Linha do tempo

  • 00:00:00 - 00:05:00

The speaker discusses their intention to reflect on their progress and future plans, notably regarding their channel and a project called Cookwell. They aim to describe Cookwell's purpose and address frequent questions. Cookwell is described as an ecosystem for home cooks, creators, and Cookwell that addresses the universal issue of daily self-feeding, going beyond traditional formats like YouTube channels or newsletters.

  • 00:05:00 - 00:10:00

The speaker elaborates on Cookwell's mission: solving challenges faced by home cooks, such as meal planning, waste, and finding suitable recipes. They conducted a poll to understand these challenges better. Observations revealed that tasks surrounding the cooking process are more challenging than the act of cooking itself, compounded by individuals' unique constraints such as time, budget, and family responsibilities.

  • 00:10:00 - 00:15:00

The speaker critiques current solutions like recipe websites, cookbooks, and meal kits for being inadequate in addressing the daily challenges of feeding oneself. They compare recipe websites' ad-heavy content, cookbooks' impracticality for quick meals, and meal kits' high cost, stressing the need for a holistic solution like Cookwell that integrates planning, learning, and actual cooking.

  • 00:15:00 - 00:20:00

The speaker introduces Cookwell's concept of a comprehensive cooking app (Cookwell Companion App) with features like a food feed for recipe inspiration, a sophisticated grocery list, meal planning templates, and a function to assist immediate cooking needs based on available ingredients. This app is envisioned to be a daily utility for streamlining the feeding process akin to other everyday apps like Spotify for music or Uber for rides.

  • 00:20:00 - 00:25:00

Challenges faced in developing Cookwell are highlighted, including content creation and funding. The speaker outlines plans for content creation involving partnerships with individual creators to develop recipes and shopping templates. They also discuss a potential revenue-sharing model to incentivize creators and ensure sustainability.

  • 00:25:00 - 00:30:00

The speaker addresses the need for funding to expand the Cookwell team and potentially consider a Kickstarter or venture capital to support the project's development. They emphasize that additional resources are necessary due to the project's scale and impact potential, aiming to maintain independence from outside investors to align with their mission of serving home cooks.

  • 00:30:00 - 00:35:00

The discussion shifts to a personal reflection on changing video content formats from recipe-based to deep-dive explorations, driven by curiosity and the desire to address personal questions about food and cooking techniques. This transition was not strategic but organically evolved from the natural curiosity and growing interest in deeper investigations into food topics.

  • 00:35:00 - 00:40:00

The speaker's cooking philosophy includes transparency about often overstated cooking advice (e.g., washing rice) and emphasizes practical, evidence-based approaches to cooking methods. They also recognize varied influences on their cooking style, ranging from TV shows and YouTube creators to scientific approaches and personal exploration of food narratives.

  • 00:40:00 - 00:45:00

The speaker reflects on their deep-dive video creation process, emphasizing significant time spent on research, thinking, and iterative questioning. They explain the complexity of presenting food science concepts accessibly, often simplifying deeply technical insights into engaging content for broader audiences.

  • 00:45:00 - 00:53:35

The speaker concludes with a personal story about their journey into cooking and content creation, attributing their Grandma's influence, family cooking culture, and later professional dissatisfaction as catalysts. The video wraps up by expressing optimism about Cookwell's future and gratitude towards the community that enabled their growth as a content creator.

  • 00:00:00
okay we have a lot to talk about at a
  • 00:00:02
high level I want to do kind of an endof
  • 00:00:04
year reflection on where I am with maybe
  • 00:00:07
this channel some of the projects we're
  • 00:00:08
working on I also really want to explain
  • 00:00:10
the future of what we're building with
  • 00:00:11
cookwell I've been terrible at doing
  • 00:00:13
that so far and then I have pulled some
  • 00:00:15
Q&A questions from all of you uh
  • 00:00:18
everything's going to be time stamped
  • 00:00:19
down below so jump around as much as you
  • 00:00:21
want it's been probably almost three or
  • 00:00:25
so years since I've done a Q&A Style
  • 00:00:27
video so definitely lots to catch up up
  • 00:00:30
on so feel free to throw this on if
  • 00:00:32
you're doing some cooking around the
  • 00:00:33
holidays um this is probably just a good
  • 00:00:34
one to throw on in the background treat
  • 00:00:36
it as maybe a podcast but anyway let's
  • 00:00:38
dive in and really the first topic I
  • 00:00:40
want to explain is what is cookwell what
  • 00:00:43
are we building what is the entire point
  • 00:00:45
of all of it and I've been like I said
  • 00:00:47
I've been bad at doing this because you
  • 00:00:49
may think oh is cookwell a second
  • 00:00:51
YouTube channel is it a website is it a
  • 00:00:53
newsletter is it a way to sell products
  • 00:00:55
and it's actually none of those and
  • 00:00:58
really we're missing this one piece that
  • 00:01:00
we're working on building behind the
  • 00:01:02
scenes and this one piece is by far the
  • 00:01:05
biggest thing but without it the rest of
  • 00:01:07
the stuff is is kind of pointless
  • 00:01:09
frankly like I'm not going to continue
  • 00:01:10
the YouTube I'm not going to continue
  • 00:01:12
newsletter and all these other things
  • 00:01:13
we're doing unless we can figure out
  • 00:01:15
this missing piece and create this
  • 00:01:17
ecosystem where it's a mixture of
  • 00:01:20
    homecooks creators and cookwell all
  • 00:01:22
working in conjunction together and our
  • 00:01:25
goal is to solve the single problem that
  • 00:01:28
every home cook has around around the
  • 00:01:30
world every single home Coke has this
  • 00:01:31
problem and that problem is it's hard to
  • 00:01:34
feed yourself every day so maybe that
  • 00:01:36
sounded a little dramatic but really
  • 00:01:38
when you boil it down to these first
  • 00:01:40
principles that is the problem we are
  • 00:01:43
trying to solve and before I get to this
  • 00:01:44
missing piece and kind of some of the
  • 00:01:46
solutions and features we're building I
  • 00:01:48
do want to explain our thought process
  • 00:01:51
behind this whole thing so you guys have
  • 00:01:52
the necessary context and can help me
  • 00:01:55
answer if we should continue building
  • 00:01:58
this and first there's kind of two
  • 00:02:00
questions to understand first why is it
  • 00:02:03
hard to feed yourself every day and
  • 00:02:05
secondly what are the problems with the
  • 00:02:07
current Solutions out there such as
  • 00:02:09
    YouTube videos cookbooks recipe websites
  • 00:02:12
and things of that nature so we did this
  • 00:02:14
poll earlier this year and you guys
  • 00:02:15
listed out some of your biggest pain
  • 00:02:17
points when it comes to the cooking
  • 00:02:19
process and one of the biggest
  • 00:02:21
realizations that we had after reading
  • 00:02:23
through and kind of mapping all of
  • 00:02:24
everything is that the act of cooking is
  • 00:02:27
not what's hard like I could give a
  • 00:02:29
complete beginner some ingredients in a
  • 00:02:31
recipe and they'll be able to make
  • 00:02:32
something decent but what holds people
  • 00:02:35
back from cooking more than they already
  • 00:02:37
do is everything that comes before and
  • 00:02:40
after the cooking process for example it
  • 00:02:43
takes a lot of time to meal plan produce
  • 00:02:45
goes to waste before you can use it it's
  • 00:02:47
hard to cook for one person without
  • 00:02:48
having to eat the same thing for four
  • 00:02:50
straight days how do I use up my
  • 00:02:51
leftovers and make them into something
  • 00:02:53
new how do I use up expensive onetime
  • 00:02:55
ingredients it's hard to find recipes
  • 00:02:57
that fit my health and fitness goals or
  • 00:02:59
I wish I could go grocery shopping
  • 00:03:01
without needing to do a bunch of
  • 00:03:03
planning and there are two reasons that
  • 00:03:05
make all of this even more harder first
  • 00:03:08
everyone's problems are based on their
  • 00:03:10
unique human constraints such as your
  • 00:03:12
age your budget your time job family
  • 00:03:15
    experience level and secondly these
  • 00:03:18
    human constraints change throughout your
  • 00:03:20
life so let's take grocery shopping as
  • 00:03:22
an example so as a college student you
  • 00:03:24
may only need to shop for yourself which
  • 00:03:27
is pretty easy but you probably have a
  • 00:03:29
pretty limited budget to shop with a few
  • 00:03:32
years later maybe you get your first job
  • 00:03:34
and you have some more money to spend on
  • 00:03:35
ingredients in grocery shop but you're
  • 00:03:38
now buying more ingredients to expand
  • 00:03:39
the amount of recipes you make and a lot
  • 00:03:41
of your ingredients are now going to
  • 00:03:43
waste and maybe several years later
  • 00:03:45
after that when you have kids in a
  • 00:03:46
family you're no longer just shopping
  • 00:03:48
for yourself but need to figure out how
  • 00:03:50
to grocery shop effectively for four six
  • 00:03:53
or eight people and all of these are
  • 00:03:55
    grocery related problems but the
  • 00:03:57
    constraints are completely different
  • 00:03:59
depending on where you are with your
  • 00:04:01
life and by using the term cookwell I
  • 00:04:03
don't mean to help you cook well like a
  • 00:04:05
chef or something that's not the point
  • 00:04:07
at all it really means to help you cook
  • 00:04:09
well for life and really with all the
  • 00:04:11
solutions we're building we're trying to
  • 00:04:13
figure out how do we help you cook well
  • 00:04:15
for what life looks like right now but
  • 00:04:18
also what life will look like in the
  • 00:04:20
future and this is an example of what I
  • 00:04:23
feel is not being served in the current
  • 00:04:25
    landscape with cookbooks YouTube videos
  • 00:04:28
websites and things of that that nature
  • 00:04:30
so let's walk through them as a home
  • 00:04:32
cook there are many different places
  • 00:04:33
where you can go to get inspiration
  • 00:04:35
    Source your ingredients start cooking
  • 00:04:37
and feed yourself but all of them tend
  • 00:04:39
to have some downsides when you're
  • 00:04:41
really looking at this from a
  • 00:04:42
perspective of how do we help you feed
  • 00:04:44
yourself every day for example let's
  • 00:04:46
    start with recipe websites recipe
  • 00:04:48
websites are generally free to access
  • 00:04:50
which is great however once you get
  • 00:04:52
there they feel basically unusable due
  • 00:04:55
to all of the ads there's header ads
  • 00:04:57
there's putter ads left margin right
  • 00:04:58
margin video player ads there's just so
  • 00:05:01
many of them and then there's just walls
  • 00:05:02
of text because what most websites are
  • 00:05:05
trying to do is optimize kind of the
  • 00:05:07
time you spend on the page so more ads
  • 00:05:08
can be shown to optimize the ultimately
  • 00:05:11
the ad Revenue you end up earning and
  • 00:05:13
then outside of that there is no
  • 00:05:15
    continuity between recipes like some
  • 00:05:18
recipe websites you may like how they
  • 00:05:20
write their recipes but then maybe they
  • 00:05:21
don't have a lot of the recipes that you
  • 00:05:23
want to make and then vice versa maybe
  • 00:05:25
some places have the recipe you want to
  • 00:05:27
make but you just don't like the layout
  • 00:05:30
and how they're set up and this is one
  • 00:05:32
of the problems we've already tried to
  • 00:05:33
solve with cookwell decom where again
  • 00:05:35
there's no ads on there at all we hope
  • 00:05:37
to keep it that way I'll explain why a
  • 00:05:39
little bit later but we have built in
  • 00:05:41
the fundamentals as well so all of the
  • 00:05:43
recipes have this very clear structure
  • 00:05:45
from recipe to recipe and we think it's
  • 00:05:48
a really great one but just one example
  • 00:05:50
of where kind of current recipe websites
  • 00:05:52
really tend to fall flat and then if we
  • 00:05:55
turn back the clock and look at another
  • 00:05:57
    common solution are cookbooks cookbook
  • 00:05:59
books are beautiful they have tons of
  • 00:06:01
recipes and obviously have no ads
  • 00:06:03
because you paid for the book but it
  • 00:06:05
tends to not be a very useful format
  • 00:06:07
especially on like a quick week night or
  • 00:06:10
something for example if you're trying
  • 00:06:11
to plan out a couple of meals you
  • 00:06:13
generally don't pull out the cookbook
  • 00:06:15
and like flip between the pages it's
  • 00:06:17
also hard to like get your grocery list
  • 00:06:19
together if you did pick out three
  • 00:06:20
recipes it's like okay there's onion
  • 00:06:22
here half an onion there and you're like
  • 00:06:24
kind of flipping back and forth and then
  • 00:06:26
again cookbooks feel more of like a a
  • 00:06:28
luxury of time product where yeah if
  • 00:06:31
it's around the holidays or maybe on the
  • 00:06:32
weekend bust out the The cookbook find
  • 00:06:35
something that looks amazing and make it
  • 00:06:37
but if it's like a Tuesday night at 7:
  • 00:06:39
p.m. you're not pulling out the cookbook
  • 00:06:41
to try to figure out something you need
  • 00:06:42
to make in the next 20 minutes another
  • 00:06:44
solution or meal kit subscriptions which
  • 00:06:46
genuinely do help solve the waste
  • 00:06:48
problem as they typically send you
  • 00:06:50
exactly what you need to make the
  • 00:06:52
recipes but these tend to have a very
  • 00:06:55
high per meal cost especially when
  • 00:06:57
compared to regular grocery shopping and
  • 00:07:00
the menus tend to be limited and you
  • 00:07:02
kind of become reliant on these meal kit
  • 00:07:05
    subscriptions rather than empowered by
  • 00:07:07
them next up we have video content which
  • 00:07:09
is obviously my personal favorite and is
  • 00:07:12
probably the most popular format these
  • 00:07:14
days between short form and long form
  • 00:07:17
content it's so good at helping you find
  • 00:07:19
    inspiration and Visually see how
  • 00:07:20
something is made however again video
  • 00:07:22
content does have its shortcomings for
  • 00:07:25
one a lot of content is generally
  • 00:07:27
created to entertain in order to get
  • 00:07:29
more views appease your sponsors and
  • 00:07:32
conform to algorithm changes and over
  • 00:07:34
time to me it feels like a lot of
  • 00:07:36
content just ends up becoming the same
  • 00:07:39
like we do not need more pizza burger
  • 00:07:41
and steak videos there's so many at this
  • 00:07:43
point another example is maybe you see a
  • 00:07:46
viral Tik Tok recipe and you're like oo
  • 00:07:48
that looks good I want to make it but
  • 00:07:49
then you go to the grocery store end up
  • 00:07:51
spending like 50 or 60 bucks a lot of
  • 00:07:53
times maybe it's not as good as you
  • 00:07:55
thought and you have random leftover
  • 00:07:56
    ingredients you probably should have
  • 00:07:57
just grabbed takeout in that case and
  • 00:07:59
then on the other side I have created
  • 00:08:02
like several of these kind of framework
  • 00:08:03
and protocol videos but the problem with
  • 00:08:05
those is if it's a good video like if
  • 00:08:08
    it's a good framework and protocol I
  • 00:08:09
really should only make that video once
  • 00:08:12
and then it's kind of up to you guys to
  • 00:08:14
figure out examples like yes I could
  • 00:08:16
make a brazing framework video every
  • 00:08:18
month with just three examples but to me
  • 00:08:20
that's just kind of boring like I've
  • 00:08:22
already said what I wanted to say in
  • 00:08:24
that original framework video and then
  • 00:08:26
you're also not going to be served that
  • 00:08:28
framework video again like YouTube not
  • 00:08:29
going to just give you the same video
  • 00:08:30
like 3 months later there's no way to
  • 00:08:33
remind you of that information and I
  • 00:08:35
think a lot of it tends to just be
  • 00:08:36
forgotten over time and I will say the
  • 00:08:39
protocols and Frameworks are one of the
  • 00:08:41
pieces we are really trying to figure
  • 00:08:43
out how to properly build into this
  • 00:08:45
missing piece that I'm going to get to
  • 00:08:46
shortly but lastly I do want to talk
  • 00:08:48
about kind of a fifth category which I
  • 00:08:50
would say is a blanket group of like
  • 00:08:52
    paid content subscriptions whether it's
  • 00:08:55
    a newsletter maybe it's a creator making
  • 00:08:58
videos for their followers on like a
  • 00:08:59
    subscription YouTube membership
  • 00:09:01
something like that and really the
  • 00:09:02
downside with this model for me is that
  • 00:09:06
what I love about posting YouTube videos
  • 00:09:08
is I get to share something I'm
  • 00:09:10
passionate about and I learned and like
  • 00:09:12
I don't know who is end up going to
  • 00:09:14
watching that video when I post it out
  • 00:09:16
if I'm posting it in a paid Community
  • 00:09:18
only the paid members are going to be
  • 00:09:20
able to see that video which to me I
  • 00:09:22
feel like it loses some of its like
  • 00:09:23
excitement versus if I can put this
  • 00:09:26
thing out there and maybe it reaches a
  • 00:09:28
million or two million people who have
  • 00:09:29
never heard of the topic of the video
  • 00:09:32
before maybe that inspires them in some
  • 00:09:34
way to cook so for me I just I I don't
  • 00:09:36
love the idea of kind of like paid
  • 00:09:38
    content um I don't know I'm just I'm
  • 00:09:41
just not a fan so really when you pull
  • 00:09:42
back the layers of these solutions that
  • 00:09:44
I've just kind of mentioned and if
  • 00:09:46
you're looking at this from the
  • 00:09:47
perspective of how do we help you feed
  • 00:09:49
yourself every single day all of them
  • 00:09:52
tend to have downsides and all of these
  • 00:09:55
downsides are kind of correlated with
  • 00:09:57
the problems that creators face for
  • 00:09:59
example it's hard to figure out how to
  • 00:10:01
be a Creator how do you do it
  • 00:10:03
financially how do you do it
  • 00:10:04
content-wise how do you do it from a
  • 00:10:06
work life balance perspective and like I
  • 00:10:09
was kind of mentioning your recipe
  • 00:10:11
websites they probably don't want to
  • 00:10:13
write big walls of text but they're kind
  • 00:10:16
of incentivized to do that based on the
  • 00:10:19
playground of AD revenue and and how all
  • 00:10:21
that works and then again paid content
  • 00:10:23
subscriptions are a way to kind of
  • 00:10:25
stabilize your Revenue but then it also
  • 00:10:27
    becomes dependent on you continually
  • 00:10:30
putting out content like a twitch
  • 00:10:32
streamer for example if they have like a
  • 00:10:34
bunch of subscribers one month but then
  • 00:10:35
stop streaming for a month or two like
  • 00:10:37
all that Revenue kind of goes away and
  • 00:10:40
really we are trying to figure out not
  • 00:10:42
only how do we help solve the problem of
  • 00:10:45
Home cooks and how we help feed
  • 00:10:46
themselves every day but how can we
  • 00:10:48
support creators as well and work in an
  • 00:10:52
ecosystem together and that brings me to
  • 00:10:55
the missing piece the missing piece we
  • 00:10:57
want to build is the cookwell companion
  • 00:11:00
app still working out the naming and
  • 00:11:01
things like that but in the beginning we
  • 00:11:03
want to launch with four key features
  • 00:11:06
first is the food feed cooking for
  • 00:11:08
yourself on a consistent basis comes
  • 00:11:09
down to staying inspired and having
  • 00:11:11
ideas on what you can make with what you
  • 00:11:14
already have and imagine how fun and
  • 00:11:16
exciting it would be if you could open
  • 00:11:18
up an app with a feed and see new
  • 00:11:20
    recipes protocols and Frameworks that
  • 00:11:23
are suited to you and gets better over
  • 00:11:26
time additionally we want to have a
  • 00:11:27
    steady supply of educational cont
  • 00:11:29
content from the fundamentals to keep
  • 00:11:31
you learning and if a recipe calls your
  • 00:11:33
    name from this
  • 00:11:37
feed the second feature is the world's
  • 00:11:40
    best grocery list and shopping
  • 00:11:42
Frameworks and this is an intuitive
  • 00:11:43
space where you can make free form
  • 00:11:45
grocery list like you would in your
  • 00:11:46
notes app or choose from existing
  • 00:11:49
templates to help you get started and we
  • 00:11:52
think this is going to be better than
  • 00:11:53
the current Solutions on the market
  • 00:11:54
because it will have ingredient metadata
  • 00:11:56
similar to what you find on our recipes
  • 00:11:58
such as flavor tags grocery categories
  • 00:12:01
or you can add whatever metadata you
  • 00:12:02
want or these could also be Frameworks
  • 00:12:05
and shopping lists based on Cuisine so
  • 00:12:07
if you want to make several different
  • 00:12:09
Indian dishes we could kind of give you
  • 00:12:10
a starting point for what are the common
  • 00:12:12
ingredients in the pantry the fridge and
  • 00:12:15
things of that nature and thirdly we
  • 00:12:17
    want to have intuitive cataloging
  • 00:12:18
combining and saving features so you can
  • 00:12:21
go back and see what you've shot for in
  • 00:12:23
the past and repeat these successful
  • 00:12:25
shopping trips from your archive the
  • 00:12:28
third piece is the eating calendar and
  • 00:12:29
meal plan templates again still working
  • 00:12:31
out naming but don't think of this as
  • 00:12:34
just a meal planner really think about
  • 00:12:36
this as a feeding calendar this calendar
  • 00:12:39
is a way for you to visualize how you're
  • 00:12:41
eating throughout the week whether you
  • 00:12:43
are cooking or you're not you can use
  • 00:12:45
the feed or this calendar to drag and
  • 00:12:47
drop certain recipes into your week
  • 00:12:49
write in free form notes about
  • 00:12:51
ingredients you're planning to use up or
  • 00:12:53
slot in events where you have meals
  • 00:12:55
covered for example you could add a
  • 00:12:57
leftover reminder you could add you're
  • 00:12:58
having lunch with co-workers so you
  • 00:13:00
don't need to cook or you can also let
  • 00:13:02
someone else do the thinking for you and
  • 00:13:04
slot in maybe five meals at once for
  • 00:13:06
example you could take five lunches from
  • 00:13:10
some of my videos in the past make them
  • 00:13:13
into one little calendar and just pop it
  • 00:13:15
in there and it's like hey I'm just
  • 00:13:17
going to eat these and make these
  • 00:13:18
throughout the week which then link back
  • 00:13:19
to the grocery list help you shop and
  • 00:13:21
then help you feed yourself throughout
  • 00:13:23
the entire week and then lastly we want
  • 00:13:26
to figure out the let's cook button so
  • 00:13:28
imag imagine you find yourself on like
  • 00:13:30
    6:30 or 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. and you
  • 00:13:33
kind of need to throw something together
  • 00:13:34
    you're like thinking about getting
  • 00:13:35
takeout the idea here is that we want to
  • 00:13:38
be able to prompt you based on
  • 00:13:40
ingredients you may already have in the
  • 00:13:41
pantry in the fridge the freezer and
  • 00:13:44
help you along that process so you can
  • 00:13:46
figure out what you can make right now
  • 00:13:49
without needing to run to the store or
  • 00:13:51
maybe resort to takeout and hopefully
  • 00:13:53
that will just save you from a trip and
  • 00:13:55
obviously save you money over time and
  • 00:13:57
additionally to all of this there will
  • 00:13:58
be a profile where you can save recipes
  • 00:14:01
kind of have updated stats and things
  • 00:14:03
that you're doing just to make sure
  • 00:14:04
you're keeping track of this and really
  • 00:14:07
looking at this of how do we help you
  • 00:14:09
feed yourself every day and then how do
  • 00:14:12
we help you cook for what life looks
  • 00:14:13
like now how do we help you cook well
  • 00:14:16
for what life looks like in the future
  • 00:14:19
and the goal of this companion app is to
  • 00:14:20
make it a utility that you literally can
  • 00:14:22
use every single day for example when
  • 00:14:26
you need to listen to something what do
  • 00:14:28
you do you open up the Spotify app when
  • 00:14:30
you need to watch something Netflix HBO
  • 00:14:33
    or whatever your favorite streaming
  • 00:14:34
service is if you need to get a ride you
  • 00:14:36
open up the Uber app you need to order
  • 00:14:38
takeout door dash for example and that
  • 00:14:40
is the level of thinking that I want to
  • 00:14:43
build this app to how do I help feed
  • 00:14:46
myself today I'm opening up the cookwell
  • 00:14:48
app and maybe you go to the food feed
  • 00:14:50
because you need to be inspired maybe
  • 00:14:52
you already have something planned in
  • 00:14:53
your calendar maybe you need to go
  • 00:14:55
grocery shopping and we give you a
  • 00:14:56
Kickstart with you know an Indian
  • 00:14:59
Cuisine based template or maybe a
  • 00:15:01
healthy kind of Hope high protein
  • 00:15:03
template and then how do we help you
  • 00:15:04
track and remind you of that information
  • 00:15:07
over time is really how we're
  • 00:15:08
approaching this and I think we can
  • 00:15:11
build it but there's a few things that
  • 00:15:13
are kind of holding us back the first
  • 00:15:15
thing holding us back is a lack of
  • 00:15:17
content and here's where I want to
  • 00:15:19
explain how the paid companion app fits
  • 00:15:21
in with the other existing offerings we
  • 00:15:24
already have So currently cookwell kind
  • 00:15:26
of has three offerings we have cookwell
  • 00:15:28
decom which has our recipes and
  • 00:15:30
    fundamentals we have cookwell content
  • 00:15:32
    which includes the cookwell YouTube
  • 00:15:34
channel the mouthful newsletter and then
  • 00:15:36
we have individual creators content an
  • 00:15:38
example of that is this main channel
  • 00:15:40
here you know Ethan jabowski not
  • 00:15:42
cookwell different entities I got to try
  • 00:15:44
to keep this straight here now one of
  • 00:15:46
the big things that we want to do is yes
  • 00:15:49
build out our own cookwell content we
  • 00:15:51
want to build out the cookwell YouTube
  • 00:15:53
channel the newsletter we've got short
  • 00:15:55
form ideas we've got all these ideas of
  • 00:15:57
amazing content we can make but
  • 00:15:59
additionally we want to partner with
  • 00:16:01
individual creators to get their recipes
  • 00:16:04
to get their grocery templates to get
  • 00:16:06
their shopping Frameworks and it's all
  • 00:16:08
based off of existing content they're
  • 00:16:10
already making now obviously if a
  • 00:16:12
Creator is going to drive a sign up for
  • 00:16:15
a paid companion app we want to have a
  • 00:16:17
direct Revenue Split For example why do
  • 00:16:20
creators want to be on YouTube why do
  • 00:16:21
they want to be on Twitch it's because
  • 00:16:23
they have really good partner programs
  • 00:16:24
and we want to do the exact same thing
  • 00:16:26
with cookwell if for example you see
  • 00:16:29
the cookwell app on Ethan chabowski and
  • 00:16:32
you sign up with my code so code Ethan I
  • 00:16:34
get a direct Revenue split for that
  • 00:16:36
signup and then that stays with me month
  • 00:16:39
over month as long as the US user signs
  • 00:16:42
up now what's better here is instead of
  • 00:16:45
me having an individual like patreon or
  • 00:16:49
a course I made or or something of that
  • 00:16:51
nature that is still relying on solely
  • 00:16:54
me to continually churn out that new
  • 00:16:56
content or continually updating the paid
  • 00:16:58
community things of that nature however
  • 00:17:00
    in this case it's cookwell
  • 00:17:02
responsibility to make a product that is
  • 00:17:04
so good that people want to sign up and
  • 00:17:06
that they want to stay signed up
  • 00:17:08
regardless of if their favorite Creator
  • 00:17:11
is continuing to put out content for
  • 00:17:13
example if I need to spend personally if
  • 00:17:15
I need to spend an extra week or two on
  • 00:17:16
a video I don't need to worry about oh I
  • 00:17:19
told the sponsor I'd have it done by you
  • 00:17:22
know November 23rd so I I got to just
  • 00:17:24
get it done but I'd love to spend
  • 00:17:26
another week instead maybe be like you
  • 00:17:27
know what I have this reliable cookwell
  • 00:17:30
monthly income I'm just going to foro
  • 00:17:32
the sponsor this month around because I
  • 00:17:34
know that more a lot of people may sign
  • 00:17:36
up with the app and I I have existing
  • 00:17:38
    people existing recurring Revenue that's
  • 00:17:40
coming in so that's like a big piece of
  • 00:17:43
all this we need to be able to support
  • 00:17:45
creators so we can help them focus on
  • 00:17:48
    continually making great content and
  • 00:17:50
releasing it for all of you guys because
  • 00:17:52
like I said earlier that's one of my
  • 00:17:53
favorite things is I like just releasing
  • 00:17:55
it and like I don't know how many people
  • 00:17:56
it's going to reach maybe it only
  • 00:17:58
reaches you know 100,000 or 50,000 or a
  • 00:18:00
    couple hundred thousand sometimes it
  • 00:18:02
reaches millions and that is like one of
  • 00:18:06
the greatest things that like content
  • 00:18:08
creators do is being able to make
  • 00:18:10
    something that you're passionate about
  • 00:18:12
and just sharing it with the world and
  • 00:18:13
you never know who you're going to reach
  • 00:18:14
so that's kind of number one and then
  • 00:18:17
obviously we're going to use the revenue
  • 00:18:18
to make the companion app better and
  • 00:18:20
better over time we want to build out
  • 00:18:21
the features we already have so many
  • 00:18:23
other ideas of things that we can build
  • 00:18:25
outside of those four I kind of outlined
  • 00:18:27
but obviously we need that Revenue to
  • 00:18:29
continually make that thing better and
  • 00:18:30
better over over every single month then
  • 00:18:33
additionally it's not just up to
  • 00:18:35
creators to create the content cookwell
  • 00:18:37
as a kind of entity again try to
  • 00:18:39
separate the two don't think of just me
  • 00:18:42
but I would love to continually building
  • 00:18:44
out and get like a cookwell kitchen
  • 00:18:45
where we have like maybe a food
  • 00:18:47
scientist or two on staff so we can
  • 00:18:49
continually build out cookwell decom the
  • 00:18:52
recipes on there and we want to keep
  • 00:18:54
that completely ad free like I I want to
  • 00:18:56
continually update the recipes there and
  • 00:18:58
make it a free resource for everyone
  • 00:19:00
around the world so there's so many
  • 00:19:02
things that really I think we can do if
  • 00:19:05
we make this model correctly and I don't
  • 00:19:08
    know we'll we'll see what happened I
  • 00:19:10
have never felt like that this needs to
  • 00:19:13
exist like I've asked myself so many
  • 00:19:14
times like do we actually need to build
  • 00:19:17
this like would this actually make the
  • 00:19:18
world a better place and I really think
  • 00:19:21
it would I think it would deliver so
  • 00:19:22
much value across everyone to home Cooks
  • 00:19:25
to creators to cook well and we can keep
  • 00:19:28
this thing rolling Rowling and really
  • 00:19:29
bring like home cooking to this place
  • 00:19:32
where it's it's really never been before
  • 00:19:35
so over the next couple months we' got
  • 00:19:36
to talk with creators and figure out if
  • 00:19:39
they want to be a part of this so if
  • 00:19:40
there's any if there's any creators
  • 00:19:41
watching this video drop a comment down
  • 00:19:43
below if not I'll reach I'll reach out
  • 00:19:45
probably in the next next few months
  • 00:19:46
here um and if any people are watching
  • 00:19:50
let me know of creators who you might
  • 00:19:52
think will be a good fit for this we'll
  • 00:19:54
probably need to start with a few people
  • 00:19:56
in the beginning and then we can build
  • 00:19:57
    out from there but
  • 00:19:59
I don't know sky the limit and then the
  • 00:20:01
second thing holding us back now is kind
  • 00:20:03
of funding so up to now like we've been
  • 00:20:06
able to fund everything really through
  • 00:20:08
this channel the ad Revenue the
  • 00:20:11
sponsorship deals um but it's a really
  • 00:20:14
small team it's myself and there's two
  • 00:20:15
    other full-time people like specifically
  • 00:20:18
on just cookwell so we're a really small
  • 00:20:21
team and yeah hopefully you can tell the
  • 00:20:23
scope of this has gotten a lot bigger
  • 00:20:27
than like a a small team can do like we
  • 00:20:29
need to hire more people to like
  • 00:20:33
technically from a you know engineering
  • 00:20:35
level be able to build this um so like
  • 00:20:38
I'm kind of at that point where like I
  • 00:20:39
can't like I can't hire any more people
  • 00:20:42
so funding is another thing we're we're
  • 00:20:44
trying to figure that out I think I
  • 00:20:46
would like to see if we could do a
  • 00:20:48
Kickstarter so let me know down in the
  • 00:20:49
comments if you guys would be open to
  • 00:20:52
doing a Kickstarter and and would be you
  • 00:20:54
know helping us support this and getting
  • 00:20:55
it off the ground um and then if if a
  • 00:20:59
Kickstarter doesn't work like I'm down
  • 00:21:01
to see if we can go maybe like Venture
  • 00:21:04
Capital route um I'd like to avoid that
  • 00:21:06
if we can just because when you bring in
  • 00:21:09
an outside investor and maybe they have
  • 00:21:10
a slightly different vision and they
  • 00:21:13
want to get value out of the
  • 00:21:16
investment which like I don't know can
  • 00:21:19
just get messy and like this like this
  • 00:21:21
whole cookwell thing is solely for home
  • 00:21:24
cooks and to help support all of you
  • 00:21:26
guys and help you feed yourself every
  • 00:21:28
single Day so I'd kind of like to avoid
  • 00:21:30
that if we can um but I'll have some
  • 00:21:33
more information on that in 2025
  • 00:21:35
probably but yeah other than that I
  • 00:21:37
would just love to know your thoughts on
  • 00:21:38
all of this that was probably a lot of
  • 00:21:40
    information hopefully it was fairly
  • 00:21:42
cohesive like you said there's so much
  • 00:21:44
behind the scenes work that like has
  • 00:21:46
just been going on in addition to like
  • 00:21:49
just this YouTube channel but I really
  • 00:21:51
could not be more excited about the
  • 00:21:54
possibilities of what we can build and
  • 00:21:57
to get it into all of your hands just
  • 00:21:59
because like you know I've heard from
  • 00:22:01
you guys the past five six seven years
  • 00:22:03
now and like I I feel like I hear the
  • 00:22:06
same problems over and over and over
  • 00:22:08
again about you know pain points and
  • 00:22:11
problems and content types and and
  • 00:22:13
really I feel like currently today
  • 00:22:15
there's not a solution that is really
  • 00:22:17
trying to approach this from like how do
  • 00:22:20
we help home Cooks feed themselves every
  • 00:22:22
single day and repeat that process every
  • 00:22:25
single day but anyway now it's time to
  • 00:22:26
get into the Q&A um I pulled out out
  • 00:22:28
some questions so let me grab a drink of
  • 00:22:30
water my voice is a little parched um
  • 00:22:32
and I'll be right back little afternoon
  • 00:22:35
ice coffee little petme up let's get
  • 00:22:37
into these questions so yeah I just
  • 00:22:39
picked out a few of these several of
  • 00:22:41
them some are quicker some are going to
  • 00:22:42
take a little bit longer so we'll just
  • 00:22:44
we'll just kind of hop right into them
  • 00:22:46
um first two are kind of related so what
  • 00:22:48
made you pivot from the recipe based
  • 00:22:50
content on the main channel to more Deep
  • 00:22:53
dive content and then similarly how did
  • 00:22:55
you come to the current video format
  • 00:22:57
where it's purely deep guys rather than
  • 00:22:59
you know recipe based content like a lot
  • 00:23:01
of cooking channels so from the
  • 00:23:03
beginning none of this was intentional
  • 00:23:05
at all I basically just asked questions
  • 00:23:08
and was interested in making these
  • 00:23:10
videos um that that's something for me
  • 00:23:13
that every video on the channel you see
  • 00:23:15
is I am personally interested in making
  • 00:23:19
the video like it starts with a question
  • 00:23:20
I have myself and then I I genuinely do
  • 00:23:24
want to figure it out um you know a lot
  • 00:23:26
of other big YouTube channels like
  • 00:23:29
they may do a big ideation process and
  • 00:23:31
it's like here's like the what the title
  • 00:23:33
would be here's what the thumbnail would
  • 00:23:34
be and then you kind of make the video
  • 00:23:36
after the fact I'm the complete opposite
  • 00:23:38
where I the video for me and like what
  • 00:23:41
we're going to talk about is by far the
  • 00:23:43
most important piece I don't really care
  • 00:23:44
about like the thumbnail or the title if
  • 00:23:46
I didn't have to worry about those like
  • 00:23:48
I mean that's kind of my least favorite
  • 00:23:49
part about YouTube is like title and
  • 00:23:51
thumbnail stuff I genuinely love getting
  • 00:23:54
into these details and just asking
  • 00:23:55
myself questions about food and I think
  • 00:23:58
one of the first deep Dives was that Sam
  • 00:23:59
arzano tomato video where it's just like
  • 00:24:02
I asked myself you know why does
  • 00:24:05
everyone say that you should buy San
  • 00:24:06
Marzano tomatoes and I was kind of
  • 00:24:08
wondering well how different are they
  • 00:24:10
really you know and a lot of maybe the
  • 00:24:14
Articles or books that you see out there
  • 00:24:16
on them they never really show anybody
  • 00:24:18
testing anything they may have done
  • 00:24:19
testing but they never show you kind of
  • 00:24:22
what maybe their reactions are and it
  • 00:24:23
and it feels like this very like like if
  • 00:24:26
you just get a list of like the top
  • 00:24:28
canned tomatoes it feels like this very
  • 00:24:30
clear binary decision where it's like ah
  • 00:24:32
this is just the best however as I found
  • 00:24:35
out in that first video I was like well
  • 00:24:38
there are definitely differences in them
  • 00:24:39
and I think one of the big differences
  • 00:24:41
that we learned in that video is that
  • 00:24:42
cans with tomato puree are definitely a
  • 00:24:44
little bit sweeter and less acidic than
  • 00:24:46
some of the other varieties but really
  • 00:24:49
the value of that video for me is
  • 00:24:51
not to buy the best brand of tomatoes it
  • 00:24:55
is to look for certain things on the can
  • 00:24:57
and then on the CP side as well if you
  • 00:25:00
do not have access to those cans
  • 00:25:02
understanding that they might be more
  • 00:25:03
acidic you can then make adjustments so
  • 00:25:05
you could add a little bit of sugar to
  • 00:25:07
your tomato sauce or maybe some tomato
  • 00:25:09
paste and things like that um and then
  • 00:25:12
obviously that first video did well but
  • 00:25:14
it really just started from me asking
  • 00:25:16
questions and then yeah like I said I
  • 00:25:18
think over maybe the past two years like
  • 00:25:20
it's kind of just cascaded down that way
  • 00:25:23
everything starts with me asking a
  • 00:25:25
question I am personally interested I
  • 00:25:27
want to find the answers to and then I
  • 00:25:29
need to learn all of this myself to then
  • 00:25:32
be able to put it into a video that
  • 00:25:34
makes sense to all of you guys and a lot
  • 00:25:35
of my time is really just spent kind of
  • 00:25:38
thinking about reading and and looking
  • 00:25:41
at these kind of very fundamental
  • 00:25:43
concepts um so that's really how it
  • 00:25:46
    happened I there again there's not a
  • 00:25:48
specific reason why I was like I'm not
  • 00:25:49
doing recipe content anymore in fact I'm
  • 00:25:52
kind of missing recipe content so that's
  • 00:25:53
why that's mainly what I'm doing on the
  • 00:25:55
second cookwell YouTube channel and then
  • 00:25:57
eventually if we can throw that out I do
  • 00:25:59
want to go back into more recipe based
  • 00:26:03
kind of deep Dives and Cuisine deep
  • 00:26:05
Dives and things of this nature because
  • 00:26:07
now that I'm doing all these ingredient
  • 00:26:08
deep Dives I've kind of opened up
  • 00:26:10
Pandora's Box so every ingredient Deep
  • 00:26:13
dive there are a lot of fundamental
  • 00:26:16
things we find out and a lot of
  • 00:26:18
questions I have and I find a lot of
  • 00:26:19
answers to those questions but at the
  • 00:26:21
end of the Deep dive I and this might be
  • 00:26:24
true for you guys too I end up having a
  • 00:26:25
lot more questions than answers uh
  • 00:26:28
that's just the nature of how those
  • 00:26:29
videos work because we're really getting
  • 00:26:31
down to the first principles and it's
  • 00:26:33
like ooh I wonder how butter would be in
  • 00:26:37
like the croissant like that's a whole
  • 00:26:40
another video so for every Deep dive
  • 00:26:42
I've make I have about 100 video ideas
  • 00:26:46
while I'm making that based on that
  • 00:26:48
single ingredient Deep dive and for me
  • 00:26:50
right now I'm just having fun making the
  • 00:26:51
Deep Dives like every time I walk
  • 00:26:52
through the grocery store I'm looking at
  • 00:26:55
just various items and I'm like for
  • 00:26:57
example I was in the grocer store the
  • 00:26:58
other day I'm like ooh the peanut butter
  • 00:27:00
    aisle you
  • 00:27:02
know it's just seems interesting there's
  • 00:27:04
a lot of options at the peanut butter
  • 00:27:05
aisle um caviar all of these just
  • 00:27:07
    started with questions about ingredients
  • 00:27:09
that I've had and I I think a lot of
  • 00:27:11
times you know cooking is always just
  • 00:27:13
focused on like recipe based stuff but a
  • 00:27:16
lot of cooking is understanding the
  • 00:27:17
ingredients you're using so for me it
  • 00:27:19
just feels like a very useful um video
  • 00:27:22
to make because the next time I walk
  • 00:27:25
through the grocery store I Now
  • 00:27:26
    understand Tomatoes I
  • 00:27:28
    understand butter I understand how
  • 00:27:31
Coffee Works I understand how um what
  • 00:27:35
else have we done parmesan cheese and
  • 00:27:36
all these things so it really feels like
  • 00:27:39
me personally hopefully you guys feel
  • 00:27:40
this too like kind of collecting this
  • 00:27:42
knowledge and figuring out how to use it
  • 00:27:43
    and compartmentalizing it it's just
  • 00:27:45
really fun to make it's really
  • 00:27:47
fascinating and yeah I just I I love
  • 00:27:50
making the recipe deep Dice and like I
  • 00:27:52
said I have literally unlimited video
  • 00:27:54
ideas I'll never run out of ideas um
  • 00:27:56
this is another reason why I hope we can
  • 00:27:58
make cookwell work because I'd love to
  • 00:27:59
see more creators making more kind of
  • 00:28:03
    Deep dive educational content whether
  • 00:28:05
it's specific ingredients or going deep
  • 00:28:08
down rabbit holes into recipes um just
  • 00:28:11
because I literally have more ideas than
  • 00:28:13
I'll never and I'll never be able to
  • 00:28:16
make all the videos that I possibly want
  • 00:28:18
to make okay next up we have what's your
  • 00:28:21
hottest cooking take that will get you
  • 00:28:23
canceled so these aren't going to get me
  • 00:28:24
canceled but I've got a couple of takes
  • 00:28:26
I want to get off my chest here I've
  • 00:28:28
    actually been thinking about making
  • 00:28:29
videos about some of these but the first
  • 00:28:31
one that on is on the top of my mind
  • 00:28:33
right now especially with it being
  • 00:28:34
Christmas Time Is that a a RI roast or
  • 00:28:38
prime rib is just the worst possible way
  • 00:28:43
that you could use a rib roast um and
  • 00:28:45
I'll explain why that is so a rib roast
  • 00:28:49
is where ribeye staks come from right
  • 00:28:51
and you know they look amazing and I
  • 00:28:54
think that's why people like them
  • 00:28:55
they're just this very visual piece with
  • 00:28:57
like the bone sticking out and it's like
  • 00:28:59
this nice sliceable thing but the
  • 00:29:01
problem I have with rib roast is that
  • 00:29:04
you end up with basically no Browning
  • 00:29:06
and mostly what you're eating is just
  • 00:29:09
like medium rare meat with no Browning
  • 00:29:12
on it like a piece of prime rib only has
  • 00:29:15
Browning around the outside and then
  • 00:29:17
you're eating mostly just like medium
  • 00:29:19
rare meat so you have to have a sauce
  • 00:29:22
but my thing is why would you not just
  • 00:29:24
get a riye like if you want to make a
  • 00:29:26
rib roast why would you not just you
  • 00:29:28
could get a RI roast and then just slice
  • 00:29:29
it into ribe eyes and then you get
  • 00:29:30
Browning around the entire thing like
  • 00:29:32
what makes steak good is the May
  • 00:29:34
reaction and all that Browning we get on
  • 00:29:36
the outside so you're literally just
  • 00:29:38
eating this big hunk of generally
  • 00:29:40
unseasoned meat as well because it takes
  • 00:29:43
so long for the salt to move in even if
  • 00:29:45
you dry brine it that the whole RI roast
  • 00:29:47
would take two to three days for that
  • 00:29:48
salt to actually work in there so that's
  • 00:29:50
a lot of times why you also see it
  • 00:29:52
served with a sauce because you are just
  • 00:29:54
eating you know medium rare meat that
  • 00:29:58
that is also just worse texturally like
  • 00:30:00
    it's it's worse from a texture
  • 00:30:01
perspective it's worse from an aroma
  • 00:30:02
perspective you need to add a sauce to
  • 00:30:05
it so for me just RI Roos literally make
  • 00:30:08
no sense at all I understand they look
  • 00:30:09
cool and maybe a tradition and things
  • 00:30:11
like that but from a food science
  • 00:30:13
perspective I would say it's probably
  • 00:30:15
one of the worst ways that you could uh
  • 00:30:17
use that cut of meat okay second one is
  • 00:30:20
that washing rice just very overstated
  • 00:30:24
and and actually a lot of cooking this
  • 00:30:25
is maybe another take I'm working on is
  • 00:30:27
a lot of cooking advice is very
  • 00:30:30
overstated on how much it really matters
  • 00:30:32
and this is something that I've been
  • 00:30:33
thinking about a lot recently like when
  • 00:30:35
someone tells you a c a very specific
  • 00:30:37
ingredient to use or a very specific
  • 00:30:40
ratio of like a spice or a very and like
  • 00:30:43
some of this stuff does matter but a lot
  • 00:30:45
    of cooking advice is generally
  • 00:30:47
overstated um and I let me think about
  • 00:30:50
some other some other examples of that
  • 00:30:54
so I and I've definitely done this too
  • 00:30:56
like I'm I am just as guilty as this as
  • 00:30:58
anyone else especially in the early days
  • 00:31:00
um like the orbital versus uh pole tople
  • 00:31:04
cut onions like does it make a
  • 00:31:07
difference yes does it matter so much on
  • 00:31:11
like a recipe by recipe basis not that
  • 00:31:13
much like it really depends on what
  • 00:31:15
you're making do I still cut my onions
  • 00:31:18
pull to pole yes the the main reason
  • 00:31:20
though is just because I kind of like
  • 00:31:23
the texture and I don't know I just like
  • 00:31:26
but it doesn't matter as much as Maybe
  • 00:31:28
that video would make it seem and I
  • 00:31:29
think that's a bias that you really need
  • 00:31:31
to be careful about and recently in the
  • 00:31:33
Deep Dives I want to be very careful and
  • 00:31:35
I want to go in with basically no
  • 00:31:37
assumptions and I try to not give any
  • 00:31:40
bias or is it really become like just
  • 00:31:43
wide eyed and and making no assumptions
  • 00:31:45
about anything because I think that is
  • 00:31:47
one of the problems that I've done in
  • 00:31:49
the past and I think just cooking
  • 00:31:51
content in general um comes into is
  • 00:31:54
people are kind of driving towards like
  • 00:31:57
a spefic specific hypothesis and maybe
  • 00:31:59
fitting it to meet something rather than
  • 00:32:02
just giving observations which is really
  • 00:32:04
what I try to do now in these videos um
  • 00:32:06
because there are a million different
  • 00:32:08
technique changes that you can do and I
  • 00:32:10
think people have very very strongly
  • 00:32:12
held opinions about a million different
  • 00:32:15
cooking tips like let me know down in
  • 00:32:17
the comments but there are so many like
  • 00:32:19
very strongly held opinions that if you
  • 00:32:21
were to actually test a lot of this
  • 00:32:23
stuff by side you'd be like okay well
  • 00:32:24
it's not that big of a deal um so so
  • 00:32:27
that's kind of one of the takes I've
  • 00:32:28
been working on maybe I'll make a video
  • 00:32:30
on that one day and we'll make a big
  • 00:32:31
long list and not mythbust but I I could
  • 00:32:35
come up with so many examples of like
  • 00:32:36
kind of overstated cooking advice like
  • 00:32:38
washing your rice for most people and it
  • 00:32:42
really depends on how you cook it really
  • 00:32:44
not necessary at all I think maybe that
  • 00:32:46
was kind of just uh Uncle Roger just
  • 00:32:49
like just saying one talking point over
  • 00:32:51
and over and over again but that's an
  • 00:32:53
    example I mean there's there's so many
  • 00:32:55
out there so those are kind of my takes
  • 00:32:56
prime rib rib roast very overrated like
  • 00:33:00
slice it up into ribe eyes serve it that
  • 00:33:02
way it's just going to be way better um
  • 00:33:04
and then a lot of cooking over advice is
  • 00:33:05
    overstated washing rice or certain
  • 00:33:08
things so so be careful about that when
  • 00:33:09
you're watching videos or or recipes in
  • 00:33:11
that in that type of thing all right
  • 00:33:13
next up what were your biggest
  • 00:33:15
influences on how you learn to cook the
  • 00:33:16
way you do such as cookbooks um food
  • 00:33:19
writers YouTube TV all that so I think I
  • 00:33:23
originally would watch kind of food
  • 00:33:25
cooking shows like kind of classic you
  • 00:33:28
know cable So Good Eats I loved watching
  • 00:33:30
Good Eats with Alton Brown and and now
  • 00:33:32
that was like kind of a little bit full
  • 00:33:34
circle I actually met Alton earlier this
  • 00:33:36
summer and you know a lot of people will
  • 00:33:37
say like oh this kind of feels like an
  • 00:33:39
ALT Brown Show which for me I I like
  • 00:33:41
that because you know I grew up watching
  • 00:33:43
you know the good e show I also watched
  • 00:33:45
Top Chef a lot growing up like when I
  • 00:33:47
was in high school and stuff you know
  • 00:33:48
more of an entertainment show less so on
  • 00:33:50
the education side and then for YouTube
  • 00:33:53
wise I think babish was probably my
  • 00:33:55
first food cooking YouTube channel I
  • 00:33:57
think probably so many of you um and
  • 00:34:00
then non- food related though to YouTube
  • 00:34:02
was Jeff nippard so Jeff nippard has a
  • 00:34:05
kind of science approach for you know
  • 00:34:08
health and fitness and I watched a ton
  • 00:34:10
of his videos as well when I was coming
  • 00:34:12
up and I really like that idea of kind
  • 00:34:14
    of approaching things from that
  • 00:34:15
fundamental level so yeah I mean that's
  • 00:34:18
another example where you can totally
  • 00:34:19
see by like blending the the Jeff Nipper
  • 00:34:23
style that I used to watch growing up
  • 00:34:25
into some of this um and then also I I
  • 00:34:28
think I really admire currently um like
  • 00:34:31
Cleo Abram and Johnny Harris in their
  • 00:34:33
style yeah I just I feel like they're
  • 00:34:35
really good at explaining topics that's
  • 00:34:37
something I want to definitely get
  • 00:34:38
better at um so that's currently what I
  • 00:34:40
watch as far as cookbooks and stuff I
  • 00:34:43
would say on food and cooking obviously
  • 00:34:46
I still reference that one a lot Salt
  • 00:34:48
Fat acid Heat by Sim noat the Food Lab
  • 00:34:51
obviously from Kenji so those were kind
  • 00:34:53
of some of the the early influences um
  • 00:34:56
    and then recently
  • 00:34:58
    I've kind of I don't really I don't
  • 00:35:01
really read or watch much cooking or
  • 00:35:03
    food related stuff anymore because
  • 00:35:06
really I've been trying one of the
  • 00:35:09
things we've been building for on
  • 00:35:10
cook.com for example is the the flavor
  • 00:35:12
framework and and trying to approach it
  • 00:35:14
from that fundamental level because one
  • 00:35:16
of the problems I had when we were going
  • 00:35:17
into deep Dives is I realized I was I
  • 00:35:20
was always talking about these Concepts
  • 00:35:23
like oh when we're talking vanilla we're
  • 00:35:24
really just talking about the smell
  • 00:35:25
we're not talking about taste and and
  • 00:35:27
things of that nature nature um so I
  • 00:35:28
kept running into this issue where it
  • 00:35:29
was hard for me to put into words what I
  • 00:35:32
was trying to describe from ingredient
  • 00:35:34
to ingredient so in the past what I was
  • 00:35:37
doing was just kind of reading stuff and
  • 00:35:39
then trying to piece everything together
  • 00:35:40
and coming up with different tests but
  • 00:35:42
now now that we have the fundamentals I
  • 00:35:44
approach it from the fundamentals we're
  • 00:35:46
trying to build on cookwell so what are
  • 00:35:48
the fundamentals of flavor it is taste
  • 00:35:50
it is aroma it's texture it is the
  • 00:35:52
physical element it's human it is sight
  • 00:35:55
and trying to really break down
  • 00:35:56
    ingredients from that level
  • 00:35:58
and then additionally to that we had to
  • 00:36:00
figure out how do you actually how is
  • 00:36:03
flavor created like what like what are
  • 00:36:05
so for Taste it's like you know
  • 00:36:07
molecules and things are hitting your
  • 00:36:08
tongue so we're like oh we need to talk
  • 00:36:09
about molecules because the molecules in
  • 00:36:12
food dictate what type of reactions they
  • 00:36:14
can go through in cooking those
  • 00:36:16
reactions dictate how the molecules can
  • 00:36:19
change which ultimately is what turns
  • 00:36:21
into the taste the aroma the texture and
  • 00:36:23
all these various things so that really
  • 00:36:27
has change a lot I've really just been
  • 00:36:28
    approaching things from maybe a
  • 00:36:30
classical like kind of philosophy or
  • 00:36:32
science-based method where it's what are
  • 00:36:34
the first principles of what we're
  • 00:36:36
talking about and then build it up from
  • 00:36:38
there so really building up from the
  • 00:36:40
ground up so I really don't read a lot
  • 00:36:42
of uh kind of cookbooks or like watch a
  • 00:36:45
lot of YouTube videos or other videos
  • 00:36:47
anymore just because I need to a to be
  • 00:36:50
able to understand the topics I'm
  • 00:36:53
talking about I really need to start at
  • 00:36:54
like the Bare Bones like okay butter is
  • 00:36:58
80% fat 15% water you know one 1%
  • 00:37:03
protein and then we got to build up from
  • 00:37:04
there and then that is where I may read
  • 00:37:07
studies and articles and things of that
  • 00:37:08
nature so that's really changed a lot
  • 00:37:10
over the year I definitely consume much
  • 00:37:12
less you know kind of cooking YouTube
  • 00:37:14
food YouTube than than I used to um
  • 00:37:16
mainly just because I'm kind of needing
  • 00:37:19
to build and and do the research in in
  • 00:37:21
    information myself to understand it
  • 00:37:24
because a lot of it is not really
  • 00:37:26
approaching it from like that groundup
  • 00:37:28
level and I think that actually brings
  • 00:37:30
me to the next question I think someone
  • 00:37:33
asked so Austin asked what's the most
  • 00:37:35
    timeconsuming part of your process
  • 00:37:37
making Deep dive videos always impressed
  • 00:37:39
with the amount of research makes me
  • 00:37:40
curious how much is kind of going on
  • 00:37:41
behind the scenes that that we don't
  • 00:37:44
see yeah so by far the most time spent
  • 00:37:48
on deep Dives is really like thinking
  • 00:37:52
    reading asking myself questions
  • 00:37:55
repeating that process over and over
  • 00:37:57
over again and then slowly building it
  • 00:38:01
into what are some things that we should
  • 00:38:03
test what should we talk about in the
  • 00:38:05
script and then that takes a lot of the
  • 00:38:08
time and then as I'm writing out the
  • 00:38:10
script I am visually thinking in my
  • 00:38:14
brain how we're going to turn this into
  • 00:38:15
    a video
  • 00:38:17
um and as far as each video it really
  • 00:38:21
depends on the amount of time so an
  • 00:38:23
example of a video that took so much
  • 00:38:25
time to think through in research was
  • 00:38:27
the coffee video it took me a few months
  • 00:38:29
probably we had the idea a long time ago
  • 00:38:32
I was like oh yeah we should definitely
  • 00:38:33
do a you know video about coffee or like
  • 00:38:36
coffee brewing and things of that nature
  • 00:38:38
but then as I got into it I just there's
  • 00:38:41
millions of rabbit holes like I said the
  • 00:38:43
nature of the Deep dive videos is it
  • 00:38:45
starts with a very simple question and
  • 00:38:47
then each of those questions has like
  • 00:38:49
five more questions that could each lead
  • 00:38:52
to five more so one of the hard part
  • 00:38:54
about making the Deep Dives is like
  • 00:38:56
where do you explain certain areas or
  • 00:38:59
where do you kind of strip back so a lot
  • 00:39:01
of videos even though some of them may
  • 00:39:03
    seem pretty complex they're generally
  • 00:39:06
stripped back to a level that I feel
  • 00:39:09
    comfortable communicating and this is
  • 00:39:11
still a work in progress like the Deep
  • 00:39:13
Dives are mentally very challenging a
  • 00:39:16
lot of the times like we'll do I have a
  • 00:39:17
bunch of research and then I'll just
  • 00:39:18
need to like passively sit with it like
  • 00:39:21
I'm not just on my computer grinding out
  • 00:39:23
the script like it's like okay I've done
  • 00:39:25
some deep work writing now I just kind
  • 00:39:27
of need to passively think about it like
  • 00:39:28
when I'm going for a walk when I'm
  • 00:39:30
working out when I'm going to a coffee
  • 00:39:33
shop or whatever I just need to kind of
  • 00:39:35
have those ideas floating around in my
  • 00:39:36
head and then generally again then I'll
  • 00:39:38
come back and can read through what
  • 00:39:40
we've talked about what we've scripted
  • 00:39:41
out um or there's tests that we've done
  • 00:39:46
so in general there's kind of four
  • 00:39:47
stages where it's just kind of research
  • 00:39:50
asking questions ideation of the tests
  • 00:39:54
then from there it's like okay let's
  • 00:39:56
    probably do some testing
  • 00:39:58
and kind of piece together what the
  • 00:39:59
script may look like and then that can
  • 00:40:02
happen for several days it's man I I
  • 00:40:04
wish I had a better answer we're getting
  • 00:40:05
better now now that we have kind of this
  • 00:40:08
clear Direction this is something I've
  • 00:40:10
really been working on because visually
  • 00:40:12
these videos are very hard it's not like
  • 00:40:15
you know I think other channels may have
  • 00:40:17
like a format for their videos where
  • 00:40:18
it's like you just kind of insert new
  • 00:40:20
    topic and
  • 00:40:22
go for each Deep dive topic it depends
  • 00:40:25
on the concept of the the food item that
  • 00:40:28
we're talking about what matters and
  • 00:40:30
what doesn't so when we're talking about
  • 00:40:33
coffee like Aroma is very important
  • 00:40:35
taste is also important but then
  • 00:40:37
understanding all these little things of
  • 00:40:39
how the aroma changes is really
  • 00:40:41
important and we got to talk a lot more
  • 00:40:42
about you know the processing and how
  • 00:40:45
it's harvested and how it's roasted and
  • 00:40:47
there's so much that goes into that
  • 00:40:49
versus something that is simpler like
  • 00:40:50
caviar caviar is a raw material that
  • 00:40:53
comes from Sturgeon and its eggs and you
  • 00:40:56
don't really cook with sturgeon you kind
  • 00:40:57
of just scoop it out you know it's salty
  • 00:41:00
and Briney and that was one of the
  • 00:41:03
things in that video it's like all of
  • 00:41:05
it's kind of salty and Briney and it it
  • 00:41:07
does taste different but in no way would
  • 00:41:09
I I would not advise going out and
  • 00:41:12
buying like a two or three or $400 tin
  • 00:41:14
of sturgeon like for your first time
  • 00:41:16
just go get a cheap one and see if you
  • 00:41:18
like it um but but that's an example
  • 00:41:20
where it's just we're talking kind of
  • 00:41:22
taste and and Aroma and like I can't
  • 00:41:24
cook with caviar so it's just much
  • 00:41:26
    simpler to do
  • 00:41:28
um so yeah they're they're always a work
  • 00:41:30
in progress like again I have so many
  • 00:41:33
ideas for deep deep Dives and that's why
  • 00:41:35
like I hope we can make more of them but
  • 00:41:37
a lot of my time is just spent like
  • 00:41:40
    asking myself all these questions
  • 00:41:41
    approaching them from a fundamental
  • 00:41:43
level and trying to build it back up
  • 00:41:45
thinking about tests that we can do that
  • 00:41:47
can explain and get to these
  • 00:41:49
    fundamentals that we're talking about
  • 00:41:51
and then ultimately help explain this
  • 00:41:53
ingredient to all of you guys where if
  • 00:41:55
you using it in your cocer if you're in
  • 00:41:57
the grocery store you can understand the
  • 00:41:59
    underlying principles of the ingredient
  • 00:42:01
rather than just looking for a specific
  • 00:42:03
brand because for me the value in those
  • 00:42:06
videos is not go bu XYZ brand because
  • 00:42:10
    it's the best I I think that's just
  • 00:42:12
    pointless because surely there's more
  • 00:42:14
than one brand in the world that is is
  • 00:42:15
worth buying whether it's butter you
  • 00:42:18
know milk tomatoes whatever so my goal
  • 00:42:20
is to always break it down to its
  • 00:42:22
    fundamental components and really give
  • 00:42:23
you that information I don't want to be
  • 00:42:25
like judge jury exec tioner of here is
  • 00:42:28
the best brand to buy go buy it and
  • 00:42:30
that's going to solve all your problems
  • 00:42:32
because that's not going to you need to
  • 00:42:33
understand how the ingredient Works how
  • 00:42:35
it works in cooking and how it creates
  • 00:42:37
the flavor of the particular ingredient
  • 00:42:40
um so yeah I don't know if that was a
  • 00:42:42
    good
  • 00:42:43
answer next Q&A I will have a better
  • 00:42:46
answer and I will try to come up with a
  • 00:42:48
more defined workflow but for example
  • 00:42:50
some of these notion docs I I'll pop up
  • 00:42:53
maybe the word count 95% like scripted
  • 00:42:57
    out completely like I'm writing
  • 00:42:59
everything just because if I'm going to
  • 00:43:00
talk about these thoughts I need to be
  • 00:43:02
able to write them down because I'm just
  • 00:43:04
going to be stumbling over my words if
  • 00:43:06
I'm trying to talk about the May
  • 00:43:09
reaction and how it's different in
  • 00:43:11
coffee and pyrolysis and all these other
  • 00:43:13
things that are going on so I need to be
  • 00:43:15
able to write it out very succinctly so
  • 00:43:17
    these scripts are massive absolutely
  • 00:43:20
massive um but yeah I'll I'll get a
  • 00:43:22
    better answer uh next time
  • 00:43:25
around okay next up what what's been
  • 00:43:27
your favorite recipe SLV video of the
  • 00:43:30
Year I'll start with favorite recipe and
  • 00:43:32
this is not well actually a video is
  • 00:43:35
coming out on the cookwell channel for
  • 00:43:36
beef friend dang that is the I made it
  • 00:43:39
probably six or seven months ago for the
  • 00:43:41
first time beef friend D unbelievably
  • 00:43:44
good and I would highly recommend all of
  • 00:43:45
you try making at home it's really easy
  • 00:43:47
to make you just need to find lemongrass
  • 00:43:49
and gongle are kind of the the hard
  • 00:43:51
ingredients to find but an unbelievable
  • 00:43:53
recipe um so it's kind of my favorite
  • 00:43:56
new recipe again no Deep dive video or
  • 00:43:58
anything that's been done on that as far
  • 00:44:00
as my favorite Deep dive video of the
  • 00:44:03
year um the most challenging was coffee
  • 00:44:06
    for
  • 00:44:07
    sure uh the most surprising
  • 00:44:13
one was maybe caviar I just I don't know
  • 00:44:18
maybe I'm just not a big caviar fan but
  • 00:44:21
    I thought it would
  • 00:44:22
be better and more interesting than it
  • 00:44:25
was and then when I tasted I was like
  • 00:44:27
maybe I'm just maybe I'm just not a big
  • 00:44:29
caviar guy um as far as the one I'm most
  • 00:44:32
satisfied with definitely kind of the
  • 00:44:35
past couple I feel like we've really
  • 00:44:37
gotten the structure down a little bit
  • 00:44:40
better when it becomes like me being
  • 00:44:43
able to script it out a little bit more
  • 00:44:44
cohesively and then also Spencer my
  • 00:44:47
editor and I we kind of getting in a
  • 00:44:49
little bit better flow with kind of how
  • 00:44:51
we're showing graphics and making them a
  • 00:44:52
little bit more consistent from video to
  • 00:44:54
video because another thing that I
  • 00:44:56
really want to be able to convey is to
  • 00:44:58
give you that sense of place with flavor
  • 00:45:01
so if you realize we constantly kind of
  • 00:45:03
mention other other Deep dive videos in
  • 00:45:05
the Deep dive like I think in the butter
  • 00:45:07
video we mentioned the salt Deep dive
  • 00:45:09
and I want to be able to do that so I
  • 00:45:13
think the most recent one is probably
  • 00:45:14
the one I'm most satisfied with overall
  • 00:45:17
    but that'll probably
  • 00:45:19
be that'll probably just happen for the
  • 00:45:22
for the rest of time okay so I think
  • 00:45:23
I'll round this out with how did I get
  • 00:45:25
into cooking and how did I kind of
  • 00:45:27
become a food YouTuber because I think I
  • 00:45:29
mentioned this maybe at my 100K video
  • 00:45:32
which was probably like three or four
  • 00:45:34
years ago at this point but I haven't
  • 00:45:35
really talked about it for anyone that
  • 00:45:36
    might be new here
  • 00:45:38
so uh how I got into cooking when I was
  • 00:45:42
younger was my grandma so she would
  • 00:45:43
always like do Bak Goods um like bread
  • 00:45:47
rolls bellish some other polish recipes
  • 00:45:49
and every time she came visited us or we
  • 00:45:52
went to visit her she would always make
  • 00:45:53
these and I just love the food um so
  • 00:45:57
what got me into cooking is I wanted to
  • 00:45:59
be able to recreate this stuff when
  • 00:46:01
without having to go visit her or
  • 00:46:02
without having to wait until she came
  • 00:46:04
visit us around the holidays so that's
  • 00:46:06
really how I got into cooking um and got
  • 00:46:09
it you know for the first time and then
  • 00:46:11
over time you know kind of through
  • 00:46:12
Middle School and High School both my
  • 00:46:13
parents basically cooked us you know a
  • 00:46:16
homemade meal every single night like my
  • 00:46:18
parents they're they're not chefs or
  • 00:46:20
anything um they they just happen to
  • 00:46:22
like cooking and you know grew up
  • 00:46:25
cooking from cookbooks and and things of
  • 00:46:27
this nature um you know I have three
  • 00:46:29
brothers so they would kind of cook
  • 00:46:30
every night so it just was a very normal
  • 00:46:32
    thing in my
  • 00:46:34
family like to be cooking so naturally
  • 00:46:37
like we would kind of help out with
  • 00:46:38
dinner as we got older and then when I
  • 00:46:40
got into college it was just like well
  • 00:46:43
I'm just going to cook because like
  • 00:46:44
that's what I know how to do so I do all
  • 00:46:46
my shopping um there was probably a year
  • 00:46:49
or two where uh my roommates and I like
  • 00:46:52
I would do all the cooking for my
  • 00:46:53
roommates and they would just clean up
  • 00:46:55
um it's just so it's just something that
  • 00:46:57
always always done and then what got me
  • 00:47:00
into YouTube was actually because of my
  • 00:47:03
first job so I graduated from NC State
  • 00:47:05
with an accounting degree of all things
  • 00:47:06
um if you believe that um and I went to
  • 00:47:09
work for deoe in Consulting and then in
  • 00:47:12
Consulting I was traveling every you
  • 00:47:15
    know Monday through Friday literally
  • 00:47:17
just the entire time like a lot of
  • 00:47:20
different cities it was fun in the
  • 00:47:21
beginning and then the the travel kind
  • 00:47:23
of wore on me it just like you're like I
  • 00:47:24
don't want to wake up for another you
  • 00:47:26
know 6:00 a.m. Monday flight and then
  • 00:47:28
fly back late Thursday night and repeat
  • 00:47:30
that process every week and because of
  • 00:47:32
that I was just missing cooking I I
  • 00:47:33
wasn't able to cook Monday through
  • 00:47:35
Thursday and then like on the weekend
  • 00:47:37
I'd just be like kind of tired like I
  • 00:47:39
don't even feel like cooking anymore so
  • 00:47:41
starting the YouTube channel was kind of
  • 00:47:43
a creative outlet that got me back into
  • 00:47:45
    cooking and I was like o I've I'm going
  • 00:47:47
to come home on Thursday night and then
  • 00:47:50
work Friday and then Saturday and Sunday
  • 00:47:52
like I'm going to figure out a video to
  • 00:47:54
make and then I ended up completely
  • 00:47:56
falling in love with that process um I
  • 00:47:58
posted like one video a year got to 900
  • 00:48:01
subscribers and then decided to quit my
  • 00:48:02
job at deoe so you know most people
  • 00:48:05
would not advise that route um I had not
  • 00:48:07
made a scent off of anything I had 900
  • 00:48:09
followers but for me I'm very much of
  • 00:48:12
like I need to know and I want a cut
  • 00:48:15
point where it's like I either want to
  • 00:48:16
know that I genuinely like this and and
  • 00:48:19
can make it work or if it doesn't you
  • 00:48:21
know I'll go back and get a job and that
  • 00:48:23
was why I decided to to leave deoe I was
  • 00:48:26
just like well I'm kind of looking at
  • 00:48:27
switching jobs or maybe I'll go back and
  • 00:48:29
get my MBA or or My Ms in something and
  • 00:48:32
I was like well I really like this
  • 00:48:34
YouTube thing what if I just spent a
  • 00:48:36
year or two and just see what happened
  • 00:48:38
so that's what I did I quit my job I
  • 00:48:40
moved back home um and started posting
  • 00:48:44
like two to three times a week for the
  • 00:48:46
next probably year and then I felt like
  • 00:48:49
I was get making better videos but you
  • 00:48:52
know didn't have anything go crazy I
  • 00:48:53
    think so from Z 0000 to Z W from 2018 to
  • 00:48:58
2019 this would have been 900 followers
  • 00:49:01
    from 2019 to 2020 probably around 15,000
  • 00:49:05
followers and I was making a little bit
  • 00:49:07
of money through ad revenue and and that
  • 00:49:09
thing and then covid hit and then I
  • 00:49:11
think June 2020 I moved out to
  • 00:49:14
California uh with one of my best
  • 00:49:16
friends and I was actually looking at
  • 00:49:19
    getting potentially a part-time job
  • 00:49:21
because I was like I'm making like a
  • 00:49:23
little bit of money but like I don't
  • 00:49:24
want to dip further into my savings that
  • 00:49:26
had from deoe um but I was like all
  • 00:49:28
right let me just live the first month
  • 00:49:30
out in California and we'll see what
  • 00:49:32
happens and then literally I think 3
  • 00:49:34
weeks after I moved out there I had
  • 00:49:36
several videos kind of Spike off off one
  • 00:49:39
of one another and literally like
  • 00:49:42
overnight it turned into Enough To You
  • 00:49:44
Know cover rent and basically be
  • 00:49:46
full-time income and then I was like oh
  • 00:49:49
dang like let's just keep this thing
  • 00:49:51
rolling so that's kind of what I did for
  • 00:49:53
the next couple of years um and then
  • 00:49:58
probably 16 or 17 months ago or after I
  • 00:50:01
    moved to
  • 00:50:02
California um I didn't really know like
  • 00:50:06
where I wanted to take the channel or
  • 00:50:07
what I wanted to do and I I wanted to do
  • 00:50:09
kind of travel content and and make
  • 00:50:11
better and deeper dive not deep dive in
  • 00:50:13
the sense that we're making them today
  • 00:50:15
but my idea was to like go spend a full
  • 00:50:17
year abroad and be making videos so what
  • 00:50:19
I actually did was I went to France I
  • 00:50:20
gave up my apartment I had no like
  • 00:50:22
residence in the US the plan was to do 3
  • 00:50:25
months in France and then 3 months in
  • 00:50:26
    another probably European country 3
  • 00:50:29
months 3 months um but when I got over
  • 00:50:31
to France I realized it was really hard
  • 00:50:35
to make the level of quality of video
  • 00:50:37
that I wanted to make while being abroad
  • 00:50:40
and I I ended up just spending a lot of
  • 00:50:42
time in the apartments um and was just
  • 00:50:44
like man I I want to make these videos
  • 00:50:46
but I need to figure out a better way to
  • 00:50:48
do it and make this sustainable because
  • 00:50:50
I don't want to make kind of generic
  • 00:50:53
like travel or Vlog videos like I want
  • 00:50:55
to get in into deeper topics and it was
  • 00:50:58
hard to do that while I was broad
  • 00:51:01
so that trip really changed a lot for me
  • 00:51:05
and and made me think about a lot more
  • 00:51:08
about the future of like what I want to
  • 00:51:10
do as as kind of like a food YouTuber if
  • 00:51:12
you will um and that's really like
  • 00:51:15
that's kind of the Nexus of what led me
  • 00:51:17
down this whole cookwell path and and
  • 00:51:19
trying to think about a way that I could
  • 00:51:22
make it in the beginning it was just
  • 00:51:24
like I want to make this more
  • 00:51:25
sustainable for myself where I don't
  • 00:51:27
need to like worry about like all these
  • 00:51:29
brand deals and I don't need to worry
  • 00:51:30
about like or or make or or I don't need
  • 00:51:33
to worry about having a brand deal on
  • 00:51:34
every single video or I'm not so tied to
  • 00:51:37
like well if this video doesn't do well
  • 00:51:40
    that's a big risk and I don't want to
  • 00:51:42
have to spend you know and like that was
  • 00:51:44
a genuine thing of the time because I
  • 00:51:45
was like man I'm spending a lot of money
  • 00:51:46
on in like France and like the
  • 00:51:48
apartments aren't cheap or the airbnbs
  • 00:51:50
and I was just like man this I don't
  • 00:51:52
know if this is the right path for me um
  • 00:51:55
so that's kind of what L me down to this
  • 00:51:57
you know past year or two where we've
  • 00:52:00
really been vetting out cookwell and
  • 00:52:01
trying to figure out like how could we
  • 00:52:03
make something that like I fully believe
  • 00:52:06
in and I want to tell you guys about
  • 00:52:09
like I want to build it for you it's
  • 00:52:11
valuable and it can also support content
  • 00:52:14
that I can just continually release
  • 00:52:16
without yeah without just feeling like I
  • 00:52:18
need to chase like views and money and
  • 00:52:21
these things like I just don't want to
  • 00:52:22
do that I just want to make videos that
  • 00:52:24
I find very interesting and make them
  • 00:52:27
    hopefully interesting and educational
  • 00:52:29
for all of you um and that's kind of
  • 00:52:31
where I'm at like you know I don't like
  • 00:52:34
    if cookwell
  • 00:52:36
works like I couldn't be more excited
  • 00:52:38
but if it doesn't work like I'm happy
  • 00:52:41
just just making videos and kind of
  • 00:52:42
hanging out so I either want to kind of
  • 00:52:45
take the big swing and and strike out or
  • 00:52:47
if we hit it out great and then we can
  • 00:52:49
help a lot of other creators in the
  • 00:52:50
process and help all of you homecooks in
  • 00:52:52
the process um but if it doesn't work
  • 00:52:55
you know I I think I'll be like pretty
  • 00:52:57
happy that I at least tried to do it and
  • 00:53:00
you know I can always like just continue
  • 00:53:03
making videos that I love making so I
  • 00:53:05
think that's a good good spot to end
  • 00:53:07
this video um hopefully you guys are
  • 00:53:09
    having a had a good year uh I'm I'm
  • 00:53:12
really excited for 2025 and 2026 and
  • 00:53:15
Beyond um really thinking about this in
  • 00:53:17
in terms of decades now uh but yeah
  • 00:53:20
hopefully you guys enjoyed this video
  • 00:53:21
hopefully you guys have a good holiday
  • 00:53:22
hopefully you have a good New Year um
  • 00:53:24
let me know down in the comments
  • 00:53:27
about anything related to this video I
  • 00:53:29
    don't know I don't know where we're
  • 00:53:30
going to end but anyway that would wrap
  • 00:53:31
it up for me in this one I will catch
  • 00:53:32
you all in the next one peace y'all
