so apparently j z is failing College
  • 00:00:02
they don't know how to read they don't
  • 00:00:04
know how to write and ultimately they're
  • 00:00:05
    entering the workforce under prepared
  • 00:00:08
despite spending all that time and money
  • 00:00:11
in college training for that said
  • 00:00:13
    profession unfortunately many professors
  • 00:00:16
across the country are quitting in
  • 00:00:18
droves this has been going on for the
  • 00:00:20
past few years many professors are
  • 00:00:22
saying that they simply just can't teach
  • 00:00:24
these kids anymore it's become way too
  • 00:00:27
difficult as many of these genz students
  • 00:00:30
are not showing up to class prepared
  • 00:00:32
they don't want to learn and they're
  • 00:00:33
using things like AI chat GPT to
  • 00:00:37
basically do all their homework and
  • 00:00:39
essays for them teaching them has become
  • 00:00:41
a huge burden which we'll uncover in
  • 00:00:43
this video now over the course of the
  • 00:00:45
year on this channel we've talked about
  • 00:00:47
just how education here in the United
  • 00:00:49
States seems to have taken a huge step
  • 00:00:52
backward and it seems like it's only
  • 00:00:54
    getting worse especially with stories
  • 00:00:56
like this and huge trends like this one
  • 00:00:59
that we're seeing where gen Z is not
  • 00:01:01
really doing too well they're not doing
  • 00:01:03
too hot in college one of the huge
  • 00:01:06
driving forces that we can point the
  • 00:01:08
finger at here is students are
  • 00:01:10
increasingly using things like chat GPT
  • 00:01:13
to basically do all their homework and
  • 00:01:15
essays for them why are you doing this
  • 00:01:18
we're still going to know these college
  • 00:01:19
    professors say students are increasingly
  • 00:01:22
cutting and pasting AI generated text in
  • 00:01:24
their essays and that is cheating these
  • 00:01:27
professors say they're not falling for
  • 00:01:29
it and there're often three extremely
  • 00:01:31
obvious giveaways number one the essay
  • 00:01:34
is suspiciously perfect a chaty PT
  • 00:01:37
generated essay looks like it was
  • 00:01:39
written by a very competent 12th grader
  • 00:01:41
AI generated text has no mistakes it's
  • 00:01:44
like robotically Bland text I remember
  • 00:01:47
taking my master courses a few years ago
  • 00:01:50
when chat GPT came out it was like the
  • 00:01:52
last semester of my Master's Degree and
  • 00:01:55
I noticed that a lot of students didn't
  • 00:01:57
really know what this Chad GPT was was
  • 00:02:00
but towards the end of the year so many
  • 00:02:03
people were using it and after I
  • 00:02:05
graduated I quickly learned that a lot
  • 00:02:08
of the students that I went to school
  • 00:02:09
with that were a few years younger they
  • 00:02:11
were using it in droves everyone was
  • 00:02:14
using this brand new chat GPT people
  • 00:02:17
were using it in high school and people
  • 00:02:19
were using it in college and when you go
  • 00:02:21
to college you you basically go there to
  • 00:02:24
buy a degree right you buy an education
  • 00:02:27
but you're having this random AI do all
  • 00:02:30
the work for you I mean in my opinion it
  • 00:02:32
really doesn't make too much sense you
  • 00:02:33
spent all that money you're just going
  • 00:02:35
to put all this into this AI algorithm
  • 00:02:38
uh mind you a lot of this AI stuff
  • 00:02:41
really isn't the best it's going to give
  • 00:02:43
you a lot of really bad information and
  • 00:02:46
    college professors can definitely pick
  • 00:02:48
up on that Chad gbt has gotten a lot
  • 00:02:51
Dumber over the past couple months a
  • 00:02:53
research study from Stanford just came
  • 00:02:54
out comparing GPT 4 and 3.5 answer
  • 00:02:57
quality over the past several months and
  • 00:03:00
the results are absolutely damning back
  • 00:03:02
in March of 2023 gp4 was significantly
  • 00:03:05
better at solving math problems and also
  • 00:03:07
code generation it is much less likely
  • 00:03:10
to answer sensitive questions and its
  • 00:03:12
visual reasoning has also dropped we've
  • 00:03:14
seen countless news stories saying that
  • 00:03:16
AI like Chad GPT can actually pass a bar
  • 00:03:20
exam it can pass many of these difficult
  • 00:03:23
exams in college but professors have
  • 00:03:26
known about this for a while now
  • 00:03:28
basically when it came out now they're
  • 00:03:30
using other AI algorithms to catch their
  • 00:03:33
students cheating and this has been
  • 00:03:35
going on for the past few years this is
  • 00:03:37
happening all the time now if the word
  • 00:03:40
moreover shows up in your paper there is
  • 00:03:43
a 99% chance that AI has written it I've
  • 00:03:46
never heard a 20-year-old use the word
  • 00:03:48
moreover in their life but I've seen the
  • 00:03:52
word moreover show up in a bunch of
  • 00:03:54
submissions this semester look when I
  • 00:03:57
was in school and Chad gbt really wasn't
  • 00:03:59
a thing to cheat it took a lot of effort
  • 00:04:03
it took a lot of effort from the
  • 00:04:04
students that did it and there wasn't a
  • 00:04:06
really easy tool like there was now with
  • 00:04:09
Chad GPT now every student can do it
  • 00:04:11
every student can basically make their
  • 00:04:13
own essay if we take a look at a lot of
  • 00:04:15
these comments people basically are like
  • 00:04:18
yeah I use chat GPT all the time or oh
  • 00:04:20
just change a few words and you'll
  • 00:04:22
basically outsmart your teacher and I
  • 00:04:25
    think that's happening a lot that's
  • 00:04:26
happening a lot in our country and high
  • 00:04:29
school and in the college levels they're
  • 00:04:32
taking advantage of this tool because
  • 00:04:34
it's easy it's an easy way to get
  • 00:04:37
    probably a b or c and like anyone that's
  • 00:04:39
gone to college you know the struggle of
  • 00:04:42
staying up past midnight to finish that
  • 00:04:44
essay that's due the next day it takes
  • 00:04:46
you hours sometimes it can take you like
  • 00:04:49
12 10 hours just to write one essay
  • 00:04:52
sometimes even longer if it's one of
  • 00:04:54
    those really important like midterm
  • 00:04:56
exams or final exams but you have this
  • 00:04:59
tool like chat GPT that can
  • 00:05:02
basically make you an essay in maybe
  • 00:05:05
like an hour you can basically change a
  • 00:05:07
few words and Bam there you go there's
  • 00:05:09
an essay but when you write an essay you
  • 00:05:11
have to do basically all the boring
  • 00:05:13
stuff you have to do all the research
  • 00:05:15
that takes time which is you know
  • 00:05:18
    unfortunately part of the college
  • 00:05:19
experience but it's kind of like one of
  • 00:05:22
those things like working out it's only
  • 00:05:24
going to make you better because you're
  • 00:05:26
learning all this information by reading
  • 00:05:28
that kind of brings us to the this point
  • 00:05:30
that a lot of these college students
  • 00:05:32
don't really know how to read or write
  • 00:05:35
the elite college students who can't
  • 00:05:37
read books that's the title of an
  • 00:05:39
article in the Atlantic magazine has got
  • 00:05:41
people talking for about a week now it
  • 00:05:43
interviews 33 professors at the very
  • 00:05:45
best universities in the whole country
  • 00:05:47
and every single one of them across
  • 00:05:49
    categories of literature and subject
  • 00:05:51
matter say the best students in America
  • 00:05:54
find it impossible to finish a book
  • 00:05:56
struggle to encounter and make it
  • 00:05:57
through new ideas lose their their their
  • 00:06:00
ability to follow the big argument while
  • 00:06:02
getting the small details and just
  • 00:06:04
bottom line are showing up in office
  • 00:06:05
hours and saying huh I do this wow and
  • 00:06:08
if they're using AI tools like chat GPT
  • 00:06:11
or other tools that are constantly being
  • 00:06:14
uh advertised to them they're not really
  • 00:06:16
going to pick up on those writing skills
  • 00:06:19
and they're not going to be able to read
  • 00:06:20
at that college level I think one of
  • 00:06:23
these like important points that a lot
  • 00:06:25
of people have been discussing is would
  • 00:06:27
you want like your doctor your nurse or
  • 00:06:29
your like dentists to have basically
  • 00:06:32
passed all their uh college courses by
  • 00:06:36
using chat GPT and these are the people
  • 00:06:39
that are going to be like our doctors
  • 00:06:40
pretty soon you know in the next 5 10 15
  • 00:06:43
years A lot of them had just you know
  • 00:06:46
gone by using all these AI tools it's
  • 00:06:49
kind of a scary thought to think about
  • 00:06:51
you're you might have a lot of these
  • 00:06:52
    underqualified people entering these
  • 00:06:55
    highly skilled professions because they
  • 00:06:57
really know how to use these AI
  • 00:07:00
algorithms uh that's one of the main
  • 00:07:02
worries here with uh I guess academics
  • 00:07:04
or people in Academia is that they're
  • 00:07:06
going to be passing a lot of these
  • 00:07:08
    students that ultimately don't really
  • 00:07:11
possess the skills to pass that said uh
  • 00:07:13
    degree coursework a university English
  • 00:07:16
Professor is terrified by the sharp
  • 00:07:18
decline she's seeing among her students
  • 00:07:19
and she says it's the worst she's ever
  • 00:07:21
encountered there's been a lot of talk
  • 00:07:23
recently about what seems to be a pretty
  • 00:07:25
    shocking literacy crisis among America's
  • 00:07:27
kids but it's definitely not just the
  • 00:07:28
    youngsters this University professor
  • 00:07:30
says she's alarmed by how many of her
  • 00:07:32
students don't read and write terrible
  • 00:07:35
essays and then are completely unable to
  • 00:07:37
understand why they get bad grades and
  • 00:07:38
this brings us to our next Point College
  • 00:07:41
professors are quitting in big numbers
  • 00:07:43
this is a very similar Trend to a topic
  • 00:07:46
in a video that we covered a few months
  • 00:07:48
ago in which a lot of teachers in in the
  • 00:07:51
United States were quitting because of
  • 00:07:54
gen Alpha now this time gen Z they're
  • 00:07:56
the ones that are making a lot of these
  • 00:07:58
    college professors quit
  • 00:08:00
like things that we've talked about in
  • 00:08:01
this video chat GPT being a very easy
  • 00:08:04
tool to use basically takes all the fun
  • 00:08:07
and all the learning out of a lot of
  • 00:08:09
    these students repertoire and professors
  • 00:08:12
are just fed up they don't want to deal
  • 00:08:14
with this you know they went through all
  • 00:08:17
that coursework way back in the day uh
  • 00:08:19
they got their phds most of them it took
  • 00:08:22
them uh years hundreds of hours to get
  • 00:08:25
there and and they're seeing these
  • 00:08:27
students just swing on by just using
  • 00:08:29
these AI tools and there's nothing that
  • 00:08:31
they can really do about it a lot of
  • 00:08:33
times they can only catch so many of
  • 00:08:36
these students using the tools but if
  • 00:08:38
you go to places like Reddit you can see
  • 00:08:40
people uh making a snapshot on the
  • 00:08:43
    current situation basically saying that
  • 00:08:45
everyone is using these AI tools people
  • 00:08:48
are basically taking advantage of them
  • 00:08:50
because it's easy and unfortunately this
  • 00:08:53
is only going to get worse those gen
  • 00:08:56
alpha kids that we talked about in that
  • 00:08:58
one video well eventually they're also
  • 00:09:00
going to go to college soon and this is
  • 00:09:03
only going to make more professors Fed
  • 00:09:05
Up and unable to basically do their job
  • 00:09:08
and teach what they were trained to do
  • 00:09:10
for decades I think it's a really sad
  • 00:09:13
sight you know these have these college
  • 00:09:16
professors that uh you know put so many
  • 00:09:19
hours into their their work into their
  • 00:09:22
craft and you have these students going
  • 00:09:25
into their classes a lot of them you
  • 00:09:27
know paying thousands of dollars to be
  • 00:09:29
there just to use these AI algorithms or
  • 00:09:32
not really pay attention not really want
  • 00:09:35
to put in the work there um it's really
  • 00:09:37
troubling if we take a look at some
  • 00:09:39
interesting data here from grammarly and
  • 00:09:41
if we know what grammarly is it's
  • 00:09:43
basically an app that uh improves your
  • 00:09:46
    grammar and overall structure of
  • 00:09:48
whatever you're writing it could be an
  • 00:09:50
essay it could be a paper whatever it
  • 00:09:51
may be but they found out that from 2018
  • 00:09:56
    to
  • 00:09:57
2023 students have actually uh gotten
  • 00:10:01
worse at grammar the grammar error rate
  • 00:10:04
has uh increased 15% in just about five
  • 00:10:08
years that's insane you know was it
  • 00:10:11
covid was it the pandemic that really um
  • 00:10:14
exacerbated a lot of these uh issues in
  • 00:10:18
education I would probably say yes I
  • 00:10:21
think it had a huge role to play you
  • 00:10:23
basically had every student across the
  • 00:10:25
world and Country have an an off year a
  • 00:10:29
year of Education in which they really
  • 00:10:31
didn't learn too much because of all the
  • 00:10:34
craziness that was going on and in some
  • 00:10:36
places it was up to two years so we that
  • 00:10:39
had that entire environment that entire
  • 00:10:42
remote environment in education and it
  • 00:10:45
definitely had a huge impact on uh the
  • 00:10:48
way that these students were able to
  • 00:10:50
learn um when the pandemic happened I
  • 00:10:52
believe I was actually a sophomore or or
  • 00:10:55
Junior in college um and I would say it
  • 00:10:58
really did affect college students too
  • 00:11:00
much because you kind of already did
  • 00:11:03
have like remote and online courses in
  • 00:11:06
place uh it didn't really do too much to
  • 00:11:08
our like education uh psyche but
  • 00:11:12
definitely it had a huge impact on a lot
  • 00:11:14
of these students that were in high
  • 00:11:16
school and middle school and Elementary
  • 00:11:18
School you basically wipe out an entire
  • 00:11:20
year or two of Education you're going to
  • 00:11:23
be pretty certain that you're going to
  • 00:11:24
have some damaging effects in the long

run and that grammarly study definitely
  • 00:11:30
    suggest that and another interesting
  • 00:11:33
study for you here according to the
  • 00:11:35
    National assessment of Education
  • 00:11:37
progress from the year 2012 to 2022 the
  • 00:11:41
rate of students entering college and
  • 00:11:43
    having a adequate reading proficiency
  • 00:11:46
    level dropped from 40% to
  • 00:11:49
    31% that's a huge drop in just 10 years
  • 00:11:53
I would beg to differ that this is
  • 00:11:54
probably only going to get worse as all
  • 00:11:57
these gen Alpha trends that we're seeing
  • 00:11:59
are going to transpire I think another
  • 00:12:02
interesting thing that we're seeing with
  • 00:12:03
AI is that it's taking a lot of the
  • 00:12:06
creativity out of creative roles like
  • 00:12:08
video editors or graphic designers with
  • 00:12:11
tools like canva or capcut Pro a lot of
  • 00:12:14
people a lot of students are able to
  • 00:12:17
make a lot of their work just using AI
  • 00:12:19
they're using AI for Powerpoints and
  • 00:12:22
presentations as what as well which is
  • 00:12:24
good but at the same time it takes sort
  • 00:12:27
of a creative mindset to be able to do
  • 00:12:30
that overall this is a very interesting
  • 00:12:32
situation genz not being able to do well
  • 00:12:36
in school it's something that a lot of
  • 00:12:38
people shouldn't be too surprised about
  • 00:12:41
with the invention of social media with
  • 00:12:43
the introduction of AI and overall a
  • 00:12:46
    generation that really doesn't value
  • 00:12:49
college as much at least the academics
  • 00:12:52
of it as previous generations I think
  • 00:12:55
it's kind of troubling because college
  • 00:12:58
is a good thing it provides a lot of
  • 00:13:00
expertise and a lot of knowledge and
  • 00:13:03
training for those people that are going
  • 00:13:05
to take on those really high skilled
  • 00:13:08
professions in the future and if we
  • 00:13:09
don't have those people in the future
  • 00:13:12
then we're in for a world of hurt in
  • 00:13:15
total I want to know what you guys think
  • 00:13:17
about this entire situation do you think
  • 00:13:19
this is blown out of proportion and jenz
  • 00:13:21
is actually doing well in college or do
  • 00:13:24
you think that we're seeing a huge uh
  • 00:13:26
negative effect on education here and
  • 00:13:28
    it's definitely having some huge
  • 00:13:30
ramifications for Gen Z and the college
  • 00:13:33
experience and and unfortunately a lot
  • 00:13:36
of professions for years to come and
  • 00:13:39
like always be sure to hit that like
  • 00:13:40
button hit that subscribe button it
  • 00:13:42
really helps us out and it helps grow
  • 00:13:44
the channel and like always we'll be
  • 00:13:46
back with another video thanks so much
  • 00:13:48
    for the support
