00:00:00
I visited 20 New York City attractions
00:00:03
in just three days in this video I will
00:00:06
break down just how I did this and also
00:00:09
give you my own opinion on which
00:00:11
activities lived up to the hype which
00:00:13
ones were actually on the disappointing
00:00:15
side and the activities that actually
00:00:17
exceeded my expectations
00:00:21
before we begin it will be very
00:00:22
important to discuss transportation and
00:00:25
getting around the city as efficiently
00:00:27
as possible as this will be very key to
00:00:30
maximizing the number of attractions
00:00:31
you'll be able to see in a day now if
00:00:35
you have the budget you can get around
00:00:37
using the many available ride share
00:00:39
services like uber and Lyft just to name
00:00:41
a few or you can even do the traditional
00:00:43
New York way and hail a Yellow Cab but
00:00:47
if you are traveling on a tighter budget
00:00:49
then I would highly suggest getting a
00:00:51
weekly pass to gain unlimited access to
00:00:54
the New York City subway and bus lines
00:00:56
now I initially had my own reservations
00:00:59
about using the public transit system in
00:01:01
New York City due to my own
00:01:03
preconceptions about its safety but in
00:01:06
hindsight I found the public transit
00:01:08
system to be a safe and extremely
00:01:10
efficient way to get around the city
00:01:12
while avoiding the heavy traffic that
00:01:15
the city is so well known for the
00:01:18
one-time flat fee for this weekly pass
00:01:20
was just 33 3 US Dollars which I think
00:01:22
is quite the bargain in my opinion
00:01:25
for shorter distances though you may
00:01:27
also want to consider taking the city
00:01:28
bike
00:01:30
ride will set you back roughly 4.49 and
00:01:33
allow for 30 minutes of use a city bike
00:01:36
day pass is also available for 19 and
00:01:40
will allow for an unlimited number of 30
00:01:43
minute rides for any given day
00:01:45
now I would be doing you a disservice if
00:01:48
I didn't mention the ability to get free
00:01:50
Wi-Fi almost anywhere in the city
00:01:53
through something called link NYC Wi-Fi
00:01:56
now the city it used to have thousands
00:01:58
of pay phones scattered around the city
00:02:00
but due to Changing Times these phone
00:02:03
boosts were intelligently converted into
00:02:05
Wi-Fi terminals where you can make phone
00:02:07
calls look up maps for directions or
00:02:10
even charge your smartphone simply find
00:02:12
one of these Wi-Fi terminals follow the
00:02:15
on-screen instructions and connect your
00:02:17
phone just once to the Wi-Fi network
00:02:19
then you're good to go for the duration
00:02:21
of your stay
00:02:22
having an internet connection will come
00:02:24
in very very handy when trying to
00:02:26
navigate your way through the city
00:02:28
now that we have gotten the basics out
00:02:30
of the way let's talk about some of the
00:02:32
activities I found to be worthwhile
00:02:34
doing now keep in mind that these are
00:02:37
based on my own preferences and there
00:02:39
might be items on this list that may
00:02:41
interest you more than others as it were
00:02:43
in my case first up on the list is the
00:02:47
Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum
00:02:49
located in the Hell's Kitchen District
00:02:51
of New York now after spending three
00:02:54
hours at this Museum I quickly realized
00:02:58
that this was an extremely underrated
00:03:00
attraction
00:03:02
now we got the opportunity to see
00:03:04
military equipment that I've only seen
00:03:06
in movies up until this point the
00:03:09
Intrepid was an actual aircraft carrier
00:03:11
that was used during World War II in
00:03:14
fact this actual vessel was attacked by
00:03:17
the Japanese Kamikaze and nearly sunk
00:03:20
however the sophisticated engineering of
00:03:23
the watercraft withstood the attack and
00:03:25
remained as part of the US Navy coming
00:03:28
up close and in person to a U.S aircraft
00:03:31
carrier really gives you an appreciation
00:03:33
for its sheer size and Design
00:03:36
during our tour we were greeted by a war
00:03:39
veteran who gave us surprising facts
00:03:41
about the Intrepid for example did you
00:03:44
know that there is enough electrical
00:03:45
wiring on the Intrepid to run around the
00:03:48
circumference of the earth at least once
00:03:50
it's no wonder these watercrafts would
00:03:53
cost billions of dollars to manufacture
00:03:55
inside the aircraft carrier there were
00:03:58
also games and activities for kids and
00:04:00
adults to enjoy
00:04:01
we even got the chance to try a 3D
00:04:04
flight simulator that mimicked flying a
00:04:07
military fighter jet for an extra fee
00:04:10
you could also get a tour and also sit
00:04:13
in the Concorde which was a supersonic
00:04:16
commercial airplane that was capable of
00:04:19
flying twice the speed of sound back in
00:04:22
the day tickets to fly on these planes
00:04:24
commercially would cost the equivalent
00:04:27
of 15 000 US dollars in today's money so
00:04:31
it's definitely worth taking the tour
00:04:32
just to say that you have been on the
00:04:35
famous Concord as part of the tour of
00:04:38
the Intrepid you will also get the
00:04:40
opportunity to see and enter a submarine
00:04:43
that was active during the Cold War era
00:04:45
it was quite interesting to see how the
00:04:48
Navy officers would live on these
00:04:50
submarines for five months at a time
00:04:52
getting first-hand stories from veterans
00:04:55
who lived on these submarines was a nice
00:04:57
added value to the walk around tour
00:05:00
needless to say if you want to learn a
00:05:03
lot and have a unique experience
00:05:04
definitely do not Overlook the Intrepid
00:05:08
Museum while you are visiting New York
00:05:11
no trip to New York would feel complete
00:05:13
without at least going to see the famous
00:05:15
Statue of Liberty luckily you can do a
00:05:19
sale by of the Statue of Liberty while
00:05:21
taking the Staten Island Ferry which is
00:05:23
free no Metro pass required once you get
00:05:27
to Staten Island you can simply hop on
00:05:29
the next ferry going in the opposite
00:05:31
direction to get a nice view of
00:05:33
Manhattan as well
00:05:34
now if you wish to get an even closer
00:05:36
view of the Statue of Liberty then you
00:05:39
can also opt to take a designated boat
00:05:41
to work at Liberty Island where you can
00:05:43
enter the Statue of Liberty with a
00:05:45
reservation and even visit the Ellis
00:05:47
Island immigration Museum to get a sense
00:05:50
of what it would have been like to
00:05:51
arrive to America in 1892. now you'll be
00:05:55
able to do this next activity if you
00:05:58
took the time to get the weekly metro
00:05:59
card I spoke about earlier but if not no
00:06:03
worries you can still get on the
00:06:04
Roosevelt Island aerial Tramway for the
00:06:07
fare of 2.75 cents U.S per trip
00:06:11
riding on the Tramway will provide you
00:06:13
with a unique view of the city as well
00:06:16
as the Queensborough Bridge
00:06:18
so in essence it's a small price to pay
00:06:21
for such a unique experience be sure to
00:06:24
have your camera handy as the views are
00:06:26
actually quite impressive another fairly
00:06:29
common attraction to go see is the
00:06:31
Empire State Building for a point in
00:06:33
time this structure was the tallest
00:06:36
man-made building in the world
00:06:38
with that being said I personally would
00:06:41
not take the time to go to the top of
00:06:42
the Empire State Building because of how
00:06:45
crowded it can be
00:06:46
I would instead go to the Top of the
00:06:49
Rock Observation Deck also known as the
00:06:51
top of the Rockefeller Center so you can
00:06:53
get an even better view of the Empire
00:06:56
State Building on our way up to the
00:06:59
lookout the elevator had some cool
00:07:01
animations to enhance the overall
00:07:03
experience
00:07:04
while at the top we were lucky to see
00:07:06
the sun begin to set on the Empire State
00:07:09
Building
00:07:10
quite The Humbling imagery to see in
00:07:12
person
00:07:13
to go to the lookout you will need to
00:07:15
reserve a time slot when booking your
00:07:17
tickets online
00:07:20
if you stayed around this long watching
00:07:23
this video thank you here's a little tip
00:07:25
for saving some money on some of the
00:07:27
attractions now instead of buying your
00:07:30
tickets individually consider heading
00:07:32
over to citypass.com New York and select
00:07:36
a bundle of 3 5 or 10 attractions from
00:07:39
this page you will be able to bundle
00:07:41
your choice of activities into one
00:07:43
purchase allowing you to save money
00:07:45
versus buying each activity individually
00:07:49
sure to hit the like and the Subscribe
00:07:51
button if you are enjoying the content
00:07:53
thus far
00:07:56
this next one I wouldn't really consider
00:07:58
it as an activity but more as an
00:08:00
opportunity to pay homage to the
00:08:02
individuals who did not survive the
00:08:04
attack on 9 11. a beautiful waterfall
00:08:07
Memorial lies in place of where the two
00:08:09
Twin Towers used to be being there more
00:08:13
than 20 years after the tragedy took
00:08:15
place does have a humbling effect
00:08:18
to learn more you can also visit the
00:08:20
adjacent 911 Memorial Museum or even go
00:08:23
to the top of the new World Trade Center
00:08:25
to have a spectacular view from their
00:08:28
Observatory
00:08:31
I must say that this next activity was
00:08:34
one that I was very much looking forward
00:08:36
to I had heard great things about it but
00:08:39
I can't help but feel somewhat
00:08:41
disappointed because I was just
00:08:43
expecting more from the American Museum
00:08:44
of Natural History this is not to say
00:08:47
that I had a bad experience no not at
00:08:49
all but I was just expecting to see
00:08:51
something different something that I
00:08:53
would not be able to see at an alternate
00:08:55
Museum maybe it's because they did not
00:08:57
have the ancient Egyptian exhibit that I
00:08:59
had my heart set on but in any case if
00:09:01
you have kids and if you have not been
00:09:03
to a museum of this scale in size then
00:09:05
definitely check it out there will be
00:09:07
lots to see and learn definitely bring
00:09:09
some comfortable Footwear as you will be
00:09:11
walking around for quite some time
00:09:14
now if at this point you have gotten a
00:09:16
little bit overwhelmed with the fast
00:09:18
pace of the city and you require a
00:09:20
little bit of downtime then be sure to
00:09:22
take a stroll through Central Park in
00:09:25
fact this is exactly what we did
00:09:26
immediately after our visit to the
00:09:29
American Museum of Natural History as
00:09:31
it's quite literally across the street
00:09:34
Central Park really serves as an oasis
00:09:36
away from the commotion and noise that
00:09:39
Manhattan is often associated with
00:09:41
walking through Central Park was a very
00:09:43
welcome change of pace however the park
00:09:46
is well known for its sheer size and you
00:09:49
can easily spend a day without being
00:09:51
able to experience everything that the
00:09:53
park has to offer but whatever time you
00:09:55
can spend you can guarantee that you
00:09:58
will be serenaded with a great Ambiance
00:10:00
numerous activities and a natural
00:10:02
picturesque scenery
00:10:06
[Music]
00:10:08
another free activity to take advantage
00:10:10
of while in New York is to walk across
00:10:12
the famous Brooklyn Bridge this
00:10:14
structure is roughly 1.1 miles long but
00:10:17
while there you will be greeted by
00:10:19
numerous Merchants who sell New York
00:10:21
City memorabilia
00:10:23
you will truly get a first-hand
00:10:24
experience of what the New York hustle
00:10:27
culture is like when crossing the bridge
00:10:30
from Manhattan you will eventually
00:10:31
arrive into the Dumbo region of Brooklyn
00:10:34
this sector is very Scenic and from here
00:10:37
you will get the opportunity to see
00:10:39
Manhattan from the other side of the
00:10:41
river
00:10:42
there are also nice Parks as well as
00:10:45
restaurants that you will be able to
00:10:47
explore
00:10:48
a very nice way to finish an evening
00:10:50
especially after being exposed to The
00:10:52
Hectic nature of Manhattan
00:10:56
if you consider yourself to be a foodie
00:10:58
and you would like to venture out to see
00:11:00
the very soul of New York then be sure
00:11:02
to check out the Soho Little Italy and
00:11:04
Chinatown regions you will certainly be
00:11:07
overwhelmed with the volume and variety
00:11:09
of food offerings in these districts
00:11:12
after seeing the craze over a French
00:11:14
pastry shop on social media we decided
00:11:17
to pay a little visit to the Lafayette
00:11:19
Grand Cafe and Bakery
00:11:21
we ended up trying their famous
00:11:23
cream-filled croissant Supremes which
00:11:25
are made with different flavors each
00:11:27
month so whichever flavor you try keep
00:11:30
in mind that they are limited editions
00:11:32
we were fortunate enough to try the
00:11:34
strawberry lemonade and all I can say is
00:11:36
if you have a sweet tooth beware
00:11:40
now this next region of Manhattan is
00:11:43
probably one of the busiest Times Square
00:11:46
the very definition of the big city
00:11:49
while there you will be exposed to Giant
00:11:52
screens and bright lights if you are
00:11:54
used to a more Suburban setting then
00:11:56
this just might be somewhat of a culture
00:11:58
shock for you but it's not all chaos in
00:12:01
this region you will also be able to
00:12:03
find every mainstream brand of products
00:12:05
available everything from shoes to
00:12:08
clothing and even makeup so if you're
00:12:10
into shopping prepare to be amazed in
00:12:14
this same district you will also find
00:12:15
the Broadway Theater during our visit
00:12:18
Broadway was still hosting the famous
00:12:20
Lion King musical definitely something
00:12:23
worth seeing while in New York
00:12:25
[Music]
00:12:27
if you're into architecture then you'll
00:12:29
certainly enjoy the next attraction the
00:12:31
New York Public Library is a very
00:12:33
photogenic structure both inside and out
00:12:37
students use the space as a place to
00:12:39
study and get work done but for tourists
00:12:42
like myself we go there to appreciate
00:12:44
the design and Engineering of the
00:12:46
building
00:12:47
entry to the public library is free but
00:12:50
just keep in mind that some rooms have
00:12:52
restricted access in order to protect
00:12:54
the focus of the aspiring students just
00:12:57
behind the New York Library you will
00:12:59
also find Bryant Park which is a
00:13:02
beautiful 9.6 acre open space that is
00:13:05
known for hosting numerous events during
00:13:07
both the summer and winter months
00:13:11
if you have ever invested in stocks or
00:13:13
even listened to someone talk about
00:13:14
their own portfolio you would have more
00:13:17
than likely at some point heard them
00:13:19
mention the term Wall Street well this
00:13:21
is the financial Hub of New York and in
00:13:24
some cases of the world you will be able
00:13:26
to see all of these famous references in
00:13:29
the financial district of New York
00:13:30
including the famous Charging Bull
00:13:33
if none of this interests you then you
00:13:36
can still appreciate that somewhat
00:13:37
European look of the sector
00:13:41
now this next attraction was actually a
00:13:43
little bit higher up on my personal list
00:13:45
but upon arriving to the site the flat
00:13:48
iron building was actually under
00:13:49
construction so sadly I was not able to
00:13:52
join the club of people who have taken
00:13:55
beautiful pictures of the architectural
00:13:57
Marvel but luckily the time traveling
00:14:00
there was not completely wasted because
00:14:01
right across the street we were able to
00:14:04
find the Madison Square Park
00:14:06
which was an amazing spot to just Lounge
00:14:09
out and enjoy the Ambiance we even
00:14:11
stumbled across one of the coolest dog
00:14:13
parts we've seen it almost seemed like a
00:14:16
water park for dogs and should you get a
00:14:18
little hungry you'll find a Shake Shack
00:14:20
conveniently placed in the center of the
00:14:23
park all around very good vibes and
00:14:26
definitely worth the visit
00:14:27
last on this list is the Washington
00:14:29
Square Park now I wouldn't really say
00:14:32
that there was anything particularly
00:14:34
special about this park but after seeing
00:14:37
the Washington Square arch in so many
00:14:39
films I figured it would be nice to
00:14:41
cross it off the list just so I could
00:14:44
say that I've been to see it in person
00:14:46
however by chance while we were there we
00:14:49
actually ran into the New York city
00:14:51
mayor Eric Adams needless to say the
00:14:54
task of running New York City is no easy
00:14:56
feat and given the fact that I've
00:14:59
enjoyed my three days here is probably a
00:15:01
testament to all the hard work that
00:15:03
keeps a city as large as Manhattan
00:15:05
running the way it is
00:15:08
now before I let you go I know planning
00:15:11
a trip like this can get pretty
00:15:12
expensive very fast if not properly
00:15:15
planned and budgeted for so here is
00:15:17
another Pro tip to help you save some
00:15:19
money while visiting the city instead of
00:15:22
getting a hotel or an Airbnb on the
00:15:24
island of Manhattan consider staying in
00:15:27
Queens or even in Brooklyn to save on
00:15:29
the lodging costs simply choose a spot
00:15:32
with good Metro access so you can easily
00:15:34
and quickly move to and from Manhattan
00:15:37
in our case we ended up staying at the
00:15:40
LIC hotel in Queens the hotel was
00:15:43
extremely clean and the staff was also
00:15:46
very polite if you are arriving by car
00:15:48
they can also accommodate your need for
00:15:50
parking there was also a very nice
00:15:53
rooftop Terrace that offered a very nice
00:15:56
view of Manhattan as you can see we're
00:16:00
here on the rooftop Terrace uh we're
00:16:03
like even though we're sort of off the
