- 00:00:00Hello and welcome to Opaul Explained. My
- 00:00:02friends call me David cuz that's my name
- 00:00:05legally and they have to. The 2025
- 00:00:07election is coming up and you may be
- 00:00:08wondering who you'd like to vote for and
- 00:00:10that requires research. I've just read
- 00:00:12the policy pages for every single
- 00:00:15political party registered federally in
- 00:00:18Australia. I'm going to give you a
- 00:00:20summary of them right now to help you on
- 00:00:23your decision-making journey. There will
- 00:00:26be no jokes or personal commentary. This
- 00:00:28is just a straightforward basic summary
- 00:00:30of the policies of every single party.
- 00:00:32Who you vote for is entirely up to you.
- 00:00:35I just want you to be informed when you
- 00:00:37vote. Now, occasionally parties change
- 00:00:39names, get dregistered, or are only
- 00:00:42registered on a state or territory
- 00:00:44level. So, if anyone is going to say in
- 00:00:46the comments, "Hey, you forgot to
- 00:00:47mention the blah blah party." No, I
- 00:00:49didn't. If someone is not on this list,
- 00:00:52they were not registered federally at
- 00:00:53the time of recording. So, we didn't
- 00:00:55forget anyone. Okay? things change over
- 00:00:57time. Speaking of changing over time,
- 00:00:59this is for the 2025 election. So,
- 00:01:02naturally, details of this list will
- 00:01:04change over time. Perhaps more policies
- 00:01:07will be announced closer to an election.
- 00:01:09So, this is just a broad overview
- 00:01:11designed to give you an impression. And
- 00:01:13I highly recommend you check out the
- 00:01:15websites of different political parties
- 00:01:17to learn more details and see what
- 00:01:19couldn't be included for the sake of
- 00:01:21time. And of course, look up any
- 00:01:23independents in your area as well. Those
- 00:01:25people can't be included in this list
- 00:01:27for obvious reasons. Though caveat, some
- 00:01:30people on this list are basically
- 00:01:32independents who have a political party
- 00:01:34registered. They are included for the
- 00:01:35sake of this being a list of every
- 00:01:37single political party. Another
- 00:01:38important thing to know is not every
- 00:01:40single party will run in your area. So
- 00:01:42check out aec.gov.au to find out what
- 00:01:46candidates you could potentially vote
- 00:01:47for. And one final quick note before I
- 00:01:50begin. There are some sections that
- 00:01:52include specific wording and phrasing
- 00:01:55from the policies as they were written
- 00:01:57on the website to preserve the intention
- 00:01:59of the party. Some elements are actually
- 00:02:01just copy pasted. That doesn't
- 00:02:03necessarily mean that I myself would use
- 00:02:05that phrasing or terminology. It's just
- 00:02:07to give you a more accurate impression
- 00:02:10and idea of what they talk about and
- 00:02:12how. and it's up to you to judge if
- 00:02:15that's something that you agree with or
- 00:02:17disagree with. Now, with all that
- 00:02:18housekeeping, let's get into it. Here
- 00:02:21they are in alphabetical order with some
- 00:02:24slight reshuffleling the policies of
- 00:02:26every single political party in
- 00:02:28Australia. The Animal Justice Party,
- 00:02:31they are a progressive party focused on
- 00:02:33animal welfare. They seek to recognize
- 00:02:36animals needs, capabilities, and
- 00:02:38interests as well as having greater
- 00:02:40protections for living standards of
- 00:02:41animals. This includes, but is not
- 00:02:44limited to, banning greyhound racing,
- 00:02:47phasing out animal experimentation, and
- 00:02:50an eventual end to animal agriculture on
- 00:02:53the grounds that it's harmful to both
- 00:02:55animals and the environment. Not all of
- 00:02:57their policies are about animals. Some
- 00:02:59include urgent climate action through a
- 00:03:02focus on plant agriculture,
- 00:03:04environmental rehabilitation, and an end
- 00:03:06of fossil fuel subsidies and a renewable
- 00:03:09energy transition. They support access
- 00:03:12to abortion, raising the age of criminal
- 00:03:14responsibility from 10 to 14, welcoming
- 00:03:17refugees to Australia, and the
- 00:03:19decriminalization of cannabis.
- 00:03:21Australian Christians. They are a
- 00:03:24right-wing party focused on conservative
- 00:03:26Christian values. They want to expand
- 00:03:29religious freedoms by ensuring religious
- 00:03:31schools are exempt from
- 00:03:32anti-discrimination laws and expanding
- 00:03:35chaplain programs to more schools. They
- 00:03:37want education reform so the curriculum
- 00:03:40is based on Judeo-Christian values
- 00:03:42instead of radical ideologies. They want
- 00:03:45limited government and to reduce
- 00:03:47regulation on businesses. They welcome
- 00:03:50refugees but specifically want to create
- 00:03:52a special assistance visa category for
- 00:03:55persecuted Christians and other
- 00:03:57minorities. They're pro-life. They're
- 00:03:59against abortion and voluntary assisted
- 00:04:02dying laws. They're anti-LGBT plus
- 00:04:05rights such as marriage equality or
- 00:04:07transgender rights and they're against
- 00:04:10vaccine mandates. Australian Citizens
- 00:04:13Party. Their policies are mainly about
- 00:04:16national independence and
- 00:04:18self-sufficient domestic industry. A
- 00:04:20central focus of theirs is also
- 00:04:22preserving the use of physical cash.
- 00:04:25They want to establish a public postal
- 00:04:27bank to operate out of Australia post to
- 00:04:29ensure people have access to both cash
- 00:04:32and don't need to rely on central and
- 00:04:34private banks. They then want to use the
- 00:04:37postal bank to invest in infrastructure
- 00:04:40and housing projects, domestic
- 00:04:42manufacturing and family farms and end a
- 00:04:45reliance on foreign borrowing. They're
- 00:04:47against Orcus and want independent
- 00:04:49foreign policy from the US and UK.
- 00:04:52They're pro-republic, want to ban
- 00:04:54corporate donations and only let
- 00:04:56individuals donate, return to state
- 00:04:59ownership of electricity, and reverse
- 00:05:01privatization. And they also publish
- 00:05:04pamphlets on various topics, including
- 00:05:06ones that make the claim that Elizabeth
- 00:05:08II ordered the assassination of Princess
- 00:05:10Diana and claimed that environmental
- 00:05:12policies to reduce carbon emissions are
- 00:05:14part of a deliberate plan by Prince
- 00:05:16Phillip and others to reduce the world
- 00:05:19population. Australian Democrats. They

- 00:05:44from 50% to 25% to slow down the
- 00:05:47increase in housing prices. raise
- 00:05:49welfare above the poverty line. They're
- 00:05:52pro- refugees and against offshore
- 00:05:54detention and boat turnbacks,
- 00:05:56anti-uclear energy and anti-uclear
- 00:05:59weapons,
- 00:06:00pro-LGBTQIA plus rights like banning
- 00:06:03conversion practices, and want age
- 00:06:05appropriate education programs to
- 00:06:07promote inclusion for all children and
- 00:06:10their families, including at faith
- 00:06:12schools. For climate action, they want a
- 00:06:1455% emissions reduction by 2030, a 20%
- 00:06:18super profits tax on non-renewable
- 00:06:21resource extraction, a carbon price, and
- 00:06:24to end fossil fuel subsidies. They want
- 00:06:26to establish a constitutional reform
- 00:06:28body to guide constitutional change on
- 00:06:31many things including becoming a
- 00:06:33republic, recognition of Aboriginal and
- 00:06:35toourist rate islanders as first nations
- 00:06:37peoples and fixing government terms as
- 00:06:40well as many other ideas. The Australian
- 00:06:43Greens, they're left-wing, socially
- 00:06:46progressive, whose main focuses are
- 00:06:48environmental policy and increasing
- 00:06:50spending on public services. The Greens

- 00:07:10They want to expand Medicare to include

- 00:08:45leave Orcus and cancel the nuclear
- 00:08:48submarine deal with the US that has a

- 00:08:55The Australian Labor Party, they're a

- 00:11:42voice. They are a center party founded
- 00:11:45in 2024 by former Labour senator for WA
- 00:11:48Fatima Payman. She resigned after
- 00:11:51crossing the floor to vote in support of
- 00:11:53recognizing Palestinian statethood while

- 00:12:42orcus. They want to maintain greater
- 00:12:44reserves of gas supply for domestic use
- 00:12:47instead of foreign exports to reduce
- 00:12:49local gas prices. Raise welfare above
- 00:12:52the poverty line. Automatically split
- 00:12:54couples superanuration in cases of abuse
- 00:12:57and domestic violence so those fleeing
- 00:12:59abuse can secure a financial future and
- 00:13:02treat climate change as an emergency.
- 00:13:05Better together party. The party
- 00:13:07consists of Lucy Bradllo and Brunwin
- 00:13:10Brock who are running in the Senate in
- 00:13:12Victoria. However, they want to do
- 00:13:14something that is a world first job
- 00:13:17sharing a single Senate seat. The idea
- 00:13:20is for them to both run as a joint unit
- 00:13:23for just one Senate position and if
- 00:13:27successful have one of them work for one
- 00:13:29week, then the other work the next week
- 00:13:32and so on and so on back and forth and
- 00:13:35then split the salary allowances and
- 00:13:37responsibility evenly. Their aim is to
- 00:13:40demonstrate a way to do politics through
- 00:13:42a more equitable work life balance and
- 00:13:45broaden representation. It also may not
- 00:13:48be constitutional and as of recording
- 00:13:50there's a challenge before the federal
- 00:13:52court to determine the legality of such
- 00:13:54an arrangement and it's unclear what
- 00:13:56will happen if their attempt to have a
- 00:13:58joint nomination for a single seat is
- 00:14:00rejected. But for the sake of
- 00:14:02completeness regardless of what
- 00:14:04arrangement they run under their
- 00:14:06policies are as such. They want strong
- 00:14:09action on climate change and an
- 00:14:11accelerated transition to renewable
- 00:14:13energy and electrification. They want
- 00:14:15the government to crack down on
- 00:14:17anti-competitive behavior in the
- 00:14:19groceries and energy sector to reduce
- 00:14:22the cost of living. They want to work
- 00:14:24with state and local governments to
- 00:14:26increase housing supply. They want
- 00:14:28greater power for the National
- 00:14:29Anti-Corruption Commission. Realtime
- 00:14:32disclosures of any donation above
- 00:14:34$2,000. want to promote gender equality
- 00:14:37and women's safety with proper funding
- 00:14:40to combat domestic abuse and violence
- 00:14:42against women and adequate funding for
- 00:14:44first responders. They want generous and
- 00:14:47equal access to paid parental leave that
- 00:14:49includes superanuation to encourage both
- 00:14:52men and women to take parental leave and
- 00:14:55create pipeline opportunities that will
- 00:14:57reduce highly gendered industries.
- 00:15:00Center Alliance, it's a center-aligned
- 00:15:02party based in South Australia. It was
- 00:15:05originally founded in 2013 as the Nick
- 00:15:07Zenapon team. It's gone through a few
- 00:15:10iterations and previous members, but now
- 00:15:13the only MP is Rebecca Shaki, who
- 00:15:15effectively is sitting as an independent
- 00:15:18for the seat of Mayo, but has kept the
- 00:15:20party registration. She is the only
- 00:15:23member running for this party. So for
- 00:15:25the people of Mayo, she wants antirust
- 00:15:27laws to break up the Coohl's and
- 00:15:29Woolly's duopoly and increase
- 00:15:31competition. increase funding for
- 00:15:33regional health services and regional
- 00:15:35public transport. Is open to a
- 00:15:38conversation about nuclear power as a
- 00:15:40part of our broader discussion about
- 00:15:42long-term energy solutions, but in the
- 00:15:44short term wants to improve
- 00:15:45affordability of home solar batteries.
- 00:15:48She also wants to end gambling
- 00:15:50advertising and compel gambling apps to
- 00:15:52share realtime information to people on
- 00:15:55how much they are losing, protect our
- 00:15:57biodiversity, and reduce plastic
- 00:15:59pollution. more funding for child care
- 00:16:02based off areas with the greatest need.
- 00:16:05Preserve local farmland and support
- 00:16:07local grown food and local manufacturing
- 00:16:10and says new housing in regions must be
- 00:16:12sympathetic to the environment
- 00:16:14complimentary to existing housing and
- 00:16:16supported by appropriate transit and
- 00:16:18social infrastructure. She supports
- 00:16:21affordable housing options particularly
- 00:16:23for the elderly and disadvantaged. The
- 00:16:25coalition. The coalition is a
- 00:16:27combination of the Liberals, the
- 00:16:29Nationals, and the Country Liberal Party
- 00:16:31in the Northern Territory. In
- 00:16:33Queensland, the Liberals and Nationals
- 00:16:35fuse to form the Liberal National Party
- 00:16:37or LNP, but federally LNP members can
- 00:16:40choose to sit as either liberals or
- 00:16:43nationals. Overall, the parties are
- 00:16:45center right to right-wing and socially
- 00:16:47conservative. They have a formal
- 00:16:49agreement to work together in government
- 00:16:51and opposition with the exception of the
- 00:16:54nationals in WA which isn't part of the
- 00:16:56coalition and sits separately on the
- 00:16:58crossbench. When in government the usual
- 00:17:01arrangement is that the leader of the
- 00:17:03Liberals is the prime minister while the
- 00:17:05leader of the nationals is the deputy
- 00:17:06prime minister. While they formulate
- 00:17:08shared policies they each have their own
- 00:17:11focus and contributions to the
- 00:17:13coalition. So I'm going to break down
- 00:17:15some of that. the country liberal party
- 00:17:17from the Northern Territory. It only
- 00:17:20runs in the Northern Territory and hopes
- 00:17:22to achieve statethood for the territory.
- 00:17:24Its values include traditional
- 00:17:26conservative values and liberal values
- 00:17:28of individualism. Their platform
- 00:17:30involves being tough on crime by having
- 00:17:33tougher bail laws, keeping the age of
- 00:17:35criminal responsibility at 10, and
- 00:17:37building more prisons. They want to
- 00:17:39attract and keep more frontline workers
- 00:17:41in the Northern Territory through
- 00:17:43federal tax breaks and migration
- 00:17:45exemptions, including changes to the
- 00:17:47zone tax offset and designated area
- 00:17:50migration agreement or DMER. The Liberal
- 00:17:53Party of Australia, they are the largest
- 00:17:55of the coalition parties. They run
- 00:17:58mainly, but not exclusively in
- 00:18:00metropolitan areas. They want to reduce
- 00:18:02spending on public services while
- 00:18:04favoring the growth of private industry
- 00:18:06through reduction of regulation and
- 00:18:08cutting red tape. Their energy policy is
- 00:18:11to greatly increase domestic gas
- 00:18:13production in the immediate term while
- 00:18:16invest in nuclear energy for the long
- 00:18:17term with the goal of building nuclear
- 00:18:20power plants in at least 15 to 20 years
- 00:18:23time. They want to reduce the power of
- 00:18:25unions in the workplace. Introduce a
- 00:18:28$20,000 tax deduction for businesses to
- 00:18:30spend on meals and entertainment. Allow
- 00:18:33people to access their superanuation
- 00:18:35early to help pay for a house deposit.
- 00:18:38Invest $5 billion for housing
- 00:18:40infrastructure. Freeze changes to the
- 00:18:42National Construction Code for 10 years.
- 00:18:45Introduce a 2-year ban on foreign
- 00:18:48investors buying existing homes. reduce
- 00:18:51permanent immigration from 185,000 to
- 00:18:54140,000 for 2 years. Then gradually
- 00:18:57increase it 150,000 in year 3 and
- 00:19:01160,000 in year 4. Reduce foreign
- 00:19:04student numbers. Work with states and
- 00:19:07territories for uniform and tough knife
- 00:19:09laws and tougher bail laws. Crack down
- 00:19:12on what they say are anti-semitic
- 00:19:14student protests and remove woke agendas
- 00:19:17from educational curriculums. They also
- 00:19:19want to invest $9 billion into more bulk
- 00:19:22billing GP visits and have the fuel
- 00:19:25excise for 12 months, reducing the cost
- 00:19:28of petrol by 25 cents a liter. The
- 00:19:30National Party, they're focused on
- 00:19:32regional and country areas of Australia
- 00:19:35and as a result run mainly in those
- 00:19:37areas. They support regional families
- 00:19:40and industries like agriculture and
- 00:19:42mining. Similar to the Liberals, their
- 00:19:44energy policy is about increasing gas
- 00:19:47supply to reduce prices. They want to
- 00:19:49crack down on supermarket price gouging
- 00:19:52by creating a supermarket commissioner,
- 00:19:54$2 million on the spot fines, and big
- 00:19:57stick competition laws that deliver
- 00:19:59fairer prices for farmers at the farm
- 00:20:02gate and families at the checkout. They
- 00:20:04want more GPS, specialists, and nurses
- 00:20:06practicing in country areas by
- 00:20:08increasing incentives and opportunities
- 00:20:11for medical professionals to train,
- 00:20:13live, and work in the regions. They want
- 00:20:15more investment in regional road,
- 00:20:17bridge, and water infrastructure.
- 00:20:19National Party of WA again focused on
- 00:20:22supporting regional and country areas
- 00:20:24and agricultural and mining industries.
- 00:20:27But just a reminder that if a Nationals
- 00:20:29WA member was elected federally, they'd
- 00:20:31sit on the crossbench, not with the
- 00:20:33coalition. However, they do have similar
- 00:20:36ideas to the other Nationals branches in
- 00:20:39that they want investment in regional
- 00:20:42development, water security, property
- 00:20:44rights for farmers, and want to attract
- 00:20:46and retain professionals like teachers
- 00:20:49in regional areas. Daley and Frank
- 00:20:52Caboni, WSC, formed in 2023 by D. Lee, a
- 00:20:57former Liberal member who is serving
- 00:20:59both as the federal member for Fowler as
- 00:21:01well as currently the deputy mayor for
- 00:21:03Fairfield City Council. In combination
- 00:21:06with Frank Carboni, a former Labour
- 00:21:09member and current mayor of Fairfield.
- 00:21:11While DY is part of the party, she sits
- 00:21:14as an independent in the federal
- 00:21:16parliament, but labels herself as a real
- 00:21:19independent as opposed to teal
- 00:21:22independence because she has no backing
- 00:21:24by climate 200, a climate focused
- 00:21:27funding body. WSC stands for Western
- 00:21:30Sydney Community and it's the aim of the
- 00:21:32party to improve infrastructure for that
- 00:21:34area such as rail and bus services to
- 00:21:37the Western Sydney airport, more funding
- 00:21:40for parks, walkways, and bike paths, and
- 00:21:43a MRI machine at Fairfield Hospital.
- 00:21:46They want to increase the Medicare
- 00:21:48rebate for working families, create
- 00:21:50incentives for GPS to work in
- 00:21:52communities like Fowler. Just as
- 00:21:54regional GPS receive extra support, so
- 00:21:57should there be incentives for lower
- 00:21:59socioeconomic areas, they also want to
- 00:22:02support small businesses and local jobs
- 00:22:04by increasing the instant asset write
- 00:22:06off to
- 00:22:08$50,000. Make arts and social science
- 00:22:10university degrees cheaper by reducing
- 00:22:12the maximum amount that students can be
- 00:22:14charged from
- 00:22:16$15,142 down to
- 00:22:19$4,124 a unit. They also want to reform
- 00:22:22the energy generation and retail market
- 00:22:25to support a fairer, more efficient
- 00:22:27energy sector, cut the fuel excise and
- 00:22:30raise the tax-free threshold as cost of
- 00:22:33living relief measures. David PCO. It's
- 00:22:36a progressive party founded in 2021 by
- 00:22:39former rugby union member turned senator
- 00:22:41for the ACT, David PCO. While he sits as
- 00:22:45an independent in the Senate, he
- 00:22:47registered a political party so he could
- 00:22:49appear above the line on the Senate
- 00:22:51ballot. He wants greater investment in
- 00:22:54public services and institutions. So
- 00:22:57more funding for infrastructure, health,
- 00:23:00education, the ABC, mental health
- 00:23:02services, specialist care, the NIS, and
- 00:23:05aged care. They want to legislate a duty
- 00:23:08of care for young people and future
- 00:23:10generations when it comes to climate
- 00:23:12change and the environment as well as
- 00:23:15investment for homes to transition from
- 00:23:17gas to electrification to reduce
- 00:23:19emissions and energy bills and wants an
- 00:23:22ambitious 2035 emissions reduction
- 00:23:25target. They also want to increase
- 00:23:27competition for key industries like
- 00:23:29supermarkets, airlines, and banks.
- 00:23:32Greater powers for the federal
- 00:23:33anti-corruption watchdog. truth in
- 00:23:36political advertising laws, quadruple

- 00:24:13They're against diversity training,
- 00:24:15which they describe as coercive and
- 00:24:17woke. They want to abolish anti-
- 00:24:20vilification and anti-discrimination

- 00:24:25religion. They want to make the criminal
- 00:24:28justice system prioritize rehabilitation
- 00:24:30programs for young people instead of
- 00:24:32prison for first offenses. They also
- 00:24:35want to provide tax incentives to
- 00:24:37encourage married couples to have
- 00:24:39children, mandate age verification
- 00:24:41measures to protect children from adult
- 00:24:43content online. They doubt the
- 00:24:45legitimacy of climate change and are
- 00:24:48against a net zero target. Instead, they
- 00:24:51support more gas for energy and want to
- 00:24:53lift restrictions on exploration. They
- 00:24:56also support coal and nuclear energy.

- 00:25:23Party, which combined in 2021 when the
- 00:25:26requirement for party registration rose
- 00:25:28from 500 to,500 members. They focus on
- 00:25:32science investment, environmental
- 00:25:34action, secular humanism, and reforms to

- 00:25:56sustainability. Invest in research and
- 00:25:58development for future technologies,
- 00:26:00including overturning the ban on nuclear
- 00:26:03power for the purpose of research into

- 00:30:42indigenous peers or elders to be
- 00:30:44provided instead. They wish to reduce
- 00:30:47incarcerations by using jail as a last
