The main character, Ragnvaldr, part of this crew, faces numerous challenges including cannibalism for survival, and subsequent horrors in Vinland with deities and monsters. • 00:00:03
    Hey!
  • 00:00:07
Quick warning before we continue. This is  part two of three of the complete timeline of
  • 00:00:11
Fear & Hunger. If you haven't seen part one, yet  I'll leave a link in the description below.
  • 00:00:15
If you have seen part one already
  • 00:00:16
(or wants to watch this one without watching the previous one)
  • 00:00:19
we'll continue from where we left off.
  • 00:00:21
Last video I said that I would tell you about the mysterious man of the prophecies, and I plan on doing just that. He's Le'garde, if you didn't know.
  • 00:00:29
But right now we're just before the events of the first game,  so, I want to give you all an introduction of the
  • 00:00:34
main characters first before talking about  him specifically. So, without further ado.
  • 00:00:41
The year 1577. The winters of Europa grew colder  each passing year. Because of this a great hunger
  • 00:00:48
had spread throughout all the north. The finest  man of the capital of Oldegård decided to sail
  • 00:00:53
to the west in search of food and riches. Their  destination was Vinland, a place their ancestors
  • 00:00:59
talked about centuries ago. In that crew was  Ragnvaldr. As a man born with the Tormented Soul,
  • 00:01:04
his life was destined to be one full of hardships.
  • 00:01:07
The crew traveled for months with no end. Some died of weakness while others  embraced the depths of the cold sea.
  • 00:01:14
The remaining survivors had to resort to eat the corpses  of the fallen to survive.
  • 00:01:18
And after finally reaching Vinland they were met with horrors beyond imagination.
  • 00:01:23
Grey clouds floated above the sky, the soil of the land consisted of minerals that  rejected sunlight making a everything black and
  • 00:01:31
hard to measure its depths. The trees and plants  adapted the same features as well, and even worse
  • 00:01:37
the land stored ancient deities and monsters never  once heard of. Some members of the crew lost their
  • 00:01:43
minds after witnessing its horrors while others pillaged anything of worth as fast as possible before leaving the dreadful place.
  • 00:01:50
Ragnvaldr and the remaining survivors returned to Oldegård.
  • 00:01:54
They came to understand why the name Vinland, it meant  "Wine Land" for the sheer amount of wine needed
  • 00:01:58
to make one forget about the terrifying place.  During the trip an ancient artifact was brought
  • 00:02:03
from the dark continent, it was the Cube of the  Depths. Ragnvaldr knew it was mistake to bring it,
  • 00:02:09
but unfortunately he had no say on the matter. And just a few years later the bad omens proved to be true.
  • 00:02:17
In the year 1590 Ragnvaldr returned  from one of his many hunting trips, just to be
  • 00:02:23
met with his worst fears. His village had been  attacked and it was in flames, not even his wife
  • 00:02:28
and child were spared. And even worse than that,  the raiders stole the Cube of the Depths. A dying
  • 00:02:35
friend described the army behind the raid, it was  the Knights of the Midnight Sun and its captain,
  • 00:02:40
Le'garde. Ragnvaldr would not let this stand.  Burning with hatred, he immediately left the
  • 00:02:47
village to get his revenge. His target would soon  meet the ire of the future God of Ultra-violence.
  • 00:02:57
D'arce was born a daughter of a noble  family of the kingdom of Rondon, the Cataliss.
  • 00:03:01
From an early age she was trained  to be a Holy Knight of Alll-mer. She endured all
  • 00:03:06
sorts of harsh treatments during that process,  one that was not easy, but she kept bearing it
  • 00:03:11
all because she believed she could protect the  people of her country as a knight. Time passed
  • 00:03:15
and D'arce proved to be a talented fighter. Only,  it was a shame when she found out and the royalty
  • 00:03:20
of the Kingdom of Rondon did not acted out what  it preached. All the rewards from the wars fell
  • 00:03:25
into the laps of the small elite of nobles who sat  comfortably behind the castle walls. The Kingdom
  • 00:03:30
kept expanding its borders though, making slaves  of the women and slaying the men. After learning
  • 00:03:35
this D'arce's devotion was shaken, she could  not keep up doing this even though breaking
  • 00:03:40
the oath would bring great shame to her family  that demanded her to keep being a knight.
  • 00:03:44
Her fate changed when she met the captain of a small  mercenary army that shared the same resentment
  • 00:03:49
against the nobility of Rondon, the leader of the  Knights of the Midnight Sun, Le'garde.
  • 00:03:54
A man of humble origins who gathered common folk around  him with his immense charisma and otherworldly stature.
  • 00:03:59
Le'garde seduced D'arce and with his  warm words and he asked her to leave it all
  • 00:04:04
behind and join him. And so, she did.
  • 00:04:06
Due to her skill she was given a high position in the army
  • 00:04:10
of the Knights of the Midnight Sun. That fit well  with her natural leadership skills as a bear of
  • 00:04:15
the Dominating Soul. The Knights of the Midnight  Sun kept growing fast in the western regions,
  • 00:04:20
both in size and influence. The Kingdom of Rondon  would use the mercenary army to its benefits at
  • 00:04:24
first, but with time they started to see them  as a potential threat to their sovereignty.
  • 00:04:29
Things changed when something also changed  within Le'garde, he developed an obsession
  • 00:04:34
with the occult. This gave D'arce ominous feelings  and haunted her nights with nightmares, but she
  • 00:04:40
stayed at his side through all of it. Until  one day things got out of hand when Le'garde,
  • 00:04:46
seemingly out of nowhere, decided to raid the  northern capital of Oldegård, killing everyone who
  • 00:04:50
stood between him and the artifact they possessed.  Later that raid was used an excuse by the Kingdom
  • 00:04:56
of Rondon to turn the population against Le'garde.  The Knights of the Midnight Sun were attacked by
  • 00:05:01
Rondon and D'arce was one of the few to survive.  Le'garde was imprisoned and taken as a captive
  • 00:05:06
for political reasons, and sent to the war prison  known as The Dungeons of Fear and Hunger. D'arce
  • 00:05:11
knew she hadn't much time before Le'garde was  sentenced to death, so she rushed as fast as she
  • 00:05:16
could to the dungeons to save her captain and her  beloved. And she would do so no matter the cost.
  • 00:05:24
Enki was born into a family of dark priests along  with his twin sister. It was a common tradition
  • 00:05:29
that only the eldest child would inherit the  legacy and the rites of the cult. But since
  • 00:05:32
he shared the title of eldest with his sister,  the two of them were forced into a death match
  • 00:05:37
using ritual daggers to fight. Unfortunately  for Enki, he was born with a fragile body and
  • 00:05:42
was overpowered by his sister. She had her dagger  on his neck at some point, but hesitated before dealing the final blow.
  • 00:05:48
Now, at this point Enki's  story comes to split. He either took opportunity
  • 00:05:51
from the mercy his sister showed him and stabbed  her in the spine as she was walking away, later
  • 00:05:56
he revived her using necromancy and turned her  into a ghoul as part of the ritual for becoming
  • 00:06:01
a dark priest. Or he refused to kill his sister  and was thrown into underground well, left to
  • 00:06:06
rot to the death. He survived the punishment  by learning the language of insects, turning
  • 00:06:11
them into his servants and making them help him  escape. Enki was born with the Enlightened Soul,
  • 00:06:15
he was destined to forever seek knowledge and the  secrets hidden from most. Either way killing his
  • 00:06:20
sister or sparring her, he dedicates his life to  the teachings of the dark priests anyway. Spending
  • 00:06:25
his days learning about the gods in all fields of  knowledge. Enki proved himself to be a prodigy and
  • 00:06:29
was acknowledge by the top scholars of the time.  He was granted pass to the great libraries of the
  • 00:06:33
Kingdom of Rondon. But even after having access to  all knowledge of history and science of the time,
  • 00:06:38
Enki felt he was reaching a breaking point.  Nothing he learned seemed to make him closer
  • 00:06:42
to enlightenment. He couldn't achieve great  conclusions or understand the Great Scheme of
  • 00:06:45
Things. Enki gave up and decided to offer his life  to Alll-mer. But right before being crucified,
  • 00:06:51
the new goddess Nilvan showed him visions of  the prophesied man, Le'garde, and how he was
  • 00:06:57
meant for greatness. Enki knew he had to learn  more, so he told the priests to let him down and
  • 00:07:01
went searching for the man. He knew Le'garde was  sent to the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger. And so,
  • 00:07:06
he packed his things and decided to follow  the path towards true enlightenment.
  • 00:07:14
While still just a child Cahara was abandoned  in the streets of Jettetiah. He was born with
  • 00:07:18
the Endless Soul, a soul that made him yearn  for freedom and made him spark with creativity.
  • 00:07:23
Creativity had quickly put to use, as he resorted  for a life of crime in order to survive. As Cahara
  • 00:07:28
grew older he took part in various mercenary  armies and became an expert sellsword, to the
  • 00:07:33
point that when his brigade suffered an ambush  attack, Cahara was one of the few who survived.
  • 00:07:37
The mercenary lifestyle led him to settle down  in the Kingdom of Rondon, a place where silver
  • 00:07:42
was easier to get for the services he provided.  There he fell in love with a woman named Celeste,
  • 00:07:47
a slave and a prostitute who worked at the red  light district. Things seemed to get better for
  • 00:07:52
Cahara, even if just a bit, but there was still  something he worried about.
  • 00:07:57
Celeste was pregnant and he didn't want to child to go through the same harsh life he did. Cahara wished there was
  • 00:08:02
a way he could buy Celeste's freedom and provide  for his family. And not much time later he was
  • 00:08:08
granted his wish. One day the officials of Rondon  themselves gave Cahara an ominous task. He needed
  • 00:08:13
to go to the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger, a place  built by Rondon itself, and rescue Le'garde from there.
  • 00:08:19
For some reason they needed an outside  sword like Cahara to infiltrate their very own stronghold.
  • 00:08:23
Cahara knew something was off,  he heard the rumors about the place before,
  • 00:08:28
but Celeste's child was about to be born. The  reward was too high to pass, he couldn't let
  • 00:08:33
the chance slip away. And so, Cahara packed  his things and left for his last mission.
  • 00:08:44
Now, we finally finished introducing all the  four playable characters. But there's still one
  • 00:08:49
important character left to talk about, Le'garde.  I left him for last for reason, you see, I think
  • 00:08:54
he might be the main character of Fear & Hunger  1. After all, all the other characters and plot
  • 00:08:59
threads revolve around him. Everything that leads  to the game we get to play is because of him. So,
  • 00:09:04
let's do this for one last time and let me tell  you the tale of Le'garde, the prophesied one.
  • 00:09:13
Le'garde was a man born with humble origins, one  of villagers and simple farmers.
  • 00:09:18
But that's how we get to know about his past, really. In the last section I've introduced the soul type of every
  • 00:09:22
character, Rag had the Tormented Soul, D'arce  the Dominating Soul, Enki the Enlightened Soul
  • 00:09:27
and Cahara the Endless Soul. The soul type of a  character is dictated by the time they were born,
  • 00:09:31
much like the star signs of the real world. They seem to be related to the kind of life you will live and everyone has one.
  • 00:09:37
Well, except for the Le'garde. You see, we know Le'garde has no soul.
  • 00:09:42
That fact is probably linked with his  role in the prophecies and that the game states
  • 00:09:45
in multiple occasions that there is something  different about him. While I have some theories
  • 00:09:49
of what that could be I'll leave the topic for  another video. So if you want to see me do a
  • 00:09:53
future video about him do me the whole YouTuber  thing right? Like and subscribe. Done? Okay,
  • 00:09:58
back to the lore. Le'garde found the mercenary  army of the Knights of the Midnight Sun with
  • 00:10:01
the approval of the common folk. They had a lot  of success and became very popular during their
  • 00:10:05
time. The thing is one day the new goddess Nilvan  started visiting Le'garde in his dreams. Remember
  • 00:10:11
back in D'arce intro when I said that Le'garde  developed an obsession with the occult. Most
  • 00:10:15
likely it was Nilvan's doing. She visited  him multiple times in his dreams and they had a very...
  • 00:10:21
wet relationship (let's put it that way).
  • 00:10:23
To the point they even had a child, the Girl.
  • 00:10:26
Nilvan knew her Reign and the era  of The Fellowship was close to end and she
  • 00:10:29
was desperately looking for a way to prolong it.  She started her relationship with Le'garde because
  • 00:10:34
she believed that he was "the key for eternal  existence", a topic that will be important for
  • 00:10:38
the next video. So she wasn't doing all of that  out of her good will. You see, the game character
  • 00:10:42
try to imply that Nilvan was a benevolent goddess  but if we stop to analyze what she actually did it
  • 00:10:48
doesn't seem to be that way. She was most likely  the one to tell Le'garde about the cube that was
  • 00:10:51
in possession of the Oldegård and how he needed  it to visit the past Ma'habre and sit in the
  • 00:10:56
Throne of Ascension. She also wanted the Girl to continue from where she left off, letting her grow starving and afraid inside the dungeons.
  • 00:11:02
While a lot about Nilvan is just speculation on my part,
  • 00:11:05
what isn't speculation is the fact that Le'garde  planned his own imprisonment. He made the attack
  • 00:11:10
against Oldegård brutal the way he did because  he wanted the backlash that would come from it,
  • 00:11:14
causing him to be sent to the dungeons along  with the Cube of the Depths. He planned his
  • 00:11:18
death sentence and the torture he went through.  He even seduced a woman named High Priestess
  • 00:11:22
Selene in order to be sent to the lower levels  of the dungeon. All for his great plan to sit in
  • 00:11:27
the throne of Ascension and become a new god, one  that would fulfill the prophecies told about him.
  • 00:11:36
Let's talk about the Dungeon of Fear and  Hunger itself. Like I said last video,
  • 00:11:40
the dungeons were built at top the ruins of  the ancient city of Ma'habre. It was a prison
  • 00:11:44
used by Rondon in war times, but eventually things  started to go wrong...
  • 00:11:51
Madness seemed to spread to everyone.
  • 00:11:54
Under dark creatures came crawling  from the depths.
  • 00:11:56
The darkness was so thick even torches couldn't completely illuminate it.
  • 00:12:00
The screams of the prisoners being tortured filled the halls.
  • 00:12:04
Dark priests were given permission to  perform blood rituals and human sacrifices.
  • 00:12:10
Some people fell into madness while practicing rituals  of Sylvian and Gro-goroth, trying to not be consumed by the darkness.
  • 00:12:17
Bad men were turned into  atrocious monsters.
  • 00:12:20
And good men were turned into even worse bloodthirsty abominations.
  • 00:12:25
    It was hell.
  • 00:12:28
And while I could talk for hours about the horrors our characters witnessed there,
  • 00:12:31
I figured it would take too long for this video?
  • 00:12:34
And I think it's best for you to find them for yourself. Oh, one  thing that's very important to mention for this video.
  • 00:12:39
The reason for the darkness in the dungeons  is that there is traces of an Old god sleeping
  • 00:12:43
under it, the God of the Depths. Represented  by the ninith sigil we find in the clock. Just
  • 00:12:48
the presence of their traces was enough to  spread darkness and corruption all the way
  • 00:12:52
to the surface. And who is that god? We actually  don't know much. He's a mostly forgotten god who
  • 00:12:58
worshiped by the forsaken and also forgotten. This  got is to a topic for a future video where I plan
  • 00:13:03
to talk about him more in...
  • 00:13:04
    Depth.
  • 00:13:06
But for now, let's continue with the timeline shall we?
  • 00:13:11
There are already many good videos of people making  their own version of what happened in the game,
  • 00:13:15
so instead of making my own headcanon here I'll  give you the tools so you can make one yourself.
  • 00:13:20
I'll go first by what we know is canon and then what probably happened. And with it you can decide for yourself your own order of events.
  • 00:13:27
From now  on there will be spoilers for the endings of the first game first game, so keep that in mind.
  • 00:13:31
Let's get a few things out of the way first. The members of The Fellowship were defeated.
  • 00:13:35
Chambara, Valteil and  Francóis where slain. Nilvan, on the other hand,
  • 00:13:39
offered her soul to the character willing to help  her daughter reach the Heart of Darkness, a place
  • 00:13:43
inside the God of the Depths. Now we can finally  talk about what endings we know are canon. First
  • 00:13:49
Enki's S ending. Most of you already know about  it, so we'll go quickly through this. Enki meets
  • 00:13:54
Nosramus in the dungeons who teaches him about  the Great Scheme of Things and that the Throne of
  • 00:13:57
Ascension is a trap. Nosramus incentivizes Enki to sit  in the throne to see the reflection of himself as
  • 00:14:02
a new god. But to protect Enki from being seduced  by the power Nosramus gave him the Spirit Anchor,
  • 00:14:07
an ancient relic that would keep his soul  from being tainted. Enki sat on the throne,
  • 00:14:11
but returned for the Void. Taking the Great  Libraries of Ma'habre as his own. He took care
  • 00:14:16
of the new gods that still resided in the city as  well as learned the secrets for a prolonged life,
  • 00:14:20
becoming the most powerful mortal to exist. And  with the enlignment he achieved he would write a
  • 00:14:25
series of books dissecting the true nature of the Old gods these are the Skin Bibles we find in the second game.
  • 00:14:30
The second ending we know  happened for sure is Ragnvaldr's S ending.
  • 00:14:34
Rag basically kills almost every evil creature  inside the dungeons and leaves with a Cube
  • 00:14:38
of the Depths in his hands and Moonless  by his side. After leaving the dungeons
  • 00:14:42
Rag dedicated his life to eliminate all traces of  Darkness that existed hiding from the eyes of the
  • 00:14:46
oblivious world. He was responsible for making  most believe that monsters like the Bigfoot,
  • 00:14:50
Skin Walkers and Wendigos are all myths since  they never seen one of them before. After all,
  • 00:14:56
most of them are dead by now. He also created his  own clan of hunters that would follow his legacy
  • 00:15:01
for the upcoming centuries. The beasts that he  hunted down called him "The God of Ultra-violence".
  • 00:15:07
    Pretty dope name I'd say.
  • 00:15:09
Now, there's a lot of discussion surrounding D'arce's endings.
  • 00:15:13
No one knows for certain which one of them happened. It  could be either her S ending, the C-2 ending or
  • 00:15:20
both of them. To keep it short, in her S ending  D'arce finds Le'garde dead in his cell and inside
  • 00:15:26
Ma'habre she learns a secret dark magic to  resurrect him as a bloody thirsty ghoul.
  • 00:15:31
We don't know if this actually happened but if it did  she didn't find Le'garde dead once she came to the
  • 00:15:36
dungeons. There are few dialogues by a headless  guy in termina that kind of proves that Le'garde
  • 00:15:40
was alive. So if D'arce's S ending happened, keep  it in mind he must have died after being rescued,
  • 00:15:46
only later was revived with dark magic. So what  about the other ending?
  • 00:15:52
In the C-2 ending (that might be canon) Le'garde reaches the Throne of  Ascension and becomes a new god. After coming back
  • 00:15:57
he would fulfill the prophecies and become a great  god who would rescue humanity out of the darkness.
  • 00:16:02
If only the next ending we'll talk about, ending  A, didn't happen. In this ending the traces of the
  • 00:16:08
God of Depths are killed. The path to the Heart  of Darkness opens and the Girl is taken there.
  • 00:16:15
Inside it she absorbs the traces of the dead Old  god and emerges as the God of Fear and Hunger.
  • 00:16:33
We know for a fact that this ending happened, but  we don't know exactly who helped her get there.
  • 00:16:38
The most likely candidate is Cahara. The reason  for that is that there is no mention of him Fear
  • 00:16:43
& Hunger 2 and from his dialogues we can get a few  hints that it was probably him. He must have felt
  • 00:16:49
sorry for the little Girl and decided to help her,  after all the only reason he came to this forsaken
  • 00:16:54
dungeons was to provide for his own family. So in  the end Cahara has that dad energy going for him.
  • 00:17:08
Unfortunately for Cahara he never made out,  that Darkness became his grave.
  • 00:17:15
The Girl, now ascended god, the God of Fear and Hunger,  spared Cahara from the darkness of the age
  • 00:17:22
that would follow her ascension. Gifting him  with a peaceful death. She ushered a new age,
  • 00:17:29
a period so full of fear and hunger  that it came to be known as...
  • 00:17:36
Eventually Le'garde returned from the Void as  a new god but he failed miserably at fulfilling
  • 00:17:43
the prophecy he was so desperate into making  a reality. The reason for his failure was none
  • 00:17:49
other than his own daughter, the God of Fear  and Hunger herself.
  • 00:17:56
When the God of Fear and Hunger ascended she did not answer prayers nor promised salvation for the masses,
  • 00:18:03
instead she was a manifestation of their own misery. Giving  hardships for the world as her blessing.
  • 00:18:10
People died in thousands to the deity, but that was  not the end of it. For fear motivated people,
  • 00:18:17
while hunger kept them moving forward. She  freed Humanity from the stagnation they had
  • 00:18:22
experience so far by forcing it to rise up to  the challenge. She kept making things worse
  • 00:18:28
until she was finally bested by  humanity's own strength. One that
  • 00:18:33
did not rely on the gods for help and one  that did not came from the Old World Order.
  • 00:18:40
Even when the Yellow King tried to guide humans,  they had no need for another savior. For they
  • 00:18:44
had already found one in their cruel deity.  But Le'garde would not give up that easily,
  • 00:18:49
his failed attempts spired the man  into madness and his methods became
  • 00:18:53
more and more violent as a result. But his  attempts were to no avail and Le'garde went
  • 00:18:58
down in history as the villainous Yellow King  of Madness. Falling into darkness of oblivion,
  • 00:19:04
only to eventually return with  the new identity in modern times.
  • 00:19:09
Thanks for making to the end of part two. If  you want to know more about the Cruel Age,
