I don't actually know what happens if
  • 00:00:02
somebody says now clicks no to the
  • 00:00:05
recording whatever it all stops but uh I
  • 00:00:08
hope you're okay with that because uh as
  • 00:00:10
you know we're going to have focus on T1
  • 00:00:12
today not everybody is able to join
  • 00:00:14
during the day so we've had a few people
  • 00:00:16
saying whether are we going to do a
  • 00:00:17
second call uh we will obviously
  • 00:00:19
consider that but uh as a start at least
  • 00:00:21
we're going to try to record the call
  • 00:00:23
here now so I have with me as you saw on
  • 00:00:26
my first slide GRE who is uh the head of
  • 00:00:30
of our participation programs and then
  • 00:00:32
you might give a quick intro to yourself
  • 00:00:34
greig I think most people here on the
  • 00:00:36
call know me the uh the regional uh
  • 00:00:39
partnership manager for Europe uh I know
  • 00:00:42
a lot of you or most of you I see
  • 00:00:43
    there's a few names I haven't met before
  • 00:00:45
so great to see some new faces here on
  • 00:00:47
the call and U the sole purpose really
  • 00:00:50
of the call today here is really to give
  • 00:00:52
you some more insights on T1 rugby I
  • 00:00:54
know a few of the people on their list
  • 00:00:56
here already knows a bit about the T1
  • 00:00:59
and have seen introductions uh done
  • 00:01:01
before when we first launched it uh but
  • 00:01:04
I felt there was an opportunity to some
  • 00:01:06
of the calls I've had with with some of
  • 00:01:07
our unions in Europe that certainly
  • 00:01:09
people could benefit from more insights
  • 00:01:12
uh into this and uh who's better at
  • 00:01:14
doing that than the guy who was part of
  • 00:01:16
the development team of uh of the T1 and
  • 00:01:21
that is Greg so Greg I guess that's part
  • 00:01:23
of your presentation so I won't take
  • 00:01:25
that away but but I think I'm going to
  • 00:01:27
give the word to you what's going to
  • 00:01:28
happen practically here please keep keep
  • 00:01:30
your your uh keep yourself on mute
  • 00:01:33
    throughout the whole presentation here
  • 00:01:36
you you're welcome to ask questions at
  • 00:01:37
some point uh but otherwise just please
  • 00:01:40
keep using the chat function then I'll
  • 00:01:42
monitor that and I'll keep uh also an
  • 00:01:45
eye out for for any hands that you are
  • 00:01:48
raised for any questions uh and then
  • 00:01:50
I'll assist Greg running through this
  • 00:01:52
but uh Greg I think I'm going to hand
  • 00:01:54
over to you as a start here now and then
  • 00:01:57
let you uh take us away we great and I
  • 00:02:00
have discussed we're going to leave
  • 00:02:01
plenty of room for questions at the end
  • 00:02:04
so uh but if there's something really
  • 00:02:05
important to ask for in the in the
  • 00:02:07
beginning then just as I said use the
  • 00:02:09
hands function or or write a question in
  • 00:02:12
the chat but over to you Greg thanks end
  • 00:02:16
    and can you see my
  • 00:02:19
screen yes I can certainly see it yeah
  • 00:02:22
great well good morning everyone and and
  • 00:02:24
and thank you Yen and thank you uh rugby
  • 00:02:27
Europe for for the invite today I'm
  • 00:02:29
going to take about 25 minutes uh going
  • 00:02:31
through some slides around T1 rugby and
  • 00:02:34
we'll have plenty of opportunity then to
  • 00:02:35
have some question answers you know
  • 00:02:37
around that my name is Greg Woods
  • 00:02:39
    participation programs manager working
  • 00:02:41
under Jason Lewis in the team and my
  • 00:02:44
fellow colleague Nanette uh from Cape
  • 00:02:46
Town is is on the call as well today so
  • 00:02:49
pleasure to meet you all I know some of
  • 00:02:50
you might have seen some of these slides
  • 00:02:52
before but I've also put in since uh
  • 00:02:55
January as well so we'll write up the
  • 00:02:57
date around where T1 rugby is across the
  • 00:02:59
the world and happy to share everything
  • 00:03:02
    that we have that
  • 00:03:04
today so just to give you a bit of a
  • 00:03:06
context around and the sort of agenda
  • 00:03:08
for the presentation I think it's really
  • 00:03:10
important when I've done this with other
  • 00:03:12
    Regional associations to give some
  • 00:03:14
background and context around T1 rugby
  • 00:03:17
    to give you the
  • 00:03:21
narrative of course the bulk of the the
  • 00:03:24
session will be around the game design
  • 00:03:26
okay and The Branding and T1 rug be
  • 00:03:28
explained so hopefully you go away after
  • 00:03:29
this hour doing a lot more around T1
  • 00:03:32
rugby than when you did at the start
  • 00:03:34
    also then highlighting the resources
  • 00:03:35
that we have available I'll give you a
  • 00:03:37
brief update of the current picture
  • 00:03:41
where we feel the next steps next steps
  • 00:03:43
are uh is a miss me to say I should have
  • 00:03:45
said at the start Yen has got a copy of
  • 00:03:47
this presentation already so after the
  • 00:03:50
after the call you know he'll happily
  • 00:03:51
send it over to yourself so please feel
  • 00:03:54
free don't don't need to take
  • 00:03:55
photographs or anything like that you
  • 00:03:57
will have a copy of the of the full
  • 00:03:58
presentation as we as we go forward
  • 00:04:01
there are a few videos embedded in it
  • 00:04:03
and our learnings from doing the whole
  • 00:04:05
project around T1 rugby Sometimes using
  • 00:04:08
video through a teams or Zoom type of
  • 00:04:11
format doesn't do the videos justice so
  • 00:04:13
I'll skip the videos and you can watch
  • 00:04:15
them in your own Leisure Time you know
  • 00:04:17
you know post the call but it's it's two
  • 00:04:19
or three included in the presentation
  • 00:04:21
which you will have access to post post
  • 00:04:24
    this
  • 00:04:25
session so T1 rugby we launched it to
  • 00:04:28
the membership doing General assembly in
  • 00:04:30
in Rugby World Cup 23 in October uh it's
  • 00:04:34
a it's been a huge priority program for
  • 00:04:37
for World rugby to create a non- cont
  • 00:04:39
product and I was very fortunate to to
  • 00:04:42
be uh quite a quite a key figure really
  • 00:04:44
in the development of the of the format
  • 00:04:46
working with certain unions to make sure
  • 00:04:48
that we get it to the position that is
  • 00:04:50
    currently in
  • 00:04:52
today you know basically we we identify
  • 00:04:56
the need for a non- contct game you know
  • 00:04:58
the broad and the reach you know we got
  • 00:05:00
a fantastic product around 15s and
  • 00:05:02
sevens you know we don't want to deta
  • 00:05:05
from that but what we wanted to do is to
  • 00:05:07
increase our sort provision and increase
  • 00:05:09
our markets now you know like like I saw
  • 00:05:12
    really around there hundreds of
  • 00:05:14
different formats out there in the
  • 00:05:15
    market you know different providers
  • 00:05:17
    providing alternative formats but
  • 00:05:19
there's nothing that world rugby had as
  • 00:05:21
his as his own product and at the start
  • 00:05:23
of the journey we we done a huge amount
  • 00:05:25
of desktop research around is it one out
  • 00:05:28
there already that we could use
  • 00:05:30
but it was you know and around the
  • 00:05:32
consultation that we had with all unions
  • 00:05:34
that it feel that none of them really
  • 00:05:36
out like Rugby Union lots of the
  • 00:05:38
products out there doesn't really do
  • 00:05:40
justice to the great game of ours so we
  • 00:05:42
feel that we we had to get into this
  • 00:05:44
space and we have to work really hard to
  • 00:05:46
make sure we put it there we have a
  • 00:05:48
group within World rugby called the game
  • 00:05:50
group that meet weekly really to discuss
  • 00:05:52
all topics uh around rugby across the
  • 00:05:55
world and they give four guiding
  • 00:05:57
principles to myself and the and the
  • 00:05:58
project group really that you know
  • 00:06:00
creating this non- cont product had to
  • 00:06:03
have a couple of guiding principles one
  • 00:06:05
it has to be accessible and no entry is
  • 00:06:07
entry the barriers it has to be easy to
  • 00:06:10
understand okay looks like Rugby Union
  • 00:06:13
and and it was an energy towards touch
  • 00:06:16
now easy to understand rugby is a
  • 00:06:18
complex game okay we're the only sport
  • 00:06:20
that runs forward passes back we have
  • 00:06:22
lots of instances like set pieces
  • 00:06:24
    breakdown areas very tactical and
  • 00:06:27
Technical elements of our game so trying
  • 00:06:29
to something easy and something quite uh
  • 00:06:32
simplistic for people to pick up is
  • 00:06:34
quite a difficult task looks like Rugby
  • 00:06:36
Union and I'll talk about this quite a
  • 00:06:38
lot throughout the presentation and I
  • 00:06:40
make no apologies around it lots of our
  • 00:06:42
    alternative Provisions have key
  • 00:06:44
principles of other sports so lots of
  • 00:06:47
    alternative games potentially could pass
  • 00:06:48
the ball forward you could put put your
  • 00:06:50
ball between the legs you know like a
  • 00:06:52
roll Ball but that doesn't happen in a
  • 00:06:54
rugby union game there's very few
  • 00:06:56
instances that that that would happen so
  • 00:06:59
we want to make sure that our T1 rugby
  • 00:07:01
product really looks and feels like
  • 00:07:03
Rugby Union and from the initial
  • 00:07:05
feedback that we had so far that's
  • 00:07:07
probably been his key strength as we go
  • 00:07:10
forward you know the two words that I
  • 00:07:13
highlighted in this slide really and it
  • 00:07:14
come from the New Zealand Rugby Union as
  • 00:07:16
part of the working group you know lots
  • 00:07:18
of we didn't want people to feel that
  • 00:07:20
playing a non- contct version of game
  • 00:07:21
year on the outside of our rugby family
  • 00:07:24
and you're not part of the of the Rugby
  • 00:07:26
Club and the and and the rugby the rugby
  • 00:07:28
establishment so we needed to make sure
  • 00:07:30
there was a legitimate and credible
  • 00:07:31
version of our game so when we had
  • 00:07:34
decisions to make around the game design
  • 00:07:36
and when we had decisions to make around
  • 00:07:38
the look and feel of the game does it
  • 00:07:40
look legitimate and does it look
  • 00:07:41
credible you know and I think it's
  • 00:07:42
really important that you know that
  • 00:07:44
context and background from the four
  • 00:07:46
guiding principles but also from a
  • 00:07:48
legitimate incredible point of view and
  • 00:07:51
me it make it look and feel like Rugby
  • 00:07:53
Union so we so this is it and I think
  • 00:07:56
Jason Lewis my line manager is on the
  • 00:07:58
call you know we say we have three
  • 00:08:00
formats of rugby we have 15s aside we
  • 00:08:02
have seven aside and we have T1 rugby
  • 00:08:05
you know and that's our vision going
  • 00:08:06
forward so it is part of it you know
  • 00:08:08
    that you're not a T1 rugby player you're
  • 00:08:10
just a rugby player and it's a game for
  • 00:08:12
    everyone played by
  • 00:08:14
anyone just theot next couple of slides
  • 00:08:17
really is the sort of Journey that we
  • 00:08:18
went on so this is not something that
  • 00:08:20
was just put together really quickly it
  • 00:08:22
was around a 2-year program that
  • 00:08:24
involved around 15 for sorry about 14 15
  • 00:08:27
    unions heavily involved in technical
  • 00:08:30
staff coming on board to do that it
  • 00:08:32
started with a members uh Union
  • 00:08:34
questionnaire that went out to all of
  • 00:08:35
you and said is there a need for a non-
  • 00:08:37
contct version and the answers from that
  • 00:08:40
question here really set this game uh
  • 00:08:42
game group project up you know we
  • 00:08:45
done hours and hours of global Pilots
  • 00:08:48
you know so we we we tried and errored
  • 00:08:51
lots of the sort of game design and the
  • 00:08:53
processes that we had to do you know
  • 00:08:54
around there so from the from the fields
  • 00:08:57
of Stelling BOS and South Africa to the
  • 00:08:59
home unions in Europe um to LA and and
  • 00:09:03
Singapore in Asia and Vietnam you know
  • 00:09:05
we we we done lots of global Pilots
  • 00:09:07
around that just to make sure that we we
  • 00:09:09
    tried it with different
  • 00:09:11
demographics um different ages Etc on
  • 00:09:14
that so from us we really comfortable
  • 00:09:16
around that we really tried and tested
  • 00:09:19
you know that process the constant
  • 00:09:21
    consultation was really important to
  • 00:09:22
make sure that we brought member unions
  • 00:09:24
on board with us you know throughout
  • 00:09:26
that the game design and probably where
  • 00:09:29
I probably spent a lot of my time that's
  • 00:09:31
that's the easy bet you know that's
  • 00:09:32
that's rugby people being in the room
  • 00:09:34
and looking at the analysis and the
  • 00:09:36
Insight that you're getting one of the
  • 00:09:38
real difficult parts of this program was
  • 00:09:40
obviously the naming and branding of
  • 00:09:41
that you know the Unicorn name is not
  • 00:09:44
out there you know and and we're pretty
  • 00:09:46
you know we've been pretty clear on that
  • 00:09:48
but you know we' done a lot of work and
  • 00:09:50
we and we and we tried and tested again
  • 00:09:53
and kept to the same guiding principles
  • 00:09:54
that we landed on T1 rugby and I'll talk
  • 00:09:57
around that narrative around the name as
  • 00:09:59
that's really important if you're going
  • 00:10:00
to be launching this in your unions and
  • 00:10:02
when you're embedding it into your rugby
  • 00:10:04
Pathways from there and obviously we
  • 00:10:06
launched it in October just some of the
  • 00:10:09
figures for you you know and and all
  • 00:10:11
this footage is available if people
  • 00:10:13
wanted to look at the pilot sessions and
  • 00:10:15
look at all the game analysis and the
  • 00:10:17
and the and the Insight that we gain
  • 00:10:19
from that you know that that was a real
  • 00:10:21
good piece of work from us as a as as a
  • 00:10:23
working group because we felt that
  • 00:10:25
everyone had a voice everyone listened
  • 00:10:27
everyone contributed um and we really
  • 00:10:30
believe that this is a real joint effort
  • 00:10:32
to create T1 rugby the way it is
  • 00:10:37
today just to touch now on the on the
  • 00:10:40
narrative and The Branding of of of T1
  • 00:10:42
rugby you know it's touch it can be
  • 00:10:46
played in The Touch version it can be
  • 00:10:47
played in the tag version but it is one
  • 00:10:49
rugby you know it's you know any
  • 00:10:52
decision we had to make around the game
  • 00:10:54
we know we always landed back to what it
  • 00:10:56
looks like in the 15er side and sevener
  • 00:10:57
side you know game of that and making
  • 00:10:59
sure is's legitimate and credible but
  • 00:11:01
you got to build your own narrative
  • 00:11:03
around that you know touch together one
  • 00:11:05
game you know it's just rugby you know
  • 00:11:07
but also as World rugby have a
  • 00:11:09
responsibility across the world it has
  • 00:11:10
    to be globally recognizable and
  • 00:11:13
translatable so we landed on T1 rugby we
  • 00:11:16
tested that out into the market we felt
  • 00:11:18
that it fitted it's a little bit
  • 00:11:20
different as well it's a bit sexier it's
  • 00:11:22
a bit is a bit more edgy you know to
  • 00:11:25
compared to what we probably have in our
  • 00:11:26
    own portfolio currently and it's
  • 00:11:28
something that we want around that so
  • 00:11:30
like I said we keep going back to 15er
  • 00:11:32
    side s side and T1
  • 00:11:35
rugby you see some of the branding
  • 00:11:37
images and and I'm more than happy to
  • 00:11:39
share when when Yen sends out the
  • 00:11:41
presentation I'll send out the brand
  • 00:11:43
guidelines for you guys to to use and
  • 00:11:45
and maximize and utilize you know
  • 00:11:47
throughout your programs some of you are
  • 00:11:48
already using it which is which is great
  • 00:11:50
to see um but you know we got this real
  • 00:11:53
look and it looks a little bit different
  • 00:11:54
than what we currently have you know and
  • 00:11:55
    that's something that was really
  • 00:11:56
important you know for us so hopefully
  • 00:12:00
that covers off the sort of background
  • 00:12:01
and context you know and I'm more than
  • 00:12:03
    happy to pick up individual
  • 00:12:05
conversations with unions if you wanted
  • 00:12:07
to go a little bit more deeper into that
  • 00:12:09
but really now we come on to the sort of
  • 00:12:11
game itself you know and you know we're
  • 00:12:14
extremely happy with the way that this
  • 00:12:16
has played out and the feedback that
  • 00:12:17
we've had already from 60 plus unions
  • 00:12:20
that already put T1 rugby into the into
  • 00:12:23
the rugby landscape since October has
  • 00:12:26
been fantastic so it's s aside played on
  • 00:12:28
    half a pitch
  • 00:12:29
it's our only format the game that males
  • 00:12:31
and females can play together you know
  • 00:12:33
and that was really important for us to
  • 00:12:35
make it really accessible uh you know
  • 00:12:37
for all and I'll touch on some of the
  • 00:12:39
key elements which I'm sure the rugby
  • 00:12:42
technical experts in your Unions would
  • 00:12:44
really like to see but it's our own
  • 00:12:46
breakdown it's our own kick in it's our
  • 00:12:48
own a setpiece element which we you know
  • 00:12:50
really pleased that is is embedded in
  • 00:12:53
into this all these resources that I'll
  • 00:12:55
be shown in the next couple of slides
  • 00:12:57
they're on a they're on our website for
  • 00:12:59
you to download and use they're in uh
  • 00:13:01
French and Spanish currently but I know
  • 00:13:04
    other unions have already translated
  • 00:13:05
them into their own languages to help
  • 00:13:07
with the ease of of roll out but just uh
  • 00:13:11
just to touch on we felt as a working
  • 00:13:14
group that rugby has certain DNA you
  • 00:13:16
know and it's really important that this
  • 00:13:18
is this looks and feels like Rugby Union
  • 00:13:20
and these were the the sort of four key
  • 00:13:22
areas uh kick in scrums and line outs
  • 00:13:26
now as a as an ex front row forward I
  • 00:13:28
didn't do much kicking in my Rugby
  • 00:13:30
career but lots of people tell me that
  • 00:13:32
kicking is a real fun part of the game
  • 00:13:34
and you know is a real enjoyable part
  • 00:13:36
for that so we tried it without kicking
  • 00:13:39
we tried it with kicking the one thing
  • 00:13:40
that kicking does provide is the actual
  • 00:13:42
skill itself you know so wherever you're
  • 00:13:45
placing it into your pathway having the
  • 00:13:47
ability to kick in a non-c cont format
  • 00:13:49
without that pressure of contact it's a
  • 00:13:52
it's a fantastic asset but also it
  • 00:13:54
creates space and it m relates the
  • 00:13:56
defensive lines you know you know around
  • 00:13:59
that non-c contct space traditionally in
  • 00:14:01
in traditional touch games it's very
  • 00:14:03
much uh line online defense so it's
  • 00:14:06
really you know not much space there but
  • 00:14:08
the ability to put the ball through and
  • 00:14:10
behind uh a defensive line you know
  • 00:14:13
    really changes the the characteristics
  • 00:14:15
of the game now as a front row forward I
  • 00:14:17
love scrums and line outs so it's really
  • 00:14:19
important that they were in there but
  • 00:14:22
this this comes into really making it
  • 00:14:24
look credible and legitimate so it's a
  • 00:14:26
it's a restart it's as simple as that
  • 00:14:28
you know we could have quite easily
  • 00:14:29
tapped them past and and played but you
  • 00:14:32
know forming a line out a three on three
  • 00:14:34
line out a three on three scrum
  • 00:14:36
    uncontested you know using the
  • 00:14:38
fundamental skills of throwing the ball
  • 00:14:40
in uh placing the ball into the scrum
  • 00:14:42
hooking the ball in the scrum to come
  • 00:14:44
back you know they are excellent
  • 00:14:46
examples where this could be placed in
  • 00:14:47
any part of your pathway of introducing
  • 00:14:49
the game to players that that never
  • 00:14:51
played before but also then for players
  • 00:14:54
that you know are coming back into the
  • 00:14:56
game so they really you know they they
  • 00:14:58
understand what we're trying to do we
  • 00:15:00
probably spent around six months looking
  • 00:15:02
at the breakdown area that was the
  • 00:15:04
fundamental part of of how this game
  • 00:15:06
works and we created a situation where
  • 00:15:09
it's two attackers and three Defenders
  • 00:15:11
and and lots of the resources you see we
  • 00:15:14
talk around this Golden Triangle where
  • 00:15:16
there's more defenders in it than than
  • 00:15:18
    than attackers So that obviously
  • 00:15:20
automatically helps the the attackers in
  • 00:15:23
this space you know so we're always
  • 00:15:25
creating overload situations to do that
  • 00:15:27
and we spent lots of analysis time
  • 00:15:30
looking about the sort of flow of the
  • 00:15:32
game to make sure that you do that so
  • 00:15:34
every breakdown area instead of putting
  • 00:15:36
the ball on the floor and and putting it
  • 00:15:37
through your legs and running back five
  • 00:15:39
10 Metter which we don't do in in 15
  • 00:15:42
aside and S aside rugby we actually
  • 00:15:44
create a breakdown area uh you know on
  • 00:15:46
that the ball is kept off the floor
  • 00:15:48
which is great for if you're playing the
  • 00:15:50
game in in grass or in concrete or in
  • 00:15:52
sports halls or on beaches um you know
  • 00:15:56
    it's a it's a sport that can be played
  • 00:15:58
above that so you know please have a
  • 00:16:01
look at the videos around the breakdown
  • 00:16:02
area online it explains it really well
  • 00:16:05
um and and it makes the game really
  • 00:16:07
exciting from an attacking point of
  • 00:16:10
view just I put this line I put this
  • 00:16:12
slide in really just it's a breakdown of
  • 00:16:15
the breakdown of the of the rules but
  • 00:16:17
the the bit I want to draw your
  • 00:16:19
attention to really is the bit on the
  • 00:16:20
right so we have our game on uh
  • 00:16:23
flexibility uh across our 15s and sens
  • 00:16:26
games now in the community rugby space
  • 00:16:28
where you you know you can match numbers
  • 00:16:30
um you can fix the sort of pitch sizes
  • 00:16:32
Etc so we want to make it have a global
  • 00:16:35
feel but b a local flexibility towards
  • 00:16:38
that so it can be played in touch and
  • 00:16:39
tag you know some count said to us that
  • 00:16:42
potentially we could go a one-on-one
  • 00:16:44
lineup contest with no lift you know the
  • 00:16:47
breakdown area you know if the three
  • 00:16:49
Defenders are in before the two
  • 00:16:51
attackers go in could we potentially
  • 00:16:52
turn the ball over in a breakdown like
  • 00:16:54
it happens in the normal 15 as side or
  • 00:16:56
seven side game of rugby you know
  • 00:16:59
it could have two players having two
  • 00:17:00
touches before stopping but you know
  • 00:17:03
from our point of view we've created a
  • 00:17:04
core set of rules which is T and rugby
  • 00:17:07
but we have you have the ability and
  • 00:17:09
power then to flex to suit your
  • 00:17:10
environment which I think is really H
  • 00:17:13
Forward Thinking and and a really
  • 00:17:15
    adaptive adaptive approach that we've
  • 00:17:16
taken so take some time to have a look
  • 00:17:18
at those game on and and and some of
  • 00:17:21
that as an example the breakdown area
  • 00:17:24
contest if you put that in the speed of
  • 00:17:26
the game is so much quicker on that
  • 00:17:30
so that's the game itself moving on to
  • 00:17:32
the sort of resources that we' provided
  • 00:17:34
we wanted to get enough resources out
  • 00:17:36
there from for the start of this year so
  • 00:17:38
people can start using it and utilizing
  • 00:17:40
it so we have the game infographic we
  • 00:17:42
have a rules infographic we have a short
  • 00:17:45
rules document if you're like for myself
  • 00:17:47
that just wants to get out there and
  • 00:17:48
start playing but also then we have long
  • 00:17:50
long rules document which is I think I
  • 00:17:53
got our laws department down to seven
  • 00:17:55
pages you know so that we really tried
  • 00:17:57
and tested you know these these these
  • 00:18:00
rules we have lots of explainer videos
  • 00:18:03
and every part of the game broken down
  • 00:18:05
we have a match manager sheet we didn't
  • 00:18:07
want to be too formal around refereeing
  • 00:18:09
we just wanted people to get out there
  • 00:18:11
and and and to help just facilitate
  • 00:18:14
games and then also then we're going to
  • 00:18:16
be building more resources as we go so
  • 00:18:19
these are examples that you can download
  • 00:18:21
    for yourself on on the
  • 00:18:23
website I just want to touch on the
  • 00:18:25
right hand side of this slide since
  • 00:18:27
    we've launched in October
  • 00:18:29
unions already come back to us and said
  • 00:18:31
that you know it's going down really
  • 00:18:33
well but we need some more resources so
  • 00:18:36
we're currently probably 60% in of
  • 00:18:39
    building a full schools curriculum
  • 00:18:40
around T1 rugby so that will be for
  • 00:18:43
primary school age secondary school high
  • 00:18:45
school age and University where that
  • 00:18:47
will be six to eight weeks lesson plans
  • 00:18:50
with around 30 activities around lesson
  • 00:18:52
    organizers assessment grids everything
  • 00:18:55
that you would need to go into a school
  • 00:18:56
or educational setting that would be a
  • 00:18:59
huge amount of resource which we're
  • 00:19:01
going to be putting online in in the
  • 00:19:03
summer which I'm sure that you could
  • 00:19:05
    adapt to your educational establishments
  • 00:19:07
in your countries but the work will be
  • 00:19:09
done for you every session every
  • 00:19:12
activity up to what T1 rugby is that is
  • 00:19:16
that'll be created ready for the summer
  • 00:19:18
we're exploring around the T1 rugby app
  • 00:19:20
you know just so that we can get the
  • 00:19:22
information out there to the people who
  • 00:19:24
are running the WhatsApp groups to get
  • 00:19:26
these activities running but also then
  • 00:19:28
    actually collecting data around that
  • 00:19:30
that's probably a longer project and and
  • 00:19:32
we're exploring that will Rugby of how
  • 00:19:34
we can utilize that for our unions do
  • 00:19:37
that another one that will be up by the
  • 00:19:39
summer will be lots of people already
  • 00:19:41
running T1 rugby events you know through
  • 00:19:44
a multiple settings um so we got an
  • 00:19:46
    events checklist that we're producing
  • 00:19:48
that you can download use give to your
  • 00:19:51
volunteers that are running those events
  • 00:19:53
to make sure that you cover off
  • 00:19:54
everything uh that you need to to make
  • 00:19:56
    it a fantastic um spec
  • 00:19:59
also then we've had feedback saying um
  • 00:20:02
it's a great referee tool to develop
  • 00:20:04
    referees within unions because obviously
  • 00:20:06
we have a breakdown we have a set piece
  • 00:20:08
we have the flow of the game which is
  • 00:20:10
needed so we're looking at developing a
  • 00:20:12
more of a a user friendly rugby referee
  • 00:20:15
resource you know around that because T1
  • 00:20:17
rugby is not also developing players and
  • 00:20:20
and engaging players it can also help
  • 00:20:22
with match officials which we have found
  • 00:20:24
out and also people have come back to us
  • 00:20:26
and said look we just want to see full
  • 00:20:27
    games in action
  • 00:20:29
so next Friday we're already starting to
  • 00:20:31
to to film some live games just so that
  • 00:20:34
people can see the game in in full flow
  • 00:20:37
so you know we believe we have a full
  • 00:20:39
    comprehensive list of resources there
  • 00:20:41
which is plenty enough for you to get up
  • 00:20:43
and go in and start working but like
  • 00:20:45
always throughout this project we all
  • 00:20:47
listen to the membership and if
  • 00:20:48
membership is asking us for more
  • 00:20:50
resources or different ones that we're
  • 00:20:52
    not thinking around we'll certainly
  • 00:20:53
explore and see if that could
  • 00:20:56
happen you know this is probably the
  • 00:20:58
most important slide of the presentation
  • 00:20:59
for people who don't know about T1 rugby
  • 00:21:02
this is the link that everything is on
  • 00:21:04
and like you said over the next couple
  • 00:21:05
of months more resources more videos
  • 00:21:08
will be going on onto that please feel
  • 00:21:11
free to send any sort of footage um
  • 00:21:14
social media coverage to yens that is
  • 00:21:16
happening in your unions we just love to
  • 00:21:19
to to to bank that and to load and to
  • 00:21:22
and to keep a record really of
  • 00:21:24
everything that is happening you know
  • 00:21:25
across the world and and and it's
  • 00:21:27
fabulous to see but you know for us I
  • 00:21:30
would recommend for all your staff
  • 00:21:31
within your unions or your coaches you
  • 00:21:33
know please ask them to to go there at
  • 00:21:35
the moment like I said is in French
  • 00:21:37
Spanish and English and some other
  • 00:21:39
    countries have already translated into
  • 00:21:41
    their into their
  • 00:21:42
language the last couple of the slides
  • 00:21:45
really is around and I we always put
  • 00:21:47
this in as a participation team really
  • 00:21:49
just thinking about the art of the
  • 00:21:51
possible of T1 rugby because although
  • 00:21:53
it's really important for where it fits
  • 00:21:54
into your union you know I just want to
  • 00:21:56
give you that sort of global approach
  • 00:21:58
you know you know we believe this is
  • 00:22:00
another format of the game which will
  • 00:22:03
definitely give us 1 million new
  • 00:22:04
community social players you know and
  • 00:22:07
that that's really important for us to
  • 00:22:08
grow that fan base to grow that
  • 00:22:10
participation element of the game you
  • 00:22:12
know we've really got to maximize the
  • 00:22:14
mix playing opportunity and it's the
  • 00:22:16
first and now game the males and females
  • 00:22:18
of all ages can play together you know I
  • 00:22:21
have no doubt and Jason will be pushing
  • 00:22:22
me on this where does it look around
  • 00:22:24
    cross border and international
  • 00:22:25
    opportunities going forward you know
  • 00:22:28
that you know that's a real um piece of
  • 00:22:31
work that we that we'll be exploring and
  • 00:22:33
and working with unions on that what
  • 00:22:35
that looks like I don't know but I think
  • 00:22:37
it's important to state that that
  • 00:22:39
potentially that could happen I have no
  • 00:22:41
    doubt that commercial opportunities will
  • 00:22:43
arise from T1 rugby because of the the
  • 00:22:45
accessible nature of it and the amount
  • 00:22:47
of people that be playing it and I'm
  • 00:22:49
certainly something that you could put
  • 00:22:50
in your portfolio uh to to try and grab
  • 00:22:54
but also then just to try and grab some
  • 00:22:56
new you know whole community of new fans
  • 00:22:59
so that's the art of the possible to
  • 00:23:00
bring this game you know game to life
  • 00:23:03
and this is where we're working as World
  • 00:23:04
    rugby on
  • 00:23:05
that and I just put it then from a
  • 00:23:08
global point of view to a to a regional
  • 00:23:10
and and and a union you know where does
  • 00:23:12
T1 rugby fit now I could to put five or
  • 00:23:15
six boxes you know even more on on this
  • 00:23:18
slide but you know the the easy pickings
  • 00:23:20
for us would be around the educational
  • 00:23:22
establishments but it's got to be more
  • 00:23:24
than that we don't want T1 rugby to be
  • 00:23:26
seen as a sort of X sens that he just
  • 00:23:28
sits on the shelf and he gets brought
  • 00:23:30
out when it needs to you know does can
  • 00:23:32
it be really embedded into your rugby
  • 00:23:34
    landscape and your development Pathways
  • 00:23:37
is it in a club or School setting are
  • 00:23:39
you going to put it as a as a sort of
  • 00:23:42
regular activity within no settings is
  • 00:23:45
it one that you're going to use at a
  • 00:23:46
social level that you know for adults
  • 00:23:48
only uh to come together never played
  • 00:23:51
game before it it it lends perfectly to
  • 00:23:54
those Mass participation events and I'll
  • 00:23:56
talk about some of the events that I've
  • 00:23:58
seen across the world already you know
  • 00:23:59
to do that but really give us some
  • 00:24:02
thought around that placement now I
  • 00:24:03
probably spoke to around 12 to 14 unions
  • 00:24:06
in Europe already about where they see
  • 00:24:08
it around referee development around the
  • 00:24:11
school setting around the Vets product
  • 00:24:13
around the social summer league you know
  • 00:24:16
it's all different types of the people
  • 00:24:18
are really thinking around but where do
  • 00:24:20
you think it's best placed and where do
  • 00:24:21
you think you can grow the game of rugby
  • 00:24:23
    using T1 within your
  • 00:24:26
union so the last bit really of the of
  • 00:24:28
the of the slide deck before we get into
  • 00:24:30
some questions is around just just a bit
  • 00:24:32
of an update so we've created another
  • 00:24:35
new working group really around just a
  • 00:24:37
roll out and looking at different
  • 00:24:38
opportunities for to making sure that
  • 00:24:41
that you know it's get it's it's having
  • 00:24:43
the impact that it needs to have you
  • 00:24:45
know around the world we've done some
  • 00:24:48
    huge participation events which you
  • 00:24:49
might have seen through social media
  • 00:24:51
channels around the Cape Town 7s and we
  • 00:24:53
got ones planned for n next running a
  • 00:24:55
huge win in Singapore and obviously
  • 00:24:57
    we'll be hopefully doing something
  • 00:24:59
around the Madrid sevens events we've
  • 00:25:01
    also looked at some commercial
  • 00:25:02
opportunities around Cape Town 10s as an
  • 00:25:04
example to do that and get around all
  • 00:25:07
    the regional engagement workshops just
  • 00:25:09
to make sure because our aim is very
  • 00:25:11
simple in U1 we want to get T1 rugby
  • 00:25:14
into every Union's hands you have to
  • 00:25:16
make sure that like I said I could put
  • 00:25:18
60 examples down there as Union
  • 00:25:20
adoptation but the reality is is where
  • 00:25:22
you see it best placed you know and
  • 00:25:24
there's been some great examples you
  • 00:25:26
know across the world where you ions are
  • 00:25:29
thinking around what to do with T1 rugby
  • 00:25:31
where can they get benefit from it and
  • 00:25:33
    how can they maximize
  • 00:25:35
it for us it's you know like I said we
  • 00:25:38
got some huge events that are coming up
  • 00:25:40
now around the spring summertime you
  • 00:25:41
know to do that I'm spending a lot of
  • 00:25:43
time around the resource development to
  • 00:25:46
make sure that you got more than enough
  • 00:25:47
resources to go into any environment uh
  • 00:25:50
to to to deliver T1 rugby you know on
  • 00:25:53
that which I spoke about already we're
  • 00:25:55
going to plan some real big highlight
  • 00:25:57
events you know just to show the art of
  • 00:26:00
the possible of what what could be done
  • 00:26:02
you've probably seen already from our
  • 00:26:04
world rugby participation projects our G
  • 00:26:07
2.0 our girls participation program our
  • 00:26:10
work with charitable Partners like Chun
  • 00:26:12
rugby a lot of it now is all endorsed
  • 00:26:14
through T1 rugby you know making sure
  • 00:26:17
that you know they're all aligned to
  • 00:26:18
make sure that we're all working
  • 00:26:20
together on that and also we keep on
  • 00:26:22
working around that legal and Commercial
  • 00:26:24
discussion around roll out because in
  • 00:26:26
some countries I have no doubt that the
  • 00:26:28
    commercial opportunity around T1 rugby
  • 00:26:30
you know will be huge so that's a real
  • 00:26:32
snapshot the flavor of where we
  • 00:26:34
    currently
  • 00:26:36
are and just to finish really you know
  • 00:26:39
I'm more than happy and I'm designated
  • 00:26:41
lead role on this to to talk to
  • 00:26:43
individually as a union you know around
  • 00:26:44
T1 rugby which I've done with so many
  • 00:26:46
unions already in Europe you know and if
  • 00:26:49
you'd like to spend an hour we can book
  • 00:26:50
some time in just to talk about you know
  • 00:26:53
what you see the future plans of T1
  • 00:26:55
rugby and where we could potentially
  • 00:26:57
    help so thank you for
  • 00:27:01
listening thank you Greg fantastic to
  • 00:27:05
work with a frro who actually delivers
  • 00:27:07
what he promised 25 minutes exactly that
  • 00:27:09
was I wasn't always used to that in my
  • 00:27:11
    playing
  • 00:27:12
time uh well done um I haven't had any
  • 00:27:15
questions coming up in the chat yet now
  • 00:27:17
I can say from personal experience I
  • 00:27:19
actually did Implement T1 rugby in my
  • 00:27:23
little Club here in Denmark as soon as
  • 00:27:25
we launched it and I've had great
  • 00:27:26
    success keeping uh
  • 00:27:28
my uh my players busy over the winter we
  • 00:27:31
only in Denmark have access to
  • 00:27:33
artificial Fields where we can't do
  • 00:27:35
anything contact wise so for us it has
  • 00:27:37
been a way of actually staying uh
  • 00:27:40
staying fit over the over the the winter
  • 00:27:42
time or the winter period and we've
  • 00:27:44
actually introduced as you said Greg uh
  • 00:27:46
we' joining us as well and parents that
  • 00:27:49
have never played rugby before I think
  • 00:27:50
it's a a great way of actually getting
  • 00:27:52
to another another understanding of our
  • 00:27:55
game which I think T1 actually does
  • 00:27:57
other and just playing touch so so well
  • 00:28:00
done in uh in coming up with this game
  • 00:28:02
I'm going to ask the floor here whether
  • 00:28:05
there's any good questions for Greg or
  • 00:28:07
any questions really so please raise
  • 00:28:10
your hand or write any comments you
  • 00:28:12
might have in the chat here we've got uh
  • 00:28:15
Mark so Mark's got the first question so
  • 00:28:17
Mark you can just unmute and ask the
  • 00:28:18
question if you want oh hi yeah good
  • 00:28:21
afternoon and uh firstly Greg I'd like
  • 00:28:23
to say this is a for us it's a fantastic
  • 00:28:27
initiative um um we we followed it when
  • 00:28:30
it when it first came out um we've
  • 00:28:33
already implemented it with in clubs
  • 00:28:36
    with under 12s and under
  • 00:28:38
14s um and they're just about to start
  • 00:28:40
it as a a mixed social um adult game to
  • 00:28:46
to um bring new players in and also to
  • 00:28:50
retain some of the the the players who
  • 00:28:53
have who've left um the sport uh here um
  • 00:28:57
one of the things we found we are
  • 00:28:59
finding is is how uh important where the
  • 00:29:04
where we have the set pieces now um the
  • 00:29:07
line outs and the scrums and the
  • 00:29:09
breakdown uh how this is really
  • 00:29:13
    improving the game understanding and
  • 00:29:15
let's say the muscle memory of the young
  • 00:29:18
players when they then move into into
  • 00:29:20
contact and move into um the yeah into
  • 00:29:24
sevens primarily for us so so this I I
  • 00:29:28
think the real highlight for us of this
  • 00:29:30
game is with the line outs with the
  • 00:29:32
scrums with the breakdown is the kids
  • 00:29:35
unlike with Touch where they just run
  • 00:29:36
    around in circles they're actually
  • 00:29:39
    getting the structure and an
  • 00:29:41
understanding of the game and then as we
  • 00:29:42
progress into competing for line outs or
  • 00:29:46
competing at scrums or whatever excuse
  • 00:29:48
me uh they already know where they
  • 00:29:50
should be and I think this is one thing
  • 00:29:52
that really should be highlighted and
  • 00:29:54
it's already starting to see uh not
  • 00:29:58
quite a specialization in positions but
  • 00:30:00
more of an understanding in positions so
  • 00:30:02
we really welcome what this has done and
  • 00:30:05
it and it has really filled a gap um for
  • 00:30:08
us because we had we had well we used
  • 00:30:12
with tag not with touch it so we had
  • 00:30:15
just mad tag and then we had the
  • 00:30:18
structured game and and this is really
  • 00:30:21
I'd just like to tell everybody this has
  • 00:30:22
really filled a gap and has been really
  • 00:30:24
important for a development in a in a
  • 00:30:27
    young
  • 00:30:28
and and small count such as
  • 00:30:32
    ours
  • 00:30:34
please yeah J I just I'll just respond
  • 00:30:36
to that um one of the one of the key
  • 00:30:38
things that we don't flex you know
  • 00:30:40
around T1 rugby and what I've advised
  • 00:30:42
the unions is that the set piece restart
  • 00:30:45
and the breakdown is is not for
  • 00:30:47
negotiation that is T1 rugby because you
  • 00:30:49
know to keep it credible to keep it
  • 00:30:51
legitimate to keep back to those four
  • 00:30:53
guiding principles of the game group you
  • 00:30:56
know that's what it makes look and feel
  • 00:30:57
    like rugby
  • 00:30:58
so you can Flex numbers you can Flex pit
  • 00:31:01
sizes you can put some contestable areas
  • 00:31:03
in if you if you really want to but you
  • 00:31:06
know the bits that you're talking around
  • 00:31:07
sorry the key elements of rugby that
  • 00:31:09
you're talking around is why we designed
  • 00:31:11
the game you know and and like I said
  • 00:31:13
it's great to hear that you got it at
  • 00:31:15
under the 12's level but also then
  • 00:31:16
looking at an adult level because you
  • 00:31:19
know we we we solely believe as well rby
  • 00:31:22
that we just don't want to see this as a
  • 00:31:23
as a children's and as a kids product
  • 00:31:26
you know this is a this is across all
  • 00:31:28
    the development Spectrum around
  • 00:31:29
especially our adults and and and vets
  • 00:31:31
rugby so yeah really pleasing Mark what
  • 00:31:33
    what unions
  • 00:31:36
yourself sorry in Kosovo Ando nice to
  • 00:31:39
meet you also we've also started to
  • 00:31:41
introduce it in the schools in North
  • 00:31:43
Macedonia but they're not a federation
  • 00:31:46
yet but yeah so we're doing it there in
  • 00:31:47
the schools program also thank you Mark
  • 00:31:52
B off Mark um I will give the word to
  • 00:31:54
Chris and then I'll take a few comments
  • 00:31:56
from the chat so Chris you
  • 00:31:59
are yeah so I was having trouble I've
  • 00:32:03
switched to zoom web because I had to
  • 00:32:05
update so I was having trouble finding
  • 00:32:07
where the raise hand so I put a question
  • 00:32:08
in the chat so you can ignore it because
  • 00:32:10
I'll ask it now um first off really
  • 00:32:14
really great I've been looking into this
  • 00:32:16
since I've heard about it and I've only
  • 00:32:18
heard about it a week ago so this is
  • 00:32:20
fantastic and I'll be implementing it
  • 00:32:22
here in Norway uh as much as I possibly
  • 00:32:25
can but what I wanted to ask you Greg is
  • 00:32:28
did you guys because a lot of the rules
  • 00:32:31
and a lot of the breakdowns seem to be
  • 00:32:33
around the same structure as rugby 7s
  • 00:32:36
did you guys look into an experiment
  • 00:32:38
    with rugby
  • 00:32:39
15s uh playing so that you have like a
  • 00:32:42
full field with 15 players on the field
  • 00:32:44
but still have the same breakdown Styles
  • 00:32:46
I just wondering if that's been explored
  • 00:32:48
a little bit Yeah Chris we you know
  • 00:32:51
throughout the the game design we
  • 00:32:52
probably took 12 months really looking
  • 00:32:54
at all different sizes of pitches uh but
  • 00:32:58
I'll summarize we probably created a
  • 00:33:00
game that was too quick you know and
  • 00:33:03
because that turns a lot of people off
  • 00:33:05
so sens now is a is a very conditioned
  • 00:33:08
highly highly skilled sport so you know
  • 00:33:12
it's really difficult to create a non-
  • 00:33:14
contct version because what contact does
  • 00:33:15
is slow the game up okay contact
  • 00:33:18
provides elements of the game that
  • 00:33:19
provides a a a slower Pace um or the
  • 00:33:23
flow of the game doesn't go as quick so
  • 00:33:25
we we Tri in error a lot right so so the
  • 00:33:28
biggest point and I probably skipped
  • 00:33:30
this over in the presentation one of the
  • 00:33:32
key strengths of T1 rugby is the
  • 00:33:34
attacking side can control the speed of
  • 00:33:36
the playe so you can wait until the
  • 00:33:39
third Defender comes in so the person
  • 00:33:42
who plays the ball away dictates the
  • 00:33:43
speed of the game so if you want to play
  • 00:33:45
quick you can but if you want to slow it
  • 00:33:47
down that's fine and the feedback that
  • 00:33:49
we had from participants a lot of the
  • 00:33:52
alternative games out there and the non-
  • 00:33:53
contct games were too quick so take me
  • 00:33:56
as an example as a retired front or
  • 00:33:58
forward I'd love to play touch rugby but
  • 00:34:01
it could be too quick you know but
  • 00:34:02
because we can control the speed of the
  • 00:34:04
game so you can dial it up or you can
  • 00:34:06
dial it down but the time that you play
  • 00:34:08
the ball away that makes it more
  • 00:34:10
accessible for people to play and we've
  • 00:34:12
done a great pilot and I see some of the
  • 00:34:14
scotch Rugby Union guys here we went up
  • 00:34:16
the at the curry up in Scotland and we
  • 00:34:19
used a youth team okay so quite a good
  • 00:34:21
standard youth team and we were playing
  • 00:34:23
all different variations of of rules Etc
  • 00:34:26
we wanted to make sure sure that the
  • 00:34:28
game is played at the right speed so we
  • 00:34:30
don't want it too quick and we don't
  • 00:34:31
want it too slow the only way you can do
  • 00:34:33
that is having the person who's playing
  • 00:34:35
the ball away dictate that and we just
  • 00:34:37
felt that that was the way and on your
  • 00:34:40
question on the chat we we listened to a
  • 00:34:43
lot of the participant feedback during
  • 00:34:45
all the pilots and currently as people
  • 00:34:47
are playing um it's interesting what
  • 00:34:50
Mark said we don't really want to create
  • 00:34:52
positions in T1 rugby so you know if the
  • 00:34:55
ball is knocked on and it's a scrum we
  • 00:34:57
just want nearest three people to go
  • 00:34:59
what will be finding already people are
  • 00:35:01
say oh I'm a back so I stand out there
  • 00:35:03
we want to create this environment where
  • 00:35:05
    everyone's just playing in every
  • 00:35:06
position but you know as we evolve and
  • 00:35:08
as we get more feedback in the first
  • 00:35:10
year we we'll look into situations like
  • 00:35:13
that but is really a game for everyone
  • 00:35:15
and we want everyone to play all
  • 00:35:17
positions yeah because as uh as someone
  • 00:35:19
who normally plays rugby 15s um I can
  • 00:35:23
see easily adapting this into uh just
  • 00:35:26
    getting positional
  • 00:35:28
practice into play a lot of it is very
  • 00:35:31
very very good for getting the position
  • 00:35:34
whereas in traditional touch rugby it is
  • 00:35:38
not there's there's no Union 15 or Union
  • 00:35:41
    sens even
  • 00:35:43
positional teaching done and involved so
  • 00:35:46
this is this is really great I really
  • 00:35:47
like it and I I was speaking to a
  • 00:35:50
country in in South America Union in
  • 00:35:52
South America and they they using T1
  • 00:35:54
rugby as a sort of girls introductory a
  • 00:35:56
female introductory game because of the
  • 00:35:58
fundamental parts of throwing the ball
  • 00:36:00
in at the scrum the hook in passing the
  • 00:36:03
ball away from a scrum half type of
  • 00:36:05
action you know so they're seeing some
  • 00:36:07
of the key elements to do that so that's
  • 00:36:09
where they're placing it but like I said
  • 00:36:10
take your time as a union think where
  • 00:36:12
you feel is best placed and where you
  • 00:36:14
think the best markets are for you know
  • 00:36:16
for that but what I'm trying to do in
  • 00:36:18
these calls is give you examples of how
  • 00:36:21
unions are are utilizing T1 rugby no
  • 00:36:24
this is perfect thank you very much for
  • 00:36:25
    this I appreciate the answer
  • 00:36:29
    yeah I think you've answered Frederick's
  • 00:36:31
uh comment about actual feedback from
  • 00:36:33
    players great because you have
  • 00:36:37
that um then Michael has asked a
  • 00:36:41
question here from Denmark and that
  • 00:36:43
might be hinted that his his a country
  • 00:36:47
    fellow Countryman
  • 00:36:49
here how are we going to make this
  • 00:36:51
accessible in local languages not only
  • 00:36:52
Denmark I assume but uh so he wants the
  • 00:36:55
    material translated into Danish
  • 00:36:58
uh so I don't think we have any plans
  • 00:37:01
right now it's in Spanish and French
  • 00:37:03
right yes we got we as a as a as a
  • 00:37:06
company and as an organization we we
  • 00:37:08
    translate everything into French and
  • 00:37:10
Spanish and hopefully that Unions would
  • 00:37:12
take that on board and and utilize their
  • 00:37:14
channels to you know to translate that
  • 00:37:16
um you know that's how we can answer
  • 00:37:18
that Yen but you know I think we looking
  • 00:37:20
into there has a lot of AI tools at the
  • 00:37:23
moment that can uh that can actually
  • 00:37:25
help us translate probably even some of
  • 00:37:27
the the video material or or even
  • 00:37:29
countries can do themselves so so the AI
  • 00:37:32
we looking into how can we do that and
  • 00:37:34
help make that access in all languages
  • 00:37:37
and the other part the answer there we
  • 00:37:38
are exploring that T1 rugby app which
  • 00:37:40
would solve those type of issues around
  • 00:37:42
the resourcing so you know but like I
  • 00:37:44
said that's a longer term project in
  • 00:37:46
2024 but we s we certainly started that
  • 00:37:49
so you know I think the T1 rugby app
  • 00:37:51
would would be a potential solution to
  • 00:37:54
that Michael you want to add something I
  • 00:37:56
see you came online yeah it's just uh it
  • 00:37:59
would be really helpful and if if we can
  • 00:38:01
get it in our local language and uh I
  • 00:38:04
understand that it's will be difficult
  • 00:38:07
to translate into all languages for your
  • 00:38:10
for World rugby but perhaps the cost of
  • 00:38:13
that could be covered locally but it
  • 00:38:15
would be nice if there was uh some sort
  • 00:38:18
of a setup where we could access the
  • 00:38:20
material and know that you got to
  • 00:38:22
contact these people and they can help
  • 00:38:23
you out that would be yeah that's a
  • 00:38:26
point Michael yeah real good point yeah
  • 00:38:28
I mean I actually see in the chat rck uh
  • 00:38:31
I might chat with him on Sunday about
  • 00:38:33
this but uh so so actually he's
  • 00:38:35
suggesting to use chat gbg for this and
  • 00:38:37
and that's what I'm saying we are
  • 00:38:38
    looking into how help
  • 00:38:41
us we we need the files we need all the
  • 00:38:44
Practical stuff on how do we do this so
  • 00:38:48
    yeah thanks
  • 00:38:50
thanks um I think that was it for
  • 00:38:53
question in the uh in the in the chat
  • 00:38:56
for now is there any other yes Neil
  • 00:38:59
Johnson the word is yours go
  • 00:39:04
    on
  • 00:39:06
hello yeah I was going to say I've
  • 00:39:08
worked in the business with the
  • 00:39:09
translation and basically I think uh
  • 00:39:12
you're talking about resources out the
  • 00:39:14
way I would say this is one of the most
  • 00:39:16
important resources you can have because
  • 00:39:19
as Greg pointed out this can be used at
  • 00:39:21
the top level or at the absolute bottom
  • 00:39:23
level in schools that have no idea of
  • 00:39:26
    rugby no culture Trad
  • 00:39:28
and a lot of the the teachers in the
  • 00:39:30
schools that's what that's what you meet
  • 00:39:32
like it's a language problem you know
  • 00:39:33
you can't read it you won't buy into it
  • 00:39:36
um I know that world rugby can actually
  • 00:39:38
    translate straight from their database
  • 00:39:40
because I've worked with that with them
  • 00:39:42
and I I I would suggest if you could
  • 00:39:45
just work off that T1 side of the side
  • 00:39:48
of the the database and just get those
  • 00:39:50
translated I think it'd be great to be
  • 00:39:52
honest I think that would that would be
  • 00:39:54
a huge breakthrough and it wouldn't be a
  • 00:39:56
    high cost resource
  • 00:39:58
wise without going down to AI because AI
  • 00:40:01
is a bit like Google translate it can be
  • 00:40:05
    gibberish
  • 00:40:07
yeah yeah we have people that know more
  • 00:40:10
about that than I do but I think there's
  • 00:40:12
some really good AI help tools actually
  • 00:40:14
at the moment that are a lot better than
  • 00:40:16
Google translate used to be in the
  • 00:40:17
beginning but again I'm not the expert
  • 00:40:19
on that but we're looking into
  • 00:40:23
it all right any more uh questions for
  • 00:40:27
    for Greg or
  • 00:40:30
myself no just to reiterate Yen that you
  • 00:40:33
know like I said if individual unions
  • 00:40:36
wanted to to have some time with us to
  • 00:40:38
to talk around where they fitted into
  • 00:40:39
their rugby development I probably like
  • 00:40:42
I said all you know 60 plus unions
  • 00:40:45
already adopting it our aim is to get in
  • 00:40:47
the hands of everyone of the 140 across
  • 00:40:50
the world this year and like I said keep
  • 00:40:52
an eye out for some of the big content
  • 00:40:54
creation and some of the events that we
  • 00:40:55
doing to create a buzz around T1 rugby
  • 00:40:58
but like I said even the small projects
  • 00:41:00
and and and using it in different
  • 00:41:02
demographics is really important for us
  • 00:41:04
you know I know is some countries in
  • 00:41:06
Europe looking at University formats you
  • 00:41:08
know things like that that's really
  • 00:41:10
exciting for us to make sure that we get
  • 00:41:11
    across the full rugby
  • 00:41:15
landscape yeah great uh so as as Greg
  • 00:41:20
already promised I'm going to be sharing
  • 00:41:21
the uh presentation that Greg has used
  • 00:41:23
today it contains a few uh very helpful
  • 00:41:26
links uh and it has some videos that are
  • 00:41:30
very website and I think Greg we also
  • 00:41:33
discussing how can we continue sharing I
  • 00:41:35
guess some of the good stories with our
  • 00:41:37
Network here uh as I wrote out in the in
  • 00:41:40
the initial email that uh that I sent
  • 00:41:42
when I invited you for this we have
  • 00:41:44
created actually for Europe a rugby
  • 00:41:47
Europe Development Group where where I'm
  • 00:41:50
actually going to suggest that we're
  • 00:41:51
going to share good stories so when you
  • 00:41:53
guys progress on using this and have
  • 00:41:55
some good uh experiences with this then
  • 00:41:57
uh then please help share them there for
  • 00:42:00
the benefit of other unions and the rest
  • 00:42:02
of us I think that'll be very helpful
  • 00:42:04
now and obviously if you are not on the
  • 00:42:06
group already then I'll share the link
  • 00:42:08
again in my followup to this call uh so
  • 00:42:10
please also use that as a space to uh to
  • 00:42:14
to share good experiences but again if
  • 00:42:16
you have something really uh essential
  • 00:42:18
then please reach out to Greg and myself
  • 00:42:21
um we're happy to to help and try and
  • 00:42:24
    guide on
  • 00:42:26
this if there's no more questions I
  • 00:42:28
don't want to keep you uh unnecessarily
  • 00:42:30
long in the middle of the day Greg you
  • 00:42:32
want a hand up there no all good and L
  • 00:42:35
to meet you all and like I said if
  • 00:42:36
anyone want to be in touch you know
  • 00:42:38
    please feel free
  • 00:42:41
to great I see more more hands then I
  • 00:42:44
think that was it for now from our side
  • 00:42:46
I'm gonna give you a follow up here and
  • 00:42:48
then share the link to everything here
  • 00:42:50
so thanks for now and have a good day
  • 00:42:52
out there and see some of you for the r
  • 00:42:54
    finals this
  • 00:42:56
    weekend
  • 00:42:58
    thanks for
  • 00:42:58
    [Music]
  • 00:43:01
    now
