- 00:00:19Gamers how is your September treating
- 00:00:21you man I tell you I had Big Dreams to
- 00:00:23play a whole bunch of stuff this month
- 00:00:24but to be honest Space Marine 2 got its
- 00:00:26hooks into me so deep that that is all I
- 00:00:28have had time for the review from that
- 00:00:30one is finally up link below the like
- 00:00:31button and the reason it took so long is
- 00:00:33because I just couldn't stop playing it
- 00:00:34what a chaser after the likes of
- 00:00:36astrobot couldn't be more different but
- 00:00:38the quality bar stays High love to see
- 00:00:40it I'm working on some other stuff
- 00:00:41that's under embargo right now but later
- 00:00:43this week Austin has a very big and very
- 00:00:45exciting preview drop in that I know you
- 00:00:47are going to be interested in trust me
- 00:00:49on that I can't say when it's live cuz
- 00:00:51we're not allowed to but you may want to
- 00:00:53hit that sub button and ding that
- 00:00:54notification Bell just to make sure you
- 00:00:56don't miss it anyway that's for later on
- 00:00:58but right here right now we've got some
- 00:01:00gaming news to cover so let's get to it
- 00:01:02shall we Stu do the swipe thing and
- 00:01:04let's get the show on the road last week
- 00:01:05we heard from two sources that Destiny
- 00:01:07Rising was real the reporting came from
- 00:01:10a reliable Destiny leaker and was also
- 00:01:11confirmed by Jeff grub T art it's some
- 00:01:14version of Destiny but with some notable
- 00:01:16differences one of which being that
- 00:01:17you're playing as specific Heroes as
- 00:01:19opposed to creating your own character
- 00:01:21that's all we really knew as of last
- 00:01:22week but we reached out to some sources
- 00:01:24to see what additional confirmation we
- 00:01:26could get one former Bungie employee did
- 00:01:28agree to talk to us they will keep their
- 00:01:30identity Anonymous as they're not
- 00:01:31authorized to speak on the matter they
- 00:01:33left Bungie some time ago so their
- 00:01:35information is not current but they had
- 00:01:37firsthand knowledge of the destiny
- 00:01:38mobile project and they confirmed to us
- 00:01:40that yep it's very much real they say
- 00:01:42that the project was primarily being
- 00:01:43developed by netes and only a small
- 00:01:45number of Bungee staff were actively
- 00:01:47working on it at that time apparently it
- 00:01:49is or at least it was a prequel of sorts
- 00:01:51predating the events of the first game
- 00:01:53this very much fits with the title
- 00:01:54Destiny Rising though to be fair the
- 00:01:56term Rising is the suffix of like 85% of
- 00:01:59mobile games so that's hardly definitive
- 00:02:01proof of its prequel status the game is
- 00:02:03meant to be very similar to the
- 00:02:04traditional Destiny experience but on
- 00:02:06mobile and our source tells us that that
- 00:02:08was one of the key challenges the game
- 00:02:09was facing during development as the
- 00:02:11destiny length strikes and missions
- 00:02:13don't gel with the mobile format that
- 00:02:15typically prioritizes shorter gameplay
- 00:02:17sessions encouragingly our source said
- 00:02:18that it actually plays really well and
- 00:02:20they said that it was quite far along
- 00:02:22some time ago so it's unclear why the
- 00:02:24project hasn't been at least revealed to
- 00:02:26this point I will stress that this
- 00:02:27Source left Bungie some time ago so the
- 00:02:29project could have been completely
- 00:02:30rebooted since then but this was the
- 00:02:32state of things at the time of their
- 00:02:34exit none this is particularly salacious
- 00:02:36or surprising mind you if you doubted
- 00:02:38that Destiny could be squeezed into
- 00:02:39Mobile i' wager you haven't been keeping
- 00:02:41up with the current state of mobile
- 00:02:42ports since games like Arc survival
- 00:02:44evolved or Warframe often near onetoone
- 00:02:46experiences on mobile albeit with
- 00:02:48significantly downgraded graphics and
- 00:02:50more and more AAA games are making the
- 00:02:52jump too stuff like death stranding
- 00:02:54Resident Evil 4 remake and Assassin's
- 00:02:56Creed Mirage mobile devices can more
- 00:02:58than handle a paired back Destiny
- 00:03:00experience and I for one would be
- 00:03:02interested in something like that then
- 00:03:04again the in-game spending in most
- 00:03:05mobile titles is eyew watering to say
- 00:03:08the least especially when netes is
- 00:03:09involved a lesson hard learned when we
- 00:03:11all hoped in vain that Diablo Immortal
- 00:03:13wouldn't be a complete piss take a
- 00:03:15successful mobile release would be Mana
- 00:03:17from heaven for bunge as it would allow
- 00:03:18them to bring in a new crop of players
- 00:03:20at a time when Destiny is really
- 00:03:21struggling recently the game hit its
- 00:03:23lowest ever concurrent Play account on
- 00:03:25Steam that number driven down by a
- 00:03:27pervading sense of pessimism that struck
- 00:03:29after Bungie's management made half the
- 00:03:30studio redundant canel future plans for
- 00:03:33annual expansions and rolled out a
- 00:03:34vision for the future of the game that
- 00:03:36makes it feel as though Destiny's best
- 00:03:38days are behind us one person is more
- 00:03:40bullish on the proposed changes though
- 00:03:42and that's Bungie's former lawyer Don
- 00:03:43mcgaan writing on LinkedIn in response
- 00:03:46to a Kotaku article that summarized
- 00:03:47Bungie's future content plans mwan wrote
- 00:03:50quote much though it pains me to say
- 00:03:51this it appears that Sony's inflicting
- 00:03:53some discipline on my former colleagues
- 00:03:55may have forced them to fix the things
- 00:03:56that were wrong with their game to be
- 00:03:58clear I'm not talking about the layoffs
- 00:04:00I'm talking about forcing them to get
- 00:04:01their heads out of their asses and focus
- 00:04:03on things like implementing a method of
- 00:04:05new player acquisition not just doing
- 00:04:07fan service for the fans in the Bungie
- 00:04:09sea suite and Run the game like a
- 00:04:10business good I still have friends in
- 00:04:12that environment and I'd like them to
- 00:04:13keep their jobs end quote in particular
- 00:04:15Macwan shed light on the mood in the air
- 00:04:17at the time of the Sony acquisition
- 00:04:19where Bungie leadership were insistent
- 00:04:20that Bungie would retain Independence
- 00:04:22despite a change of ownership McGowan
- 00:04:25said that that was always a fantasy
- 00:04:26quote I remember sitting there during
- 00:04:28the deal saying do you think Sony
- 00:04:29describes this as them getting to pay
- 00:04:31$3.6 billion for the right to have no
- 00:04:35input into what Bungie does that was
- 00:04:37exactly what a lot of people thought end
- 00:04:39quote either way it is a new day for
- 00:04:41Bungie as the downsize Studio Works to
- 00:04:43deliver a scaled back version of Destiny
- 00:04:45a mobile port and the all important
- 00:04:47Marathon which itself has reportedly
- 00:04:49undergone a massive reboot over the past
- 00:04:512 years owing to both testing feedback
- 00:04:53and a change in Project leadership it is
- 00:04:55very uncertain times ahead for Bungie
- 00:04:57and as someone who has a lot of
- 00:04:59affection for the studio and the games
- 00:05:00they make I genuinely hope they're able
- 00:05:02to chart a course through it from one
- 00:05:04bleed Studio to another dice has not
- 00:05:06given up on the battlefield franchise
- 00:05:07and this week we've got our first
- 00:05:09details about the next game in the
- 00:05:10series this comes courtesy of Vince
- 00:05:12sella himself the leading creative
- 00:05:14behind both Call of Duty and Titanfall
- 00:05:16back in the day and now the boss man of
- 00:05:18EA Studios Vince Albert confirmed that
- 00:05:20the next game will be in a modern
- 00:05:21setting saying quote if you look back at
- 00:05:23the peak or the Pinnacle of Battlefield
- 00:05:25it's that Battlefield 3 Battlefield 4
- 00:05:27era where everything was Modern and I
- 00:05:29think we had to get back to the core of
- 00:05:30what Battlefield is and to do that
- 00:05:32amazingly well and then we'll see where
- 00:05:34it goes from there end quote he also
- 00:05:36strongly suggested that 128 player Maps
- 00:05:38will not be returning quote did 128
- 00:05:41players make it more fun doing the
- 00:05:43number for the sake of the number
- 00:05:44doesn't make any sense we're testing
- 00:05:46everything around what's the most fun
- 00:05:48the maps once they get to a certain
- 00:05:49scale become different so we're
- 00:05:51designing something that is more akin to
- 00:05:53previous battlefields I'd rather have
- 00:05:55nice dense really nice well-designed
- 00:05:57player Spaces end quote could not have
- 00:05:59agree more 128 players was a good idea
- 00:06:01in theory but in practice it actually
- 00:06:03really sucked you know what else sucked
- 00:06:04Specialists but thankfully they're gone
- 00:06:06too quote it didn't work it didn't fit
- 00:06:09Specialists will not be coming back so
- 00:06:11classes are kind of the core of
- 00:06:13Battlefield and we're going back to that
- 00:06:14end quote Vin sella absolutely playing
- 00:06:17the hits here in this interview and you
- 00:06:18love to see it he says we will start
- 00:06:20hearing a little more about the game
- 00:06:21sometime next year and I for one I'm
- 00:06:22looking forward to that because I've
- 00:06:23always had a soft spot for Battlefield
- 00:06:25and it' be nice to see this franchise
- 00:06:27return to form hey remember how
- 00:06:28Microsoft keeps sacking star from their
- 00:06:30gaming division every few months because
- 00:06:31massive corporations would rather Bank
- 00:06:33short-term profits than invest in the
- 00:06:34long-term capabilities of their
- 00:06:35employees well they're back at it Phil
- 00:06:37Spencer this week emailed all Xbox staff
- 00:06:40to announce that some 650 people would
- 00:06:42be losing their jobs he says the cuts
- 00:06:44are mainly in the areas of corporate and
- 00:06:46support functions he said quote no games
- 00:06:49devices or experiences are being
- 00:06:51cancelled and no studios are being
- 00:06:52closed as part of these adjustments
- 00:06:54today end quote Spencer said these cuts
- 00:06:56are about aligning a postacquisition
- 00:06:58team structure this despite the fact
- 00:07:00that Microsoft assured Regulators that
- 00:07:02the acquisition of Activision Blizzard
- 00:07:03king would not result in job cuts that
- 00:07:06was always a lie of course but an easy
- 00:07:08sidestep given companies can always
- 00:07:09argue that they made cuts for this
- 00:07:11reason or that both here and in the past
- 00:07:13Phil Spencer has publicly agonized over
- 00:07:15these Cuts calling them painful but
- 00:07:17necessary so it's a little funny then
- 00:07:18that not 2 days after announcing these
- 00:07:20Cuts Microsoft announced a $60 billion
- 00:07:23stock buyback program in addition to a
- 00:07:2510% increase in their annual dividend
- 00:07:28$60 billion is just just shy of what
- 00:07:30Microsoft paid for the entirety of
- 00:07:31Activision Blizzard King and now
- 00:07:33thousands of people are losing their
- 00:07:34jobs so Microsoft can deliver a nice
- 00:07:36share price bump and dividend payout to
- 00:07:38hedge funds again never believe CEOs
- 00:07:40that tell you that Cuts Like These are
- 00:07:42necessary sometimes it's true 95% of the
- 00:07:44time it is not hey while we're on the
- 00:07:46topic of Xbox their new game pass
- 00:07:48standard tier has now launched that's
- 00:07:50the one that doesn't give you any day
- 00:07:51One new releases we all knew that was
- 00:07:53coming but what we didn't expect was
- 00:07:54that games that were previously released
- 00:07:56would also be yanked from the standard
- 00:07:58tier that's exactly what's happened a
- 00:08:00total of 40 games including the likes of
- 00:08:02Diablo I Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3
- 00:08:05Starfield and a bunch more were
- 00:08:07unceremoniously pulled from the standard
- 00:08:08offering and are now part of the more
- 00:08:10expensive tiers only that feels kind of
- 00:08:12Stingy for a company that just announced
- 00:08:14a $60 billion stock buyback but hey what
- 00:08:16do I know no word on when these games
- 00:08:18will be available on the standard tier
- 00:08:20Microsoft had previously said that we're
- 00:08:21looking at a 12-month window but both
- 00:08:23Diablo 4 and Starfield have now been out
- 00:08:25for more than 12 months and they still
- 00:08:27got the chop so who knows what to expect
- 00:08:29here's a really weird story you know
- 00:08:30anera interactive one of the best Indie
- 00:08:32labels working right now with an
- 00:08:33exceptional eiha quality and the
- 00:08:35willingness to back risky bets well all
- 00:08:37of their staff just resigned like every
- 00:08:40single one of them this reporting comes
- 00:08:41courtesy of Bloomberg aner interactive
- 00:08:44is a subsidiary of anapon studio and
- 00:08:46apparently the staff they have been
- 00:08:48negotiating to spin the video game
- 00:08:49publishing label off into a separate
- 00:08:51entity these negotiations fell through
- 00:08:53and as a result the senior leadership
- 00:08:54and all staff a total of 25 people
- 00:08:57tended their resignation to anera Studio
- 00:08:59boss Megan Ellison the staff issued a
- 00:09:01joint statement that reads as follows
- 00:09:03quote all 25 members of the anera
- 00:09:05interactive team collectively resigned
- 00:09:07this is one of the hardest decisions
- 00:09:08we've ever had to make and we do not
- 00:09:10take this action lightly end quote while
- 00:09:12Ellison's statement suggests that she
- 00:09:13plans to press on and rebuild the
- 00:09:15company quote our top priority is
- 00:09:17continuing to support our developer and
- 00:09:19Publishing Partners during this
- 00:09:20transition we're committed to not only
- 00:09:22our existing slate of games but also
- 00:09:24expanding our presence in interactive
- 00:09:26space as we continue to look for
- 00:09:27opportunities to take a more integrated
- 00:09:29approach to linear and interactive
- 00:09:30storytelling across film and TV gaming
- 00:09:32and theater end quote and look to be
- 00:09:34clear the kind of people who know how to
- 00:09:36pick games like OU of Wilds cocoon
- 00:09:39laurelai and the laser rise and Kentucky
- 00:09:40Route Zero don't grow on trees you can't
- 00:09:43just replace taste makers like that
- 00:09:45doesn't work that way so I predict very
- 00:09:47dire times ahead for aner interactive
- 00:09:49fingers cross the projects they're
- 00:09:50currently shepherding will see a release
- 00:09:52and thankfully a number of those
- 00:09:53projects have already issued statements
- 00:09:55saying that development continues
- 00:09:56despite this disruption a quick
- 00:09:58lightning round to finish off Flappy
- 00:09:59Bird is back in POG form no but it may
- 00:10:02be in crypto form this is kind of a long
- 00:10:04story but the Flappy Bird trademark was
- 00:10:06abandoned by the original games Creator
- 00:10:08dong Newan this is after he famously
- 00:10:10delisted the game from App Stores saying
- 00:10:12that I just can't take it anymore after
- 00:10:14the intense popularity of Flappy Bird
- 00:10:16kind of took over his life the trademark
- 00:10:18lapsed and because he didn't contest a
- 00:10:20new claim to it he was snapped up by a
- 00:10:22company called game Tech Holdings a
- 00:10:24company led by a person with extensive
- 00:10:26ties to the crypto and nft scene the
- 00:10:28blurb for this new newly released Flappy
- 00:10:30Bird game hints at like web 3.0
- 00:10:32and pay to earn so you can guess which
- 00:10:35way this is going to go dong Newan has
- 00:10:36since resurface to confirm that this
- 00:10:38project has nothing to do with him and
- 00:10:39that he does not support crypto
- 00:10:42much respect to him ascended Studios
- 00:10:44released the very very ill- faded
- 00:10:46Immortals of AVM last year and it sold
- 00:10:48so poorly that the majority of staff
- 00:10:49were either laid off or fured it was
- 00:10:51rough because the game wasn't terrible
- 00:10:53it just wasn't great and nowhere near
- 00:10:55good enough to justify that $70 price
- 00:10:57tag luckily some members of the studio
- 00:10:59have found a life raft in a very
- 00:11:01unlikely savior Dan Hower of Rockstar
- 00:11:03and GTA Fame he's formed a new studio
- 00:11:06called absurd Marin and that studio will
- 00:11:08employ 20 former ascended Studios
- 00:11:10employees and be led by former ascended
- 00:11:13boss Brett Robbins obviously a bunch of
- 00:11:15people are still out of the job but this
- 00:11:16is better than nothing wishing this team
- 00:11:18the very best as they begin work on what
- 00:11:19they say is a quote story-driven action
- 00:11:22adventure title set in another as yet
- 00:11:23unannounced absurd universe end quote
- 00:11:26remember how Unity basically burned
- 00:11:28every bit of Goodwill they had with that
- 00:11:29runtime fee thing that resulted in the
- 00:11:31resignation of the CEO while they
- 00:11:33walking that back over a year later it
- 00:11:35turns out that whole thing was for
- 00:11:36nothing and the companies announced that
- 00:11:38they will not proceed with that runtime
- 00:11:39fee and will look to increase fees
- 00:11:41elsewhere to shore up their margins
- 00:11:43great job John rello another trophy on
- 00:11:45your illustrious cabinet of baffling and
- 00:11:46value destroying decisions some rare
- 00:11:48good news Tony Hawk and Activision are
- 00:11:50in each other's DMS speaking of mythical
- 00:11:53kitchen Tony Hawk himself said quote I
- 00:11:55wish I could tell you more but I can
- 00:11:57tell you that I've been talking to
- 00:11:58Activision again we're working on
- 00:12:01something end quote more remasters
- 00:12:04question mark a brand new entry maybe we
- 00:12:06are getting a new skate game next year
- 00:12:08so hey maybe we can dream of the
- 00:12:09Birdman's return a big win for the stop
- 00:12:12killing games movement led by our csed
- 00:12:14Farms Ubisoft has announced that both
- 00:12:16the crew one and two will be getting in
- 00:12:18offline mode meaning that the games will
- 00:12:20be playable even without Ubisoft hosting
- 00:12:22dedicated servers that's exactly what a
- 00:12:24cursed Farms wanted and he put out a
- 00:12:25statement acknowledging the success of
- 00:12:26his movement in affecting this outcome
- 00:12:28quote hopefully this is in response to
- 00:12:30Consumer agencies in multiple countries
- 00:12:32investigating the legality of them
- 00:12:33disabling the crew one which was sold as
- 00:12:35a one-time purchase with no stated
- 00:12:37expiration date end quote FS cross those
- 00:12:39investigations continue because if a
- 00:12:41game like Concord can vanish in 2 weeks
- 00:12:44and be rendered immediately unplayable
- 00:12:45after four years of development work
- 00:12:47obviously the industry is not thinking
- 00:12:48hard enough about how to not only
- 00:12:50protect consumers rights but also
- 00:12:51preserve the work of game makers EA has
- 00:12:53confirmed that respawn a hard work on a
- 00:12:55third and final Jedi game marking the
- 00:12:57end of the trilogy please God let the PC
- 00:13:00port for this one be something other
- 00:13:01than a total Abomination and finally
- 00:13:04Australia has updated its video game
- 00:13:05classification ratings the biggest
- 00:13:07changes relate to things like loot boxes
- 00:13:09and gambling both real and simulated
- 00:13:11basically if a game has real gambling in
- 00:13:13it it's r18 plus restricted fair enough
- 00:13:16if it has simulated gambling in it but
- 00:13:18no monetary reward then that also gets
- 00:13:21an r18 plus rating this means if a game
- 00:13:23has a casino style miname in it that's
- 00:13:2518 plus only okay if it has loot box
- 00:13:29like mechanics in it AKA actual gambling
- 00:13:32then the game gets an M15 plus rating
- 00:13:35which is just a recommendation meaning
- 00:13:37that kids can still buy them over the
- 00:13:39counter without a parent or guardian's
- 00:13:41consent fake gambling no no no real
- 00:13:44gambling a okay the Australian
- 00:13:46classification board has long been the
- 00:13:47most laughable entity in the world
- 00:13:49responsible for classifying video games
- 00:13:51it is nice to know they'll hold on to
- 00:13:53that mantle a little while longer so
- 00:13:54what got announced or delayed this week
- 00:13:56well a while back Atlas announced a new
- 00:13:58Persona 5 game but don't get too excited
- 00:14:00because it's a mobile game it's called
- 00:14:02Persona 5 the phantom X and while it
- 00:14:04looks a lot like Persona 5 it follows a
- 00:14:06new group of characters and it was
- 00:14:07designed as a free-play mobile RPG so
- 00:14:10yeah it comes with all the stuff you'd
- 00:14:11expect from that genre but Atlas is
- 00:14:12holding a big announcement event for it
- 00:14:14on the 25th of September at Toyo game
- 00:14:16show where they'll probably detail its
- 00:14:17Japanese release and maybe a worldwide
- 00:14:19one too with the core Persona team
- 00:14:21working on metaphor reantaso this is
- 00:14:23probably the closest we're going to get
- 00:14:24to Persona 6 for a little while yet one
- 00:14:27like equals one prayer that the game
- 00:14:29economy doesn't suck ass but I'm not
- 00:14:31holding that much on speaking of
- 00:14:32predatory free-to-play mobile spin-offs
- 00:14:34based on beloved Sega franchises Sega
- 00:14:36has trademarked yaka Awards a little
- 00:14:38while back and now the game has been
- 00:14:39revealed via an official Facebook page
- 00:14:41it appears to be one of those gangster
- 00:14:43management mobile game things with the
- 00:14:45Yakuza theme though a lot of Yakuza Die
- 00:14:47Hard fans are taking as a isue with the
- 00:14:48oddly clean character art with some of
- 00:14:51them going so far as to speculate that
- 00:14:52it's AI generated no proof of that of
- 00:14:55course probably not the Yakuza game that
- 00:14:57people were hoping for sticking with
- 00:14:59Tokyo game show announcements a little
- 00:15:00while longer power world for PS5 hasn't
- 00:15:02been officially announced yet but Outlet
- 00:15:04gatu spotted the game on the exhibitor
- 00:15:06list for Tokyo game show which suggests
- 00:15:08that it will be there in some capacity
- 00:15:10though take that with a grand of salt
- 00:15:11for now moving to Western Shores gunfire
- 00:15:13games announced their third and final
- 00:15:15piece of DLC for Remnant 2 it's called
- 00:15:17the dark Horizon it features all kinds
- 00:15:19of aliens and robots and it's releasing
- 00:15:20on September 4th for only 10 bucks
- 00:15:22alongside a free update for all players
- 00:15:24Austin actually had a chance to check
- 00:15:26out this one early and he really liked
- 00:15:27what he saw he delivers new class as
- 00:15:29well as a one-hot mode that allows you
- 00:15:31to experience all the Game's new content
- 00:15:33without having to rerun it multiple
- 00:15:34times though of course you can still do
- 00:15:36that if you want to gunfire says this is
- 00:15:37their largest DLC so far bigger than the
- 00:15:40two before it and a nice way to cap off
- 00:15:42it was a truly great game one that flew
- 00:15:43a little below the radar last year given
- 00:15:45how many heavy heaters were crowding it
- 00:15:47out we got a release date for Planet
- 00:15:48coaster 2 this week and it's coming on
- 00:15:50November 6th planet coaster 1 was of
- 00:15:52course excellent and the sequel's big
- 00:15:53new thing is Water Park attractions
- 00:15:56let's hope that we don't get another
- 00:15:57city skylines 2 situation because I
- 00:15:59don't think City Builder fans can take
- 00:16:00another disaster like that one and
- 00:16:02finally speaking of '90s game revivals a
- 00:16:04new common San Diego game was just
- 00:16:06announced last week the reboot is based
- 00:16:08on the Netflix series so you'll be
- 00:16:09playing as kmen instead of trying to
- 00:16:11ccher and it looks to be incorporating a
- 00:16:12whole bunch of actual spy gameplay on
- 00:16:14top of the geography and edutainment
- 00:16:17this one is being developed by Game Loft
- 00:16:18in Brisbane an Aussie Studio who's
- 00:16:20responsible for Reviving the Oregon
- 00:16:22Trail which seems to be a pretty big
- 00:16:24part of every American's youth it also
- 00:16:25explains why one of the game's exotic
- 00:16:27locations next to Tokyo Cairo and ruic
- 00:16:31is Brisbane Australia or as we like to
- 00:16:33call it bris Vegas it's a whole thing
- 00:16:35trust me just one delay announcement
- 00:16:37this week and it's for tals of the Shire
- 00:16:39the Lord of the Rings life simulator
- 00:16:40being made by wther Workshop that one
- 00:16:42was due sometime this year but it's now
- 00:16:43been pushed back into early 2025 not
- 00:16:45much else to say about that one so what
- 00:16:47came out last week well a lot of great
- 00:16:49Indies apparently I am your Beast is
- 00:16:51that speedrunning shooter that we
- 00:16:52featured and put this on your radar a
- 00:16:54little while back and it's the fourth
- 00:16:55game to be delivered by Indie Studio
- 00:16:57strange scaffold in the space of just a
- 00:17:00year really don't know how they can
- 00:17:01possibly keep up that pace without
- 00:17:02killing themselves but I hope they all
- 00:17:04enjoy a well-earned holiday soon because
- 00:17:06reviews for this one on Steam are
- 00:17:07overwhelmingly positive with over 550
- 00:17:09reviews counted and a strong open critic
- 00:17:11score of 79 polygon doesn't give scores
- 00:17:14but they did say quote every now and
- 00:17:15then an action game comes along that
- 00:17:17achieves the perfect gameplay Loop think
- 00:17:19Hotline Miami or super hot I am your
- 00:17:21Beast has the honor of joining that
- 00:17:22prestigious Gallery the latest title
- 00:17:24from strange scaffold is an instant
- 00:17:26classic the kind of game that demands
- 00:17:27your attention and reward rewards it
- 00:17:29with sweet sweet serotonin end quote
- 00:17:31Edmund also reviewed this one over on
- 00:17:33the patreon and among other things he
- 00:17:34said quote I am your Beast succeeds
- 00:17:36because in the 45 seconds it takes you
- 00:17:38to finish most of its stages it makes
- 00:17:40every little action you take feel like a
- 00:17:41momentous shocking event or an
- 00:17:43unbelievable show of Mastery somehow
- 00:17:45conjured up from your own two hands end
- 00:17:47quote I'm going to go and Limon say that
- 00:17:48Edmund is a fan of this one I'll drop a
- 00:17:50link to that right up in the description
- 00:17:51below if you'd like to read the whole
- 00:17:52thing it's free to read for everyone
- 00:17:54Caravan sandwich is another game we
- 00:17:56featured on put this on your radar last
- 00:17:57week in fact this is the open world
- 00:17:59exploration game with a van and a cozy
- 00:18:01postapocalypse with no combat and it
- 00:18:03seems to have landed in that not bad
- 00:18:05bucket which is okay it's very positive
- 00:18:07on Steam but the open critic is a little
- 00:18:09low at 66 Rock Paper Shotgun said of it
- 00:18:11quote the S thought and craft gone into
- 00:18:13how to create an experience that's a
- 00:18:15genuinely relaxing Pleasant place to
- 00:18:17spend time in while still being Nifty
- 00:18:19and satisfying as a mini open world game
- 00:18:21it's a nice time and quote that score is
- 00:18:23dragged down by a number of four out of
- 00:18:2510 reviews though that just couldn't
- 00:18:27jive with the gameplay side of things
- 00:18:28like that from game lter who said of it
- 00:18:30quote amazing visuals can't save this
- 00:18:32game from its boring gameplay dull
- 00:18:34characters and Myriad of design problems
- 00:18:36end quote desper 66 is that cyber Punk
- 00:18:38running game from sumo digital who did
- 00:18:40Sonic and Sega Allstar Racing it's got a
- 00:18:42strong open critic score of 83 but there
- 00:18:44actually aren't too many reviews up for
- 00:18:46this one over on Steam it's got a very
- 00:18:48positive rating and a lot of the reviews
- 00:18:49are saying that if you like arcad races
- 00:18:51this is probably your jam but there are
- 00:18:52some problems with the small player base
- 00:18:54at launch which makes it a little tough
- 00:18:55to get stuff done maybe look at this one
- 00:18:57a little more closely if you're at all
- 00:18:59interested yet another put this on your
- 00:19:00radar Pig do we ever steer you wrong I
- 00:19:02don't think so it's hollow body the PS2
- 00:19:05survival horror throwback that's aping
- 00:19:06Classics like Silent Hill back when it
- 00:19:08was good there's a big range of opinions
- 00:19:09on this one which has left its open CR
- 00:19:11score at a strong 78 and its Steam
- 00:19:13Reviews at a very positive rating vg247
- 00:19:16loved this one scoring at five stars and
- 00:19:17saying quote the dedication to various
- 00:19:19cult classic horror and sci-fi games
- 00:19:21only adds to how aabed I was with the
- 00:19:23game this is how you make a game heavily
- 00:19:24inspired by other media while making a
- 00:19:27whole new experience entirely in in a
- 00:19:28nutshell end quote on the other side of
- 00:19:30the spectrum CGM said quote the problem
- 00:19:33is hollow body doesn't seem to know what
- 00:19:34it wants to be if it had committed to
- 00:19:36one single style one source of
- 00:19:38inspiration it could have been really
- 00:19:40interesting instead it's a mish mash of
- 00:19:42ideas that conflict with each other and
- 00:19:43make the game mediocre at best and
- 00:19:45mind-numbingly boring at worst end quote
- 00:19:47ouch in the middle though you got
- 00:19:49Gamespot who gave this one a good old
- 00:19:50seven out of 10 divisive games are often
- 00:19:52the most interesting ones so if you're a
- 00:19:54survival horror fan do check this one
- 00:19:55out the remaster of Lollipop Chainsaw
- 00:19:58came out but enough Outlets of reviewed
- 00:19:59to give it an open critic score yet on
- 00:20:01Steam the reviews are very positive with
- 00:20:03around 700 reviews counted the pure Xbox
- 00:20:05did note some big technical issues and
- 00:20:07bugs before awarding it a 6 out of 10
- 00:20:09and some of the reviews on Steam are
- 00:20:10saying the same thing about the PC Port
- 00:20:12digital Foundry are also really down on
- 00:20:15it at least according to their most
- 00:20:16recent tweets so maybe wait until after
- 00:20:18they address some of these issues if
- 00:20:19this is on your wish list Marvel vs
- 00:20:21Capcom fighting collection is the
- 00:20:22package that collects all the '90s
- 00:20:23Marvel fighting games as well as the
- 00:20:25Punisher beat them up and unsurprisingly
- 00:20:27it's had a rather excellent reception
- 00:20:29with a mighty 86 on open critic there
- 00:20:31isn't much to say about these games that
- 00:20:32hasn't already been said before but
- 00:20:33they're excellent reproductions and some
- 00:20:35of the bonus features are very nice and
- 00:20:37apparently that Punisher game is just
- 00:20:38like an all-timer that's why the likes
- 00:20:40of Nintendo life gave it a 9 out of 10
- 00:20:42saying quote perfectly preserved and
- 00:20:43presented everything is beautifully
- 00:20:45formed and wonderful to play assembled
- 00:20:47with real Clarity in regards to Fan
- 00:20:48expectation Capcom has thoroughly
- 00:20:50delivered the goods end quote one thing
- 00:20:52to note is that there's some pretty
- 00:20:53funny stuff happening in the Steam
- 00:20:54Reviews for this one but we'll save that
- 00:20:56one for later in the show wild B bards
- 00:20:58is you guessed it another one we
- 00:21:00featured on put this Ono radar the new
- 00:21:02strategy shoot a rogue like from the
- 00:21:03former Bioshock developers who made void
- 00:21:05bastards this one landed at an open
- 00:21:07critic of 74 with some really big swings
- 00:21:10between the highs and lows when it comes
- 00:21:11to review scores Games Radar for example
- 00:21:13scored at a four out of 10 saying quote
- 00:21:15it's not much of a standout amidst
- 00:21:17others in the genre end quote the PC
- 00:21:19Gamer gave it a 91 out of 100 which is
- 00:21:22very high for them saying quote the Rog
- 00:21:25likee and FPS genres haven't been
- 00:21:27spliced so successfully since death Loop
- 00:21:29and wild bastards deserves just as much
- 00:21:32a claim end quote not sure that I agree
- 00:21:34with that death Loop call out personally
- 00:21:37if you want to see a successful splicing
- 00:21:38of Rogue like an FPS go play prey Moon
- 00:21:41crash but I've already said that 300
- 00:21:42times so you probably don't want to hear
- 00:21:43it at 300th and first Edmond also played
- 00:21:46this one for quite some time after
- 00:21:47interviewing the devs for a patreon
- 00:21:49write up last week and he really enjoyed
- 00:21:50himself as well here's what he had to
- 00:21:52say quote once you really get into the
- 00:21:53meat of void bastards the interwoven
- 00:21:55strategy character management and Rog
- 00:21:57likee elements start feeding into the
- 00:21:59FPS sections in a big way and things
- 00:22:01really start to sink the combat is high
- 00:22:03stakes and requires lots of creativity
- 00:22:04and improv depending on what's happening
- 00:22:06between your crew which makes even the
- 00:22:07worst situations interesting to play
- 00:22:09through kind of like a good immersive
- 00:22:11Sim also it's really funny end quote if
- 00:22:13you'd like to read that right up on the
- 00:22:14patreon I'll leave a link to that one as
- 00:22:16well again free to all not behind a pay
- 00:22:18wall Funko Fusion also came out and as
- 00:22:20many of us begrudgingly guessed it's not
- 00:22:23too good with a weak open critics score
- 00:22:25of 54 but a lot of reformed Funko Pop
- 00:22:27collectors are trying to have at least a
- 00:22:28little bit of fun with it BGC for
- 00:22:30example gave it three out of five stars
- 00:22:31and said quote Funko Fusion is fun to
- 00:22:33play and it's TT games Lego series
- 00:22:36ancestry is clear to see but it's
- 00:22:38frequent backtracking it's slightly offc
- 00:22:40comedy and the way some franchises get
- 00:22:41less love than others mean the fun is
- 00:22:43often experience with an asterisk it's
- 00:22:45worth a play so long as you don't mind
- 00:22:47collectons and replaying levels end
- 00:22:49quote meanwhile games Hub gave it the
- 00:22:51same score and said quote sometimes a
- 00:22:53game can be fun without being good and
- 00:22:55Funko fits that description quite nicely
- 00:22:58end quote talk about damning with faint
- 00:23:00praise the Final Fantasy 16 PC Port just
- 00:23:02launched as I was wrapping up the script
- 00:23:04and there aren't any reviews for that
- 00:23:05one just yet so we'll have to wait a
- 00:23:07little longer for the likes of digital
- 00:23:08Foundry to give us the all clear on the
- 00:23:09quality of the port and finally some 2
- 00:23:12years after its initial reveal the
- 00:23:13Plucky Squire is here it launched just a
- 00:23:15few hours ago and unsurprisingly if
- 00:23:17you've been watching my preview coverage
- 00:23:19it's really excellent a mighty 85 onop
- 00:23:21critic is nothing to sneeze at Euro
- 00:23:23gamer scored a 4 out of five and said
- 00:23:25quote an ingenious puzzle platformer
- 00:23:27that takes players from a children's
- 00:23:28book and out into the wider world around
- 00:23:30it end quote but I were a little more
- 00:23:32muted in their praise scoring at a seven
- 00:23:34and saying quote The plugy Squire is a
- 00:23:36beautiful story book adventure filled
- 00:23:37with brilliant word playay pack puzzles
- 00:23:39and clever Dimension hopping mechanics
- 00:23:41but it drags on a bit too long after
- 00:23:42it's already used up all of its best
- 00:23:44ideas end quote Austin reviewed this one
- 00:23:46as well and tldr he really enjoyed it
- 00:23:48but he did feel as though it fell a
- 00:23:49little short of its potential in that
- 00:23:51many of its ideas and mechanics didn't
- 00:23:53have quite the same charm that its art
- 00:23:54and 2D 3D perspective did definitely a
- 00:23:57worthwhile pickup for fans of adventure
- 00:23:58games but this one isn't quite at the
- 00:24:00level of like an astrobot or a Zelda or
- 00:24:02anything like that just a nice time so
- 00:24:04long as you set your expectations at the
- 00:24:05right level especially if you've got
- 00:24:06kids if you want to hear more about it
- 00:24:08I'll leave a link to Austin's full
- 00:24:09review below the like button so what's
- 00:24:11coming out this week well Thursday the
- 00:24:1219th is a big day with plenty of stuff
- 00:24:14dropping stuff like the Dead Rising
- 00:24:16Deluxe remaster the full remake of
- 00:24:18capcom's other zombie franchise the one
- 00:24:19that doesn't take itself too seriously
- 00:24:21the original 2006 gameplay is largely
- 00:24:23intact for this one which includes the
- 00:24:253-day timer to keep the pressure on but
- 00:24:27it's also got modern features you know
- 00:24:28Autos saving and shooting while moving
- 00:24:31this one's headed to all platforms by
- 00:24:32switch also on the 19th is another
- 00:24:34remaster Broken Sword shadow of the
- 00:24:36Templar reforged which is a classic '
- 00:24:3990s Adventure game that's had a 4K
- 00:24:40visual overhaul that one has coming to
- 00:24:42every platform including Mac actually
- 00:24:44spoke to a friend of mine who's a sucker
- 00:24:45for these sorts of games and he says the
- 00:24:46Remake is in very good shape which
- 00:24:48bodess well for reviews which will be
- 00:24:49dropping soon no doubt we'll Circle back
- 00:24:51to that one in the review round up next
- 00:24:53week God of War Ragnarok is making its
- 00:24:55PC debut on the 19th and it's being
- 00:24:57handled by jetpack interactive who took
- 00:24:59care of the first God of War PC Port
- 00:25:01that one launched in a pretty good state
- 00:25:02so hopefully this one will too man it
- 00:25:04really feels like there hasn't been much
- 00:25:05marketing for this I feel like Horizon
- 00:25:07and ghost of Socia both had a lot more
- 00:25:09marketing span behind them before they
- 00:25:10arrived I wonder if Sony finding
- 00:25:12themselves a little overwhelmed between
- 00:25:14all this bungee Concord and PS5 Pro
- 00:25:16noise copycat is another game we
- 00:25:18featured on put this on your radar and
- 00:25:19it's out on the 19th this is the
- 00:25:21australian-made indie game that follows
- 00:25:23a shelter cat as it finds a new home
- 00:25:24with a kind elderly woman only to then
- 00:25:27be completely replaced by by a stray cat
- 00:25:29and left off fend for herself the cat
- 00:25:31that is not the odd lady there's been a
- 00:25:32few cat games lately but this one is
- 00:25:33pulling on all the emotional
- 00:25:35heartstrings at once this one has coming
- 00:25:36exclusive to PC Frost Punk 2 is out on
- 00:25:39the 20th for PC and this is the sequel
- 00:25:41to the city Builder survival strategy
- 00:25:43game where you keep people alive during
- 00:25:44an apocalyptic Winter by making
- 00:25:46questionable moral decisions this one
- 00:25:48expands the idea with more opportunities
- 00:25:50but also more problems the first one was
- 00:25:52an instant classic so he's hoping the
- 00:25:53sequel can live up to that very high bar
- 00:25:55Karate Kids Street Rumble is throwing
- 00:25:57Daniel Son and Miyagi into a retro four
- 00:26:00player beat him up format that covers
- 00:26:01the first two 80s films and they're
- 00:26:03joined by Ali Mills and Kumiko who are
- 00:26:05just as good as beaten up Cobra Kai as
- 00:26:07anybody else there have been a bunch of
- 00:26:08these retro beat them UPS lately and
- 00:26:10many of them have actually been pretty
- 00:26:11good fingers cross this one is too this
- 00:26:12one is out on all platforms tiny Glade
- 00:26:15is that cozy Castle Building game that
- 00:26:17absolutely exploded on Tik Tok it's
- 00:26:18currently one of the most wishlisted
- 00:26:20games on Steam as a result which is
- 00:26:22certainly help with its launch Day sales
- 00:26:24it's literally just about building cute
- 00:26:26castles but hey unpacking was a game
- 00:26:27entire about unpacking boxes and placing
- 00:26:30stuff in your room and power watch
- 00:26:31simulator is literally just spraying
- 00:26:33stuff with a high powerered hose so you
- 00:26:35can never judge how people get their
- 00:26:36kicks jumping over to next Tuesday the
- 00:26:3824th we've got Epic Mickey rebrush which
- 00:26:40is yet another remaster this is the
- 00:26:42Mickey platforming game that was
- 00:26:43designed by DSX Creator Warren Spectre
- 00:26:45and was an exclusive to the Wii THQ
- 00:26:47Nordic have pulled this one out of the
- 00:26:48archives and have given it a refresh for
- 00:26:50every platform it's looking lovely and
- 00:26:52given the cult classic status of this
- 00:26:53title it's nice to see it getting the
- 00:26:54remaster love greedall to the dying
- 00:26:57world is entering ing Early Access on
- 00:26:59Steam on Tuesday which will consist of
- 00:27:01just the beginning part of the game this
- 00:27:03is the sequel to the 18th century RPG
- 00:27:05that was riffing on BioWare style and
- 00:27:08yeah look I'm not sure about this one I
- 00:27:10was not at all impressed when I played
- 00:27:12it at Summer Games firstest earlier this
- 00:27:13year and a couple of weeks ago the
- 00:27:15developers actually went on strike to
- 00:27:17protest against alleged mismanagement
- 00:27:19among other concerns at the studio so
- 00:27:22things don't seem to be going too great
- 00:27:23for greed Fall 2 still we'll check back
- 00:27:25in on the reviews next week to see how
- 00:27:27it goes I would not recommend
- 00:27:29pre-ordering this one just just just
- 00:27:30wait to see the reviews also out in
- 00:27:32Early Access this week is witchfire
- 00:27:34which finally makes the jump to steam
- 00:27:35after being an epic exclusive for the
- 00:27:37past year Austin reviewed this one back
- 00:27:38then and while he couldn't recommend it
- 00:27:40owing to a lack of content and polish he
- 00:27:42was very bullish about where it would
- 00:27:43eventually end up since then the game
- 00:27:45has undergone significant revision and
- 00:27:47has been massively expanded upon and
- 00:27:48it's getting another huge update just in
- 00:27:50time for its arrival on Steam if you
- 00:27:52like Shooters like Destiny or Remnant
- 00:27:54From the Ashes then I really recommend
- 00:27:55checking this one out as it's likely
- 00:27:57going to ring your bell it's out on the
- 00:27:5824th exclusive to PC for the moment and
- 00:28:01finally we've got ARA history Untold
- 00:28:03coming to PC this is Xbox game studios's
- 00:28:05attempt at a historical Forex strategy
- 00:28:07game like Civilization it's being
- 00:28:09developed by the studio that did ashes
- 00:28:10of Singularity which was apparently not
- 00:28:12great but they've had the better part of
- 00:28:148 years to grow so hopefully they can
- 00:28:15make a splash before civ7 hits this is
- 00:28:18exclusive to PC and will be Day One on
- 00:28:20Game Pass hey and speaking of history
- 00:28:22and video games out this week if you're
- 00:28:23into Retro games maybe put this on your
- 00:28:25radar
- 00:28:35okay so the story for this one is kind
- 00:28:36of crazy around 10 years ago the creator
- 00:28:38of Spelunky Derek U had this weird idea
- 00:28:41to make a series of fake retro games
- 00:28:43made and designed in the 1980s by a
- 00:28:46fictional company for their fictional
- 00:28:48line of video game consoles cut two
- 00:28:51today and there's now a team of six
- 00:28:53Indie devs which includes ojiro foto a
- 00:28:56former Nintendo developer who made the
- 00:28:58excellent downwell and point P they've
- 00:29:00made 50 yes 50 fictional but fully
- 00:29:04fledged retro video games for a package
- 00:29:06called UFO 50 a game that charts the
- 00:29:09fictional history of this fictional
- 00:29:11company and their exploration of the
- 00:29:13gradually evolving console technology of
- 00:29:15the 1980s yes they made 50 video games
- 00:29:18in the time it takes to make one Concord
- 00:29:20there are games of all kinds and genres
- 00:29:22in here multiplayer and single player
- 00:29:24games Epic RPGs and strategy games as
- 00:29:26well as quick Arcade Hits with
- 00:29:28franchises and characters coming in and
- 00:29:30out of existence as you go through them
- 00:29:31chronologically some of the early
- 00:29:33reviews have talked about how they've
- 00:29:34nailed the gradual increase in Tech from
- 00:29:368bit to 16bit which is very cool and you
- 00:29:38got to think that there's some kind of
- 00:29:39overarching hidden meta mystery in here
- 00:29:41like with animal world right it'll be
- 00:29:43out on Steam by the time this episode
- 00:29:44goes up so be sure to follow the link in
- 00:29:46the description to our steam curator
- 00:29:47page where you can find UFO 50 and all
- 00:29:49of the other games we featured in this
- 00:29:51segment many of which end up being
- 00:29:53pretty good if this episode is any
- 00:29:54indication s of freeze tough time now
- 00:29:56and there's some good stuff this week
- 00:29:57right now now epic are giving away that
- 00:29:59retro Rugrats platforming game and super
- 00:30:02crazy Rhythm Castle from Konami but then
- 00:30:04on the 20th they're flipping over to
- 00:30:06tohm a photo Adventure which is a really
- 00:30:08lovely little indie game about taking
- 00:30:10photos basically you explore a Charming
- 00:30:12black and white World from a top down
- 00:30:13perspective but you go into first person
- 00:30:15with your camera to see things
- 00:30:16differently and capture fun moments I
- 00:30:18actually played this one and I really
- 00:30:19loved it definitely recommend it plus
- 00:30:21it's overwhelmingly positive on Steam
- 00:30:23with an open critic of 80 so you don't
- 00:30:24have to take just my word for it joining
- 00:30:26it is the Last Stand which is an is metc
- 00:30:28zombie shooter Rog like this one seems
- 00:30:30like a nice freebie if you need to work
- 00:30:31out some issues on some Undead hordes
- 00:30:33but can't afford the Dead Rising
- 00:30:34remaster jumping over to PlayStation
- 00:30:36Plus we've got the extra and premium
- 00:30:38tier refreshes here the big one here is
- 00:30:40the Plucky Squire which will come day
- 00:30:42and date for ps+ extra subscribers it's
- 00:30:44joined by some narrative indie games
- 00:30:46like under the waves night in the woods
- 00:30:47and Road 96 with chernova light and
- 00:30:50space engineers if you need something a
- 00:30:51little more serebral and Far Cry 5 if
- 00:30:54you want to get a bit of seed in you
- 00:30:55Joseph seed that is get your mind out of
- 00:30:57the gutter Prime gaming continues to
- 00:30:58deliver the goods this week I just took
- 00:31:00a look at the Redemption page and holy
- 00:31:02hell man there's just an insane number
- 00:31:03of games on there we already mentioned
- 00:31:05some of them but as a reminder this week
- 00:31:06they'll add Throne breaker The Witcher
- 00:31:08Tales the falconer Lego The Hobbit and
- 00:31:10Kerbal Space Program all are redeemed on
- 00:31:12good old games for that DRM free
- 00:31:14goodness there's also I love finding
- 00:31:16cats and pups Collector's Edition for
- 00:31:18the Amazon games app let me know if you
- 00:31:20play that one I want to hear what that
- 00:31:21is our fil good story for the week
- 00:31:23relates to one of the games we mentioned
- 00:31:24earlier in the review Roundup Marvel vs
- 00:31:26Capcom fighting collection it's got a
- 00:31:28pretty great reception all around but
- 00:31:30one thing that's been happening on the
- 00:31:31Steam Reviews for this one are both
- 00:31:33positive and negative reviews calling
- 00:31:35out something or someone called wler
- 00:31:38people are encountering wler when
- 00:31:40playing Marvel vs Capcom 2 online losing
- 00:31:42horribly and being inspired to say
- 00:31:45something about it in the steam review
- 00:31:46as it turns out wesla is the online
- 00:31:48handle for Justin Wong known for being
- 00:31:51the losing Chun Lee in the iconic Evo
- 00:31:54moment 37 but also known for being the
- 00:31:57most vict notorious player in the
- 00:31:59history of the annual Evo fighting game
- 00:32:01tournament in fact Justin has seven
- 00:32:03tournament wins in Marvel vs Capcom 2
- 00:32:06and now the new collection is out he saw
- 00:32:08to become number one on the new Marvel V
- 00:32:10Capcom 2 leader boards on every single
- 00:32:13platform something he has achieved very
- 00:32:15very easily most people who mention wler
- 00:32:17are taking it as a point of Pride that
- 00:32:19they lost to the all-time Champion for
- 00:32:21this game though at least one person has
- 00:32:23refunded the game on Steam saying quote
- 00:32:26Pro Fighters ru Inn the game for me end
- 00:32:29quote I say challenge yourself be glad
- 00:32:31you did your best and be thankful to
- 00:32:33have been beaten by the best all right
- 00:32:35ladies and gents that's all we got for
