- 00:00:56it looks a bit dirty. It needs some TLC.

- 00:01:19uh leer trail here.
- 00:01:29And they talking about the the bridge
- 00:01:32here. We've gone across it many times
- 00:01:35before. Okay. So, let's go and have a
- 00:01:37quick look at the beach. This beach
- 00:01:41looks fantastic when the uh when the
- 00:01:44sea's out. This is the Coral Sea, by the
- 00:01:46way. That's Taylor's Point over
- 00:01:48there. Let's go for a walk over there.
- 00:01:51There's a lot of lights going on there
- 00:01:52at night time. I have to ask Brett
- 00:01:54what's all the what all the lights are
- 00:01:58for. Let's see if I remember. I've
- 00:02:00written a few things down,
- 00:02:03but
- 00:02:04yeah. Okay, there we go. Beautiful day
- 00:02:08today. Oh, as I keep saying, I can see
- 00:02:10why people come up here for a holiday.
- 00:02:13We're so
- 00:02:14lucky. There's Hoff
- 00:02:17Island, Double Island. You can see the
- 00:02:20jetty at Palm Cove there.
- 00:02:24There's the bridge I was talking about
- 00:02:25there for the footpath. That's Clifton
- 00:02:27Beach there where the rock wall
- 00:02:30is. Quite a big beach, Clifton Beach.
- 00:02:33What I might do is I might um I might
- 00:02:37pause it and then zoom in. There we go.
- 00:02:39Zoomed
- 00:02:41in. Beautiful.
- 00:02:52[Applause]
- 00:02:58[Applause]
- 00:03:04beautiful. Okay, I think we'll just do
- 00:03:06the u the chat in the in the sheds up
- 00:03:10there next in the barbecue area. Yeah,
- 00:03:13just up there. We'll do it up there.
- 00:03:15Okay. Well, I'll go and set up and
- 00:03:18uh Brett Olds will be here in a minute,
- 00:03:21so we'll do it then. Okay. Remember,
- 00:03:24like, subscribe, hit the notification
- 00:03:27bell, okay? And en enjoy the chat with
- 00:03:29Brett. See you. Look after yourselves.
- 00:03:31Bye. Back to the channel. Uh Walking
- 00:03:34Cans. We're here at uh beautiful Kowara
- 00:03:37Beach. Uh I hope you're all doing well
- 00:03:40and looking after yourself in paradise
- 00:03:42here. It's been beautiful weather the
- 00:03:44last few days. U I'm here with Brett
- 00:03:46Als. He's counselor and deputy mayor and
- 00:03:50uh I've got a few questions that I've
- 00:03:51I've got for him. Uh and uh you all know
- 00:03:54who he is so he doesn't have to
- 00:03:55introduce himself. So how you doing
- 00:03:57guys? Good to see you again. Good to see
- 00:03:58you Steve. Good. How are you? Yeah, good
- 00:04:00mate. So I'll jump into the questions.
- 00:04:03Uh uh so yeah. So enough waffle. Waffle.
- 00:04:08Yeah, it is a beautiful day though.
- 00:04:10Fantastic. I just look I get distracted.
- 00:04:12look out at the view and I think
- 00:04:14everything disappears. You know, it's
- 00:04:15like being in paradise. I'll go this
- 00:04:17chillness comes over you. Wonder all the
- 00:04:19poor people are doing in the world. You
- 00:04:20got it pretty good. Although I'm glad we
- 00:04:22met here today because we've got an
- 00:04:23update for quar. Yeah, that's why I
- 00:04:24suggested here so can do the update.
- 00:04:26Okay, so I run through some some of
- 00:04:27these questions. I I these are questions
- 00:04:31of myself. uh uh or maybe one or two
- 00:04:34other people have suggested I ask some
- 00:04:36things uh which I'll do towards the end,
- 00:04:38but I thought I'd start at the at the
- 00:04:40northern end of Ellis and then work down
- 00:04:42to uh to Kuara and perhaps Holloways. So
- 00:04:47um first question, um Ellis Beach, the
- 00:04:51Wangetti trail there, y it seems to are
- 00:04:53they doing work on it? It seems to be
- 00:04:54fenced off and the trucks are out there
- 00:04:56doing something. Yeah. Well, the
- 00:04:58previous government, the state
- 00:04:59government, Labor, um, before their
- 00:05:01election, they spent a whole lot of
- 00:05:03money trying to get it open before the
- 00:05:04election, so they had something to brag
- 00:05:06on because they'd already been through
- 00:05:07two election cycles promising it. And I
- 00:05:10think what you'll find is they rushed
- 00:05:11it. They didn't get the right people
- 00:05:12that have worked in the wet tropics
- 00:05:14before. And all the experts, including
- 00:05:17my wife and other friends who work
- 00:05:19tracks and trails, when we walked it, it
- 00:05:21was beautiful walk, but they said, "It's
- 00:05:22going to wash out here, wash out there,
- 00:05:24wash there." It was it was done terribly
- 00:05:26uh if I'm being honest and um and what
- 00:05:28happened when we got all those rains it
- 00:05:29washed out. So the current state
- 00:05:31government I've been talking obviously
- 00:05:33it's an LMP government. I've been
- 00:05:34talking to Brie James the member for
- 00:05:36Baron River and also Andrew Pow who's
- 00:05:38the minister for department of
- 00:05:39environment and tourism. Um they have
- 00:05:41committed and they've just released this
- 00:05:42week or a few days ago their 2045 their
- 00:05:4520 year uh tourism plan which is going
- 00:05:48to take us from $4.8 billion to$10
- 00:05:50billion in tourism per year over the
- 00:05:52next 20 years. And um and that's
- 00:05:54exciting if they can make it happen, but
- 00:05:55they've got a real focus. One of the big
- 00:05:57projects is Wanghetti. So they're
- 00:05:59committed to continuing on with Wedgeti,
- 00:06:01but with the question about Ellis Beach,
- 00:06:04uh what's happened there. They are going
- 00:06:05to fix it, but they're going to get
- 00:06:06someone knows what they're doing. So
- 00:06:08they helps that does help. So and the
- 00:06:10wheels and we'll talk about off air a
- 00:06:12second. The wheels of government never
- 00:06:13move as fast as we like. If it was a
- 00:06:15private industry, there wouldn't been
- 00:06:16any issues would have been done. But um
- 00:06:19but no, the current government is trying
- 00:06:20to assess where does it need to be
- 00:06:22rerouted, how can we fix it so it won't
- 00:06:24get washed out because obviously we get
- 00:06:26heavy rainforcy every single year. So um
- 00:06:29they're on to it. I don't have a time
- 00:06:30frame on you. That's a question
- 00:06:31obviously for Brie or or Minister Pow.
- 00:06:34But um I I do know they're looking at it
- 00:06:36and they're 100% serious. They're going
- 00:06:38to finish the Wetti Trail all the way to
- 00:06:40Port Douglas. So that was a concern.
- 00:06:42Some people were saying if they got into
- 00:06:43government they might that was what
- 00:06:45Labour was saying. If they get in,
- 00:06:46they're not going to continue it. But
- 00:06:48they are. They're going to continue it.
- 00:06:49So, yeah. Well, it's good for tourism.
- 00:06:51But I read I read something and I I'm
- 00:06:53guessing they're talking about the
- 00:06:54Wangetti trail. And the headline was the
- 00:06:57most expensive foot path in Australia.
- 00:06:59Is that that be that, wouldn't it? That
- 00:07:00was Minister Pal. Yeah. Brie calls it
- 00:07:03the wrong Getty Trail. He says it's
- 00:07:04wrong. And Andrew Pal said it was the
- 00:07:06most expensive footpath in Australia.
- 00:07:07And to be honest, it was like Wagner got
- 00:07:10awarded that contract. They had never
- 00:07:11built a wilderness trail in their life.
- 00:07:12Um and so they outsourced it I think to
- 00:07:15a town hall based um bloke who came up
- 00:07:17here and just looked at the plans that
- 00:07:19he had on map and just did it exactly to
- 00:07:21that. I've talked to other wilderness
- 00:07:22trail builders and they said you can't
- 00:07:24do that. You got to look at what what
- 00:07:26you've been given like the scoping
- 00:07:27document but then when you get on site
- 00:07:29and you see different things like
- 00:07:31they're like you you can't get from this
- 00:07:32height down here. You're going to have
- 00:07:33to go around and you've got to make
- 00:07:34judgment calls when you're there. And
- 00:07:36apparently this bloke didn't. He just
- 00:07:38went built it exactly like it was drawn
- 00:07:39on a piece of paper. And the mountains
- 00:07:42aren't built like a piece of paper. So
- 00:07:43they're not again I'm not the expert,
- 00:07:45but I have talked to a bunch of the
- 00:07:46builders and um wilderness trail
- 00:07:48experts. They're going to be I think
- 00:07:50we're going to have a different person
- 00:07:50fixing that trailer, a different group.
- 00:07:52I don't know who that's going to be just
- 00:07:53yet, but we got a couple really good
- 00:07:54local firms. It's obviously a real
- 00:07:56problem because it gets washed out every
- 00:07:58year. Yeah, it's like the Clifton Beach
- 00:08:00footpath, isn't it? Oh well, we fixed
- 00:08:02that again and we put pipes in
- 00:08:04underneath so hopefully it won't go
- 00:08:06again. But if you look at the Smithfield
- 00:08:08Mountain Bike Park, that's been built
- 00:08:10since the 1990s. Now, it does need some
- 00:08:12work every year, but every trail does in
- 00:08:13the world, but that doesn't get washed
- 00:08:15away. That was built by World Trail and
- 00:08:17Glenn Jacobs and the boys. So, Dylan and
- 00:08:19Glenn are partners there. We got Evan
- 00:08:21from Contour Works is another good local
- 00:08:23company. We got some we got some ripping
- 00:08:24young um and and local companies here
- 00:08:27doing that stuff. So, even with the wet
- 00:08:29tropics, you can build building Austral
- 00:08:31that'll hold up. Well, I hope so cuz I
- 00:08:32think it'll be excellent. Oh, it's going
- 00:08:33to be fantastic. Okay, let's move on
- 00:08:34then. Uh you go down to Palm Cove. Now
- 00:08:36I'll start with the easy ones. U the
- 00:08:38zoo. Everybody asks about the zoo and we
- 00:08:42got an old zoo there. Is the zoo closed
- 00:08:45uh just before I moved into canes and I
- 00:08:47would have loved to have gone and seen
- 00:08:48it but the zoo closed and just opposite
- 00:08:51is the opal mine. What's happening with
- 00:08:53those two sites? Any news? Yeah. No no
- 00:08:56no new news. Sorry. But they're both
- 00:08:58privately owned. Um, you know, there was
- 00:09:00a bit of before the last election, we're
- 00:09:02trying to get the state to maybe buy the
- 00:09:04zoo site and make it for a car parking
- 00:09:07site or maybe like a caravan park up
- 00:09:09there and trying to get like electric
- 00:09:11shuttles taking cars to Palm Cove cuz
- 00:09:14the parking in Palm Co's always been an
- 00:09:16issue. Yeah, that didn't happen. Um, and
- 00:09:18it was just one of many concepts thrown
- 00:09:20up. The zoo site years ago, council
- 00:09:23approved a service station and a fast
- 00:09:25food uh place to be built on both sides
- 00:09:27of the road. No. Yeah, on the No, just
- 00:09:29on the one, not the Opal one. He didn't
- 00:09:31get he hasn't got any extra approvals
- 00:09:32that I know of, but the zoo site. And
- 00:09:35because of that, what they're proposing
- 00:09:36is to put a stop light. Now, I voted
- 00:09:38against it, by the way. We've got You
- 00:09:39have to put a stop light there. Yeah, we
- 00:09:41got we've got two stop lights. Yeah, we
- 00:09:42got two stop lights in on the highway
- 00:09:44right now, and they want to put a third
- 00:09:45one. And and they're saying because the
- 00:09:47service station's been approved there.
- 00:09:48This what the state's telling us. It's
- 00:09:50your fault, council, even though it's a
- 00:09:52state road, state highway. Because it's
- 00:09:54serve there, it's the safest way to get
- 00:09:55people across. And I said, "You are
- 00:09:57going to kill traffic and all you're
- 00:09:58doing is extending suburbia." So you you
- 00:10:01Palm Cove is something special. You feel
- 00:10:02like you're on an island getaway and we
- 00:10:04don't want to have a stoplight in a fast
- 00:10:05food place. I've got no problems with
- 00:10:07fast food places. Have a look at me. I
- 00:10:08love them. But Palm Cove, you don't need
- 00:10:11one there. So but but anyway, that's
- 00:10:13what's been approved. Um we're trying to
- 00:10:15get a roundabout, an entrance statement,
- 00:10:16not just an entrance statement to Palm
- 00:10:18Cove there. A big roundabout put there
- 00:10:19instead of stop lights. Well, that's on
- 00:10:20the Palm Cove Boulevard. Yeah. Palm Cove
- 00:10:22Boulevard. Yeah. right there at Boissera
- 00:10:24Drive and Palmco Boulevard. That's the
- 00:10:25northern part side of the of the zoo of
- 00:10:28the zoo. Yeah, the old zoo site. But the
- 00:10:30entrance statement isn't just for Palm
- 00:10:31Co. The entrance statement is for the
- 00:10:32beginning of the Great Bar Reef Drive,
- 00:10:34which is what the states called that
- 00:10:35highway which goes all the way to Cape
- 00:10:37Tribulation. I think that would be
- 00:10:38fantastic. They need to market that
- 00:10:40more. I think we we do need to market
- 00:10:42and the state government and even the
- 00:10:43federal government. That's we got to
- 00:10:45play to our strengths. And I think
- 00:10:46putting a set of stop lights there in a
- 00:10:48service station isn't well if you put a
- 00:10:50service station there. I mean I I come
- 00:10:52out as you know I live up there so I
- 00:10:53come out that Alexandra uh uh avenue or
- 00:10:56drive or road or whatever uh every
- 00:10:58morning and some mornings I have to wait
- 00:11:0110 minutes to find a and and you risk
- 00:11:03your life trying to get across. Well
- 00:11:05that's right. If if the big roundabout
- 00:11:06went in at Bokeisa, which is just north
- 00:11:08of Alexandra, Alexandra would come up
- 00:11:10and hook to the north and actually
- 00:11:12divert that would So you divert that
- 00:11:13into the roundabout and that would make
- 00:11:15it a lot safer. It'll keep traffic
- 00:11:17flowing on traffic stop lights. You've
- 00:11:19seen what it does on the weekends. The
- 00:11:20two sets we've got. I know that Clifton
- 00:11:22Road one is Oh, it's terrible. I think
- 00:11:24Oh, I should never have put that there.
- 00:11:25Really? Oh, the traffic. It was a
- 00:11:27knee-jerk reaction, I think. No, it was.
- 00:11:28And they Yeah, that we could tell a
- 00:11:30story about that one, too, but it's
- 00:11:32obviously a knee-jerk reaction. You can
- 00:11:33see it cuz you think, you know, it
- 00:11:36wasn't that bad. I used to I used to
- 00:11:37live there on Bieber. How you going? I
- 00:11:40used to live there on Bieber Street. So
- 00:11:42I used to come out there every day and
- 00:11:43it was never a problem. It's much worse
- 00:11:45at Alexandra and that Buasis or whatever
- 00:11:48it's called. Bus. Yeah. It was supposed
- 00:11:49to be Evergreen Drive, the one we're
- 00:11:51talking about, was supposed to always
- 00:11:52have a huge roundabout there about the
- 00:11:53same size as the Smithfield roundabout.
- 00:11:55And the same thing, Rudder Street would
- 00:11:56have come around and into it and Clifton
- 00:11:58Road would have come around into it and
- 00:12:00Evergreen and you would have had an
- 00:12:01underpass for kids to get to the
- 00:12:02playground and to the child care center.
- 00:12:05Would have been fantastic, but it cost
- 00:12:07more money to do that than to put a
- 00:12:08cheap set of stop lightss in which have
- 00:12:10just slowed everything down. It's been a
- 00:12:12terrible outcome. It has. It's not good
- 00:12:13at all. I mean, obviously government
- 00:12:15highways, too, by the way. Council makes
- 00:12:17mistakes, too, but I'm just highlighting
- 00:12:19that that one's on stake. Yeah. I mean,
- 00:12:21you got to have the one near the shops.
- 00:12:22I mean, that's that's a given. That's
- 00:12:24That's a dangerous one. That that is a
- 00:12:26very busy intersection. Trucks coming in
- 00:12:27there with deliveries and stuff. But the
- 00:12:30others I I don't know. But anyway, it's
- 00:12:32it I mean it it is a problem. If you're
- 00:12:34going to put something like a a
- 00:12:36development in there, it's going to be a
- 00:12:37problem with the road, I think. No.
- 00:12:39100%. And I don't know what's I don't
- 00:12:40know what's going to happen with the
- 00:12:41excess. Like that's all approved for
- 00:12:43commercial on the front. We're back to
- 00:12:44the zoo site. Yeah. So, it's all
- 00:12:46commercial on the front. In the corner
- 00:12:47has been approved uh service station and
- 00:12:49fast food. And behind it, I think
- 00:12:51residential perhaps. Yeah. What about
- 00:12:53accommodation? you know, like a you
- 00:12:54know, for I use the word backpacker, but
- 00:12:57you know, let's say cheaper
- 00:12:58accommodation than Palm Cove offers, you
- 00:13:01know, that would be excellent over
- 00:13:02there. It would be, but that's all in
- 00:13:03it's up that's up to the private sector,
- 00:13:05dude, because it's it's not state or
- 00:13:07council own land. Yeah. We need you need
- 00:13:09someone from the private sector to come
- 00:13:10in and have a vision with one trail
- 00:13:13going in. You could put accommodation
- 00:13:14there. There's lots of ideas. You just
- 00:13:16need someone with the right concept,
- 00:13:17right idea, and enough money to see it
- 00:13:19through and build it. So, and a bit of
- 00:13:20leadership. But I'm sure Yeah, I'm sure
- 00:13:22if someone came along um that would be
- 00:13:24looked favorably upon by the planners
- 00:13:25because it's real. You see people all
- 00:13:27the time on all the all the Facebook
- 00:13:28groups saying, "I'm coming up to I'm
- 00:13:30coming up to Cans," you know, cuz
- 00:13:31they're all deserting Victoria like, you
- 00:13:33know, you wouldn't believe. Can't blame
- 00:13:34them for that. Yeah. Deserting Victoria
- 00:13:37and and Adelaide to a certain extent.
- 00:13:38And they're coming up here and they and
- 00:13:40they post, you know, okay, I'm coming up
- 00:13:42here now. Where should I look to live?
- 00:13:44And and and everybody writes back,
- 00:13:46rental occupancy rates are less than 1%.
- 00:13:48You know, you've got you've got bucklers
- 00:13:50basically. You know, they get
- 00:13:51disappointed, you know. Well, it's a big
- 00:13:53issue right across Australia, but up
- 00:13:55here like we're no exception. It's like
- 00:13:57hence teeth, isn't it? Accommodation up
- 00:13:58here. Okay, let's go. Staying in Palm
- 00:14:01Cove. Then the other thing I wanted to
- 00:14:03mention is the or ask about is if
- 00:14:05there's any news on you know the jetty
- 00:14:08area and double island or what the safe
- 00:14:10harbor or whatever whatever the various
- 00:14:12groups are proposing for that time.
- 00:14:14Yeah, there's a lot of passionate people
- 00:14:16in Park Grove which and we know a lot of
- 00:14:17them. And you guys probably know a lot
- 00:14:19of them, too. And it's great that
- 00:14:20they're passionate. We We had Gary Hunt,
- 00:14:22who's from Hunt Design, come up with a
- 00:14:24concept. I think you were there that
- 00:14:25night. I wasn't, actually. I missed it.
- 00:14:27Yeah. Yeah. I heard the outcome. There
- 00:14:30was a lot of venom. A lot of anger. But
- 00:14:33um but anyway, he just he come up with a
- 00:14:35concept and he's he said, "What about
- 00:14:36having a lagoon here?" because if Double
- 00:14:38Island cuz it's been taken back by the
- 00:14:40state of off fortune holdings um and
- 00:14:43they're they're having expression of
- 00:14:44interest right now. So it's out to
- 00:14:46tender and I know that the Morris Group
- 00:14:48is one of the people that have put a
- 00:14:49tender in and he's got Polaris Island.
- 00:14:52He's got um Orpheus Island, Mount
- 00:14:53Mullingan Station. He does a lot there's
- 00:14:55a lot of other people have put tenders
- 00:14:57in too but if we get a good operator in
- 00:14:59at Double Island then what Gary was
- 00:15:01saying is you're going to need Palm Cove
- 00:15:03to be operational, you know, have a
- 00:15:04function. I mean, I wouldn't I if I was
- 00:15:07looking at Palm Island as an not Palm
- 00:15:09Island, Double Island, double island as
- 00:15:11a renamed it. Yeah. Yeah. Well, Palm
- 00:15:13Islands off our town. Yeah. Um, if I was
- 00:15:18going to invest my money in there, I'd
- 00:15:19want to make sure that people get easy
- 00:15:21access to that island 100%. And so
- 00:15:24that's that's why Gary Hunt come up with
- 00:15:25a concept and a lot of people got really
- 00:15:27angry because he put a lagoon in his
- 00:15:29concept, which is a great idea. I think
- 00:15:30it's a great idea, but you'd have to
- 00:15:32move the caravan park and a lot of
- 00:15:33people are attached to it. But anyway,
- 00:15:35he was just putting a concept out there
- 00:15:36and got attacked uh viciously over it.
- 00:15:38But um I've been talking So I had Mark
- 00:15:41and this is breaking news actually.
- 00:15:42You're the first person to know to hear
- 00:15:43this. So um well sorry the first public
- 00:15:46person to hear this. I've been talking
- 00:15:48to uh TTNQ Mark Olsen called me probably
- 00:15:51about a week ago only. And TTNQ is what?
- 00:15:53Uh Tourism Trop Tropical Tourism North
- 00:15:55Queensland. I mean I know what it is but
- 00:15:57somebody people listening Victoria or
- 00:15:59whatever. Yeah. Tourism tropical North
- 00:16:00Queensland. So they're the big uh
- 00:16:02tourism body uh that does from like um I
- 00:16:05think they do from Mission Beach all the
- 00:16:06way to the torist straight and out to
- 00:16:08the Northern Territory border. Um canes
- 00:16:10is obviously their main hub. Cans Port
- 00:16:12Douglas uh focus area because all boats
- 00:16:15rise in a high tide. You got to get
- 00:16:16people here. But um he called me last
- 00:16:18week or 10 days ago and he said he goes
- 00:16:20hold I've been told by someone in main
- 00:16:22roads cuz the jetty at Palm Co is owned
- 00:16:25by the Department of Transport main
- 00:16:27roads and um Marine Safety Queensland
- 00:16:29MSQ uh but council is responsible for
- 00:16:32the maintenance. We get paid to do the
- 00:16:34maintenance on it by the state and so
- 00:16:36cleaning it and everything else but the
- 00:16:37structural integrity any structural
- 00:16:39damage is the responsibility of the
- 00:16:40state. And he goes, "Someone told him
- 00:16:42that um the boats can go there, like you
- 00:16:45know, Great Adventures, Quicksilver, all
- 00:16:46these places." And boats can go, they
- 00:16:48used to when they first started in the '
- 00:16:5090s. They used to go there cuz that's
- 00:16:51what jetties are built for. They're not
- 00:16:52just built for fishing. That's right.
- 00:16:53But we've we've always been told I've
- 00:16:55always heard that because of safety
- 00:16:56issues, they've stopped doing it. Now,
- 00:16:59he said, "O someone's told me that um
- 00:17:02all they need is a is a permit off
- 00:17:04council." And I said, "That doesn't
- 00:17:05sound right to me cuz it doesn't why
- 00:17:07would counsel be involved in anything on
- 00:17:08the water?" But anyway, I um I said I'd
- 00:17:11look into it. So I made some phone
- 00:17:12calls, made a lot of phone calls
- 00:17:13actually, and end up getting on onto
- 00:17:15someone, an officer in Brisbane from
- 00:17:17DTMR, and I found out a lot of
- 00:17:19information. One, boats can use it.
- 00:17:21Yeah. So that and and the I said, well,
- 00:17:23it does get a bit rough at times though.
- 00:17:25The southeast of these get really rough
- 00:17:26at times. Um but I'll get on to some
- 00:17:28information about that, too. But anyway,
- 00:17:30right now, council is the one that has
- 00:17:32to give the permit, which no one at
- 00:17:34council knows about. So the
- 00:17:35communication has been terrible as well
- 00:17:37I think the last government was very
- 00:17:38hard to work I know for a fact the last
- 00:17:40government was very hard to work with we
- 00:17:42from from from elected person to elected
- 00:17:44person from officer to bureaucrat it was
- 00:17:46they were very standoffish and it was a
- 00:17:49patriarchal like we're the parent you
- 00:17:51have a child go in the corner that's all
- 00:17:53changed and I'll get on to that when we
- 00:17:54talk about Cora Beach how that
- 00:17:55relationship's changed which is an
- 00:17:57awesome thing for the community but but
- 00:18:00anyway no one at council knows that we
- 00:18:02can give permits for that I found out
- 00:18:04I've got all the information from Main
- 00:18:05Roads. We absolutely can. They said,
- 00:18:08"And because it's a jetty, it's built
- 00:18:10for that. You'd get your permit within 2
- 00:18:12days." So, I've given that information
- 00:18:13to Mark Olsen. We've given that to Brie
- 00:18:15James. Um, and it looks like there's
- 00:18:18already some activity, some people that
- 00:18:19want to bring boats back there to do
- 00:18:21nighttime dinner cruises and stuff.
- 00:18:22Excellent. I'm not going to say who it
- 00:18:23is. Yeah, that would be fantastic. But
- 00:18:25that's a real thing that could happen
- 00:18:26here. I guess who it is this year. Yeah.
- 00:18:28But anyway, um, but that would be great.
- 00:18:30Any activity for Palm Co is awesome.
- 00:18:32That's breaking news, especially later
- 00:18:33in the evening. Absolutely. When it
- 00:18:35comes down, but I also talked to this
- 00:18:37representative at Main Roads and I asked
- 00:18:40him um I asked him what ever happened to
- 00:18:42the studies the last government. Craig
- 00:18:44Crawford was the last member for Baron
- 00:18:46and he did get Main Roads to look into
- 00:18:48some form of wave mitigation to help
- 00:18:50with the southeasterly and I know Gary
- 00:18:52Hunt was talking about the Rock Groins.
- 00:18:54Uh what I've been told from Brisbane is
- 00:18:56Breto that's that's not going to happen.
- 00:18:57Um it's it's part of the Great Bay Reef
- 00:18:59Marine Park. That's right. It is north
- 00:19:01of Triny Beach that it's federal that So
- 00:19:03the Great Bay Reef Marine Park Authority
- 00:19:05is a federal federal waters. Yeah. Cuz
- 00:19:07they got the Pippy they got the Pippy
- 00:19:09grounds at Clifton. They're not going to
- 00:19:10got all kinds of issues. So he goes he
- 00:19:12goes environmental um anything can be
- 00:19:14overcome, but it would take
- 00:19:16multi-millions of dollars, a lot of
- 00:19:17years. And he goes, "It's unrealistic
- 00:19:19that you'd ever get a groin built
- 00:19:20there." He goes, "But we've looked at
- 00:19:22wave mitigation." He goes, and I said,
- 00:19:23"What ever happened to that?" Because I
- 00:19:24know before the election you guys were
- 00:19:26doing a study. He goes, "We've completed
- 00:19:28the study. We gave it to the last
- 00:19:30government. They never brought it out."
- 00:19:31And but this new government, he goes,
- 00:19:32"No one's asked for it. All we need is
- 00:19:34an official letter." So, I've written an
- 00:19:36official letter and we're going to find
- 00:19:37cuz what they've come up with is wave
- 00:19:39screens. Now, they're not going to
- 00:19:40attach to the jetty because if you
- 00:19:42attach to the jetty, you can affect the
- 00:19:43integrity of the structure. The jetty
- 00:19:45down. So, these wave screens, they're
- 00:19:47not going to 100% fix all the problems
- 00:19:48with the southeasterlys, but they will
- 00:19:50do a lot they'll slow it down a lot to
- 00:19:51make it a lot safer. the northerlys you
- 00:19:54won't have any protection at all with
- 00:19:55the wave screens but the northerlys
- 00:19:57aren't as bad as about three or four
- 00:19:58months a year you get them a couple bad
- 00:20:00days but also I asked him I said so if
- 00:20:02council give the permit they the
- 00:20:05liability what if someone it pulls up
- 00:20:07the southeasteries or norleys someone
- 00:20:09falls in or whatever it breaks the leg
- 00:20:11who's responsible and he goes no the
- 00:20:13onus is always on the owner of the boat
- 00:20:15whether it's private or commercial
- 00:20:16contractor so um but anyway that's
- 00:20:18really exciting news it is so what we
- 00:20:20need to do is with the state government
- 00:20:22They um they're looking at obviously the
- 00:20:24Wanged Getty Trail. Yeah. They're
- 00:20:25looking at Double Island. They've got a
- 00:20:26tender out now. Yeah. They are going to
- 00:20:28be spending money in and around the Palm
- 00:20:29Cove area. So, we as a council um we've
- 00:20:32talked to all the councils and the
- 00:20:33mayor. We've got with um with Bri and
- 00:20:35the state. We're saying, "Well, we're
- 00:20:36going to spend money there too over the
- 00:20:37coming years. How about we align our
- 00:20:39what we're doing and get a better
- 00:20:41outcome overall rather than you doing
- 00:20:42your things, us doing us things, and
- 00:20:44it's all ad hoc. Let's work together.
- 00:20:46Let's let's try and elevate Palm Co."
- 00:20:48So, that's that's the plan. But if we
- 00:20:50can start getting some activity with the
- 00:20:51boats there, um I mean that's that's
- 00:20:53going to increase tourism. Who knows if
- 00:20:56we could ever get Quicksilver then back.
- 00:20:57Maybe it's not commercially viable for
- 00:20:58them. Maybe that's why they stop. Maybe
- 00:21:00not. But they're allowed to right now.
- 00:21:01They're allowed to stop there. So that
- 00:21:03was very interesting news. And like I
- 00:21:05said, you're the first one to publicly
- 00:21:06hear about it. Yeah. Oh wow. That's
- 00:21:07that's that's very interesting, isn't
- 00:21:09it? Yeah. Yeah. It's exciting. Okay,
- 00:21:10let's carry on then. That's good news.
- 00:21:12And Iron Man's next weekend, too, guys,
- 00:21:13at Palm Co. Iron Man. Yeah, I'm going to
- 00:21:14actually go down and do some uh video of
- 00:21:16the Iron Man. You'll see me press on the
- 00:21:18horn for the start of the race. What
- 00:21:20time does it start? 4:00. Oh, no. No,
- 00:21:21no. I'll be down there probably at 5:00.
- 00:21:23But no, the first race starts at like I
- 00:21:25think 6 or 6:15 and then the next one's
- 00:21:27at like 7. This is on Sunday. On Sunday?
- 00:21:30Yeah. Next Sunday. I'll be I'll be down
- 00:21:31there doing some filming. I think cuz I
- 00:21:33think it'll be exciting. I'm sure people
- 00:21:35interstate want to or overseas want to
- 00:21:36see it as well. Oh, it's fantastic.
- 00:21:38Yeah, absolutely. You got a lot of
- 00:21:39people looking at the channel from
- 00:21:41Victoria want to come up. Yeah, that's
- 00:21:42what makes them want to come up. Where
- 00:21:44else would you want to be in winter than
- 00:21:46right here? Have a look around. is
- 00:21:47amazing, isn't it? Yeah. Okay. So, we
- 00:21:49we've covered the Wangetti, the zoo,
- 00:21:50opal uh double island and so on. So, I'm
- 00:21:53I'm assuming that then when the guy when
- 00:21:55the the guy or the company take over a
- 00:21:58double island, if they do, they'll get a
- 00:21:59permit to run a boat. Well, yeah, you'd
- 00:22:02imagine they do that, too. So, um and
- 00:22:03the I actually talked to Chris Morris
- 00:22:05the other day. I got to meet him. Um he
- 00:22:08said, "Look, he's got no issues. Even
- 00:22:09Even Blue Even um Yorkies know Marina is
- 00:22:12not too far away." I think I think it
- 00:22:14is. I think it is, too. I mean, you know
- 00:22:15what it's like here. They don't even
- 00:22:17want to walk. People don't even want to
- 00:22:18walk from, you know, 500 meters, do
- 00:22:21they? I can't get a park in front of my
- 00:22:22pie shop. I'll drive 20ks to the next
- 00:22:24bakery. Yeah. Hey, while we're in Palm
- 00:22:26Cove, I will say one other thing which
- 00:22:27has been finished. And I don't know if
- 00:22:28you can walk down it. I'm going to do a
- 00:22:30video, too. It's been years since I've
- 00:22:32been in almost a decade. U people in
- 00:22:34Vivas Road have always wanted a
- 00:22:35footpath. I was going to ask you about
- 00:22:37that. Yeah. It's such a long area. It
- 00:22:38was so expensive. Um and then the the
- 00:22:41state government were talking about
- 00:22:42shutting off the highway there at some
- 00:22:43stage. It's still in the plans, future
- 00:22:45plans, but it's probably never going to
- 00:22:46happen. But we got it done. We We got it
- 00:22:49in the budget. We got it done. That
- 00:22:50wasn't an easy thing to get done, guys.
- 00:22:51I know there was a lot of impatient
- 00:22:53people out there, and rightly so. It's
- 00:22:55dangerous road to walk on with pram and
- 00:22:56elderly, but we got the win. The wheels
- 00:22:58of government turned slow. Um, how you
- 00:23:01doing, guys? That was a fight. Um, I do
- 00:23:03have a I do have a slight complaint from
- 00:23:05somebody on that on that foot path. We
- 00:23:07got the foot path then and there's
- 00:23:08complaints. That's a complaint. Yeah.
- 00:23:09So, I can be your first complaint. Yeah.
- 00:23:11Yeah. Apparently, this person was
- 00:23:13telling me that cuz I mentioned I'm
- 00:23:14going to have a chat with uh with you
- 00:23:16and I said he he said, "What are you
- 00:23:18going to talk about?" So, I said, "I'll
- 00:23:19run through these things." And I said,
- 00:23:21and I think uh Brett wants to mention
- 00:23:23something about the footpath as well.
- 00:23:25So, I he said, "Which footpath?" The one
- 00:23:27on Vivas Road. He said, "Oh, couldn't
- 00:23:28you ask him this then?" Yeah.
- 00:23:30Apparently, you know the crossovers,
- 00:23:32that's where your driveway comes over
- 00:23:33the council part of the land to get to
- 00:23:35the to the road, right? It's called a
- 00:23:37crossover.
- 00:23:39Apparently there's you seem to have gone
- 00:23:41through every crossover except the bad
- 00:23:43one and and the the footpath stopped
- 00:23:45either side. It's a crossover that's
- 00:23:47made of rickety old paving stones or
- 00:23:50something and and and and council have
- 00:23:52sort of stopped either side and haven't
- 00:23:54had Oh, I'll have to go look at that.
- 00:23:56And apparently it's a rickety one, not
- 00:23:57the but all the other ones apparently
- 00:23:59are good. Yeah. Well, no, I'll have a
- 00:24:00look at that cuz no said apart from that
- 00:24:02it's good cuz we want wheelchairs. You
- 00:24:03want all ability access
- 00:24:05and you wouldn't get wheelchair across
- 00:24:07there. I'll go for a drive this
- 00:24:08afternoon and uh and check it out. But
- 00:24:10no, that I imagine I mean the guys are
- 00:24:12awesome. I imagine that's either an
- 00:24:14oversight or they're coming back later
- 00:24:16to do something else. That's what I
- 00:24:17said. I said they're probably coming
- 00:24:18back later to Yeah, they won't leave it
- 00:24:19like that. And if Yeah, if they do, I'll
- 00:24:21slap them and if if I'm wrong, they'll
- 00:24:23slap. Okay, that's that. That's good.
- 00:24:24That's good. Well done. Well done. So,
- 00:24:27continue on Viva's Road, the toilet next
- 00:24:29to Viva's Cafe. I noticed there's some I
- 00:24:32I meant to take a a video of it and put
- 00:24:34it on this part of the chat, but I never
- 00:24:35got around to it. But the it looks like
- 00:24:38somebody's in there. I saw electricians
- 00:24:40in there the other day with their vans.
- 00:24:41Looks like it's in that like culdeac
- 00:24:43area, isn't it? Yeah, it's that
- 00:24:44culde-sac area is where it's going to
- 00:24:45go. But I was we've been obviously
- 00:24:47working on the budget. Um we're going to
- 00:24:48deliver it on June 25th, the new budget
- 00:24:50and it's in the do budget documents, but
- 00:24:52it's been pushed out um to year I think
- 00:24:55year five or six. So it's still 5 years
- 00:24:56away before they build that toilet at
- 00:24:58this stage. I'm doing everything I can
- 00:25:00to bring I'll have to hold on then.
- 00:25:01Well, yeah. Well, because they've got
- 00:25:02money put in the budget for this next
- 00:25:04year to fix up the the middle toilets
- 00:25:06there at Peppers. So, we're going to
- 00:25:08we're going to bring those back up. The
- 00:25:09one next to Chalk D. Yeah, they're a
- 00:25:11bit dirty. So, we're going to we're
- 00:25:13going to seats on it though. Unlike some
- 00:25:15of these other toilets. Yeah. But, so
- 00:25:17toilets are expensive, guys. Like to
- 00:25:19build a brand new toilet, it can be half
- 00:25:20a million dollars or more in some
- 00:25:22instances. Uh which is like how can it
- 00:25:24be that expense for a toilet? You can
- 00:25:25build a whole house for less than that
- 00:25:27with toilets in it. when it's a seat
- 00:25:28warmers, you know, those seat warmers
- 00:25:30you put on, mate. It's we need we need a
- 00:25:32department of government efficiency like
- 00:25:33that in America looking at why are
- 00:25:35things so expensive at government and um
- 00:25:37there is there is reasons some reasons
- 00:25:39for it, but I'm like that's a
- 00:25:40ridiculous. They can put those Japanese
- 00:25:42toilets in, you know, that where they
- 00:25:43just squat over them. Yes. No, you know,
- 00:25:45the normal toilets, but you press the
- 00:25:46buttons and it and it washes. Oh, the
- 00:25:48bed. Yeah, that would be lovely. It's
- 00:25:51just another It's just another thing to
- 00:25:52break down. Maintenance bill. Yeah.
- 00:25:53Maintenance. No. So, we won't be putting
- 00:25:55them in.
- 00:25:56Yeah, that toilet at this stage is five
- 00:25:57or six years away on the southern end of
- 00:25:59Beaver's Road. But I am trying to bring
- 00:26:01it forward cuz like I said, it's about
- 00:26:02half a million dollars cuz it's it's a
- 00:26:03bit of an anomaly down the end, isn't
- 00:26:05it? Where you got toilets in the caravan
- 00:26:06park up at the north, you got toilets
- 00:26:08near the surf place in the uh surf club
- 00:26:11in the in the center and then you you've
- 00:26:14got nothing down south. No, it took some
- 00:26:15of the restaurants they don't have
- 00:26:16toilets. Yeah, it took us years to find
- 00:26:18out a place to put it cuz everyone
- 00:26:19wanted a toilet, but no one wanted it in
- 00:26:20front of their business. That's right.
- 00:26:22So, but we found a place to put it to
- 00:26:24the money. No, you cannot screen it. You
- 00:26:26know, it is going to be screened with
- 00:26:28vegetation. I I honestly I think I can
- 00:26:31get it brought forward. Um I don't like
- 00:26:32making promises. At this stage, I think
- 00:26:34it's too far out. But this is another
- 00:26:36thing. While we're working with the
- 00:26:37state government, what do you put money
- 00:26:38into? We've got money in the budget.
- 00:26:40Let's bring it forward and let's align
- 00:26:41our works cuz the other thing is if they
- 00:26:43do work down in Palm Cove and then we
- 00:26:44start doing work, they finish then we do
- 00:26:46ours. The disruption is twice as long.
- 00:26:48So you want to plan it together. So if
- 00:26:50there's going to be a disruption, let's
- 00:26:51all get in do it at once. So these are
- 00:26:53all conversations we're having. I can't
- 00:26:54make promises now, but I'm doing
- 00:26:56everything I can to try and get that
- 00:26:58toilet built. It needs to be done
- 00:26:59quicker. It's like it's it's it's up at
- 00:27:02the moment. My priority my priority list
- 00:27:04is really long and that is up there.
- 00:27:05It's not number one, but it is it it
- 00:27:07does need to happen. Yeah. Okay, moving
- 00:27:09on then. Where did I get to? We've done
- 00:27:11Palm Cove. Okay, let's go down to
- 00:27:12Clifton Beach. I noticed that you you or
- 00:27:15I did a video, I don't know whether you
- 00:27:16saw it on the channel about the soil the
- 00:27:19soil the uh sand mitigation sand erosion
- 00:27:22mitigation plan and I showed people
- 00:27:24where it was, but I noticed that
- 00:27:25everybody's fenced off the they've gone
- 00:27:27a bit crazy with the red with the red
- 00:27:29barriers and taped off the whole of the
- 00:27:31playground there. Yeah. Well, you I
- 00:27:33hadn't seen it. You told me about off
- 00:27:35air this morning. Um I'll go up and
- 00:27:36check it out and I will ask the
- 00:27:38question. I imagine it's all
- 00:27:39occupational health and safety. I
- 00:27:41imagine they don't want kids running
- 00:27:42around. We're about to have some huge
- 00:27:44trucks rolling in with big boulders. Um,
- 00:27:46a lot of work's going on. There will be
- 00:27:47some trees that get removed and cut
- 00:27:49down. I think they've already done that.
- 00:27:50Yeah. Yeah. And then they're gonna they
- 00:27:51will do replantings. Um, but we need
- 00:27:54access to the beach and all that. I I
- 00:27:56just think it's maybe it's it's safety
- 00:27:58on steroids, but you'd rather be
- 00:28:00overprotective and over safe than just
- 00:28:02skip something, have a kid run around a
- 00:28:03playground and then something happen.
- 00:28:04So, I believe that's what it will be.
- 00:28:06Well, I suggest that rather than do it
- 00:28:08that way, they should just close off the
- 00:28:09the car park, you know, just close it
- 00:28:10off. Just close it off. Yeah. at the at
- 00:28:12the road entrance, you know. Yeah, I
- 00:28:13haven't I haven't been up and seen it
- 00:28:14and I haven't talked to the boys. Come
- 00:28:16out and tape up everything. Yeah, from
- 00:28:18the entrances. I should have gone up and
- 00:28:19seen I I've been so this last two weeks
- 00:28:21I've been so flat stick. I did go for a
- 00:28:22drive there um I think a week and a half
- 00:28:24ago and it wasn't closed off at that
- 00:28:26stage. So it must have just happened
- 00:28:27within last when are they likely to
- 00:28:28start with the the boulders? It's this
- 00:28:30month. So it's it's any day now. It's
- 00:28:32any week now cuz I notic you've removed
- 00:28:34the trees from the what the Clifton
- 00:28:36Beach uh playground area and you've
- 00:28:38moved removed the trees on the other two
- 00:28:40areas. In fact, when in the videos you
- 00:28:41were just doing the last one with the
- 00:28:43tree removal. Yeah. Um, so I'd imagine
- 00:28:46they'd be starting. Yeah, they'll be
- 00:28:47starting any day. Yeah. I like I said, I
- 00:28:49went down there about 10 days ago to try
- 00:28:50and make a video myself. I'm like, "Oh,
- 00:28:52they haven't started nothing yet." So,
- 00:28:53it's all it's all happened in the last
- 00:28:55few days. And Okay. So, you I think you
- 00:28:57mentioned to me ages ago that that
- 00:28:59you've done something similar to
- 00:29:00hollowways. We've done the exact Yeah.
- 00:29:01the exact same three headlands that are
- 00:29:03hollows. So, it's built like a mushroom.
- 00:29:05So rather than being a rock wall or
- 00:29:07groin or groin that goes straight out
- 00:29:09perpendicular if you do that and I'm not
- 00:29:12an engineer but I talk to a lot of
- 00:29:13engineers they say you get sand build up
- 00:29:15on one side but it eats away at the
- 00:29:17other and the rock wall the same thing
- 00:29:18and and the one at Clifton the it eats
- 00:29:20out at the northern end so they're
- 00:29:22making these like mushroom headlands
- 00:29:24it's kind of similar to the one at Ellis
- 00:29:25Beach has been there since the ' 50s or
- 00:29:2760s. How's it how's it worked? Has it
- 00:29:28worked well? Yeah, it's worked well at
- 00:29:29Ellis and apparently the ones at
- 00:29:30Holloways are going well now. The ones
- 00:29:32at Hollowways though they after they
- 00:29:34built them they put sand nourishment in
- 00:29:36behind it. So we haven't had king tides
- 00:29:38and everything since. So it's it's still
- 00:29:40but the engineers are saying this is
- 00:29:41what they think the bees need. They
- 00:29:43think it's working. Yeah cuz it's not
- 00:29:45eating out on either side. It's the sand
- 00:29:46is building up and we're hoping that
- 00:29:48it'll actually it'll help down here at
- 00:29:49Quir as well um by that sand being held
- 00:29:52up at Clifton Beach cuz sand has come
- 00:29:55back. Mother nature's brought it back at
- 00:29:56Palm Cove at Trinity Beach and at
- 00:29:58Clifton just recently. I thought the
- 00:29:59council had been there with the trucks
- 00:30:01dumping sand cuz it's looked like it's
- 00:30:03all mounded up almost about a meter
- 00:30:04high. I made a comment on one of the
- 00:30:06videos looks like council have been here
- 00:30:07putting sand in but any is mother nature
- 00:30:10and it's awesome but but Cora Beach
- 00:30:12missed out. They haven't had we haven't
- 00:30:13had that kind of sand come back yet. So
- 00:30:16and that's when we get to Cora Beach
- 00:30:17I'll tell you the update for there. But
- 00:30:18no, so Clifton Beach works imminent any
- 00:30:21day now. Um and I'm really excited cuz
- 00:30:23it it was a great project at Holloways.
- 00:30:25Apparently it seems to be working. It's
- 00:30:27only been brand new there for a few a
- 00:30:28few months now. We'll see what happens
- 00:30:30at Clifton, but if the engineers are
- 00:30:32right, um I should be on a winner. Oh,
- 00:30:34good. Okay, let's get on to Koara then.
- 00:30:36We're at Kuara now. You know, as you saw
- 00:30:38when we when we came in, I showed you
- 00:30:40the beach and everything. It's
- 00:30:41beautiful. I love it. This beach when
- 00:30:42the when the sea's out, it's nice and
- 00:30:44flat all the way out. It's the best one
- 00:30:46for Clifton's more like a It's a ski
- 00:30:48slope, you know. Yeah. Yeah, it is. One
- 00:30:49of my mates broke his neck literally and
- 00:30:51he's in a quadriplegic now at Clifton
- 00:30:53from running and diving in because of
- 00:30:54the gutters there. Porov Beach and
- 00:30:56York's Knob don't have the gutters. See,
- 00:30:58Clifton really gets undermined, doesn't
- 00:31:00it, by the ocean. I mean, Palm Cove, not
- 00:31:02a little bit. And here it's it's flat,
- 00:31:05you know, it's almost like mud flats in
- 00:31:07the in the city, you know. Stand up
- 00:31:08paddle boarding and kayaking here. And
- 00:31:10you get nice waves that break way out
- 00:31:12and they roll in. And when you're on a
- 00:31:13when you're on a surf ski, you can catch
- 00:31:14them all in. It's Now, Kora Beach is is
- 00:31:16amazing. So, it's amazing. So, I love
- 00:31:18the place and it's dear to my heart.
- 00:31:19Kawara Beach. So, I've been going on and
- 00:31:21banging on about, you know, it needs
- 00:31:23some TLC. He probably I probably told
- 00:31:25you as well for the last 2 and a half
- 00:31:26years some TLC cuz the place just looks
- 00:31:30dirty doesn't it? I mean it's not that I
- 00:31:33mean I come down I I do these walks a
- 00:31:35lot and I I see the council here
- 00:31:37cleaning the barbecues cleaning the
- 00:31:39toilets with the blower around doing
- 00:31:41everything new playground the same as
- 00:31:44they do all the at Clifton the same as
- 00:31:45they do at the other parts of Cook Cove
- 00:31:47you know so it's not for want of effort
- 00:31:49but it just I don't know it just doesn't
- 00:31:52doesn't have that impact you know it
- 00:31:53seems to be dirty you know well because
- 00:31:55when you go for a walk like and we could
- 00:31:56see and you probably shown them we have
- 00:31:58done sand nourishment here a few months
- 00:32:00ago and we've actually a Few weeks ago,
- 00:32:02we're allowed to um get excavators and
- 00:32:04push sand from low tide to high tide.
- 00:32:06And we've done sand ocean in the past
- 00:32:07because this place here, this concrete
- 00:32:09slab almost got undermined after Jasper
- 00:32:12then again in February. And uh it's
- 00:32:14you've got all these dead trees.
- 00:32:15Council's come down and if tree was
- 00:32:17looking unsafe, they were allowed to cut
- 00:32:19it down, but then they had to leave the
- 00:32:20tree. Leave it. That's ridiculous. And
- 00:32:22you probably got videos of that. Have
- 00:32:23you got videos of it? Yeah. So, and it's
- 00:32:25been terrible. And you got all these
- 00:32:26people that live here and all these
- 00:32:27locals come down saying, "Mate, this is
- 00:32:28a beautiful beach. Why are we being
- 00:32:30treated like some remote wilderness
- 00:32:31beach with the trees? Why can't you
- 00:32:33remove them? And the previous government
- 00:32:35and I sat in Craig Crawford's office
- 00:32:37with different department um bureaucrats
- 00:32:39with council officers there and got told
- 00:32:41no, you can't touch them because that's
- 00:32:43a new home. Sedges can get in there.
- 00:32:44Yeah. For the crabs. Yeah. Crabs and
- 00:32:46marine life. It can be a new home for
- 00:32:47them. And I'm like, this is mental. But
- 00:32:49it doesn't. You don't do this at the
- 00:32:51Gold Coast. You don't do this at
- 00:32:52Sunshine Coast, any other beach in the
- 00:32:53state. You don't really do it at Palm
- 00:32:54Cove either, really. No, that's right.
- 00:32:55No, exactly. So I I went off my I went
- 00:32:57off my tits about it, you know, and but
- 00:32:59I didn't get anywhere with the last
- 00:33:00government. So this current uh
- 00:33:02government that changed um I got on to
- 00:33:03Brie James. She did send a letter on
- 00:33:05behalf of residents down here to the
- 00:33:07minister for department of environment
- 00:33:09tourism. He sent a letter back to the
- 00:33:11residents with some conflicting
- 00:33:13information which got them very angry
- 00:33:14saying Brett is a liar. It's all on
- 00:33:16council. It's all on council and it's
- 00:33:18not council needs permission off the
- 00:33:20state to do any works below the high
- 00:33:21tide mark. And um but anyway, we got
- 00:33:24through that when I I met with the
- 00:33:25residents down here and said I explained
- 00:33:27to her no I got I got letters from
- 00:33:28council saying this is how it works and
- 00:33:31but then Bri so she took it a step
- 00:33:32further Brie James and she wrote to the
- 00:33:34minister for department of fisheries
- 00:33:36which I'm like department of fisheries
- 00:33:38you know you got department of natural
- 00:33:39resources m energy you got department of
- 00:33:41environment and tourism department of
- 00:33:43fisheries you got the great barrier for
- 00:33:44me that's why they call red tape it's
- 00:33:45red tape everywhere but to Bree no to
- 00:33:47Bree's credit she's been awesome to work
- 00:33:49with she called up uh she wrote a letter
- 00:33:50to the minister of department of
- 00:33:51fisheries And all of a sudden, I had one
- 00:33:53of the officers call me. And officers
- 00:33:54don't usually call elected people cuz
- 00:33:56they're not allowed to. Yeah. Unless
- 00:33:57they got ministerial permission. Anyway,
- 00:33:59he called me up and he goes, "Look, I
- 00:34:00want to come down. I want you to show me
- 00:34:02what what's going on at Quar Beach." And
- 00:34:04I said, "That would be lovely, mate."
- 00:34:05And the next week, they had three
- 00:34:07officers here. We had two officers from
- 00:34:09council, myself, so we had six of us,
- 00:34:10and we walked the whole beach. And they
- 00:34:12said, "Common sense prevailed," which is
- 00:34:14right. He just, the guy said, "You know
- 00:34:15what? You do need state permission, but
- 00:34:18at a king tide, you know, which comes up
- 00:34:21way up to here, any anytime you walk on
- 00:34:24the sand is going to be a safety hazard.
- 00:34:25So under the safety hazards, you can
- 00:34:27just remove them. And so council just
- 00:34:29have to write to them, tell them. So
- 00:34:30we're going to come down and by June
- 00:34:3127th, it'll all be removed. All that
- 00:34:33dead wood that's been there for 2 and a
- 00:34:34half years. Finally, we got some good
- 00:34:37news for people living at Kawara Beach.
- 00:34:39Breaking news. In fact, I'm going to
- 00:34:40have a public meeting in the next week
- 00:34:41or so. So that's again, you got two lots
- 00:34:43of breaking news on here. But it's but
- 00:34:45it's it's been I I appreciate all the um
- 00:34:47the residents for working with us. I
- 00:34:49know there's been some anger at times.
- 00:34:51Uh and I've shared that frustration.
- 00:34:53It's it's pissed me off. I'll be honest.
- 00:34:55Like yeah, where was the common sense
- 00:34:57for the last 2 and a half years? It just
- 00:34:58took one guy to come down here, have a
- 00:35:00look at it, and say, "No, no, you can
- 00:35:01you can do this." And I'm like, "Well,
- 00:35:02thank God." But anyway, so council will
- 00:35:05come down here. We There will be some
- 00:35:06other trees that Lover some of the palm
- 00:35:08trees. They'll probably be cut down.
- 00:35:10Yeah. But they will be quick and they're
- 00:35:12weeds anyway. Yeah. They're going to
- 00:35:13Well, they're not going to replace them
- 00:35:14with palms cuz it's expensive to nut
- 00:35:16them. It is. But there will be
- 00:35:18replacement trees for everyone that's
- 00:35:19come down. Not she cuz they look No, not
- 00:35:21she. Yeah, they look a bit struggling.
- 00:35:23Well, the nuts that come down, but
- 00:35:25they're struggling and they make a mess.
- 00:35:26Those Yeah, those little balls of pines
- 00:35:28that they fall and the needles
- 00:35:29everywhere. No, no, but we will be doing
- 00:35:31replantings. The So, that's the that's
- 00:35:33the immediate future. That's what we'll
- 00:35:34be doing. Clean because it does need a
- 00:35:36clean. I mean I as I said to you you
- 00:35:39know over the over the the years or
- 00:35:41months or whatever you know it's all
- 00:35:43very well to let the trees there and and
- 00:35:45council come along and saw them into
- 00:35:47little bits and then the and the tide
- 00:35:49takes them off so they become a boating
- 00:35:50hazard become someone else somebody
- 00:35:52else's boating hazard. I think no that's
- 00:35:54not right that's not right do the real
- 00:35:56thing you know get rid of them 100%.
- 00:35:57Yeah, if it was a remote beach in the
- 00:35:59wilderness, you get it. Falls over, you
- 00:36:00live it there. But this is a public
- 00:36:02beach. People live here. Half those
- 00:36:03trees were planted by humans. You know,
- 00:36:04it's like to look pretty. But but
- 00:36:06anyway, that's that's the immediate good
- 00:36:08news. In the short-term good news, the
- 00:36:10the midterm is where Department of
- 00:36:13Environment, Tourism, Science, and
- 00:36:15Innovation, DETI, uh they applied, they
- 00:36:18talked to council about and they've
- 00:36:19applied through the DER funding, the
- 00:36:21disaster relief fund to try and get um
- 00:36:24sand nourishment. So, we're pushing sand
- 00:36:26around. It's expensive putting
- 00:36:28truckloads of sand here, especially when
- 00:36:29it gets washed away the next week. Yeah.
- 00:36:31But but the that is that's not 100%
- 00:36:33guaranteed it's happening yet, but it's
- 00:36:35sounding positive. So hopefully we can
- 00:36:37after we clean all that up, we'll get
- 00:36:38some sand dumped down here. And then the
- 00:36:40third thing in the longer term, I'm
- 00:36:41working with JCU, the state and council
- 00:36:44on a plan for some beach rectification.
- 00:36:46So some post and rail. So if we put post
- 00:36:48and rail in, you only have certain
- 00:36:50sections people can go down. That
- 00:36:51protects the dunes and other areas
- 00:36:53because you can see everyone just walks
- 00:36:54down. But that's a longerterm plan. I
- 00:36:56don't have any news on that. I I thought
- 00:36:58I'd get some last week, but there might
- 00:37:00be some good news coming real soon
- 00:37:02collaborating with with JCU, with the
- 00:37:04federal government, the state government
- 00:37:05council. So, yeah. So, we'll all chip in
- 00:37:07some money if it goes ahead. Kuar is
- 00:37:08getting some action finally. Better late
- 00:37:11than never. And it is late. I guarantee
- 00:37:13you it's it's it's 2 and a half years
- 00:37:15too late, but it's better late than
- 00:37:17never. So, you heard it here. Yeah, you
- 00:37:19heard it with Steo.
- 00:37:21Okay. What's the next one? I got to try
- 00:37:23and unlock this. Oh, it's let me unlock
- 00:37:25it. That's good. Okay, I've done the
- 00:37:26tidy up. Oh, they love Shack. Oh, they
- 00:37:30love Shack up there, you know. That's
- 00:37:32brilliant. I I want to take it over, but
- 00:37:34it's on private lands. I know, but I
- 00:37:35want to go and see this the the Chinese
- 00:37:37lady as Taiwanese. Yeah. I want to go
- 00:37:40and see her and say, can I take that
- 00:37:41over? I've got any money, but maybe do
- 00:37:43it as a cooperative. So, people, you
- 00:37:45know, we have a cooperative and sell
- 00:37:46shares or set up a company and set up
- 00:37:48the love shadow. Everyone used to love
- 00:37:50the beach for the beach hut. I I have
- 00:37:52I've asked for her details and I've
- 00:37:53asked council to write an email asking
- 00:37:56what her plans are with it because
- 00:37:58allegedly she doesn't want I can't talk
- 00:37:59on her behalf. I've never met her. But
- 00:38:00allegedly she's not interested in
- 00:38:02keeping that going and I'm like well
- 00:38:04yeah but other people would be. Yeah.
- 00:38:06Yeah. But it's her private land. I know.
- 00:38:07So it's either um cuz a lot of people
- 00:38:08think it's council land. No it's not.
- 00:38:10She's either got to lease out someone
- 00:38:11else do it up or in my opinion take it
- 00:38:13down cuz it's it's dilapidated. It's
- 00:38:15falling. You can't leave it like it is.
- 00:38:16And you kept recovering though. I went
- 00:38:18I've been there. I kept recovering it.
- 00:38:19The bones are good. All the all the
- 00:38:21posts are good. Y the roof is is there
- 00:38:24new roof. The containers there and the
- 00:38:26and the and the pizza ovens, they're all
- 00:38:28fine. They just need cleaning up. I
- 00:38:30reckon you could take take it and put
- 00:38:32the the chairs out there, mate. That's
- 00:38:34fantastic cuz Kowara is if you look
- 00:38:37around Cook Cove, I mean, you know this.
- 00:38:39I'm teaching to suck eggs here, whatever
- 00:38:41the saying is. But if you look at Cook
- 00:38:42Cove here, Palm Cove gets the raw deal
- 00:38:45because it gets the southeasterly
- 00:38:47straight directly on shore. Cleftton
- 00:38:49sort of gets it at a 45. We're protected
- 00:38:51by Taylor Point. You're protected by
- 00:38:53Taylor Point. Plus, the wind comes
- 00:38:55parallel with the with the beach. So,
- 00:38:56the love shack there is fantastic. Oh, I
- 00:38:58used to love going down there myself. I
- 00:38:59used to love it down there. Yeah. So, I
- 00:39:01I I have been trying to get in contact
- 00:39:02with her. I haven't met her yet. Um,
- 00:39:05obviously, again, it's not the top of my
- 00:39:07list, but it's on the list. And um but
- 00:39:09no, I I just think it looks awful the
- 00:39:11way it is. Well, hopefully she watches
- 00:39:12this. I hope she at least she she's a
- 00:39:14subscriber and she watches the channel
- 00:39:16because yeah, it's a great thing for
- 00:39:17locals and tourists alike. Um it's send
- 00:39:19me an email. It's in the description.
- 00:39:21Yeah. Nice. But no, so Kawari, we need
- 00:39:24some TLC. It's getting some TLC. Um
- 00:39:26excellent. And that's another thing we
- 00:39:28need to fix up. Yeah. Yeah. Excellent.
- 00:39:30Okay. So Trinity Beach, I've got um
- 00:39:32we've got more road. So which comes into
- 00:39:34the back of Taylor's Point. More road
- 00:39:36there has been like Viva's road for a
- 00:39:37long time. Really dangerous to walk on.
- 00:39:39Cars park on both sides of the road.
- 00:39:41People on pram, kids on bikes, they need
- 00:39:43a footpath for years and years and
- 00:39:45years. We finally got it and the works
- 00:39:46are starting I think this week. Are they
- 00:39:48doing are they doing any work over
- 00:39:49there? Cuz at night if you look out here
- 00:39:51there's lights all up. What's that for?
- 00:39:53I met with Ordress the guy that owns
- 00:39:54Taylor's Point. All those lights. B
- 00:39:56James and I met with him last week I
- 00:39:57think it was. And no, he puts the lights
- 00:39:59on to to uplight the trees cuz he just
- 00:40:01loves looking at at the nature and
- 00:40:03beauty. Cuz everybody's asking me,
- 00:40:04Steve, you know what's going on here?
- 00:40:06What's what's what's with all his
- 00:40:07lights? I said, I think it's the con the
- 00:40:09the construction at Taylor Point. No,
- 00:40:10he's not constructing anything. He's
- 00:40:12Well, he's he's got equipment there cuz
- 00:40:13he's in finding car bodies and put he's
- 00:40:15got 13 tons of concrete, car bodies and
- 00:40:18stuff stocked up there. So, we we
- 00:40:20Everybody used it as a dumping ground.
- 00:40:21Everyone uses dumping ground for ages.
- 00:40:22So, or that's how well people looked
- 00:40:24after the area. Oh, mate. It's it's
- 00:40:26terrible. We've done so many cleanups
- 00:40:27there on behalf of the previous owners,
- 00:40:28the community did, mate. It's there was
- 00:40:30washing machines, um pallets of stuff,
- 00:40:33tires, like it it burnt out cars. But
- 00:40:36anyway, Audress is doing a great job
- 00:40:37fixing that place up. He has fenced it
- 00:40:39off. Um he has approvals to build six
- 00:40:41houses up Morirana Street, but I don't
- 00:40:43think he's in a hurry to do that. If he
- 00:40:45does that, a foot path will have to come
- 00:40:46all the way out to the beach. Oh, that'
- 00:40:48be He actually like Kar resort and the
- 00:40:50other people at Taylor's Point, he owns
- 00:40:51down past into the water. He actually
- 00:40:53owns the beach, but I don't know if the
- 00:40:55state's going to do a survey and try and
- 00:40:57fix up some of these anomalies from the
- 00:40:581800s, but apparently they are because
- 00:41:01you're not supposed to be owned below
- 00:41:03the No, not in Australia. But anyway,
- 00:41:05he's we met with him last week. Um he's
- 00:41:08doing some great stuff out there. He has
- 00:41:10some yellow iron, but he's not
- 00:41:11constructing anything. He's just picking
- 00:41:12up. He's had lots of vandalism, death
- 00:41:14threats, like we're going to break your
- 00:41:15knees cuz locals that want to get the
- 00:41:17bit. Yeah. And the the hoons that used
- 00:41:18to go four-wheel driving down there.
- 00:41:20Like he's been abused a lot actually. Um
- 00:41:22but he seems like a really genuine nice
- 00:41:23bloke. So
- 00:41:25as long as he treats the environment
- 00:41:27with respect, you know, people don't
- 00:41:28really mind development. Well, not
- 00:41:30sensible people anyway. They don't mind
- 00:41:31development so long as it's done with
- 00:41:33respect, you know. Well, those those six
- 00:41:36houses that if he ever does develop
- 00:41:37them, which he's got permission to do,
- 00:41:38that those approvals were with the last
- 00:41:40owners, um that'll actually be a good
- 00:41:42outcome because it will stop four-wheel
- 00:41:44drive been able to get through access
- 00:41:45onto that land cuz you'll have houses
- 00:41:46there now. So, it actually it'll be a
- 00:41:49good outcome that developing that part
- 00:41:50at Morirana Street, I think, is a is is
- 00:41:52sensible. Yeah. No, it's beautiful over
- 00:41:55there, but you'll have a footpath there
- 00:41:56within weeks. So, and that's taken
- 00:41:58that's taken nine years as well. Oh,
- 00:41:59that's excellent. That's another good
- 00:42:00news. We're getting winds. We're getting
- 00:42:02wind. I'm just not doing a good job of
- 00:42:03getting on Facebook. I've been so busy.
- 00:42:05I've been traveling everywhere. What's
- 00:42:06good about the channel if people
- 00:42:07actually watch it, you know, they can
- 00:42:08they can learn things. The other thing I
- 00:42:10forgot about Clifton, there seems to be
- 00:42:12some um some uh work going on at the
- 00:42:15bike park, you know, on the other side
- 00:42:16of the road. Oh, yes. Yes. Near Rudder
- 00:42:18Street is that'll be Evergreen Park. So,
- 00:42:21um we're getting um World Trail. So,
- 00:42:23Glenn Jacobs and Dylan, the two partners
- 00:42:25there, they're building um a pump track
- 00:42:28for us. So, with a proper ashvault pump
- 00:42:30track for the bikes. Okay. So, it's just
- 00:42:32been dirt jumps over there for the
- 00:42:33longest time. They're going to build a
- 00:42:35U. I thought I didn't I thought people
- 00:42:36had just done that. I didn't realize
- 00:42:39actually I thought, "Oh, those kids are
- 00:42:40really great. They put all these mounds
- 00:42:42up there." There's been a lot of
- 00:42:44accidents over there and people with
- 00:42:45their own shovels making dangerous
- 00:42:46jumps. This is going to be next level.
- 00:42:49So, it'll be ready. I think they started
- 00:42:51works last Monday. It'll be ready in I
- 00:42:53saw them doing work. It'll be ready in 3
- 00:42:55weeks. And um and and you're going to
- 00:42:56love it. So, take your kids down there
- 00:42:58in about 3 weeks time. We'll go down and
- 00:42:59check the guys while they're building
- 00:43:00it. Yeah, the good local company. They
- 00:43:02work all around the world in the
- 00:43:03Netherlands, Tasmania, New Zealand.
- 00:43:05They're everywhere. But they're based
- 00:43:06out of canes. And um so we got good
- 00:43:08local contractors making great jumps
- 00:43:10right there. Maybe what I should do is I
- 00:43:12should I plan to do with the toilet area
- 00:43:14is maybe I should just take the camera
- 00:43:16around just do a little little few, you
- 00:43:18know, a couple of minute video of this
- 00:43:19bit that what we were talking about so
- 00:43:21people can see. Yeah, I've been planning
- 00:43:22on doing that myself. I got to find the
- 00:43:24maybe I'll do that. I might do that
- 00:43:25tomorrow cuz cuz people unless you
- 00:43:27remind people what you've been doing and
- 00:43:28what's happened and they just they
- 00:43:29think, "Oh, I haven't heard from oldie
- 00:43:30in a bit. He's been lazy." I promise you
- 00:43:32I haven't been lazy. I've been um we've
- 00:43:34been kicking goals and uh and I think
- 00:43:36there's been a lot of stuff happening on
- 00:43:37the beaches. So, I'll put out I'll have
- 00:43:39to do another video. I'll probably share
- 00:43:40I'll share your video. Lots of
- 00:43:42information here. Lots of breaking news.
- 00:43:44Yeah. Okay. That's I've run out of my
- 00:43:45list now. You said you had a couple of
- 00:43:47other points, didn't you? Have we done
- 00:43:48that? Yeah. Well, we talked about the um
- 00:43:50the path street. Yeah. More street. We
- 00:43:52just talked about that with the footpath
- 00:43:53there. Yeah. Um, no. Other than that, I
- 00:43:55guess what else is going on? There's
- 00:43:57We're delivering the budget in a few in
- 00:43:59a few days on June 25th. And that's
- 00:44:01always hard because everyone loves
- 00:44:02getting a rates bill, right? You know,
- 00:44:03it's you're on a hide to nothing. But
- 00:44:06I've actually I did a I did a show I got
- 00:44:08my own radio show and I I'll put that
- 00:44:10I'll put that up on Facebook, my last
- 00:44:11episode from this week, because it'll
- 00:44:13explain to you kind of like how rates
- 00:44:16work, why we're looking at doing
- 00:44:17different things like the retirement
- 00:44:18villages and relocatable park um caravan
- 00:44:21parks. If you if you watch the video,
- 00:44:23you put make a comment, put the link in
- 00:44:24the comment. Yeah, I'll do that. I don't
- 00:44:27really know much about YouTube to be
- 00:44:28honest. I'll ask I know lots, but I
- 00:44:31don't really I got a Spotify account
- 00:44:32this week with B Olds, but but no, so
- 00:44:34I've got a lot of good information I try
- 00:44:36and put out there. Um we had another
- 00:44:38controversial like last week we voted on
- 00:44:39the reconciliation action plan uh which
- 00:44:41myself and one other counselor,
- 00:44:43councelor Tickna, voted against and I
- 00:44:45speak about the reasons why I felt that
- 00:44:47way and I think if you hear the show
- 00:44:48it's better to explain. So, there is
- 00:44:50plenty going on, but I've only got a
- 00:44:51couple minutes. I've got a meeting in
- 00:44:52town with Bob Katar, actually talking
- 00:44:54about the new Range Road. Oh, I'll I'll
- 00:44:56let you know what I talk. Oh, yeah. Good
- 00:44:57old Bob. He got back in. He increased
- 00:44:59his primary. Oh, good. I like Bob. Yeah,
- 00:45:01but he was kind of open for a minority
- 00:45:03government. I was on the airplane once
- 00:45:04and he he sat sort of next to me over
- 00:45:05the aisle from me, which amazed me
- 00:45:07because I saw Paulie sat in business
- 00:45:08class, you know, but he sat No, he's
- 00:45:10economy. He sat in economy next to next
- 00:45:12to me and I said, "You know something,
- 00:45:14Bob, can I tell you this?" I said, "Your
- 00:45:16hat looks a lot bigger on TV.
- 00:45:19He he couldn't stop laughing the whole
- 00:45:21flight. No, he's he's a good guy. I He
- 00:45:24was hoping for minority government
- 00:45:25obviously so he could he could have more
- 00:45:27power, but he didn't get that outcome.
- 00:45:28Far from a minor. Yeah. 94 seats, mate.
- 00:45:31I don't know what happened. Yeah. Yeah.
- 00:45:33Well, that's another show in itself. But
- 00:45:34um but I talked to Bob before um before
- 00:45:37the election and one thing he's always
- 00:45:39wanted the tunnel, right? A new R and I
- 00:45:40want a new Range Road. A lot of us do.
- 00:45:42Oh, yeah. Everybody does. Um the way to
- 00:45:44the way to get that range road happening
- 00:45:46is to stop bugging the state government
- 00:45:48about it because right now if if a range
- 00:45:50road gets built the state have to pay
- 00:45:51100% of it. Yeah. So even though it's
- 00:45:54technically a national highway. So if
- 00:45:55you look at a map for Australia it shows
- 00:45:56the number one highway all around the
- 00:45:58country. If you see the number one on a
- 00:46:00white sign that means it's a federal
- 00:46:01highway where they have to they pay
- 00:46:03they're spending 80% of the money for
- 00:46:04federal highways. Yeah. But you see the
- 00:46:06number one on a green sign that means it
- 00:46:09is still the federal highway but the
- 00:46:10state 100% pay for that. Oh, really? So,
- 00:46:13you can't anytime you we're asking the
- 00:46:14state to do roads and this is why north
- 00:46:16of Baron River or north of Canes, why
- 00:46:18our highway system's always been worse
- 00:46:20than south to Cans because the federal
- 00:46:22highway used to stop at at um Ray Jones
- 00:46:24Drive at Portsmith. So, it went to the
- 00:46:26port and and so anytime they did works
- 00:46:28on the highways there, the feds put in
- 00:46:3080% of the money and the state only had
- 00:46:31to put in 20% because you got Navy base
- 00:46:33there. Yeah. Yeah. Well, no. Yeah,
- 00:46:35that's true, too. But but you've got um
- 00:46:37you did that the state government. So
- 00:46:39the federal government doesn't have a
- 00:46:40department of transport. So they just
- 00:46:41give you 80% of the money to the states
- 00:46:43and territories. But about four or five
- 00:46:45years ago, a warrant entry was
- 00:46:47successful in getting this the federal
- 00:46:48highway extended to Smithfield
- 00:46:50roundabout. But so the money now any
- 00:46:53works that happened from now on, 80%
- 00:46:54will be paid by the feds for that
- 00:46:55highway, not the state. But if you want
- 00:46:58to get a range, the way to get it, and
- 00:47:00I'm going a long way around it, but I'm
- 00:47:01trying to make the point. If if Bob
- 00:47:04wants if anyone wants that railroad to
- 00:47:06happen, what they need to do is get a
- 00:47:08federal highway declared. And I don't
- 00:47:10know why this should be everyone should
- 00:47:11be advocating for this. Our whole entire
- 00:47:13country, that federal highway should be
- 00:47:15a national highway paid for by federal
- 00:47:17taxes. It should be and um and so we
- 00:47:19need to advocate for that was the plan
- 00:47:20original plan, you know, one one highway
- 00:47:23that's circumnavigated Australia. Are we
- 00:47:26not part of Australia? You know, I this
- 00:47:27is what this is. Sometimes you think
- 00:47:28that, don't you, up here? You do feel
- 00:47:30like they forgotten sometimes you don't
- 00:47:31you don't even think like you're part of
- 00:47:32the state sometimes you know because
- 00:47:34especially like disaster relief funding
- 00:47:36down in the southeast they seem to get
- 00:47:38it just like that the next day it's
- 00:47:39there where write the check you see you
- 00:47:42should put the numbers on and we'll sign
- 00:47:43the check up here you saw the Gold Coast
- 00:47:45beach after after Cyclone Alfred which
- 00:47:47wasn't even a cyclone it was a tropical
- 00:47:49storm um but it ate the whole beach away
- 00:47:52and Tom Tate the mayor down there said
- 00:47:53if this isn't fixed by Easter which is
- 00:47:54only 3 weeks away I'll buy everyone in
- 00:47:56the Gold Coast a beer it was fixed by
- 00:47:58Easter they got the money And I don't
- 00:47:59begrudge them getting the money in the
- 00:48:00works. I'm just saying we want the same.
- 00:48:02We're we're 18 still going. We're 18 19
- 00:48:05months later and we're still we're still
- 00:48:06after disaster fun. They're still fixing
- 00:48:07they're still fixing the road up to Port
- 00:48:09Douglas. And I heard somebody tell me it
- 00:48:11it'll be finished in 2029. It's a long
- 00:48:14bloody wait, isn't it? They would never
- 00:48:15take this long anywhere else in the
- 00:48:16States. I know it's it's it's
- 00:48:18disgusting. But I um with regards to
- 00:48:20that highway, if we want to get a
- 00:48:21another range road for Boules and
- 00:48:23everything, we need a national highway
- 00:48:25declared. That's what we should be
- 00:48:26advocating for a national highway but a
- 00:48:28national railway as well from cans to
- 00:48:30kumba federal highway federal railway
- 00:48:33and then then you'll get a you'll get
- 00:48:35your tunnel or you'll get your road
- 00:48:36whatever it is because 80 because then
- 00:48:38the state government will be open to it
- 00:48:39because they only have to pay for 20% of
- 00:48:41it. Yeah. So that's the way we got to
- 00:48:42go. I'll be talking to Bob in about 45
- 00:48:44minutes about exactly that. But um I
- 00:48:47don't know we just our whole region has
- 00:48:48so much exciting things happening but
- 00:48:50there is a lot of work to be done in
- 00:48:51certain areas in crime in infrastructure
- 00:48:53and there's we're being let down a
- 00:48:55little bit or a lot and uh so as much
- 00:48:57good as we got going on we've still got
- 00:48:58to take care of this as well. Yeah.
- 00:49:00Yeah. But anyway I guess that's yeah
- 00:49:03haven't got too much else. I'm just
- 00:49:04looking at the time. I got Well, we'll
- 00:49:06wrap it up anyway. So no I appreciate
- 00:49:09hope you enjoyed it guys. Yeah. And
- 00:49:10we'll do it again in another month or
- 00:49:12so. I'm going to try and get some more
- 00:49:13breaking news. More breaking news. Yeah.
- 00:49:15Thanks. Have a good one. Remember, like,
- 00:49:17subscribe, and hit the notification
- 00:49:19bell. Good on you. And look after
- 00:49:21yourselves. Bye. Bye. Cheers, mate.
- 00:49:24That's good. That was good. Yeah. Yeah.
- 00:49:26Okay. Here's the work I was talking
- 00:49:28about with Brett today. This is at
- 00:49:33Clifton. This is the skate
- 00:49:40park. Wow. Certainly changed.
- 00:49:47That's what's happening. Very much full
- 00:49:50into it. So, they've taken the whole
- 00:49:51skate park away. As you can see, that's
- 00:49:53where the skate park used to be. It's
- 00:49:55taken away and they're putting more
- 00:49:56stuff in. This will be
- 00:49:58fantastic. Well done, everybody. Okay,
- 00:50:01here's what I was talking about at
- 00:50:04Clifton. They've got it all fenced off.
- 00:50:06They're in here now. They've got access
- 00:50:09to the
- 00:50:10beach. Cut a few trees down. And they've
- 00:50:13got access to the beach and they've
- 00:50:16fenced everything off. Look, this is the
- 00:50:19playground fenced off, but they've still
- 00:50:22they've still left the entrances open. I
- 00:50:25don't
- 00:50:26understand. And they've even fenced off
- 00:50:29over here where the car park is. I don't
- 00:50:32know. I don't
- 00:50:33know. Don't know what's going on. But
- 00:50:36the playground is still playground is
- 00:50:39still open. Look, there people are still
- 00:50:41in it. Look. But
- 00:50:44uh everything is sealed off
- 00:50:46here.
- 00:50:51Okay. And there heavy machineries in
- 00:50:54just by the toilets at
- 00:50:58Clifton. Okay.
- 00:51:12[Music]
- 00:51:25[Applause]
- 00:51:26[Music]
- 00:51:31Okay, here's the new
- 00:51:33footpath. I'll spin
- 00:51:39round on Beaver's Road here. Goes all
- 00:51:43the way down
- 00:51:45here on this
- 00:51:49side. This is what I was talking about.
- 00:51:52This is a crossover here where
- 00:51:54somebody's driveway goes across council
- 00:51:56land to uh to the roadway.
- 00:52:03Looks like they've cut some crossovers
- 00:52:06and redone them. So, it goes all the way
- 00:52:09down
- 00:52:11there. And we'll go
- 00:52:14down and have a look at the uh the new
- 00:52:17toilet block. But this is it. New
- 00:52:19footpath. Way to go,
- 00:52:21Gil. Okay, this is the drift complex
- 00:52:26here. Here. Drift complex.
- 00:52:31This is Viva's Road. That's Triton
- 00:52:36Street. This is Cafe Viva's
- 00:52:42here. Alamanda in the back
- 00:52:46there. And this is where I think the
- 00:52:49uh the toilet's going here. just
- 00:52:56here in this
- 00:52:59uh like a slip road thing here. I think
- 00:53:04they're putting the
- 00:53:05toilet there. So, it's recessed back
- 00:53:08from the road. This is the road
- 00:53:12here. There's Viva's road. This is a
- 00:53:15slip road
- 00:53:16here. I think they're putting it here.
- 00:53:22Just
- 00:53:25here. Yeah, somewhere in there. I think
- 00:53:28that's where it's going. Could be wrong.
- 00:53:31Maybe somebody can leave a comment if
- 00:53:33I'm wrong. Here's the
- 00:53:39information. Wangetti track. Pause the
- 00:53:42video.
- 00:53:52did unfortunately get washed
- 00:53:55away. So we'll go over
- 00:53:58here the Wangetti. I call it Wiggy Getty
- 00:54:00track. I call it Wangetti trail. Oh,
- 00:54:02there you
- 00:54:04go. Pause the video. Have a
- 00:54:07look. There's the map.
- 00:54:14Okay, let's go up here and have a quick
- 00:54:18look. See what they're doing. It all got
- 00:54:21washed away in the
- 00:54:26cyclone. That was a fair while ago. I
- 00:54:28don't
- 00:54:30know what's taking them so long.
- 00:54:46go over the bridge.
- 00:54:50We'll see. See, look at this. This is
- 00:54:51the landslide. It all all
- 00:54:54came down in the We had so much rain.
- 00:54:571.3 m of rain in 3 days. We had at my
- 00:55:01place just up the road. Might have had
- 00:55:04more
- 00:55:05here. I still haven't been able to fix
- 00:55:07it. There was boulders the size of buses
- 00:55:11blocking this road here when it came
- 00:55:13down. Fact, there's still a boulder over
- 00:55:16there when it came down. Yeah. So
- 00:55:20amazing. Okay, let's have a look.
- 00:55:23Probably get a better view of the
- 00:55:24landslide from this
- 00:55:26footpath bridge
- 00:55:28rather. Foot bridge. Eventually I got it
- 00:55:33right. This is the creek
- 00:55:36here. And this is all the boulders that
- 00:55:39came down the
- 00:55:45creek. Look at
- 00:55:48that. Washed
- 00:55:51out. They're in here trying to fix it.
- 00:55:54They've got
- 00:55:57a some heavy machinery
- 00:56:01in scraping it all away. But uh the
- 00:56:05track is pretty much closed at the
- 00:56:08moment. Went up by the creek, I think,
- 00:56:11if I remember right. But I don't
- 00:56:16know. Maybe I'm not right. Well, there
- 00:56:19it is.
- 00:56:22Okay.
