The Simple Mindset That Makes You Attractive AF! Dr. Robert Glover

- 00:00:00a car that I love uh it's a a Mercedes a
- 00:00:042007 Mercedes ML63 AMG it's got the
- 00:00:09largest naturally aspirated V8 engine
- 00:00:12ever put in an SUV but this is a big
- 00:00:16rumbling V8 6.2 liter engine and on the
- 00:00:22top of the manifold in this vehicle is a
- 00:00:25plate and the man who built that engine
- 00:00:28signed it all right let me ask you what
- 00:00:30are you willing to sign off on in your
- 00:00:33life built by your name i'll take full
- 00:00:36accountability for that that's mastery
- 00:00:40that's when we can lay our head down at
- 00:00:42night and say "I can die complete."
- 00:00:46[Music]
- 00:00:50So aspiration 16 as of now reads I
- 00:00:54aspire to live a life of character and
- 00:00:57self-respect guided by a moral compass
- 00:01:00of my own
- 00:01:01creation
- 00:01:03now this this series of lessons you know
- 00:01:06it's turned out to be a three-part
- 00:01:08series sometimes the stuff I do kind of
- 00:01:10takes a life of its own has been
- 00:01:12challenging um I I I've often lived
- 00:01:16without self-respect and therefore I've
- 00:01:18let other people treat me without
- 00:01:20respect so this is this is personal that
- 00:01:23these lessons and I really started
- 00:01:25working on on the the lesson last week
- 00:01:28while I was in Austin Texas for a week
- 00:01:30really had a great week there got
- 00:01:32together some great men did some
- 00:01:34in-person interviews did a a peyote
- 00:01:37ceremony uh went to work on a new tattoo
- 00:01:40of a raven represent my father and um it
- 00:01:43was a great week and and also just
- 00:01:46putting together this lesson on
- 00:01:48self-respect and it was challenging for
- 00:01:50me i spent many walks long walks around
- 00:01:54East Austin that's a cool neighborhood i
- 00:01:56mean all the UT students are hanging out
- 00:01:58there all the food trucks and barbecue
- 00:02:01places and bars and it's a great great
- 00:02:03place to go walking and it was
- 00:02:06challenging for me because of the very
- 00:02:08fact that I haven't always lived with
- 00:02:11self-respect and as different pieces
- 00:02:13came to mind of what how this would fit
- 00:02:16how I would teach it I kind of got
- 00:02:18pulled in different directions and
- 00:02:20that's why I decided okay let's do it as
- 00:02:22three-parter so I I did one part uh on
- 00:02:27on that alpha call last week while I was
- 00:02:29in Austin around developing personal
- 00:02:33character and and this this is was a
- 00:02:37challenged lesson for me to write or to
- 00:02:40give mainly because I've never really
- 00:02:42liked that term character or personal
- 00:02:45character maybe because I don't like
- 00:02:47people telling me what to do or maybe I
- 00:02:49didn't have my own personal character or
- 00:02:52maybe the people preaching personal
- 00:02:54character I didn't personally look up to
- 00:02:56them as people I'd want to emulate and
- 00:03:00um what I realized was that maybe I was
- 00:03:02uncomfortable with the idea and term of
- 00:03:05living h with personal character is
- 00:03:07because I I I didn't and so we did
- 00:03:10something really cool if you haven't if
- 00:03:12you if you weren't on either of the two
- 00:03:14previous calls either Alpha last week
- 00:03:16Zeta earlier today go back and listen to
- 00:03:19the recordings i'm sure Henrik will have
- 00:03:21Zeta up within the next 24 hours or so
- 00:03:23but the alpha call is already up and
- 00:03:25what we did is if you've done any of my
- 00:03:28dating essentials for men work you know
- 00:03:30about the five and five where you create
- 00:03:32a list of of what your really great
- 00:03:34woman looks like so you know what you so
- 00:03:36you know what you're looking for and you
- 00:03:37know if you find a woman who has the
- 00:03:39potential but more importantly you rule
- 00:03:41out women who don't have the potential
- 00:03:44to be a really great match okay and the
- 00:03:46five and five just a piece of paper line
- 00:03:48down the middle left side is have to
- 00:03:50haves right side is won't tolerate and
- 00:03:52so for a woman to be a really great
- 00:03:55match to be a really great woman she has
- 00:03:57to have all the traits you have listed
- 00:04:00on that left side of the paper she has
- 00:04:02to be available you know loving
- 00:04:05passionate considerate giving generous
- 00:04:07what all whatever your traits are five's
- 00:04:10not magic it could be eight it could be
- 00:04:1212 but I find it's best if you do kind
- 00:04:14of hone it down to the really core
- 00:04:17basics of what you want i mean if blonde
- 00:04:19and big boobs is on have to have you
- 00:04:23know you're probably asking for more
- 00:04:25problems than actual you know resolution
- 00:04:28of problems and so have to have right
- 00:04:31side of the page is won't tolerate and
- 00:04:33sometimes that's just the flip side of
- 00:04:35have to have have to have
- 00:04:37honesty won't tolerate dishonesty but
- 00:04:40sometimes it's different so it gives you
- 00:04:42a different perspective so we took that
- 00:04:44that idea and and applied that to our
- 00:04:46own personal character if you are living
- 00:04:49with personal character what are the
- 00:04:52have to haves what does that look like
- 00:04:54and what are the won't tolerates won't
- 00:04:57accept what is outside of your personal
- 00:05:00character and and this personally was a
- 00:05:02pretty powerful exercise for me i did
- 00:05:04this in my journal probably came up with
- 00:05:06about 12 have to haves for me to be
- 00:05:09living in my personal character and 12
- 00:05:12won't tolerate if if if I if I land on
- 00:05:15any of those behaviors or any of those
- 00:05:18pieces there I'm out I'm out of
- 00:05:19character right i'm not living by my
- 00:05:22northstar so that was part one so so go
- 00:05:26go go check out that recording this
- 00:05:28morning on the Zeta call we got to part
- 00:05:30two and we talked about how we lose or
- 00:05:34give up our
- 00:05:36self-respect and I I said there's three
- 00:05:38primary ways we tend to lose or give up
- 00:05:40our self-respect one is pursuing
- 00:05:43pursuing outside of oursel from other
- 00:05:46people you know the respect of others
- 00:05:48the the approval of others the love of
- 00:05:50others you know the regard of others the
- 00:05:53likes of others we lose our integrity
- 00:05:56that way we lose our self-respect
- 00:05:58pursuing these things from other people
- 00:06:00basically projects the message I'm not
- 00:06:04enough you have what I
- 00:06:07want and then to stop pursuing is to
- 00:06:11claim I'm enough i'm complete i have
- 00:06:14what the world wants and the world has
- 00:06:17to earn it or respect me for what I've
- 00:06:21got so the pursuing the second one was
- 00:06:25tolerating anytime we tolerate a
- 00:06:28behavior we're going to end up with what
- 00:06:30we
- 00:06:31tolerated now this applies to both
- 00:06:34people and situations outside of us but
- 00:06:36to ourselves as well and in my message
- 00:06:39is we we don't let other people treat us
- 00:06:43bad but other people can't treat us with
- 00:06:45more respect than we treat ourselves so
- 00:06:47we better be treating oursel well don't
- 00:06:50tolerate your own
- 00:06:53disrespect your ruminations your
- 00:06:55criticism your negativity your
- 00:06:58comparisons your judgments that's all
- 00:07:00lacking personal
- 00:07:03self-respect and then the third way that
- 00:07:05we lose or give up our self-respect is
- 00:07:07through neglecting ourselves you
- 00:07:12know we invest in which we value we're
- 00:07:14going to talk more about that in this
- 00:07:16lesson if you invest in yourself it
- 00:07:19implies you're valuable you're worth
- 00:07:22something and so to live with
- 00:07:24self-respect we have to treat ourselves
- 00:07:26like we are someone we care about and
- 00:07:30that invites other people to do the
- 00:07:33same okay part three of the series i
- 00:07:37want to talk about hard work and and and
- 00:07:40and I've broken this down into three
- 00:07:43parts i'll get to those in just a minute
- 00:07:44i want to give you a couple quotes first
- 00:07:46one of them um I came across uh when I
- 00:07:49started working on the lesson is by
- 00:07:51George Bernard Shaw and he said "No man
- 00:07:54who is occupied in doing a very
- 00:07:57difficult thing and doing it very well
- 00:08:00ever loses his self-respect."
- 00:08:04Man that that that's a quote you could
- 00:08:05like get tattooed on your arm to remind
- 00:08:08you no man who is occupied in doing a
- 00:08:12very difficult thing and doing it very
- 00:08:14well mastery we're going to talk about
- 00:08:16that ever loses his
- 00:08:19self-respect another quote kind of
- 00:08:21looking at it from a different angle by
- 00:08:23David Gogggins by the way I started
- 00:08:25listening to David Gogggins audio book
- 00:08:27on some of my walks around Austin man
- 00:08:30that that that first chapter is just
- 00:08:32some gnarly i I I kind of had to
- 00:08:35take a break from it for a little bit
- 00:08:38this quote is doing mediocre work comes
- 00:08:41from a lack of
- 00:08:43self-respect when we mail it in when we
- 00:08:46do it halfway when we're less than
- 00:08:49masterful that is coming according to
- 00:08:51David Gogggins from a lack of our own
- 00:08:54personal
- 00:08:55self-respect all right we're going to
- 00:08:57pull those two quotes together in this
- 00:08:59lesson all right premise of part three
- 00:09:02of this lesson is that self-respect
- 00:09:05comes from hard work and I've broken
- 00:09:07this down into three parts self-respect
- 00:09:10comes from embracing challenge
- 00:09:12self-respect comes from not settling for
- 00:09:15less than
- 00:09:17mastery and three self-respect comes
- 00:09:20from investing in self okay let's take a
- 00:09:24look at number one self-respect comes
- 00:09:25from embracing challenge and maybe see
- 00:09:27if you can do this in two
- 00:09:29sentences one sentence what is the
- 00:09:32hardest thing you've ever done second
- 00:09:35sentence how did you feel about
- 00:09:38yourself once you got through it but I
- 00:09:40put completing No More Mr nice Guy that
- 00:09:43was challenging took a while and I I
- 00:09:47felt complete like yeah okay I I've I've
- 00:09:51completed what I'm here to do i've done
- 00:09:53much more since but I had a sense of of
- 00:09:56completeness about that by the way one
- 00:09:58of the reasons that pushed me to
- 00:09:59complete it my son and stepson were like
- 00:10:02about 14 and 15 they were teenagers
- 00:10:04while I was writing it and they kept
- 00:10:06saying "Pops when are you going to
- 00:10:07finish the book people need it we got
- 00:10:09friends that need your book Dad." And
- 00:10:11you know I wanted to be a good role
- 00:10:13model for my boys i wanted them to see
- 00:10:15me complete something of
- 00:10:17value it was challenging let me read
- 00:10:20some of these half marathon felts
- 00:10:23amazing after
- 00:10:24finishing got a complex drug device
- 00:10:28combination approved by the Food and
- 00:10:29Drug Administration he still feels
- 00:10:31awesome about it i wrote a novel to
- 00:10:34overcome my fear of failure i felt guilt
- 00:10:36giddy when I finished
- 00:10:38it making a film felt amazing chose to
- 00:10:42get divorced felt horrible at first but
- 00:10:45deep down I knew it was the right thing
- 00:10:46to do
- 00:10:48moving family to a a different state for
- 00:10:50a new job moving to the USA alone from
- 00:10:54Peru to study dentistry wow losing over
- 00:10:58a 100 pounds as a teenager i felt really
- 00:11:00good until I put some of it back
- 00:11:03graduated with electrical engineering
- 00:11:05degree felt proud and
- 00:11:08relieved moved out of my mom's free free
- 00:11:12at last free at last i love it okay i'm
- 00:11:16going to ask you to to to to kind of
- 00:11:18let's flip it for a minute when maybe
- 00:11:21recently when have you taken the easy
- 00:11:24way way out in the face of a challenge
- 00:11:27one one line what was the easy way out
- 00:11:29you took and how did you feel about
- 00:11:32yourself for
- 00:11:34that can you think of a way you took the
- 00:11:36easy way out and how did you feel we got
- 00:11:39to get we got to get real here not
- 00:11:42telling the truth
- 00:11:45shitty yeah I I'll second that one
- 00:11:49that's a way that I have a tendency to
- 00:11:51to skirt away from challenge and it
- 00:11:54feels shitty cheated on my wife to get
- 00:11:56my desires met
- 00:12:00horrible dating lowhanging fruits that's
- 00:12:03plural
- 00:12:05there how many fruits are we going to
- 00:12:07date capitulating to my ex-wife when I
- 00:12:10know she was wrong just a people pleaser
- 00:12:12felt awful chose porn instead of go out
- 00:12:15and learn how to talk to women felt like
- 00:12:17a piece of cheated on a test felt
- 00:12:20not qualified you guys are amazing you
- 00:12:23guys are amazing i The thing is
- 00:12:26I love you guys even more when I see
- 00:12:28your vulnerability that you'll post
- 00:12:30these things where where basically you
- 00:12:33cheated on you right we cheated on
- 00:12:35ourselves when we do the challenge when
- 00:12:39we when we lean into it when we embrace
- 00:12:42it when we follow through even when we
- 00:12:45welcome it we come out the other side
- 00:12:48with a sense of completeness wholeness
- 00:12:51fulfillment satisfaction happiness
- 00:12:54freedom and look every time we we backed
- 00:12:58down from challenge took an easy road
- 00:13:01took a secret road took a hidden road
- 00:13:03took took you know whatever road was the
- 00:13:06easiest path to take we feel like
- 00:13:10we feel like thank you guys
- 00:13:14for sharing both sides of that again I
- 00:13:16love your vulnerability i I mean really
- 00:13:19I'm not just saying that i love that so
- 00:13:22selfrespect is found through challenging
- 00:13:24ourselves and doing the challenging
- 00:13:26things there is no easy way have you
- 00:13:29ever noticed when I talk about great
- 00:13:30cake of a life there's a few things in
- 00:13:32there that are about challenge one is to
- 00:13:34lean into challenge that's when we're
- 00:13:36the happiest another is regular
- 00:13:38strenuous exercise that's not easy
- 00:13:41that's
- 00:13:42challenge we've got to challenge
- 00:13:44ourselves to be happy and be at our best
- 00:13:49the benefits of doing hard work and
- 00:13:51embracing challenge i mean there there's
- 00:13:53many you'll train yourself to enjoy the
- 00:13:56process of overcoming obstacles not just
- 00:13:58the outcome you'll stand out from the
- 00:14:01crowd think about that when you do the
- 00:14:04right thing when you lean into challenge
- 00:14:05you stand out and then maybe you have
- 00:14:08actually a greater respect and approval
- 00:14:11from people than you would get if you
- 00:14:13were chasing their respect and their
- 00:14:16approval and you know we'll be healthier
- 00:14:18more productive as as we meet challenges
- 00:14:22in our life we're just going to feel
- 00:14:23better about ourselves okay two
- 00:14:27selfrespect comes from not settling for
- 00:14:29less than mastery less than living
- 00:14:33masterfully another David Gogggins book
- 00:14:36until you start feeling a sense of pride
- 00:14:39and self-respect in the work you do no
- 00:14:41matter how small or overlooked those
- 00:14:43jobs might be you will continue to
- 00:14:46halfass your life so he's talking about
- 00:14:50taking pride and self-respect in the
- 00:14:52little things doing them well i've seen
- 00:14:55Jordan Peterson interviews about same
- 00:14:57thing you know talking to young people
- 00:14:59at your first job maybe it's just
- 00:15:01serving hamburgers in a fast food and he
- 00:15:03talks about how can you do that extra
- 00:15:06job clean the counters extra well be
- 00:15:08extra kind and respectful to the
- 00:15:10customers you know volunteer for more
- 00:15:12work with your manager how do you take
- 00:15:15that pride and do even if you're just
- 00:15:18flipping burgers how do you do it
- 00:15:20masterfully masterfully just means we're
- 00:15:22going to do everything to the best of
- 00:15:24our ability and you know when you start
- 00:15:26doing everything to the best of your
- 00:15:27ability you're suddenly the kind of
- 00:15:29person who does everything to the best
- 00:15:32of their ability and the masculine in us
- 00:15:36we've got all mas we've got masculine
- 00:15:38feminine energies the feminine is
- 00:15:40externally validated through praise
- 00:15:43value desire attention masculine is
- 00:15:47internally validated through masterful
- 00:15:50action going back to what we posted in
- 00:15:53the timeline when we performed masterful
- 00:15:57action even if we bumbled our way
- 00:15:59through it till we figured it out we
- 00:16:01felt good when we were less than
- 00:16:04masterful we felt shitty now mastery
- 00:16:07doesn't mean perfectionism doesn't mean
- 00:16:09you got to get things perfect because
- 00:16:11most of perfectionists I know don't ever
- 00:16:13get anything done because they're
- 00:16:15they're stressing so much about how
- 00:16:17they've got to do it perfectly we intern
- 00:16:20internally validate through masterful
- 00:16:22action and I I know everything I've done
- 00:16:24that originally scared me overwhelmed me
- 00:16:27or I had dread about when I developed
- 00:16:30okay bring it i'm going to learn how to
- 00:16:33do this whether it was shooting videos
- 00:16:35using my 4K cameras to shoot videos for
- 00:16:38my online classes I I had no
- 00:16:40idea even how you work the cameras i
- 00:16:42said I'm going to get masterful at it
- 00:16:45when it was deciding I was going to hire
- 00:16:46a nutrition coach and she told me I was
- 00:16:49going to get masterful by counting
- 00:16:51macros and calories in an app and I got
- 00:16:54good results when I got masterful at
- 00:16:57tracking my macros building integration
- 00:17:00nation I had you know few ideas of how
- 00:17:03to go about doing it I' I'd tried
- 00:17:05various things on a smaller scale but
- 00:17:08creating something like integration
- 00:17:10nation that was bigger than anything I'd
- 00:17:12ever attempted and my intention and it
- 00:17:15still is do it masterfully i may not do
- 00:17:18it
- 00:17:19perfectly but I'm going to do it
- 00:17:22masterfully as hell and I'm going to
- 00:17:23learn from every mistake every stumble
- 00:17:26every misstep every experiment that
- 00:17:29doesn't work out the way I thought
- 00:17:31that's how we get
- 00:17:33masterful i've got a car that I love uh
- 00:17:38it's a a Mercedes a 2007 Mercedes ML63
- 00:17:43AMG you guys probably have heard about
- 00:17:45my car it's parked up at my mom's house
- 00:17:47up in Seattle here's a cool thing about
- 00:17:49that car number one it's just
- 00:17:52fast it's got the largest naturally
- 00:17:54aspirated V8 engine ever put in an SUV
- 00:17:59right faster than a Porsche now now they
- 00:18:02put a lot of burbo stuff like that in in
- 00:18:04them but this is a big rumbling V8 6.2
- 00:18:09liter engine and it's just it's
- 00:18:13it's a beautiful ride now one thing
- 00:18:15that's really cool about AMG AMG is the
- 00:18:19specialty shop for Amazon for Mercedes
- 00:18:22what I'm saying and they're built in
- 00:18:24Germany amg is the first three initials
- 00:18:27of the three engineers that started the
- 00:18:29company so it's an engineering company
- 00:18:31and on the top of the manifold of this
- 00:18:35big old engine in this
- 00:18:37vehicle is a
- 00:18:39plate and the man who built that engine
- 00:18:43signed
- 00:18:44it signed
- 00:18:46it all right let me ask you what are you
- 00:18:49willing to sign off on in your
- 00:18:53life built by your name
- 00:18:58i would hope that everything we'd be
- 00:19:02willing to put our signature on and say
- 00:19:04"I'll take full accountability for
- 00:19:06that." That's mastery that's when we can
- 00:19:09lay our head down at night and say "I
- 00:19:12can die complete i did my best i'm still
- 00:19:16learning but I brought my
- 00:19:18agame." That feels good that feels I I
- 00:19:22still open the hood just to look at that
- 00:19:23signature sometimes i wonder who that
- 00:19:25guy is you can watch a video on YouTube
- 00:19:28i watched it where they will show from
- 00:19:31start to finish a guy in the AMG factory
- 00:19:35in Germany building an entire engine to
- 00:19:38go in a
- 00:19:40Mercedes it's it's kind of cool thing to
- 00:19:42watch mastery just watching how it's
- 00:19:45done
- 00:19:46masterfully all right number three for
- 00:19:50self-respect is investing in self at its
- 00:19:54core self-respect is
- 00:19:57self-care like I said before we invest
- 00:20:00in that which we value if you value your
- 00:20:04partner you're going to invest your time
- 00:20:05and energy and attention if you value
- 00:20:08you you're going to invest your time
- 00:20:10attention energy and your money maybe
- 00:20:13it's trimming your
- 00:20:15fingernails shaving and bathing i shaved
- 00:20:18and trimmed my beard and took a bath
- 00:20:19just before I got on this call you
- 00:20:21wouldn't know but I know i brushed my
- 00:20:23teeth too taking care of your clothing
- 00:20:27getting sleep exercise nutrition rest
- 00:20:30and
- 00:20:32relaxation investing in yourself implies
- 00:20:36you're worth
- 00:20:38something that's self-respect so I'm
- 00:20:40going to give you guys a challenge now
- 00:20:43one thing I know about nice guys we're
- 00:20:45notoriously cheap and we're especially
- 00:20:49cheap with ourselves because we don't
- 00:20:50value ourselves our needs our wants well
- 00:20:53I mean we'll spend money on other people
- 00:20:55we'll buy gifts for other people we'll
- 00:20:57invest our time in other people but in
- 00:21:00us when when when I split with my second
- 00:21:03wife one of the things I did with my
- 00:21:05book advance for No More Mr nice Guy is
- 00:21:08I went out and bought a 2001 it's
- 00:21:112-year-old uh BMW
- 00:21:14um CI 330 it's a 3 liter engine in a
- 00:21:18small twodoor coupe BMW fast fun car i I
- 00:21:24got depressed when I bought it i didn't
- 00:21:25leave my house for two weeks i was so
- 00:21:28depressed i would have happily bought
- 00:21:30that car for my ex-wife to make her
- 00:21:32happy but when I bought it for myself I
- 00:21:35was filled with fear and dread and I'm
- 00:21:38not good enough and who am I and and and
- 00:21:41what am I going to get for this and
- 00:21:43actually buying that
- 00:21:45BMW was actually the beginning of a
- 00:21:49transformation in my life where I began
- 00:21:51taking good care of myself and investing
- 00:21:54in me i thought "Oh when my ex finds out
- 00:21:56I bought a BMW she's going to go
- 00:21:58ballistic." Or when my clients see me
- 00:22:00driving a BMW they're going to say "Oh
- 00:22:03you must be charging too much if you're
- 00:22:05driving a BM you're driving a Beamer."
- 00:22:07My ex never said a word and all my
- 00:22:10clients said "Hey cool car
- 00:22:13not one of them went off on me it it it
- 00:22:16felt good so my challenge where can you
- 00:22:19invest some money in yourself put some
- 00:22:21skin in the game getting a personal
- 00:22:23trainer a nutrition coach like I did
- 00:22:26recently that has paid off investing in
- 00:22:29a men's program i'm glad you guys are
- 00:22:31here getting therapy that's not cheap
- 00:22:34i've spent a hundred grand on therapy in
- 00:22:36my
- 00:22:37lifetime one of the reasons I'm sitting
- 00:22:39here talking to you right now is I made
- 00:22:40that investment i mean get a manicure
- 00:22:43get a good haircut get your clothes
- 00:22:46professionally laundered and pressed
- 00:22:48hire a house cleaner take a good
- 00:22:50vacation by yourself do a Tony Robbins
- 00:22:53seminar go to the dentist the
- 00:22:55chiropractor massage therapist a doctor
- 00:22:57for a physical invest some money in
- 00:23:00yourself in the new near future make a
- 00:23:03commitment it may make you anxious
- 00:23:06because we're not used to that kind of
- 00:23:08thing but it implies you're worth
- 00:23:10something you respect yourself you're
- 00:23:13valuable when you invest in yourself it
- 00:23:16shows up as competence and self-respect
- 00:23:18and the more you invest in yourself I
- 00:23:21promise you the more it will pay for
- 00:23:23itself anything you invest in self-care
- 00:23:26and self-improvement and self-
- 00:23:28advancement it will pay for itself i
- 00:23:31promise you and you'll go "Wow where did
- 00:23:34this extra money come from i've been
- 00:23:36spending money." You know every time
- 00:23:37I've hired a new employee it paid for
- 00:23:39itself every time I got a coach it paid
- 00:23:41for itself every time I got a new
- 00:23:43accountant financial advisor it I had
- 00:23:46more money funny how that works
- 00:23:49investment pays
- 00:23:52off with more money to invest
- 00:23:56and investing in yourself with your
- 00:23:58pocketbook with your credit card
- 00:24:01challenges your self-limiting beliefs
- 00:24:03that you are not worth anything so to
- 00:24:06wrap up aspiration
- 00:24:0916 I aspire to live a life of character
- 00:24:12and self-respect guided by a moral
- 00:24:14compass of my own creation now a way to
- 00:24:17sum it up you probably have heard me say
- 00:24:19oftentimes nothing hidden nothing
- 00:24:21half-assed well I've added third nothing
- 00:24:24hidden nothing hurtful nothing half-ass
- 00:24:27that is
- 00:24:29self-respect i'm not hiding anything i'm
- 00:24:32living with character i'm not letting me
- 00:24:34or anybody else hurt me that's
- 00:24:37self-respect and I'm not doing anything
- 00:24:40halfass that's leaning into challenge
- 00:24:42and living masterfully perfectionism is
- 00:24:45the enemy of good
- 00:24:47enough and and if you think about that
- 00:24:49it is i got to get it perfect so we
- 00:24:51never get it done or maybe we
- 00:24:53procrastinate or we don't follow through
- 00:24:56and so when I say mastery is not
- 00:24:58perfectionism it's not like I got to be
- 00:25:00perfect it's just like to me it's more
- 00:25:03of an attitude that I welcome a
- 00:25:06challenge i welcome a challenge and that
- 00:25:08I will respond with a a progress
- 00:25:13progression of of of masterful actions
- 00:25:17for example I I do have an intention and
- 00:25:20it's in my two-year letter to myself of
- 00:25:22learning to play the TW uh play the 12
- 00:25:25bar blues both rhythm and lead now we'll
- 00:25:29ever play that you know like like BB
- 00:25:32King or or
- 00:25:34um Oh my mind's going blank um Gary
- 00:25:38Clark Jr
- 00:25:40uh you know John Mayer no I I I'm never
- 00:25:42going to play like those guys i mean I
- 00:25:44mean they're amazing they're amazing but
- 00:25:46if I have the attitude that I'm going to
- 00:25:49get proficient I'm going to get
- 00:25:51masterful at playing a riff right one
- 00:25:55riff one one progression of chords you
- 00:25:59know just it's an attitude almost more
- 00:26:02than anything else that says you know
- 00:26:04all right I'm I'm going to bring my best
- 00:26:06to it and I'm going to play it and get
- 00:26:08good at it and be proud of myself for it
- 00:26:11will anybody ever want to hear me play
- 00:26:13it doesn't matter so I I I don't think I
- 00:26:16don't know whether you need to break it
- 00:26:17down into tone too too many finite words
- 00:26:20but yeah I I think proficiency mastery
- 00:26:23think of it as an attitude not even so
- 00:26:26much an end result and and and so when
- 00:26:29you're struggling with that chord or
- 00:26:30struggling to get your fingers over to
- 00:26:32that seventh or whatever it is go okay
- 00:26:35I'm I'm I'm going to keep doing it until
- 00:26:38I master it right and it's just an
- 00:26:40attitude you and I are having this
- 00:26:42conversation today we're on this call
- 00:26:45today you read my book because I cheated
- 00:26:49that's how it all started actually I
- 00:26:51cheated more than once before it all
- 00:26:54started i I cheated and it ended my
- 00:26:56first marriage i married the woman I
- 00:26:58cheated with and then I cheated on her
- 00:27:00about two three years in the marriage
- 00:27:02because I wasn't getting my needs met
- 00:27:03and I was a nice guy and I didn't know
- 00:27:04how to be direct and I didn't know how
- 00:27:06to be a good enter and uh she I I it was
- 00:27:09short-lived she found out confronted me
- 00:27:12said "You're not a nice guy everybody
- 00:27:13thinks you're a nice guy you know you
- 00:27:15need to get help." And I thought "You're
- 00:27:16the ones unhappy all the time." But I
- 00:27:18went and got help and I landed in good
- 00:27:20places and I did my work and I've been
- 00:27:23doing my work for the last 30 plus years
- 00:27:26since that happened and because of that
- 00:27:29event it was the big stick that woke me
- 00:27:32up got my attention got me on a
- 00:27:34different path and because of that you
- 00:27:37get to tell me tonight that you cheated
- 00:27:40because if I hadn't gone down that path
- 00:27:42we wouldn't be talking right now so I I
- 00:27:44put that in a context that that okay
- 00:27:47welcome to the club of of okay you
- 00:27:50up you up and um and you
- 00:27:53got a lot of work to do and sometimes
- 00:27:56it's those fuckups that get our
- 00:27:59attention and and and change our
- 00:28:01direction and help us pivot into
- 00:28:04actually
- 00:28:05just living on better terms and living a
- 00:28:08more fulfilled life with with more
- 00:28:10character and a greater uh roadmap to
- 00:28:12lead us where we want to go it sound
- 00:28:14like it helped you find perhaps my book
- 00:28:16or my material or or this place maybe
- 00:28:18some interviews of me so that
- 00:28:21is your open door to you becoming
- 00:28:25the man that you're here to be so
- 00:28:28welcome welcome to the club of a bunch
- 00:28:30of fuckups we all have our different
- 00:28:32kind of fuckups but if we can be open
- 00:28:34and vulnerable with each other we can
- 00:28:36support each other to level up to the
- 00:28:38best version of ourselves so I don't
- 00:28:41have really any other advice for you
- 00:28:42right now than get connected with men
- 00:28:46that is the best way to get your
- 00:28:48fundamental needs met when I was a
- 00:28:49marriage therapist I told couples all
- 00:28:51the time the best thing you do for your
- 00:28:53marriage is create good same-sex
- 00:28:56relationships so I'd say let go of
- 00:29:00trying to save your marriage save you
- 00:29:03and get connected with men learn to be
- 00:29:05authentic honest transparent conscious
- 00:29:08set the tone for your life invest in you
- 00:29:12and if those are the things that make
- 00:29:14your wife more attracted to you and make
- 00:29:16her want to be a better person great if
- 00:29:19it actually be becomes a bigger division
- 00:29:21between you because you're taking good
- 00:29:22care of you great let go of the
- 00:29:25attachment and and start charting a path
- 00:29:28that leads you to being the best version
- 00:29:30of you and we're here cheering for you
