- 00:01:34primary schooling is important for a

- 00:01:38sentence from the 100 essays in Vietnam
- 00:01:40the average class size is 20 students
- 00:01:43which makes it difficult for educators

- 00:01:48student education is one of the if not
- 00:01:51the most common topic for task two
- 00:01:54essays so very very useful word useful
- 00:01:57synonym to use in there instead of
- 00:01:59Education training things like that the
- 00:02:01next word is rened this means famous or
- 00:02:05respected synonyms of this word are well
- 00:02:08known famous and celebrated this is an
- 00:02:11adjective and common collocations are
- 00:02:13renowned expert or renowned for although

- 00:02:25famous for something this is very useful
- 00:02:28for use in examples so often in examples

- 00:02:39in the field of biology and let's look
- 00:02:42at how our students use this in their

- 00:02:50local graduates were thrilled by the
- 00:02:52good news of being accepted to work
- 00:02:54under this renowned company so instead
- 00:02:57of saying famous company they've added
- 00:03:00renowned the next word is Prime and no
- 00:03:03it's not a drink made by Logan Paul this
- 00:03:05means the best or most important
- 00:03:08synonyms are best top Main and this word
- 00:03:12is an adjective the most common

- 00:03:17could also Swap this out for Prime
- 00:03:20Advantage Prime disadvantage Prime
- 00:03:23solution Prime reason often in your
- 00:03:26essays you'll be talking about these
- 00:03:28things so if you want to describe
- 00:03:29describe these things as the best or
- 00:03:32most important you can add prime before
- 00:03:35those words an example sentence is this
- 00:03:37is a prime example of excellent customer
- 00:03:40service and in our essays one student
- 00:03:42wrote the prime disadvantage is that
- 00:03:45these companies use the natural
- 00:03:47resources of developing nations
- 00:03:49recklessly which affects the environment
- 00:03:51so a very very good topic sentence there
- 00:03:54talking about advantages and
- 00:03:56disadvantages but the great thing about
- 00:03:58this word like many of the words on this
- 00:04:00list is it can be used interchangeably
- 00:04:03throughout your essays the next word is
- 00:04:05prone which means likely to do or
- 00:04:08experience something synonyms are likely
- 00:04:11inclined and susceptible this is an
- 00:04:14adjective and a common collocation is
- 00:04:16prone to errors but it's not just prone
- 00:04:19to errors the collocation will normally
- 00:04:22be prone to but you can swap out errors
- 00:04:26for other things that people are likely
- 00:04:28to experience so an example sentence
- 00:04:31children are prone to making mistakes
- 00:04:34when they are learning and in our essays
- 00:04:37we have thus people that have a diet
- 00:04:40based on plants and seeds are more prone
- 00:04:43to have a healthier life because they
- 00:04:46are allow their bodies to focus their
- 00:04:48energy in its normal processes and
- 00:04:51before you start writing this student

- 00:05:31the link in the description thanks very
- 00:05:33much and let's get back to the video the
- 00:05:35next word is officials and this means
- 00:05:37people in Authority or people in the
- 00:05:40government normally synonyms of this are
- 00:05:43authorities leaders or administrators
- 00:05:46and this is a nine common call locations
- 00:05:49are government officials or public
- 00:05:52officials these are people working in
- 00:05:55the government in our essay they wrote
- 00:05:57in conclusion I do not support the
- 00:05:58argument of new newspapers publishing
- 00:06:01the information of government officials
- 00:06:03so Tas two essays will often talk about
- 00:06:07the government and government policy so
- 00:06:09it's a very useful word to have the next
- 00:06:11word is output and this means the amount
- 00:06:14produced of something synonyms of this
- 00:06:16word are production or yield and this is
- 00:06:19a noun common collocations are
- 00:06:22industrial output or total output
- 00:06:26sometimes you will be asked to write
- 00:06:27about companies companies d dominate our
- 00:06:30lives similarly to the last one where
- 00:06:32we're talking about governments
- 00:06:34governments and companies dominate our
- 00:06:37lives and have a huge impact on our
- 00:06:39lives therefore you will often be asked
- 00:06:42to write about the those things or write
- 00:06:44about examples of those things in your
- 00:06:47task two essays an example sentence the
- 00:06:50Factor's output has increased this year
- 00:06:53and from our essays the main benefits of
- 00:06:55wearing a uniform are that it brings
- 00:06:57uniformity to the workplace and helps to
- 00:07:00increase the output of companies and you
- 00:07:03could also change that to a company's
- 00:07:06output or a Factor's output the next
- 00:07:08word is intellect which means the
- 00:07:11ability to think and understand and
- 00:07:14notice I didn't say memorize memorize
- 00:07:16isn't really thinking so don't think
- 00:07:19that you can memorize all of these words
- 00:07:22and magically improve your intellect
- 00:07:25more on that at the end of the video
- 00:07:27synonym of this is intelligence and this
- 00:07:30is a nine common collocations are his
- 00:07:33intellect or her intellect or maybe a
- 00:07:35child's intellect an example sentence is
- 00:07:38her sharp intellect makes her a great
- 00:07:41scientist and from her essays
- 00:07:43educational programs on television can
- 00:07:47help a child's intellect often you will
- 00:07:50get questions about education especially
- 00:07:53about children and how to improve their
- 00:07:56education improve their intelligence
- 00:07:58improve their intell the next word is
- 00:08:00incentives which means things that
- 00:08:03encourage you to do something for
- 00:08:05example if you want a free course go
- 00:08:08down into the description of this video
- 00:08:11and add in your email address and we'll
- 00:08:13send you a free course I've just given
- 00:08:15you an incentive synonyms of this word
- 00:08:17are motivation reward and encouragement
- 00:08:21this is a nine uncommon cations are
- 00:08:24provide incentives or offer incentives
- 00:08:28so this will often come up when we're
- 00:08:30talking about education or how companies
- 00:08:33are run often we will provide incentives
- 00:08:36or offer incentives to students workers
- 00:08:40citizens to try and get them to do
- 00:08:42something another way to think about
- 00:08:44this word is the approach of a carrot
- 00:08:47and a stick so if you want a donkey to
- 00:08:50do something you can beat it with a
- 00:08:52stick or you can provide an incentive a
- 00:08:55carrot to make it go forward an example
- 00:08:58sentence are the comp offers Financial
- 00:09:01incentives to its best workers and in
- 00:09:04our essays many younger people find
- 00:09:06voting a waste of time and therefore if
- 00:09:09they are given incentives they are more
- 00:09:12likely to take the time to vote our next
- 00:09:14word is irrespective this means without
- 00:09:17considering something synonyms are
- 00:09:20regardless and despite and this is an
- 00:09:23adverb the most common collocation is
- 00:09:25irrespective of and then after of will
- 00:09:29be the thing that you are ignoring or
- 00:09:31you're disregarding for example
- 00:09:33irrespective of the outcome we must try
- 00:09:36our best and in our essays I believe
- 00:09:38that adult life brings more joy because
- 00:09:41of Life fulfillment irrespective of more
- 00:09:44responsibilities so this is very useful
- 00:09:46when you are balancing two views or
- 00:09:49considering two views often you will get
- 00:09:53questions that ask you to discuss both
- 00:09:55views so this is very useful in your
- 00:09:57conclusion when you're giving your
- 00:09:59opinion so you're saying I believe this
- 00:10:03thing irrespective of the other side the
- 00:10:06next word is fundamental no it's
- 00:10:08actually fundamental and this means
- 00:10:11important synonyms of this word are
- 00:10:14important essential or primary and this
- 00:10:17is an adjective common collocations are
- 00:10:20fundamental principle and fundamental
- 00:10:22change for example learning to read is a
- 00:10:25fundamental skill for children and from
- 00:10:28our essays it is the fundamental right
- 00:10:31of every human being to have their
- 00:10:34privacy so this is a great way in your
- 00:10:36essays to convey to The Examiner that
- 00:10:39this thing that you're talking about is
- 00:10:41very very important you're ranking this
- 00:10:44as the most important thing at the very
- 00:10:47very top so we could talk about the
- 00:10:50fundamental change that needs to happen
- 00:10:52the fundamental reason the fundamental
- 00:10:55right the fundamental whatever you are

- 00:11:41the rest of this free video the next
- 00:11:43word is disclose which means to make
- 00:11:46something known synonyms are reveal show
- 00:11:50and tell this is a verb and the most
- 00:11:52common collocation is to disclose
- 00:11:55information for example the company must
- 00:11:57disclose any risk to its investors and
- 00:12:01from our essays on the other hand
- 00:12:02publishing details of Private Affairs
- 00:12:05discloses the corruption of politicians
- 00:12:08and make them accountable so again
- 00:12:11you'll often be writing about the
- 00:12:13government what is the government full
- 00:12:15of in most countries corrupt politicians
- 00:12:19so it's very easy to talk about
- 00:12:21disclosing them the next word is
- 00:12:23detrimental and it means to cause harm
- 00:12:26or damage synonyms are harmful damaging
- 00:12:29or just bad this is an adjective and the
- 00:12:32most common collocation is detrimental
- 00:12:35effect for example smoking has a
- 00:12:37detrimental effect on health I looked
- 00:12:40through the essays and the students did
- 00:12:43use this a lot but not many of them used
- 00:12:46it the most common way which is a
- 00:12:49detrimental effect on health for example
- 00:12:52or a detrial effect on the environment
- 00:12:55Health the environment or just talking
- 00:12:58about had effects on many different
- 00:13:01things you'll often write about those in
- 00:13:04your essays so think about having that
- 00:13:06in your essay when you're talking about
- 00:13:08negative or bad things the next word is
- 00:13:11adolesence and these are young people
- 00:13:13normally between the ages of 13 and 19
- 00:13:16but it differs from person to person and
- 00:13:18a synonym of this word is teenager this
- 00:13:21is a noun and you have to be very very
- 00:13:23careful with this word most students use
- 00:13:26this because often you will be asked to
- 00:13:28write about children so what they do is
- 00:13:31they take the word children and just use
- 00:13:34that as a synonym by inserting
- 00:13:37adolescence now my two little boys one
- 00:13:40is three and the other is nine they are
- 00:13:43children but they are not adolescence so
- 00:13:46you must only use this word if you are
- 00:13:48writing about teenagers going through
- 00:13:52that stage of life which is puberty for
- 00:13:55example adolescents often experience
- 00:13:57many changes in their lives and there
- 00:13:59aren't that many common collocations so
- 00:14:02I haven't added any and from our essays
- 00:14:05although adolescence are free of
- 00:14:07responsibilities adults enjoy their life
- 00:14:09more because they are free to make their
- 00:14:12own choices so I think this is a really
- 00:14:14really good word to think about because
- 00:14:16you're not just going to memorize these
- 00:14:18words and insert them randomly into your
- 00:14:22essays but what you're also not going to
- 00:14:24do is take words that are similar so
- 00:14:27they're synonyms and just replace those
- 00:14:30words like children adolesence think
- 00:14:33about the specific meaning of each of
- 00:14:35these words and think about can you
- 00:14:38actually use them accurately and
- 00:14:40appropriately in your essays we're not
- 00:14:42telling you just to memorize these words
- 00:14:45and vomit them onto the page the next
- 00:14:47word is accountable and this means
- 00:14:50responsible for your actions synonyms
- 00:14:53are responsible answerable and liable
- 00:14:56this is an adjective and the most common
- 00:14:58collocation are accountable to something
- 00:15:01so to people or to a government or a
- 00:15:05body unaccountable for something if
- 00:15:08you're accountable for something it's
- 00:15:10normally your actions for example
- 00:15:13managers should be held accountable for
- 00:15:16their decisions from our essay this
- 00:15:18essay strongly disagrees with this view
- 00:15:21because politicians build Public Image
- 00:15:23through such news and they could be held
- 00:15:26accountable for any wrongdoings I think
- 00:15:29think the student meant to write should
- 00:15:31be held accountable again you'll often
- 00:15:33be asked to write about people in
- 00:15:35Authority people like government
- 00:15:37officials politicians teachers or just
- 00:15:41everybody in general we are all
- 00:15:43accountable for things that we do and
- 00:15:46we're normally accountable to people
- 00:15:49above us or people around us the next
- 00:15:51word is addressed and this means to fix
- 00:15:54an issue or fix a problem synonyms are
- 00:15:57tackled deal with
- 00:15:59handled fixed and this is a verb the
- 00:16:02most common collocations are address a
- 00:16:05problem or the problem or address an
- 00:16:08issue or the issue for example the
- 00:16:10teacher addressed the issue of bullying
- 00:16:12in the classroom in that example we
- 00:16:15didn't fix the issue it's not the
- 00:16:17teacher completely resolving the issue
- 00:16:20of bullying this means to bring it up to
- 00:16:23address it to talk about it in the
- 00:16:25classroom so just be careful with that
- 00:16:27slight difference in meaning in our
- 00:16:29essay the student said however this can
- 00:16:32easily be addressed by making people
- 00:16:35aware and also by making new laws so
- 00:16:38they've used it to say addressed fixed
- 00:16:41so you might use this for example in
- 00:16:43problem solution essays addressing
- 00:16:47problems in your Solutions part of your
- 00:16:49essay but it can also be used very
- 00:16:52flexibly and interchangeably with many
- 00:16:55different ways of writing essays the
- 00:16:57next word is affluence which means
- 00:16:59having a lot of money synonyms are
- 00:17:01wealthy Rich prosperous and this is an
- 00:17:04adjective the most common collocations
- 00:17:06are an affluent society or an affluent
- 00:17:08country but you can also apply this to
- 00:17:11people in our essays our student wrote
- 00:17:13In addition not only does a country
- 00:17:15become more powerful economically but
- 00:17:17also many residents have an opportunity
- 00:17:20to become affluent so it is a common
- 00:17:22essay topic to write about money and
- 00:17:25people becoming more successful you'll
- 00:17:27have a lot of people furiously typing
- 00:17:29success and money are not the same thing
- 00:17:32it's not politics class or just trying
- 00:17:34to help you get a higher score so you
- 00:17:36can become more affluent and more
- 00:17:39successful in your new country that's
- 00:17:40why you're doing the I test right the
- 00:17:42next word is allocate which means to
- 00:17:44distribute resources or duties common
- 00:17:47synonyms are assign distribute and a lot
- 00:17:51this is a verb and the most common
- 00:17:53cocation is to allocate resources for
- 00:17:56example the manager will allocate
- 00:17:58resources for the new project and in our
- 00:18:01essays investment banks in Sweden showed
- 00:18:03a significant increase after they
- 00:18:06decided to allocate at least 40% of
- 00:18:09their leading positions to women the
- 00:18:11next one is a very useful word which is
- 00:18:14awareness which means knowledge about
- 00:18:17something synonyms are knowledge or
- 00:18:20understanding this is a n and common
- 00:18:22call locations are to raise awareness
- 00:18:24but for I essays we often talk about
- 00:18:27awareness campaign aigns which are
- 00:18:29campaigns by the government to make
- 00:18:32people aware of a certain topic for
- 00:18:34example we need to raise awareness about
- 00:18:36the dangers of smoking and in our essays
- 00:18:40however encouraging youth participation
- 00:18:42in politics and awareness campaigns can
- 00:18:45be possible solutions to tackle these
- 00:18:47problems so these are very very useful
- 00:18:49when talking about solutions to problems
- 00:18:52often the best solution will be some
- 00:18:55kind of awareness campaign think about
- 00:18:58campaigns with within your own country
- 00:19:00for smoking or drunk driving or wear
- 00:19:03seat bels the next word is bullying
- 00:19:05which means repeated aggressive behavior
- 00:19:08intended to hurt someone synonyms are
- 00:19:11harassment intimidation and abuse this
- 00:19:13is a nine but it can also be used as a
- 00:19:16verb to bully someone common
- 00:19:18collocations are school bullying and
- 00:19:20very frequently these days cyber
- 00:19:23bullying which means to bully someone
- 00:19:26online normally through social media for
- 00:19:28example school bullying can seriously
- 00:19:30affect a child's self-esteem and from
- 00:19:32our essays the main reason behind this
- 00:19:34is the increase of cyber bullying and
- 00:19:37hate crimes the next word is burden
- 00:19:39which means a heavy load or a heavy
- 00:19:41responsibility synonyms are load or
- 00:19:44responsibility and this is a nine the
- 00:19:46most common collocations are heavy
- 00:19:48burden and financial burden for example
- 00:19:51the financial burden of college can be
- 00:19:53overwhelming for some students and from
- 00:19:56our essays this is because they cannot
- 00:19:57cope with the financial burden of buying
- 00:19:59new clothes from stores such as Prada or
- 00:20:02Gucci money makes the world go around
- 00:20:05and a lot of task two essays will
- 00:20:07involve you talking about money
- 00:20:10Financial burdens but doesn't have to be
- 00:20:13about money you could also talk about
- 00:20:15the burden of being a father or a mother
- 00:20:18for example or the burden of being a
- 00:20:21husband or wife but burden is often
- 00:20:24referred to negatively so don't tell my
- 00:20:27wife that I said that the next word is
- 00:20:29capabilities which means the ability to
- 00:20:32do something synonyms are abilities
- 00:20:34skills or talents this is a n and common
- 00:20:38collocations are their capabilities or
- 00:20:41its capabilities so you're talking about
- 00:20:43the ability of a person to do something
- 00:20:46or a thing to do something for example
- 00:20:48the company's technological capabilities
- 00:20:51are impressive and from our essays in
- 00:20:54conclusion many athletes nowadays use
- 00:20:56illegal substances to win the
- 00:20:58competition and exceed their physical
- 00:21:01capabilities so common topics are
- 00:21:04technology and health you could easily
- 00:21:07use capabilities to talk about company's
- 00:21:11abilities or software's abilities or AI
- 00:21:15abilities but you could also use the
- 00:21:16word capabilities to talk about
- 00:21:18someone's physical health and their
- 00:21:21capabilities or you could use it for
- 00:21:24education to talk about the capabilities
- 00:21:26of students or maybe even teachers
- 00:21:29we have abilities to next is a very
- 00:21:30common word commonly which means
- 00:21:33frequently or usually synonyms are often
- 00:21:36usually and regularly this is an adverb
- 00:21:39common collocations are commonly used
- 00:21:43for example this word is commonly used
- 00:21:45in academic writing and from our essays
- 00:21:48for instance it can be commonly seen in
- 00:21:51many schools the teachers introduce TVs
- 00:21:53in their lectures to help students
- 00:21:56understand complicated and difficult
- 00:21:58subjects so if you're talking about time
- 00:22:00and how often something happens use that
- 00:22:03word next is consumption the act of
- 00:22:06using something synonyms are use and
- 00:22:10usage and this is a noun common
- 00:22:12collocations are energy consumption
- 00:22:14human consumption when we eat things or
- 00:22:18when we use things and consumption of
- 00:22:21for example reducing energy consumption
- 00:22:24can help protect the environment the
- 00:22:26environment and global warming and new
- 00:22:30technologies for producing energy you
- 00:22:32will often use this word in these
- 00:22:35collocations and from our essays one
- 00:22:37student wrote this is because animals
- 00:22:39are reproduced kept in small and
- 00:22:41uncomfortable places and then killed and
- 00:22:43sold to supermarkets and butchers for
- 00:22:46human consumption so if anyone or
- 00:22:49anything is using something within your
- 00:22:53essays you could look through it and
- 00:22:55think how could I use the word
- 00:22:56consumption the next word is competence
- 00:22:59and this is the ability to do something
- 00:23:02well not the ability just to do
- 00:23:04something but to do something well
- 00:23:06synonyms are ability skill and
- 00:23:08proficiency this is a nine and common
- 00:23:11collocations are professional competence
- 00:23:14and competence in something for example
- 00:23:17her professional competence was evident
- 00:23:19in her excellent work and one student
- 00:23:22wrote by allocating a certain percent of
- 00:23:25high level positions to women companies
- 00:23:28would reach a higher competence level so
- 00:23:31often you'll be writing about maybe
- 00:23:34disadvantaged groups of people for
- 00:23:36example in this one women and you're
- 00:23:38writing about their confidence in things
- 00:23:41next is a word many of you already know
- 00:23:43I'm sure which is corruption this means
- 00:23:46dishonest or illegal Behavior by those
- 00:23:49in power so think about a politician
- 00:23:52maybe from your local area or your
- 00:23:54country that dishonestly uses money
- 00:23:57synonyms of this word are dishonesty
- 00:23:59fraud and bribery this is a known and
- 00:24:03the most common collocation is political
- 00:24:06corruption for example the investigation
- 00:24:08revealed widespread political corruption
- 00:24:11and our student wrote for example when
- 00:24:14details of the lavish spending of the
- 00:24:17mayor of London while on a vacation were
- 00:24:20revealed in the sun it promoted
- 00:24:22questions from many sections of the
- 00:24:24society eventually exposing his
- 00:24:27corruption with the public money yes I
- 00:24:29know that student made a few small
- 00:24:32grammatical errors don't go crazy it's
- 00:24:35not the student's fault maybe that
- 00:24:37student had a little bit of corruption
- 00:24:39in their school when they were growing
- 00:24:41up and they didn't get the attention
- 00:24:43that you got from your very honest
- 00:24:46teachers and politicians the next one is
- 00:24:48a two for one these are both highlevel
- 00:24:51words that mean the same thing downsides
- 00:24:54and drawbacks these both mean the
- 00:24:57negative aspects of something synonyms
- 00:24:59are disadvantages negatives these are
- 00:25:02both nouns and it won't be a surprise
- 00:25:05that students use these as synonyms when
- 00:25:08they are talking about advantages
- 00:25:10disadvantages essays the most common
- 00:25:12cocation for downsides are potential
- 00:25:15downsides so you're talking about
- 00:25:17something that might be a downside and
- 00:25:20the most common collocation for
- 00:25:22drawbacks are major drawbacks for
- 00:25:25example the potential downsides of the
- 00:25:27new policy include increased costs and
- 00:25:30from our essays one of the major
- 00:25:32drawbacks of this method is its high
- 00:25:34cost another little trick there if you
- 00:25:36get an advantages or disadvantages essay
- 00:25:39very often an easy disadvantage is to
- 00:25:42talk about high cost not always but does
- 00:25:45help to have that in your toolkit and
- 00:25:47the next word is similar but different
- 00:25:50and that is deficiency now this isn't
- 00:25:52really a disadvantage this is a lack of
- 00:25:55something so there is a little bit of it
- 00:25:57already but there is a lack of it
- 00:26:00synonyms are a lack a shortage or an
- 00:26:03insufficiency this is a noun and a
- 00:26:06common collocation is a vitamin
- 00:26:09deficiency or deficiency in so you might
- 00:26:12not have a vitamin deficiency but you
- 00:26:14might have a deficiency in something
- 00:26:16else so you have a deficiency in
- 00:26:18whatever you have a deficiency of for
- 00:26:20example a vitamin deficiency can cause
- 00:26:23health problems and from our essays the
- 00:26:25main disadvantage of the vegetarian diet
- 00:26:28is that without meat people may have a
- 00:26:31protein deficiency obviously this can be
- 00:26:34used for many different topics but
- 00:26:37health is one of the main ones the next
- 00:26:40one is Embrace which means to accept
- 00:26:43something with enthusiasm synonyms are
- 00:26:46accept welcome and adopt this is a verb
- 00:26:49and the most common collocation for our
- 00:26:52purposes is to embrace change life is
- 00:26:55basically the story of change when
- 00:26:58you're writing you're going to be
- 00:26:59writing about life so it's very easy to
- 00:27:02use this collocation for example we need
- 00:27:05to embrace change to stay competitive
- 00:27:09and from our essays there are two main
- 00:27:11benefits of traveling such as people can
- 00:27:12gain knowledge and embrace other
- 00:27:15cultures so not just embracing change
- 00:27:19but embracing new things which is
- 00:27:21another way of saying change the next
- 00:27:22one will definitely enhance your writing
- 00:27:25score which is enhance this means to
- 00:27:29improve something synonyms are improve
- 00:27:32boost increase this is a verb and common
- 00:27:35cations are to enhance performance but
- 00:27:39you can substitute a performance for
- 00:27:41something else or enhanced with a d on
- 00:27:44the End by enhanced by for example the
- 00:27:48new software will enhance our
- 00:27:50performance and one of our students
- 00:27:52wrote for instance many psychologists
- 00:27:54suggest to students who are struggling
- 00:27:56with social anxiety to take drama
- 00:27:58lessons as it helps to enhance
- 00:28:01confidence so enhance performance
- 00:28:03enhance confidence next is a very very
- 00:28:05popular one emissions which means gases
- 00:28:09or substances sent out into the air most
- 00:28:12commonly for our purposes carbon dioxide
- 00:28:15emissions synonym of this is output and
- 00:28:18this is a noun common collocations are
- 00:28:21carbon emissions or carbon dioxide
- 00:28:23emissions and reduce emissions for
- 00:28:26example reducing carbon emiss missions
- 00:28:28is vital to combat climate change and
- 00:28:31from our essays the main advantage of
- 00:28:33having a vegetarian diet is that carbon
- 00:28:36emissions can be reduced for bonus
- 00:28:38points take that sentence how would you
- 00:28:41improve the vocabulary of that sentence
- 00:28:44using the words we've already talked
- 00:28:46about in this video put it in the
- 00:28:48comments the next one is establishments
- 00:28:51and this is a business or an
- 00:28:53organization synonyms are institutions
- 00:28:56organizations and firms terms this is a
- 00:28:58n and the most common cocation
- 00:29:01especially for our purposes writing task
- 00:29:03two essays educational establishments so
- 00:29:06it should come as no surprise that when
- 00:29:08you are asked about education you are
- 00:29:12going to be writing about schools you're
- 00:29:13going to be writing about universities
- 00:29:15so you can use educational
- 00:29:18establishments instead of school as a
- 00:29:20synonym for example universities are
- 00:29:23important educational establishments I
- 00:29:26looked at our students essays and
- 00:29:28they're using them either incorrectly or
- 00:29:30using it in a completely different
- 00:29:32context and I don't want to confuse
- 00:29:33anyone so I'm not going to show you
- 00:29:35those the next word is expenditure which
- 00:29:37means money spent on something synonyms
- 00:29:40are spending costs or outlay this is a
- 00:29:44noun and is often Associated for TAS two
- 00:29:47writing with government expenditure or
- 00:29:51public expenditure public expenditure is
- 00:29:54just another way of saying government
- 00:29:56expenditure because govern governments
- 00:29:58use our public money for example
- 00:30:01government expenditure on Health Care is
- 00:30:04increasing but you don't have to just
- 00:30:06use it for government or public
- 00:30:08expenditure you could talk about company
- 00:30:10expenditure but I wouldn't use it for
- 00:30:13individuals spending money on things
- 00:30:16it's a little bit inappropriate in that
- 00:30:18context so what our student did was they
- 00:30:21said however the increase in expenditure
- 00:30:23of organizations and monotony among
- 00:30:25employees are the main drawbacks of
- 00:30:28compulsory uniforms so they're talking
- 00:30:30about corporations companies spending
- 00:30:33money on uniforms how exciting now
- 00:30:34you'll certainly exceed your required
- 00:30:36band score with this next one exceed
- 00:30:39this means to go beyond a limit or a
- 00:30:41standard or a number synonyms are
- 00:30:44surpass go beyond or I do it is a verb
- 00:30:47and the common collocations are exceed
- 00:30:50expectations or exceed a number for
- 00:30:53example the team managed to exceed
- 00:30:55expectations this quarter and essays in
- 00:30:58conclusion many athletes nowadays use
- 00:31:01illegal substances to win the
- 00:31:03competition and exceed their physical
- 00:31:06capabilities the next one I'll just go
- 00:31:08quickly through it because it's very
- 00:31:10similar to another word that we used
- 00:31:12harassment which is a synonym of a word
- 00:31:14we already mentioned which is bullying
- 00:31:17this means aggressive pressure or
- 00:31:19intimidation synonyms are bullying
- 00:31:22intimidation or abuse it is a NN and
- 00:31:25common collocations are workplace
- 00:31:27harassment and sexual harassment so
- 00:31:30bullying is normally associated with
- 00:31:33school whereas harassment is normally
- 00:31:36more associated with the workplace and
- 00:31:39Society in general although bullying can
- 00:31:41occur anywhere for example the company
- 00:31:43has policies to prevent workplace
- 00:31:46harassment and in our essays for
- 00:31:48instance in 2016 many supporters of
- 00:31:50Donald Trump lost their trust in him
- 00:31:52after newspapers uncovered the story of
- 00:31:55the sexual harassment allegations
- 00:31:57against him just be very careful with
- 00:31:59this word because often I hear I
- 00:32:03students talking about harassment in
- 00:32:05terms of things that are difficult um so
- 00:32:09I have act real emails from students
- 00:32:12talking about the IELTS test harassing
- 00:32:15them or us harassing them because we've
- 00:32:18given them low scores because they're
- 00:32:20not very good at writing that's not
- 00:32:22harassment that's just your life is
- 00:32:24difficult because you're not very good
- 00:32:26at something normally because you're
- 00:32:27lazy and the next one is more a linking
- 00:32:30word which doesn't come under your
- 00:32:32vocabulary score it comes under your
- 00:32:35cohesion and coherence score but I'll
- 00:32:37mention it because it is a useful word
- 00:32:40to know and it could help you improve
- 00:32:43your coherence and cohesion score and
- 00:32:45that word is hence and it basically
- 00:32:47means for this reason or therefore
- 00:32:50synonyms are therefore thus and so we
- 00:32:54would use so more in informal speaking
- 00:32:57than and academic writing this is an
- 00:32:59adverb and a common collocation is hence
- 00:33:02the need or hence the need for for
- 00:33:05example the project is behind schedule
- 00:33:07hence the need for extra workers and you
- 00:33:10can also use it at the beginning of a
- 00:33:12sentence instead of therefore just like
- 00:33:14our student did hence the more sports
- 00:33:16facilities will be available to the
- 00:33:18public the more people could do Sports
- 00:33:20and thus stay healthy so they've used
- 00:33:23two different synonyms of therefore
- 00:33:25hence and thus within the same sentence
- 00:33:27but remember the most important thing
- 00:33:30for linking words is not that you show a
- 00:33:33wide variety of them it's that they are
- 00:33:36accurate and appropriate so if you're
- 00:33:38unsure about linking words don't
- 00:33:41memorize 50 of them and just shove them
- 00:33:43into your essay and hope for the best
- 00:33:45it's better to repeat a simple word that
- 00:33:48is correct than change it to something
- 00:33:50that is wrong and the next word is
- 00:33:52informative and this means to provide
- 00:33:55useful information synonyms are are
- 00:33:58educational enlightening and instructive
- 00:34:02this is an adjective and is normally
- 00:34:04used within educational contexts to
- 00:34:07describe programs or courses or TV shows
- 00:34:11or documentaries things like that so an
- 00:34:14example sentence would be the lecture
- 00:34:16was very informative and helped me
- 00:34:19understand the topic better from our
- 00:34:21essays kids who watch informative and
- 00:34:23educational shows learn to solve
- 00:34:25problems and develop strong mental math
- 00:34:29skills the next word is infrastructure
- 00:34:31this means the basic systems and
- 00:34:33structures needed for a society or
- 00:34:36organization a synonym of this word is a
- 00:34:39system and this is a noun common
- 00:34:42collocations are transport
- 00:34:44infrastructure and infrastructure
- 00:34:46projects an example sentence is good
- 00:34:48transport infrastructure is essential
- 00:34:51for economic growth and from our essays
- 00:34:53in conclusion the advantages of the
- 00:34:55prioritizing economic growth above of
- 00:34:57all other concerns are improved quality
- 00:35:00of life of people and good
- 00:35:02infrastructure the next word is insights
- 00:35:05this means the understanding or
- 00:35:07knowledge about something synonyms are
- 00:35:10understandings perceptions and intuition
- 00:35:12this is a n and common collocations are
- 00:35:15valuable insights and provide insights
- 00:35:18into for example the survey provided
- 00:35:21valuable insights into customer
- 00:35:24preferences and from our essays lessons
- 00:35:27at school can provide children with
- 00:35:28valuable insights into being good
- 00:35:31members of society the next word is
- 00:35:34insufficient which means not enough
- 00:35:37often related to money or resources
- 00:35:39synonyms are inadequate lacking and
- 00:35:42deficient this is an adjective and the
- 00:35:44most common collocation is insufficient
- 00:35:47funds or insufficient resources for
- 00:35:50example the project was cancelled due to
- 00:35:53insufficient funds and from our essays
- 00:35:55the main downsides are higher cost of
- 00:35:58living for most and insufficient support
- 00:36:01for the poorest the next word is innate
- 00:36:04and this means existing from birth or is
- 00:36:08natural for example the ability to
- 00:36:10breathe is innate synonyms are inborn
- 00:36:14inherent and natural this is an
- 00:36:16adjective and the most common
- 00:36:18collocation is innate ability for
- 00:36:21example she has an innate ability to
- 00:36:23learn languages quickly and from her
- 00:36:25essays a person can only reach the
- 00:36:27highest level in the profession if they
- 00:36:30combine their innate ability with hard
- 00:36:32work often you will get questions that
- 00:36:34will ask things like does hard work lead
- 00:36:38to success or is it only people who are
- 00:36:42born with certain talents that are
- 00:36:44successful so you can use this word
- 00:36:46innate the next word is inappropriate no
- 00:36:49it is actually inappropriate and this
- 00:36:52means not suitable or proper it's just a
- 00:36:55very very formal way of saying something
- 00:36:57is bad or not right synonyms are
- 00:37:00unsuitable improper and unfit this is an
- 00:37:04adjective and the most common
- 00:37:05collocation is inappropriate behavior
- 00:37:09this is often used to describe someone
- 00:37:12doing something their behavior is bad
- 00:37:15inappropriate for example his
- 00:37:17inappropriate behavior at the meeting
- 00:37:19was not acceptable and from our essays
- 00:37:22on the other hand employees who always
- 00:37:24wear uniforms might end up wearing
- 00:37:27inappropri rate clothes for their work
- 00:37:29the next high Lev word is Merit and this
- 00:37:32means the quality of being good or
- 00:37:34worthy synonyms include worth value and
- 00:37:38Excellence this is a nine and common
- 00:37:40collocations are academic Merit or on
- 00:37:43Merit a good way to remember this word
- 00:37:46is not what the word means it's what it
- 00:37:48doesn't mean the opposite of that word
- 00:37:51I'm sure you know someone who got a job
- 00:37:54or a position in a company because they
- 00:37:56are the idiot nephew or the daughter of
- 00:38:00the owner of the company that is not
- 00:38:02based on Merit that is based on who they
- 00:38:06are an example sentence is scholarships
- 00:38:08are often given based on academic Merit
- 00:38:12so you deserve to get a scholarship
- 00:38:14because of how smart you are and in our
- 00:38:17essays this essay completely disagrees
- 00:38:20with the statement because selecting
- 00:38:21employees should be based on Merit their
- 00:38:25worth their value how good they are at
- 00:38:28the job so it can be used in the
- 00:38:30academic context but it can also be used
- 00:38:33in a more formal professional context as
- 00:38:37well the next word is one of my favorite
- 00:38:39words in the whole world it is mediocre
- 00:38:41and this means not very good pretty
- 00:38:45average synonyms include average
- 00:38:48ordinary and so so if you want to talk
- 00:38:51about it informally this is an adjective
- 00:38:53and there aren't many common
- 00:38:55collocations for this but a good way to
- 00:38:57remember it is it's one of the most
- 00:38:59horrible things that you could ever say
- 00:39:01to anyone I'm a very popular person on
- 00:39:04YouTube so I get horrible things said to
- 00:39:07me every day in the comments if somebody
- 00:39:09says that I'm terrible or useless or the
- 00:39:13worst teacher that has ever existed on
- 00:39:15the internet I don't really worry if
- 00:39:17somebody says that but if somebody calls
- 00:39:19me
- 00:39:20mediocre like that's horrible to say
- 00:39:23that to someone you're the same as
- 00:39:25everyone else an example sentence is his
- 00:39:27performance was mediocre not meeting
- 00:39:30expectations and from our essays for
- 00:39:32example the world is filled with many
- 00:39:34Star athletes who started off as
- 00:39:37mediocre in the beginning but they
- 00:39:39Challenge and push themselves to their
- 00:39:41limit which ultimately helped them to
- 00:39:43attain the greatest version of
- 00:39:46themselves so if you want to really
- 00:39:47really annoy me and upset me just write
- 00:39:50this video as mediocre in the comments
- 00:39:52the next one is the opposite of mediocre
- 00:39:55it is notable and this means worthy of
- 00:39:58attention or important synonyms are
- 00:40:01remarkable significant or noteworthy
- 00:40:04this is an adjective and common
- 00:40:06collocations are a notable achievement
- 00:40:09if you're talking about some achievement
- 00:40:11that somebody has made or some kind of
- 00:40:13scientific discovery or technological
- 00:40:15advancement a notable exception so if
- 00:40:18you're talking about I believe this this
- 00:40:20this this and then you want to talk
- 00:40:22about a counterargument or another side
- 00:40:26to the point that you're making you
- 00:40:28could say a notable exception is and a
- 00:40:30notable example so you're going to be
- 00:40:32giving at least two examples in your
- 00:40:34essays so you could write a notable
- 00:40:37example here's an example sentence her
- 00:40:39notable achievements in science earned
- 00:40:41her several Awards and in our essay in
- 00:40:44conclusion although well-known
- 00:40:46individuals earn big amounts of money
- 00:40:48from sponsors notable people's lives
- 00:40:50will be in danger because evil-minded
- 00:40:52people will harm them next one is a very
- 00:40:55useful word numerous which means many in
- 00:40:57number synonyms include many several
- 00:41:00various and this is an adjective common
- 00:41:03collocations are numerous times for
- 00:41:06example she has traveled to Paris
- 00:41:08numerous times and in our essay the
- 00:41:11majority of the chief positions in
- 00:41:13business organizations are occupied by
- 00:41:15males despite the fact that more than
- 00:41:17half of the workforce in numerous
- 00:41:19developed Nations is made up of women so
- 00:41:22when you are using this you might use it
- 00:41:24in your explanations or your examples
- 00:41:28when you're explaining something you can
- 00:41:29say that this has happened numerous
- 00:41:31times or there are numerous examples of
- 00:41:34this happening you don't have to do that
- 00:41:35for every essay just have it in your
- 00:41:37toolkit the next word is peers peers are
- 00:41:40people of the same age so for example my
- 00:41:43son's peers are 9-year-olds or people
- 00:41:47that normally do the same job and are at
- 00:41:49the same level they have the same status
- 00:41:52synonyms include equals colleagues and
- 00:41:55contemporaries this is a nine and common
- 00:41:57collocations are peer pressure and their
- 00:42:01peers so we will often use this word
- 00:42:03when we are comparing people within the
- 00:42:06same group together for example
- 00:42:08adolescents often face peer pressure
- 00:42:10from their peers to conform to group
- 00:42:12norms and in her essay for instance
- 00:42:15several Studies have shown that kids are
- 00:42:16more likely to outperform their peers on
- 00:42:19tests when they watch educational shows
- 00:42:22very very useful for comparing for
- 00:42:25explaining for giving examples the next
- 00:42:28word is extremely useful because it can
- 00:42:30be used to describe pretty much anything
- 00:42:32and can be used as a synonym for so many
- 00:42:35different things and it is one of the
- 00:42:38most mispronounced words in the English
- 00:42:40language let's see how I do with it
- 00:42:42phenomenon this means something that
- 00:42:45happens or exists especially something
- 00:42:48unusual or interesting synonyms include
- 00:42:51event occurrence and happening this is a
- 00:42:54nine and common collocations are n
- 00:42:57natural phenomenon you could use natural
- 00:42:59phenomenon to describe global warming
- 00:43:02for example or a social phenomenon so
- 00:43:05something that people have started to do
- 00:43:08or you go to a new country and you're
- 00:43:11like oh that's an interesting social
- 00:43:13phenomenon a thing that is happening
- 00:43:15that I've never noticed before for
- 00:43:16example I recently traveled to a country
- 00:43:19where every restaurant you go to uh
- 00:43:22parents would give their children iPads
- 00:43:25and phones and allow them to to play
- 00:43:28music and games at full blast it's like
- 00:43:31that's an interesting phenomenon it also
- 00:43:33allows you to be diplomatic and polite
- 00:43:35so an example sentence the northern
- 00:43:37lights are a natural phenomenon that
- 00:43:39attracts many visitors it is a thing in
- 00:43:42the sky that is natural a natural
- 00:43:45phenomenon in our essays this phenomenon
- 00:43:48may result in younger people being
- 00:43:51apathetic towards politics and election
- 00:43:54results that do not reflect public
- 00:43:56opinion so you could use this in your
- 00:43:58introduction you could use this in topic
- 00:44:01sentences you could use this in
- 00:44:02explanations and you could use this in
- 00:44:04your conclusion if you are really stuck
- 00:44:06for a synonym maybe you have repeated
- 00:44:08the word a few times and you're like how
- 00:44:10do I change this you could say this
- 00:44:13phenomenon but make sure it is a
- 00:44:15phenomenon the next word is proportion
- 00:44:17which means a part of a whole or a
- 00:44:20percentage so if you're talking about a
- 00:44:21percentage of something you could use
- 00:44:23proportion synonyms are part portion or
- 00:44:26fraction and this is a Nar and common
- 00:44:28qualifcations are large proportion or
- 00:44:31small proportion for example a large
- 00:44:33proportion of the population supports
- 00:44:36the new law and from our essays some
- 00:44:38believe that a certain proportion of
- 00:44:40these vacancies should be allocated to
- 00:44:43females this is also very useful for
- 00:44:45task one academic if you're doing the
- 00:44:47academic module the next word is revenue
- 00:44:50and this means income from business or
- 00:44:52government activities in the form of tax
- 00:44:54that's how governments make money
- 00:44:57synonyms are Income earnings and profits
- 00:45:00although be very careful because revenue
- 00:45:02and profits are two very very different
- 00:45:04things if youve ever run a business you
- 00:45:06should know that word type is a nine and
- 00:45:09common collocations are annual revenue
- 00:45:11revenue from so revenue from taxes
- 00:45:14revenue from I VIP courses if we're
- 00:45:17lucky and tax revenue example sentence
- 00:45:20the company's annual revenue has grown
- 00:45:23steadily and from our essay this is
- 00:45:25because with economic progress States
- 00:45:27generate lots of Revenue which can be
- 00:45:29used to provide high quality services
- 00:45:31such as free education so often you will
- 00:45:34get questions asking about government
- 00:45:37services education is often a government
- 00:45:39service depending on which country you
- 00:45:41live in health is sometimes a government
- 00:45:43service not if you live in America but a
- 00:45:46lot of questions can be boiled down to
- 00:45:49should the government provide this
- 00:45:51service or is the government providing a
- 00:45:54good enough service and you can talk
- 00:45:56about Revenue coming in from different
- 00:45:59things and high revenue is being spent
- 00:46:01the next word is resent and this means
- 00:46:03to feel angry or bitter about something

- 00:46:22essay parents should encourage their
- 00:46:23children to stay at home more rather
- 00:46:25than force them so that their children
- 00:46:27will not resent them so it's a very easy
- 00:46:29way to talk about things that people
- 00:46:32dislike for example I really resent the
- 00:46:35fact that I picked so many of these
- 00:46:38words and I didn't think it was going to
- 00:46:40take this long to make this video the
- 00:46:42next word is sector which means parts or
- 00:46:45divisions of a larger group or area
- 00:46:48synonyms are divisions segments or areas

- 00:46:56means work in the government the private
- 00:46:58sector those people who actually do all
- 00:47:01the work means that you work not for the
- 00:47:03government for real businesses and then
- 00:47:05we have the voluntary sector people who
- 00:47:08volunteer their time they don't work for
- 00:47:10the government they don't work for real
- 00:47:12businesses they work for Charities for

- 00:47:17people in healthc care and education and
- 00:47:19from her essays others think that they
- 00:47:21have to only study something useful for
- 00:47:24their future for example those related
- 00:47:26to science and Technology sectors the
- 00:47:29next word is Workforce and this means
- 00:47:31all the people who work in a company or
- 00:47:34country synonyms are staff employees and
- 00:47:37labor force this is a n and a common
- 00:47:40cocation is a skilled Workforce for
- 00:47:43example a skilled Workforce is key to a
- 00:47:45company success and from our essay one
- 00:47:48benefit of multinational companies is

- 00:48:19example the school has programs for
- 00:48:20gifted children in the Arts and Sciences
- 00:48:24and from our essay children who are
- 00:48:25gifted with a particular born Talent
- 00:48:27often achieve their goal early in their
- 00:48:30lives you could also use one of the
- 00:48:32other highlevel words we mentioned in
- 00:48:34this video innate to talk about people
- 00:48:36who are born with a particular gift the
- 00:48:39next word is nutritional which means
- 00:48:41relating to the nutrients in food

- 00:49:08two topics is health and it is very easy
- 00:49:11to connect Health with our nutrition our
- 00:49:15eating habits so very important word to
- 00:49:17know the next word is Thrive which means
- 00:49:20to grow or develop well synonyms include
- 00:49:23flourish prosper and succeed this is is
- 00:49:26a verb and a common collocation for this
- 00:49:29word is to thrive in for example
- 00:49:32children thrive in a loving and
- 00:49:34supporting environment and from our
- 00:49:36essays for this reason I believe that
- 00:49:38some inborn qualities play a crucial
- 00:49:40part for people to thrive in some areas
- 00:49:44like music or Sports so if you think
- 00:49:47about the area or the context that that
- 00:49:50person or that thing is thriving in is
- 00:49:53succeeding in is prospering in then you
- 00:49:55can use thriv in that area and it's not
- 00:49:58just people companies can Thrive animals
- 00:50:01can Thrive lots of different things can
- 00:50:03Thrive the next word you might not think
- 00:50:06is a highle word and it is unsafe you
- 00:50:09might think that this is a low-level
- 00:50:11word because you know it you know how to
- 00:50:13use it and it is quite a short common
- 00:50:16word but if you go to Cambridge
- 00:50:18dictionary. org online pop in on safe
- 00:50:21you'll see that this is a C1 word that's
- 00:50:23a very very useful point to make because
- 00:50:26many of you think that highlevel words
- 00:50:29are these big unknowable unusable words
- 00:50:32that you've never heard before that's
- 00:50:34often not the case often you know way
- 00:50:37more C1 and C2 words than you realize

- 00:50:47very common collocation are unsafe

- 00:50:52evacuated due to unsafe conditions and
- 00:50:55from our essay the second reason behind
- 00:50:58the negativity of being a star is that
- 00:51:00it creates an unsafe environment that
- 00:51:02may endanger the star's mental health so
- 00:51:05unsafe conditions unsafe environment
- 00:51:07when you're talking about dangerous
- 00:51:09things often that will come up in task
- 00:51:11two and a very very appropriate word for
- 00:51:14our last word unwind cuz I'm definitely
- 00:51:18going to have to unwind after reading
- 00:51:20out so many of these words and this
- 00:51:23means to relax after work or some kind
- 00:51:27of tension synonyms include relax rest
- 00:51:30or d-stress this is a verb un commmon
- 00:51:33collocations are unwind after for
- 00:51:37example it is important to unwind after
- 00:51:40a long day at work like reading lots and
- 00:51:43lots and lots and lots of words and
- 00:51:45definitions from our essays this essay
- 00:51:47believes that television can do both as
- 00:51:50it helps people to unwind but it also
- 00:51:53presents complicated information in an
- 00:51:55easily
- 00:51:57digestible
- 00:51:58form so now that you know what those
- 00:52:01words are I want you now to think about
- 00:52:03why are you watching this video you're
- 00:52:05not watching this video to boost your
- 00:52:08vocabulary you're watching this video to
- 00:52:10get the a score that you need and let me
- 00:52:12tell you the worst thing that you could
- 00:52:14do right now if you want to improve your
- 00:52:17IELTS writing score the worst thing you
- 00:52:20can do is take those words and try and
- 00:52:23insert as many of those words as
- 00:52:25possible into into your essay and I want
- 00:52:27to prove that to you using data and a
- 00:52:30really cool software tool that you can
- 00:52:31use to analyze your own essays and I'm
- 00:52:35going to take the essays from here ielt
- 00:52:3718 and I'm going to show you just how
- 00:52:40many band 789 c1c2 words they actually
- 00:52:45use in their essays that have been
- 00:52:48produced by Cambridge examiners so if we
- 00:52:50have a look here what I've done is I've
- 00:52:53used this amazing Tool uh called text
- 00:52:56and insector text inspector does a lot
- 00:52:58of different things but one of the
- 00:53:00things that it does is you can add in a
- 00:53:03bunch of text so I've taken the 100
- 00:53:06essays from our band 7 8 and N students
- 00:53:08and what it will do is it will
- 00:53:10analyze all of the words and categorize
- 00:53:13the words into A1 A2 B1 B2 C1 C2 and
- 00:53:19this was the tool I also used to
- 00:53:21actually get the words so for example
- 00:53:24here's a list of all the C1 words here's
- 00:53:27all a list of all the C2 words but the
- 00:53:30really really interesting thing about
- 00:53:33this data is that out of all the words
- 00:53:36used only
- 00:53:383.2% of the words are C2 and only
- 00:53:436.04% of the words are C1 what does that
- 00:53:48tell you more than 90% of the words used
- 00:53:51in those band S 8 and N essays are A1 A2
- 00:53:56B B1 B2 now many of you might be
- 00:53:58thinking Chris you're famous for telling
- 00:54:00people to simplify their language and
- 00:54:02not include too many highlevel words
- 00:54:05maybe your students this is what their
- 00:54:08essays look like but real b seven 8 and9
- 00:54:12essays don't actually look like that so
- 00:54:15what I've done is I've taken three
- 00:54:17essays from this book Cambridge 18 these
- 00:54:21are essays that have been produced by
- 00:54:24very high level examiners and put into
- 00:54:27their book so let's see what their
- 00:54:30essays look like
- 00:54:331.31% of their words were C2
- 00:54:373.67% of their words were C1 around 95%
- 00:54:42of their words are A1 A2 B1 B2 and the
- 00:54:47majority of their words are A1 and A2
- 00:54:50more than half and this isn't just I's
- 00:54:53essays you can take any great writing
- 00:54:55like I taken George Orwell essays who is
- 00:54:59probably the greatest writer of the 20th
- 00:55:02century and the graph looks like this
- 00:55:05I've taken academic Journal articles
- 00:55:08from a university days I've taken the
- 00:55:10financial times the Wall Street Journal
- 00:55:13probably the best writing of any
- 00:55:16newspapers it looks like this so when
- 00:55:19you go on to your social media accounts
- 00:55:21you go on to Instagram you go on to Tik
- 00:55:23Tok and some guy is giving you a list of
- 00:55:26C1 and C2 words and telling you that
- 00:55:29your essays are not good enough if your
- 00:55:32essays aren't packed full of these words
- 00:55:35just ask yourself a question who do you
- 00:55:37think knows more the person that runs
- 00:55:39the most successful online I course in
- 00:55:42the world Cambridge examiners George
- 00:55:45Orwell the people who write articles for
- 00:55:48the financial times in the Wall Street
- 00:55:50Journal or some clown on Tik Tok or
- 00:55:53Instagram so you're probably thinking no
- 00:55:55well what do I do do now you've given me
- 00:55:57this list of high Lev words how am I
- 00:56:00actually going to use them in my essay
- 00:56:02to improve my score am I saying not to
- 00:56:06use C1 and C2 words no what I'm saying
- 00:56:10is you should be using all levels of
- 00:56:12words accurately and appropriately if
- 00:56:15you want to know more about how to do
- 00:56:17this this video will go into more detail
- 00:56:20on how to use not just higher level
