The speaker aims to delve deep into the household of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), particularly in the early days of Islam, to glean insights into family dynamics and understand the formation of key relationships and events. Through various narrations, the speaker wants to illuminate how families were structured back then, emphasizing it's akin to a village where children might sleep amongst aunts, uncles, etc. The aim is to piece together these insights to not only gain appreciation for the individuals involved but also to cultivate love for the Prophet (PBUH) owing to his special treatment of people.

  • 00:05:00 - 00:10:00

Ali was raised in the house of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) after the Prophet and his uncle, Abbas, decided to help Abu Talib by taking in two of his children due to Abu Talib’s financial difficulties. A noteworthy point is that Khadijah did not breastfeed Ali, which preserved the permissibility of his future marriage to Fatima. Ali was born about 10 years before the Prophet began his mission, and he supported him from the outset. The speaker recounts Ali's mother's significance, Fatima bint Asad, the first Hashimite woman to accept Islam.

  • 00:10:00 - 00:15:00

Fatima, Muhammad's (PBUH) daughter, was born around the time of the Prophet's first revelation. Named by her mother Khadijah after her own mother, Fatima's birth during this monumental period marked her as special. While the Prophet began his mission, he and his family faced numerous challenges. Fatima, though a child, witnessed and endured these hardships early on. This narrative highlights the familial connections and the early struggles faced by the Prophet's family.

  • 00:15:00 - 00:20:00

The Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) children experienced hardships, living in a time when some were engaged young. Fatima was deeply cherished by her father, indicated by his preferential naming of her alongside his beloved aunt as the closest ones to his heart. This was a society where daughters were often underappreciated, yet the Prophet (PBUH) demonstrated an unparalleled affection towards Fatima, setting a standard for fatherhood and the value of women in his society.

  • 00:20:00 - 00:25:00

During the harsh persecutions post-Khadijah's and Abu Talib's deaths, Fatima played a significant role in comforting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), aptly earning her the nickname 'the mother of her father.' Despite the hardships, she remained a source of solace for the Prophet, cleaning his wounds and supporting him emotionally. This depiction underscores the deep emotional bonds within the Prophet's family during Islam's nascent days, with Fatima embodying strength and support amidst adversities.

  • 00:25:00 - 00:30:00

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once demonstrated the importance of justice by stating he would punish even his family if necessary, reflecting his unwavering fairness. Particularly, his relationship with Fatima showcased a profound emotional bond. Her consistent support and involvement during challenging times, like the persecution after Khadijah’s death, further highlight Fatima's unique place within the Prophet's life. Her loyal companionship became symbolic, reinforcing the values of justice and familial love.

  • 00:30:00 - 00:35:00

Fatima was described as resembling her father, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), both physically and in character. Their relationship was marked by deep affection and respect, with the Prophet expressing immense love and warmth towards her. He often visited her before leaving Medina and upon returning, signifying her importance in his life. This relationship set a benchmark for familial bonds, where the Prophet’s daughters were cherished and respected in an era where women faced societal challenges.

  • 00:35:00 - 00:40:00

Ali and Fatima's marriage is one of great historical significance. Following the death of the Prophet's daughter Ruqayyah during the Battle of Badr, the Prophet rejected proposals from prominent figures Abu Bakr and Umar for Fatima’s hand. Instead, Ali, despite his reservations about his eligibility due to his poverty, was secretly favored by the Prophet for his daughter, highlighting the Prophet's wisdom and the deep bonds within his family circle.

  • 00:40:00 - 00:45:00

Ali's eventual proposal to Fatima unfolds with nervous anticipation. Encouraged by others to seek Fatima's hand, despite his poverty and doubts, Ali approaches the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and silently manages through the Prophet's understanding to express his wish to marry Fatima. Prophet Muhammad allows this union with minimal material requirements, a symbolic act emphasizing simplicity and the value of character and integrity over wealth.

  • 00:45:00 - 00:50:00

The wedding preparations for Ali and Fatima illustrated communal support and emphasized simplicity. With minimal material wealth, Ali's shield was agreed as a dowry, later generously boosted by Uthman’s kindness. The Prophet oversaw preparations, emphasizing a modest yet joyous event. The simple gathering underscored a cultural shift against extravagance in marriages, reflecting the core Islamic values of moderation and community support.

  • 00:50:00 - 00:56:43

The marriage of Ali and Fatima was a cherished event, deeply rooted in simplicity and unity, reflecting a deep community spirit where everyone contributed to the marriage. The Prophet personally blessed the union, illustrating his role not only as a father but as a guide ensuring the spiritual wellbeing of his family. This narrative highlights the emphasis on simple values and mutual support within early Muslim community practices.

these next two are uh crucial because
  • 00:00:04
what I really wanted to do is to as much
  • 00:00:07
as possible get into the house of the
  • 00:00:10
    prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
  • 00:00:11
really understand the Dynamics of that
  • 00:00:13
household and how things are forming
  • 00:00:15
especially in the early days of Islam
  • 00:00:18
and so as I was putting together all of
  • 00:00:21
these notes and getting into these small
  • 00:00:23
narrations where you often get these
  • 00:00:24
snapshots into the lives and you know
  • 00:00:27
someone asked last week a very important
  • 00:00:29
question where when Ali is talking about
  • 00:00:31
being in the household of the Prophet s
  • 00:00:33
alaihi wasallam and being the only one
  • 00:00:35
to sort of witness the witness the night
  • 00:00:37
    prayer of um the
  • 00:00:41
prophet where is z where are the other
  • 00:00:44
children what's happening here and Allah
  • 00:00:46
knows best we we can only take what we
  • 00:00:48
can take from the narrations themselves
  • 00:00:50
of course the way that families were
  • 00:00:52
raised back then where kids were
  • 00:00:53
sleeping Aunts Uncles it's a village
  • 00:00:56
type feel right Allah knows best but uh
  • 00:01:00
hopefully what we can do through the
  • 00:01:01
series is start to inshallah take these
  • 00:01:03
isolated snapshots and then go one by
  • 00:01:05
one and start to see the trajectory
  • 00:01:07
Through The Eyes of that person that
  • 00:01:09
enters very early in into this this
  • 00:01:12
story This Magnificent story of the
  • 00:01:14
    prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
  • 00:01:16
then through that to be very honest with
  • 00:01:18
you um you're not just gaining an
  • 00:01:20
appreciation for each one of these sa
  • 00:01:23
each one of these first but really each
  • 00:01:25
and every single one of these stories
  • 00:01:26
makes you fall in love with the prophet
  • 00:01:28
s wasam all over again because one of
  • 00:01:30
the things that fascinates me is how he
  • 00:01:32
was able to make all of these people
  • 00:01:34
feel so special you know when you read
  • 00:01:37
    the biographies of the
  • 00:01:40
    companions sometimes you really think
  • 00:01:43
like this person is the most important
  • 00:01:45
person in the story and then you read
  • 00:01:46
the next story and that's the ability of
  • 00:01:48
    the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
  • 00:01:50
to treat his family and his companions
  • 00:01:52
in a certain way that he wasn't just
  • 00:01:55
ignoring you know ignoring them and then
  • 00:01:57
focusing on this person here and this
  • 00:01:59
    person there
  • 00:02:00
however um the actual family of the
  • 00:02:03
Prophet if he treated his companions
  • 00:02:05
this way imagine what it was like to
  • 00:02:08
actually be his blood imagine what it
  • 00:02:10
was like to actually be in his household
  • 00:02:12
and to be treated in a certain way and
  • 00:02:14
so each one of these is going to give us
  • 00:02:16
a different perspective but these next
  • 00:02:18
two in particular really building off of
  • 00:02:21
last week's where we talked about
  • 00:02:23
ali who will give us a very special look
  • 00:02:27
at the life of the prophet and at the
  • 00:02:29
houseold of the Prophet wasallam at this
  • 00:02:31
family of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:02:33
wasallam so before we get into the
  • 00:02:36
marriage of Ali and Fatima quick recap
  • 00:02:39
    of and then let's
  • 00:02:42
bring into the story and then talk about
  • 00:02:45
these two coming together so with with
  • 00:02:47
Ali we said his mother's name was what I
  • 00:02:50
got to test yall's knowledge Fatima so
  • 00:02:53
we said there were a lot of fatimas
  • 00:02:55
right there were a lot of hins and there
  • 00:02:57
were a lot of fatimas those are the the
  • 00:02:59
two names that you constantly see
  • 00:03:01
popping up a lot of people named hin a
  • 00:03:03
lot of people named Fatima so Fatima B
  • 00:03:07
what what is his mother's full name
  • 00:03:10
Fatima bad and the way you can remember
  • 00:03:13
that is that we said she wanted to she
  • 00:03:15
actually named him first Assad after her
  • 00:03:18
Father which means Lion Okay Fatima B
  • 00:03:21
Assad and we said that she was the first
  • 00:03:25
what she was a first herself does anyone
  • 00:03:29
    remember
  • 00:03:32
    the first not Ki
  • 00:03:34
Muslim the first hashimi woman to accept
  • 00:03:38
Islam Hashim was the tribe of the
  • 00:03:40
Prophet benu Hashim so she was the first
  • 00:03:43
woman who was a hashimite from the
  • 00:03:44
actual family of the Prophet Sall alaihi
  • 00:03:46
wasallam from his tribe to accept Islam
  • 00:03:49
and we said that she was about the 11th
  • 00:03:51
person the 10th or the 11th person uh to
  • 00:03:53
enter into Islam when you look into the
  • 00:03:55
order uh also another mother likee
  • 00:03:58
    figure to the prophet
  • 00:04:00
    right there's and then there's fatim B
  • 00:04:02
Assad who raises the prophet S wasallam
  • 00:04:05
as a motherly figure from the age of 6
  • 00:04:06
to 25 uh accepted Islam very early on
  • 00:04:11
made the migration to abisinia lived
  • 00:04:14
through the boycott made the migration
  • 00:04:15
to Medina went through all the hardships
  • 00:04:18
    alongside the prophet sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:04:20
wasallam and Ali was born about as we
  • 00:04:23
said 10 years before prophethood so
  • 00:04:26
about the year 600 exactly between 600
  • 00:04:30
602 he was uh born and he supports the
  • 00:04:33
    prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam right
  • 00:04:35
away we talked about how the prophet
  • 00:04:37
peace be upon Him brought into the house
  • 00:04:41
he told his uncle AB let's go to Abu
  • 00:04:44
Talib and help him out with his poverty
  • 00:04:46
so let's let's take two of his children
  • 00:04:49
and raise them ourselves so that Abu
  • 00:04:51
Talib could deal with the poverty in his
  • 00:04:53
household the messenger of Allah goes
  • 00:04:56
with abas the prophet walks up to Ali
  • 00:04:59
    and grabs him
  • 00:05:00
AB walks up to ja and he takes him and
  • 00:05:03
both of them would raise those two until
  • 00:05:05
they reached their adulthood and we also
  • 00:05:08
said that one of the Miracles is that
  • 00:05:10
Khadijah did not breastfeed Ali which
  • 00:05:13
would have made her which would have
  • 00:05:14
made him Haram for Fatima which would
  • 00:05:16
have made him like a son effectively a
  • 00:05:18
son to Khadijah had she breastfed him
  • 00:05:21
but for for whatever reason it's the the
  • 00:05:24
    mercy of Allah
  • 00:05:25
to and the wisdom of Allah and how that
  • 00:05:27
would play out she never actually
  • 00:05:30
fed though he was of that age and though
  • 00:05:32
it was natural for a child to be fed uh
  • 00:05:36
by a mother that that that had flowing
  • 00:05:38
milk um in those days so that's he comes
  • 00:05:41
into the house as we said accepts Islam
  • 00:05:45
right away and that sight of the Prophet
  • 00:05:48
s wasallam khad and Ali praying in front
  • 00:05:51
of the Kaa praying all alone there was
  • 00:05:54
    something there now let's talk
  • 00:05:58
about and and how she comes into and her
  • 00:06:03
nickname The Beloved one the daughter of
  • 00:06:06
    the beloved
  • 00:06:08
one may Allah be pleased with her and
  • 00:06:10
send his peace and blessings upon her
  • 00:06:12
father and her mother she was
  • 00:06:16
born according to most historians she
  • 00:06:19
was actually born in the first year of
  • 00:06:22
prophethood okay so according to um many
  • 00:06:26
of the many of the scholars like abim
  • 00:06:30
um she was born the year that the
  • 00:06:33
prophet s received Revelation so think
  • 00:06:35
about her birth which would mean you
  • 00:06:39
know that when was running up and down
  • 00:06:42
to help the prophet wasam going through
  • 00:06:44
that stress she could have been pregnant
  • 00:06:46
with her sixth child or fifth or sixth
  • 00:06:49
    child because there's dispute about
  • 00:06:51
whether Abdullah is older or younger
  • 00:06:53
than Fatima or she would have been an
  • 00:06:55
infant so according to some she was born
  • 00:06:58
either right before prophethood so she
  • 00:07:00
was literally a baby when the prophet
  • 00:07:02
sallam received Revelation or she was
  • 00:07:05
born right after the prophet Isam
  • 00:07:07
received Revelation in that very first
  • 00:07:10
year so that's a special child right
  • 00:07:13
just the circumstances of her birth to
  • 00:07:15
come in during that time period of the
  • 00:07:17
Prophet s alam's life where he just
  • 00:07:19
received Revelation um and this is a a
  • 00:07:23
gift that Allah gives to them is special
  • 00:07:25
in and of itself so she was the last of
  • 00:07:28
the prophet alam's daughter um and I
  • 00:07:33
mentioned I believe a narration in when
  • 00:07:34
we were talking about that the way that
  • 00:07:37
the naming worked was how uh the prophet
  • 00:07:40
sallai wasam named the boys Khadijah
  • 00:07:42
named the girls and so Khadijah named
  • 00:07:45
    her Fatima who can guess
  • 00:07:49
why because guess what khadijah's mom's
  • 00:07:51
name was Fatima so her mother was Fatima
  • 00:07:56
b z so Khadijah named her after her
  • 00:08:01
mother and the word FAA has an
  • 00:08:05
interesting meaning to it so we said
  • 00:08:07
means what I'm going to keep on quizzing
  • 00:08:11
you guys on the past so you can get it
  • 00:08:13
in inshallah he said Khadijah means what
  • 00:08:15
does anyone remember what the name
  • 00:08:16
    kadijah
  • 00:08:18
means see Wanda is going through her
  • 00:08:22
notes yes where are you guys at where's
  • 00:08:25
    everyone premature premature Khadijah
  • 00:08:28
    means premature
  • 00:08:30
so and it's a very there's no one else
  • 00:08:32
named Khadijah all right so the
  • 00:08:34
indication is that she was born very
  • 00:08:36
early for her to be given the name
  • 00:08:38
Khadijah premature Fatima comes from the
  • 00:08:42
the the term ftim which is a baby that
  • 00:08:44
is full term and weaned it's like the
  • 00:08:47
opposite it's really interesting khad is
  • 00:08:49
premature Fatima is full term and weaned
  • 00:08:53
um and you know it's really you know so
  • 00:08:55
so some of the scholars or some of and
  • 00:08:57
really you're not really looking at
  • 00:08:58
Islamic scholars here looking at I was
  • 00:09:00
reading what some of the scholars of
  • 00:09:01
language said they said that it could be
  • 00:09:03
that the Arabs used this name to
  • 00:09:05
indicate a very healthy girl that a girl
  • 00:09:07
was healthy full obviously or you're
  • 00:09:09
naming after another Fatima um but that
  • 00:09:12
that's the origin of it right full term
  • 00:09:15
wean uh went through the whole process
  • 00:09:17
of uh of of being a baby but of course
  • 00:09:19
as we said in the case of Fatima it's
  • 00:09:22
after the mother of Khadijah and Abu
  • 00:09:25
says something very beautiful he said
  • 00:09:27
that uh verily Allah has weaned Fatima
  • 00:09:30
and her Offspring off from fire from
  • 00:09:34
from the fire of Janam from her birth so
  • 00:09:36
Allah has weaned her and her children
  • 00:09:39
off of that that she would not uh touch
  • 00:09:41
it or or or uh or drink from any of its
  • 00:09:44
punishments so let's go through the
  • 00:09:47
children of the Prophet wasallam right
  • 00:09:48
    quick
  • 00:09:49
    and first child is
  • 00:09:52
who you guys are going to make this so
  • 00:09:55
much longer so if you know the answer I
  • 00:09:57
suggest that you say it or if you think
  • 00:09:59
you're close you say it the first one is
  • 00:10:02
actually kasum right cuz I want you to
  • 00:10:05
get the full picture kasum was born
  • 00:10:08
around 12 years before prophethood and
  • 00:10:12
he lived for about 3 years so you know
  • 00:10:14
we know that the sons of the Prophet
  • 00:10:15
Salli wasallam died right away butum
  • 00:10:18
actually lived about 3 years so this was
  • 00:10:20
a very painful it's their first child
  • 00:10:22
and uh died of some illness uh in the
  • 00:10:26
hands of Khadijah and uh and the prophet
  • 00:10:28
Salli wasallam Zab the oldest daughter
  • 00:10:31
of the Prophet Salli wasam was born
  • 00:10:32
about 599 a year after kasum and then
  • 00:10:37
there is R Who was born about 2 years
  • 00:10:41
after that year 601 and then there's
  • 00:10:44
umum who some Scholars say is less than
  • 00:10:46
a year younger uh than R so umum is
  • 00:10:50
immediate after R and then there is
  • 00:10:53
Fatima and we said Fatima is born around
  • 00:10:56
the year 610 when the prophet Salli
  • 00:10:57
    wasam received revelation and then
  • 00:10:59
there's Abdullah who died at Birth okay
  • 00:11:03
or or very close to birth and then
  • 00:11:05
there's the last son of the Prophet who
  • 00:11:07
was born of course in Medina the only
  • 00:11:09
son not from Khadijah but from Maria and
  • 00:11:12
his name was ibraim very good okay so
  • 00:11:15
those are the seven children of the
  • 00:11:17
    Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam so
  • 00:11:19
Khadijah is the only child that actually
  • 00:11:21
grew up in Islam okay that was born and
  • 00:11:24
raised in Islam whereas the others uh
  • 00:11:27
were not what's going on in the
  • 00:11:29
household of the Prophet S at the
  • 00:11:32
time andum were both engaged when the
  • 00:11:36
    prophet sallam received Revelation does
  • 00:11:39
anyone know who they were engaged to the
  • 00:11:42
children the two sons of Abu laab that
  • 00:11:45
becomes very difficult the man who
  • 00:11:48
cursed the prophet Sall alaihi wasallam
  • 00:11:50
who stopped him and humiliated him in
  • 00:11:51
public his uncle Abu who humiliated him
  • 00:11:56
and theni who Rose to his defense that
  • 00:11:58
young child child both of the Prophet
  • 00:12:01
    alam's daughters were engaged
  • 00:12:03
    to and the children of
  • 00:12:07
ab engaged now engagements at that time
  • 00:12:10
of course would take place very early on
  • 00:12:12
these marriages were arranged very early
  • 00:12:14
on so uh you know R was only about
  • 00:12:17
sevenum was about six when you say
  • 00:12:19
engaged that just means that it's
  • 00:12:20
understood that when they come of age
  • 00:12:22
they'll be married uh they'll be married
  • 00:12:24
to these uh to these people um zanab was
  • 00:12:28
already married and her husband's name
  • 00:12:29
    anyone know
  • 00:12:32
tests so Z the oldest is married
  • 00:12:37
    to is engaged
  • 00:12:40
    to is engaged
  • 00:12:44
Tob and you just have now
  • 00:12:48
fatim when Fatima was born the prophet
  • 00:12:51
sallai wasam and again it could be the
  • 00:12:54
timing of it I mean that could have a
  • 00:12:56
lot to do with it the prophet Al
  • 00:12:59
wasallam immediately looked at her in a
  • 00:13:01
different way absolutely fell in love
  • 00:13:04
with this baby girl of his and it's so
  • 00:13:06
    much so that when Allah
  • 00:13:10
    revealed warn your closest relatives
  • 00:13:13
call out to your closest relatives and
  • 00:13:15
warn your closest relatives the prophet
  • 00:13:17
Salli wasallam stood up and he said he
  • 00:13:19
only called two people by name he said
  • 00:13:23
    sa
  • 00:13:25
sopia was the mother of uh
  • 00:13:30
okay sopia is the mother of a Zu the
  • 00:13:32
aunt of the prophet and she was very
  • 00:13:39
close the daughter of the Prophet
  • 00:13:44
sallam ask me anything that you want of
  • 00:13:47
my wealth anything that you want of my
  • 00:13:52
property I cannot testify on your behalf
  • 00:13:56
or I don't I cannot do anything for you
  • 00:13:58
with God on the day of judgment what
  • 00:14:00
that means is that you know how much I
  • 00:14:02
love you my closest and you know says
  • 00:14:05
the fact that the prophet named those
  • 00:14:07
two was for a reason sopia was his
  • 00:14:08
favorite aunt close to him and she she
  • 00:14:12
    she's she's a special Aunt to the
  • 00:14:14
prophet Salli wasallam and Fatima was
  • 00:14:17
you know this unbelievably beloved child
  • 00:14:19
to the prophet Salli wasallam so he's
  • 00:14:21
saying even you two and that's a message
  • 00:14:22
to everyone else you have a
  • 00:14:25
responsibility before Allah that is an
  • 00:14:27
individual responsibility and it is not
  • 00:14:30
something that can be bought with money
  • 00:14:31
I can't protect you you have to do your
  • 00:14:33
part and answer the call of Allah
  • 00:14:36
subhanahu wa ta and that's why when the
  • 00:14:38
prophet Salli wasallam was even asked
  • 00:14:40
when when if you remember the 40 Hadith
  • 00:14:42
on on social justice and we talked about
  • 00:14:44
this this narration where there was a
  • 00:14:46
rich woman a powerful woman that stole
  • 00:14:49
and they asked uh us to go talk to the
  • 00:14:53
prophet Sall alaihi wasall and see if he
  • 00:14:54
can let it go because she she's a very
  • 00:14:55
powerful woman and it's not right to
  • 00:14:57
    punish someone who's so powerful
  • 00:14:59
and the prophet wasam said even if
  • 00:15:01
Fatima was to steal she would be
  • 00:15:03
    punished there's no favoritism here
  • 00:15:05
because you know where Fatima is to me
  • 00:15:07
the fact that I would even punish Fatima
  • 00:15:09
I'm not going to let someone go because
  • 00:15:11
or you know not hold someone accountable
  • 00:15:13
because they're from some powerful uh
  • 00:15:16
class or because they belong to
  • 00:15:17
something uh that is that is that is
  • 00:15:19
there so there's some elements now that
  • 00:15:23
come into the household of the Prophet
  • 00:15:25
sallallahu alaihi wasallam later on fast
  • 00:15:28
    for forward to the death
  • 00:15:32
    of the mother of
  • 00:15:36
fa the wife of the Prophet sallallahu
  • 00:15:38
    alaihi
  • 00:15:39
    wasallam when Khadijah passed
  • 00:15:43
away um she was and the prophet Sall
  • 00:15:46
    alaihi wasallam would be attacked
  • 00:15:48
    because remember Khadijah died around
  • 00:15:50
the same time only 3 days apart
  • 00:15:51
According to some narrations from Abu
  • 00:15:53
Talib so the prophet would be viciously
  • 00:15:56
attacked in public at this point now he
  • 00:15:58
had no physical protection on the
  • 00:16:00
outside and when the prophet s wasam
  • 00:16:02
would come home covered in blood which
  • 00:16:04
by the way according to some of the
  • 00:16:05
scholars of s there were eight times
  • 00:16:07
that the prophet was publicly beaten
  • 00:16:10
eight times so we know of th and we know
  • 00:16:13
but eight times that something was
  • 00:16:14
thrown on him or he was punched or he
  • 00:16:16
was hit so when the prophet s is in
  • 00:16:18
public he's fair game when he comes home
  • 00:16:21
    wounded
  • 00:16:23
it's that takes the role of playing the
  • 00:16:27
role that used to play she's the one
  • 00:16:30
that really steps in and that starts to
  • 00:16:33
uh to protect the prophet sallallahu
  • 00:16:35
    alaihi
  • 00:16:37
wasallam says that Fatima would be the
  • 00:16:41
one to clean the wounds of the prophet
  • 00:16:43
wasallam and how old was she about 10
  • 00:16:45
years old think about that burden
  • 00:16:48
10-year-old girl walking up to her
  • 00:16:50
    father sallallahu alaihi wasallam having
  • 00:16:52
to clean up his wounds and and comfort
  • 00:16:54
    him
  • 00:16:55
when was missing and everyone knew
  • 00:16:59
Fatima's closeness to the prophet a
  • 00:17:01
10-year-old girl and at the age of 10
  • 00:17:05
    what was she
  • 00:17:07
nicknamed the mother of her father
  • 00:17:09
because of the Hanan the love and the
  • 00:17:11
compassion she would show to her father
  • 00:17:13
when she would see the prophet wasam
  • 00:17:15
struck it's like she was another mother
  • 00:17:18
    to the prophet sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:17:19
wasallam and one of the most painful
  • 00:17:21
    narrations the prophet Salli wasallam
  • 00:17:22
hated to see her in pain absolutely
  • 00:17:24
hated to see her in pain cuz he knew
  • 00:17:26
this is a young girl that's been exposed
  • 00:17:28
she didn't see the the days of comfort
  • 00:17:31
and ease which were really you know
  • 00:17:34
right before Prophet Hood where the
  • 00:17:36
Prophet Salli was was at the max of his
  • 00:17:37
wealth of his of his uh of his
  • 00:17:40
credibility in society she didn't have
  • 00:17:42
that childhood her childhood was all
  • 00:17:44
    oppression her childhood was witnessing
  • 00:17:46
her father rejected beaten her mother uh
  • 00:17:50
becoming frail dying due to the boycott
  • 00:17:52
she witnessed all the hardship and the
  • 00:17:55
most one of the most painful narrations
  • 00:17:57
and this was the peak of humiliation of
  • 00:17:59
    the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
  • 00:18:01
was that because now he's fair game and
  • 00:18:03
they'd kick him in public punch him in
  • 00:18:04
public humiliate him spit at him in
  • 00:18:06
    public Abu
  • 00:18:08
    jahal uh
  • 00:18:13
challenged who was a powerful man in
  • 00:18:15
Mecca and these are now the elites
  • 00:18:17
playing games with the prophet s at this
  • 00:18:19
point Abu Talib is not here we're not
  • 00:18:20
    showing him any regard
  • 00:18:22
whatsoever and the prophet s has been
  • 00:18:25
rejected from he doesn't have anyone to
  • 00:18:27
    protect him
  • 00:18:29
tells he he he challenges he says you
  • 00:18:33
really want to uh humiliate him he said
  • 00:18:36
next time he comes to the Caba because
  • 00:18:37
the prophet s would still walk to the
  • 00:18:39
Kaaba and pray even as they'd kick him
  • 00:18:41
even as they'd spit on him he'd still go
  • 00:18:43
and Pray by himself he doesn't
  • 00:18:46
have with him anymore he says to why
  • 00:18:50
don't you take the insides of a camel
  • 00:18:52
slaughter a camel and take all of its
  • 00:18:54
guts all of its intestines all of its
  • 00:18:56
nastiness collect them and the next time
  • 00:18:59
the prophet Salli wasallam is praying in
  • 00:19:00
front of the Kaa go dump them on his
  • 00:19:03
back this is just you know complete
  • 00:19:06
    humiliation right utter humiliation so
  • 00:19:10
of course he says yes and was a was a
  • 00:19:14
huge man size of Abu jahal and Omar big
  • 00:19:17
man and so he collected all of that
  • 00:19:19
filth and they they watched the prophet
  • 00:19:21
s waited for him to go into SJ into
  • 00:19:23
prostration and then he came and he
  • 00:19:25
dumped it all on the back of the Prophet
  • 00:19:27
Salli wasallam and it was so heavy on
  • 00:19:30
the back of the Prophet Salli wasallam
  • 00:19:31
that it caused his body to collapse so
  • 00:19:34
    it wasn't like just a
  • 00:19:35
    filth right complete
  • 00:19:39
    humiliation he narrates this incident
  • 00:19:41
because IB was someone that was almost
  • 00:19:43
beaten to death already next to the Caba
  • 00:19:45
we'll talk about him at some point he
  • 00:19:47
was a small man didn't have a tribe
  • 00:19:49
didn't have any protection so he goes to
  • 00:19:52
the house of the Prophet s alaihi
  • 00:19:53
wasallam to to to let the household know
  • 00:19:57
what had happened the the only one he
  • 00:19:59
    finds 10-year-old girl
  • 00:20:02
Fatima and tells Fatima that your father
  • 00:20:06
you know what what's happening to her
  • 00:20:08
father that your father's been crushed
  • 00:20:09
by these camel guts he's being
  • 00:20:11
    humiliated everyone's laughing at him
  • 00:20:13
    mocking him and
  • 00:20:16
Fa comes running out of her house to
  • 00:20:20
theam goes to the prophet wasallam
  • 00:20:23
    crying so
  • 00:20:26
heavily and scratching the guts off of
  • 00:20:29
the back of the Prophet s wasam think of
  • 00:20:31
that scene right this is the daughter of
  • 00:20:33
the woman that held him when he received
  • 00:20:36
Revelation and think about how painful
  • 00:20:38
it was for the prophet sallam right this
  • 00:20:41
is you never want to see your children
  • 00:20:43
see you like that right this is a next
  • 00:20:45
level of humiliation so and this is a
  • 00:20:48
long narration the prophet Sall alaihi
  • 00:20:49
wasallam this was one of the only times
  • 00:20:51
he actually prayed against his people
  • 00:20:54
meaning he prayed against Abu jahal made
  • 00:20:57
Dua against him it's not often that the
  • 00:20:59
prophet Sall alaihi wasallam makes Dua
  • 00:21:01
against an oppressor almost always his
  • 00:21:03
prayers are for them but he actually
  • 00:21:06
    makes Dua
  • 00:21:08
against in that moment he sees the pain
  • 00:21:12
of he Comforts her and listen what he
  • 00:21:15
    says he says don't
  • 00:21:19
cry God will support your father Allah
  • 00:21:23
will give Victory to your father don't
  • 00:21:25
cry Allah will give Victory to your
  • 00:21:27
father and it didn't calm tears so the
  • 00:21:29
prophet that's when he raised his hands
  • 00:21:31
and he prayed against Abu J and and
  • 00:21:35
those that had humiliated the prophet
  • 00:21:37
Sall alhi wasallam in front of uh his
  • 00:21:39
    father another narration uh after
  • 00:21:43
Khadijah had died where the Prophet s
  • 00:21:46
    wasallam
  • 00:21:47
sees again this is a girl that's been
  • 00:21:50
through what no girl should have to go
  • 00:21:52
through right that deeply loved her
  • 00:21:54
father witnessed that pain and he says
  • 00:21:56
    to her
  • 00:22:00
how are you oh my daughter and she
  • 00:22:04
    says I'm in
  • 00:22:11
pain sudden what's increasing my pain
  • 00:22:14
even is we don't even have food to eat
  • 00:22:17
right the prophet Salli wasallam did not
  • 00:22:18
even have food right he goes days and
  • 00:22:20
nights hungry and she's saying we don't
  • 00:22:22
have food so I'm in emotional pain and
  • 00:22:25
I'm in physical pain so the prophet
  • 00:22:27
    sallallahu alaihi wasallam responds and
  • 00:22:29
    he says uh oh my
  • 00:22:35
daughter he said oh my beautiful
  • 00:22:38
daughter aren't you pleased that you are
  • 00:22:40
the master of all women you are the
  • 00:22:42
leader of all women the women of all the
  • 00:22:44
world look at the uh the the knowledge
  • 00:22:48
    understanding of this young
  • 00:22:50
    girl she
  • 00:22:52
says she said oh my father but then
  • 00:22:55
where is Mary the mother of Jesus what
  • 00:22:57
about maram how could I be the leader of
  • 00:22:59
the women of the world what about Mar so
  • 00:23:01
    the prophet sallallah Ali wasallam
  • 00:23:12
said he said that she was the leader of
  • 00:23:14
the women of her time and in that sense
  • 00:23:17
Mariam was the best woman of her times
  • 00:23:20
and Khadijah was the best woman of her
  • 00:23:22
times so there's a difference between
  • 00:23:24
and the best woman of all time is mar
  • 00:23:28
and the best woman of her time is your
  • 00:23:29
mother khad and Fa is one of those who
  • 00:23:33
perfected her faith so two the prophet
  • 00:23:36
    sallam mentioned four women who
  • 00:23:38
perfected their faith had perfect faith
  • 00:23:41
and that was maram Asia Khadijah Fatima
  • 00:23:45
so Fatima and her mother imagine two
  • 00:23:48
woman women that had perfect um IM right
  • 00:23:52
that had perfect uh faith and some of
  • 00:23:54
the scholars they they said why Fatima
  • 00:23:58
why does she have perfect faith and not
  • 00:23:59
the other daughters of the Prophet they
  • 00:24:01
were surely beloved to the prophet but
  • 00:24:05
why and some of the scholars they they
  • 00:24:07
said number one this is a gift from
  • 00:24:09
Allah that Allah gives to people right
  • 00:24:10
this is Fatima would exert herself in
  • 00:24:12
worship and you'll see her in her life
  • 00:24:14
time she resembles the prophet s alaihi
  • 00:24:16
wasallam more than any other human being
  • 00:24:19
we'll talk about that no one resembles
  • 00:24:20
the prophet like fa she was a copy of
  • 00:24:23
the Prophet Ali wasallam and that
  • 00:24:25
translated also into her nobility her
  • 00:24:28
wor ship some of them said because she
  • 00:24:30
was born into the days of hardship and
  • 00:24:33
as opposed to her sister she she grew up
  • 00:24:36
watching her father tortured and she was
  • 00:24:37
the one playing the role of Khadijah
  • 00:24:40
    supporting the prophet sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:24:41
wasallam she spent her her uh three
  • 00:24:43
years of her childhood in the boycott
  • 00:24:45
she never saw the days of wealth like
  • 00:24:47
the other children of the Prophet
  • 00:24:49
sallallah alaihi wasallam uh she made
  • 00:24:52
the Hijra with her father so she
  • 00:24:54
actually migrated with the prophet s to
  • 00:24:56
Medina at the age of uh 13 years old and
  • 00:25:01
uh she she migrated with her sister umum
  • 00:25:05
    the prophet
  • 00:25:11
    s and's
  • 00:25:14
mother which is the wife of Abu Bakr may
  • 00:25:16
Allah be pleased with them all so they
  • 00:25:18
all migrated to Medina together so
  • 00:25:20
Fatima is attached to the prophet
  • 00:25:22
    sallallahu alhi wasallam throughout his
  • 00:25:24
most difficult days she is a woman who
  • 00:25:26
perfects her faith I mentioned the
  • 00:25:29
qualities the names does anyone remember
  • 00:25:31
from what were her other two
  • 00:25:34
    names
  • 00:25:38
f is coming some of you are going say it
  • 00:25:42
it's okay zah which means the radiant
  • 00:25:45
face she had a radiant face like her
  • 00:25:48
father when you looked at her face it
  • 00:25:50
was just full of of full of light just
  • 00:25:53
like the face of the Prophet Salli
  • 00:25:54
wasallam and also there's one more
  • 00:25:58
    someone was listening to my
  • 00:26:01
ald all right which means the one who's
  • 00:26:03
turned back to Allah speaks to her
  • 00:26:06
worship turn back to God so speaks to
  • 00:26:09
her worship speaks to her Z her
  • 00:26:11
aestheticism and her and her uh and her
  • 00:26:13
sh her nobility so anyway they get to
  • 00:26:17
Medina and now we start to see how does
  • 00:26:21
Ali and how did the Ali and FAA story
  • 00:26:23
happened by the time they migrated Ali
  • 00:26:26
was too old to live in the house of the
  • 00:26:27
prophet at that point okay because he
  • 00:26:30
he'd become old enough to where he was
  • 00:26:33
of age and so he was separated from FAA
  • 00:26:35
even though he grew up with Fatima and
  • 00:26:37
he was close to Fatima and age so they
  • 00:26:39
grew up together but had moved on and
  • 00:26:43
that's why when they got to Medina the
  • 00:26:45
prophet Salli wasallam paired him off
  • 00:26:47
with sah as as a brother and uh the home
  • 00:26:51
of kurum a man by the name of that's
  • 00:26:54
where all the young single guys stayed
  • 00:26:56
in so when they made hij all all the
  • 00:26:58
young singles went to the house
  • 00:27:02
of so when the prophet got to Medina at
  • 00:27:05
that point again Ali is grown he lives
  • 00:27:08
outside of the house of the Prophet
  • 00:27:10
Salli wasallam asked for f she still
  • 00:27:13
lives in the house of the Prophet s
  • 00:27:14
wasallam so when they're building the
  • 00:27:15
house in Medina she's there she's right
  • 00:27:18
    there with the messenger sallallahu
  • 00:27:19
alaihi wasallam and what was the love of
  • 00:27:22
the Prophet sallai was like for Fatima
  • 00:27:24
it was to a point that it used to make
  • 00:27:26
the others and the family of the prophet
  • 00:27:28
I'm a little jealous okay and was one of
  • 00:27:34
them he says that one day I was sitting
  • 00:27:37
so this is now before Ali marries Fatima
  • 00:27:40
we were in uh we're in Medina and Ali
  • 00:27:43
and sought permission Uncle of the
  • 00:27:45
Prophet sought permission to enter so
  • 00:27:48
they came in and um the prophet Sall
  • 00:27:53
asked Usama do you know why they're
  • 00:27:54
coming at this time they said no he said
  • 00:27:56
no so they came in and and they sat and
  • 00:28:00
they said to the prophet s that we've
  • 00:28:02
come to you to ask you who is the most
  • 00:28:05
beloved of your family to you we were
  • 00:28:08
    having a a
  • 00:28:09
debate trying to figure out who Do You
  • 00:28:11
Love most uh from your family now
  • 00:28:14
there's a similar narration where asked
  • 00:28:17
    the prophet
  • 00:28:18
wasam who's the most beloved of people
  • 00:28:20
to you and he said his wife and then he
  • 00:28:23
said Abu Bakr ABA right and then Omar
  • 00:28:26
here it's like very specific like from
  • 00:28:27
the family so the prophet sallallah alai
  • 00:28:30
    wasallam um he said
  • 00:28:34
um he said the most beloved of my family
  • 00:28:37
to me is Fatima my daughter that's
  • 00:28:40
really interesting because in the other
  • 00:28:42
narration when he responded to said no
  • 00:28:44
no no I mean from the men like it was
  • 00:28:47
weird for you to say that you loved your
  • 00:28:48
wife and you loved your daughter that
  • 00:28:50
much right so they had a similar
  • 00:28:52
understanding he said we're not talking
  • 00:28:54
about that we're talking about from the
  • 00:28:55
men we get you love your daughter fting
  • 00:28:57
about there's no there's no comparison
  • 00:28:59
to her and in this narration the prophet
  • 00:29:01
    Salli wasallam sees
  • 00:29:03
usn um and the prophet Sall alhi
  • 00:29:05
    wasallam
  • 00:29:11
says he said well the most beloved of of
  • 00:29:14
of the young man in my family are the
  • 00:29:17
one whom is the one who Allah favored
  • 00:29:19
    and I have favored
  • 00:29:21
Usama who was the son of the adopted son
  • 00:29:24
    of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:29:26
    wasallam who was usama's Mother
  • 00:29:29
see if someone can catch it we talked
  • 00:29:31
    about
  • 00:29:32
her good so us so the prophet was
  • 00:29:35
talking about and then the prophet s
  • 00:29:38
    wasallam
  • 00:29:39
said then he said so said to the prophet
  • 00:29:46
wasallam you made your uncle the last of
  • 00:29:48
    them and you talked
  • 00:29:51
about Ali and then you left me out I'm
  • 00:29:53
your uncle so the prophet sallallah Alam
  • 00:29:56
    said
  • 00:29:58
he said Ali made before you Ali migrated
  • 00:30:01
before you took AB some time to embrace
  • 00:30:03
Islam and to come so the prophet s
  • 00:30:05
wasallam said that what does this mean
  • 00:30:07
now what are the implications here's
  • 00:30:09
    some beautiful narrations about what
  • 00:30:11
    this would look like in
  • 00:30:13
Medina he narrates he said when the
  • 00:30:15
prophet s alai was would leave Medina
  • 00:30:17
the last person he would sit with is
  • 00:30:19
Fatima and when he returned the first
  • 00:30:22
person he would sit with was Fatima
  • 00:30:24
anytime the prophet s left Medina last
  • 00:30:27
person he's going to sit with is his
  • 00:30:28
daughter Fatima first person he's going
  • 00:30:30
to sit with when he comes back is his
  • 00:30:33
daughter Fatima AB gets more specific he
  • 00:30:38
says when the prophet Sall alaihi
  • 00:30:39
wasallam used to go on a journey or a
  • 00:30:41
battle the first thing the prophet s
  • 00:30:44
would do was he'd go to the Masjid pray
  • 00:30:46
two then he would go to the house of
  • 00:30:49
Fatima and he' take his time so it's not
  • 00:30:52
like he just kind of go sayam Alum this
  • 00:30:54
is after Fatima would move on obviously
  • 00:30:56
and get married but it just shows the
  • 00:30:58
love and the preference and then he
  • 00:30:59
would visit his spouse sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:31:02
wasallam so before he would even go to
  • 00:31:03
his aw before he even go to his wives
  • 00:31:06
    he'd go to his daughter
  • 00:31:08
fatim the last person to see before
  • 00:31:10
traveling the first person to see when
  • 00:31:13
he got back even when she got married
  • 00:31:16
that was the the place of
  • 00:31:18
Fatima and what a father the prophet
  • 00:31:21
sallam is you want a lesson in
  • 00:31:23
fatherhood just like everything else he
  • 00:31:25
sets the standard uh here's what what
  • 00:31:29
says about fa and the relationship with
  • 00:31:31
    the prophet she
  • 00:31:43
says she said I've never seen a person
  • 00:31:46
who resembled the prophet Sall alhi
  • 00:31:47
wasallam in his look in his walk in his
  • 00:31:50
guidance in his character in everything
  • 00:31:53
that he did even in his standing up and
  • 00:31:57
sitting down the way way the prophet s
  • 00:31:58
would sit down and the way he'd stand up
  • 00:32:01
Fatima looked exactly like him she acted
  • 00:32:04
exactly like him she was she was a copy
  • 00:32:06
of the prophet sallallah alaihi wasallam
  • 00:32:09
    and then
  • 00:32:13
says when she would enter into a room no
  • 00:32:15
matter what the prophet Sall was was in
  • 00:32:17
the middle of he would stand up for
  • 00:32:19
her and then he'd walk up to her and
  • 00:32:22
he'd kiss her on the forehead and then
  • 00:32:24
    he would hold her hand
  • 00:32:28
and the prophet would sit her down where
  • 00:32:30
he was sitting look at this honor and
  • 00:32:35
    she says
  • 00:32:37
    about she
  • 00:32:40
says and when the prophet would enter
  • 00:32:43
upon any Gathering or any setting that
  • 00:32:45
    she was in she would
  • 00:32:48
rush she would stand up she'd rush to
  • 00:32:51
    the prophet Salli
  • 00:32:52
wasall she'd kiss him on the forehead
  • 00:32:54
    she'd hold the prophet's hand
  • 00:32:58
she'd sit him down in the in in in in
  • 00:33:01
the in the chair or where she was
  • 00:33:02
    sitting and she adds one
  • 00:33:06
thing she would kiss both of his
  • 00:33:09
hands right that's just a special
  • 00:33:12
    relationship that everyone sees you
  • 00:33:14
    don't interfere with that
  • 00:33:16
relationship you you admire it you love
  • 00:33:19
it and this was a society where people
  • 00:33:22
used to bury their daughters alive you
  • 00:33:25
think about that right where Allah talks
  • 00:33:27
about the the way they treated their
  • 00:33:28
daughters that when they would get the
  • 00:33:30
news that they had a daughter or a girl
  • 00:33:33
uh uh you would see their their FA and
  • 00:33:35
their faces darkened and this is in that
  • 00:33:37
society that the prophet Sall alaihi
  • 00:33:39
wasallam is honoring his daughter that
  • 00:33:41
way what a father right and you can't I
  • 00:33:44
can't think of any father that does that
  • 00:33:46
for his daughter to that extent right
  • 00:33:48
and that's a lesson for all of us
  • 00:33:50
especially Subhan Allah you know it's it
  • 00:33:52
part of that part of that was certainly
  • 00:33:55
the Loyalty of the Prophet Salli
  • 00:33:57
wasallam the same way with Khadijah that
  • 00:33:58
he has to honor her because Khadijah did
  • 00:34:01
things for him that no one else did
  • 00:34:03
Fatima did things for the prophet that
  • 00:34:05
no one else did and the prophet Sall
  • 00:34:07
alhi wasallam honored that uh to to to a
  • 00:34:10
great extent so anyway Ali and Fatima
  • 00:34:13
grew up together now let's get to the
  • 00:34:17
marriage when does the marriage take
  • 00:34:20
place the Battle of bad just took place
  • 00:34:23
    they're in
  • 00:34:24
Medina there was a great incident of
  • 00:34:27
    sadness of tragedy that
  • 00:34:30
happened on the day of bad does anyone
  • 00:34:33
    know what it
  • 00:34:34
was anybody they called it the day of
  • 00:34:37
great joy and the day of great sadness
  • 00:34:38
because it was the victory of the battle
  • 00:34:40
of bed but there was a day of great
  • 00:34:41
    sadness
  • 00:34:42
too the death of R the daughter of the
  • 00:34:45
Prophet wasam R got sick before bad and
  • 00:34:49
that's why did not go to the Battle of
  • 00:34:52
bad he stayed back and he took care of R
  • 00:34:54
he took permission from the prophet
  • 00:34:55
Salli wasallam to take care of r
  • 00:34:58
and died on the same day that was won so
  • 00:35:02
while the sah are celebrating and this
  • 00:35:04
was a great Victory from Allah the news
  • 00:35:07
comes that the daughter of the Prophet
  • 00:35:08
sallai wasallam has died and that and
  • 00:35:11
that was in great sadness and they were
  • 00:35:13
sad both for the prophet Sall alaihi
  • 00:35:15
wasallam and Forman because was a very
  • 00:35:18
special and beloved person what did the
  • 00:35:21
prophet Salli wasall do after the death
  • 00:35:24
of the the possessor of two lights
  • 00:35:27
    married
  • 00:35:31
the next daughter of the Prophet
  • 00:35:32
wasallam so at this point now Z is still
  • 00:35:36
    in Mecca she's
  • 00:35:39
with was married to actually went to AB
  • 00:35:43
with passed away has moved out from the
  • 00:35:46
house and lives with uh with with with
  • 00:35:50
    her
  • 00:35:51
husband so Fatima is the last one in the
  • 00:35:54
household of the Prophet s wasallam now
  • 00:35:57
can you imag imagine if if you love The
  • 00:35:59
Prophet Sall alaihi wasallam right and
  • 00:36:01
you saw how much he loves this girl and
  • 00:36:05
she is the female version of
  • 00:36:07
him can you imagine how many people
  • 00:36:10
    wanted to marry
  • 00:36:12
Fatima so at the top of that list Abu
  • 00:36:15
Bakr and Omar both proposed for the hand
  • 00:36:18
of Fatima right both of them came to the
  • 00:36:21
prophet Sall alaihi wasallam first Abu
  • 00:36:23
Bakr and then Omar and they asked for
  • 00:36:25
her hand the prophet Sall alaihi
  • 00:36:27
    wasallam
  • 00:36:27
    [Music]
  • 00:36:29
said he said just wait give me some time
  • 00:36:32
and then the prophet s wasam said she's
  • 00:36:33
young meaning he had someone else in
  • 00:36:37
mind when the prophet s wasam turns away
  • 00:36:39
    Abu Bakr and Omar something's
  • 00:36:41
up that means he has someone else in
  • 00:36:45
mind for her right cuz you're not going
  • 00:36:47
to turn away Abu Bakr and Omar unless
  • 00:36:49
there's something special planned and of
  • 00:36:51
course Abu Bakr and Omar are closer to
  • 00:36:52
the age of the Prophet s wasallam so
  • 00:36:54
there's someone else that the prophet
  • 00:36:55
sallai wasallam has his eye on
  • 00:36:58
so uh how do we get Ali into the picture
  • 00:37:02
one of the coolest things about this
  • 00:37:04
long narration is narrated by alassan so
  • 00:37:06
it's How I Met Your Mother narrating
  • 00:37:08
from Ali Fatima how my parents met or
  • 00:37:12
how they got married right so says that
  • 00:37:17
I thought about it but I was like he
  • 00:37:21
turned away Abu bak and Omar no way I
  • 00:37:23
    have a
  • 00:37:24
chance right so whoever he's got his eye
  • 00:37:26
    on it's not me
  • 00:37:29
right thought there is no way the
  • 00:37:31
prophet wasam was thinking about uh me
  • 00:37:34
so the year is this is right after bed
  • 00:37:37
actually it's the year 622 or
  • 00:37:39
623 they're still young Ali is about 23
  • 00:37:42
ftim is about 16 years old they're still
  • 00:37:45
pretty young now marriage age was much
  • 00:37:47
younger than 16 people would get married
  • 00:37:48
    10 11 12 13 at that time right children
  • 00:37:52
are were different at the time right
  • 00:37:55
so he tells this narration he says that
  • 00:37:59
I was sitting in the household of
  • 00:38:02
someone from the family so it was like
  • 00:38:03
his aunt or an uncle one of the the
  • 00:38:05
hashimites and he said that uh the
  • 00:38:07
family started to talk to said why don't
  • 00:38:09
you go ask for the hand of Fatima he
  • 00:38:11
said particularly there was a an old
  • 00:38:14
female servant in the household we don't
  • 00:38:16
know her name from the narration but you
  • 00:38:18
    can kind of get the
  • 00:38:19
picture she said to the to you know I
  • 00:38:22
think the prophet wasallam has his eye
  • 00:38:24
    on you and
  • 00:38:28
said think you think he's going to marry
  • 00:38:30
his daughter to me if he turned away
  • 00:38:32
abak and om no way so he said she kept
  • 00:38:34
on pushing me until finally I said to
  • 00:38:39
her you think I have anything to get
  • 00:38:41
    married with I don't own anything I'm
  • 00:38:43
poor remember we talked about the
  • 00:38:45
poverty of Ali so even if I went to the
  • 00:38:47
prophet I don't even have enough for a
  • 00:38:50
Mah for a dowy for a gift for a wedding
  • 00:38:52
I can't afford anything how am I going
  • 00:38:54
to go to the prophet sallai wasallam she
  • 00:38:57
    said
  • 00:38:57
listen if you go to the prophet Salli
  • 00:39:00
wasallam he'll he'll marry his daughter
  • 00:39:02
to you so maybe she had a hint or
  • 00:39:04
whatever it is but she said he will do
  • 00:39:06
    it and then
  • 00:39:10
    says
  • 00:39:12
and one of the Chiefs in Medina they all
  • 00:39:15
encouraged me to go ask for a hand so
  • 00:39:17
meaning either the prophet confided in
  • 00:39:20
Abu Bakr and Omar that he is the one or
  • 00:39:22
they just had a feeling like he's he's
  • 00:39:24
probably got his eye on you right so
  • 00:39:27
after all of these people tell him to go
  • 00:39:30
    to the prophet sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:39:31
wasallam he said finally I gathered the
  • 00:39:34
courage to go to him to ask for a hand
  • 00:39:37
so he said I got to the house of the
  • 00:39:39
    Prophet s alai wasallam feeling
  • 00:39:42
confident I can do this imagine the pep
  • 00:39:44
talks to himself he says I sat in front
  • 00:39:47
of the Prophet Sall alaihi wasallam and
  • 00:39:48
he said I completely went silent I could
  • 00:39:50
not say a word and he
  • 00:39:54
says just out of the glory and the
  • 00:39:56
respect the love of the Prophet S I
  • 00:39:58
couldn't say a word so he says I sat in
  • 00:40:01
front of the prophet sallai wasallam and
  • 00:40:04
I stuttered a few times mumbled a few
  • 00:40:06
words and the prophet s was looking at
  • 00:40:10
me so after some time the prophet wasam
  • 00:40:16
says what brought you to me oh son of my
  • 00:40:20
uncle and who was so eloquent one of the
  • 00:40:25
most eloquent men amongst the comp
  • 00:40:27
Companions of the Prophet Salli wasallam
  • 00:40:28
he said I tried to say a few words and I
  • 00:40:30
made no sense whatsoever and I was
  • 00:40:33
    shaking sweating nervous shivering the
  • 00:40:36
prophet Salli wasallam said Do you have
  • 00:40:38
do you need something are you
  • 00:40:41
okay and he said that I still couldn't
  • 00:40:43
say anything so he said finally the
  • 00:40:45
prophet s wasallam uh he smiled at me
  • 00:40:48
    and he
  • 00:40:51
said maybe you came to ask for Fatima's
  • 00:40:54
hand he knows why He's there right so
  • 00:40:57
I'm going to make it easy for
  • 00:41:00
you he said maybe you came to ask for
  • 00:41:04
Fatima's hand in marriage so he said I
  • 00:41:07
put my head down and I said yes so
  • 00:41:09
messenger of Allah he said okay good do
  • 00:41:12
you have anything to you have a gift you
  • 00:41:14
    have
  • 00:41:16
    a said I actually don't have a I don't
  • 00:41:20
have anything to get married with so the
  • 00:41:22
prophet s pointed to his pointed to a
  • 00:41:24
shield he said you've got that right
  • 00:41:27
he said yeah Prophet s said how much is
  • 00:41:29
it worth He said about four Dirhams is
  • 00:41:32
nothing right four silver coins four
  • 00:41:35
Dirhams Prophet s said go sell it and
  • 00:41:38
come back to me and bring that as a Mah
  • 00:41:40
that's good enough for a gift Subhan
  • 00:41:42
    Allah now you
  • 00:41:44
see Fatima and then you see a whole
  • 00:41:47
community that is absolutely ecstatic to
  • 00:41:51
see this marriage of these two people
  • 00:41:52
that are so beloved to the prophet s
  • 00:41:54
wasallam so the prophet Salli wasallam
  • 00:41:56
    then went to Fatima
  • 00:41:58
    easiest proposal
  • 00:42:00
ever hardest and easiest ever right he
  • 00:42:02
said he he only had to say a total of
  • 00:42:04
    like four words walks
  • 00:42:08
out and he got it right he was the one
  • 00:42:11
that the prophet s wasallam had his eye
  • 00:42:13
on for Fatima so he goes out now the
  • 00:42:16
prophet s wasam has to go to Fatima and
  • 00:42:18
ask Fatima if she wants to marry Ali
  • 00:42:21
Fatima wanted to marry Ali but to have
  • 00:42:24
your father come and ask you at that I
  • 00:42:26
    mean the prophet
  • 00:42:27
coming to her and asking her uh saying
  • 00:42:30
    uh you
  • 00:42:31
know came and asked for your hand um are
  • 00:42:34
you okay with it right turned red
  • 00:42:38
    completely overtaken by by modesty
  • 00:42:41
couldn't say a word the prophet is
  • 00:42:43
dealing with two people that are not
  • 00:42:44
    speaking and formulating this marriage
  • 00:42:47
putting it all together right so the
  • 00:42:48
prophet s wasallam he he made sure and
  • 00:42:52
this is where the ruling actually that
  • 00:42:54
in marriage you know because the woman
  • 00:42:56
has to consent right that's one of the
  • 00:42:57
rulings right but if if you ask her and
  • 00:43:00
you're very explicit and she doesn't
  • 00:43:02
want to actually say yes but she kind of
  • 00:43:04
indicates or she St then that can uh
  • 00:43:06
suffice as her approval for the marriage
  • 00:43:09
right cuz the prophet Salli wasallam
  • 00:43:10
said do you have any objection and she
  • 00:43:13
couldn't say anything so the prophet
  • 00:43:15
sallai wasallam took that affirmed that
  • 00:43:17
her quietness was not because of
  • 00:43:19
rejection he knows his daughter but
  • 00:43:21
because of her modesty her she just
  • 00:43:23
didn't want to come out and say yes
  • 00:43:26
right so and there's a very funny uh
  • 00:43:29
narration um while they were discussing
  • 00:43:32
arrangements so now the prophet got he
  • 00:43:35
got Fatima and um this is where the the
  • 00:43:38
the uh I'm going to shatter your image
  • 00:43:39
of the sahab physical image of the
  • 00:43:41
sahaba a little bit all right so the
  • 00:43:43
    prophet was talking
  • 00:43:45
to about the marriage and was known to
  • 00:43:49
    have a big stomach surprise
  • 00:43:51
surprise big man right's biceps were
  • 00:43:56
cons the biggest B BPS amongst the they
  • 00:43:58
said that if you put two hands around
  • 00:44:00
the bicep of Ali you couldn't close your
  • 00:44:02
hands but he also had a stomach
  • 00:44:06
and joked with the prophet sallallah Al
  • 00:44:09
    wasallam she
  • 00:44:10
says you married me to the man with the
  • 00:44:13
big stomach right so the prophet
  • 00:44:15
    sallallahu alaihi wasallam laughed and
  • 00:44:17
    he
  • 00:44:23
    said beautiful description Prophet
  • 00:44:25
sallai wasallam said he was the first of
  • 00:44:27
my companions to embrace Islam the most
  • 00:44:30
    of them in
  • 00:44:32
    knowledge and he has great
  • 00:44:34
patience is is forbearance the way you
  • 00:44:37
treat people right patience with people
  • 00:44:38
so Prophet s wasall once took it as even
  • 00:44:41
though it was a joke he took it as an
  • 00:44:42
opportunity to uh to praise him and to
  • 00:44:46
speak about his uh his his character so
  • 00:44:50
anyway who says I went to the
  • 00:44:52
marketplace and I'm selling my the only
  • 00:44:54
thing I own is my shield and I'm selling
  • 00:44:57
my da he says so saw me in the
  • 00:45:01
marketplace for sale on my shield that
  • 00:45:04
    I'm selling
  • 00:45:05
my is about to be his brother-in-law
  • 00:45:07
right is married to and then so he says
  • 00:45:13
came to me and said how much are you
  • 00:45:14
selling it for he how much would you pay
  • 00:45:16
for it now he told the prophet was only
  • 00:45:18
    worth four
  • 00:45:20
Dirhams who said I'll give you 400 for
  • 00:45:23
it he's trying to make things a little
  • 00:45:25
easier for him right so said sure this
  • 00:45:29
is great right's trying to be charitable
  • 00:45:31
but hey you like it you value itman is a
  • 00:45:33
rich man he's the opposite of Ali in
  • 00:45:35
    terms of his financial circumstances
  • 00:45:37
I'll give you 400 for it so he gave him
  • 00:45:40
400 and uh said so I gave him the and
  • 00:45:44
then after he gave me the 400 Dirhams he
  • 00:45:46
handed The Shield to me and he said this
  • 00:45:48
    is my wedding gift to
  • 00:45:50
you so he got his 400 dhams from the
  • 00:45:52
marketplace and he kept his shield so he
  • 00:45:55
said I went back to the Prophet
  • 00:45:57
sallallah alai wasam and I told him what
  • 00:45:59
happened so he said the prophet S
  • 00:46:01
wasallam one of the many occasions where
  • 00:46:03
the Prophet made Dua for and he
  • 00:46:07
said may Allah be pleased with referring
  • 00:46:10
to him and he said he's the most
  • 00:46:12
    generous of
  • 00:46:13
    son-in-laws praising again the
  • 00:46:15
generosity of this was big heart always
  • 00:46:20
the first right to to spend and to when
  • 00:46:22
the prophet when he knows even that the
  • 00:46:24
prophet Salli wasallam would love to see
  • 00:46:26
    that charity the this
  • 00:46:27
is uses his wealth makes it easy
  • 00:46:31
for and then comes the wedding
  • 00:46:35
preparation said I sold some other
  • 00:46:37
things just whatever I could find
  • 00:46:40
completely emptied out my house he said
  • 00:46:42
    I had 480
  • 00:46:43
Dirhams okay and so the prophet s
  • 00:46:46
wasallam said so what's the Mahar going
  • 00:46:48
to be he said 480 Dirhams I want you to
  • 00:46:51
take a moment and think about this the
  • 00:46:53
Mahar of the queen of Jenna the leader
  • 00:46:56
of the women in Paradise is 480 Dirhams
  • 00:47:00
some people have abused this concept so
  • 00:47:03
much turned it into a price a value it's
  • 00:47:06
supposed to be a gift to symbolize a
  • 00:47:09
union it's supposed to set the tone
  • 00:47:12
foran for excellence the giftgiving of
  • 00:47:15
the husband to the wife and some people
  • 00:47:17
have abused this concept so much turned
  • 00:47:20
it into like an insurance plan or
  • 00:47:22
something like that right like 20,000
  • 00:47:24
    that's like where did this 20,000 30,000
  • 00:47:26
40,000 where does this come from right
  • 00:47:29
it's not the spirit of it is there now
  • 00:47:30
the prophet Salli wasam did not limit he
  • 00:47:33
didn't top it off but the prophet was
  • 00:47:35
said the best of M and the best of
  • 00:47:38
weddings are the ones that are the least
  • 00:47:40
expensive right there is there's bar
  • 00:47:43
    there's something beautiful and blessed
  • 00:47:45
about a simple wedding a simple Mah
  • 00:47:47
don't overdo it you know that money that
  • 00:47:50
you're spending to to to to uh show show
  • 00:47:54
every show everyone who you are and what
  • 00:47:56
you are that money will die the same
  • 00:47:58
night it will go to waste and it might
  • 00:47:59
even be sinful it might even be is it
  • 00:48:01
might even be an extravagance and then
  • 00:48:02
you could have used that money for
  • 00:48:04
something so much better right so the
  • 00:48:06
prophet s wasallam in his own example
  • 00:48:09
and that's why in in the Hani School
  • 00:48:11
many of the became their history
  • 00:48:14
right right the the is the m at the time
  • 00:48:18
of marriage right just the gift the dowy
  • 00:48:20
at the time um of marriage so this is
  • 00:48:22
the the leader of the women in Paradise
  • 00:48:27
    480 silver coins a
  • 00:48:31
few asked the prophet he said what
  • 00:48:33
should I do with it you know so it's not
  • 00:48:35
just that the prophet Salli wasallam
  • 00:48:40
said he said use two-thirds of it to buy
  • 00:48:43
her some perfume and use onethird of it
  • 00:48:45
to buy some furniture take the 480 and
  • 00:48:48
get get get it ready go get her some
  • 00:48:50
perfume go get her some furniture for
  • 00:48:52
    her house
  • 00:48:54
so this is where the community starts to
  • 00:48:56
come together now he said so I had no
  • 00:48:58
idea how to buy perfume never bought
  • 00:49:01
perfume in his life he said so went with
  • 00:49:04
    him
  • 00:49:05
and helped him buy some perfume for his
  • 00:49:10
wife and he said and I gave the
  • 00:49:13
rest we're bringing in now some heavy
  • 00:49:16
weights right some senior s this is the
  • 00:49:19
excitement of the community and I asked
  • 00:49:21
um Sal to use whatever was left to buy
  • 00:49:24
what was necessary for the bride for her
  • 00:49:26
    preparation
  • 00:49:27
the prophet s wasallam then gave some
  • 00:49:29
money to AB Bakr and he said to abak to
  • 00:49:33
buy some clothes for Ali and and then he
  • 00:49:38
sent and he said make the preparations
  • 00:49:40
for the wedding so when they went out to
  • 00:49:43
the marketplace now you got abak
  • 00:49:46
and going out shopping for their
  • 00:49:49
wedding who said I would show everything
  • 00:49:52
to Abu Bakr for approval he would
  • 00:49:53
approve it we'd buy it we came back to
  • 00:49:56
the prophet brought the stuff the
  • 00:49:57
prophet Salli wasallam made Dua for Bara
  • 00:50:00
for blessing in the few items that we
  • 00:50:05
bought says that and um were given the
  • 00:50:09
responsibility to prepare the home of
  • 00:50:13
Ali and Fatima so look at how simple
  • 00:50:15
these people are and took some mud from
  • 00:50:19
the valley they prepared it they cleaned
  • 00:50:22
it and they turned it into they said we
  • 00:50:24
made it into cushions with our hands put
  • 00:50:27
a simple cloth over it and we made it
  • 00:50:29
into cushions from our hand they took
  • 00:50:32
some dates and some uh water they placed
  • 00:50:35
a wood in the you know I hope one day we
  • 00:50:38
can actually create these simulations uh
  • 00:50:41
to show people this I know there have
  • 00:50:42
been some attempts but it just be
  • 00:50:43
beautiful to see it they put a wood in
  • 00:50:45
the corner where they could hang their
  • 00:50:47
clothes and they could uh they also had
  • 00:50:49
some hooks on the wood so that you could
  • 00:50:50
hang some of your water vessels and then
  • 00:50:53
the story of this this marriage becomes
  • 00:50:57
    in the of
  • 00:50:59
ma actually starts off with this the
  • 00:51:02
    prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
  • 00:51:03
himself made the bed how do you make a
  • 00:51:06
    bed the prophet sallallahu alaihi
  • 00:51:08
wasallam with his own hands he took Palm
  • 00:51:11
leaves uh he took wood he stuffed the
  • 00:51:16
wood with some of the Palm leaves and
  • 00:51:18
then the prophet Salli wasallam took a
  • 00:51:20
velvet cover took a pillow uh that was
  • 00:51:23
made of an animal skin filled it with
  • 00:51:26
some of the Palm fiber as well that was
  • 00:51:28
their cushioning on the inside and the
  • 00:51:30
prophet Sall alaihi wasallam left for
  • 00:51:32
them a pot and he left for them a water
  • 00:51:34
skin and he left for them couple of
  • 00:51:37
stones that they could grind grain with
  • 00:51:39
this is the making of the House of Ali
  • 00:51:41
and Fatima narrates he said we had one
  • 00:51:44
bed in our house and he said it was
  • 00:51:47
everything for us he says it was our bed
  • 00:51:49
at night it was our couch during the
  • 00:51:51
daytime and he said and we would feed
  • 00:51:53
our animals off of it and he said we
  • 00:51:55
never had a servant we never had a jaria
  • 00:51:57
in our home which is a story that we'll
  • 00:51:59
talk about next week insh as we as we
  • 00:52:01
continue so this is Subhan Allah the
  • 00:52:04
    Simplicity of that coming
  • 00:52:08
together said the best wedding I ever
  • 00:52:10
saw the best I ever saw was the wi of
  • 00:52:13
Ali and Fatima all they had was some
  • 00:52:16
barley some dates and some H H is date
  • 00:52:20
paste some uh which they eat in the
  • 00:52:23
desert and that was the wedding meal of
  • 00:52:25
    Ali and F
  • 00:52:27
and it was the happiest day that they
  • 00:52:29
remembered in Med subh seeing that
  • 00:52:31
wedding the the joy of the Prophet
  • 00:52:33
wasallam the Simplicity of this wedding
  • 00:52:35
that's setting the tone for everybody to
  • 00:52:38
how they approach these celebrations and
  • 00:52:39
how they approach their weddings uh
  • 00:52:42
finally the prophet wasam sent he
  • 00:52:48
called and some of the they bore witness
  • 00:52:51
to the wedding and the prophet sallai
  • 00:52:53
    wasallam says
  • 00:53:00
the prophet said I bear witness or you
  • 00:53:03
bear witness in front of you that I have
  • 00:53:04
married my daughter Fatima to ali uh for
  • 00:53:08
400 uh small silver uh coins for the 400
  • 00:53:12
Dirhams the first night these two people
  • 00:53:15
    who couldn't even
  • 00:53:17
talk to express their desire to marry
  • 00:53:20
one another that was a hard wedding day
  • 00:53:25
    so the prophet sallallah
  • 00:53:26
    am
  • 00:53:28
told at the he said go home and he said
  • 00:53:32
    before you're before you're intimate
  • 00:53:34
with each other he said wait for me and
  • 00:53:35
I'll come to you all right
  • 00:53:39
so said that uh I came home and he said
  • 00:53:45
brought Fatima to the house so the
  • 00:53:48
prophet sent Ali to the new house the
  • 00:53:52
    bed went home
  • 00:53:54
with and he said we we sat there and we
  • 00:53:58
just waited for the prophet s alaihi
  • 00:53:59
wasallam super nervous I mean anxious
  • 00:54:03
what's he going to say this is It's hard
  • 00:54:06
right to be the daughter the Father the
  • 00:54:08
son-in-law of the Prophet s to have him
  • 00:54:10
as your father-in-law he said so the
  • 00:54:12
    prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
  • 00:54:14
walked in um and we were both sitting
  • 00:54:18
there and they were both shaking nervous
  • 00:54:21
uh anxious the prophet Sall alaihi
  • 00:54:23
wasallam said don't stand up he told
  • 00:54:25
    them to stay there
  • 00:54:27
he took the water in their house the
  • 00:54:29
water jug this is so beautiful Subhan
  • 00:54:31
Allah he made W with the water
  • 00:54:36
Prophet then he made W Into The Jug so
  • 00:54:40
    he told to
  • 00:54:43
come came the prophet wasam poured the
  • 00:54:46
water on him and made Dua for him then
  • 00:54:49
    he sent sit down he
  • 00:54:52
    told to
  • 00:54:55
    come was
  • 00:54:57
shivering from her when the prophet
  • 00:55:00
sallam called her so the prophet Salli
  • 00:55:02
wasallam comforted her he said to her do
  • 00:55:05
not worry he said I've married you to
  • 00:55:07
the most beloved person in my family I'm
  • 00:55:09
marrying you to someone don't worry
  • 00:55:11
you're okay I'm marrying you to someone
  • 00:55:13
    special I'm marrying you
  • 00:55:15
to and the prophet made and he poured
  • 00:55:18
    water
  • 00:55:19
on he embraced her and listened to this
  • 00:55:21
beautiful Dua and we'll end with this
  • 00:55:23
inshallah what a father Subhan Allah he
  • 00:55:28
    said oh Allah bless
  • 00:55:33
them Allah bless them what in what is
  • 00:55:36
between them and upon them bless them in
  • 00:55:39
what is between them and bless them in
  • 00:55:41
    what is upon
  • 00:55:43
them and bless them in their
  • 00:55:45
offspring so the prophet sallai wasallam
  • 00:55:48
did his W he wiped the water over poured
  • 00:55:50
the water on her made that Dua for her
  • 00:55:52
and Ali and then the prophet Salli
  • 00:55:54
wasallam walked out and that was the way
  • 00:55:57
that this blessed Union uh came together
  • 00:56:00
we ask Allah subhah wa ta'ala to make
  • 00:56:02
beloved to us the prophet sallallah
  • 00:56:04
alaihi wasallam and his family and his
  • 00:56:05
companions and to allow us to be like
  • 00:56:08
    the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
  • 00:56:10
and his family and his companions to
  • 00:56:11
allow us to not just love them but to
  • 00:56:13
allow us to also manifest those
  • 00:56:15
beautiful Noble qualities that we speak
  • 00:56:17
of and we ask Allah to join us with them
  • 00:56:19
    all Allah mean
