00:00:00
hey there my gorgeous friends on the
00:00:01
internet in today's episode we are going
00:00:03
to have a little discussion on macs and
00:00:06
windows because i get tons of comments
00:00:08
of people saying
00:00:09
oh you were on mac oh you're a pc now
00:00:12
which one is the better one well we are
00:00:15
here to put this
00:00:17
to the
00:00:19
put it put that to the rest
00:00:21
to rest just to rest nail in the coffin
00:00:24
that's what i wanted to say
00:00:26
but do the rest
00:00:29
so before we start i do want to say this
00:00:32
we like both and
00:00:35
their own i didn't say i like windows
00:00:37
what she meant to say is we like both of
00:00:39
them but and they're old
00:00:42
his other hands pointing a gun at me
00:00:44
people clicking on this video
00:00:47
we're getting no information out of this
00:00:49
video
00:00:50
yeah
00:00:52
okay what does yoshi think
00:00:57
okay so max
00:00:58
has been that's so weird to say
00:01:01
max has been mostly on
00:01:05
max
00:01:08
i've definitely noticed the comments on
00:01:10
your videos for when you use windows
00:01:14
people are quick to be like i thought
00:01:15
you were using mac and when you use mac
00:01:17
people are like
00:01:19
why aren't you using windows anymore and
00:01:21
so
00:01:22
for me i guess because i've always used
00:01:24
mac
00:01:25
is there a difference do you feel like
00:01:27
when you're coding in windows and coding
00:01:29
in mac or
00:01:31
yeah this is this is why i kind of find
00:01:33
these comments hilarious uh because i
00:01:35
know there's zero difference when it
00:01:37
comes to coding
00:01:39
i could not tell you if i'm on mac or on
00:01:41
pc it's just a text editor it's going to
00:01:45
work great and what's funny is i had an
00:01:47
old old laptop
00:01:50
from 2015 or 16 that wasn't even a high
00:01:53
performance windows laptop it's a low
00:01:56
low end uh
00:01:59
lap pc laptop pc windows laptop
00:02:02
pc laptop
00:02:04
um
00:02:04
and even with that compared to my
00:02:07
high-end pc now i cannot notice the
00:02:10
difference
00:02:11
so
00:02:11
moral of the store if you're coding
00:02:14
you can have a very cheap laptop and
00:02:17
that's gonna be fine i don't know where
00:02:19
that rumor comes from like you say you
00:02:21
can code on something that is a small
00:02:24
smaller budget sort of windows or you
00:02:26
don't need to splash out on these
00:02:29
big brands and
00:02:32
i think if you get a job a coding job
00:02:34
they're probably going to provide you
00:02:36
the devices that they want you to work
00:02:38
with
00:02:39
so i would just focus on like
00:02:42
whether it's windows or mac whatever
00:02:44
works best for you like your personal
00:02:45
life and coding shouldn't really be like
00:02:48
the first thought of it like oh should i
00:02:50
use this because i'm coding or whatever
00:02:52
right
00:02:53
[Music]
00:02:54
yeah so just pick whichever you like for
00:02:56
coding and you'll be fine and if you do
00:02:58
end up needing to switch over the
00:03:01
company is going to provide that
00:03:03
for you so shouldn't be too much of a
00:03:05
worry we're literally going to compare a
00:03:07
laptop to a desktop pc in a moment but
00:03:10
yeah
00:03:11
we haven't said things we've been
00:03:13
talking for 10 minutes
00:03:16
one thing of value
00:03:18
so i've been using
00:03:20
mac for the past few years
00:03:22
especially as i do more creative bits
00:03:26
like illustrator
00:03:27
photoshop and coding as well
00:03:30
and you've been using a mixture of both
00:03:33
right
00:03:35
mostly windows my whole life
00:03:37
um but since i started the youtube
00:03:40
channel i
00:03:41
kind of experimented with both platforms
00:03:44
i think you were windows for quite a
00:03:46
while and then you came over to see me
00:03:49
and didn't leave so
00:03:51
[Music]
00:03:52
yeah needed to get uh something a bit
00:03:54
more portable from going between the
00:03:57
countries right yeah i needed something
00:03:59
a bit portable but i got to see a lot of
00:04:01
what the mac has to offer
00:04:03
so
00:04:04
i got a good experience with both
00:04:07
i think that's the thing i was
00:04:09
predominantly a mac user so didn't
00:04:12
really look at windows or see the
00:04:14
benefits of windows and you were the
00:04:16
opposite right you were windows and
00:04:18
didn't really see the mac so until you
00:04:20
got the mac whilst you were here you saw
00:04:22
the benefits and since you've got
00:04:24
uh your windows stuff here i see the
00:04:26
benefit of windows a lot more so
00:04:29
um don't really see like i'm not going
00:04:31
to be like oh i'm only mac i see the
00:04:33
benefit between both of them so
00:04:37
i mean
00:04:38
yeah i agree and in this video we really
00:04:40
want to highlight what we like about
00:04:42
each
00:04:43
platform and what they have to offer so
00:04:45
again that's not really this wins and
00:04:47
this loses it's they're both great in
00:04:50
their own way
00:04:51
depending on your needs okay so let's
00:04:53
get started with comparing a couple of
00:04:56
things that we like and we don't
00:04:58
all right so first of all we want to
00:04:59
talk a little bit about io
00:05:02
um so you being on mac most of the time
00:05:05
and owning a laptop i want to ask you if
00:05:08
you've experienced any struggles
00:05:11
yeah i definitely i definitely have when
00:05:14
i was at uni i did photography and i had
00:05:16
uh windows
00:05:18
and
00:05:19
it had like the sd port
00:05:22
um the usb ports everything i needed but
00:05:27
i switched to mac just because it was
00:05:30
better for like the other creative stuff
00:05:33
i was doing like illustrating as well as
00:05:35
photography and that was definitely a
00:05:38
big struggle i didn't have all those
00:05:40
things that just come with
00:05:42
most windows computers and laptops it
00:05:45
was having to buy extra add-ons in order
00:05:48
to have that
00:05:50
connection to your laptop um
00:05:53
so yeah it's a bit more costly more
00:05:55
add-ons and stuff like that i definitely
00:05:58
think that's where mac falls short they
00:06:00
are sort of improving now they have
00:06:02
added a few more and each time they
00:06:05
announce a new product it's like they
00:06:07
are starting to think a bit more about
00:06:09
their ios
00:06:10
um so yeah yeah and i do agree with that
00:06:14
they're definitely improving especially
00:06:16
with the mac studio they announced i
00:06:18
mean you have ethernet ports you have uh
00:06:22
a bunch of usbc's ever pretty much
00:06:24
everything that you really need for my
00:06:26
side uh with having windows since the
00:06:29
beginning i didn't really know this was
00:06:31
an issue
00:06:33
so when i finally did get a mac i was
00:06:35
like well okay how they plug in the
00:06:37
monitor and this them i need to get
00:06:38
dongles and everything and so it was a
00:06:41
bit of a struggle now to be fair
00:06:43
it's not really a disadvantage of the
00:06:45
mac if you have enough money to spend on
00:06:47
dongles you'd be
00:06:49
pretty much equivalent to what the pc
00:06:51
can offer though i do want to point out
00:06:53
if you want to plug in higher quality
00:06:55
displays such as like a 4k 60 hertz
00:06:58
monitor you do need better dongles for
00:07:01
it and they're quite pricey they are i
00:07:03
feel like everything
00:07:05
additional to mac is quite pricey if you
00:07:07
want something good quality right
00:07:10
so next up we're going to talk about
00:07:12
upgradeability and flexibility so with
00:07:16
mac i sort of feel like what you buy is
00:07:19
what you get so if you wanted to upgrade
00:07:21
any components or say you ran out of
00:07:24
storage you wanted to upgrade that
00:07:26
you can't but that is what it is right
00:07:30
yeah and actually i wanted to also point
00:07:33
out one thing about the imax because
00:07:36
we were really interested in getting the
00:07:37
imax but now that i think about it
00:07:40
the the big unfortunate situation here
00:07:42
is if you end up buying the imac and you
00:07:44
have a great display right
00:07:47
but eventually maybe you want to upgrade
00:07:49
the speed of it maybe
00:07:51
you want a new cpu in there maybe a new
00:07:53
graphics card well you'd have to get
00:07:55
another imac but the but the thing is
00:07:58
that your display is great like displays
00:08:01
don't really need upgrading every year
00:08:03
or two
00:08:05
such as a computer hardware so you
00:08:07
literally need to get rid of a
00:08:10
hole that's perfectly fine display so
00:08:12
that's quite unfortunate
00:08:15
whereas in
00:08:17
donkey kicked uh whereas in pcs you know
00:08:20
if um
00:08:23
hey you need more performance for maybe
00:08:25
you're playing games or maybe you're
00:08:27
doing 3d work right and you want a
00:08:28
better graphics card just plug out the
00:08:31
graphics card and plug a new one in and
00:08:33
you're pretty much ready to go it's
00:08:34
literally it takes a minute to do
00:08:37
that's one of the big downsides for i
00:08:40
feel like for the both of us if
00:08:41
something goes if something breaks
00:08:44
in an apple product whether it's an ipad
00:08:46
or a
00:08:47
macbook
00:08:49
you have to bring it over and pretty
00:08:51
much get the whole thing replaced
00:08:53
whereas in here if like one of your ram
00:08:55
sticks breaks just pull it up put in a
00:08:58
new one and it's all good
00:09:00
and it's always such like premium prices
00:09:02
when it comes to apple right i don't
00:09:04
feel like they're really friendly
00:09:06
towards
00:09:08
their users i feel like it is quite
00:09:11
i don't know it feels like when they
00:09:13
make these sorts of changes where you
00:09:14
can't even change components that aren't
00:09:16
official or take it to a repair shop
00:09:18
that's not an apple repair shop so you
00:09:21
have to pay that extra it just
00:09:23
it feels like it's not very friendly to
00:09:25
the user it's like they're forcing you
00:09:27
to have to keep paying that extra money
00:09:29
yeah i agree
00:09:31
let's move on to the next one
00:09:34
next up we are going to talk a little
00:09:36
bit about operating systems so i want to
00:09:39
ask you about the benefits of
00:09:42
owning all of these different apple
00:09:44
devices and how they work together
00:09:46
yes so i have the iphone the ipad
00:09:50
and the macbook pro and it's great for
00:09:53
me because the devices work like so
00:09:56
seamlessly seamlessly between each other
00:09:59
so even from
00:10:00
like copying some text on my iphone i
00:10:03
can access it on either the ipad or the
00:10:06
laptop it's just automatically done
00:10:10
for example if i'm on the ipad and i'm
00:10:12
making a sketch on procreate i can
00:10:15
airdrop that to my macbook and then i
00:10:18
can finish it up in illustrator and then
00:10:21
again i can airdrop it to my phone to
00:10:24
share or wherever else um
00:10:27
same with you've got an iphone so even
00:10:31
sharing stuff between us
00:10:33
it's really great to just airdrop and
00:10:35
when we are coding on when you're coding
00:10:37
on your um macbook as well
00:10:41
and i'm well i'm coding on mine that's
00:10:43
all i have it's really nice because if
00:10:46
we're sharing images or code files it's
00:10:49
just so quick and easy and i've noticed
00:10:51
like when you're coding on your windows
00:10:53
and i'm on my macbook everything takes a
00:10:56
little bit longer because there are
00:10:58
different operating systems so it's not
00:11:00
so seamless between each other but yeah
00:11:03
for me that's why i love mac operating
00:11:05
system because they have a few of their
00:11:07
devices
00:11:08
and it's just so easy to send share and
00:11:11
work between them
00:11:12
yeah i remember when we were building
00:11:14
out the javascript animation course
00:11:17
linked down below by the way
00:11:19
get it that's really good uh we were
00:11:21
both coding it on the laptops so it was
00:11:24
really nice because she'd added like an
00:11:26
image together for us that we'd use on
00:11:28
the final project and just airdrop it
00:11:30
quickly to me in like a second and then
00:11:32
i'd be up and go and whereas now it's
00:11:35
like ah damn i have to send everything
00:11:36
through whatsapp and then wait a little
00:11:38
bit and download it from there so it's a
00:11:40
little bit weird and
00:11:42
even you know
00:11:44
just kind of
00:11:46
how everything goes with windows
00:11:48
you don't really have like if you have
00:11:50
an android device and the windows i mean
00:11:54
so many different phone companies out
00:11:56
there so they're not necessarily running
00:11:58
on the same android android version uh
00:12:01
so it's quite inconsistent and
00:12:03
it's just uncomparable to what apple
00:12:05
offers you even like random phone calls
00:12:07
that you get on iphone it just
00:12:08
automatically syncs up with your laptop
00:12:11
and you get you can pick it up from
00:12:12
there or like headphones syncing across
00:12:15
devices like that that's so quick and
00:12:18
easy like it's just seamless you have
00:12:21
literally nothing that you need to do
00:12:23
you don't get any of that on on windows
00:12:26
unfortunately so that's a big big plus
00:12:28
for
00:12:29
for the max
00:12:30
so another thing that i really like
00:12:32
about the mac operating system is it's
00:12:35
always just so pretty to look at so for
00:12:38
me
00:12:39
that makes a huge difference to my
00:12:41
experience when i use devices when i go
00:12:43
on websites if it looks nice i enjoy
00:12:46
using it more i don't know why
00:12:49
so with mac
00:12:51
i always feel like they're sort of ahead
00:12:53
of the game in terms of things so there
00:12:55
was like the glass glass morphism before
00:12:58
anybody was really doing it
00:13:00
the gradients
00:13:02
all of these um the flat flat icons
00:13:05
right they were the first one to go with
00:13:08
that minimalist
00:13:09
icon look and yeah everyone picked it up
00:13:12
after that yeah but not only that it's
00:13:15
just the consistency not only to the
00:13:17
whole operating system but
00:13:19
from
00:13:20
a mac to an iphone into an ipad you get
00:13:23
the ui is consistent and the ux is
00:13:26
consistent throughout the whole whereas
00:13:28
windows again
00:13:30
they they feels like they're
00:13:31
flip-flopping quite a bit they go from
00:13:33
glassmorphism and now with windows 11
00:13:36
they're copying apple a little bit and
00:13:38
then you had certain parts of the
00:13:40
operating system like control manager or
00:13:43
file explorer or whatever
00:13:45
they all had a bit of a different look
00:13:47
to them so it was quite inconsistent
00:13:49
some of the stuff in windows still
00:13:51
looked like yeah it looked really good
00:13:53
and then others looked like it was like
00:13:55
from the early 2000s or something
00:13:58
not too much yeah updated or sort of
00:14:01
forward thinking so
00:14:04
so the big question if you were to pick
00:14:07
between
00:14:08
a mac or windows
00:14:11
what would you go for
00:14:12
so for me here's what i do
00:14:15
i'd have a powerful windows pc sitting
00:14:19
at home in the office which i currently
00:14:21
do have and i'll use that for hard tasks
00:14:24
like uh editing together the videos
00:14:26
filming courses because i have
00:14:28
everything hooked up here a bunch of i o
00:14:30
ports set up with it can hook up all the
00:14:33
monitors
00:14:34
have blender for
00:14:36
heavy
00:14:37
heavy 3d if we do end up developing
00:14:39
games as well that's all covered so
00:14:43
powerful workstation at home is gonna be
00:14:45
windows but in terms of
00:14:48
uh when i like a mac i'd like to keep it
00:14:51
with laptops to be honest because i do
00:14:53
feel their laptops are the best out of
00:14:56
all the other ones out there especially
00:14:58
with the future and how the m1
00:15:00
is advancing and
00:15:03
since they own everything now right they
00:15:05
have the proprietary cpu in there and
00:15:09
the operating system and everything they
00:15:10
can truly really optimize the
00:15:12
performance and battery life compared to
00:15:14
any other company out there so for
00:15:16
portability definitely go for mac for me
00:15:21
for me i would stick with mac as a
00:15:24
creative person i think it works best
00:15:26
for me
00:15:27
um
00:15:28
the
00:15:29
seamlessness between devices really
00:15:32
benefits me
00:15:33
however
00:15:34
i think i really do get jealous when i
00:15:38
see you playing a blender and if i try
00:15:40
and open blender my
00:15:42
laptop just now
00:15:44
oh it takes like
00:15:46
800 years to do like the simplest thing
00:15:49
so
00:15:50
for me i'm waiting for mac to sort of
00:15:52
catch up to windows in terms of like
00:15:55
um being able to use blender i don't
00:15:58
think it will ever sort of get into
00:15:59
gaming which is a shame
00:16:01
um
00:16:02
but i am willing to wait out i think
00:16:04
especially with the new chips that
00:16:06
they've got they are getting closer
00:16:09
here's the big question would you shell
00:16:10
out the money for max studio
00:16:16
[Music]
00:16:23
oh i don't know if i would just yet
00:16:25
because your pc
00:16:28
seems to run better and
00:16:30
it costs less right yeah and even just
00:16:33
like the monitor and the monitor stand
00:16:36
i can't afford all of that like the
00:16:38
stands over a thousand pounds right yeah
00:16:41
it's ridiculous like so
00:16:43
i'm happy with my laptop just now i do
00:16:46
want to get a computer and i was hopeful
00:16:49
for the studio right
00:16:52
but even then like when you're looking
00:16:54
at comparisons they're not running
00:16:56
better than a pc for half the price
00:16:59
right is that true uh close in certain
00:17:02
categories it does well it's again kind
00:17:05
of depending what you need it for so
00:17:08
if you need it for graphics uh you know
00:17:10
nvidia with the rtx and everything like
00:17:13
that of course nvidia has that whereas
00:17:17
mac does not so anything rtx related
00:17:21
especially for gaming or
00:17:23
game making or 3d you're not going to be
00:17:25
able to do that but
00:17:27
certain i think for like
00:17:29
if you are
00:17:31
into music
00:17:32
or video editing and stuff like that
00:17:35
then definitely i would shell out the
00:17:36
money if i was more focused on those
00:17:38
types of things
00:17:40
but for my needs just now using
00:17:42
it's just really illustrator photoshop
00:17:45
and procreate i don't really need that
00:17:47
powerful
00:17:49
i don't need it to be as powerful as
00:17:51
what that um studio is just yet so i'm
00:17:54
happy to wait out and see what else they
00:17:56
release in the future so we'll get the
00:17:58
back studio that's where we'll get it
00:18:01
and do comparisons because it's fun okay
00:18:03
well and it looks pretty it does look
00:18:05
pretty that's the only thing like the
00:18:07
different colors of monitors like i
00:18:10
would pay the money just to have like a
00:18:12
baby blue monitor you know yeah we'll
00:18:15
get that and we'll make a video on it
00:18:19
all right that's gonna be it for this
00:18:21
episode it's been half an hour okay
00:18:23
thank you so much for watching hope you
00:18:25
enjoyed this little talky talk
00:18:26
and
00:18:28
yeah it would be fun to do more of these
00:18:30
let us know right yeah let us know if
00:18:33
our rambling was interesting in any way
00:18:39
so leave down any suggestions of things
00:18:41
you want us to talk about
00:18:44
and we'll gladly make them yeah yeah all
00:18:47
right we'll catch you in the next one
00:18:49
bye
00:18:50
bye
00:18:51
is that cringy yes
