistry and
- 00:10:01then like biochemistry right so if I
- 00:10:06like mix like an alkane with like an
- 00:10:09acid something is gonna happen I don't
- 00:10:11remember right so and and then we end up
- 00:10:14with biology and then we end up with
- 00:10:17psychology and then we end up with
- 00:10:20behavioral economics
- 00:10:24and then we end up with advertising so
- 00:10:30as we can see like these are sort of the
- 00:10:32hard sciences right and then this is
- 00:10:35where we get into the soft sciences but
- 00:10:37even in advertising we know that if we
- 00:10:40elicit a particular kind of cause like
- 00:10:42if we place a particular object
- 00:10:44somewhere on a shelf it is likely to
- 00:10:47affect whether someone is willing to buy
- 00:10:49it or not
- 00:10:50probabilistically so this there's
- 00:10:53there's cause and effect here there's
- 00:10:56cause and effect here and then there's
- 00:10:59cause and effect
- 00:11:00garma so then we get to the areas where
- 00:11:02science says oh this is random so like
- 00:11:06you know why were you born a certain way
- 00:11:16so in my opinion the biggest revolution
- 00:11:23in karmic understanding so this is where
- 00:11:26people like get hung up on karma okay so
- 00:11:29people say that so this is fine we call
- 00:11:34this science but stuff like this is BS
- 00:11:38in is God in his religious and is
- 00:11:41unscientific and so karma says things
- 00:11:44like the what what is happening to you
- 00:11:46in this life to a certain amount or
- 00:11:49maybe all amounts but at least there's
- 00:11:52at least 1% chance let's start here so
- 00:11:54like people say like all of these things
- 00:11:56are observable within this life but
- 00:11:58there's no connection between things
- 00:12:00before this life in this life this is
- 00:12:03what science generally believes right
- 00:12:05that like fine you have a particular
- 00:12:08psychology and that determines your
- 00:12:09actor advertising behavior but all of
- 00:12:12that stuff is ensconced within this
- 00:12:15particular life and then as soon as we
- 00:12:17start doing things before this
- 00:12:18particular life we start to get into
- 00:12:21like hoity-toity stuff and like
- 00:12:23religious stuff and chakras and crystal
- 00:12:25healing and God and all that kind of
- 00:12:27auditory things so we don't accept that
- 00:12:30and Along Came genetics
- 00:12:33so I think the biggest contribution from
- 00:12:37modern science to support the theory of
- 00:12:40karma is genetics and that may sound
- 00:12:43like absolutely bizarre but I want you
- 00:12:44guys to think about this for a second a
- 00:12:46hundred and fifty years ago I want you
- 00:12:49to go back in time a hundred fifty years
- 00:12:52and pretend that you had the same
- 00:12:55skeptical like atheistic views that you
- 00:12:59have now like that that doesn't depend
- 00:13:01on a particular body of knowledge right
- 00:13:04it's like it's a view and pretend that I
- 00:13:06came to you 150 years ago and I said
- 00:13:08what you are in this life is actually
- 00:13:11determined by your parents it's
- 00:13:13determined by something that has nothing
- 00:13:15to do with what your choices are in this
- 00:13:18life that there is actually an order in
- 00:13:20a predictive capability to understanding
- 00:13:25how you turned out to be this way I can
- 00:13:28predict your hair color is not
- 00:13:30determined by anything in this life and
- 00:13:32furthermore is not random but there is
- 00:13:35actually a system of science that begins
- 00:13:38prior to where you when you are even
- 00:13:40born that is going to make a predictive
- 00:13:42capacity and shape your life today and
- 00:13:44people would have been like that's
- 00:13:46insane
- 00:13:47like there is no scientific link between
- 00:13:49anything that happens before and today
- 00:13:52and then along comes genetics and
- 00:13:54genetics is like actually what you are
- 00:13:56in this life is heavily determined by
- 00:13:58things be up before this life that are
- 00:14:00completely out of your a quote-unquote
- 00:14:02control we'll get to that in a second so
- 00:14:04this actually is is really fascinating
- 00:14:06because genetics actually in my opinion
- 00:14:08is one of the strongest supporters to
- 00:14:10the theory of karma because generally
- 00:14:13speaking when people sort of talk about
- 00:14:14God Amaya and how it's unscientific they
- 00:14:17draw they draw like a very important
- 00:14:20line between things in this life and
- 00:14:26things before this life
- 00:14:33right so the theory of karma like if you
- 00:14:35talk to Hindus and Buddhists they'll say
- 00:14:38that things in this life are determined
- 00:14:39by things before this life so this is
- 00:14:41like they're saying okay this actually
- 00:14:43leads to us and the first scientific
- 00:14:46evidence that we have of this is
- 00:14:47genetics and just think about that for a
- 00:14:50second so this opens up a whole world of
- 00:14:52possibility because if we have at least
- 00:14:55one piece of scientific evidence that
- 00:14:58supports that you can bridge this gap
- 00:15:01then like what does that say because
- 00:15:05then suddenly like this barrier becomes
- 00:15:06artificial right this barrier is no
- 00:15:10longer here and so what other kinds of
- 00:15:13influences from this life are we opening
- 00:15:16ourselves up to and this is basically
- 00:15:19what karma says all karma says and it's
- 00:15:22not really that complicated is that all
- 00:15:25causes have effects and all effects have
- 00:15:29causes that's really it it just says
- 00:15:31that if you look at anything there is
- 00:15:33there is a reason why this happened and
- 00:15:36not like a cosmic moral reason just a
- 00:15:39physical reason if I throw a pen up in
- 00:15:41the air the pen is gonna come down and
- 00:15:43so the problem that people have with
- 00:15:46government this is why karma is
- 00:15:47difficult to understand is because our
- 00:15:49knowledge of this life is restricted to
- 00:15:54this life okay so I want you guys to
- 00:15:58imagine something so imagine that
- 00:16:00there's a fence and there's a ball
- 00:16:03there's one person on the side on this
- 00:16:05side of the fence and there's a ball
- 00:16:06that comes down and like lands over here
- 00:16:08even though we can directly observe so
- 00:16:16even though this is the only thing that
- 00:16:17we can directly observe we can still
- 00:16:20extrapolate where this ball came from
- 00:16:22based on this and this is what karma
- 00:16:24does when people talk about like
- 00:16:28reincarnation and crap like that what
- 00:16:30they're doing is they're saying even
- 00:16:31though we can have only observe like
- 00:16:33half of this interaction we can still
- 00:16:36extrapolate like where things come from
- 00:16:37and
- 00:16:41anyway I don't I think that's just kind
- 00:16:43of like I don't have a particular I
- 00:16:44think that's worthy of further
- 00:16:47discussion but we don't really need to
- 00:16:48get into it I'm just sort of
- 00:16:49highlighting what theory of got about
- 00:16:52presupposes and so I think a good way to
- 00:16:54think about this if you guys want to
- 00:16:55understand karma is imagine that you
- 00:16:58have amnesia amnesia every time you
- 00:17:00sleep right so if like if you have
- 00:17:03amnesia every time you sleep whenever
- 00:17:04you wake up you only see the effects of
- 00:17:07your actions in the past even though you
- 00:17:10have no direct knowledge of them so if
- 00:17:13you wake up in the morning and you see
- 00:17:15like a dirty a sink full of dirty dishes
- 00:17:18and you're like oh like that's
- 00:17:20completely random like oh I just you
- 00:17:22know unlucky me but no it's not unlucky
- 00:17:25you it's because you didn't do the
- 00:17:27dishes yesterday so I think if you want
- 00:17:29to understand this whole business about
- 00:17:31like prior lives and reincarnation and
- 00:17:34crap like that like from an intellectual
- 00:17:36or philosophical way you all you need to
- 00:17:38do is the thought experiment is did I
- 00:17:43say dirty dick all you have to do is is
- 00:17:48kind of do this thought experiment where
- 00:17:49you have amnesia every time you go to
- 00:17:51sleep and like that's what people sort
- 00:17:53of describe is like karma and and kind
- 00:17:56of past lives and stuff like that so
- 00:17:58what does this mean I mean I think all
- 00:17:59this stuff is kind of interesting but
- 00:18:02the question is like what does this mean
- 00:18:04for us okay so so how does karma affect
- 00:18:07our lives now like what can we you how
- 00:18:10can we use this information the first is
- 00:18:12that karma is a system of cultivation
- 00:18:17not creation
- 00:18:19[Music]
- 00:18:21and so when you guys I want you guys to
- 00:18:23think about it this way you want to
- 00:18:25change your life right you can't change
- 00:18:27your life all you can do is so cut them
- 00:18:30up so what I mean by that is like if I
- 00:18:32ask sometimes I'll ask people like how
- 00:18:34do you grow a plant and they'll say like
- 00:18:36you plant it and then you water it and
- 00:18:38then you give it sunlight and then the
- 00:18:40question is if you plant something like
- 00:18:42let's say I put a seed down here and
- 00:18:43this is dirt and then I add water right
- 00:18:47and then I add sunlight does the plant
- 00:18:53grow do we get a chute right does that
- 00:18:59happen or does it not happen and the
- 00:19:01answer is we don't really know yes
- 00:19:07depends hopefully sometimes not always
- 00:19:14right so let's just think about that for
- 00:19:17a second so when you guys live your life
- 00:19:19and you commit to an action in your mind
- 00:19:25what do you think is gonna happen
- 00:19:28because people say like so now let's
- 00:19:30like think think about this for a second
- 00:19:32so I made a mistake like I didn't do
- 00:19:33well on this test and like the idea is
- 00:19:36that you have a sense that you control
- 00:19:38what happens when you do something right
- 00:19:42you have this idea like this is why you
- 00:19:43blame yourself because like if it's if I
- 00:19:46didn't study enough then it's my fault
- 00:19:49that I did bad on the test that the
- 00:19:51action has a certain coral-like
- 00:19:56leads not even correlation to a result
- 00:20:00what what gaddama says is that you can
- 00:20:03do all of the right things right like
- 00:20:08you can you can provide sunlight and
- 00:20:10water and fertilizer and that the plant
- 00:20:13may not grow and why is this it's
- 00:20:15because there are other forces which are
- 00:20:17your prior Karma's which despite doing
- 00:20:23all of the right things can actually
- 00:20:25cause an action to not happen and what
- 00:20:28this means is like it's not actually in
- 00:20:31a sense that's sort of not your fault
- 00:20:32because you know
- 00:20:35I'm jumping around too much let me see
- 00:20:37if I can explain this a little bit
- 00:20:39better so this is what I see a lot of
- 00:20:44people have problems with is that they
- 00:20:46blame themselves for not getting a
- 00:20:50particular result right so like if you
- 00:20:52are a college dropout or a NEET you like
- 00:20:55judge yourself and you're like I'm a
- 00:20:56piece of [ __ ] because I didn't graduate
- 00:20:58from college and I'm not like this and
- 00:21:00I'm not like this and if you think about
- 00:21:02that that blame it only works like you
- 00:21:06can only blame yourself if you're
- 00:21:09responsible like if you're not
- 00:21:10responsible like if you don't control
- 00:21:13this and this isn't true then you can't
- 00:21:15completely you can't blame yourself for
- 00:21:17this
- 00:21:17this blame comes from a presupposition
- 00:21:20that you control the result if you don't
- 00:21:28control the result then you can't be to
- 00:21:30blame right it's kind of like saying you
- 00:21:32know I showed up at the rental car place
- 00:21:33and I made a reservation and I have a
- 00:21:36confirmation number but there was a
- 00:21:38glitch in their system and their
- 00:21:39computer systems are down so is that
- 00:21:42your fault
- 00:21:42like no obviously not so the more that
- 00:21:45you believe that you control this part
- 00:21:47or actually that's not right I wish I
- 00:21:50could undo oh crap okay they're
- 00:21:51beautiful the more that you believe you
- 00:21:53control this part the more likely you
- 00:21:56are to blame yourself because if you
- 00:21:58don't control this then there's no like
- 00:21:59it doesn't make any sense to blame and
- 00:22:01if we think about what holds you back
- 00:22:02when we were talking about like
- 00:22:04avoidance procrastination and things
- 00:22:05like that your self blame holds you back
- 00:22:16right like that's true like you holding
- 00:22:18yourself back because like oh I'm such a
- 00:22:20[ __ ] this this and this you can't
- 00:22:21forgive yourself you can't let go you
- 00:22:23can't like cut yourself a break for
- 00:22:25being the person that you are and
- 00:22:27screwing things up so the question is is
- 00:22:29there some way to make it easier to
- 00:22:31forgive yourself and the answer is yes
- 00:22:33if you look at karma and what karma says
- 00:22:36is that this actually is not yours to
- 00:22:38control like this is crazy man all you
- 00:22:41control is this you can water a plant
- 00:22:47you can give it sunlight and you can
- 00:22:54give it fertilizer but that does not
- 00:23:00equal growth this is what you guys
- 00:23:05really have to understand and now I want
- 00:23:08you guys to think about this like what
- 00:23:12does this do for your life if you start
- 00:23:14to think about yourself in this way
- 00:23:26it's not even don't just don't be
- 00:23:28emotionally invested in the outcome
- 00:23:30understand that like you are only
- 00:23:33capable of exerting a certain amount of
- 00:23:35control right and this is the other
- 00:23:43thing that I want you guys to understand
- 00:23:44even when you feel like you don't do
- 00:23:47your best you are doing your best right
- 00:23:51this is the other really really crazy
- 00:23:52thing about karma is that like karma
- 00:23:54says that you know you so let's say you
- 00:23:58blame yourself for like skipping a test
- 00:24:00because you were afraid you were gonna
- 00:24:02fail and then you use hold yourself
- 00:24:05responsible for that but what you guys
- 00:24:07aren't acknowledging is that that person
- 00:24:12skips tests due to anxiety of failure
- 00:24:21right so like you have an option to move
- 00:24:24forward to take the test or skip it but
- 00:24:28this person that you are this is the
- 00:24:34problem with this way of thinking okay
- 00:24:35is you guys think that time starts here
- 00:24:42t0 is here right you guys think like oh
- 00:24:45I should have done that but what you
- 00:24:47guys need to understand is that this
- 00:24:48person is the result of past Karma's so
- 00:24:55time doesn't actually start here your
- 00:24:58capability to man up and take that test
- 00:25:00or woman up and take that test is not
- 00:25:03actually like it's not like you have a
- 00:25:06like you don't have like absolute
- 00:25:09control in that moment you are sort of a
- 00:25:11product of your prior circumstances and
- 00:25:14if your prior circumstances have not
- 00:25:16been good like never went to class
- 00:25:21[Music]
- 00:25:24got dumped by someone and mom and dad
- 00:25:33got divorced okay so like if all the
- 00:25:40[ __ ] is going on like you can't really
- 00:25:41blame yourself for for like skipping a
- 00:25:44test just think about that like it's not
- 00:25:47like you you blame yourselves fully
- 00:25:49right so there's absolute judgment here
- 00:25:51you're an absolute [ __ ] but that's
- 00:25:56actually not a fair way to look at
- 00:25:57yourself because there's all kinds of
- 00:25:59crap that got injected into you and and
- 00:26:02some of this stuff is even things like
- 00:26:04neglectful parents or genetics or even
- 00:26:15that you were not given certain
- 00:26:16advantages in life so I was given a
- 00:26:19bunch of advantages so my parents for
- 00:26:25example like financially supported me
- 00:26:27when I was like 24 and in not making any
- 00:26:29money or anything like that and so when
- 00:26:32people look at my success so if I'm if
- 00:26:35we put success over here and we make
- 00:26:38this person dr. K they say like Oh dr. K
- 00:26:42is so different he's so smart he's not
- 00:26:44lazy what they don't get is that I have
- 00:26:46this right and what what you guys don't
- 00:26:49get is that like you know you guys maybe
- 00:26:52had this or this or trauma in the past
- 00:26:56or anxiety so now the interesting thing
- 00:26:59is that like so what that means is that
- 00:27:04I don't in the same way that I don't
- 00:27:07blame myself for my failures I also
- 00:27:09don't own my successes so I don't
- 00:27:12believe that I'm successful because I'm
- 00:27:14like hardworking and I lifted myself up
- 00:27:16by my bootstraps you detach from all of
- 00:27:19it because if I free myself from my
- 00:27:20failures I also free myself from my
- 00:27:22successes when I look back on my on my
- 00:27:24life and I recognize like oh I had a
- 00:27:26bunch of advantages like I was born
- 00:27:27Indian like that was a huge advantage
- 00:27:29why was it a huge advantage it's because
- 00:27:31the body of knowledge that I chose to
- 00:27:34learn from or that I was exposed
- 00:27:37I had like a racial advantage like I had
- 00:27:40a race bonus to learn yoga because I
- 00:27:43grew up understanding words that were
- 00:27:46spoken in my household that when I when
- 00:27:48I let go to an ashram and they're like
- 00:27:50Caucasian people there I realized like I
- 00:27:53just have an advantage over them because
- 00:27:55some of these concepts are baked into
- 00:27:57the language that was spoken in my house
- 00:27:58doesn't mean I'm smarter it just means
- 00:28:01that like they're trying to understand
- 00:28:03some concepts that like I grew up with
- 00:28:05like they're learning yoga for the first
- 00:28:06time at the age of 21 and when I went to
- 00:28:08Sunday school at the age of 8 like
- 00:28:10people taught me yoga it's absolutely
- 00:28:13like a race bonus and so if I have a
- 00:28:16race bonus that other people don't have
- 00:28:18like how can i how can I say that I'm
- 00:28:21better in like oh like I'm so successful
- 00:28:22because like I'm so much better than you
- 00:28:24like you guys suck and I'm amazing
- 00:28:26because like I'm so smart no it's dumb
- 00:28:28it's a race bone it's like I didn't do
- 00:28:29anything to deserve that and so it
- 00:28:33changes if if you don't deserve your
- 00:28:35successes then you also don't deserve
- 00:28:36your failures it's not really under your
- 00:28:39control
- 00:28:42so yeah right so like just think about
- 00:28:47that for a second this leads to all this
- 00:28:49stuff that we want like humility and
- 00:28:50confidence and self forgiveness in
- 00:28:53compassion and people like how do I do
- 00:28:55that stuff I'm like oh you should learn
- 00:28:57how to forgive yourself and they're like
- 00:28:59how do I do that this is the way that
- 00:29:00you do that you understand this so the
- 00:29:03next thing is this also changes the way
- 00:29:09that you act because here's the real
- 00:29:11scam okay is that according to karma you
- 00:29:18actually control all this [ __ ] this is a
- 00:29:23really crazy thing okay and what I mean
- 00:29:25by that and but we're gonna focus on
- 00:29:26really one part of it is this this is
- 00:29:30the operative thing right so now what I
- 00:29:37want you guys to do is recognize that
- 00:29:39going to class is not about getting a
- 00:29:41grade going to class is about providing
- 00:29:45a buff for future you it's not about
- 00:29:49passing the test
- 00:29:50it's not about graduating
- 00:29:51from college it's not about getting a
- 00:29:53good job it's just about buffing future
- 00:29:56you and this is what karma is karma is
- 00:29:59giving yourself the opportunity to
- 00:30:02cultivate things for yourself you can
- 00:30:04plant a dozen seeds but you can't make
- 00:30:06them grow so what you guys should focus
- 00:30:08on is planting seeds but the problem is
- 00:30:11that when you plant a seed and that's
- 00:30:13your focus and it doesn't grow then how
- 00:30:16bummed out are you you're a little bit
- 00:30:18bummed out but if you plant a seed and
- 00:30:20then you try to like really really make
- 00:30:22it grow you're like man I want that
- 00:30:24plant to grow I really want the plant to
- 00:30:25grow I want to graduate I want to get a
- 00:30:26good job I want to get a girlfriend I
- 00:30:28want to move out a house I won't do this
- 00:30:29I don't do that I want this seven but
- 00:30:31that's HAP na na ma you're not focused
- 00:30:33on the sea you're focused on the fruit
- 00:30:35right you're focused on the end game and
- 00:30:37then what happens is if things don't go
- 00:30:40your way then you get disappointed and
- 00:30:42the disappointment keeps you from acting
- 00:30:44and so instead what I want you guys to
- 00:30:47focus on is like the action focus on
- 00:30:50going to class and change your view from
- 00:30:52I want to graduate to I want to set
- 00:30:55myself up to graduate it's it's a tiny
- 00:30:58little shift but it's revolutionary like
- 00:31:02every day when you guys come to this
- 00:31:03webinar and you do 10 or 15 minutes of
- 00:31:06yoga that's a positive that's a positive
- 00:31:09buff right these are the positive ones
- 00:31:11yoga so I don't think you guys realize
- 00:31:13by coming here and doing yoga you're
- 00:31:16actually buffing future you and then
- 00:31:18like things are gonna start to change in
- 00:31:20your favor this is what I see time and
- 00:31:22time and time again is that when people
- 00:31:24start sowing positive karma they don't
- 00:31:28really know what the result is gonna be
- 00:31:29like there's no clear way when yoga's
- 00:31:35over here every day what does that lead
- 00:31:39to
- 00:31:41job girlfriend-boyfriend
- 00:31:45does that lead to that no not not not at
- 00:31:48all like it's like how does yoga lead to
- 00:31:50any of that but Yoga is one of these
- 00:31:54influences it's one of the influences
- 00:31:56that you don't see and that what I've
- 00:31:59noticed time and time again and I've
- 00:32:01done this work now with like literally
- 00:32:02hundreds of people is that when they
- 00:32:04start doing yoga every day like [ __ ] in
- 00:32:06their life just starts to get better and
- 00:32:07that cause and effect look so distant
- 00:32:10that it's hard to like really see and so
- 00:32:14what I want you guys to do is like
- 00:32:15cultivate good things for yourself don't
- 00:32:18do good things for yourself
- 00:32:19cultivate good things for yourself right
- 00:32:23cultivate a life for yourself or an
- 00:32:25attitude for yourself by like doing good
- 00:32:27things that don't have a reason like
- 00:32:31don't have a good reason behind them I
- 00:32:32know it sounds completely crazy because
- 00:32:34right now you guys do things because of
- 00:32:36particular reasons and if those reasons
- 00:32:38don't pan out then you feel disappointed
- 00:32:40and stuck and you feel like it's useless
- 00:32:42to do stuff in that frame of mind leads
- 00:32:46to you feeling like doing stuff is
- 00:32:48useless just think about that for a
- 00:32:49second
- 00:32:50if action does not lead to result it
- 00:32:58creates a negative feedback loop for
- 00:33:01action right so this scenario results in
- 00:33:10inaction
- 00:33:12if action has no effect to result what
- 00:33:21does this lead to this actually leads to
- 00:33:25action
- 00:33:28bizarre [ __ ] crazy this is karma
- 00:33:32karma is saying sow the seed sow the
- 00:33:35seed sow the seed we don't know if it's
- 00:33:37gonna grow we don't know if it's gonna
- 00:33:39grow we don't know it's gonna grow this
- 00:33:42actually leads to action it's bizarre
- 00:33:49because then what happens is like this
- 00:33:51is what's crazy is the result starts to
- 00:33:54come right at some point if you plant
- 00:33:56enough seeds stuff is gonna start to
- 00:33:59grow like that's gonna happen you guys
- 00:34:02get that like if you go to the library
- 00:34:04and you study every day like at some
- 00:34:06point you're gonna start passing tests
- 00:34:07but the key thing is to not go to the
- 00:34:10library to pass tests it's crazy if you
- 00:34:14try to pass a test by going to library
- 00:34:16you're not going to go good if you don't
- 00:34:23know what to think then you're doing it
- 00:34:24right
- 00:34:25see this is the problem is you guys get
- 00:34:27stuck in this negative feedback loop
- 00:34:30this is the problem right here anyway
- 00:34:35okay so let's is to cheat code
- 00:34:41absolutely that's what I'm telling you
- 00:34:42guys karma is like a cheat code because
- 00:34:44it gives you it's not a cheat code it's
- 00:34:45a walkthrough right it doesn't allow you
- 00:34:49to break the rules in a new way it's
- 00:34:52like you know finding like a fountain in
- 00:34:55a game that makes you like invulnerable
- 00:34:57or buffs your stats it just makes the
- 00:34:58game way easier to play okay so let's do
- 00:35:06QA
- 00:35:07[Music]
- 00:35:13all right so ah very good annex so anak
- 00:35:25says this almost feels like I'm not
- 00:35:26responsible for anything your act
- 00:35:28actually in a weird way you're
- 00:35:29absolutely right
- 00:35:30so the problem is that we view
- 00:35:33responsibility with the result when we
- 00:35:38think about I'm not responsible for
- 00:35:39anything we lump these two together
- 00:35:41right so we think about like if we think
- 00:35:43about someone who's responsible the way
- 00:35:46we describe a responsible person is by
- 00:35:49results we say they have a job they
- 00:35:51moved out of the house they have a
- 00:35:52family they pay a mortgage they do this
- 00:35:54they do that like they think about all
- 00:35:56these kinds of things they think about
- 00:35:57results but what you're actually
- 00:35:59responsible for is your actions this is
- 00:36:02where responsibility lies is with
- 00:36:06actions not with the results and the
- 00:36:08more you focus on being responsible for
- 00:36:10your actions and letting go of your
- 00:36:12results the better off you're gonna be
- 00:36:13yeah my question is if a person is in
- 00:36:16the habit of blaming themselves for
- 00:36:18misfortunes in life doesn't karma give
- 00:36:20them the opportunity to blame their
- 00:36:22circumstances and if blame is not
- 00:36:24healthy then how do you dissolve the
- 00:36:26habit of blaming and not become a doer
- 00:36:28okay great question so the first thing
- 00:36:30is that like so if you aren't
- 00:36:33responsible for the result can't you're
- 00:36:36saying if you're not responsible for the
- 00:36:37result can't you become a Doomer because
- 00:36:41everything is sort of destined is that
- 00:36:44what you mean Oh kind of like for
- 00:36:47example if I have a habit of blaming
- 00:36:50myself like I was I if I'm like
- 00:36:53everything that's happened in my life is
- 00:36:55my fault because I didn't do anything
- 00:36:56about it up until this point then
- 00:36:59doesn't understanding carmella doesn't
- 00:37:02that make me able to blame that oh it
- 00:37:04was all life's fault so therefore it's
- 00:37:07not my fault
- 00:37:07therefore it's fine if I don't do
- 00:37:09anything about it so yes and no so this
- 00:37:12is the thing to understand so like I
- 00:37:14don't know if you're are you basically
- 00:37:16saying that like you
- 00:37:18it's life's fault therefore it's destiny
- 00:37:20it's not me sort of yes okay so this is
- 00:37:24what you guys have to understand so like
- 00:37:26you know this debate
- 00:37:27between freewill in destiny that exists
- 00:37:30in the in the West
- 00:37:32garma fixes this beautifully so there's
- 00:37:34no debate in karma so what karma says is
- 00:37:36that it is your choice whether you jump
- 00:37:39off a cliff but once you jump off a
- 00:37:41cliff you're destined to fall so karma
- 00:37:44is a tie between freewill and destiny
- 00:37:48and you're absolutely right that if you
- 00:37:51look back on your life and you say
- 00:37:52there's nothing else I could have done
- 00:37:53in a bizarre way you're right but that
- 00:37:55doesn't mean that there's nothing you
- 00:37:56can't do today in fact what you should
- 00:37:59do is reframe that to recognize there's
- 00:38:01no you couldn't have done any better
- 00:38:03than you did but today is a new day and
- 00:38:05you can sow new karma so you don't
- 00:38:07control anything that happened in the
- 00:38:09past but in the present moment your
- 00:38:11actions will influence the future I mean
- 00:38:15that makes sense for me but from a point
- 00:38:18of view of somebody who I was before it
- 00:38:20seems like it's a hard concept to wrap
- 00:38:22my mind around if I'm in the process of
- 00:38:25if I'm just blaming myself and then I
- 00:38:28get an out that I didn't blame
- 00:38:29circumstance sure so your circumstances
- 00:38:32so let's think about it this way right
- 00:38:33these are circumstances that are out of
- 00:38:36your control so not my fault so be it
- 00:38:41I accept it you're correct not your
- 00:38:44fault the question is what is the next
- 00:38:47arrow that you put forward because at
- 00:38:52this point it starts to become your
- 00:38:59fault
- 00:39:01what do you think about that ice yeah
- 00:39:04that yeah I see the distinction now I
- 00:39:07think it's a it's like a fine line but
- 00:39:09like the idea is that doing everything
- 00:39:14you can do is doing something now
- 00:39:16absolutely under right so even if we
- 00:39:20accept that the past is not your fault
- 00:39:21because you couldn't control those
- 00:39:23garments the these garments over here
- 00:39:25was like you jumping off of like various
- 00:39:27cliffs in past lives which you can't
- 00:39:29control so if you want to let go of
- 00:39:31blaming yourself there so be it tell
- 00:39:34yourself it wasn't my fault there was
- 00:39:36nothing I could have done but today is a
- 00:39:38new day and you can definitely so new
- 00:39:39seeds today so in a weird way I don't
- 00:39:44want you to blame yourself
- 00:39:45like if you're saying like how do I
- 00:39:46don't i absolve myself with
- 00:39:48responsibility go for it man unburden
- 00:39:50yourself of responsibility learn to
- 00:39:53forgive yourself for not achieving that
- 00:39:54which you wanted to achieve and wake up
- 00:39:57today and recognize that today is a new
- 00:39:59day and I can sow new seeds and have new
- 00:40:01results yeah it's bizarre but you're
- 00:40:08absolutely correct you just seem easier
- 00:40:12so see the the tricky think about what
- 00:40:14you're saying is they say if this isn't
- 00:40:16my fault then this isn't my fault this
- 00:40:20is the false correlation right here
- 00:40:23right this is where the nihilist or the
- 00:40:27person who's like hedonistic or has no
- 00:40:29meaning in life this is the correlation
- 00:40:31that they make that the past and the
- 00:40:33future are tied together but they're not
- 00:40:35today is a different day in the actions
- 00:40:37the Karma the seeds that you sow today
- 00:40:40like it's like waking up one day and
- 00:40:42looking out at your garden and saying I
- 00:40:44have no fruit trees and it's like yeah
- 00:40:46man like you can't wait you can't blame
- 00:40:48yourself for not having fruit trees now
- 00:40:49because you didn't plant anything in the
- 00:40:51past but today you can plant and whether
- 00:40:56you have fruit trees in your your yard a
- 00:40:58year from now or not depends on whether
- 00:41:00you plant today and you can even plant a
- 00:41:02dozen trees today and maybe none of them
- 00:41:04will grow there's a chance that a year
- 00:41:05from now you'll still have no fruit
- 00:41:07trees but when you fast forward to a
- 00:41:10year from now and you look back on your
- 00:41:12life and you're like okay there are no
- 00:41:14fruit trees but you
- 00:41:15know what I actually planted 1212 seeds
- 00:41:19and I watered them every day and I gave
- 00:41:21him sunlight and soil I did the best
- 00:41:23that I could okay this is what I was
- 00:41:27saying so when you look back at your
- 00:41:30life a year let's let's say you fast
- 00:41:32forward a year from now and then you
- 00:41:33still don't have any fruit trees in your
- 00:41:36garden something magical is gonna happen
- 00:41:39even though you have no fruit trees in
- 00:41:41your back garden you're gonna look back
- 00:41:42on your life and you're gonna say you
- 00:41:43know what [ __ ] it I did the best that I
- 00:41:46could so I should rest easy and
- 00:41:48sometimes life just throws you a
- 00:41:49curveball and you can't do it the
- 00:41:51question is did I do the best that I can
- 00:41:53and should I be able to sleep at night
- 00:41:54right this is a problem that physicians
- 00:41:57face when their patients die
- 00:41:58whether you sleep at night as a
- 00:42:00physician depends not on whether your
- 00:42:01patient died or not although sometimes
- 00:42:03it takes time to learn this isn't
- 00:42:06recognizing I did the best that I could
- 00:42:07and sometimes bad [ __ ] happens and the
- 00:42:11problem right now is that you guys have
- 00:42:12not done the best that you could a year
- 00:42:14ago you didn't do the best that you
- 00:42:16could and that's what you blame yourself
- 00:42:17for so it's not about being successful
- 00:42:20or not being successful it's about
- 00:42:21living a life without regrets living a
- 00:42:24life in a way that you free yourself
- 00:42:26from blame because you give it
- 00:42:27everything you've got I mean it feels
- 00:42:29amazing to give it everything you got
- 00:42:31because a lot of times things work out
- 00:42:32and sometimes things don't work out and
- 00:42:34if you play a game and you play like
- 00:42:36let's say I'm playing a game of dota or
- 00:42:37something or Lal or valor --nt right and
- 00:42:39if I like played the best that I
- 00:42:41absolutely could and like I get crushed
- 00:42:43like that's okay does that make sense
- 00:42:48you doesn't make sense yeah
- 00:42:50yeah and if I if I think about what you
- 00:42:55know if I could wish one thing for you
- 00:42:56guys it's not success what I think most
- 00:42:59of the people who watch the stream are
- 00:43:01looking for is to wake up one day and
- 00:43:03say I gave it my all that's what they
- 00:43:05want they don't want success they want
- 00:43:08to wake up one day and be happy with the
- 00:43:10person that they are and be happy with
- 00:43:11the work that they put out into the
- 00:43:13world they actually don't want a million
- 00:43:16dollars like that is not what's missing
- 00:43:18I have an analogy I just want to make
- 00:43:22sure I got this correct
- 00:43:23for example dota analogy you can try to
- 00:43:26push the lane and kill creeps but you
- 00:43:28don't guarantee weather
- 00:43:29get the power absolutely is it is that
- 00:43:31absolutely right like so you don't
- 00:43:33respond you don't determine when you're
- 00:43:34pushing a tower you don't determine
- 00:43:36whether they five-man rotate to defend
- 00:43:38it and gank you or whether no one shows
- 00:43:40up you just have to do the right thing
- 00:43:44yeah thank you okay next question
- 00:43:55hey doctor stay with them just get a
- 00:43:58mute stream hey man
- 00:44:00okay hey so um my questions or just they
- 00:44:05would like to give you a quick
- 00:44:06background like I feel like I have a lot
- 00:44:08of grief related to those past Karma's
- 00:44:11sure because because I feel like I mean
- 00:44:15in essence I feel like I've lost five
- 00:44:17years of my life like although although
- 00:44:19something good is like coming out of
- 00:44:21those years where like in like you
- 00:44:23mentioned in a stream earlier I feel
- 00:44:24like I'm not building building my
- 00:44:26foundation on a house of cards it's like
- 00:44:28a stronger foundation coming from it
- 00:44:30good but I I guess my question is like
- 00:44:35how is karma different from setting up
- 00:44:37good habits like like yeah is there a
- 00:44:40difference between the two
- 00:44:41like just focusing on building good
- 00:44:44habits that might set you up for success
- 00:44:46or like just a concept of karma like
- 00:44:48what's the difference between them there
- 00:44:50isn't right so like a good habit is the
- 00:44:54fruit of a karma so if I wake up and I
- 00:44:58do yoga every day the action that I do
- 00:45:00is yoga on a daily basis or it's not
- 00:45:04even a daily basis all I can do is yoga
- 00:45:06today if I do yoga today and then when
- 00:45:08talk tomorrow rolls around I can do yoga
- 00:45:10or not do yoga
- 00:45:12like when does it become a habit like
- 00:45:13what does a habit how do I find a habit
- 00:45:15like what is that show me a habit
- 00:45:21rhetorical so how do I know whether
- 00:45:24something is a habit I'm just using like
- 00:45:29this habit bull F and I'm like it says
- 00:45:31it takes 66 days to build a habit I know
- 00:45:33but I'm asking what is a habit like I
- 00:45:38feel like for example I want to make
- 00:45:40yoga have it for me where it's like I do
- 00:45:42it every day I'm not asking you what you
- 00:45:45want your habit to be I'm asking you
- 00:45:47what is a habit okay it's something I do
- 00:45:52every day regardless of what it brings
- 00:45:56me okay so does that sound like Karma to
- 00:46:00you okay so I mean maybe not that
- 00:46:05everyday concept like very good
- 00:46:08excellent
- 00:46:08so this is the main thing that you need
- 00:46:10to understand a habit is not something
- 00:46:12you can have going forward it's
- 00:46:14something that you look back on okay I'm
- 00:46:19not sure it follow so like a guard my
- 00:46:22Garmin is about action in the present
- 00:46:25right and habit is is is like it's kind
- 00:46:31of I mean there are some things that are
- 00:46:33habit but let me put it this way like
- 00:46:34you said you notice that you you paused
- 00:46:36at the word every day it's something
- 00:46:39that you do every day that you you know
- 00:46:40that is relatively easy for you or
- 00:46:42whatever but the king the key difference
- 00:46:45between habit and Karma is habit is like
- 00:46:47you don't you can't have a habit going
- 00:46:49forward you can have a habit when you
- 00:46:50look back so when you look back and you
- 00:46:52take actions on a daily basis without
- 00:46:55the exertion of willpower that is what
- 00:46:58we call a habit it's an automatic
- 00:46:59behavior oh yeah yeah right how's the
- 00:47:04difference from karma it's different
- 00:47:06because karma is about the present and a
- 00:47:08habit is about the past you can't have a
- 00:47:10habit going forward because you have no
- 00:47:12idea what you're gonna do tomorrow it
- 00:47:16feels like your Karma maybe covers your
- 00:47:20mindset as well whereas habit is like
- 00:47:22just the action so yeah well I think
- 00:47:25that garma has a lot to do with mindset
- 00:47:27and so let me let me put it so your
- 00:47:30question was is habit different from
- 00:47:32Karma so I think some people got what I
- 00:47:33was saying about a habit is in the past
- 00:47:35but so I'll put it this way so if you so
- 00:47:38if you take the right actions on a daily
- 00:47:40basis one of the fruits that garma can
- 00:47:43bear is something called a habit and a
- 00:47:46habit is the capacity to engage in a
- 00:47:48behavior with a relatively low
- 00:47:50investment of willpower or even like an
- 00:47:53automaticity to it like a habit is like
- 00:47:56an automatic behavior right it becomes
- 00:47:59easy once it becomes a habit and I think
- 00:48:00habits are built through karmic actions
- 00:48:07okay so Karan was like laying the seeds
- 00:48:10for the habit to grow yes
- 00:48:12and then the habit is also up Gautama
- 00:48:15for future you so this is what karma
- 00:48:18says right is that there are causes and
- 00:48:20effects and effects or causes
- 00:48:22it's a loop it's not linear so if I
- 00:48:26throw a ball up in the air and then the
- 00:48:28ball lands on the ground the next time I
- 00:48:31walk into the room the ball is gonna be
- 00:48:33on the ground right and then then I can
- 00:48:36pick the ball up so all things are tied
- 00:48:38like causes lead to effects and in
- 00:48:40effects in turn or future causes does
- 00:48:42that make sense or no um I'd like to be
- 00:48:47honest I'm not getting it good no but I
- 00:48:49I might I might listen to this yeah let
- 00:48:52me let me explain it so it's let's let's
- 00:48:53spend time on this okay so let me think
- 00:48:55let me show you something okay so let's
- 00:48:58say that I study every day at the
- 00:49:00library what's what's the result of
- 00:49:06studying every day at the library I'm
- 00:49:12like a good study habits so like if a
- 00:49:15test comes you you don't have to like
- 00:49:17take radical change - great therefore it
- 00:49:20you're oh you already know good study
- 00:49:22habit so let me ask you something so we
- 00:49:26can sort of say that a good study habit
- 00:49:27is the result of the Karma of studying
- 00:49:31every day right fair yeah okay so now my
- 00:49:38question to you and what's your name
- 00:49:40buddy Simon Simon is that does a good
- 00:49:44study habit is that a cause for future
- 00:49:47effects or is that the end of the rope
- 00:49:53for me personally that feels like a like
- 00:49:58something for future results absolutely
- 00:50:00right so then you you graduate from
- 00:50:02college let's say okay so now we can see
- 00:50:10that the good study habit is both an
- 00:50:12effect and a cause do you see that yeah
- 00:50:20right so like what's the relationship
- 00:50:24between karma and habit a habit is just
- 00:50:27one result that is also like a future
- 00:50:29cause but at the end of the day like so
- 00:50:33this is this is exactly the point is
- 00:50:35that if you think about
- 00:50:36current you and what kind of action you
- 00:50:40take if you've got two choices right to
- 00:50:45take act in a good way or at that
- 00:50:50current you is the result of prior
- 00:50:53Karma's and so like good study habits go
- 00:50:57here let's say gaming goes here right
- 00:51:06because you stayed up too late and then
- 00:51:07like let's say this is do you go to
- 00:51:09class and then this is yes and this is
- 00:51:16no so do you see that like in this
- 00:51:17scenario your prior actions create the
- 00:51:23you that exists now in shapes your
- 00:51:26likelihood to take actions in the future
- 00:51:29do you get that yeah yeah I know okay
- 00:51:35so like where do habits come in because
- 00:51:38habits are created by prior Karma's does
- 00:51:45that make sense like whether you go to
- 00:51:47the library every day or not determines
- 00:51:49whether you have good study habits yeah
- 00:51:54yeah like what path karma has an effect
- 00:51:57on you or have this today absolutely so
- 00:52:00then did you so what's your question or
- 00:52:02if I answered that like I got the sense
- 00:52:04that your question is what's the
- 00:52:05relationship between karma and study
- 00:52:07habits and and this is sort of the
- 00:52:09answer that I have for you is that karma
- 00:52:10shapes your study habits but then your
- 00:52:12study habits are in and of themselves a
- 00:52:15karmic effect for future you so they're
- 00:52:22they're intertwined absolutely oh okay
- 00:52:25yeah yeah again so that yeah so my
- 00:52:28habits will become my Karma for my
- 00:52:31future self exactly okay and so the way
- 00:52:34that I want you guys to live your life
- 00:52:35is to build Karma's for your future self
- 00:52:38don't become a don't develop good study
- 00:52:41habits so that you can graduate just set
- 00:52:44up like try to help out like if you ever
- 00:52:46played a game like you know wow where
- 00:52:48you you create
- 00:52:49an alt and you send money from your like
- 00:52:52prior character to your like alt you
- 00:52:55know what I'm talking about that yes
- 00:52:57sweetie
- 00:52:58I'm trying to teach people on the
- 00:53:00internet about Karma
- 00:53:04I don't know why that's a good question
- 00:53:07it's okay she can say just almost done
- 00:53:10Meili okay hold on it's okay you can say
- 00:53:13okay so so I'm gonna give you guys one
- 00:53:17last gaming analogy and then I gotta run
- 00:53:18okay so in World of Warcraft you can
- 00:53:21have a high level character who makes
- 00:53:23money really really fast and then you
- 00:53:26can create a new low level character and
- 00:53:28then the money like the low level
- 00:53:30character earns money in a far slower
- 00:53:32rate than the high level character and
- 00:53:34so what I want you guys to think about
- 00:53:37in karma is like when you have a high
- 00:53:39level character you can send stuff from
- 00:53:41your high level character to your low
- 00:53:42level character and it really
- 00:53:44accelerates your growth and so what I
- 00:53:46want you guys to understand about karma
- 00:53:48is like sowing good Karma's is like
- 00:53:50sending stuff to your future self so
- 00:53:53you're like setting up your all for
- 00:53:54success or failure or an ease of success
- 00:53:57or failure down the road you guys got it
- 00:54:01I don't know if that makes sense if you
- 00:54:02don't play wow it can be hard to
- 00:54:03understand but ok good thanks for asking
- 00:54:09Simon I got a run guys but thanks thanks
- 00:54:13for asking you a question man thank you
- 00:54:16thank you ok so
- 00:54:21compound interest is absolutely right so
- 00:54:24one person says compound interest so I
- 00:54:26want you guys to understand this very
- 00:54:27clearly okay the difference between and
- 00:54:31I mean I say I keep on making
- 00:54:33comparisons so maybe that's not good but
- 00:54:34the difference between me and you is not
- 00:54:37that I'm smarter the difference between
- 00:54:39me and you is compound interest right so
- 00:54:42like I'm older than most of our audience
- 00:54:44not all of our audience so the
- 00:54:46difference is I started investing things
- 00:54:48at the age of 21 and I didn't even see a
- 00:54:51result until like 2010 so I went to
- 00:54:54India at the age of 21 and it took nine
- 00:54:57years for that to bear fruit 2010 is
- 00:55:00when I started medical school okay and
- 00:55:04then that in turn has led to the bearing
- 00:55:08of all kinds of other fruit / hey and so
- 00:55:15so give yourselves time and don't worry
- 00:55:17about moving out of the house and on
- 00:55:21other things like that just focus on
- 00:55:23building that compound interest set your
- 00:55:26future you up for good things through
- 00:55:28karma and if those things happen great
- 00:55:30if they don't happen don't worry about
- 00:55:31it just continue investing continue
- 00:55:34planting seeds continue planting seeds
- 00:55:36hype and then eventually stuff will
- 00:55:40start to grow okay so if you're thirty
- 00:55:44fine so be it I started med school at
- 00:55:46the age of twenty seven or something
- 00:55:48it's okay it's not the end of the world
- 00:55:50alright let's go ahead and who do we
- 00:55:53want to raid oh we want to raid you
- 00:55:58you're okay it looks like we're raiding
