- 00:00:00hello guys and gals me mudahar and
- 00:00:02today's video is brought to you by our
- 00:00:04own merch we just launched today some
- 00:00:06ordinary gamers. store ladies and
- 00:00:09gentlemen you want to get yourself this
- 00:00:11nice hoodie woo it's there want to get
- 00:00:13yourself a little coffee mug it's there
- 00:00:16check it out guys some ordinary gamers.
- 00:00:18store we had a few mentions for decided
- 00:00:20to throw it in but that's not what this
- 00:00:22video is entirely about you know I
- 00:00:24always talk about system privacy okay I
- 00:00:26think it's really important I think your
- 00:00:27privacy and your safety on the Internet
- 00:00:29is probably one of the most most
- 00:00:30important things ever and if it feels
- 00:00:31like I've mellowed out over here you
- 00:00:33probably noticed in like the last year
- 00:00:35close to you know the last several
- 00:00:37months I made a video about Opera GX for
- 00:00:40instance right where I looked into it I
- 00:00:41wanted to see some of its claims I
- 00:00:43wanted to test it and I really wanted to
- 00:00:45give my take where honestly when it came
- 00:00:47to a web browser which is something you
- 00:00:49use for most of your you know computer
- 00:00:51experience you're probably using one
- 00:00:53right now if you're watching this video
- 00:00:55on your computer then you want to make
- 00:00:57sure you pick one that respects your
- 00:00:59privacy your safety and the data you
- 00:01:02provide the browser when communicating
- 00:01:04with websites all over the internet
- 00:01:06right so obviously one of the most
- 00:01:09popular browsers in the world is
- 00:01:11something known as Firefox so you
- 00:01:13probably have seen Firefox at some point
- 00:01:15you probably used it I used to be
- 00:01:16somebody that was a user of Firefox
- 00:01:18right now if you go to firefox's FAQ
- 00:01:21right now you'll notice is Firefox safe
- 00:01:24why is Firefox so slow does Firefox use
- 00:01:28Google and of course obvious viously if
- 00:01:30I control F here and just ask does
- 00:01:32Firefox sell your personal data well
- 00:01:35you'll probably see see that it's not
- 00:01:37really uh an an option there in fact if
- 00:01:39I just type in the word cell there's
- 00:01:41actually no mention of it in the most
- 00:01:43updated FAQ however back in
- 00:01:472023 they used to say does Firefox sell
- 00:01:50your personal data nope never will never
- 00:01:53have and we protect you from many of the
- 00:01:56advertisers who do yeah I guess uh I
- 00:01:58guess the definition of never have never
- 00:02:00will this probably should be changed to
- 00:02:03never yet maybe I don't know question
- 00:02:05mark so okay look there's been a lot of
- 00:02:07talk about firefox's um terms of
- 00:02:10services having some rather wild changes
- 00:02:13in it and to give you an idea this is
- 00:02:15the Mozilla Bedrock GitHub and this is
- 00:02:17the entire code red is basically where
- 00:02:20things are removed and obviously people
- 00:02:21are commenting on it and talking about
- 00:02:23how Firefox is basically removing a lot
- 00:02:26of the you know stuff they said about
- 00:02:28selling user data and of course you see
- 00:02:30a bunch of comments unlike other
- 00:02:32companies we don't sell access to your
- 00:02:34data and it's gone it's gone being that
- 00:02:37literally that that was removed from uh
- 00:02:40this uh this um this commit right here
- 00:02:43so of course the further down you go
- 00:02:45into it it's like does Firefox sell your
- 00:02:47personal data that page we just looked
- 00:02:48at R meaning removed imagine making a
- 00:02:52promise and then just removing it like
- 00:02:54honestly yeah imagine making a promise
- 00:02:56about being so privacy focused and then
- 00:02:59bend sending people over a barrel and
- 00:03:01telling them to take it so all right
- 00:03:03going into the Firefox terms of services
- 00:03:05right or the terms of use rather right
- 00:03:07Firefox is a free and open- Source web
- 00:03:09browser built by Community for thousands
- 00:03:12of users all over the world okay so yeah
- 00:03:14Firefox is a nonprofit it's an open
- 00:03:16source project it literally exists again
- 00:03:18as competition to some of the largest
- 00:03:21people in the game so for instance right
- 00:03:23over here one of the things that people
- 00:03:25wanted to point out quite specifically
- 00:03:27was this line right here so you get
- 00:03:29Mozilla All rights necessary to operate
- 00:03:32Firefox including processing data as we
- 00:03:35describe in the Firefox privacy notice
- 00:03:38okay so hold on I give mozill Mozilla
- 00:03:40rights to operate Firefox and processing
- 00:03:43data what is processing data so let me
- 00:03:45open up the Firefox privacy notice and
- 00:03:47see exactly what the processing data
- 00:03:49could be so for instance when looking at
- 00:03:52the data it's to provide you with the
- 00:03:54Firefox browser so Firefox collects
- 00:03:56certain data like technical settings
- 00:03:57data to provide the core functionality
- 00:03:59of Firefox Box's browser and Associated
- 00:04:02Services distinguish your device from
- 00:04:04others remember to remember and respect
- 00:04:06your settings and provide you with
- 00:04:08default features like new Taps PDF
- 00:04:10editings password managers and [ __ ] like
- 00:04:12that so of course to go down into it we
- 00:04:14also look at things like the search
- 00:04:16functionality that is being improved uh
- 00:04:18more importantly we're looking at
- 00:04:20situations like AI chatbots review
- 00:04:23Checkers sponsored content and uh yeah
- 00:04:26it seems like that Firefox is kind of
- 00:04:28introducing a Fair bit of uh of of of AI
- 00:04:32level features which is not surprising I
- 00:04:34think a lot of browsers have ai features
- 00:04:36into it I think Edge probably has
- 00:04:38co-pilot baked into it at this point
- 00:04:40haven't used it in a while Brave I know
- 00:04:43is the browser that I used and that also
- 00:04:44has a few AI features as well too so for
- 00:04:47a lot of these services that are
- 00:04:49designed obviously Firefox probably will
- 00:04:52need some license to grab your data your
- 00:04:55you know processing data send it over to
- 00:04:57these Services if you choose to use them
- 00:05:00hopefully so going back to the terms of
- 00:05:02services right as well as acting on your
- 00:05:04behalf to help you navigate the internet
- 00:05:06when you upload or input information
- 00:05:07through Firefox such as you go up and
- 00:05:09put in an address into the SE or into
- 00:05:11into your address bar whatever you
- 00:05:13hereby grant us a non-exclusive
- 00:05:15royaltyfree worldwide license to use
- 00:05:18that information to help you navigate
- 00:05:19experience and interact with online
- 00:05:21content as you indicate with your use of
- 00:05:24Firefox so obviously when people are
- 00:05:26reading things like that they Wonder
- 00:05:27okay why are you grabbing it why do you
- 00:05:29need these royalty-free licenses and
- 00:05:31look if I had to be like the most
- 00:05:33charitable person here I'm assuming with
- 00:05:36this legal speak they're probably
- 00:05:38referring to maybe an AI like feature or
- 00:05:40something or some backend service where
- 00:05:42in order to use it you need to send them
- 00:05:44an actual piece of the information
- 00:05:46you're using like for instance if you're
- 00:05:48searching through like an AI Search tool
- 00:05:49that Firefox is providing just bear with
- 00:05:51me you send them permission to use what
- 00:05:54you just sent them to participate in
- 00:05:56their backend feature so they can give
- 00:05:58you the result right and this is
- 00:06:00something that if you look up any AI
- 00:06:01tool any social media really you are
- 00:06:04ultimately providing some royaltyfree
- 00:06:06worldwide licenses right that is just me
- 00:06:09being as like charitable as possible
- 00:06:12into reading this right obviously my
- 00:06:14perspective is with vague um you know
- 00:06:18wording like this with like vague legal
- 00:06:20it even if it's not malicious now
- 00:06:23there's no reason to not expect any form
- 00:06:25of maliciousness down the road right
- 00:06:27which is why anytime I see this all
- 00:06:29already I wouldn't use Firefox okay I
- 00:06:31already wouldn't be jumping into it but
- 00:06:33the reason I'm not using
- 00:06:35Firefox like this is also the reason
- 00:06:37that I don't use Google Chrome I don't
- 00:06:39use plenty of browsers that are shady to
- 00:06:41me and of course Firefox did in fact
- 00:06:44respond to this and provided hey we've
- 00:06:46seen a little confusion about the
- 00:06:48language regarding licenses so we want
- 00:06:50to clear it up yeah there's going to be
- 00:06:52confusion [ __ ] because you're
- 00:06:54writing it in like straight up legal EAS
- 00:06:55it's going to be confusing any we are
- 00:06:57worried people care about their privacy
- 00:06:59and they should they're not overreacting
- 00:07:02let's not even go down that road they
- 00:07:03haven't said it I I anytime I read this
- 00:07:05it always sounds like somebody's telling
- 00:07:07me I'm overreacting stop it we need a
- 00:07:09license to allow us to make some of the
- 00:07:11basic functionality of Firefox possible
- 00:07:13okay without it we couldn't use
- 00:07:14information typed into Firefox for
- 00:07:16example it does not give us ownership of
- 00:07:18your data a right to use it for anything
- 00:07:20other than what is described in the
- 00:07:21Privacy notice so literally what they
- 00:07:24have kind of said over here is Firefox
- 00:07:27will continue to add new features
- 00:07:28improve existence exting ones and Test
- 00:07:30new ideas we remain dedicated to making
- 00:07:32Firefox open source but we believe that
- 00:07:35doing so along with an official to will
- 00:07:37give you more transparency over your
- 00:07:39rights and permissions as you use
- 00:07:41Firefox we have always prioritized user
- 00:07:44privacy and will continue to do so we
- 00:07:46use data to make Firefox functional and
- 00:07:48sustainable sustainable what what the
- 00:07:51[ __ ] does the environment have to do
- 00:07:52with any of this [ __ ] improve your
- 00:07:54experience and keep you safe some
- 00:07:57optional Firefox features or Services
- 00:07:59May require us to collect additional
- 00:08:00data to make them work and when they do
- 00:08:02your privacy remains our priority so
- 00:08:05realistically again like I said earlier
- 00:08:07it really seems like they're getting
- 00:08:08Firefox ready for like AI tools to jump
- 00:08:11in and a lot of AI backends you know
- 00:08:13Firefox Services right so let's say they
- 00:08:16introduce like a Firefox deep research
- 00:08:18tool right where Firefox will use an AI
- 00:08:21to search the internet and give you like
- 00:08:22a summary of tools it's kind of like how
- 00:08:25open AI grock a lot of these AI models
- 00:08:27work a lot of these AI tools so you go
- 00:08:30to Firefox you tell it hey here's an
- 00:08:32entry right here's a like let's say hey
- 00:08:34look up Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer 2 for
- 00:08:36me uh or look up Grand Theft Auto 6
- 00:08:39analysis so you feed it that string it's
- 00:08:41going to take that string from you as a
- 00:08:43you know license as a you know
- 00:08:44non-exclusive royalty-free license
- 00:08:46whatever and use that in their backend
- 00:08:49service to do the search for you and
- 00:08:50spit out their slot back so that's the
- 00:08:53most charitable way for me to look at it
- 00:08:55right but again it all comes down to a
- 00:08:58lot of these services in introducing a
- 00:09:00lot of these browsers introducing I
- 00:09:02would think really needless services and
- 00:09:05then because they introduce those
- 00:09:06needless Services they then require more
- 00:09:08data from the average user and who knows
- 00:09:10where that data gets going to like I
- 00:09:12said at the beginning of this video I
- 00:09:13was showing you their actual page their
- 00:09:16actual like you know Firefox page and
- 00:09:18they were like hey they used to have a
- 00:09:20clause that says we don't ever sell your
- 00:09:22data that Clause has since been removed
- 00:09:25so all of these things coming together
- 00:09:26makes you wonder if this is as uh if
- 00:09:29this is as like simple and and and and
- 00:09:31well-meaning well-intentioned as they're
- 00:09:34presenting it over here that's up to you
- 00:09:36the end user to make that decision for
- 00:09:38yourself but based on everything that
- 00:09:39I've seen I would not ever use Firefox
- 00:09:43again okay and you know what that's not
- 00:09:45even that big of a deal because to be
- 00:09:47honest switching off Firefox is probably
- 00:09:50one of the easiest things you can do
- 00:09:52remember this is a set of licenses that
- 00:09:55they've introduced into what is known as
- 00:09:57the Firefox like bedrock firefox's
- 00:10:00actual binary release meaning that if
- 00:10:02you're downloading Firefox from the web
- 00:10:03browser you basically sign up to those
- 00:10:05terms of services by using their binary
- 00:10:08version of the browser the one you
- 00:10:10download from the page but remember
- 00:10:12Firefox is open source this is Firefox
- 00:10:14source code anybody can take this source
- 00:10:17code and Fork this source code and make
- 00:10:19their own browser out of this which is
- 00:10:22exactly what's happened with other
- 00:10:23people in this game so again if you want
- 00:10:26to use a more privacy version of fir Fox
- 00:10:29a far more privacy version there's
- 00:10:32mulvad browser for Linux right here
- 00:10:34ladies and gentlemen completely free for
- 00:10:36anybody to use right now you can
- 00:10:38download this give it a try far more
- 00:10:40private than Firefox could ever have if
- 00:10:42you want to use Firefox but more privacy
- 00:10:44focused there's Libra wolf which
- 00:10:47literally you can get the installation
- 00:10:49right here it comes for Windows Mac OS
- 00:10:52and depending on which version of Linux
- 00:10:53you're on like for instance I'm on Arch
- 00:10:55Linux uh click on Arch Linux it will
- 00:10:57tell you hey here's how install Arch do
- 00:11:00you have a uh or helper you can put this
- 00:11:03command into your terminal if you don't
- 00:11:05that's fine use this Command right here
- 00:11:07Source version or the binary version so
- 00:11:11you literally don't have to use Firefox
- 00:11:13if you feel uncomfortable because
- 00:11:14Firefox as a company is introducing
- 00:11:16things that you may not agree with
- 00:11:19that's totally fine that's totally okay
- 00:11:21Switching off is no problem if you want
- 00:11:23to go to chromium browsers you don't
- 00:11:25even have to use Google Chrome there's
- 00:11:27ungoogled chromium you can go over to
- 00:11:29this GitHub repository right now you can
- 00:11:32literally go to the downloads page and
- 00:11:35it will tell you how you can download
- 00:11:36this for Mac OS Windows various versions
- 00:11:40of Linux all the actual instructions
- 00:11:42have basically been provided so there is
- 00:11:45no real issue switching off browsers if
- 00:11:48you feel uncomfortable now there's a
- 00:11:51website known as privacy test.org which
- 00:11:53will go through a further analysis of
- 00:11:55the Privacy that certain browsers
- 00:11:57provide so for instance when it comes to
- 00:11:59State partitioning tests Brave
- 00:12:01absolutely passes as does Firefox but
- 00:12:04since you don't feel comfortable with
- 00:12:05Firefox let's say go to Libra wolf it
- 00:12:07passes the exact same state partitioning
- 00:12:10tests it passes even more https tests
- 00:12:13than Firefox or Brave does so yeah
- 00:12:16realistically if you're worried about
- 00:12:18you know Firefox and them including
- 00:12:20features like AI or features that
- 00:12:22require them to take information from
- 00:12:24you and process them for whatever reason
- 00:12:27then you don't have to use their service
- 00:12:29you can just stay away the way that
- 00:12:31Firefox has been treating themselves
- 00:12:33is honestly like to to say the least
- 00:12:36very concerning like very very
- 00:12:38concerning and mind you Firefox has had
- 00:12:40a leadership shakeup and I believe
- 00:12:43they've actually had people introduced
- 00:12:44into their organization that are more AI
- 00:12:46friendly so you know all those AI
- 00:12:48features that you may be annoyed by they
- 00:12:51may slowly be introducing themselves
- 00:12:54into one of these browsers now to also
- 00:12:56give a a little bit of you know extra
- 00:12:58context
- 00:12:59if you read the terms of services
- 00:13:01provided by say Google for instance
- 00:13:03Google also talks about having certain
- 00:13:06licenses right so this is not like an
- 00:13:08exclusive feature that exists entirely
- 00:13:11for Firefox they're not the only people
- 00:13:13doing it Google also does this but
- 00:13:15remember Google also is one of the most
- 00:13:18invasive privacy busting groups on the
- 00:13:21internet so just because you're similar
- 00:13:23to Google in this regard doesn't
- 00:13:25actually help your case but to give you
- 00:13:27an idea firefox's new new terms of
- 00:13:29services is not something that is not
- 00:13:31standard uh in fact there's a lot of
- 00:13:33legal ease and there's a lot of broad
- 00:13:35legal work just to exist literally so
- 00:13:38that they can introduce a lot of these
- 00:13:40features uh down the road and have them
- 00:13:42you know gain access to some of your
- 00:13:44data to again give you access to these
- 00:13:46AI level features that I think will be
- 00:13:48implemented down the road or it could be
- 00:13:49any other feature tying to the Firefox
- 00:13:52back end but yeah Firefox would never
- 00:13:55trust it again and I would never
- 00:13:57recommend it to anybody but given you
- 00:13:59some actual options to switch off in
- 00:14:01this video so if you are somebody that
- 00:14:03cares about your privacy and and you
- 00:14:04should and remember this is your web
- 00:14:06browsing experience switching a browser
- 00:14:08is not that hard okay it's literally a
- 00:14:11you go to a different website you
- 00:14:12download a different browser you install
- 00:14:14it you copy your settings over and
- 00:14:16you're done you never have to worry
- 00:14:18about it again so honestly if you're a
- 00:14:21Firefox user my personal recommendation
- 00:14:23if you love firefox's engine go to Libra
- 00:14:26wolf if you want to switch to chromium
- 00:14:28go to bra
- 00:14:29go to ungoogled chromium but I would
- 00:14:32recommend if you care about your privacy
- 00:14:34and it's super easy to switch even if
- 00:14:36you're a Firefox person go to something
- 00:14:38like Liber wolf it's easy go to molad
- 00:14:40browser go to any other browser but
- 00:14:43Firefox you know the reason I don't use
- 00:14:45Firefox right now is literally the same
- 00:14:48reason that I don't use Microsoft Edge
- 00:14:50or Google Chrome they're all run by
- 00:14:52these big companies they're all run by
- 00:14:53people slowly festering an AI to their
- 00:14:55Tools in [ __ ] ifying their actual
- 00:14:57applications and and uh basically taking
- 00:15:00away what is just simple web browsing at
- 00:15:02the end of the day but yeah that's just
- 00:15:05where my take is I wanted to really make
- 00:15:07a video on it because yeah this is weird
- 00:15:10it's just it's not okay if you like what
- 00:15:13you saw please like comment and
- 00:15:14subscribe dis like dislike it I am out
