00:00:00
hey friends what's up welcome back to my
00:00:02
channel if you're new here my name is
00:00:03
Molly I'm a gut health specialized
00:00:05
registered dietitian who recovered from
00:00:08
severe IBS and acid reflux and in 2020 I
00:00:11
posted a video about how I cured my acid
00:00:13
reflux at the time I was studying
00:00:15
nutritional science at Boston University
00:00:17
and I was really passionate about
00:00:20
digestive health and I realized that
00:00:23
there's just not a ton of support for
00:00:24
people with acid reflux and IBS after
00:00:27
medications have been given and may or
00:00:30
may not have been helpful so I'm going
00:00:32
to be sharing you know my journey with
00:00:34
acid reflux what has helped me heal and
00:00:37
this is kind of like a revised video of
00:00:39
that first video that went viral and has
00:00:42
helped a lot of people the messages I
00:00:44
get from that video have been amazing
00:00:46
I'm so happy that that helped you I'm so
00:00:47
happy I decided to share that and so
00:00:49
this is going to be what really helped
00:00:51
me heal looking back as well as a couple
00:00:53
things that I didn't realize at the time
00:00:55
helped me heal and then at the very end
00:00:57
I'm going to also share how you can find
00:00:59
out exactly exactly what I did step by
00:01:01
step and implement this in your own life
00:01:04
so I'm excited that you're here if
00:01:06
you're struggling with acid reflux I
00:01:08
feel for you I know how frightening and
00:01:10
anxiety provoking and scary dealing with
00:01:13
acid reflux is it's really it's
00:01:16
isolating and confusing and there's a
00:01:18
lot of misinformation on the internet
00:01:19
about it and once you've been given ppis
00:01:22
if they help you know great but we're
00:01:25
not given a lot of guidance on how to
00:01:27
eventually wean off of them if the ppis
00:01:29
don't help then we're sort of left with
00:01:31
well maybe you can try a different
00:01:33
medication or maybe you can increase
00:01:34
your ppis but I want you to know that
00:01:37
there are other ways to treat acid
00:01:39
reflux you know there are ways to get
00:01:42
real symptom relief even if you have a
00:01:43
hiatal hernia even if you have a lower
00:01:46
esophageal finger issue there are
00:01:47
nutritional and lifestyle strategies to
00:01:50
help you heal and I have dedicated my
00:01:52
career to help people heal from acid
00:01:54
reflux and IBS but I would say the
00:01:57
majority of my clients have acid reflux
00:01:58
or have healed from Acid ref bucks and
00:02:00
you can read my testimonials down below
00:02:02
they're super inspiring and I hope that
00:02:04
they inspire you to keep going in your
00:02:06
gut healing Journey so if you're curious
00:02:08
about my clients in my work you can
00:02:10
definitely check that out down below in
00:02:12
the description
00:02:13
so let's dive in to how my acid reflux
00:02:17
in IBS kind of all started so I went
00:02:20
through a really stressful time in my
00:02:23
undergraduate degree at Boston
00:02:24
University it was a really difficult
00:02:26
transition to Tran I transferred from a
00:02:29
different University and the academics
00:02:31
were really really challenging I was
00:02:33
under a lot of chronic stress I was
00:02:35
under eating for sure I had some
00:02:38
disordered eating habits and I wasn't
00:02:40
really taking care of my nervous system
00:02:42
at all I had this I had nervous system
00:02:44
dysregulation my nervous system was
00:02:47
Haywire I was always in fight or flight
00:02:50
and when we are in fight or flight we
00:02:53
cannot digest our food so the
00:02:55
fight-or-flight nervous system the
00:02:57
sympathetic nervous system is on the
00:02:58
other side of the parasympathetic
00:03:00
nervous system or the rest and digest
00:03:02
nervous system and you may have heard
00:03:04
these terms before but what does it
00:03:05
really mean
00:03:06
so when we're in a state of fight or
00:03:08
flight when we're stressed the majority
00:03:10
of the time our body gets the signal
00:03:12
that we are in a dangerous time or that
00:03:16
we are in a stressed environment in
00:03:18
digestion isn't as important so it sends
00:03:21
our blood flow to our limbs digestive
00:03:24
enzyme production can slow down and
00:03:27
stomach acid production can increase or
00:03:29
decrease depending on the person
00:03:30
basically your digestive system kind of
00:03:33
goes Haywire in order to support
00:03:35
digestion we have to be in that rest and
00:03:38
digest side of the nervous system so
00:03:39
it's a parasympathetic side of the
00:03:41
nervous system
00:03:42
this is where our body feels calm feels
00:03:45
safe it can digest our food well and I'm
00:03:47
sure if you have IBS or acid reflux you
00:03:49
have noticed a correlation with stress
00:03:52
in your symptoms
00:03:53
it's definitely it's in a big factor to
00:03:57
consider and it's well researched as
00:03:59
well there's a lot of research about the
00:04:02
connection between anxiety and acid
00:04:04
reflux and that worsened anxiety is
00:04:06
correlated with worse gerd worse acid
00:04:09
reflux which gerd by the way
00:04:11
gastroesophageal reflux disease is
00:04:13
repeated acid reflux and that is what I
00:04:16
had and what a lot of my clients have
00:04:18
when they come to me so I started to get
00:04:20
really bad IBS symptoms I would probably
00:04:22
go a week without going to the bathroom
00:04:24
I had terrible IBS constipation and then
00:04:27
it would flip-flop to diarrhea which is
00:04:29
actually really common to have that
00:04:31
flip-flop and I was really struggling
00:04:35
with my digestion the acid reflux
00:04:37
actually came second and it started slow
00:04:41
like I would notice a little bit to
00:04:43
heartburn notice a bitter taste in my
00:04:45
mouth especially in the morning
00:04:46
sometimes I would have you know sinus
00:04:48
issues or nausea a little bit of pain
00:04:51
right underneath the rib cage the
00:04:54
symptoms of acid reflux some of them and
00:04:57
it got a little bit worse as time went
00:04:59
on when it happened that really pushed
00:05:02
me off the iceberg and was kind of the
00:05:04
thing that like thrusted me into severe
00:05:07
gerd was a food poisoning event and this
00:05:10
is actually really common is called
00:05:13
post-infectious IBS post-infectious IBS
00:05:16
is when your IBS symptoms get worse
00:05:18
after a foodborne illness or an
00:05:20
infection I have a lot of clients that
00:05:22
come to me after foodborne illnesses or
00:05:23
after covid with worsened symptoms
00:05:26
and after I had that foodborne illness I
00:05:30
had terrible acid reflux my digestive
00:05:32
symptoms were even worse and I was
00:05:35
constantly having regurgitation
00:05:37
heartburn throat pain chest pain
00:05:41
sometimes difficulty breathing and I
00:05:44
would wake up in the middle of the night
00:05:46
and just vomit because of acid reflux it
00:05:48
was very severe and I was losing even
00:05:50
more weight even though I was trying to
00:05:52
you know recover at that point and
00:05:54
trying to increase my nutrition it was
00:05:55
really difficult I went to the hospital
00:05:57
a few times and if you have been there a
00:06:00
lot of my clients you know come to me
00:06:02
with similar symptoms and so I really
00:06:03
understand how hard that is and how
00:06:06
scary that is and how you're given like
00:06:09
no support by the GI adopters or if you
00:06:12
have been given support by your GI
00:06:13
doctor that's great but more often than
00:06:14
not I notice people are not getting out
00:06:16
of good support after that I went to the
00:06:20
GI doctor and had a ton of different
00:06:23
tests done I had an endoscopy
00:06:26
um I had you know different assessments
00:06:28
for different types of digestive issues
00:06:31
I had a lot of lab work done everything
00:06:33
was normal
00:06:35
my endoscopy showed a little bit of
00:06:37
irritation but I didn't have a hernia I
00:06:39
didn't have a loose lower esophageal
00:06:41
sphincter I really nothing came back
00:06:44
remarkable even none of my blood work
00:06:46
was remarkable at all which was
00:06:48
interesting because I was pretty
00:06:49
malnourished at the time and basically
00:06:52
they gave me a PPI and I went on my
00:06:54
Merry way
00:06:56
what I forgot to mention is that also I
00:06:58
had a ton of antibiotic use before
00:07:01
that food poisoning event so I think you
00:07:04
know my gut microbiome was off balance I
00:07:06
think a lot of my root causes were under
00:07:08
nutrition chronic stress nutrient
00:07:11
deficiencies from both of those things
00:07:13
uh the foodborne illness impacting my
00:07:16
microbiome but also antibiotic use so
00:07:19
there was a majority of things
00:07:21
and then as I was saying I went on the
00:07:23
BPI and that was helping for a little
00:07:26
bit but eventually it stopped working
00:07:28
and I was very very it was very scary I
00:07:30
was very afraid because what was I going
00:07:32
to do if my PPI wasn't gonna work I
00:07:35
couldn't live like that and I was really
00:07:38
struggling so I you know studying
00:07:41
nutrition at the time I knew how to read
00:07:42
research and I knew how to
00:07:45
interpret research so I went into a deep
00:07:49
dive of the research that exists for
00:07:51
acid reflux and I started to learn about
00:07:54
the herbs and supplements and all of the
00:07:56
lifestyle factors that can impact acid
00:07:59
reflux and ways to live to prevent
00:08:02
symptoms and I kind of created my own
00:08:04
protocol
00:08:05
and it took about a year but I was able
00:08:08
to heal my symptoms to a point where I
00:08:11
was able to incorporate co-incorporate
00:08:13
my favorite foods it probably took about
00:08:16
two years to get to a point where I
00:08:19
really wasn't thinking about acid reflux
00:08:21
I could have alcohol I could have
00:08:22
chocolate but it took probably about a
00:08:25
year to get to the point where I felt
00:08:27
like I was recovered and then two years
00:08:28
where I was really totally fine no acid
00:08:31
reflux symptoms and I'll tell you also
00:08:33
at the end of the video kind of where I
00:08:34
am today and what that's what that is
00:08:36
like for me so stay tuned for that what
00:08:39
did I do to help myself heal so one of
00:08:41
the biggest things I did was start to
00:08:44
actually fuel my body when you have
00:08:46
digestive issues nutrition gets so
00:08:48
convoluted and confusing and sometimes
00:08:51
we forget what even is a balanced meal
00:08:53
and we forget you know what it what does
00:08:56
my body need and we can get really
00:08:57
sucked into keto paleo intermittent
00:09:00
fasting food combining
00:09:02
most of that is not sustainable and not
00:09:05
balanced and so I had to really go back
00:09:07
to the basics of like nourishing my body
00:09:09
with protein carbohydrates healthy fats
00:09:12
and make sure that I was getting small
00:09:15
frequent meals small frequent meals
00:09:17
really really helped me a ton instead of
00:09:19
larger meals that were overfilling my
00:09:21
stomach and just too much for my stomach
00:09:23
at one time smaller more frequent meals
00:09:26
were really much easier for me to digest
00:09:28
and so I created a meal schedule to help
00:09:30
me stay on that schedule so I wasn't
00:09:31
going too long in between meals and I
00:09:34
was able to get in enough nutrition to
00:09:37
reverse some of the nutrient
00:09:39
deficiencies that I was having so low
00:09:41
B12 low iron
00:09:43
low vitamin D can all contribute to poor
00:09:46
digestion and acid reflux so something
00:09:48
really important to consider and that
00:09:50
really supports getting adequate
00:09:52
nutrition so in addition to that I
00:09:54
needed to create that meal schedule
00:09:55
because I needed to have an early dinner
00:09:58
so a lot of my reflux symptoms were
00:09:59
happening at night and my reflux and my
00:10:02
bloating was getting worse throughout
00:10:03
the day
00:10:04
so having an early dinner was pivotal
00:10:07
and dinner often was A light meal you
00:10:10
know a soup or a stew or like a crock
00:10:12
pot meal something really easy to digest
00:10:14
easy to digest foods are your friends if
00:10:17
you have acid reflux sometimes soup
00:10:19
isn't always well tolerated if it's too
00:10:22
much liquid but things that are like
00:10:24
well poached chicken well-cooked fish
00:10:27
well-cooked veggies those things that
00:10:29
take some of the work out of your
00:10:31
digestive system can be super helpful I
00:10:34
really had to manage stress this was
00:10:36
absolutely huge and if you have not
00:10:38
approached your chronic stress and you
00:10:41
are dealing with acid reflux and you're
00:10:42
you know in the cycle of health anxiety
00:10:44
you know Googling your symptoms I have
00:10:47
been there it's really freaking scary
00:10:49
and really hard to get out of but you
00:10:52
have to get out of the health anxiety
00:10:54
cycle and the anxiety cycle to heal acid
00:10:57
reflux I saw a therapist I started doing
00:11:00
gut directed meditation yoga really
00:11:02
doing things that got me in my body
00:11:05
and out of my head
00:11:07
um doing things that bring you Joy is
00:11:10
extremely important connecting with
00:11:12
friends and family I isolated myself for
00:11:15
so long and I felt like I couldn't go
00:11:19
out I felt like I you know had to have
00:11:21
dinner at like three or four so I never
00:11:22
had dinner with my friends and I you
00:11:25
know never when I was I feel like I
00:11:26
wasted a lot of time and I had to
00:11:29
relearn how to engage in these social
00:11:31
activities in order to really see
00:11:35
progress so I started going to those
00:11:37
dinners with my friends and just you
00:11:38
know having a small amount of food
00:11:40
ordering something that worked for me
00:11:42
ordering something simple asking for
00:11:44
sauce on the side
00:11:46
um ordering off the sides menu if I had
00:11:48
to like no one really cared whether or
00:11:50
not I was eating the same things that
00:11:52
they were they just wanted to see me and
00:11:55
it was so important to connect with
00:11:57
friends and family to feel supported to
00:11:59
feel normal so you know starting to
00:12:02
really do things that bring me joy yoga
00:12:04
was a big thing that brought me joy I'm
00:12:05
also a certified yoga instructor and the
00:12:07
meditation piece was huge so meditation
00:12:10
really helped to calm my nervous system
00:12:12
and repair my mind gut connection if if
00:12:16
lots of craziness is going on in here
00:12:17
our digestive system responds to that
00:12:20
just like you know I was saying at the
00:12:22
beginning with chronic stress if we're
00:12:24
having anxiety our digestive system is
00:12:26
going to respond to that and we have
00:12:28
neurotransmitters that communicate
00:12:30
between the gut and the Brain this is
00:12:32
well researched you can search PubMed
00:12:34
and look at the gut brain connection our
00:12:36
gut and our brain influence each other
00:12:38
our microbiome impacts our brain our
00:12:40
brain impacts our gut so we have to
00:12:42
manage stress and that is why I created
00:12:45
my app Flora so I created an App for
00:12:48
people with acid reflux to heal their
00:12:50
symptoms and their health anxiety and it
00:12:53
is you can find out more about it down
00:12:55
below but it's amazing to watch you guys
00:12:58
heal on this app and to hear your
00:13:00
healing Journeys and there's
00:13:01
testimonials on my website you can check
00:13:03
those out too they're super inspiring
00:13:04
but Flora is a collection of acid reflux
00:13:08
healing modules tons of videos by me on
00:13:11
everything I did to continue this
00:13:13
healing journey and everything I did to
00:13:16
recover from acid reflux as well as you
00:13:19
know recipe these 100 hundreds of
00:13:22
recipes a meal plan is on there more
00:13:24
meal plans are coming there's a ton of
00:13:26
gut directed meditations yoga to really
00:13:29
give you the tools you need to heal off
00:13:31
three bucks at your fingertips so you
00:13:33
have little best friend in your pocket
00:13:34
there for you whenever you're gonna go
00:13:36
Google something you just open up the
00:13:39
Flora app and feel supported and get the
00:13:41
help you need so really really grateful
00:13:44
for that community and it's so amazing
00:13:46
to to help you guys heal in that way but
00:13:48
back to my journey so that early dinner
00:13:52
pivotal healing healings chronic stress
00:13:55
took a while healing my nervous system
00:13:57
took you know a few months I would say
00:13:59
to really get into the habit of doing
00:14:01
the meditations
00:14:02
doing the work and setting boundaries
00:14:05
with school I used to study like all the
00:14:08
time I would study like I I like stay up
00:14:12
super late early studying I just never
00:14:13
would take breaks and so I decided you
00:14:15
know that that wasn't going to work for
00:14:16
me anymore and I had to make a change
00:14:19
for my nervous system so in addition to
00:14:22
that I changed the way that I ate so the
00:14:27
way that I ate you know I used to have
00:14:28
these big volume meals with a lot of
00:14:31
veggies and
00:14:34
um I used to do like spicy food and a
00:14:37
lot of carbonated beverages like things
00:14:39
that were Gonna Keep Me really full and
00:14:41
I had to switch out of that and you know
00:14:43
come back to nourishing easy to digest
00:14:45
foods and the way that I ate was
00:14:48
actually even more important so the way
00:14:50
that I ate at meal times I call this
00:14:53
Meal Time hygiene and I talk a lot about
00:14:55
this on Flora so Meal Time hygiene is
00:14:58
trying to make sure that you are taking
00:15:00
five deep breaths before your meal I
00:15:02
call this the five plus one method so
00:15:04
five deep breaths
00:15:05
relaxing the abdomen shifting into rest
00:15:08
and digest the parasympathetic nervous
00:15:10
system
00:15:11
and one thing you're grateful for so
00:15:14
taking five deep breaths think of one
00:15:16
thing you're grateful for because the
00:15:18
Gratitude helps to ignite and light up
00:15:20
the vagus nerve the vagus nerve is a
00:15:22
really important part of our gut brain
00:15:24
connection and so these two things can
00:15:26
help support digestion so eating in a
00:15:28
calm state food anxiety is really common
00:15:31
with acid reflux and I get that I went
00:15:33
through a ton of elimination I used to
00:15:35
be like removing different foods all the
00:15:38
time and I'm really afraid of food and
00:15:39
so I had to really get a grip on that
00:15:41
and realize that okay the food is not
00:15:44
causing my symptoms because my symptoms
00:15:45
are all the time and they're very
00:15:48
inconsistent so I'll have an egg one day
00:15:50
and I'll be okay but then I'll have an
00:15:51
egg and the other day in a reflux
00:15:53
and when you're experiencing
00:15:55
inconsistency like that and you're
00:15:57
having reflux pretty much every time you
00:15:59
eat it's not the food like
00:16:01
more often than not even if you're
00:16:03
having reflux only occasionally it's
00:16:05
usually not the food unless it's like a
00:16:08
spicy fried big chocolate you know
00:16:11
coffee situation it's usually not the
00:16:15
food and so I had to really admit that
00:16:18
like my my lifestyle and my stress and
00:16:23
my pattern of antibiotic use you know
00:16:25
that was probably what caused this and I
00:16:28
had to change the way that I approached
00:16:30
my meal so switching my mindset really
00:16:32
acknowledging that food is healing and
00:16:35
food is not causing my symptoms so
00:16:36
reducing food anxiety practicing healthy
00:16:39
mindset at meal times chewing super well
00:16:43
so I used to you know eat really quickly
00:16:45
rushed slowing down chewing your food
00:16:48
well that is such an underrated tip for
00:16:50
acid reflux so so pivotal sitting up
00:16:53
tall having good posture and not
00:16:56
slouching after meals is also really
00:16:58
really important and making sure that
00:17:00
you're maintaining that good posture for
00:17:02
like an hour after your meal
00:17:03
avoiding laying down two to three hours
00:17:06
after your meals you know having that
00:17:08
earlier dinner super super helpful
00:17:11
so I had to change a lot of things but
00:17:14
in addition to that what what has also
00:17:16
really helped me heal is using
00:17:19
mucilaginous herbs so mucilaginous herbs
00:17:22
are herbs that increase the mucous
00:17:24
lining of the throat and the esophagus
00:17:26
and the small intestine to protect from
00:17:28
Acid erosion so I used slippery elm and
00:17:33
deglyceride deglycerizinated licorice
00:17:36
root uh those were really really helpful
00:17:39
I tried a ton of different supplements I
00:17:41
tried aloe I tried marshmallow root
00:17:43
those are the two that I noticed really
00:17:45
make a huge difference and have made a
00:17:47
huge difference in my clients with acid
00:17:49
reflux GERD and LPR
00:17:51
LPR is laryngeal pharyngeal reflux and
00:17:55
it's like the throat symptoms of acid
00:17:57
reflux so like throat tightness a
00:17:59
globular sensation in the throat um
00:18:01
feeling like something's stuck in your
00:18:03
throat those can be symptoms of LPR or
00:18:05
laryngeal pharyngeal reflux so that was
00:18:09
really important in my journey because I
00:18:12
was able to calm that inflammation in my
00:18:14
throat and really get a grip all the
00:18:16
symptoms and protect from the acid
00:18:19
damage because every time we reflux like
00:18:21
putting salt in the wound and so we have
00:18:23
to stop that inflammation the
00:18:25
mucilations herbs like slippery almond
00:18:27
DGL deglycerizing a licorice root they
00:18:30
protect from the acid on your throat and
00:18:34
they create a thicker barrier and they
00:18:36
also decrease inflammation so I found
00:18:39
these through just research and I
00:18:41
started to take them I took them as
00:18:43
capsules when I originally had started
00:18:46
taking them because I didn't know better
00:18:48
but now that I've worked with you know
00:18:50
so many clients and I've even done even
00:18:52
more research and training in this area
00:18:54
I now realize that the best forms of
00:18:57
sliprium slippery on is the best warmest
00:18:59
powder
00:19:00
for sure because you're getting that
00:19:02
contact on the esophagus it works much
00:19:04
much better than capsules and then also
00:19:07
DGL the best form is uh chewables I
00:19:11
think there really is something to do
00:19:13
with that chewing like getting that
00:19:15
contact in your throat so you know
00:19:17
powdered form or chewable of the DGL is
00:19:19
also great in terms of the exact dosage
00:19:21
those dosages I use I think I did like
00:19:24
400 milligrams of the slippery elm twice
00:19:26
a day and probably very similar to 400
00:19:30
milligrams of the DGL twice a day uh but
00:19:33
I you know I dosages are really
00:19:35
dependent on the person and you should
00:19:37
always get supplement recommendations
00:19:39
from a qualified Healthcare professional
00:19:41
I would love to be able to give you a
00:19:44
supplement recommendation and I can in a
00:19:46
one-on-one session if you book a
00:19:48
one-on-one session with me we can go
00:19:49
through your diet go through your
00:19:51
lifestyle your symptoms do a root cause
00:19:53
analysis figure out what is driving
00:19:55
these symptoms and then personalize in
00:19:57
nutrition and Supplement Plan for you
00:20:00
and um so you can you can sign up down
00:20:02
below uh sometimes I do get full and I
00:20:05
have to close my openings but if you if
00:20:09
there's an availability definitely book
00:20:10
it because I'd love to help you and help
00:20:13
you feel better get your life back but
00:20:15
yes I get a lot of questions about how
00:20:16
much should I take and it really depends
00:20:18
you really you need to be getting these
00:20:20
recommendations from a qualified
00:20:21
Healthcare professional and you also
00:20:23
need to do that because certain
00:20:25
medications can interact with different
00:20:26
herbs and supplements so I wish that I
00:20:30
you know saw a registered dietitian who
00:20:32
specialize in acid reflux but it was
00:20:34
really hard to find like I still don't
00:20:36
really know of any dietitians that
00:20:38
specialize in acid reflux in particular
00:20:40
so that's why I have dedicate dedicated
00:20:43
my career to this and
00:20:45
um if I had found a registered dietitian
00:20:47
I would have healed a lot sooner I'm
00:20:50
sure it would have taken me less than a
00:20:51
year because I tried a lot of things I
00:20:53
tried a lot of elimination diets I dried
00:20:55
a lot of different supplements and
00:20:58
was it was a little bit longer than it
00:21:00
needed to be if I had that support and
00:21:02
accountability it would have been much
00:21:03
quicker so in addition to all of these
00:21:06
things I in addition to changing the
00:21:10
pattern of my meals having that early
00:21:11
dinner
00:21:13
chewing my food really well practicing
00:21:14
Meal Time hygiene practicing gratitude
00:21:17
managing stress you know journaling and
00:21:20
meditation and yoga and connecting with
00:21:22
friends doing things that bring me joy
00:21:24
to heal the vagus nerve and the nervous
00:21:26
system
00:21:27
and also making sure I was getting
00:21:29
enough nutrition doing the mucilaginous
00:21:32
herbs all that was super helpful lastly
00:21:34
I will say I had to really limit
00:21:37
caffeine during my healing Journey so I
00:21:39
did have to take out all caffeine it was
00:21:41
a super big trigger for me but that
00:21:44
being said everyone is different and
00:21:46
sometimes it's about finding the amount
00:21:48
of caffeine that works for you so if a
00:21:51
small amount of caffeine may be totally
00:21:53
fine you know having a half a cup with
00:21:54
some milk I really like to help my
00:21:56
clients find ways to incorporate their
00:21:59
favorite things even while they're on
00:22:01
their healing Journey if coffee is
00:22:02
really important to you sometimes we
00:22:03
play around with coffee after food which
00:22:06
by the way you should always be having
00:22:07
coffee after food
00:22:09
um we play around with the amount we
00:22:11
play them out uh play around with the
00:22:13
type of caffeine sometimes matcha can
00:22:15
work better sometimes it's better with
00:22:18
milk or with a little bit of a buffer
00:22:20
um and so uh buffer as in something
00:22:23
added to it like to dilute the caffeine
00:22:26
and so we play around with the amount
00:22:28
the timing and the form
00:22:30
that being said
00:22:32
where am I now with acid reflux can I
00:22:35
have coffee can I have wine I will say
00:22:37
it took me it took me a while to get
00:22:39
here because I had a lot of stress going
00:22:41
on with you know doing my clinical
00:22:45
internship working in the hospital it
00:22:47
was a lot and now I work in private
00:22:48
practice so now getting through that
00:22:50
period of my life I am in a place where
00:22:52
I no longer have acid reflux symptoms on
00:22:56
a daily basis so I can drink coffee
00:22:57
sometimes I have two cups of coffee I
00:22:59
never thought I would say that by the
00:23:01
way I always thought I was going to be
00:23:02
really sensitive to coffee because it
00:23:04
used to give me anxiety and now I can
00:23:06
have it and I don't have acid reflux I
00:23:09
can eat pretty much everything I eat you
00:23:12
know Tomatoes chocolate I have almost
00:23:14
daily and the only thing that really
00:23:17
will sometimes give me some irritation
00:23:19
is excessive alcohol which I don't
00:23:22
really drink excessive alcohol but if I
00:23:24
have like three glasses of wine
00:23:25
sometimes I will get heartburn if it's
00:23:27
late at night so but that is normal like
00:23:30
I think that people with digestive
00:23:32
issues get really hyper aware of their
00:23:34
symptoms and think that any little thing
00:23:36
like any bloating any any bowel
00:23:39
regularity is kind of a big deal and
00:23:42
it's normal humans will sometimes have
00:23:45
digestive issues so a digestive issues
00:23:47
every once in a while are relatively
00:23:49
normal so I consider myself in remission
00:23:52
for acid reflux because you know alcohol
00:23:54
is something that I probably shouldn't
00:23:56
be putting in my body anyway if I don't
00:23:58
do it I'm totally fine
00:24:00
um but even a glass of wine with dinner
00:24:02
like one glass of wine doesn't bother me
00:24:04
so just a reminder there that you know
00:24:07
if you if you are in a on a healing
00:24:10
journey and you have acid you've had
00:24:13
acid reflux you've had IBS and you're
00:24:15
mostly free of symptoms and you get some
00:24:18
symptoms try to stay calm because you
00:24:21
know every once in a while if you're
00:24:22
having a stressful day or if you are
00:24:25
eating differently or traveling
00:24:27
sometimes we will have a little bit of
00:24:29
symptoms and that's okay and it's
00:24:31
important to stay calm during those
00:24:33
symptoms and remember that just because
00:24:35
you have symptoms doesn't mean that you
00:24:38
are not making progress on your healing
00:24:40
Journey or that you are failing or that
00:24:43
there's something wrong you know
00:24:45
continuing to practice Stress Management
00:24:47
continue to eat in a way that nourishes
00:24:50
your body and if you're really
00:24:51
struggling with that I highly recommend
00:24:53
checking out the floor app this is a
00:24:57
really all-inclusive platform that has
00:24:59
nutrition the pillars the pillars of
00:25:02
healing so nutrition yoga meditation and
00:25:06
acid reflux information so you don't
00:25:08
have to Google anymore and you can
00:25:10
really get the evidence-based
00:25:11
information about acid reflux that will
00:25:13
help you heal so remember that you are
00:25:16
not alone and that just because you have
00:25:19
symptoms today does not mean that you
00:25:21
all will always have symptoms healing
00:25:23
from acid reflux is 100 possible and
00:25:25
it's really important that you know that
00:25:27
and that you truly believe that you will
00:25:30
get better this was another thing that I
00:25:34
had to really wrap my head around is
00:25:37
that I would get better I had to
00:25:38
visualize myself better
00:25:41
and I literally have chills as in saying
00:25:43
this because
00:25:45
I used to think before I healed that I
00:25:48
couldn't I I just thought I'd always be
00:25:50
sick I was so afraid of always being
00:25:52
sick that if I was the rhetoric in my
00:25:53
head that I would always be sick and I
00:25:55
always have reflux you have to believe
00:25:57
that you are going to heal anything in
00:26:00
life if you don't believe you'll get
00:26:02
there
00:26:03
you won't you have to you have to change
00:26:06
your mindset and I know this sounds a
00:26:08
little bit tough love but whether or not
00:26:10
you think you will you're right with
00:26:13
anything in life you have to believe
00:26:14

00:26:17
that hope and visualize that future for
00:26:18
yourself and Flora helps you do that
00:26:20
