Hello guys, welcome back to my channel.
  • 00:00:08
In the last video, I have answer a Q&A session about I have been staying a year in New Zealand.
  • 00:00:15
Today I am going to talk more about Working Holiday Visa.
  • 00:00:19
As now working holiday scheme seems to be more famous compare to before.
  • 00:00:24
So I have listed out everything about the working holiday visa and I am going to talk
  • 00:00:30
    about it today.
  • 00:00:32
Here is the list that I am going to talk about today, which are
  • 00:00:35
Who will be suitable for this scheme?
  • 00:00:36
    How much does it cost?
  • 00:00:37
    Why a living fund?
  • 00:00:38
    How much have I earned?
  • 00:00:39
What are the do's and the don't?
  • 00:00:40
Duration in applying and getting a visa.
  • 00:00:41
What should I do after getting the visa?
  • 00:00:42
    When should we fly over?
  • 00:00:43
What type of job should we expect?
  • 00:00:44
Which part of the island should we go?
  • 00:00:45
    Worth flying or not?
  • 00:00:46
    How has WHV changed me?
  • 00:00:47
Who will be more suitable for this scheme?
  • 00:00:48
There are a few reasons why people choose to go for a working holiday visa.
  • 00:00:53
first, of course, is they want to explore New Zealand and also they want to earn some
  • 00:01:00
money to travel around in new Zealand.
  • 00:01:03
Second, is that they want to come over and earn some money.
  • 00:01:07
Third, before they want to get a work visa here they wanted to explore New Zealand first
  • 00:01:13
which is why they get a working holiday visa and then it will be easier for them to convert
  • 00:01:19
    to a work visa.
  • 00:01:20
The fourth is that they wish to get a working holiday visa and then they go for their studies
  • 00:01:27
    after getting enough money.
  • 00:01:29
Ya, so that is four types of people.
  • 00:01:32
And I will not say who will be more suitable for this scheme as I will brief through everything
  • 00:01:39
and I will conclude in the last part.
  • 00:01:44
So the most important part is the cost, right?
  • 00:01:47
What is the cost of coming to New Zealand by getting a working holiday visa?
  • 00:01:52
We will start with how much it costs in applying for a working holiday visa.
  • 00:01:57
So, now as I showed it is costing 420 New Zealand dollars for now.
  • 00:02:01
If you convert to Malaysia ringgit it will be RM1169.37.
  • 00:02:11
This is the basic amount that you need in order for you to apply for the visa.
  • 00:02:17
So, the next one will be the living fund.
  • 00:02:20
As you guys can see, there is a living fund as a minimum requirement from the government
  • 00:02:26
which is like 2250 New Zealand dollars, it is roughly around six thousand Malaysia ringgit
  • 00:02:34
and some of you guys might be saying oh this is a bit too much but I will let you guys
  • 00:02:42
know about that it is fair enough to get this amount as a minimum requirement.
  • 00:02:48
So, I will try to break down some of the expenses if you are living here.
  • 00:02:54
I will start with the rental as this is the most basic thing.
  • 00:02:58
For the rental is depend on where you live, what type of houses do you live in and which
  • 00:03:04
    part you live in.
  • 00:03:05
For example, whether you live in the north or the south.
  • 00:03:09
You are living in a share house or an apartment.
  • 00:03:13
Some maybe come with an electricity and water bill but some maybe not.
  • 00:03:18
Also depending on which part you stay in, maybe in a more rural area or more city area.
  • 00:03:25
    So, It depends.
  • 00:03:26
But I will come to a figure of maybe around 220 for a week.
  • 00:03:31
For the food I will just go for 50 dollars as I assume that you guys getting a working
  • 00:03:37
holiday visa is that you guys want to save some money.
  • 00:03:41
Okay, so I will set like 50 New Zealand dollars for a week.
  • 00:03:46
The transportation I will set like a 40 dollar.
  • 00:03:48
In total, it will cost around 310 per week.
  • 00:03:51
With the amount that you have which is 2250, it will only last for 6 weeks to 7 weeks.
  • 00:04:00
But you are coming here for like six months which is equivalent to 26 weeks.
  • 00:04:06
This means that you still need another 19 weeks for you to survive in New Zealand.
  • 00:04:11
Of course, I know that you guys will get a job here but it needs some time.
  • 00:04:16
Because some area it might take a longer time for you to get a job and also depend on the
  • 00:04:21
    season.
  • 00:04:22
So it is better for you guys to have a fund in your bank account meanwhile you are looking
  • 00:04:28
    for a job.
  • 00:04:29
It is fair enough for the government to set this minimum requirement of living funds.
  • 00:04:35
Now come to the most interesting part is how much I earn in these six months.
  • 00:04:39
Here is my payslip for six months from June to Dec of 2022 which I have exactly earn
  • 00:04:49
    36570.55new Zealand dollars without tax.
  • 00:04:55
So if you convert it to Malaysia ringgit it will be roughly RM 100k, If after tax it will
  • 00:05:03
be around 30k New Zealand dollars which converts to Malaysia ringgit it will be like RM85k.
  • 00:05:12
On average a month, I have earned around 5k New Zealand dollars which is around RM14k
  • 00:05:20
    Malaysia ringgit.
  • 00:05:22
This job I will say is considered as fixed hours as well.
  • 00:05:26
I sometimes started around 5:30 am some maybe will be like 6 am and ended up around 4 to
  • 00:05:32
    5:30 pm.
  • 00:05:34
So it depends on the job for the day whether it is busy or not.
  • 00:05:39
But I have summed up that average a week I work for like 69 hours.
  • 00:05:43
Of course, it depends on what type of job that you want like for me I go for a factory
  • 00:05:48
job because I want longer hours so I am able to save more money for my study and some people
  • 00:05:55
maybe will tend to go for a restaurant job, seasonal work or maybe a housekeeping job
  • 00:06:02
but in order for them to get a longer hour, they will just go for 2 to 3 jobs in the meantime
  • 00:06:08
in order for them to get longer hours.
  • 00:06:11
But for me, I don't like to go through so much so I just stayed in a factory job.
  • 00:06:17
So depends on what job you want and what is the goal for you to come here like I said
  • 00:06:25
some maybe is for study, and some maybe convert to a work visa it depends on what you want.
  • 00:06:31
If like you want to get this working holiday visa, what is the do, right?
  • 00:06:38
In order for you to successfully get this working holiday visa.
  • 00:06:42
So now I am going to share a few tips about do's you guys should do in order to successfully
  • 00:06:49
    obtain this working holiday visa.
  • 00:06:52
So the first which is the most important one I will say that try to log in and check what
  • 00:07:00
information will be needed like maybe you can log in to a different country and go through
  • 00:07:07
the whole information that you need to submit during the process.
  • 00:07:10
First, you let yourself to familiar with the process.
  • 00:07:15
Second, you can jot down in a document like Word in order for you to trace back easier
  • 00:07:24
for you to reference when on the day you are going to submit for the visa.
  • 00:07:29
Another reason is that it will be better for you to share it with your friends or families
  • 00:07:37
to help you to submit the form together because from my personal experience is that the server
  • 00:07:45
will be very lag and it will keep on jumping out, so it will be better that if you have
  • 00:07:52
your friends or families helping you to do it.
  • 00:07:56
For example, you already go to step 2 and suddenly it lags and you have popped out but
  • 00:08:02
another computer which is the same one that already logged in.
  • 00:08:07
They will continue to step 3 or step 4 so let's say that your computer has popped out
  • 00:08:12
    again.
  • 00:08:13
When you log in here, it will show up and maybe goes to step 5.
  • 00:08:17
It will be faster and easier for you to complete the application the final tip is that If you
  • 00:08:25
have a friend or relative in New Zealand please get them to help you because the rate of success
  • 00:08:33
getting a working holiday visa will be higher if someone is applying from new Zealand.
  • 00:08:39
The last is be prepared everything before the gate has opened for you to apply for it,
  • 00:08:50
    maybe 15-20 minutes before.
  • 00:08:53
Now come to the part don't.
  • 00:08:55
    what you don't do it.
  • 00:08:57
I will say this is 100% important because my partner he had made this mistake which
  • 00:09:03
caused a lot of issues that he need to go through which made us fly separately to New
  • 00:09:10
    Zealand as well.
  • 00:09:11
This is because of that he did not renew his passport before applying for the working holiday
  • 00:09:18
    visa.
  • 00:09:19
We apply and only then did he go to change his passport in return when we get the working
  • 00:09:27
holiday visa back, the passport number is different from the visa.
  • 00:09:31
So he has to go through a lot of trouble like he needs to send some email or some proof
  • 00:09:39
to Singapore and then needs to wait for a certain time period for them to get back to
  • 00:09:46
verify that this is his passport.
  • 00:09:50
I don't really know how it goes through because I can't really take part in it, I only can
  • 00:09:56
    say this is very troublesome.
  • 00:09:58
So please get your passport renew before you apply for the working holiday visa.
  • 00:10:03
    This is very important.
  • 00:10:06
Now has come to the part which is the duration.
  • 00:10:09
How long have we waited for the visa to get approved?
  • 00:10:12
So in the system, it stated 36 days, but for us, we get it within 8 days.
  • 00:10:17
We started to apply on the 15 of March and we get it on the 24 of March which is 8 days
  • 00:10:23
    including the weekend.
  • 00:10:25
During the time you are applying for the visa, I will say it takes around 3 hours.
  • 00:10:31
We started to apply at 5 am and we finish around 8 am so is like 3 to 4 hours.
  • 00:10:38
I am not sure about that.
  • 00:10:39
But that is the time I get through.
  • 00:10:43
Now you have successfully gotten your holiday working visa, what should you do?
  • 00:10:49
The first step is that you should get your police certificate.
  • 00:10:52
This is very important in order for you to fly to New Zealand.
  • 00:10:55
This police certificate only cost you around RM 20 but it needs to wait for 1-2 months.
  • 00:11:04
So I would recommend that you can apply before you apply for your working holiday visa but
  • 00:11:10
do take note that this police certificate.
  • 00:11:13
After you get it, you have to use it within 3 months, so you can roughly calculate the
  • 00:11:20
time when should you register for that.
  • 00:11:23
the second thing is the medical cert, some they say is necessary, some they say is not
  • 00:11:29
    necessary.
  • 00:11:30
But for me, I always go for the safest one, so I go for a medical check once I get my
  • 00:11:34
working holiday visa because it is very costly, so I don't recommend that you do it before
  • 00:11:39
applying for the working holiday visa as you do not know whether you will successfully
  • 00:11:43
    get it or not.
  • 00:11:44
Of course, I hope that you guys can get it but as the safest way for you to save money,
  • 00:11:50
I will say you get it after you successfully obtain one of it.
  • 00:11:54
It cost around RM600 for you to do this medical check it takes around 3 hours for you to go
  • 00:12:03
through the whole process and you will get the result within a few days.
  • 00:12:07
It will automatically pop up to the New Zealand system which the immigration can see it immediately.
  • 00:12:13
Of course, you can choose to do it if they ask you to do so but it will take a longer
  • 00:12:19
period of time for you to go through the process.
  • 00:12:22
So it depends on you guys but for me, I just go for the safest route and the best thing
  • 00:12:27
is that if you are planning to get another visa in New Zealand (within 3 months) then
  • 00:12:35
it will be good for you to do this medical check in Malaysia as is very expensive to
  • 00:12:40
have a medical check in New Zealand.
  • 00:12:43
For me, I get it in Malaysia and once I fly to New Zealand within three months I applied
  • 00:12:50
for a work visa I don't have to go through another medical check in New Zealand as I
  • 00:12:56
can use this medical certificate which saves me a lot of money.
  • 00:13:02
Once I have used this, it can last for like two years so which means within these two
  • 00:13:06
years if I apply for another visa like a student visa, I don't have to go through another medical
  • 00:13:13
    check again.
  • 00:13:14
So it depends on what situation you are in and you can decide about that.
  • 00:13:20
Now come to the part when do I recommend when should you guys come over?
  • 00:13:25
I will say that it depends on what type of job you want, what experience you want to
  • 00:13:30
go through and you make the decision for that.
  • 00:13:34
As New Zealand has four seasons which are different seasons they have different jobs
  • 00:13:39
    and different experiences.
  • 00:13:40
So, I will first start with my own experiences, when I landed in New Zealand around the end
  • 00:13:47
of April which is nearly winter.
  • 00:13:49
A lot of seasonal work like apple, kiwi, packing job everything is not as demanded so I go
  • 00:13:58
    for a factory job.
  • 00:14:01
And also the reason I go for a factory job is that I know when the winter season comes,
  • 00:14:06
I only can choose to work from a ski area or vineyard (like cutting some grapes or picking
  • 00:14:15
some grapes) but a lot of people don't recommend me to go for as is very very cold and you
  • 00:14:23
have to stand under the cold situation with your hand cutting the grape which a lot of
  • 00:14:31
people don't recommend for that and I don't recommend as well as it is really cold during
  • 00:14:37
    winter.
  • 00:14:38
Secondly, I don't go for ski because is unstable work hours so I go for a factory job.
  • 00:14:43
You might think that maybe I can come in the next season which is spring.
  • 00:14:52
I don't really know about spring that much but I will say that a lot of people come during
  • 00:14:57
spring because of that they want to apply for a job for summer as during summer is very
  • 00:15:02
hard for you to get a job.
  • 00:15:04
    Why?
  • 00:15:05
Because everyone is able to work during that period of time.
  • 00:15:09
For example, for students, that's the only period of time they can work full-time to
  • 00:15:15
get money, it is also the time when a lot of the seasonal work able to work.
  • 00:15:21
So I would say that is a lot of the supply but meanwhile, there's also a lot of demand.
  • 00:15:28
So it will be a bit difficult for you guys to obtain a job during the summer.
  • 00:15:32
That's why some of them, they will come during spring and they will apply for a job in the
  • 00:15:38
    summer.
  • 00:15:39
I would say that if you come around spring, maybe you can start with a factory job as
  • 00:15:43
well or maybe you can go to some restaurant or maybe like a supermarket to go for it.
  • 00:15:50
Yeah, but I do not really know about Spring, but that's what I can talk about.
  • 00:15:54
    for summer.
  • 00:15:55
I would say this is the best time you can come to New Zealand to work during the summer
  • 00:16:01
because it is not very cold but not very warm.
  • 00:16:06
    This is the best time.
  • 00:16:07
But as I mentioned just now, it's a bit hard for you to obtain a job during the summer.
  • 00:16:12
The second thing is that summer flight ticket is very, very expensive.
  • 00:16:17
It's not expensive, it's super expensive like double up or triple up the flight ticket.
  • 00:16:23
I believe that it's because a lot of people they'll come for vacation and some maybe they
  • 00:16:29
will fly back to their own country, especially during the Christmas season or maybe during
  • 00:16:34
the Chinese New Year or they fly back to some cultural celebrations.
  • 00:16:42
this is the reason why the flight is so expensive.
  • 00:16:46
Yeah, so there are pros and cons.
  • 00:16:49
So depends on which you guys prefer.
  • 00:16:51
And then the last season will be the autumn season.
  • 00:16:55
The autumn season I will say is like mm, because it's in the middle of the season like for
  • 00:17:02
the apple for the kiwi, but it almost getting near to the period of the ending season.
  • 00:17:08
    Yeah.
  • 00:17:09
So this means you have to switch the job when it comes to the end of the autumn.
  • 00:17:16
here is all the four-season type of job that I have talked about.
  • 00:17:21
So it depends on your budget, like the flight ticket and the second is what is the experience
  • 00:17:26
    that you want to experience?
  • 00:17:27
Uh, like what's the weather that you want to go through, whether you are a person that
  • 00:17:31
is afraid of cold or you love the cold and you pick yourself, which is a season that
  • 00:17:36
    you recommend.
  • 00:17:37
Of course, I recommend it for the summer because I'm a person that I don't really like cold
  • 00:17:42
weather as it is really cold here.
  • 00:17:45
So it depends on what are your decisions and what's your plan, and what's your next move.
  • 00:17:50
Yeah, I will attach a link that has specifically clarified in which season it will be available
  • 00:17:58
for which type of fruits and also in which part of the area and also in the north and
  • 00:18:05
south island so you guys can go through it.
  • 00:18:08
What type of jobs should you expect in getting a working holiday visa to work in New Zealand?
  • 00:18:13
So I will say that most of them will go for a seasonal job, factory shop, factory job,
  • 00:18:20
merchandiser and housekeeper, cleaner, farm job, ski job and some maybe they will go for
  • 00:18:27
their field like IT or car repairing and they plan to convert to work visa.
  • 00:18:33
    I don't know.
  • 00:18:34
So it's just like an example.
  • 00:18:37
So it depends on what is the aim for you to come to New Zealand by holding a working holiday
  • 00:18:43
    visa.
  • 00:18:44
Of course, everyone will say that oh it's a chance for you to come over and experience
  • 00:18:49
but experience is a broad word.
  • 00:18:51
    What type of experience?
  • 00:18:53
It depends on what do you want to, am I right?
  • 00:18:56
Some of my friends come here to experience their own job back in their country like IT
  • 00:19:03
like car repair and they are successfully getting a work visa after they have ended
  • 00:19:08
    their working holiday visa.
  • 00:19:10
Some of them they just come to experience like they have changed a lot of jobs in a
  • 00:19:15
few months because they want to experience a different job and then they get the money
  • 00:19:21
and then they travel and then they back to their country.
  • 00:19:24
    Yeah.
  • 00:19:25
So depends on what do you want and this is what I can share.
  • 00:19:30
Is just imagine that like you are come from another country but in this country they also
  • 00:19:38
have a different type of job that you can go for.
  • 00:19:41
    Yeah.
  • 00:19:42
So of course the thing that you guys have to remember is that we are the foreigner and
  • 00:19:49
of course everything they will prioritize their own family first.
  • 00:19:54
    Yeah.
  • 00:19:56
So it depends on your luck whether you can get a job or not.
  • 00:19:59
But I will say that if your job is in an expert area, like a skill area, it will be more easier
  • 00:20:06
    for others to obtain it.
  • 00:20:08
    Yeah.
  • 00:20:09
Like for example if I want to go to IT field, I don't have any experience.
  • 00:20:13
I can't really get a spot in a company to work with it.
  • 00:20:19
    Okay.
  • 00:20:20
Which part of island should go to?
  • 00:20:21
So in New Zealand there's two part of island, one north, one south.
  • 00:20:25
For the north it's more like a city area and for the south it's more like a rural area
  • 00:20:33
but both of them have their pros and cons like for the north it is more like city so
  • 00:20:38
obviously it will have more food, more people, more busy life and more job opportunity.
  • 00:20:45
But in the south, because is more chill, more slow pace so it will returns have low job
  • 00:20:51
opportunity but you are able to experience a lot of beautiful scenery in the south.
  • 00:20:57
    Yeah.
  • 00:20:58
So depends on which of the area that you prefer, what type of job that you want to, what type
  • 00:21:05
of life that you wish to have to experience?
  • 00:21:09
Yeah, like some of my friends they prefer to go to a rural area.
  • 00:21:13
Some maybe they go for city area.
  • 00:21:15
I will say I'm a north island person, I'm a more city person so I will prefer to go
  • 00:21:23
    for the north.
  • 00:21:24
    Yeah.
  • 00:21:25
Is it worth it or not?
  • 00:21:26
I will say yes or no and why do I say so?
  • 00:21:30
Because it really depends on what is your aim and your goal in getting working holiday
  • 00:21:35
visa and I will make a simple calculations whether is it worth it in getting a working
  • 00:21:41
    holiday visa here or not.
  • 00:21:43
I'm going to calculate the cost for the visa application it costs like 420 new Zealand
  • 00:21:48
dollar for the police certificate it will cost like roughly 7 New Zealand dollars.
  • 00:21:52
The medical cert is around 217 New Zealand dollar, working holiday insurance is 204 New
  • 00:22:00
    Zealand dollar.
  • 00:22:01
It's very important to get insurance if you are in a different country, even though you
  • 00:22:06
already have your insurance in your country, it's still important for you to get a working
  • 00:22:10
holiday visa insurance in New Zealand because like for my case is that once I have fly to
  • 00:22:17
New Zealand over three months, if anything happen, touch wood happen and it's not covered
  • 00:22:24
from the insurance company, it's stated in the contract.
  • 00:22:28
I'm not sure about your contract or maybe you can ask your agent about it but I can
  • 00:22:33
say that most of it is not covered.
  • 00:22:35
In order for you to reactivate it's that you have to fly back to your country.
  • 00:22:40
Like me, I have to fly back to Malaysia and it get activate again for my insurance but
  • 00:22:45
it's very costly for me to fly back.
  • 00:22:47
It's impossible just for this insurance and I fly back so I just purchase another working
  • 00:22:52
holiday visa insurance and it's not costly as well it just cost you 200 new Zealand dollar.
  • 00:22:59
    for the flight ticket.
  • 00:23:00
It depends on when do you fly to New Zealand as I say during summer it be more pricey but
  • 00:23:07
for my case I will say that my ticket is considered as pricier because by that time when I fly
  • 00:23:13
    over is during covid.
  • 00:23:14
For me it cost around 1,211 New Zealand dollar.
  • 00:23:19
So in total it cost me 3,270 New Zealand dollar which come to Malaysia it will be nearly 9,000.
  • 00:23:26
Now we still have to add up the living fund that require from the government, which is
  • 00:23:31
    like nearly 15,000 Malaysia ringgit.
  • 00:23:34
So it's better for you to have this amount of money before you apply for this working
  • 00:23:39
    holiday visa.
  • 00:23:40
Okay, so now you might ask me that, oh now we already spend so much in order to get this
  • 00:23:46
working holiday visa whether is it worth it for me to get this working holiday visa?
  • 00:23:51
Whether am I really able to earn money by getting this visa?
  • 00:23:55
    Okay, let me show you.
  • 00:23:57
Now I'm going to list out the living cost in New Zealand per week.
  • 00:24:01
    First, it will be rental.
  • 00:24:04
It depends on what type of house, which area which island we live in.
  • 00:24:09
But I will share based on my personal experience is that I have a friend, who stay in a share
  • 00:24:15
house Bund-bed, which cost only 90-100 New Zealand dollar per week I have a friend who
  • 00:24:24
stay in a share house that cost 220, and also I have experienced staying alone, which cost
  • 00:24:30
    me 320 per week.
  • 00:24:33
    Yeah.
  • 00:24:34
So I will just get to the middle point, okay, which is 220 as a share house.
  • 00:24:40
For food, I will go to like 50 New Zealand dollars.
  • 00:24:44
    for the transport.
  • 00:24:45
I will go for 40 New Zealand dollars.
  • 00:24:48
So it is around between 190 to 360.
  • 00:24:53
I will just go for the bigger amount okay?
  • 00:24:56
Which is like 360 and I'm staying in New Zealand for six months, which is 26 weeks in total
  • 00:25:02
I have to pay for like 9319 New Zealand dollars, which is around 26,000 Malaysian ringgit.
  • 00:25:10
Okay, now you will say that whoa, this is a big cost, right?
  • 00:25:16
Okay don't worry, we still haven't deducted the part that we have earned during the six
  • 00:25:21
    months.
  • 00:25:22
Okay, six months we earned around 30,000 New Zealand dollars.
  • 00:25:26
    Okay?
  • 00:25:27
And then I will deduct the fixed cost I've calculated just now and what I have remained
  • 00:25:32
is roughly 18,000 New Zealand dollars, which you convert to Malaysia ringgit, it will be
  • 00:25:39
nearly 50,000 Malaysia ringgit in six months.
  • 00:25:42
    Okay?
  • 00:25:43
So this is what I will be earning, okay?
  • 00:25:46
This calculation is based on purely working without travel, without spending.
  • 00:25:52
If let's say you want to go for a two week or a few weeks of travel in New Zealand before
  • 00:25:58
you head back to Malaysia, it'll be another case and it depends on what you spend, but
  • 00:26:04
what I can share about the traveling costs is that it costs the same when you travel
  • 00:26:10
    in your country.
  • 00:26:11
Like for example in Malaysia it costs 100 to 300 for you to stay in a hotel.
  • 00:26:17
It costs the same in New Zealand, it costs like 100 or maybe 200, 300 for you to stay
  • 00:26:23
at night in the hotel in New Zealand.
  • 00:26:26
So this is how it will be calculated and we have spent 3000 to 4,000 before when we travelled
  • 00:26:36
    in New Zealand.
  • 00:26:37
    Yeah.
  • 00:26:38
And it's really costly for us to travel around because you can't really cook, you have to
  • 00:26:42
eat the food outside and the food is quite costly it cost around 20 to 30 New Zealand
  • 00:26:47
dollars and you have to rent a car as well.
  • 00:26:50
Renting a car in New Zealand is super expensive, especially if you think of getting a caravan,
  • 00:26:56
I don't really recommend that to do it during the summer because the price is crazy.
  • 00:27:02
    Yeah.
  • 00:27:03
But depends on how are you going to determine the budget, and what is your goal in coming
  • 00:27:09
    here.
  • 00:27:10
after we have understood all the scenarios and it's time for us to back to the first
  • 00:27:14
    questions.
  • 00:27:15
This scheme is suitable for which type of people.
  • 00:27:19
So the first one is for those who want to come and experience it.
  • 00:27:23
Meanwhile, you want to earn some money.
  • 00:27:25
I would say definitely it is the scheme for you, okay?
  • 00:27:28
You can get to earn some money and you can get to explore and you can go back to Malaysia
  • 00:27:32
    or to your country.
  • 00:27:34
This is definitely a yes for you.
  • 00:27:37
The second one is for those who plan to get a working holiday visa as their starting point,
  • 00:27:43
but plan to convert to a work visa afterwards.
  • 00:27:45
I will say for now the work visa is a bit hard to convert as the New Zealand government
  • 00:27:51
has raised up the medium wages again.
  • 00:27:55
    Yeah.
  • 00:27:56
So it's not easy as previously.
  • 00:27:59
So now it's a bit harder, a bit difficult.
  • 00:28:02
But if let's say you are on the green list, okay then it will be easier for you to go
  • 00:28:07
for this plan if you are on the green list zoon and your plan is to convert to a work
  • 00:28:16
visa after workie ng holiday visa, I will say maybe it's a good chance for you to come
  • 00:28:22
and explore first and you can decide whether you want or you don't want to convert.
  • 00:28:27
Yeah, I have news which is that I have a few of my friends, they come to New Zealand and
  • 00:28:33
they have successfully converted to work visas by working in green list occupations.
  • 00:28:39
for the third is that they want to further study.
  • 00:28:42
    Okay?
  • 00:28:43
I need to be honest with you guys that working for six months is not sufficient enough for
  • 00:28:48
you to pay for international school fees in New Zealand.
  • 00:28:53
    It is ridiculously expensive.
  • 00:28:55
I would say it's very expensive and you can't cover it.
  • 00:29:00
Maybe you will say like, oh I already earned like 17,000 Zealand dollars by working in
  • 00:29:06
    six months.
  • 00:29:07
I will say that's not enough.
  • 00:29:08
That's only enough for you to prove your living fund being a student.
  • 00:29:12
But you have to pay for a school fee, maybe another 20k or 30k or 50k New Zealand dollars
  • 00:29:19
in a year depending on what are you studying.
  • 00:29:22
So I will say is a no.
  • 00:29:24
If you are thinking to use a working holiday visa and you convert to a student visa, it's
  • 00:29:30
possible that if you still want to go study, but in the meantime like in the middle of
  • 00:29:35
the period you have to convert to a work visa and you work a longer period of time.
  • 00:29:40
Only then you can go for a course in New Zealand.
  • 00:29:45
The last one is that for those who want to come and earn money, I will say definitely
  • 00:29:48
is a yes as you see that you guys are able to earn so much in just six months.
  • 00:29:55
But of course, this provided that you are not so enjoying the luxurious life as you
  • 00:30:02
are here to earn money not here to enjoy your life because your aim is to earn money.
  • 00:30:07
So you have to expect that in these six months, you are working a tougher job and you can't
  • 00:30:12
really have an extra spend on some luxury product or some extra food that you have.
  • 00:30:21
A lot of things you need to think of are like I have to save, save .. only you are able
  • 00:30:27
to save this amount of money.
  • 00:30:28
Only then you can earn this much money.
  • 00:30:32
If for those you can't go through the tough life, I will not say is a tough life.
  • 00:30:39
A job you never work before in your country like I never work before in a factory job
  • 00:30:44
    in my country.
  • 00:30:45
I never know that it is quite hard for me to adapt to it but I made it because I know
  • 00:30:55
    what is my goal.
  • 00:30:56
    I need the money.
  • 00:30:58
But, I also do have a few friends who can't cope with it and they just fly back to the
  • 00:31:03
    country.
  • 00:31:04
In the end, they waste a lot of money, they did not earn any money but they ended up wasting
  • 00:31:09
    a lot of money.
  • 00:31:10
So, if you really want to come here, your goal is to earn money, what you have to do
  • 00:31:16
is that you have to focus on...
  • 00:31:20
The last is, how has a working holiday visa changed me.
  • 00:31:25
I will say that the first is get to more clarify regards on what I want to work because I know
  • 00:31:32
that I don't want to work in a factory job forever.
  • 00:31:36
    This is not my goal.
  • 00:31:37
This is just a stepping stone for me to step to another stone as I go for a student visa.
  • 00:31:47
I go for my study and ended up I want to work an occupation I want to.
  • 00:31:54
I am more clear on what is field I want to go towards.
  • 00:31:58
    What is my goal?
  • 00:32:00
As I keep popping myself into a situation where I don't really like it.
  • 00:32:06
So I keep on forcing myself to think about what you really want, you have to be clear
  • 00:32:12
    about that.
  • 00:32:13
Because you don't have so much time to waste, you don't have so much money for you to waste,
  • 00:32:18
you have to be realistic, be clear and strive for the goal for yourself.
  • 00:32:23
So this it one of the things have working holiday visa changed me.
  • 00:32:28
The second thing is that I started realizing that things are always hard.
  • 00:32:31
If you are a person thinking of getting a working holiday visa to run away from the
  • 00:32:38
current issue that you are facing right now.
  • 00:32:39
I can tell you that this is not a good solution.
  • 00:32:42
Because when you run away from a current issue, you will be facing more in a different stage.
  • 00:32:48
For example, in Malaysia we always complain that it is very hard for us to survive, that
  • 00:32:54
is too competitive, very less job opportunities, and a lot more.
  • 00:32:58
But I can tell you what, when you come to another country as a foreigner that's more
  • 00:33:03
things that you have to concern about.
  • 00:33:05
For example, we have to go through all the legislation and immigration before we make
  • 00:33:12
a single decision because we can't violate the rules and regulations as a foreigner.
  • 00:33:17
The second thing is that we can't really pick a job but instead, a job picks us.
  • 00:33:23
As with a lot of jobs we can't get to be prioritize because we are a foreigner.
  • 00:33:29
It always has things pop up for you to solve, so I have learned that everything is difficult.
  • 00:33:37
The third thing I have learned is that be more independent.

Because I am here now in a foreign country, I don't have my family.
  • 00:33:45
I have to learn to be independent, I have to be responsible for every steps and decision
  • 00:33:51
    I have made.
  • 00:33:53
For example, when I am sick I don't have my family here to cook for me, to take care of
  • 00:33:57
    me.
  • 00:33:58
In Malaysia, my family will pay for the rental, water bill, and everything but now I started
  • 00:34:03
to feel that that's so hard for a living.
  • 00:34:07
Like we have to go through so much, we have to pay for the bill meanwhile we have to maintain
  • 00:34:13
our jobs, our studies and all that.
  • 00:34:15
So, I started to become more independent by getting a working holiday visa.
  • 00:34:24
So that is all about today that I want to share about the working holiday visa.
  • 00:34:29
If there is something that I did not cover but you are curious about.
  • 00:34:33
You can leave me a comment and I will reply to you about that.
  • 00:34:56
So I will see you the next time.
  • 00:35:04
    Goodbye!
