  • 00:00:00
a while back Kim Kardashian did an
  • 00:00:01
inhome interview with fogue and there
  • 00:00:03
was just a glimpse of her bathroom
  • 00:00:05
during the interview viewers noticed her
  • 00:00:08
seemingly flat sinkless sink and it set
  • 00:00:11
    the internet on
  • 00:00:13
fire but come on those sinks are next
  • 00:00:16
level where does the water even go there
  • 00:00:18
was so much Buzz about her sink she took
  • 00:00:20
to the socials to show everyone that it
  • 00:00:22
did in fact work it does actually like
  • 00:00:25
slightly slope down that you can kind of
  • 00:00:27
see and there's a slit for the water
  • 00:00:31
so now we know the sink works but
  • 00:00:32
inquiring minds want to know how the
  • 00:00:34
heck was it made she also mentioned that
  • 00:00:36
    it cost over
  • 00:00:37
$30,000 so in this video I'm going to
  • 00:00:39
try to build a replica of Kim
  • 00:00:41
Kardashian's viral snc and see if it
  • 00:00:43
    actually justifies a $30,000 price

  • 00:00:56
cool all right day one and this is a
  • 00:00:59
    project
  • 00:01:01
I've been wanting to do for a really
  • 00:01:02
long time but honestly the flat sink
  • 00:01:04
thing was just so impractical I didn't
  • 00:01:06
want to do it for my own home but
  • 00:01:08
recently a fan who's a home builder was
  • 00:01:10
asking for help doing concrete sinks for
  • 00:01:12
an Airbnb that he's building nearby and
  • 00:01:14
it seemed like a perfect fit for this
  • 00:01:16
project so today we're going to go meet
  • 00:01:18
him out at fishstone Concrete in the
  • 00:01:20
Chicago BBS and hopefully build this
  • 00:01:22
    sink in 3

days see you how you been doing well
  • 00:01:31
doing well yeah nice to meet you nice to
  • 00:01:33
meet you did you bring a dog I
  • 00:01:35
did hi bud I know it's exciting come on
  • 00:01:38
we got all the supervisors here today
  • 00:01:40
with Tex 12 seconds later yeah Tex
  • 00:01:44
already made himself at home right here
  • 00:01:46
I did walk him this morning but you know
  • 00:01:49
just to give you guys a little preview
  • 00:01:50
we got Tom Fisher owner of fishstone we
  • 00:01:53
got Chris Grunwald over here who's been
  • 00:01:55
watching the channel and called me about
  • 00:01:57
making some sinks basically told him if
  • 00:01:58
you make the exact sink I want to make
  • 00:01:59
make then you can come and make it with
  • 00:02:01
me nice guy he said that sounded fun so
  • 00:02:04
    let's hope it
  • 00:02:06
is this is basically the system we're
  • 00:02:08
going to be using to make that gradually
  • 00:02:11
sloped sink right correct so what do we
  • 00:02:13
got here so this is stretch form fabric
  • 00:02:15
    it's a stretchable fabric that has a
  • 00:02:17
waterproof membrane on there when I've
  • 00:02:18
seen this before it's like they stretch
  • 00:02:20
a fabric over something and then you
  • 00:02:21
    make like a fiberglass mold I haven't
  • 00:02:23
seen them pour directly onto a fabric so
  • 00:02:26
that's pretty cool so we might have
  • 00:02:27
given up the whole secret but not really
  • 00:02:30
because you'll notice on this one the
  • 00:02:32
sink is really high this would not look
  • 00:02:36
like an invisible drain you notice
  • 00:02:37
there's Flex when we put the concrete on
  • 00:02:39
there getting that Flex right there's
  • 00:02:41
going to be some skill and maybe a
  • 00:02:43
little bit of luck make sure that we can
  • 00:02:44
get enough of a slope when we're using a
  • 00:02:46
tiny like 3/4 in high piece of wood
  • 00:02:49
underneath this to make it all right so
  • 00:02:51
we got a plan yep let's build the form
  • 00:02:53
let's get to it now when I said we had a
  • 00:02:54
plan there I think there might have been
  • 00:02:57
some YouTuber enthusiasm going on cuz we
  • 00:03:00
still weren't sure if the flex fabric
  • 00:03:03
could be pulled hot enough to create
  • 00:03:04
    that super lowprofile drain without
  • 00:03:07
flexing so much that it just became flat
  • 00:03:10
under the weight of the concrete but we
  • 00:03:12
decided to put that question to the side
  • 00:03:13
for a moment and just get going get our
  • 00:03:16
hands in there and cut out the melamine
  • 00:03:17
pieces for the rest of the form however
  • 00:03:20
things almost went from bad to worse
  • 00:03:22
when Chris was cutting the base of the
  • 00:03:24
    form

    Jes you all
  • 00:03:36
right just want to jump in here real
  • 00:03:39
quick and explain what happened Chris is
  • 00:03:41
a professional contractor with lots of
  • 00:03:43
experience using power tools but most of
  • 00:03:44
us use battery power tools and he hadn't
  • 00:03:46
used the cord and saw in ages he got
  • 00:03:48
distracted focusing on keeping the cord
  • 00:03:50
out of the way and took his hand off the
  • 00:03:52
tool it's a good reminder that even if
  • 00:03:54
you have a lot of experience you got to
  • 00:03:56
pay attention and keep your mind in the
  • 00:03:57
game when you're using Dangerous Power
  • 00:03:59
Tools a big thanks to Chris too for
  • 00:04:01
letting us share his mistake so others
  • 00:04:03
can learn from it okay since thankfully
  • 00:04:05
everyone still has 10 fingers it's time
  • 00:04:07
to figure out how the heck we're going
  • 00:04:08
to make the mold for this crazy
  • 00:04:11
    invisible sink so after much
  • 00:04:13
deliberation we decided our best chance
  • 00:04:15
was to use clay and sculpt the inverse
  • 00:04:18
shape of each Basin and then cover that
  • 00:04:22
clay with the stretch fabric now the
  • 00:04:24
trick would be sculpting the clay in an
  • 00:04:26
even and gradually increasing slope so
  • 00:04:29
that it ended up up pulling off the
  • 00:04:31
invisible look that we wanted so we
  • 00:04:33
called in expert Tom's wife Carrie is a
  • 00:04:35
sculptor here in Chicago she's done some
  • 00:04:37
really cool stuff around the city
  • 00:04:39
working with this clay was challenging
  • 00:04:41
but a lot of fun you heat it up and
  • 00:04:44
soften it to make it workable and then
  • 00:04:45
we used whatever tools we had on hand to
  • 00:04:48
try to shape it into a symmetrical and
  • 00:04:50
    gradually increasing slope circle around
  • 00:04:53
the center of the drain this is starting
  • 00:04:54
to seem like it's going to work we're
  • 00:04:56
going to put the fabric over that pretty
  • 00:04:58
excited to see how it comes out
  • 00:05:00

  • 00:05:05

  • 00:05:16
CLE when I make concrete sinks I always
  • 00:05:18
get a lot of questions about the drain
  • 00:05:20
and how do you make the drain hole this
  • 00:05:22
is a drain kit made for very small slot
  • 00:05:25
drains Tom you want to sure absolutely
  • 00:05:27
show us what it what it's about what
  • 00:05:29
we're going to do is we're going to
  • 00:05:30
drill some pilot holes and create some
  • 00:05:31
holes for Pins that we can then attach
  • 00:05:34
the slot drain fitting which then has
  • 00:05:35
another fitting on there and then we
  • 00:05:37
take a couple PVC fittings fit over that
  • 00:05:40
that's what's going to hook up to a
  • 00:05:41
standard drain faucet there definitely a
  • 00:05:43
little more refined than what I've used
  • 00:05:45
before and now it's time for another
  • 00:05:47
episode of c talk which is the same as
  • 00:05:50
every episode of c talk I apply a BL PX
  • 00:05:54
to the melon lay down a generous layer
  • 00:05:55
100% silicone caul run a metaled ball to
  • 00:05:57
over all the caul lines metal fed ball
  • 00:05:58
to pushes excess caul to the sides of
  • 00:05:59
leaves a clean line over the seam and
  • 00:06:00
the layer of PX makes it easy to peel
  • 00:06:02
the excess culk away once secures
  • 00:06:03
leaving a perfect culk line and that's
  • 00:06:05
it for this episode of cul
  • 00:06:06
talk and this is not really part of this
  • 00:06:08
video but Chris is making a second sink
  • 00:06:10
here and I wanted to show this because
  • 00:06:12
he brought in some black melamine to
  • 00:06:14
make the form and the black melamine it
  • 00:06:17
looks super super cool think I might
  • 00:06:19
have to find some of this for some of my
  • 00:06:21
    future
  • 00:06:23
builds all right we are back day two
  • 00:06:26
we're going to just put a pinch of this
  • 00:06:28
yellow oxy side pigment which is kind of
  • 00:06:30
like brownish yellow to just give it a
  • 00:06:32
slightly off-white color it's going to
  • 00:06:34
match the rest of stuff in Chris's
  • 00:06:41
bathroom to get a perfectly smooth
  • 00:06:43
surface or spraying on the Face coat
  • 00:06:46
first and then using a brush to pop any
  • 00:06:48
air bubbles in the concrete that might
  • 00:06:50
    be trapped against the FL
  • 00:06:59
    [Music]
  • 00:07:05
while waiting for the Face coat to FM up
  • 00:07:07
a bit we added a back form for the
  • 00:07:10
vertical apron which will make it much
  • 00:07:12
easier to do the backer coat on this
  • 00:07:14
vertical surface I'm mixing up here
  • 00:07:16
Chris is going to spray His Face coat
  • 00:07:18
this is actually his first time he's
  • 00:07:19
learning today which is super cool to
  • 00:07:21
get someone in the the concrete
  • 00:07:23
Community while we're doing that Tom's
  • 00:07:24
going to go mix up the backer coat with
  • 00:07:26
glass fibers that we're going to put
  • 00:07:28
    into our sink

  • 00:08:05
the sinks now it's just uh just a
  • 00:08:07
waiting game very excited to see how
  • 00:08:09
    this one comes
  • 00:08:11
out we're about to head back out to fish
  • 00:08:13
    tone for some concrete
  • 00:08:15
    and hold
  • 00:08:18
    on
  • 00:08:20
hello hello we have been trying to reach
  • 00:08:23
you about your car's warranty do you
  • 00:08:26
hate spam calls and scammer emails well
  • 00:08:28
then you need to listen to this because
  • 00:08:30
there's an easy way to stop them with
  • 00:08:32
today's sponsor incog but before I tell
  • 00:08:34
you how to stop spam you need to
  • 00:08:36
understand why you get it in the first
  • 00:08:38
place data Brokers you see there are
  • 00:08:41
hundreds of these companies out there
  • 00:08:43
that scrape the internet for your
  • 00:08:44
    personally identifying information
  • 00:08:46
compile it and then sell it to the
  • 00:08:48
highest bidder now unfortunately if you
  • 00:08:50
shop online use social media do most of
  • 00:08:53
the things that we all do it's almost
  • 00:08:55
impossible to stop data Brokers from
  • 00:08:57
    finding your personal information this
  • 00:08:59
    includes your name address email
  • 00:09:01
    financial information political
  • 00:09:03
    affiliation account passwords and this
  • 00:09:06
one really shocked me there even ways
  • 00:09:07
they can legally sell your social
  • 00:09:09
    security number what's worse these
  • 00:09:11
    companies aren't that Discerning about
  • 00:09:13
who they'll sell to advertising firms
  • 00:09:15
big Tech and even scammers who can do
  • 00:09:18
some really nasty stuff with your
  • 00:09:19
personal information now the one glimmer
  • 00:09:21
of hope is that these data Brokers are
  • 00:09:23
required to remove your information from
  • 00:09:25
their lists if you request they do so
  • 00:09:28
the problem is there are hundreds of
  • 00:09:29
these companies and as you might guess
  • 00:09:31
they don't make the removal request
  • 00:09:33
process easy this is where incog comes
  • 00:09:36
in after a simple signup process you
  • 00:09:38
give them permission to act on your
  • 00:09:39
behalf and they automate the entire
  • 00:09:41
process of requesting your data be
  • 00:09:43
removed from all these data Brokers I
  • 00:09:45
signed up for incog 5 days ago and just
  • 00:09:48
checking my incog dashboard now I can
  • 00:09:50
see they've sent 123 different data
  • 00:09:54
    broker requests and have already
  • 00:09:55
completed the removal process with 78 of
  • 00:09:58
them incog also G gives me an estimate
  • 00:10:00
of how much time I've saved versus
  • 00:10:02
trying to do all this on my own
  • 00:10:04
currently over 58 hours and counting as
  • 00:10:06
for the IRL effect since signing up I've
  • 00:10:09
noticed a dramatic decrease in spam
  • 00:10:12
calls I used to get four or five daily
  • 00:10:14
and over the last couple days none and
  • 00:10:16
in fact that spam call you saw a minute
  • 00:10:18
ago it was fake because I didn't have
  • 00:10:21
any real ones to record and cogy also
  • 00:10:23
    provides protection against identity
  • 00:10:25
theft and other scams so if you want to
  • 00:10:27
keep your personal information away from
  • 00:10:29
spammers and scammers head to incognit

days later now and we are on the road
  • 00:10:47
heading back out to Crystal Lake and it
  • 00:10:49
is concrete Christmas day we're getting
  • 00:10:51
to demold everything super excited to
  • 00:10:53
    see how this all turns
  • 00:10:55
    out feel
  • 00:10:58
ready all right so these are looking
  • 00:11:01
pretty good on the underside next up
  • 00:11:03
here we're going to use the form as a
  • 00:11:04
guy just grind down on the side there
  • 00:11:07
grind the top here so we get a nice
  • 00:11:09
clean Edge and then we can take it out
  • 00:11:11
    of the
  • 00:11:23
for while we're moving these inside just
  • 00:11:26
want to take a second and remind you
  • 00:11:27
guys to go check out Channel sponsor
  • 00:11:29
area at work today I'm rocking this new
  • 00:11:31
Aviator style jacket and also got the
  • 00:11:33
stylish composite toe shoes because well
  • 00:11:35
we're moving concrete chunks around so
  • 00:11:37
check out the links in the description
  • 00:11:38
for these and all my area at work
  • 00:11:40
favorites now let's get on concrete
  • 00:11:42
    Christmas
  • 00:11:45
time oh it's looking pretty nice like a
  • 00:11:48
Sandy color like you're going for there
  • 00:11:55
    [Music]
  • 00:12:03
    I can't see
  • 00:12:04
it oh yeah baby all right I think that's
  • 00:12:09
going to work from right here it looks
  • 00:12:11
almost like there's no drain but it's
  • 00:12:13
going to be enough that'll flow I
  • 00:12:19
think we're happy Next Step we're going
  • 00:12:22
to do a little acid but someone was
  • 00:12:25
looking for you acid wash that is
  • 00:12:32
    [Music]
  • 00:12:42
she felt there was no time to be lost
  • 00:12:45
she was shrinking rapid so she to work
  • 00:12:49
at right now we're going to show you how
  • 00:12:52
you make a hole for a faucet in a
  • 00:12:54
concrete countertop be the same thing
  • 00:12:56
you would do for granite or marble lots
  • 00:12:58
of people ask about this Tom's going to
  • 00:12:59
man the uh the drill attachment to the
  • 00:13:02
angle grinder you got this doughnut to
  • 00:13:04
kind of keep the water in we showed that
  • 00:13:06
process on Chris's other sink just
  • 00:13:07
    because well it's a lot simpler he's
  • 00:13:09
going to wait till he has the actual
  • 00:13:11
Faucets in hand on the other sink just
  • 00:13:13
to make sure it lines up straight so
  • 00:13:15
he'll be doing that exact same process
  • 00:13:17
on his own for the sealer we're using
  • 00:13:19
fish Stones U seal which is my personal
  • 00:13:21
go-to for concrete super durable we just
  • 00:13:24
roll it on with a roller keep it wet and
  • 00:13:27
uh yeah pretty simple to to get it going
  • 00:13:29
    going pretty
  • 00:13:30
    [Music]
  • 00:13:37
quick all right so we got the first coat
  • 00:13:40
of sealer on we're going to do a couple
  • 00:13:41
more but the next time I'm going to see
  • 00:13:43
you guys is going to be up in Wisconsin
  • 00:13:45
    at Chris's Airbnb it's a few months
  • 00:13:47
later and before we head out to the
  • 00:13:48
Airbnb to check out the finished sink I
  • 00:13:50
want to talk about that $30,000 price in
  • 00:13:53
one other thing so first I got to give
  • 00:13:55
some credit where credits du the way I
  • 00:13:57
originally found out about the sink was
  • 00:13:58
another fan who' reached out to me and
  • 00:14:00
they were in Florida I think it was back
  • 00:14:02
in 2021 when I was in the midst of
  • 00:14:04
redoing this whole building so I really
  • 00:14:06
didn't have time to take on projects for
  • 00:14:08
anyone else so I had to turn down that
  • 00:14:10
project but to that viewer if you're
  • 00:14:12
watching I just want to thank you you
  • 00:14:13
were the one I got the idea from it
  • 00:14:15
worked out like it did because Chris's
  • 00:14:17
Airbnb is local so now let's talk about
  • 00:14:19
that $30,000 price tag did Kim K get
  • 00:14:22
ripped off or is it worth it well you
  • 00:14:24
guys know I did a video on $110,000
  • 00:14:27
    concrete countertops a while back
  • 00:14:29
and I certainly believe that concrete
  • 00:14:31
Artisan work is worth quite a bit of
  • 00:14:34
money it's very difficult labor it takes
  • 00:14:36
skill and time to pull off properly so
  • 00:14:38
even though there were only about $500
  • 00:14:41
in materials that went into making the
  • 00:14:43
sink yes it's going to be worth quite a
  • 00:14:46
bit more than that $30,000 though
  • 00:14:48
honestly that feels like a bit much now
  • 00:14:51
she mentioned something about why it
  • 00:14:52
cost so much eight versions of this
  • 00:14:55
prototype sink was made now we did this
  • 00:14:58
in three days on the first try and I'll
  • 00:15:00
let you guys be the judge but I think we
  • 00:15:01
nailed the look pretty spoton so should
  • 00:15:04
she have paid for the labor to do this
  • 00:15:06
eight times to make eight prototypes I
  • 00:15:08
don't know if I were to make something
  • 00:15:09
like this for a client installed it
  • 00:15:11
would probably run somewhere in the $5
  • 00:15:13
to $20,000 range so not a complete riff
  • 00:15:15
off but I do think that price was was
  • 00:15:18
pretty high I know you guys will have
  • 00:15:19
thoughts so leave a comment and let me
  • 00:15:21
know without further Ado let's head out
  • 00:15:23
to the Airbnb and check out the sink
  • 00:15:27
    [Music]
  • 00:15:29
    keep your eyes on the
  • 00:15:33
horizon I was looking to belong when i'
  • 00:15:36
    already found my
  • 00:15:41
    [Music]
  • 00:15:45
    home
  • 00:15:48
wow okay this is better in person than
  • 00:15:51
uh in the photos I saw it's huge open
  • 00:15:56
and then just boom open to the Wi
  • 00:15:59
view of the forest the lake beyond that
  • 00:16:02
really really cool so before we reveal
  • 00:16:05
the sink I want to do a mini tour of
  • 00:16:06
    this
  • 00:16:08
Airbnb this is the upper deck here
  • 00:16:11
there's a really cool view here of the
  • 00:16:13
forest they're actually working still on
  • 00:16:15
    the the exterior Landscaping you're
  • 00:16:18
going to have a path that leads from the
  • 00:16:20
house all the way down to the lake then
  • 00:16:23
there'll be another path on the side
  • 00:16:24
that leads to the cedar sauna we're
  • 00:16:25
going to check the uh the downstairs
  • 00:16:28
    area out next
  • 00:16:31
just pit stop on the way down you got
  • 00:16:34
two bedrooms here it looks like both
  • 00:16:36
like really good size with Kings then we
  • 00:16:38
got this bathroom here which is got this
  • 00:16:41
cool little I guess this is like a
  • 00:16:44
sitting tub this is the tiniest bathtub
  • 00:16:47
I've seen but super cool and over here
  • 00:16:50
is the second sink I actually hadn't
  • 00:16:52
seen this one Chris actually went and
  • 00:16:54
made this on his own and it came out
  • 00:16:57
super cool for his first solo sink any
  • 00:16:59
of you guys are thinking of trying some
  • 00:17:01
gfrc to make some really cool sinks
  • 00:17:03
    countertops whatever I highly recommend
  • 00:17:05
it because well here's proof that with a
  • 00:17:06
little determination you can get some
  • 00:17:08
    super high-end results now moving
  • 00:17:10
downstairs oh this is such a cool
  • 00:17:13
hangout spot so it looks like coming
  • 00:17:14
down he's got like a little gym they've
  • 00:17:16
got this like full arcade machine over
  • 00:17:19
here there's a second like bar with a
  • 00:17:22
big TV little Pub table a cool little
  • 00:17:25
hangout area I want to come back with
  • 00:17:27
like a bunch of friends for like a
  • 00:17:28
weekend at this place this is so cool
  • 00:17:30
then over here he's got full game room
  • 00:17:33
foosball pool table huh I don't know see
  • 00:17:35
if I tv anywhere M look
  • 00:17:39
up oh okay okay I see you Chris got a
  • 00:17:45
remote it's pretty cool we're now out on
  • 00:17:48
the lower deck and there's this Big
  • 00:17:50
Cedar hot tub here really beautiful
  • 00:17:54

  • 00:17:55

  • 00:18:09

  • 00:18:13
so be doing a little editing right there
  • 00:18:15
editing this video and across the hall
  • 00:18:18
here you've got another bedroom which is
  • 00:18:20
also really cool kind of like a Japanese
  • 00:18:23
lowprofile room before we check out the
  • 00:18:25
Kim K sink in the last bathroom I want
  • 00:18:27
to give a quick shout out to Chris who
  • 00:18:29
took a chance on this put it in its
  • 00:18:31
