00:00:04
clinical Excellence meets excellent
00:00:07
results
00:00:08
today we're going to talk about NAC or n
00:00:12
acetylcysteine is a very potent
00:00:14
antioxidant as well as a
00:00:17
anti-inflammatory so we're going to
00:00:19
discuss some of the foods the benefits
00:00:22
of taking it what can it affect and some
00:00:24
of the dosages that you can take to
00:00:27
benefit from taking NAC
00:00:30
so the food sources are onions and
00:00:34
garlic
00:00:35
NAC
00:00:36
will go and convert to El cysteine and
00:00:40
with some sulfur containing foods it
00:00:44
will convert in the liver and make
00:00:45
glutathione
00:00:47
now glutathione is a very important
00:00:50
antioxidant right it's one of the most
00:00:52
potent ones that our body can produce
00:00:55
so the benefits are that it helps the
00:00:58
detoxification Pathways right improves
00:01:01
insulin sensitivity or insulin
00:01:03
resistance or diabetes right so it helps
00:01:07
blood sugar management
00:01:09
also it's an anti-inflammatory it
00:01:12
affects cytokines so things like tumor
00:01:16
necrosis Factor
00:01:17
interleukins or NF Kappa B it helps
00:01:21
balance your immune system right so
00:01:24
oftentimes we give patients glutathione
00:01:26
for people who have autoimmune processes
00:01:28
to help calm the inflammatory process
00:01:32
and help calm the immune system
00:01:35
the other one we talked about was PCOS
00:01:37
and that relates to the insulin
00:01:39
sensitivity right
00:01:41
brain it affects dopamine centers as
00:01:44
well as excitatory centers for glutamate
00:01:47
right
00:01:49
dopamine is basically the pleasure
00:01:52
neurotransmitter so if you can affect
00:01:55
dopamine it will help with addiction
00:01:58
bipolar disease depression OCD as well
00:02:03
as anxiety and there are quite a number
00:02:06
of studies on this how NAC can benefit
00:02:09
patients who have OCD and the anxiety
00:02:12
level that comes with it
00:02:14
glutamate
00:02:15
the benefits of glutamate for some
00:02:17
patients is that it will prevent or slow
00:02:20
down Alzheimer's as well as Parkinson's
00:02:22
disease over here okay
00:02:24
another thing is it helps to thin out
00:02:27
mucus in the lungs so if you have
00:02:29
pneumonia or if you have
00:02:32
um
00:02:34
pulmonary obstructive disease right it
00:02:36
can help thin the mucus and help the
00:02:39
breathing aspect of these diseases
00:02:42
as a matter of fact in the 1963 it was
00:02:46
classified as a drug and they used it
00:02:49
for lung disease right and they still
00:02:53
use it for acetaminophen overdose or
00:02:55
Tylenol overdose because it can
00:02:58
significantly impact the liver so they
00:03:00
use NAC as a drug basically
00:03:04
now recently they've had issues with the
00:03:07
FDA and Amazon basically removed all NAC
00:03:12
Products off their site
00:03:13
however it is still commercially
00:03:15
available and can be bought through
00:03:18
nutrition stores and nutrition shops
00:03:20
okay
00:03:21
so
00:03:22
about dosages
00:03:25
when we look at NAC
00:03:28
you can take anywhere between 600 to
00:03:31
1800 milligrams a day in divided doses
00:03:34
is best taken on an empty stomach
00:03:37
however if you get things like nausea or
00:03:40
loose stool then you might want to take
00:03:42
it after your meal okay
00:03:45
things that will enhance an AC is things
00:03:49
like selenium
00:03:50
cordyceps
00:03:52
and go to Cola
00:03:55
so with these combined nutrients with
00:03:57
NAC you can basically help to recycle
00:04:00
glutathione and improve your antioxidant
00:04:03
levels and improve overall health right
00:04:06
because when you have a lot of oxidation
00:04:09
and stress to our body what happens is
00:04:12
tissues break down
00:04:13
every cell in your body will take an
00:04:15
oxidative blow and glutathione is what
00:04:19
that protective shield is it helps you
00:04:21
protect against oxidation as well as the
00:04:24
inflammatory process so NSC is a very
00:04:27
important nutrient for a lot of
00:04:30
different patients
00:04:31
so with respect to let's say covid and
00:04:34
you have lung issues or breathing issues
00:04:36
or mucus in your lungs and a NAC can be
00:04:40
of benefit for those patients
00:04:44
who have a lot of lung and mucus built
00:04:47
up within within the lung structures
00:04:49
right obviously they use things like
00:04:52
prone positioning to help release some
00:04:56
of the mucus but as well as NAC being
00:04:59
utilized it would be the added benefit
00:05:02
okay
00:05:05
today we're going to talk about Knack or
00:05:08
an acetylcysteine
00:05:10
last week's video generated a lot of
00:05:12
questions about how glutathione will
00:05:14
work and what is the mechanisms and what
00:05:17
are some of the supplements you can take
00:05:18
to improve glutathione levels so let's
00:05:21
go into it so the main purpose of taking
00:05:24
Knack or endocetylcysteine is to improve
00:05:27
glutathione levels
00:05:28
glutathione is a tripeptide so it's made
00:05:31
up of three amino acids glycine
00:05:34
l-glutamic acid and l-cysteine right so
00:05:38
NAC or endocetylcysteine will convert to
00:05:41
l-cysteine and help convert into
00:05:43
glutathione
00:05:45
so one of the most important thing is
00:05:47
that you have to understand is
00:05:49
it's one of the most potent antioxidants
00:05:52
that our body can produce right so it
00:05:55
reduces the effects of what we call
00:05:58
reactive oxygen species
00:06:01
right so reactive oxygen species Ros
00:06:05
that means is that
00:06:07
our body is under constant stress right
00:06:10
oxidative stress
00:06:11
so what happens with reactive oxygen
00:06:14
species right it's produced in the
00:06:16
mitochondria right and if it's produced
00:06:18
it starts to damage some of the
00:06:20
structures
00:06:21
as well as the pathways right in order
00:06:24
to produce energy
00:06:26
and that damage will cause inflammation
00:06:28
and inflammation in turn will produce
00:06:31
more reactive oxygen species
00:06:34
so this kind of a vicious cycle that can
00:06:36
occur when we have oxygen reactive
00:06:39
oxygen species so glutathione is a very
00:06:42
important antioxidant to help recycle
00:06:45
some of the glutathione as well as
00:06:48
improving or reducing the oxidative
00:06:51
effects okay
00:06:53
so what we know oral administration of
00:06:56
glutathione gsh right
00:06:59
it does not adequately restore
00:07:02
glutathione right if you take orally
00:07:04
glutathione it doesn't restore
00:07:06
glutathione to an adequate level
00:07:09
it rapidly breaks down uh in our body by
00:07:13
the liver and the intestines right so
00:07:15
the glutathione is broken down before it
00:07:17
can be ever utilized if you take it
00:07:19
orally
00:07:20
it does not cross the cell membrane so
00:07:24
glutathione needs to be kind of taken
00:07:26
apart going to the cell and rebuilt so
00:07:29
it will not cross as a whole structure
00:07:33
and also in some studies glutathione the
00:07:36
half-life of it is only about 90 minutes
00:07:38
so it's short-lived
00:07:40
so the question is how do we improve
00:07:43
that right
00:07:44
you also have to know that glutathione
00:07:46
will decrease as we age so the older you
00:07:49
get the glute ion stores will go down
00:07:52
creating more reactive oxygen species
00:07:55
more inflammation and basically aging
00:07:58
right
00:07:59
so let's go ahead and look at some of
00:08:01
the supplements that we can take
00:08:04
but before we even do supplements what
00:08:07
kind of foods can we eat right to help
00:08:09
improve glutathione levels so you want
00:08:12
to increase sulfur containing foods
00:08:14
right onion garlic broccoli kale
00:08:19
now I know whey protein can also improve
00:08:22
glutathione levels and certain weeds
00:08:25
however for most patients that we treat
00:08:28
in our office
00:08:30
they have some sort of autoimmune
00:08:31
condition so whey protein or milk
00:08:34
protein and wheat is really a No-No in
00:08:37
our office so if you want to go after
00:08:40
sulfur-containing Foods I would suggest
00:08:42
going with these okay it's very
00:08:45
important to improve sulfur containing
00:08:47
foods the other one is exercise exercise
00:08:50
in itself will improve glutathione
00:08:53
levels right
00:08:54
and thirdly is coffee enemas now coffee
00:08:58
enemas are
00:09:00
known to help with cancer treatments
00:09:03
right the Gerson Therapy and so forth
00:09:05
however does it improve glutathione
00:09:08
levels now that's questionable right
00:09:10
there are some studies they say that you
00:09:13
know taking oral caffeine as well as
00:09:15
coffee enemas really don't improve
00:09:18
glutathione levels however coffee does
00:09:20
have a lot of antioxidants so there are
00:09:22
some benefits of drinking coffee however
00:09:25
in terms of actually improving
00:09:27
glutathione levels it's questionable
00:09:30
right so you can give it a try but there
00:09:34
are other ways that you can improve
00:09:36
glutathione levels at this point right
00:09:39
one of the supplements that you can take
00:09:41
is s acetyl-l glutathione right
00:09:45
basically what they did was they
00:09:46
attached an acetyl group to the
00:09:48
glutathione
00:09:49
and then it helps to protect the
00:09:51
glutathione as it passes through the gut
00:09:53
or the stomach and it also helps improve
00:09:57
cell membrane transmission or transport
00:10:01
so an acetyl group attached to the
00:10:04
glutathione will help preserve the
00:10:06
glutathione and get it to the cells that
00:10:09
need it
00:10:10
another way is to do liposomal
00:10:12
glutathione and the way they do that is
00:10:14
they bind glutathione to
00:10:17
phospholipids so if you add it to a
00:10:19
phospholip lipid it can kind of protect
00:10:21
the glutathione so it can get absorbed
00:10:23
in the gut as well as through the cell
00:10:26
membrane right so it has that effect so
00:10:28
you can do it s acetyl glutathione and a
00:10:32
liposomal glutathione okay now there are
00:10:36
other precursors that you can take to
00:10:38
help enhance what we call recycling of
00:10:41
the glutathione because glutathione is
00:10:43
produced in our body but if you have
00:10:45
some raw materials that help build
00:10:47
glutathione or recycle glutathione it
00:10:51
can be quite beneficial and quite
00:10:53
powerful in terms of health benefits
00:10:56
so some of the precursors or what we
00:10:58
call regenerators right recycling
00:11:00
glutathione
00:11:02
is selenium okay and then alpha lipoic
00:11:06
acid
00:11:07
and Knack which is an acetylcysteine
00:11:10
cordyceps extracts
00:11:13
go to Cola extracts
00:11:15
milk thistle extracts
00:11:18
and L-glutamine so if you took this on
00:11:21
let's say an empty stomach
00:11:24
and you followed it with let's say an
00:11:26
omega-3 or an EPA DHA fish oil you can
00:11:30
enhance the absorption of glutathione
00:11:32
into our system having a more profound
00:11:35
effect
00:11:36
now there are many companies that make
00:11:38
you know combination packets of this
00:11:40
right I'll list some of the supplements
00:11:43
that we use in our office Below in the
00:11:45
description so you want to go ahead and
00:11:47
read through that but there are a couple
00:11:50
of different delivery methods that we
00:11:52
use one is the
00:11:54
um oral glutathione where we do s
00:11:58
acetyl-l-glutathione and
00:11:59
liposopylchonathione
00:12:01
but we will also use a combination of
00:12:04
these
00:12:05
to enhance the recycling properties so
00:12:09
you can take two different types of
00:12:11
glutathione support
00:12:13
and third way that we can also improve
00:12:16
glutathione is through transdermal
00:12:20
transmission so if you took a cream that
00:12:23
has glutathione in it and some cofactors
00:12:26
and you apply it to the specific area
00:12:28
that you want to treat
00:12:30
so let's say we have someone who's got
00:12:32
Hashimoto's thyroiditis or inflammation
00:12:35
of the thyroid you can take a
00:12:37
glutathione cream and apply it to the
00:12:40
neck and that will help reduce the
00:12:43
inflammatory process as well as
00:12:47
reduce maybe TPO and TG antibodies in
00:12:50
our body so it's very important to do
00:12:53
combination therapies for some patients
00:12:55
or some people will be on a maintenance
00:12:57
dose and all they need is some recycling
00:13:00
nutrients like this
00:13:02
right but in our patient population
00:13:04
where they come in pretty sick we may
00:13:06
load them up on glutathione in three
00:13:08
different ways to help improve that so
00:13:11
it's very important to understand the
00:13:13
mechanisms and understand how we can
00:13:15
take it to improve glutathione levels in
00:13:17
our body all right
00:13:22
today we're going to talk about the
00:13:24
different delivery methods for NAC or n
00:13:27
acetylcysteine and glutathione
00:13:30
before I get started on the delivery
00:13:32
methods let's just recap what NAC is and
00:13:36
what glutathione is and the benefits and
00:13:38
so forth
00:13:39
I've made videos on this topic before so
00:13:42
I'll go ahead and Link the video below
00:13:44
so you can watch those videos and get a
00:13:46
little bit more in-depth view of what
00:13:49
NAC and glutathione is so let's get
00:13:52
right into it
00:13:54
an AC delivery method okay food sources
00:13:57
first so NAC
00:13:59
or an acetylcysteine you can get from
00:14:03
cruciferous vegetables garlic onions
00:14:06
meat fish chicken turkey eggs and whey
00:14:10
protein basically it's prevalent in
00:14:13
animal products and garlic and onions
00:14:15
and cruciferous vegetables
00:14:17
[Music]
00:14:18
exercise also will increase glutathione
00:14:21
and because glutathione is so important
00:14:24
for reducing what we call Ros or
00:14:26
reactive oxygen species
00:14:30
benefits of NAC and glutathione improves
00:14:34
detox improves insulin resistance PCOS
00:14:37
or polycystic ovarian syndrome important
00:14:41
for brain because it helps dopamine and
00:14:43
glutamate
00:14:44
it's important for things like addiction
00:14:46
problems bipolar OCD obsessive
00:14:49
compulsive disorders depression and
00:14:52
anxiety also it's very important for
00:14:55
anti-inflammatory effects so it dampens
00:14:58
inflammation by impacting some of the
00:15:01
cytokines
00:15:02
helps to thin out the mucus of the lungs
00:15:06
so if you have lung infection or cough
00:15:09
it can help definitely clear out some of
00:15:11
that in the lungs
00:15:13
now in 1963
00:15:16
glutathione or NAC was classified as a
00:15:19
drug okay and they used the four lung
00:15:22
problems right chronic lung issues and
00:15:26
they also used it for acetaminophen
00:15:29
overdose
00:15:30
they still use it to this day
00:15:34
now enhancers and regenerators of
00:15:37
glutathione things that enhance
00:15:39
glutathione production are things like
00:15:42
selenium alpha lipoic acid Knack or NAC
00:15:48
cordyceps gauticula and milk thistle you
00:15:53
can use also L-glutamine and some fish
00:15:55
oil to help enhance absorption and
00:15:58
recycling
00:16:00
what we say enhancers and regenerators
00:16:03
glutathione is produced in the liver and
00:16:06
it can be recycled and improved for
00:16:09
reuse so basically glutathione is the
00:16:13
most important antioxidant or most
00:16:16
powerful antioxidant in our body it
00:16:18
takes the blow the oxidative stress
00:16:21
NAC is the precursor to glutathione
00:16:24
again I'll link those videos below so
00:16:27
you can watch those and get a better
00:16:28
understanding of what NAC does and what
00:16:31
glutathione does okay so let's get into
00:16:36
delivery methods
00:16:38
NAC and glutathione
00:16:41
first of all this oral delivery methods
00:16:43
you can use I use a product called
00:16:46
glutathione recycler
00:16:48
so here's the product okay I don't know
00:16:50
if you guys can see that but it's called
00:16:52
glutathione recycler it's made by Apex
00:16:55
energetics now I don't I am not
00:16:57
sponsored or I don't get any funding or
00:17:00
anything from these nutritional
00:17:02
companies I find that if I get funded by
00:17:05
nutritional companies my opinion might
00:17:08
skew as to what might be best for my
00:17:10
patients so it's just a product that I
00:17:13
use I really like it it's called
00:17:16
glutathione recycler from Apex
00:17:18
energetics this has all the precursors
00:17:21
for glutathione so all the things that
00:17:24
we talked about things like the
00:17:26
cordyceps goldacola milk thistle NAC
00:17:29
it's all in this one little product it
00:17:33
was formulated by Dr corazian or Dr K
00:17:36
some of you who watch my videos might
00:17:38
know of him he's very big into the
00:17:41
functional medicine uh teaching World
00:17:43
he's an excellent clinician as well and
00:17:46
he formulated this okay so this is one
00:17:50
we can use
00:17:51
as a precursor for Knack or NAC you want
00:17:56
to use between 600 and 1800 milligrams
00:17:59
per day in divided doses on an empty
00:18:02
stomach is usually best
00:18:03
however
00:18:05
if you miss your dosage go ahead and
00:18:08
take it after the meal it's better to
00:18:10
take it than not take it at all so there
00:18:13
are ideal time to take supplements but
00:18:16
not everyone can do those times so if
00:18:18
you miss it and if you can't do it on an
00:18:20
empty stomach just go ahead and take it
00:18:22
after the meal okay so that's one oral
00:18:25
delivery method
00:18:28
the other oral delivery method is I use
00:18:31
a product called tumero active and this
00:18:34
also has
00:18:35
the L glutathione it has
00:18:39
um
00:18:41
acetylchlorathione so it had the the
00:18:43
trisomal has this it has an AC which is
00:18:46
the precursor for producing glutathione
00:18:48
it has liposomal glutathione and S
00:18:52
acetyl-l-chlorophyone all in one
00:18:55
so it's a great delivery method because
00:18:59
glutathione breaks down very easily in
00:19:01
the gut the idea is to use different
00:19:04
forms of it to bypass the gut and get it
00:19:07
absorbed better in the GI tract so
00:19:11
that's why they came up these
00:19:12
formulations where they use liposomal
00:19:14
and an acetylated version of it so these
00:19:18
are the two products I would use in my
00:19:20
office
00:19:21
that helps with glutathione and
00:19:24
chlorothiaone recycling okay
00:19:27
now
00:19:28
number one number two is called
00:19:31
transdermal we use a product it's a
00:19:34
cream called oxycell and what you do is
00:19:38
with this cream you can apply it to the
00:19:40
skin it has a great local
00:19:43
anti-inflammatory effect as well as
00:19:46
antioxidant effects so you'll apply like
00:19:49
a small amount of this cream so let's
00:19:51
say you have a thyroid issue you have
00:19:53
Hashimoto's thyroiditis and inflammatory
00:19:55
process of the thyroid or autoimmune
00:19:57
process
00:19:58
you can apply a little bit of that
00:20:00
glutathione cream right into the area
00:20:03
that you want to infect uh effect and
00:20:07
dampen the inflammation in that local
00:20:10
area so transdermally you can use it in
00:20:13
soft areas any vascular areas or areas
00:20:17
that you want to Target so we have a
00:20:19
product called oxycell
00:20:21
we can also use a suppository for
00:20:24
glutathione
00:20:26
so this is a product that we can use
00:20:28
it's called xenaplex and this this is a
00:20:32
suppository and in that suppository it
00:20:34
has organic coffee extract and
00:20:36
glutathione
00:20:37
so after uh having a normal bowel
00:20:40
movement or evacuating your bowels you
00:20:43
can do a suppository to help uh boost
00:20:47
glutathione and bypassing the gut okay
00:20:50
so that's another delivery method
00:20:53
the final delivery method is nebulizing
00:20:56
glutathione I use a product called
00:20:58
l-glutathione Plus
00:21:00
right there
00:21:02
and it's from a company called Vera
00:21:05
Naturals and I'll like to link the
00:21:07
product below for you
00:21:10
okay and what you do is you open up one
00:21:12
of the capsules
00:21:14
so you take a glutathione capsule like
00:21:16
this
00:21:18
like this product right here
00:21:20
and you get a nebulizer and this is just
00:21:23
the apparatus I would use for the
00:21:26
nebulizing portion of it so you open up
00:21:29
a capsule
00:21:30
and let's say you drop it in here you
00:21:32
open the capsule throw it in there right
00:21:33
you can use a little bit of saline
00:21:36
solution that you can use for like nasal
00:21:38
rinses or you can use distilled water
00:21:41
and you put a little bit in here
00:21:43
and you close it up
00:21:46
you'll use a little nebulizing machine
00:21:48
that you attach to the bottom of this
00:21:50
and you take it and you breathe it in
00:21:54
now there are different ways to do this
00:21:56
with different machines out there you
00:21:57
can use kind of something to mystify or
00:22:00
Mist uh the the product and you
00:22:04
basically can gently breathe it in right
00:22:06
if you have a lot of sinus problems you
00:22:08
breathe in through the nose out through
00:22:10
the mouth if you have lung problems you
00:22:12
want to breathe in deeply and get it
00:22:14
into the lungs a bit so you can use
00:22:16
glutathione to help in multiple ways it
00:22:20
has multiple delivery methods that you
00:22:23
can utilize and when you're sick you can
00:22:26
use probably all of the delivery methods
00:22:29
to really boost your glutathione levels
00:22:31
and to recover from health issues so
00:22:37
those are great different methods I'll
00:22:38
go ahead and Link the products below
00:22:40
also unfortunately unfortunately some of
00:22:43
the products are prescription only from
00:22:46
a physician so you have to find the
00:22:47
physician who's willing to prescribe it
00:22:49
for you but I'll try to link equivalent
00:22:52
products there for you
00:22:54
