00:00:00
There's a topic I cover from time to
00:00:02
time that always seems to ruffle some
00:00:04
feathers and get people squirming in
00:00:06
their chairs in anger because I have
00:00:08
less than kind things to say about the
00:00:11
some of the biggest players in the
00:00:12
industry. But I just can't help myself.
00:00:16
I can't bite my tongue on it. I I'm like
00:00:18
Winnie the Pooh poking a beehive because
00:00:20
I'm addicted to the honey inside. And in
00:00:22
this case, that honey is vindication.
00:00:25
For a while now, I have ba humbugged
00:00:29
Vtuber agencies. I've seen a lot of the
00:00:32
contracts that some of the top talent
00:00:34
were under locked into with these
00:00:36
organizations and they are
00:00:38
extraordinarily corrupt. I think the
00:00:42
agencies in this space are exploitative
00:00:44
and they treat their talent more like
00:00:46
prisoners. I It is unbelievable the
00:00:49
depths of greed that these agencies in
00:00:52
the VTuber space have succumbed to. But
00:00:54
before I dive deeper into the spaghetti
00:00:56
and the meatballs on my disdain for
00:00:58
VTuber agencies in the industry, I would
00:01:01
like to give you the catalyst for why
00:01:02
I'm talking about it again today. It's
00:01:03
because Iron Mouse just made a really
00:01:06
sad video about why she's leaving V
00:01:09
Showjo. V Showjo being another huge
00:01:12
player in the VTuber space. They are a
00:01:14
massive agency that's represented some
00:01:16
of the top talent. Unfortunately, I
00:01:19
recently found out that for the past
00:01:21
couple of months, I have been misled by
00:01:24
Vishojo. With the information that I
00:01:27
currently have, I believe that I am owed
00:01:30
a significant amount of funds which I
00:01:33
have not been paid. And most
00:01:35
importantly, the thing that hurts me the
00:01:38
most is that the Immune Deficiency
00:01:40
Foundation, which is the most important
00:01:43
charity to me and also the reason why I
00:01:47
am here today, is owed over half a
00:01:50
million dollars from V Showjo.
00:01:51
For those that don't know who Iron Mouse
00:01:53
is, she is one of the biggest streamers
00:01:55
on Twitch in terms of subscribers. She
00:01:58
even broke the all-time subscriber
00:02:00
record and she has a primary immuno
00:02:03
deficiency disease. She has CVID, so she
00:02:07
does a lot of charitable work for this
00:02:08
organization. And apparently, she's just
00:02:10
discovered that V Showjo hasn't fully
00:02:14
paid what they owed her personally, and
00:02:16
they haven't paid the money that they
00:02:18
owe to the charitable foundation that
00:02:20
she was fundraising for, something that
00:02:22
she does often. But V Showjo is required
00:02:27
in this process because they handle her
00:02:31
money in certain cases, which is not
00:02:33
uncommon in the space. Like I'm going to
00:02:36
get deeper into like a lot of things
00:02:37
with VTuber agencies that I've tiptoed
00:02:40
around quite a bit in the past, but I
00:02:42
don't want to like fully go into the
00:02:43
weeds of it here. But let me just go
00:02:45
ahead and explain where that number is
00:02:46
coming from. The half a million owed to
00:02:48
charity that V Showjo still hasn't paid.
00:02:51
They promptly sent the payment and the
00:02:52
subbathon was a huge success. So I
00:02:55
decided to do it again the next year. My
00:02:58
last subadon was one of the biggest
00:03:00
events I've ever done. The support was
00:03:03
overwhelming and I ended up getting over
00:03:06
300,000 subscribers and breaking the
00:03:09
all-time subre. But this also meant that
00:03:12
we had raised $515,000
00:03:16
for the immune deficiency foundation. I
00:03:18
once again asked Vishojo to make the
00:03:20
donation on my behalf.
00:03:23
But unfortunately,
00:03:25
still a year later, Vishojo has not paid
00:03:28
the charity.
00:03:29
So, in a nutshell, Iron Mouse ran a
00:03:31
subathon. It was extremely successful
00:03:32
and raised a ton of money, hundreds of
00:03:34
thousands of dollars for the immune
00:03:36
deficiency foundation. And Vojo did pay
00:03:39
it out the first time around. But when
00:03:41
she came back for the second time the
00:03:43
following year, it was even bigger. It
00:03:45
broke records and it raised over
00:03:47
$500,000 that was supposed to go to the
00:03:50
immune deficiency foundation that has
00:03:52
still not been paid out to the
00:03:54
charitable organization to this day
00:03:56
according to Iron Mouse. Now, I've seen
00:03:59
a little bit of confusion, people
00:04:00
wondering why would F vojo even be
00:04:02
handling that money in the first place?
00:04:04
Why wouldn't it just come directly from
00:04:05
Iron Mouse since it's her Twitch? Well,
00:04:07
that's where you get into the really
00:04:08
stinky territory where in a lot of cases
00:04:10
these agencies,
00:04:12
they handle the finances of the talent.
00:04:15
Like they put their grubby paws on it
00:04:17
before the talent does. So, it's not
00:04:19
uncommon in the space for the agreement
00:04:21
between talent and agency to have the
00:04:24
agency directly handle like their Twitch
00:04:27
subs and their Twitch revenue and their
00:04:29
Twitch ads, that kind of thing. And in
00:04:32
the full video, Iron Mouse goes deeper
00:04:33
into this. So, I highly encourage you to
00:04:34
check out the full thing for the entire
00:04:36
scoop, but in her case specifically,
00:04:38
that was actually kind of appealing to
00:04:39
her because then she would be able to
00:04:41
stay even more private because she
00:04:43
really values her anonymity. So, having
00:04:45
V Showjo involved in that process was
00:04:47
actually kind of a big deal to her. And
00:04:50
for previous fundraising through
00:04:52
Tiltify, it wasn't a problem, but when
00:04:54
it came to the subathon money, since it
00:04:56
was going through Twitch subs and
00:04:58
everything, it meant the Showjo was
00:05:00
going to be involved in this process.
00:05:02
And the first time it was fine. It
00:05:04
apparently went off without issue. But
00:05:05
this time when the money was even
00:05:07
higher, well, uh, some kind of screws
00:05:10
must have went loose over there at the V
00:05:11
Showjo headquarters. I guess that [ __ ]
00:05:13
just [ __ ] burst into flames or
00:05:14
something and they just haven't got
00:05:15
around to it. They're still putting out
00:05:16
some fires and they'll get to it any day
00:05:18
now. The Showjo would be responsible for
00:05:21
donating that money on her behalf, an
00:05:23
obligation that they still haven't
00:05:24
fulfilled all this time later. According
00:05:27
to Iron Mouse, it's diabolical.
00:05:30
withholding over half a million dollars
00:05:32
to charity and also withholding money
00:05:34
that Iron Mouse has allegedly owed as
00:05:36
well. And what's even crazier is how
00:05:39
unsurprised I am by it. Now, full
00:05:42
disclosure, I didn't know too much about
00:05:44
V Showjo's inner workings. That was one
00:05:46
of the few agencies I wasn't super privy
00:05:48
to on like the behind the scenes of, but
00:05:50
I'd always heard good things, but I
00:05:52
always had skepticism because of how the
00:05:54
industry functions at the agency level
00:05:56
from the other ones I know. And this
00:05:58
kind of dirty, scummy, greedy business
00:06:01
is just so standard for these agencies
00:06:04
in the space. It is sickening.
00:06:06
Now, V Showjo is going through big
00:06:09
turbulence right now. They're losing
00:06:11
some of their top talent. Like even
00:06:13
before Iron Mouse's video about a month
00:06:15
ago, they made a post about how Giga was
00:06:18
going to be departing V Showjo. And then
00:06:21
just 48 hours later, they announced Zen
00:06:23
would also be leaving Vojo. one of their
00:06:26
original members. So, there's definitely
00:06:29
been some, you know, curious Georgees
00:06:33
out there wondering what's going on at V
00:06:35
Showjo that's got everyone leaving.
00:06:37
What's this exodus from V Showjo all
00:06:39
about? Fun fact, Giga is actually with
00:06:42
us at Cheeky now. Well, we're not like a
00:06:44
VTuber agency. That that that's not what
00:06:46
I'm trying to get across. Our soap, she
00:06:49
really likes our soap, Cheeky Soap. So,
00:06:51
she's she's partnered with us at Cheeky
00:06:53
and she is an absolute sweetheart.
00:06:55
That's what I was trying to get across.
00:06:57
The point is some like really good
00:06:59
people have been leaving V Showjo and
00:07:01
now Iron Mouse have dropped this video
00:07:03
about some very alleged scummy practices
00:07:07
here at the V Showjo corporate level.
00:07:11
And I don't know how V Showjo recovers
00:07:14
from it going forward. They haven't made
00:07:17
a statement yet. It's still a little too
00:07:19
fresh as of me making this video. I'm
00:07:20
very curious what they're going to say
00:07:22
about it. If I had to spitball, I would
00:07:25
imagine that their next play will be
00:07:28
donating that money to the charitable
00:07:30
foundation. I imagine they donate the
00:07:32
515K to the immune deficiency foundation
00:07:35
or whatever the exact number was. I bet
00:07:37
they will do that to desperately try and
00:07:39
save face. I don't think the community
00:07:42
will respond well to it because it's
00:07:43
very clear that they're just doing it
00:07:45
now because of the public pressure
00:07:46
that's being exerted on them. I don't
00:07:48
know how they move forward with a good
00:07:52
reputation. I don't think all of their
00:07:54
talents going to leave overnight. I
00:07:56
imagine a lot of those contract, in
00:07:58
fact, I'm confident a lot of those
00:07:59
contracts lock them down for quite a
00:08:02
while with like some non-disparagement
00:08:04
clauses in there and everything. Like I
00:08:05
bet there is a lot of things at play
00:08:07
where the talent won't be able to leave
00:08:09
even if they really want to. And I can
00:08:11
only hope that the community here
00:08:13
doesn't start attacking the V Showjo
00:08:15
talent for staying because I imagine in
00:08:18
a lot of cases they don't have a choice.
00:08:20
Now, that's kind of the situation in a
00:08:23
nutshell, but I want to dive deeper into
00:08:24
agencies as a whole. I've kind of teased
00:08:26
it a little bit throughout the video,
00:08:27
and I know people like to talk about
00:08:29
Vtubing as a whole, like it's some kind
00:08:31
of niche that's not mainstream. That
00:08:34
couldn't be further from the truth. It
00:08:36
is a multi-billion dollar industry and
00:08:39
it is so lucrative and these agencies
00:08:42
have swooped in and made sure they are
00:08:45
the ones getting the lion's share of
00:08:47
that money and they'll kind of trickle
00:08:49
down drip feed a little milk from their
00:08:51
titties to the talent that's under their
00:08:52
umbrella. And what's even more
00:08:54
disgusting is they fed people [ __ ] and
00:08:56
gave them a taste for it, an acquired
00:08:58
pallet, normalizing their greed. Where
00:09:02
the talent, the ones that are actually
00:09:05
gathering the audience, you know, the
00:09:06
actual VTubers, they don't see most of
00:09:09
the money that they bring in. The agency
00:09:12
does. That includes merch. That includes
00:09:15
their Twitch subs. That includes YouTube
00:09:17
revenue. Pretty much any piece of the
00:09:20
pie that has dollars to ballloons in it.
00:09:23
The agency is the one that's got their
00:09:25
fingers in it. And the VTuber gets
00:09:27
pieces of it. Tidly winks. And I think
00:09:30
it is so ass backwards. It has always
00:09:33
rubbed me the wrong way. So I've always
00:09:35
talked very negatively about VTuber
00:09:37
agencies, much to the chagrin of the
00:09:40
VTuber audience. The audience that
00:09:43
watches VTubers is very loyal to their
00:09:45
favorite creators in the space. So, they
00:09:48
get very upset when the 5 foot6 Florida
00:09:50
man Neanderthal shoots spitballs at the
00:09:54
agency that represents their favorite
00:09:56
VTuber because the community like the
00:09:59
relationship between the agency and the
00:10:02
VTuber is one that's supposed to be
00:10:03
built on like a tight connection like
00:10:05
this partnership almost like a family.
00:10:07
But nothing could be further from the
00:10:08
truth. It's about as much of a family as
00:10:10
like the prison warden is to the
00:10:12
prisoners. I just think it is completely
00:10:14
unacceptable the way a lot of these
00:10:16
agencies treat their talent. I also
00:10:18
think a lot of people have been
00:10:21
completely misled by them in on the
00:10:23
industry as a whole where they act like
00:10:26
there's only one path to success when it
00:10:28
comes to V tubing or at least they did.
00:10:30
Not so much these days. It's starting to
00:10:32
kind of get a little more clear that you
00:10:34
don't have to sign with them. For the
00:10:36
longest time, it was as if there was
00:10:38
only one path to success in the space,
00:10:40
which was signing with an agency, where
00:10:42
they basically give you a career. They
00:10:45
grow you through their network. They
00:10:47
give you all the tools to grow, but they
00:10:50
basically own you. And I know the
00:10:52
argument a lot of people make is, well,
00:10:54
they gave you your career. You do owe
00:10:56
them like 90% of the the money that you
00:11:00
generate. That that makes sense. Without
00:11:02
them, you were nothing. And I just think
00:11:04
that is completely delusional. I think
00:11:06
you've been brainwashed to think that.
00:11:07
It's a little different nowadays where
00:11:10
so many people are doing really well
00:11:12
independent. There are so many
00:11:14
independent YouTubers that are crushing
00:11:16
it and a lot of formally contracted
00:11:19
talent for agencies have left to be
00:11:21
indie and are still doing really well.
00:11:23
So, it's being proven that you don't
00:11:25
need these agencies to succeed as a
00:11:27
VTuber. And I understand like, you know,
00:11:31
they do help speed up the growth of the
00:11:33
career because then they just plug and
00:11:35
play to like their network and just have
00:11:37
eyes on you by default, but from
00:11:39
everything I've seen, it just never
00:11:41
really seems worth the tradeoff. Like
00:11:43
you never get a better deal. So like,
00:11:45
let's say you start with them and then
00:11:47
you explode and become the biggest
00:11:48
VTuber in the world. All the ones I've
00:11:50
seen, the contracts don't scale with
00:11:52
that success. So you still are locked
00:11:54
into a bad deal and now the agency just
00:11:57
makes a killing off of your success and
00:11:59
you kind of stay in the same spot more
00:12:02
or less. Like it just doesn't ever
00:12:04
really feel worth it to do that when you
00:12:07
can still be very successful without
00:12:09
these agencies. And it just sucks to see
00:12:12
that it is still so common that these
00:12:13
agencies are greedy scumbags like in
00:12:16
this case here with V Showjo apparently.
00:12:19
But anyway, just wanted to yap about
00:12:20
this a bit. That's about it. See you.
