- 00:00:00this isn't going to be a
- 00:00:01one-size-fits-all but my ultimate advice
- 00:00:03here is
- 00:00:04twofold don't overthink it don't overdo
- 00:00:06it
- 00:00:07even if you have viewers it's not your
- 00:00:10viewers job to entertain you
- 00:00:12it's your job to entertain them and i
- 00:00:14think a lot of small streamers
- 00:00:15forget that what i really want to show
- 00:00:17you is look at the thumbnails go for one
- 00:00:19of these spots that one it's not
- 00:00:21covering up anything in your gameplay
- 00:00:22and two it's not going to be covered up
- 00:00:24by any of the twitch
- 00:00:25ui you are your own competition

- 00:00:43you so much for joining
- 00:00:44i'm hey shady lady if you are a
- 00:00:46returning subscriber i just want to let
- 00:00:48you know that i've converted this
- 00:00:49channel pretty much entirely into only
- 00:00:50twitch tutorials
- 00:00:52so if you have anything in specific
- 00:00:53you'd like to see me talk about please
- 00:00:54let me know in the comments below or
- 00:00:56anything in this video that you want to
- 00:00:57see me
- 00:00:58go further in detail about let me know
- 00:01:00and i can make more videos on that
- 00:01:03[Music]
- 00:01:04this is going to be a short but
- 00:01:06hopefully thorough presentation on how
- 00:01:08you could get started on twitch
- 00:01:09now and theoretically create a
- 00:01:11successful platform for yourself
- 00:01:12i actually collaborated a little bit
- 00:01:14with my friend duke stamina
- 00:01:16on writing a script for this because he
- 00:01:18just recently switched over from being
- 00:01:20like an irl content creator a musician
- 00:01:23performer who mostly was on facebook but
- 00:01:26found that he was struggling with
- 00:01:28growing a new following or expanding his
- 00:01:30following
- 00:01:30and even monetizing it all and so i
- 00:01:33finally convinced him to come on to
- 00:01:34twitch because i think twitch is primed
- 00:01:36for both of those things
- 00:01:37he was a brand new into the twitch world
- 00:01:39didn't know much about it at all
- 00:01:40any of the tools you needed or anything
- 00:01:42like that so this video is created with
- 00:01:44him in mind and people who are just
- 00:01:46getting into twitch now and don't even
- 00:01:48really know where to start or what to do
- 00:01:50or anything like that i do have a script
- 00:01:52that i've prepared so
- 00:01:53if it seems like i'm reading from a
- 00:01:55script it's because i am but i just feel
- 00:01:57like i deliver the information a little
- 00:01:58bit better when i do that
- 00:01:59this whole video i'm kind of designed
- 00:02:01around the meta of twitch right now
- 00:02:04what's currently working on twitch and
- 00:02:05what has been for the last
- 00:02:06year or so a lot of things have changed
- 00:02:09in the last four to five years on twitch
- 00:02:11and what's working on the platform
- 00:02:12what's selling what gets people to click
- 00:02:14and all of that so i kind of want to
- 00:02:16cover it as well as i can i'm going to
- 00:02:18be making follow-up videos where i spend
- 00:02:20much longer going into
- 00:02:22gratuitous detail on everything so make
- 00:02:25sure you subscribe and hit the
- 00:02:26notifications if you want to keep up
- 00:02:27with that
- 00:02:28if you're already a streamer you may
- 00:02:29find some of this information
- 00:02:31a little patronizing because i am coming
- 00:02:33at this from the perspective of you
- 00:02:35really don't know much about twitch or
- 00:02:36the platform at all
- 00:02:37so sorry about that but maybe you can
- 00:02:39still gain some value from this
- 00:02:42[Music]
- 00:02:44you're ready to start streaming but have
- 00:02:45you sat down and thought to yourself
- 00:02:46what does it take to be a good streamer
- 00:02:48and how can i do that
- 00:02:50what exactly is your job as a streamer
- 00:02:52what qualities does a successful
- 00:02:53streamer need
- 00:02:54you can look some of the bigger content
- 00:02:56creators and kind of pull some of this
- 00:02:57information why are people subscribing
- 00:02:59what is he doing
- 00:03:00or she doing well what do they offer and
- 00:03:02the five qualities that i think are the
- 00:03:04most important your job is to entertain
- 00:03:06number one number two being consistent
- 00:03:09in schedule and vibes
- 00:03:11three being self-aware to honestly
- 00:03:13reflect on yourself
- 00:03:14of what your strengths and weaknesses
- 00:03:16are which is going to lead
- 00:03:18into you being able to niche well for
- 00:03:20being innovative
- 00:03:21wherever you can be and five leadership
- 00:03:25so just to dive in a little bit as far
- 00:03:28as
- 00:03:28your job is to entertain when people are
- 00:03:31logging into twitch they're usually
- 00:03:33looking for some kind of distraction
- 00:03:35from their life whether they're just
- 00:03:36getting home from a job
- 00:03:37you're really wanting to give them a
- 00:03:38space where they can escape and enjoy
- 00:03:41and they want to find a chill place
- 00:03:43where they can feel connected to others
- 00:03:44with a similar passion or
- 00:03:46interest so oftentimes you don't even
- 00:03:47need to do this big show
- 00:03:49with all of these bells and whistles
- 00:03:50it's really just the idea of being able
- 00:03:52to go
- 00:03:53and hang out with someone whose
- 00:03:54personality they like that attracts an
- 00:03:56audience or
- 00:03:56a community of people with similar
- 00:03:58energy while they're playing league of
- 00:04:00legends or while they're
- 00:04:01doing their makeup or whatever your
- 00:04:03interest happens to be they're just
- 00:04:05looking for that nice comfy little spot
- 00:04:06to chill if you're a content consumer
- 00:04:08you know what i'm talking about you're
- 00:04:09going to a specific channel consistently
- 00:04:11because they bring the same type of
- 00:04:13energy every time
- 00:04:14this is leading us right into consistent
- 00:04:16with schedule and vibes
- 00:04:19you don't want to start streaming one
- 00:04:21day and be raging out and yelling at
- 00:04:23overwatch and what the
- 00:04:25like angry and then the next day you're
- 00:04:27doing asmr
- 00:04:28and hello everyone welcome into all this
- 00:04:30like chill comfortable quiet space
- 00:04:32because at that point your audience is
- 00:04:34confused you're probably even confused
- 00:04:36as a content creator i'm speaking from
- 00:04:37experience here i'm the queen of
- 00:04:39bouncing back and forth between
- 00:04:41so many different content types to the
- 00:04:42point where it's kind of like shot my
- 00:04:44own growth in the leg which is why i'm
- 00:04:46giving this advice if you're just
- 00:04:47starting out and you're trying to
- 00:04:49shoot long term pick something and run
- 00:04:52with it for a while until you start to
- 00:04:53build a kind of consistent
- 00:04:55regular fan base at a certain level of
- 00:04:57growth you would be able to branch out
- 00:04:59of a schedule or branch out of a
- 00:05:01specific content style that you've set
- 00:05:03for yourself
- 00:05:03but to begin with you're just trying to
- 00:05:05build momentum
- 00:05:06so even if you can only commit to one
- 00:05:09day a week
- 00:05:10right now and that's all do it at least
- 00:05:12set yourself some kind of schedule so
- 00:05:14that you can tell your audience when
- 00:05:15they come in yeah
- 00:05:16my next stream is going to be this day
- 00:05:19at this time and we're going to be doing
- 00:05:20this
- 00:05:21because then you can at least deliver
- 00:05:22the message and you might have some
- 00:05:24returning viewers from one stream to the
- 00:05:26other
- 00:05:26and it's all about building your
- 00:05:27momentum in the beginning and getting
- 00:05:30those like three viewers five viewers
- 00:05:32seven viewers bumping you up higher in
- 00:05:34the category so you can get more
- 00:05:35visibility
- 00:05:36self-awareness is one that i wanted to
- 00:05:38include because it's important
- 00:05:40you're going to have some trolls come in
- 00:05:42and say some mean things to you or
- 00:05:44whatever and if you lose your temper
- 00:05:45lose your cool
- 00:05:46and just kind of start raging out at
- 00:05:48them you want to think of yourself like
- 00:05:49a comedian on stage and you've got
- 00:05:50someone in the crowd heckling you
- 00:05:52think about when you watch comedians and
- 00:05:54they lose their cool and they're like oh
- 00:05:56this guy sucks get him out of here i
- 00:05:57can't believe he's ruining my show
- 00:05:59as compared to the comedian that can
- 00:06:01keep their cool and
- 00:06:03riff off of it make a joke off of it and
- 00:06:05then the whole audience is laughing
- 00:06:06instead of the whole audience being like
- 00:06:08cringed out and embarrassed because this
- 00:06:09guy
- 00:06:10the performer just completely lost his
- 00:06:12cool this is kind of like just being
- 00:06:14self-aware being able to take a joke
- 00:06:16being able to understand like yeah i do
- 00:06:18kind of have a goofy smile yeah i do
- 00:06:20kind of laugh like that yeah you know
- 00:06:22that that's a that's funny like lol
- 00:06:24instead of
- 00:06:25it's just it's not only going to help
- 00:06:26you but it's going to help your audience
- 00:06:27just feel
- 00:06:28more comfortable it's also important to
- 00:06:30have the ability to
- 00:06:31assess what you're doing right or wrong
- 00:06:33without blaming
- 00:06:34others for where you are and that's the
- 00:06:37most important thing
- 00:06:38it's so easy to be like well you know
- 00:06:40i'll i would be a popular streamer too
- 00:06:42if i had five thousand dollars worth of
- 00:06:44gear
- 00:06:44i would be a popular streamer too if i
- 00:06:46had that specific look i'd be a popular
- 00:06:48streamer too if i was doing this
- 00:06:49as opposed to just like looking at
- 00:06:51yourself what can you offer what are you
- 00:06:52bringing to the table and how can you
- 00:06:54capitalize on that
- 00:06:55how can you create an audience and a
- 00:06:57platform around what you have to offer
- 00:06:59instead of trying to measure yourself
- 00:07:00against every other person
- 00:07:02and then being angry at other people's
- 00:07:04success
- 00:07:05you are your own competition nobody
- 00:07:07else's
- 00:07:09being a streamer is already a very
- 00:07:11innovative field to go into in the first
- 00:07:13place
- 00:07:13it's still not very mainstream to be
- 00:07:15able to explain to people what a stream
- 00:07:17i'm a streamer and then i'll really
- 00:07:19understand what you're saying
- 00:07:20but on top of being a streamer you still
- 00:07:23need to be more innovative you need to
- 00:07:25be able to take risks and try things
- 00:07:27that you've never seen people do before
- 00:07:29just because you're like i have this
- 00:07:30idea that i kind of want to
- 00:07:32i want to do a stream from my garden
- 00:07:34where i'm also drinking a beer
- 00:07:37and talking about this movie that i just
- 00:07:40saw
- 00:07:40and why it's a bad movie like and then
- 00:07:43boom right there you've got this really
- 00:07:44interesting content style like
- 00:07:46you know you've already got like a
- 00:07:48content style it's like garden boy movie
- 00:07:50reviews or something you know what i
- 00:07:51mean
- 00:07:52it's a really interesting concept but
- 00:07:53you you might think to yourself like
- 00:07:54well everyone just streams from their
- 00:07:56room with these like
- 00:07:57gamer lights in the background and all
- 00:07:59of these like
- 00:08:00hit 17 buttons and i do all these crazy
- 00:08:02zoom ins on my face and stuff and
- 00:08:04if i don't do that then i won't be a
- 00:08:05successful streamer meanwhile
- 00:08:08doing gamer boy movie reviews with a
- 00:08:10beer is nothing that's being done right
- 00:08:12now
- 00:08:12so you're bringing something new to the
- 00:08:14table you're innovating in a field
- 00:08:16you're going against the norms you're
- 00:08:18standing out so think about what you
- 00:08:20enjoy doing like or
- 00:08:21even something that you want to try and
- 00:08:22put into your life a little bit more
- 00:08:25the final point that i want to talk
- 00:08:26about what makes a good streamer is
- 00:08:28leadership and i think that this is the
- 00:08:30most important and one that comes with
- 00:08:31experience and time
- 00:08:33i think this is the most important
- 00:08:34quality streamer content creator
- 00:08:37influencer your job is to lead your
- 00:08:39community your job is being the leader
- 00:08:42you have to take responsibility you have
- 00:08:43to make decisions keep your word when
- 00:08:45you say what you're gonna do
- 00:08:46do what you say mean what you say say
- 00:08:48what you mean and show up when others
- 00:08:50need you to show up
- 00:08:50when companies are reaching out to
- 00:08:52influencers they're doing this because
- 00:08:54that person is
- 00:08:55leaning they are a leader of their
- 00:08:57community and people listen to the
- 00:08:59leader so they're like hey leader tell
- 00:09:01them to buy our product
- 00:09:02basically
- 00:09:04[Music]
- 00:09:06i also think it's important to address
- 00:09:07actually think what does success mean to
- 00:09:09you
- 00:09:09does success look like a lot of
- 00:09:11followers does it look like a lot of
- 00:09:13chat interaction
- 00:09:14does it look like getting into the field
- 00:09:16to be able to do voice acting long term
- 00:09:18is it about having the ability to
- 00:09:19express yourself freely are you trying
- 00:09:21to make money
- 00:09:22are you looking for opportunities are
- 00:09:23you trying to build a community
- 00:09:25what exactly is it that you want out of
- 00:09:27streaming
- 00:09:28that way you don't get sidetracked
- 00:09:30because you don't understand what your
- 00:09:32goals are
- 00:09:32and so you're just sitting here looking
- 00:09:34at the view count and feeling depressed
- 00:09:36even though your whole goal the whole
- 00:09:37time was to advertise the fact that you
- 00:09:39have an album coming out or
- 00:09:41advertise the fact that you also crochet
- 00:09:44and you have an etsy shop or something
- 00:09:46think about what it is that you're
- 00:09:47actually trying to accomplish from
- 00:09:48streaming
- 00:09:50[Music]
- 00:09:52another thing that i want to mention is
- 00:09:54to understand
- 00:09:55why you're streaming in the moment like
- 00:09:57what are you hoping to get out of that
- 00:09:58stream i think this is really important
- 00:10:00because if you go onto your stream and
- 00:10:01you stream for six hours playing league
- 00:10:03of legends or something and you're
- 00:10:04sitting at zero to one viewers maybe no
- 00:10:07one's really talked to you the whole
- 00:10:08time
- 00:10:08and by hour four five six you're
- 00:10:10starting to get angry and depressed
- 00:10:12you're feeling like you wasted your time
- 00:10:14and no one cares about me
- 00:10:15and this is such a this is such a waste
- 00:10:17i'm such a loser all of these like this
- 00:10:19downward spiral
- 00:10:20what did you want to accomplish out of
- 00:10:22the stream anyway and this is why i
- 00:10:23think it's important for streamers to be
- 00:10:25content creators on other platforms
- 00:10:26because immediately you can counteract
- 00:10:28this by just going into your stream
- 00:10:30with the idea of at the end of this
- 00:10:32stream i want to have
- 00:10:33three hours of footage that i can edit
- 00:10:36up into a youtube video that i can use
- 00:10:38for other purposes
- 00:10:39and then even if you don't have any
- 00:10:40viewers or people chatting to you
- 00:10:42you still have valuable content at the
- 00:10:44end of it that you can
- 00:10:46change and transform into something else
- 00:10:49[Music]
- 00:10:51so now that you're kind of getting a
- 00:10:52feeling for what you need to be
- 00:10:54as far as a content creator goes what
- 00:10:56you need to bring to the table as a
- 00:10:58content creator
- 00:10:59let's look at what's already on the
- 00:11:00table we're gonna do a little
- 00:11:02stream theory here and talk about the
- 00:11:04current twitch meta or the most
- 00:11:06effective tactics
- 00:11:07available a year or two ago the recipe
- 00:11:10for success used to be
- 00:11:11streaming eight hours a day five days a
- 00:11:13week 40 hours a week
- 00:11:14right hyper focusing on one game title
- 00:11:17or one genre
- 00:11:18i stream 40 hours of overwatch every
- 00:11:20week i stream 40 hours of dead by
- 00:11:22daylight every week
- 00:11:23times have changed the current meta is
- 00:11:26all about cross promoting your content
- 00:11:27across multiple platforms
- 00:11:28i have seen multiple people blow up
- 00:11:31because they've had a couple of viral
- 00:11:33twitter videos they'll post some kind of
- 00:11:34funny twitter skit or something
- 00:11:36and then they build an audience on
- 00:11:38twitter and then the next thing you know
- 00:11:39they've gone from 20 average viewers on
- 00:11:41twitter to 90 average viewers to 130 to
- 00:11:44getting twitch partner
- 00:11:45just because they've built a little bit
- 00:11:47of clout on another platform
- 00:11:48so now we're going to switch over to a
- 00:11:50screen capture so i can show you guys a
- 00:11:52little bit of statistics
- 00:11:53so i'm on a website called twitch
- 00:11:55tracker over here there's another
- 00:11:56website called sully gnome
- 00:11:58which will give you similar information
- 00:12:00i'm going to click on
- 00:12:02stats overview and we're going to look
- 00:12:04at some statistics for the twitch
- 00:12:06website you can see here
- 00:12:07this is from 2013 to 2020
- 00:12:11and this is concurrent viewers on twitch
- 00:12:14and you can see very clearly the curve
- 00:12:17here
- 00:12:17and specifically april of 2020
- 00:12:21this spiked like crazy which coincides
- 00:12:23with kovid everyone
- 00:12:25is stuck at home looking for something
- 00:12:27to do it's a really good time to be a
- 00:12:28streamer right now
- 00:12:29as twitch has grown for viewers it's
- 00:12:31also grown for streamers so there is a
- 00:12:33lot of competition right now
- 00:12:35these are average concurrent channels
- 00:12:36from 2012 2000 concurrent channels in
- 00:12:382012
- 00:12:39to 83 000 concurrent channels in 2020
- 00:12:43which just means channels live at the
- 00:12:44same time we've gone from 300
- 00:12:46000 broadcasters a month in 2012 to 6
- 00:12:50million broadcasters in 2020 twitch
- 00:12:52partners
- 00:12:533 000 in 2012 to 45 000
- 00:12:56in 2020. even just since the start of
- 00:12:582020 in the aftermath of global events
- 00:13:00you can see the amount of streamers has
- 00:13:02dramatically spiked
- 00:13:03competition for viewers is at an
- 00:13:04all-time high but this is also a time
- 00:13:07where people have more time than usual
- 00:13:08to consume media for the viewer account
- 00:13:10is also spiked in a similar manner
- 00:13:12in other words this is one of the best
- 00:13:14times to try your hand at becoming a
- 00:13:16streamer
- 00:13:16there has never been more information
- 00:13:18available or more viewers available
- 00:13:20for this however because there are so
- 00:13:22many people streaming
- 00:13:24the recipe for success has changed
- 00:13:26instead of streaming 40 hours plus a
- 00:13:28week in my opinion
- 00:13:29your time is better served by streaming
- 00:13:30in smaller intervals while focusing the
- 00:13:32rest of the time you would have spent
- 00:13:34streaming
- 00:13:35on creating off-stream content building
- 00:13:37authority on another platform gives
- 00:13:38people more of a reason to care that
- 00:13:40you're live in the first place
- 00:13:41and you're also creating scarcity of
- 00:13:43your own content driving up the need to
- 00:13:45catch you in the moments you are live
- 00:13:46we're going to dive into this a little
- 00:13:48bit deeper when we talk about scheduling
- 00:13:49later
- 00:13:50this website has a lot of interesting
- 00:13:52information but you can come down here
- 00:13:54and see
- 00:13:54here it looks like there are the most
- 00:13:56viewers available on saturdays but
- 00:13:58there's also the most streamers
- 00:14:00available
- 00:14:01the second most viewers available are on
- 00:14:03sunday but we've got a drop down
- 00:14:05in streamers so i think sundays in my
- 00:14:07opinion
- 00:14:08right now are one of the prime days to
- 00:14:10stream it looks like sundays and
- 00:14:12probably like
- 00:14:13probably like a thursday or a friday
- 00:14:15later in the week there's more
- 00:14:16there's there's a little bit more
- 00:14:18viewers here towards the weekend
- 00:14:20but there's not as many streamers yet
- 00:14:22there's the most streamers available on
- 00:14:24saturday so as a streamer you have the
- 00:14:25highest competition on saturday
- 00:14:27and then looking at games just chatting
- 00:14:29is definitely our
- 00:14:30most popular category right now this is
- 00:14:32the last seven days so you can see among
- 00:14:34us
- 00:14:34has been a big popping one so i would
- 00:14:36actually not recommend either of these
- 00:14:38two categories for a small streamer
- 00:14:40i would recommend something down here in
- 00:14:42this little section so like a
- 00:14:44hearthstone dead by daylight
- 00:14:46apex music these are categories that
- 00:14:49have a lot of viewers but they're going
- 00:14:50to have a little bit less
- 00:14:52competition i still think there are
- 00:14:53better choices we'll talk about this a
- 00:14:55little bit later though i still think
- 00:14:56there are better choices than picking
- 00:14:58these really popular game categories
- 00:15:00okay there's a lot there's a lot of
- 00:15:01juicy information on twitch tracker so i
- 00:15:03would
- 00:15:04recommend peeking at it
- 00:15:07[Music]
- 00:15:08so now to talk about how to be
- 00:15:10entertaining there are strategies to
- 00:15:11have more fulfilling streams in the
- 00:15:12beginning even if you don't have an
- 00:15:14audience
- 00:15:14i've gone in depth on how to talk to
- 00:15:16yourself when no one is there in another
- 00:15:18video which will be linked below
- 00:15:19but to summarize it you want to fill
- 00:15:21dead space by narrating your thoughts or
- 00:15:23your inner monologue
- 00:15:24out loud learn to talk to yourself
- 00:15:25whether people are responding to you in
- 00:15:27chat or not even if you have viewers
- 00:15:30it's not your viewers job to entertain
- 00:15:32you it's your job to entertain them
- 00:15:34and i think a lot of small streamers
- 00:15:36forget that because you'll hear them
- 00:15:38like oh chat's so dead is it what are
- 00:15:39y'all doing
- 00:15:40is everyone okay like they're constantly
- 00:15:41trying to get chat to talk to them
- 00:15:43which is good you want chad engaged but
- 00:15:45you really just need to be able to sit
- 00:15:46back and vibe
- 00:15:47and let chat enjoy what you're making
- 00:15:49here are a few quick tips to add
- 00:15:51entertainment value to your streams
- 00:15:53improving your improv skills which is
- 00:15:55can boil down to stay in the moment
- 00:15:56learn to say yes and just a quick google
- 00:15:59on
- 00:15:59improv skills will help making the
- 00:16:01audience part of the show
- 00:16:02bringing them in work on your
- 00:16:04storytelling skills have strong
- 00:16:06listening skills whether that's to chat
- 00:16:08a guest you might have on the episode or
- 00:16:10scenes in the game
- 00:16:11add more enthusiasm from a place of
- 00:16:13authenticity
- 00:16:14don't fake being funny or try to be
- 00:16:16sarcastic if it's not what you're
- 00:16:17naturally gifted with and i have a
- 00:16:19recommended video here by bryant
- 00:16:21chambers
- 00:16:22legacy that talks a lot about this get a
- 00:16:24little more physical
- 00:16:25talk with your hands dance on stream to
- 00:16:27celebrate a raid here's a really good
- 00:16:29example of a
- 00:16:30fantastic entertainer mr chan chan
- 00:16:33dancing doing a little helicopter dance
- 00:16:36whenever people raid him and even ninja
- 00:16:38is kind of well known for the pon pond
- 00:16:39dance
- 00:16:40so you can even exaggerate you don't
- 00:16:42have to get up and show your full body
- 00:16:43if you aren't comfortable with that but
- 00:16:44exaggerate your body movements to tell a
- 00:16:46story or react only go as far as you're
- 00:16:49comfortable to
- 00:16:50add additional camera angles or zoomed
- 00:16:51in scenes for comedic effect or more
- 00:16:53dynamic
- 00:16:54video content don't take yourself too
- 00:16:56seriously learn to laugh at yourself
- 00:17:00[Music]
- 00:17:01now we're going to talk about actually
- 00:17:03gaining followers on your platform
- 00:17:05the simple answer to gaining followers
- 00:17:07is
- 00:17:08make good content and stay consistent
- 00:17:10there's really not a formula
- 00:17:12or a secret recipe it's literally just
- 00:17:14make good content
- 00:17:15stay consistent put new content out
- 00:17:17every week that's good
- 00:17:19people will naturally follow that good
- 00:17:21content is an extremely subjective
- 00:17:23statement but you should be fine-tuning
- 00:17:25your craft constantly
- 00:17:26every day there's something you can
- 00:17:28improve upon whether it's upgrading your
- 00:17:30graphics tweaking your mic settings
- 00:17:32researching your niche for a deeper
- 00:17:34understanding
- 00:17:34or setting up a nicer backdrop there's a
- 00:17:36lot about understanding your identity
- 00:17:38that will result in people following you
- 00:17:40and sticking around for longer term
- 00:17:42which we'll discuss a little bit later
- 00:17:43when we get into niches
- 00:17:45here are my five tips for gaining a
- 00:17:46following mean what you say and say what
- 00:17:48you mean
- 00:17:49aka be trustworthy two don't be afraid
- 00:17:52to open up and share your story with
- 00:17:53your community
- 00:17:54be raw be real be authentic three
- 00:17:57celebrate your milestones with your
- 00:17:58community
- 00:17:59this could be 200 followers 500
- 00:18:01followers
- 00:18:02first 30 subscribers we got a new emote
- 00:18:05just hit affiliate have fun celebrations
- 00:18:08but don't go overboard please with the
- 00:18:1012 and 24 hour streams
- 00:18:12not necessary you can do you can do
- 00:18:14something simple like we wear a mario
- 00:18:16hat and play super mario or something
- 00:18:18you can do something cute and simple
- 00:18:19share your favorite stream moments on
- 00:18:21other platforms
- 00:18:22this goes two-fold because it's going to
- 00:18:24be earning you clout on other platforms
- 00:18:26like twitter or whatever
- 00:18:28but encourage your audience to clip your
- 00:18:29stream moments or go back at the end of
- 00:18:31the stream and pull out a spot where you
- 00:18:33remember
- 00:18:34oh this is really funny and then share
- 00:18:35it i forgot to mention that this also
- 00:18:37creates fear of missing out or fomo by
- 00:18:40your followers who weren't present
- 00:18:42during the stream when they see these
- 00:18:43moments it encourages them to be there
- 00:18:45for your next streams because they're
- 00:18:48like wow
- 00:18:48look how much fun i missed out on
- 00:18:50incorporate networking
- 00:18:52into your streaming practice to help get
- 00:18:54your name out there
- 00:18:55raiding is what i would recommend most
- 00:18:57if you do nothing else you don't have to
- 00:18:59go and spend hours in other people's
- 00:19:00streams every day
- 00:19:01but just raiding at the end of your
- 00:19:03streams will do miles and i can do a
- 00:19:04whole video on rating rating etiquette
- 00:19:07picking a good raid target etc let me
- 00:19:08know if that's something you're
- 00:19:09interested in
- 00:19:11[Music]
- 00:19:13finally we're going to be talking about
- 00:19:14finding your niche this subject
- 00:19:16deserves its own hour-long presentation
- 00:19:18and there's a ton of videos available on
- 00:19:20it but
- 00:19:20to put it simply you're trying to create
- 00:19:22content where you have a natural
- 00:19:24passion and you can provide a skill set
- 00:19:26to help you stand out to an audience
- 00:19:27that wants
- 00:19:28said content this sounds complicated but
- 00:19:30it could be as simple as i've always
- 00:19:32loved horror movies and i'm very good at
- 00:19:33storytelling and people want to be
- 00:19:35spooked and so you have your niche
- 00:19:37telling spooky stories in the just cat
- 00:19:39chatting category you look for stuff you
- 00:19:40love
- 00:19:41stuff you're good at and stuff people
- 00:19:43want and you want a
- 00:19:45combination of the three and just to
- 00:19:46talk more anecdotally for a second
- 00:19:48i didn't discover my niche until i've
- 00:19:50been experimenting with several
- 00:19:51different stream styles and started
- 00:19:53noticing
- 00:19:53trends and viewer count spiking with
- 00:19:55specific content so really
- 00:19:57you just want to buckle up for a lot of
- 00:19:58hit and miss style experimentation in
- 00:20:00the beginning it's best to start with
- 00:20:01your passion and just hold steady over a
- 00:20:03few weeks or even months
- 00:20:05until you can really start to analyze
- 00:20:07and notice trends and start to fine-tune
- 00:20:08your content down into a niche
- 00:20:10i think it probably took me a solid two
- 00:20:12years before i understood what my niche
- 00:20:14was
- 00:20:14and then another year or two on top of
- 00:20:16that before i finally yielded
- 00:20:18to becoming that type of content creator
- 00:20:20twitch tutorials
- 00:20:22[Music]
- 00:20:24now we're going to talk about scheduling
- 00:20:25your streams this isn't going to be a
- 00:20:27one size fits all
- 00:20:28but my ultimate advice here is twofold
- 00:20:31don't overthink it
- 00:20:32don't overdo it yes it's better practice
- 00:20:34to have a set schedule where you're live
- 00:20:36at the same time every week and that's
- 00:20:37the ultimate goal
- 00:20:38but to begin with you're really just
- 00:20:40trying to get yourself into the habit
- 00:20:42and rhythm of streaming
- 00:20:44there's no sense pushing for eight to
- 00:20:45twelve hour stream marathons in the
- 00:20:47beginning you're gonna demoralize
- 00:20:48yourself
- 00:20:49and burn yourself out in my opinion a
- 00:20:51great beginner schedule
- 00:20:52is two to three times a week two to four
- 00:20:55hours per stream you want to give your
- 00:20:56audience enough time to miss you
- 00:20:58allow time to pass so that you have
- 00:20:59stories about your life to tell them
- 00:21:01when you come back
- 00:21:02this also creates a scarcity around the
- 00:21:04service or content that you're providing
- 00:21:06so people are more likely to show up in
- 00:21:07the windows that you do provide where
- 00:21:09you're live this will help
- 00:21:10boost your average viewer count if
- 00:21:12you're live every day for eight hours a
- 00:21:14day
- 00:21:14your audience may think to themselves oh
- 00:21:16they're always online
- 00:21:17i can miss them today and i'll catch
- 00:21:18them tomorrow i also encourage you to
- 00:21:20feel out your audience
- 00:21:22if you're used to streaming two hours
- 00:21:23but you have a crazy active community
- 00:21:25that's really hyped up it wouldn't hurt
- 00:21:27to add another 30 minutes or another
- 00:21:28hour onto the end of your stream
- 00:21:30alternatively if you normally stream two
- 00:21:32hours and you see your chats kind of
- 00:21:33dying about an hour and a half in
- 00:21:35and you're starting to kind of like okay
- 00:21:37i'm done streaming
- 00:21:38you can just go ahead and end it an hour
- 00:21:39and a half you don't have to hit two
- 00:21:41hours every day or whatever
- 00:21:42the best advice i can give you for
- 00:21:44stream length is to go into your stream
- 00:21:46with some kind of
- 00:21:47goal for post stream content this will
- 00:21:49make a stream with a dead chat not hurt
- 00:21:51as much
- 00:21:52because you will still hopefully have
- 00:21:53hit your content goal and have enough
- 00:21:55footage to convert that stream into a
- 00:21:57twitter video or a youtube video
- 00:21:59and use that time you spent to your
- 00:22:00advantage by converting it to content on
- 00:22:03other platforms that could lead to more
- 00:22:04viewers on your next stream
- 00:22:06a final piece for advice for deciding
- 00:22:07when you should stream is to use a handy
- 00:22:09site like twitch tracker like we talked
- 00:22:11about earlier
- 00:22:12and get a feel for when the optimum time
- 00:22:13to stream is i can do an entire video
- 00:22:15analyzing the data on the site let me
- 00:22:17know if you're interested in that
- 00:22:18and it's worth checking twitch tracker
- 00:22:20every month or so because trends change
- 00:22:24rapidly
- 00:22:26okay now we're gonna talk about avoiding
- 00:22:28burnout i am the queen of burnout so all
- 00:22:31i can really tell you are signs to look
- 00:22:33out for that might signify burnout is
- 00:22:35approaching
- 00:22:36a growing cynicism or anger regarding
- 00:22:38streaming in general
- 00:22:40so feeling resentful of the success of
- 00:22:42others focusing more on your failures
- 00:22:44second where once you could laugh at a
- 00:22:46troll it's now angering you to the point
- 00:22:48of long-winded rants
- 00:22:49and sweaty palms three well-meaning
- 00:22:52community members making
- 00:22:54jokes at your expense suddenly irritates
- 00:22:56you or hurts your feelings
- 00:22:57four you dread the thought of going live
- 00:23:00five
- 00:23:01you keep making excuses for postponing
- 00:23:03your streams like
- 00:23:04i have a headache or i have to clean up
- 00:23:06or i'm just not feeling it tonight being
- 00:23:08a few prime examples and some of my
- 00:23:10personal favorites
- 00:23:11physical symptoms could be closely
- 00:23:13related to stress symptoms headaches
- 00:23:15stomach issues appetite changes anxiety
- 00:23:17heart rate up
- 00:23:18tense body general fatigue etc i'm not a
- 00:23:21doctor though
- 00:23:22google it yourself talk to your own
- 00:23:24doctor what number are we on seven
- 00:23:27seven lower performance and compensating
- 00:23:29by pulling
- 00:23:30longer hours or forcing yourself to
- 00:23:32stream more
- 00:23:33so your streams aren't as good and you
- 00:23:35feel like you need to hang in there even
- 00:23:36longer
- 00:23:37and force let me wait for that next raid
- 00:23:39my viewer count isn't high enough i need
- 00:23:41to do something else and just like
- 00:23:42really wearing yourself and dragging
- 00:23:44yourself out eight
- 00:23:46feeling lonely even when you're
- 00:23:47surrounded by people and this can be a
- 00:23:49virtual thing too
- 00:23:50pulling up your twitter and just feeling
- 00:23:52complete disconnect from everybody
- 00:23:54feeling like you are looking in from the
- 00:23:55outside and you are no longer part of
- 00:23:56the group
- 00:23:57nine having a hard time deciding what to
- 00:23:59stream and you just kind of fall back on
- 00:24:01whatever as long as i'm live or
- 00:24:03sometimes trying to do bigger and better
- 00:24:05streams than ever
- 00:24:0612 hour streams or fan demanded content
- 00:24:08that you're not really interested in
- 00:24:10doing
- 00:24:10even if you don't have the energy just
- 00:24:12for a regular stream
- 00:24:14i see people do this all the time when
- 00:24:15they're like oh stream's not working for
- 00:24:17me
- 00:24:17i just don't really know what i'm doing
- 00:24:18wrong you know what i'm just going to do
- 00:24:20a 12-hour stream tomorrow i'm just going
- 00:24:21to grind it out we're just going to go
- 00:24:23for it
- 00:24:23you're already disconnected and burnt
- 00:24:25out and unsure what you're doing in the
- 00:24:26first place why would you put yourself
- 00:24:28through that
- 00:24:28torment the other thing i want to say is
- 00:24:30burnout is going to look different for
- 00:24:31everybody so just learn
- 00:24:33yourself and understand what it looks
- 00:24:35like for you when you're no longer happy
- 00:24:37in what you're doing
- 00:24:38the big thing about burnout is that
- 00:24:39you're putting more energy into
- 00:24:41something than you are receiving in
- 00:24:42return so it's looking for a balance
- 00:24:44the best way to avoid burnout is to
- 00:24:46learn to recognize it and have the
- 00:24:48strength to back off and take it slower
- 00:24:50possibly even take a mini break and
- 00:24:52spend some time outdoors refresh your
- 00:24:54mind get grounded get back and you know
- 00:24:56take it take care of the laundry you've
- 00:24:57been ignoring
- 00:25:00[Music]
- 00:25:01now we're going to talk about networking
- 00:25:02basics networking is a mixture of making
- 00:25:05friends and making smart business moves
- 00:25:07the advice i give my friends who are
- 00:25:08just getting started is to spend some
- 00:25:10time in categories they plan to stream
- 00:25:12in and just be a viewer of that content
- 00:25:14surf around and find streamers that you
- 00:25:15like hanging out with follow them
- 00:25:17chat with them without mentioning your
- 00:25:18stream and potentially follow them on
- 00:25:20other platforms if you enjoy their
- 00:25:22content enough
- 00:25:22become part of their community and
- 00:25:24support them with no
- 00:25:26expectations i think that it's a good
- 00:25:28thing to shoot for making about one to
- 00:25:30two solid networking friends a week
- 00:25:32another major thing for networking is
- 00:25:34rating at the very end of every stream
- 00:25:35it doesn't matter if you have 10 viewers
- 00:25:37or two viewers you're adding your viewer
- 00:25:39account onto another streamers
- 00:25:41and sharing communities i think of this
- 00:25:43as cross-pollinating communities
- 00:25:45it's extremely rare someone is upset by
- 00:25:47receiving a raid
- 00:25:48although it does happen and i recommend
- 00:25:50that you vet streamers beforehand
- 00:25:52just to avoid dealing with an ungrateful
- 00:25:54streamer also remember that your
- 00:25:56reputation is currency when it comes to
- 00:25:58being a content creator
- 00:25:59every reaction you have is public and
- 00:26:01tells everyone what type of person and
- 00:26:03creator you are
- 00:26:04so be kind and mindful when interacting
- 00:26:07with others
- 00:26:10there is an unspoken twitch etiquette
- 00:26:12that i'd like to touch on
- 00:26:13uh and i'd like to touch on a few parts
- 00:26:15of it there's no official streamer
- 00:26:17etiquette anywhere it's just kind of an
- 00:26:19unspoken
- 00:26:20culture one don't mention you're a
- 00:26:22streamer in another streamer's chat
- 00:26:24unless they specifically ask this is
- 00:26:25seen a self-promotion
- 00:26:27most of the time it's polite to just not
- 00:26:29mention other streamers in someone
- 00:26:30else's channel unless it's brought up
- 00:26:32specifically
- 00:26:32two and a lot of new streamers do this
- 00:26:35don't call
- 00:26:36lurkers out a lurker is someone who
- 00:26:38shows up on your viewer list but hasn't
- 00:26:40talked in chat yet i know it can be
- 00:26:41tempting to have that viewer list open
- 00:26:43and say oh hey cooldoritoman22 when you
- 00:26:46see their name show up in the list but
- 00:26:48unless they've
- 00:26:48actively joined the conversation by
- 00:26:50saying something in your chat or setting
- 00:26:51an alert off by following
- 00:26:53etc don't force them into conversation
- 00:26:56it's called
- 00:26:57calling out lurkers and it can
- 00:26:58potentially just make them leave the
- 00:27:00channel and i know that
- 00:27:01when i get called out of lurk i'm like
- 00:27:02bro i'm just trying to chill i don't
- 00:27:03really want to talk to anybody i just
- 00:27:05wanted to watch some content
- 00:27:06in regards to collaborations if you're
- 00:27:08going live with other people on your
- 00:27:09channel if you go live with someone else
- 00:27:11who is either playing a game with you
- 00:27:12in a discord voice chat call with you or
- 00:27:14is also live streaming themselves
- 00:27:16tell them you're streaming this is just
- 00:27:18common courtesy so they can be aware
- 00:27:20they're being broadcasted
- 00:27:22consent is important i hope this one
- 00:27:24goes without saying but don't pressure
- 00:27:26people into following you or subscribing
- 00:27:27to you or donating to you
- 00:27:29it's just not a good look next be
- 00:27:31grateful for hosts
- 00:27:33donations follows subscriptions etc
- 00:27:36nobody wants to hear wow it took you
- 00:27:38long enough
- 00:27:39when they follow you or support you in
- 00:27:40another way and i've heard that before
- 00:27:43i've been in so much channel chatting
- 00:27:44with them we maybe have been networking
- 00:27:46on twitter or something and i hit follow
- 00:27:47and the follow alert goes off and they
- 00:27:49look like
- 00:27:49confused and they're like you're just
- 00:27:51now wow that took you long enough and
- 00:27:53it's like
- 00:27:54taking back my follow
- 00:27:57[Music]
- 00:27:59now we're going to talk a little bit
- 00:28:00about twitch chat and culture if you've
- 00:28:02not spent a lot of time on twitch it's
- 00:28:03important to know that twitch has a
- 00:28:04culture all of its own
- 00:28:06similar to how there are different
- 00:28:07emojis on apple phones compared to
- 00:28:08android phones
- 00:28:09twitch has its own special set of emotes
- 00:28:12you might want to spend some time
- 00:28:13familiarizing yourself with twitch
- 00:28:14global emotes such as kappa
- 00:28:16and pogchamp poggers to understand what
- 00:28:18they mean when they're used in your chat
- 00:28:20kappa is typically used to signify a
- 00:28:22sentence with sarcastic or set in a
- 00:28:23bantering type of way
- 00:28:25and this could lead to misunderstandings
- 00:28:27unless you're familiar with the emotes
- 00:28:29meanings already
- 00:28:30there's a lot of twitch terminology to
- 00:28:31get used to as well such as terms we've
- 00:28:33already used like lurking rating
- 00:28:34affiliates versus partners etc
- 00:28:36keep your eyes out for my abcs of twitch
- 00:28:39video that i'm hoping to release with
- 00:28:40this series
- 00:28:44this next section we're going to switch
- 00:28:45back over to a screen cap and we're
- 00:28:48going to do a really quick run through
- 00:28:50of setting up your profile just kind of
- 00:28:52the most important parts of this
- 00:28:54we're looking at a brand new twitch
- 00:28:55profile here we've gone into creator
- 00:28:57dashboard
- 00:28:58in the top right corner you click on
- 00:28:59your profile creator dashboard and then
- 00:29:01on the left hand side we come down to
- 00:29:02preferences
- 00:29:03channel this is where you find your
- 00:29:05stream key this is extremely important
- 00:29:08do not share it with other people anyone
- 00:29:09who has your stream key can broadcast to
- 00:29:11your channel
- 00:29:12another thing that i want to tell new
- 00:29:14streamers about is this option here
- 00:29:16storing your past broadcasts make sure
- 00:29:18this is turned on
- 00:29:19it automatically saves broadcast for up
- 00:29:21to 14 days if you have that turned off
- 00:29:23then when you go live
- 00:29:24and you turn the stream off the video is
- 00:29:26gone it doesn't save anywhere
- 00:29:28unless you're saving it to your hard
- 00:29:29drive so make sure this is turned on
- 00:29:31the next thing that i think is important
- 00:29:33is on your actual
- 00:29:34bio page under the about section you
- 00:29:36want to upload some panels here
- 00:29:38you can add some widgets but the most
- 00:29:40important ones that i think that you
- 00:29:41should have
- 00:29:42is a profile picture of some kind an
- 00:29:44about section
- 00:29:46so thank you links to your other social
- 00:29:49media
- 00:29:49and a link to your paypal or donate if
- 00:29:51you want to add that
- 00:29:52and i'm going to show you an example of
- 00:29:55my friend duke stamina who just got
- 00:29:57started
- 00:29:57he's created these graphics himself but
- 00:29:59you can see he's got like a little
- 00:30:00profile picture it doesn't have to be an
- 00:30:01actual picture of you
- 00:30:02a little drawn picture or your branding
- 00:30:05an about me section where he's got his
- 00:30:06little about me a link to his youtube a
- 00:30:09link to his spotify
- 00:30:10a link to his donate a link to his
- 00:30:12discord and then a couple a link to his
- 00:30:14twitter and a couple of widgets or a
- 00:30:16widget
- 00:30:16um and this is he's also got his social
- 00:30:18media updated and then i'll show you
- 00:30:20mine as well
- 00:30:20mine i focus a little bit more on
- 00:30:22aesthetics honestly
- 00:30:23um i've got like my profile picture up
- 00:30:26top with my name
- 00:30:27links to my social media to a paypal
- 00:30:30link a link to my streamer community
- 00:30:31that i manage
- 00:30:32what my sub badges look like a link to
- 00:30:35my stream gifts
- 00:30:36and a couple of widgets links to my
- 00:30:38instagram and credits for my graphics
- 00:30:40okay so that's as much as i want to talk
- 00:30:41about for the actual twitch dashboard
- 00:30:44[Music]
- 00:30:46this is toasty she's gonna chill for a
- 00:30:47second i guess before we get into
- 00:30:49setting
- 00:30:50up your obs i guess i want to talk a
- 00:30:52little bit about
- 00:30:53hardware and equipment requirements i'm
- 00:30:55not a tech guru
- 00:30:56but i will say there's some you don't
- 00:30:58have to go out and buy like a thousand
- 00:30:59dollar setup
- 00:31:00you could technically just stream
- 00:31:02straight from your cell phone you would
- 00:31:03have to be in the just chatting category
- 00:31:05but you could technically just stream
- 00:31:06with a cell phone if you already have a
- 00:31:08pc
- 00:31:08i see mostly recommended like computers
- 00:31:10with i5 processors
- 00:31:11even if you can't stream like really
- 00:31:13high def games like the new god of war
- 00:31:15or whatever
- 00:31:15you could still stream lower end graphic
- 00:31:18games like pixel graphic games or like
- 00:31:20retro game
- 00:31:21you don't have to be set up to stream
- 00:31:22like these super brand new games that
- 00:31:24are coming out
- 00:31:24otherwise you're looking at spending
- 00:31:26bare minimum 800 and
- 00:31:28closer to 2000 honestly for some of
- 00:31:29these like nice high-tech
- 00:31:31setups if you're going the pc route i
- 00:31:33recommend a webcam and a microphone
- 00:31:35literally just go on amazon and type in
- 00:31:37streamer microphone but i've been using
- 00:31:38a blue yeti
- 00:31:39for five years now and it it's had a
- 00:31:42an issue here there mostly with the usb
- 00:31:44cord but it's a mid-tier microphone
- 00:31:46you're gonna pay around 100 to 120 for
- 00:31:48it but i think it's a pretty good like
- 00:31:50intro microphone but you can find
- 00:31:52cheaper ones for like thirty to forty
- 00:31:53dollars
- 00:31:54webcam wise i'm using a c920 logitech
- 00:31:56c920 which is about an eighty dollar
- 00:31:58camera last time i looked and again you
- 00:32:00can probably find cheaper options that
- 00:32:02are closer to the 20 to 30 dollar range
- 00:32:04uh i recommend a microphone
- 00:32:06a webcam and then some kind of computer
- 00:32:08setup even if it's like a laptop or
- 00:32:09whatever
- 00:32:10finally you could also stream straight
- 00:32:11from your xbox or straight from your
- 00:32:13playstation 4.
- 00:32:14they're streaming software's built into
- 00:32:16those gaming systems
- 00:32:17and i think you can add webcam capture
- 00:32:19to them so you don't have to go and
- 00:32:21spend a million dollars to get started
- 00:32:23you can just use what you have lying
- 00:32:24around and see if you're even interested
- 00:32:26in doing it long term and then start to
- 00:32:27slowly build up
- 00:32:29and use the streaming itself to
- 00:32:31fundraise your growth
- 00:32:32and your hardware upgrades
- 00:32:35[Music]
- 00:32:36the final section that we're going to do
- 00:32:38is just a quick rundown of obs
- 00:32:40i'm using my streamlabs obs to record
- 00:32:42through so i've actually downloaded the
- 00:32:44original obs
- 00:32:45okay so we're looking at obs here this
- 00:32:48is a little bit of an older version
- 00:32:49but everything should still be the same
- 00:32:51when you get into obs
- 00:32:52the first thing you want to do is come
- 00:32:54into the settings down here in the
- 00:32:55bottom right you want to go through
- 00:32:57every individual setting and make sure
- 00:32:58it's fine tuned to your liking there's
- 00:33:00plenty of tutorials to go into depth on
- 00:33:01obs but for the sake of this i just want
- 00:33:03to show you
- 00:33:04where to put your stream key which is
- 00:33:05right under here on the left hand side
- 00:33:07stream
- 00:33:07this is where you put that stream key
- 00:33:09that we found in your twitch profile
- 00:33:10and save that if you're finding that
- 00:33:12you're struggling with dropped frames
- 00:33:14while you're live streaming you may want
- 00:33:16to come in here and mess with the video
- 00:33:17bitrate dropping it down lower
- 00:33:19the current bit rate that i stream on my
- 00:33:21bitrate is 2500 here
- 00:33:23that's where you enter your stream key
- 00:33:25now we just want to set up a really
- 00:33:27quick
- 00:33:27overlay for you i think that bare
- 00:33:30minimum
- 00:33:30most people have a starting soon screen
- 00:33:33not required there's a big debate about
- 00:33:35it do you do that by right clicking
- 00:33:36add or you just press the plus button
- 00:33:38down here we're gonna rename this
- 00:33:40original scene that was up here and
- 00:33:41we're gonna call this
- 00:33:42chatting slash community scene where
- 00:33:44you're like hanging out and chatting
- 00:33:45with your community again not a required
- 00:33:46one but these are like i feel like some
- 00:33:47of the most common ones
- 00:33:49we've got a gaming screen and maybe like
- 00:33:52an
- 00:33:53afk brb screen and maybe
- 00:33:56ending scene the goodbye ending scene i
- 00:33:59don't really even use one myself because
- 00:34:00i typically just rage straight from my
- 00:34:02streams but that's an option
- 00:34:03and i think these here are probably like
- 00:34:05the main ones you want to get started
- 00:34:06and then add and pepper in more
- 00:34:08i'm not going to go through and set up
- 00:34:09every single one of these here we're
- 00:34:11just going to build a gaming scene
- 00:34:12together
- 00:34:13so you've added your scene down here in
- 00:34:14the bottom left we're going to come over
- 00:34:16into the sources
- 00:34:17we're going to add a new source over
- 00:34:18here the first thing we want is the
- 00:34:20actual game capture so you just right
- 00:34:22click
- 00:34:22add or again press that plus button down
- 00:34:24here you want a
- 00:34:26game capture create new we're going to
- 00:34:27call it game capture
- 00:34:29you could create specific ones for
- 00:34:30specific games so for the sake of this
- 00:34:32i'm going to call this
- 00:34:33stardew valley and we're going to click
- 00:34:34ok now it's going to have a drop down
- 00:34:36here at the top capture any full screen
- 00:34:39specific window or foreground some games
- 00:34:41are finicky and different you might have
- 00:34:43to do
- 00:34:44you might have to play around with
- 00:34:45specific ones because some games won't
- 00:34:47let you just pull the actual game i've
- 00:34:48had it happen
- 00:34:49especially with like ubisoft games we
- 00:34:51are going to capture a specific window
- 00:34:52and i'm going to come down to my stardew
- 00:34:54valley
- 00:34:54choice and we're going to click ok
- 00:34:58and then we're going to click and drag
- 00:35:00and just stretch this out to fit okay so
- 00:35:02now we have our full game capture here
- 00:35:04a lot of times people will add their
- 00:35:06webcam okay so we're going to click and
- 00:35:08add a video capture device
- 00:35:10when you're looking at a webcam it is
- 00:35:12one of the bottom options called a video
- 00:35:13capture device this is also how you add
- 00:35:15a capture card like an elgato we're
- 00:35:17going to call this webcam
- 00:35:18click okay and we're going to pick our
- 00:35:20webcam i'm going to use my 615 my c615
- 00:35:24for this example
- 00:35:25click ok and now we want to put this
- 00:35:27wherever we want it to and resize it
- 00:35:29one little pro tip here or like hack
- 00:35:32that i'll show you really quick is
- 00:35:33thinking about the thumbnail
- 00:35:35of your video and how it's going to look
- 00:35:36so let's just really quickly come over
- 00:35:38here to
- 00:35:39twitch.tv we're going to look at the
- 00:35:40stardew valley category
- 00:35:42and take a look here what i really want
- 00:35:43to show you is look at the thumbnails
- 00:35:46you can see in the top left it has a red
- 00:35:48button that says live
- 00:35:49in the top right it has a time stamp of
- 00:35:50how long they've been live in the bottom
- 00:35:52left it tells you how many viewers are
- 00:35:54watching
- 00:35:54so you can see in this second example
- 00:35:56here she's got her webcam set
- 00:35:58right there on the left hand side so
- 00:35:59that it's not covered by any of those
- 00:36:01stamps
- 00:36:01the bottom right corner is a good spot
- 00:36:03to put your camera because the twitch
- 00:36:04doesn't add any kind of stamp on top of
- 00:36:06it but let me show you an example
- 00:36:08of someone who's being covered right
- 00:36:09here you can see this person right here
- 00:36:11their webcam is right here but it's
- 00:36:13covered up by that
- 00:36:14viewer mark and same here with this
- 00:36:16example their webcam is in the top left
- 00:36:18and it's being covered by that bright
- 00:36:20red live so you want to try and go for
- 00:36:22one of these spots that
- 00:36:23one it's not covering up anything in
- 00:36:24your gameplay and two it's not going to
- 00:36:26be covered up by any of the twitch
- 00:36:27ui so we're going to move our webcam
- 00:36:29down here in the bottom right and we're
- 00:36:30going to nestle it right in between
- 00:36:32the toolbar and stardoo and the energy
- 00:36:35bar
- 00:36:35and now we're not being covered by
- 00:36:37anything on twitch and we're not
- 00:36:38covering up anything important
- 00:36:40on our video game capture so another
- 00:36:42thing here that i'll show you that's
- 00:36:44just like kind of a little trick is
- 00:36:45to make our webcam look a little bit
- 00:36:47nicer we're going to right click on the
- 00:36:48camera and we're going to go into
- 00:36:50filters
- 00:36:50and we're going to add a an effect
- 00:36:53filter an image mask
- 00:36:54blend an image mask and that's fine we
- 00:36:57don't even have to worry about the title
- 00:36:58for this
- 00:36:59we're going to find an image mask and
- 00:37:01let me show you what some of them look
- 00:37:02like i also have a blog i'll link below
- 00:37:04of a bunch of masks that i have
- 00:37:05available for free download
- 00:37:06so masks are just solid things that
- 00:37:10tell you can say i'm using a mask right
- 00:37:12here it's rounded it's just kind of
- 00:37:13telling the
- 00:37:14telling it where to crop out i don't
- 00:37:15really know how to explain technically
- 00:37:17why it works i just know that it works
- 00:37:19so we're going to use let's use this
- 00:37:21weird one that i have here
- 00:37:22so you can really see how it works uh
- 00:37:24you can see that it's like not working
- 00:37:26that's because you want to drop this
- 00:37:27down to alpha mask alpha channel instead
- 00:37:30and now you can see it's kind of got
- 00:37:32this cool gradient effect
- 00:37:33and we're gonna close that you can see
- 00:37:35me down in the bottom right corner now
- 00:37:37i'm not
- 00:37:38um it's not a solid circle i just think
- 00:37:40it adds like a little something
- 00:37:41something
- 00:37:42it makes it look just a little bit more
- 00:37:43interesting up to you you don't have to
- 00:37:45add them but it's just a little a little
- 00:37:47hack as it were so now we have our game
- 00:37:49capture really there's not
- 00:37:50really much else that you need to add
- 00:37:52like need to add besides this but a lot
- 00:37:55of people will add their
- 00:37:56widgets like someone just followed you
- 00:37:58or whatever i'll show you here like in
- 00:38:00order to add an alert when someone just
- 00:38:02follows you
- 00:38:02click on the plus sign here for a source
- 00:38:04and you want an alert box
- 00:38:06add source and that's it just click add
- 00:38:09source and we're just going to go ahead
- 00:38:09and click done we're not going to
- 00:38:10customize this at all
- 00:38:12and let's test to follow you can see
- 00:38:14that's my little alert that i've popped
- 00:38:16up
- 00:38:16you can spend all day going in and
- 00:38:17customizing those but that's how you get
- 00:38:19your little
- 00:38:20alerts that's really all you need you
- 00:38:22can also create
- 00:38:23overlays you can see here on the game
- 00:38:26itself like how you would kind of want
- 00:38:28to design that
- 00:38:29i'll make a video on how i design my
- 00:38:30overlays if that's something you're
- 00:38:32interested in then you just click start
- 00:38:33streaming down here in the bottom right
- 00:38:34corner and it should connect you right
- 00:38:36to your channel
- 00:38:37you can flip between these different
- 00:38:38scenes you just made and you're set
- 00:38:42[Music]
- 00:38:43there's a couple of other basic tools i
- 00:38:45would recommend i would definitely
- 00:38:46recommend like a stream labs chat bots
- 00:38:48or some kind of chat bot moobot nightbot
- 00:38:50there's a lot of different options there
- 00:38:52that's your set other than that that's
- 00:38:54how you get you get rolling
- 00:38:55i think that's going to wrap this up i
- 00:38:57really hope i can edit this down to like
- 00:38:5830 minutes
- 00:38:59i hope this was helpful i hope it was
- 00:39:01like quick to the point
- 00:39:02and you got some value out of this
- 00:39:04please let me know if there's anything
- 00:39:05in specific you are most interested in
- 00:39:07me going into more detail on
- 00:39:09or elaborating on or creating special
- 00:39:11tutorials for
- 00:39:12and also i guess if there's anything
- 00:39:14that you think a new streamer needs to
- 00:39:15know in 2020 on how to get started with
