Chronologie
- 00:00:00 - 00:05:00
In Mark 7:24-30, Jesus travels to the region of Tyre and Sidon, seeking solitude but is approached by a desperate Gentile woman whose daughter is possessed by a demon. She humbly begs Jesus for help, demonstrating her faith and desperation. Despite her pleas, Jesus initially responds with silence, which raises questions about his intentions and the nature of faith in times of apparent rejection.
- 00:05:00 - 00:10:00
The woman is identified as a Syrophoenician, a Gentile, which adds complexity to her request for help from a Jewish teacher. The historical context reveals that the Jews often viewed Gentiles with disdain, yet this woman approaches Jesus with humility and persistence, begging for mercy for her daughter. Her background highlights the cultural tensions present in the narrative.
- 00:10:00 - 00:15:00
Jesus' response to the woman is challenging; he states that it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs, referring to the Jews as the children and Gentiles as dogs. This statement is shocking and seems dismissive, yet the woman responds with remarkable faith, acknowledging her unworthiness but asserting that even dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table, indicating her belief in Jesus' power to heal.
- 00:15:00 - 00:20:00
The woman's reply impresses Jesus, who acknowledges her faith and grants her request, stating that the demon has left her daughter. This moment illustrates the power of faith and humility, as the woman does not take offense at Jesus' words but instead uses them to express her understanding of his authority and mercy. Her persistence pays off, and she returns home to find her daughter healed.
- 00:20:00 - 00:25:00
The narrative shifts as Jesus returns to the Decapolis region, where he had previously healed a man possessed by demons. This time, the people welcome him and bring a deaf man with a speech impediment to be healed. Jesus takes the man aside privately, demonstrating a personal and intimate approach to healing, which contrasts with the earlier public rejection he faced in the same area.
- 00:25:00 - 00:30:00
Jesus performs a unique healing by putting his fingers in the man's ears and touching his tongue, followed by a command for the man's ears to be opened. This method emphasizes the personal nature of the healing and the power of Jesus' words. The man is healed, and he begins to speak plainly, showcasing the transformative power of Jesus' intervention in people's lives.
- 00:30:00 - 00:35:00
The crowd's reaction to the healing is one of astonishment, and they proclaim that Jesus does all things well. This marks a significant change in their attitude compared to their previous rejection of him. The narrative highlights the importance of faith, humility, and the recognition of Jesus' authority, as well as the transformative impact he has on individuals and communities.
- 00:35:00 - 00:40:00
The passage concludes with a reflection on the nature of faith in the face of silence and apparent rejection from God. The speaker emphasizes the importance of maintaining humility and perseverance in prayer, drawing parallels between the Syrophoenician woman's faith and the struggles believers face when God seems silent or unresponsive.
- 00:40:00 - 00:46:36
Ultimately, the message encourages believers to trust in God's goodness and perfect plan, even when circumstances are difficult or confusing. The speaker urges listeners to cultivate a personal relationship with God, emphasizing that true faith persists in the face of challenges and that God is always working for the good of those who love him.

- 00:00:00verse 24 of Mark chapter 7 goes like
- 00:00:02this and from there he arose and went
- 00:00:04away to the region of Ty and siden and
- 00:00:07he entered a house and did not want
- 00:00:09anyone to know yet he could not be
- 00:00:11hidden but immediately a woman whose
- 00:00:14little daughter had an unclean Spirit
- 00:00:16heard of him and came and fell down at
- 00:00:18his feet now the woman was a gentile a
- 00:00:21syrop phenician by birth and she begged
- 00:00:24him to cast The Demon out of her
- 00:00:28daughter and he said to her let the
- 00:00:30children be fed first for it is not
- 00:00:33right to take the children's bread and
- 00:00:35throw it to the dogs but she answered
- 00:00:37him yes Lord yet even the dogs under the
- 00:00:40table eat the children's crumbs and he
- 00:00:42said to her for this statement you may
- 00:00:45go your way the demon has left your
- 00:00:48daughter and she went home and found the
- 00:00:50child lying in bed and the demon gone
- 00:00:52let's stop there for right now let's
- 00:00:54pray heavenly father as always we come
- 00:00:57before you with a humble attitude at
- 00:01:00asking you to speak to us through the
- 00:01:01scriptures and to make them alive to our
- 00:01:04hearts we understand Lord that this
- 00:01:06comes through a work of your Holy Spirit
- 00:01:08but it also is activated by faith and by
- 00:01:11the humility of our hearts that are
- 00:01:13willing to be taught so we pray father
- 00:01:16God that our hearts would be receptive
- 00:01:18today and that you would speak to us
- 00:01:20from the depth of your understanding
- 00:01:22that we might grow in the grace and
- 00:01:25knowledge of who you are and Lord most
- 00:01:27of all that we might put into practice
- 00:01:29ice the things that we learn in your
- 00:01:32word and we ask all these things in the
- 00:01:36name of
- 00:01:37Jesus
- 00:01:38Amen um this last section of Mark
- 00:01:43chapter 7 uh is basically two just kind
- 00:01:46of small stories we read the first one
- 00:01:48here um we're we're told here that Jesus
- 00:01:53went outside of Israel to a place uh
- 00:01:58which is referred to as Phoenicia we
- 00:02:01would call it Lebanon today and it has
- 00:02:04two main port cities of Ty and siden and
- 00:02:10um actually you know we covered this
- 00:02:13story back when we did our study through
- 00:02:16the gospel of Matthew but since that was
- 00:02:17about three and a half years ago I think
- 00:02:19we can probably uh it's safe to go
- 00:02:22through and and look at this uh again
- 00:02:25but you can tell from the text and we
- 00:02:29know from previous chapters that Jesus
- 00:02:31had been trying for some time to get
- 00:02:33away with his disciples and he had been
- 00:02:35thwarted every time he would say to his
- 00:02:37guys you know what we just need to get
- 00:02:39away and and just hang out and rest for
- 00:02:41a while because we were told they didn't
- 00:02:42even get time to eat most of the time
- 00:02:45and so it seems like and we're not told
- 00:02:48the specifics but it seems like Jesus
- 00:02:50kind of made the decision to go to
- 00:02:53Phoenicia figuring probably wouldn't get
- 00:02:56the big crowds you know because this is
- 00:02:58not a Jewish era area uh Phoenicia was
- 00:03:01an area that was frankly filled full of
- 00:03:05Gentiles and
- 00:03:07pagans
- 00:03:09and yeah you know it wasn't the kind of
- 00:03:12place you would expect there to be a big
- 00:03:14uh group of people that were just
- 00:03:16waiting for Jesus to show up but we're
- 00:03:18told that um when he got to the
- 00:03:22region uh he went to this house hoping
- 00:03:25that nobody was going to see him but
- 00:03:27once again a mother who had a child in
- 00:03:32Desperate
- 00:03:33circumstances heard that Jesus was there
- 00:03:37and made her way over to that house
- 00:03:40because of that situation and we're told
- 00:03:43in verse
- 00:03:4525 uh this this basic information a
- 00:03:48woman whose little daughter had an
- 00:03:49unclean spirit that of course a term for
- 00:03:53uh a demonic Spirit uh came and you'll
- 00:03:56notice the first thing she does is she
- 00:03:58fell at his feet and take note of that
- 00:04:01and we are immediately impressed with
- 00:04:03the
- 00:04:04woman's
- 00:04:06humility and um as she humbled herself
- 00:04:10before uh the Lord we we read this
- 00:04:13passage and right away we're kind of
- 00:04:14taken with this woman and we think
- 00:04:16that's good that's a that's a good way
- 00:04:17to start we like this you know she
- 00:04:19didn't come with a hottie sort of a
- 00:04:21thing or or proud she she immediately
- 00:04:24humbles herself down on her knees before
- 00:04:27the Lord and and and and so we kind of
- 00:04:30think okay that's that's that's good
- 00:04:33this this woman deserves to be helped
- 00:04:35that's kind of the way we think you know
- 00:04:37you know she's she's humbling herself
- 00:04:39she's she's crying out to the Lord she
- 00:04:41she deserves for the Lord to to respond
- 00:04:44but Mark goes on and he tells us here in
- 00:04:47verse 26 that the woman was a
- 00:04:50gentile your Bible may say
- 00:04:53Greek and she was of syrop phenician
- 00:04:56birth no biggie there I mean he was in
- 00:05:00the area of Phoenicia why wouldn't he be
- 00:05:03uh confronted by someone who was born
- 00:05:06and raised in the area that may not mean
- 00:05:08a whole lot to you and I when we read
- 00:05:11that this woman is of syrop phenician
- 00:05:13birth but when you understand the
- 00:05:16history of these people it takes on some
- 00:05:19greater significance the areas of tyer
- 00:05:22and siden particularly tyer were often
- 00:05:24friendly with the Israelites you'll
- 00:05:26remember when Solomon built the temple
- 00:05:29and his own Palace he imported a lot of
- 00:05:32wood from the this this Regional area
- 00:05:35but there were times as the kingdom of
- 00:05:37God progressed in the Old Testament that
- 00:05:40the Pagan influence of The Phoenician
- 00:05:43Kingdom became very pronounced
- 00:05:45particularly when one of the kings of
- 00:05:47the northern region married a Woman by
- 00:05:50the name of Jezebel you guys remember
- 00:05:53Jezebel yeah she was a real piece of
- 00:05:55work let me tell you and she was a
- 00:05:58Phoenician princess
- 00:06:00and she was almost solely responsible
- 00:06:04for popularizing the worship of baale in
- 00:06:08Israel and this is the kind of stuff
- 00:06:11that came out of that that area and and
- 00:06:14the Jews were very leery of the people
- 00:06:17there and so forth probably would avoid
- 00:06:20them at all costs and yet here is a a
- 00:06:23woman who comes from this kind of a
- 00:06:25pagan background who comes and we're
- 00:06:27told in verse 26 here in the middle
- 00:06:30that she begged him to um cast The Demon
- 00:06:34out of her daughter now Mark gives us
- 00:06:37kind of an abbreviated sort of a thing
- 00:06:38he just says she begged him and it kind
- 00:06:40of just sounds like this woman came and
- 00:06:43spoke to Jesus in a very pleading sort
- 00:06:45of a way but Matthew tells us in his
- 00:06:48account that the woman kept begging and
- 00:06:52kept begging and kept begging and kept
- 00:06:56begging uh Jesus to the point of
- 00:07:00embarrassment to the point where the
- 00:07:02disciples finally said you know Lord
- 00:07:05send her away she just keeps she keeps
- 00:07:07begging she keeps calling out after you
- 00:07:10and so forth um and immediately we're
- 00:07:14uncomfortable with what's kind of going
- 00:07:17on in this in this thing because we
- 00:07:19don't like to see people having you know
- 00:07:21to be begging and Jesus is not
- 00:07:24responding we like we like stories where
- 00:07:28Jesus quickly takes care of a situation
- 00:07:30and we're not concerned that the woman
- 00:07:32is of syrop phenician birth do mean
- 00:07:34anything to us we don't care she's just
- 00:07:35a woman in need right and so we see this
- 00:07:38woman she comes to Jesus she falls on
- 00:07:41her knees before the Lord there's this
- 00:07:43attitude instantly of humility and and
- 00:07:47and and uh petition Lord please please
- 00:07:50come and and take care of my little girl
- 00:07:53she's got this demon she's horrible
- 00:07:55she's tormented Lord would you please
- 00:07:58cast but Jesus doesn't
- 00:08:01respond Jesus goes a long time before he
- 00:08:05says anything he just maintains his
- 00:08:11silence and we're we don't like silence
- 00:08:14when it comes from
- 00:08:16God at
- 00:08:17all we're bothered when we have it
- 00:08:20happen to us we're bothered when we see
- 00:08:23it happened to somebody else kind of
- 00:08:24makes us Wonder a little
- 00:08:26bit you know what's kind of going on
- 00:08:29here why did they even put this in the
- 00:08:32Bible you know Lord I don't know that I
- 00:08:34would have had this one written down
- 00:08:36because it doesn't really cast you in a
- 00:08:37very pleasant
- 00:08:39light the kind of guy who would sit and
- 00:08:42listen to a woman a
- 00:08:44mom you mothers you know and understand
- 00:08:47that passion that you have for your
- 00:08:49children when they're sick when your
- 00:08:51kids are suffering when they've got
- 00:08:52something going on in their lives that's
- 00:08:54horrible what do you what do you what's
- 00:08:56the first thing you say I I I would
- 00:08:58gladly take take this on
- 00:09:00myself I would gladly suffer what my
- 00:09:03child is suffering with right now if
- 00:09:06they would just be released from this
- 00:09:08that's the way mothers think that's that
- 00:09:10maternal sort of a protective heart of
- 00:09:14the
- 00:09:15mother Jesus certainly knows that and
- 00:09:17he's hearing this thing crying out over
- 00:09:21and over and over and
- 00:09:25yet he
- 00:09:27responds with silence
- 00:09:30and it's not hard to read a story like
- 00:09:32this and kind of take up offense for the
- 00:09:34woman in the way that she's being
- 00:09:35treated and you know it only gets worse
- 00:09:37you keep reading look at verse
- 00:09:3927 and finally when he does speak what
- 00:09:42does he say he says no let the children
- 00:09:45be fed first for it's not right to take
- 00:09:46the children's bread and throw it to the
- 00:09:50dogs well you're kind of wondering here
- 00:09:52if Jesus is kind of having a bad day you
- 00:09:55know or or something like that kind of
- 00:09:57like that
- 00:10:03I'm sorry I just had to say
- 00:10:06that yeah you got to understand
- 00:10:08something about this term dogs the Jews
- 00:10:11referred to the Gentiles as dogs whether
- 00:10:14it was Samaritan or full Gentile you
- 00:10:16know Samaritans are half breeds but they
- 00:10:19called them dogs and the typical word
- 00:10:21that they would use to
- 00:10:23describe a gentile was a a word that had
- 00:10:28a connotation that was very unpleasant
- 00:10:31we are very dog friendly in our culture
- 00:10:34today some of you guys are big dog
- 00:10:37people God bless
- 00:10:38you um when we go to Family Camp I get
- 00:10:41to meet all of your
- 00:10:44dogs and I hear
- 00:10:47them I'm just kidding no I'm not
- 00:10:51uh anyway we're just very dog friendly I
- 00:10:54saw this one lady's uh profile on
- 00:10:57Facebook and she was just like I love
- 00:10:59dogs I want more dogs I don't want a
- 00:11:02bigger house so I can have more
- 00:11:03dogs and you know we to us dogs are you
- 00:11:08know man's best friend you know we say
- 00:11:11or something like that in in in Jewish
- 00:11:14kind of thought the the the the most
- 00:11:16popular term for dog was for a wild dog
- 00:11:20and wild dogs ran in packs and they were
- 00:11:24a big societal nuisance they got into
- 00:11:28everybody's garbage and they were
- 00:11:30dangerous and they would often um attack
- 00:11:34people because they were wild they were
- 00:11:36not domesticated and so there were there
- 00:11:39were issues and that's and that's the
- 00:11:41word that that uh the Jews often used
- 00:11:44when they you when they referred to a
- 00:11:46gentile as a dog now you do need to know
- 00:11:51here that Jesus uses a different word
- 00:11:55when he's talking to this syrop
- 00:11:56phenician woman he uses a word
- 00:12:00that really if you have a new King James
- 00:12:04Bible on your lap your Bible says little
- 00:12:06dog because it actually means puppy or
- 00:12:10house dog it was it was a word that was
- 00:12:13a little bit more geared to you know the
- 00:12:15domesticated version of a dog so he's
- 00:12:18he's softening it just a little bit
- 00:12:20still doesn't sound wonderfully nice you
- 00:12:23know but at least it's not the most
- 00:12:26negative connotation but he's making a
- 00:12:29Point here and here's the point it is
- 00:12:32not proper when you go out and prepare
- 00:12:36food for your family to take that food
- 00:12:40and then feed it to your animals or your
- 00:12:43dogs whatever and let your children uh
- 00:12:47go hungry and again when it comes out to
- 00:12:50this woman who has this great need in
- 00:12:52her life of Jesus's touch we're kind of
- 00:12:54taken aback by it we're a little bit
- 00:12:55offended by it and we're we're kind of
- 00:12:57like you know do you have to say
- 00:12:58something like that
- 00:12:59but you'll notice that it doesn't slow
- 00:13:02this woman down at all you know you know
- 00:13:06she hears this thing she's not daunted
- 00:13:09at all she comes right back and she
- 00:13:12starts off and her response is yes
- 00:13:16Lord you know what that means I'm in
- 00:13:18agreement this is a mother and this is
- 00:13:22this woman knows the very principle The
- 00:13:25Very point that Jesus is making you
- 00:13:27don't take what's prepared for the
- 00:13:29children and by the way in the picture
- 00:13:30here Jesus is saying the children refers
- 00:13:33to the nation of Israel he's saying I've
- 00:13:35set a table for Israel and it's their
- 00:13:37time to eat it's their time to come up
- 00:13:40and feast and to accept and to embrace
- 00:13:43namely himself the
- 00:13:45Messiah now there will come a time when
- 00:13:48this will be given to the Gentiles when
- 00:13:50the Jews reject it it will then be
- 00:13:52passed along to the Gentiles but that
- 00:13:54time is not now so it is not proper to
- 00:13:57take that which has been prepared pred
- 00:13:59for the children for Israel and to give
- 00:14:01it to their dogs her response is yes
- 00:14:03Lord you see isn't that interesting as a
- 00:14:06mother she knows and understands this
- 00:14:08principle yeah you don't take what's for
- 00:14:10your children and give it to the dogs I
- 00:14:12get that but her response is so
- 00:14:15wonderful she goes even the dogs eat
- 00:14:18what's under the table you know they eat
- 00:14:19the children's crumbs and I I get to see
- 00:14:22this whenever I watch well of course I
- 00:14:23raised four kids of my own but we never
- 00:14:26had a dog we had cats I don't know why
- 00:14:29we I don't know why I still have a cat
- 00:14:31but don't let me get me started but we
- 00:14:34didn't have dogs but my oldest daughter
- 00:14:37has a dog a big dog 90 PB dog sled dog
- 00:14:42uh that they allow in the house and and
- 00:14:45she has three kids it's funny when meal
- 00:14:47time comes this dog knows which kid is
- 00:14:50going to drop the biggest chunks you
- 00:14:52know and and he gravitates to the to the
- 00:14:55kid and he'll sit right there you know
- 00:14:58just playing plant himself just right
- 00:15:00there and just wait for it to happen cuz
- 00:15:01it's going to happen you know a
- 00:15:03six-year-old is going to you know don't
- 00:15:05tell your kids don't spill your milk
- 00:15:08they will spill their milk don't tell
- 00:15:10them you're going to get that all over
- 00:15:12the place they already know that right I
- 00:15:15at one point in my parenting I just told
- 00:15:17my kids now be sure and spill your milk
- 00:15:20because it took all the pressure off
- 00:15:21right no now they were being obedient
- 00:15:25anyway so there's this kind of this
- 00:15:28picture you know and and she says even
- 00:15:31that which is spilled under the
- 00:15:34table the dogs eat up so you know she
- 00:15:38makes this wonderful wonderful statement
- 00:15:41to to the Lord and we're told that his
- 00:15:44response is you know for this verse 29
- 00:15:47if you look with me in your Bible he
- 00:15:49said to her for this statement you may
- 00:15:51go your way the demon has left your
- 00:15:52daughter she went home and found the
- 00:15:54child lying in bed and the demon gone
- 00:15:57so we all kind of breathe a sigh of
- 00:15:59relief you know turned out okay this
- 00:16:03woman that we wanted to get helped you
- 00:16:05know I mean she came with such an
- 00:16:06attitude of humility and cried out to
- 00:16:09the Lord again Matthew tells us
- 00:16:11repeatedly for a long period of time and
- 00:16:14then finally when she is responded to it
- 00:16:16sounds a lot like
- 00:16:19rejection and uh we're we're kind of
- 00:16:23left to wonder you know
- 00:16:25why why all the drama why couldn't Jesus
- 00:16:29have just said okay Shazam there you go
- 00:16:31your daughter's healed your whatever you
- 00:16:34know and and you know why does he have
- 00:16:36to drag it out why make her cry
- 00:16:41out for this extended period of time and
- 00:16:44then finally when he does speak to her
- 00:16:46why make a derogatory statement you know
- 00:16:49we're we're we're Americans we don't
- 00:16:52like that we get offended really easy
- 00:16:55you know we
- 00:16:57Americans and uh so we're kind of
- 00:16:59wondering why is this all really
- 00:17:01necessary well I I think this is a
- 00:17:03classic case of not being able to see
- 00:17:07the whole picture like Jesus can see it
- 00:17:11and there are a lot of passages in the
- 00:17:13Bible frankly where Jesus confronts
- 00:17:15people or heals people or rebukes people
- 00:17:20in such a way that we're kind of left
- 00:17:22scratching our head kind of
- 00:17:24going that was weird why did you do it
- 00:17:28that way and so forth um and because it
- 00:17:31doesn't make sense to us from our
- 00:17:34perspective we tend to kind of get
- 00:17:36confused by it all and this is this
- 00:17:38example is kind of one of those
- 00:17:42instances and one of the interesting
- 00:17:45things about this woman that Mark
- 00:17:48doesn't tell us but Matthew does is that
- 00:17:52um she actually knew who Jesus was from
- 00:17:57at least she used all the right titles
- 00:18:00let me show you a passage from Matthew
- 00:18:01chap 15 where he gives us this Insight
- 00:18:05Behold a Canaanite woman from that
- 00:18:06region came out and was crying have
- 00:18:09mercy you know look at how she cries
- 00:18:12have mercy on me oh
- 00:18:15Lord son of David Son of David is a
- 00:18:18Messianic
- 00:18:20title and that was a title that many
- 00:18:23Jews were uncomfortable using Around
- 00:18:26Jesus because they all knew what it
- 00:18:29meant it meant you are the
- 00:18:31Messiah but this syrop phenician woman
- 00:18:34who shouldn't know anything about
- 00:18:37Jewish understanding of the Messiah she
- 00:18:40Nails it I mean she just zings it right
- 00:18:42in there have mercy on me oh Lord son of
- 00:18:45David and then goes on to explain the
- 00:18:47situation that's kind of
- 00:18:49impressive and you know we read
- 00:18:51Matthew's account and we're kind of
- 00:18:52further impressed by this woman not only
- 00:18:55did she she maintain this attitude of
- 00:18:57great humility
- 00:18:59not only does she cry from the depth of
- 00:19:01her heart but she kind of has this thing
- 00:19:03about Jesus all dialed in as to who he
- 00:19:05is and we're left with the conclusion
- 00:19:08she deserves to be
- 00:19:11helped and that's again a very American
- 00:19:14way of for you and I to think about this
- 00:19:17she deserves it
- 00:19:19right and and that's why we're kind of
- 00:19:22bummed
- 00:19:23by she gets met with
- 00:19:26silence and she's so deserving
- 00:19:29and then he's quiet he ignores
- 00:19:31her talking to the guys you know she's
- 00:19:34just crying over
- 00:19:35here and and you know we don't even know
- 00:19:37if they're eating or just chatting or or
- 00:19:41what they're
- 00:19:42doing and I have to wonder you
- 00:19:46know I wonder how we would respond I
- 00:19:49wonder how I would respond I'll make it
- 00:19:52personal if I was in this situation one
- 00:19:55of my kids desperately
- 00:19:58needs help and there's nobody that can
- 00:20:00help this
- 00:20:02child except this Jesus and I've heard
- 00:20:04about
- 00:20:05him and I believe I
- 00:20:08believe that he could do something I
- 00:20:10believe he can make a
- 00:20:12difference but I go to him I seek him
- 00:20:17out I lay my petition before
- 00:20:20him and I get met with
- 00:20:24silence and then after the silence what
- 00:20:26I do get sounds very much like
- 00:20:30rejection and I
- 00:20:32wonder how would I respond beyond that
- 00:20:35point would I would I walk away with my
- 00:20:38feelings hurt because you know what I
- 00:20:40think it's very very easy to get our
- 00:20:41feelings hurt some people obviously more
- 00:20:44than
- 00:20:45others are quickly hurt by the things
- 00:20:49people say or don't say and let me tell
- 00:20:52you some when we're crying out to
- 00:20:55God and we're in pain
- 00:20:59and we're met with
- 00:21:01silence wow that is
- 00:21:04always a time of great
- 00:21:07Temptation for us to give in to the hurt
- 00:21:11of that situation and ask start asking
- 00:21:14questions like doesn't God
- 00:21:17know how hurt I am doesn't God know how
- 00:21:21painful the situation is doesn't he
- 00:21:24doesn't he understand how I'm feeling
- 00:21:27and we feel very
- 00:21:29rejected by it
- 00:21:31all and there are a lot of
- 00:21:36Christians who will enter a situation
- 00:21:39like
- 00:21:40that where you cry out to God with all
- 00:21:43of your heart in the midst of your pain
- 00:21:45and you are met with
- 00:21:46silence and you are so hurt that
- 00:21:50sometimes we just give
- 00:21:53up so what is God doing in times of
- 00:21:57Silence
- 00:21:59what is he
- 00:22:00doing well people love to try to answer
- 00:22:02that question I've read a lot of
- 00:22:03commentaries a lot of people teaching
- 00:22:07even on this particular passage and and
- 00:22:09and I've listened to a lot of Believers
- 00:22:10talk about those times of life when God
- 00:22:13doesn't seem to answer and people love
- 00:22:15to you
- 00:22:16know inject their
- 00:22:19ideas here's what I think's going on oh
- 00:22:22we're just
- 00:22:23guessing we do that a
- 00:22:26lot we it's called speaking into the
- 00:22:29silence and it's not a very wise thing
- 00:22:31to
- 00:22:32do because honestly we don't know and
- 00:22:35and what Jesus is doing in the life of
- 00:22:38this syrop phenician woman by by holding
- 00:22:41off for the long period of time that he
- 00:22:43did and then finally saying something
- 00:22:45that you and I would consider to be
- 00:22:46hurtful and offensive and re and and
- 00:22:48part of a a rejection sort of a thing
- 00:22:52that's I don't know what's Jesus doing I
- 00:22:55don't
- 00:22:56know I don't you know but doesn't that
- 00:22:59happen a lot you guys don't don't you
- 00:23:02find that in the course of your
- 00:23:05Christian Life things happen to you and
- 00:23:08to other people that you don't get and
- 00:23:10you don't
- 00:23:12understand and and and and so what are
- 00:23:14we going to do you know with that sort
- 00:23:16of a
- 00:23:17thing one of the things we have to
- 00:23:19remember and this is something we
- 00:23:20learned last week in our first half of
- 00:23:24the study of uh Matthew chapter 7 we
- 00:23:27learned that God always looks at the
- 00:23:29heart and because he can see the heart
- 00:23:32clearly you you and I can't we can't
- 00:23:35even see our own Hearts I mean we think
- 00:23:37we know our hearts but God sees our
- 00:23:39heart in a perfectly transparent way and
- 00:23:42he knows how to best address situations
- 00:23:45and things in our lives and if sometimes
- 00:23:48addressing that situation begins with a
- 00:23:51period of Silence that's his business
- 00:23:54here's the question are you and I going
- 00:23:56to get hurt are we going to get hurt
- 00:23:57feelings are we going to become angry
- 00:23:59are we going to become bitter are we
- 00:24:00going to close our Bible and say all
- 00:24:02right enough with that junk I'm done
- 00:24:04with this this I don't I don't think God
- 00:24:07cares I don't think you know I don't
- 00:24:09think he's
- 00:24:11listening and that is the very common
- 00:24:15and very often uh damaging sort of a
- 00:24:19response that people will
- 00:24:22have and just you
- 00:24:24know as we look at the passage here I
- 00:24:28just got done telling you I don't know
- 00:24:30what Jesus is doing exactly I'll tell
- 00:24:31you what it what it looks like but
- 00:24:34that's again this is going to be a guess
- 00:24:35okay what it looks like he's doing is
- 00:24:37drawing out a genuiness of faith in her
- 00:24:41life to see if she's going to persevere
- 00:24:43and press through even after the silence
- 00:24:48and the appearance of Rejection it
- 00:24:49appears and you know the woman comes
- 00:24:51through with flying colors I got to tell
- 00:24:53you this is a neat lady I mean if I want
- 00:24:55somebody interceding for me I think I'd
- 00:24:57get this gal
- 00:24:58cuz she's a mom for one thing and she is
- 00:25:02bold for another and she is full of
- 00:25:07perseverance and she doesn't let any of
- 00:25:09this thing stop her this statement that
- 00:25:12she finally makes even in the face of
- 00:25:14this
- 00:25:15rejection you know no I I'm not it's not
- 00:25:18proper to take what is intended for the
- 00:25:20children and give it to the dogs instead
- 00:25:22of going you forget you then buddy and
- 00:25:25walking storming out she comes back with
- 00:25:27this incredible response of faith that
- 00:25:31says yes Lord but even the dogs eat the
- 00:25:33crumbs that fall from the table and
- 00:25:35we're all just like wow that's
- 00:25:37incredible what an what an amazing
- 00:25:39statement that she continues on even in
- 00:25:43the face of all of this and she you know
- 00:25:45and it's such a statement of faith too
- 00:25:47because she's basically saying I don't
- 00:25:48need the meal give me the crumb the
- 00:25:50crumb's enough you know which is
- 00:25:53powerful in and of itself but please
- 00:25:56don't miss the
- 00:25:59because I think this is really the point
- 00:26:00of the passage she held
- 00:26:03on to faith even in the midst of Silence
- 00:26:08even in the midst of apparent rejection
- 00:26:10she held on and that is the lesson
- 00:26:15here she could have done what you and I
- 00:26:19have done I dare say and that is you
- 00:26:21know be sent into an emotional tail
- 00:26:24spin when God is silent and doesn't
- 00:26:27respond according to our
- 00:26:29expectations believe me I've been there
- 00:26:32I can be just as emotional as you can
- 00:26:35and feel just as disappointed when God
- 00:26:37doesn't respond and she could have done
- 00:26:40that she could have gotten mad she could
- 00:26:42have you know given up but she
- 00:26:44maintained two very important
- 00:26:47things and and these are very important
- 00:26:49for us to see first of all she
- 00:26:51maintained her attitude of
- 00:26:54humility even in the face of what she
- 00:26:57was receiving from the Lord
- 00:26:58Lord understanding her own
- 00:27:01unworthiness and then second of all she
- 00:27:03maintained her
- 00:27:05faith and understood that if she
- 00:27:07persisted ultimately she believed Jesus
- 00:27:10would
- 00:27:11respond I mean why else keep talking if
- 00:27:15you're convinced that it's not going to
- 00:27:17do any good you usually shut
- 00:27:19up right so she kept talking which
- 00:27:24suggests well more than suggests tells
- 00:27:26us that she believed D there would be a
- 00:27:30good conclusion to this
- 00:27:34situation let me let me let me explain a
- 00:27:36little something about the difference
- 00:27:38between this woman and us let me tell
- 00:27:40you why we get angry at God let me tell
- 00:27:43you why we get sent into those emotional
- 00:27:46tail spins when God doesn't meet our
- 00:27:48expectations you ready for this because
- 00:27:50we think we deserve it we deserve
- 00:27:54better we think we deserve better I've
- 00:27:58actually had unbelievers tell me when
- 00:28:00I'm sharing the Lord with them they'll
- 00:28:01say well what's God ever done for me
- 00:28:03I'll saywell what do you deserve to have
- 00:28:04God do for you and they're usually like
- 00:28:08well and they don't you know because
- 00:28:10they're kind of caught in the face of
- 00:28:12their attitude that I'm entitled I mean
- 00:28:14does isn't isn't good stuff what God
- 00:28:17does isn't he in the business of
- 00:28:19showering us with good
- 00:28:21stuff how come I haven't gotten it I
- 00:28:24called out to him I prayed I didn't get
- 00:28:26the good stuff I'm you know forget God
- 00:28:28what does that attitude say I deserve
- 00:28:32it that's why we get mad that's why we
- 00:28:35get disappointed that's why we that's
- 00:28:38why we throw up our hands and say I'm
- 00:28:40done with all this God
- 00:28:42stuff you know I'm GNA be treated like
- 00:28:45in this
- 00:28:47fashion do you see the here's the deal
- 00:28:49with the cyr phenician Woman Jesus not
- 00:28:52only has this protracted time where he
- 00:28:55ignores
- 00:28:56her but then when he finally speaks up
- 00:28:58and he says to her it's not right to
- 00:29:01give this stuff to the children's dogs
- 00:29:04when it's prepared for them she's not
- 00:29:07even
- 00:29:08phased she doesn't have any issues with
- 00:29:10her own personal worthiness she she's
- 00:29:12not sitting there going I deserve this
- 00:29:15Jesus I have been here for how long now
- 00:29:18crying out to you and what do you do
- 00:29:21first you ignore me then you insult me I
- 00:29:26never you you know sort of a thing
- 00:29:29right she doesn't do that why the issue
- 00:29:33of worth isn't even on the
- 00:29:37table she understands from the get-go
- 00:29:41she's not worthy she knows that it's a
- 00:29:45foregone conclusion we don't know that
- 00:29:48we go into it thinking we
- 00:29:50are good God I called you
- 00:29:54answer because this is me calling
- 00:29:58and I'm worthy right this woman didn't
- 00:30:02struggle with that she wasn't trying to
- 00:30:04convince God of anything she knew she
- 00:30:06wasn't worthy of a response she knew she
- 00:30:08wasn't
- 00:30:09worthy as a as a non-jew she
- 00:30:13knew say what you want I don't care it's
- 00:30:16not going to phase me because selfworth
- 00:30:19isn't on the table now listen I
- 00:30:21understand some people actually have
- 00:30:22feelings of un they don't feel worthy I
- 00:30:25I get that we hear that actually quite
- 00:30:27often people will say I don't feel
- 00:30:28worthy of God's love and so I know that
- 00:30:31some people feel that way but you know
- 00:30:32what those people are still talking
- 00:30:35they're relating to God from the
- 00:30:37standpoint of worthiness or worth
- 00:30:40selfworth even those people who feel
- 00:30:42unworthy are basing it on worth and
- 00:30:45they're telling you by saying I don't
- 00:30:48feel worthy of God's love that it ought
- 00:30:50to be based on worth you see even though
- 00:30:55they're saying I don't feel worthy of it
- 00:30:57they're telling you I I should probably
- 00:31:00feel worthy because isn't that how God
- 00:31:01treats US based on our
- 00:31:04worth guys you get this God does not
- 00:31:06treat US based on our worth okay get
- 00:31:09that out of your head that's an
- 00:31:11americanism that you have to excise from
- 00:31:13your brain and your heart you have to
- 00:31:16get rid of it the syrop phenician woman
- 00:31:17wasn't even challenged by these
- 00:31:20things it was that you know she like hey
- 00:31:22I just need your
- 00:31:23help she couldn't be
- 00:31:26offended she could couldn't she already
- 00:31:29knew she wasn't
- 00:31:31worthy she got that part right I like
- 00:31:35this woman she's
- 00:31:38cool
- 00:31:40so
- 00:31:44anyway
- 00:31:47listen your child may not be in the
- 00:31:51desperate
- 00:31:52situation that hers was
- 00:31:55in but
- 00:31:59you know possessed by a a demon but they
- 00:32:03still may be in the clutches of the
- 00:32:04devil just the same here's my
- 00:32:07advice be like this
- 00:32:11mom be like this lady and don't let
- 00:32:13anything get in the way of bringing your
- 00:32:16cries before the throne of grace don't
- 00:32:18let anything get in the way including
- 00:32:21silence because the Silence of God is
- 00:32:23one of the greatest temptations that you
- 00:32:25and I deal with in terms of feeling
- 00:32:30rejected and
- 00:32:32hopeless it is a huge Temptation I'm
- 00:32:36saying to you don't let that happen
- 00:32:40press in and don't let how your life is
- 00:32:44going or what has happened color your
- 00:32:47opinion of God's love and his Mercy you
- 00:32:50know I love the fact that during worship
- 00:32:53today we emphasized did you notice how
- 00:32:56much we emphasize the love of God
- 00:32:58and how good he is you're a good good
- 00:33:01father we sing that and those are great
- 00:33:05lyrics and they're
- 00:33:07wonderful but as soon as Life Starts
- 00:33:11going hard we start wondering if
- 00:33:14maybe I don't know it might not be true
- 00:33:17it's pretty tough to say God is good
- 00:33:19when things in your life are not good
- 00:33:22right so what when you're going to God
- 00:33:25and you're pressing in for an answer
- 00:33:27you're coming to him for a solution
- 00:33:29what's going to keep you coming when
- 00:33:31you're met with silence when you're met
- 00:33:33with what appears like rejection what's
- 00:33:35going to keep you
- 00:33:38coming if you you know if you reject the
- 00:33:41idea finally that he is good well
- 00:33:45there's going to be
- 00:33:46nothing he meets me with
- 00:33:49silence he he rejects me or at least it
- 00:33:52appears like it so my conclusion is he
- 00:33:56is not good
- 00:33:58you're done I mean you're in a hopeless
- 00:34:01scenario at that particular point I want
- 00:34:03you to notice how this woman did not
- 00:34:06allow what was happening to stop her
- 00:34:09from
- 00:34:11believing this man has the
- 00:34:14answer and if I continue to press in and
- 00:34:17if I continue to make my need
- 00:34:20known he's going to do something and I'm
- 00:34:22not going to let anything get in the way
- 00:34:25I don't care how long he ignores me I
- 00:34:27don't care what he may say that may
- 00:34:29sound like rejection I am staying here
- 00:34:34until this thing gets dealt with you
- 00:34:37know why because he's good and I may not
- 00:34:41feel like he's good right now but I'm
- 00:34:44going to believe what he says in his
- 00:34:47word he is good and I'm going to hang on
- 00:34:52to
- 00:34:53that people that's where Faith really
- 00:34:56flies the final part of this chapter
- 00:35:00goes like this verse 31 then he returned
- 00:35:03from the region of Ty and went through
- 00:35:04sidon to the Sea of Galilee finally in
- 00:35:07the region of the decapolis stop there
- 00:35:09for a moment it's called the decapolis
- 00:35:11because it was a region that was made up
- 00:35:13of 10 cities and and let me remind you
- 00:35:16here that just a couple of chapters ago
- 00:35:19in Mark chapter 5 Jesus went to this
- 00:35:21region and when he got off the boat
- 00:35:23you'll remember he was met with what the
- 00:35:25man we call the man of the tombs
- 00:35:27remember remember the man who had all
- 00:35:30those demons that no one could control
- 00:35:32and Jesus did a powerful work of
- 00:35:36releasing that man from that demonic
- 00:35:38possession and you'll remember that what
- 00:35:40happened in the midst of that uh
- 00:35:41situation was the demons asked
- 00:35:43permission to go into a herd of pigs
- 00:35:45Jesus allowed them to they freaked out
- 00:35:47of their brain ran down the hill and
- 00:35:49started floating in the water I mean
- 00:35:51they died the whole herd of Pigs we're
- 00:35:53told the towns people came out they
- 00:35:55looked at the situation the man was in
- 00:35:57his right mind
- 00:35:58pigs are now floating and they basically
- 00:36:00said to Jesus um would you just kind of
- 00:36:03go they were like just leave just leave
- 00:36:07and he did right but then you remember
- 00:36:09the last thing that happened was that
- 00:36:11the man who'd been set free said to
- 00:36:13Jesus I want to come with you Jesus said
- 00:36:16no you got to stay here you got to go
- 00:36:17tell your family you got to tell your
- 00:36:19friends I want you to go throughout
- 00:36:20these area I want you to tell him what
- 00:36:22God has done for you and he did and now
- 00:36:25Jesus is back it's months later now
- 00:36:27Jesus is back he's at the same area and
- 00:36:30I want you to
- 00:36:32see that that the the attitude of this
- 00:36:35people has changed verse 32 we're told
- 00:36:38here that they they brought to him a man
- 00:36:40who was deaf and had a speech impediment
- 00:36:42and They begged him to lay his hand on
- 00:36:44him again these are the people that just
- 00:36:46a little while ago were encouraging
- 00:36:48Jesus to leave their area now they're
- 00:36:50bringing sick people and saying please
- 00:36:51Lord touch this man verse 33 says and
- 00:36:55taking him aside from the crowd
- 00:36:56privately he put his fingers into his
- 00:36:58ears and after spitting touched his
- 00:37:00tongue kind of gross and looking up to
- 00:37:04heaven he sighed and said to him F FAA
- 00:37:08which is an Aramaic word by the way and
- 00:37:10Mark gives us the uh translation it is
- 00:37:14be opened and his ears were opened his
- 00:37:17tongue was released and he spoke plainly
- 00:37:21great story we like this we like it when
- 00:37:23people get helped right away um uh it's
- 00:37:26a story of a specific healing but there
- 00:37:27are some
- 00:37:29unique uh things about this that I'll
- 00:37:31just throw out that you can take note of
- 00:37:33first of all Mark is the only gospel
- 00:37:35writer who tells this story second of
- 00:37:37all uh the word that is translated
- 00:37:39speech impediment is used here in Mark
- 00:37:42and nowhere else in the New Testament
- 00:37:44interesting and thirdly this is a really
- 00:37:47weird way to heal somebody I mean you
- 00:37:50know ears or fingers in your ears and
- 00:37:53then spitting and then touching his
- 00:37:56tongue
- 00:37:58but you know you think about it and what
- 00:38:00was the issue with the man he was deaf
- 00:38:03and he had a speech impediment obviously
- 00:38:05can't hear himself talk so these are the
- 00:38:08areas that need to be touched right and
- 00:38:10so I think Jesus is communicating first
- 00:38:12of all to him what he's about to do but
- 00:38:15he he he goes through this very odd
- 00:38:19process of healing this man and I love
- 00:38:23that he is healed with a word be opened
- 00:38:26you know and the man is released his it
- 00:38:30says his tongue was set free or released
- 00:38:33as what it means his ears were opened
- 00:38:36and so forth and he began to speak
- 00:38:39plainly and you know Miracles are always
- 00:38:41fun to read Because Miracles are
- 00:38:42Miracles and miracles are fun and
- 00:38:44everybody likes to think about miracles
- 00:38:45and we would love to see more miracles
- 00:38:47and even have them going on in our own
- 00:38:49life but you know there's something else
- 00:38:50about this story that really is cool and
- 00:38:54that is what we read in verse 33 if you
- 00:38:57look with with me there at the beginning
- 00:38:58of that verse it says and taking him
- 00:39:01aside from the crowd privately and I got
- 00:39:04to tell you something I like that I like
- 00:39:07it for a bunch of different reasons I
- 00:39:08love the fact that Jesus wasn't playing
- 00:39:11to the crowd but I also love that Jesus
- 00:39:15often took people out of the public
- 00:39:17Spotlight to do a a very intimate and
- 00:39:20personal work in their lives and I'm
- 00:39:24sure this was probably done to the
- 00:39:26disappointment of some of the people who
- 00:39:27came because they were look lose and
- 00:39:29just wanted let's go see a miracle sort
- 00:39:30of a thing and yet Jesus pulls this man
- 00:39:32away from the crowd gets alone with him
- 00:39:36and does this work and and and again
- 00:39:37this is something we see in the word of
- 00:39:40God where Jesus
- 00:39:43withdraws from the crowds and so
- 00:39:46forth but you know when I think about my
- 00:39:51own life and maybe you can take a moment
- 00:39:52to think yourself about some of the most
- 00:39:55T most powerful times that God has
- 00:39:57worked in your life and I I I thought
- 00:39:59about this as I was going through this
- 00:40:01passage and it became very apparent to
- 00:40:04me that those times when God has most
- 00:40:08powerfully moved in my life I've been
- 00:40:10alone with him it's not been around
- 00:40:12other people it's been when I have just
- 00:40:15been forced for some reason or another
- 00:40:17to kind of be alone and that's not to
- 00:40:20say I I love being alone necessarily I
- 00:40:22love being with you guys I love
- 00:40:24worshiping with you I love praying with
- 00:40:26you but one of the the reasons I like it
- 00:40:28so much is because it's
- 00:40:29easy when the worship team is up here
- 00:40:32playing it's easy to start singing and
- 00:40:34worshiping I mean like all of us we're
- 00:40:36we just start just singing but before
- 00:40:39long you know we're we're singing it to
- 00:40:40the Lord and we're really pressing in
- 00:40:43and we're really focusing on him at
- 00:40:45least I hope so and then when people
- 00:40:47begin to pray you know don't you find it
- 00:40:49hard now some of you guys are prayer
- 00:40:50warriors God bless you this doesn't
- 00:40:52apply to you but for the rest of us it's
- 00:40:54hard to pray alone it's just it's hard
- 00:40:56to you just kind of get going and yours
- 00:40:57thinking about what needs to be done and
- 00:40:59your mind easily can kind of run after
- 00:41:01some other thoughts and and and stuff
- 00:41:03and praying is hard that's why I love to
- 00:41:05get together you know with other people
- 00:41:07and pray because it keeps me on you know
- 00:41:09task keeps me on course right it's easy
- 00:41:13but boy when you get alone I don't know
- 00:41:15well I don't know about you when I get
- 00:41:17alone that's when things get very real
- 00:41:20very
- 00:41:21quickly and you know you stop
- 00:41:24pretending we can pretend really easily
- 00:41:27in worship I can be have my eyes closed
- 00:41:30and you know like this and be thinking
- 00:41:32about the ball
- 00:41:34game I'm just admitting to you or what
- 00:41:37I'm going to have for
- 00:41:38dinner thank you Lord for dinner or what
- 00:41:41whatever you know I mean I can do that
- 00:41:43and and you can too I can be praying or
- 00:41:46you can be praying and I'm in the room
- 00:41:47and we're all holding hands and you're
- 00:41:49praying and I'm thinking about something
- 00:41:52else boy you know when you when you when
- 00:41:55you get alone with God it's like there's
- 00:41:57no pretending anymore it's just me and
- 00:41:59God and he doesn't he doesn't impress
- 00:42:01easily at
- 00:42:03all and it's just
- 00:42:06us just me and
- 00:42:10him and that's a good
- 00:42:12thing you know Jesus
- 00:42:15often broke away from the crowds to just
- 00:42:18get alone with his heavenly
- 00:42:21father and I've been always I've been
- 00:42:24challenged by that a lot thinking you
- 00:42:28know I I really should cultivate that in
- 00:42:29my own life it's it's a tough thing
- 00:42:31though it's a difficult thing to kind of
- 00:42:34do but it really puts the personal in a
- 00:42:37personal relationship with God otherwise
- 00:42:40if I only pray in front of other people
- 00:42:42and worship in front of other people
- 00:42:43then I have a fairly public relationship
- 00:42:46with God it's like God I'll talk to you
- 00:42:48as long as there's other people around
- 00:42:50I'll worship you as long as there's a
- 00:42:52band you know as long as they strike up
- 00:42:54the tune then I'm good to go but you
- 00:42:56know if I'm just kind of alone in my car
- 00:42:58or in my bedroom or or
- 00:43:01whatever don't expect a whole lot out of
- 00:43:03me you know because I'm not really into
- 00:43:05that sort of a thing well I think we
- 00:43:07need to get into that sort of thing I
- 00:43:08think we need to generate and and and
- 00:43:10cultivate a a a personal walk with God
- 00:43:15but these last two verses are very
- 00:43:17interesting as well it says in verse 36
- 00:43:19and Jesus charged them to tell no one
- 00:43:21but the more he charged them the more
- 00:43:23zealously they proclaimed it and they
- 00:43:25were astonished being beyond measure it
- 00:43:28says that the things that Jesus was
- 00:43:30doing saying he has done all things well
- 00:43:33he even makes the deaf hear and the mute
- 00:43:37speak and I want to just end by focusing
- 00:43:40on that last comment right there that
- 00:43:42the people of this region the region of
- 00:43:43the decapolis are saying in the you know
- 00:43:46to one another he does everything well
- 00:43:49he does all things well that's a good
- 00:43:52thing to say I mean these are the people
- 00:43:54who got very annoyed last time Jesus was
- 00:43:57there because he was kind of
- 00:43:59interfering we we just want to raise
- 00:44:01pigs okay you guys get it pigs were
- 00:44:04unclean animals Jews were not supposed
- 00:44:06to raise pigs unlawful right but they're
- 00:44:08like raising pigs and they're just kind
- 00:44:10of living their own lives and you know
- 00:44:12when we do that when we're living our
- 00:44:13own lives living for ourselves I don't
- 00:44:15really care about what God's word has to
- 00:44:17say I'm just going to live my life and
- 00:44:18God comes into my life that's an
- 00:44:21interference have you ever had a
- 00:44:22Christian come up and start talking to
- 00:44:23you about Jesus when you didn't want to
- 00:44:25hear anything about it and it's
- 00:44:27interference like you know like just go
- 00:44:28away that's exactly what they said to
- 00:44:31Jesus the last time just please go away
- 00:44:33You're
- 00:44:35interfering but things have changed
- 00:44:38there's been time the man of the tombs
- 00:44:40has been out there doing a great
- 00:44:42job and now the people their hearts are
- 00:44:45open their minds are open they're
- 00:44:47looking at what Jesus is doing this is
- 00:44:49good and you know this this response
- 00:44:52that this is good he does all things
- 00:44:55well is
- 00:44:57is something that we all must come to
- 00:45:00eventually and we do once we stop
- 00:45:02arguing with God and once we stop trying
- 00:45:05to figure everything out and make make
- 00:45:06him explain everything to us you know I
- 00:45:09just get mad at God because he don't
- 00:45:10tell me what he's
- 00:45:12doing and that's me exalting my
- 00:45:15intellect over the top of his will and
- 00:45:18saying listen if you don't explain
- 00:45:19yourself to
- 00:45:20me we're not going to have a good
- 00:45:22relationship
- 00:45:24here but when I stop
- 00:45:27insisting on my own will when I stop
- 00:45:30insisting on my own understanding being
- 00:45:33satisfied and I begin to trust in the
- 00:45:35fact that he is a good good
- 00:45:39father things begin to change my
- 00:45:42attitude toward him begins to change and
- 00:45:44I begin to see that he does all things
- 00:45:47well and eventually we can come to that
- 00:45:49place like the psalmist and let me put
- 00:45:51this up on the screen for you this is
- 00:45:54from Psalm chapter 18 I've quoted out of
- 00:45:56the NIV because I like it as for God his
- 00:45:59way is perfect isn't that a great verse
- 00:46:02The Lord's word
- 00:46:05flawless goes on to Simply say he
- 00:46:07Shields all who take refuge in him but I
- 00:46:09love that statement as for God his way
- 00:46:12is
- 00:46:25perfect e
