- 00:00:21summer in june of 2020
- 00:00:22and i have been able to grow it pretty
- 00:00:25decently i would say
- 00:00:26in the past almost six months it'll be
- 00:00:28six months next week so i technically
- 00:00:30i'm not at the six month mark yet but
- 00:00:32i've been able to grow my brand to over
- 00:00:3310 000 followers
- 00:00:34on instagram i've gotten over 400 orders
- 00:00:37and it's all been
- 00:00:38within the time span of five months so i
- 00:00:40want to share with you guys my
- 00:00:41strategies how i came up with everything
- 00:00:43how i managed to gain an
- 00:00:45audience so that hopefully you guys can
- 00:00:47start your businesses and be equally as
- 00:00:49successful if not more
- 00:00:50so to make sure i cover everything i
- 00:00:52asked you guys on instagram to send me
- 00:00:53some questions of what you want me to
- 00:00:54cover
- 00:00:55i'm gonna kind of integrate them into my
- 00:00:56topics i'm also going to leave each
- 00:00:58topic and kind of the questions covered
- 00:00:59in the description with the timestamp of
- 00:01:01when it starts in case you want to
- 00:01:03only watch the marketing part of it if
- 00:01:05you want to watch financial part of it
- 00:01:07or whatever it is you want to get out of
- 00:01:09it if there's a certain part of it i'm
- 00:01:10going to leave all the time stamps down
- 00:01:11below
- 00:01:12so you can skip ahead if you would like
- 00:01:13to because i have a feeling this might
- 00:01:14be a very long video but
- 00:01:16i want to make sure that i put in all
- 00:01:17the information possible and really give
- 00:01:19you guys everything you want to know
- 00:01:20so i don't want to cut it too short
- 00:01:22either so that's that without further
- 00:01:24ado
- 00:01:24let's get into it so step number one
- 00:01:28let's talk about the concept
- 00:01:29that is obviously the most important
- 00:01:31part of starting a business is just
- 00:01:32knowing like what your business is
- 00:01:34what are you doing what is your concept
- 00:01:36what is your product why are you
- 00:01:37starting a business
- 00:01:38why do you want to do this all these
- 00:01:40things all these questions are really
- 00:01:41important to ask yourself
- 00:01:43when you're first starting off for me
- 00:01:44personally i've always known i wanted to
- 00:01:46start a business it wasn't anything new
- 00:01:47and out of the blue at all for me it's
- 00:01:49something that i've known for a very
- 00:01:51very long time
- 00:01:52i didn't think that the time i started
- 00:01:54was gonna be the time that i would start
- 00:01:55i did not have that in mind at all but
- 00:01:57it is something that i've known i've
- 00:01:58always wanted to do if that makes any
- 00:02:00sense i graduated from the fashion
- 00:02:02institute of technology in may of 2020
- 00:02:04so this past may with a degree in
- 00:02:06fashion design and obviously
- 00:02:08with the pandemic and everything i was
- 00:02:09forced to move back home to indiana
- 00:02:12where i was before living in new york
- 00:02:14and
- 00:02:14i had originally thought that after
- 00:02:15graduation i was going to be living in
- 00:02:17new york still and that i would be
- 00:02:19working for a company and kind of just
- 00:02:21building up myself and what not to get
- 00:02:23to the point to where i could start a
- 00:02:24brand that was kind of my plan that i
- 00:02:26had in mind but obviously 2020 had
- 00:02:28different plans and i ended up having to
- 00:02:30be back home and my only choices seem to
- 00:02:32be either get a regular job just to get
- 00:02:34myself by and to make sure that i'm
- 00:02:35being able to support myself financially
- 00:02:37or b start my brand and kind of just go
- 00:02:39for it and being the person i am i would
- 00:02:41rather take the risky route and i'd
- 00:02:43rather do
- 00:02:44something that i'm passionate about
- 00:02:45rather than just be safe so i went ahead
- 00:02:47and started my business and it honestly
- 00:02:49has been
- 00:02:50a dream ever since it's done really
- 00:02:51really well and i've obviously learned a
- 00:02:53lot along the way which is why i'm
- 00:02:54making this video to help you guys out
- 00:02:55but that's kind of my story and how i
- 00:02:57started and why i started i knew from
- 00:02:59day one that my concept was definitely
- 00:03:00going to be ethical fashion above
- 00:03:02everything because it's really important
- 00:03:04that my products are ethically
- 00:03:06produced and that no person is harmed in
- 00:03:08the process and on top of that i also
- 00:03:09decided to be
- 00:03:10very sustainable in my process because
- 00:03:13on top of not wanting to
- 00:03:14harm any people i don't want to harm the
- 00:03:15planet anymore either because i just
- 00:03:17have done a lot of research on
- 00:03:18fashion and the environment and realized
- 00:03:20i didn't want to be part of that problem
- 00:03:22so that is where my concept and my ideas
- 00:03:25came from in case you're
- 00:03:26wondering so some questions that you
- 00:03:28guys gave me that kind of go along with
- 00:03:29that are
- 00:03:30how much did you prep before starting it
- 00:03:32so honestly i prepped for about a month
- 00:03:34before actually
- 00:03:35launching and starting the business like
- 00:03:37i said i graduated in may and then i
- 00:03:39started my business in late june june
- 00:03:4026th so
- 00:03:41between my graduation and launch day is
- 00:03:43the time that i was planning and kind of
- 00:03:44getting everything ready so i definitely
- 00:03:46think that you do need to take that time
- 00:03:48to plan and to make sure that you know
- 00:03:50what you're doing and make sure that
- 00:03:51everything is kind of set up and lined
- 00:03:53up i don't think it's one of those
- 00:03:54things that you can think about and then
- 00:03:56a week later start because i think
- 00:03:57that's too soon it doesn't give you time
- 00:03:59to fully develop
- 00:04:00your ideas second question is how to
- 00:04:01make your brand recognizable
- 00:04:03i really like this question because i do
- 00:04:05think it's really important i think it
- 00:04:06goes hand in hand with you know really
- 00:04:08creating a solid concept for your
- 00:04:09business because it's important to make
- 00:04:11sure that you're not just another
- 00:04:12business you're not just another
- 00:04:13clothing brand what makes you
- 00:04:15special like why would people even want
- 00:04:17to follow you why would people want to
- 00:04:18buy from you when there is
- 00:04:20hundreds of thousands of other stores
- 00:04:21they could buy from and this is where
- 00:04:23it's really important to have a solid
- 00:04:24concept and to really know why you're
- 00:04:26coming into this business
- 00:04:27for me like i said it was the idea of
- 00:04:29ethical fashion sustainable fashion slow
- 00:04:31fashion
- 00:04:32i follow a lot of brands that are like
- 00:04:34me there's i'm not the only one there's
- 00:04:36plenty of incredibly talented designers
- 00:04:38that do the same thing that i do but i
- 00:04:39found that a lot of the designers that i
- 00:04:41follow
- 00:04:41are not the same aesthetic as me they're
- 00:04:43not the same vibe i really wanted very
- 00:04:45beautiful like fun feminine pieces
- 00:04:47because that's kind of where my
- 00:04:48aesthetic lies and a lot of the slow
- 00:04:49fashion brands that i followed were
- 00:04:51either really boho or a lot of them are
- 00:04:53really gender fluid which is wonderful
- 00:04:55and i love that but it's just not my
- 00:04:56style so i knew that there wasn't
- 00:04:58very many people if at all that kind of
- 00:05:00did the same thing as i do but also at
- 00:05:02the same aesthetic and design point that
- 00:05:04i do so that's where i think that i
- 00:05:06become a little bit more recognizable i
- 00:05:07also think i have a bit of an advantage
- 00:05:09in the sense
- 00:05:10of like i've had my youtube channel for
- 00:05:11a very very long time and it's not like
- 00:05:13it's a huge channel or anything but
- 00:05:15the fact that i have somewhat of a
- 00:05:16following on there and
- 00:05:18i'm able to show the process and show
- 00:05:19behind the scenes of my business and
- 00:05:21behind the scenes of being a fashion
- 00:05:22designer i think is very
- 00:05:24new and unseen and unheard of i think a
- 00:05:26lot of fashion designers kind of
- 00:05:27hide their process a little bit they
- 00:05:29don't want to share the behind the
- 00:05:31scenes things they don't want to
- 00:05:32share their secrets or anything and i'm
- 00:05:35kind of the opposite and i just show you
- 00:05:36guys everything i'm pretty open about it
- 00:05:38and i think that's also a reason why
- 00:05:40people really like to follow me and
- 00:05:41really like my business is because i
- 00:05:43share all of that so i'm not saying that
- 00:05:44you need to have a youtube channel you
- 00:05:46need to start sharing everything but you
- 00:05:48do need to find something that
- 00:05:49makes you stand out from everybody else
- 00:05:51and really does make you recognizable as
- 00:05:53a brand and as a business and that is
- 00:05:55something that you need to think about
- 00:05:56the next questions are over
- 00:05:57just my collections in general how many
- 00:05:59pieces in a collection how often
- 00:06:01honestly i personally do not like to
- 00:06:03force creativity upon myself i find that
- 00:06:06my best pieces come when i'm not
- 00:06:07necessarily looking for them
- 00:06:09so for me it means being inspired by
- 00:06:11whatever's around me whatever fabric i
- 00:06:13find whatever it is
- 00:06:14i then decide to make something it's not
- 00:06:16like i'm forcing myself to come out with
- 00:06:17a collection every two weeks or every
- 00:06:19three weeks or whatever
- 00:06:20i think it naturally kind of happens
- 00:06:21just because i do get inspired naturally
- 00:06:23but i'm not forcing it on myself and i
- 00:06:25don't think there is a
- 00:06:26golden number of how much you should be
- 00:06:28putting out and how many pieces or
- 00:06:30whatever i think it's very personal it's
- 00:06:31very up to you and how your business
- 00:06:33works
- 00:06:34[Music]
- 00:06:35alright step number two let's talk about
- 00:06:37production how are you gonna produce
- 00:06:38your product
- 00:06:39for me personally i make all my products
- 00:06:41myself i sew them all myself i make all
- 00:06:43my patterns i literally do all the
- 00:06:44sewing i do it all so it's really easy
- 00:06:46for me to kind of skip over
- 00:06:48that step just because i don't have to
- 00:06:49worry about any sort of middleman on
- 00:06:51production but obviously i know that not
- 00:06:52everybody wants to sew all of their
- 00:06:54products and maybe you do want to send
- 00:06:56them out to manufacturers then
- 00:06:57if you do that then you need to make
- 00:06:58sure you find a manufacturer you really
- 00:07:00align with make sure all of your beliefs
- 00:07:01and values are aligned with theirs make
- 00:07:03sure you're getting samples and don't
- 00:07:04just choose the first one that comes to
- 00:07:06your google search page make sure that
- 00:07:08you are actually going through all of
- 00:07:10them and making sure that you're finding
- 00:07:12the one that really suits you
- 00:07:13and if you're buying wholesale again
- 00:07:15make sure that aligns with your values
- 00:07:17make sure that the quality is up to par
- 00:07:19you need to make sure that you're really
- 00:07:20investing time into researching all
- 00:07:22these things in production because it's
- 00:07:24super important that the quality and the
- 00:07:25standard of your product
- 00:07:27is as good as you're saying it is you
- 00:07:28also need to take into consideration
- 00:07:30production time and what that's gonna
- 00:07:32look like for you for me personally
- 00:07:33since i make everything i kind of know
- 00:07:35how much i can make within a week so i
- 00:07:37only put out as much as i know i can
- 00:07:39make within a two-week period i try to
- 00:07:41keep it under one week but i give myself
- 00:07:42two weeks just in case i get an
- 00:07:43overwhelming amount of orders or
- 00:07:45anything but
- 00:07:45say i can only make 10 t-shirts in a
- 00:07:48week i'm not going to put
- 00:07:4930 t-shirts up on my website because i
- 00:07:51know i'm not going to be able to fulfill
- 00:07:52that in the time that i give my
- 00:07:54customers so i only put 10 at a time so
- 00:07:56you need to also think about that in
- 00:07:57your production process and
- 00:07:59the timing of everything and making sure
- 00:08:00you have enough inventory
- 00:08:02of everything that you want questions
- 00:08:04that you guys asked that kind of go
- 00:08:05along with this one is where do you buy
- 00:08:06bulk fabric
- 00:08:07i personally don't necessarily buy
- 00:08:09fabric in bulk
- 00:08:10bulk fabric would be wholesale fabric
- 00:08:12pretty much and i don't buy enough for
- 00:08:14it to be considered wholesale i feel
- 00:08:16like wholesale kind of starts at the 20
- 00:08:18and 30 yard mark but i really only buy
- 00:08:20like 10 to 15 yards at a time which is
- 00:08:22still a big amount of fabric but at the
- 00:08:24same time it's not big enough to be
- 00:08:25considered bulk just yet so i buy it at
- 00:08:28normal places where you can buy fabric i
- 00:08:29don't have any specific wholesalers that
- 00:08:31i go to or manufacturers or anything
- 00:08:34like that this is a list of places that
- 00:08:35i like to shop from some of them
- 00:08:37are dead stock fabrics vintage fabrics
- 00:08:39thrifted fabrics or just natural fiber
- 00:08:41fabrics so there's a little bit of
- 00:08:42everything but these are my go-to places
- 00:08:44as of right now
- 00:08:45and the other most common question is
- 00:08:47what equipment do you use what sewing
- 00:08:48machine do you use i use a janome
- 00:08:50magnolia 7330 and i really really love
- 00:08:53it it is definitely a bit pricier on
- 00:08:54sewing machines but it's not
- 00:08:56an industrial one or anything i also
- 00:08:58have the singer pro finish
- 00:08:59for my serger it's worked really well
- 00:09:01for me it's not industrial by any means
- 00:09:03but
- 00:09:03does the job and as far as embroidery i
- 00:09:05use the brother pe 800 that one is
- 00:09:07definitely quite the investment and you
- 00:09:09don't need an embroidery machine if you
- 00:09:11want to start a business i just
- 00:09:12personally wanted that it was kind of
- 00:09:13like an extra little bonus that i wanted
- 00:09:15but it's not necessary by any means but
- 00:09:17i really love it
- 00:09:18it's really great and it is definitely
- 00:09:20more advanced though
- 00:09:23next topic let's talk about investment
- 00:09:25let's talk about
- 00:09:26money this is probably my most asked
- 00:09:28question is always just about
- 00:09:30investments about how much i spend and
- 00:09:32my profits and just
- 00:09:33everything like that i get asked so so
- 00:09:35much and let me be honest with you i'm
- 00:09:36not
- 00:09:37a financial advisor i don't know that
- 00:09:39much about finances i am 21 years old
- 00:09:41right now it's not like i have this
- 00:09:42whole life of experience under me in
- 00:09:44finances whatsoever so like i'm learning
- 00:09:46every day with this just as much as you
- 00:09:47guys are but here's the thing i
- 00:09:49had enough common sense in me to know
- 00:09:50that i should never spend more than i
- 00:09:52have that's something my parents have
- 00:09:53always very much instilled into my brain
- 00:09:55they're really really good at budgeting
- 00:09:57and just
- 00:09:58managing their money that's something
- 00:09:59that has luckily been translated to me
- 00:10:01and i've always been really good about
- 00:10:02that i've never overspent i always have
- 00:10:04savings like i'm pretty good with my
- 00:10:05money as
- 00:10:06is so the financial part wasn't too
- 00:10:08awful for me i didn't really need to
- 00:10:10invest that much money to begin with
- 00:10:12because i had all the equipment already
- 00:10:14since i have been sewing forever it's
- 00:10:16not like i needed to buy sewing machines
- 00:10:18and sergers and all these things like i
- 00:10:19have had all these things for a very
- 00:10:21long time it was already in my
- 00:10:22possession i didn't need equipment the
- 00:10:24only things i actually spent money on as
- 00:10:25far as like a initial investment i would
- 00:10:27say
- 00:10:28were the fabrics that i bought for the
- 00:10:30first collection my website plan
- 00:10:32my shipping supplies my business cards
- 00:10:34and my clothing tags
- 00:10:36and my po box and that's pretty much it
- 00:10:38not much to it so if you want actual
- 00:10:39numbers because i know you guys are
- 00:10:41gonna ask here's the thing
- 00:10:42i bought five fabrics to begin with for
- 00:10:44my first collection but i only
- 00:10:46ended up using three fabrics at first
- 00:10:48and then the other two later on
- 00:10:49so technically if i would have just
- 00:10:51bought those first three fabrics for the
- 00:10:53first collection without having bought
- 00:10:55the other ones it would have maybe been
- 00:10:56400
- 00:10:57for all those fabrics and i think it was
- 00:10:58enough for around 10 to 15 of each dress
- 00:11:01that i originally put out
- 00:11:03i bought it all at once thinking i was
- 00:11:04gonna put all these things out at the
- 00:11:06same time but the second set of fabrics
- 00:11:07didn't come in till much later so i
- 00:11:09ended up just putting out one collection
- 00:11:10and then using those for the second
- 00:11:12collection so i had planned to make the
- 00:11:14first collection a lot bigger but it
- 00:11:15just didn't come in time so i
- 00:11:16i didn't do that but but technically it
- 00:11:18would have been 400 for that first
- 00:11:20collection and then my accessories and
- 00:11:22like scrunchies and headbands that i had
- 00:11:23were made from fabrics that i already
- 00:11:25had so that was pretty much free because
- 00:11:26i already had them my shipping materials
- 00:11:28maybe were like 200 to begin with for
- 00:11:30the set that i got and it lasted me
- 00:11:32quite a long time my website plan is a
- 00:11:34monthly plan but i ended up just buying
- 00:11:36the yearly one instead because it is
- 00:11:38technically cheaper in the long run and
- 00:11:40i think that it may have been 300
- 00:11:42or so i decided to get one of the higher
- 00:11:45commerce plans for squarespace but
- 00:11:46that's not really necessary at all i
- 00:11:48just wanted those features so i went for
- 00:11:49it
- 00:11:50and then my business cards were maybe
- 00:11:51like 50 bucks and my clothing tags were
- 00:11:54like a hundred dollars for
- 00:11:55like a big set of them so overall it
- 00:11:57wasn't a huge investment to start off
- 00:11:59with i would say it was probably
- 00:12:01anywhere between like a thousand two
- 00:12:02thousand five hundred dollars at
- 00:12:04absolute
- 00:12:04most for the initial investment of
- 00:12:06everything i spent kind of to start off
- 00:12:09with but at the same time it's not
- 00:12:10necessary for you to spend that much you
- 00:12:12don't need to buy
- 00:12:13like that much fabric i could have been
- 00:12:15fine buying half the fabric i did so i
- 00:12:17think that
- 00:12:17overall when it comes to investment and
- 00:12:19your finances and stuff figure out what
- 00:12:21works for you and make a budget that's
- 00:12:23realistic to yourself and then kind of
- 00:12:25work around that so let's go into the
- 00:12:26questions that
- 00:12:27talk about pricing and finances so the
- 00:12:29first one is how do you price things i
- 00:12:31get this question a lot and i think it's
- 00:12:32really hard
- 00:12:33sometimes to price things i personally
- 00:12:35really want to be an affordable brand i
- 00:12:37don't want to be super luxury high-end
- 00:12:39but at the same time ethical and
- 00:12:40sustainable fashion is not
- 00:12:42cheap and it's not cheap for a reason
- 00:12:43it's not because i'm a name brand by any
- 00:12:45chance it's just because
- 00:12:47the labor is being paid fairly unlike
- 00:12:49with fast fashion
- 00:12:50and obviously sustainable materials are
- 00:12:52more expensive than non-sustainable
- 00:12:54materials which is why people don't use
- 00:12:55them as much so
- 00:12:56that makes my prices be a little bit
- 00:12:59higher i personally think that obviously
- 00:13:01when it comes to pricing things you need
- 00:13:02to take into consideration the cost of
- 00:13:04materials so
- 00:13:05say i'm making t-shirts and each t-shirt
- 00:13:08takes a yard of fabric to make how much
- 00:13:10does that yard cost me 20 bucks all
- 00:13:12right well 20 bucks for cost of material
- 00:13:13they need to think about other materials
- 00:13:15things like threads are you using any
- 00:13:17buttons any zippers
- 00:13:18and also this is where you put in the
- 00:13:20price for the clothing tag that you put
- 00:13:22on it
- 00:13:23and also the shipping supplies that
- 00:13:24you're using to send it out add that
- 00:13:26up it's probably just a few dollars then
- 00:13:28you have to think about labor costs so
- 00:13:29for me i pay myself 20
- 00:13:31an hour for however long it takes me to
- 00:13:33make something so if a t-shirt takes me
- 00:13:34an hour i add 20
- 00:13:35to the cost to make sure i cover labor
- 00:13:37because obviously at some point in time
- 00:13:38i'm not going to be making everything
- 00:13:40myself and i'm going to have to be
- 00:13:41paying someone and i want to be paying
- 00:13:42them fairly so that would be what they
- 00:13:44would be getting if i had somebody else
- 00:13:45to make it but it's currently just going
- 00:13:47to meet because i'm making it and then
- 00:13:48once you have that figured out that's
- 00:13:50your base minimum like that is what you
- 00:13:52need to price it at at the bare minimum
- 00:13:54because it has to cover everything and
- 00:13:55make sure that you're not losing money
- 00:13:57that's when you put in your profit most
- 00:13:59stores i would say have a
- 00:14:00150 profit margin if not more so if i
- 00:14:03were to add all that up it would be like
- 00:14:05what 45
- 00:14:06ish per se so you take that 45 and
- 00:14:08multiply it by 1.5 which would be 150
- 00:14:11and then that gives you 67.5 and that
- 00:14:14would be your profit margin so that
- 00:14:15would be what you add to the initial 45
- 00:14:17so then your final price would be 112.50
- 00:14:21which i think
- 00:14:22is a lot of money for a t-shirt so i
- 00:14:24personally do not have that high of a
- 00:14:26profit margin for me my profit margin
- 00:14:28currently is only 50
- 00:14:30which is really really low and it should
- 00:14:32probably be at least 100
- 00:14:33just to make sure that i'm actually
- 00:14:35making money off of it and i'm able to
- 00:14:37reinvest that money and grow my business
- 00:14:39but because as of right now when i'm
- 00:14:40filming this video i'm living with my
- 00:14:42parents and i don't have any
- 00:14:43excess things to kind of worry about as
- 00:14:45far as rent or food or bills or anything
- 00:14:47i'm able to kind of keep my prices a
- 00:14:48little bit lower and kind of start
- 00:14:50working up to
- 00:14:51where i want them to actually be for me
- 00:14:52to make a living but for now it's
- 00:14:54comfortable and it's fine and i'm able
- 00:14:55to do it but obviously at some point i
- 00:14:56am going to have to up them and make
- 00:14:58sure that
- 00:14:59i remember my own worth i think it's
- 00:15:00really easy for all of us to kind of
- 00:15:02feel bad about pricing things higher
- 00:15:04and feel like we're not worth that but
- 00:15:05realistically we are worth that and we
- 00:15:08need to
- 00:15:08understand that for our customers to
- 00:15:10also understand that i think that if
- 00:15:11you're fully transparent about why you
- 00:15:13price things the way you do people will
- 00:15:14understand and it will be okay
- 00:15:16the next question is what do you use for
- 00:15:18bookkeeping and i use quickbooks i'm
- 00:15:20honestly not
- 00:15:21too great at keeping up with it too
- 00:15:23often i think probably once a month i'll
- 00:15:24go on it and kind of sort through all of
- 00:15:26my
- 00:15:27payments and everything that has gone
- 00:15:28through my card and honestly i like to
- 00:15:29use it just to make sure that my money
- 00:15:31in
- 00:15:31is always higher than my money out and
- 00:15:33making sure i'm not spending more than i
- 00:15:34have and making sure that my savings is
- 00:15:36going up and all that type of stuff
- 00:15:40all right next up let's talk about
- 00:15:42branding i think this is so fun i love
- 00:15:44branding because it's kind of where you
- 00:15:46give your business personality and you
- 00:15:48kind of
- 00:15:49choose how you're going to portray
- 00:15:50yourself to the world and it's super fun
- 00:15:52so branding you got to think about what
- 00:15:54your color palette is what kind of fonts
- 00:15:55you're using what your overall just
- 00:15:57vibe and aesthetic is that's kind of
- 00:15:59where branding comes in
- 00:16:00and it's really important to have very
- 00:16:02set and specific branding because that's
- 00:16:03how people can point out like oh that's
- 00:16:05a natalia dress because the aesthetic
- 00:16:07the branding you see it or like
- 00:16:08you can tell that that is my instagram
- 00:16:10graphic because that's my style and
- 00:16:12that's my aesthetic and that's my kind
- 00:16:13of branding so you definitely do have to
- 00:16:15think about
- 00:16:16what your color scheme is going to look
- 00:16:17like what kind of fonts do you want to
- 00:16:19use do you want it to be very
- 00:16:20minimalistic do you want it to be
- 00:16:22kind of maximalist over the top do you
- 00:16:24want it to be super colorful or more
- 00:16:25muted
- 00:16:26just all these type of things make sure
- 00:16:27it fits obviously your products and your
- 00:16:29personality and just kind of the overall
- 00:16:31vibe you're trying to give
- 00:16:32branding also has to do with what your
- 00:16:34mission statement is and what
- 00:16:36kind of things you're promoting and your
- 00:16:38values your morals all that kind of
- 00:16:40stuff also goes into it so make sure
- 00:16:41that when you're thinking of your
- 00:16:42branding you're also thinking of what
- 00:16:44kind of messages you're putting out and
- 00:16:45what you want to promote
- 00:16:47things that you want people to see
- 00:16:49within your business so for me obviously
- 00:16:51i'm promoting like ethical and
- 00:16:52sustainable fashion and just slow
- 00:16:53fashion
- 00:16:54and slow living in general like ethical
- 00:16:56consumption just sustainable living
- 00:16:58all that type of stuff is obviously what
- 00:16:59i am promoting but on top of that i am
- 00:17:01a very inclusive brand so i'm also
- 00:17:03promoting just inclusivity positivity
- 00:17:05kindness love all that type of stuff is
- 00:17:07part of my branding as well it's part of
- 00:17:09what my brand stands for and what i want
- 00:17:12to
- 00:17:12show and portray to the world with my
- 00:17:14brand so the question that goes with
- 00:17:16this one is how do you manage your
- 00:17:17limiting
- 00:17:18beliefs and i think that she means like
- 00:17:20how do i manage being sustainable and
- 00:17:21ethical and kind of keeping up with all
- 00:17:23of that in the process and to be honest
- 00:17:25it is really really hard to keep up with
- 00:17:27obviously for me being ethical means
- 00:17:28making everything myself which is a lot
- 00:17:30of work and it would be so much easier
- 00:17:32for me to send it out to a manufacturer
- 00:17:33even an ethical manufacturer but because
- 00:17:35i really want to make sure i'm seeing
- 00:17:37the process and i'm overseeing
- 00:17:39everything
- 00:17:39i am making it myself instead and even
- 00:17:41with sustainability obviously it limits
- 00:17:43the materials i can use and being zero
- 00:17:46waste also limits how i can make things
- 00:17:48and get rid of things and obviously it
- 00:17:50forces me to use and reuse scraps and
- 00:17:52little tiny cutting scraps and all that
- 00:17:54type of stuff so it is definitely
- 00:17:56limiting but at the same time that is my
- 00:17:57brand and that is why people follow me
- 00:17:59and that is what people expect from me
- 00:18:01and want to see from me
- 00:18:03so i know that that is what i have to do
- 00:18:05and though it is
- 00:18:06frustrating at times and sometimes i get
- 00:18:08really overwhelmed with it
- 00:18:10i know that because it has such an
- 00:18:12important purpose and that because
- 00:18:14it is such an important cause that it is
- 00:18:16worth it in the end and that people are
- 00:18:18gonna appreciate that so
- 00:18:19it keeps me motivated in that sense but
- 00:18:21it is definitely difficult and i think
- 00:18:22it's always gonna be easier to take
- 00:18:24the not so good route obviously i could
- 00:18:27be making so much money
- 00:18:28as a fast fashion brand and sending my
- 00:18:30stuff out to asia to be made
- 00:18:32and underpaying people and upping the
- 00:18:35prices like no
- 00:18:36other and just make a bunch of profit
- 00:18:37off of people but i
- 00:18:39don't want to be that person and i know
- 00:18:41that even though it's a lot more work
- 00:18:42and that it's going to take
- 00:18:44so much more effort it's going to be
- 00:18:46worth it because i'm doing good
- 00:18:47if that makes any sense that is kind of
- 00:18:49my thought process with it it's
- 00:18:50definitely very limiting but
- 00:18:51it is really fulfilling at the same time
- 00:18:56all right the next step is marketing
- 00:18:58this is probably my most
- 00:18:59highly requested topic to talk about
- 00:19:02is how did you market yourself how did
- 00:19:05you grow your following
- 00:19:06so let's talk about it marketing is
- 00:19:08honestly super fun and honestly it's all
- 00:19:10self-taught i never took any business
- 00:19:12classes i
- 00:19:13was not a business major by any means i
- 00:19:15never took any minors in it or did
- 00:19:16anything with it it's all just kind of
- 00:19:18self-taught
- 00:19:19common sense research type stuff for me
- 00:19:21so i'll share with you guys
- 00:19:22what has worked for me so obviously
- 00:19:24majority of my marketing is done through
- 00:19:25social media and i think that's how most
- 00:19:27people do it nowadays because it's the
- 00:19:28easiest way to get a global audience and
- 00:19:31just to kind of reach a lot of people
- 00:19:32especially
- 00:19:33in this day and age when everything is
- 00:19:34so digital already i think that when
- 00:19:36you're starting a business you need to
- 00:19:37think about the
- 00:19:39kind of social media platforms you want
- 00:19:40to be using are you going to use all of
- 00:19:42them are you going to dedicate your time
- 00:19:43to one more than the other
- 00:19:44kind of think on that a little bit but
- 00:19:46my personal opinion is that you kind of
- 00:19:48need to
- 00:19:48try a little bit of everything and make
- 00:19:50sure that you're in the know and
- 00:19:51relevant on all social media because you
- 00:19:54never know when one is going to blow up
- 00:19:55more than the other or when there's a
- 00:19:57new one that you should get on
- 00:19:58all that type of stuff is really
- 00:20:00important to stay relevant and to stay
- 00:20:02on top of it for me that meant starting
- 00:20:04a tick tock to promote my brand and my
- 00:20:06business and that blew up
- 00:20:07it also meant obviously my instagram and
- 00:20:09posting there consistently which
- 00:20:11that has also blown up i do post on
- 00:20:13facebook not so often and not all of my
- 00:20:15content because i don't feel like the
- 00:20:17same posts that go to instagram can go
- 00:20:18to facebook i feel like it's just a very
- 00:20:20different audience but i do use facebook
- 00:20:22just to make sure i'm reaching kind of
- 00:20:23that more
- 00:20:24family and older relatives area of my
- 00:20:26life and making sure they're keeping up
- 00:20:28with what i'm doing so those are the
- 00:20:29social media platforms i use
- 00:20:31we can also talk about email marketing
- 00:20:32that's also a really important part of
- 00:20:34it email marketing though it seems like
- 00:20:36it's outdated and that
- 00:20:37it's not important it's actually really
- 00:20:39useful because if social media were
- 00:20:41to die one of these days if tick tock
- 00:20:43got banned and instagram got banned and
- 00:20:45we didn't have any social media left we
- 00:20:47could still have our emails because
- 00:20:48that's something that
- 00:20:49isn't a social media that could be taken
- 00:20:51away if that makes sense so you'll
- 00:20:53always have your email list you'll
- 00:20:54always have that way to contact people
- 00:20:56and also think about it this way social
- 00:20:58media only shows your post to like 20 to
- 00:21:0030 percent of your following it doesn't
- 00:21:02actually put it on everybody's feeds and
- 00:21:04same with tick tock it shows it to a
- 00:21:05couple people if those couple people
- 00:21:06like it goes to the next couple
- 00:21:08so it's not like social media shows your
- 00:21:10content to absolutely everybody who's
- 00:21:12following you whereas with email
- 00:21:13marketing
- 00:21:14that email goes to absolutely everybody
- 00:21:16on that list if you have 10 000 people
- 00:21:17on that list it's going to 10
- 00:21:19000 people it's not just going to 20
- 00:21:20seeing if they open it and then sending
- 00:21:22it out
- 00:21:22it's going to all of them so definitely
- 00:21:24utilize that as well obviously don't go
- 00:21:26overboard nobody likes to get spam
- 00:21:27emails all the time but make sure you're
- 00:21:29using it so those are the four places
- 00:21:30that i kind of market myself
- 00:21:32and on top of that i also have a google
- 00:21:34my business account so that when people
- 00:21:35go to google and they search like
- 00:21:37fashion designer
- 00:21:38near me at least in indiana they'll find
- 00:21:40me i'm the first one that pops up there
- 00:21:41or if they search my name natalia
- 00:21:43trevino maro i'm on there and you can
- 00:21:45see my google business page and you can
- 00:21:46see reviews and all that type of stuff
- 00:21:48that's also really important
- 00:21:49obviously as far as marketing so those
- 00:21:51are all the ways that i market and
- 00:21:52different places where i kind of have
- 00:21:54my foot in the door if you will so let's
- 00:21:56go into questions that go with this
- 00:21:57the first one is what are your marketing
- 00:21:59strategies i honestly like to
- 00:22:01be very active on social media and i
- 00:22:04like to be in the know of what's going
- 00:22:05on especially
- 00:22:06on tick tock per se it's really
- 00:22:08important to stay on top of trends using
- 00:22:10trending sounds is so
- 00:22:12important that's how my first tick tock
- 00:22:13blew up i got a million views in
- 00:22:15like two days or something like that and
- 00:22:17all of my products got sold out and
- 00:22:19that's kind of how i
- 00:22:20started my business i was like a couple
- 00:22:23weeks into me starting so that was kind
- 00:22:25of me starting with bing and it was
- 00:22:26really cool and it was really awesome
- 00:22:28but it wasn't a random tick tock that
- 00:22:29blew up necessarily i did it with
- 00:22:31intention
- 00:22:32because i knew that that sound that i
- 00:22:33was using at the time was really really
- 00:22:35popular and it was starting to gain a
- 00:22:36lot of traction i saw it a lot on my for
- 00:22:38you page so i knew it was trending and i
- 00:22:39knew that a lot of people
- 00:22:40were liking this sound so i decided to
- 00:22:42use it and i decided to use it in a way
- 00:22:44that i knew would attract people so the
- 00:22:46sound that i used kind of just said like
- 00:22:48you got it so i was like okay what do i
- 00:22:50have that people want so i
- 00:22:51talked about being a sustainable brand
- 00:22:53an ethical brand and
- 00:22:54having international shipping and being
- 00:22:57relatively affordable and all that type
- 00:22:58of stuff which obviously drew people in
- 00:23:00and the video itself didn't show my
- 00:23:02product so that made people have to go
- 00:23:04to my profile click on my website and
- 00:23:05then view my product which was all very
- 00:23:08very intentional because again i knew
- 00:23:10that that had a chance of blowing up
- 00:23:12because of the popularity of the sound
- 00:23:13and obviously because of my beliefs and
- 00:23:15what i was saying i knew that people
- 00:23:17would relate to and would like
- 00:23:18so it obviously led them to my website
- 00:23:20and i got a ridiculous amount of page
- 00:23:22views that night
- 00:23:23and obviously so many sales so that's
- 00:23:25kind of the strategy on tick tock was
- 00:23:26kind of just using trending sounds
- 00:23:28making sure to stay on top of it making
- 00:23:30quick
- 00:23:30funny content educational content just
- 00:23:32making sure that you're kind of on top
- 00:23:34of what's new and trendy because that's
- 00:23:36what's going to get you
- 00:23:37maybe viral content as far as instagram
- 00:23:39i think it's a little bit more difficult
- 00:23:40but here's the thing that i've learned
- 00:23:41about instagram or i guess any social
- 00:23:43media in general is if you're using new
- 00:23:45features that they're providing for you
- 00:23:47they're going to push your content more
- 00:23:48so what does that mean for instagram
- 00:23:50as of right now reels are kind of the
- 00:23:52new big thing on instagram right now and
- 00:23:54they're really trying to push that so
- 00:23:55i decided that it would be a good idea
- 00:23:57to put one of my tick tocks that did
- 00:23:58really well onto my instagram as a reel
- 00:24:00and then just let it be and see what
- 00:24:02would happen and as of right now i have
- 00:24:03nearly a million views on it which is
- 00:24:05crazy and it's gotten me
- 00:24:067 000 followers in the past three to
- 00:24:09four days which
- 00:24:10again is super crazy especially because
- 00:24:11instagram is one of those
- 00:24:13platforms that's kind of hard to grow on
- 00:24:14organically but i made sure to use
- 00:24:16a new feature that they were providing
- 00:24:18because they're kind of pushing that
- 00:24:19content more and i already knew that
- 00:24:20content did really well on my tick tock
- 00:24:22so i figured it would do really well on
- 00:24:24instagram too
- 00:24:24so i think it's important to just kind
- 00:24:26of stay on top of it and make sure you
- 00:24:28know what's new and what's trending and
- 00:24:29what is popping on social media
- 00:24:31that's how you make viral content that
- 00:24:33is how people find you and that is the
- 00:24:34best strategy i can give you is just to
- 00:24:36be in the know keep up with trends and
- 00:24:38just keep going the next question is how
- 00:24:39did you build such a big following and
- 00:24:41obviously the last question kind of
- 00:24:42answered in a sense if i've had viral
- 00:24:44content which has really helped me but i
- 00:24:46also think it's important to be very
- 00:24:47consistent
- 00:24:48obviously it's not like everything i
- 00:24:49post goes viral i've posted hundreds of
- 00:24:51tick tocks and
- 00:24:52not every single one goes viral only one
- 00:24:54has actually really gone viral so
- 00:24:55it's not like all of my content does
- 00:24:57super super well but i'm very consistent
- 00:24:59you know and i know that eventually one
- 00:25:01of them will do well
- 00:25:02if i keep posting and if i keep trying
- 00:25:04and then i'm just persistent on it and
- 00:25:06same with instagram i post every single
- 00:25:07day on there i make sure to engage with
- 00:25:09my audience i make sure to answer to all
- 00:25:10of comments i get i answer to dms i make
- 00:25:13sure to follow people back
- 00:25:14and engage with their content and just
- 00:25:16be a very active member of your
- 00:25:18community
- 00:25:18you don't just want to be one of those
- 00:25:19people that posts and ghosts so you need
- 00:25:22to make sure you're engaging and to do
- 00:25:23that you also need to make sure that you
- 00:25:24have engaging content and that your
- 00:25:26content is easy to engage
- 00:25:28with if you're only promoting your
- 00:25:29products all the time kind of hard to
- 00:25:30engage with and not everybody's going to
- 00:25:32want to be commenting on that so you
- 00:25:33want to make sure that aside from
- 00:25:34promoting your products you also have
- 00:25:36content that is educational maybe
- 00:25:38or something that's a little more
- 00:25:39light-hearted maybe you're telling some
- 00:25:41personal stories some fun facts about
- 00:25:43yourself just make it more than just
- 00:25:45promoting a product because people
- 00:25:46obviously they want to follow your
- 00:25:48business and your products and they like
- 00:25:49your products and that's why they follow
- 00:25:51you but at the same time
- 00:25:52they're going to want to follow you more
- 00:25:53and buy more from you if they know you
- 00:25:55as a person
- 00:25:56and if they see values and they see a
- 00:25:57kind of a more personable
- 00:25:59account behind it not just a business
- 00:26:01account and make sure that everything
- 00:26:02you put out is very
- 00:26:03intentional and that there's a lot of
- 00:26:05passion behind what you're doing just a
- 00:26:06thing to keep in mind
- 00:26:07[Applause]
- 00:26:09all right let's talk about the website
- 00:26:11and how you're gonna host your product
- 00:26:13so i personally use squarespace and i
- 00:26:15really really love it i think it's a
- 00:26:16wonderful platform i love the aesthetic
- 00:26:18of it i love how much you can customize
- 00:26:20it
- 00:26:20i honestly have not tried shopify or wix
- 00:26:23really so i can't say anything on the
- 00:26:25other platforms but i think that you
- 00:26:26should definitely do your research and
- 00:26:28kind of play around with it and see
- 00:26:29which one works best for you you also
- 00:26:31want to make sure that your website is
- 00:26:32user-friendly you want to make sure all
- 00:26:33of your information is easy to find you
- 00:26:35want to make sure it's easy for people
- 00:26:36to contact you
- 00:26:37you want to make sure that all of your
- 00:26:38pictures are really clean and crisp you
- 00:26:41want to make sure that there's not too
- 00:26:42much going on that it's really
- 00:26:43simplistic and
- 00:26:44people are able to easily find
- 00:26:46everything that they need to find and
- 00:26:47all the information is there you want to
- 00:26:49make sure all your values are on there
- 00:26:50and making sure people really know what
- 00:26:52your brand is about because that at
- 00:26:53least personally is the first place that
- 00:26:55i go to when i go to a new shop's
- 00:26:56website i always go to the about or
- 00:26:58any sort of like mission statement i
- 00:26:59want to make sure that their values
- 00:27:01align with my own and that
- 00:27:03we meet eye to eye on that and then if
- 00:27:04they do then i'll buy from them question
- 00:27:06that goes with this one is how did you
- 00:27:07make your website and squarespace is
- 00:27:09super easy they have a bunch of
- 00:27:10templates you can use and then customize
- 00:27:12so
- 00:27:12that's how i did mine nothing crazy i
- 00:27:14did not have to code it myself and i
- 00:27:16don't think you need to either obviously
- 00:27:18you can if you want to but that would be
- 00:27:19an extra cost that
- 00:27:20is not really necessary there's so many
- 00:27:23tutorials online on how to use
- 00:27:24squarespace and customize it and
- 00:27:26squarespace help is also just really
- 00:27:28good and
- 00:27:28very useful and i use it all the time to
- 00:27:30add new features and add-ons and
- 00:27:31plug-ins and all that type of stuff so
- 00:27:33definitely just do your research play
- 00:27:34around with it but it's not that hard
- 00:27:38all right next let's talk about
- 00:27:39promoting and your launch day so once
- 00:27:41you have everything kind of set up and
- 00:27:43you're ready to
- 00:27:44start promoting you've got your pictures
- 00:27:45of your products which you obviously
- 00:27:46want to make sure they're good pictures
- 00:27:48you don't need a professional
- 00:27:49photographer by any means but do make
- 00:27:51sure that it is high enough quality i
- 00:27:53would say it's probably smartest to
- 00:27:54actually use a camera and not just your
- 00:27:55iphone but if you're going to use your
- 00:27:56iphone at least do it in natural
- 00:27:58lighting and make sure it's really good
- 00:27:59and crisp but yeah you want to start
- 00:28:00promoting stuff before you launch i
- 00:28:02think it's super important to build up
- 00:28:03some sort of hype before you just
- 00:28:05launch your product i personally think
- 00:28:06that i started promoting my brand maybe
- 00:28:08a week or two before i actually launched
- 00:28:10sometime around then so that's kind of
- 00:28:13the time period i had i was promoting on
- 00:28:15my instagram i was promoting on
- 00:28:17my tick tock and i was promoting on my
- 00:28:19youtube channel because i also did a
- 00:28:20series on how i started my business and
- 00:28:22just kind of the process so i was
- 00:28:23promoting it all around and definitely
- 00:28:25for
- 00:28:25quite a few weeks to make sure that i
- 00:28:27built some sort of attraction up to my
- 00:28:28launch day
- 00:28:29and my launch day honestly went really
- 00:28:31well i had a good amount of orders
- 00:28:32granted the majority of my orders were
- 00:28:34from people that i knew i think i maybe
- 00:28:36got
- 00:28:36one or two orders from people i didn't
- 00:28:38know which were like the best orders
- 00:28:39ever but even though it was just from
- 00:28:41people i knew it was still successful
- 00:28:43because i still got orders on launch day
- 00:28:45and that's not something everybody can
- 00:28:46say so i was really content with it
- 00:28:48and obviously from there i started
- 00:28:49promoting more and eventually my take
- 00:28:51dot went viral and that's when
- 00:28:53everything kind of sold out and kind of
- 00:28:54gained more traction
- 00:28:55it was definitely slow but it was
- 00:28:57successful and it worked and here we are
- 00:28:59now so
- 00:29:00i don't think that you should get too
- 00:29:02worried if your launch day doesn't go
- 00:29:04super well or if it takes you a little
- 00:29:05bit to kind of gain that traction the
- 00:29:06question that goes with this one
- 00:29:08is do you do unpaid collaborations or
- 00:29:11pr packages and i'm gonna be honest i
- 00:29:14have done it before and i have sent
- 00:29:16stuff out for free for certain people
- 00:29:18but i haven't found that it gives me too
- 00:29:20high of a
- 00:29:20return per se at least not for what my
- 00:29:23product's worth
- 00:29:24obviously it has allowed me to get at
- 00:29:25least pictures of people with my
- 00:29:27products on which is really nice and
- 00:29:28really helpful because i find that a lot
- 00:29:30of people buy from me but not a lot of
- 00:29:31people actually send me pictures of them
- 00:29:33in my stuff which obviously as a
- 00:29:34customer you don't have to do that but
- 00:29:36it's really helpful
- 00:29:37obviously when people see other people
- 00:29:39actually wearing your stuff and you're
- 00:29:40not just saying you sold all these
- 00:29:41things but there's actually proof that
- 00:29:43people are actually
- 00:29:44buying stuff so i would honestly kind of
- 00:29:46stay away from doing unpaid
- 00:29:47collaborations and
- 00:29:49kind of pr packages unless you have a
- 00:29:51lot of excess inventory you can give out
- 00:29:53but if you're a small business and you
- 00:29:54are kind of starting up it's not really
- 00:29:56necessary and i don't think you have to
- 00:29:58do that
- 00:30:00next let's talk about shipping so you've
- 00:30:02launched you've figured out your whole
- 00:30:03business now you have all these orders
- 00:30:05how are you going to ship them out
- 00:30:06there's obviously a lot of different
- 00:30:07routes you can take i personally ship
- 00:30:09everything with the usps because
- 00:30:10i find that a it's the cheapest and it's
- 00:30:13simple and easy and i didn't feel the
- 00:30:15need to have to pay extra for ups or
- 00:30:16fedex or any of those but it's totally
- 00:30:18up to you so i personally use a website
- 00:30:20called pirate ship and that is linked to
- 00:30:23my squarespace so all of my orders from
- 00:30:24squarespace kind of come into pirate
- 00:30:26ship and then i'm able to print my
- 00:30:27shipping labels on there like buy them
- 00:30:29and print them i use a rolo printer to
- 00:30:31print them out and i love it it is a
- 00:30:33thermal printer it is wonderful
- 00:30:34great investment probably one of my
- 00:30:35better investments and yeah it's super
- 00:30:37simple to use that software you just
- 00:30:39kind of put in the dimensions of your
- 00:30:40package the weight of it
- 00:30:41and then it automatically brings in all
- 00:30:43the information from the order so it
- 00:30:45automatically puts in
- 00:30:46the address that the person put in for
- 00:30:47shipping so you don't have to manually
- 00:30:49put that in or anything
- 00:30:50and you can do like a few at a time so
- 00:30:51like if 20 people bought two headbands
- 00:30:53and you know it's the same weight for
- 00:30:54all of them you can buy those all at the
- 00:30:56same time and it'll just print all of
- 00:30:57them separately which is really nice the
- 00:30:59questions that go with this one are
- 00:31:01what shipping supplies do you start with
- 00:31:03i personally started with some
- 00:31:04polymailers some tissue paper
- 00:31:06some note cards some stickers and a
- 00:31:08little weak care card but those are free
- 00:31:10from eco and clothes i get all my stuff
- 00:31:12from mikko and clothes they are a
- 00:31:13sustainable packaging company
- 00:31:14obviously that is also something to keep
- 00:31:16in mind what kind of packaging do you
- 00:31:17want do you want it to be branded do you
- 00:31:19not want to be branded do you care if
- 00:31:20it's sustainable or not there's
- 00:31:22obviously a lot that goes into
- 00:31:23the packaging as well so you do want to
- 00:31:25kind of think on that personally for me
- 00:31:26it was super important for it to be
- 00:31:27sustainable i didn't really care for it
- 00:31:29to be branded i don't think that's
- 00:31:30really important or necessary like yeah
- 00:31:32it's super cute if you get a branded
- 00:31:33package but at the end of the day that's
- 00:31:35just going to go into the trash so i'd
- 00:31:36rather it just be a sustainable kind of
- 00:31:38way to package things rather than it
- 00:31:39just be
- 00:31:40cute and for a picture or whatever you
- 00:31:41know so those are the things that i
- 00:31:43started with and that's still what i
- 00:31:44continue with i don't have anything
- 00:31:46extra i just package everything up into
- 00:31:48the tissue paper
- 00:31:49and use the sticker to seal it up and
- 00:31:51then i put it into the polymailer and i
- 00:31:53use the little note cards to write a
- 00:31:54note on
- 00:31:55and call it a day that's pretty much it
- 00:31:57the other question is how did you set up
- 00:31:58worldwide shipping was squarespace
- 00:32:00friendly with that and to be honest it
- 00:32:02was kind of difficult to set up
- 00:32:03not difficult but a time-consuming i
- 00:32:05would say i had to go to usps.com and
- 00:32:07just kind of manually put in like say
- 00:32:09i'm going to be shipping
- 00:32:10this package of these dimensions and
- 00:32:12this weight to australia and see how
- 00:32:14much it would cost
- 00:32:15and then put in a different way to the
- 00:32:17same place and see how much it would
- 00:32:18cost so then i made a list of countries
- 00:32:19and how much it would cost me for each
- 00:32:21one and then i was able to kind of
- 00:32:22generalize them so
- 00:32:24a lot of europe was kind of the same
- 00:32:26pricing like western europe had
- 00:32:28the same pricing but eastern europe kind
- 00:32:29of had the same pricing and then places
- 00:32:31like australia and new zealand had the
- 00:32:32same pricing and
- 00:32:34other parts of asia and then south
- 00:32:35america has different pricing and then
- 00:32:37canada and mexico are kind of similar
- 00:32:39pricing so i was able to kind of group
- 00:32:40them
- 00:32:40by pricing but you do have to manually
- 00:32:42put in like the countries the pricing
- 00:32:44per weight so i also had to figure out
- 00:32:46for weight how much it would cost and
- 00:32:48what that increase is but once you do it
- 00:32:50for one you can kind of figure out the
- 00:32:51rest a lot easier once you kind of get
- 00:32:53in the hang of it i hope that made sense
- 00:32:54it's kind of difficult to figure out
- 00:32:56but i think it's worth it a lot of
- 00:32:58people really appreciate the fact that i
- 00:32:59have worldwide shipping that i'm able to
- 00:33:01be inclusive in that way so
- 00:33:02if that's something you're looking into
- 00:33:04it does take a little bit but i think
- 00:33:05it's worth it
- 00:33:08the last step of your business and
- 00:33:10starting your business is just analyzing
- 00:33:12things now that you've put out your
- 00:33:13business now that you've launched and
- 00:33:15you're shipping stuff out and all that
- 00:33:17stuff you need to start analyzing and
- 00:33:19you need to start getting feedback from
- 00:33:21people
- 00:33:21ask your customers if they're liking it
- 00:33:23ask people to leave reviews see how you
- 00:33:25can improve there's always ways we can
- 00:33:26improve
- 00:33:27i'm always improving my social media
- 00:33:29from when i started to how it is right
- 00:33:30now
- 00:33:31has improved so much in the quality in
- 00:33:33my content and what i'm posting and even
- 00:33:35my website has improved so much from the
- 00:33:37very start of how i started it to where
- 00:33:39it is right now i've added so much more
- 00:33:40information i've made it hopefully
- 00:33:42easier to manage and i'm still
- 00:33:43constantly changing it constantly making
- 00:33:45sure to improve things it's super
- 00:33:46important that you
- 00:33:48are open to constant change and constant
- 00:33:50growth because that is just something
- 00:33:52that i've seen that comes naturally with
- 00:33:54having a business and being an
- 00:33:55entrepreneur is just you're constantly
- 00:33:57growing you're constantly learning
- 00:33:58there's
- 00:33:58it doesn't ever stop and i think that's
- 00:34:00the beauty of it i think it's super fun
- 00:34:01and really cool to constantly be
- 00:34:02learning and growing but it's definitely
- 00:34:04something you have to be open to you
- 00:34:05can't stay stagnant in one spot forever
- 00:34:08so lastly i have a few other
- 00:34:09questions that i didn't know where to
- 00:34:11put into this video but i did want to
- 00:34:12make sure that i answered them so i'm
- 00:34:14gonna do a quick little q a right now
- 00:34:15first question is how do you stay
- 00:34:17motivated considering i do everything
- 00:34:18myself it is difficult to stay motivated
- 00:34:20but it's a lot easier for me
- 00:34:22to have that motivation when i know that
- 00:34:24the stuff i'm making
- 00:34:25is going to a certain person in a
- 00:34:27certain place since i make everything to
- 00:34:28order i'm not just making random
- 00:34:30inventory and hoping that it sells it's
- 00:34:32like i'm making this t-shirt right now
- 00:34:34that i know i'm going to package up and
- 00:34:35ship to australia to
- 00:34:37said person and i think that's really
- 00:34:39cool and that is something that
- 00:34:40motivates me kind of seeing that end
- 00:34:41goal and seeing that there are people on
- 00:34:43the other side of what i'm doing every
- 00:34:44single day is what keeps me the most
- 00:34:46motivated if i didn't have that i don't
- 00:34:48know if i could get up in the mornings
- 00:34:49every single day because it is a lot of
- 00:34:51willpower to kind of get yourself up and
- 00:34:53moving every day but having people and
- 00:34:55having you guys as a support system and
- 00:34:56kind of doing it for somebody is really
- 00:34:58what motivates me the most the second
- 00:35:00question is time management and how i
- 00:35:02schedule my workflow
- 00:35:03i just personally am really good at time
- 00:35:05management it's something that i've
- 00:35:07always
- 00:35:07been good at just because i'm kind of a
- 00:35:10perfectionist with a lot of things and i
- 00:35:12hate to procrastinate i like to get
- 00:35:13things done
- 00:35:14asap it's something that i get from my
- 00:35:16mom she's the same way
- 00:35:17so that's just the way i've been but the
- 00:35:19way that i keep it all organized is just
- 00:35:21to-do lists i don't have anything fancy
- 00:35:23where i write down to-do-list i just
- 00:35:25have a notebook and i write everything i
- 00:35:26need to do whether it be for a week or
- 00:35:28for the day
- 00:35:28or whatever i write it all down to make
- 00:35:30sure that i can start checking things
- 00:35:31off i find it super satisfying to
- 00:35:33actually physically check
- 00:35:34stuff off a list and see how much i've
- 00:35:36done it really helps me stay motivated
- 00:35:38and feel like i'm actually progressing
- 00:35:40even if it's like
- 00:35:41very small tasks i still write them down
- 00:35:42so if i am making a t-shirt i'm not just
- 00:35:44gonna write
- 00:35:45make t-shirt i'm gonna write cut it out
- 00:35:47embroider it sew it
- 00:35:48ship it so that i can start taking it
- 00:35:50off the list a little bit faster
- 00:35:52and have more things that i feel like
- 00:35:53i've accomplished it really helps me and
- 00:35:55i know that's a very
- 00:35:56just psychological thing but it helps so
- 00:35:58if it helps you too then do it i think
- 00:35:59it's really good to do lists are my best
- 00:36:01friend that is how i manage
- 00:36:03everything the next question is just
- 00:36:04about legal stuff and registering my
- 00:36:06business i personally registered as a
- 00:36:08sole proprietor and i did not register
- 00:36:10right away i registered i believe in
- 00:36:12october if not late september
- 00:36:14and i just did a lot of research on it
- 00:36:17my dad and i sat down for a while to
- 00:36:18just kind of look into it and i ended up
- 00:36:20hiring legalzoom to do it all for me
- 00:36:22because my dad and i went to do it on
- 00:36:24our own and it just became really
- 00:36:25complicated and we weren't sure how to
- 00:36:27do it properly and because it is such an
- 00:36:29important legal document i didn't want
- 00:36:31to mess it up and risk
- 00:36:32being in any sort of legal trouble so i
- 00:36:34just went ahead and paid for somebody to
- 00:36:36do it for me because
- 00:36:37there are professionals for a reason so
- 00:36:39i just went ahead and did that and made
- 00:36:40sure that they kind of did it for me and
- 00:36:42had that all properly set up so i don't
- 00:36:44have to worry about it the next question
- 00:36:45is just talking about dealing with hate
- 00:36:47and negativity and
- 00:36:48people not being supportive stuff like
- 00:36:50that i personally had a really good
- 00:36:51support system
- 00:36:52i feel like i generally have people
- 00:36:54around me who support everything i do
- 00:36:56but that doesn't mean that everybody
- 00:36:58believes in you i think there's a very
- 00:37:00big difference between people supporting
- 00:37:01you and people believing in you because
- 00:37:03obviously you can support somebody but
- 00:37:05think that they're gonna fail
- 00:37:06you know what i mean i think a lot of
- 00:37:08people backed me up and they you know
- 00:37:10pushed me they're like yeah you got this
- 00:37:11but in their head they're like she does
- 00:37:13not got this she is going to fail she
- 00:37:15needs a plan b
- 00:37:16she needs to go back to school whatever
- 00:37:17it may be i dealt with a lot of people
- 00:37:19you know asking me what my plan b was
- 00:37:21and asking me if i was gonna go back to
- 00:37:22school and if i was planning on getting
- 00:37:24a job and honestly it's not very easy to
- 00:37:26deal with it is very difficult and it is
- 00:37:28totally a mind game of you
- 00:37:30just locking those people out and not
- 00:37:32thinking about it and just
- 00:37:33letting yourself be in your own thoughts
- 00:37:35and letting yourself believe that you
- 00:37:37got this because at the end of the day
- 00:37:39you just need to believe in yourself and
- 00:37:40if you believe in yourself and you give
- 00:37:42yourself positive affirmation some
- 00:37:44positive energy
- 00:37:44and all of that then you're gonna be
- 00:37:47good to go the only thing that matters
- 00:37:48is that you believe in yourself and
- 00:37:49you're giving yourself positive
- 00:37:51affirmations and that you are truly
- 00:37:52motivating yourself to get to where you
- 00:37:54want to be and you believe that fully
- 00:37:56because i think that the law of
- 00:37:57attraction is very real and i think that
- 00:37:59manifestation is really real the more
- 00:38:00good energy you put out the more good
- 00:38:02energy is going to come right back to
- 00:38:03you so if you're
- 00:38:04really doubting yourself and not
- 00:38:06believing in yourself and kind of being
- 00:38:07insecure about your business
- 00:38:08then you're kind of putting that
- 00:38:09negativity towards yourself you need to
- 00:38:11honestly just believe in yourself even
- 00:38:12if you're scared about it i'm not going
- 00:38:13to say i'm like super confident about
- 00:38:15everything i do i'm definitely not but i
- 00:38:16do have to kind of
- 00:38:18put up that front for myself and tell
- 00:38:19myself because if i don't nobody else
- 00:38:21will and
- 00:38:22if i don't do it for myself nobody's
- 00:38:23gonna do it for me and it's not gonna do
- 00:38:25well so i'm not gonna sit here and say
- 00:38:26it's easy but
- 00:38:27uh it's definitely possible and you can
- 00:38:29definitely get through it just gotta
- 00:38:31block it out always block out the haters
- 00:38:32so that is it for today's video i hope
- 00:38:34you guys
- 00:38:34liked it and i hope that it was really
- 00:38:36helpful for you i do get a lot of
- 00:38:37questions about this all the time so
- 00:38:39i've been really wanting to make this
- 00:38:40video and hopefully putting all that
- 00:38:41information in a place where you can
- 00:38:43find it easily let me know if you guys
- 00:38:44have any other questions or if you guys
- 00:38:46have any fun little business things that
- 00:38:48you'd like to add in things that have
- 00:38:49worked for you or it didn't work for you
- 00:38:50let's just like talk about them down
- 00:38:51below and just share your stories and
- 00:38:53share your experiences because i think
- 00:38:54that the best way to learn is just
- 00:38:56through each other and
- 00:38:57through our own experiences anyway this
- 00:38:59wouldn't be a good business video if i
- 00:39:01didn't promote myself so feel free to
