Thank you Notion for supporting this video
00:00:03
Hello everyone, welcome to my newest video
00:00:06
On the last video regarding the 4 mindsets that changed my life, I received tons of positive comments
00:00:12
Because of that, I thought to myself, "Why not make a video about habits?"
00:00:17
So, this is a video about 7 habits that changed my life
00:00:20
The first habit is self-care
00:00:23
The kind of self-care that I mean here is the kind of self-care that has to do with our body
00:00:27
Such as washing our face, using deodorant, and shaving frequently
00:00:33
I realize that many of my viewers are teenagers and young adults
00:00:38
So, I feel like if you're starting this habit at your age, it's a really good thing
00:00:43
Because, in order to see a significant change, you'll need a year or two
00:00:47
But, once it happens, there will be a boost in our confidence
00:00:52
And that is going to help us perform better, take more risks, and be more open towards new opportunities
00:01:00
During my high school years, I suffered terrible acne, but, when I started washing my face three times a day, but now I only do it twice, in the morning and before bed,
00:01:11
Now, I feel like my skin has gotten better, and I feel more confident because of that
00:01:17
Now, about shaving, some of you may mantain your mustache and beard, because of religious reasons or something else,
00:01:24
but, many of you don't, many of you also don't shave your mustache and beard because you think that shaving it will cause it to grow even thicker
00:01:33
First thing first, in my opinion, that's a myth
00:01:35
Even if that's true, in my opinion, it's better to just shave it once a week, it only takes ten seconds
00:01:43
It's better than having a catfish mustache for years
00:01:47
The second habit is the habit of speed-listening
00:01:50
This is a habit that I apply when I listen to YouTube videos, audiobooks, or podcasts
00:01:55
The videos that I watch, I usually consume them in twice the normal speed
00:02:01
Imagine if, in a week, we watch videos, listen to audiobooks and podcasts in total of 10 hours,
00:02:08
If we listen to them twice the speed, we are going to save ourselves 5 hours
00:02:14
For me, 5 hours is a lot of time that we can save for other things
00:02:18
Of course, we don't have to apply this to everything, If I was watching an entertainment video, a drama, or a funny clip,
00:02:27
I don't think it's fun to watch it in twice the speed
00:02:30
But, If I was in a position where I want to extract some information from the content,
00:02:36
I watch or listen to them in twice the normal speed
00:02:40
So far, I never felt like I was losing retention. I feel like my memory and my focus is still the same compared to the time I watch in normal speed.
00:02:51
If you want to save time, speed-listening is a habit that you have to try
00:02:57
Another habit is to treat education as a necessity
00:03:01
This is a habit that is kind of hard to articulate, so, I'm just going to give you an example
00:03:06
Disclaimer, for this habit, if you're in a position where it's hard to fulfill essential needs, of course, you'll need to prioritize that first
00:03:15
But, with the assumption that we have fulfilled the basic needs of our lives,
00:03:20
For me, seeing education as a necessity is going to give you a positive impact
00:03:26
For example, I didn't like spending my money on books, educational subscriptions, tutoring, etc. because I thought it wasn't worth it
00:03:35
It was easier for me to spend my money on shoes and clothing compared to education
00:03:42
But, since my junior and senior year of high school, as long as something is making me smarter, it doesn't take long for me to buy it straight away
00:03:50
I believe that our most valuable asset is our head
00:03:54
So, now, when I have a budget in 'necessities', I have some portion of it for education
00:03:58
For example, 10-15% for anything that has to do with education, such as buying books, subscriptions to audiobooks, paid tutor, or skill developments
00:04:11
I usually treat it the way I buy food
00:04:15
Of course, just because it's education, we can't be carefree about it
00:04:19
It's the same as buying food... we have to decide whether we need to make the food ourself or buy it, whether we need to eat at an all-you-can-eat or at a small food stall...
00:04:29
...whether we want Japanese food or Pecel Lele
00:04:34
It's the same as education, we need to apply our common sense by treating education like 'food'
00:04:41
In long term, if we invest in our head, the return is faster and bigger than any other investment instrument
00:04:51
The fourth habit is to write down my ideas
00:04:54
Sometimes I regret the moments when I had brilliant ideas
00:05:01
But, because I only keep the ideas in my head, I never them down or whatever,
00:05:05
The ideas float away... in result, I remember that I dreamed of something, but I never remember what those dreams were
00:05:10
So, by writing down the kind of ideas that we want to develop
00:05:14
Whether we want to realize those ideas or not
00:05:16
In the future, when we actually need them, there's a bigger chance that it is going to turn into reality, in accordance to our condition at that time
00:05:25
Our brains are very good at processing information, but, they're not the best at storing them
00:05:31
That's why I use existing applications and technology to help me have a second brain
00:05:37
When I think of something I either write them down right away or I store them in my Notes if I'm holding a phone
00:05:44
And then, I organize the unorganized ideas in Notion
00:05:51
I have made two videos about Notion before that you can watch
00:05:54
To put it simply, Notion is a mix of productivity apps that you see out there
00:05:59
More importantly, we can use Notion to manage the projects that we have
00:06:04
For example, we can use it when we are a committe of an event, or, in my case, I use it to run my channel
00:06:08
Where I do not work alone, but I also have my teams with me
00:06:12
in Notion, I like to make calendars that we can use together
00:06:16
and the to-do list that each person can use and fill
00:06:19
and then a script page that my team can directly comment
00:06:24
I also really like Notion because of its simple and intuitive design
00:06:28
And, In my opinion, Notion is a beautiful alternative for Google Workspace
00:06:32
The fifth habit is to use a digital calendar
00:06:36
For a project-based calendar, I like Notion better
00:06:39
But, for daily time-blocking, I like Google Calendars better
00:06:45
Because, almost everyone I know use Gmail,
00:06:48
So, when I want to schedule a meeting, I just need to write down their email and they can add it to their own Google Calendar
00:06:55
First thing first, this digital calendar is a really good reminder on what we need to do
00:07:03
Next, when we know exactly what we're going to do at this and that time, we have a bigger chance of actually doing it
00:07:11
compared to solely relying on memory and instinct
00:07:15
Next, when we know that something is coming from 1PM to 3PM,
00:07:20
We can look around that schedule and look for time for relaxation
00:07:26
Because we know that at that time, we can relax,
00:07:29
We don't feel as guilty, and, in general, we feel happier
00:07:34
And then, if we schedule our daily routines in Google Calendar,
00:07:38
We can look at our monthly and weekly view
00:07:41
From that view, we can see how our daily and weekly routines look like
00:07:47
Because of that, it's easier for us to plan and add activities in the future...
00:07:53
because of the knowledge that we gain from the data that we have inputted into the digital calendar
00:07:58
The sixth habit is a Nostalgia Machine
00:08:01
So, this is a way for me to look back at times and phases in my life that I went through
00:08:07
Since I started doing this, the world seems to work slower than it used to before
00:08:12
Oftentimes, precious times just pass
00:08:16
We may even forget what we had for lunch last Thursday
00:08:20
The first nostalgia machine that I have is "Homework for Life"
00:08:24
Homework for Life is an adaptation from a book by Matthew Dicks titled 'Storyworthy'
00:08:30
So, what we have to do is we make an excel or a spreadsheet, on the left side you'll have the date
00:08:34
And, on the right side of it, just one or two words that we can use to remember that day
00:08:41
And the second one is, Quarterly Spotify Playlist or a Spotify playlist that I arrange every once in a while
00:08:48
For some people, they like to make a Spotify playlist every three months... for me, I make them every three months
00:08:55
For now, I already have three playlists, and when I listen to these playlists again,
00:08:59
It reminds me of how I felt that time and what I was going through
00:09:04
Of course, if you can live the moment, go ahead and live the moment at that time
00:09:09
But, in order to do all this, I only need 5 minutes, or even less, in one day
00:09:16
If we can spend our thirty minutes looking at Instagram stories that we forget the next day,
00:09:22
I feel like 5 minute is not that big of a thing for an eternal memory
00:09:27
And then, the sevent habit is to work out
00:09:30
Honestly, this is not something that I do recently
00:09:33
But, I'm saying it here as a public commitment so you can hold me accountable for what I said earlier
00:09:40
Even though I rarely exercise now, I still remember the first time I used to exercise, by going to gym, or playing football, running, or anything that makes me healthier,
00:09:49
It didn't just make me healthier physically and mentally,
00:09:53
But, it also made me more confident and look cooler B-)
00:09:57
But, most importantly, working out makes me sleep better
00:10:03
Working out also gives me more energy to do better things in my life
00:10:07
In general, I became a more positive, happier, and motivated person
00:10:12
I also have bigger energy to learn new things
00:10:16
Once again, these seven habits are going to be overwhelming if you apply them simultaneously
00:10:22
So, just look at one or two habits that you guys want to apply
00:10:26
And try to be consistent with those two habits before you move on to another habit
00:10:31
'Of course, these habits are going to be easier to be applied if we approach it with the right mindsets
00:10:37
For 'Four Mindsets that Changed My Life', you guys can check out this video
